- 0:05Speaker 1: I'm Sean Gunn and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Movie Meltdown.
- 0:25Speaker 3: It's showtime.
- 0:26Speaker 2: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:29Speaker 2: Picture Association of America.
- 0:31Speaker 4: It is intended for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised.
- 0:35Speaker 4: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Five more cooling in the containment chamber. To your stations,
- 1:09Speaker 1: we have a movie meltdown.
- 1:11Speaker 5: I'm here to talk to you about the Avenger Initiative.
- 1:22Speaker 5: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:24Speaker 1: And I'm your prime fanatic, George.
- 1:26Speaker 5: And we're coming to you live via digital recording back
- 1:29Speaker 5: in the Oddity Studios. It has been a weird run lately.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 1:35Speaker 5: Things have kind of sucked in regular life. I won't
- 1:38Speaker 5: go into all of them. Some of which, if you're
- 1:40Speaker 5: on Facebook, you may have seen. There's a whole nother
- 1:43Speaker 5: horrible thing I didn't post on there because it's bigger
- 1:45Speaker 5: and more horrible. And so, yeah, terrible things. But I
- 1:49Speaker 5: won't go into those and drag the show down, hopefully.
- 1:52Speaker 5: But I will say I'm in the process of all
- 1:56Speaker 5: these ridiculous, terrible things happening. I'm reassessing life in general.
- 2:01Speaker 5: And obviously you're listening to this, so I've decided this
- 2:04Speaker 5: is important.
- 2:05Speaker 1: I want to keep doing this. The thing I'm going to.
- 2:07Speaker 5: Throw out there to people is what do you want
- 2:10Speaker 5: us to do? Because I'm to the point of like,
- 2:13Speaker 5: I don't... There's a lot of stuff I used to
- 2:15Speaker 5: kind of worry about with the show or try to
- 2:17Speaker 5: do with the show. And as time went on, I went,
- 2:20Speaker 5: I don't really care. So I'm to the point now,
- 2:22Speaker 5: I'm just like, I'm just going to do what I
- 2:23Speaker 5: want to do, which is why we're here doing this.
- 2:26Speaker 1: That's right.
- 2:26Speaker 5: And why we just did the Horror Club episode. Not
- 2:29Speaker 5: that I like... Hanging out with my friends and talking
- 2:31Speaker 5: about movies.
- 2:32Speaker 1: That's pretty much it.
- 2:33Speaker 5: So if you guys want anything else, like there was
- 2:36Speaker 5: a thing I was supposed to go do last weekend,
- 2:38Speaker 5: and I wasn't up for it. I was just like,
- 2:41Speaker 5: I don't feel like it. I don't know that anybody
- 2:43Speaker 5: out there is going to care either. So here's my thing.
- 2:46Speaker 5: Email in.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Let me know.
- 2:47Speaker 5: If you want us to do anything specific, if you
- 2:49Speaker 5: want us to do any of those things we maybe
- 2:51Speaker 5: used to do before and haven't in a while.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Let me know.
- 2:55Speaker 5: If not, I'm going to do what I want to
- 2:57Speaker 5: do and what... the rest of the cast who shows
- 3:00Speaker 5: up somewhat regularly. As long as you guys are having
- 3:03Speaker 5: fun and we're doing stuff we want to do, that's
- 3:06Speaker 5: all I'm going to focus on. So you guys let
- 3:09Speaker 5: me know if you have other thoughts.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Email.
- 3:13Speaker 5: If you're a grandparent, you can Facebook.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 3:15Speaker 5: Whatever. I don't bother with most other social medias because
- 3:18Speaker 5: they're all annoying.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Well, I've got an idea for you here. Whether you
- 3:23Speaker 1: and I want to do this or whether you want
- 3:25Speaker 1: to do this for the horror club or not.
- 3:27Speaker 6: All right.
- 3:28Speaker 1: The subject would be banned movies. Movies that have been
- 3:32Speaker 1: banned either in the United States, overseas. Or the Video Nasties.
- 3:36Speaker 1: The Video Nasties from Great Britain. Whatever the case may be.
- 3:38Speaker 1: But movies that were banned, ones you particularly liked, and
- 3:42Speaker 1: maybe why they were banned.
- 3:44Speaker 5: Well, definitely the one I wanted to get back with
- 3:48Speaker 5: you and get going. We threw out our sort of
- 3:51Speaker 5: ridiculous movies or drive-in movies.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 3:54Speaker 5: All of our weird stuff that we started doing. Earlier
- 3:57Speaker 5: this past year, but we got sidetracked again. Many things
- 4:01Speaker 5: didn't happen in the last several months. So that's one
- 4:04Speaker 5: I want to come back to.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Yeah, we've only seen one of the Bronx Warriors films.
- 4:07Speaker 1: There are two classics still to come.
- 4:10Speaker 5: So we definitely have those. I have other questions. I'll
- 4:13Speaker 5: throw out at the end for our other things we've
- 4:16Speaker 5: been doing. But definitely the drive-in movies and the Grindhouse
- 4:22Speaker 5: movies and any of the weird ones we've come up with.
- 4:24Speaker 5: I would definitely want to get that going again. A
- 4:27Speaker 5: little more than we have.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Let me get my Joe Bob Briggs string tied up here.
- 4:33Speaker 7: Joe Bob.
- 4:35Speaker 1: We don't need Joe Bob. We're going to do our
- 4:37Speaker 1: own thing. We love Joe Bob. I love Joe Bob.
- 4:41Speaker 5: I spent so much time devoted to him early on.
- 4:45Speaker 5: And then as time went on, I went, he's fine.
- 4:47Speaker 1: But I don't know.
- 4:48Speaker 5: Just now it's like there's this weird resurgence of people
- 4:51Speaker 5: that like now like love him.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And I'm like, I don't know. I was watching him
- 4:56Speaker 1: on the movie channel like. 30, 40 years ago. It
- 4:59Speaker 1: helps that he's still on shutter doing the thing on there.
- 5:01Speaker 1: And then when Halloween shows up, he's got a marathon
- 5:04Speaker 1: he does, or he'll do, you know, he does all
- 5:07Speaker 1: kinds of stuff on shutter. The last drive-in is going
- 5:09Speaker 1: to go into its fourth season. or sixth season or
- 5:12Speaker 1: anyway it feels like yeah at least six he got
- 5:15Speaker 1: he got renewed for another season so everything's coming up joe.
