- 1:36All right, Curtis McCollum, welcome to Beyond Fulfillment.
- 1:40Hey Dave, man, thank you for having me today.
- 1:43I know, I really appreciate you.
- 1:45We basically was able to get together and kind of share my story and share something with your.
- 1:50With your audience that hopefully that will actually help them move to the next level.
- 1:56Absolutely.
- 1:57Yeah.
- 1:57We're excited to have you here.
- 1:58And our audience is full of entrepreneurs, high achievers.
- 2:01So I think your story and what you're doing certainly is going to provide value to them.
- 2:06Yes.
- 2:07So Curtis, you're the, the founder and the CEO of Bespoke Human Potential Coaching.
- 2:14Yes.
- 2:15And we'll get into how that started and what you do for people.
- 2:18But you've had a long career sales through most of your life and you've always had this dream to, to be motivational speaker and to help others to do coaching.
- 2:30But can you just start from the beginning of your career and talk about how everything unfolded to where you are?
- 2:36Yeah, it's.
- 2:37I had an interesting trajectory because just like most of us, I've always had an entrepreneur mindset.
- 2:43So even in sales, never had a salary, always worked as an entrepreneur.
- 2:47And when I first got into sales, my first job was in financial services.
- 2:52It's interesting that as soon as I got there, I gave My training audience, my number one speech, like hey, I'm going to be number one.
- 3:00Here's what I'm going to say.
- 3:01And we did this number one speech and about a year and a half later from that point of being a rookie, I was the number one sales agent in the company.
- 3:10Broke a lot of different records.
- 3:13But just like most of us who are in sales or who entrepreneurs, something stopped me, something blocked me.
- 3:19I remember the day I was standing in my garage, new car, new house and I was like, wow, can I continue to do this right?
- 3:29And then just something blocked me.
- 3:30I didn't know what it was at that time, but I noticed that something kept trailing.
- 3:35So I stayed in sales.
- 3:37I stayed in sales as a manager.
- 3:38I have all the certified as a Clin I mean certified as a certified financial planner and a C CHLU and all of these other initials with financial services.
- 3:50But still, even though I would hit plateaus, right.
- 3:54I mean I would hit these marks.
- 3:55I was doing over a million dollars in, in sales and revenues for companies.
- 3:59But then something would hit me and says, wow, this is hard and this is difficult.
- 4:04And I kept doing it over and over again.
- 4:06Well, long story short, now you know, about six years ago we were, I was financially able to just to retire from financial services, finally leave that behind me and started doing what I've always wanted to do is actually
- 4:18help other individuals who have some of the same challenges that I was having that some of the same blocks that I was experiencing.
- 4:26Now that I can help them move them quickly, easily, without a lot of long term therapy type thing.
- 4:32I'm a coach.
- 4:33So, so that's kind of what I did.
- 4:36So I went, I'm certified as a clinical hypnotherapist.
- 4:39I'm certified in neuro linguistic programming.
- 4:41If you don't know what that is, that's the same technology that Tony Robinson uses.
- 4:46And also mental emotional release, which is a, which is a, which is a science that help people get over things really quick.
- 4:53I mean like 10 minutes or less.
- 4:54So that's kind of what my background story is, Dave.
- 4:58Okay, all right.
- 5:00So appreciate all that.
- 5:01And there's a lot to unpack there.
- 5:03So you mentioned.
- 5:04So you had some incredible success right off the bat.
- 5:08You got into sales.
- 5:09Yes.
- 5:10You said you're going to be number one.
- 5:12I'm sure everyone probably rolled their eyes when they hear this rookie guy saying that.
- 5:16But then lo and behold, a year and a half later, you're the number one sales rep in the company.
- 5:22Big money.
- 5:23Right off the bat.
- 5:23I'M sure for a young sales professional.
- 5:26But you said you had some blocks, right?
- 5:30And we hear that a lot from people about these mental emotional blocks or self sabotage or, or whatnot.
- 5:36I mean, were you able to, to really unpack what, like what that was and what was actually blocking you at that time?
- 5:43No, I mean, I kind of, kind of kept pushing through it.
