Transcript
- 0:43Doctor Who commentary podcast I am here today with the enviably
- 0:50fanciable. Luke Malloy, hello.
- 0:53I'm Luke. Oh why thank you.
- 0:55Hello everybody. Hi Joe.
- 0:58How you took that complement with such Grace, Luke so far, we
- 1:04have plumbed the depths of sorry.
- 1:06The heights of a good man goes to war and we have Never risen
- 1:10higher and now we've never gotten lower right heading into
- 1:13let's kill it. I think you quite like this one,
- 1:16don't you? Mmm.
- 1:21No. Oh my God, I really do.
- 1:26I really like a good man goes to war.
- 1:29Hmm, I think hate this. What?
- 1:31I don't hate it. Like I've seen people hating.
- 1:33I, it's fine. It's very watchable for me but
- 1:36it's not one. I tend to go to.
- 1:39Have you ever heard of the Banksy of the Doctor Who
- 1:42Universe doc? Oh, ho I've heard of him.
- 1:45Who's he again? Are you, is it?
- 1:48Writes reviews of big finish's generally.
- 1:51Oh yeah, that one. Yeah.
- 1:53Article look on his blog before watching this earlier.
- 1:57Never guess what? He gave this out in.
- 2:00Was it a 1? It was an 8.
- 2:03What fizzing? With ideas and effervescent
- 2:08charm. Oh my God.
- 2:10Yeah Julie, what happened? He was 24 a bad time.
- 2:13I think it's fine. That was around the time of his
- 2:16divorce. So I mean he Ben, you know,
- 2:19desperately Clinging On to anything you might find
- 2:21enjoyable. Wow, okay.
- 2:25Well then I definitely like this morning.
- 2:27That is when I first watched it and I first watched it.
- 2:31Oh my god. I've got it in my eye like this
- 2:34when I first watched it and I really despise it now.
- 2:38Yeah. Well, I thought the opposite
- 2:39journey. I hated this on first.
- 2:41So I just don't know what he's This and like as a 15 year old
- 2:46who's excited and you know, he goes to school, right?
- 2:49Yeah. It's going to talk to who's on
- 2:50tonight ever. And then this came on, you think
- 2:53I'll fuck I've got to look at people in the eye tomorrow.
- 2:58It was Doctor Who that when you're young and cringes you
- 3:02out, and it's embarrassing. That's that makes you feel
- 3:05horrible where it's like, when you're older, you can just take
- 3:08you just like that. It's Doctor Who it's all shit.
- 3:10But when you're younger is, it's so much harder to take and their
- 3:14the thus, our experience is that live with you, or like, you
- 3:17mean, yeah. Like a Zinger comes out.
- 3:19Everyone Lords like human nature and Rosa and something like
- 3:23that. There's nothing finer than that
- 3:25moment when you hear from Doctor Who fans going.
- 3:28Did you watch that? How amazing was that after
- 3:31doomsday? I remember to Buddy girls in my
- 3:34office and never seen dr. And their life talking about
- 3:36doomsday going. Oh, it was so sad.
- 3:38I did you see Tyler leaving Doctor Who last night, I'm
- 3:41going? What is going on with the world?
- 3:42I'm sorry. Yeah.
- 3:44When the world is just captured by Journey's End that like, hey,
- 3:48hey, It was the world, it was her interview, wasn't it, always
- 3:52everywhere. What could have been Mass
- 3:54genocides going on around the world, but the fact that David
- 3:57Tennant was leaving doctor, that worked for them for the first
- 4:02time in those pictures, doing the rounds of him.
- 4:06Coming back for like the hundredth anniversary.
- 4:09Yeah, yeah. It's gonna happen.
- 4:11Looking a bit like he did in last of the time Lords.
- 4:14Yeah. I got to admit, I haven't
- 4:20actually return to watch. Let's go hit up for some time
- 4:23now for my own sanity, I'm now about to embark on it for the
- 4:28second time. In the same day.
- 4:31I decided the fact that I can look at your face while I'm
- 4:33doing it. Is what's going to get me
- 4:35through this? Oh, okay.
- 4:38So sorry that you're going to strain it.
- 4:49For a good recap now of Series 6
- 5:03need. No, it's been three months
- 5:07though and it didn't make sense. The first else you're watching
- 5:14it. It does annoy me though.
- 5:16It's who part is right? When they do the previously on?
- 5:20Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:22They cherry pick. All the pertinent points that
- 5:24you need for the conclusion to make sense.
- 5:27So it draws out all the things that are going to be part of the
- 5:29climax and you know what to look out for now.
- 5:32Yeah, I know you do the little lines and stuff.
- 5:35Yeah. Can I ask you right?
- 5:37Because what, what was your theories back in the day?
- 5:40Nicole, this you new Doctor Who was not going to die and last
- 5:43beyond series series 6. Did you have any theories about
- 5:46how he was going to survive this season?
- 5:48Like, I don't, particularly remember, I think that I was
- 5:52already on board, moffatt's way of thinking of just like it
- 5:56does, it's probably not going to matter.
- 5:57Just enjoy the ride sort of thing because yet, like
- 6:01Impossible Astronaut and it was already like Doctor, Who's
- 6:04Coming Back for service, seven. I remember that being a thing.
- 6:07So, I'm at Smith was confirmed, so it's just like, well, it's
- 6:10got to be a cheetah, doesn't it? Well, actually, I thought I
- 6:13think they are your thoughts thinking.
- 6:16What he did the gangers. Then he did this a selector and
- 6:18then he did the jewel Amy's in the girl who waited.
- 6:22So he was sort of playing about with all these ideas that could
- 6:25potentially answer. Yeah, question.
- 6:28Unfortunately, I thought the actual answer was very dreary
- 6:31indeed. It's a, I think any answer that
- 6:34was going to come was going to be cheery a little bit.
- 6:37Should you post the question then?
- 6:39No, it's called this. Well actually, that's, that's
- 6:45that's too blunt. It's a good hook, isn't it?
- 6:49It gets people in but like it's always going to be unsatisfying.
- 6:54What? It's not a good hook.
- 6:55Is this pre-title sequence, which is just a series of
- 6:59fucking quirks. See, how Steven Moffat is a very
- 7:03clever, man. No, he's not.
- 7:05It's just annoying, but it's very within the style of this.
- 7:09Say that it's just quirky fun because it it shouldn't be, it
- 7:14shouldn't be but it is a screwball comedy.
- 7:17I mean it's very refreshing, they're out in the sunshine
- 7:19after that first half of the Season.
- 7:21Yeah that is probably why is well someone's watched it back
- 7:25and thought Christ get them out there to figure the doctors
- 7:28green coat. I like you season 5, look.
- 7:32He's I do, but I like this coat. I hate is Series 7.
- 7:36Look where he's tailored. I like that as well.
- 7:39But I understand the criticism that it's just too much like a
- 7:44nerds idea. Right?
- 7:45America's America's watching now?
- 7:47So he's gotta look a bit corny. Yeah, let's talk about males.
