- 0:01Speaker 1: I get a cook. What's going on?
- 0:03Speaker 2: Got a Craig Anthony. I'm sitting here with my heater
- 0:06Speaker 2: on all day long?
- 0:08Speaker 1: See what it's I mean, it's not too bad. It's
- 0:11Speaker 1: seven en today. I think it's two forty six. It's Wednesday.
- 0:14Speaker 1: It's Wednesday, Arvo in the thriving metropolis. Yeah. Can you
- 0:21Speaker 1: see that shit on my head?
- 0:24Speaker 3: What is it?
- 0:25Speaker 1: And can you see here? Can you see those?
- 0:28Speaker 3: Yeah? What's going on?
- 0:30Speaker 1: So I went to the old skin doctor.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Oh that's right, you've had a bit of a I.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Went to the old skin doctor and he went, he went,
- 0:37Speaker 1: any chance you could come in more often? I'm like,
- 0:44Speaker 1: that's hurtful. Have you got a payment coming up on
- 0:46Speaker 1: your beach house?
- 0:47Speaker 2: Chat?
- 0:47Speaker 1: What's going on? Well, there's quite a bit of work.
- 0:51Speaker 1: You have quite a lot of skin cancers. I'm like, oh,
- 0:54Speaker 1: good So anyway, goody. So he identified all of these,
- 1:00Speaker 1: well he thinks that they you know, they've got to
- 1:03Speaker 1: biopsy in them. But it seems that they probably basil
- 1:06Speaker 1: cell carcinomas, which are still skin cancer. But you know,
- 1:11Speaker 1: it generally doesn't kill you, but it can turn into melanoma,
- 1:14Speaker 1: et cetera. But anyway, so he said to me, how
- 1:18Speaker 1: do you feel about about seeing a plastic surgeon, because
- 1:23Speaker 1: there's you know, so I can refer to you. I go, no,
- 1:27Speaker 1: I don't want to see a plastic surgeon. I go, why.
- 1:29Speaker 1: He goes, well, there's quite a few. It would take
- 1:31Speaker 1: like four or five visits here. I go, I'll do
- 1:33Speaker 1: four or five visits here, thanks, And he goes, well,
- 1:37Speaker 1: this one, so I've got one right here on my face.
- 1:39Speaker 1: He goes, there'll be a scar. I go, have you
- 1:43Speaker 1: seen my head? Do you think? Like? Oh my god?
- 1:48Speaker 1: So anyway, I start next week. Next Thursday is round
- 1:52Speaker 1: one of me getting shit to cut off me.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Wait.
- 1:55Speaker 2: When I had the one cut off the side of
- 1:57Speaker 2: my head, it was it was largish, large, and the
- 2:03Speaker 2: eighteen or twenty one stitches some yeah, so the eighteens
- 2:06Speaker 2: it was very big. But in two weeks the stitches
- 2:11Speaker 2: it was barely even a scar. I was quite sad.
- 2:14Speaker 2: But I went to a plastic surgeon for that. It
- 2:15Speaker 2: was amazing. So if you know, if you want that
- 2:18Speaker 2: sort of cape, let me know.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Well, I said to him, I've got this thing here
- 2:22Speaker 1: right which is called a squire a cell, which is
- 2:25Speaker 1: or he thinks it's a square. It's like a clear
- 2:28Speaker 1: little thing. And he said have you ever He said,
- 2:33Speaker 1: how long has that been there? I said, on and
- 2:36Speaker 1: off a couple of years. He goes, what do you mean,
- 2:38Speaker 1: and on and off. I go, well, I did a
- 2:39Speaker 1: little bit of home surgery myself. And he goes, oh,
- 2:44Speaker 1: did you? And he I said yeah. So for people
- 2:50Speaker 1: thinking what is it's like the size of I don't know,
- 2:53Speaker 1: like a half a matchhead or something. Right, it's a
- 2:56Speaker 1: little like I got whiskers, so you can't really see it,
- 2:59Speaker 1: but if you look you can. And he goes, oh,
- 3:01Speaker 1: and what did that look like the medical procedure that
- 3:04Speaker 1: I did at home? I said, well, I cut it
- 3:07Speaker 1: off with nail clippers. And he's like, oh my god.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I go, but they were sharp. I go, it came
- 3:15Speaker 1: straight off. He's like, oh good, great. How did that
- 3:20Speaker 1: work out? I said, well, it was pretty bloody and
- 3:24Speaker 1: then it came back. He goes, yeah, yeah, well, maybe
- 3:28Speaker 1: let's not use nail clippers next time. I go, all right,
- 3:30Speaker 1: well you don't know, do you?
- 3:32Speaker 2: You know you need to take vitamin B three. It
- 3:36Speaker 2: helps protect protect skin cells from sun damage. You need
- 3:40Speaker 2: to get on that vitamin B three it's very cheap.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I think that ship might have sailed. I think that
- 3:46Speaker 1: I think that my skinner's fucked ship has sealed. I
- 3:50Speaker 1: look like a fucking desert boot and a T shirt
- 3:53Speaker 1: these days.
