- 0:17Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Israel Gutierrez is in again after another long weekend.
- 0:24Speaker 3: I'm liking this long weekend thing. This every Friday is
- 0:27Speaker 3: working out for you, huh? A one-day work week.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I love it. We'll talk to Chris Sims coming up
- 0:33Speaker 1: in hour number two. Excited for that. Izzy, what was
- 0:36Speaker 1: your feelings last night? We were talking earlier about Browns
- 0:40Speaker 1: and Steelers. The Browns win that game 27-24.
- 0:43Speaker 3: They're 3-1.
- 0:44Speaker 1: The team that Miles Garrett left is 3-1. And the
- 0:49Speaker 1: team that he joined to win a Super Bowl is 1-2.
- 0:52Speaker 1: That's the NFL. But we were saying if there's a
- 0:55Speaker 1: quarterback that's going to force us to root for Aaron Rodgers, right,
- 1:00Speaker 1: that quarterback is going to be Deshaun Watson every single time.
- 1:04Speaker 1: And so it's an impressive start for the Browns, 3-1. Nobody,
- 1:08Speaker 1: and I mean nobody, expected them to get off to
- 1:11Speaker 1: a 3-1 start. But what were your feelings?
- 1:14Speaker 3: What are your feelings on our.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Comments that that is the only matchup in which we
- 1:18Speaker 1: will root for Aaron Rodgers because he is unlikable?
- 1:21Speaker 4: I would have thrown in Tua, but those are my
- 1:23Speaker 4: own personal feelings there. It's funny that you say that
- 1:27Speaker 4: because I had the exact opposite thought.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Really?
- 1:30Speaker 4: I said to myself, wow, I'm cheering for the Browns. Now,
- 1:35Speaker 4: they had the most sort of ridiculous start with just
- 1:39Speaker 4: so many dumb penalties yesterday where I was like, How
- 1:43Speaker 4: could you like this team? Like, they're just so frustrating.
- 1:45Speaker 4: We already know that nobody really likes, nobody should like
- 1:48Speaker 4: Deshaun Watson, really. But man, Aaron Rodgers is so unlikable. Like,
- 1:54Speaker 4: on the field, to my eyes, watching him play, I
- 1:57Speaker 4: can't imagine any one of his teammates, any one of
- 2:00Speaker 4: his coaches that say, hey. That's a good dude right there.
- 2:03Speaker 4: And gives him a big old hug. I mean, you
- 2:04Speaker 4: saw the exchange with Mike McCarthy. And, you know, forever,
- 2:07Speaker 4: for the rest of time, he's going to be talking
- 2:09Speaker 4: with his hand over his mouth. Because he doesn't want
- 2:12Speaker 4: to get caught calling Aaron Rodgers what he called him yesterday.
- 2:15Speaker 4: But Aaron deserves that. Like, there have been so many
- 2:19Speaker 4: situations in so many games where, yeah, a coach gets
- 2:22Speaker 4: a play call in late, right? But for him to
- 2:25Speaker 4: just be so demonstrative... to look like such a jerk,
- 2:28Speaker 4: to basically put his coaches out there for everybody to say, hey,
- 2:32Speaker 4: his coaches must not be doing something right.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Look at Aaron.
- 2:34Speaker 4: Look how upset he is.
- 2:36Speaker 3: It's just BS to me.
- 2:38Speaker 4: It just makes him seem like he's been in this
- 2:40Speaker 4: league for so long and he knows exactly what he's doing. Like,
- 2:44Speaker 4: stop doing that. Stop undermining your coaches. And I found
- 2:48Speaker 4: myself cheering hard for the Cleveland Browns yesterday.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Not for Deshaun Watson.
- 2:52Speaker 5: Right.
- 2:52Speaker 4: For the Cleveland Browns. Like, I feel like The Browns
- 2:55Speaker 4: fans have done their job in sort of helping Deshaun Watson,
- 3:00Speaker 4: helping put him in his place for some, you know,
- 3:02Speaker 4: one way or another.
- 3:03Speaker 3: They've been hard enough on Deshaun Watson. Not hard enough.
- 3:05Speaker 4: They've been hard on him, deservedly so.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Yes.
- 3:08Speaker 4: And so now I feel like I am free to
- 3:10Speaker 4: allow my emotions to carry their own weight and just
- 3:14Speaker 4: hate on Aaron Rodgers. And it's not just what he does,
- 3:17Speaker 4: what he did yesterday, what he does on the field.
- 3:20Speaker 4: It's even like the nonsense that he talks off the field.
- 3:22Speaker 4: It's the nonsense that he talks on the McAfee show. Like,
- 3:26Speaker 4: have you ever met a guy who says stuff about
- 3:29Speaker 4: his exes publicly the way he has done recently where
- 3:32Speaker 4: it's just like, hang on a second. Why are you
- 3:34Speaker 4: talking smack about your ex-girlfriends? Have you ever seen another
- 3:39Speaker 4: quarterback say something? I want to look good because I
- 3:42Speaker 4: want my wife to bleep me. It's like, who are
- 3:45Speaker 4: you trying to be? Are you trying to join a fraternity?
- 3:51Speaker 4: Are you 18 years old?
- 3:52Speaker 3: Who is this guy?
- 3:53Speaker 4: And so there's just no element about Aaron Rodgers that
- 3:57Speaker 4: I like. He wants to be this guy who's contrary
- 4:00Speaker 4: to everything. He wants to be this guy who feels
- 4:02Speaker 4: like he knows more than everybody else. And currently, he's
- 4:07Speaker 4: a nothing. He's on a bad team playing quarterback.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Right.
- 4:12Speaker 4: And it's just like, I don't think he deserves this
- 4:14Speaker 4: license to be this jerk for this entire time. And so, yeah,
- 4:18Speaker 4: I'm going to cheer against Aaron Rodgers for the rest
- 4:20Speaker 4: of this season.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Hard.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Wow.
- 4:22Speaker 6: Izzy, I want to be very clear because I am
- 4:24Speaker 6: in your camp when it comes to Aaron Rodgers, where
- 4:26Speaker 6: Aaron Rodgers says, once I retire from football, you'll never
- 4:30Speaker 6: hear from me again.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Oh, stop it.
- 4:32Speaker 6: I'm holding him to that promise because.
- 4:35Speaker 3: I'm telling you he's going to break that promise.
- 4:37Speaker 7: Yes.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Okay.
- 4:38Speaker 6: But in defense of Aaron Rogers last night in the
- 4:41Speaker 6: first half where he has that blow up with Mike McCarthy,
- 4:44Speaker 6: this is now a trend for this Steelers team where
- 4:47Speaker 6: they're having some kind of communication issues and getting him
- 4:50Speaker 6: plays where last week against the Bengals, they had to
- 4:53Speaker 6: burn all three of their timeouts early in the first
- 4:56Speaker 6: half because something is going on with getting the plays
- 4:59Speaker 6: relayed into him. So then I think when it carries
- 5:02Speaker 6: over into Thursday Night Football, Aaron Rodgers looks at it like, hey, guys,
- 5:05Speaker 6: we knew this was a problem going into this game,
- 5:08Speaker 6: and now the frustration is boiling over into our next
- 5:12Speaker 6: game where we still haven't had the issues addressed. And also...
- 5:17Speaker 6: Mike McCarthy, he just doesn't look like an innocent guy
- 5:21Speaker 6: out there when he's coaching where he almost has like
- 5:24Speaker 6: this confused look on his face when Aaron Rodgers is
- 5:26Speaker 6: barking at him.
- 5:27Speaker 4: But for Aaron, it's all for just public display. Like,
- 5:32Speaker 4: you're a veteran. You're a grown-up. You're supposed to be
- 5:35Speaker 4: a team guy. Like, save that for the sideline. Save
- 5:37Speaker 4: it for the locker room. But when you're out here
- 5:39Speaker 4: on the field doing all this nonsense, like, you could
- 5:43Speaker 4: sort of keep it right here and just be like, hey,
- 5:45Speaker 4: call the play. You know, give him some sort of symbol.
- 5:47Speaker 4: or signal that says, hey, hurry up, but not look
- 5:51Speaker 4: like such an a-hole doing it.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Just to play the other side of this, I mean,
- 5:54Speaker 1: he did need a play called in. I mean, they're
- 5:57Speaker 1: trying to score, and he's the quarterback, and he wanted
- 6:00Speaker 1: a play.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Right, but this is coming off the heels of him saying,
- 6:03Speaker 4: it all starts with me, and then blaming his coaching staff.
- 6:06Speaker 4: So in that moment, he was just like, let me
- 6:08Speaker 4: make sure everybody knows that my coaching staff is doing
- 6:12Speaker 4: me no favors right now.
- 6:13Speaker 8: Okay.
- 6:13Speaker 6: Is this just an Aaron Rodgers issue or did you
- 6:16Speaker 6: also have issues with TJ Watt in the game where
- 6:19Speaker 6: TJ Watt is getting frustrated with members of the secondary
- 6:23Speaker 6: and then TJ Watt takes the headset to talk to
- 6:26Speaker 6: the defensive coordinator to try to get their situation situated
- 6:30Speaker 6: because Again, it felt like just a complete mess on
- 6:34Speaker 6: that Steelers sideline where everybody's just yelling at everybody. When
- 6:38Speaker 6: the Browns, I think they went into that game thinking
- 6:40Speaker 6: they were going to walk over the Browns. And the
- 6:42Speaker 6: second the Browns started fighting back, the Steelers really didn't
- 6:45Speaker 6: have any answers.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I mean, Izzy, if you're playing for that team and
- 6:47Speaker 1: the communication is not right and you have a history
- 6:49Speaker 1: of poor communication. And McCarthy does. And that Steelers staff
- 6:53Speaker 1: does because it goes back to last week. You have
- 6:55Speaker 1: to be frustrated if you're not getting the plays called
- 6:58Speaker 1: into you. Like you have to work that out before
- 7:00Speaker 1: the next game. And clearly they did not. And the
- 7:03Speaker 1: players were frustrated by it.
- 7:04Speaker 4: No, to answer your question, Taylor, it's just an Aaron
- 7:07Speaker 4: Rodgers thing for me.
- 7:08Speaker 3: And that's fine, by the way. I will say this, too.
- 7:12Speaker 3: We all know who T.J. Watt's brother is. Yes, of course.
- 7:15Speaker 4: And what is his, according to you, what is his
- 7:17Speaker 4: big reputation? He's a what guy? He's a me, me,
- 7:20Speaker 4: me guy. He's a look at me guy. So TJ
- 7:22Speaker 4: might have gotten a little bit of that from his brother.
- 7:25Speaker 3: It might run in the veins. He learned from Big Bro. Yes.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Can you root for the Browns without rooting for Deshaun Watson?
- 7:32Speaker 3: Great question, man.
- 7:34Speaker 4: Great question.
- 7:35Speaker 3: It's so hard.
- 7:37Speaker 4: If he is playing sort of mediocre football. Yes.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Which he is.
- 7:42Speaker 4: Then yes.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Right.