- 7:52Let's talk about Mel's. Yeah, because I do believe
- 7:56Steven Moffat is attempting to little gal, Clause here, you
- 7:59know, he's just Realize that it's a bit odd that Amy doesn't
- 8:03want to go after our baby. So it's like, well, I need to
- 8:05give some kind of a reason as to why she ain't gonna do that.
- 8:08So, I'm going to create this character who somehow ended up
- 8:11from America all the way to England as a child and then
- 8:16ended up in leadworth. I grew up with Amy Pond and Rory
- 8:19and turned into River Song. Well, I don't buy it for one
- 8:22second today. It's a shame.
- 8:27How much this is a misfire because It would only take a
- 8:31slight bit of planning, and I think, tell me, Well, if she was
- 8:36in the 11th hour and she was in The Big Bang, if she was in the
- 8:39word, in at the big bang, it would be, we'd all be going.
- 8:42Oh my God, let me, it wouldn't, it wouldn't matter.
- 8:45What happened in? Let's kill, Hitler, never
- 8:47considered that that. That would literally.
- 8:50But the argument, I just gave their that is made up on the
- 8:52spot and it don't make no sense that then would make sense.
- 8:56It wouldn't matter the episode of shit, it was, you'd forget
- 8:59because you just be thinking King of what a revelation and
- 9:04you could go back and watch you at the wedding and think, oh my
- 9:06God, that's River song as a and that if, you know, if you are
- 9:09writing it fully out from beginning to end, that's what
- 9:12you do. Because there's so much Doctor
- 9:14Who's made up on the Fly. It's bad.
- 9:17You know that bit in the wedding.
- 9:18Yeah, we're River song goes past the window and you could have
- 9:22gone to the male's, go past the window at the same time, look
- 9:25out the window and see her. I could have been amazing, they
- 9:29could have had their own little conversation like that.
- 9:32We go back. The possibilities are endless.
- 9:35Yeah, I get it on my entry on my blog entry for, let's kill
- 9:39Hitler. That was like, my main point is
- 9:42that if we just had something a little bit more, it won't be so
- 9:45Random chaotic. Where did this for, when your
- 9:48countdown got here? It's number 95 of.
- 9:54So quite low there, it's fairly low.
- 9:55It's a, it's just one. I have been blink, which came in
- 9:59at 96. Yo, singularly, unique Doctor
- 10:04Who fan art for it, but to be big, but big thing with Bleak
- 10:10was like, I can't find a fault with this, it's Flawless and
- 10:14that's my problem with it. You know, I've been watching
- 10:17recently hit me press gang. I've seen the first couple of
- 10:22episodes. Let me tell you something.
- 10:24Press gang, is Steven Moffat doing character drama for young
- 10:29adults in the Most sophisticated way, yeah, he tells very clever
- 10:36stories. He does a bit of time here.
- 10:38I missed up but obviously it's not time travel so he doesn't he
- 10:41does a lot of clever plotting. Yeah.
- 10:44He basically does what he does with Doctor Who, but he's on the
- 10:47leash, someone is basically saying this is enough.
- 10:52Yeah this is what happens let Killers.
- 10:54What happens when you get godhood syndrome and think you
- 10:59can do absolutely anything with the genius brain that you've got
- 11:04and so you just throw everything at the screen and out some of it
- 11:08sticks. But I think it's very easy to
- 11:10say like, oh it was good under us today because we're still
- 11:14kept The leash. When he's kept on the leash, he
- 11:16could use his Rusty Davis didn't even yeah, apparently didn't.
- 11:23But like to say I was this is what happens to you that Moffat
- 11:26off the leash, we gotta think of what wouldn't have happens.
- 11:29If he wasn't off the leash, there's probably so much genius
- 11:33ideas that ended up being a doctor.
- 11:34So that wouldn't have happened if someone was looking at
- 11:37either. I know, but I would have had to
- 11:39endure this fucking season. Would I be like this?
- 11:44Bit wavy picture, always go. I think that's really funny.
- 11:47Oh actually, we will watch your sodium.
- 11:49Awful is lakhan. Is can't talk.
- 11:51Mark was laughing. His head off at this bit and
- 11:53actually both said at the same time, the bit where she tosses
- 11:57the Tardis toy. So it's quite a stutter.
- 12:00Great special effect isn't. Yeah.
- 12:01It's gorgeous. It's just so I have a bit of an
- 12:04issue of how this looks visually actually this episode, but that
- 12:07is a really good visual. Yes, I could feel their budget
- 12:10in this ever try to recreate Berlin.
- 12:14It just doesn't need to be done, but the fact is just gives it a
- 12:17bit style, doesn't it? And that's the weird thing about
- 12:22wealth. It is he the money and unusual
- 12:24places? Yeah.
- 12:26Yeah, yeah. It's great.
- 12:28We won't make this battle. Win.
- 12:30Demons rum as exciting as possible while a 500 locations
- 12:34and the pre-title sequence. Yeah, it's true.
- 12:39All of this where they're all screaming their heads off in the
- 12:41Tardis, cone crazy. I think it's supposed to be Be
- 12:44funny, but what laughing? Yeah.
- 12:47And and the jokes based around the temple, Grace reference,
- 12:50which only fans would know. Again, it's fallen into that
- 12:54movie. Yeah.
- 12:55Like you can't fire a gun. It felt like it's fallen into
- 12:59that, you know, that's 10 for a little bit here.
- 13:03Oh yeah, Temple Grace is still quite early, on temporal orbit.
- 13:09Okay, here we go. So we're inside the tesselecta
- 13:12now, where we don't know that yet.
- 13:14See you say you said in good man, goes to war that.
- 13:16You have big father's a selector.
- 13:17I just don't really care for it. And I think that that's one of
- 13:20the main problems with the episode this day.
- 13:21It's just a bit of enough idea, to be honest, I find anything
- 13:25worry, shrink people in there inside a bigger person, is a bit
- 13:28naff. Do you know what did this
- 13:29better? This exact concept, but better
- 13:33and funnier. The Sarah, Jane Adventures, the
- 13:37last episode, The Man Who Never Was and you've got these crazy.
- 13:41Like Star Wars SJ, our creatures inside this man and then they
- 13:47are pulling levers and stuff. It is all very steampunk and a
- 13:50bit Kitty friendly. But boy, it's so funny.
- 13:54Yeah, that's what I do. Remember what you want about
- 13:56yet? That would be better if it's
- 13:58something like that but then this reminds me too much of
- 14:00like, what I've seen of Star Trek and stuff.
- 14:03And I'm not a fan of Dark Star Trek out.
- 14:06Yeah. But to be fair, if I say, I
- 14:07don't particularly Star Trek, there's so much of it.
- 14:09I don't even know what bit I'd be talking about.
- 14:13Yeah, this woman, I forget her surname.
- 14:15Now, some ink Kenyan. Her name is Ella Canyon.
- 14:18I think she was in the Catherine Tate Show.
- 14:21Remember, she was in all the sketches where the woman is
- 14:23going, how much chafing this was just have a guests, have a
- 14:27guest, let her particularly watched it.
- 14:29I loved it when she was, very funny and Catherine Tate.
- 14:31And I always said I'd love her to be in dog.
- 14:33True? What a waste.