- 3:54Speaker 3: I go soon one covered in stitches. Can't see that anyway.
- 3:58Speaker 1: All right, enough about my bloody skin. But the bottom
- 4:01Speaker 1: liner is everyone get your skin checked. Get your skin checked.
- 4:07Speaker 1: So I've been doing a series which I started the
- 4:10Speaker 1: day before yesterday, and then it was meant to be
- 4:12Speaker 1: five days straight. But I did a great interview yesterday
- 4:16Speaker 1: with Annabel Chauncey, which you later edited. Did you have
- 4:19Speaker 1: a did you just edit that like a robot or
- 4:21Speaker 1: did you happen to listen to any of that?
- 4:23Speaker 2: I listened to it, but on high speed, so I
- 4:25Speaker 2: like to listen back on a normal speed.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Right. She was great, She was great, what a great
- 4:30Speaker 1: human being. Like went over to she was working in
- 4:33Speaker 1: Kenya when she was or doing some stuff in Kenya
- 4:37Speaker 1: as like some volunteer stuff. She was going over there
- 4:40Speaker 1: to kind of assess needs. She was a Uni student,
- 4:42Speaker 1: she was doing law, and there was some civil unrest
- 4:46Speaker 1: and they essentially got ejected from Kenya and put into
- 4:50Speaker 1: Uganda and then she just like she had no intention
- 4:56Speaker 1: of doing anything or becoming a philanthropist store, you know,
- 5:00Speaker 1: creating a not for profit, and then she saw all
- 5:03Speaker 1: this stuff, and seventeen years later, she's now got schools
- 5:06Speaker 1: in Uganda and medical centers and feeding programs and you know,
- 5:12Speaker 1: she's educating kids who are now for the first time
- 5:14Speaker 1: ever in their community, going to university and becoming lawyers
- 5:19Speaker 1: and doctors. And it's so good. Like when I talk
- 5:22Speaker 1: to people like that, you know, I realize how amazing
- 5:27Speaker 1: humans can be. And you know, I think, what did
- 5:30Speaker 1: she say, service before self? And you know what I
- 5:34Speaker 1: found even more interesting, not more interesting, but what I
- 5:38Speaker 1: found interesting in the conversation and we'll get to our
- 5:40Speaker 1: topic in a moment, our topic, djure, is that I thought, oh,
- 5:46Speaker 1: maybe she's got like some spiritual churchy background or some
- 5:51Speaker 1: you know, some spiritual philosophy, and she's like, nah, not
- 5:56Speaker 1: at all. I'm like, she's just like basically helping people,
- 6:01Speaker 1: serving people, you know, is a jam and just seeing
- 6:05Speaker 1: a need and trying to meet the need and so gorgeous.
- 6:08Speaker 1: So anyway, if you haven't listen to that, have a
- 6:10Speaker 1: listen to that now. The day before yesterday, before Annabelle,
- 6:13Speaker 1: I started a series which is just around five life
- 6:17Speaker 1: improving ideas, and the first one that I did was
- 6:20Speaker 1: about choosing the right path, not necessarily the easy or
- 6:24Speaker 1: comfortable or quick or painless path. I've spoken about that
- 6:26Speaker 1: a fair bit, but you know, it's like, well, we
- 6:30Speaker 1: have such a focus on the destination and the end
- 6:33Speaker 1: result that we want and the prize at the end
- 6:35Speaker 1: of the you know, the struggle. It's really the journey
- 6:38Speaker 1: and the struggle that makes us become the best version
- 6:42Speaker 1: of us. So that was all about that. I think
- 6:44Speaker 1: that was That was a good little chat. And today
- 6:47Speaker 1: I wanted to literally talk about making yourself the project
- 6:52Speaker 1: in your own life. We should do a we should
- 6:55Speaker 1: start a show called The You Projective.
- 6:57Speaker 3: That sounds great.
- 7:00Speaker 1: And the reason I say that is because, well, for
- 7:02Speaker 1: a lot of reasons, but I first realized the power
- 7:08Speaker 1: and the value of making things methodical and structured and
- 7:14Speaker 1: accountable and process driven before I really even understood science.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Like when I was eighteen years old, or not earlier
- 7:23Speaker 1: than that. When I was fifteen years old, I started
- 7:25Speaker 1: recording all my own training so I used I remember,
- 7:28Speaker 1: I actually remember my first ever training book. It was
- 7:31Speaker 1: a Green Exercise Book. I was living in Mwey at
- 7:35Speaker 1: the time with Ron and Mary, and I used to
- 7:37Speaker 1: do I would write my runs down, the distances that
- 7:40Speaker 1: I would run, I would write the times. I would
- 7:42Speaker 1: write how many push ups, sit ups, chin ups I've
- 7:44Speaker 1: done in a day. And what I was doing was
- 7:46Speaker 1: I was creating a training log. I didn't even know
- 7:49Speaker 1: that term, right, I didn't even use the word training.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I just used exercise, right. And you'll notice a lot
- 7:56Speaker 1: of people who don't work out in gyms, they don't
- 7:58Speaker 1: say the word training. They say the word at xcise,
- 8:00Speaker 1: which of course is accurate. Right. But over time, I
- 8:04Speaker 1: you know, like until I was about thirty thirty one
- 8:08Speaker 1: or two, I recorded every day of you know, so
- 8:11Speaker 1: fifteen years of workouts. And then by the time I
- 8:16Speaker 1: was eight and nine, and I was recording food as well.
