- 0:04SPEAKER_00: This is the Mostly Football Show, a uniquely Australian take on the NFL and all things in the world of sport.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Over to you, Pete.
- 0:16SPEAKER_01: Have you, misters?
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: Good morning, good evening, good afternoon, wherever you are in this wide world.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Welcome to the Mostly Football Show.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: It's been a while.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: A combination of uh losing jobs, stressing out, and going on bloody holiday again.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Man, KG has so many holidays, eh?
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: I'll have a word with his boss.
- 0:37SPEAKER_02: Yes, more holidays than Ernie Dingo, that boy.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: Ah, so the so the 49ers, the Vikings, and the Chiefs remain undefeated.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: The Browns are no longer dog shit.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: And the NFC North is everyone's to lose and no one's to win.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: It's me and Matt here for our return.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Uh OGs are back.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Matt, how have you been?
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: I've been well, mate.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: Sorry, uh, most of the um deferrals have been on my account.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: Um, but um, and I could have actually picked a better week to make a comeback than uh than this week, because I I know what you're gonna think about.
- 1:19SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah, good to be back, mate.
- 1:21SPEAKER_02: And um hopefully Mr.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: Butler um survives the ski slopes of Japan and uh can join us again next week.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, uh uh for us to talk about Dallas and Green Bay as well.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: But let's let's kick off with that um before we delve into the last four weeks of the NFL and and what's good and what's not good.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: Um a couple of things that stood out this week, uh most notably for me uh was the uh pundits and everyone else, including myself being shown wrong as Chicago had their pants pulled down and their ass smacked at Lambeau Field on Monday morning or Sunday evening, depending where you are.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: Um how worried are you, Matt, after that performance?
- 2:05SPEAKER_02: Um somewhat, but also not somewhat.
- 2:10SPEAKER_02: I think um everything into perspective.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: Um so let's go back a little bit and qualify this.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: Uh Kayla went down.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: I think week two we um managed to get magnificent performance.
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: Oh no, we lost uh we lost the cracking game of nine-three.
- 2:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I pulled in.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: Case Keenum showed us there was life in the old cowboy yet.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: Um look, I think where I'm going with all of this is that as I said at the start of the year, I think we go as Ben Johnson and Calab goes.
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: I think he's he's a a decent chance of returning next week.
- 2:52SPEAKER_02: But it yeah, it looked like a pretty putrid performance.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: And if you um I think I was looking at some much more learned people than you and I their predictions for the week, the majority of people, despite the records, had the Packers down um to win the game.
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: I I always had the feeling that you know if we were going to drop the ball anywhere, it would be a Lambeau.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah, I think it was it was pretty horrible top to bottom.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: We couldn't run the ball, which is the foundation on which we've built success over um many of the dubs in the preceding week, and you know, uh Tyson Bajan had a horror show in case Keenum couldn't reproduce his old cowboy magic again.
- 3:39SPEAKER_02: So disappointing to lose heavily, um you know, partially expected, as you say, it's uh everyone's to win and everyone's to lose, or words to that effect.
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: Um the Vikings keep on trucking, it's you know, everybody else is doing their best to um to make ground up on them.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: I guess the Vikings are gonna uh take the easy schedule and uh probably roll their way to winning the NFC.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: Uh North.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: Uh look uh for me, uh and like I say, we we won't spend too long on this, uh, it was a better performance by the Packers.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: They still can't run.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Um a lot of the uh pundits uh and and the commentators on uh Monday morning were saying that this is where uh Matt LaFlill has to give Jordan Love free reign and uh stop running the ball on first and second down and having third and long.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: Um turns out third and long was third and very long many times against the against the Bears.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: So that's where I would be more concerned for your Bears is the number of deep passes that uh Jordan Love threw uh uh certainly in the second half.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: Um there was one series where um a wrong penalty was given against a a deep throw for offensive pass interference.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: Then they followed it up with another deep throw that only just missed, and then the third one uh Christian Watson caught for a touchdown, but three times they went deep and three times they were finding their receivers.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: So that would be my concern for the Bears.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: Um again if you can't get your running game going, you've got to get your passing game going.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: Um I think the occasion probably got to Tyson Bajant more than anything else.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: There's probably no worse a place to um be a starting quarterback than Lambeau Field, although uh sorry, backup quarterback, although Michael Penix seemed to do a good job not not very long ago.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: So uh Yeah, I mean we need to give credit to your boy.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: Jordan Jordan Love had himself a day, 25 out of 31 yeah, for uh for two touchdowns.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: Just going back to you know those comments that we made about earlier in the football.
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: Um the total uh rushing attempts both sides combined, 50 for 151 total yards.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: So uh Bears 24 attempts, 81 yards, Packers 26 attempts for a total of 70 yards.
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: So it was a day for the Airways, and um obviously Jordan Love was the king of the Airways um this week.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: Well look, I I I think and you can jump on me if I'm wrong, and this is the last comment I'm gonna make.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: I think that's probably a reflection that our our wide receivers are a better group of wide receivers um than what Chicago have.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: I think uh the Amand Burden, I think he's uh he's gonna be good, and he's gonna be good for a long time, which is obviously why you let DJ Moore go.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: But beyond him, Carsten Loveland still hasn't reflected his last season's performance.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: Um and maybe some of that's not Avic Caleb around.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: So uh we'll find out in the next uh few weeks and see how we go.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: But let's let's stay in the NFC North and go to the surprise package of the Minnesota Vikings.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: Uh well he looked down and out against Green Bay after the first half of the first game of the season, um, stormed back with multiple turnovers and have ridden that defensive wave for five consecutive victories.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: Uh is this uh something they're gonna hold on to, or are we gonna see them maybe stumble in the return games against uh the Bears, the Packers, and possibly the Lions?
