- 0:02Speaker 1: Hey, we've got our buddy Ryan Roland Smith joining us
- 0:04Speaker 1: right now. Mariners TV Analysts, top Set podcast, great accent,
- 0:09Speaker 1: just the whole thing working for him and he's covering
- 0:11Speaker 1: one of the best teams in baseball right now.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Ryan, Great to have you on here. Yeah, and the
- 0:15Speaker 2: head I'm ready to go to a game here in Baltimore.
- 0:20Speaker 2: He had no. I it's Look, it's been fun, man,
- 0:22Speaker 2: since the since the trade Deadline'm not gonna lie a
- 0:25Speaker 2: completely different feel with this team because this is really Look,
- 0:28Speaker 2: they've been really aggressive every trade deadline the last couple
- 0:31Speaker 2: of years, but this is the first time where it's
- 0:33Speaker 2: like there's no like justification or explaining the move, right,
- 0:38Speaker 2: It's basically like, Yep, you wanted the offense. You're banging
- 0:40Speaker 2: that dramall off season and into the season. You want
- 0:43Speaker 2: that extra piece, extra pieces offensively, and they got it.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Here it is and there's no like yep, twenty twenty
- 0:49Speaker 2: five and that's it as opposed to, you know, trying
- 0:52Speaker 2: to work around the edges or add this because it's
- 0:54Speaker 2: a future move or we're trying to have controllable players
- 0:57Speaker 2: or whatever it is. And then everyone's fired up. Man,
- 0:59Speaker 2: they try stand that took nine to ten. You know,
- 1:02Speaker 2: they had the Etro weekend. It was just it's just
- 1:06Speaker 2: a really good thing happening right now in Seattle, that's
- 1:08Speaker 2: for sure.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Did it need to be at the trade deadline? Did
- 1:11Speaker 3: it need to be a move that was like, hey,
- 1:14Speaker 3: we're you know, as a front office, we're looking at
- 1:16Speaker 3: it like I don't know ownership, I don't know how
- 1:18Speaker 3: good this team really is. Is Julio really good? We'll
- 1:22Speaker 3: wait and see till the trade deadline. Because Suarez wasn't available,
- 1:27Speaker 3: Josh Naylor was available, you could have gotten another third
- 1:30Speaker 3: base back to come in and play that position all year.
- 1:35Speaker 3: They might not be tied right now, they may be
- 1:37Speaker 3: up on the Astros.
- 1:38Speaker 2: You're talking gone back into the off season right in
- 1:41Speaker 2: regards to making those music, Well, put it this way, man,
- 1:44Speaker 2: like the Marylands. You know, as we know free agents, Man,
- 1:48Speaker 2: it's competitive. It's sometimes it's more than just dollars and
- 1:51Speaker 2: cents to bring some of these guys in there. There's
- 1:53Speaker 2: more the guys into it, as you guys know, and
- 1:55Speaker 2: you go do a little bit of recruiting as well.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I feel like they're big draw card is where the
- 2:02Speaker 2: players where you get it via trade. And I feel
- 2:05Speaker 2: like coming out of twenty twenty four, their biggest chip
- 2:10Speaker 2: was going to be pitching, whether it was in the
- 2:12Speaker 2: minor leagues, anda a Triple A, or even in the
- 2:14Speaker 2: big leagues, dismantling that five man rotation, and they just
- 2:17Speaker 2: weren't willing to do that. They just period weren't willing
- 2:19Speaker 2: to do that. So that move really wasn't out there,
- 2:23Speaker 2: I feel like in the off season, and I feel
- 2:26Speaker 2: like because they weren't, like I said, willing to give
- 2:29Speaker 2: up their biggest strength. And then they get into a
- 2:32Speaker 2: season they kind of play, see how we go a
- 2:34Speaker 2: little bit. They were slipping behind the Astros, who, by
- 2:36Speaker 2: the way, were not very good at these last you know,
- 2:39Speaker 2: a couple of months in regards to how they were built.
