- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the Three O Take,
- 0:03where we talk all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It. All starts right now.
- 0:15Welcome back to the three O take percent by C kick.
- 0:17This is episode 481. I'll be your host, Kyle Cord,
- 0:20and I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 0:26Nate. We stink.
- 0:30We stink. You don't stink.
- 0:33We stink. We stink.
- 0:35You suck. You guys suck, but you don't
- 0:39stink. And you know you, you understand
- 0:43fully what I'm saying. It makes perfect sense.
- 0:45You suck, but you guys don't stink.
- 0:50You know who does stink? Oh, Captain, my captain.
- 0:56I don't want to hear another word out of you about Aaron
- 0:59Judge for the rest of this series.
- 1:00I don't care what he does. I can I just go ahead and start
- 1:04us off with a a hot take here? I'm sure it's going to be hot.
- 1:11I pinned tonight's loss solely on the shoulders of Aaron Judge.
- 1:17Go ahead, laugh. Go ahead, laugh.
- 1:22But he did nothing, absolutely nothing.
- 1:28And for him to man, we're just diving right into it for him to
- 1:40essentially put the burden on the shoulders of the other guys
- 1:45in that line up to which they did pretty much nothing short of
- 1:49Juan Soto before getting to the 9th.
- 1:53Obviously, you, you just got to be better.
- 1:57You just have you, you got to be better.
- 1:59I mean, what is he now in the in the postseason, or at least the
- 2:04the the last two games he's one for one for 166 for. 46 for 39,
- 2:11something like that. I'm waiting for him to heat up.
- 2:16I don't. I don't know if it's coming.
- 2:20Yeah, he's looking worse. And I was I was willing to hear
- 2:24you about his, his AB starting to look a little bit better.
- 2:27I mean, I was I was kind of writing a bit early on in the
- 2:30post season like, ah, the guy doesn't matter.
- 2:32He's still he's still creating outs, but the at bats just
- 2:38aren't aren't looking better at all.
- 2:39He's not we're not seeing loud contact.
- 2:42We're seeing worse. We're seeing just flails at the
- 2:46plate. Yeah.
- 2:49All right, I'm off my soapbox. I feel like I I feel like an
- 2:52angry parent, like. That's our game to recap.
- 2:55Talking down to his kid after he brings him a bad grade from
- 2:58school. Thanks for hanging out with us.
- 3:00We'll see you guys on Monday. That's it dude.
- 3:03Like the what else is there to talk about?
- 3:06So you do you agree with. That I got to yeah.
- 3:08He looks worse. Yeah, no.
- 3:09No, but in terms of who, who's to blame for the for the loss?
- 3:13Tonight. No, it's no, it's all of it.
- 3:15It's, it's all of it. It's all of it.
- 3:19It's it's a lack of approach. It's, it's somehow Yamamoto
- 3:27eventually found the fastball command at the end, like the at
- 3:31the bottom part of the zone eventually, but everything down
- 3:37was being swung at. Everything down splitters down,
- 3:42sliders down. It didn't matter.
- 3:44They were just swinging. And it's almost like the the
- 3:50game plan or like the the script that everyone keeps saying is,
- 3:54oh, I hope we just get 4 out of Yamamoto.
- 3:58And it was like once he got to four, the Yankees were like,
- 4:00great, he's almost out. Let's just start swinging.
- 4:02Let's just start getting to him. And next thing you knew he's
- 4:06through 6 and you're like, have an approach.
- 4:13Oh, it's so hard to watch. And this is what I was telling
- 4:20you. It's it's I said if you get the
- 4:28best Yankees and the best version of the Dodgers, this
- 4:32will be an incredible World Series.
- 4:34And you're not getting the best version of the Yankees and.
- 4:36This is an incredible World Series, which is what I was
- 4:39telling you last night is like as a Yankee fan and and Yankee
- 4:43fans everywhere. Like it's well, this was more
- 4:47after last night. I didn't, I didn't anticipate
- 4:49you guys going down 2O in the style that you've done or in the
- 4:52style that you have. But like the fact that it's
- 4:55still been an entertaining World Series, the fact that we're
- 4:58collectively as a baseball world are sweating on the edge of our
- 5:01seats in the 9th inning when, like you said, we're not seeing
- 5:05the best version of the Yankees. That tells you like kind of
- 5:09what's within reach. And to use Aaron, Aaron Boone's
- 5:12phrase, it's right there in front of us like I'm.
- 5:18Going to kill someone if I hear that phrase again.
- 5:21It's within reach. I'm trying.
- 5:24Like I know for me it's tough, but I'm like, I'm trying to
- 5:27encourage the Yankee fans out there by like, you're not
- 5:33playing your best baseball right now and you've come essentially
- 5:372 innings worth of baseball. You've come within two innings
- 5:41of actually being up two games to none right now.
- 5:49Man, Rodon stunk. That was rough.