- 7:43Speaker 4: Because it's not just him carrying them. It's not like
- 7:46Speaker 4: you're saying, phew, Watson got us out of that mess.
- 7:49Speaker 4: He's just, you know, calling the plays and hitting pretty
- 7:52Speaker 4: much wide open guys for the most part. But yeah,
- 7:56Speaker 4: I think the way they're playing now. when it's not
- 7:59Speaker 4: all him doing, you know, carrying them.
- 8:01Speaker 1: I think it's, you can, you can cheer for them,
- 8:03Speaker 1: but you find yourself getting behind the Browns because that
- 8:06Speaker 1: fan base has been through it.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Right.
- 8:08Speaker 1: And so they have four weeks of feel good here
- 8:10Speaker 1: where they're three in one. They weren't expecting to be
- 8:12Speaker 1: three in one. They don't know what to do. They're conflicted.
- 8:16Speaker 1: They have, they have told us how they feel about
- 8:18Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson, but, They care about the Browns more. They
- 8:21Speaker 1: care about themselves more. They feel good more, and they
- 8:23Speaker 1: feel pretty good right now, and they should. I was
- 8:25Speaker 1: pretty shocked.
- 8:26Speaker 4: I'm not normally shocked when announcers drop stats on a broadcast,
- 8:31Speaker 4: mostly because you usually hear these things going into a
- 8:34Speaker 4: game anyway. But I don't know if I just hadn't
- 8:36Speaker 4: been listening to Browns conversations, and you can't blame me
- 8:39Speaker 4: if I haven't. But the idea that they haven't won
- 8:42Speaker 4: a division title... since the days of Bernie Kosar was
- 8:47Speaker 4: absolutely a jaw-dropping situation for me. I was just like,
- 8:51Speaker 4: that can't be. Divisions are a nothing story. You can
- 8:55Speaker 4: accidentally win a division. Didn't the Dolphins accidentally win the
- 8:58Speaker 4: AFC East one year with Chad Pennington? Did they win
- 9:00Speaker 4: it that year?
- 9:01Speaker 3: They did.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Chad Pennington was the runner-up for MVP. Brady went down
- 9:04Speaker 1: with an Achilles.
- 9:04Speaker 7: I believe.
- 9:06Speaker 4: It's a nothing season because they didn't win a playoff game,
- 9:08Speaker 4: but yet they did that. And yet the Browns are
- 9:11Speaker 4: still longtime sufferers. That one was wild.
- 9:13Speaker 3: The Browns are 3-1 for the first time since 2021.
- 9:15Speaker 1: And if you're talking winning a division and the last
- 9:21Speaker 1: time was Bernie Kosar, that has to be like in
- 9:23Speaker 1: the 80s, right?
- 9:24Speaker 3: 1989.
- 9:25Speaker 6: When they claimed the AFC Central title. And the Dolphins, Izzy,
- 9:32Speaker 6: you mentioned it.
- 9:32Speaker 3: It was 2008.
- 9:33Speaker 6: Tony Sperano.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:35Speaker 1: When's the last time the Jets won their division? Like,
- 9:38Speaker 1: is that the longest streak in the NFL right there?
- 9:40Speaker 7: 2002.
- 9:40Speaker 6: All right. Also, Chad Pennington. Yeah.
- 9:44Speaker 4: That guy's a master of winning divisions.
- 9:47Speaker 3: That Dolphin team was funny. Yes, they won the division.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Pennington was great that season. It took Brady going down, though,
- 9:53Speaker 1: for them to win that division. And the Patriots were
- 9:56Speaker 1: still 11 and five with Matt Castle.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Yeah, it was barely, barely won that division.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Speaking of unlikable, Taylor, I wanted to ask you this
- 10:04Speaker 4: because I don't know if we're going to have much
- 10:06Speaker 4: time to get to it. And frankly, it's a day old.
- 10:08Speaker 4: But how much fun? Was it beating those particular Red
- 10:12Speaker 4: Sox and your boy like Roman Anthony? Nobody likes him
- 10:15Speaker 4: because he didn't play Wilson Contreras like walking around the
- 10:18Speaker 4: bases when he was down. And hopefully I didn't get
- 10:21Speaker 4: fooled by the.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Internet on this.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Were they wearing T-shirts that said there's nothing like October?
- 10:26Speaker 4: And they got knocked out September 30th.
- 10:29Speaker 3: They were outscored 18-2, I believe.
- 10:30Speaker 4: They were eliminated before October, and they were wearing T-shirts saying,
- 10:34Speaker 4: there's nothing like October.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I hope that was real. There's nothing like an October
- 10:38Speaker 1: when you're off for the entire month.
- 10:40Speaker 6: So the no time like October, Izzy, everybody is wearing
- 10:45Speaker 6: those this postseason. So the Red Sox just got a
- 10:48Speaker 6: little unlucky when their season ended.
- 10:50Speaker 3: I'm assuming.
- 10:51Speaker 6: The Cubs were also wearing them.
- 10:52Speaker 4: OK, but have some awareness.
- 10:54Speaker 2: All right.
- 10:54Speaker 4: If you are potentially going out in two out of
- 10:57Speaker 4: three game series, a three game series and go out
- 11:00Speaker 4: potentially in two games, don't wear those.
- 11:02Speaker 3: If it's still September, if they don't wear those, you're
- 11:04Speaker 3: not making it. Exactly.
- 11:06Speaker 4: Don't wear those until October. Just say, you know what, guys,
- 11:08Speaker 4: we're going to have to go with another slogan because
- 11:11Speaker 4: this one doesn't work for us yet.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Let's go with the October shirts when we make it
- 11:14Speaker 3: to October.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:17Speaker 4: So, yes, I will give that's MLB's fault for doing
- 11:19Speaker 4: that because there were going to be teams that were
- 11:21Speaker 4: out before October.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Right. But it's such a great look for the Red Sox.
- 11:26Speaker 1: We do have some great Red Sox sound for you
- 11:28Speaker 1: that we'll play coming up in the next segment to
- 11:29Speaker 1: answer some of your questions that you had for Taylor.
- 11:32Speaker 3: What do you have, Taylor?
- 11:33Speaker 6: Oh, Izzy, I've been floating high ever since the Yankees
- 11:36Speaker 6: knocked out the Red Sox. Just the fashion that they
- 11:39Speaker 6: were able to eliminate them. Like going into the series,
- 11:41Speaker 6: Mikey called it a lose-lose for the Yankees because he
- 11:45Speaker 6: thought the Yankees were so overwhelmingly better than the Red
- 11:48Speaker 6: Sox that if they beat them, it would just be
- 11:50Speaker 6: like ho-hum, like you're supposed.
- 11:52Speaker 3: To beat them.
- 11:52Speaker 7: Mm-hmm.
- 11:53Speaker 6: No, there's always something a little extra about beating the
- 11:55Speaker 6: Boston Red Sox. And there used to be a time
- 11:58Speaker 6: where it felt like the Red Sox had the Yankees
- 12:01Speaker 6: number in the postseason. And the moment it changed was 2004,
- 12:04Speaker 6: where the Red Sox kind of flipped the script on
- 12:07Speaker 6: the Yankees. The past two seasons, the fact that the
- 12:10Speaker 6: Yankees have been the ones that sent the Red Sox
- 12:12Speaker 6: packing in the wildcard series, it's poetic for me.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Izzy, you'll laugh at this. Taylor's trying to get a
- 12:18Speaker 3: ticket for the game. It's in Tampa.
- 12:20Speaker 1: It's about a three and a half, four hour drive.
- 12:23Speaker 1: How much are the tickets going for? Because I think
- 12:24Speaker 1: Taylor was telling me earlier, correct me if I'm wrong, Taylor.
- 12:27Speaker 1: The tickets are more expensive at the Trop than they
- 12:29Speaker 1: are at Yankee Stadium.
- 12:33Speaker 5: What?
- 12:33Speaker 4: Izzy.
- 12:33Speaker 8: No.
- 12:34Speaker 6: There are so many Yankee fans in Tampa and South
- 12:36Speaker 6: Florida that the tickets are more expensive in Tropicana. It's
- 12:40Speaker 6: like a $ 100 difference right now where I think Game 3,
- 12:43Speaker 6: the get-in price at Yankee Stadium is like $ 100, and
- 12:46Speaker 6: the get-in price at Tropicana is about $ 200. Stu, the
- 12:50Speaker 6: Rays manager, Kevin Cash, he was talking about Game 1
- 12:53Speaker 6: against the Yankees, and he said— It's a great name.
- 12:56Speaker 3: By the way. Kevin Cash. Oh, it's awesome. For these
- 12:57Speaker 3: expensive tickets.
- 12:58Speaker 7: Yes.
- 12:59Speaker 6: So game one against the Yankees will be the first
- 13:02Speaker 6: sellout at Tropicana Field since he became the manager in 2015.
- 13:06Speaker 3: What?
- 13:07Speaker 6: And he said, I'm really excited to see our fans
- 13:10Speaker 6: fill this place up.
- 13:11Speaker 3: For the first time. I hate to break it up.
- 13:13Speaker 6: It's not his fans.
- 13:14Speaker 7: Right.
- 13:16Speaker 3: It's Yankee fans.
- 13:18Speaker 4: That fits into my personal war with Tampa. The Tampa
- 13:21Speaker 4: doesn't know they're warring with me. But that's absolutely amazing.
- 13:25Speaker 4: I used to think that it was just South Florida
- 13:27Speaker 4: that had all the New York fans. But yeah, Tampa,
- 13:29Speaker 4: now that you think about it, has so many of them.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Didn't Tampa win a World Series since 2015? No. They
- 13:35Speaker 3: made it to a World Series?
- 13:36Speaker 6: They've made it to a World Series. I don't remember
- 13:39Speaker 6: the time frame. I believe the Phillies beat them.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Kevin Cash has won multiple divisions there. He's never seen
- 13:45Speaker 1: the drop-packed. I mean, that's odd to me.
- 13:47Speaker 3: It's not a great park. I told Taylor not to go.
- 13:50Speaker 6: So you are right, Stu. They made the World Series
- 13:54Speaker 6: in 2020. They lost to the Dodgers, the COVID World Series, too.
- 13:56Speaker 6: And then they lost in 2008 to the Phillies.
- 13:59Speaker 1: So through all that, he's yet to see a packed
- 14:01Speaker 1: house at the Trump, right?
- 14:03Speaker 6: Well, 2020 was the COVID one, so I'm sure there
- 14:05Speaker 6: weren't any fields.
- 14:05Speaker 3: They weren't allowed to go, right? That's unfortunate. It was
- 14:08Speaker 3: as packed as it could be, literally.
- 14:12Speaker 4: Taylor, when you get there, tell me if you think
- 14:14Speaker 4: everything in that park just looks extra orange.
- 14:18Speaker 6: Have you been to that park?
- 14:19Speaker 4: I mean, it was still a park when I covered, right?
- 14:21Speaker 4: They were playing there in 2000 when I covered the Marlins.
- 14:25Speaker 4: And so, yeah, I remember it very well. And everything
- 14:28Speaker 4: just looks like an odd, it looks like you're wearing
- 14:30Speaker 4: orange sunglasses as you're watching.
