- 0:16Speaker 1: putt and practice. If you don't have time for a

- 0:23Speaker 1: dot org. Golf dot Breck dot org. Kellen Moore has
- 0:26Speaker 1: added a couple of more assistants and one of the
- 0:30Speaker 1: things that's been pretty obvious about his staff so far
- 0:34Speaker 1: is he's hired guys with whom he's familiar. Doug nus
- 0:37Speaker 1: Myer is going to be the OUTSI coordinator has they've
- 0:40Speaker 1: been together since twenty eighteen. Brandon Staley's the defensive coordinator.
- 0:44Speaker 1: You know Staley when he was the head coach of
- 0:46Speaker 1: the Chargers, hired More as his offensive coordinator, brought a
- 0:51Speaker 1: couple of other staffers from Philly. There's just a lot
- 0:53Speaker 1: of familiarity and commonality there. So at another one, Kyle
- 0:59Speaker 1: Wilber has been added to the Saints staff. He's been
- 1:03Speaker 1: the Packers special teams quality control coach Wilbur. If the
- 1:08Speaker 1: name sounds familiar, Kyle Wilber spent ten years in the
- 1:10Speaker 1: NFL as a linebacker, first six years of his career
- 1:14Speaker 1: with the Dallas Cowboys. That's when he overlapped with Kellen Moore.
- 1:17Speaker 1: They were teammates in Dallas. When Wilbur retired, he immediately
- 1:22Speaker 1: went into coaching. He was there with Green Bay as
- 1:26Speaker 1: a special team's assistant, and now he will our quality control.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Now he'll be the assistant special teams coordinator in assistant
- 1:37Speaker 1: excuse me, special teams coach in New Orleans, with Phil
- 1:40Speaker 1: Galliano being promoted internally as the special teams coordinator. So
- 1:46Speaker 1: another player with whom there's a lot of familiarity there
- 1:48Speaker 1: for Kellen Moore that he's added to his staff, which
- 1:50Speaker 1: is why this hire, the second one, is super odd
- 1:55Speaker 1: because of all of the familiarities so far on Kellen
- 1:58Speaker 1: Moore's staff, there's no connective tissue, at least none obvious
- 2:04Speaker 1: with adding Terry Joseph. Now, I like this a lot.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Terry Joseph is Listen. The Joseph family in New Orleans
- 2:14Speaker 1: are sort of, I don't know, they're kind of like
- 2:17Speaker 1: a football Royal family from the high school ranks from
- 2:25Speaker 1: Terry Joseph and advanced Joseph, who's of course the defensive
- 2:28Speaker 1: coordinator in the NFL right now. There are a long
- 2:33Speaker 1: line of great athletes and football players and coaches from
- 2:38Speaker 1: that lineage. Well, apparently, Ian Rappaport reported that the Saints
- 2:46Speaker 1: wanted a defensive coach with college experience, and so they
- 2:51Speaker 1: went and got Terry Joseph from Texas. The interesting part
- 2:55Speaker 1: of this is, like, there's no connection at all, like
- 3:01Speaker 1: wanting a college coach. Okay, if that's what Kellamore wanted
- 3:05Speaker 1: for whatever reason, okay, but there's no apparent shared experience
- 3:14Speaker 1: with anybody on this current staff. So Terry Joseph is
- 3:18Speaker 1: a New Orleans native, went to Shaw. He's coached all
- 3:23Speaker 1: over the college ranks after his playing career and the
- 3:26Speaker 1: action played collegiate baseball at Northwestern State and played minor
- 3:29Speaker 1: league ball for a handful of years baseball before becoming
- 3:32Speaker 1: a football coach. He coached football at Shaw and then
- 3:34Speaker 1: jumped into the college ranks. He was actually his first
- 3:36Speaker 1: college job. He was a GA at LSU under less
- 3:39Speaker 1: than two thousand and six. That was Terry Joseph's first
- 3:42Speaker 1: taste of college football, and then he just started, you know,
- 3:45Speaker 1: Louisiana Tech, Tennessee, Nebraska, Texas A and M North Carolina,
- 3:49Speaker 1: Notre Dame. He's been all over college football, and since
- 3:52Speaker 1: twenty twenty one he's been at Texas. So the last
- 3:55Speaker 1: five seasons, Terry Joseph has been a defensive backs coach
- 3:59Speaker 1: at the Diversity of Texas. He's a New Orleans native.