- 5:57If I hear Smoltz, call him Rondo and again, like dude, can we
- 6:01guess? The other thing, that was
- 6:03literally just three hours of Dodger glazing.
- 6:05And I get that. Like, I understand the Yankees
- 6:08didn't have a good game. I understand that it was, it
- 6:12wasn't really competitive until the 9th inning, but Oh my.
- 6:20Just glazing over, glazing over, glazing over and over and over.
- 6:28This is what I told you yesterday.
- 6:30This is the problem with this booth.
- 6:32I I've actually been a Smoltz supporter.
- 6:37I think Joe Davis is great, but it's like it's so over the top
- 6:44anti Yankees and it's smacking you in the face while they're
- 6:50losing and it's brutal. Anyway, bullpen look good.
- 6:58Bullpen I'm impressed. I'm impressed.
- 7:01I I thought, I thought Jake Cousins look good.
- 7:05Both pens look good. I thought Tim Hill look good.
- 7:07I thought, I thought, you know, Clay Holmes continues to look
- 7:11good. Like I was impressed.
- 7:14That's that's all you can hope for is to just kind of keep them
- 7:18at Bay and and keep your offense at A at a point where they have
- 7:22a shot. But man, dude, it's and sitting
- 7:27there watching with Paige and she's like, it's, she's like, I
- 7:31kind of hate them because they suck and then they give you a
- 7:35little bit of hope and then they suck again.
- 7:38And the Dodgers are just consistent.
- 7:40And I'm like, yes, that's the you just described.
- 7:43That's a wrap. That's a wrap.
- 7:45That's it. That's what I've been living for
- 7:49this last 180 games or whatever it is.
- 7:53It's it's it's tough, man. It's tough.
- 7:59It's tough. Well, let's talk about some
- 8:02positives here on behalf of the. Let's continue to Dodger Glaze.
- 8:05Let's just keep the. Yeah, I mean.
- 8:08The Broad. Yeah, give credit where credit's
- 8:09due. Like I can't.
- 8:11I'm not saying that they're not I'm, I'm not saying they're
- 8:13wrong, but it's just. Yeah, I mean, I mean.
- 8:17Every little thing. Sure, but like how much can you
- 8:20expect that? Like how how?
- 8:22How much do you want them to praise the Yankees when they're
- 8:31the team that's down to games tonight?
- 8:33I'm just saying like say, say something.
- 8:37Else, Nate, it's just. Only talking like you can say
- 8:41other things you could bring up, like you could bring up comeback
- 8:44victories from the Yankees throughout the year.
- 8:46You could come you bring up stats from like what their
- 8:50offense does from the 7th inning on.
- 8:51Like there was none of that. There's none of that.
- 8:54It's just and every time they go to a break, they're like Dodgers
- 8:56trying to take a 2O series lead. And it's like everything is like
- 9:00pro dodgers. And I'm, I'm not saying that the
- 9:04Yankees played well enough to deserve any type of praise.
- 9:07I'm just saying try to be somewhat neutral.
- 9:17Hear me out though. I don't want to.
- 9:22Juan Soto leads off the 9th with the ball off the wall as a
- 9:28second hit of the game. You know what else that was?
- 9:35That was the Yankees second hit of the game.
- 9:38I'm aware. With that reality in mind, how
- 9:43much can you expect them to come to bat for the Yankees?
- 9:49Like I, I, I, I'll hear you out. I'll agree with you on the fact
- 9:52that like, OK, maybe pull some pull from from some statistical
- 9:57archives about like maybe what they're capable of doing in the
- 10:009th or or what they've done in in past.
- 10:03But like comments, there was nothing.
- 10:04But in the present moment, I I understand why why it might be a
- 10:08challenge to look at the very, very lackluster.
- 10:13Yeah, I won't even say Yankees offense, just Yankees team at
- 10:15this point. And and try to feel and have
- 10:19this sense that you have to talk them up because it's shit.
- 10:24It's just kind of hard right now.
- 10:26Just kind of hard I. Hear you.
- 10:29He ain't just getting railed the chat, by the way.
- 10:31No, it's sorry. Hard for the course.
- 10:34I'm sorry, it's just I, I don't have control over the comments
- 10:39that go up, Nate. I hope you.
- 10:43Hope you recognize that. That's why we're here.
- 10:46There's. Somebody in the in the weeds
- 10:48that's that's at sharing adding these comments to the to the
- 10:51stream. I don't, I don't know what.
- 10:53To tell you there's not so many Yankee fans willing to go in
- 10:55front of a camera right now, by the way, so.
- 10:57Hey, you know what? Talk.
- 10:58You guys can talk all you want in the comments section and I'm
- 11:01here. I'm owning it.
- 11:02I'm wearing this one on the chin in public.
- 11:09I got to get some claps on here. Give me, give me the crickets.