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think the one thing that I mean I was looking at some of the results over the last few weeks and and a number of them failed to make sense to me again.
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: I don't think it's quite as chaotic as last year.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: Um maybe that's because we're numbed with the fact that anyone can beat anyone on any given day.
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, based on what we saw last year.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: I mean the Chargers windless um still having been you know a strong side last year is is testament to that.
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: And the Texans, who are a team I've you know, I've declared to have a bit of a preseason fancy for, only picked up their first win in week five.
- 8:04SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah, Kyler Murray's back at the reigns for um the Vikings, it was always the plan.
- 8:11SPEAKER_02: Obviously, since we last um broadcast, um JJ McCarthy's gone out the trapdoor, which was interesting.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah, I mean, talking about Jordan Love Small for Day, um Kyler Murray did as well.
- 8:26SPEAKER_02: And um the Vikings are um churning out wins and keeping their opponents to you know reasonably manageable scores.
- 8:36SPEAKER_02: And as we um reflected upon, I think when we when we were referencing the Cowboys in the main and the Bears the week one uh performance, um you stand a much greater chance of winning games in this league if you can restrict your opponents rather than get into weekly shootouts with them.
- 8:57SPEAKER_02: And it just feels as though um the Vikings and that, you know, that defence that they run there is is um on top of its game at the moment.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and and uh I think we mentioned this many times last season, right?
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: Defence who are not well off to win new games.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: I don't think Kyler Murray's ever gonna set the world alight as a as a great core quarterback, but you know, he doesn't have to if the defence is conceding lots.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: Um not conceding lots.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: Uh you touched on uh probably the biggest disappointment of the season in there, the Chargers.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: Um five, they're now on an eight-game losing streak going back last year, which meant and they have the worst the joint worst record along with Miami and Tennessee this season so far.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: Um Jim Harbor and Justin Herbert going 0-5 was not what I had on my bingo card for this year.
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean I think we would have partially or almost fully expected the Titans and the Dolphins to be um basement dwellers at this stage of the season, but don't think many of us saw this happening to the Chargers.
- 10:05SPEAKER_02: I mean, Harbaugh was a you know a winner.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: Um we've seen that um you know him at Michigan, obviously 49ers.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: I can't imagine for a second this is sitting well with him, but you know, just ex extrapolating that thought process, how much more time is he gonna get?
- 10:28SPEAKER_02: Um you know, this is a horrendous start, far from anywhere close to being the main storyline in the Chargers Plan script of the year.
- 10:40SPEAKER_02: So I think this is gonna be a very, very interesting one to keep an eye on.
- 10:45SPEAKER_02: I would say, you know, extremely lengthy mathematics could possibly see them sneaking in.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: But their season's gonna be over and done in a week or two if they don't start um you know racking up back-to-back dub W's.
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: And um yeah, I didn't see this one coming in a month or Sundays.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: No, uh and uh here's uh here's one of the most damning statistics.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: I know it's gonna be an odd one, but this is probably what sums up their season.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: All right, that the Chargers' average starting field position through the first five games is their own 26 yard line.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: The average starting defensive field position, yes, but the average starting defensive field position is their own 39.5 yard line, which is in both cases the worst in the NFL.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: That those and and uh you know, through the preview show, um, and and we'll we'll pig our Kerry next week when he's back, talking about the Texans and what we expected this year, they've also had an absolute disaster for a star, um, again, winning their first game, and we were predicting they would be comfortably in the playoff.
- 12:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, just finishing off on the charges, Pete, I've just sort of stepped back through their week five, week four, week three opponents, and if memory serves, they lost this week to the Broncos, in week four to the Seahawks, in week three to the Bills.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: So they've had a very, very, very tough schedule.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: Although if I really press my they did lose in week two to the Raiders, and I think their week one loss was a bit of a surprise to us at the time.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: Who did they play?
- 12:36SPEAKER_02: Uh they lost to the Cardinals, so I think they've gone from losing two games that we didn't expect to potentially lose in three games that we would have thought that they would have lost.
- 12:49SPEAKER_02: But um that schedule was pretty stiff.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: Um, I know we'll come on to do a little bit more of a preview in week six, but just picking up on that thread of how much more time has Jim Harbaugh got, do you see they've got in week um week six?
- 13:06SPEAKER_02: Chiefs away.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: Oh hello, and and I'll come back on on we'll come back on the Chiefs because I think my uh uh my preseason prediction of the Chiefs are bag is is looking pretty good.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: Um however, first by the way.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: Sorry, Pete, they've got the Yeah, they've got the Chiefs next week and then the bye.
- 13:29SPEAKER_02: And I think that might be what you were coming on to say.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: I would imagine that that that's a point at which somebody in charge's front office staff, you know, that may be an inflection point.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you you could be right.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: You get a couple of weeks off, right?
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: I was actually gonna say uh to uh go on to talk about the Chiefs because I think they've started incredibly well.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: Yes, um, they only just snuck past the Raiders, who've been a real surprise package, three and three and two so far this year, were three and oh, um, but now now three and two.
