Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Welcome to the Richard Sherman Podcast, and today Mitchell and
- 0:08Speaker 1: I have a special guest. It's week one, Seahawks Patriots,
- 0:13Speaker 1: so we had to bring somebody in.
- 0:14Speaker 2: I don't think we could have brought in a better guest.
- 0:16Speaker 2: He played 12 NFL seasons, and across the regular season
- 0:20Speaker 2: and playoff, he recorded 738 receptions, 8,264 receiving yards, and
- 0:23Speaker 2: a whopping 41 touchdowns.
- 0:30Speaker 1: He was a seventh-round pick who entered the league as
- 0:32Speaker 1: a quarterback, became one of the football's most trusted postseason receivers,
- 0:37Speaker 1: won three Super Bowls, earned Super Bowl MVP after 10 catches,
- 0:42Speaker 1: 141 yards against the Rams, and was recently inducted into
- 0:46Speaker 1: the Patriots Hall of Fame.
- 0:48Speaker 2: His 118 postseason catches and 1,442 postseason receiving yards both
- 0:51Speaker 2: rank third in NFL playoff history.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Julian Edelman, welcome to the show, brother. Appreciate you joining us. Jules,
- 1:04Speaker 1: tomorrow Seattle gets to raise the banner and the New
- 1:07Speaker 1: England Patriots are coming into a very hostile environment, a
- 1:11Speaker 1: very emotionally charged environment because the Seahawks are raising their
- 1:14Speaker 1: Super Bowl banner. How much does that emotional setting matter
- 1:18Speaker 1: for the New England Patriots, especially in week one?
- 1:23Speaker 3: I think circumstantial. This is like, This is probably what
- 1:30Speaker 3: you thought about all offseason if you're a New England
- 1:32Speaker 3: Patriot because the team that sent you home in the
- 1:36Speaker 3: last game of the year is raising their banner the
- 1:41Speaker 3: first time you're stepping those cleats on the field this year.
- 1:45Speaker 3: So I don't know how they're feeling, but if I
- 1:48Speaker 3: was in the uniform still, I would have been like,
- 1:53Speaker 3: this is a perfect day to rain on a parade.
- 1:58Speaker 3: It's a perfect day to rain on a parade. This
- 2:02Speaker 3: is a perfect you mad bro moment, bro.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Right, right. It's vice versa. It's vice versa. If we
- 2:10Speaker 1: would have had to play you guys after that, you know,
- 2:13Speaker 1: our quarterback threw it to the other guy at the one,
- 2:18Speaker 1: that would have been quite a game. That would have
- 2:21Speaker 1: been quite a game. But I'm sure Braves didn't have
- 2:24Speaker 1: any problem, like, motivating them this training camp. You know,
- 2:27Speaker 1: when you got them on the other end of the tunnel,
- 2:30Speaker 1: I'm sure he had an easy time waking up and
- 2:34Speaker 1: getting his team fired up every single day to go
- 2:36Speaker 1: to work.
- 2:36Speaker 4: 1,000%.
- 2:37Speaker 3: You know, knowing Vrabes a little bit and knowing where
- 2:42Speaker 3: he came from because I was in that same system
- 2:44Speaker 3: the whole Patriot quote-unquote way, you know, I think they
- 2:49Speaker 3: do a good job of, yeah, we're playing Seattle week one,
- 2:53Speaker 3: and you're going to think about that the week of
- 2:56Speaker 3: the game. But going into everything, you're probably thinking about
- 3:00Speaker 3: how do we get our team better each every day.
- 3:03Speaker 3: If you can get a team like focused on literally
- 3:06Speaker 3: just trying to improve daily and then almost put those
- 3:09Speaker 3: blinders on them to make them think like nothing else
- 3:13Speaker 3: really matters. And if you get guys that that's when
- 3:16Speaker 3: like good teams happen, at least that I was a
- 3:18Speaker 3: part of. You know, everyone was really focused on what
- 3:21Speaker 3: we had inside the building, which Raves came from that.
- 3:25Speaker 3: So I can only imagine he's probably preaching the same
- 3:28Speaker 3: kind of things in a different type of communication factor because,
- 3:32Speaker 3: you know, he's Raves. So that's how I think they've
- 3:36Speaker 3: kind of handled this. Now ramping up to the week
- 3:40Speaker 3: of the game, like that's when the game plan goes.
- 3:43Speaker 3: And yes, they probably had a few wrinkles that they've
- 3:46Speaker 3: been working on, but like, Opening day is crazy no
- 3:50Speaker 3: matter who you're playing. This game is not going to
- 3:53Speaker 3: define either of these teams years, the whole year. So
- 3:57Speaker 3: I think that both these organizations understand that. But do
- 4:02Speaker 3: understand it's, you know, it's still one of the 17
- 4:06Speaker 3: games you play. You got to go out and win.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Julian, you know, you've played in front of raucous crowds before.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Seattle is known to get loud. From a receiver's perspective,
- 4:15Speaker 2: how much harder is it to communicate, adjust your routes,
- 4:18Speaker 2: and stay on the same page with a quarterback with
- 4:21Speaker 2: these guys going into Lumen Field?
- 4:22Speaker 3: Well, you know, whenever we go into a loud stadium,
- 4:25Speaker 3: coaches would always preach, oh, it's easy for the receivers.
- 4:28Speaker 3: You guys go on the ball anyways, which is not
- 4:31Speaker 3: the case always. I mean, I always tried to get
- 4:33Speaker 3: a quick jump, so I was going– I was watching
- 4:36Speaker 3: ball and kind of hearing as well. But traditionally, the
- 4:41Speaker 3: receiver is going off the ball, so that won't change
- 4:45Speaker 3: at all. But when it comes to communication in the huddle,
- 4:50Speaker 3: hearing a play, seeing personnel groups, opening day in a
- 4:55Speaker 3: hostile environment, which Seattle is top three outdoor stadiums that
- 4:59Speaker 3: I've ever played in, maybe top two, it does take
- 5:03Speaker 3: a little bit of a– getting used to for the
- 5:08Speaker 3: offense and the receivers. But, you know, I can only
- 5:11Speaker 3: assume that they've been preparing for that. We all have
- 5:13Speaker 3: been to the NFL practices where they throw on the
- 5:16Speaker 3: music super loud. No one can hear anything. Both coaches
- 5:20Speaker 3: are just saying, let the player play. And you work
- 5:23Speaker 3: in your nonverbal communication skills with the quarterback. So I
- 5:28Speaker 3: can only imagine they're probably working for that.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I think it's going to be great. I think it's
- 5:34Speaker 1: going to be great. I'm looking forward to Drake May
- 5:37Speaker 1: and seeing how he responds. Obviously, Seattle has a very
- 5:41Speaker 1: tough defense, a tough defensive scheme. They lost some guys
- 5:43Speaker 1: in the secondary, Kobe Bryant and Tariq Woolen, but still
- 5:47Speaker 1: have Devin Witherspoon, still have Julian Love, still have a
- 5:51Speaker 1: lot of playmakers back there, still have Ernest Jones, and
- 5:53Speaker 1: then that ferocious front. What do you think the key
- 5:58Speaker 1: is going to be If New England is going to
- 6:01Speaker 1: have a chance to win this game, hostile environment. We
- 6:04Speaker 1: talked about all the things. And as we both know,
- 6:06Speaker 1: all football talk would tell you, hey, bring your defense,
- 6:09Speaker 1: pack your defense in your run game and don't turn
- 6:12Speaker 1: the football over. But let's go a little deeper than that.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I think the Patriots are going to have to
- 6:17Speaker 3: manufacture a run game, have long methodical drives. get their
- 6:24Speaker 3: shiny new toys, a couple plays early to get them
- 6:29Speaker 3: into the system and get them motivated for the, not
- 6:32Speaker 3: just this game, but for the year. I do think,
- 6:36Speaker 3: you know, Romandre Stevenson on first down is going to
- 6:39Speaker 3: be huge. First down is going to be a big
- 6:42Speaker 3: play for the Patriots because they're going to want to
- 6:44Speaker 3: stay on schedule. And if, if they, you know, if
- 6:47Speaker 3: you go first down and then we're in second and
- 6:49Speaker 3: 11 or we're second and nine, we didn't do anything. It,
- 6:53Speaker 3: you're behind in the count with how they probably want
- 6:56Speaker 3: to try to play the game. So I can anticipate that.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I can anticipate that they're going to have to do
- 7:04Speaker 3: well in the red area, which they struggled in last year.
- 7:07Speaker 3: But bringing in A.J. Brown, that instantly makes your red
- 7:11Speaker 3: area 10 times more better, not just in the pass game,
- 7:14Speaker 3: but in the run game as well. Because When you
- 7:17Speaker 3: have a guy like him, you're going to see a
- 7:18Speaker 3: lot of split safety potential, double the slots, cover seven.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Those are double the slots, you know, so then you
- 7:25Speaker 3: get good run looks. So A.J. Brown, having a guy
- 7:28Speaker 3: like him, they needed that because they struggled in the
- 7:31Speaker 3: red area last year, ranking in like 20th or back
- 7:34Speaker 3: of the pack. So they're going to have to do
- 7:36Speaker 3: good in the red area, come away with touchdowns, and
- 7:40Speaker 3: they can't turn the ball over. Like you said, that's
- 7:42Speaker 3: the old cliche, can't turn the ball, you know, and
- 7:46Speaker 3: And I think they're going to have to try to
- 7:47Speaker 3: stop the run. It's going to be interesting with the
- 7:51Speaker 3: edge of the Patriots. They got a couple new guys.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Landry's been banged up. He hasn't played all camp. They
- 7:56Speaker 3: got a great interior defensive line. It'll be interesting to
- 8:00Speaker 3: see the situation with the secondary. They're going to have
- 8:06Speaker 3: to stop the run game for the Seattle Seahawks because
- 8:11Speaker 3: When I talked with the Seahawks in the production meetings,
- 8:15Speaker 3: I got to cover them in a preseason game with Fox.
- 8:19Speaker 3: You know, they kind of just, they knew their system.
- 8:23Speaker 3: They know they have a really good defense. They know
- 8:25Speaker 3: they have really good, you know, skill guys on offense,
- 8:30Speaker 3: but they know that they want to play to that
- 8:32Speaker 3: really good defense and they want to continue to try
- 8:35Speaker 3: to run the football. That's what I got from hearing
- 8:37Speaker 3: all this, just meeting with everyone in there. Uh, you know,
- 8:41Speaker 3: that they got flurry in there comes from that West
- 8:44Speaker 3: coast system, which Sam has been a part of, you know,
- 8:46Speaker 3: and it's really good with that play action. So, you know,
- 8:50Speaker 3: I think they're going to have to Patriots are going
- 8:53Speaker 3: to have to stop that run, make them make Sam
- 8:55Speaker 3: Darnold go out and play in that drop back pass
- 8:58Speaker 3: game and make him make mistakes. That's how you beat
- 9:02Speaker 3: the Seattle Seahawks. It's going to be a wash on
- 9:04Speaker 3: special teams. Seattle's freaking really great on special teams. Patriots
- 9:08Speaker 3: always bring the hammer on special teams. So, like, it's
- 9:11Speaker 3: going to come down to literally who's going to not
- 9:14Speaker 3: turn the ball over and who's going to run the
- 9:18Speaker 3: football probably to me. That was just, I just went
- 9:20Speaker 3: off on a tangent. That was crazy. 20 different things.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Hey, I'm not mad at it. I'm not mad at it.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Football is back, folks, and you need to change the
- 9:30Speaker 1: way you invest in the NFL this season. It's time
- 9:34Speaker 1: to finally ditch your old sportsbook apps because Polymarket is here.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Polymarket is a legal prediction market now available in all
- 9:43Speaker 2: 50 states. And those old sportsbooks, they're a relic of
- 9:46Speaker 2: the past. On Polymarket, you can trade on all things NFL.
- 9:51Speaker 2: From the Sunday slate, to who wins rookie of the year,
- 9:54Speaker 2: to who performs the halftime show.
- 9:56Speaker 1: We hear from listeners all the time about the sportsbooks journey.
- 10:00Speaker 1: them crazy. Trying to cash out live. They can block
- 10:03Speaker 1: you as often as they want. Holding your money hostage.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Polymarket gives you the freedom to cash out instantly.