- 11:15At least can I have the crickets?
- 11:19In in lieu of the claps, since I got to add the claps to the
- 11:22soundboard, I'll give you the John Kenzie Noel Spanish
- 11:25broadcast. No, no, no.
- 11:40Well done mate. I'm about to sign off for the
- 11:45last time on this podcast. I I don't have AI, don't have
- 12:07claps on the soundboard. That was the best I could do.
- 12:09Yeah, I'm sure. Anyway, no, but talking about
- 12:15the positives here on behalf of the Dodgers, Yamamoto, we got to
- 12:20talk. Yamamoto start like this is what
- 12:25the Dodgers paid this man for. Yeah. 12 years, 325 million.
- 12:30Don't forget it. He showed up, man.
- 12:35He showed up. There's a lot of less
- 12:37speculation coming into the series talking about like, who's
- 12:40going to be who's going to be the guy you can rely on more
- 12:44based on recent history. Jack Flaherty.
- 12:48Yamamoto. Jack Flaherty gave him every
- 12:52reason to believe that that he was the right pick last night.
- 12:55But Yamamoto was like, hey, don't forget about me.
- 12:59That that was a true. Command True command of three
- 13:04pitches. True command of the fastball,
- 13:08which took 2-3 innings to find, but definitely true command of
- 13:13the splitter and slider. Like everything was excellent.
- 13:19It's the length, man. That's what's most impressive.
- 13:22Like command, certainly important, and some might argue
- 13:25that that was even more impressive.
- 13:27But for me, just looking at the stat sheet, the fact that he
- 13:30gets you into the 7th again. That's why I said like, game one
- 13:35was the most important game for the Yankees.
- 13:38Game one, getting to Flaherty, getting to the bullpen was the
- 13:40most important thing they could have done.
- 13:42You got length out of Flaherty. You got length out of Yamamoto.
- 13:46And now the what is it Game three or Game 4?
- 13:50The Yankees are, or excuse me, the Dodgers are planning on
- 13:52doing their bullpen game like Bueller's.
- 13:55Going Game 3? Yeah, they have more game four
- 13:58if they want. I don't even know if they may
- 14:00just roll Flaherty back out there if they're up 30.
- 14:04I don't know, but like it, it's this is this is this is exactly
- 14:13what the Dodgers we're hoping for.
- 14:17This is picture perfect start minus hopefully.
- 14:24Hopefully there's nothing with Otani like I hope there's
- 14:26nothing to worry about having much there.
- 14:29Haven't even mentioned that, but, well, I might as well talk
- 14:34about it now. Yeah, I mean, Fast forward to
- 14:37later in the game, this this goes down and there's just a
- 14:41collective silence that falls over Dodger Stadium and you
- 14:49pretty much anybody else watching that's not a Yankees
- 14:51fan. They're sitting there going
- 14:53I'll, I'll. And I'll, I'll say this as a
- 14:56Yankees fan, if there's any Yankees fan cheering about that,
- 14:59I, that's, it's disgusting. I don't want to win that way.
- 15:03Like I have no interest in the Yankees winning that way.
- 15:06I, I want the Yankees to beat the best.
- 15:11Like if they win, it's because they beat the best, not because
- 15:15Otani wasn't available. So I don't want Otani missing
- 15:18anything. I don't want him hurting at all.
- 15:21I want him fully healthy. I want him giving him I wanted
- 15:24him giving the, you know, the best competitive ABS and, and,
- 15:30you know, base running that he can give and shoulders are
- 15:33weird, man. Shoulders are very, very weird.
- 15:39I really hope everything's OK. We heard on the I think there
- 15:44were reports the notifications coming through because he either
- 15:48he was miked up or the interpreter was miked up.
- 15:52But whoever ran out to him while he was laying on the ground at
- 15:552nd, they were talking in Japanese.
- 15:59And then like I think Joe Davis said that they heard on the
- 16:03Japanese broadcast that he was still, Tony was saying it was
- 16:07his shoulder. It was his shoulder.
- 16:09So I was like, wrist is scary. I think wrist is scarier than
- 16:13the shoulder. If that wrist goes like in any
- 16:17which way, that's really not good.
- 16:20I feel like a shoulder, you can pop it in, you can kind of
- 16:22manage, I don't know. Well, did you see the slide when
- 16:26it happened? They showed the replay and his
- 16:28his palm just planted into the ground and did not give
- 16:33whatsoever. That's.
- 16:34Weird that like shoulders just don't need a whole lot.
- 16:37They just don't need much to to pop out and shoulders are very
- 16:43like. Strange because I had a shoulder
- 16:44injury senior year of high school where the coolest
- 16:50explanation of it was like my doctor explained it.
- 16:53Your shoulders like a ball on a tee, like a golf ball on a tee.
- 16:57And then your tendons are going from the ball to the tee.