- 2:41Speaker 2: They'll winning. I don't even know how they were winning,
- 2:43Speaker 2: to be honest with there, with all these injuries and
- 2:44Speaker 2: everything else. But you're looking at this going, man, well
- 2:46Speaker 2: how good are we? If the Astros are able to
- 2:48Speaker 2: get this lead in the West and we can't keep
- 2:50Speaker 2: up with them, you kind of ask yourself, well, how
- 2:53Speaker 2: good is this team? And so I feel like it
- 2:55Speaker 2: got to that place, and you know, we know cow
- 2:57Speaker 2: role the last couple of years has been vocal about it,
- 3:00Speaker 2: and they've gotten to a place now where it's like,
- 3:02Speaker 2: we've got five all stars on this team. We've got
- 3:05Speaker 2: a cow ruler who's having a historic year knocking over
- 3:08Speaker 2: like Johnny Bench and you know, heading towards Mickey Manlin
- 3:12Speaker 2: regards to home runs for a switch hitter, it's insane.
- 3:15Speaker 2: So this is the time is now, and it got
- 3:17Speaker 2: to a place where it was a month after month
- 3:18Speaker 2: is saying this team has something here, there's a good
- 3:22Speaker 2: young core of players you need to add, and it
- 3:24Speaker 2: took up into the deadline. Put it this way too, man,
- 3:26Speaker 2: I'm going to give a ton of credit to Justin
- 3:28Speaker 2: Hollander because look they made the move with Josh Naylor
- 3:33Speaker 2: and you look at that and fans like, yeah, great,
- 3:35Speaker 2: we added and we added a player finally who's just
- 3:38Speaker 2: pure rental for twenty twenty five. But you're look at
- 3:40Speaker 2: that gun hold On. He's on the same team as
- 3:42Speaker 2: Juno Squires. What happened to that? We love Gino, like,
- 3:44Speaker 2: how come we couldn't pull that off? And Justin Hollander
- 3:47Speaker 2: that door wasn't closed. He just kept calling, calling, calling,
- 3:51Speaker 2: And by the way, on the on the bullpen side
- 3:53Speaker 2: as well. I think I a little disappointed they didn't
- 3:56Speaker 2: get another bullpen piece because I pushed so hard to
- 3:58Speaker 2: get that second guy in that ballp and a bridge
- 4:01Speaker 2: that gap to Brash and Munnos, but I got to
- 4:03Speaker 2: give it to him, and they just kept pushing, pushing.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I think that doing the deal with Josh Naylor a
- 4:08Speaker 2: little earlier, you developed that relationship where the DBAC say, yep,
- 4:12Speaker 2: we're happy with what we got. Thank you. You're happy
- 4:15Speaker 2: with what you got, all right, let's keep that door open.
- 4:17Speaker 2: And then I feel like the value for Gino just
- 4:19Speaker 2: kind of kept sort of slipping a little bit because
- 4:22Speaker 2: there's other options out there. And then they struck Man
- 4:24Speaker 2: and by the way, they didn't give up any of
- 4:25Speaker 2: their top one hundred prospects, so a plus at the
- 4:28Speaker 2: trade deadline. And to answer your question short in the winner,
- 4:33Speaker 2: I think if you were the goal was to go
- 4:35Speaker 2: get offense, you're probably gonna have to give up your
- 4:37Speaker 2: you know, your your biggest attribute, and that's pitching. I
- 4:40Speaker 2: just don't think that willing to do that. I'm kind
- 4:41Speaker 2: of glad they didn't do that, honestly, you know, until
- 4:44Speaker 2: until this point. But why this year? Why not last year?
- 4:48Speaker 2: Why this year?
