- 0:59Speaker 1: Hey, you're welcome to this week's show. Probably gonna do
- 1:02sort of a short showed this week because the pair
- 1:06pollen and the wisteria poland is getting to me like
- 1:09crazy and my voice is barely hanging in there. So
- 1:14let's pick up where we left off last time, the
- 1:18questions and answers from radio replies, and then we're going
- 1:21to get into the topic of prayer and we're going
- 1:25to talk about the hell maryer ave Maria, so it
- 1:28should be a very interesting one. The person asks, I
- 1:32heard you say that Christ is offered in the Eucharist
- 1:34as the sacrifice of the New Law. And they said,
- 1:37that is true. That offering of Christ and the Eucharist
- 1:41is known as the Mass, and the Mass is the
- 1:43sacrifice of the New Law. And the person responds, there's
- 1:47only one sacrifice for Christians out of Calvary, and they answer,
- 1:51the sacrifice of Calvary was a sacrifice not only for Christians,
- 1:54but of the whole human race from that moment of
- 1:58the first sin. Whilst the death of Christ upon the
- 2:02cross was the one great, absolute sacrifice, the Mass is
- 2:06a true and relative sacrifice, applying to the souls of men,
- 2:10the fruits of Calvary. Anyway, the doctrine which denies that
- 2:14the Mass is the true sacrifice in the Christian dispensation
- 2:18is simply anti scriptural. Person asks, how do you prove
- 2:22that the sacrifice of the Mass is scriptural? And they answer,
- 2:26by religion. We honor God, and the chief and highest
- 2:29form of worship has ever been by offering of sacrifice. Now,
- 2:33God demanded continual sacrifices of various kinds from the very
- 2:37beginning of the human race until the coming of Christ,
- 2:40and it is not likely that the Christian and more
- 2:43perfect religion would lack a continual and regular offering of
- 2:47the highest act of religion. All the various sacrifices of
- 2:50the Jewish dispensation represented and prefigured the sacrifice of Christ
- 2:56on Calvary and derived all their value by anticipation from
- 3:01his death upon the cross. And if the Jews had
- 3:04to honor God by regular sacrifice, so two must Christians
- 3:09in the higher and more perfect law. But there is
- 3:12this difference. While the Jewish sacrifices where anticipation of the
- 3:15sacrifice of Christ's Calvary, the Mass is a recollection and
- 3:20constant application of that one great sacrifice to the souls
- 3:24of man. I'm going to sip water here. Person says,
- 3:31it is little use you're telling us what ought to
- 3:34be unless you can prove it to us as a
- 3:37fact from scripture, and the answer I can do so.
- 3:42The Old Testament predicts that Christ will offer a true
- 3:44sacrifice to God in bread and wine. That is, he
- 3:47will use those elements, and this prediction is every bit
- 3:52as clear as the prediction that He will also offer
- 3:54himself upon the cross. Thus, Genesis Is fourteen eighteen tells
- 3:58us that Milkisa day king of Salem, was a priest
- 4:02and that he offered sacrifice in the form of bread
- 4:05and wine. Now Psalm's one nine predicts most clearly that
- 4:08Christ will be a priest according to the order of
- 4:10Melchiza Dik, offering a sacrifice under the forms of bread
- 4:14and wine. We must then look for some form of
- 4:18sacrifice differing from that of Calvary, for the crucifixion was
- 4:22not a sacrifice in the forms of bread and wine.
- 4:25You may say that Christ prefer fulfilled the prediction at
- 4:29the Last Supper, but that the right was not to
- 4:31be continued. However, that itmits that the right was truly
- 4:35sacrificial and the fact is that it has been continued
- 4:38in exactly the same sense it was predicted that it
- 4:42would continue. After foretelling the rejection of the Jewish priesthood,
- 4:46the prophet Malachi predicts a new sacrifice to be offered
- 4:49in every place, from the rising of the sun even
- 4:52to the going down. My name is great among the gentiles,
- 4:56and every place there is sacrifice, and there is offered
- 4:59to my name clean oblation Malachi one ten through eleven.