- 17:01And if your shoulder slides out and it pops out, it stretches
- 17:06those tendons. So if it pops out, it's more
- 17:09likely to pop out again until you either have surgery or rehab
- 17:14those tendons to tighten up. So the fact that it happened,
- 17:18obviously surgery isn't an option.
- 17:20Obviously rehab isn't an option. Like you got to kind of worry
- 17:23about another slide or a violent swing that could aggravate it,
- 17:30which sucks, which really does suck because like, I want this
- 17:36World Series to have all the stars at full health doing their
- 17:40thing and just hope it's negative, you know, negative
- 17:45results and and nothing to worry about day off the heel.
- 17:49Hope it's all good. Speaking of negative results,
- 17:52let's revisit this Rodon outing. What was it?
- 17:583 bombs on the night? Tommy had been solo Homer, Tay
- 18:01O2 run Homer, kicking off that campaign for World Series MVP.
- 18:06Still got a little ways to go, but.
- 18:09Right now, Freddy's in the lead for that, I believe.
- 18:11Right now, Freddy's in the lead, but you know, a couple more
- 18:13bops. Maybe we're talking Tay, Oscar
- 18:17and then back-to-back. You mentioned Freddie follows up
- 18:22with a back-to-back solo home run.
- 18:24Both of those took place in the 3rd and he just did.
- 18:28Rodon just did not look great. It's all fastballs too.
- 18:32Like he's really stubborn with his fastball and he we've seen
- 18:3799100 out of him in past, but like he's just not that guy
- 18:41anymore. But he still has that mentality.
- 18:45His slider is great. Like he's got a premier slider.
- 18:50It's just you kind of overdo it with the fastball at times and
- 18:54you challenge hitters and you just don't have the Velo to
- 18:58challenge the way he used to. And that's what it was.
- 19:02That's that's what he's done all year.
- 19:05It's what he did all last year too.
- 19:06Like I know it's been a better year.
- 19:08I know he's had a couple decent starts in the postseason, but
- 19:13this was not great. Was it 4 and a third?
- 19:15Like it's just. Three and a third.
- 19:18Three and a third. Not good.
- 19:21Not good Which? That that very point and it it
- 19:24goes without saying that I'm not I'm not sharing anything that's
- 19:27that isn't already obvious. But it goes back to the
- 19:30beginning of this series when we were talking about the
- 19:33importance of specifically for the Yankees, Cole and Rodon
- 19:37being able to give you that length because those are two
- 19:39guys that Cole more so. But two, those are two guys that
- 19:43you you need to bank on, you need to rely on to in in terms
- 19:47of giving you innings so that you don't have to tap into
- 19:52these, these leverage relievers and give these Dodgers who are
- 19:56already ready to feast more, more looks at these guys.
- 20:00Because that's going to come back to bite you later in the
- 20:02series when you're already down. Cole's length was cut short from
- 20:07Boone and Rodon's length cut short from himself.
- 20:13Which the cold decision we didn't really, we didn't really
- 20:16focus on, yeah, I mean we didn't cover it, but that maybe is
- 20:21because we neither of us felt particularly strong about that.
- 20:24Or do you feel like a day removed now from it?
- 20:27Do you do you feel like that was maybe not the right call?
- 20:29Day removed. Was it 88 pitches?
- 20:31Like, yeah, that's what I'm saying, though, that that was
- 20:37the conversation of like the way Boone uses these relievers to
- 20:42steal outs to get the last out of an inning, sit down, come
- 20:47back out. Like he he loves that he does
- 20:50that with all of his relievers, which I hate.
- 20:54I hate. I feel like there's no stat in
- 20:58the world that's saying that's a good thing for relievers, but if
- 21:04you get one more out of coal like that doesn't need to happen
- 21:08and then you're not relying on a Nestor in the 10th for the first
- 21:13time and ever. Anyway, Now we have multiple
- 21:21relievers that have been seen, like you said, like multiple
- 21:24looks. They're up to O and they've
- 21:25gotten looks and you saw I know we're going to wrap up Rodon,
- 21:31but you saw what Blake Chinon like what did they say?
- 21:3527 pitches last night, another 30 plus pitches tonight.
- 21:40Like you can see what that does. Like even in a loss, the Yankees
- 21:44were able to put put together good ABS.
- 21:47You had the same part of the order.
- 21:49See him again. These are things that like you
- 21:52don't see in the scorebook. They're not going to be in
- 21:54headlines. They're not a part of articles,
- 21:56but these are things that impact the rest of the seven game set.
- 22:00Kid nose ball. Thanks bro.
- 22:03Kid nose ball. Hey, found it.
- 22:06No, but to wrap up the book here on Rodon, Justin Havens on
- 22:12Twitter. Carlos Rodon is the first
- 22:13Yankees pitcher to allow three plus homers in a World Series
- 22:16game since Catfish Hunter in Game Three in 1977.