- 5:48You know, I would start success plateau and then the same thing, the same cycle kept happening.
- 5:57Interesting thing happened to me where, where I kind of figured out what it was a day about.
- 6:03Listen to this now, about, about four, four, five weeks ago, I'm having all these breakthroughs for my clients, right?
- 6:09I mean, they are like, curtis, oh my God, what you're doing is fantastic.
- 6:13And I'm stopping, I'm looking at myself, I'm like, okay, what is going on with me?
- 6:18I'm having success, but not the type of success that I truly want or desire.
- 6:23And so I call one of my buddies over who also does mental and emotional release.
- 6:28I says, man, do some work with me to figure out what it is that I was number one.
- 6:34Sabotage.
- 6:35Making six, doing seven figure income for companies.
- 6:40Sabotage, you know, doing great breakthroughs.
- 6:43So I keep having this wave of sabotage, Success, sabotage, success, sabotage.
- 6:48And I'm like, what is it?
- 6:49Because I keep running this script in my head.
- 6:51Success is hard and difficult.
- 6:54So when we did the session on Mayday, what happened was I went back, we kind of floated back and says, okay, let your subconscious mind tell you what happened.
- 7:04And I say, success is hard and difficult.
- 7:06And it happened to me.
- 7:08I accepted and decided that success is hard and difficult.
- 7:12When I was about age 2, that's where my subconscious came up.
- 7:17Is it true or not?
- 7:18I don't know, but this is what makes it true.
- 7:20We did it.
- 7:21We released it.
- 7:22I basically replaced success is hard and difficult with I am con persistent, I'm strong, and I'm courageous.
- 7:31So that's the new learning I got from that.
- 7:33Well, lo and behold, because my mom's still with us, thank God.
- 7:37And I gave her a call.
- 7:38I says, mom, what was happening in my life when I was around 2?
- 7:43She says, oh, sweetie, she's from Mississippi.
- 7:45So she said, oh, sweetie, when you're around 2, I was trying to potty train you because your sister was being bored and I didn't want two babies in diapers at the same time.
- 7:54But she said, this is what she said and it was hard and difficult for you to be potty trained.
- 8:01The same language that I have been using all of my life in sales that soon as I hit a high, the language that was the.
- 8:11The messaging that was coming up for me was hard and difficult.
- 8:14It's the same language that she used when.
- 8:18When I called her a few weeks ago.
- 8:20So that's kind of what I do.
- 8:22Regardless of where we are in our journey.
- 8:24These messages usually don't start when we think they start.
- 8:28They start somewhere that an offhanded remark or something that happened that kind of drives this behavior, that creates this mindset block.
- 8:38Okay, all right.
- 8:39And so we hear so much about that, right?
- 8:41Like, all of these subconscious beliefs are formed between ages 0 to 7.
- 8:47And often times it's the people that take care of us who mean well, but maybe they're evolved or they have negative attitudes or they may say things out of what seems to be love.
- 8:58But like you said, right, she's saying this is hard and difficult.
- 9:01And you pick that up, and then that's turning into sabotage, where as soon as you hit a level of success, you're thinking it's hard and difficult.
- 9:09And then you.
- 9:10You go through the cycle and you sabotage, right?
- 9:13So you.
- 9:13You go through this emotional release therapy, and you find that out, like, how did you.
- 9:17How did you release and change that.
- 9:21That subconscious programming?
- 9:23Well, in.
- 9:23In mental emotional release, what happens is that there's a couple of questions I normally ask the client when they come in to see me.
- 9:29What, by an incident?
- 9:31The first question I ask them is this.
- 9:33Is it okay for you to release this today consciously and be aware of it conscious?
- 9:40Subconsciously.
- 9:40And be aware of it consciously?
- 9:41First of all, I get their permission because they need to know, yes, I want to do this right.
- 9:46The second question is that I ask them, if you were to know, in order to release this.
- 9:51This emotion, this feeling from the root, what is the root cause, the first event?
- 9:58So that when we released it, we can have it gone kind of forever.
- 10:01Was it before?
- 10:02Was it during or after birth?
- 10:04So it's like three phases that I asked them three questions.