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: Um but the Chiefs just had a bye week.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: Uh and uh this is the same time last year where Chicago, Green Bay, they both had a bye in week five, and the injuries started to pile up around about week eleven.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: Um and there's a lot of thought about getting an early bye, which sounds good because uh you know it probably might do the charges the world of good.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: But you know, by the time that you can get to week 15-16, um, you're getting a lot more fatigue in in your in your team.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: So it's an interesting one.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: So um let's let's touch a little bit on the Texans as well, because they're uh they're not quite as bad, but they've been equally um not so good as what as what we thought they would be.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: Um probably you if you look, they lost 34-30 to Dallas in week four.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: Um Dallas have been uh Dallas did the most Dallas thing ever.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: Uh I've I think I think in the WhatsApp group I I sent you at X ain't Dallas or Dallasing right now in the game against the Ravens, who by the way have quietly gone to four and one um without really setting the world alike uh alight uh on that.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: Um but you know, conceding a a field goal with God knows how long left of uh just giving them too much time and and giving up too much space in the secondary just to go down the field and and kick a field goal.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: And I thought, man, you've gotta you've gotta start managing these games.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: There's a couple of cases this week um of just poor clock management.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: Um if you saw the commanders game, um that that ended up in the tie, 27 each, uh, and it ended up in a tie because the commanders um LSU number five, um as as we as we like to call them, uh, failed to execute.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: Failed to execute to stop the clock, just wandering back to the line.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: They could have kicked a field goal.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: Just more clock management.
- 16:05SPEAKER_02: I know with regards to the cowboys, Schotten Lima did go on record saying that he needed to take accountability for that, you know, that particular um lack of game management.
- 16:19SPEAKER_02: And we've seen historically, Pete, you know, as a Bears fan, I we were seeing poor clock and game management on the regular flat.
- 16:31SPEAKER_02: Um and you know, it that cost him his job.
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: So um, you know, we know Jerry's a results man.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, that that division that Dallas are in is wide open.
- 16:46SPEAKER_02: Wide open.
- 16:46SPEAKER_02: I wouldn't say one of the strongest.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: It is wide open, as you quite rightly pointed out at the start of the season.
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: The Eagles aren't the Eagles of old.
- 16:55SPEAKER_02: And the Giants, who, you know, I hadn't got a whiff of interest in uh are atop that NFC East division.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: But um yeah, taking that back to the start of the season.
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, taking that taking that back to Schottenheimer.
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, he simply has to do better, and kudos to him for coming out and putting that on the public record.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: But um, you know, I can see that being a situation that could get out of hand quite quickly in Dallas if they don't start um recording some wins because um that division is just sitting there and asking to be grabbed by scruff of the neck.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: And let's just briefly touch on the on the Eagles.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: The Eagles had a shocking loss who uh I don't know I they were in London playing uh Is it the Jaguars?
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think it was the Jacksonville Jaguars, who again have quietly gone to four and one again this season.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: They had a what a 13-4 season last year, they're four and one already this season.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: They're you know, it wasn't uh a flash in the pan.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: But with eight seconds left, they kicked and allowed Jag the Jaguars a return.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: They ran it into field goal range with one second left and kicked a field goal, eight seconds.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: Well, maybe you're kicking in the end zone.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: Make them start on their own thirty.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: Eight seconds.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: Eight seconds left, and and you just you you you kind of wonder uh and I know as the the coaches you go out there and you tell them to do things and it's how they execute, it can always be in the execution that goes wrong.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: But but that that division is an absolute basket case.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: So the Giants are currently top with a three, one and one record.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: Uh the commanders are bottom with a one-three and one.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: The Eagles and Cowboys are both on two and three.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: Um bold take here.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: Do the Eagles have a Jalen Hurts problem?
- 18:56SPEAKER_02: Um, they very well could have.
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: I mean, a lot of narrative in the press is they might have a Nick Siriani problem.
- 19:04SPEAKER_02: Um but a combination of the two could very well be the root of their pain and suffering at the moment.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: Um Yeah, they're definitely um they're definitely a million miles away from the team of two to three years ago, and even the team of last year, where they were um underwhelming but still strong.
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: Um, and you know, there was a a a reasonable amount of f formidableness to to them.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah, I mean the Giants in on top of that division at 3-1-1 and they don't have a quarterback.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: Well, exactly.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: Uh uh my bold predictions at the start of the year was the Giants were gonna do uh secretly well because this was gonna be uh Jackson Dart's breakout season.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: They forget the fact that Jackson Dart is an absolute prick.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: Um and anyone who uh introduces Donald Trump deserved to be booed and and carded off the field.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: Um he went, and they are still three, one-on-one.
- 20:10SPEAKER_02: So um Jay Jameis Winston went 33 out of 54 for 326 yards and three touchdowns.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: My take from that is that's not gonna happen every week.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: Um I think Jameis well, I think the Giants think that Jameis Wilson is a bit of a tick and time bomb, and maybe why they've taken a bit of a punt on JJ McCarthy.
- 20:37SPEAKER_02: But um, you know, you uh you've ridden a hot hand to get a tie.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: Um, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Jameis Wilson's stat line looks very much like Tyson Bajent's stat line next week when they play.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: So I think this is um this is the challenge that the Giants have got.
- 20:59SPEAKER_02: Um you know they they will miss Jackson Dart, irrespective of what we think of him.
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: He's a talented young man.
- 21:08SPEAKER_02: Um and um yeah, they're not setting the world a light on the ground either, Pete.
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: Um 28 Russian attempts for 103 yards versus the the commander's 30 attempts 202 yards last week.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, I you know if you if you sort of dive deep into the numbers here, uh my feeling is that there's a lack of sustainability around what the Giants are doing, which you know brings us back to that that thread of this is a this is a division that's wide open and it just needs somebody to take it by the scruff of the neck.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: Let's uh I mean you touched on there um late end of set back end of September, JJ McCarthy being traded.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: How how how his star is?
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: For that he was traded for a fifth round draft pick.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: That was it.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: That was it.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: So um I mean, there's an argument here, Pete, that this is smart business by the Giants and that they feel that this is a by-low that will pay dividends.
- 22:17SPEAKER_02: And you know, if you just take a step back to the thing that we were just talking about, do you want Janice Williams under centre for the rest of the season?
