- 0:02Speaker 1: Life Audio. How do you ingle? Morning? Friends and faithful listeners.
- 0:06Speaker 1: You've tuned into the Bible Explain podcast and Hi, my
- 0:08Speaker 1: name is Jen. I am the host here and so
- 0:11Speaker 1: excited to share a delicious cup of coffee with you
- 0:13Speaker 1: as we discuss Hebrews thirteen. So how are all of
- 0:23Speaker 1: you faithful listeners doing. I love to hear from you, guys.
- 0:26Speaker 1: If you ever have a prayer request or something you'd
- 0:28Speaker 1: like to talk to me about, then you can reach
- 0:30Speaker 1: out with my email address that is listed in the
- 0:32Speaker 1: description of this episode. And I do read all of
- 0:35Speaker 1: my emails, so please don't hesitate to reach out if
- 0:37Speaker 1: you have any kind of questions or concerns or prayer
- 0:40Speaker 1: requests that you would like me to pray for. I
- 0:42Speaker 1: have a little calendar that sits next to me on
- 0:44Speaker 1: my desk that I write all of my prayer requests
- 0:47Speaker 1: down on, and I pray for you for the week.
- 0:50Speaker 1: So yes, don't hesitate to reach out if you would
- 0:52Speaker 1: like me to pray for something. Let's grab our Bibles
- 0:55Speaker 1: this morning and read Hebrews thirteen seven through fourteen together.
- 0:59Speaker 1: So we're not going to finish Hebrews thirteen today. I
- 1:01Speaker 1: kind of thought we would, but we're not going to
- 1:03Speaker 1: because I'm really excited to delve into this portion. I
- 1:06Speaker 1: think there's going to be a whole lot we can
- 1:08Speaker 1: talk about because we're going to talk about what type
- 1:10Speaker 1: of sacrifice Jesus emulated from the Old Testament, because I
- 1:14Speaker 1: don't know if you guys remember going through the Book
- 1:16Speaker 1: of Leviticus with me, but there was a ton of
- 1:18Speaker 1: different sacrifices. There were the grain offerings and the sin
- 1:21Speaker 1: offerings and the peace offerings. We're going to talk about
- 1:24Speaker 1: the specific type of sacrifice Jesus emulated on the cross.
- 1:29Speaker 1: So we're going to go into that right after this
- 1:31Speaker 1: advertisement from a sponsor. All right, So today I'll be
- 1:36Speaker 1: reading from the web version as I usually do, but
- 1:39Speaker 1: all of you faithful listeners can feel free to read
- 1:41Speaker 1: out of the version that you prefer this morning. It
- 1:44Speaker 1: does not have to be the Web. The only reason
- 1:46Speaker 1: I read from this particular version is because it is
- 1:49Speaker 1: a public domain version of Scripture, and that means I
- 1:52Speaker 1: won't get in trouble if I read from it, because
- 1:56Speaker 1: if I read from like the NIV or something, I
- 1:58Speaker 1: have to reach out and ask for permission to read it.
- 2:01Speaker 1: So yes, let's go ahead. And read Hebrews thirteen seven
- 2:04Speaker 1: through fourteen together. Make sure to grab your delicious cup
- 2:07Speaker 1: of seven weeks coffee or your cup of tea for
- 2:09Speaker 1: you crazy tea drinkers, and share that with me as
- 2:12Speaker 1: we read this together. Remember your leaders men who spoke
- 2:17Speaker 1: to you the word of God, and, considering the results
- 2:19Speaker 1: of their conduct, imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today,
- 2:24Speaker 1: and forever. Don't be carried away by various and strange teachings.