- 5:17Speaker 5: Bob it's just interesting it was such a lull like
- 5:20Speaker 5: because i remember it being the big deal back in
- 5:23Speaker 5: the day oh yeah he had monster vision which was
- 5:25Speaker 5: sort of in the middle there but also yeah not
- 5:28Speaker 5: everybody got that channel at the time so it was
- 5:30Speaker 5: sort of under the radar and then like there was
- 5:32Speaker 5: kind of nothing for a long time and you'd still
- 5:35Speaker 5: see him We ran into him at conventions.
- 5:37Speaker 1: He was still out there. He was still writing.
- 5:39Speaker 5: But it just wasn't the big push. And then somehow,
- 5:44Speaker 5: good points to him for making this come back around.
- 5:47Speaker 5: But yeah, as he got up there, he came back
- 5:51Speaker 5: in a way that I'm sure even he never expected.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Well, he latched on to Shudder when Shudder wasn't even
- 5:58Speaker 1: an app. It was just a website. Yeah. And latched
- 6:01Speaker 1: onto them, did his, you know, last drive-in stuff. And
- 6:03Speaker 1: literally when he did the last drive-in, he thought, this
- 6:07Speaker 1: is going to be my last broadcast. That's why he
- 6:09Speaker 1: called it that. And then, you know, several seasons later.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Everybody kept going, oh, look, it's JoBlo. Yeah, but I
- 6:15Speaker 1: think it had everything to do with the fact that,
- 6:17Speaker 1: you know, He grew with Shudder and now it's grown
- 6:22Speaker 1: into an app and it's very popular with horror fans.
- 6:24Speaker 1: They have some good content on there. He's now presenting
- 6:29Speaker 1: himself to a whole new audience and then doing cons
- 6:31Speaker 1: and stuff like that. He's just sticking around with the
- 6:35Speaker 1: fans and there's not many... Horror hosts that are left active.
- 6:39Speaker 1: That's the thing, yeah. You know, Elvira's retired. You know,
- 6:41Speaker 1: we still got Sven Gulli on the local, you know, stuff.
- 6:43Speaker 5: Sven Gulli's about the only, like, other national one, you know?
- 6:47Speaker 5: There's still pockets of people on the internet that started
- 6:49Speaker 5: their own thing. But as far as recognizable national names, yeah,
- 6:53Speaker 5: it's like, Elvira hasn't really done it consistently in years.
- 6:56Speaker 1: So it's like.
- 6:57Speaker 5: It's been gooey and joe bobs about all there is.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know if Dr. Gangrene's still out of
- 7:01Speaker 1: Nashville or not.
- 7:02Speaker 5: He's still doing it, but I think he's, yeah, because
- 7:05Speaker 5: I still see him post.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Stuff on there.
- 7:06Speaker 5: We added him years ago, but I think most of
- 7:09Speaker 5: his stuff still is sort of Nashville-based.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Yeah, and of course he's probably still going down anyway,
- 7:13Speaker 1: because let's see, I mean, he's been doing that for 20,
- 7:16Speaker 1: 30 years at least.
- 7:18Speaker 5: I remember talking to him years and years ago, and
- 7:21Speaker 5: he'd still been doing it forever even then. So yeah, he's...
- 7:25Speaker 5: He's made a life of it, too, so it's more
- 7:27Speaker 5: power to you. If somebody wants to give me a show,
- 7:30Speaker 5: I'll run weird movies that are probably in the public domain.
- 7:33Speaker 5: But without funding, it's too much work.
- 7:36Speaker 1: You would need comedy writers. No, no, we're hilarious.
- 7:40Speaker 5: I don't know what you're talking about. And I've seen
- 7:43Speaker 5: what they put on their comedy writers, and I'm not
- 7:45Speaker 5: thrilled most.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Of the time.
- 7:47Speaker 5: I don't know that they have comedy writers on some
- 7:50Speaker 5: of these shows. No names.
- 7:51Speaker 1: But.
- 7:52Speaker 5: We could put together equally as good a stuff. So
- 7:55Speaker 5: somebody throw some money at us. We'll put it together.
- 7:57Speaker 5: There's a lot of channels out there now. There's a
- 7:59Speaker 5: lot of streaming services.
- 8:01Speaker 1: We'll make a show for you.
- 8:03Speaker 5: We'll do our weird drive-in show. We can do horror.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Whatever you want.
- 8:06Speaker 7: We can throw it together.
- 8:11Speaker 5: So normally at the front of these, we're technically... bringing
- 8:16Speaker 5: back the super series and normally on these i'll we
- 8:22Speaker 5: pair it off and with what's been going on streaming
- 8:26Speaker 5: wise a lot of times and this is probably a
- 8:30Speaker 5: sign of how the entire episode will go um and
- 8:35Speaker 5: this will be no surprise to you because i feel
- 8:37Speaker 5: like increasingly over the past year to two years I
- 8:41Speaker 5: have less and less good.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Things to say. Right, yeah.
- 8:45Speaker 5: Yeah, I could not make it through Secret Invasion.
- 8:50Speaker 1: I was so bored.
- 8:52Speaker 5: I am sorry.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I stuck with it, but what's fascinating to me was
- 8:59Speaker 1: the behind-the-scenes stuff that went on with that show that
- 9:02Speaker 1: affected its quality. See, I didn't even know that. I
- 9:05Speaker 1: just watched.
- 9:06Speaker 5: And I got several episodes in, and I'm just like,
- 9:09Speaker 5: every one of them, which, granted, as Everyone who listens
- 9:12Speaker 5: to this knows I fall asleep on anything. But it
- 9:14Speaker 5: was one of those, I couldn't make myself restart the
- 9:17Speaker 5: episode sometimes.
- 9:18Speaker 1: I was like, I just don't care. I don't care.
- 9:22Speaker 1: And it almost seems like the show didn't have... The
- 9:26Speaker 1: only main point now is that there's mixed reception to
- 9:33Speaker 1: the Skrulls on Earth now. Because now you've got people
- 9:36Speaker 1: who know the Skrulls exist on Earth. They've copied other people,
- 9:40Speaker 1: and so now you've got right-winger nuts shooting people at
- 9:43Speaker 1: press conferences because they think they're a Skrull, and they're not.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Whatever the case may be. So you've got a lot
- 9:48Speaker 1: of paranoia, a lot of that stuff. Where we're going
- 9:51Speaker 1: to see this again, I don't know.
