Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Ryan Bridge: Labour's fallen for Nicola's election trap
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Labour's fallen into a cunning weed trap that Nikola Willis
- 0:03Speaker 1: set a few weeks ago. She laid the bait releasing
- 0:06Speaker 1: their fiscal rules that the party would abide by if
- 0:09Speaker 1: re elected, and challenged Labour to basically you do the same.
- 0:12Speaker 1: On the weekend, Chippy and Barb took the bait and
- 0:15Speaker 1: released their own fiscal strategy. The problem for Labour is
- 0:19Speaker 1: that its strategy reveals that it wants to do exactly
- 0:22Speaker 1: the things National has been saying they want to do. Tax, borrow,
- 0:26Speaker 1: and spend more. There is a gap between what they
- 0:30Speaker 1: say they're willing to spend and what they have announced
- 0:33Speaker 1: that they will tax. There are billions of dollars they
- 0:36Speaker 1: want to spend that they haven't yet explained how they
- 0:40Speaker 1: will tax. As we've spoken about on the show and
- 0:43Speaker 1: asked about on the show many times. The interest deductibility
- 0:46Speaker 1: on rental properties is likely to wear its head again
- 0:49Speaker 1: for Labor, but even that wouldn't be enough to cover
- 0:52Speaker 1: their plans, which plays International's attax and the entire basis
- 0:57Speaker 1: of their campaign, which is that you can't trust Labor
- 0:59Speaker 1: not to tax the Jesus out of you and leave
- 1:02Speaker 1: you broke in an election campaign unanswered questions. The void
- 1:06Speaker 1: is filled by noise. To be in control of a campaign,
- 1:09Speaker 1: you want to be making sure that the noise is
- 1:11Speaker 1: made by you and not for you by others. To
- 1:15Speaker 1: make matters worse, Labour says they won't release their fiscal
- 1:18Speaker 1: plan different from strategy, which is more detailed and fills
- 1:22Speaker 1: in the blanks till the prefeud the economic update before
- 1:25Speaker 1: the election, that's a month away, until they frontles some answers.
- 1:29Speaker 1: You can't help but look at this as a successful
- 1:33Speaker 1: election bait set trap from Nikola Willis. For more from