- 2:28Speaker 1: For it is good that the heart be established by grace,
- 2:31Speaker 1: not by foods through which those who are so occupied
- 2:34Speaker 1: were not benefited. We have an altar from which those
- 2:37Speaker 1: who serve the Holy Tabernacle have no right to eat,
- 2:40Speaker 1: for the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought
- 2:43Speaker 1: into the Holy Place by the High Priest as an
- 2:45Speaker 1: offering for sin are burned outside the camp. Therefore, Jesus
- 2:49Speaker 1: also that he might sanctify the people through his own
- 2:52Speaker 1: blood suffered outside the gate. Let's therefore go out to
- 2:55Speaker 1: him outside of the camp, bearing his reproach. For we
- 2:59Speaker 1: don't have here in oring city, but we seek that
- 3:01Speaker 1: which is to come. So this last chapter of Hebrews
- 3:06Speaker 1: is kind of like an exhortation to everybody, just sort
- 3:09Speaker 1: of like some closing notes of what everybody should know
- 3:12Speaker 1: and remember from the book. And so he says in
- 3:15Speaker 1: verse seven, remember your leaders men who spoke to you
- 3:19Speaker 1: the Word of God, and considering the results of their conduct,
- 3:22Speaker 1: imitate their faith. I've heard this saying before. The way
- 3:26Speaker 1: the American church is set up, it's set up to
- 3:30Speaker 1: promote narcissism, because the pastor is kind of the head
- 3:34Speaker 1: of everything, and then there's like his elder board underneath him,
- 3:37Speaker 1: and then the church is underneath that. But that's actually
- 3:40Speaker 1: not a scriptural system. There are supposed to be leaders
- 3:43Speaker 1: in the church, obviously, but there's no one leader above
- 3:47Speaker 1: all the other leaders. In fact, all the leaders were
- 3:50Speaker 1: supposed to share the responsibility. If you go through first
- 3:53Speaker 1: Timothy and Titus specifically, you will see how an elder
- 3:57Speaker 1: board is supposed to be set up. There's no one pastor,
- 4:01Speaker 1: and then the elders, they're kind of supposed to be
- 4:03Speaker 1: one in the same. They're the teaching and preaching elders
- 4:06Speaker 1: that one Timothy talks about, and preaching and teaching elders
- 4:10Speaker 1: obviously are leaders in the church, but they are not
- 4:13Speaker 1: above any of the other elders, and the elders are
- 4:16Speaker 1: supposed to have checks and balances on each other to
- 4:19Speaker 1: make sure that nobody is kind of going off the rails,
- 4:22Speaker 1: that no bad theology is coming into the church, that
- 4:26Speaker 1: you know, all the ministries that might be in the
- 4:28Speaker 1: church are kind of kept in line. Unfortunately, there are
- 4:31Speaker 1: very few churches these days that follow that kind of
- 4:35Speaker 1: biblical guidelines. But even so, this verse right here tells
- 4:39Speaker 1: us to kind of scrutinize our pastors. It says, remember
- 4:43Speaker 1: your leaders men who spoke to you the Word of God,
- 4:46Speaker 1: and considering the results of their conduct, imitate their faith.
- 4:50Speaker 1: So we are supposed to make sure that their conduct
- 4:54Speaker 1: is appropriate before we imitate them. And if their conduct
- 4:58Speaker 1: is biblical, if it is in line with scripture, if
- 5:01Speaker 1: they are not acting hypocritically, we are to imitate their faith.
- 5:04Speaker 1: So the people at that time who didn't know how
- 5:06Speaker 1: to read or didn't have access to the Old Testament
- 5:09Speaker 1: laws could view the lives of their elders, imitate that
- 5:13Speaker 1: and gain knowledge of the scriptures through the conduct of
- 5:17Speaker 1: the elders. So that's why elders were held to such
- 5:21Speaker 1: important standards. In one Timothy and Titus. You know, we
- 5:25Speaker 1: went through the list of what an elder could and
- 5:28Speaker 1: could not be. If a person had more than one
- 5:31Speaker 1: wife could not be an elder. If a person had
- 5:34Speaker 1: a problem with drinking could not be an elder. If
- 5:37Speaker 1: he was overly concerned with money could not be an elder.
- 5:41Speaker 1: So there are so many strict guidelines as to who
- 5:44Speaker 1: could be an elder and who couldn't be an elder,
- 5:47Speaker 1: just because of the fact that the elder's life itself
- 5:50Speaker 1: would be a light shining to the rest of the church.