- 14:37I got it. I do like the little jellyfish
- 14:39things though. I'll give it that, it looks
- 14:42super cheap, their Divinity, but like, as a different sort of
- 14:45monster idea and add that the idea getting Zapped by the
- 14:49jellyfish on that night. Look, have you ever seen this
- 14:51cinematic Masterpiece Shakedown, Return of the sontarans.
- 14:56So when I finish writing my blog, this is that's my next
- 15:00thing is to go through all them weird videos that were released
- 15:04in the At ease and watch them all.
- 15:05But in Shakedown, which had a budget are believe of about 29
- 15:09pounds. Plus Caroline Forbes expenses,
- 15:13there's a Rootin at the end. Karen have all turned into a
- 15:16router and it looks like one of those jellyfish, but it's a
- 15:18video effect of like a jellyfish.
- 15:21It looks better than this. It's done on about a hundredth
- 15:23of the budget. Well, we've had the effect shot,
- 15:26the Tardis fine for the Earth. So I know where their enough
- 15:32this, but you know, why? Because I thought this could be
- 15:34Really creepy the tesselecta coming in and there's a sequence
- 15:37in spirit for space where General scoby goes up to General
- 15:40scoby. Yeah and it's so scary thing
- 15:44that you do but this is just a bit weird down and then this
- 15:49German Soldier and stuff inside this weird set and I'm like what
- 15:53the fuck is going on? It's a bit alternate you can see
- 15:59why people like, including myself that I'm just waiting on
- 16:02board to this your it, what you expected.
- 16:05It's a sort of resolution to, some of the River Song stuff
- 16:07that's just happened. I like it would be a hunt for
- 16:10the baby, the whole where, and some sort of consequence.
- 16:13But obviously Moffitt doesn't like hunts because he sets up
- 16:16gather for a and they don't hunt for that.
- 16:18He sets up the baby and we don't hope so.
- 16:19I walked, did you say very good? I didn't hear what you said.
- 16:27Why I do what I thought? You said.
- 16:28I said he doesn't like hunts. Oh okay.
- 16:32You should go back and listen to our.
- 16:33You said that because I think he does not those.
- 16:37I'm headed. Oh yeah, sorry those that's not
- 16:40what I was watching in a skirt. That's just a little bit to come
- 16:43on. I was watching this and River
- 16:44Song saying Dreadful lines, like, oh, I'm going to wear lots
- 16:47of, lovely jumpers to shock me. Tease, I mean, is I just got you
- 16:51a shout out in my living room, Steven Moffat, will you have a
- 16:55wank before you Ryan please. Yeah, I love it.
- 16:58When people say was right, and with one out and it just makes
- 17:01me laugh, I don't want to be approved because I don't
- 17:08understand, this should be no sex in Doctor Who but it
- 17:12shouldn't be like let she it's so gross sometimes they Buy deal
- 17:17of it like a great idea to say that even if I don't find that
- 17:25particularly funny, Sex is interested.
- 17:28Anyway, but don't, you know, to sort of I'll tell you I'll show
- 17:30you a sexy guy like and it's not you and I have talked about
- 17:33before it's a bit, okay? Rose goes whole, you got no
- 17:37rose. Jackie go.
- 17:39She's got the wine all over you. It's like no.
- 17:41And then she throws the wider world and funny.
- 17:45And it really works, but the doctors say, no, look at Clara
- 17:49National Scout are, you know, it's just, that's weird.
- 17:53That one's weeks, it's not a gag.
- 17:55It's just like, said, I don't know, bit worried snogs Jenny as
- 17:59well. I'll file of that.
- 18:01A lot of that. If you go, thank you.
- 18:03If you listen to a kettle and some string, a defend that's in
- 18:06the earth, they are saying. That is such a great idea for a
- 18:09podcast. I'll never get it.
- 18:10It's so weird, but that's it. Yeah, it stands out from the
- 18:15usual ones. Like that is sure what was
- 18:17called, the doctor who discussion podcast or ringi
- 18:20title that was, you are such an interesting, man.
- 18:23How could you think up a title that Drury when I went in?
- 18:26I thought I want a title that people.
- 18:28If people search Doctor Who podcast it, come on, that's over
- 18:32the ever forgets. I have some a blunt penknife.
- 18:35I know. Well, we changed it to lost on
- 18:38go. I remember initially, I was
- 18:39like, should I eat? This is just very Niche and now,
- 18:43now that Logie that hamster, Emoji than there was a great,
- 18:47great job runs Dental genius but it works.
- 18:55I'll go. Here we go.
- 18:56Okay. So is Hitler.
- 18:59Okay, after I do believe, there is a story to be told here.
- 19:03And that is the BBC novel The Shadow in the glass, which tells
- 19:07a gripping story of the doctor meeting Hitler.
- 19:11This. However, again, it's another one
- 19:15of the things that like I get it but I don't know, like I get it,
- 19:20it's almost sound like a so repugnant when I asked about
- 19:24him. Like, there's no reason to even
- 19:26mention him, just put him in the covers.
- 19:28But if you're going to do that, why you doing it in the first
- 19:31place? Exactly.
- 19:33And you know, like, but the impression I got was, you know,
- 19:36it was like, because team of it is so smug.
- 19:38As I'll solve Z takes the piss out of everything.
- 19:41It's like, oh ha ha. He cast a load of Jews and in a
- 19:45shower. Let's put him in the car, but he
- 19:48didn't say that. She
- 20:01is the best way to describe this.
- 20:10Is it. Like what else to say suddenly
- 20:13between a good man, and let's kill Hitler, whether it's cause
- 20:16he's having some PTSD over losing his daughter.
- 20:19Rory's just becomes this amazing character in that into it.
- 20:23I framed it for me one hour. He's brilliant.
- 20:26And yeah, and I also know, Rory should want to go after the
- 20:29baby. Absolutely would as the baby's
- 20:32father, but I just can't buy a me after this episode.
- 20:35I just can't believe her as a character because I just don't
- 20:39believe that she'd go on tonight.
- 20:41Errors. Which is a story about children.
- 20:44Yeah, just be like Doctor Who fan again.
- 20:48It's yeah. Again it's I didn't think about
- 20:51it. When I was watching at the time
- 20:53as an absolute, most Luke good one originally the curse of the
- 20:58black spot was supposed to come after this one.
- 21:00I know that's 56 episodes on the truck I didn't like to be honest
- 21:06day. There's not an in-between
- 21:07cursing night terrors, I think that both coughing the door.
- 21:11Is a pretty creepy. They are by context of pretty
- 21:14Dreadful story. So yeah, I mean, if another love
- 21:18conquers all ending Daddy Daddy. Yeah.
- 21:21I think flight fantasy picks up on a really good thing that I
- 21:24had never thought about, which was the so many of these
- 21:27episodes about dads and Sons, aren't they?
- 21:29And then you've got the mother and daughter a lot about them, a
- 21:33parent-child relationship. And that's probably another
- 21:35reason, as well as just the blatant darkness of Y.
- 21:39So he six feels quite repetitive all the way through.