- 10:11Speaker 2: If the momentum swings, you sell off of it in
- 10:13Speaker 2: real time. You are in control. No one can lock
- 10:17Speaker 2: you out. And you can also buy in anytime. So
- 10:21Speaker 2: when the market dips, like if a team starts slow
- 10:24Speaker 2: and drops to, say, 40%, that's not a loss. That's
- 10:28Speaker 2: when you buy in. At Polymarket, you can buy cheap
- 10:32Speaker 2: and ride the momentum back up.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Polymarket is so confident that you won't go back to
- 10:36Speaker 1: your old ways that they're issuing a challenge. They're giving
- 10:40Speaker 1: you a $ 50 bonus when you deposit just $ 10. Sign
- 10:44Speaker 1: up right now with the promo code Sherman.
- 10:46Speaker 2: That's polymarket.us and use promo code Sherman to get a
- 10:51Speaker 2: $ 50 bonus when you deposit just $ 10.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Look, Mitch knows I'm high on the Seahawks this season.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Right now on Polymarket, you can get Seattle at 38%
- 11:00Speaker 1: to win the NFC West. 11% to win the NFC,
- 11:05Speaker 1: and 7% to win it all. I'm telling you, you
- 11:08Speaker 1: know why I'm backing the Seahawks. Because of Sam Darnold,
- 11:11Speaker 1: Jackson Smith and Jigba, Mike McDonald, this incredible defense. It
- 11:16Speaker 1: hasn't gotten any worse. Mitchell, they don't have to reinvent
- 11:19Speaker 1: the wheel. They just got to keep rolling, baby.
- 11:21Speaker 2: I don't question you one bit, Richard. They're the hot
- 11:23Speaker 2: team right now, the defending champs. Someone's going to have
- 11:26Speaker 2: to dethrone them, and they got all the weapons to
- 11:28Speaker 2: keep their crown going. It's going to be a tough
- 11:30Speaker 2: one in that NFC West, and it's going to be
- 11:33Speaker 2: even tougher in the NFC. We shall see what happens, Richard.
- 11:36Speaker 1: And if things go the way I think they will,
- 11:39Speaker 1: and they beat the Patriots, they steamroll the Cardinals and Commanders,
- 11:43Speaker 1: they beat the Chargers at home, my trade on Polymarket
- 11:47Speaker 1: is going to gain value. And if I want to,
- 11:50Speaker 1: I can sell that trade way before the playoffs even begin.
- 11:55Speaker 1: to lock in my profit.
- 11:56Speaker 2: That's the best thing about poly market. It's an alternative
- 11:59Speaker 2: to traditional sports books that keeps you in control of
- 12:02Speaker 2: your trades. Jules, a lot of people think new England's
- 12:07Speaker 2: had a lot of luck, right? Tom Brady, you get
- 12:10Speaker 2: him for a number of years, takes you guys to
- 12:12Speaker 2: the promised land. Obviously you played a crucial role in
- 12:15Speaker 2: a number of those super bowls. And now the new
- 12:18Speaker 2: England Patriots quickly find Drake may, and he looks to
- 12:22Speaker 2: be another diamond. Um, What areas of improvement do you
- 12:25Speaker 2: think he needs to make to get this team to
- 12:29Speaker 2: win the Super Bowl? Obviously, going to the Super Bowl
- 12:31Speaker 2: last year was a huge surprise for the majority of
- 12:34Speaker 2: the sports community, but.
- 12:36Speaker 1: He was there.
- 12:37Speaker 2: What areas do you think he needs to improve upon
- 12:40Speaker 2: to get them past that final push and win the
- 12:43Speaker 2: Super Bowl?
- 12:44Speaker 3: I think he needs to improve on when things aren't
- 12:47Speaker 3: going well, still being able to be productive. When you
- 12:50Speaker 3: don't have a left tackle, you're left Your left tackle's
- 12:54Speaker 3: getting beat all day. How do we still be able
- 12:57Speaker 3: to move the football, change this, you know, protection schemes
- 13:01Speaker 3: or get us into right plays or getting rid of
- 13:03Speaker 3: the ball quick? I want to see him in those
- 13:06Speaker 3: situations improve because, you know, it got, you look at
- 13:10Speaker 3: that old, the Super Bowl, you know, they couldn't really
- 13:13Speaker 3: protect and it got out of hand and the score
- 13:16Speaker 3: looked like it was closer than it was, but it
- 13:18Speaker 3: really wasn't. And he kind of, He kind of fell away.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Now there's a lot of circumstances to that. They were,
- 13:25Speaker 3: he was banged up. The offense line was a little
- 13:28Speaker 3: banged up, but you know, I want to see him
- 13:30Speaker 3: when thing, I want to see him be able to,
- 13:33Speaker 3: you know, move around in the pocket and make productive
- 13:37Speaker 3: plays when like, we're not producing on the offense line
- 13:41Speaker 3: or we don't, our receivers aren't getting open or we may,
- 13:45Speaker 3: I can't run the football today. How, you know what
- 13:48Speaker 3: I mean? I want to see those hairy moments. I mean,
- 13:52Speaker 3: this guy was second in MVP. So, I mean, what
- 13:55Speaker 3: else can you ask for? And you're going to anticipate
- 13:57Speaker 3: that's going to get better with the addition of A.J.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Brown and Dobbs and already having continuity with, you know,
- 14:04Speaker 3: little Pop Douglas and Henry. Like, they have a good
- 14:07Speaker 3: thing going there. So, second year in the system, I
- 14:11Speaker 3: think it's going to naturally get better. because he's going
- 14:14Speaker 3: to know the language a lot more, but like, that's
- 14:17Speaker 3: what I would like to see him improve on.
- 14:19Speaker 1: I think I like what he did last year. Obviously
- 14:22Speaker 1: he played a great season, had a great season. But
- 14:25Speaker 1: his relationship with Josh McDaniels is obviously a lot different
- 14:28Speaker 1: than what Tom's was. Cause you know, when you have
- 14:30Speaker 1: the credibility, you have the rapport, you have, you know,
- 14:33Speaker 1: everything that Tom had, obviously Josh, Josh's role is different.
- 14:37Speaker 1: When you have a young quarterback that you're trying to
- 14:38Speaker 1: develop and you're trying to make comfortable and help, be
- 14:44Speaker 1: successful in the league. You gotta, you gotta, you know,
- 14:48Speaker 1: do a little bit, be a little bit more deliberate
- 14:50Speaker 1: with what you want out of him and what you
- 14:51Speaker 1: want to see. So I understand what you're saying. You
- 14:54Speaker 1: want to see him be better in those situations, but
- 14:56Speaker 1: how much has, has Josh McDaniel evolved since, since you
- 15:01Speaker 1: were there?
- 15:05Speaker 3: I think he's evolved a lot, just playing to the
- 15:07Speaker 3: strengths of what Drake does. He, you know, like there's,
- 15:11Speaker 3: a lot more move in the pocket, a lot more rollouts.
- 15:16Speaker 3: We didn't really do that necessarily with Tom as much
- 15:20Speaker 3: as Tom wanted to do, but we understood he loved
- 15:24Speaker 3: that spot, seven yards behind the.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Center.
- 15:29Speaker 3: So I would say that incorporating a lot more of
- 15:32Speaker 3: these kind of like RPO things, a little bit of
- 15:36Speaker 3: it because they have a guy that can do it
- 15:39Speaker 3: like Drake May. And then also, you know, probably coaching
- 15:44Speaker 3: into Drake May. If one, two, three's not there, hey, go, go.
- 15:48Speaker 3: You know, like he's never been able to coach that.
- 15:51Speaker 3: You know, he's been with the guy that's using stagnant
- 15:54Speaker 3: in the pocket doing those things. So, you know, a
- 15:56Speaker 3: lot of the same stuff is the same stuff. As
- 15:59Speaker 3: you know, as we all know, coaches are who they are.
- 16:03Speaker 3: It's different cars or different license plates, same cars. You know,
- 16:08Speaker 3: that's what we always used to say.
- 16:11Speaker 1: But there's so much Tom could do. I mean, Tom
- 16:14Speaker 1: got the ball out really quick. Decisions were made before
- 16:17Speaker 1: the ball was even snapped. Didn't have a problem, you know,
- 16:21Speaker 1: giving you death by a thousand cuts. He'll check it
- 16:23Speaker 1: down 15 times and not bat an eyelash. These young
- 16:27Speaker 1: kids are a lot more impatient. And have you had any....
- 16:40Speaker 3: You know what I mean? So it gets each year,
- 16:44Speaker 3: if you're a quarterback that's learning from mistake and learning
- 16:47Speaker 3: through experience with how the rules are, the game should
- 16:51Speaker 3: be getting easier. That's what Tom would always say. The
- 16:54Speaker 3: game gets easier the more I know. You know what
- 16:57Speaker 3: I mean? Those kind of things. So I think, you know,
- 17:00Speaker 3: another compounded year with McDaniels, those things will, you'll start
- 17:05Speaker 3: to see that from Drake May. Now, not to the
- 17:08Speaker 3: capacity of what Tom was, because he got 20 years
- 17:11Speaker 3: on the kid, but like, I think that's where, when
- 17:15Speaker 3: we talked about what do you want to see improvement
- 17:17Speaker 3: from with Drake May, that right there, Sherm.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Love it.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Julianne, Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez has missed a number of
- 17:27Speaker 2: practices amid contract negotiations. We just saw Devin Witherspoon become
- 17:31Speaker 2: the highest paid cornerback in the NFL. How important is
- 17:36Speaker 2: it that they get a deal done before the season starts?
- 17:39Speaker 2: And what does it do for the team without him
- 17:41Speaker 2: there at practice?
- 17:43Speaker 3: I think it's important to get a deal done. You
- 17:47Speaker 3: want your guys, especially guys that or foundational pieces of
- 17:52Speaker 3: your team, you want them to be happy going into
- 17:55Speaker 3: a season. Because that energy, regardless of how a guy
- 17:59Speaker 3: is handling it in the locker room, being a pro
- 18:02Speaker 3: or not, there's still an energy that is miscued between
- 18:07Speaker 3: every relationship. Every guy has a different point of view
- 18:10Speaker 3: of it. Some guys are with it, some guys are
- 18:12Speaker 3: not with it. No matter what you say, there's always
- 18:16Speaker 3: different perspectives of, So when these kind of things are happening.
- 18:20Speaker 3: So I think it'd be a lot better for them
- 18:24Speaker 3: to get it done before this season. And Christian Gonzalez
- 18:28Speaker 3: is very important. I mean, it's kind of like if
- 18:32Speaker 3: you have a premier corner or do you have a
- 18:34Speaker 3: premier defensive end? The good defensive end is going to
- 18:37Speaker 3: get the ball out quicker. The good corner is going
- 18:40Speaker 3: to hold coverage longer. So the defensive end, who's maybe
- 18:44Speaker 3: not Miles Garrett, and get a little longer second to
- 18:48Speaker 3: get a pass rush. So, I mean, he's a huge
- 18:51Speaker 3: part of that defense. They love using him, letting him
- 18:55Speaker 3: go and follow guys, and he's shown he's one of
- 18:58Speaker 3: the best to do it in the league. So it's
- 19:02Speaker 3: important for them to get it done, and he's a
- 19:04Speaker 3: huge part of everything about their defense.
- 19:08Speaker 1: And I thought he did a good job this offseason. Just,
- 19:11Speaker 1: you know, he didn't hold out. He didn't hold in.
- 19:13Speaker 1: He went to work, did his thing. And I think
- 19:15Speaker 1: he put himself in the best position to get a
- 19:18Speaker 1: deal done to, you know, to give the team no
- 19:20Speaker 1: reason not to give him his money. I'll say this.
- 19:23Speaker 1: I'll say this. I don't think it's going to be
- 19:25Speaker 1: much more than what Witherspoon got. I think, you know,
- 19:29Speaker 1: whether it's $ 100, 000 more or whatever the case may be,
- 19:32Speaker 1: it's going to be barely more than what he got.
- 19:34Speaker 1: So I think that it's whoever goes first. So if
- 19:39Speaker 1: Gonzalez would have got paid first, Witherspoon would have got
- 19:41Speaker 1: $ 100, 000 more.
- 19:41Speaker 3: Same agent.