- 14:32Speaker 6: So I texted a friend asking, because he lives in Tampa,
- 14:35Speaker 6: and he was asking if I've ever been to the Tropa.
- 14:36Speaker 6: And I said, no. And he goes, it's an absolute dump.
- 14:39Speaker 6: It's like they're playing baseball inside a Chuck E.
- 14:41Speaker 9: Cheese.
- 14:43Speaker 3: Enjoy yourself. 877-99 on Fox.
- 14:46Speaker 1: That is 877-99 on Fox.
- 14:48Speaker 4: Small side note, that World Series, the COVID one, was
- 14:51Speaker 4: played in Texas.
- 14:52Speaker 3: In Arlington. Arlington, Texas, yes.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Gatz and
- 14:57Speaker 2: Company live weekdays at 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m. Pacific
- 15:02Speaker 2: on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
- 15:06Speaker 6: There's no time like October. The NLDS is here streaming
- 15:10Speaker 6: live on Fox 1. Both NLDS series can be seen
- 15:13Speaker 6: on Fox 1. It's the Braves at the Dodgers beginning
- 15:16Speaker 6: Saturday at 4 p.m. Eastern and the Padres at the
- 15:18Speaker 6: Brewers beginning Saturday at 8.30 p.m. Eastern. Every hit could
- 15:22Speaker 6: be the one that changes everything. Stream the MLB postseason
- 15:26Speaker 6: live on Fox 1.
- 15:27Speaker 1: We'll get to Dan Beyer out in Sherman Oaks for
- 15:29Speaker 1: a sports update in just a second here. We have
- 15:31Speaker 1: a few calls. Israel Gutierrez in studio with us today.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Let's go to Greg, who's in Ohio. Greg, go ahead.
- 15:37Speaker 1: You're on Fox Sports Radio.
- 15:39Speaker 9: Hey, Stu.
- 15:40Speaker 7: Nice talking to you.
- 15:42Speaker 9: I'm from Ohio. Born, but I'm a Cowboy fan. And
- 15:48Speaker 9: the problem with McCarthy is he did this down there
- 15:51Speaker 9: the four years that he coached down there. So this
- 15:53Speaker 9: is nothing new. So I'm not an Aaron Rodgers fan,
- 15:57Speaker 9: but This is his clock management and getting plays, and
- 16:02Speaker 9: that happens, like, all the time, every game, every Cowboy game.
- 16:05Speaker 9: I'm a huge Cowboy fan.
- 16:07Speaker 1: No, I understand that, but this is not the first
- 16:09Speaker 1: time Aaron Rodgers has played for Mike McCarthy.
- 16:11Speaker 3: He kind of knows the deal, and he agreed to
- 16:13Speaker 3: sign up and play for McCarthy, right?
- 16:15Speaker 9: I know. I have more problems with the Pittsburgh management
- 16:18Speaker 9: thinking this is going to work than what happened there,
- 16:23Speaker 9: but I appreciate him giving us Joey Porter and George Pickens.
- 16:27Speaker 9: That's pretty nice of them.
- 16:30Speaker 3: Thank you for the call, Greg. Have a good weekend.
- 16:32Speaker 3: He's always there for us, is he? It's Al in Albuquerque.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Go ahead, Al. You're on Fox Sports Radio.
- 16:39Speaker 5: Hey, guys.
- 16:40Speaker 6: It's 22nd time.
- 16:40Speaker 7: Long time.
- 16:41Speaker 8: I've got a solution for you on the Deshaun Watson
- 16:44Speaker 8: problem you're having. And it was actually brought up by
- 16:48Speaker 8: Mount Rushmore guest, Bomani Jones. Instead of saying the name
- 16:52Speaker 8: Deshaun Watson, just call him Nasty D. Like put it
- 16:55Speaker 8: on the update, the graphic, like put it in quotes.
- 16:59Speaker 8: That way it's like always there. It's always in front
- 17:01Speaker 8: of everybody. So if you ever feel comfortable rooting for
- 17:04Speaker 8: this loser, then there you go.
- 17:06Speaker 3: All right. Nasty D.
- 17:07Speaker 6: Yes.
- 17:08Speaker 4: I think making even funnier sort of the hatred of
- 17:10Speaker 4: either McCarthy or Aaron Rodgers. is how lovable Mike Tomlin is.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Did you see all his Minecraft stuff lately? Oh, my goodness.
- 17:18Speaker 3: I love that, man.
- 17:19Speaker 6: Izzy, his numbers tanked the second he discovered Minecraft.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I've seen that. And that's fine.
- 17:24Speaker 1: I do find myself loving Tomlin in a way I've
- 17:27Speaker 1: never loved him before. But regardless of who's the coach
- 17:29Speaker 1: of that team, they're 2-2 after 4.
- 17:33Speaker 6: Izzy, Bomani's point that Al was referencing is, Calling Deshaun
- 17:38Speaker 6: Watson D-Nasty, just flipping those two words, the placement of
- 17:42Speaker 6: D-Nasty and Nasty D, makes a huge difference.
- 17:47Speaker 3: You want to try it out? There's levels to that.
- 17:49Speaker 3: Nasty D. Thank you, Dan. I dare Ben Johnson to
- 17:54Speaker 3: bench Case Keenum. You can't do it.
- 17:57Speaker 4: See, this is why you don't make bets in the
- 18:00Speaker 4: NFL until as close to game time as possible. I
- 18:02Speaker 4: like the commanders in London and just hearing this Terry
- 18:05Speaker 4: McLaurin news.
- 18:06Speaker 7: Oh, no.
- 18:07Speaker 5: Yes.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Wait it out.
- 18:09Speaker 1: You were talking about the Red Sox fan reaction and
- 18:13Speaker 1: if Taylor's been pounding Red Sox fans.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Are you interested in some sound here, Izzy.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Of Red Sox radio hosts responding to Boston losing?
- 18:22Speaker 3: Getting swept by the New York Yankees. Is it W-E-E-I?
- 18:25Speaker 3: I think that's one of the sounds we have. Taylor
- 18:26Speaker 3: will set it.
- 18:27Speaker 7: Up for us.
- 18:27Speaker 3: Taylor, what do you have?
- 18:28Speaker 6: Yeah, so Izzy, yesterday, instead of listening to my normal W-F-A-N,
- 18:32Speaker 6: where I listen to the entire lineup once we're finished
- 18:36Speaker 6: for the show.
- 18:37Speaker 7: Mm-hmm.
- 18:38Speaker 6: All I was listening to was Boston sports content. I
- 18:40Speaker 6: couldn't get enough of it. Probably listened to 12 hours.
- 18:44Speaker 3: Of WEI yesterday. That's too much.
- 18:47Speaker 6: No, Izzy, not enough.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Not enough. Not enough. After a Boston loss, get out
- 18:51Speaker 3: of here.
- 18:51Speaker 6: So, Izzy, the highlight, this is the Rich and Ken
- 18:54Speaker 6: show with Ted Johnson. This is a caller calling in
- 18:59Speaker 6: and just absolutely losing his mind on the team.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Let's go to John on line one. John, what's going on, buddy?
- 19:06Speaker 5: You want to know why Eric Miller was put in
- 19:07Speaker 5: those games in both spots in the same game? I'll
- 19:10Speaker 5: tell you why, Ted. Very simple.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Spite.
- 19:13Speaker 7: It's not scripted.
- 19:15Speaker 9: It's spite.
- 19:16Speaker 5: They traded Mayer for Miller, and they wanted to prove
- 19:19Speaker 5: to everybody that.
- 19:21Speaker 3: We are right.
- 19:23Speaker 2: And they weren't.
- 19:23Speaker 5: Both times, it bit them right in the ass. And
- 19:26Speaker 5: as far as I'm concerned, you can trade his pal
- 19:29Speaker 5: Anthony out there for the best right-handed bat you can get,
- 19:32Speaker 5: and they can slay all the California girls, because I
- 19:35Speaker 5: am done with Roman Anthony. Sell now, sell low, sell
- 19:39Speaker 5: whatever you can, because to me, he is unfortunately a
- 19:42Speaker 5: today's athlete, which means he doesn't care. And quite frankly,
- 19:46Speaker 5: he has no reason to care, because he's got $ 150
- 19:48Speaker 5: million in the bank that makes him not have to
- 19:52Speaker 5: care as much. What does he have to strive for?
- 19:55Speaker 5: He doesn't have the pride, at least I don't see it,
- 19:57Speaker 5: because he's a 20-year-old, 22-year-old kid that's gotten everything. And
- 20:01Speaker 5: for Wilson Contreras, let me tell you one thing, my friend.
- 20:05Speaker 7: If I'm Kim Schlintler next year.
- 20:07Speaker 5: And you're coming up to the plate, I'm going to
- 20:09Speaker 5: put 102 somewhere between your ribcage and your neck. He
- 20:14Speaker 5: looked like Reggie effing Jackson running around in a 77
- 20:18Speaker 5: World Series after the third home run. It was their
- 20:21Speaker 5: first run in three postseason games. Run around the bases,
- 20:26Speaker 5: you asshat, and get your glove. Because the way you
- 20:29Speaker 5: played that third strike, you looked like a Little League player.
- 20:33Speaker 5: You sucked the whole series.
- 20:35Speaker 3: That's it. What a call.
- 20:40Speaker 4: I didn't know you could say some of those words
- 20:42Speaker 4: on the radio.
- 20:43Speaker 3: Well, it's Boston. Well, we just played it.
- 20:46Speaker 6: That has to be cathartic for that Red Sox caller
- 20:51Speaker 6: to just let everything off his chest.
- 20:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I have a couple of issues with it, though. A,
- 20:55Speaker 4: the today's athlete thing. Since the beginning of time, since
- 20:59Speaker 4: players were making money, there have been guys who have
- 21:01Speaker 4: checked out once they've made some money. It's like, oh,
- 21:03Speaker 4: I've reached my destination. I don't care anymore. I'm not
- 21:05Speaker 4: saying that that's true about Roman Anthony. I'm just saying
- 21:07Speaker 4: that's not a today's athlete thing.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Here's my problem with his comments about Roman Anthony. I
- 21:12Speaker 1: know Roman Anthony.
- 21:13Speaker 3: Oh, really? I mean, he grew up down here.
- 21:15Speaker 1: And my daughter is very good friends with him and
- 21:17Speaker 1: has been good friends with him for a long time.
- 21:19Speaker 1: I promise you this, Boston.
- 21:21Speaker 3: He cares. He's trying. He was upset that he couldn't
- 21:24Speaker 3: play because he was injured.
- 21:25Speaker 4: Here's my other issue. Wilson Contreras. what does running around
- 21:31Speaker 4: the bases quickly do for your team?
- 21:34Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 21:35Speaker 4: In fact, if it was their first run in what
- 21:37Speaker 4: three post-season games, you got to milk it.
- 21:40Speaker 3: You got to stay up there.
- 21:41Speaker 4: Hey, look at me. I got us the one run
- 21:44Speaker 4: that we haven't had in three post-season games.