- 5:54Speaker 1: So how does this apply to us now? Because we
- 5:57Speaker 1: have access to these scriptures, we can even and better
- 6:01Speaker 1: go back into the Bible and make sure that our
- 6:03Speaker 1: elders are being held accountable. Make sure that our elders
- 6:08Speaker 1: are doing the right thing. Now, this doesn't mean that
- 6:10Speaker 1: we're supposed to scrutinize every single area of their life
- 6:13Speaker 1: lives and make everything miserable. In fact, if you go
- 6:17Speaker 1: down to verse seventeen that is addressed to that kind
- 6:19Speaker 1: of behavior where somebody is constantly scrutinizing and mistreating an elder,
- 6:24Speaker 1: it says, obey your leaders and submit to them, for
- 6:27Speaker 1: they watch on the behalf of your souls as those
- 6:29Speaker 1: who will give an account that they may do this
- 6:31Speaker 1: with joy and not with groaning, for that would be
- 6:34Speaker 1: unprofitable for you. So yeah, we're not supposed to nitpick
- 6:37Speaker 1: every single, tiny little thing that we don't like, Like
- 6:40Speaker 1: say they prefer a certain style of preaching that you
- 6:45Speaker 1: might not prefer. Well, who cares. That's just a preference,
- 6:48Speaker 1: not a theology issue. But if your elder or pastor
- 6:51Speaker 1: is mistreating somebody while preaching the gospel from the pulpit,
- 6:55Speaker 1: or if your elder or preacher is preaching something ungodly
- 6:59Speaker 1: from the pulpit, then that is when the church can
- 7:02Speaker 1: step in and be like, hey, there's an issue and
- 7:04Speaker 1: we need to have the elder board evaluate to this
- 7:07Speaker 1: kind of thing. But otherwise we shouldn't be nitpicking every single,
- 7:11Speaker 1: tiny little area of our elders' lives. But still, even now,
- 7:15Speaker 1: even when we have scripture, the elders are to emulate
- 7:19Speaker 1: a godly life, and that is going to be an
- 7:21Speaker 1: encouragement to each one of us. Like, if you've ever
- 7:24Speaker 1: been encouraged by somebody's faith before, like maybe they've gone
- 7:27Speaker 1: through something that feels very similar to something you've gone through.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Maybe their faith was just really strong at that point
- 7:34Speaker 1: in time, and that was an encouragement to you, and
- 7:37Speaker 1: you were able to view how they acted during a
- 7:40Speaker 1: specific hard period of their lives, and that maybe caused
- 7:43Speaker 1: you to want to imitate that when you're going through
- 7:47Speaker 1: something hard and difficult. So even now, the elders are
- 7:51Speaker 1: to shine the lights, and as we view their faith,
- 7:53Speaker 1: we are to imitate them and do the good things
- 7:56Speaker 1: that they do. We are to consider the results of
- 7:59Speaker 1: their conduct and imitate their faith. But I do want
- 8:02Speaker 1: to say one more thing about this before I move on,
- 8:05Speaker 1: because I'm kind of picking on elders. But the Greek
- 8:07Speaker 1: word here does not actually say elders. It says leaders.
- 8:10Speaker 1: So this is anybody who is leading the way by
- 8:15Speaker 1: teaching the Gospel message. This could include any kind of
- 8:17Speaker 1: sermon you're listening to online, any missionary that comes into
- 8:21Speaker 1: your church, a podcaster, for example. This includes me, because
- 8:25Speaker 1: I am going through the Bible and teaching it to
- 8:28Speaker 1: all of you faithful listeners. So this is not just
- 8:31Speaker 1: talking about elders and pastors, but really anybody that is
- 8:35Speaker 1: actively teaching the Gospel message. So you have to be
- 8:38Speaker 1: aware of everything that you are listening to and any
- 8:40Speaker 1: kind of weird theology that comes in even from me,
- 8:43Speaker 1: which is why I always encourage you guys to pick
- 8:45Speaker 1: up the Bible for yourself and read it, and don't
- 8:47Speaker 1: just take my word for it, because sometimes I'm wrong,
- 8:50Speaker 1: and you guys know that I am sometimes wrong and
- 8:53Speaker 1: I have to correct myself. So it's important to read
- 8:57Speaker 1: the Bible for yourself and really be prayer for as
- 9:00Speaker 1: you're reading the Bible, and ask the Holy Spirit to
- 9:03Speaker 1: help you understand what it says. The Holy Spirit is
- 9:06Speaker 1: our counselor. He helps us understand and gives us wisdom
- 9:11Speaker 1: when we really need it. So you have to be
- 9:13Speaker 1: prayerful and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you as
- 9:15Speaker 1: you're reading through the Bible. But now the author turns
- 9:18Speaker 1: everything to Jesus Christ, the one we worship. Jesus Christ
- 9:23Speaker 1: is the same yesterday, today and forever. Our teachers are
- 9:28Speaker 1: going to come and go, but Jesus is always going
- 9:31Speaker 1: to remain the same. He was the same yesterday, he
- 9:35Speaker 1: is the same today, and he is the same in
- 9:37Speaker 1: the future. He has never changed, not from the very
- 9:40Speaker 1: beginning of time, and he's not going to change. Jesus
- 9:44Speaker 1: is a constant in our lives. When human beings are not.