- 21:41Ooh, it is one thing, you know, and you probably disagree with
- 21:44this, I don't really think Mafia gets Family Life convincingly
- 21:49portrayed on screen. Yeah, I think Rusty Davis.
- 21:52Does it all the time? Yeah, he gets the dysfunctional,
- 21:55family, perfect. In things like, Smith and Jones,
- 21:58and the Tyler's, and boys, Donna and Sylvia, I mean, that's, you
- 22:05know, that's probably why he runs away from it after this
- 22:08day, just a, he's tried to ignore best it.
- 22:11Probably a child it. And maybe it's not always the
- 22:14most comfortable and so he just sucks it off.
- 22:16By the time clock comes along the bill.
- 22:18We don't really have families the so I need anything.
- 22:23Excuse me. Don't you remember?
- 22:24Grand epic run. She turns up the shooter rude.
- 22:29Man. You could have made a meal out
- 22:30of there cause she's a brilliant actress but he's not interested.
- 22:33Is it the science team? Yeah, he's a shame I'll do and
- 22:38you know what you say? You will about chip.
- 22:42No, I really liked both your houses and Dan's family are for
- 22:46dad's. Mom and dad were fabulous.
- 22:54They had no effect that Dan's a little bit more.
- 22:57But yeah, this is family if you took them out I don't think
- 23:00anybody saw anything. Dan's family.
- 23:03I've got more affection for because the scouts and they were
- 23:06fully just a bit bummed when he goes.
- 23:10Oh yeah, I'll sit this. And she goes, you never forget
- 23:13this. I'm so glad this is not being a
- 23:17Christmas with my family right now.
- 23:21Yeah yeah, yeah. Is it, she says, where do you
- 23:25love? You be Beyonce?
- 23:27Yeah, let's kill Hitler. Yeah, so Mel's is just
- 23:34regenerated into River song. Oh my God, the big twist.
- 23:38Yeah. Is it I can't remember because
- 23:41it like, was that an actual twist, or did you know?
- 23:44I was surprised. Yeah, okay.
- 23:46Was, you know, I can't remember, I think at this point, I was
- 23:50already so cringe that out and like, oh my god, well, They
- 23:53send, please. I think it with this is where it
- 23:58falls off a cliff. Well, I actually I say that I
- 24:01really like this. Silly see now where it gets a
- 24:03bit Sherlock e and then like the attractive been out within each
- 24:06other in the background. So, we like swaps the gum for a
- 24:09banana. Oh, this is the bit where Mark
- 24:11said, he hated it because he doesn't like any of that.
- 24:14It's the, I quite like this. But you know what?
- 24:16I don't think, Alex Kingston can pull this off, this stuff.
- 24:20I don't just not natural to her. It's who here?
- 24:24Is it to anyone? Like I said, I do think she can
- 24:30deliver brilliantly. Yeah, but you've got later they
- 24:36act as strengths, right. Yeah, I think.
- 24:41I mean, yeah, when I watch this first, I just found it a bit,
- 24:44embarrassing, the nameless. And now I just try and look at
- 24:47it and go, right? It's riddled with problems.
- 24:49Let's just try enough it fun with it.
- 24:51Well like sort of in the terms of the Season, what they are
- 24:54trying to do is hunt I'll spell it out to you know, this you
- 24:56seen the season, but they're trying to show that rivers and
- 25:00assassin because that's important to the season and
- 25:04redeem her within the same episode.
- 25:06So it has a function. Yeah, but it's it's just a whole
- 25:10journey. It's just so smug and over
- 25:13complicated. I think that lets it down.
- 25:15Is that like the the answers that's a river song.
- 25:18Should have been a big important thing and they're just tossed
- 25:21away in this like silly comedy episode.
- 25:26Which isn't funny. Okay?
- 25:28Yeah, which isn't his best. Usually the prerequisite of a
- 25:32comedy is it makes you laugh? Whereas I have my sick, bucket
- 25:37out the old time. Also, like, what doesn't make
- 25:41sense about the Assassin thing is that, like, she's being
- 25:44trained to be an assassin, but then it's the suit that shoots.
- 25:48Anyway. So she gets put in the soup of
- 25:50the suit. Is it shot had this chill?
- 25:53You know, you're pulling at the quilt is starting.
- 25:55Oh, I know. I think like put Also was like
- 26:00scene-by-scene. And sorry.
- 26:04Again, like in this, this story from this point is about to
- 26:08hinge on the fact that the doctors going to die in half an
- 26:11hour when it's like, the fucking season Arc is that he's died at
- 26:14your hands. That's the next one.
- 26:19We've already fucking scene in the first story.
- 26:21Yeah. So, you know he's not going to.
- 26:23So then it's like there. We've got our CGI Berlin in the
- 26:28back pound. Now, do you remember in the girl
- 26:30in the fireplace where he just looks out the window?
- 26:33Rinette's bedroom and you see the snow going past and that's
- 26:36and it's beautiful. You always have that in
- 26:38comparison. Honestly, you always forget how
- 26:41good that's the innocent girl in the fireplace.
- 26:44But I doubt that that effect is just a great execution of the
- 26:47girl in the fireplace and uracil in Mad can do no wrong.
- 26:50Yeah, he's just so good. It had just like giving him the
- 26:56slightest kiss and in dying does make you question why I like the
- 27:01master or doubt for us or Snow geese, gave up split said in
- 27:05just give him a kiss. Just see, a lie and Peter
- 27:08Davison going at it, you know, on the cricket pitch or I've
- 27:14been calling Baker. Yes, although it does make you
- 27:19wonder why he falls in love with her after this till it.
- 27:22I just tried to kill him. Well, Matt Smith has got that
- 27:26most doctors got nothing. Really gets obsessed with the
- 27:29mystery about someone that's nice.
- 27:30So I think it's never love, is it?
- 27:33The doctor never loves that. I don't think this is why I went
- 27:36doing the wedding of river song where they get married.
- 27:39And after that, they like, they suggest that this has been a
- 27:42proper relationship. And yeah, like it's a mariachi
- 27:44things, convenient since no. But so let's thank God.
- 27:49I'll look for later Scrappy from this saint.
- 27:51Okay. Well, it's funny because I was
- 27:53just writing my article on girl in the fireplace tonight and I
- 27:57just can't say that it's not out.
- 28:01Yeah, it's quite, it's quite far ahead.
- 28:03It's quite far ahead, but my problem with that one is that I
- 28:08don't buy into that. Love story at all, and it's the
- 28:12same problem here is that, it's a lust story, they lost through
- 28:17each other, but it's not love, but then it's sold, there's a
- 28:19lot of story and that's my issue with it and the River Song.
- 28:22Okay, do so to me, when he was on this doing Silence of library
- 28:25for us to the dead, he goes, you know, I have things to do in
- 28:27life is a great writer and know that I and II, but he does have
- 28:31issues and he goes, but I I would like to go back in time
- 28:35and strangle. The person that gave him the
- 28:37copy of The Time Traveler's Wife.
- 28:38That's a good point. Yeah, I haven't seen that that
- 28:44the one he did but I quite like to check it out.
- 28:47He's weird rules about regeneration as well.