- 8:18Speaker 1: So I was courting meals, micros, macros, what time I
- 8:20Speaker 1: got up, what time I went to bed water, coffee, tea, supplements,
- 8:24Speaker 1: all of that, and so I was very methodical about
- 8:28Speaker 1: what I did. But the result of that for me
- 8:32Speaker 1: was I really learned how my body worked. My mind
- 8:36Speaker 1: was always the problem. My mind was a fucking shit vest.
- 8:39Speaker 1: But I figured out how my body best worked over time,
- 8:45Speaker 1: you know, being n equals one. That is me being
- 8:47Speaker 1: the participant in my own research, but me also being
- 8:50Speaker 1: the research. And then when I started started working in gyms,
- 8:57Speaker 1: obviously just as an instructor, writing programs and showing people
- 9:00Speaker 1: how to do stuff, a little bit of that, but
- 9:02Speaker 1: more so when I started doing one on one with
- 9:04Speaker 1: people as their coach, as their trainer. So by that
- 9:07Speaker 1: time I was when I first started peteing, I was
- 9:10Speaker 1: twenty two twenty three, and I set up my first
- 9:13Speaker 1: center at twenty six. But all of my clients had
- 9:16Speaker 1: a training diary or a you know, whatever we want
- 9:20Speaker 1: to call it, and everything diary, a health diary where
- 9:23Speaker 1: we put in all the things I said before sleep
- 9:26Speaker 1: you know, sets, reps, volume, cardio, stretching, micro's, macro's, sleep supplements,
- 9:32Speaker 1: all of the things that would have an impact on
- 9:34Speaker 1: the end result. And so because you know, for well
- 9:43Speaker 1: most of us, if not all of us, especially when
- 9:45Speaker 1: it comes to food and lifestyle and our body and
- 9:49Speaker 1: all the decisions that we make around this, we can
- 9:51Speaker 1: be very spontaneous and emotional and periodically irrational when it
- 9:58Speaker 1: comes to making decisions and driven by instant gratification and
- 10:02Speaker 1: all of those things. So the idea, the long winded
- 10:07Speaker 1: intro is the idea I want to talk about today
- 10:09Speaker 1: is just making things strategic, being accountable, having a process,
- 10:16Speaker 1: and basically creating a project that is you optimizing you
- 10:20Speaker 1: in the middle of your own reality. I'll shut up
- 10:22Speaker 1: after this tip and you can jump in and whether
- 10:25Speaker 1: or not that is with your business, with your bank balance,
- 10:28Speaker 1: with your personal growth journey, whatever that means, your academic pursuits,
- 10:34Speaker 1: your physical health, your mental health. Like when we create
- 10:38Speaker 1: a protocol and we have a plan and we have
- 10:41Speaker 1: a structure, and we have accountability, and we have a timeline,
- 10:44Speaker 1: and we have resources, and we maybe have one or
- 10:47Speaker 1: two other people involved, then we create a practical reality
- 10:52Speaker 1: for ourselves where it's much harder to give up. And
- 10:57Speaker 1: I think that's important.
- 10:59Speaker 3: This is time.
- 11:00Speaker 2: I mean, I'm I'm going to tell a secret that
- 11:02Speaker 2: I wasn't going to tell. But I'm still not going
- 11:04Speaker 2: to post all of this on my own socials. This
- 11:06Speaker 2: is one of my things, but I'm going to say
- 11:07Speaker 2: it on your podcast today. I last night when I
- 11:12Speaker 2: woke up at one am and couldn't get back to
- 11:14Speaker 2: sleep till probably after four. In the middle of that,
- 11:17Speaker 2: I made the decision to do seventy five hard, which
- 11:21Speaker 2: is a protocol. And I met with someone two days
- 11:25Speaker 2: ago and they were six days from finishing it, and
- 11:27Speaker 2: we had a big chat, and so I committed to
- 11:30Speaker 2: that last night and I one day one, and so
- 11:33Speaker 2: it just reminded, you know, I needed exactly what you
- 11:36Speaker 2: were talking about. I was like, you know what, there's
- 11:37Speaker 2: just I need to kick myself up the bum. I
- 11:40Speaker 2: need some structure and accountability, and they need some hard
- 11:43Speaker 2: stuff to happen. And that's it for me today.