- 4:49Speaker 4: Is it just because of the cow rawle of the
- 4:50Speaker 4: year and what they look around at the West and
- 4:52Speaker 4: say the West is vulnerable this year. You kind of
- 4:55Speaker 4: you kind of glossed over a little bit, But is
- 4:57Speaker 4: that the main reason? Because Houston's banged up beyond unbelief? Right,
- 5:00Speaker 4: they're not, They're not the same Houston. Regman's gone, All
- 5:03Speaker 4: these guys are gone. Then you look at the Rangers,
- 5:06Speaker 4: they're not playing very well. The Angels are the Angels clearly?
- 5:09Speaker 4: Is this is why finally Depoto in the front office
- 5:11Speaker 4: was told, hey, you can do this this year, and
- 5:14Speaker 4: it's awesome. They didn't give up their top prospects.
- 5:16Speaker 2: It's yeah, that's the way.
- 5:17Speaker 4: It's supposed to work. But you know, in years past
- 5:19Speaker 4: they've had the ability and they've had a you know,
- 5:22Speaker 4: a luxury of the starting pitching. But why in twenty
- 5:24Speaker 4: five is it because the West is just not as
- 5:26Speaker 4: good as it used to be?
- 5:27Speaker 2: I think so, I really did, man. I think it's
- 5:30Speaker 2: you know, gone back to last year again, twenty twenty four.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Gone back to that pitching, right, That's what kind of
- 5:36Speaker 2: that's what got them close. And whether or not there
- 5:39Speaker 2: was a move last year. Look that was still aggressive
- 5:41Speaker 2: and they still went and got you know, Justin Turner
- 5:44Speaker 2: and Randy rose Arena. I mean, they still got some offense.
- 5:47Speaker 2: They still got you know, Jimmy Garcia in the bullpen
- 5:49Speaker 2: as well, and they again weren't they didn't need to
- 5:53Speaker 2: give up a whole lot to get them, and so
- 5:55Speaker 2: they still were aggresive last year. Ye pride of that
- 5:57Speaker 2: they went and got Luis Castille, who was the biggest
- 5:59Speaker 2: piece out there, and they added to that starting pitching
- 6:02Speaker 2: wasn't as good as last year in twenty twenty three
- 6:06Speaker 2: to go get Luis Cassid to fill that void. And
- 6:09Speaker 2: that's kind of what the That was their anchor, that
- 6:11Speaker 2: was their you know called their aircraft carrier. That was
- 6:13Speaker 2: what it was going to take him to that next level.
- 6:15Speaker 2: So going into twenty twenty five and you guys know, man,
- 6:18Speaker 2: it's so tough to replicate what they got out of
- 6:20Speaker 2: their starting pitching last year. And that's kind of been obvious, right,
- 6:24Speaker 2: Bryce Miller goes down, he struggled. You had a situation
- 6:28Speaker 2: where George Kruby didn't start the year he was on
- 6:30Speaker 2: the IL. You had you know, Logan Gilbert missed seven
- 6:34Speaker 2: weeks as well, so you're not going to replicate what
- 6:36Speaker 2: they had in twenty twenty four. But I feel like
- 6:37Speaker 2: they went into this season saying, all right, yeah, we
- 6:40Speaker 2: might be limited in what we can do in regards
- 6:42Speaker 2: to going and getting paying money for free agent, but
- 6:46Speaker 2: we do have their capacity to make a trade at
- 6:49Speaker 2: some point, and the time was right. Man. They got
- 6:51Speaker 2: to a place as a group, as a team and
- 6:54Speaker 2: as a front office to say, all right, we're really good,
- 6:57Speaker 2: yet we know what we need. We're going to be
- 7:00Speaker 2: aggressive like they with last year and the year pride
- 7:02Speaker 2: of that, and let's go and get a move that
- 7:06Speaker 2: services twenty twenty five only really for the first time
- 7:09Speaker 2: the last couple of years. So again, the aggression has
- 7:12Speaker 2: always been there, but this year it just feels different
- 7:15Speaker 2: because it's straight up not the situation where it's like
- 7:17Speaker 2: we have controllable players or we can do this and
- 7:19Speaker 2: that and no, no, they just went all in on
- 7:21Speaker 2: pure rentals. We just haven't seen that the last couple
- 7:24Speaker 2: of years.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Kratz tell everyone why they need to look into a

- 8:26Speaker 3: All right, let's move ahead to the rest of the season. Now,
- 8:28Speaker 3: Henyo Suarez has got like a three thirty ops since
- 8:32Speaker 3: he's come over, and the nailer's got one thousand ops.