- 22:19Not exactly. First Yankees pitcher.
- 22:24Oh, I'm sorry, I was just the first pitcher.
- 22:26No. No.
- 22:27Yeah. First Yankees pitcher to allow
- 22:28three plus homers in a World Series game since Catfish Hunter
- 22:30in Game three in 1977. Great name to have company with.
- 22:34But in that context, not the not the company you want to have.
- 22:38But you know, the a a thought here though on on Rodon's outing
- 22:45and really the last couple, I guess going back to the that DS
- 22:49start against the Royals where he was just acting like a nut on
- 22:53the mound. Burning himself out after one
- 22:55thing one time through. Well, they talked about on the
- 22:57broadcast tonight. How he, I, I mean, I don't know
- 23:02if they can confirm this. I don't know if he's addressed
- 23:04this in part particularly, but. I know where they're going.
- 23:08They said that he tried to model himself more after Garrett Cole
- 23:14in terms of being a robot. And that has he has and we, we
- 23:17we took note of that in the starts following that start
- 23:21against the the Royals. We were like, you know, it seems
- 23:24like he's dialed it back a little bit and he did the same
- 23:26thing tonight. But I just it I clearly that's
- 23:29not the fix he needs to be making or the OR the change I
- 23:31don't need to be making be. Yourself, weirdo.
- 23:34You're so weird to be your own human self.
- 23:39The the royal start was very like, he was like Uber amped.
- 23:45I'm like the OK. You're not that guy.
- 23:46Either you're not that guy either, but you're also not
- 23:48Garrett Cole like is is as annoying as I think Garrett Cole
- 23:52can be at times just watching him and just being Kermit all
- 23:55the time. I can acknowledge that like he's
- 23:58just like he's that guy that just dials it in, locks it in,
- 24:02doesn't really want to always himself, doesn't want to have
- 24:04anything to do with anybody else.
- 24:07And and it it works for him. But Carlos Rodin has not, at
- 24:11least this postseason. I won't say he hasn't found his
- 24:14identity, but he he has lost it and is maybe still still looking
- 24:20for it and. Another thing that doesn't show
- 24:23up then anything sexy in the box score but that started with A2
- 24:26out knock for Mookie. That inning started with that.
- 24:34It's this lineup is stupid. I mean, Will Smith hitting what,
- 24:417th, 8th, roping a ball dead center, putting a dent in the
- 24:46wall. Like it's relentless, dude.
- 24:51And I'm not here to like act like I'm any better than Rodon,
- 24:56but like this is a brutal lineup.
- 25:01This is one of the, I think we're going to look back 1520
- 25:06years from now and do those like weird double takes like where
- 25:11you're like, they were on the same team, These guys were on
- 25:16the same team. It's I'm telling you, dude, the
- 25:19depth and we've said this time and time again, this lineup is
- 25:25so deep. You've got Tom Yedmin coming out
- 25:28tonight having a couple knock. I mean, he had the, he had the
- 25:31home run couple knocks, Tay Oscar, like we mentioned,
- 25:35starting to heat up a little. Bit lefty killers, both of those
- 25:38guys. Both both guys had two hits on
- 25:41the night combined to go 4 for eight on the night.
- 25:44I mean, if if you get guys like that and and I say guys like
- 25:47that, obviously Tommy, but they're not the dudes, right?
- 25:50That's that's what I'm saying. I mean, you've got Tommy Edmond
- 25:52who has been hot, but I'm saying like if you've got these guys
- 25:57taking advantage of your best options on the mound, it's it's
- 26:00you may as well just pack it up. That's what that's The thing is
- 26:03that like you can look at Rodon and be like, oh, maybe he
- 26:05neutralizes Freddy. Maybe he neutralizes Otani.
- 26:11OK, the rest of the righties in the lineup are going to get you.
- 26:14Like it's like it just doesn't matter.
- 26:16Do that. Go ahead and neutralize those
- 26:18guys, but you got to worry about three through 9, I guess, or 6
- 26:24through 5 through 9, whatever. Dodge's lineup, man, it's
- 26:30unbelievable. But talking about the relievers,
- 26:33though, Tim Hill to be exact, You, you got to find the sick
- 26:38twisted humor and him coming out and just, Oh yeah, handling his
- 26:42business 24 hours after, you know, the, the, the questionable
- 26:48call of questionable calls. Yep.
- 26:51That's some sick, twisted humor for Yankee fans.
- 26:55I mean, the the most predictable outcome, that was like there,
- 27:00there was only one outcome. When Tim Hill comes into the
- 27:03game, that was the only thing that was happening.
- 27:05Super predictable. Yep.
- 27:08Yeah. Impressive from the bullpen,
- 27:11gave gave their team a shot and you know that's all you can ask
- 27:16for. And the fact that the inning let
- 27:18off with Soto just gave me enough.