- 19:44Speaker 1: He knows what's going on. I think good faith by
- 19:49Speaker 1: Christian Gonzalez was showing up. I think that's part of
- 19:51Speaker 1: the deal.
- 19:52Speaker 3: He showed up.
- 19:54Speaker 2: I'm here to ask the important question of the day, guys.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Who wins this game? I need a score from both
- 20:00Speaker 2: of you.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Who wins the game?
- 20:10Speaker 3: Look, man, that's a long flight. Going to Seattle from
- 20:16Speaker 3: Boston could be the second longest flight in National Football League,
- 20:19Speaker 3: not including international plays. Right. You're going into an environment
- 20:26Speaker 3: that 12 men, that place gets rocking. I mean, they're getting.
- 20:33Speaker 3: 8 on the Richter scale. We're getting. 8 on Richter's scale.
- 20:39Speaker 3: They got banner droppage. They got banners coming down. Number two.
- 20:46Speaker 3: They got 20 of 22 starters coming back, and they
- 20:50Speaker 3: got Price, who's pretty dang good.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Why do I feel like you're setting something up for
- 20:55Speaker 1: a fall here?
- 20:56Speaker 3: You know what I mean? They got a lot of stuff. Schneider, man.
- 21:01Speaker 3: My guy Schneider knows how to make a team. And McDonald,
- 21:05Speaker 3: he's got them going in the right direction.
- 21:07Speaker 4: Uh-huh.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Well, I think the Patriots... I think the Patriots go
- 21:17Speaker 3: up in there with that taste in the back of
- 21:21Speaker 3: their throat that they've had all offseason. You know that... Pause, pause, pause.
- 21:27Speaker 3: You know that taste when you have a bad taste
- 21:31Speaker 3: of medicine or something? That kind of taste gets your
- 21:34Speaker 3: mind out of the gutter, Rich.
- 21:36Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 21:37Speaker 3: That kind of taste... And I think with the new addition, A.J. Brown,
- 21:42Speaker 3: the reinforcements of the offensive line, I think that all
- 21:47Speaker 3: the stuff that I said that they haven't been thinking
- 21:50Speaker 3: about it, they've been thinking about it.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I'm going to be serious.
- 21:53Speaker 3: Twenty-eight. Seattle, twenty-four.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Oh, you're going.
- 22:01Speaker 3: Hey.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Hey, now. Hey, now. Say now.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Hey, now.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Say now.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Actually, twenty-eight, twenty-four.
- 22:08Speaker 4: 28, that would be 21, 20, 24, 20, 28, no, yeah, 27, 28, 27.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Okay. What's the spread?
- 22:23Speaker 1: I like that.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Minus five, four?
- 22:29Speaker 1: Oh, you're going, you're talking to the Vegas, the gamblers now, huh?
- 22:32Speaker 3: Well, I mean- Those twos, somehow, they pin it out.
- 22:36Speaker 3: They are pretty damn good every time.
- 22:38Speaker 1: They are pretty good. They are pretty on it. No,
- 22:40Speaker 1: but I'm going 28-27 Patriots upset.
- 22:41Speaker 3: I just think Drake may.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Everyone's been saying, oh, Patriots schedule's been so easy last year.
- 22:53Speaker 3: Everyone's been talking about how it's been so easy for
- 22:56Speaker 3: the Patriots and what they do this offseason. They literally
- 23:00Speaker 3: added to everything they needed. Maybe could have used another
- 23:03Speaker 3: edge guy, but we'll see. We'll see. They had the
- 23:07Speaker 3: Acus kid, the second rounder. So, you know, I think
- 23:12Speaker 3: the Patriots go in, and I think they put a
- 23:15Speaker 3: little something in there.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Okay. Okay, I'll give you my opinion. I hear you, Jules.
- 23:24Speaker 3: Come on, let's hear it, Rich.
- 23:25Speaker 1: I'll tell you this. The Seahawks lost the Super Bowl MVP,
- 23:31Speaker 1: Kenneth Walker, replaced him with Jadarian Price, and from what
- 23:34Speaker 1: I've seen in training camp, he's going to be a
- 23:36Speaker 1: fun kid to watch run the football. Good. I know
- 23:38Speaker 1: there's some concern there. Mitchell has shown some concern there. Mitchell,
- 23:44Speaker 1: I think they're going to be all right there. They
- 23:46Speaker 1: have the reigning offensive player of the year, Jackson Smith
- 23:49Speaker 1: and Jigba. They have a guy who didn't have a
- 23:53Speaker 1: great rapport with Sam Darnold last year and Rasheed Shahid,
- 23:57Speaker 1: who they've worked on the offseason extensively. An all-pro returner,
- 24:02Speaker 1: by the way. Very good. Let's not forget the former
- 24:08Speaker 1: Triple Crown winner, Cooper Cupp, who's always a nice safety blanket.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Arroyo has had a great training camp. My guy Barnyard
- 24:17Speaker 1: is going to factor in at the tight end position
- 24:19Speaker 1: and then the defense. Then we're going to talk about
- 24:22Speaker 1: the defense. Sam Darnold had his struggles during the regular season.
- 24:26Speaker 1: He didn't have them in the playoffs. And I think
- 24:29Speaker 1: he's going to have a spectacular regular season this year.
- 24:33Speaker 1: I think he's going to be in the running for MVP.
- 24:38Speaker 1: I don't know if he'll win it. I agree. But
- 24:40Speaker 1: he's going to be in the running because they're going
- 24:42Speaker 1: to be a great team and they're going to be
- 24:43Speaker 1: winning football games. I think defensively is where they are
- 24:46Speaker 1: just too strong and too tough to deal with. I
- 24:49Speaker 1: think that offensive line, with another year together with Charles
- 24:52Speaker 1: Cross and Gabe Zabel and Jalen Sundell and Anthony Bradford,
- 24:59Speaker 1: who played really well in the Super Bowl. And then defensively,
- 25:07Speaker 1: that's where it's bad. Everybody got paid on defense. Everybody
- 25:09Speaker 1: got their money. They just gave Leonard Williams his money.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Byron Murphy could have easily been an all-pro. last year. Monsters.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Demarcus Lawrence is still there. Jaron Reed's still there. And
- 25:21Speaker 1: then you got, um, Ernest Jones and Uchenna. And then
- 25:25Speaker 1: you got the guy who got paid to, to stay, um,
- 25:29Speaker 1: who's to stay around. There's, there's just, as I keep
- 25:35Speaker 1: looking at it, I don't know. I just, I'm having
- 25:40Speaker 1: a hard time seeing, seeing a way New England's going
- 25:43Speaker 1: to beat this team. And they're hungry. It's not like
- 25:45Speaker 1: we watch this team and they spend.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Under the radar.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Under the radar.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Talk about the Rams.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Right. Bro, if you came to training camp. Rich. I'm
- 25:57Speaker 1: just saying, if you came to training camp, it felt.
- 26:00Speaker 3: I did.
- 26:01Speaker 1: And I told Mike this.
- 26:01Speaker 3: They look great.
- 26:05Speaker 1: It felt New England-ish. It's like y'all didn't even realize
- 26:09Speaker 1: y'all won a Super Bowl.
- 26:11Speaker 3: He's from New England.
- 26:13Speaker 1: It felt New England. It's like you guys just went
- 26:16Speaker 1: blue collar right back to work. No, I don't see
- 26:18Speaker 1: anybody in a commercial. Like, you know, after Superbowl, Jules,
- 26:22Speaker 1: you're expecting to see guys on floats, commercials. No commercials.
- 26:26Speaker 3: That's actually.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Like GQ magazine, something. These guys, you didn't hear from
- 26:32Speaker 1: them at all. Just got back to work. And that's
- 26:35Speaker 1: the part that has me really, really terrified for the league.
- 26:39Speaker 1: And I know everybody's like, oh, Rams, Rams, Rams. And
- 26:41Speaker 1: I think Rams is going to be great. Super Bowls
- 26:46Speaker 1: ain't never been won on paper, as you know. Nobody
- 26:49Speaker 1: had New England going last year. People damn sure didn't
- 26:51Speaker 1: have Seattle going. If we went by the paper, it'd
- 26:54Speaker 1: be a lot different Super Bowl champions every year. I
- 26:59Speaker 1: got Seattle 28-17.
- 27:05Speaker 3: I mean, it's going to be a fun game because
- 27:08Speaker 3: there's so many. That's what's great about this sport, especially
- 27:13Speaker 3: with this opener. You got two premier, premier organizations. You know,
- 27:21Speaker 3: New England Patriots, six-time Super Bowl champs. You got Seattle,
- 27:25Speaker 3: who they're always in a Super Bowl every, like, five years.
- 27:30Speaker 3: But they literally have changed their identity. And it got
- 27:35Speaker 3: back to, like, that's remarkable stuff. Like, and you guys
- 27:39Speaker 3: could have had more. Obviously, you guys do generational things
- 27:44Speaker 3: in Seattle. And I think this is going to be
- 27:47Speaker 3: a must-watch game. I can't wait to watch it. I agree.
- 27:51Speaker 1: I don't think people have given enough credit for last year.
- 27:54Speaker 1: They basically gutted their offense and then went to the
- 27:58Speaker 1: Super Bowl.
- 27:58Speaker 3: And they kind of ran through people.
- 28:00Speaker 1: They did. They were hard to beat. The one game
- 28:03Speaker 1: they lost, the last time they lost, was in L.A.
- 28:05Speaker 1: after Sam threw four interceptions. And that was like off
- 28:09Speaker 1: of a 65-yard field goal attempt or 67-yard field goal
- 28:13Speaker 1: attempt that fell short. And if they would have hit that,
- 28:15Speaker 1: They would have won that game where he probably played
- 28:18Speaker 1: as bad as he could have played. So I just–
- 28:21Speaker 1: I got.
- 28:22Speaker 3: To talk with Sam this offseason in that production meeting
- 28:26Speaker 3: with Fox. And, you know, he was like disappointed with
- 28:31Speaker 3: his Super Bowl. Like he– and he didn't even play
- 28:34Speaker 3: a bad Super Bowl. Like he maybe missed a couple throws,
- 28:37Speaker 3: but he didn't do anything to jeopardize the team. But
- 28:40Speaker 3: the fact that he went into the offseason like angry about–
- 28:45Speaker 3: winning a Super Bowl, like you said, that hunger, that's
- 28:50Speaker 3: what you need to be continually great. You need to
- 28:54Speaker 3: have your leaders be continually hungry. And whether you like
- 28:59Speaker 3: it or not, Sam Darnold is the leader of that
- 29:01Speaker 3: offense and a huge impact leader on that team now.
- 29:05Speaker 3: This guy's a Super Bowl winning quarterback. And it's not
- 29:08Speaker 3: like he just, everyone keeps on trying to say it
- 29:10Speaker 3: was like Trent Dilfer. The guy in Minnesota the year before,
- 29:15Speaker 3: It was getting MVP talks until, you know, week 17.
- 29:19Speaker 3: You know what I mean? Like, this guy was lighting
- 29:21Speaker 3: it up then. So, he's back-to-back, lighting it up. And
- 29:26Speaker 3: if he eliminates a quarter of his turnovers, he's going
- 29:31Speaker 3: to be, like, significantly better. And he's in a system
- 29:36Speaker 3: that kind of, you know, I talked to flurry about that.
- 29:39Speaker 3: What's the carryover. And he goes, Oh, it's 50, 50,
- 29:41Speaker 3: but they know a lot of this stuff. So like,
- 29:44Speaker 3: you're going to get same continuity. I mean, he's going to, he,
- 29:48Speaker 3: Sam can explode. I think he's got a cool demeanor
- 29:51Speaker 3: about him.
- 29:53Speaker 1: He, he a hundred percent. And he's a winner. Like,
- 29:55Speaker 1: and I know it sounds crazy, you know, because everybody
- 29:57Speaker 1: judges you off your past and what you were before, but,
- 30:00Speaker 1: But if you judge it off the last few years,
- 30:02Speaker 1: he's a winner. 14 wins last year, 14 wins the
- 30:06Speaker 1: year before. At some point, you got to start believing
- 30:08Speaker 1: like he has something to do with that. And I
- 30:10Speaker 1: think people get away from giving him the credit that
- 30:13Speaker 1: he deserves because they're like, oh, well, he was a bust.