- 22:26SPEAKER_02: Or do you want to, you know, a fifth isn't, you know, a fifth is average average currency in terms of of value.
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: If you feel you can do some work on JJ McCarthy for three, four weeks, I don't know when their buy is.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: Um, probably in that time frame, I would have hazarded a guess.
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: You know, they could have a kid who's performed at college level, wasn't brilliant, but wasn't despicably bad in his first year as a Viking.
- 23:00SPEAKER_02: Um, and it may be that he just needed a chain change of scenery and to operate under a new coach.
- 23:07SPEAKER_02: But um, you know, Harbor has clearly um worked wonders with Lamar.
- 23:17SPEAKER_02: Um you know, I know we're not comparing apples and apples, and Lamar at his best, and JJ McCarthy at his best are probably worlds apart from one another.
- 23:27SPEAKER_02: But I can potentially see A the reason and B the upside in the Giants doing what they don't.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: I totally get it.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: Uh my my surprise is it was all they got was a fifth round, all the Vikings wanted was a fifth round draft pick.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: That's he he was third on the depth chart though.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: So again, if you flip this around and try and look at it objectively, you know, if you're gonna get a fifth or a fourth, say for your third string quarterback.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: I mean, I know if the Bears put Case Keenum on the block, he had a career game two weeks ago, we wouldn't get a fifth for him.
- 24:03unknown: No.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: Not even close.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: No, but I mean, I know Jay McCarthy's in his early twenties and Case Keenum's, you know, um as old as John Wayne, but um, you know, you're not getting fifth-round draft picks for third string quarterbacks often.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: No, I I and I appreciate that, but this time last year, JJ McCarthy was a starting quarterback in the NFL.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: No, Casey Keenum, Case Keenum wasn't, he was.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: Uh and and had he not been concussed or had a couple of injuries, he probably would have been all season.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: Now that you know, a lot of time last year we talked about what on earth were the Vikings doing getting rid of Sam Darnold.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, after going 14 and 3, uh you then you go all in on JJ McCarthy, and all of a sudden now he's he's above Carson Wentz.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: And you know, I I I just thought for someone who was one year ago a starting NFL quarterback, smart move for the Giants to go and get him because he's uh he's got pedigree in starting.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: But um he's also got pedigrees in injuries.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: Um and yeah, no, well, maybe that's all he's worth, the fifth round.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: Uh but you touched on Lamar Bell.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: So so why don't we finish on sorry mate, just finishing on the value of of backup quarterbacks.
- 25:21SPEAKER_02: I mean it's a it's a very loose comparable, but I was trying to think, you know, when's a backup quarterback been traded in the last season and a bit, and what you know, what value?
- 25:31SPEAKER_02: So the Bengals acquired Joe Flacco and a 2026 kick from the Browns in exchange for a 2026 fifth.
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: So for the same price that the Bengals yeah, it's so and and you would argue that Flacco, even though he's even older than Case Key now, um, you would argue that he is much better equipped at stepping in to let's say a giant's offense there um you know, particularly given he's played under Harbor previously.
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: Um so you know, I I would I would have been surprised if I wouldn't be surprised.
- 26:18SPEAKER_02: I uh there's a there's a world in which they look at Joe Fla um Joe Flacco as well as an option to bridge the gap, and they've obviously thought that JJ McCarthy is the right direction to move in.
- 26:30SPEAKER_02: So um yeah.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: Oh well uh again uh that you touched on Lamar in that conversation then.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: Let's get let's take a look at the AFC North.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: It's uh it's vastly turning into uh the NFC North at the moment.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: Uh uh what started with uh you know what what seemed like a clear winner.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: Uh we have all teams above 500, five games in.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: Um the Ravens top it four and one, and the Browns, the Steelers, and the Bengals are now all three and two.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: So the Browns sit second, I guess, because they beat the Steelers.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: I think they beat the Steelers, they've yet to play the Bengals, the Ravens, but um after that disastrous first game, um Mr.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: Watson has picked them up.
- 27:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, it's picked them up.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, um I think again a surprise we didn't have um Cleveland um pegged for too many wins in our preseason roundup.
- 27:37SPEAKER_02: Um you know, interestingly, across their five games, they've scored 93 points and conceded 112.
- 27:45SPEAKER_02: So they are one of a very small number of teams in the league that have a negative points differential but a winning record.
- 27:55SPEAKER_02: Um, again, you know, I always enjoy kind of digging into the numbers a bit and asking myself what what or you know what does that mean?
- 28:06SPEAKER_02: Um they went down last week to the Jets, which the Jets were just god-awful against the Bears.
- 28:13SPEAKER_02: They they couldn't move the ball.
- 28:15SPEAKER_02: You know, I think their first down you know, total number of first downs was horrible.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: But um the Jets got over them 17 points to 12 this week.
- 28:27SPEAKER_02: And the Browns, you know, the Browns um, you know, struggled to move the ball in that game.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: So um, you look, I think this is a this is a a bit of a stodgy mess, really, in the middle.
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: I I didn't have the pit to move Steelers down for a winning record at this stage.
- 28:44SPEAKER_02: I did the Bengals, certainly didn't Cleveland, and I I didn't have Baltimore pegged as a four-and-one team, although the sports book did, you know, has been having them earmarked as you know, second or third favourite from um from preseason.
- 29:00SPEAKER_02: So uh I think this will all sort itself out, but the bull the Baltimore Ravens could um create some daylight between them and themselves over the course of the next and them and the rest of the field over the course of the next few weeks.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: They absolutely could.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: They've got the Browns this week, so that that could uh op open themselves up a little bit.
- 29:19SPEAKER_01: Of course, if they lose it, uh and let's face it, the the Ravens have have got away with the couple um this year, that then you know the the whole thing is open for everybody.