- 27:25Enough hope to scoot to the edge of my seat and lean forward.
- 27:30And yeah. Well, let's, let's talk about
- 27:32that. Let's talk about that 9th inning
- 27:34because admittedly I was, I had a little bit of game one
- 27:38hangover where I'm like, man, I guess it's good.
- 27:41This is good, entertaining baseball.
- 27:43Game was not great until this point.
- 27:45Yeah, I was like, it's not a blowout, but like, you know, we,
- 27:48we've obviously seen, we've seen better games, but you know, it's
- 27:52it's it's within reach. So I'm going to stay dialed in.
- 27:55I watched the whole thing, obviously, but it wasn't until
- 27:58that final inning where I'm like.
- 28:01Are. Are we about to see a, a, a
- 28:04punch back in response to last night from the Yankees here?
- 28:08And I mean, they load the bases and Meredith looks over at me
- 28:11and she's like, honestly, I, I kind of just want to see him do
- 28:14it just just for the sake of the series.
- 28:17I'm like. I'm with you.
- 28:19Economy too, I'm not going to lie, just for just for
- 28:22entertainment value. You remember what I said last
- 28:25night when we were talking about Nestor and him being on the
- 28:28roster and him being used and who was dropped?
- 28:34And you, John? Birdie and I told you that there
- 28:37was going to be a moment in this game where you would need a
- 28:39veteran at bat from Alrighty and this was it.
- 28:43And no disrespect to Jose Trevino, not John Birdie.
- 28:49I'm. Not into that 1 though.
- 28:51It was, it was, it was almost like a little ambush.
- 28:54Like I'm going, I know I'm getting a heater right away.
- 28:56It's bases loaded. Like let me try to get it.
- 28:59Then he put put good wood on it. But like John Birdie, you traded
- 29:04for John Birdie. Like you made that move to have
- 29:09that veteran peace, to have the versatility in the infield to
- 29:14provide good ABS against lefties.
- 29:20And that to me was a John Birdie moment.
- 29:25And you don't have them because you want to, Nestor.
- 29:33There's mismanagement smudged all over this thing, man.
- 29:37Oh, I mean based on what you're. Saying not to sit here and say
- 29:40that John Birdie was going to come clutch and, you know, come
- 29:42through with a knock, but I personally like, I would rather
- 29:46have John Birdie hitting than a Jose Trevino.
- 29:51That's fair. And if I'm, I mean if I'm
- 29:54tracking with what you're saying, which I agree with by
- 29:57the way, like would certainly be beneficial to have John Birdie
- 30:01and at least as an option in that situation.
- 30:03Speed, like can there's a lot that he can provide.
- 30:07There's a lot that he brings to the table.
- 30:08And I'm not saying you don't have Trevino, you got to have a
- 30:10backup catcher, but that's not where the moment comes down to.
- 30:15And we've watched back-to-back games of moments coming down to
- 30:19one AB and it's not the guy. Nestor's not the guy for that
- 30:28moment. Jose Trevino is not the guy for
- 30:31that moment. And I'm not going to sit here
- 30:34and say that John Birdie is freaking Rodger Maris, but like,
- 30:40you brought him in to provide a veteran at bat against lefties
- 30:45and he's not available. It's a ripple effect, man.
- 30:50The the decision to bring on Rodon and leave Birdie off the
- 30:55off the roster or Britt leave to bring Nestor on board and to
- 31:00leave Bertie off. That Nestor decision has you
- 31:05could argue has had an impact on both games to this point.
- 31:08And he didn't even pitch in Game 2.
- 31:09Yep, Yep. Yeah.
- 31:16Give me a scale. Scale one to 1010 being.
- 31:21Go ahead Grand Slam or I'm sorry, 10 being go ahead and win
- 31:29the game. How likely did you think a win
- 31:38was with it within reach and that ninth because I thought I.
- 31:43Was at like a four to be honest, because I thought that Trevino
- 31:48is decent against lefties, don't get me wrong.
- 31:51And he has had some clutch moments.
- 31:52He's notable for like a, you know, little humpback liner over
- 31:59the second baseman kind of thing.
- 32:03But even that happening, Jazz was on 2nd, right?
- 32:08So it'll likely would have been a tie game for any kind of any
- 32:12kind of hit. But Verdugo coming up right
- 32:16after that against Vesia, I mean, it was start.
- 32:21It was starting to get that build up and the Rizzo at bat.
- 32:25Really, it got me fired up because like I love that I in a
- 32:30day where no one wears it, no one wears it and I know that
- 32:37sucker hurt dude. I know that thing.
- 32:39Oh. Yeah, I was he.