- 30:16Speaker 1: I think it's hard to say that right now because
- 30:19Speaker 1: he's Definitely not. He's playing too well. Like when you
- 30:23Speaker 1: win 14 games, even if you have the best defense
- 30:25Speaker 1: in the world, you've got to be doing something. But
- 30:27Speaker 1: if you win 14 games a second time for a
- 30:30Speaker 1: team who traded away their number one receiver, their number
- 30:34Speaker 1: two receiver or number three receiver, they let walk in
- 30:37Speaker 1: free agency. They took their number two receiver and said,
- 30:40Speaker 1: you're the number one receiver and that's what we're going with.
- 30:43Speaker 1: And he goes out and went offensive MVP. You draft
- 30:46Speaker 1: the offensive lineman, a left guard in the first round.
- 30:49Speaker 1: and you trust him and ride that offensive line all
- 30:51Speaker 1: the way to the Super Bowl while the quarterback who
- 30:55Speaker 1: you got from Minnesota leads the league in turnovers. You
- 31:00Speaker 1: get the one seed. He goes through the playoffs and
- 31:03Speaker 1: doesn't turn the ball over once.
- 31:05Speaker 3: That's the scary thing. He played his best football at
- 31:08Speaker 3: the last part of the year. When you start playing
- 31:12Speaker 3: your best football in your most important games, that's when
- 31:16Speaker 3: people start looking like, okay. Okay. At least for me.
- 31:24Speaker 3: You're making plays in big games. That's when you make
- 31:30Speaker 3: your money in that regular season. You make your name
- 31:32Speaker 3: in that postseason.
- 31:33Speaker 1: Talk about it. Talk about it. And that's why I
- 31:36Speaker 1: just feel like Drake Mays is going to go in
- 31:37Speaker 1: there feeling like Eminem. His palms are sweaty. Knees weak.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Arms are heavy. There's vomit on his sweater already. It's
- 31:42Speaker 1: mom's spaghetti. He's nervous.
- 31:43Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think he's got a little cool factor
- 31:46Speaker 3: going over there too.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Drake's?
- 31:49Speaker 3: Drake's got this like Southern, like North Carolina, cool guy
- 31:56Speaker 3: thing that he, this swag that he has very humble
- 31:59Speaker 3: kind of self, you know, deprecating kind of thing. Like, no,
- 32:03Speaker 3: I mean, it's you, but like, he'll go hit 79
- 32:07Speaker 3: at Augusta. Like he did with our, our owner. He'll go,
- 32:10Speaker 3: go light up, you know, the, the threes in a shootout.
- 32:14Speaker 3: He'll go hit 10 bombs in basketball. This guy, he's
- 32:17Speaker 3: a stud, and he's the grunt of a bunch of studs,
- 32:21Speaker 3: which makes me even like him even more. He had
- 32:23Speaker 3: a bunch of older brothers. He knows how to be
- 32:25Speaker 3: in a team. And once again, very similar to Darnold,
- 32:30Speaker 3: it's the hungry factors of these guys that would make
- 32:33Speaker 3: them special, or, you know, you make them, makes me
- 32:36Speaker 3: attracted to their play. You know, it's the hunger, because
- 32:40Speaker 3: anyone could do it for a year. Not anyone. A
- 32:43Speaker 3: lot of guys do it for a year. But the
- 32:47Speaker 3: really good, great guys, they continually do it because the
- 32:50Speaker 3: league is so smart. They figure out in a year,
- 32:53Speaker 3: they study you for an offseason, and then that's what happens.
- 32:57Speaker 3: You know what I mean? So guys that can continually
- 32:59Speaker 3: do it, they don't get complacent. They don't think what
- 33:02Speaker 3: they've done is enough for what they do. They always
- 33:05Speaker 3: want to learn. I think that's what these two guys have.
- 33:08Speaker 2: I want to talk a little bit about your guys'
- 33:10Speaker 2: playing days. You guys have had your fair share of battles.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Some worked out good for you, Julian. Some worked out
- 33:16Speaker 2: good for you, Richard. I know one in mind that
- 33:19Speaker 2: worked out a lot better for Jules than it did Richard.
- 33:22Speaker 2: That being said, the Legion of Boom is going to
- 33:25Speaker 2: go down in history as one of the best secondaries
- 33:28Speaker 2: in football, if not the best. As a wide receiver,
- 33:31Speaker 2: what was it like going against the Legion of Boom?
- 33:36Speaker 1: Man.
- 33:38Speaker 3: When we were preparing for this, this game, and it's
- 33:46Speaker 3: like a bad, it was like a badge of honor
- 33:48Speaker 3: to get to go against a secondary, a defense like this.
- 33:54Speaker 3: You know, you got Earl, you got Sherm, you got Chancellor,
- 33:59Speaker 3: you have Max. Like, all these guys had their own
- 34:02Speaker 3: little twist to the game and they all played as
- 34:04Speaker 3: a unit tight together. So like, They did what they did,
- 34:09Speaker 3: but they were so good and so in unison that
- 34:13Speaker 3: they could beat you with you knowing what they're doing
- 34:18Speaker 3: because that's how fundamentally athletic or fundamentally sound they were.
- 34:22Speaker 3: They played to get like, it's just, it was like
- 34:24Speaker 3: a badge of honor to get to play and compete
- 34:27Speaker 3: against that because that's how good they were. It was
- 34:29Speaker 3: a no-fly zone. I played against a bunch of really
- 34:32Speaker 3: good defenses, the old Baltimore's, Seattle, those Denver days, those
- 34:38Speaker 3: early Vaughn Miller, no-fly zone Denver days. When you play
- 34:43Speaker 3: against these types of defenses as a unit in the
- 34:47Speaker 3: receiver room, you know you got to bring your egg in.
- 34:51Speaker 3: You're watching extra film. You're working extra after practice. You're communicating.
- 34:57Speaker 3: We're meeting after practice as a unit because if you don't,
- 35:02Speaker 3: they expose you and they make you look silly. Right.
- 35:09Speaker 3: So that's what it was like when you played against,
- 35:11Speaker 3: you knew what they were doing.
- 35:13Speaker 1: It was such a chess mental chess game. And I,
- 35:16Speaker 1: I hate watching that game because when Jay Lane went out,
- 35:19Speaker 1: you guys' plan became very clear and there was nothing
- 35:22Speaker 1: we could do about it. You guys went after our
- 35:23Speaker 1: other corner and three touchdowns on him later. And it
- 35:26Speaker 1: was like, Oh, well, this was, this was fun. Can't really,
- 35:30Speaker 1: we didn't, we didn't factor for, for, for guys getting
- 35:32Speaker 1: injured and not, but, You guys had such a great
- 35:35Speaker 1: game plan. I remember the first play of the game.
- 35:38Speaker 1: We were in something we called Reno. And it was base.
- 35:42Speaker 1: It was base. And you guys motioned and motioned. You
- 35:46Speaker 1: motioned Bruce Irvin all the way outside. And we honestly
- 35:50Speaker 1: had never ran into that scenario. It was a one-off
- 35:54Speaker 1: of a one-off of a one-off that nobody had ever
- 35:56Speaker 1: done it to us in base. And we were like.
- 35:59Speaker 1: And we were like, what the hell? I mean, the
- 36:01Speaker 1: rules are the rules, so you got to go out there, Bruce.
- 36:04Speaker 1: But in that scenario, I was supposed to stay at
- 36:06Speaker 1: the line, and it was going to be a one-on-one
- 36:08Speaker 1: with Bruce and Gronk. And so I end up trying
- 36:10Speaker 1: to back up to safety and just give space to
- 36:14Speaker 1: be like, hey, I don't know what this is, but
- 36:16Speaker 1: I guarantee you they want me pressed at the line
- 36:18Speaker 1: and want to throw a fade here. I'm not about
- 36:19Speaker 1: to just let them throw a fade. Like, throw it
- 36:21Speaker 1: to the bubble here or throw something short, but I'm
- 36:24Speaker 1: not about to just let y'all dictate what we're doing because–
- 36:27Speaker 1: This is crazy. And you can't check to the coaches
- 36:30Speaker 1: at that point. You can't call a timeout and say, hey,
- 36:32Speaker 1: we've never seen this before. Let's figure it out. But
- 36:34Speaker 1: that's the cool part about being in Super Bowls and
- 36:37Speaker 1: having that much time to prepare for one another is
- 36:39Speaker 1: that you really know each other so intimately that everybody's
- 36:44Speaker 1: going to study the tape and study the things that
- 36:46Speaker 1: you did against one another to try to beat these teams.
- 36:49Speaker 1: Like when we played you guys and when we played
- 36:53Speaker 1: Denver in the Super Bowl, they ran that seven pump.
- 36:57Speaker 1: the corner and go against our cover three. And it
- 37:01Speaker 1: was a beater. It was a, it was, it was
- 37:02Speaker 1: the post, the scissors with the seven pump. And it
- 37:05Speaker 1: was a super beater.
- 37:07Speaker 3: Take that corner with you. And then he runs a little,
- 37:10Speaker 3: that new wheel.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Yup.
- 37:13Speaker 3: So what, how you get to it, the seven and
- 37:15Speaker 3: then pump, regardless, a lot of the times the guys
- 37:18Speaker 3: they'll do like an option and really sell it slow.
- 37:21Speaker 3: And then they go. So you get the separation, you
- 37:23Speaker 3: hit that thing window. We had those for you guys.
- 37:27Speaker 3: I mean, you guys were in that cover six, but
- 37:31Speaker 3: it was, like, matched. It ran like man, but it wasn't,
- 37:34Speaker 3: but it was. And then you had flat zone defenders
- 37:37Speaker 3: coming out of nowhere. What the fuck is this guy
- 37:39Speaker 3: doing over here? You know what I mean? So, like,
- 37:43Speaker 3: we did that first play, and then how did Gronk
- 37:47Speaker 3: score about a quarter later?
- 37:50Speaker 1: The same thing, but they took KJ. When you showed
- 37:52Speaker 1: us that.
- 37:54Speaker 3: That was the first play of the game, and we
- 37:57Speaker 3: set that play that we threw to Gronk, and we said,
- 37:59Speaker 3: all right, we're going to use that. We saw how
- 38:01Speaker 3: you guys played it. You were going to match it,
- 38:04Speaker 3: and you guys, you can manipulate the coverage in base.
- 38:07Speaker 3: You guys probably only had three coverages.
- 38:10Speaker 1: Right, three or four.
- 38:11Speaker 3: And we knew it was going to be really hard
- 38:13Speaker 3: to run on you guys early downs, so we were
- 38:16Speaker 3: going to have to We were going to try to
- 38:20Speaker 3: throw the ball as much as we could on early down.
- 38:24Speaker 1: And our plan was for Cam to cover Gronk. But
- 38:28Speaker 1: our coaches did some idiotic nonsense on the Saturday before
- 38:32Speaker 1: the game and literally ran this nonsense coverage. Because in
- 38:37Speaker 1: our goal line situations, we ran like, you know, obviously
- 38:40Speaker 1: corners are off the field. It's just linebacker safeties and D-line.
- 38:44Speaker 1: And you guys would always break out into the two,
- 38:46Speaker 1: you know, send Gronk and whoever the other tight end
- 38:49Speaker 1: out and open it up to throw Gronk a fade
- 38:51Speaker 1: or a slant.
- 38:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:53Speaker 1: And we were like, cool, you know, that's going to
- 38:55Speaker 1: be cool, Cam. Stand up, figure it out. And our coaches,
- 38:58Speaker 1: you know, sphincters tight, making up shit, and you never
- 39:02Speaker 1: make up shit in Super Bowl week, decided, hey, we're
- 39:04Speaker 1: going to buzz Malcolm Smith under the slant. So, Cam,
- 39:08Speaker 1: you just have to cover the fade, and we'll have
- 39:11Speaker 1: it done. But it's like, we've never done that. Like,
- 39:13Speaker 1: Cam's an all-pro. Just stand up. You know what I mean?
- 39:16Speaker 1: If they score, then They were better than us, you know,
- 39:18Speaker 1: but I don't think they're, you know, it's not going
- 39:19Speaker 1: to be an easy play. And so while we were
- 39:23Speaker 1: running through that play, Cam does everything full speed. So
- 39:25Speaker 1: Cam's covering it full speed. We're in a Saturday. Malcolm
- 39:28Speaker 1: Smith buzzes into Cam. knee, tears his MCL on Saturday.
