- 0:00One of those realities you have more, but now we have 294.
- 0:04It's play. It should be managim.
- 0:05Literally. It means a person being portish,
- 0:10abstaining or separating himself when it comes to socializing.
- 0:15That means it's ported Uddvi by della Menacheva Ahmedinit person
- 0:20who can separate himself from the heva from the group the
- 0:23panodly ball to therefore be able to clear his mind and turn
- 0:27himself. I love without the serve Hashem
- 0:29with bon anout Bakaroy and to properly in the right frame of
- 0:32mind for service of Hashem. Another type of issue this when
- 0:36someone somewhat we need to figure out how seclude
- 0:41themselves socially. What does this mean This is a
- 0:43very dangerous area. Let's see.
- 0:45Oh, but tonight and he gives us a warning, a condition you're
- 0:49not allowed to go to an extreme when it comes to socially
- 0:57secluding yourself. Basically hermit.
- 1:00A person's mindset, a person's way should be mixed in with
- 1:11other people. There's a sword on those who
- 1:17hate those who learn to alone Shioshwim bad badvoskimbatura to
- 1:27be overly secluded in any area, even as a Jew, even as a very
- 1:31observant Jew, is very bad. Elliot Chabede haidame matovim
- 1:36You should socialize, should have friends with those who are
- 1:39good ziman ma a certain amount of time, which will help you
- 1:45living with all for the sake of your learning.
- 1:48Lupana Satov For the sake of income, a person should have
- 1:51some connections as some degree of separation.
- 1:54We'll get the exact what this means in a minute with Boded
- 1:57Akhaka. After you have a certain amount
- 2:00of connections in social life, you then separate laid the big
- 2:04bail or cave to therefore connect the Hashem ulaha seek
- 2:08and to reach the Kea Yoshi the right way.
- 2:11The Abu Dhabi didn't way to serve Hashem, so our job is to
- 2:16be both secluded and socialized at the same time, to have
- 2:21friends and be on our own at the same time.
- 2:24What is this exactly? Don't go to an extreme either
- 2:27way. So here's his point.
- 2:28And he says the purpose of this seclusion, the purpose of this
- 2:32idea is that you can serve some better.
- 2:35Or does that mean so I think the breakdown of the mindset is as
- 2:39follows. An important point is a
- 2:42breakdown ideas like this. If you are a very social person,
- 2:48you like being around people, great.
- 2:51You like having a lot of friends, wonderful.
- 2:54But if you think along with other people, you face the
- 2:57obvious challenges, which are if I think along with them, I need
- 3:02to be relevant in their minds. I need to make sure that my
- 3:05opinion jives with all their opinions.
- 3:07I need to make sure that I fit and my mold is something they're
- 3:10all going to like and accept. These are the issues that come
- 3:14along with being an overly social person.
- 3:17In fact, to be a socially dependent person, it leads to
- 3:20these problems. Social dependent means you're a
- 3:23person that needs to be fully in the right frame with everyone
- 3:28around you and your everyone to be good with you and your
- 3:31everyone to basically see you as part of the crew.
- 3:34It leads to a major problem. And that is usually if you look
- 3:37around the people who are very much part of crews for a long
- 3:41time and that's sort of mindset, you don't move.
- 3:44They remain the same. And the reason they remain the
- 3:46same is because they're very cognizant and careful about
- 3:49remaining part of that crew and they're afraid to go either way.
- 3:54And to be any different than that group.
- 3:56Now, having friends for a long time is a great thing.
- 3:59And we all want to have a crew that we have with us for a long
- 4:02time. We want to have that in our
- 4:03whole life. Our friends we can turn turn to
- 4:06and stuff like that. So you have to have this
- 4:08balance. What is the balance?
- 4:09You need to be an independent minded person along with
- 4:12friends. Independent minded means
- 4:16socially. I'm good with having my own way
- 4:18of thinking, I'm perfectly OK with being in this area on my
- 4:24own, and I'm going to have an approach to life that no one
- 4:27else around me has. Nothing wrong with that.
- 4:29In fact, that's a good thing. Every one of us by now should
- 4:32have a very independent mold. If I look at another guy will
- 4:36not see the same as you. I won't see the same as she
- 4:38taught. I won't see the same hash kafa.
- 4:41I won't see the same development of children.
- 4:43I'm going to see a different mold than you than anybody else.
- 4:46Even though you have a lot of friends that takes this balance
- 4:49and the balance is you're independent minded, but you're
- 4:52social. That's a perfect balance.
- 4:55Now if a person takes it to an extreme and he takes his mind
- 4:59says I want to be independent and therefore I'm not going to
- 5:01socialize other people because they see different things in my
- 5:03state. They have different thoughts
- 5:05than I thought. Think the fear is you're going
- 5:09to be alone. When a person's alone in them
- 5:12praying alone in their mindset, they all, every single one of
- 5:16them pretty much start to go off the deep end.
- 5:20It is our mind alone leads us to funny places where our opinion,
- 5:25eventually a sin leads us to start thinking our own thoughts,
- 5:30start rationalizing our own mindsets.