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: Um uh and if we go up to up into the AFC East, obviously the Bills uh the Bills had a good win this morning.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: Uh um the Brad the Rams will will come on to them shortly.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: Um Rams had a field goal blocked in overtime to win the game.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: And uh and uh the Bills then went on and clinched it themselves.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: So the Bills are upsetting the world alike, conceding a lot of points, but but getting through.
- 29:55SPEAKER_01: Their one loss is to the Patriots who sit second on three and two.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Um Drake May had a dreadful start to the season and was picked up in the last two games.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: I think after Jordan Love, he was the the second highest scoring quarterback last week.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: Even the Jets are are two and three.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: So um Geno Smith seems to have got the Jets at least rolling a little bit as well.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: But then then, of course, at the bottom we've got uh uh our old defensive coordinator from Green Bay, Jeff Hafley, and uh our old backup quarterback Malik Willis and the Dolphins who are having a dreadful season at zero and five.
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: Um I think the Bills are gonna go on and win that quite comfortably.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: That that uh AFC East division from here.
- 30:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I think we called out in our pre-season preview the the Bills have got a new offense and a new defence.
- 30:50SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm not surprised to see a bit of fluctuating consistency there.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, just looking at the stats from this morning, Josh Allen was very tidy, 12 out of 19, 210 yards for one on one, touchdowns and interception, but he did rush the ball for 121 yards on on 10 carries.
- 31:12SPEAKER_02: So he remains a legitimate threat, whether he's putting his legs to use or he's you know finding you know, finding his receivers um um you know down the field.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: So uh yeah, I don't I don't think you can count um a Josh Allen team out easily.
- 31:33SPEAKER_02: Um, and I think you know he's one of the most talented players in the league, and he'll he'll always ensure that the Bills have got um a chance.
- 31:43SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, that's a decent win for them on the road this morning.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, let me ask you a question before we get to are the Rams uh really uh going to do anything this year.
- 31:55SPEAKER_01: Um put yourself in the shoes of uh an NFL head coach.
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: Do you want to look at your stat line and see that your quarterback has rushed for 120 yards?
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: Or would you rather your running backs were carrying that legwork?
- 32:12SPEAKER_02: Well, I think this is a an answer of it depends, it depends, and it depends.
- 32:17SPEAKER_02: Uh I think it depends on who your quarterback is.
- 32:20SPEAKER_02: Um, it depends on what your game plan is, and it depends on how your quarterback with that game plan in mind reads the defense and the play as it unfolds.
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: Um, so do you know, do I want Caleb rushing for 121 yards a game?
- 32:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, sure.
- 32:39SPEAKER_02: I do probably don't want Case Keenum doing that, but um, you know, Josh Allen's always been a bit of a dual threat, and the modern quarterback generally tends to be someone who can sling it and leg it, and um we're seeing Josh do that.
- 32:58SPEAKER_02: I haven't watched enough Bills football this season to work out how much of that is designed, um, and and how much of it is improvised.
- 33:09SPEAKER_02: But um I I guess there's a there's a there's a question back from me to you to say how much do you necessarily care if you're winning games against arguably one of the league's sort of top five teams on the road I but you know I I think really where I'm going with all of this, Pete, is it's uh to me it's largely situational.
- 33:33SPEAKER_02: But um yeah, what what are your thoughts?
- 33:38SPEAKER_01: Well uh I I kind of have mixed thoughts.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: One it you know uh and and you know you watch the Packers and and probably you you watch the Bears a little bit more than anybody else, and you see both teams have mobile quarterbacks, and and you know Jalen Hurts used to be a mobile quarterback, Jaden Daniels is a mobile quarterback.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: Um Josh Allen's not the most mobile, but he does make yards.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: And and you know, I watched the game this morning.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: Some of his rushing looked like it's designed play, some of it just looks like there's no option for him to go to.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: Uh as a coach, I'm happy that he's doing that.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: But that minute he crosses the the scrimmage line, you know, uh all bets are off in terms of how how hard he can be hit.
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: Um and what we're seeing with kind of the backup the slide helped.
- 34:29SPEAKER_01: The slide helps, but uh uh obviously um there's been a couple of roughing the the quarterback penalties given this year um for being hit in the slide.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: Um so you you are opening yourself up to that big hit and potential injury.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: So uh you know I think it's a great stat that win.
- 34:48SPEAKER_01: But but but if I got to the end of the season and my number one uh rusher was the quarterback, I I'd I'd be taking a hard look at my running backs and saying, why can't you do something like that?
- 34:57SPEAKER_02: Um just just for the record just for just for the record, James Cook did run for 111 yards as well uh today for Buffalo.
- 35:07SPEAKER_02: So um they're getting it done on the ground, um 234 total yards on the on the ground against the Rams defense as wonted as it is.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: Um is Marles Garrett back yet?
- 35:18SPEAKER_02: I must admit, Pete, I haven't watched any of the suit.
- 35:21SPEAKER_01: No, he he is not.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: Um and you know the Rams will kick themselves for not winning this game after getting a turnover in overtime, then having a block field goal, and of course that's that's your two possessions out of the way, so next next next goal wins, and um that's what happened.
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: Um now let's let's think about the NFC West.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: I think we've probably got one more to look at um after this.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: The 49ers are running away with it after the dominant display in Melbourne.
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: They're five and oh at the minute.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: Um Seahawks three and two, the Los Angeles Rams are two and three, and the Cardinals are one of four.
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: Well, we know the Cardinals are bird shit, so we don't have to worry about them.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: Five games in the Rams.
- 36:05SPEAKER_01: Um, yes, they've played the Seahawks, yes, they've played the 49ers, and yes, they've played the Bills, um, I still wouldn't have had them at two and three.