- 28:50You can just sort of give people all your life energy and then
- 28:53you can't regenerate, he's just making this shit up as he goes
- 28:56along, he's a writer Joe. Like there aren't Okay.
- 29:03No, but actually to give the exemption here, we don't know
- 29:06that Wheels about River because she's this, we have baby that
- 29:09was conceived in the vortex and all that so mutation time baby.
- 29:14Yeah. So we don't know.
- 29:16That's, that's a bit of a weird foreshadowing when hot punch it
- 29:21up C again, he's so cool. And this, and I love this bit
- 29:25with these two on the bike, and she's got her head over his
- 29:28shoulder. Like, I do believe them as a
- 29:30couple. Yeah.
- 29:31It's from this point. That you totally believed them
- 29:34as a couple. I think I'm always goes.
- 29:37Yeah, it's code. Unfortunate, does not get any
- 29:38better because we've got experience.
- 29:40Matt, Smith's are pulling, I'm done saying, come on.
- 29:44Oh, it's just what he's spasming all over.
- 29:47The SEC, really in C. So interesting to watch.
- 29:51Yeah, right in day of the moon or something.
- 29:55Amy makes a joke about the baby going to have a Time head and
- 29:59I'm not. That's true.
- 30:00Um, in Sylvester McCoy lad with mats.
- 30:03If and I'll do think, of course, you can ask, he can act.
- 30:08So I'm trying to convince was not fair, but I never know from
- 30:11scene to scene, what I'm going to get and sometimes it's great,
- 30:14and sometimes it's really appalling like that.
- 30:18Bitten nightmare in silver, where he's up against himself.
- 30:22Oh, I made. So again, on the blog, I made
- 30:26the call it. The I just don't have a clue if
- 30:29the, the actors in nightmare in silver.
- 30:32It's the best or the worst. Worst acting I've ever seen I
- 30:35just don't know when he does the Quest for excellence impression.
- 30:38It's someone else but you're right.
- 30:43He is an interesting for me. Yes.
- 30:44And I wouldn't deny that and I do think that is best.
- 30:47He's brilliant. I his season five performances
- 30:50are top dollar. I love him in Amy's Choice.
- 30:55Obviously the whole season and put the look goes with him in
- 30:58that season. He's got the rough her in the
- 30:59battered jacket. It also suits when he gets the
- 31:02straight. Jackets here so he succeeded and
- 31:05the straighter hair then the image is just slightly.
- 31:08Not yeah, although like we did love him in rings of akhaten
- 31:11didn't way where he was very sweet it.
- 31:13Now I said, that's one of my favorite doctor.
- 31:15Performances of all time in. Actually, I love the bit.
- 31:18Were sitting there trying to sing that Dreadful song.
- 31:21Yeah, with the glasses on and then slightly shy to tell Chloe.
- 31:24What's going on? Of course, incorrect.
- 31:38Come on. Joe, wake up.
- 31:44Any any scene with little Amelia Pond is billions.
- 31:49No, no, yes, because what it should be, but she just stands
- 31:56there saying the same thing 15 times, you're going to die a
- 31:59little, you're gonna do well and it's still this big.
- 32:03When he says fish fingers and custard poetry Joe small.
- 32:06But perfectly marvelous is, we saw Rose, Tyler, Martha Jones,
- 32:10and and Donna, Noble, and know a good reminder, of when Doctor
- 32:13Who was really good. Hey, say them out of them, three
- 32:22and Amy who should least favorite What those three and
- 32:28Amy is it away. Now those three are my favorites
- 32:34and then on it and then I like Graham after that.
- 32:37Oh no then I built and then a light gram mass is so boring but
- 32:43but you know, that's my of rock. That's his favorite.
- 32:46You know what? Stage Marth is so boy, but she
- 32:48possibly has my favorite companion moment of all time
- 32:52which is but with 15 satellites. And Every time the chills just
- 32:57come right through the, it is amazing.
- 33:00She's also got the one of the worst parents ever.
- 33:03What's that? You ready?
- 33:07Yeah. God doctor, I'm bringing you
- 33:10back to Earth but then, that would be a meal for any actor.
- 33:17I'm telling you, oh, look now look, we were talking about this
- 33:22because Mark used to live in Cardiff and this is the
- 33:25temperature. Peace here.
- 33:27Oh yeah. Has previously been but for one
- 33:31into the world and where the Salah is did their negotiations
- 33:35in the to par in the previous season and I said this was a
- 33:40really confident show. The doctor could go.
- 33:42Yeah this reminds me of satellite five.
- 33:45Yeah. And just sort of hang a lantern
- 33:47on it but otherwise it just seems like they keep going to
- 33:50the same place. Yeah that's like Nicola Bryant
- 33:53when she would drop in all these.
- 33:55Kono's look the same. I don't want to suggest that a
- 33:59me. So I can and Killers or a good
- 34:01actress but that moment there where she was on the bike as the
- 34:05robot turning her head around. Well, I thought that was
- 34:08absolutely phenomenal. Well, I'm being serious, she
- 34:11doesn't really wear. He said that sounds so really
- 34:14creepy head turn, right? So, it's moments like this.
- 34:17When you just think who's going to enjoy that?
- 34:20Like this is meant to be you think it's going to be fairly
- 34:24serious? How?
- 34:25Besides just pissing about giant clothes or and then like it's
- 34:29meant to be Nazis, are our demands to be getting answers to
- 34:32the whole River Song are all the women come running out in their
- 34:35bras and knickers and I'm like, have a wank Moffitt by God.
- 34:40See Moffat does commonly subvert things in his stories like it?
- 34:46He is the master subversion and try to uproot your audience and
- 34:51trying to like surprise you. I think this is the first time
- 34:54he gets it really wrong. Everyone's going into this
- 34:56expecting a good story with answers about Hitler and he's
- 35:00subverts, it makes it comedy about nothing and it's everybody
- 35:04just Falls really flat. I'd say that about the wedding
- 35:08of river song as well, and I think that's where people's
- 35:10patience really started wearing thin.
- 35:13And I like the end of that seat at the end of the wedding River
- 35:16song. I think people like okay, thank
- 35:18God, that's over. If we can.
- 35:20Yeah it was then they got dr. Widow and the Wardrobe.
- 35:24It was more of a relief thing was living in isolation.
- 35:28So actually this applies also six when you put it on I think
- 35:33it's too bad or to boggy but before you put it on There's
- 35:36this element of our can't watch like Siri 6 or can touch the
- 35:40Wind River Song because it's just so bogged down stuff, but
- 35:42you put it on any the patient sort of goes by and it's not as
- 35:46bad as you think, but it definitely has this feeling
- 35:49really bogged down and things we do.
- 35:51Think that about modern TV, that is a thing.
- 35:54Is it loses? Some of its re washability
- 35:57because when you know where the shocks and every shows are based
- 36:00now with, you know, twist throughout the season to keep
- 36:03you going when, you know, the twist just Like, I don't really
- 36:07want to dive into that season. Again, I've got much more than
- 36:11TV also, watch out dr. Rose because they're all
- 36:14self-contained stories, a lot of Fatiha.