- 4:02Speaker 1: He's got no NFL experience, and there's no shared experience
- 4:06Speaker 1: on this staff. He's never coached with or against Kellen Moore,
- 4:11Speaker 1: never coached with Brandon Staley on the defensive staff. The
- 4:13Speaker 1: closest that they got Terry Joseph in twenty eleven was
- 4:20Speaker 1: a coach at Tennessee. The following year, Staley was an
- 4:26Speaker 1: assistant coach for one year at Tennessee. So they missed
- 4:29Speaker 1: each other by a year. So Joseph left after eleven,
- 4:34Speaker 1: Staley came in in twelve in Knoxville. Like that's the
- 4:37Speaker 1: closest that these ships ever were to passing each other.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Maybe the timing is interesting. Joseph is fifty one years old.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I think obviously it's an opportunity to come coach the
- 4:50Speaker 1: NFL team in his hometown. Maybe he's looking at Texas
- 4:54Speaker 1: going perhaps this is where Texas takes a little bit
- 4:56Speaker 1: of a step back. After the college football playoff team
- 5:00Speaker 1: this past season. They're losing a ton of that talent,
- 5:03Speaker 1: including Quin youwers. Of course you got Arch, but you're
- 5:05Speaker 1: losing a lot of guys from that Texas team. They're
- 5:09Speaker 1: the returning production numbers over at ESPN, the SP plus
- 5:13Speaker 1: returning production numbers came out today on Monday, and Texas
- 5:17Speaker 1: is in the triple digits. They're like one hundred and
- 5:19Speaker 1: tenth or something like that in the country, and returning
- 5:20Speaker 1: production probably an opportunity to make more money as well.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Terry Joseph at Texas, his salary this past season was
- 5:27Speaker 1: eight hundred and twenty five K. He's coming to New
- 5:29Speaker 1: Orleans as the defensive pass game coordinator. Because he'll have
- 5:32Speaker 1: coordinator on his title, he'll very likely make more money.
- 5:36Speaker 1: So coach in the NFL, coach in your hometown, make
- 5:39Speaker 1: more money. All of that checks boxes, right, There's all
- 5:43Speaker 1: those reasons why Terry Joseph would take the job. It's
- 5:45Speaker 1: just interesting why and how Kellen Moore identify Terry Joseph
- 5:49Speaker 1: would say that's the guy I wanted my staff. But
- 5:52Speaker 1: this is an interesting time to come to New Orleans
- 5:55Speaker 1: as well because in that position group, in that secondary,
- 6:00Speaker 1: it feels like this is going to be a formative
- 6:02Speaker 1: type year where you've got young guys a Lante Taylor
- 6:06Speaker 1: and kool Aid McKinstry trying to elevate themselves. You've got
- 6:11Speaker 1: paulse In a deebo who's a free agent but coming
- 6:13Speaker 1: off an injury where I think we're all hoping the
- 6:16Speaker 1: Saints are able to resign Pulse in a debo, but
- 6:18Speaker 1: that doesn't seem like a certainty at this point. At safety,
- 6:22Speaker 1: Tyron Matthew is nearing the end of his career and
- 6:25Speaker 1: you desperately need help at the other safety spot. So
- 6:30Speaker 1: there's maybe some clay there to be molded in that
- 6:34Speaker 1: secondary by Terry Joseph, which is why this could be
- 6:36Speaker 1: an interesting time. Some young players, some turnover, new coach,
- 6:42Speaker 1: new system, a little bit of a maybe some autonomy
- 6:47Speaker 1: in the defensive secondary, coming home, probably making a little
- 6:49Speaker 1: bit more money. A lot of that seems like it
- 6:52Speaker 1: could make sense for Terry Joseph at this time. But
- 6:54Speaker 1: an interesting hire, to say the very least, one that's
- 6:57Speaker 1: very much off the radar because there are no lines
- 7:00Speaker 1: pointing to either Staley or Kellen Moore throughout his coaching lineage.
- 7:04Speaker 1: But Terry Joseph, New Orleans Football Royalty, the Joseph Family,
- 7:09Speaker 1: Terry Joseph coming to New Orleans coach the Saints as
- 7:11Speaker 1: the defensive pass game coordinated, the latest addition to Kellen
- 7:14Speaker 1: moore staff