- 9:53Speaker 5: That is, again, what little I saw of it of
- 9:56Speaker 5: the first several episodes i kept trying to watch there
- 9:58Speaker 5: but i was like that was also part of what
- 10:01Speaker 5: was killing it for me i was like there's only
- 10:04Speaker 5: so many times we can do that oh they were
- 10:06Speaker 5: scrolling along and i'm like well at this point then
- 10:08Speaker 5: nothing nothing matters like we don't know what we're watching
- 10:11Speaker 5: we don't know if we should be invested in these
- 10:13Speaker 5: characters because it might not be these characters oh that
- 10:15Speaker 5: person got killed oh wait it's okay they were just
- 10:17Speaker 5: a scroll it wasn't really them i'm like What are
- 10:20Speaker 5: we watching then? Nothing has any stakes if you don't
- 10:23Speaker 5: know what the hell it is that you're invested in.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 10:25Speaker 5: So a lot of that took its toll on me too.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Well, my problem with it is that the secret invasion
- 10:31Speaker 1: in the comics was a fantastic storyline because what it
- 10:34Speaker 1: is that... You know, for years you've had the Skrulls
- 10:36Speaker 1: in the Marvel Universe, and usually, like, you know, Wolverine
- 10:40Speaker 1: could sniff out a Skrull because he could smell the difference. Or, like,
- 10:44Speaker 1: Reed Richards would have some kind of device that could
- 10:47Speaker 1: see which is Skrull, which is, you know, something like that. Well,
- 10:49Speaker 1: flash forward to many years in the Skrull, you know, story,
- 10:54Speaker 1: their home world had been destroyed in the comics, and
- 10:57Speaker 1: so they were looking for a new place. Earth has
- 11:00Speaker 1: always been a desirable place, and yadda, yadda, yadda. Well,
- 11:03Speaker 1: you've got this sect of Skrulls now that basically are
- 11:06Speaker 1: religious zealots. They have figured out a way that a
- 11:11Speaker 1: Skrull can adapt a personality, but to the point where
- 11:16Speaker 1: the line is completely blurred of what they were versus
- 11:20Speaker 1: what they are now.
- 11:22Speaker 5: This is even more why I don't like them. Religious weirdos.
- 11:25Speaker 5: I'm already not on board in the real world, let
- 11:28Speaker 5: alone Skrull world.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Well, yeah, they kept doing this thing when they would
- 11:31Speaker 1: capture people or kill people and whatnot. As I suppose
- 11:35Speaker 1: a comforting thing before they get offed, the Skrull person
- 11:38Speaker 1: would tell them, God loves you. But then you finally
- 11:41Speaker 1: realize which god they're talking about. It's their god, not
- 11:45Speaker 1: like a Christian god or whatever else. I guess it
- 11:48Speaker 1: doesn't matter. They're about to off you. Think whatever you want.
- 11:52Speaker 1: But the whole story is really convoluted because you do
- 11:55Speaker 1: have a lot of people that you thought were heroes
- 11:59Speaker 1: are now Skrulls. Well, how long have they been a Skrull?
- 12:01Speaker 1: And then there's a point where a ship is discovered
- 12:04Speaker 1: on Earth and you open it up, and it's full
- 12:07Speaker 1: of heroes. Like the Avengers, fantastic. I mean, just names
- 12:11Speaker 1: on names on names. And all of them had basically
- 12:15Speaker 1: been captured in stasis in this ship for sometimes years,
- 12:19Speaker 1: even decades. So it was this huge mic drop. Like, oh,
- 12:24Speaker 1: my God, all these major events and stuff that happened.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Who was this person the whole time? And so you
- 12:30Speaker 1: basically get this whole thing will finally– When it comes
- 12:33Speaker 1: down to the big fight at the end, the kill shot,
- 12:38Speaker 1: the person who wins the day, because now all the
- 12:42Speaker 1: stuff is being shot with news cameras, and the whole
- 12:45Speaker 1: world is watching this conflict happen. The person who wins
- 12:49Speaker 1: the day is Norman fucking Osborn. So now the Green
- 12:53Speaker 1: Goblin is America's number one sweetheart.
- 12:56Speaker 4: Nice.
- 12:56Speaker 1: All the superheroes get kicked to the side, and now
- 12:59Speaker 1: Norman Osborn is in charge of S.H.I.E.L.D. Norman's got all
- 13:02Speaker 1: his bad guy buddies are in charge of stuff now.
- 13:05Speaker 1: And so it kicks off this whole reign of the
- 13:08Speaker 1: bad guys are in charge now. And so that's where
- 13:11Speaker 1: Secret Invasion leaves us. Like, oh, my God. You've got,
- 13:13Speaker 1: you know, people don't trust heroes anymore. They're now trusting
- 13:16Speaker 1: the bad guys because they're the ones that got the
- 13:19Speaker 1: job done. And all of our heroes are like, what
- 13:21Speaker 1: the hell? So, I mean, it was a great story.
- 13:25Speaker 1: And Secret Invasion took literally 95% of that story. And
- 13:32Speaker 1: with the 5% that was left, that's what they made
- 13:34Speaker 1: the TV show out of. Mm-hmm. And it was literally like,
- 13:37Speaker 1: it's all really about Nick Fury freaking out that he
- 13:39Speaker 1: got dusted, and then he gets better, and he came
- 13:43Speaker 1: down from space, and then goes back up to space,
- 13:45Speaker 1: so he's there in time for the Marvels.
- 13:47Speaker 5: See, again, that could have been interesting. At first, I
- 13:51Speaker 5: was like, okay, we're dealing with Nick Fury realizing... hey,
- 13:56Speaker 5: I've been doing this a long time. I'm an old
- 13:58Speaker 5: man now. I probably need to start wrapping this up
- 14:01Speaker 5: as far as my responsibility of I can't keep doing
- 14:05Speaker 5: this forever. I kind of thought that was interesting and
- 14:08Speaker 5: then immediately just got convoluted with everything else. Which leads
- 14:12Speaker 5: me to my next thing, which I think that's part
- 14:14Speaker 5: of the problem. I think this and the next one
- 14:17Speaker 5: are both pulling too far in opposite directions or ridiculous
- 14:20Speaker 5: directions because I also can't I'm several episodes behind on
- 14:25Speaker 5: Loki and I can't make myself care. I'm just like, I,
- 14:29Speaker 5: and it's, it's a shame because I love these performances.
- 14:32Speaker 5: And I'm like, again, you've seen Hiddleston just step up.
- 14:36Speaker 5: And I'm like, from, from Avengers, the first one, I
- 14:39Speaker 5: remember at the time.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Going, yeah, but he's not really a villain.
- 14:43Speaker 5: I mean, he's too damn likable. You can't make him
- 14:46Speaker 5: a villain. And like, even they realize they're like, well,
- 14:49Speaker 5: I mean, he was, but yeah. we really like him too,
- 14:52Speaker 5: so like, he's just full on hero mode now, and
- 14:54Speaker 5: I like seeing that turn, and I like, you know,
- 14:58Speaker 5: you add short round to anything, it's.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Awesome, like, I was like, all these other aspects.
