- 0:24Speaker 1: We haven't done this in forever we're back sort of
- 0:27Speaker 1: and we have to tell people that we're back and
- 0:29Speaker 1: we're we're gonna threaten them with movies We haven't done
- 0:33Speaker 1: that in a long time.
- 0:33Speaker 2: That's true.
- 0:34Speaker 3: I know.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I forgot how to do it.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I forgot how to watch movies. I have gotten out
- 0:41Speaker 1: of practice lately. This time around, we're doing a movie
- 0:45Speaker 1: that's got a girl's name in it. It starts with
- 0:48Speaker 1: an A. So while I was looking through this other
- 0:51Speaker 1: garbage I'd seen recently, I was like, how about Anna?
- 0:55Speaker 1: Or Ann. I think it's just E. A-N-N-E is how
- 1:00Speaker 1: she's spelling it. And, um, yeah. Here's the plot, according
- 1:05Speaker 1: to the back of this box. A mentally ill woman
- 1:09Speaker 1: with a severe personality disorder develops a strange relationship with
- 1:13Speaker 1: her dolls as she grows further apart from her son
- 1:17Speaker 1: and family, and sickness rapidly advances. She becomes a victim
- 1:22Speaker 1: to insomnia and even self-mutilation, leaving her son to uncover
- 1:26Speaker 1: that strange truth behind Anne's illness.
- 1:30Speaker 2: That's fun.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Is that a movie we want to watch or the
- 1:33Speaker 4: one we were supposed to watch?
- 1:35Speaker 1: Well, that's the thing that also worked a doll in.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I was like, this does have some tie-ins here. It's
- 1:40Speaker 1: a girl's name. It's got a doll involved. So, yeah,
- 1:42Speaker 1: I mean, you know.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Okay, I was confused.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Did this come out before or after Annabelle?
- 1:46Speaker 1: It's 2018, I think. I put the year down in
- 1:50Speaker 1: case we had this question. So, I believe it is 2018.
- 1:57Speaker 1: And I read the cast list and I don't know
- 1:59Speaker 1: a one of them. That's promising, I'm sure. So we
- 2:04Speaker 1: could end up watching that if somebody doesn't give us
- 2:07Speaker 1: a better option. But, you know, you guys, you're listening
- 2:11Speaker 1: right now. You can think of many movies that are
- 2:14Speaker 1: better than that, right?
- 2:17Speaker 4: Or even worse, if you want to watch us squirm.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Yeah, we have. We have. So, if you want to
- 2:25Speaker 1: give us either of those options, go to movieoutdown.com, click
- 2:29Speaker 1: on the Patreon link, and sign us a movie. If
- 2:32Speaker 1: you sign up at any level, you can put a
- 2:34Speaker 1: movie on the list, and then at some point we
- 2:37Speaker 1: will get to it and watch it. Be thrilled?
- 2:44Speaker 2: We'll have stuff to say.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. But, yep, otherwise we'll say a lot of
- 2:51Speaker 1: crazy things like we did this previous time. A lot
- 2:55Speaker 1: of nuns in that movie, though. There's a lot of
- 2:58Speaker 1: nun movies. Two things in movies.
- 2:59Speaker 4: That frighten me more than anything else. Spooky kids and nuns.
- 3:03Speaker 1: And they keep making both of those movies.
- 3:04Speaker 4: Well, there were both of them in this movie.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Are there giant ants involved?
- 3:09Speaker 3: No.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Damn it. Not interested. It's all downhill from here, then.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:15Speaker 4: I counted at least six buildings that would qualify for
- 3:20Speaker 4: Scooby-Doo-esque hauntings.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Yeah, there was one right in view. And most of
- 3:24Speaker 1: the time we were sitting at the table, we were like,
- 3:26Speaker 1: there's got to be something spooky going on in there.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Yeah, but we didn't want to go check it out
- 3:31Speaker 4: because we don't want to be rude and leave your wedding.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And then the next thing we know, we see... It's
- 3:36Speaker 1: a little more Lon Chaney makeup on him. Or occasionally
- 3:40Speaker 1: you're a Pekingese, you know, whichever.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Right.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Like so much of this movie is not a whodunit
- 3:47Speaker 1: because we, in our minds, think we know exactly who
- 3:51Speaker 1: did it. It sets it up with not only the
- 3:53Speaker 1: brutal murder of a child right at the beginning. A
- 3:56Speaker 1: very brutal murder. But then also. You don't see that.