- 36:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think this is a surprising one.
- 36:19SPEAKER_02: Um and there are so many tough games in this division, right?
- 36:24SPEAKER_02: I mean, we know the NFC North is is a tough division, but if you take three out of four and objectively rank those three teams, the 49ers, the Seahawks and the Rams, I think all of us would say that you know those three teams are possibly in the top six or seven in the league, and they you know they face off against one another twice each in the season.
- 36:49SPEAKER_02: So look, the 49ers, you've just got to take your hat off to them.
- 36:53SPEAKER_02: And I I I you know what I like here, Pete, is um is the fact that they did approach that game in Melbourne the right way.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: Um they have made some smart off-season ads.
- 37:07SPEAKER_02: Rob Purdy's you know, having himself uh season so far, his current quarterback rating through five games is 119.3.
- 37:19SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, Christian McCaffrey is a legit weapon, and Mike Evans has come in and um you know he's not in the world, but he he's all he's he's presenting himself as a um you know a threat and an you know a material option for Brock Purdy in that passing game.
- 37:40SPEAKER_02: George Kittle's doing what he does, Devo Samuels come back in and it feels like old times again.
- 37:46SPEAKER_02: So yeah, that they're a very, very strong outfit.
- 37:49SPEAKER_02: Um we know Carl Shanahan's one of the best coaches, you know, he'd be in the top five coaches in the league comfortably, if not even higher.
- 37:58SPEAKER_02: Um, they're just a very, very good outfit, Pete.
- 38:01SPEAKER_02: And um whilst I you know, whilst I'd caught the mortgage savings and the car on the Rams, I'm I'm not at all upset to see the 49ers um going so well, scoring so many points, and um, you know, just showing that Lee that division who's boss.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I I don't mind either.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know, I'm a big fan of most of the Bay Area teams, the Golden State Warriors, San Francisco Giants.
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: So the 49ers are uh probably my a second team, a long way second.
- 38:34SPEAKER_01: I would say I I I wouldn't object to seeing them winning um the Super Bowl.
- 38:40SPEAKER_01: Uh I I feel that the Seahawks and the Rams are just got off to a slow start.
- 38:46SPEAKER_01: I I wouldn't want to face up to them in the playoffs because I think that's where they earned their money.
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: But the Rams went heavy with uh, you know, trading for Miles Garrett, um, you know, Aaron Donald coming back.
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: Um they they went big.
- 39:01SPEAKER_01: And I don't know if Matthew Stafford's gonna pick up, but they they you know they conceded 34 points.
- 39:09SPEAKER_01: Well 37 points in the end, I think, 34 points today.
- 39:12SPEAKER_01: Um the Bills conceded 34 points.
- 39:14SPEAKER_01: So these teams are uh relying on will score more than you.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: So um it will be interesting to see when uh they come up against a a a team with a key defense, probably like the 49ers, you know, they're they're found a little bit lacking.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: So I I think the 49ers have have set their stall there, and it's gonna be hard to actually see if they will get beaten um to the Super Bowl this year.
- 39:39SPEAKER_01: Uh I think it it's there.
- 39:40SPEAKER_01: I mean I mean I said the Packers at the start of the season.
- 39:43SPEAKER_01: I was all in on everything.
- 39:44SPEAKER_01: I said the Packers and Chiefs.
- 39:46SPEAKER_01: Um I think it's more likely to be the 49ers and Chiefs.
- 39:50SPEAKER_02: So um Yeah, and and that that would be a mighty fine Super Bowl.
- 39:55SPEAKER_02: I mean, obviously we're only sort of five, you know, five weeks in.
- 39:59SPEAKER_02: But um, you again credit to you, Pete.
- 40:02SPEAKER_02: You called the Chiefs for a comeback.
- 40:04SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, we look smart for having Brock Purdy on autopick in our fantasy league team.
- 40:12SPEAKER_02: Um we uh we um we're we're enjoying um some good football being played by you know two of the perennial um you know uh uh powerhouses, and I'm I'm here for that.
- 40:29SPEAKER_02: You know, to me and my the way my brain is built around the NFL, this makes much more sense to me than it, you know, than it did see in the Indianapolis Colts at 7 0 last year.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: Uh last year, yeah, yeah.
- 40:42SPEAKER_01: And look, um we should take our hats off to the Chiefs for a lovely bit of business getting Kenneth Walker the third.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: Um and again, yeah, probably if you're a Seattle fan, you're sitting there and wondering why your owners didn't try and stretch the salary cap as far as they could or look to drop a couple of people out the back to keep him because he has absolutely dominated um so far, and uh hopefully um he will continue to dominate um as we go.
- 41:11SPEAKER_01: But you touched on our fantasy team, the MFers.
- 41:15SPEAKER_01: Um we currently sit at 3-2.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: Um we took a loss this week, unfortunately.
- 41:22SPEAKER_01: Uh so we are three and two in the league.
- 41:27SPEAKER_01: We have a uh an 80% chance of making the playoffs, uh, which is good because mainly we've played all the teams that are above us now, so uh we get to play some of the worst-off teams.
- 41:41SPEAKER_01: Uh our backup quarterback is now Caleb Williams, so hopefully he'll be fit for when uh San Francisco have their time off or their bye week.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: Um but other than that, of course, we also have Christian McCaffrey who's uh setting the world alight, uh Javante Williams, who's doing alright for Dallas, Drake London, um, who'll score a hatful of points next week against uh against your Bears.
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: Um I've got T.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: Higgins and Sam Deporter on a bye, so I'll have to do some clever stuff around there.
- 42:11SPEAKER_01: The Ravens defense is scoring his points, and Cameron Dicker is about the only person who's scoring points uh for the Chargers.