- 15:02Speaker 5: Of it I think are great, and then I get
- 15:04Speaker 5: into the story, and I'm like, oh my god, if
- 15:06Speaker 5: I hear one more person talk about some sort of
- 15:10Speaker 5: weird alternate timeline, or following the threads, or killing off the,
- 15:14Speaker 5: I was just like, it gets so convoluted that I'm like,
- 15:17Speaker 5: can we just streamline this? I'm not saying there aren't
- 15:20Speaker 5: good ideas here. It just seems like it's spinning its
- 15:23Speaker 5: wheels half the episodes. And that's what I thought about
- 15:25Speaker 5: the first season. I was like, it's just dragging its
- 15:28Speaker 5: feet to get to where it wants to get by
- 15:30Speaker 5: the end of the first season. And now it's sort
- 15:33Speaker 5: of feels like it's already doing that season too.
- 15:35Speaker 1: So it is. Loki season two, I still enjoyed as
- 15:39Speaker 1: much as I loved the first one.
- 15:40Speaker 5: Q.E.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Kwan was a tremendous addition to the cast. Love that guy. Basically,
- 15:46Speaker 1: ever since he came back and everything ever were all
- 15:48Speaker 1: at once, he's one of those actors like, you know,
- 15:51Speaker 1: we've talked for years, like, oh, we loved him in
- 15:53Speaker 1: Temple of Doom. We loved him in the Goonies. And
- 15:54Speaker 1: then it's like, oh, whatever happened to that guy? And
- 15:57Speaker 1: then you didn't realize how much you missed his presence
- 16:00Speaker 1: until he's back and stuff. And you're like... he just
- 16:02Speaker 1: makes everything better. He just adds such fun and heart
- 16:06Speaker 1: to his characters.
- 16:08Speaker 5: Even Owen Wilson is doing stuff that I'm like, he's
- 16:11Speaker 5: doing Owen Wilson, but he's delivering things a little different
- 16:14Speaker 5: than I've seen him in in a lot of his movies.
- 16:16Speaker 5: And I'm like, you know, a lot of people are
- 16:18Speaker 5: hitting this with him, but I'm like, he's pretty solid
- 16:21Speaker 5: in this too. I wish there was more that I
- 16:23Speaker 5: could latch onto because I like the performances so much
- 16:27Speaker 5: and visuals. That Keyline Pie room... I could spend the
- 16:32Speaker 5: day in there. Like, it just looks so amazing. So, like,
- 16:36Speaker 5: just the stuff that they're creating is so good on
- 16:39Speaker 5: so many levels, and yet I don't care.
- 16:42Speaker 1: I have a true love for the automat, having never
- 16:46Speaker 1: stepped in foot inside of one. I know.
- 16:47Speaker 5: I want to go find one. There's still some out there.
- 16:49Speaker 5: Japan has a ton of them, from what I've heard.
- 16:51Speaker 1: No kidding. Okay, well, see, they don't exist in the
- 16:53Speaker 1: States anymore.
- 16:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think New York does.
- 16:55Speaker 4: Yeah, the.
- 16:56Speaker 1: I can't remember the name of the company it used
- 16:58Speaker 1: to run. It was... Horn and Hardit.
- 17:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Horn and Hardit.
- 17:02Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Did the automats in Philly, New York. Yeah. And yeah,
- 17:05Speaker 1: I just, you know, the last one went out in
- 17:08Speaker 1: the nineties, but I just.
- 17:09Speaker 5: Started following a girl on, I don't know, because I
- 17:11Speaker 5: think I saw what was one of the first videos
- 17:13Speaker 5: she posted. And I think it's through Facebook or something,
- 17:16Speaker 5: but she's running videos and like, it's, she's like a
- 17:19Speaker 5: teacher that's.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Teaching, I'm assuming English. I don't know.
- 17:22Speaker 5: She just like moved there to Be a teacher.
- 17:24Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 17:25Speaker 5: And it's like her and her boyfriend going around places
- 17:27Speaker 5: like this is how this goes in Japan.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Yeah. And like half of the stuff.
- 17:31Speaker 5: They go to are like automat stuff or like weird
- 17:34Speaker 5: quickie marts that have like this ridiculous amount of food.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Oh, Asian supermarkets are tremendous with the amount of like
- 17:42Speaker 1: fresh food they have or like just top quality food. Quote, unquote,
- 17:46Speaker 1: fast food they have versus what we have in the States.
- 17:48Speaker 5: But the system is so weird. Every time she's like, okay,
- 17:51Speaker 5: and here's how you do it.
- 17:52Speaker 1: And I'm just like, wait, what? Like nothing ever makes sense.
- 17:55Speaker 1: What I love is like. Yeah, it's amazing. When you
- 17:57Speaker 1: notice people getting drinks from like, you know, supermarkets or,
- 18:01Speaker 1: you know, Quick Mart, stuff like that. Like you can
- 18:03Speaker 1: buy a cold drink somewhere and then you could buy
- 18:06Speaker 1: a cup of ice and the cup of ice is sealed.
- 18:08Speaker 1: So you got to peel off the top of the
- 18:10Speaker 1: ice and then you could pour your drink in there.
- 18:12Speaker 1: So it's like, there's no more, you know, dirty ice bins.
- 18:15Speaker 1: There's no more dirty soda fountains with, you know, People
- 18:19Speaker 1: touching all that crap. It's glorious.
- 18:20Speaker 5: I'm telling you, Japan is the wave of the future.
- 18:23Speaker 5: I'm fascinated by them. I can't afford to go there,
- 18:26Speaker 5: but I'm fascinated by them.
- 18:27Speaker 1: They've got it down. It is so cool. If you
- 18:29Speaker 1: have the streaming service Max, formerly known as HBO Max,
- 18:33Speaker 1: there is a documentary that HBO did called The Automats.
- 18:37Speaker 1: A young filmmaker did it, but she apparently... either knows
- 18:40Speaker 1: somebody that knows Mel Brooks or someone's introduced her to Mel.