- 10:07Was it before, during, or after birth?
- 10:09They then I said, don't let your conscious mind answer the question.
- 10:14Answer it subconsciously, meaning the first thing that comes to mind.
- 10:17That's what I want.
- 10:17That's the answer I'm looking for.
- 10:19And they will come up with something.
- 10:21Like, for me, I said it was age two when this, this, this emotional.
- 10:25This event happened.
- 10:26Sometimes is in the womb, sometimes it's before the womb.
- 10:30So people like, well, is it true?
- 10:32I mean, could it be a past life?
- 10:33I don't know.
- 10:34I don't judge about what actually comes up.
- 10:37I'll allow their subconscious mind speaks to them and whatever it is is okay.
- 10:41Because the goal is not to really fish to find out is that true or not.
- 10:46The goal is to release the negative emotions that's actually tied to that event.
- 10:51So then once we do what we do at that point Dave, we, we kind of will allow them to float above their timeline.
- 10:57So your timeline has all these instance instances in the timeline.
- 11:03Your, your subconscious knows exactly what everything happens.
- 11:06We tell them to float above your timeline, above that event.
- 11:09Looking down on the event.
- 11:10Now most of the time at age 2, I didn't know what the event was, but I had a feeling that was in my body that let me know that the event was present.
- 11:20And so we're looking for the feeling.
- 11:22We go look at for that feeling in that time frame.
- 11:25And then we, we, we asked your higher self.
- 11:29This is key initially, can be done by anyone.
- 11:34Is that when you are feeling a negative emotion or limiting belief, stop and take some deep breathing and ask yourself what is it that I need to learn from this event so that I can release it?
- 11:45Because the subconscious mind wants to have a learning and once you learn something from it, it allows it to release the, the host of it or the, the, the emotional ties that it has to it.
- 12:01So now are you saying that what like you figured that out with your, your own subconscious and when you do this for other people, you saying that the reason the subconscious holds on to these is to basically for
- 12:16you to learn something from that event and then once you do, then it can release and you can basically evolve and move on with, with what you're supposed to learn from that experience?
- 12:26Absolutely.
- 12:26Basically that's part of what the subconscious wants.
- 12:29The subconscious wants to know that because it's holding, think about it.
- 12:33We hold onto things because we want to feel like we're safe.
- 12:37I mean the subconscious mind's job is to keep us safe, but sometimes it keeps us safe from things that we shouldn't be.
- 12:45It shouldn't be something that's, that's not a detriment to us, but it wants to keep us safe.

- 13:26The safe part of me is hard and difficult was it was thinking, oh, I'm protecting you from this emotion, but actually was preventing me from actually moving forward.
- 13:36But once I got the new think of.
- 13:38I reframed it.
- 13:40Once I got a new frame around the old emotion, then it releases because it says, oh, okay, you got it.
- 13:46And this happens a lot.
- 13:48I love that question that you just asked.
- 13:50It happens a lot because it's like I had a friend or there was, like, having some issues, medical issues, and the body is saying, hey, I'm.
- 14:03I'm trying to get your attention.
- 14:06So it gives you different ways of getting your attention.
- 14:09It gives you pain, it gives you headaches, it gives you backaches, it gives you neck aches.
- 14:14It gives you all of these things.
- 14:15It says, hey, I'm trying to get your attention.
- 14:17I need for you to stop and get a learning from this.
- 14:20I'm trying to get your attention.
- 14:22We just kind of keep pressing it down and pushing it down.
- 14:24So, yes, part of releasing negative emotions and is allowing the subconscious mind now to learn from what we need to learn from it and then leave.
- 14:37It's like.
- 14:37It's like an emotionally.
- 14:38It's a feeling that.
- 14:40That wants to communicate with us and leave, but sometimes we.
- 14:44We prevent the learning, and so we kind of stay in that cycle.
- 14:49Okay.
- 14:50All right.
- 14:51And how.
- 14:51So you had this long career in sales, right?
- 14:55And you've been doing this coaching program, it's about seven years now, where you've been helping other.
- 15:00Other people?