- 21:46Speaker 6: I think it's less doing it quickly and more not
- 21:50Speaker 6: doing it as slow as he did it.
- 21:53Speaker 4: That's a baseball thing to me. It's just like, listen,
- 21:55Speaker 4: if I don't have to run, I'm not going to run.
- 21:57Speaker 4: Same thing with Caleb Williams. If I can take a
- 21:59Speaker 4: cart to the locker room, I'm going to take a cart.
- 22:01Speaker 6: When Contreras was rounding the bases, even Max Fried was
- 22:04Speaker 6: looking at him like, what are you doing? Get back
- 22:06Speaker 6: in the dugout. We're smoking you this series.
- 22:10Speaker 1: We've been giving Taylor here a lot of credit because
- 22:14Speaker 1: the Cam Schlittler take that he gave before the season started,
- 22:18Speaker 1: where he would not trade him for Paul Skeens, it
- 22:20Speaker 1: turns out that Taylor was right. The only person who
- 22:23Speaker 1: agreed was CeCe Sabathia, and I think Jeff Passan But
- 22:26Speaker 1: Passon did it once he was named the All-Star Game starter.
- 22:29Speaker 3: So he was a little bit too late.
- 22:31Speaker 1: But we have been showering him with praise because he
- 22:33Speaker 1: did get something.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Right on the Yankees.
- 22:35Speaker 4: I'm only saying this because he happened to be on
- 22:37Speaker 4: the screen a second ago. Didn't Josh Hart say Schlittler
- 22:40Speaker 4: is like a god? Josh Hart's like a crazy Yankees fan,
- 22:42Speaker 4: isn't he, Taylor?
- 22:44Speaker 6: Yeah, there's some conflicting reports when it comes to Josh
- 22:47Speaker 6: Hart's Yankee fandom. Because there's a lot of things he
- 22:51Speaker 6: doesn't seem like he knows. He seems like a Johnny-come-lately
- 22:54Speaker 6: when it comes to it.
- 22:55Speaker 1: So we've been giving Taylor a lot of credit. He
- 22:58Speaker 1: got it right on Cam Schlittler. I laughed him off
- 23:01Speaker 1: the radio.
- 23:01Speaker 4: Hang on a second, though. One of the things I've
- 23:04Speaker 4: been doing during my long weekends here, which are lovely,
- 23:07Speaker 4: sitting by the pool and listening to you guys. And
- 23:10Speaker 4: do I remember a take Taylor had about these Yankees
- 23:13Speaker 4: that might have been the exact opposite?
- 23:17Speaker 3: Taylor, baseball is still going on.
- 23:20Speaker 1: You would never know it, but it's still going on
- 23:21Speaker 1: because football has taken over. College football has taken over.
- 23:25Speaker 1: What is going on with Aaron Judge? What's happening with
- 23:27Speaker 1: your New York Yankees? I haven't checked in lately.
- 23:30Speaker 6: You're saying baseball is still going on. For me, this
- 23:33Speaker 6: might be the final nail in the coffin.
- 23:34Speaker 3: Really?
- 23:35Speaker 6: Aaron Judge is likely out for the AL Wild Card
- 23:38Speaker 6: Series versus Boston, according to Brian Hawk. And, Stu, if
- 23:41Speaker 6: you're wondering what that music is, it's the music, the violins,
- 23:45Speaker 6: because the Titanic is going down.
- 23:47Speaker 3: The band is going to.
- 23:48Speaker 6: Play us on our way out.
- 23:50Speaker 1: You're saying you're incapable of winning a playoff series without
- 23:52Speaker 1: Aaron Judge?
- 23:53Speaker 3: That's ridiculous. It's baseball.
- 23:55Speaker 6: It is over.
- 23:56Speaker 3: You hear that, Mikey? It's the fat lady.
- 23:58Speaker 6: She's singing.
- 23:59Speaker 3: I'm glad you were listening, because I wasn't.
- 24:04Speaker 4: I would rather be Josh Hart.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Johnny come lately.
- 24:07Speaker 4: Then the guy who gives up on my team immediately
- 24:10Speaker 4: and then comes back afterwards and says, I love these guys.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Listen, listen, what you said, close your eyes.
- 24:16Speaker 1: And when you did, you couldn't see Carl Anthony towns
- 24:18Speaker 1: lifting the Larry O'Brien trophy.
- 24:20Speaker 3: And you just said.
- 24:22Speaker 1: On national radio, the Yankees couldn't advance without Aaron judge.
- 24:26Speaker 6: What you guys don't understand is when you watch 162
- 24:28Speaker 6: games a of a team in the MLB season, you're
- 24:33Speaker 6: not mentally stable. You can't hold me accountable for everything
- 24:36Speaker 6: I say during a season. Because yes, if I'm watching
- 24:40Speaker 6: 162 games, eventually I'm going to see my team lose
- 24:43Speaker 6: three games. And as a Yankee fan, yes, the sky
- 24:46Speaker 6: feels like it's falling there. did i think the yankees
- 24:49Speaker 6: could win without aaron judge no you know why because
- 24:51Speaker 6: when aaron judge was out they had the worst offense
- 24:54Speaker 6: in almost all of baseball and then all of a
- 24:56Speaker 6: sudden aaron judge misses two games in the wild card
- 24:59Speaker 6: series and they're the it's their best two game offensive
- 25:02Speaker 6: stretch in baseball like nothing about that made sense.
- 25:05Speaker 4: I mean you got the rice man like is that
- 25:06Speaker 4: what they call him the rice man yeah that was
- 25:10Speaker 4: a bit of a shocker When I heard him speak
- 25:13Speaker 4: in Spanish or Spanglish, if you will, in that one interview, it.
- 25:16Speaker 3: Was pretty good. It's flawless in Spanish, too. Crazy.
- 25:19Speaker 1: How do you feel Bordot Ricardo provided that sound for us?
- 25:23Speaker 3: And I'm thankful that he did.
- 25:24Speaker 1: We had no idea that Ricardo, once the Marlins are eliminated,
- 25:28Speaker 1: he becomes a Yankee fit. And so we have a
- 25:31Speaker 1: new name for him, and it's Ricky Mantle.
- 25:37Speaker 3: That's a great nickname. It really is. I would love
- 25:41Speaker 3: that nickname, even if it makes me a Johnny-come-lately.
- 25:43Speaker 4: I don't care.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Let's stay in Boston, where life is miserable right now.
- 25:47Speaker 3: It usually is. Drake May.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Izzy, to me, it looks like Drake May has forgotten
- 25:53Speaker 1: how to play the position of quarterback and the game
- 25:55Speaker 1: of football.
- 25:56Speaker 3: Like, that's how bad it was last week. It's odd, right?
- 25:58Speaker 3: Guys in the Super Bowl nine months ago.
- 26:00Speaker 4: Speaking of old takes, mine is a little older than Taylor's,
- 26:04Speaker 4: which was just last week.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Or this week. Last week. Last week.
- 26:07Speaker 4: But, yeah, I don't know if you guys remember... But
- 26:10Speaker 4: I said that Drake May would follow in the footsteps
- 26:14Speaker 4: of Dan Marino, not in a Hall of Fame career necessarily,
- 26:18Speaker 4: but he would make a.
- 26:21Speaker 4: Super bowl early in his career and then never make
- 26:25Speaker 4: another one right and so far that looks like a
- 26:27Speaker 4: great take for me because even if the patriots make
- 26:30Speaker 4: a super bowl it might not be with this guy
- 26:32Speaker 4: at the quarterback spot if he keeps playing like this.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Uh taylor drake may would sign up for dan marino's
- 26:37Speaker 1: career right now yes right anyone would of course.
- 26:40Speaker 6: Uh yeah i mean since the start of the 2025
- 26:43Speaker 6: playoffs drake may has statistically probably been the worst quarterback
- 26:47Speaker 6: in all football where He's played seven games. He has
- 26:49Speaker 6: eight interceptions and eight fumbles over that stretch. Stu, the
- 26:52Speaker 6: report today is that Drake May has been in the
- 26:54Speaker 6: training room getting treatment on his right shoulder. There's something
- 26:58Speaker 6: off with Drake May where, yes, it feels like he
- 27:01Speaker 6: has the yips, but it does also feel like maybe
- 27:04Speaker 6: he's not fully healthy and his shoulder never recovered from
- 27:06Speaker 6: last year because it seems like there was a turning
- 27:09Speaker 6: point in last season. And I know people are going
- 27:11Speaker 6: to do the thing. He just faced better competition in
- 27:13Speaker 6: the playoffs. And while I think that's true to some extent,
- 27:16Speaker 6: It doesn't it does not make sense that you were
- 27:19Speaker 6: the runner up in the MVP conversation. Your team made
- 27:22Speaker 6: it all the way to the Super Bowl. And now
- 27:24Speaker 6: it looks like you can't even play the quarterback position.
- 27:26Speaker 4: I mean, it does make sense. Chris Sims, you know,
- 27:29Speaker 4: people saying that his throwing motion looks different. I mean,
- 27:32Speaker 4: if that's the case, then, yeah, it would be an
- 27:35Speaker 4: injury thing. And obviously I'm being a little harsh on
- 27:37Speaker 4: the guy. I don't think he fell off. you know,
- 27:38Speaker 4: the face of the earth with his ability to play football.
- 27:41Speaker 4: So if it is an injury situation that he's trying
- 27:43Speaker 4: to play through, OK, like, let's be honest with ourselves.
- 27:46Speaker 4: How about you don't play through it and trust your
- 27:48Speaker 4: backup for a little bit and.
- 27:49Speaker 3: Try to get better?
- 27:50Speaker 4: But it also just feels like you're still making those
- 27:54Speaker 4: decisions as if he can make that throw. So either
- 27:57Speaker 4: he's trying to fool himself into believing he can make
- 27:59Speaker 4: those throws. or the injury really isn't the reason why
- 28:02Speaker 4: he's struggling.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Do you think there's a real rift there with Rabel
- 28:05Speaker 1: and Drake May? Because Rabel could chalk it up to, hey,
- 28:08Speaker 1: not my guy. I didn't select him. He was here
- 28:10Speaker 1: when I got here.
- 28:11Speaker 4: Didn't he say something to the effect that I wanted
- 28:13Speaker 4: to coach here because of Drake May, though?
- 28:15Speaker 3: I thought he did, yeah.
- 28:15Speaker 4: So, I mean, I think he's, you know, fully behind him.
- 28:18Speaker 4: I think he's supporting him regardless. And, again, I mean, like,
- 28:21Speaker 4: he had a great season last year. Runner-up MVP, made
- 28:24Speaker 4: the Super Bowl.
- 28:25Speaker 3: You don't, like.
- 28:26Speaker 4: there aren't very many guys where you look at the
- 28:28Speaker 4: example of them having this great of a fall-off, right?