- 42:18SPEAKER_01: So uh so we're doing all right.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: So uh the only way is up from here for the MFers.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: So uh that's a kind of a wrap of the last uh uh few weeks.
- 42:29SPEAKER_01: Let's just take a quick look um ahead to what's coming up in in the fixtures next week.
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: Uh a couple of big ones.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: Let's uh most notably start with uh Kerry versus me on Sunday night football at Lambeau Field, the Dallas Cowboys at the Green Bay Packers.
- 42:46SPEAKER_01: Um Matt, who do you think is going to win that?
- 42:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think you've you've got to feel the Packers are favoured.
- 42:55SPEAKER_02: Um looking at the sports book is only slightly um 185 to 195.
- 43:03SPEAKER_02: I think Lambeau presents such a um you know such a good opportunity for leverage for the for the Packers, and I would fully expect them to be looking to build on the momentum of crushing the Bears this week.
- 43:20SPEAKER_02: So uh I think I've got this earmarked as a much easier win than um the tab currently has 185 to 195.
- 43:33SPEAKER_01: Uh I I think it will be a uh a close game.
- 43:36SPEAKER_01: If we can stop uh Dallas running the ball, then I think we've got every chance.
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: Our our secondary, um Jonathan Gannon has got them doing well.
- 43:48SPEAKER_01: Kashaw Nixon uh took a lot of stick preseason, but he's um really stepped up.
- 43:54SPEAKER_01: And um CSA, who we got uh I think in the third round last year as a draft pick, had a A huge game against the Bears with an interception and uh a sack as well.
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: And a forced fumble as well, I think.
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: So um that's all good.
- 44:10SPEAKER_01: Um most of the other games are fairly straightforward.
- 44:13SPEAKER_01: The other game of the week is probably uh Thursday night football, which is the Broncos against the Seahawks.
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, both three and two.
- 44:24SPEAKER_01: It's at Mile High Stadium.
- 44:26SPEAKER_02: It is, yeah.
- 44:27SPEAKER_02: This one's a tough one.
- 44:28SPEAKER_02: Again, Tab have got the Seahawks at$1.62 and the Broncos at$2.30.
- 44:36SPEAKER_02: That feels the wrong way around to me.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: I've said it before, I think when the Broncos play at Mile High, that gives them a distinct advantage as well.
- 44:45SPEAKER_02: I think this one's going to be tight.
- 44:47SPEAKER_02: Um, but um the Broncos are only defeated at home so far this season.
- 44:52SPEAKER_02: They're 2-0.
- 44:54SPEAKER_02: I would expect that to be 3-0 after this week, which puts the Seahawks that would put the Seahawks at 3-3 after six weeks of the season.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 45:06SPEAKER_01: Which uh I I guess you know, if you're 500 after six weeks of the season and you've played the 49ers and the Rams and and the Broncos, you're probably thinking, yeah, that's that's not too bad a position to be in.
- 45:18SPEAKER_01: You'll have a few easier games to come.
- 45:20SPEAKER_01: Um the rest of this week's pictures look fairly straightforward.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: Um so the Jaguars against the Texans.
- 45:26SPEAKER_01: I think the Jaguars will probably come out on top there.
- 45:29SPEAKER_01: That's their second game at Wembley Stadium, so they've been in London now for two weeks.
- 45:33SPEAKER_01: Um, so uh I think that's probably okay.
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: Uh it'd be interesting to see the Atlanta Falcons against the Chicago Bears.
- 45:41SPEAKER_01: The Falcons came alive against Green Bay, uh, absolutely destroyed them um the other week with Bichon Robinson running for, I don't know, 365 million yards against us and and and having a lot of fun.
- 45:55SPEAKER_01: Um but Michael Panix got injured at the weekend and uh they lost the game because they brought two are in, and the first thing he did was throw an interception.
- 46:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Tab have got the Bears at 155, Falcons at 245.
- 46:10SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, uh Bears have got to bounce back.
- 46:14SPEAKER_02: Um these are the kind of games that they have to unequivocally win if we are going to battle our way through this tough schedule and be in the shakeup at the end of the season.
- 46:30SPEAKER_02: Um let's see if Caleb comes back.
- 46:34SPEAKER_02: Um if he doesn't, I think he'll start Tyson Bajan again.
- 46:40SPEAKER_02: But um the Falcons are performing a little bit better than I thought they would this season, so I think this one's gonna be a close one.
- 46:47SPEAKER_01: Look, I I do too, and and I think um they started off with a loss, uh a couple of losses, and then obviously rocked into Green Bay with uh uh uh Michael Penick started his first game and uh absolutely destroyed them.
- 47:02SPEAKER_01: They went then went on and won the the next week and they lost again just simply uh because uh uh two had to come into the game, I guess.
- 47:11SPEAKER_01: Um it's it's point it's looking good for Caleb Williams to return this um this weekend.
- 47:20SPEAKER_01: Uh uh I if you saw some of the practice he was doing before the Green Bay game, a lot of the both all the commentators were kind of questioning why he wasn't playing.
- 47:28SPEAKER_01: But I think I get it.
- 47:30SPEAKER_01: Uh a hamstring, as much as people took the the rise out of him or the piss out of him, whichever country you tend to be in when you listen to this, uh for his you know thumbs up like he's had his leg shattered that he'll be back next season for just for a hands hamstring tweak.
- 47:45SPEAKER_01: Um you you can't take your chances on something like that.
- 47:50SPEAKER_01: You come back in the game and do it again like like your original thought, he'll be out another 10 to 12 weeks.
- 47:55SPEAKER_01: And if you're gonna play all season with your backup quarterback, you're not making your playoffs, right?