- 15:00About six, seven years, yes.
- 15:02Okay, so what.
- 15:03What made you realize now is the time to.
- 15:08To start this coaching practice?
- 15:11Oh, man.
- 15:12I.
- 15:12Well, it was.
- 15:13I came to a point in my life in.
- 15:15In sales, right?
- 15:16I was a.
- 15:17I was a manager in sales.
- 15:18I worked for some.
- 15:19Some large companies.
- 15:20I worked for Prudential and National, National Life and all these companies.
- 15:25And it was time for me to renew my licenses.
- 15:28You have to understand, as a financial professional, I had, like, six different licenses, and it's very difficult to get.
- 15:36So I came to this point in my life.
- 15:37It's like, okay, what do I truly want to do?
- 15:42And I made a decision like, okay, I'm willing to let go of all these licenses that took me years to get to go into something that I really, truly desire.
- 15:51Now, granted, I was financially able to do it.
- 15:55Meaning it's like, not.
- 15:56I just didn't drop it.
- 15:57I mean, I was financially able.
- 16:00So at that point in my life, I was ready to do something like that.
- 16:04So.
- 16:05But then I, I made a decision and that's what most this, that's the key to anything that, that you think about, think and grow rich and all those other great books.
- 16:13It's like the life starts when you make a decision.
- 16:16We truly decide what we truly want and we just go for it.
- 16:21Okay, so you went for it.
- 16:23And then let's talk about the, the coaching.
- 16:27Like, how did you go about building this practice and getting clients and really serving others and doing this work that you were so aligned with?
- 16:36Well, first thing that happened was when I first went into coaching, I got a certification as an executive coach and I started doing executive coaching, had a couple of clients and I'm like, wow, this is not what I
- 16:49did.
- 16:50This is not what I was doing to become successful.
- 16:53They just didn't feel right for me.
- 16:54And that's when I went back and I got a certification as a clinical hypnotherapist because I use hypnotherapy.
- 17:01Way back when, when I was.
- 17:02Became number one to, to, to be successful, I went and also got a master practitioner as a neuro linguist in neuro linguistic programming.
- 17:14Way back when, when I first started, I went to Tony Robbins Firewalk and I walked on the hot coals and I did all of the things that he was doing.
- 17:22So I knew that the technology that he used to help change people's lives was, was valid.
- 17:27It's a great technology.
- 17:29So I got a master practitioner in that.
- 17:31And also I went and got a master in mental emotional release.
- 17:36So that's when I started on my journey.
- 17:37But it wasn't easy.
- 17:39Right.
- 17:39I'm starting out from financial services now, jumping into this coaching arena.
- 17:44And back in Mississippi, we would say everybody in their mama is a coach, right?
- 17:50Everybody are coaches now.
- 17:51You know, they do something and they're coaches.
- 17:52And so it was.
- 17:53This is a very difficult journey.
- 17:55And so I, I mean, I hit my head a lot in the first years.
- 18:00I mean, you know, you hire people to do certain things because I didn't know how to do it.
- 18:07So I spent a lot of money and had a lot of failures.
- 18:11I mean, so just like anything else, you know, you, you have these failures.
- 18:16You.
- 18:17But that's the whole ideal of.
- 18:19Part of my coaching framework is failures are not failures.
- 18:23Failures are just a learning experience.
- 18:24That's why I created the framework a few years ago.
- 18:27Legit mindset, which is learning, growing, expanding and transforming.
- 18:32Meaning that whatever we're going through, it's an opportunity for us to Learn something so that we can grow, we can expand and we can transform.
- 18:39So, so how do a lot of people I think is like someone said, I hope someone keeps shitting on me, you know, you should do this, you should do that, you should do this to be, to be successful.
- 18:53All of these shoulds, right?
- 18:55And but there was challenges and, but I kept moving, I kept moving forward and to try to find my groove, to find the front, my voice, to try to find my authentic being.
- 19:06And that's kind of what I've been really working on in the last year or so, just being me, just being Curtis.
- 19:13All right, and so you had had a very successful career in financial services.
- 19:18Done very well.