- 18:44Speaker 1: And so Mel's all over the documentary because he grew
- 18:47Speaker 1: up loving the auto mass early in his career. That's
- 18:49Speaker 1: where he constantly ate. But I mean, you get like,
- 18:51Speaker 1: you know, uh, Ruth Bader Ginsburg is in the documentary.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Colin Powell's in the documentary. There's all these other like
- 18:58Speaker 1: politicians and other comedians who were around at the time
- 19:02Speaker 1: that just, they talk about their love of this place
- 19:04Speaker 1: that once was. And, why it was important. And it's
- 19:08Speaker 1: just such a charming documentary, but it's like, God, it
- 19:11Speaker 1: just makes you love an automatic even more. It's like,
- 19:12Speaker 1: and so just seeing it in Loki with like, yeah,
- 19:15Speaker 1: I almost kind of wondered too, you know, I discussed
- 19:17Speaker 1: this a bit on my show this week. It's like,
- 19:21Speaker 1: I wonder if like that, particular floor of the automat
- 19:24Speaker 1: was all key lime pies like are there different floors
- 19:27Speaker 1: to have different pies.
- 19:28Speaker 5: It's fascinating to look at because i keep going wait
- 19:31Speaker 5: where's the rest of the food and i'm like.
- 19:33Speaker 1: But it looks so amazing yeah it's like is there
- 19:36Speaker 1: a floor that's like just like the baked beans or
- 19:39Speaker 1: you know like do they have the coffee just like
- 19:41Speaker 1: they did back in the autumn yeah so.
- 19:43Speaker 8: Yeah maybe so yeah so loki season two is very
- 19:47Speaker 8: charming I recommend sticking with it, especially when you get, like,
- 19:52Speaker 8: episode three on.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Things really get rolling. And by the time you get
- 19:55Speaker 1: to the end of the show, if you need any explanations,
- 19:57Speaker 1: let me know.
- 19:58Speaker 5: The time travel one was at least interesting. Like, when
- 20:02Speaker 5: they go back looking for him and, like... they spend
- 20:05Speaker 5: the whole episode back in time. And I'm like, that
- 20:07Speaker 5: was kind of cool. And we got to see them
- 20:09Speaker 5: in period costumes and like they're doing different stuff. So
- 20:11Speaker 5: that one was at least interesting.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Also because they.
- 20:14Speaker 5: Weren't having 15 different conversations about the same thing over
- 20:19Speaker 5: and over.
- 20:19Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 20:19Speaker 5: Dying up this timeline and, oh, we've got to kill him.
- 20:21Speaker 5: And we've got, I'm just, it seems like they keep
- 20:24Speaker 5: having the same conversations so many times.
- 20:27Speaker 1: So I'm just, yeah, I don't know.
- 20:28Speaker 5: But that's going to be a bigger question I have
- 20:31Speaker 5: moving forward.
- 20:31Speaker 1: So.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:33Speaker 1: For me, the last two episodes of the season I
- 20:34Speaker 1: think were phenomenal.
- 20:37Speaker 5: So instead, I didn't watch more new episodes of Loki,
- 20:39Speaker 5: but I will say what I did watch was they
- 20:42Speaker 5: just somewhat recently, they didn't have them. I'm assuming this
- 20:46Speaker 5: is a weird licensing thing with Sony, but they just
- 20:48Speaker 5: put the second.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Spider-Man movie streaming.
- 20:50Speaker 9: Oh, yeah.
- 20:51Speaker 1: And I rewatched that because I don't think I'd seen
- 20:53Speaker 1: it since the theater. And I'm like.
- 20:56Speaker 5: Again, I have my issues with some of the stuff
- 20:58Speaker 5: they do, but overall, you've got to love those movies.
- 21:01Speaker 5: In general, all three of them are so much fun.
- 21:04Speaker 5: But that's what works.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Again, I think the bigger story arc.
- 21:08Speaker 5: Of it, not much really happens, and it seems like
- 21:11Speaker 5: some weird choices are made there. But the character work
- 21:14Speaker 5: is so much fun. We spend a good amount of time...
- 21:18Speaker 5: I was watching it this time going... it's like 20
- 21:20Speaker 5: minutes in before we have our fake monster attack thing.
- 21:23Speaker 5: Like we spent like other than the pre-credits thing, like
- 21:26Speaker 5: we spend like 20 minutes of I'm getting ready to
- 21:29Speaker 5: go on a trip. I got to get this stuff together.
- 21:31Speaker 5: Here we are with the kids hanging out, doing all
- 21:33Speaker 5: this goofy stuff, moving on, you know, going to different locations.
- 21:36Speaker 5: I'm like, there's a lot of character building time here
- 21:39Speaker 5: on just the regular old people. I mean, he's not
- 21:42Speaker 5: even in the spider suit most of this movie, you know,
- 21:44Speaker 5: it's like, it's so not, a traditional superhero story from
- 21:48Speaker 5: that angle in a good way.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Right.
- 21:50Speaker 5: Yeah. And like that, that's what I kind of noticed
- 21:52Speaker 5: is how much we get, you know, character building, especially
- 21:56Speaker 5: something like that, where it's all about like the, the
- 21:58Speaker 5: relationship and like the MJ thing. And I'm like, again,
- 22:01Speaker 5: it's two movies in before these two get together.
- 22:04Speaker 1: You know, I'm like, that's, A very different pace.
- 22:07Speaker 5: Than we get with a lot of what's been going on,
- 22:09Speaker 5: especially lately with Marvel. So, again, I think those three
- 22:13Speaker 5: are sort of outliers, maybe because Sony's involved.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I don't know. But for good and bad, really. I think, too,
- 22:20Speaker 1: it all depends on the character. Spider-Man has got a
- 22:24Speaker 1: lot of emotional resonance with people, familiarity. whatever the case
- 22:29Speaker 1: may be. So, yeah, that character's going to, you know,
- 22:31Speaker 1: there's just some that are going to hit better than others,
- 22:34Speaker 1: depending on how they're used, what they're doing with them,
- 22:36Speaker 1: whatever the case may be. I'm just really, I'm just
- 22:41Speaker 1: really curious and tentative to see what Marvel does going forward,
- 22:44Speaker 1: because each year, the comic books do this too, but
- 22:50Speaker 1: each year, the movie, the filmmakers and Kevin Feige and
- 22:52Speaker 1: all of a sudden, they all get together for like
- 22:54Speaker 1: a yearly retreat, talking about what we're going to do next,
- 22:56Speaker 1: what's coming up, addressing any problems things like that and
- 23:00Speaker 1: so they recently had one of those retreats and of
- 23:02Speaker 1: course the recent thing was the jonathan major situation oh yeah.
- 23:07Speaker 5: Which again i was kind of surprised to see how
- 23:09Speaker 5: much she's in loki season two i was like well
- 23:11Speaker 5: i guess they're sticking with this one well the interesting
- 23:14Speaker 5: thing is that loki season two a lot of that
- 23:16Speaker 5: was shot before a lot of that stuff happened and
- 23:19Speaker 5: i'm curious how much of it was shot before quantum
- 23:22Speaker 5: mania yeah Because that's sort of when it broke, was
- 23:25Speaker 5: right when that came out.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Exactly, yeah. So right around that same time. Yeah, and
- 23:29Speaker 1: so I'm just, you know, especially too, like, there's a
- 23:32Speaker 1: couple episodes towards the end of the season where you're
- 23:35Speaker 1: having a conversation with Loki and he remains once again. Yeah.