- 9:48Speaker 1: And because Jesus is a constant, we should not be
- 9:51Speaker 1: carried away by various and strange teachings. For it is
- 9:55Speaker 1: good that the heart be established by grace, not by
- 9:59Speaker 1: foods through which those who were so occupied were not benefited. Now,
- 10:03Speaker 1: this is a big problem in the churches today. Jesus
- 10:06Speaker 1: is the one constant in our lives. He's always going
- 10:09Speaker 1: to be the same. So whenever something new comes into
- 10:13Speaker 1: the church, we need to double and triple check it
- 10:17Speaker 1: to make sure that it aligns with Jesus, that it
- 10:21Speaker 1: aligns with the gospel message. The Gospel is always going
- 10:25Speaker 1: to be the same, so if some kind of new
- 10:28Speaker 1: and interesting teaching comes up, we need to check it
- 10:32Speaker 1: with the constant that is Scripture. So don't be led
- 10:34Speaker 1: astray by all sorts of various teachings. And there is
- 10:38Speaker 1: there are so many bizarre teachings out there. You might
- 10:40Speaker 1: have heard about some of them from this podcast, actually,
- 10:42Speaker 1: because every once in a while I'll talk about a
- 10:45Speaker 1: brand new, really bizarre teaching that I heard about, so
- 10:48Speaker 1: that is really niche, but people believe it and it's crazy.
- 10:52Speaker 1: One of the more recent ones was I was talking
- 10:53Speaker 1: about Praterism. I never even considered that something like that
- 10:56Speaker 1: could exist until I went down the rabbit hole and
- 10:59Speaker 1: realized that there are a lot of pratists out there.
- 11:01Speaker 1: And if you have no clue what I'm talking about,
- 11:03Speaker 1: I will link in the description in the episode where
- 11:05Speaker 1: I talked about praatorists and why I do not believe
- 11:09Speaker 1: that praatism is true or real. So that'll be in
- 11:13Speaker 1: the description. But there was another teaching I heard about
- 11:15Speaker 1: just recently that I never considered before. I heard that
- 11:19Speaker 1: the Holy Spirit. That people believe that the Holy Spirit
- 11:23Speaker 1: is female because apparently the word for Holy Spirit is
- 11:28Speaker 1: feminine in nature, kind of like in Spanish where they
- 11:30Speaker 1: have like feminine nouns and they have masculine nouns. Well,
- 11:33Speaker 1: apparently in Hebrew they kind of have the same thing
- 11:35Speaker 1: going on. And so the word for Holy Spirit, which
- 11:39Speaker 1: I believe is nayfish, apparently is a feminine word. So
- 11:42Speaker 1: people are saying the Holy Spirit must be a female
- 11:46Speaker 1: because of this feminine word used to describe the Holy Spirit.
- 11:51Speaker 1: And so I researched this and it fell flat on
- 11:54Speaker 1: its face when Jesus called the Holy Spirit a he
- 11:58Speaker 1: So I'm going to believe the words of Jesus before
- 12:01Speaker 1: I believe the words of any other teacher on the
- 12:05Speaker 1: planet that might want to say that the Holy Spirit
- 12:07Speaker 1: is a female. If Jesus calls the Holy Spirit a he,
- 12:11Speaker 1: then certainly he is a he. So it didn't take
- 12:15Speaker 1: me very long to come to that conclusion because I
- 12:17Speaker 1: double checked it with Scripture to see what Jesus, the
- 12:21Speaker 1: constant in my life, has to say about the Holy Spirit.