- 11:46Speaker 1: That's great. That's great, and I think you know what's
- 11:49Speaker 1: good about things like that is obviously off the back
- 11:52Speaker 1: of the seventy five days you'll do. You know, you're
- 11:54Speaker 1: not going to do the seventy five and then go
- 11:56Speaker 1: live in the McDonald's car park and gain twenty kilos
- 11:59Speaker 1: in the subsect month, but you know, you'll go from
- 12:03Speaker 1: Some people think I'm against short term ish although that's
- 12:07Speaker 1: not that short, but short to medium term programs. I'm
- 12:09Speaker 1: definitely not. But I am I'm against people doing you know,
- 12:14Speaker 1: going nuts and then doing nothing for the six months
- 12:18Speaker 1: after that, you know, because it's like I put up
- 12:20Speaker 1: the post the other day about my new body transformation program,
- 12:25Speaker 1: and it had my new eight week body transformation program,
- 12:28Speaker 1: and I scrubbed out the eight weeks and I wrote
- 12:30Speaker 1: fifty years. And everyone's like, oh, that's the thing is that,
- 12:35Speaker 1: you know, short term behaviors create short term results, and
- 12:39Speaker 1: nobody wants short term change. Everyone wants long term change,
- 12:43Speaker 1: and so you know, the long term change needs to
- 12:46Speaker 1: be accompanied by or preceded by long term thinking and strategy.
- 12:50Speaker 1: You know, So tell people what because the seventy five
- 12:53Speaker 1: hard If you're not sure, just google it, but tell
- 12:56Speaker 1: people what it is, because that is that is not
- 12:59Speaker 1: for the faint heart at that shit.
- 13:00Speaker 2: No, And what I like about it is it's not
- 13:04Speaker 2: it's not this. I'm not doing it for this reason either.
- 13:07Speaker 2: But it's not aimed to be a kind of body
- 13:09Speaker 2: transformation program. It's actually a mental fortitude program. It's seventy
- 13:15Speaker 2: five days of you have to do two forty five
- 13:18Speaker 2: minute workouts and one of them have to be outdoors.
- 13:22Speaker 3: You have to do.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Drink three gallons one gallon of water, which is almost
- 13:27Speaker 2: four leaders. I've been peeing like a race hourse today,
- 13:31Speaker 2: ten pages of reading reading a real book, not audiobooks,
- 13:35Speaker 2: sitting and reading, and you have to follow a diet
- 13:38Speaker 2: that can be anything. So obviously I am cutting out sugar,
- 13:41Speaker 2: I'm having no junk and no alcohol and whatever. So
- 13:46Speaker 2: on top of that, I'm also just not sharing it
- 13:51Speaker 2: at this point. So but yeah, I like that.
- 13:54Speaker 3: I like that. It's you know, you have to find out.
- 13:56Speaker 2: I got up this morning, I'm like, all right, you
- 13:58Speaker 2: have to do forty five minutes outside. It's either going
- 14:00Speaker 2: to be an now or later. Pick you think, what
- 14:02Speaker 2: are you going to do? And you have to do it.
- 14:04Speaker 2: And it reminded me of a year ago when you
- 14:07Speaker 2: were training me for that show. And sometimes you need
- 14:11Speaker 2: something to have a purpose to get you doing what
- 14:16Speaker 2: you normally do.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Like that mindset is normally.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Typical for me, but it just hasn't been lately, and
- 14:21Speaker 2: I've been you know, you just gradually let things go.
- 14:23Speaker 2: You need that reminder of, hey, I can get up
- 14:26Speaker 2: and do hard things and excuses can't get in the
- 14:29Speaker 2: way because there's no substituting this.
- 14:32Speaker 1: And when you fully commit, it's like you can't be
- 14:35Speaker 1: kind of committed. It's like you can't kind of jump
- 14:38Speaker 1: off a cliff, like you're fucking you're jumping off the
- 14:41Speaker 1: cliff or you're not.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Yeah, showing yourself that you're not, that you're not lying,
- 14:47Speaker 2: that you don't have to lie to yourself.
- 14:48Speaker 3: You're not a liar.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Do you know what I love the most about what
- 14:52Speaker 1: you've said. I love And I don't mean this to
- 14:56Speaker 1: sound in any way disparaging because I fuck around with you,
- 14:58Speaker 1: with you posting shit or the time, which I actually like,
- 15:01Speaker 1: I just fuck with you. But but I would love
- 15:04Speaker 1: you to post zero about this until it's finished, and
- 15:08Speaker 1: then I would like you to do an episode or
- 15:13Speaker 1: two or a post or whatever, an interview with me,
- 15:16Speaker 1: whatever on you know, just doing it where there are
- 15:19Speaker 1: there's no one. There's no accolades, there's no daily reports
- 15:23Speaker 1: people going oh you're fucking amazing, like fuck all that,
- 15:27Speaker 1: Like just where there's no instant gratification, there's no ego stroking,
- 15:33Speaker 1: there's no kind of pumping up of the self esteem.
- 15:37Speaker 1: It's just you and you, like I think they're the
- 15:40Speaker 1: best things. Where it's just that's like why I recommend you,
- 15:44Speaker 1: know my protocol of going somewhere by yourself, well at
- 15:48Speaker 1: least three days, preferably ten, and just you and you
- 15:52Speaker 1: no phone, no computer, no television, no media, no social media,
- 15:56Speaker 1: no friends, no family, just you and your thoughts and
- 16:00Speaker 1: feelings and fucking you know, just trying to figure out
- 16:03Speaker 1: when there are zero distractions, like what comes up and
- 16:08Speaker 1: when everything's turned off? Who am I then? And when
- 16:12Speaker 1: no one's paying attention? Who am I? Then? Yeah? I'm
- 16:16Speaker 1: really interested. That's I don't know if I would last.