- 8:36Speaker 3: How do you see, because you see this team day
- 8:39Speaker 3: in and day out, how do you see pitchers navigating
- 8:43Speaker 3: the lineup differently with those two guys in especially even
- 8:46Speaker 3: because people will be like, oh, Suarez trade soft, like
- 8:49Speaker 3: he's not doing to me. You add a guy like
- 8:51Speaker 3: Suarez who will get hot at some point and carry
- 8:55Speaker 3: the team, but he's there all the time looming. Do
- 8:58Speaker 3: you see a difference in how teams are pitching and
- 9:02Speaker 3: navigating How he got a throw to a certain guy
- 9:05Speaker 3: that's feasting during this time.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Yeah. The biggest shakeup, which was interesting coming out of
- 9:11Speaker 2: that deadline was you had you know, JP Croft was
- 9:14Speaker 2: at the top line. By the way, he's quietly having
- 9:16Speaker 2: a really good year and he was at the top
- 9:19Speaker 2: of line. As a matter of fact, I was kind
- 9:20Speaker 2: of hoping he was gonna make the All Star team.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Didn't happen. He's having an awesome year, but man, he
- 9:25Speaker 2: was struggling going into that trade deadline. He was struggling.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Then they get obviously Naylor, and then they get a Gina.
- 9:31Speaker 2: They come out of August first, you got to figure
- 9:32Speaker 2: out how you kind of put this line up together.
- 9:34Speaker 2: You put Randy at the top, Randy Rose Arena, who's having,
- 9:37Speaker 2: by the way, best power year as well, and plus
- 9:39Speaker 2: he's swiping a bunch of bags too. I think he's
- 9:41Speaker 2: already you know, beating his career best in stolen bases,
- 9:46Speaker 2: and so you look at that and say, all right,
- 9:47Speaker 2: you've got the first one through. I'll throw Polanco in
- 9:50Speaker 2: there as well, because he's back to what he was
- 9:52Speaker 2: doing in April one through six. Man, it's a gauntlet.
- 9:54Speaker 2: It's tough because you look at that, there's no breathing room, right.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Kl is still getting pitches to hit, which I thought
- 9:59Speaker 2: after that home run derby, after that All Star break,
- 10:01Speaker 2: all right, they're gonna have to, you know, be a
- 10:03Speaker 2: little bit more careful with him. But he's still getting
- 10:05Speaker 2: pitches to hit, and he's starting to figure out that
- 10:07Speaker 2: swing as well. Three home runs in the last four games.
- 10:10Speaker 2: And then you've got right behind him Julio all of
- 10:12Speaker 2: a sudden, you know, August and September said it's a gaunt.
- 10:15Speaker 2: But now the biggest question was when you saw JP
- 10:17Speaker 2: go from the leadoff spot and you guys know, man,
- 10:20Speaker 2: like you see a guy lose his leadoff spot and
- 10:22Speaker 2: he goes he shuffles down to seventh. All right, how's
- 10:24Speaker 2: he going to react? Like, how's he gonna you know,
- 10:26Speaker 2: around the around the cage or in the dugout? Wherever
- 10:29Speaker 2: is he going to be that guy. But now that's
- 10:30Speaker 2: that's just not his style. Man. He's kind of come
- 10:32Speaker 2: in and basically said, so excited for what we've got.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Randyo Roserena wasn't upset about leaving the four spot behind
- 10:39Speaker 2: cal get more pitches. He's going to have to liadoff spot.