- 12:25Speaker 1: And we need to do this for any kind of
- 12:27Speaker 1: you know, new type of theology that could come into
- 12:30Speaker 1: the church, double and triple check it with the constant
- 12:34Speaker 1: in our life, which is Scripture. I believe wholeheartedly that
- 12:38Speaker 1: Scripture is the truth. And you might be like, Jen,
- 12:41Speaker 1: how have you come to the conclusion that Scripture is
- 12:43Speaker 1: the truth? Because I have seen too much too many times.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Scripture just come true for me when I take the
- 12:51Speaker 1: advice from Scripture. It is the best advice out there.
- 12:55Speaker 1: It comes true right in front of my eyes when
- 12:58Speaker 1: I pray to God and ask him for help in
- 13:02Speaker 1: my life, and then I'm given a passage of Scripture
- 13:05Speaker 1: that completely, one hundred percent relates to everything that's going on.
- 13:09Speaker 1: That is evidence to me that Scripture is the truth.
- 13:13Speaker 1: When I call on God and he answers me, and
- 13:16Speaker 1: I see his attributes, you know how He's faithful and
- 13:19Speaker 1: he's good, and he's a father and he disciplines. I
- 13:22Speaker 1: see these things play out in my own life. Then
- 13:24Speaker 1: I realize what the scriptures say about God the Father
- 13:27Speaker 1: is certainly the truth. So that is how I have
- 13:31Speaker 1: come to the conclusion the faith so wholeheartedly that Scripture
- 13:34Speaker 1: is the truth, and it's a constant truth. So we
- 13:37Speaker 1: need as Christians. If you claim to believe the Bible,
- 13:42Speaker 1: if you say I am a Christian, that means you
- 13:44Speaker 1: believe the Bible. If you do not believe the Bible
- 13:47Speaker 1: and you claim to be a Christian, then you're not
- 13:48Speaker 1: really a Christian. You're just a Christian in name only.
- 13:51Speaker 1: If you say you're a Christian, that means you believe
- 13:53Speaker 1: the truths of the Bible. So as Christians, we have
- 13:57Speaker 1: to double check all theology with scripture. And this is
- 14:01Speaker 1: a good thing to do. And it doesn't matter who
- 14:03Speaker 1: is preaching this new type of theology, whether it's a
- 14:06Speaker 1: pastor or a prophet, or a podcaster or a YouTuber
- 14:10Speaker 1: or a minister or Paul says, even an angel from
- 14:13Speaker 1: heaven if they preach something that is not in line
- 14:17Speaker 1: with scripture. Paul actually said these exact words, to let
- 14:21Speaker 1: them be cursed. God is going to curse them for
- 14:24Speaker 1: preaching something that God himself did not say, because again,
- 14:28Speaker 1: Jesus is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. Scripture is
- 14:33Speaker 1: a constant truth. So that being said, in the days
- 14:37Speaker 1: that the Book of Hebrews was written, there are a
- 14:40Speaker 1: lot of Judaizers that were coming into the church and
- 14:44Speaker 1: bringing bad theology in. And people respected these Judaizers because
- 14:50Speaker 1: they claim to believe in Jesus. They said, oh, yes,
- 14:52Speaker 1: Jesus is definitely the way. He is definitely the way
- 14:54Speaker 1: to the Father. But you kind of have to do
- 14:57Speaker 1: all this other stuff too. You got to make sure
- 15:00Speaker 1: that you're doing everything perfectly. You got to get circumcised,
- 15:03Speaker 1: you got to eat certain foods and not eat other foods,
- 15:06Speaker 1: and you know all that, plus Jesus is going to
- 15:09Speaker 1: truly gain you salvation. If you only believe in Jesus,
- 15:12Speaker 1: well that's not enough. And that's what these Judaizers were doing.
- 15:17Speaker 1: And so the author of Hebrews specifically calls this out.
- 15:21Speaker 1: He says, don't be carried away by various and strange teachings.
- 15:25Speaker 1: For it is good that the heart be established by grace,
- 15:27Speaker 1: not by foods through which those who are so occupied
- 15:31Speaker 1: were not benefited. So food benefits us nothing when it
- 15:34Speaker 1: comes to spiritual things. It might benefit our bodies, like physically,
- 15:39Speaker 1: you know, there's certain foods that we should and shouldn't
- 15:42Speaker 1: eat right at certain times. But it only benefits our body,
- 15:45Speaker 1: it does not benefit our souls. And yet these Judaizers
- 15:49Speaker 1: said that certain foods would benefit the people's souls. So
- 15:53Speaker 1: the author says, avoid these people because they're not being
- 15:55Speaker 1: spiritually helped by any of these foods that they're eating.