- 28:31Speaker 4: And so, you know, obviously, A.J. Brown's hurt. He's not,
- 28:34Speaker 4: you know, available to him. And I don't even think
- 28:36Speaker 4: if he is available to him, he's still an elite
- 28:38Speaker 4: wide receiver in the league. So it's almost like you
- 28:41Speaker 4: have to give him, assuming these types of struggles keep
- 28:44Speaker 4: going the rest of the season, you have to be
- 28:46Speaker 4: able to give him the full season to say, hey,
- 28:49Speaker 4: I can figure it out after this season because regardless
- 28:52Speaker 4: of what my schedule was last year, I still played
- 28:54Speaker 4: pretty damn well.
- 28:55Speaker 3: Yes.
- 28:56Speaker 1: By the way, Izzy has a big prediction for the
- 28:59Speaker 1: NBA season.
- 29:00Speaker 3: I don't want it now. Okay. I am teasing that
- 29:02Speaker 3: for a future segment.
- 29:03Speaker 4: I just want it out so badly.
- 29:06Speaker 1: I just want everyone to know that Izzy has a bold,
- 29:12Speaker 1: big NBA prediction for the upcoming season. Let's take a
- 29:16Speaker 1: call real quick. 877-99 on Fox. That is 877-99 on Fox.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Let's go to Jim, who's in Montana today.
- 29:24Speaker 3: Jim, go ahead. You are on Fox Sports Radio.
- 29:27Speaker 7: Hi, guys. I understand Drake Mays played poorly. We get it.
- 29:34Speaker 7: But have you seen Kyler Murray play? Come on. The
- 29:37Speaker 7: guy's got a quarterback rating of 17. and he sucks right.
- 29:42Speaker 3: Okay i know but yeah but they're three you know yes.
- 29:45Speaker 7: Yeah yeah but it's not him it's the defense the
- 29:49Speaker 7: guy cannot play he can't play all right thank you okay.
- 29:53Speaker 4: That's that's pretty much my point when it comes to
- 29:55Speaker 4: drake like i'm not i I'm not saying they're going
- 29:57Speaker 4: to give up on him. He's going to fall off
- 29:58Speaker 4: the face of the earth and no longer be a
- 30:00Speaker 4: capable quarterback. You have to find the reasons why he's
- 30:03Speaker 4: not playing the way he's playing. I think with a
- 30:05Speaker 4: guy like Kyler Murray, it was always, hey, if his
- 30:08Speaker 4: athletic ability can get him past his, you know, lack
- 30:12Speaker 4: of height. And if his decision making is amongst the
- 30:17Speaker 4: better quarterbacks of the NFL, then you've got yourself a
- 30:20Speaker 4: great quarterback. It was going to be a gamble. Not
- 30:22Speaker 4: every mobile quarterback is going to be a great quarterback
- 30:25Speaker 4: just because they're athletic. And then you throw in him
- 30:27Speaker 4: losing some of that just from injuries or whatever. And, yeah,
- 30:30Speaker 4: he doesn't look very good.
- 30:32Speaker 3: Do you want to revise that take, Drake May never
- 30:34Speaker 3: making it back to the Super Bowl?
- 30:35Speaker 9: No.
- 30:36Speaker 3: Because he could as a backup on a really good team. Nah,
- 30:38Speaker 3: that doesn't count. What do you mean it doesn't count?
- 30:42Speaker 3: It does count.
- 30:43Speaker 6: I'm with Izzy. That does not count.
- 30:45Speaker 3: All right, put it on the poll.
- 30:46Speaker 1: If you make the Super Bowl as a backup quarterback
- 30:50Speaker 1: or blackout quarterback.
- 30:51Speaker 3: As Taylor likes to say, have you made a Super Bowl?
- 30:54Speaker 4: Now, if you pull a Nick Foles and take over
- 30:57Speaker 4: and start and end up winning it, Then all the
- 30:59Speaker 4: credit goes to that guy. But if he's just riding
- 31:01Speaker 4: the bench holding a clipboard the whole time.
- 31:03Speaker 3: So Haas-Dettler won a Super Bowl.
- 31:05Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 31:05Speaker 3: Okay.
- 31:06Speaker 6: Black backup quarterback.
- 31:08Speaker 4: Black backup quarterback.
- 31:09Speaker 6: Like Sam Darnold made the Super Bowl with the 49ers.
- 31:12Speaker 6: Nobody gives Sam Darnold credit for making the Super Bowl
- 31:15Speaker 6: the 49ers.
- 31:15Speaker 5: No.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Yeah, but now you do, right? After he made it
- 31:19Speaker 3: with Seattle, he was a starter. He's one of the
- 31:21Speaker 3: main reasons. Now you can look back.
- 31:23Speaker 1: After he's done with his career, you can look back
- 31:25Speaker 1: and say, Darnold made it to two Super.
- 31:26Speaker 3: Bowls, right? No. If he doesn't make another?
- 31:28Speaker 4: What do you do? You make practice that much better
- 31:30Speaker 4: as the backup quarterback? What, you're pushing the starter? Like,
- 31:33Speaker 4: you're really going to have to reach to get the
- 31:35Speaker 4: backup quarterback.
- 31:36Speaker 6: If you didn't play in the game, you didn't really make.
- 31:38Speaker 3: The Super Bowl. Put that on the poll.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Gotts and Company.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Live weekdays at 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m. Pacific.
- 31:50Speaker 3: Chris Sims going to join us in hour number two.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Izzy is very excited here because the Gators have a
- 31:56Speaker 1: good football team. The Gators play Missouri this weekend after
- 32:00Speaker 1: their win at home against Mississippi. Man, did I fall
- 32:03Speaker 1: for that? Everyone tried to tell us, Taylor, don't take Mississippi.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Don't take Mississippi. You and I, I believe we took Mississippi, right?
- 32:09Speaker 3: I did. Did you?
- 32:10Speaker 5: No.
- 32:10Speaker 6: Once I saw Q1, Lacey was out for Ole Miss.
- 32:12Speaker 6: I said, yeah, I'm staying away. It was a game
- 32:14Speaker 6: where you either have to bet Florida or you just
- 32:17Speaker 6: have to not bet at all. Betting Ole Miss, crazy.
- 32:20Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 32:20Speaker 3: Well, I did. And I'm crazy. But Izzy's excited here
- 32:25Speaker 3: because he has a coach.
- 32:27Speaker 6: Yeah, man.
- 32:28Speaker 4: It's John Summerall. Seems to like do and say all
- 32:31Speaker 4: the right things. Like one of the things that I
- 32:33Speaker 4: just couldn't stand about every coach after urban Meyer, even
- 32:36Speaker 4: urban Meyer used to take me off with this and
- 32:37Speaker 4: his offensive coordinators with some of the play calling. It
- 32:39Speaker 4: just seemed like it was just, they're, they're trying to
- 32:41Speaker 4: trick themselves. They're just trying to do too much. And,
- 32:45Speaker 4: you know, he seems to recognize that when you've got
- 32:47Speaker 4: a guy named Jaden ball, who, you know, is Heisman candidate.
- 32:50Speaker 4: And clearly, I mean, to me, it looks like the
- 32:53Speaker 4: best running back in the country, but I haven't seen
- 32:54Speaker 4: them all. Um, and you just, you ride that horse
- 32:57Speaker 4: as long, as much as you can, and then just
- 33:00Speaker 4: make life that much easier for your quarterback. Um, What
- 33:03Speaker 4: did he say last week when they went into that
- 33:05Speaker 4: game and why they were the favorite? And he just
- 33:07Speaker 4: gave the perfect answer. He's like, yeah, there's a lot
- 33:09Speaker 4: of good drugs out there.
- 33:10Speaker 3: Yes.
- 33:10Speaker 4: Which I love that answer. He plays the humble. Even
- 33:13Speaker 4: though he came in sort of came in hot a
- 33:15Speaker 4: little bit, but still somehow can remain confident while being
- 33:20Speaker 4: humble at the same time.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Still hot.
- 33:24Speaker 4: I do want to add this. I'm not going to
- 33:26Speaker 4: I'm just going to throw this out there. I'm not
- 33:27Speaker 4: going to bring the mood down. But I have a
- 33:30Speaker 4: friend from college, his name is Daryl Pressgraves, who's not
- 33:33Speaker 4: doing very well right now. He's in hospice care.
- 33:36Speaker 3: Love you, Daryl.
- 33:37Speaker 4: But, you know, a lot of our former friends, former
- 33:42Speaker 4: Alligator writers have been sort of in a group chat now.
- 33:46Speaker 4: He's just not doing very well at all. And I
- 33:49Speaker 4: don't know who reached out to John Sumrall, but John
- 33:53Speaker 4: Sumrall put together a video, a quick video, you know,
- 33:57Speaker 4: for Darryl, which I thought was, you know, lovely.
- 33:59Speaker 3: It was great.
- 34:00Speaker 4: And so it just made me respect the guy even more.
- 34:02Speaker 4: And because of Darryl, who's a huge Gator fan, I'm
- 34:05Speaker 4: going to be, you know, riding this Gator train as
- 34:08Speaker 4: long as it'll go. I'll be cheering hard for them,
- 34:10Speaker 4: the hardest as I have since before Urban Meyer because
- 34:14Speaker 4: I wasn't a big Urban Meyer fan. And so, yeah,
- 34:16Speaker 4: I just absolutely love this team. And a couple of notes,
- 34:20Speaker 4: that Ole Miss game when you're talking about not betting–
- 34:24Speaker 4: Ole Miss, that 24 point win was the largest margin
- 34:29Speaker 4: over any top 10 team this season. And so it
- 34:32Speaker 4: is the best win you could argue anybody has on
- 34:34Speaker 4: their schedule this season. And that 13 spot leap in
- 34:39Speaker 4: the standings that they moved up in the AP poll,
- 34:41Speaker 4: the third biggest leap in college football history. So it's
- 34:45Speaker 4: obvious that people are figuring out really quickly because I
- 34:48Speaker 4: wasn't sure how good those first two wins looked. You know,
- 34:50Speaker 4: they looked pretty good. They were scoring a lot, but
- 34:52Speaker 4: it was against you know, a couple of bad teams.
- 34:54Speaker 3: But you're sure now.
- 34:55Speaker 4: I'm 100% sure. And this Aaron Filo quarterback seems like
- 34:59Speaker 4: he can handle it.
- 35:00Speaker 6: Yeah, Izzy, it's going to be interesting to see how
- 35:02Speaker 6: Florida handles the success this week because now it feels
- 35:06Speaker 6: like they're in the trap game spot against Missouri. Best
- 35:09Speaker 6: running back in the country, I think it's Jaden Baugh.
- 35:11Speaker 6: Kiwan Lacy is in that conversation when he's healthy at
- 35:14Speaker 6: Ole Miss. My biggest question for this Florida team revolves
- 35:17Speaker 6: around the quarterback that you just mentioned, Aaron Filo. I'm
- 35:21Speaker 6: curious to see what this Florida team looks like. If
- 35:24Speaker 6: you need Aaron Philo to play catch up instead of Jaden,
- 35:27Speaker 6: Bob being the one who establishes the way that Florida
- 35:31Speaker 6: wants to play, which I think when, when they're doing that,
- 35:33Speaker 6: they're as good as any team in the country. The
- 35:36Speaker 6: one point that I would have on Philo though, their
- 35:39Speaker 6: wide receiver combo of Vernell Brown, the third and Dallas Wilson,
- 35:43Speaker 6: those two could go toe to toe with any duo
- 35:45Speaker 6: wide receiver duo in the country and the sec.