- 16:18Speaker 1: To be honest, I don't know if I would last.
- 16:20Speaker 1: That is, and I think, you know, there's this question
- 16:23Speaker 1: that I've asked a thousand times, and that is what's
- 16:27Speaker 1: your post motivation strategy? Like what happens once you're not?
- 16:32Speaker 1: I don't mean for you, I just meant in general
- 16:34Speaker 1: for our listeners. It's like, why do we need structure,
- 16:37Speaker 1: accountability process, why do we need plan what? Because most people,
- 16:43Speaker 1: with their body, with their training, I say most with
- 16:46Speaker 1: their food, with their genetic potential, with their time, with
- 16:49Speaker 1: their lifestyle, with their habits, most people are not strategic.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Most people just fucking stumble along and then wake up
- 16:59Speaker 1: at forty seven and go, oh my god, how did
- 17:01Speaker 1: I end up here? Or because you didn't have a plan,
- 17:06Speaker 1: you know, you didn't you didn't follow anything. There was
- 17:08Speaker 1: no structure, there was no self control, there was no discipline.
- 17:12Speaker 1: And this is not hate, this is just you know,
- 17:15Speaker 1: this is just self awareness and honesty. At some stage,
- 17:18Speaker 1: you know, we need to go without beating ourselves up.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Oh that sun is really shining in the window. Hang on,
- 17:26Speaker 1: you can keep it going. I'm just pulling down the
- 17:28Speaker 1: blind hairds. You just keep rolling because I was getting.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Fucking any some on that skin hat.
- 17:34Speaker 1: We don't need more sun on this. But at some
- 17:37Speaker 1: stage you've got to go, Okay, I'm the solution. But
- 17:40Speaker 1: I've also been the problem in my own story because
- 17:44Speaker 1: I did all this dumb stuff. And yeah, we can
- 17:46Speaker 1: go oh but ah, but ah, but and I get it.
- 17:49Speaker 1: I get it there. You know, there are lots of
- 17:51Speaker 1: variables and it's not easy to do the things we
- 17:53Speaker 1: need to do. I concur I agree, we'll get this.
- 17:57Speaker 2: The guy Chris is the guy that I'll speaking to
- 18:00Speaker 2: that's doing it in six days from finishing and three
- 18:04Speaker 2: weeks in he broke his ankle, still doing it, and
- 18:09Speaker 2: he works eighty to one hundred hours a week. He's
- 18:11Speaker 2: the most successful person I sat and talked about. He's like,
- 18:14Speaker 2: so I work eighty one hundred hours a week, but
- 18:18Speaker 2: you find time, you find ninety minutes.
- 18:20Speaker 3: It's easy. You just get it done.
- 18:21Speaker 2: I put an appointment in the diary and I just
- 18:22Speaker 2: get it done and I broke my ankle. I was like, oh, well,
- 18:24Speaker 2: well I can't run then I have to do this,
- 18:26Speaker 2: like and that just that inspired me to hear someone
- 18:31Speaker 2: say that and just look at him, his vibrant. He's successful,
- 18:34Speaker 2: he's just getting it done. And I was like, yeah,
- 18:36Speaker 2: that's yeah.
- 18:37Speaker 3: I love that. Well, I'm going to get it done too.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Well. When you truly fully commit something, then you know,
- 18:47Speaker 1: like he's fully committed. And if you are literally fully committed,
- 18:51Speaker 1: then you'll just find a way to do it. And
- 18:54Speaker 1: of course, and this is the the circular conversation that
- 18:58Speaker 1: we have at the U Project is no, it's not easy.
- 19:01Speaker 1: No it's not convenient. No it's not instant, No it's
- 19:04Speaker 1: not painless. But nonetheless, people will still spend fucking decades
- 19:08Speaker 1: looking for the easy, painless, instant, you know, convenient path
- 19:13Speaker 1: and then one day, like eventually, eventually we either get
- 19:17Speaker 1: sick and die or hopefully a better option, we go Okay,
- 19:22Speaker 1: So there is no shortcut, all right, There is no
- 19:26Speaker 1: fucking magic pill but hopefully people figure this out sooner
- 19:31Speaker 1: than later, you know, like it's you know, you can
- 19:36Speaker 1: still turn things around in your older years, but it's
- 19:40Speaker 1: easier and better if you figure it out earlier and
- 19:43Speaker 1: you do something about it earlier, you know, because it's
- 19:48Speaker 1: just like that whole thing of you know, you can
- 19:52Speaker 1: get a new house, and you can and you doo
- 19:53Speaker 1: have more money that I can't get another body. That's it.