- 15:59Speaker 1: And then the author kind of goes into that point
- 16:01Speaker 1: a little bit more about these foods. He says, in
- 16:04Speaker 1: verse ten, we have an altar from which those who
- 16:07Speaker 1: serve the Holy Tabernacle have no right to eat. So
- 16:11Speaker 1: what the heck is the author talking about here? And
- 16:14Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie. When I first read this, I'm like,
- 16:15Speaker 1: what is this talking about? I have no clue. Well,
- 16:19Speaker 1: the best way to describe this is we, or us Christians,
- 16:25Speaker 1: have an altar that belongs to Christians, from which those
- 16:31Speaker 1: in other words, the Pharisees or the Judaizers who serve
- 16:34Speaker 1: the Holy Tabernacle have no right to eat from. So
- 16:39Speaker 1: we have an alter that belongs to us that they
- 16:42Speaker 1: have no part in. Essentially, and what is the altar
- 16:45Speaker 1: that us Christians have, Well, the altar is the cross.
- 16:49Speaker 1: That is where Jesus was sacrificed. You know, an altar
- 16:52Speaker 1: if you think about it, was the place where the
- 16:54Speaker 1: animal would die and be sacrificed as an offering to God.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Jesus had the same thing happened to him on the cross.
- 17:02Speaker 1: So the cross, if you think about it, is an
- 17:04Speaker 1: altar to us because Jesus was our sacrifice for sin.
- 17:09Speaker 1: He paid the price of our sins on that cross.
- 17:14Speaker 1: So we Christians partake in that offering. But those who
- 17:17Speaker 1: don't accept it, they don't have any right to eat
- 17:21Speaker 1: from that alter because they don't believe in the sacrifice
- 17:25Speaker 1: of Jesus. Even if these people were trying to go
- 17:28Speaker 1: into the early Church and say, oh, yes, you know,
- 17:31Speaker 1: I believe in Jesus, but I'm going to teach all
- 17:34Speaker 1: this other junk that has nothing to do with the gospel.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Even though they claim to believe in Jesus, they don't
- 17:41Speaker 1: have a right to partake in the sacrifice of Jesus.
- 17:44Speaker 1: And why is this Well, because they don't really believe
- 17:47Speaker 1: in the Gospel message. They believe in their stuff while
- 17:51Speaker 1: throwing Jesus in there. You have to believe in the
- 17:54Speaker 1: Gospel message. If you claim to be a Christian, then
- 17:56Speaker 1: that means you believe in the Gospel message. If you
- 18:00Speaker 1: don't believe in the Gospel message, then you are not
- 18:03Speaker 1: a Christian. That's all there is to it. And that's
- 18:05Speaker 1: what the author is saying here. It says in verse eleven,
- 18:08Speaker 1: for the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought
- 18:11Speaker 1: into the Holy Place by the high priests an offering
- 18:13Speaker 1: for sin, are burned outside of the camp. So now,
- 18:16Speaker 1: in order to understand what the author is talking about here,
- 18:18Speaker 1: you got to go back to Leviticus, chapter six and
- 18:21Speaker 1: also Exodus twenty nine to learn about this particular sacrifice.
- 18:26Speaker 1: It says in Leviticus six thirty, no sin offering of
- 18:29Speaker 1: which any of the blood is brought into the tent
- 18:32Speaker 1: of meeting to make atonement in the Holy Place shall
- 18:36Speaker 1: be eaten. It shall be burned with fire. And then
- 18:39Speaker 1: in Exodus twenty nine it says verse fourteen, it says,
- 18:43Speaker 1: but the meat of the bull in its skin, and
- 18:45Speaker 1: it's dung you shall burn with fire outside of the camp.
- 18:48Speaker 1: It is a sin offering. So the author of Hebrews
- 18:51Speaker 1: is basically saying that Jesus is emulating this type of offering.
- 18:55Speaker 1: And what is this type of offering, Well, it's a
- 18:57Speaker 1: sin offering. Obviously, Jesus was a sin offering for us.
- 19:02Speaker 1: In other words, he took our sins on that cross
- 19:05Speaker 1: and saved us from them. But even more importantly, this
- 19:08Speaker 1: type of sin offering was the most holy sin offering.