- 32:40Wasn't even giving high fives with that arm when he came back
- 32:43to the dug. I was giving high fives with the
- 32:44other hand. I know that thing hurt and that
- 32:47I that just felt like such a such an old school baseball
- 32:52moment and I was starting to feel it, but I was probably out
- 32:56like a four or five because I just, there's no bench, there's
- 33:00no depth, nothing there. Because you opted for Nestor,
- 33:08who has good numbers against Otani as a starter through the
- 33:14regular season. Sick.
- 33:20It's a great a decision, yeah. Any who's?
- 33:25Yeah, I, I mean, obviously all the credit in the world to the
- 33:30Dodgers for for doing what they did to go up two games and none,
- 33:32but also credit to credit to those few ABS Yeah, in the night
- 33:39there for the Yankees. I mean that those are some some
- 33:42professional at bats for sure. I think I noticed Jazz scoot up
- 33:46in the box a little bit off of training.
- 33:49Did you? I think he scooted up just a
- 33:51hair to be able to get to that slider.
- 33:53I was impressed by that. I love that.
- 33:56That's old school, too. Go get up there in front of the
- 33:59break. I like that a lot.
- 34:02Yeah. Good ABS.
- 34:05I the versatility. Like, I think there's so many
- 34:11positive things to say about the Dodgers.
- 34:13And you can look past all the superstars, but when you look at
- 34:18a Tommy Edmond starting at shortstop game one and then
- 34:23starting at center field Game 2. But Gavin Lux taking a seat off
- 34:29of a lefty starter, Miguel Rojas coming back like you, you just I
- 34:35feel like Dave Roberts's job has never been easier.
- 34:40It's never been easier to just have these pieces that you can
- 34:43slide O lefty on the bump to start the game.
- 34:47Let's slide Lux outlet's move Kike down to 2nd move Tommy to
- 34:51to center. Miguel comes in like they're
- 34:55just the it's such an incredibly well thought out roster.
- 35:00I mean, just you're seeing Tommy, Edmund Garrett crochet
- 35:03like deadline moves make huge impacts on this team.
- 35:09And again, that's like it's looking past the obvious super
- 35:13stardom. So yeah.
- 35:20I just saw, I just saw the news that Shohei Otani has suffered
- 35:26what they're ruling a subluxation of his left
- 35:30shoulder. Suffered only partial
- 35:33dislocation. Yeah.
- 35:38Day off, Yeah. I feel like you can bounce back
- 35:44from that now. I think so.
- 35:46I think so. I mean, that's day off and I
- 35:56think he'll be all right. You got to think that the the
- 36:01right elbow is fully healthy, by the way, right?
- 36:04I know Smoltz was. Every every bit of pre game
- 36:09coverage that I see he's. Always throwing.
- 36:12He's all literally doing. Nothing else except throwing.
- 36:15So I'm like he's. I mean, it's because.
- 36:17He doesn't take VP, he's a weirdo.
- 36:22He doesn't take on field BPI. Kind of respect it.
- 36:25It's crazy, that guy's. Showing Go.
- 36:28Yeah. Insane, by the way.
- 36:31Not too. Not too.
- 36:32Curious because it's like if you have a bad left shoulder and a
- 36:35bad right elbow, like you kind of barely getting up there, but.
- 36:39It's fine, I did. I did.
- 36:42Tell me if you agree with this. Now here no.
- 36:46Answer me this. Do you like A1 armed show?
- 36:50Hey, for the rest of this postseason over A2 armed Aaron
- 36:53Judge? Shut up.
- 36:55Answer me honestly. No.
- 36:57Answer me honestly. I just came across a graphic
- 37:01Aaron Judges postseasons hitting 150 with two home runs, 19
- 37:05strikeouts yes and a whopping O for 10 with runners in scoring
- 37:10position. I like my chances with A1 arm
- 37:13show. Hey.
- 37:14Yeah, obviously. Duh.
- 37:17He's going to have to come through, man.
- 37:19He's going to have to come through.
- 37:20But many, many, many Yankees fans remember this was the same
- 37:30story with a Rod. A Rod did not have a good
- 37:34postseason to until O 9. He was horrendous as a Yankee in
- 37:40the postseason and it was multiple visits and O 9 is when
- 37:46he popped off and it's it's the where I'm struggling is that if
- 37:53they do lose this, like I don't know if we see him in it again.
- 37:58You know he's 33 if Soto walks, stands same age 34, something
- 38:05like that. And that's exactly what we
- 38:08talked about before the series started.
- 38:09Who needs this world? Series need this so bad.
- 38:17I don't know. I'm ready to blow it up.
- 38:19We're personally, I'm ready to blow it all up.
- 38:21Can't disagree man, lot lot happened in Game 2 but you know
- 38:28what this thing is heading east. I'm so, so ready.
- 38:35What's the I want to look up the weather.
- 38:36Let's look up the weather real fast.
- 38:40Is it? Is it turtleneck weather?
- 38:41I want it to be turtleneck weather.
- 38:44I'm, I'm pretty sure. Oh.
- 38:46Yeah, all right. So Monday.