- 39:33Speaker 3: Well, I tell you right now, on that first play,
- 39:35Speaker 3: it was a run when we motioned it, zoomed in
- 39:40Speaker 3: to get the formation indicator to see what we were
- 39:42Speaker 3: going to get. I had to go in and block
- 39:45Speaker 3: Cam on that force. Ain't never felt the guy that
- 39:48Speaker 3: felt more rooted to the ground. I got, I knocked
- 39:53Speaker 3: myself out on the first play with him. And like,
- 39:56Speaker 3: he was such a gentleman about it. Like I, I
- 39:58Speaker 3: wouldn't try and I would always go light the safety
- 40:00Speaker 3: up on that first play to let them know that
- 40:02Speaker 3: we're here to play baby. That would cam. He lights
- 40:06Speaker 3: me up.
- 40:07Speaker 1: I'm like, Oh crap.
- 40:08Speaker 3: I'm stumble. I'm like, what the, he's like, good job.
- 40:11Speaker 3: You'll be, or he was just like, I forgot what
- 40:13Speaker 3: he said, but he was like really cool.
- 40:15Speaker 1: I'm like, right.
- 40:22Speaker 3: It was funny, man. That was a fun game.
- 40:25Speaker 1: It was a really fun game.
- 40:26Speaker 3: I overshadowed a lot that game because of the net,
- 40:28Speaker 3: our next one with the 28 to three, but that,
- 40:32Speaker 3: that was like such a exciting, incredible heart palpitating Superbowl.
- 40:38Speaker 3: Like it was just crazy.
- 40:41Speaker 1: It was crazy. And then our guy, Chris Matthews comes
- 40:43Speaker 1: out of nowhere and like, Is having the game of
- 40:46Speaker 1: his life. I don't know if he had a catch
- 40:48Speaker 1: before that day.
- 40:49Speaker 3: And that was a great play by Malcolm on that scene.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Phenomenal play. Phenomenal. That interception, that's what blew me away.
- 41:00Speaker 1: You never pick that. It usually bounces off your chest
- 41:02Speaker 1: and it's like to the ground.
- 41:05Speaker 3: Malcolm had an unbelievable game for an undrafted kid. who's
- 41:11Speaker 3: literally working at Popeye's. You know, that's the story. Old Mount.
- 41:16Speaker 3: Undrafted kid and replaces a guy in the Super Bowl mid-game. And, like,
- 41:22Speaker 3: we're relying on this kid. And, like, he comes in.
- 41:25Speaker 3: He had a couple of those scenes that, like, that
- 41:27Speaker 3: he PBU'd. And then he plays that play. And, like,
- 41:32Speaker 3: you're like, damn, that was a great play. If you
- 41:34Speaker 3: see his extension and how he accelerates with his eyes.
- 41:37Speaker 3: You know, like, he's got, like, a really cool max
- 41:39Speaker 3: skill at that. And then that play happens, but they
- 41:42Speaker 3: come back and have the mental fortitude to still, like, break, like,
- 41:48Speaker 3: pull the trigger, break. A lot of guys could have
- 41:51Speaker 3: put their tail in between the legs on that one.
- 41:53Speaker 1: 100%.
- 41:54Speaker 3: Like, that's where you got to tip your cap. A
- 41:57Speaker 3: young kid, undrafted dude.
- 42:00Speaker 1: One thing I love about the summer, Mitchell, is how
- 42:02Speaker 1: easy everything feels. The days are a little more relaxed,
- 42:05Speaker 1: and I find myself reaching for the same comfortable places
- 42:09Speaker 1: go anywhere pieces again and again. That's why I keep
- 42:12Speaker 1: coming back to Quince.
- 42:14Speaker 2: I tell you what, Richard, I've spoke about it a
- 42:16Speaker 2: number of times. I got these cashmere joggers, right? Black, beautiful.
- 42:21Speaker 2: They're perfect, man. Summer nights, chilling out, you know, on
- 42:25Speaker 2: the patio. I throw them on. I've enjoyed them so much.

- 42:55Speaker 1: Richard for free shipping and 365-day returns. quince.com forward slash Richard. Jules,
- 43:03Speaker 1: you and Rob have a new season of the Gronk
- 43:05Speaker 1: and Jules show with a new episode dropping on September 9th,
- 43:08Speaker 1: right as the season kicks off. What can fans expect
- 43:11Speaker 1: from the show and the new episode?
- 43:13Speaker 3: Man, I expect a lot of the relationship that Gronk
- 43:16Speaker 3: and I have all over social that we've played with.
- 43:19Speaker 3: And it's an opportunity for people to kind of get
- 43:24Speaker 3: to sit in a locker room. Like the time in
- 43:29Speaker 3: between the work is what we've tried to capture is like,
- 43:34Speaker 3: you know, when you have, when you have 10 minutes
- 43:36Speaker 3: before your next meeting and you go back to your
- 43:39Speaker 3: locker and you got your homeboys there and you guys,
- 43:41Speaker 3: you see that play by, you see the, you see
- 43:44Speaker 3: that game and you guys, you guys may like argue,
- 43:47Speaker 3: you may agree, you may do some, some guy may
- 43:51Speaker 3: come sniper a comment from somewhere that you're like, what
- 43:53Speaker 3: the hell? You know, there's all these little, communication factors
- 43:58Speaker 3: that you have in a locker room that we try
- 44:00Speaker 3: to give to people to listen and enjoy. And, and, and,
- 44:05Speaker 3: you know, it's been fun. It's been fun being able to, uh,
- 44:10Speaker 3: to continue to work with Gronk, but also to be
- 44:13Speaker 3: in football and be part of the fan base of football.
- 44:16Speaker 3: And that's kind of what the Gronk and Shook Gronk
- 44:18Speaker 3: and Jewel show is, you know, it's just, you know,
- 44:21Speaker 3: another group of guys that may have played in a,
- 44:24Speaker 3: the game, but just like you guys, we're all fans
- 44:27Speaker 3: of the game. We want to just continue to talk
- 44:30Speaker 3: about it and be involved in it because it's been
- 44:32Speaker 3: such a pleasure and a privilege to get to play
- 44:36Speaker 3: in the league and, and, and do the things that
- 44:38Speaker 3: we've done.
- 44:40Speaker 2: A lot of people don't know this, but Richard was
- 44:43Speaker 2: actually in a commercial with Gronk years ago and he
- 44:45Speaker 2: drove a tandem bike with Richard and Gronk.
- 44:47Speaker 3: I can't remember that.
- 44:50Speaker 1: That was great. Alberto beef jerky.
- 44:52Speaker 2: Before we let you go, Jules, what's the wildest story
- 44:54Speaker 2: that you can share on the show of you and Gronk?
- 45:02Speaker 3: One year, Rob had a broken arm, and I had
- 45:05Speaker 3: a broken foot, and it was the off-season. And, you know,
- 45:12Speaker 3: we get the whole memo before leaving out for Memorial
- 45:15Speaker 3: Day weekend. We go to this place called Fugawi in Nantucket.
- 45:18Speaker 3: It's like these boat races. It's like a crazy... party
- 45:22Speaker 3: or like 25, 28, whatever, 26, 24. And, uh, you know,
- 45:29Speaker 3: let's not be a, let's not be a big story.
- 45:31Speaker 3: We hear in the memo from our, our, our coaches,
- 45:35Speaker 3: we don't need distractions, yada, yada, yada. Well, like me
- 45:40Speaker 3: and Rob are at, I think, uh, what is it?
- 45:44Speaker 3: Cisco brewery. And we're rolling around and like, there's a
- 45:48Speaker 3: huge crowd or so we're going somewhere. And, We're on
- 45:52Speaker 3: a golf cart and we both jump on. I'm in
- 45:54Speaker 3: a boot. He's got a broken arm. The golf cart
- 45:57Speaker 3: takes off. We both fall out. It's a huge viral
- 46:04Speaker 3: clip that goes around and barstool and all this stuff
- 46:07Speaker 3: at that time. We get in back to the facility.
- 46:11Speaker 3: When we come back as a team, the first thing
- 46:13Speaker 3: we get up is our two so-called best players are
- 46:19Speaker 3: out here. We can't even get healthy. This is how,
- 46:23Speaker 3: you know what I mean? So he made an example
- 46:25Speaker 3: out of us, and we're just sitting there, like, looking
- 46:28Speaker 3: at each other. Like, man, no one's off limits. But
- 46:36Speaker 3: those guys had so many fun times. I mean, the
- 46:38Speaker 3: first time I met Gronk, or the first time out
- 46:40Speaker 3: of training camp, you know, with the rookies, you don't
- 46:43Speaker 3: really know who they are until that first, like, training
- 46:48Speaker 3: camp exit go out. You know what I mean? You're like,
- 46:52Speaker 3: everyone's in camp mode, so you're in sweatsuits. You're never
- 46:56Speaker 3: in a real environment. The first time I see Gronk
- 46:59Speaker 3: in a real environment, we're at a club in Boston
- 47:03Speaker 3: or downtown Splash. It's called Splash or something. And I
- 47:08Speaker 3: see this big-ass dude. No one knew who he was
- 47:10Speaker 3: at the time because he wasn't the Gronk yet, which
- 47:13Speaker 3: later changed. He was like a beetle anywhere he went
- 47:16Speaker 3: anywhere with Gronk.
- 47:17Speaker 1: Right, right. Still.
- 47:18Speaker 3: And so... He goes, and I see this guy sweating
- 47:23Speaker 3: profusely through a long button-down shirt, dancing on the dance floor,
- 47:28Speaker 3: doing this crazy Gronk move thing he does, by himself,
- 47:33Speaker 3: mind you. Like, well, people looking at, like, what the
- 47:36Speaker 3: heck is going on? I'm, like, walking in, and he
- 47:39Speaker 3: walks off, and there's this lady... going to serve food
- 47:44Speaker 3: and he just grabs like a handful of shrimp and
- 47:46Speaker 3: he eats it and he says, what's up Jules? And
- 47:49Speaker 3: like daps me up. I like this dude.
- 47:52Speaker 1: This guy is a legend.
- 47:55Speaker 3: He's a beauty. This guy's a beauty. That's the, that's
- 47:59Speaker 3: the Gronk.
- 48:00Speaker 1: That's the Gronk. I love, I love it. I love Rob.
- 48:03Speaker 1: Every time I run into him, man, it's, it's like the,
- 48:06Speaker 1: the quintessential like jock, Every stereotype of a jock is
- 48:12Speaker 1: what Gronk is. He's actually a really smart nose ball,
- 48:15Speaker 1: but likes to have a good time, likes to have
- 48:19Speaker 1: a good time.
- 48:20Speaker 3: He's like secretly like really, really smart.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 48:24Speaker 3: He's really, really smart. People don't understand. Whenever you see
- 48:28Speaker 3: Gronk throw out like a math problem to him, and
- 48:31Speaker 3: he'll freaking answer it in like 10 seconds. Like quick.
- 48:36Speaker 3: He's really good with numbers, bro. I always... Because he'd
- 48:39Speaker 3: always be... You know, we'd be talking. You hear what
- 48:41Speaker 3: that guy... He's like, oh, yeah, you got... You know,
- 48:45Speaker 3: he'd break it down. And I'm like, oh, damn.
- 48:49Speaker 1: Right, right, right, right, right, right. But don't let it
- 48:51Speaker 1: go too far. You know, people don't want to... People
- 48:53Speaker 1: don't want to understand that side of him. But, you know,
- 48:55Speaker 1: that's not here nor there.
- 48:56Speaker 3: He's a good time, though. But he's also one of
- 48:58Speaker 3: the most genuine, like, human beings you'll ever meet. Like, he's...
- 49:02Speaker 3: He's actually super inspiring to be around daily. Like, just because...