- 23:39Speaker 1: And it's the same set, everything like that. So I'm wondering,
- 23:42Speaker 1: you know... They just shot all of that. Well, it
- 23:45Speaker 1: also seems that in the film, and the showrunners kind
- 23:48Speaker 1: of also... basically discussed like we've had a plan in
- 23:51Speaker 1: place ever since so I'm almost certain that there was
- 23:56Speaker 1: some shooting done when they were still doing season one
- 23:59Speaker 1: that has been used for season two that you know
- 24:03Speaker 1: because this does have a definitive end to things now
- 24:06Speaker 1: granted it does kind of give a different status for
- 24:10Speaker 1: Loki I don't want to give too much away so
- 24:11Speaker 1: if you haven't watched it yet and anyone else who
- 24:12Speaker 1: hasn't finished the season but it does have a different
- 24:16Speaker 1: status for Loki and a bit of an upgrade yeah
- 24:21Speaker 1: But the story of the TVA and all that stuff
- 24:24Speaker 1: may be seen elsewhere, but I think we are done
- 24:28Speaker 1: with the Loki TV show from here. That being said, though,
- 24:33Speaker 1: I think Loki still has a major... Tom Hiddleston may
- 24:36Speaker 1: be done with the full-time thing, but I think we've
- 24:39Speaker 1: got two Avengers movies coming up in the near future.
- 24:42Speaker 1: One of those in particular he may be very heavily
- 24:45Speaker 1: involved with.
- 24:46Speaker 5: With any of these people. Even when they're done, they're
- 24:48Speaker 5: never Yeah. I mean, how many times did I hear
- 24:51Speaker 5: Jackman say that? And yet he's back in this next
- 24:55Speaker 5: movie coming out beginning of next year.
- 24:57Speaker 1: And then they're already throwing him out, coming back.
- 24:59Speaker 5: Again and other things. I'm just like, he's never done.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Nobody's ever really done. Yeah. Of course, we know he's
- 25:05Speaker 1: involved in Deadpool 3. Yeah. And there's heavy rumors involved
- 25:09Speaker 1: that basically Hugh Jackman and Tobey Maguire are going to
- 25:11Speaker 1: have a huge major role in Secret Wars.
- 25:13Speaker 9: Yep.
- 25:13Speaker 5: So I was like, yeah, you're never really done. They'll
- 25:16Speaker 5: throw money at you and you'll be like, you know what?
- 25:18Speaker 5: It is a good idea if I play that guy again.
- 25:20Speaker 1: You're right. And it just all depends on what the
- 25:23Speaker 1: idea is. But anyway, so the Jonathan Majors problem has
- 25:27Speaker 1: been addressed with Marvel, and the three options that came up,
- 25:32Speaker 1: obviously the easiest one would be recasting. And this is
- 25:36Speaker 1: all tentative, like how the court proceedings turn out. If
- 25:39Speaker 1: he's found innocent, no problems, then cool. We keep proceeding
- 25:43Speaker 1: as is. But if we've got to do something different,
- 25:45Speaker 1: then this isn't the first time we've recast a major
- 25:49Speaker 1: actor within a hero or villain role. We can do
- 25:52Speaker 1: it again. The other one would basically be to bring
- 25:55Speaker 1: up Doctor Doom a little faster. Make him the big
- 25:58Speaker 1: bad and move Kang to the side. Anyway, we're done
- 26:00Speaker 1: with you, Kang. Bye. Marvel fans, myself included, want Doom.
- 26:04Speaker 1: We want him bad. But I want a good Doom.
- 26:06Speaker 1: I don't want the dude from Nip Tuck screwing up
- 26:10Speaker 1: in two Fantastic Four movies in a row. And the
- 26:14Speaker 1: third and final one, which I think is the most
- 26:17Speaker 1: desperate option, is to get the band back together. To
- 26:20Speaker 1: literally bring Steve Rogers out of retirement and revitalize him
- 26:25Speaker 1: where he's no longer a 90-year-old crusty man and bring
- 26:28Speaker 1: Natasha and Tony back from the dead.
- 26:29Speaker 5: No. Which, again, I just saw a post of Iron
- 26:32Speaker 5: Man 4 announcement with him involved.
- 26:35Speaker 1: I don't know if we're talking flashback. I don't know
- 26:37Speaker 1: if it's AI.
- 26:38Speaker 5: I don't know what road we're going down.
- 26:40Speaker 1: I was just like, whatever. I'm staying out of it.
- 26:42Speaker 5: But like I said, you're never really done. Tony will
- 26:45Speaker 5: be back in some way, shape, or form.
- 26:46Speaker 1: We all know that. Well, and as it goes for
- 26:49Speaker 1: that particular rumor, I will believe it when I see it.
- 26:52Speaker 5: That one I'm way more likely. The one that I
- 26:54Speaker 5: also saw on that list was Scarlet, and.
- 26:57Speaker 1: I think she's done. Oh, yeah, she's way done. Not
- 26:59Speaker 1: only because the character's done, but I think she's done.
- 27:02Speaker 1: She's like, you know what, Disney? I've had about enough
- 27:04Speaker 1: of you. Oh, yeah. After that last round, I believe
- 27:08Speaker 1: she's done. Yeah, there were lawsuits involved, and she ended
- 27:11Speaker 1: up winning, so it's like, yeah, she's done. Yeah. Well,
- 27:15Speaker 1: it's strange how the internet and the rumor mills and
- 27:17Speaker 1: all that kind of jazz works. Because I had some
- 27:19Speaker 1: dude yesterday while I was working trying to tell me
- 27:22Speaker 1: that they were going to go ahead with a Black
- 27:23Speaker 1: Adam 2 and The Rock's coming back. I'm like, where
- 27:26Speaker 1: did you hear this? Because that is not only false
- 27:30Speaker 1: in every shape of the word, but it's like Warner Brothers,
- 27:34Speaker 1: an executive is going to come to your house and
- 27:36Speaker 1: smack you across the face for thinking that. I was like, no,
- 27:40Speaker 1: the Rock has burnt every single bridge he could with
- 27:44Speaker 1: Warner Brothers after his stunt with Black Adam. Which is
- 27:47Speaker 1: basically sticking in Henry Cavill, you know, as a surprise.