- 10:41Speaker 2: So everyone's pretty fired up about what they have in
- 10:44Speaker 2: this in this lineup. Now, you mentioned Gino hasn't quite
- 10:46Speaker 2: gotten hot just yet, but it's just a tough line
- 10:49Speaker 2: up to navigate, and the only breathing room you look
- 10:51Speaker 2: at and say, all right, you've got three left, he's seven,
- 10:53Speaker 2: eight nine, and see you're like, oh, they're going to
- 10:55Speaker 2: get matched up. But the problem is JP hits left.
- 10:57Speaker 2: He's pretty well and by the way, pitches per played
- 11:00Speaker 2: appearance is insane. So you've got seven to eight and
- 11:02Speaker 2: nine all of a sudden since the trade deadline, seeing
- 11:05Speaker 2: about four and a half pitches per plate appearance on
- 11:08Speaker 2: basis over four hundred and flipping that lineup back over.
- 11:11Speaker 2: So there's really no breathing room. Now. I know they
- 11:13Speaker 2: only put up a one run yesterday, but going back
- 11:16Speaker 2: to that homestand in Seattle, it was, man, it was relentless.
- 11:20Speaker 2: You could just have that feeling, and we just haven't
- 11:21Speaker 2: had that in Seattle. You've always had those pockets where
- 11:25Speaker 2: it's like, oh man, so it's coming up with two
- 11:27Speaker 2: outs and you know there's run around second. You just
- 11:29Speaker 2: feel like there's just gonna be that swing and miss.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Especially last year, it's just not the case. Right now.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I see August first and everyone can feel it. Man,
- 11:35Speaker 2: it's a lot of fun to watch.
- 11:38Speaker 4: Hey, you brought up Julio Rodriguez and he was a
- 11:41Speaker 4: controversial All Star pick because of where he's at. His
- 11:43Speaker 4: numbers are good. Now what changed though? What He's done
- 11:46Speaker 4: this for a couple of years. Now, wait where April
- 11:49Speaker 4: May even in the June, it's really kind of a
- 11:51Speaker 4: struggle and in July, August, September, come what what is
- 11:54Speaker 4: the difference in second half Julio and first half Julio.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Yeah, so going back to you know, last year, I
- 12:02Speaker 2: haven't had that big of a sample size. Really, It's
- 12:05Speaker 2: not like he's done it for six years. It's been like,
- 12:07Speaker 2: you know a couple of years there where he went
- 12:09Speaker 2: off as a rookie, expectations through the roof, and then
- 12:13Speaker 2: you know, going back to last year, right, last year,
- 12:15Speaker 2: he was just trying to reinvent the wheel. The guy
- 12:18Speaker 2: was like he was trying to have more plate discipline,
- 12:22Speaker 2: but he was he was getting he was kind of
- 12:23Speaker 2: taking away that aggressiveness on that first pitch. He just
- 12:27Speaker 2: wasn't I'm not saying the Mariners didn't allow him to
- 12:30Speaker 2: be an athlete, but I feel like with him, he
- 12:31Speaker 2: was just trying to He's trying to be you know,
- 12:34Speaker 2: super pro at bat and all of a sudden wear
- 12:36Speaker 2: a pitcher down or something. It's like they just go
- 12:38Speaker 2: and swing man, see the ball, hit the ball, just
- 12:40Speaker 2: rip it. And then this year it was kind of
- 12:42Speaker 2: this situation. I feel like where he hits everything, he
- 12:46Speaker 2: incides out to everything to right field and it's ridiculous. Man,
- 12:50Speaker 2: Like all comes off his bat just different to everyone else.
- 12:53Speaker 2: It just does. That's why all those ground balls can
- 12:54Speaker 2: just kind of shoot her. It's like he's playing on
- 12:56Speaker 2: a little league field. And then the big conversation was,
- 12:59Speaker 2: look in order to get the ball in the air
- 13:01Speaker 2: with some authority and get some power, some more of
- 13:04Speaker 2: the power numbers, because that was lacking. It's been lacking.