- 49:08Speaker 3: Whatever he does, he works really hard at. He's just
- 49:11Speaker 3: in his own little world. The guy doesn't care about
- 49:14Speaker 3: anything but like his family, his friends and like doing
- 49:19Speaker 3: a good job at whatever he's doing and having fun
- 49:22Speaker 3: at it. He works super hard. And he, whenever you
- 49:26Speaker 3: do like a commercial with Gronk or anything, like he'll
- 49:29Speaker 3: know his lines like insanely well. Like he he's, he's
- 49:33Speaker 3: just a great worker. He's got a great attitude. Like I,
- 49:36Speaker 3: I try to tell my daughter about girl, we need
- 49:38Speaker 3: to be like, We need to be a little baby Gronk.
- 49:42Speaker 3: Great worker. Always works.
- 49:45Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 49:45Speaker 3: He's just a great.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Always a positive attitude.
- 49:47Speaker 3: Always a positive attitude. That's why you love him.
- 49:51Speaker 2: Jules, we greatly appreciate you joining us, man. All of
- 49:55Speaker 2: our listeners, make sure you check out new episodes of
- 49:57Speaker 2: the Gronk and Jules show all season during the NFL season.
- 50:01Speaker 2: Thank you so much for joining us, Jules.
- 50:03Speaker 3: We're going to deliver... I believe we'll be delivering Mondays, recaps, like,
- 50:09Speaker 3: reactional to the weeks, me and Gronk, and then Wednesdays
- 50:12Speaker 3: or Thursdays, we'll kind of do preview style. I'll do
- 50:15Speaker 3: that solo a little more, but we'll have guests. We'll
- 50:19Speaker 3: have Gronk be in there. But it's going to be
- 50:23Speaker 3: a fun, fun show that we're really excited to make.
- 50:30Speaker 1: I can't wait to watch it. I can't wait to
- 50:31Speaker 1: watch it. Hit that sub button if you're new. Make
- 50:34Speaker 1: sure you go over and sub to the Gronk and
- 50:38Speaker 1: Jewel show as well. As always, brother, great seeing you.
- 50:41Speaker 1: Great being a part of this. I'm going to have
- 50:43Speaker 1: to jump on you guys' show so we can talk
- 50:45Speaker 1: about all the good old times again.
- 50:47Speaker 3: And shout out to our current both. We share a teammate,
- 50:52Speaker 3: Carissa Thompson.
- 50:54Speaker 1: Yeah, shout out to CT. CT.
- 50:57Speaker 3: Isn't it crazy? It's our first time. Yeah, you have.
- 51:01Speaker 3: girl teammates in like the facility like with our you
- 51:04Speaker 3: know the ladies that help you know we'd have you
- 51:07Speaker 3: know women helping us with cafeteria or in the upper
- 51:10Speaker 3: division but this is like your first my first time
- 51:13Speaker 3: having like a girl teammate and it's like man it's
- 51:16Speaker 3: so cool they're so thoughtful in their gift giving they
- 51:20Speaker 3: always oh my god it's like a good shoulder to
- 51:22Speaker 3: lean on with any kind of factor.
- 51:25Speaker 1: It puts so much pressure on you though you know
- 51:27Speaker 1: because it's like we're not thoughtful at all like I
- 51:30Speaker 1: was like, I bought y'all gifts two days ago.
- 51:32Speaker 3: It's the worst. I mean, she gives these crazy, like,
- 51:37Speaker 3: just thoughtful gifts out of the blue. I'm like, man, guys,
- 51:42Speaker 3: you know, at the locker room, we had to, like,
- 51:45Speaker 3: organize a secret. There had to be, like, three-week notice, something.
- 51:49Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 51:50Speaker 3: Coming off the top of the dome. It's crazy.
- 51:53Speaker 1: And then it'll be inscribed with something really kind and
- 51:56Speaker 1: thoughtful from one of your memories.
- 51:58Speaker 4: Yes.
- 51:59Speaker 1: You know, something that happened down the road. And you're like,
- 52:02Speaker 1: you know, I'm really not the kind of friend I
- 52:05Speaker 1: thought I was.
- 52:05Speaker 3: See, maybe that's just, you know, that's why it's awesome
- 52:10Speaker 3: to have a girl teammate. That's very thoughtful.
- 52:12Speaker 4: Right.
- 52:13Speaker 3: And it's our first time experiencing that, bro. We're using
- 52:16Speaker 3: a bunch of a-hole dogs.
- 52:19Speaker 1: That's it. That's it. I see you. Never talk about anything. Hey,
- 52:24Speaker 1: all right, dog. You doing all right? It really doesn't
- 52:26Speaker 1: matter what the answer is. All right, brother.
- 52:28Speaker 3: I haven't seen each other in 10 years.
- 52:30Speaker 1: Hey, you good?
- 52:31Speaker 3: Hey, and it's good.
- 52:32Speaker 1: It's good. We're going to leave it like that. If
- 52:36Speaker 1: you say you're not good, oh, brother, I hope it
- 52:38Speaker 1: get better.
- 52:39Speaker 3: But now we got CTs over here giving me gifts
- 52:43Speaker 3: and stuff. I don't know what this feeling is. What
- 52:46Speaker 3: the heck is going on?
- 52:48Speaker 1: Right. You know what I mean? As a teammate. It's hard.
- 52:52Speaker 1: It's hard. And she's the captain of our team. You know,
- 52:54Speaker 1: we came out there fresh off the field and she,
- 52:57Speaker 1: CT runs a tight ship up there, baby. Tight ship.
- 53:00Speaker 3: She's a great, she's a great asset, great teammate, great friend.
- 53:06Speaker 3: And it's, it's, it's really cool that we get to
- 53:08Speaker 3: share her.
- 53:10Speaker 4: It is.
- 53:11Speaker 1: It is, man. She's the best in the business. Never
- 53:13Speaker 1: gets as much credit as she deserves. Hope she, she
- 53:15Speaker 1: deserves everything in the world. So hopefully she gets it soon.
- 53:17Speaker 3: Isn't it crazy how like, your perspective of like media
- 53:21Speaker 3: and stuff changed once we got into it you're like
- 53:23Speaker 3: oh man you're like i i went from like scouting
- 53:28Speaker 3: like players and then like not even really looking into
- 53:30Speaker 3: that world and then you get into like the media
- 53:32Speaker 3: and then like you kind of like scout other people
- 53:35Speaker 3: and like how they and you're like oh they're everyone's
- 53:38Speaker 3: really damn good.
- 53:40Speaker 1: Everybody's really good nfl Bro, it's crazy just watching her
- 53:45Speaker 1: go prompter and getting us to commercial sometimes because it
- 53:48Speaker 1: will be like over talking and then it will be
- 53:50Speaker 1: like 10 seconds to commercial. You guys got to get out.
- 53:52Speaker 1: And then CT will just grab it. We'll see you
- 53:56Speaker 1: later on. Toyota halftime report. We'll get back with you soon.
- 54:00Speaker 1: And you'll be like, how did you get us out
- 54:02Speaker 1: of there? I thought there was no way.
- 54:04Speaker 3: Dude, I always like I'll read her teleprompter before our
- 54:09Speaker 3: show just because I want to see how she's like.
- 54:13Speaker 3: I'm terrible on the prompter.
- 54:15Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Yes. Yes.
- 54:19Speaker 3: CT me out there. Won't even see it. This is good.
- 54:22Speaker 1: Right. They're like, you got six seconds, CT. Skip two lines.
- 54:27Speaker 1: Get to the right there. Just get the point of
- 54:28Speaker 1: it across. And you're like, she's tough.
- 54:31Speaker 3: But she also, she'll go in and she sets those lines, too. Like,
- 54:36Speaker 3: she'll read it beforehand. Like, she's super prepared. She's not
- 54:39Speaker 3: ever winging it. You know what I mean? Never.
- 54:41Speaker 1: Never.
- 54:41Speaker 3: Like, so she'll go and because you could always see
- 54:44Speaker 3: on the prompters of how people like they'll have certain
- 54:47Speaker 3: things underlined or something or it's highlighted or italicized or space.
- 54:54Speaker 3: It's crazy.
- 54:56Speaker 1: But we appreciate you, brother. And as always, we appreciate
- 54:59Speaker 1: everybody joining us. As I said, hit that sub button,
- 55:02Speaker 1: hit that like button.
- 55:04Speaker 2: This game preview segment is presented by Netflix. Watch week
- 55:08Speaker 2: one of the NFL on Netflix. The Los Angeles Rams
- 55:12Speaker 2: versus the San Francisco 49ers live on Netflix, Thursday, September
- 55:17Speaker 2: 10th at 8.35 p.m. Eastern time. Richard, you've talked a
- 55:22Speaker 2: lot about how improved the Rams are and how they
- 55:26Speaker 2: have the advantage going into this game. How important is
- 55:30Speaker 2: it for the 49ers to come out and establish themselves
- 55:35Speaker 2: in this game, especially after such a loud offseason?
- 55:40Speaker 1: It's very important. It's very important. It's important to quiet
- 55:44Speaker 1: down the distractions. I think people are still waiting for
- 55:48Speaker 1: Brandon Ayuk to sign with the Washington Commanders or the
- 55:52Speaker 1: San Francisco 49ers to release him. And then I don't
- 55:56Speaker 1: know if Jed's figured out that situation, but I think
- 56:01Speaker 1: the San Francisco 49ers, when it comes to the Rams
- 56:04Speaker 1: and the 49ers, I know Rams fans are, oh, Richard
- 56:07Speaker 1: Sherman doesn't believe in us, and who cares what he says? Clearly,
- 56:09Speaker 1: you care because you're watching. But I think it's, again,
- 56:13Speaker 1: going to come down to who can make a play.
- 56:17Speaker 1: I think it's Sean McVay versus Kyle Shanahan, and I
- 56:20Speaker 1: know that McVay has won the last few, won, what,
- 56:23Speaker 1: four out of the last five. But last year, I
- 56:25Speaker 1: just keep going back to that Mac Jones-Kendrick Bourne game
- 56:28Speaker 1: where they were able to go to L.A. and win
- 56:30Speaker 1: that game. Both teams... You know, people are acting like
- 56:33Speaker 1: the Rams were the favorites last year and did all
- 56:35Speaker 1: these crazy things, but they have the same record as
- 56:37Speaker 1: the San Francisco 49ers. So it's really not as crazy
- 56:41Speaker 1: as you think it is because the San Francisco 49ers
- 56:44Speaker 1: had that record with an incredibly banged up team. They
- 56:46Speaker 1: lose George Kittle, Fred Warner, Nick Bosa, all these incredibly
- 56:51Speaker 1: elite players that are top five at their position. And
- 56:56Speaker 1: they were still able to have that record and have
- 56:58Speaker 1: a chance going down a stretch and had a chance
- 57:00Speaker 1: at the one seed Had they found a way to
- 57:02Speaker 1: win against Seattle? What was that? Week 17. And so
- 57:06Speaker 1: I think you got to be careful if you're the Rams.
- 57:08Speaker 1: And obviously Sean McVay's talked about them coming in a
- 57:11Speaker 1: day before the game. And on the flip side, you
- 57:15Speaker 1: talk to the San Francisco 49ers and they explain the
- 57:18Speaker 1: analytics and the data and all the things behind them
- 57:21Speaker 1: coming in a week early and how the people who
- 57:23Speaker 1: went to Australia to kind of scope it out before
- 57:27Speaker 1: felt like, hey, after three days, you know, they were
- 57:29Speaker 1: still dragging. They still felt... you know, sluggish. So that's
- 57:33Speaker 1: why the San Francisco 49ers are going out so much earlier. Now,
- 57:36Speaker 1: I think the Rams are banking on them just kind
- 57:39Speaker 1: of never feeling that, never understanding that they've been traveling.
- 57:42Speaker 1: And by the time they feel jet lag, they'll be
- 57:44Speaker 1: back in LA. But I think that's going to have
- 57:46Speaker 1: a factor. I think, do I think that Aaron Donald
- 57:48Speaker 1: and Miles Garrett are going to factor into this game?
- 57:50Speaker 1: No question about it. But I also think that Trent
- 57:55Speaker 1: McDuffie and Watson aren't, I don't know if I feel
- 57:59Speaker 1: like They fit this scheme as well as they fit
- 58:02Speaker 1: Spagnolia's scheme. And that's the question I have. How are
- 58:08Speaker 1: they going to fit? Now, are they great players in
- 58:10Speaker 1: this league? No question about it. We're not questioning their
- 58:12Speaker 1: talent or impact, but they're man-to-man corners. And it's not
- 58:17Speaker 1: like the Rams are going to play a ton of
- 58:19Speaker 1: man-to-man coverage. And so, can they adjust to that style?