- 3:59Speaker 4: On screen at all.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:01Speaker 1: That's why I was like, that first time I watched it,
- 4:03Speaker 1: I was like, whoa. In the 50s.
- 4:05Speaker 4: You said that in a very weird way.
- 4:07Speaker 2: When it's like.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Phillip has a new nickname at least. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Because it has.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Well, it has.
- 4:14Speaker 4: On the place card, which I kept, it has my name.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I have mine. And then underneath it, it had.
- 4:21Speaker 1: As long as Dick Miller shows up, I'm fine. Yeah.
- 4:25Speaker 1: That's the biggest surprise. Do you know anything about the
- 4:28Speaker 1: actress that plays the sister? The older sister?
- 4:31Speaker 3: I looked her up because she's really... She's very interesting
- 4:35Speaker 3: looking in her own way. And just the way she
- 4:38Speaker 3: kind of carried herself was weird.
- 4:40Speaker 2: But yeah, I saw.
- 4:42Speaker 1: And she tried to kill us because she said it
- 4:47Speaker 1: off in the woods. Oh, yeah. As we're coming back,
- 4:49Speaker 1: it's dark. It's woodsy. Off in the corner, I'm like,
- 4:53Speaker 1: is that a guy in a hockey mask?
- 4:54Speaker 2: It could be.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I think she was trying to get us killed.
- 4:57Speaker 2: I'm just saying. Because so many of the settings were....
- 5:02Speaker 3: Very memorable like the warehouses and even their apartment buildings
- 5:07Speaker 3: in the like priest house you're just there's a lot
- 5:09Speaker 3: of hallways there's a lot of stairs it's very like
- 5:12Speaker 3: they're these big houses but it's very cramped and like narrow.
- 5:16Speaker 1: They spend so much time like not going into what's
- 5:23Speaker 1: going on because it's it's vampires i mean from the
- 5:27Speaker 1: cover of the box if you're in your video store
- 5:30Speaker 1: you're like oh vampires So like, you know, it's not,
- 5:33Speaker 1: they're not hiding it in the way that they're presenting
- 5:35Speaker 1: the movie, but in the way they're showing it to
- 5:37Speaker 1: you on screen, it's like, nobody got that memo. So forever,
- 5:41Speaker 1: it's like, you kind of know this guy gets sucked
- 5:43Speaker 1: into this little group of vampires. And then it's like,
- 5:47Speaker 1: they won't just tell him, like, just tell him the rules.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Like we know, like we've seen vampire movies.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Just, you know, for the sake of honesty, I decided
- 5:57Speaker 4: to light one outside. And as I, you know, let,
- 6:01Speaker 4: ran it down the striking pad, the head of it
- 6:03Speaker 4: broke off, and flew into one of the bushes in
- 6:06Speaker 4: front of my apartment building. Now, I stuck around to
- 6:12Speaker 4: make sure it didn't burst into flames.
- 6:14Speaker 1: That's not how I did it when this happened to me,
- 6:16Speaker 1: but I was just like, I'm out of here. So
- 6:20Speaker 1: he'd always be like, I want to shoot it like this.
- 6:22Speaker 1: And they'd be like, no, you can't do that. We've
- 6:24Speaker 1: got to put the camera here. And he's like, that guy.
- 6:28Speaker 1: This was his thing. This is how he's like, every
- 6:31Speaker 1: time he told this story, he's like, so this is
- 6:33Speaker 1: what he did. He would dress up like a priest
- 6:36Speaker 1: and go and hang out at... Interesting.