- 5:03The sacrifice of Calvary took place in one place only.
- 5:06We must look for a sacrifice apart from Calvary, once
- 5:10offered in every place under the forms of bread and wine.
- 5:13The Mass is at sacrifice. Person asks, were all the
- 5:18conditions of a sacrifice verified in the Last Supper? And
- 5:21are they still verifying the mass? And they say yes
- 5:24to both questions. For the true sacrifice, we need a priest,
- 5:27an altar, a victim, and a covenant with God. Christ
- 5:30was truly the great high priest, and he gave the
- 5:32power to priests. He gave the power of priest to
- 5:36his apostles, commissioned them to do repeatedly as he himself
- 5:40had done. Their presence. Do this, he said, and commemorations
- 5:43me the power was to persevere the church, even as
- 5:48Malachi had predicted, as victim, Christ offered himself at the
- 5:52Last Supper, taking bread and wine. He said, this is
- 5:56my body, this is my blood. And as often as
- 5:59you show eat this bread and drink this chalish, you
- 6:02shall show the death of the Lord until he come first.
- 6:05Corinthians eleven four twenty six. The separate forms of consecration
- 6:11represent the separation of his body and blood when he was,
- 6:16when he ratified the sacrifice by his death on the
- 6:18cross the next day. The victim then is Christ on
- 6:21the appearance of bread and wine, representatively separated. This does
- 6:26not interfere with the value of cavalry, for Christ's real
- 6:29death occurred there and without it this representation representative function
- 6:35would be useless. Continually through the ages, the sacrifice of
- 6:40Mass has been offered daily in the Catholic Church, and
- 6:42is today offered in every place, from the rising of
- 6:45the sun even to its going down, as Malachi predicted.
- 6:49As for the alder years after the death of Christ,
- 6:52Saint Paul said, we have an altar whereof they have
- 6:57no power to eat, who serve at the tabernacle Hebrews
- 7:01thirteen ten. Finally, there is the Covenant of God. This
- 7:05chalice is the new Testament in my blood, said Christ
- 7:09one Corinthians, eleven twenty five. It had legal documentary value
- 7:13in the side of God. The Catholic Church alone fulfills
- 7:16the scripture in the sacrifice of the Mass. All right, boy,
- 7:25it is all I can do to stifle look off.
- 7:27Right now, let's get to follows Varraga, and what did
- 7:36he say about the Ave Maria. Well, he says, the
- 7:40principal prayer to the Mother of God, which are in
- 7:44common use, are one the Ave Maria or the angelical
- 7:47salutation to the Angelus, and through the Rosary for the
- 7:52Litany of Loretto and the Salve Regina. Catholics almost invariably
- 7:58add the Ave Maria to the Paternostra. It has always
- 8:01been customary among Christians to imitate the example of the
- 8:04archangel Gabriel and to salute our blessed Lady. In his words,
- 8:09the devotion to Mary was not introduced by the decree
- 8:11of a council, nor the past of any pope. At
- 8:15all times the faithful have been wont to pray pay
- 8:17their devout homage to the Queen of Heaven. She herself
- 8:21foresaw this would be, so that all generations would call
- 8:24her blessed Luke one forty eight. The ave Maria is
- 8:28also called the angelical salutation because it commences with the
- 8:33words of the Archangel. The ave Maria consists of three parts,
- 8:37the salutation of the Archangel, the greeting of Elizabeth, and
- 8:40the words of the Church. The salutation of the Archangel
- 8:43runs thus, helpful of grace Lords, with thee blessed art
- 8:46thou among women Luke one eight. The greeting of Elizabeth
- 8:50is this, blessed art thou among women, and blesses the
- 8:52fruit of thy womb verse forty two. The remaining words
- 8:56were added by the Church. The first and second parts
- 8:58are an inscription of praise, when the third part is
- 9:00the supplication. The first and second parts were recited by
- 9:04the faithful in the earliest ages of Christianity. In their
- 9:06present form, while the concluding words were varied, Saint Anthonausius
- 9:11used to add pray for us patron and lady, Queen
- 9:14and Mother of God. From the time of Luther, it
- 9:17was customary to end with the words Holy Marry Mother
- 9:19of God, Pray from us the final clause. There we
- 9:24are the final clause now in use states from the
- 9:27reign of Pope Saint Pius of fifth, who directed to
- 9:30be printed in all authorized prayer books after the heretic
- 9:33and Nestorius denied the right of the blested version of
- 9:36the title Mother of God. The ave Maria was more
- 9:39frequently on the lips of Christians said in earlier times,
- 9:42and when in the thirteenth century other sects aeros who
- 9:45refused to give the saints the veneration due to them,
- 9:49the devotion to our Lady assumed a more and more
- 9:52prominent place, and from that time forth the ave Maria
- 9:56became an invariable adjunctant adjunct to the pattern noster in
- 10:02all public services of the Church. The ave Maria is
- 10:05the most potent prayer and one which is full of meaning.