- 58:23Speaker 1: Can they be as dominant as they were in that
- 58:25Speaker 1: style of play? I know that Mike Evans is going
- 58:28Speaker 1: to they're going to try to feature Mike Evans in
- 58:31Speaker 1: this offense. They're going to obviously feature Christian McCaffrey. It
- 58:34Speaker 1: looks like Nick Bosa and George Kittle are making a
- 58:37Speaker 1: trip and trending in the right direction. Nick Bosa is
- 58:40Speaker 1: the key factor to this defense. If he can go
- 58:42Speaker 1: and he's healthy and he's explosive and he looks like
- 58:45Speaker 1: the Nick Bosa, the Nicholas John Bosa that won defensive
- 58:47Speaker 1: player of the year a few years ago, that makes
- 58:50Speaker 1: this defense a lot more dangerous. We got some question
- 58:52Speaker 1: marks in the secondary, but I know that Kyle Shanahan
- 58:56Speaker 1: and this offense are going to be able to score points.
- 58:58Speaker 1: If they can keep Brock Purdy upright, and that's a
- 59:00Speaker 1: big if in this game, then I feel really comfortable
- 59:03Speaker 1: with them in this game. And you'll know early on
- 59:05Speaker 1: how this game is going to go. Like in the
- 59:07Speaker 1: first couple of drives, if they can keep him up
- 59:09Speaker 1: right he's going to deal he's one of the best
- 59:11Speaker 1: quarterbacks in the National Football League and his rapport and
- 59:14Speaker 1: his connection with Kyle Shanahan is impeccable right now so
- 59:16Speaker 1: I think they're giving themselves the best chance to to
- 59:19Speaker 1: win but if they can't keep him up right that's
- 59:23Speaker 1: when the struggles and that's when the concerns come in
- 59:25Speaker 1: so Richard.
- 59:26Speaker 2: Who do you got winning this one.
- 59:33Speaker 1: You're going against the MVP of the league in Matthew Stafford.
- 59:35Speaker 1: You've got Puka Nakua and Devontae Adams, Kyron Williams. A really, really,
- 59:41Speaker 1: really incredible offense from Sean McVay of the Rams. Obviously,
- 59:45Speaker 1: on paper, one of the best defenses. You're putting two
- 59:48Speaker 1: former defensive players of the years on the same D-line, potentially,
- 59:52Speaker 1: along with some other really good players. Really, really good
- 59:56Speaker 1: corner play. I just think the travel factor is going
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: to be a factor. I think that Kyle's going to
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: find a way to try to neutralize his pass rush
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: to some degree. It's the first game of the season.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: You've got to work out the kinks and wrinkles, and
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: Kyle's going to have this team as prepared as any team.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: Stripling is going to probably have a really, really impactful game,
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: not being able to be doubled because Mike Evans is
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: going to take the attention. If you don't double Mike Evans,
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: if you don't show him the attention he deserves, then
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: he's going to make you pay. I got San Francisco 24-27,
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: or 27-24.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: That's going to surprise a lot of people. Obviously, again,
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: it has been a loud offseason for the San Francisco 49ers.
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: Dajon Love, what will he do in this game, man?
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: That's a question on everyone's mind right now, Richard. I mean,
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: let's get right to.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: It. I mean, he'll have his helmet, that's for sure.
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: NFL on Netflix is back and better than ever. Week
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: one of the upcoming NFL season features the division rivals
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers going head-to-head
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: in the league's first ever regular season game in Australia.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: airing on Netflix live from Melbourne Cricket Ground Thursday, September
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: 10th at 8.30 p.m. Eastern Time. Heading into the holiday season,
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: Netflix will add the NFL's first ever Thanksgiving Eve game
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: on November 25th to its plate, featuring the Green Bay
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: Packers visiting the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium. Continuing
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: the Christmas Day tradition, Netflix again has two games on
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: December 25th, The Green Bay Packers visit the Chicago Bears
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: at Soldier Field at 1 p.m. Eastern time, followed by
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: the Buffalo Bills against the Denver Broncos from Empower Field
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: at Mile High at 4.30 p.m. Eastern time. Then in
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: Week 18, with playoff stakes on the line, catch the
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: final game of the regular season live on Netflix. Watch
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: Week 1 of the NFL on Netflix. The Los Angeles
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: Rams versus the San Francisco 49ers. Live, only on Netflix, Thursday,
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: September 10th at 8.35 p.m. Eastern Time. Let's talk Sunday
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: night football. The Cowboys travel to New York to face
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: division rival the New York Giants. John Harbaugh's debut for
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: the Giants. This Giants team is young. They're hungry. They
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: were injured last year. Key position players. You got Malik
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: Nabors going out with an ACL injury. He's going to
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: be coming back. How is he physically right now? Cam Scadaboo,
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: obviously he suffered a gruesome injury.
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: He'll be back.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: John Harbaugh is looking to put his fingers on this
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: team and mold them the way that we saw the
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: Ravens play. Do you like them at all in this
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: matchup against Dallas with Dak Prescott, C.D. Lamb, etc.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: I give them a puncher's chance, but again, I just
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: have a hard time betting against this Dallas Cowboys offense.
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: I know how explosive they're going to be. You know
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: what C.D. Lamb has been. George Pickens is very motivated
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: and played fantastic last season, especially in C.D. Lamb's absence.
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: When C.D. Lamb was a little banged up, George Pickens
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: usually picked up the slack in a big way. Dak
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: Prescott can still deal with the best of them. I
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: think they feel really good about their defensive line, and
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: I think that's the biggest thing. Great defensive lines are
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: how you win Super Bowls and how you win championships
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: and how you win in this league. The Giants of
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: all teams know that. You've got Abdul Carter. They have
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: a great D-line of their own. Obviously, they traded away
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: Dexter Lawrence, but I think they feel really good about
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: the defensive line that they're going to put out. And
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: obviously you've got to factor in what John Harbaugh is
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: going to do and the stability he's going to bring,
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: the credibility that he brings. But I don't think that's
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: going to be enough to beat this Dallas Cowboys team,
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: especially early in the season. That could send them into
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: a spiral if they give away a winnable game early.
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: But I don't think that's this team. I think they're
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: going to feel really good. I think they're going to
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: win this game. I think Dallas wins this game. We'll
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: give them 31 points.
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: 31-21.
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: I know you like the Dallas Cowboys. For those of
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: you that missed our NFC prediction and preview episode, Richard's
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: got the Cowboys winning the division. Clearly you like them, Richard,
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: so we'll see. This is obviously a nice test for
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: them on the road against the Giants to start. We
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: got another matchup in the AFC, and we want to
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: talk elite versus elite. You got the Buffalo Bills, one
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: of the most vaunted teams offenses in the league, traveling
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: to Houston to take on one of the most gruesome
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: defenses in the league. Richard, what are you looking for
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: in this game? I mean, Josh Allen, this guy is
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: getting it done year after year, but hasn't been able
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: to get Buffalo to the promised land, really. That's what
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: Buffalo is waiting for. What are your expectations of this
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: Buffalo Bills team as they travel to Houston and face
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: this tough defense?
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: They got, they got some question marks and, and mostly
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: on the defensive side of the football. Um, I think,
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: you know, what you're going to get out of Josh Allen.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: I think DJ Moore, you know, has shown the flashes
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: that he needed to show in the preseason for whatever
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: that's worth. Um, I think they have a good enough rapport. Um,
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: obviously Khalil Shakur and, and Keon Coleman, uh, Keon Coleman
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: has had an up and down, um, career in, in Buffalo,
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: but it seems like he's gotten himself back on the
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: right track. Obviously, uh, You got Cook in the backfield,
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: and he can take over a game at any time.
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: And then Josh Allen, I think, can he overcome this
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: incredible Houston front and secondary? Like we talked about before
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: on the AFC preview, they have one of the best
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: secondaries in the league with Kalen Bullock, Jalen Petrie, Blankenship,
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: Derek Stingley, Kamari Lassiter. And, you know, you got a
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: pro bowler with Al Shayer at the Mike linebacker. then
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: you've got Daniil Hunter and Will Anderson who can really
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: both ruin a game at any time. And if you
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: can't consistently block them, then this game becomes much tougher.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: But if anybody can overcome that, it's Josh Allen. And
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: on the flip side, which C.J. Stroud are you getting?
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: That's going to be what determines this season. I think
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: this is a top two, top three defense in the
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: National Football League. They're going to get their job done.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: They're going to turn the ball over. They're going to
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: put pressure on the Buffalo Bills. But can they score?
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: is the big question. Can Nico Collins regain his all-pro form?
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: Can these young guys really get back to what they were?
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: Can our guy David Montgomery get this run game back
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: to a credible place in the National Football League? And
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: if the answers to those questions are yes, and C.J.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: Stroud gets back to form, then this Houston team becomes,
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: you know, dang near the favorites in the AFC because
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: of how great this defense is. But that's a big if.
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: So who do you got winning this game?
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: It's just too much, too much. Uh, yeah, there's just
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: too many question marks with CJ Stroud. I got Buffalo
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: 20 to 14. I think Josh Allen overcomes his defense
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: enough to, to pull out a win.
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: Buffalo gets a tough road win in week one per
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: Richard Sherman. Let's go to our next game on our radar.
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: The Chicago bears, uh, fresh off an NFC North championship
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: last season, traveled to Carolina, who surprised a lot of
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: folks by winning their division as well. This is going
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: to be a battle of two young quarterbacks, Caleb Williams
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: and Bryce Young. Ben Johnson, first year coach to Chicago
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: last year, came in and totally flipped the script, changed
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: that identity in that locker room. Their offense definitely became
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: difficult for defenses to defend, uh, What do you think
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: of this Chicago Bears team? And ultimately, what do you
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: think of this game, this week one matchup against Carolina,
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: who gave the LA Rams a ton of stress and
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: trouble during the playoffs?
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: Well, I think it comes down to this Carolina defense.
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: I really do. I think they were the reason that
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: they won the division last season. They're the reason that
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: the Rams had a tough time, these corners. Mike Jack
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: and J.C. Horne, really do a great job turning the
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: ball over, tight coverage, standing up in one-on-one matchups, even
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: when a lot of pressure is put on them. Derrick
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: Brown in his front really gets after people when they can.
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: And if they can play as they did all season,
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: this is going to be a game. Now, what is
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: the next step for Bryce Young? Does he continue to
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: build a rapport with Tetrell McMillan? You know, do they
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: start to take the next step? They lost DJ Moore.
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: The Bears have lost DJ Moore. And, you know, now
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: they're going to have to depend on guys to take
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: a step up. Roma Dunzey and Luther Burden. And obviously,
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: Colston Loveland is going to have a bigger role. Can
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: Caleb Williams continue to ascend in the way he did,
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: you know, the later parts of last season and through
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: the playoffs? He played well against the Green Bay Packers,
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: made some really incredible passes. But I think this one
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: is going to be all about Bryce Young. How does
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: this season start for Bryce Young? Obviously, they were able
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: to win the NFC South with a losing record last year.
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: I don't know if that's going to be enough this season.
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: This game will go a long way to determining whether
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: he's going to get paid next year or not or
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: whether they're going to be picking another quarterback and he's
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: going to be looking for a place to stay. If
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: he can show more consistency for Dave Canales and this
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: Carolina Panthers offense, I think they'll have another good shot
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: to make the playoffs.
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: So who you got winning this game, Richard?
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: It's going to be tough to beat the Chicago Bears.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: The Chicago Bears have too many veterans. They were a
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: playoff team last season, so was Carolina, but they won
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: the NFC North, won a lot of games. You've got
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: a young quarterback who's playing with confidence, and you've got
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: a run game that you trust. You've got an offensive
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: line that you trust. I've got the Chicago Bears winning 24-17.
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: Sticking in the NFC North, we've got another division battle here.
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: The Green Bay Packers head to Minnesota. to take on
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: the Vikings. Obviously, the Vikings have had a lot of
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: change this offseason. They bring in Kyler Murray from Arizona.
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: He'll be under center starting this game for the Minnesota Vikings.
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: And the Green Bay Packers are dealing with a slew
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: of question marks. Obviously, Michael Parsons suffers the ACL injury
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: last season. Where is he at in his recovery process?