- 27:51Speaker 1: But the Warner Brothers had other things going on, like
- 27:54Speaker 1: firing everybody that was gone with the old guard.
- 27:56Speaker 5: Like completely wrapping up this whole thing and starting anew, basically.
- 28:00Speaker 1: And having a new showrunner come in to bring in
- 28:04Speaker 1: a new Superman that wasn't Henry Cavill. So it's like,
- 28:07Speaker 1: screw you, Dwayne. Oh, and your movie bombed hard, by
- 28:12Speaker 1: the way, anyway.
- 28:13Speaker 5: Nobody's cared about any of these movies for a while.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Suicide squads aside. Yeah. So, yeah. As the superhero movie
- 28:23Speaker 1: rumor mill goes, unless I see a trailer, unless I
- 28:26Speaker 1: see a poster, I don't believe you.
- 28:30Speaker 5: But I never think anybody's really out.
- 28:32Speaker 4: Right.
- 28:32Speaker 5: Exactly.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Other than Scarlett. Yeah.
- 28:34Speaker 5: Eventually if enough time goes by and they throw enough
- 28:36Speaker 5: money at her, she might come back. Yeah. But I
- 28:39Speaker 5: think now for principal purposes, she has to be done
- 28:42Speaker 5: for quite a while. You give it 10, 15 years.
- 28:45Speaker 5: She might be like, eh, all right, whatever. Cameos are fine.
- 28:48Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly.
- 28:49Speaker 1: We're, we're, we're definitely done with that.
- 28:52Speaker 5: All right. Anything else before we get rolling on this
- 28:57Speaker 5: special movie?
- 28:58Speaker 1: Nothing much superhero wise. Um, Of course, during spooky season,
- 29:01Speaker 1: I watched a lot of stuff, things I caught up on.
- 29:05Speaker 1: But more importantly, since you guys have discussed this on
- 29:08Speaker 1: the Horror Club before, have you seen the new Hell
- 29:11Speaker 1: House LLC movie? Because there's a new one, and it's
- 29:15Speaker 1: exclusive to Shudder.
- 29:16Speaker 5: Not that I'm aware of.
- 29:18Speaker 1: It's good. Of course, this is the fourth one now,
- 29:23Speaker 1: I believe, in the series. I can't keep track on it.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Like I said, you guys were initially the ones who
- 29:30Speaker 1: attuned me into the franchise anyway. But yeah, it's a
- 29:37Speaker 1: bit of a prequel. Kind of a bit of a prequel,
- 29:41Speaker 1: but also it's an adjacent sort of thing. There's some
- 29:46Speaker 1: other stuff in the Hell House world that this movie...
- 29:50Speaker 1: is affected by. And once you get to the end
- 29:52Speaker 1: of the movie, all the connections are made and you're like, Oh,
- 29:55Speaker 1: that's cool. Uh, and it's kind of also one of
- 29:58Speaker 1: those things too, where, uh, stick through the credits. Cause
- 30:01Speaker 1: there's basically two, there's like one mid credits, little singer scene.
- 30:04Speaker 1: And then you got to wait all the way to
- 30:06Speaker 1: the end of the credits. And there's a fantastic scene
- 30:08Speaker 1: at the end. So yeah, it's just like, I'm, I'm
- 30:11Speaker 1: in on the hell house movies. Those are fun. All right.
- 30:14Speaker 5: One more for the list that who knows when we'll
- 30:16Speaker 5: get around to. Yeah. All right, if we are ready.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Let's do this. Let's get into it. Get more out
- 30:24Speaker 1: of life.
- 30:25Speaker 7: Go out to a movie.
- 30:28Speaker 5: Captain Rambo?
- 30:30Speaker 1: What the hell are you doing? Entering the jump point perimeter.
- 30:44Speaker 5: I'm going to get you some readings, Fury. Hello?
- 30:47Speaker 1: Hello?
- 30:47Speaker 5: Oh, my God, oh, my God, oh, my God, oh,
- 30:54Speaker 5: my God!
- 30:55Speaker 1: Captain Rambo?
- 30:56Speaker 10: What is that?
- 30:59Speaker 1: It's me!
- 31:02Speaker 6: Hi!
- 31:03Speaker 5: Is this an Avengers test?
- 31:07Speaker 1: Where's Captain Rambo?
- 31:09Speaker 4: Oh!
- 31:28Speaker 5: Hi.
- 31:29Speaker 7: We're looking for Kamala Khan.
- 31:32Speaker 10: Tyrion!
- 31:34Speaker 5: Okay, so our powers are entangled.
- 31:37Speaker 10: I can manipulate my energy.
- 31:39Speaker 5: And you, I can.
- 31:40Speaker 4: Totally show you. No!
- 31:44Speaker 9: Not again!
- 31:45Speaker 4: Hi.
- 31:46Speaker 7: Where's our doctor?
- 31:48Speaker 1: Wherever you are.
- 31:51Speaker 4: No!
- 31:51Speaker 5: No!
- 32:19Speaker 1: We're a team. Oh, no, no, no, no. We're not
- 32:21Speaker 1: a team. We're not.
- 32:27Speaker 4: A team.
- 32:28Speaker 10: Intergalactic planetary, planetary, intergalactic. Intergalactic planetary, planetary, intergalactic. Intergalactic planetary, planetary, intergalactic.
- 32:40Speaker 10: Intergalactic planetary, planetary, intergalactic.
- 32:51Speaker 5: This episode's out on the town feature.
- 32:54Speaker 1: We left the house, went out into the world. I
- 32:57Speaker 1: sat in my broken chair. Why do I get the
- 32:59Speaker 1: broken chair?
- 33:01Speaker 5: I went, I went way early, got my seat, and
- 33:04Speaker 5: I sat down. This other person's got their seat up.
- 33:07Speaker 5: These people down here. Mine will recline back in the back,
- 33:10Speaker 5: but the foot won't come up. And really, the way
- 33:14Speaker 5: it's angled, it's really kind of uncomfortable if you can't
- 33:17Speaker 5: do both. So I just put it almost as normal
- 33:21Speaker 5: a chair as I could. And I'm like, you know,
- 33:24Speaker 5: I just don't even feel like shifting around. I don't
- 33:27Speaker 5: feel like fighting with it.
- 33:28Speaker 1: I'm just trying to watch this movie.
- 33:29Speaker 5: So this movie in question is The Marvels. The year
- 33:35Speaker 5: is 2023. The director is Nia DaCosta. And the plot,
- 33:39Speaker 5: according to IMDb... Carol Danvers gets her powers entangled with
- 33:43Speaker 5: those of Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau, forcing them to
- 33:47Speaker 5: work together to save the universe. Spoiler alert, we're going
- 33:51Speaker 5: to run the hell out of this. And I don't
- 33:55Speaker 5: know how many spoilers there really are.