- 36:17Or maybe I'm just an old fossil. No, I get where you're coming
- 36:21from, though. It's hard stuff.
- 36:23The same. This is where Doctor Who starts
- 36:26the question. Hidden in plain sight.
- 36:29This is the apotheosis of him being obsessed with the doctor
- 36:33in it. Yeah, a little bit, but this is
- 36:35a problem, though, isn't it? Like before we've even sorted
- 36:38out, what's going on with River song?
- 36:40We're Now setting up the next batch of mystery.
- 36:44So we got the silence. So we got the The question and
- 36:48now we've got trenzalore but it's about to come out anyway.
- 36:51It can we the Sonic cane? I'm curious.
- 36:55It looks like I can't believe this cane never came back.
- 36:59It's great. He looks Napa, but he does just
- 37:01start sort of falling about all over the set and I'm like, what
- 37:05am I watching have seen? How did we go from fabulous,
- 37:09David Tennant at his high to this nonsense, you know?
- 37:14I think something I've never clicked before, but you've said
- 37:18and you're right, it's that there is an element of cheapness
- 37:21to this episode. It does feel a bit cheap, which
- 37:25is strange, when I play to come back, isn't it?
- 37:28It started on The Impossible Astronaut which seemed ethic and
- 37:32big and gorgeous. And in fact, I think there's a
- 37:35bit of cheapness for route 6B because I don't think night
- 37:40terrors feels particularly expensive.
- 37:42The girl who waited doesn't, that's just why.
- 37:44It's even when it is in that hotel, that doesn't feel very
- 37:49expensive when the River Song might have some effects in it,
- 37:52but it doesn't. It's not a few sets, isn't it?
- 37:56It's not I know you don't like it.
- 37:58I know you're not as keen on it as me, but I will say though,
- 38:02like even in the darkest moments of dogs who and I like a lot of
- 38:06this, like the doctor's Wife for me, that is pure what I want.
- 38:11Doctor Who to be just quirky and funny and clever and emotional,
- 38:16and Visually beautiful, like, they could still knock it out of
- 38:20the park. It's again, I probably probably
- 38:24the doctor's wife is again, not buying into the relationship.
- 38:28If the Tardis and the doctor don't get it.
- 38:31I just don't get that. That exchange where she goes,
- 38:34where he goes, you never took me awhile, wanted to go, but I
- 38:37always took you where You needed to be.
- 38:39Yeah, this some lovely lines like that.
- 38:42But then like the payoff where she can't think of the word that
- 38:45she's wanted to say to him, it's hello.
- 38:47And he's, like, born as eyes. I'm like, that doesn't do
- 38:51anyone? No soul Malloy.
- 38:53No, that is so nice to me. Like, that's just, not very
- 38:57good. But there's some lovely eyes.
- 39:01I love the pull to open stuff as well.
- 39:03It's great. I just I love the setting.
- 39:06I think it's beautifully. Realize that episode well, and
- 39:10also, the time is great to see. Am corridors done, right?
- 39:14Because the next season we'd see them done.
- 39:16Oh, so very wrong. Are you talking about Journey to
- 39:18the Centre of the TARDIS way to perhaps you could ask a question
- 39:22for me. Why did that man who fought he
- 39:26was? An Android wasn't an Android.
- 39:30Why did he never have a poo? Or if he did have a pool, which
- 39:36most normal people do? Why did he not think well, I'm
- 39:39an Android. What am I going to do?
- 39:42Is it so dark in the fact that some people can be?
- 39:47So brainwashed, that even the most obvious things get missed,
- 39:53but I think it was just a terrible twist.
- 39:55Oh yeah. Me too, I just got my mind, you
- 40:02know, I started in stories, but people will ignore the
- 40:05absolutely obvious if the brainwashed enough Yeah, that is
- 40:10true. Yeah I think I know I think I've
- 40:12seen that you know, in relationships and things.
- 40:15Yeah, exactly. Unknown.
- 40:19They are say that Karen Gillan looks, absolutely beautiful.
- 40:22There doesn't she? Yeah.
- 40:24She's banging the whole time. I mean, that's a 14, 15
- 40:28year-old. She was like, the desire is she
- 40:31the most bankable new series companion?
- 40:34Oh, yeah. Because she's a slut character
- 40:36as well. It is true of the new series.
- 40:44Who is it Ryan Sinclair without doubt?
- 40:47You dare, don't you dare? I do terrible things.
- 40:50I'll be just like, King James, my Nubian, Princess.
- 40:55Hey, Amy is the most loyal companion of all time, I'd say
- 41:00up there with, do, do babies. I mean, Ryan could like a
- 41:04beautiful. Oh, dear.
- 41:09Oh God. Okay let's put it wherever songs
- 41:11Grissom said acting is so terrible.
- 41:15I was guys. You do you can see Alex,
- 41:17Kingston go, what's happened? I was in the ER once what
- 41:19happened to my career, it just seems a bit odd.
- 41:23So like it feels a bit of a waste to explain the majority of
- 41:28the basis of their character in this weird.
- 41:33The series opener mid so is over.
- 41:35I think you absolutely spot on he's trying to subvert
- 41:38expectations. And that is usually a good
- 41:41thing. Yeah.
- 41:42And as usually works for, when he does it with Cliffhangers, I
- 41:45love it when he's like, right, we're going to India and then
- 41:48we're going to pick up the story somewhere else.
- 41:50No one's going to suspect that he does it over and over again
- 41:52and every time I'm like well what the hell's going on?
- 41:54Will ya there? But yeah, I got a question for
- 41:58you about the River Song, big finish audios.
- 42:02We're talking about with the song failing, dismally, on the
- 42:05screen at the moment. Do you believe that she succeeds
- 42:08in these audios? I've only had a few and I think
- 42:13they're fine, but today think it's a big finish.
- 42:19It's easier to get it right. I think the the don't Some big
- 42:26finishes that people can Rave about.
- 42:29I just because you don't come under criticism, really didn't
- 42:32get re-watch, the don't get massive load of different
- 42:34opinions on them. So don't come with the same
- 42:36criticisms and episodes operators, and, and they have to
- 42:40stick with any get five comments on Gallifrey, Bass Pro release
- 42:43these days. Yeah.
- 42:44Well, because there's so many of them being like all the time.
- 42:48So I won't. So I think it's very easy to go
- 42:53out. Yeah, big finish to the right
- 42:55but like big finish only Took what's already here?
- 43:01It's, she goes a bit off the rails in Series 6, but largely,
- 43:04she's a really good character, joyful.
- 43:07The difference is, is obviously be finishes, not written by
- 43:10Steven Moffat here. Yeah, so the better writers like
- 43:14John dawnie Jonathan Morris. I Jonathan Morris that wrote the
- 43:17one where River Song and Missy come together, right?
- 43:21It's fucking Sublime is just amazingly good and it lacks the
- 43:26smugness. It likes the.
- 43:29I am so clever dialogue and it's just clever dialogue and she
- 43:34really works. You respond asking some response
- 43:36to it. Really well.
- 43:38Yeah I can imagine the key difference is that the doctors
- 43:41not the because on the TV show, she largely talks about the
- 43:45doctor which makes sense but in their own.