- 38:50Monday's a high of 59. Give us the weather preview
- 38:53here. Monday's a high of 59 and we're
- 38:58talking eight O 8 Eastern. So this is we're looking at like
- 39:02below 50 for these games in New York.
- 39:06We're talking, we're talking Leatherman jackets, we're
- 39:09talking turtlenecks. This is what October baseball
- 39:13should look like. Hold on, I'm I'm not seeing the
- 39:15same thing saying hi 60 on Monday.
- 39:24Yes, at 59, didn't I? You one point in me.
- 39:28Well, no, no, no, sorry. I sorry.
- 39:30I I wasn't like trying to compare.
- 39:32I'm just saying the it's saying high 60 and then around 8:00
- 39:36Eastern it'll it's saying it'll be 52.
- 39:39I love that. Is that is that?
- 39:40Cold enough? That's chilly little.
- 39:43I'm chilly. Oh, it's chilly.
- 39:44Get chilly as you go. That's what post season baseball
- 39:49needs to look like. I love it.
- 39:53Yankee Stadiums got to be rowdy. Rowdy has to be like.
- 40:01These are they have to, they have to take two out of three,
- 40:05obviously like they have to take two out of three.
- 40:10For those in the chat saying the game starts at 7, literally
- 40:12every game of this World Series starts at 8:00 PM yeah, 880-8808
- 40:18for every every single game yeah you, you got it you got it.
- 40:24Sorry, repeat the point 'cause I think I I agree with what you
- 40:28said, but I just want to make sure.
- 40:29I heard it. Well, they obviously have to
- 40:30take two out of three, but. Preferably you'd you'd.
- 40:33Preferably take 3. Sure, but if you're going to
- 40:36take two, I would argue you'd you'd you'd want to take the
- 40:39first two now just to even it right back up.
- 40:43And then at that point, you're playing a best of three.
- 40:46Yeah. And so that's so really got to
- 40:50have a short leash leash with with Clark Schmidt.
- 40:53I think this is you got to have a short leash.
- 40:58This is a must win. Game 3 is a must, must, must
- 41:01win. Yeah, you got to have a a short
- 41:04leash with Schmidt because you know you're not going to get any
- 41:06run support from Judge. So you know, you're going to
- 41:09have to look, you're going to have to look for some support
- 41:11elsewhere in the in the lineup. I'm already down.
- 41:15So are the Yankees two games to none?
- 41:18You got any? You got anything else on
- 41:20tonight? Or, or or looking ahead to games
- 41:233-4 and five in the Bronx. Well, game five if necessary.
- 41:29Nate, what would you do? Seriously.
- 41:31Like where does your head go if the if this team gets swept?
- 41:38If they get swept, it's blown up.
- 41:40And it's like, as much as it would hurt and as as as
- 41:43embarrassing as it would be, I know that that embarrassment
- 41:46would lead to firing. Like Boone would have to be
- 41:51fired, have to be fired. How many years in a row have we
- 41:56said this? It's not going to get fired.
- 41:59He takes the team to the World Series and you think they're
- 42:02going to. Fire him, he swept.
- 42:04He's. Done far worse in seasons prior.
- 42:07And they said we're, we're, he's our guy.
- 42:09We're bringing them back. I feel like we're bone.
- 42:12Guys. I think Hal was adopted.
- 42:15I don't think there's, I don't think there's any George blood
- 42:18flowing through that man's veins because George was just, if he
- 42:22was embarrassed, he was firing somebody.
- 42:29I'm hurting. Dodgers up two games and none in
- 42:34the 2024 World Series. They can smell it.
- 42:39They can smell it. I don't know, man.
- 42:44It's looking real bleak. It's looking real bleak for the
- 42:47for the Yanks. But like I said, it's heading
- 42:49back out East. I, I think, you know, as, as, as
- 42:54a baseball fan, just generally speaking here, I'm excited for
- 42:59some East Coast World Series baseball.
- 43:02You know, the, the West Coast was nice there.
- 43:04I saw on MLB Network the MLB Central crew was talking about
- 43:08like, you know, which park would you rather take?
- 43:11And they're like, I mean, just look around.
- 43:12I think we're going to take the LA weather and just the
- 43:15atmosphere here. But but D Roe I I think was
- 43:19like, give me that E give me that NE baseball baby.
- 43:23And I'm I'm I'm with them, man. You need you need long sleeves
- 43:28for post season baseball, specifically the World Series at
- 43:31the end of October. It's just it's a must and I'm
- 43:34glad it. Should look.
- 43:36I'm glad we're getting it and I'm looking forward to it, but
- 43:42that's all I got my. Friend, you might see actual
- 43:44tears soon. There might be actual tears
- 43:47flowing down my face. Oh, I hate this dude.
- 43:52I hate this. I hate this.
- 43:54I hate this all. Right.