- 35:48Speaker 1: Izzy, I understand what you're saying. He plays to his strengths,
- 35:51Speaker 1: regardless of what those strengths are. But Taylor is right.
- 35:54Speaker 1: They're going to need Philo to bail him out of
- 35:55Speaker 1: some game here.
- 35:56Speaker 4: But the other thing that I like about them, this
- 35:58Speaker 4: is what I was talking about when I'm saying not
- 36:00Speaker 4: overthinking this. Yeah, they also seem to run good plays.
- 36:03Speaker 4: They also Philo seems to be able to run an
- 36:05Speaker 4: offense that is calling smart plays. It's not like he
- 36:08Speaker 4: is putting it in between two defenders, you know, when
- 36:11Speaker 4: when they're having big plays. He seems to be hitting
- 36:13Speaker 4: open guys, and if guys are open, it's usually because,
- 36:15Speaker 4: you know, it could be a slip-up in the defense,
- 36:16Speaker 4: but it's usually because of pretty good offensive play calling.
- 36:20Speaker 4: I will say this about him. I was scrolling through
- 36:23Speaker 4: his Instagram, and he doesn't have too many posts over
- 36:26Speaker 4: his history, at least on this.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Is this Philo's or Summerall's? Philo's, excuse me. Philo's Instagram.
- 36:30Speaker 4: I have not checked if Summerall has an Instagram. And
- 36:33Speaker 4: so when he transferred to Florida, he gave the classic,
- 36:37Speaker 4: I'm home.
- 36:38Speaker 3: And it's speaking to the Gators fans. Yes.
- 36:40Speaker 4: You scroll down a little bit and you look for
- 36:42Speaker 4: his commitment to his original school, which is Georgia Tech.
- 36:45Speaker 3: And he said Georgia Tech. I'm home. And I was like,
- 36:48Speaker 3: all right, how many homes do you get buddy?
- 36:53Speaker 6: I think the biggest thing that Florida did when, when
- 36:56Speaker 6: they got Aaron Philo, they got his offensive coordinator from
- 36:59Speaker 6: Georgia tech, Buster Faulkner. And if you listen to college
- 37:02Speaker 6: football with T with a bear and Stu gots and
- 37:05Speaker 6: T Bob appearances, there is not a podcast in America
- 37:09Speaker 6: that talks more about Buster Faulkner than then then the
- 37:13Speaker 6: combination of bear and t-bop.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Yeah buster faulkner i mean they mentioned his name non-stop
- 37:19Speaker 1: and every time they ask me to remember his name
- 37:21Speaker 1: i can't remember yeah.
- 37:22Speaker 4: I mean and uh who was their quarterback another great
- 37:25Speaker 4: name last year who haynes king haynes king yeah i
- 37:28Speaker 4: mean maybe he looked great because of the offensive play
- 37:31Speaker 4: calling right because it's not like he was a you
- 37:33Speaker 4: know a high round pick it's not like you're seeing
- 37:35Speaker 4: him you know banging down the doors of any starting
- 37:38Speaker 4: spot in the NFL.
- 37:39Speaker 1: With all the great things we just said about their team,
- 37:41Speaker 1: about their coach, you're not going to be surprised if
- 37:43Speaker 1: they lose this weekend, right?
- 37:44Speaker 3: Because that's college football.
- 37:45Speaker 4: I mean, it's on the road, but, you know, the
- 37:47Speaker 4: Auburn win was, I think it was their first road
- 37:49Speaker 4: win since 24. It was their first win at Auburn,
- 37:52Speaker 4: I want to say. Man, it's either since 2009 or 1999.
- 37:56Speaker 4: It's been a long time since they won it all.
- 37:58Speaker 3: So you're saying this season might be different.
- 38:00Speaker 4: Yeah, and I don't really, I haven't seen much of Missouri,
- 38:03Speaker 4: but I'm not convinced that they're that good.
- 38:05Speaker 6: I think if you gave Georgia Tech the option right now,
- 38:08Speaker 6: fire Brent Key and keep Buster Faulkner this offseason, they
- 38:11Speaker 6: would do that if you give them that do-over.
- 38:15Speaker 3: You don't say.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Chris Simms going to join us in about 15, 20 minutes.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Looking forward to that. The return of Chris Simms. Izzy
- 38:24Speaker 1: has a big prediction for the NBA season. We'll get
- 38:26Speaker 1: to that in just a second. You heard Dan Beyer
- 38:29Speaker 1: during the update say that Tony Romo is out. Are
- 38:31Speaker 1: you surprised by that, Iz?
- 38:32Speaker 3: I was pretty shocked by it.
- 38:35Speaker 4: Obviously, there's probably more details to come. It could be
- 38:38Speaker 4: where Tony Romo, or it could be absolutely mutual where
- 38:41Speaker 4: Tony Romo is like, hey, I need to deal with
- 38:43Speaker 4: some stuff. Let me out, even though that's a lot
- 38:44Speaker 4: of money for such a situation. But I was shocked
- 38:48Speaker 4: because it seems to be a pretty high standard to
- 38:51Speaker 4: hold for an announcer. when players, coaches, what have you,
- 38:56Speaker 4: Tiger Woods, we, a DUI, we let that stuff go eventually.
- 39:02Speaker 4: We all say, hey, we all get on our soapbox
- 39:04Speaker 4: and say, hey, don't drink and drive. That's not good.
- 39:06Speaker 4: Don't ever do that again. And then we just welcome
- 39:08Speaker 4: them back. And so that's why this one is weird.
- 39:11Speaker 4: And you combine that with, I don't know if you
- 39:13Speaker 4: saw this, but the Portland Trailblazers recently hired a new
- 39:19Speaker 4: play-by-play guy for TV. His name was Braden Bell. And
- 39:22Speaker 4: hours later, They fired him. They terminated his contract because
- 39:26Speaker 4: they went back or somebody, a reporter, found old racist
- 39:31Speaker 4: and misogynistic tweets from him, social media posts, from when
- 39:35Speaker 4: he was like maybe 15, 16 years old. And it
- 39:38Speaker 4: was just immediate, hey, sorry, we didn't vet well enough
- 39:40Speaker 4: when we hired you. Now you're out.
- 39:42Speaker 3: Do that on the front end, maybe, perhaps. Right.
- 39:44Speaker 4: But the point being is like we also have these
- 39:47Speaker 4: athletes and coaches and announcers or whatever who have done
- 39:50Speaker 4: that in the past, and we have let that go.
- 39:54Speaker 4: And so it seems like a really high standard to
- 39:56Speaker 4: have for these announcers who are just giving us the play-by-play.
- 40:00Speaker 3: Deshaun Watson played football last night. Exactly. Exactly.
- 40:04Speaker 1: I would say the players still have, while they're playing,
- 40:06Speaker 1: still have value. It doesn't matter who's as good as
- 40:09Speaker 1: Tony Romo was at doing that, and people enjoyed him,
- 40:13Speaker 1: and they liked him and Nance together. It really doesn't matter.
- 40:16Speaker 1: I'm never tuning in for the person calling the game.
- 40:19Speaker 1: I'm tuning in for the people playing the game.
- 40:21Speaker 2: Right.
- 40:21Speaker 4: But if you're going to announce your morals and just
- 40:24Speaker 4: say these are our values as an organization, then do
- 40:27Speaker 4: it up and down the organization, not just for the
- 40:30Speaker 4: announcers calling it. Again, I'm not saying if it was me,
- 40:32Speaker 4: I would fire the guy immediately, too. I'd be like, hey,
- 40:35Speaker 4: our bad. We didn't look into these things, and we
- 40:38Speaker 4: made a mistake here. But it just seems like they're
- 40:40Speaker 4: just trying to get applause for this.
- 40:43Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 40:43Speaker 6: And Izzy, you mentioned how old he was when he
- 40:45Speaker 6: was tweeting. So this says he was 13, in between
- 40:49Speaker 6: 13 and 15 when he was tweeting some of these things.
- 40:53Speaker 6: It does seem a bit harsh firing him because of
- 40:55Speaker 6: this mistake he made when he was a teenager. Because
- 41:00Speaker 6: when you hire him, I think he should have been
- 41:02Speaker 6: at least afforded the opportunity to take accountability for what
- 41:06Speaker 6: he did, make it clear that it doesn't reflect who
- 41:09Speaker 6: he is today as an adult. and then have the
- 41:11Speaker 6: opportunity to kind of learn and grow from it instead
- 41:14Speaker 6: of just cutting off all ties and saying this guy
- 41:16Speaker 6: should never be a broadcaster again.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Just to play the other side, if you're the announcer,
- 41:20Speaker 1: do you announce that on the front end to the Blazers?
- 41:22Speaker 3: Like, hey, you're going to find this if you really
- 41:24Speaker 3: dig on me.
- 41:26Speaker 4: Well, I don't know if he went back and deleted
- 41:28Speaker 4: those and then, you know, the Internet's forever. So somehow
- 41:31Speaker 4: somebody found those. But it seems like it was just
- 41:34Speaker 4: a mistake where he forgot to delete those things because
- 41:36Speaker 4: they happened when he was 13 years old. But I'm
- 41:39Speaker 4: here to tell everybody who's about to get a big,
- 41:41Speaker 4: important job. Go check your old social media post and
- 41:44Speaker 4: erase anything that might be questionable.
- 41:47Speaker 6: Stu, on the topic of broadcasting.
- 41:49Speaker 3: Well, hold on, Taylor.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Just check my social media post, okay, when you get
- 41:52Speaker 1: a chance. Anyway, what were you saying?
- 41:54Speaker 6: On the topic of broadcasting.
- 41:56Speaker 2: Yes.
- 41:57Speaker 6: Is it not crazy that with Kirk Herbstreit's contract with Prime,
- 42:01Speaker 6: there's an out clause if Sean McVay wants the job?
- 42:04Speaker 3: Yes, I was telling you about that yesterday.
- 42:06Speaker 1: Herbstreit agreed to a deal, re-up with Thursday Night Football
- 42:10Speaker 1: with Al Michaels.
- 42:11Speaker 3: Who's getting slightly better. I think he's listening to.
- 42:13Speaker 1: All the criticism, and he's actually trying the last couple
- 42:17Speaker 1: of weeks. But there is an out, not for Kirk Herbstreet.
- 42:20Speaker 1: He was forced to take the out. There's an out
- 42:23Speaker 1: for Amazon in the event that Sean McVay wants that jump.
- 42:25Speaker 3: Really? Yes.
- 42:27Speaker 4: I'm not a big Herbstreet fan, so I hope McVay
- 42:29Speaker 4: decides to go into television, frankly.
- 42:31Speaker 3: Did I just say that out loud?
- 42:33Speaker 6: But could McVay be that good that you need this
- 42:35Speaker 6: out clause?