- 13:06Speaker 2: The first half. It's like he's so you know, undercooked
- 13:09Speaker 2: in regards to some of the power numbers, you know,
- 13:13Speaker 2: get the ball in the end of the pull side,
- 13:15Speaker 2: and I feel like he was trying to do that.
- 13:16Speaker 2: He was getting a little bit beaten inside. And then
- 13:19Speaker 2: right before the All Star break, it's like something click. Man,
- 13:22Speaker 2: he all of a sudden was able to get that
- 13:24Speaker 2: bad head out and he was launching balls in the
- 13:25Speaker 2: left field. Wasn't the ball in the ground, like when
- 13:27Speaker 2: you look at the ground ball rate to the left
- 13:29Speaker 2: side of the infields through the roof, but the exit
- 13:31Speaker 2: you is still good. I see he's still getting good contact,
- 13:35Speaker 2: but you just can't lift the ball. And then all
- 13:37Speaker 2: of a sudden, right before the break, I want to say,
- 13:39Speaker 2: I'm trying to remember who he took deep. I was
- 13:41Speaker 2: watching he got that spin, little spinn and breaking ball,
- 13:43Speaker 2: got the bad head out, cheated a little bit, and
- 13:45Speaker 2: he launched ones foul into the seats and I was like, oh, man,
- 13:48Speaker 2: I haven't seen I've never I haven't seen him do
- 13:50Speaker 2: that for forever. And then next piece, whack boom took
- 13:53Speaker 2: one into left field, and so I kind of eliminated
- 13:56Speaker 2: just guys just beating him up middle ind in my opinion,
- 13:59Speaker 2: And now I feel like from that point. You know
- 14:01Speaker 2: he took you mentioned the All Star Game, you know,
- 14:03Speaker 2: controversial pick. He took that off because he wanted to
- 14:06Speaker 2: get some work in whatever it was. But now all
- 14:08Speaker 2: of a sudden, I feel like he's just got this
- 14:10Speaker 2: nice little He's in this groove where he can hit
- 14:13Speaker 2: that ball in the right center field with authority, but
- 14:15Speaker 2: he's just able to pick his spots where you can
- 14:17Speaker 2: just get that bad head out and cheat a little
- 14:19Speaker 2: bit on some of those pitches inside. So it's kind
- 14:21Speaker 2: of you can't just eliminate half the plate for Julio.
- 14:24Speaker 2: So I think there's a little bit of that and
- 14:25Speaker 2: plus two, I don't know what it is man psychologically,
- 14:28Speaker 2: if it's something where like you get to that point
- 14:30Speaker 2: where dust settles, trade deadlines, happened you had the All
- 14:34Speaker 2: Star break or the All Star game, you know, whether
- 14:37Speaker 2: you around your peers at the game or taking the
- 14:39Speaker 2: time off and you look seeing the finish line, you
- 14:41Speaker 2: just kind of have that nothing to lose sort of mentality.
- 14:43Speaker 2: I think maybe there's a little bit of that too. Psychologically,
- 14:45Speaker 2: he gets to a place where it's like, all right,
- 14:46Speaker 2: this is my swing right now. I'm not trying to
- 14:48Speaker 2: overthink it. I'm not trying to be more patient on
- 14:51Speaker 2: the plate because dude, he swings man still a ton
- 14:54Speaker 2: first pitch, like it's ridiculous, and it's like, just have
- 14:57Speaker 2: Adam and just swing, just be an athlete. So I
- 14:59Speaker 2: feel like there's a little of a combination of that.
- 15:00Speaker 2: But may what it is August September, he just lights up.
- 15:03Speaker 2: So it's it's a it's a good song for the Marinids.
- 15:06Speaker 3: And I think some people forget he's still not even
- 15:09Speaker 3: twenty five years old yet.