- 6:40Speaker 2: That is very interesting. Because there's so much Catholics.
- 6:45Speaker 1: It's very Catholic. Oh, it's very Catholic. It's very Catholic.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Yeah. I knew there had to be something. I knew
- 6:52Speaker 2: he had to have something.
- 6:52Speaker 1: One, he wanted to.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Why is everyone in this movie so weird?
- 6:59Speaker 2: Like every single character has something weird going on. They
- 7:02Speaker 2: really are. And I think a lot of it was
- 7:04Speaker 2: just who they were as people.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Harry has problems with performing in bed and goes to
- 7:10Speaker 4: see a doctor.
- 7:11Speaker 1: The doctor sends him to a guru. None of these
- 7:14Speaker 1: things should have worked the way that they did. No.
- 7:18Speaker 2: And that scene where they're in the hospital and they're
- 7:20Speaker 2: just screaming at each other.
- 7:22Speaker 1: That was insane.
- 7:23Speaker 2: There are other people in the room. Because she's just
- 7:25Speaker 2: looking off.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Like, she won't even look at her anymore. She's just
- 7:29Speaker 1: staring in the space crying. And her sister's screaming at her.
- 7:35Speaker 1: And that poor woman sitting over there trying to eat Jell-O.
- 7:37Speaker 1: I know.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Shit, I should have paid for the private room. I'm
- 7:41Speaker 2: trying to take a nap. Like, can you take this
- 7:43Speaker 2: out in the hallway?
- 7:44Speaker 1: Just didn't have an extra $ 45 to bump myself up
- 7:47Speaker 1: to the private room. Like, no budget. And like, he's
- 7:52Speaker 1: just like, well, I don't care. I want to put
- 7:55Speaker 1: in rain scenes. Like, that's part of what I'm making
- 7:57Speaker 1: out of this whole little world. And yeah, so they
- 8:00Speaker 1: don't have rain machines. They're poor. You know what they did?
- 8:05Speaker 1: And I think it was the last day they were
- 8:07Speaker 1: shooting in that chapel. And she walks out with a knife.
- 8:12Speaker 1: She's one of those that, like, her whole life was
- 8:15Speaker 1: a story.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Oh, I know.
- 8:17Speaker 1: He's just like, he said, like, at one point she's like,
- 8:21Speaker 1: I've gained and lost fortunes at least seven times.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Wow.
- 8:26Speaker 1: That, like, she'd been a movie star. She made a fortune. Yeah,
- 8:30Speaker 1: that was her in the 30s.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Oh.
- 8:31Speaker 1: And then, yeah, it's like she made a fortune. And then, like, again,
- 8:37Speaker 1: she was at some point an alcoholic, lost it all
- 8:39Speaker 1: to drinking. At some point probably married some dude, stole
- 8:42Speaker 1: all her money. Like every decade a new thing would
- 8:45Speaker 1: come along and wipe her out. And she just kept performing.
- 8:49Speaker 1: So maybe she's not of this earth.
- 8:53Speaker 2: She kind of seems a little alien.
- 8:56Speaker 1: She could have disappeared into another dimension of some sort.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Yeah. It was just interesting.
- 9:01Speaker 3: I was like, what are we saying about religion here?
- 9:04Speaker 3: Are we saying that it's bad inherently or are we
- 9:07Speaker 3: condemning the people who use it to do bad things?
- 9:10Speaker 1: I don't know. I do know his feelings.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Okay, what are his feelings?
- 9:15Speaker 1: So here's the thing.
- 9:16Speaker 2: I mean, we thought it was going to be really bad.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I enjoyed it.
- 9:21Speaker 4: I enjoyed it. I was creeped out the whole time.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Just go to MovieMeltdown.com, join the Meltdown Horror Club, and
- 9:30Speaker 1: give us something good to watch.
- 9:33Speaker 4: Or if you hate us, give us something terrible to watch.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Either way, we're going to watch it.
- 9:37Speaker 4: We have nothing else to do.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Music