- 5:32And you do things that would not be accepted among the public.
- 5:36And that's actually a very dangerous area as well.
- 5:38So you have two extremes that are problematic I've seen.
- 5:41Number one is if you're too social and your brain thinks
- 5:45along with remaining social and everything you do, whether we
- 5:49realize it or not, feeds into remaining in that position or
- 5:53getting better in that position socially.
- 5:56And if you're too independent minded, or if you live too
- 5:59alone, then a person, everything he does feeds into his head,
- 6:03which goes on its own and goes to funny places because that's
- 6:06how it works. Our mind alone, our own self
- 6:10alone leaves a strange place. You can have a person that
- 6:12learns to that all day actually. And if you learn to that alone,
- 6:17there's no one to answer to, no one to discuss it with.
- 6:20The camel tells us very dangerous.
- 6:22There are a few that did it and succeeded, but generally it's
- 6:25quite dangerous. You know why?
- 6:26I dropped that for the first time when that time when my mom
- 6:29was in the hospital for a long time.
- 6:31And I used to do the night shifts and arounds, I don't
- 6:34know, maybe 1:30 in the morning when the rest of the world goes
- 6:37off the grid and you can't even text somebody and you're alone.
- 6:40Yeah. And your mind starts to.
- 6:42Well. It's quite a funny place.
- 6:43It's 100% and this is it's, it's your challenge.
- 6:46Say the person is doing so for religious reasons, but what's
- 6:50happening is that he starts thinking.
- 6:53That's play out how it works. A lot of times people naturally
- 6:57start to think things and make themselves feel better or make
- 7:02them feel greater than everyone else and make them feel like
- 7:05they're building their own world.
- 7:07And before you know what, they're completely off the grid
- 7:09and they're piling on and piling on to this mindset and they're
- 7:13nuts. And it's all because they're
- 7:16alone. Now what happens is when you're
- 7:17with other people, people automatically bring you back
- 7:21down to earth. People automatically, you know,
- 7:24rationalize it rationally, give you rational thoughts or they
- 7:26make you have to bounce it off with the common folk and make
- 7:30someone normal. Even a rabbi per SE, right,
- 7:33could have she taught, could have opinions.
- 7:36When he works it through through the community, his opinions
- 7:40become actually finer, more work out actually better.
- 7:47And he said one second, he's studying to it all day.
- 7:49Why would his opinions get better when he's dealing with
- 7:53laymen or dealing with regular people and he's discussing with
- 7:55them? The reality is, is that by
- 7:58applying it to the world and then taking it back, however it
- 8:02works, there's certain normalcy that always remains our
- 8:06opinions. And you see what I'm saying?
- 8:07But the world keeps changing and maybe the opinions keep
- 8:09changing. No, there's some sort of system
- 8:12that allows that are with other people.
- 8:14Everything we do is better. Everything you, you bounce it
- 8:18off of other people, everything. Your family is great for you.
- 8:21Your friends are great for you in the right way.
- 8:24Your broader family is amazing for you.
- 8:26Your community is great for you again, but all these things only
- 8:30solid and good for you so long as you have a mindset that says
- 8:34I'd like to be independent. The balance of being independent
- 8:38that's social is the greatest thing out there.
- 8:42One extreme, no good, too independent off the grid, too
- 8:46social, nothing. Just another guy.
- 8:49Why you need the thermometer. You need to literally be yes.
- 8:51And you do. And you find over time you
- 8:53figure it out. You should have your own mold.
- 8:55Everyone of us by now our Shabbat tables should look
- 8:58different than each other. Our conversations with our wives
- 9:01should be different. Do we raise?
- 9:03Our children are meant to be different.
- 9:06Our opinions about what goes on in the community are expected to
- 9:09be different. They should be.
- 9:11You don't want everyone to have the same opinion.
- 9:13If you have that, you have nothing.
- 9:14You have cookie cutter and eventually have.
- 9:16There's nothing special. Everything unique comes I'm
- 9:20independence. But that independence is only
- 9:22true when it's a healthy independence.
- 9:25How do you have a healthy independence?
- 9:27With a social life, with people around you, with a wife, with
- 9:31family, but those who you can bounce it around with, and it
- 9:34always becomes a stronger, finer idea.
- 9:38Every one of us have ideas. And you build your business.
- 9:40You build it with ideas, right? If you took that idea to the
- 9:44moon alone, it would be nutty. You take it.
- 9:48You bounce it around with other people.
- 9:50Again, you're the main driver of that idea.
- 9:52You're the one who has it. You're the one who's going to
- 9:54take it all the way. You're the one who's going to
- 9:55build it. But it gets more solid, it gets
- 9:58stronger, it gets worked through.
- 10:00When I do to other people and I have ideas myself personally, I
- 10:03automatically call someone, I bounce it around, I debate it
- 10:08back and forth back and. Forth for the same person every
- 10:11time or the type of idea. Very much depends on the type.
- 10:14I do not have one person I I can't even think of the person
- 10:17to mine right now have. A hatred chat.