- 10:09The ave Maria is especially efficacious in time of temptation.
- 10:13Many saints recommend the faithful to recite it when evil
- 10:16thoughts assail them. By the words, Hell, Mary, we testify
- 10:20our reverence for the Mother of God. It is the
- 10:23part of the inferior to subalute. The superior Mary is
- 10:26the mother of the King of Kings. She is the
- 10:28queen of angels and saints, and yet our mother also.
- 10:32The highest adoration of angels and men is due her,
- 10:35and therefore we ought reverently to salute her. The words
- 10:39Ave Maria indicate that Mary is a second and happier Eve.
- 10:43She is the mother of mankind. Is Ave is a
- 10:48play on the name Eva, the order of the letters
- 10:52being reversed. Thus the words of the archangels seem to
- 10:55signify Eve was full of sin, Thou art full of grace.
- 10:59The devils with e, God is with thee. Eve was
- 11:01cursed among women, Thou art blessed among women. Eve gave
- 11:05birth to the cursed Cain, whereas the fruit of thy
- 11:08womb is the blessed Jesus. The words full of Grace
- 11:11had this signification Thou hast received the graces of the
- 11:15Holy Spirit in a higher degree than all other saints together.
- 11:20As the moon gives more light than all the hosts
- 11:22of the stars, so the Mother of God possesses the
- 11:25supernatural light of the Holy Spirit to a greater extent
- 11:29than all the saints. The full plenitude of grace was
- 11:32pulled out on her, whereas it was bestowed but partially
- 11:35on all the other saints. So richly was Mary endowed
- 11:38with grace that she appeared approaches more nearly than any
- 11:42other being with grace that let me see if I
- 11:47get that right. So richly was Mary endowed with grace
- 11:50that she approaches more nearly than any other being. The
- 11:53author of all graces, God might have created a greater heaven,
- 11:57a greater Earth, but a greater Mother than Mary, he
- 12:00could not create. The name Mary means sea. She is
- 12:04indeed an ocean of grace. The Angel said to her,
- 12:07thou hast found grace with God. Only that which was
- 12:11lost can be found. Mary had not lost grace. Therefore
- 12:14she found what man had lost. Let those who have,
- 12:17by their sins lost the grace of God hasten to marry,
- 12:21that they may recover it at her hands. The words
- 12:25the Lord is with thee have this signification. Thou art
- 12:29united body and soul with God. In the closest union
- 12:34in the Temple of Jerusalem, which was outwardly a dazzling whiteness,
- 12:37and inwardly overlay with gold, God was continually present in
- 12:41a luminous cloud. The temple was a type of the
- 12:44Mother of God, for in her the incarnate God dwelt,
- 12:48making her the temple of the Deity. In celebrating Holy Mass,
- 12:52the priest turned seven times to the people with the
- 12:54words dominus fubiscum, thus wishing them the closest union with
- 12:59the Godhead through the sanctifying grace of the Holy Spirit
- 13:03of old. Such forms of greeting were God be with you,
- 13:08basically we're customary. Saul made use of similar words when
- 13:13dismissing David before his contest with Goliath, First Kings seventeen
- 13:20thirty seven. David, when dying, addressed to Solomon in the
- 13:24same manner. Tobias did the same when his son was
- 13:27starting his journey. The words blessed art thou among women,
- 13:30and blesses the fruit of thy womb Jesus have this
- 13:33signification Thou art the most blessed among women, because thy
- 13:37child Jesus was supremely blessed. As a tree is considered
- 13:41good if it bears good fruit, so Merry is lauded.