- 19:19He had like six licenses, made a lot of money right to where you were financial security here when you, you went and jumped into the coaching thing and given you had such a difficult time right in the beginning,
- 19:33like you said, hitting your head and you know, having to constantly pivot and you know, all the mistakes.
- 19:39Was there ever a point where you were thinking like wow, what, what did I get myself into and started second guessing yourself?
- 19:45Oh, absolutely, absolutely.
- 19:47That's the human part of us is like when we hit, when we hit, when we hit Roblox know we want to stop, we want to like oh my God, when did I get in into.
- 19:56But you know, but that's when, that's when the learning actually starts.
- 20:00That's where your strength is actually built is and that's when you truly have to know this is what you truly want to do.
- 20:07You know, one of the reasons people quit is they don't have enough wise why they want to do what they want to do, why they do what they do.
- 20:14And part of my why is, you know, I love helping people.
- 20:18I love helping them transform their lives.
- 20:21And you know, and obviously for part of when I first started, I'm paying me paying, I'm paying myself to help others, you know, because it wasn't a lot of money flowing.
- 20:34So I'm still, I was paying out of my pocket to help others, but it was worth it to me.
- 20:39It's worth the investment because that's what I wanted to do.
- 20:41That's what I truly, truly wanted to do.
- 20:45Okay.
- 20:46All right.
- 20:46And you said something earlier too.
- 20:48You said like most of us I had these blocks, right?
- 20:51And now you're working with many entrepreneurs and you know, high level professionals that said, like why do you think that's such a common thread to where people have a level of success and then they, they somehow self sabotage.
- 21:06Well, it's it's like this.
- 21:08First of all, part of my belief, all of us have blind spots.
- 21:13Everybody have something in our life that.
- 21:15That does not go exactly the way we want it to go.
- 21:18The difference is, is that, is your blind spot now preventing you from actually moving forward?
- 21:25Is it preventing your growth?
- 21:26Is it preventing your expansion?
- 21:29And that's the difference between a true blind spot is.
- 21:32For me, if.
- 21:34If I keep.
- 21:34If I kept running the script, success is hard and difficult.
- 21:39That meant that once I reached the success I want to reach in my coaching practice, more than likely I was going to sabotage again because of the fact that that script was really running.
- 21:49So.
- 21:50So with these blind spots, first of all, one of the things I share with people is this, Dave, is that, number one, you have to be honest with yourself.
- 21:58You know, one of the biggest challenges we have as entrepreneurs is that we're not honest with ourselves Sometimes.
- 22:03We want to make.
- 22:04We want to make.
- 22:05We want to.
- 22:06We want people to think that we have it all together all the time, and that everything is always working okay.
- 22:11And it's not sometimes, and it's okay.
- 22:14And I just wrote an article other day, it's like, it's okay not to be okay, but it's not okay to pretend that you're okay and you're not.
- 22:23So what I'm saying is that if you have a blind spot, if you have something that's now preventing you from moving to the next level, then that's when you need some work with it.
- 22:32If you have a blind spot that it doesn't really affect your business.
- 22:36It doesn't really, you know, prevent you from actually making the money you want to make or having the happiness you want to have or having the success you want to.
- 22:43You want to have or have the, the marriage life or the relationships and things of that.
- 22:48It's not.
- 22:48It's a blind spot, it's a nuisance, but it's not something that's actually preventing you from becoming the best version of yourself.
- 22:56Okay.
- 22:56All right.
- 22:57And so let's, let's talk about some of the success stories that you've had in terms of coaching others.
- 23:01I mean, can you just give us a couple kind of examples of some breakthroughs that some of your clients have had?
- 23:07Absolutely.
- 23:08One, I just, we just finished a coaching cycle, and I just use the.
- 23:12The.
- 23:13The pronoun they.
- 23:14So that we're not actually sharing some of the identities here.
- 23:18But this, this.
- 23:20This person, when they came to me, literally didn't have a job.
- 23:27Now, based on our training and based on our coaching, there now is a CFO of a company.
- 23:34That's what they're.
- 23:35That's what the goal was.
- 23:36But they, in the midst of that, the challenges was some of the stuff that happened way back when.