- 19:57Speaker 1: You got one, So you got one. It doesn't matter
- 20:00Speaker 1: how you rationalize and justify and talk and explain, and
- 20:03Speaker 1: you still just got the one body though you still
- 20:05Speaker 1: only got that one.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Can't get another, and even you only get the one life.
- 20:11Speaker 2: And because the reason that this attracts me right now
- 20:14Speaker 2: has got nothing to do with body and everything to
- 20:16Speaker 2: do with I like me better when I'm the person
- 20:19Speaker 2: that does those things. I function better, I'm more productive,
- 20:24Speaker 2: I'm happier, I'm better to beat around, I perform better.
- 20:27Speaker 2: I like that version of Tiff, and the version of
- 20:30Speaker 2: Tiff that doesn't do those things, well.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Then that's just a bit miserable.
- 20:35Speaker 2: So there's but a lot of people, myself included, at
- 20:39Speaker 2: times we go, oh a little bit frumpy.
- 20:42Speaker 3: I gotta lose some weight. I've got to get fitter,
- 20:43Speaker 3: I've got to get leaner.
- 20:44Speaker 2: We go look for the body thing, but it's actually
- 20:47Speaker 2: the gift is in who I become in all parts
- 20:50Speaker 2: of my life. When I embody these behaviors, I think
- 20:53Speaker 2: when we can recognize that and attach to it, then
- 20:57Speaker 2: the transformation happens. Then we stick to the program.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Yeah, and so where do we start? So you know,
- 21:06Speaker 1: we can start in a million places, but for me,
- 21:08Speaker 1: I think a really good place to start. If what
- 21:11Speaker 1: we're talking about resonates with you, then you know, like
- 21:15Speaker 1: questions that I've asked myself and others over the years, are, Okay,
- 21:19Speaker 1: with my genetics, at my age, with my body type,
- 21:23Speaker 1: with my goals, what's the best way for me to
- 21:25Speaker 1: eat boom, that's a good question. What's the best way
- 21:28Speaker 1: for me to move my body? Okay? Me and booze?
- 21:32Speaker 1: Is Booz's going to help me? Or Hindy me? Hindu me? Okay?
- 21:35Speaker 1: Do you want that? No? I don't. Okay, But what
- 21:37Speaker 1: about you know, starchy carbi high sugary food. No cool.
- 21:42Speaker 1: So you're either going to have it or you're not
- 21:44Speaker 1: going to have it. That's a decision, right, And yeah,
- 21:47Speaker 1: we can. We can make it harder than it needs
- 21:49Speaker 1: to be or more complicated, but ultimately there are decisions
- 21:54Speaker 1: to be made moments moment, day to day, and those
- 21:57Speaker 1: decisions that we may make based off the questions that
- 21:59Speaker 1: we ask, they are in many ways all determining because
- 22:04Speaker 1: life is just an ever ending series of questions and
- 22:07Speaker 1: choices and subsequent behaviors and outcomes. So you know, when
- 22:12Speaker 1: you get up in the morning and you say, all right,
- 22:14Speaker 1: what's the best breakfast? Not necessarily what's the yummiest, but
- 22:18Speaker 1: what's the best breakfast for me? Based on how I
- 22:21Speaker 1: want to feel and perform, have that breakfast. Okay, so
- 22:25Speaker 1: I can't get to the gym today, blah blah blah blah.
- 22:27Speaker 1: All right, well what can you do? Well, you know,
- 22:30Speaker 1: are there's stairs at work. Could you get into the
- 22:32Speaker 1: stairwell and walk three minutes of stairs a few times? Yeah? Sure,
- 22:35Speaker 1: So you do that five times. So you've done fifteen
- 22:38Speaker 1: minutes of stairs and you did three minute installments. Right.
- 22:42Speaker 1: It's like, if we want to find a way to
- 22:45Speaker 1: move the needle, we will find a way. If we
- 22:48Speaker 1: want to find a way to delay, to deny, to procrastinate,
- 22:52Speaker 1: to avoid to rationalize to make we'll do that, We'll
- 22:57Speaker 1: do that, and then we're five years older. I still going,
- 23:00Speaker 1: oh fuck though no one understands, no one understands me.
- 23:05Speaker 1: I've got the hardest life in the world. Do you
- 23:10Speaker 1: do you or do you have a fucking shit attitude?
- 23:13Speaker 2: Like?
- 23:15Speaker 1: You know? And I'm not saying I'm definitely not. I'm
- 23:18Speaker 1: a pussy sometimes, but you know, will you know Johnny
- 23:21Speaker 1: that we train with at the gym, you know, and
- 23:24Speaker 1: I know this is groundhog day, but I just I
- 23:27Speaker 1: think about him and people like him that I've trained.
- 23:29Speaker 1: You know, this guy has a significant spinal cord injury.