- 42:37Speaker 4: I think what you want is a guy who's– I
- 42:39Speaker 4: think there should be sort of a rotating situation for
- 42:42Speaker 4: these analysts where for the first three or four years
- 42:45Speaker 4: when you're just out of the league, that's when you're
- 42:48Speaker 4: at your best. When you've been there for too long,
- 42:50Speaker 4: then you kind of get stale, except for Tony Romo
- 42:52Speaker 4: because he's just so excited.
- 42:56Speaker 1: Izzy has a big, bold prediction for the upcoming NBA season.
- 43:00Speaker 3: Chris Simms is going to join us. in about 10 minutes.
- 43:03Speaker 1: So before we get to Sims and we'll wrap up
- 43:05Speaker 1: the week by updating the polls, Izzy's excited for the
- 43:08Speaker 1: NBA season.
- 43:09Speaker 3: He has predictions for the NBA season. I haven't thought about.
- 43:12Speaker 1: The NBA season since the Knicks won the Larry O'Brien trophy.
- 43:16Speaker 1: But Izzy's here, and it's time to talk some NBA.
- 43:18Speaker 4: I am super excited about the season, and it's not
- 43:20Speaker 4: just because the Miami Heat are relevant again and going
- 43:23Speaker 4: to be good. It's just there's a lot of good
- 43:24Speaker 4: things going on. The East seems to be loaded, which
- 43:27Speaker 4: doesn't really happen that often. But my big prediction, and
- 43:30Speaker 4: I believe I'm going to steal a phrase from a
- 43:32Speaker 4: noted Celtics fan here. Hey, Boston Celtics. Welcome to the play-in.
- 43:38Speaker 3: Get out of here.
- 43:39Speaker 4: I'm telling you, I don't understand the prediction of 50-plus wins.
- 43:43Speaker 3: For this team.
- 43:44Speaker 4: I saw that most sportsbooks have them at right around 50,
- 43:46Speaker 4: 50-and-a-half wins.
- 43:48Speaker 3: How do you predict that?
- 43:51Speaker 4: Taylor, do you think Jason Tatum, as the one-man band,
- 43:56Speaker 4: is good enough for 50 wins in a deep east
- 43:59Speaker 4: when he's coming off? Now, I know he played 17
- 44:01Speaker 4: games last season, played the six out of the seven
- 44:03Speaker 4: games in the postseason. But we don't know if he's
- 44:06Speaker 4: going to be be able to play that well for
- 44:09Speaker 4: that long. Paul George has not been a second option
- 44:13Speaker 4: in three years. And last two years, he barely played.
- 44:17Speaker 4: And he's one of those. And he's missed 25 games
- 44:20Speaker 4: last season from a PED suspension that he said was
- 44:23Speaker 4: due to mental health concerns. You think under pressure as
- 44:27Speaker 4: a replacement for a Finals MVP in his prime in
- 44:30Speaker 4: Jalen Brown that Paul George is all of a sudden
- 44:33Speaker 4: going to go back to, you know, top five, top
- 44:35Speaker 4: ten MVP type of player? He's not. Go back and
- 44:39Speaker 4: look at Derek White's numbers, shooting numbers last year.
- 44:42Speaker 3: They were bad.
- 44:43Speaker 4: He's played in a lot of games over the last
- 44:45Speaker 4: few years, and his shooting just wasn't great last season.
- 44:48Speaker 4: And in the postseason, it got even worse. and you're basically,
- 44:51Speaker 4: you look, now their center spot's going to be solid, right?
- 44:54Speaker 4: But you look at everybody else that they're going to
- 44:55Speaker 4: rely on, one or two of these guys, either Hugo Gonzalez,
- 44:59Speaker 4: Baylor Shireman, or who's the third guy? Either Baylor Shireman,
- 45:05Speaker 4: Hugo Gonzalez, or Sam Hauser are going to have to
- 45:08Speaker 4: have huge leaps in their production for them to come
- 45:11Speaker 4: anywhere near the type of team they've been the last
- 45:14Speaker 4: few years.
- 45:15Speaker 3: Did you say a Hugo leap? A Hugo leap.
- 45:18Speaker 1: Wait, so you're saying that the Celtics They will make
- 45:21Speaker 1: the playoffs, but they'll make it as a play-in team.
- 45:24Speaker 4: I'm not even saying they'll make the playoffs. I'm saying
- 45:26Speaker 4: welcome to the play-in, where one or two losses could
- 45:29Speaker 4: mean you're not in the playoffs. I mean, Taylor has
- 45:32Speaker 4: a confused look on his face, but there are 11, 10,
- 45:35Speaker 4: maybe 11 teams in the Eastern Conference that you could
- 45:37Speaker 4: argue are playoff teams.
- 45:39Speaker 3: I'm not confused by it. We'll get to Taylor in
- 45:41Speaker 3: just a second. You're right.
- 45:42Speaker 1: The Heat are better. The Pacers get Halliburton back. The
- 45:46Speaker 1: Pistons are still a pretty good team. The Raptors got
- 45:48Speaker 1: a lot better.
- 45:49Speaker 4: The Cavs got better with Peyton Watson. The Knicks, the
- 45:52Speaker 4: Raptors with Kawhi Leonard. The Magic are still good. The
- 45:54Speaker 4: Hawks still have a solid lineup. And the Wizards might
- 45:57Speaker 4: be a very good team if they stay healthy, which
- 45:59Speaker 4: is scary to ask.
- 46:00Speaker 3: It's a hot take. I like it, Taylor. Boston flirting
- 46:03Speaker 3: with not making the playoffs. How about that?
- 46:05Speaker 6: Izzy, does Missoula deserve the benefit of the doubt, though?
- 46:07Speaker 6: Because nobody really everybody kind of expected the Celtics team
- 46:10Speaker 6: to be a lottery team last year. And they were
- 46:12Speaker 6: the two seed in a pretty good East, finishing 56
- 46:15Speaker 6: and 26.
- 46:16Speaker 4: But Missoula ball is basically take as many threes as
- 46:18Speaker 4: you can. And we're going to win somehow because we
- 46:20Speaker 4: got three point shooters. And what I'm saying is they
- 46:23Speaker 4: don't have enough of those high-quality players, just a bunch
- 46:27Speaker 4: of shooters. Jason Tatum can't create that much. Derek White
- 46:30Speaker 4: can't create that much for those guys.
- 46:31Speaker 1: All right, so we got your hot NBA take, and
- 46:33Speaker 1: now Taylor has one before we get to Chris.
- 46:35Speaker 6: I've got a bigger NBA take, Izzy.
- 46:36Speaker 3: Yeah, what's that?
- 46:37Speaker 6: Knicks go back-to-back.
- 46:38Speaker 3: No, get out of here.
- 46:42Speaker 6: There's no time like October. The NLDS is here streaming
- 46:45Speaker 6: live on Fox 1. It's the Braves against the Dodgers
- 46:47Speaker 6: and the Padres taking on the top-seeded Brewers. Win and
- 46:50Speaker 6: you're one step closer to the World Series. Lose and
- 46:53Speaker 6: your season's over. This is postseason baseball at its best,
- 46:56Speaker 6: the kind of October magic that doesn't wait for the recap.
- 46:59Speaker 6: Here's the good news. You can catch every pitch, every swing,
- 47:02Speaker 6: every walk-off live streaming on Fox 1. Catch the Braves
- 47:05Speaker 6: versus the Dodgers and the Padres versus the Brewers. Live
- 47:08Speaker 6: on Fox 1. There's no time like October, and there's
- 47:11Speaker 6: no better place to stream the magic than Fox 1.
- 47:14Speaker 6: Big one for the Padres.
- 47:16Speaker 3: Stu? Yeah.
- 47:17Speaker 6: This feels like a now or never year for the Padres.
- 47:19Speaker 6: They're the hottest team in baseball.
- 47:20Speaker 5: Right.
- 47:21Speaker 6: Exactly at the right time. They're peaking 20-4 over their
- 47:24Speaker 6: last 24 games.
- 47:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:25Speaker 6: They got the Cubs up out of there.
- 47:27Speaker 3: Yeah. More importantly.
- 47:28Speaker 6: I think they're built for October.
- 47:30Speaker 1: Why are you giving me a hot take about the
- 47:32Speaker 1: San Diego Padres, a team we've never discussed ever, just
- 47:35Speaker 1: because you mentioned them in a read?
- 47:37Speaker 6: I love this Padres team. They have the bullpen to
- 47:40Speaker 6: shorten games. They have the star power in Fernando Tatis Jr.
- 47:43Speaker 6: and Manny Machado.
- 47:45Speaker 3: Yes, but who asked you?
- 47:47Speaker 4: I'm confused.
- 47:50Speaker 6: Plus 150 over the Brewers. We know the Brewers are pretenders.
- 47:53Speaker 1: Yes, but I didn't... Again, I'm confused. You read a commercial.
- 47:57Speaker 1: It mentioned the Padres. It also mentioned three other teams.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Why a hot take on the Padres?
- 48:02Speaker 6: So I started reading that and the wheels got spinning
- 48:05Speaker 6: in my head like a hamster running on a wheel.
- 48:09Speaker 1: It's always great to have Israel Gutierrez in studio with us.
- 48:13Speaker 1: Our thanks to Chris Sims for joining us in that
- 48:16Speaker 1: last segment. An odd Padres take from Taylor. Let's wrap
- 48:22Speaker 1: up the week. by updating the polls at Stugatz790 on X.
- 48:27Speaker 3: Give me the music, and Taylor, let's update the polls.
- 48:31Speaker 1: I really love doing it like this because Izzy is
- 48:34Speaker 1: only in on Fridays, so he has no idea what
- 48:37Speaker 1: we've discussed Monday through Thursday. So all of these will
- 48:40Speaker 1: be a surprise to Israel Gutierrez because he unfollowed me
- 48:43Speaker 1: on Twitter.
- 48:45Speaker 3: I'm not on Twitter. He's not on Twitter. I went
- 48:49Speaker 3: for a joke.
- 48:50Speaker 4: I've been out for a few years now.
- 48:54Speaker 6: Izzy, there's one guarantee that we talk about every week.
- 48:57Speaker 6: Are the Raiders for real?
- 48:58Speaker 3: Oh, yes. For years. I hope not.
- 49:02Speaker 4: I got a big parlay for this weekend, and the
- 49:04Speaker 4: Saints is the winner of that game.
- 49:05Speaker 6: 65% of the audience said, no, Raiders, not for real.
- 49:09Speaker 3: All right, time out. What's the parlay? Raiders play the Chiefs.
- 49:11Speaker 3: What were you saying?
- 49:12Speaker 4: No, don't the Raiders play the Saints this week?
- 49:14Speaker 3: No, I think the Raiders play the Chiefs this week.
- 49:15Speaker 6: Raiders play the Chiefs.
- 49:16Speaker 3: We'll find out if they're for real. Yes. My bad.
- 49:20Speaker 3: My bad. They just beat the Saints. I know, but Taylor,
- 49:24Speaker 3: he might want to check his parlay. Is he recapping
- 49:26Speaker 3: last week? I was confused with last week. My bad.