- 15:10Speaker 2: I get it.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Some guys have MVPs and all that stuff, but he's
- 15:13Speaker 3: a like he's still learning. So I mean, I think
- 15:16Speaker 3: it's cool that you you know, you you see all
- 15:19Speaker 3: those different things that he's learning.
- 15:20Speaker 2: To do in the big leagues. Yeah, for sure.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Last question, last question for me. Anytime I talked to
- 15:25Speaker 3: an Australian baseball player, I have to ask because I
- 15:29Speaker 3: haven't seen my friend Jared MANGIONI is almost exactly your
- 15:32Speaker 3: same age. Yes, do you know what he's doing? And
- 15:36Speaker 3: do you know who I'm talking about?
- 15:38Speaker 2: A dude on that manage? Of course of that Jared Mangier,
- 15:41Speaker 2: of course, what is he doing? Oh man, you stump me?
- 15:46Speaker 2: Know what he and I should know this man because
- 15:48Speaker 2: all the all the Aussies past and present, we all
- 15:51Speaker 2: tend to, you know, stay in the same circles. You know.
- 15:53Speaker 2: You guys had Grant Balfour on months ago. He's one
- 15:56Speaker 2: of my best friends. He was a groomsman at my wedding.
- 15:58Speaker 2: We're really close all the way down to everyone else.
- 16:01Speaker 2: So I should know what men Jerney's up to. I'll
- 16:04Speaker 2: find out though, Eric, I'll get back to you and
- 16:06Speaker 2: I'll find out exactly what he's doing. But there's a
- 16:07Speaker 2: that's a man, that's a name. I haven't heard it
- 16:09Speaker 2: for a long time.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Yes, Prospect with the Blue Jays that I played with
- 16:13Speaker 3: for for a few years. One of the guys, one
- 16:16Speaker 3: of the guys.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Yeah he was Yeah, he was good man. I remember,
- 16:20Speaker 2: like high school age, he was a stud. If the
- 16:22Speaker 2: thing is though in Australia, like I say that now,
- 16:25Speaker 2: if I say this all the time, if I grew
- 16:27Speaker 2: up in the States, yeah, I know A J's got
- 16:29Speaker 2: some boys right now playing you know the Showcase, doing
- 16:32Speaker 2: the Showcase rounds and all that. Yeah, I feel like
- 16:35Speaker 2: if I grew up in the States, man, I don't
- 16:36Speaker 2: know if I ever would have gotten a chance, dude,
- 16:38Speaker 2: because like you're a big fish a small point. So
- 16:40Speaker 2: I'll say me and Jerney was a study. He may
- 16:42Speaker 2: know the he was out in Australia because no one,
- 16:46Speaker 2: no one plays. So there you go. Ryan.
- 16:48Speaker 4: A couple of things. First of all, I mean I
- 16:50Speaker 4: can go back to like Darren Fidge. I mean games
- 16:52Speaker 4: that you guys are talking about. These guys, yeah exactly Williams. Yeah,
- 16:58Speaker 4: I mean baseball Australia. He's big time now yep, Willow
- 17:03Speaker 4: Pete Pete Moylan, you know, and he was, you know,
- 17:05Speaker 4: in jail with our hitting coach the same night. I mean,
- 17:07Speaker 4: I've don't do a lot of Australian stuff. Okay, all right,
- 17:10Speaker 4: so listen, but here's what I want to know. I
- 17:13Speaker 4: got two questions. Were you one we played in the
- 17:15Speaker 4: Hall of Fame game like it was like seven eight
- 17:17Speaker 4: years ago. Has your shoulder recovered from that yet? Because
- 17:20Speaker 4: it was the first time you touched the ball forever?
- 17:22Speaker 4: And then also, who has better hair in dress game?