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: You know, they lose Josh Jacobs to the suspension. A
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: lot of eyeballs are going to be on Marshawn Lloyd.
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: the running back out of USC. They just trade for
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: Caleb Johnson out of Iowa. So there's question marks for
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: both teams entering this game. Who do you like in
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: this game, this week one opener, Packers versus Vikings?
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: I think you got to like the Green Bay Packers.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: It's just one of those things. Again, it's a division game.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: Kyler Murray is going to be explosive. It's tough with
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: a running, a mobile quarterback. Kevin O'Connell is going to
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: get him to the plays he likes. Justin Jefferson is
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: going to be great Addison Brown, Jawan Jennings, you know,
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: this receiving core is going to find a way to
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: get open defensively. Brian Flores is going to put a
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: ton of pressure on Julian Love, force him to make decisions,
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: force him to see looks that he's uncomfortable with. But
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: this receiving core has been a strength for the Green
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: Bay Packers and what is it, Jalen Reed and Christian Watson. um,
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: guys they felt really good about. Obviously, Romeo Dobbs has
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: gone on to New England. Um, but they have firepower.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: They believe in, in, uh, their quarterback. Um, I think
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: Matt LaFleur has a little bit of pressure on him
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: this season to produce. Um, the last few seasons they
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: made the playoffs, but it's been a seven seat. Um,
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: you know, barely, barely beat out the Minnesota Vikings. I
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: think Minnesota was nine and eight. They were nine, seven
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: and one. Um, They traded for Micah Parsons. When will
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: he come back? What will his impact be when he
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: comes back? Can they survive without him? I just, you know,
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: Minnesota could win this game. Hmm. Kyler Murray and Aaron Jones,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: and they're consistent. Ryan Flores, pressure, Minnesota's at home. I
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: want to say Green Bay. I really do. But now
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: I'm speaking myself into Brian Flores and the chaos that
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: they create on defense and the chaos that Kyler Murray
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: is going to create offensively just using his legs even
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: if the offensive line isn't up to snuff early on.
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: I don't know, Mitchell. I don't know. It's a lot
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: closer than then it probably should be. Without Josh Jacobs
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: for Green Bay, who's a real tone setter for that offense,
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: let's go Minnesota 23-20. Wow.
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: I don't think a lot of people would think that,
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: but I'm with you, Richard. I like Minnesota this year.
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: I think Kyler Murray is going to be a massive
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: upgrade for him at the quarterback position. I also think
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: they should never have let Sam Darnold walk, but Hey,
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: that was their decision. Let's move on to the AFC here.
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: These are two teams that are in flux a bit.
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: The Baltimore Ravens at Indianapolis facing the Indiana Jones, now-led
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: Indianapolis Colts. The Baltimore Ravens, obviously, let go of John Harbaugh,
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: have brought in Jesse Minter to try to reshape this
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: team and bring them into championship form.
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: Richard, what.
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: What do you think of this game? Because it seems
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: to me we're dealing with two teams that are in
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: a bit of an identity crisis. The Colts were hot
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: as a skillet to start the season, and about midway
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: through they fell off. And the Ravens started slow and
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: then ultimately got hot. What are your expectations of this
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: week one matchup, the Ravens at the Colts?
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: Well, it's who can regain their form quick, who can
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: regain their form the fastest, I think. Jesse Minter is
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: going to obviously pride himself on getting his defense together.
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: They have proven veteran players who've played some good football.
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: Kyle Hamilton has been an all-pro. Marlon Humphreys has been
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: an all-pro and had a number of interceptions last year.
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: Can he be an elite player again? Can that D-line
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: get pressure in the way they have in the past? Offensively,
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: I think you can depend on Lamar Jackson and Derrick
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: Henry continuing to be the dynamic players that they are.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: Lamar always seems to be in the MVP hunt. The
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: Indianapolis Colts and Jonathan Taylor ran the ball really well
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: last year. I know they feel great about their secondary play.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: DeForest Buckner in the middle. That D-line getting pressure. This
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: is a game that could go either way. Obviously, Baltimore
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: has had their struggles defensively, and that's why it's hard
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: for me to give it to them. Let's go with
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: Indiana and the Jones and the Colts. We'll go with
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: 23-17 Indianapolis.
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: Indianapolis.
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: Okay. We'll see.
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: All right, everyone.
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: You know what time it is. We've got Denver versus
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: Kansas City coming up, and you can catch all the
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: action on your terms with Sling TV. Get instant access
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: with day passes starting at just $ 4. 99. Three or seven
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: day passes or monthly plans. No long-term contracts or commitments.
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: Let's break it down. Richard, Denver... It was a team
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: that I think surprised a lot of folks last year.
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: They ended up winning their division, unseating the Kansas City
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: Chiefs who have been so dominant in that division. And
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: we see Patrick Mahomes coming back from a nasty knee
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: injury towards ACL last year. This is a tone-setting game
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: for both teams, a division matchup. What do you think
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: about this game? Two teams, Denver's vaunted defense against this
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: Kansas City Chiefs team, that is led by Patrick Mahomes.
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: What are you looking to see?
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: We're looking to see if Patrick Mahomes is the Patrick
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: Mahomes that we remember. And, you know, coming off an injury,
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: you have to question that. You have to see what
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: he puts back on tape. But I think that's why
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: they went and got Kenneth Walker, a guy that you
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: can turn around, hand the ball off to, and expect
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: explosive plays. I think Andy Reid, one of the best
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: play callers and play drawers in the National Football League's history,
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: is going to have a great plan for him. And
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: a great plan to to negate this Broncos pass rush,
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: whether it's screens or draws or, you know, things are
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: just outside zone, things that really make these pass rushers
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: pause and don't just allow them to keep teeing off
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: on Patrick Mahomes. Also, they have really fast receivers on
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: the outside. And then Travis Kelsey, Travis Kelsey, old man,
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: old man, and what appears to be his final season
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: in the National Football League, you know, he will be
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: a factor in this game. defensively, what do they do
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: to replace Watson and Trent McDuffie? Can these young guys,
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: who they're going to have to play, man the helm
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: and get them through this time? But again, you're at Arrowhead,
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: one of the loudest stadiums. I'm sure there's going to
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: be emotional, you know, raucous environment for Patrick Mahomes' return.
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: Sometimes you don't appreciate what you have until it's gone.
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: I don't think this is one of those times, but
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: I'm sure that everybody in Kansas City is going to
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: be on their feet for a majority of this game,
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: appreciating and enjoying having Patrick Mahomes back, having a great
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: run game, having Andy Reed and, and knowing that with
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: 15 under center, they have a chance to win a Superbowl. Now,
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: if you're also the Kansas city chiefs, the Broncos aren't
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: who you want with in your first game. Um, But
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: the Broncos, without Jonathan Cooper, are much different and much
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: more manageable to deal with. Obviously, they have Patrick Sertan
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: and a great secondary, but who is he going to
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: follow in this? Is it going to be Rasheed Rice?
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: Who's he going to follow? Are they just going to
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: have to play left and right because what is Rasheed
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: Rice going to be right now? Is it going to
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: be Xavier Worthy and his speed, the speed demon out
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: there for the Kansas City Chief? I don't know. But
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: I think Bo Nix and Sean Payton are a great
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: tandem and a great team, and them getting Jalen Waddell
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: is obviously going to be a big-time deal. I just
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: think it's going to be hard to walk into Arrowhead
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: in this type of environment. Obviously, Patrick is coming back
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: first game back, going to have to knock some of
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: the rust off, but It's just tough to beat them
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: at Arrowhead Stadium with Patrick Mahomes under center, with Andy
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: Reid on the sideline. But this Broncos defense is still
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: a great defense, and I do love a great defense.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: And that offensive line from Kansas City has struggled mightily.
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: Denver was in the AFC Championship in moments, you know,
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: a bone-nicks injury away from probably playing in the Super
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks. Added Jalen. Jonathan Cooper is exemplist.
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: Is the defense still good enough? I think it is. 20-13. 21-13, Denver. Wow. Okay.
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: Patrick Mahomes, fresh off the injury, suffers a loss week
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: one per Richard Sherman.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: That's what I think. My top three rules for the
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: football season, know your team, know the schedule, and don't
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: overpay to watch the games.
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: That's why Sling makes sense this NFL season. You can
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: get the action you actually want. including Monday Night Football,
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: NFL Network, and Red Zone, with flexible package options starting
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: at $ 19. 99 a month.
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: Watch football on your terms this season.
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: Head to sling.com and find the package or pass subscription
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: that works for you.
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: Yes, yes, it's going to be tough for him, Mitchell,
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: but we cannot get out of here without you mentioning
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: your Honolulu Blue hometown Detroit Lions, Mitchell. They take on
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: the Saints. Who do you have winning this game?
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: I'm glad you brought them up, Rich. I'm beyond excited.
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: I'll be in Ford Field at this game cheering on
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: the home team, the Honolulu Blue Boys, as you call them.
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: I like the Lions. I mean, they're at home. I
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: think they got a lot to prove this year. They
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: were 9-8 last year with an offensive line that was
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: in shambles with a defense that had the most IR'd
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: players in the NFL.
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: They're healthy.
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: I think they have Brad Holmes has addressed the right
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: positions this offseason. I'm excited to see this all come together.
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: We're going to see a lot of Jameer Gibbs. There's
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: a reason he's going number one in fantasy drafts, and
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: that's because David Montgomery is no longer there. Jameer Gibbs
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: is time to shine. And then obviously I'm on Ross St.
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: Brown.
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: He's been Mr. Steady Eddie, Mr. Consistency, always reliable. But
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: the bigger question is Jamison Williams. The guy reportedly has
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: been putting together a heck of a camp. I know
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: he's locked in. and he looks like a different receiver.
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: He had a great season last year, but can he
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: add to that? The guys can blow the top off
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: of a defense, and I think he can be a
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: true asset and difference maker against any opponent. So I
- 1:23:17Speaker 2: look for the Lions to get everybody involved. I think
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: they're going to be a run-heavy team this year with
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: Drew Petson coming over, the OC from Arizona. He likes
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: to run a lot of 12 and 13 personnel. The
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: Lions cut four tight ends on this roster. So I
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: expect to see a lot of running the football, and
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: then we're going to be sprinkling in quite a bit
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: of play action off of that. I'm on Ross St. Brown,
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: Jamison Williams. Eyes go to Isaac Tesla. We'll see if
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: he can rise up in his second year. So my
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: eyes to go to that offense, but also defensively, a
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: lot of questions answered there as well with no Kirby
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: Joseph and no Brian Branch on that back end. What
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: can the Lions be defensively? Can they be difference makers
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: in that back end? We shall see. Richard, I got
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: the Detroit Lions handling business at home. I think they'll
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: put up 34 points, and I got them giving up
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: 24 points. I think this defense is the major question mark.
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: I trust that they've added enough on that D-line. Lee
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: McNeil's back. They addressed the opposite of Aiden Hutchinson in
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: the draft. That linebacking corps, bringing in Devin White, who
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: was a co-leader in tackles last season, off free agency
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: late in training camp. I think he'll help. But again,
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: that secondary is where my eyes go. That's my point
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: of concern. And that's what I will be watching on Sunday.
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: But I got the Detroit Lions winning 34 to 24
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: over the New Orleans Saints. I appreciate you asking the question, man.
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: Anytime, Mitchell, anytime. I want you to speak about your boys.
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: I do have question marks about that secondary. You lose
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: those two really good safeties, and then Terryon Arnold unexpectedly.
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: You've got to replace all of that, and this receiving
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: court from New Orleans is nothing to really take for granted.
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: And from what we've been hearing about Tyler Shaw, he's
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: been having a really great camp, and they're really confident
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: about what he can do. And, you know, some people
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: speaking as if He's the future of that program. So
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: we shall see. That's the cool thing about the football is,
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: you know, all this speculation, all this talk is about
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: to come to a close, and the cleats hitting the grass,
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: and we shall see. As always, Mitchell, anything can happen.
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: When the cleats hit the ground, we never know how
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: these games are going to go. We get to watch them.
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: That's what we love about this game. And for all
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: you fans, please hit that sub button. Hit that like button.
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: Thank you so much for watching the show. We'll see
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: you next time.
