- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to this episode of the Daily Reiner Podcast.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: One of the most critical truths of living in the modern world is that we're all connected.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: As the poet John Dunn once wrote, no man is an island, neither is any woman, of course.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: And because you're the type of writer who wants to be generous and you're the kind of writer who wants to give more than you take, you will want to discover ways to support the important work of other writers.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: After all, the world needs more great writers, and you also want to continue expanding your relationships.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: So here are a few ways to accomplish both of those things at the same time.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Number one, write personal messages to authors whose books that you enjoy.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: You can find email addresses, social media accounts, or at the very least, website contact forms for basically any author in the world.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: So let those people know how their book impacted you and why you loved it, and honestly, it will mean the world to them.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Number two, engage with their non-book content.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Most authors have email lists and social media accounts, and many also have their own podcasts or video channels.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: So make sure that you like, share, comment, subscribe, and support the material that those writers are creating.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Number three, buy their books, share them on social media, and give copies away to your friends.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: When you do that, you not only support those authors' livelihood, you also become your friend's favorite person by giving them unexpected gifts.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Number four, write book reviews.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: After you post a review on an online retailer site, take a screenshot of that and post it on social media and make sure to tag the author of the book.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Reviews honestly are the lifeblood of an author's business.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: And if you want others to leave book reviews for you, you've got to do the same thing for other people.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Then finally, number five, share quotes from those books.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: You can do this via social media, email, podcast, or other means, but it's really just a simple way to spread a book's message in a short, digestible way.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Now, these are five things, and there's tons of other ways to support writers as well, but these five simple things will really go a long way toward helping your connections with those writers, but also getting the message out about those books that you really love and enjoy.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: And none of these things honestly are that complicated.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: If you just take five or ten minutes a day to do one or two of these, it makes a huge difference for the authors that you support, and it also grows your own network and influence as well.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Here's today's question: who are three authors you could support with these strategies in the next 24 hours?
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: If you've been listening to this show for any length of time, you know that one of the four practices of a great writer is creativity.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: And in order to stay creative, you've got to have great input.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: And that's where writing prompts come in.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: A writing prompt is a sentence or two that helps you break through creative blocks, brainstorm new ideas, and get back into a state of flow.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Writing prompts are an awesome creative tool for journaling, storytelling, creative writing, stress relief, social media posts, and so much more.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: But the great news is that you don't have to create these yourself.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: We've put together an amazing package of 365 daily writing prompts.