- 10:19No, no, because we have different opinions.
- 10:22My brothers and I, it's good. We have different opinions very
- 10:24much. Right.
- 10:25If they don't already do it, then the you know what I mean?
- 10:28So you have to go there. That's our.
- 10:30I mean, I, I got to tell you honestly, remember that Joey
- 10:32from the beginning, for years, I said this before, after his
- 10:35speech, he's sit down with us, no older brother more than me
- 10:38and idolize and and analyze it and bounce it around and take
- 10:42the heat at times. He was willing and accepting of
- 10:45taking the heat and because of that, he perfected and perfected
- 10:48perfected. So it's an important thing.
- 10:50And, you know, there are people who live in what do they call an
- 10:53echo chamber, live in the own bubble.
- 10:55And you follow how they don't change anymore.
- 10:58There was a time that they changed.
- 10:59He doesn't need this anymore. He anyway happens to be
- 11:02everybody, happens to be very sensitive to criticism, both
- 11:07accepting and sensitive at the same time.
- 11:09That always makes him better, all right?
- 11:11He accepts it because it gets taken aback by hearing it.
- 11:15And that makes him finer and finer.
- 11:16But there are many people out there who have echo chamber that
- 11:19is they only are willing to hear people who say the same thing as
- 11:22them, who tell you they're great.
- 11:24I, I'm not a person personally who can handle the real Chris.
- 11:27I'll be honest with you. I don't like to be insulted.
- 11:30I don't like it. I don't.
- 11:32If someone gives me criticism, I want to hear in a positive tone.
- 11:36Let's talk to. Constructive I cannot take being
- 11:38beat down honestly, I never never worked for me as a kid or
- 11:42work me down now I can't take. I don't think it works on
- 11:45anybody. No, I.
- 11:46Think so when you come from the negative.
- 11:48I. Agree.
- 11:48I think it's you're tearing a guy's skin off, Yeah.
- 11:52On that note, by the way, I find that whenever someone says, you
- 11:55know, you always do this right at a negative tone, what's the
- 11:59problem with you always do? The problem with you always do
- 12:03is if you think about it for a minute, that means you're
- 12:04telling me for the last three years I've made the same
- 12:08mistake. He told me for the last three
- 12:10years the classes have had this flaw, right?
- 12:12You can't say it that way. Even if it's true, Of course
- 12:14it's true. He said it more.
- 12:16I said, listen, I think you can take it another step if you you
- 12:20incorporate a little bit more, I don't know, a little bit more
- 12:23insight or not be Indian teacher, whatever you want to
- 12:27say exactly. But the mind cities, we do need
- 12:31to have those around us very important to make us solid and
- 12:35healthy. We need to have a social life.
- 12:37We need to have those who opinions merit us need to bounce
- 12:40it around. But you and I have to be
- 12:43independent. If you're not independent, you
- 12:46become mush. You become like the other guy.
- 12:49And nothing that you did special in your life would have ever
- 12:51happened if you weren't independent.
- 12:53All right, have a great day. This is the reality, and this
- 12:56has become our reality. This combo, this bouncing around
- 13:00has to become our way. And it can make us stronger,
- 13:03healthier. And the best people are those
- 13:06who can do those too. I give another example is that
- 13:09for some reason they cannot understand now why, but as a
- 13:13child growing up, my father used to bounce around questions us
- 13:17parish it by the table community scenarios is this couple, we
- 13:22were kids by the way, 1011 years old, 12 years old.
- 13:25This is his family. They're going through this.
- 13:26Let's say I give you a random example.
- 13:28They have a child and they're debating to send the kid to this
- 13:31school or that school. You know, this one's more
- 13:33religious for them, but it's not on their level.
- 13:36It's 'cause it's not even this is a challenge they brought.
- 13:40What do you guys think? And we used to bounce it around,
- 13:43no names of course, but that's around.
- 13:45That's a great item. And at the time I never.
- 13:48Really. For where you are today.
- 13:50Yeah, that's really what it was. And I fought him, but he had a
- 13:53very much a tone of taking other people's opinions, very much
- 13:57very exciting other people's opinions to the fullest extreme.
- 14:00And it was it maybe a humble mindset ever was.
- 14:03Maybe it came from humility, I'm not sure.
- 14:05But it also was like, you're dealing with the public.
- 14:06You got you. Got to.
- 14:08Ask the public. And at the same time, my father
- 14:10was probably the most confident man will ever know, which is you
- 14:13have to have a degree and also independent.
- 14:16Everything you did was independent thinking.
- 14:18Who's is this? Who's his teacher?
- 14:19Who's is that? He had a lot of teachers along
- 14:21the way, but ultimately, here's his own hand.
- 14:24He wouldn't even ask that much. Here's the only way of thinking.
- 14:26We have to build our own model. At the end of the day, we're
- 14:30going to have something that's strong, healthy, but it's on its
- 14:34own. How do you have that with this
- 14:35combo? That's the entire right?
- 14:38No 7 this.