- 43:49Anyways, another complaint about the character though is me is
- 43:51that she is just like she doesn't really exist in her own.
- 43:56My character is as I could Buffy's obsessed with the docks.
- 44:01Nice the character who's Steven Moffat is wish list.
- 44:06Try still trying to write Linda day from press gag.
- 44:09Well that was his that was his best success as a female
- 44:12protagonist. And ever since he's never talked
- 44:15it, and he's tried and tried and tried.
- 44:17Amy Pond. All of them and none of them are
- 44:21as good Julius, what beer is. Linda day is just brilliant.
- 44:25Amy Pond said, really carrots. You're great.
- 44:32Look how cheap those jellyfish. Look, what's up?
- 44:34Fairly fish there and she goes, I love you as if this is how
- 44:39they're going to die. What an embarrassing way to die.
- 44:44How did I say? Just because I've never seen the
- 44:52Tardis shrink into a it doesn't shrink does.
- 44:55It also has again yeah. Well that's new.
- 44:58You were watching this at the worst time ever, you know 14?
- 45:01Did you say yeah that critically that time where you've just
- 45:04suddenly decide to develop critical faculties.
- 45:07And so everything is the worst thing ever, you know, and you
- 45:10want it to be dark. So like as might have enjoyed
- 45:14the good of my ghosts or but this was just the worst thing
- 45:18you could have put in front of my eyes.
- 45:21This your least favorite the season, then.
- 45:26At the time. It definitely would be.
- 45:27It won't be no night. Terrors is probably my least
- 45:29favorite color. So the Black sport.
- 45:32Oh God! No sorry.
- 45:34No! No Rebel flesh, almost people.
- 45:37Oh no! Wait, we're doing old buddy,
- 45:39seasoned. I think a rebel flesh is better
- 45:41than both night terrors and certain curse.
- 45:45I listened to my commentary can go, I'll tell you where, but
- 45:49you're not where you're wrong, but where our opinions vary, I
- 45:53think the wedding of River Song is better than this.
- 45:55It's a bit more exciting and a bit more varied.
- 45:58See you? Again at the end of the season,
- 46:00that's why you must achieve before.
- 46:01I don't like dogs who go into areas where they're killing
- 46:03babies, killing companions, Amy kills, Madame kovarian, are you
- 46:07going to say that's really cool, but I think we should be in a
- 46:09place where their companions killing off the villains, like I
- 46:12thought work for me. Me.
- 46:16It does work for me. I think the I think the doctor
- 46:19should kill off more Village occasion there should there
- 46:22should have been a better way. Luke the doctor is so much more
- 46:27interesting when he will do the odd little kill and when he's
- 46:30not being such a moral high horse man and plus it's a
- 46:36alternate reality isn't it? So it's my sort of preferred way
- 46:41of doing this or dark. Doctor thing is the end of
- 46:44family. Not where he can fuck, you know,
- 46:47he sends them off into mirrors and eternal chains and black
- 46:51holes and things like that. It's probably the best it's ever
- 46:54been done so good. That the end of the conveyor, a
- 46:57nice story. That was that little Thomas
- 47:01Sangster is voice one. That deep was it but it makes
- 47:04him so powerful. Hey, the fact you can put
- 47:07someone in a mirror. It's up to the most powerful
- 47:10thing I've ever. Well no because from the bat two
- 47:13years every time I looked a little bit era of waiting to say
- 47:16that little girl behind me with a little blue.
- 47:22I've got to say I think I have softened on Amy Pond over time
- 47:25because I like I said, I do really really like her and
- 47:28Series 7. A I really dislike her in series
- 47:325 my favorite her and Rory that relationship is toxic in series,
- 47:38ha. Yeah, for as I say, I wasn't I
- 47:41wasn't bothered about worried so he's five.
- 47:43So for me I'm just watching like Really sexy people go around and
- 47:47the unit's together, whoo-hoo like a flirting with each other,
- 47:51with great stories, and a great Arc, and it's just brilliant.
- 47:56Oh, but you know what her I remember I was really pissed at
- 48:00the end of vampires of Venice when she's like, oh, I've got my
- 48:03boys and she's little and of off against each other, all right?
- 48:06And I really had this Dreadful reaction to it and then I
- 48:09realized why. At the time I was in a
- 48:12polygamous relationship seeing two people And it was fucking
- 48:15Agony. I'll tell you.
- 48:17So I was like, okay, it's on the primary, it's not a me poems,
- 48:21it's me. Lazy one man's old enough,
- 48:24pleasing twos or near impossible.
- 48:27Wow, that's interesting, even an interesting life.
- 48:30Joe happiest, free markets are fair.
- 48:33You know, over with a man in Colombia, it's him or probably
- 48:38off. But cast me off downstairs as
- 48:41well. Be careful.
- 48:45Sorry, back to let the rivers with his sacrifice and all the
- 48:48Regeneration is to bring the doctor back to life.
- 48:51The conclusion, we've drawn to here is my love life is far more
- 48:54interested in. Let's kill Hitler, it's a means
- 48:58to an end, but certainly as a very chaste kiss arriving there,
- 49:02it could have been done so much better.
- 49:05These these Revelations and thus it's the one time is, subversion
- 49:09hasn't paid off. I think is the conclusion or
- 49:12sort of coming to but I think is it's a Tonally.
- 49:16It's ill-judged, I narratively. You're right, isil judged and
- 49:22it's another doctor is dead plot line.
- 49:24It should be like this is the sort of character stuff as well.
- 49:27The rusty Davis would Ace he'd make you feel all these moments.
- 49:31Yeah. Kind of going or what's
- 49:33happening. He's giving him all the
- 49:36Regeneration energy and he's alive even though we knew he was
- 49:39going to die on the beach and what's happening?
- 49:41Yeah. I mean it is it is fun.
- 49:45It's you know it's quite fun and it is a bit unique, it Spacey.
- 49:48It's yeah, it's definitely good enough.
- 49:51It's watchable, it's got the regulars, you know.
- 49:54Are giving good performances. Yeah.
- 49:57You know, half the problem is, is that Paul Steven Moffat, who
- 50:02is an exceptional writer at its best?
- 50:05Like, I still think stuff like empty, child, doctor, dances
- 50:10silence, and I before I said, are some of the best doctor
- 50:12here, there is He's he's always lumbered in his own ERA with
- 50:16right in the season beginners and the season Enders and this
- 50:21year. He's lumbered with that twice
- 50:23over because he's got a next year, Karen's, when he finally
- 50:27comes to series I and the next episode, we're going to talk
- 50:30about listen. Make gotta write a mid season
- 50:34story where he just got a fucking write a story.
- 50:37Hmm. That wasn't really our bases, a
- 50:39few bits in it but it's just a story in its own, right?
- 50:44That shows you what you can really do as a writer when he's
- 50:46not lumbered with all this nonsense.
- 50:48Yeah. And he said that self didn't, he
- 50:50said when he was going into capella Sera, he just wants to
- 50:54do that. Weird experimental episode
- 50:55again. Yeah.