- 23:33Speaker 1: His life is very difficult. Even to get to the
- 23:36Speaker 1: gym as difficult every day of his life. He has pain,
- 23:40Speaker 1: he has a lot of physical challenges. But he just
- 23:45Speaker 1: comes to the gym. He just comes like he just
- 23:48Speaker 1: turns up and he doesn't complain, and he brings his
- 23:51Speaker 1: pain and he's broken body with him and we give
- 23:53Speaker 1: him a fucking hug and a cuddle and we talk
- 23:56Speaker 1: to him and we help him through his workout. And
- 23:58Speaker 1: you know, it's like, if you want to find a way,
- 24:01Speaker 1: you'll find a way. If you want to find an excuse,
- 24:04Speaker 1: you'll find an excuse. And yes, this is somewhat cliche,
- 24:09Speaker 1: but you know, we all need to realize that that
- 24:12Speaker 1: in a minute we're going to look up and it's
- 24:14Speaker 1: going to be another year. It's going to be another
- 24:15Speaker 1: two years. And you know, sometimes the thing that needs
- 24:19Speaker 1: to change in the moment is the kind of inner
- 24:23Speaker 1: dialogue about all this stuff, because that in a dialogue
- 24:27Speaker 1: and questions and you know, the kind of self talk
- 24:30Speaker 1: and the stories really in a large way kind of
- 24:33Speaker 1: determines what we do and what we produce moving forward.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Yeah, and I reckon getting separation between our thoughts and
- 24:42Speaker 2: or kind of not identifying with them, Like I think
- 24:47Speaker 2: more of it as I'm having a shit attitude. I'm
- 24:54Speaker 2: having shit thoughts. My thoughts are really negative lately, but
- 24:56Speaker 2: that's not me. So rather than saying I'm really negative,
- 24:59Speaker 2: I'm it lately, that just kind of compounds it and
- 25:04Speaker 2: makes me more of the shit. Or when you just go,
- 25:07Speaker 2: all right, I'm having a lot of shitty thoughts lately,
- 25:10Speaker 2: and I'm I'm thinking in a really demotivated manner and
- 25:14Speaker 2: I'm thinking really negatively. That's interesting, That's not how I
- 25:18Speaker 2: normally am. I'm different I need to figure this out.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Yeah, beautiful distinction. Yeah, because you are not You are
- 25:27Speaker 1: not the thought, you are not the feeling.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Because comparisons you are.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Yeah, you are not the story. You're just the storyteller.
- 25:35Speaker 1: You're just the thinker, You're just the feeler. But there's
- 25:37Speaker 1: a distinction between the thought, the feeling, the story and
- 25:41Speaker 1: you the producer of all of that stuff and knowing
- 25:43Speaker 1: where the thought ends and you start, you know, and
- 25:46Speaker 1: that's yeah, and it's you know, this is how I feel,
- 25:51Speaker 1: and that's okay, and all of this stuff. Like I said,
- 25:54Speaker 1: this is not about beating yourself up. This is just
- 25:56Speaker 1: about acknowledging what is and then dealing with what is
- 26:00Speaker 1: so that you know, the reality for me is I'm
- 26:04Speaker 1: you know, I'm sixty and I don't have great genetics
- 26:06Speaker 1: and blah blah blah blah blah, all that stuff that
- 26:08Speaker 1: we've all heard too much. And you go, all right, well,
- 26:10Speaker 1: with my not great genetics and my sixty year old
- 26:12Speaker 1: self and my fucking thirty seven skin cancers and fucking
- 26:18Speaker 1: you know, blah blah blah, with all of that, what
- 26:21Speaker 1: can I do? Well? You know, can you go to
- 26:23Speaker 1: the gym today? You can yep. Can I bench press
- 26:26Speaker 1: like I used to nut? Why I'm my shoulders a
- 26:27Speaker 1: fucked Can I still do chinups? Yep? I can? Well,
- 26:30Speaker 1: let's do those. Can you bench press at all? Yeah?
- 26:32Speaker 1: But probably on a ball with dumbbells is better than
- 26:34Speaker 1: on a bench with okay, so do that? Well? What
- 26:36Speaker 1: else can you do? Can you squad? Not really kind
- 26:39Speaker 1: of fucks up my discs? Can you lead press? I
- 26:41Speaker 1: can so do that? Can you run? Well a little bit?
- 26:45Speaker 1: So run a little bit?
- 26:46Speaker 3: You know.
- 26:47Speaker 1: It's like, let's let's acknowledge what we can't and then
- 26:51Speaker 1: let's figure out a modified or appropriate version of what
- 26:54Speaker 1: is okay for me or us right now, and then
- 26:59Speaker 1: let's do that. Let's do that. Let's not wait for Christmas.
- 27:03Speaker 1: Let's not wait for summer. Let's not wait for Monday.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Let's not wait for a fucking round of applause or
- 27:09Speaker 1: a trophy. Let's not post our fucking breakfast on Instagram again,
- 27:13Speaker 1: Let's not do that.
- 27:14Speaker 3: I will in seventy five days.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Seventy five days, It'll be a fucking nightmare. It'll it'll
- 27:21Speaker 1: just be a week of just saturation. Oh God, oh God,
- 27:31Speaker 1: is with that thing I've spoken to people about it,
- 27:34Speaker 1: but I can't remember. Is it different stuff every day?
- 27:37Speaker 1: And no?