- 17:25Speaker 4: You are Goldsmith because you guys have are always on
- 17:28Speaker 4: point with the hair and the dressing game.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Yeah, now Goldsmith man rolls out of bed. He's just
- 17:33Speaker 2: got that lego hair about him. It's unreal, like it's
- 17:36Speaker 2: legit and it's got You have to cut one should
- 17:39Speaker 2: otherwise it goes all over the map. He doesn't need
- 17:42Speaker 2: to do that. It's pretty pretty on point a gold Smith,
- 17:44Speaker 2: that's for sure. Now the Hole of Fime, I do
- 17:46Speaker 2: have a story about that Hall of Fame classic real quick,
- 17:48Speaker 2: because I was fired up to pitch. Was Victorino there?
- 17:52Speaker 2: He might have been, yeah, I think so, yeah, he
- 17:54Speaker 2: might be. Well he he comes up to me and
- 17:56Speaker 2: a couple of the guys pitches like hey man and
- 17:58Speaker 2: Jack Wilson too, was like, hey, dude, make sure you
- 18:01Speaker 2: throw breaking balls, change ups. You know, we want to
- 18:03Speaker 2: make this competitive, not just like you know, just slogging
- 18:06Speaker 2: in there like this. I was like, yeah, no worries,
- 18:08Speaker 2: no problem. And my back was killing me because I
- 18:11Speaker 2: did that fun, that fun run thing in the morning too,
- 18:13Speaker 2: like the five K, Like I said, oh, I'll run
- 18:15Speaker 2: it like an idiot, and then my back was all
- 18:17Speaker 2: blown up. But I remember you were catching and I
- 18:19Speaker 2: was all fired up. Dude, like breaking balls, change ups,
- 18:21Speaker 2: warm up. You walk out to the man, You're like,
- 18:23Speaker 2: hey man, listen, don't be throwing any breaking balls. Change up,
- 18:26Speaker 2: just start right down the middle. Let's get the hell
- 18:28Speaker 2: out of here. I was like, dude, man, so there,
- 18:30Speaker 2: I am just coughing up just dudes with just lacing
- 18:32Speaker 2: balls everywhere because you were just going to the hosptball.
- 18:36Speaker 2: I'm like, Dade, I want to spin a breaking ball.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Let's go. It's been forever, let's go. So you ruined
- 18:39Speaker 2: it for me that way. Oh yeah, it's all my fault.
- 18:41Speaker 4: But but you know why I did that because the
- 18:43Speaker 4: year before I did it, and Kevin Gross did it,
- 18:45Speaker 4: and he's like he was a big curveball guy and
- 18:47Speaker 4: he had to have like arm surgery because he He's like,
- 18:50Speaker 4: I couldn't he blew his arm out the year before.
- 18:54Speaker 4: So I was like, dude, just lob it in there.
- 18:56Speaker 4: Let's get the hell out of here. You wanted to
- 18:58Speaker 4: go full like sliders on everybody.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Dude. I was waiting for, like you know, like in
- 19:02Speaker 2: spring Train this I roll it. I just just kept
- 19:04Speaker 2: crushing balls, and there was a popple. I was like,
- 19:07Speaker 2: what's his name, collos Pen You dropped us like a
- 19:09Speaker 2: bullock for the third out, and I'm like, dude, I
- 19:12Speaker 2: can't stay out here. Can we just roll this inning,
- 19:14Speaker 2: and I wouldn't roll it, so I just had to
- 19:15Speaker 2: keep just coughing it up. It was brutal.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Yeah, c AJ had your back. He was trying to
- 19:20Speaker 1: look out for you and for any potential future surgeries
- 19:23Speaker 1: that you'd avoid. But anyway, Ryan, this was awesome man.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Thank you so much for catching up with us. Great
- 19:28Speaker 1: to see you have fun calling obviously all the action
- 19:31Speaker 1: here and keeping track of what the m's are doing.
- 19:34Speaker 1: It's a fun follow right now. Good to talk to
- 19:36Speaker 1: you man, appreciate it.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Thanks guys,