- 13:45For the sake of her son. She is a tree
- 13:47of life in paradise. In Christ is the fruit of
- 13:49that tree. All the angels of God adore the child
- 13:52that was born of her Hebrews one six mothers who
- 13:56have had a good children have always been called blessed,
- 13:59which since witnessed the woman who, after listening to our
- 14:01Lord's discourse, lifted her voice to extol his mother Luke
- 14:05eleven twenty seven. It is not because Mary was blessed
- 14:09that her child was blessed, but the contrary, He, the
- 14:12authorn source of all grace, filled her with benediction. Christ
- 14:16is not said to be blessed among men as Mary
- 14:18is blessed among women, because He is the creator of
- 14:21all men and cannot be placed in comparison with his creatures.
- 14:25When Judith appeared before King Ozias after slaying Holofernies, he
- 14:31declared to her. He declared her to be blessed among
- 14:33all women on earth Judith, thirteen twenty three. How much
- 14:40more does Mary merit this praise since who lost my place?
- 14:47Since she cooperated in the redemption of the whole human race.
- 14:50Both the archangel and Saint Elizabeth addressed the same words
- 14:54to her to indicate that she was to receive homage
- 14:57alike from angels and men. At the close of the Ave, Maria,
- 15:03we entreat the Mother of God to pray for us
- 15:05in the hour of our death. For then, above all
- 15:09other times, we have most need of assistance at the
- 15:12hour of death. And additional, in addition to physical suffering,
- 15:17we shall perhaps have to sustain violent assaults of temptation.
- 15:21How vehemently exclaimed Saint Bonaventure. Does the devil attack a
- 15:25man in his last hour for this reason, because so
- 15:29short a time is left for him to accomplish his work.
- 15:32The uncertainty of our salvation also causes us terrible anxiety
- 15:35at the hour of our death. In all these tribulations,
- 15:39Mary is our surest helper, for she is the help
- 15:42of the sick, the comfort of the afflicted, the refuge
- 15:44of sinners. When she appears beside the dying, all evil
- 15:48enemies take flight. Many a one who was developed to
- 15:52the Mother of God owed it to her that he
- 15:54was reconciled with God on his death bed, and that
- 15:57he had the last sacraments or receive the superman other
- 16:00supernatural aid. She even appeared in person to several saints. Mary,
- 16:05says Saint Jerome assists her faithful servants in death. She
- 16:08goes to meet them on their way to heaven. She
- 16:11prevails upon the judge of all men to give them
- 16:15a merciful sentence. We speak of ourselves as sinners to
- 16:19render the Mother of God more inclined to listen to us.
- 16:23Mary is most ready to invest herself on behalf of sinners.
- 16:26She knows what it costs her divine son to redeem
- 16:29mankind and restore to her fallen race the graces we
- 16:33had lost. It would seem as if Mary did not
- 16:36estimate at its true value. It would seem as if
- 16:41Mary did not estimate at its true value, the sacrifice
- 16:44of Christ, if she had no great love for sinners.
- 16:48There is no sinner fallen so low that the Mother
- 16:50of God would not willingly befriend him were he to
- 16:53invoke her aid with a real intention to amend. God
- 16:57has committed judgment to his son, raising mercy to his
- 17:01mother's hands. You know I'm gonna leave it there because
- 17:04I am literally about to lose my voice. We'll get
- 17:07into the Angelus next week. All have a great week.
- 17:11Get ready for Easter. This is you know, this is
- 17:15Holy Week. I mean this is we're coming up on it. Anyway,
- 17:19this is the most important time of the year for Catholics,
- 17:22so be sure to pray your Rosary and you're divine
- 17:25mercy chaplain and go to confession and Mass, and I'll
- 17:31talk to you next time.