- 27:39Speaker 2: Is it that's there the guidelines and you can go
- 27:42Speaker 2: as hard or you know, do whatever, but they're the guidelines.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Tell me the guidelines again. So reading ten pages every day.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Reading ten pages every day of like a self improvement
- 27:51Speaker 2: type of book. Yeah, two forty five minute workouts. One
- 27:56Speaker 2: of them must be outdoors, right, take progress picture. To
- 28:00Speaker 2: drink a gallon of water which is almost four liters
- 28:04Speaker 2: and follow a diet so there's no specifications around the diet.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Have some diet guidelines that suit you, and no cheap
- 28:12Speaker 2: meals or alcohol. You know what's interesting? Chris talked about
- 28:16Speaker 2: how great it is that he's doing this and he's
- 28:20Speaker 2: doing it for charity so that people will leave him
- 28:22Speaker 2: alone on the drinking front. Our culture around drinking. He goes,
- 28:26Speaker 2: if it wasn't for charity, goes, people had just put
- 28:30Speaker 2: alcohol in my drink on me, Like, isn't that ridiculous?
- 28:35Speaker 2: He goes, I'm not even to He goes, it's the
- 28:36Speaker 2: first birthday in thirty nine years that I haven't drank.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Wow.
- 28:42Speaker 2: And it made him reflect. He goes, I like, isn't
- 28:45Speaker 2: that sad? Why why did we drink? Because I was
- 28:48Speaker 2: born thirty you know, like that or nine years ago.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Well, let's hope he didn't drink in his first ten birthdays.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Tips so maybe not the first one in thirty nine years,
- 28:59Speaker 1: but as an adult, let's say.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Just as I went to say it, I'm like, yeah,
- 29:04Speaker 2: and I was like, I can't bothered with the calculations.
- 29:07Speaker 1: I know.
- 29:08Speaker 2: It's like he's not telling people that he's told people
- 29:12Speaker 2: he's got another twenty seven days to go. He is, oh,
- 29:14Speaker 2: I think got about twenty to go. He finishes in
- 29:17Speaker 2: a couple of day. I think Sunday, he finishes few days,
- 29:20Speaker 2: but he won't tell him because he doesn't want the
- 29:22Speaker 2: wrath of people wanting to drag him back down.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Yeah, you can change that, though. I mean, you know,
- 29:28Speaker 1: I get asked very rarely, and if I do, I
- 29:31Speaker 1: shut it down. Like people are just you know what.
- 29:34Speaker 1: People are not fascinated that I don't drink. They're fascinated
- 29:37Speaker 1: that I've never drunk, never drunk. Yeah, And the amount
- 29:39Speaker 1: of people who repeat the question, they go, oh, you
- 29:41Speaker 1: don't how long? I go, I've never drunk, And they go,
- 29:44Speaker 1: you've never drunk? I go, no, they go you've never
- 29:47Speaker 1: had alcohol. I go no, And then they go, you've
- 29:51Speaker 1: never had a beer. I go, I just fucking told
- 29:53Speaker 1: you I've never had alcohol, so that includes beer.
- 29:58Speaker 2: That's when you're in the middle of it, you just go,
- 30:00Speaker 2: I was addicted to crack at twelve, so.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, but don't fucking try and hide my
- 30:05Speaker 1: cheesecake or I'll stab you in the throat. Now I'm over.
- 30:11Speaker 1: I'm past that phase, all right, team, So what's the
- 30:15Speaker 1: take home? The take home is get strategic, creative, timeline,
- 30:18Speaker 1: creative process, write it down. Research tells us, and my
- 30:23Speaker 1: observation tells me that the more you write, the more
- 30:27Speaker 1: you track things, whether or not you use that with
- 30:31Speaker 1: an app or an old fashioned diary where you actually
- 30:35Speaker 1: have some paper and a pen. The more that you track,
- 30:39Speaker 1: the more that you're likely to maintain the behavior, the
- 30:41Speaker 1: more you're likely to create the outcomes you want to create.
- 30:45Speaker 1: But also in the middle of all of that tracking
- 30:47Speaker 1: and that recording is this thing that happens called awareness
- 30:51Speaker 1: and understanding. All of a sudden, you go, oh, look
- 30:54Speaker 1: what I ate today, and this is how I feel.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Look at what I ate the other day, and that's
- 30:58Speaker 1: how I felt, And So what you're doing is you're essentially,
- 31:03Speaker 1: through this process, you're teaching you about you, so that
- 31:07Speaker 1: the operating system which is essentially paying attention to and
- 31:13Speaker 1: then subsequently making decisions around data that you are collecting.
- 31:19Speaker 1: So give it a crack kids, Thanks TIV.
- 31:23Speaker 3: Thanks Harps.
- 31:24Speaker 1: So day two tomorrow, right, day two tomorrow, only seventy
- 31:28Speaker 1: four days to go. Yep, you're going to be a
- 31:31Speaker 1: fucking nightmare for the next seventy four days. Maybe I'll
- 31:35Speaker 1: go away, see ya, see ya,
