- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and today we've got something fun for your face. Luna: Oh, for my face? Let me guess… we're talking about eyes and ears? Lucas: Exactly. You already know nywele and ngozi from last time, so now let's look at macho and masikio. Luna: Macho and masikio. Okay, I think I've heard macho before. What does it mean? Lucas: Macho means eyes. And masikio means ears. Let's say them slowly for our listeners. Macho. Luna: Macho. Lucas: Masikio. Luna: Masikio. Lucas: Perfect. Now, just like we said nywele zangu for my hair, we say macho yangu for my eyes, and masikio yangu for my ears. Luna: Macho yangu. Masikio yangu. That's my eyes and my ears. Lucas: You got it. Let's put them into simple sentences. Macho yangu ni makubwa. Luna: That sounds like 'my eyes are something'. What's makubwa? Lucas: Makubwa means big. So Macho yangu ni makubwa means My eyes are big. Try it. Luna: Macho yangu ni makubwa. My eyes are big. That's a nice one. Lucas: And for ears, we can say Masikio yangu ni madogo. Luna: Madogo means small, right? So Masikio yangu ni madogo – my ears are small. Lucas: Exactly. You're a natural at this. Let's do a quick practice: I'll say the phrase, and you repeat after me. Macho yangu ni makubwa. Luna: Macho yangu ni makubwa. Lucas: Masikio yangu ni madogo. Luna: Masikio yangu ni madogo. Lucas: Nice. You know, Luna, this is a good moment to mention something. If today's lesson was actually useful to you, the way we keep this show ad-free is through listener support. If you want to help us keep making episodes, you can buy us a coffee at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it really helps us keep the lights on and the Swahili flowing. But no pressure at all – we're just happy you're learning with us. Lucas: So back to our eyes and ears. Let's do a tiny scene to make this stick. Imagine you're looking at a cute puppy. You could say, Macho yangu ni makubwa, because you're so excited. Luna: Macho yangu ni makubwa! And the puppy has small ears, so maybe Masikio yake ni madogo? Lucas: Oh, that's a great use of yake for 'its'. But today we're focusing on yangu. But nice try! Luna: Okay, so macho yangu, masikio yangu. Easy. Lucas: Let's do a quick review. How do you say 'my eyes'? Luna: Macho yangu. Lucas: And 'my ears'? Luna: Masikio yangu. Lucas: And 'my eyes are big'? Luna: Macho yangu ni makubwa. Lucas: Beautiful. You're doing so well. Now, let's mix it up with a quick dialogue. I'll be a friend, and you respond using what we've learned. Hey, wewe! Macho yako ni makubwa? Luna: Hmm, that's 'your eyes are big'? I'll answer, Ndiyo, macho yangu ni makubwa. Lucas: Perfect. And what about your ears? Luna: Masikio yangu ni madogo. Lucas: See how naturally that flowed? You're already using Swahili to describe yourself. Luna: It feels great. I like that we can talk about our bodies now. Next step, maybe nose and mouth? Lucas: We'll get there. But for now, let's practice these phrases a few more times. Say them with me one more time, listeners: Macho yangu ni makubwa. Luna: Masikio yangu ni madogo. Lucas: Awesome. That's our show for today. Remember to practice these phrases until they feel automatic. Luna: And if you enjoyed this, share it with a friend who wants to learn Swahili. We'll see you next time on Learn Swahili with Fexingo.