- 50:57And what I'd like to know what I think is best script is for
- 51:02dogs. Who God one after time, in the
- 51:06doctor falls. So there's definitely up there
- 51:10and I think he manages to marry doing the end of the season and
- 51:15telling a standalone story and so many elements.
- 51:19Brilliant set pieces more great lines and you can shake a stick
- 51:23at, you know, like giving people performance pieces.
- 51:27Yeah, and ins for so many characters.
- 51:31It's from believe, I recorded a commentary on forgot to press
- 51:34record honestly. I think like as a standalone
- 51:40piece for me it has got to be having sent this to know if it's
- 51:44that is that's a beautiful piece of writing as well but she I
- 51:47think it's a beautiful piece of TV though.
- 51:49Like it did. Yeah.
- 51:50That's the whole, the whole creation is.
- 51:54It's very interesting that Russell Davis has looked over
- 51:56his shoulder and gone. Yeah, that Rachel took me lay
- 51:59and that Mark tonderai their freak directors.
- 52:02I'm going to love them for my secrets.
- 52:04Yeah, yeah right sorry, we're getting a trailer.
- 52:08For night terrors now. And I think after watching,
- 52:10let's kill Hitler. The last thing that either was
- 52:12the trailer for this episode. It's just, it looks this for
- 52:18again. Yeah, it wasn't great.
- 52:21Was it? No.
- 52:22Okay, Master. This was it, the girl who I is.
- 52:25Yeah. Which I got such an interesting
- 52:28story like that, but I'll save it for the blog as a tease and
- 52:31be out in about three months time.
- 52:33I'm so on the fence with that one because I think it hits.
- 52:38Emotionally when it needs to. But as a lot of longer stretches
- 52:41of fucka whitening, does that rank?
- 52:46Why? Hang on?
- 52:47You said when you get to it that means it is higher because your
- 52:50yeah, its way into your list. Yeah, we're fifty or sixty one.
- 52:54I think was 61 out tonight. You know what?
- 52:57You know what number 60 was. So bang in the middle, we are no
- 53:00have 120. It's your fucking like this.
- 53:03Yeah, the return of doctor Mysterio.
- 53:06I don't mind. That's all you know.
- 53:07Not good. I think there's two back-to-back
- 53:10House, Husbands of River Song and the return of doctor
- 53:13Mysterio. That's when Capaldi, finally,
- 53:16finally, absolutely gets comfortable with that role.
- 53:19Yeah, said that as well. I said that, I said that you
- 53:23finally watching him just have fun in the roll.
- 53:26It's a bit worried seen the snow outside.
- 53:28The Tardis, you know what's great about that is that he's
- 53:33talking to his husband's River Song.
- 53:35The, that's great that because But episodes and episodes we've
- 53:40seen this tortured Capaldi's doctor there's just like
- 53:44destroyed or crying or so. And then suddenly on Christmas
- 53:47day, is just laughing about a head in a bag on the floor.
- 53:49And you just like, oh, thank God.
- 53:51He's just having a laugh. Again, although I do, I will say
- 53:54my favorite Christmas special is Last Christmas.
- 53:57I think is a door that episode, The get out of the car, only
- 54:01ones hundreds of cost and it. Oh, that's.
- 54:04Are you mad is base Under Siege monsters like Do you like Doctor
- 54:08Who it's beautiful? Poetry.
- 54:11Well, look, we better. Do, free fabulous, things about.
- 54:14Let's kill Hitler, that's going to be an old, but and I can drag
- 54:17him up here. We can do listen.
- 54:19Yes. Okay, my number one, then I so
- 54:24moffatt's. Got himself in this situation.
- 54:27Fraught with this story. Are at the beginning of let's
- 54:29kill Hitler. So based on that, I think that,
- 54:32what we named our daughter after our daughter it's quite a fun
- 54:36and kooky idea. And if, if we'd see males
- 54:40before, if she'd have been established as a background
- 54:43character, or like Rivard winked at her at the wedding or
- 54:46something, we'd have lost them - the way.
- 54:49Absolutely governmental, and it be remembered as one of the
- 54:52craziest twists in Doctor Who as it is.
- 54:56And then after four. Yeah, that's it, is, it's a
- 54:59kooky half based afterthought and it is a shame.
- 55:02As I say, with the way, the shows just made because if you
- 55:05had all the time in the world, you would go back and writer
- 55:08into the big bag of Rio into the on fire, but obviously TV's not
- 55:12like that. Okay.
- 55:14Well, sort of half-assed compliment, but we'll take.
- 55:18It was a good. A good idea, is it?
- 55:20Okay? And so I'm gonna say this is
- 55:23tough. Like I said the idea of the
- 55:25tesselecta I do like and I like the idea appealed little people
- 55:30inside a person, controlling, their also has done amazingly
- 55:34well and I do like the effect of like the paths of the selector
- 55:39changing from person to person but just on the person.
- 55:47Oh yeah, I think of you say, you know.
- 55:48Yeah. With the window the tiles.
- 55:51I think it's called it flips. The second one would be Matt,
- 55:55Smith's performance as much as we disagree.
- 55:59Yeah, like him dying. It does somehow sell it to me.
- 56:03Even though the story arc, is he dies at the beach and like, I do
- 56:09genuinely feel for him when he's like, it looks genuinely grave,
- 56:12even though everything in your mind is Tanya, it's obviously
- 56:16not, he's obviously not going to die.
- 56:19Yeah, and I think he looks great.
- 56:22All Epson. He's got two different outfits.
- 56:24He looks great. I'm getting desperate now.
- 56:28So I'm going to say the Snatch. I don't eat marigolds music.
- 56:34Isn't that great in this? But I think the bit at the
- 56:37beginning where males is established and we go through
- 56:41their childhood music. So gently and really lovely and
- 56:45sunny. I love that bit of music, right?
- 56:47You're next for all the comedy that doesn't work in the
- 56:51episode. I do really like the scene where
- 56:53it's a bit shit. Lucky and the doctor in with
- 56:56outwitted each other in the background of what's been going
- 57:00on. So he like turns the fruit bowl.
- 57:02And the bananas, the gun. Our, he runs over to the chair
- 57:05and unloads the bullets and stuff either.
- 57:06I think that's quite just kooky for.
- 57:10And finally, I like Arthur darvill and Joe, or even when
- 57:16he's not doing amazing things. He does get to punch a Nazi and
- 57:20that is fun. Yes, Joel hardest, I've had to
- 57:25scrape to find things. Yeah, you can tell you're
- 57:29usually quite like full of Praise perfect and your final
- 57:35point was Arthur darvill in general.
- 57:40I was desperate. All right well Luke you and I
- 57:45are now going to skip across to the Peter Capaldi era.
- 57:49Oh yeah for what I consider to be the most labyrinthine script
- 57:54since Ghostlight. Oh good.
- 57:57Yeah it's definitely the most inventive piece of writing had
- 58:01seen on TV. He for a long while, it's like
- 58:05this. You if I went into my bedroom
- 58:07and saw some something with a blanket over his head, I'd never
- 58:12go to sleep ever again. Well gets to it.
- 58:15It's, but I'll save ya.