- 19:12Speaker 1: This was the sin offering that went inside of the
- 19:15Speaker 1: tent of meeting, inside of the tabernacle, where the priest
- 19:19Speaker 1: would take the blood of that sin offering and go
- 19:23Speaker 1: and sprinkle that blood inside the most holy place and
- 19:27Speaker 1: cleanse the objects inside that tabernacle or tent of meeting.
- 19:32Speaker 1: This was the most holy sacrifice that could ever exist.
- 19:36Speaker 1: It wasn't just for one individual person, but it was
- 19:40Speaker 1: for everything. It was for the priests, it was for
- 19:44Speaker 1: the tent of meeting, it was for the entire nation
- 19:47Speaker 1: of Israel. This was the most holy sin offering that
- 19:50Speaker 1: could possibly exist. And with this particular sin offering, the
- 19:54Speaker 1: bull was not allowed to be eaten by the priests
- 19:57Speaker 1: at all, it had to be burned outside of the camp.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Only the blood was allowed to come inside of the
- 20:03Speaker 1: most holy place, but the bull itself was burned outside
- 20:07Speaker 1: of the camp, because that bull was given completely to God.
- 20:11Speaker 1: And so Jesus emulated this type of most holy sacrifice.
- 20:15Speaker 1: It says right here in Hebrews thirteen, verse twelve. Therefore,
- 20:18Speaker 1: Jesus also that he might sanctify the people through his
- 20:21Speaker 1: own blood, suffered outside of the gate, so he did
- 20:24Speaker 1: not die in Jerusalem. He died outside of Jerusalem, again
- 20:28Speaker 1: showing how much Jesus emulated the most holy sin offering.
- 20:33Speaker 1: And because Jesus emulated that, there are people that are
- 20:36Speaker 1: not allowed to eat of that altar, specifically the people
- 20:41Speaker 1: who refuse to believe in Jesus, specifically the ones who
- 20:45Speaker 1: might claim the name of Jesus but don't actually believe
- 20:47Speaker 1: in him at all. Now, of course, everybody who believes
- 20:50Speaker 1: in Jesus do have a right to Jesus's sacrifice, but
- 20:54Speaker 1: those who refuse to believe in Jesus do not have
- 20:57Speaker 1: that same right. Foods the Judaizers in the days of
- 21:02Speaker 1: the Hebrews who said, oh, yes, we believe in Jesus
- 21:06Speaker 1: but didn't actually follow any of the Gospel message. But
- 21:09Speaker 1: we Christians who really do believe in Jesus have a
- 21:12Speaker 1: right to partake in the offering of Jesus, it says
- 21:15Speaker 1: in verse thirteen. Therefore, let's go out to him outside
- 21:19Speaker 1: of the camp, bearing his reproach, for we don't have
- 21:23Speaker 1: here an enduring city, but we seek that which is
- 21:26Speaker 1: to come. So just as Jesus went outside of the
- 21:30Speaker 1: camp was outside of Jerusalem, we also have to kind
- 21:33Speaker 1: of separate ourselves from the teachings of the world and
- 21:38Speaker 1: go outside of the camp with Jesus, if that makes sense,
- 21:43Speaker 1: bearing his reproach with him. Christians are not to be
- 21:47Speaker 1: like the rest of the world, so that means they
- 21:49Speaker 1: become a holy They basically separate themselves, because that is
- 21:52Speaker 1: what the word holy means. Jesus actually was the most
- 21:56Speaker 1: holy sacrifice, the most separated, and like Jesus, we also
- 22:00Speaker 1: have to separate ourselves, not believing in various and strange teachings,
- 22:05Speaker 1: but sticking to the truth and the constant of the
- 22:08Speaker 1: Gospel message. That is how we separate ourselves from the
- 22:11Speaker 1: rest of the world and partake in the sacrifice of Jesus.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Well faithful listeners. I hope that this episode it made
- 22:20Speaker 1: sense to you, and I appreciate all of you listening
- 22:22Speaker 1: to the very end. Now, before I say goodbye to
- 22:24Speaker 1: all of you, guys, please listen to this one last
- 22:26Speaker 1: sponsored ad and then I will be back after that.