- 47:59SPEAKER_01: So um you you're just not, or if you are, you you're the Carolina Panthers and no one else in your division can do anything, right?
- 48:06SPEAKER_01: So it's that's that's probably where you're at.
- 48:09SPEAKER_01: So that'll be an interesting one.
- 48:11SPEAKER_01: Uh uh Colts and the Titans, probably the Colts over there, because the Titans are just dire.
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: Uh the Patriots against the Jets.
- 48:19SPEAKER_01: I can't see uh Drake May losing to the Jets.
- 48:23SPEAKER_01: Um the Giants against the New Orleans Saints, despite us talking a lot about Tyler Schuff at the start of the season, um he's uh shuffled a little bit out the door um the last few weeks, and uh things haven't been uh that that good.
- 48:36SPEAKER_01: So uh so the Giants may prevail there.
- 48:39SPEAKER_01: Uh a team we haven't touched on, and we probably should, because they've also had a dreadful start, including losing to a very poor Packers team at one point.
- 48:48SPEAKER_01: The Buccaneers.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: Buccaneers against the Steelers.
- 48:52SPEAKER_01: Now I I would have Steelers as favourites uh in that.
- 48:56SPEAKER_01: I don't know what the TAB is saying, but uh the Bucks have had a dreadful start for the season.
- 49:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Tap has the Steelers at$1.65 and the Bucks at$2.25.
- 49:07SPEAKER_02: The Bucs had an awful preseason with key players not um signing contracts, um, you know, protracted negotiations, some will.
- 49:18SPEAKER_02: We I recall us talking about Baker Mayfield and how it appeared that he plays some of his better football when he's angry, and um, but yeah, the Bucs just haven't got it together.
- 49:31SPEAKER_02: They're 0-3 at home.
- 49:33SPEAKER_02: Um they um host the Steelers this week.
- 49:38SPEAKER_02: Um the Steelers are winless on the road.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: Uh I would expect the Steelers to win a close one, but um the way this season's going, um, if I was looking for a roughie this week, that might be one I'd put my money on.
- 49:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, look, you you might be right.
- 49:57SPEAKER_01: The one I'm I'm thinking that it might be worth a shout as well, the Eagles against the Panthers.
- 50:02SPEAKER_01: So it is at the Lincoln financial field, but the Eagles have had have uh, despite winning their first two games, have dropped right off.
- 50:09SPEAKER_01: No, three three losses in a row.
- 50:11SPEAKER_01: Um the Panthers are two and two.
- 50:14SPEAKER_01: Um, so you never know.
- 50:16SPEAKER_01: You never know that they at some point they have to stand up and be counted.
- 50:22SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 50:22SPEAKER_01: Uh no other games of notes, really.
- 50:25SPEAKER_01: The 49ers should beat the commanders quite comfortably.
- 50:27SPEAKER_01: Maybe the Raiders against the Bills.
- 50:29SPEAKER_01: It'll be interesting to see if the Bills can handle uh a full-on Max Crosby.
- 50:34SPEAKER_01: Um whether uh Josh Allen can continue to run away from him or or we'll see there.
- 50:40SPEAKER_01: But uh I think the Bills would sneak that, and then we're into the the Green Bay against Dallas, which uh I think, although uh on on the ESPN Pick'em, uh 85% of people have gone for the Green Bay packs, 15% for Dallas.
- 50:55SPEAKER_01: I think it'll be a closer game than that, and I hope I'm being smug and laughing in Kerry's face next week.
- 51:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the Bengals, Dolphins, Lions, and Vikings have the bye this week, which is super interesting.
- 51:10SPEAKER_02: Um I'm not sure when your bye is, Pete, but I think the Bears have the bye in about week eleven.
- 51:17SPEAKER_01: I think it'll be the same, yeah.
- 51:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so you know, going back to your point earlier, the Lions and the Vikings could very much I mean, I can't imagine how much Ryan Poles and um Ben Johnson wish we were on the bye this week to make sure that Caleb would be ready for the following week.
- 51:39SPEAKER_02: My sense is, Peter, looking at our schedule, um, if Caleb is anywhere near being able to go, he'll go this week because our opponents the following two weeks are the Patriots and the Seahawks.
- 51:54SPEAKER_02: So I would be surprised if they don't try to get him in the game somehow, either as starter or to blow off some you know, perceived rust before because they're gonna be two huge games.
- 52:10SPEAKER_02: You know, if we if if we don't come away from the Falcons with a win um and don't turn up against the Patriots and the Seahawks, things uh you know, we've gone from three and one to three and five, which is ugly.
- 52:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, your your first to worst prediction is is looking even more um more likely if that if that happens.
- 52:39SPEAKER_01: So um uh just uh to uh round that off, Chicago's by is actually uh week ten and Green Bay's is week eleven.
- 52:47SPEAKER_02: So Yeah, wow, you've got you've got away another week, that's astonishing.
- 52:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh well, I mean uh after the I think we touched on it earlier in the show, the later the by, the uh the fighting charge you have.
- 53:02SPEAKER_01: Um I don't think Mika Parsons will be turning up at uh Lambeau Field on Sunday, other than to cheer the team on.
- 53:09SPEAKER_01: So I think they're gonna probably delay as much as they can um before they bring him back as well.
- 53:15SPEAKER_01: So uh so on that bombshell, thank you very much for listening.
- 53:20SPEAKER_01: Uh everyone.
- 53:21SPEAKER_01: Uh we will be back next week, hopefully three of us.
- 53:25SPEAKER_01: And uh we'll be uh talking all things that happened in week six.
- 53:32SPEAKER_01: Thanks, Matt.
- 53:32SPEAKER_01: Appreciate your time.