- 49:29Speaker 1: That's what happens when you keep taking these long weekends.
- 49:33Speaker 6: Does Cam Ward live on the corner of third and long?
- 49:37Speaker 3: Yes, he does. He's always there.
- 49:39Speaker 6: That means with his thumb out 96 of the audience
- 49:43Speaker 6: said yes that's exactly where cam ward lives all right
- 49:47Speaker 6: are the vikings the worst three and oh team in
- 49:49Speaker 6: nfl history.
- 49:50Speaker 10: Wow hmm they're three and oh and they don't have
- 49:54Speaker 10: a quarterback they are their quarterback away yes and still
- 49:57Speaker 10: three and oh not a defensive way not a defensive
- 50:00Speaker 10: coordinator away.
- 50:01Speaker 1: They are going to kill the dolphins the quarterback whisperer
- 50:04Speaker 1: who makes all quarterbacks great is still a quarterback away
- 50:07Speaker 1: it's amazing.
- 50:07Speaker 6: 52% of the audience said yes, the Vikings are the
- 50:11Speaker 6: worst 3-0 team. A lot of people in Minnesota were
- 50:13Speaker 6: very upset about.
- 50:14Speaker 3: That, by the way. So they're worse than the Raiders.
- 50:18Speaker 6: Yeah, that's what a lot of Minnesota people were saying.
- 50:20Speaker 6: They're not even the worst 3-0 team in the league.
- 50:21Speaker 3: Why do fans get mad at that stuff? They're still 3-0.
- 50:24Speaker 3: It doesn't matter what we say. I mean, they're a
- 50:27Speaker 3: bad 3-0. Big one for Stu here. Yeah, for me? Wow.
- 50:31Speaker 6: Will Dylan Rayola be the Jets' starting quarterback next season?
- 50:35Speaker 6: Saw some flashes.
- 50:37Speaker 1: We did see some flashes.
- 50:39Speaker 3: He looked a lot better. He's taking his craft seriously.
- 50:41Speaker 4: I will say the Jets, the far more serious team
- 50:44Speaker 4: in New York because the Giants are just a joke
- 50:47Speaker 4: between Scataboo and Jameis Winston. Get them out of here.
- 50:50Speaker 3: Two and one.
- 50:50Speaker 8: Joke.
- 50:50Speaker 6: 71% of the audience said yes, Dylan Rayola, pencil him in.
- 50:57Speaker 6: Jets starting quarterback.
- 50:58Speaker 3: The J in Jets stands for joke.
- 51:01Speaker 2: Yes.
- 51:02Speaker 3: But it's Giants. But it's Giants.
- 51:04Speaker 1: I was trying to make a joke where I said
- 51:05Speaker 1: the J in Jets stands for the Giants are a joke,
- 51:08Speaker 1: but you can't do that.
- 51:08Speaker 3: I think it's a J in Giants is a joke.
- 51:11Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 51:12Speaker 6: Should the Giants say they found something in J.J. McCarthy's
- 51:16Speaker 6: medical and trade for Case Keenum instead?
- 51:20Speaker 1: Me spelling the Giants with a J was the joke.
- 51:23Speaker 1: I apologize, Israel. It's going to sit with me the
- 51:25Speaker 1: entire weekend. What was that poll question?
- 51:27Speaker 3: I missed it. I'm sorry.
- 51:28Speaker 6: Should the Giants say they found something in J.J. McCarthy's
- 51:31Speaker 6: medical and trade for Case Keenum instead?
- 51:36Speaker 3: I think J.J. McCarthy is going to start there eventually.
- 51:39Speaker 3: I do. For the Giants with a J.
- 51:42Speaker 6: Anyway, go ahead. 91% of the audience said yes. Get
- 51:47Speaker 6: Case Keenum to New York.
- 51:49Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 51:49Speaker 4: Can you put this on the poll for next week?
- 51:51Speaker 4: Did Josh Pate realize he's going to be on TV
- 51:54Speaker 4: and immediately start doing steroids? This guy has the largest
- 51:58Speaker 4: arms I've ever seen on television, and he's never, I
- 52:01Speaker 4: don't think he's ever played.
- 52:03Speaker 1: I'm not certain if he's played. I do have a
- 52:05Speaker 1: theory if he hasn't played. Since he's becoming ESPN's college
- 52:09Speaker 1: football guy and he does a college football podcast, I
- 52:12Speaker 1: think he feels the need to be jacked.
- 52:15Speaker 3: Up because he's talking football.
- 52:16Speaker 4: He looks inflated. Like, it's crazy.
- 52:18Speaker 3: I'm sorry to disrupt.
- 52:20Speaker 11: No, it's a good disruption. I'm glad you went there.
- 52:24Speaker 11: I've been thinking about it for weeks. Izzy, this is
- 52:27Speaker 11: a big one. We might need you to settle it
- 52:29Speaker 11: before I read the results.
- 52:30Speaker 2: Okay.
- 52:31Speaker 6: The Bears win the Super Bowl this year. There's one
- 52:34Speaker 6: table left at Chicago's hottest restaurant. Who gets it? Michael
- 52:38Speaker 6: Jordan or the duo of Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson?
- 52:41Speaker 1: I can't believe they wanted to have this discussion. They
- 52:43Speaker 1: were being serious, both him and Mikey A. And I
- 52:46Speaker 1: was like, it's Jordan.
- 52:46Speaker 6: Chicago is a football town, though, is he?
- 52:48Speaker 3: No, it's Jordan's town. Oh, man.
- 52:50Speaker 4: Do you want to give the results first or do
- 52:52Speaker 4: you want me to give my answer first?
- 52:53Speaker 3: I want you to give your answer first.
- 52:54Speaker 4: I think we're all prisoners of the moment. I say
- 52:56Speaker 4: it's going to be Caleb Williams and his coach.
- 52:59Speaker 5: Wow.
- 53:00Speaker 6: No feel of the audience. Michael Jordan, 61%.
- 53:02Speaker 8: 61%.
- 53:02Speaker 4: I thought it was 50-50, and you were looking for
- 53:05Speaker 4: me to break the surprise.
- 53:06Speaker 3: It's that low. Jesus.
- 53:08Speaker 6: Big one here for Izzy, because I know he's a
- 53:10Speaker 6: Florida Panthers guy. Johnny come lately with his Panthers recent dynasty.
- 53:15Speaker 6: Did you know hockey was back today?
- 53:17Speaker 3: That was on Tuesday.
- 53:18Speaker 1: Taylor had a small surprise fact of the day for us,
- 53:22Speaker 1: and that surprise fact was that hockey was back.
- 53:25Speaker 3: I was shocked.
- 53:25Speaker 4: It's crazy how quickly they go from preseason to regular season.
- 53:28Speaker 4: It was like preseason game Saturday, boom. Regular season Tuesday
- 53:31Speaker 4: at 5 o'clock.
- 53:32Speaker 3: For some reason.
- 53:32Speaker 1: What a way to open the season, though, for the Panthers, huh, Forsling?
- 53:36Speaker 1: 4.7 seconds to go, huh?
- 53:36Speaker 3: They lost Barkov for a while. I know. Sorry.
- 53:39Speaker 6: Has it never happened before?
- 53:41Speaker 3: What happened? 50-50. Get out of here.
- 53:43Speaker 5: 50-50.
- 53:43Speaker 8: Wow.
- 53:49Speaker 6: Is mahogany a great word?
- 53:50Speaker 3: Yes.
- 53:51Speaker 4: Can I get some context on that, please?
- 53:53Speaker 3: Well, you're going to laugh. Kenneth Gainwell was on the
- 53:56Speaker 3: show with us. Okay. Great name. I thought he was
- 53:59Speaker 3: in a study that was filled with mahogany. It was
- 54:02Speaker 3: a green screen.
- 54:03Speaker 6: He just kept complimenting his background and saying how expensive
- 54:07Speaker 6: Kenneth Gainwell's house looked like. And Kenneth Gainwell didn't have
- 54:10Speaker 6: the heart to tell him, nor me or Mikey have
- 54:12Speaker 6: the heart to tell him it was a green screen background.
- 54:14Speaker 3: But they were all looking at each other like, this
- 54:16Speaker 3: guy is old, man. That's a great word. Mahogany. I
- 54:21Speaker 3: said that. Thank you.
- 54:22Speaker 6: 88% of the audience agreed and said mahogany is a
- 54:25Speaker 6: great word.
- 54:26Speaker 3: Thank you. It was a poll question.
- 54:28Speaker 6: Big one for me here. Is game two a must
- 54:32Speaker 6: win for the Yankees? So they were up 1-0.
- 54:34Speaker 5: Yes.
- 54:35Speaker 6: And they won game two.
- 54:36Speaker 3: Best of three.
- 54:37Speaker 1: If they lost that game, they still would have had
- 54:38Speaker 1: a game three at home with Garrett Cole on the hill.
- 54:41Speaker 4: It feels like every Yankees game is a must win
- 54:44Speaker 4: with Taylor.
- 54:44Speaker 6: For me.
- 54:45Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah.
- 54:45Speaker 3: Well, it is.
- 54:46Speaker 6: My mental health depends on it.
- 54:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 54:47Speaker 6: For the most part. But 67% of the audience agreed.
- 54:51Speaker 3: Wow.
- 54:52Speaker 6: Game two was a must win for the Yankees.
- 54:53Speaker 3: Idiots. Crazy Yankee fans. Not as dumb as the Red Sox, though.
- 54:56Speaker 1: Adnan couldn't join us that day until I gave him
- 54:58Speaker 1: Taylor's take. And then Adnan couldn't get to a phone
- 55:00Speaker 1: quick enough.
- 55:02Speaker 6: So Izzy, you mentioned idiot Yankee fans. This poll question is,
- 55:06Speaker 6: is the only kind of Yankee fan an arrogant Yankee fan?
- 55:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:12Speaker 3: I mean, it's gotta be right.
- 55:13Speaker 4: They're always good.
- 55:15Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 55:15Speaker 3: And they're always upset because they're not good enough.
- 55:18Speaker 5: Right.
- 55:20Speaker 6: Eight, 89% of the audience said yes.
- 55:22Speaker 3: All right. One more poll for us.
- 55:25Speaker 2: Yep.
- 55:26Speaker 6: J-Lo's kid that goes to the University of Iowa. Is
- 55:29Speaker 6: he lost?
- 55:36Speaker 3: Oh, my goodness. He must be terrible at offense, but
- 55:38Speaker 3: great at defense. He's just a student. Wow.
- 55:43Speaker 6: He willingly chose that school.
- 55:45Speaker 4: We want to go as far away from fame as
- 55:47Speaker 4: he possibly could.
- 55:48Speaker 3: Well, he got there.
- 55:49Speaker 6: 87% of the audience said yes. J-Lo's kid that goes
- 55:54Speaker 6: to the University of Iowa is lost. Stu, those are
- 55:57Speaker 6: the polls.
- 55:57Speaker 3: All right. Thank you, Taylor. Izzy, great to see you.
- 55:59Speaker 3: Everyone have a great weekend.