- 22:31Speaker 1: So the moral of the story of what we read
- 22:32Speaker 1: today in Hebrews thirteen is to double check any theology
- 22:36Speaker 1: that you hear with scripture. Double check it. If you
- 22:40Speaker 1: believe in the promises of Jesus, then you have to
- 22:42Speaker 1: believe what he is saying. So this means anything that
- 22:46Speaker 1: comes into your life, whether it's worship music, whether it's
- 22:49Speaker 1: preaching that you hear online, whether it's a sermon at
- 22:52Speaker 1: your church. You're supposed to double and triple check all
- 22:55Speaker 1: of these things with the constant of scripture. Separate yourself
- 22:59Speaker 1: from the world and what the world is doing. You know,
- 23:02Speaker 1: the church gets into trouble way too often because they
- 23:05Speaker 1: don't separate themselves. They don't go outside of the camp.
- 23:09Speaker 1: They stay inside the camp and kind of try to,
- 23:12Speaker 1: you know, be seeker sensitive is what they call themselves
- 23:15Speaker 1: a lot of times, by not talking about sin, by
- 23:17Speaker 1: sometimes encouraging sin, or maybe just being sort of loosey
- 23:22Speaker 1: goosey about certain things that they should be more strict about.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Sometimes the churches will promote people and things and music
- 23:28Speaker 1: that just do not align with scripture. And that is
- 23:32Speaker 1: how the American Church has gotten themselves in the trouble
- 23:35Speaker 1: that they're in because they don't separate themselves from the world.
- 23:39Speaker 1: But on the flip side, you also can't separate yourself
- 23:42Speaker 1: too much from the world, because you have to go
- 23:44Speaker 1: into the world and be a light. And then Jesus
- 23:47Speaker 1: in the Sermon on the Mount he said, we are
- 23:49Speaker 1: supposed to shine our light in a very dark world,
- 23:52Speaker 1: so we can't hide our lights under the bushel. We
- 23:55Speaker 1: have to shine out for all to see. So we
- 23:58Speaker 1: have to separate ourselves from world. In other words, the
- 24:01Speaker 1: bad theology and the sin of the world. But if
- 24:03Speaker 1: we kind of stay in our own little bubble and
- 24:06Speaker 1: refuse to evangelize, refuse to shine our lights, then that
- 24:09Speaker 1: is also dangerous as well. And unfortunately, churches seem to
- 24:13Speaker 1: fall into one of two camps a lot of times.
- 24:16Speaker 1: They're either too much like the world and refuse to
- 24:18Speaker 1: remove themselves from the camp, or they are hiding their
- 24:21Speaker 1: lights under a bushel and will not share the grace
- 24:25Speaker 1: and love of Jesus with other people. So we have
- 24:28Speaker 1: to be a Christian that kind of finds the fine
- 24:30Speaker 1: line between those two things, not being swayed by every theology,
- 24:35Speaker 1: by every prophet, by every doctrine that comes into our church,
- 24:39Speaker 1: but triple checking all of these things with scripture. And
- 24:42Speaker 1: all of us are able to do that. Every single
- 24:45Speaker 1: person listening to this podcast has the ability to go
- 24:48Speaker 1: into scripture and discern from right and wrong. If I
- 24:51Speaker 1: can do it, if Jen can do it, the girl
- 24:53Speaker 1: that has no education whatsoever, that I didn't even finish
- 24:57Speaker 1: my college degree. If I can do it, then you
- 24:59Speaker 1: guys can do it too. It says in the Book
- 25:01Speaker 1: of Acts. I believe it was Acts chapter four that
- 25:03Speaker 1: the Pharisees were astounded at the teaching of the disciples
- 25:07Speaker 1: because the disciples were unschooled. Men. You don't have to
- 25:11Speaker 1: have a big education or a theology degree or a
- 25:14Speaker 1: philosophy degree to understand what scripture has to say. You
- 25:18Speaker 1: just have to read it and allow the Holy Spirit
- 25:20Speaker 1: to really guide your life. Then you'll be able to
- 25:23Speaker 1: see and understand what it says. Faithful listeners, I hope
- 25:25Speaker 1: you have a fantastic and wonderful rest of your day.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Make sure to check out the other episodes that I
- 25:30Speaker 1: have in the description related to this one and all
- 25:33Speaker 1: the other things that I do here on the Bible

- 25:38Speaker 1: episode from Nehemiah. Until then, happy listening and God bless.