- 23:43Now granted, now I want people to understand I don't really dig deep into the past is not all about the past.
- 23:50Basically we re revisit the past to kind of figure out what is it that's causing your current behavior.
- 23:56So with this person, we visited the past to figure out what was it that was blocking her, what was it that's actually preventing her from actually having the happiness and having the success that she wanted.
- 24:09And once we got rid of those blocks and did some coaching with her and conditioning of the new behavior, and it took a minute, it took about even after we finished coaching, it took her a minute to really
- 24:21still to integrate.
- 24:23But success came.
- 24:25Came in a big way.
- 24:26It's interesting to me exactly what we.
- 24:28She set out to become a CFO of a company.
- 24:34Lo and behold, that's what she has.
- 24:37Okay, and so what with all these people you work with too, what.
- 24:41What do you think's the biggest challenge or the biggest block that.
- 24:45That people has?
- 24:46It just these, these beliefs that have picked up somewhere along the way that, that aren't necessarily true, but yet people have stuck in their subconscious.
- 24:54I.
- 24:54I would probably say yes.
- 24:56I mean, that's the broad yes, because that's the name of my company is Bespoke Human Potential Coaching.
- 25:02Meaning that what I do believe this, Dave, is that no one is the same, right?
- 25:07No, no, no.
- 25:09Everybody is different.
- 25:10That means that as a coach, my job is to now to figure out what is the combination you need versus what, what she needed.
- 25:20Because what she went through in her background and her experience is going to be totally different than yours.
- 25:25So this is the thing, what we try to look for in my coaching practice is what is the greater issue?
- 25:32Because a person is going to come to me with an issue.
- 25:36I'm not making the money I want to make, or I'm feeling like.
- 25:41I'm feeling like I have imposter syndrome, or I have, you know, I'm not good enough, or I'm not feeling this, so they're going to have all these issues.
- 25:49Those are just issues.
- 25:51What we're looking for is the greater problem.
- 25:54What is it that's actually causing the issues?
- 25:57Because if we can knock out the greater problem, then we will actually get all the rest of the issue.
- 26:03So people come with issues and they could come in A lot of different colors, shapes, unsize.
- 26:09This usually boils down to something internally that sometimes is triggered as could be about money, could be about not good enough.
- 26:18It could be a lot of different issues.
- 26:19But the.
- 26:20At the end of the day, we just have to figure out what is the greater issue that's actually causing the problem that we actually seeing.
- 26:27Okay.
- 26:29All right.
- 26:30And, Curtis, after how, you know, how far you've come in the sales journey, and then, you know, from persevering through the initial stumbles and really getting your coaching practice off the ground, I mean, what.
- 26:41What's been the best part of your whole entrepreneurial journey?
- 26:47I think just going through it, you know?
- 26:52You know, this is a journey, guys.
- 26:53It really is a journey.
- 26:55And part of the journey is enjoying the process, you know, because in reality, in my.
- 27:02In my thinking is that there's really not a destination.
- 27:06The destination is going to continue to move.
- 27:08Because part of my philosophy is I'm learning, I'm growing, I'm expanding, I'm transforming.
- 27:13That means every time we reach a point in our lives, there's another learning, there's another growing, there's another expanding, there's another transforming.
- 27:21So I think now understanding that this is a journey, and this journey is about me learning something new so that I can expand, transform and expand, grow and transform and just become better.
- 27:37So I think you asked the question, the simple answer would be just the growth, the process of understanding that now that's what this is all about.
- 27:48Okay.
- 27:49All right.
- 27:49And, Curtis, if people want to reach out to you and learn more about the work you do with the.
- 27:54The NLP and the emotional release and the hypnotherapy and how you help people transform, what's the best way people can reach out to you?
- 28:03The best way for them to reach out to me is either on LinkedIn.
- 28:06Definitely have a presence on LinkedIn.
- 28:08Also, I have.
- 28:09I'm on all social media platforms also with.
- 28:15On.
- 28:15On YouTube.
- 28:16I have a YouTube channel.

- 28:43They can get that and they can download it, and they're on that one that's also a free download on that.