- 33:57Speaker 1: So go see it. It's Marvel.
- 33:59Speaker 5: Have they done well? I haven't really heard anything.
- 34:02Speaker 1: I think the box office initially was a little low,
- 34:05Speaker 1: but Marvel's been kind of doing some pushes, especially the
- 34:08Speaker 1: mid-credits scene that we get. was already leaked, quote-unquote leaked,
- 34:14Speaker 1: on YouTube. It's like, let's see, it's of perfect cinematic quality,
- 34:18Speaker 1: it's linked, and there's a frickin' Marvel stamp on it.
- 34:20Speaker 1: They linked this on purpose. Oops, we leaked this. Yeah,
- 34:23Speaker 1: I think they want to get some more butts in seats,
- 34:24Speaker 1: because we, they go there.
- 34:27Speaker 3: They did the thing that they've been threatening to do for, well,
- 34:32Speaker 3: since this series started at least, but definitely in recent years,
- 34:36Speaker 3: and Yeah.
- 34:37Speaker 5: We already kind of teased it with our Doctor Strange,
- 34:40Speaker 5: so we knew it was going there.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, this one was full on going there. But
- 34:45Speaker 1: I enjoyed the film overall. It was a lot of fun.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Of course, my wife, you know, basically this is a
- 34:50Speaker 1: female superhero. So she's all in on this stuff. And
- 34:54Speaker 1: then this is a female, you know, almost entirely female film.
- 34:59Speaker 1: You got basically just, you know, a couple of male
- 35:01Speaker 1: actors in here. But most, you know, almost entirely female
- 35:03Speaker 1: crew film, all that sort of thing like that. Female villains.
- 35:06Speaker 5: Yes.
- 35:07Speaker 1: And then a shitload of cats. So this is just
- 35:11Speaker 1: the perfect female superhero movie that does have some male
- 35:15Speaker 1: fans as well.
- 35:16Speaker 5: Before I get going, I have to get out. Again,
- 35:20Speaker 5: visual gags work best on an audio show.
- 35:22Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 35:23Speaker 1: I got my Kamala action figure.
- 35:26Speaker 5: I ran across this lately. She was just hanging out
- 35:28Speaker 5: of a package. I was like, oh, well, you need
- 35:30Speaker 5: to come home with me, obviously.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Lovely.
- 35:32Speaker 5: Because that's my go-to. That's of the many things I
- 35:35Speaker 5: had issues with Marvel-wise over the last year, two years,
- 35:39Speaker 5: however long.
- 35:40Speaker 1: I love that show.
- 35:41Speaker 5: Ms.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Marvel was awesome, and she was.
- 35:43Speaker 5: The main reason. And then as we got into this,
- 35:47Speaker 5: I mean, because again, we threw this out a while ago,
- 35:49Speaker 5: but I was so not, overly thrilled because i wasn't
- 35:52Speaker 5: overly thrilled with captain marvel as a film and so
- 35:56Speaker 5: like going into this i was like oh man but
- 35:58Speaker 5: kamala's gonna be there so i was like that was
- 36:00Speaker 5: the one thing and i think monica's pretty fun too
- 36:03Speaker 5: so like knowing those two were gonna be there sort
- 36:06Speaker 5: of upped my anticipation a little bit that i was
- 36:09Speaker 5: like at least i want to see what they do
- 36:11Speaker 5: with her and how they work her in and then
- 36:13Speaker 5: we've got a lot of weird new powers and things
- 36:16Speaker 5: with monica so Throwing that in the mix should be fun.
- 36:19Speaker 5: So yeah, I was way more invested in those two
- 36:22Speaker 5: versus the quote unquote star of the movie.
- 36:24Speaker 1: Well, Monica is developing her powers more. She's learning how
- 36:27Speaker 1: to use them more. As someone who didn't have powers.
- 36:30Speaker 1: So it is interesting that just in the span of
- 36:33Speaker 1: from WandaVision to now, she's like, oh yeah, by the way,
- 36:35Speaker 1: I'm a superhero, which she essentially says to Carol. We
- 36:38Speaker 1: saw her in another thing too briefly.
- 36:41Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 36:42Speaker 1: She showed up in, I can't remember.
- 36:44Speaker 5: It's so hard to keep track of where. But yeah,
- 36:46Speaker 5: she pops up in another one of the series.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Yeah, and where we saw her the second time, that's
- 36:50Speaker 1: when we saw more of her powers again. So she's
- 36:52Speaker 1: starting to use them a little bit more. So the
- 36:54Speaker 1: more and more we see her, the more she's... That's
- 36:56Speaker 1: the thing is that, of course, she hasn't taken her
- 36:58Speaker 1: name yet, which is... She is Photon.
- 37:01Speaker 5: That's one of the best running gags of this movie,
- 37:03Speaker 5: I have to say.
- 37:04Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right. There's a lot of other issues, but like.
- 37:08Speaker 5: Again, the interaction with them, that's sort of why I
- 37:11Speaker 5: was throwing out the Spider-Man. When I was like, the
- 37:13Speaker 5: time spent with them as characters is what makes this
- 37:16Speaker 5: so much fun. And the running gag of that, of Ms.
- 37:20Speaker 5: Marvel being a big dork and being a super fangirl
- 37:24Speaker 5: is such an endearing thing for her. And then her
- 37:28Speaker 5: trying to make the team even more of a team
- 37:30Speaker 5: and giving her a name and the running gag of
- 37:33Speaker 5: trying to come up.
- 37:34Speaker 1: With a new name. I'm still... Professor Marvel, that's the
- 37:38Speaker 1: way to go. What about this photon on you? Well,
- 37:41Speaker 1: and the funny thing, too, is she even dropped Spectrum,
- 37:42Speaker 1: and Spectrum was a name that Monica used. Monica has used, like,
- 37:46Speaker 1: three different names in her superhero career in the comics.
- 37:50Speaker 1: At one point, she was Captain Marvel. She used the name.
- 37:53Speaker 10: See, that's the thing.
- 37:53Speaker 1: I knew at one point they'd switched out, and so, yeah. Well,
- 37:56Speaker 1: because that's the thing. Carol Danvers did not take the
- 37:59Speaker 1: name of Captain Marvel until about maybe 20 years ago.
- 38:03Speaker 1: So the original Mar-Vell died in the early 80s, and
- 38:08Speaker 1: then basically Monica Rambeau took the mantle when she was introduced.
- 38:13Speaker 1: And so we had, oh, we have a new Captain Marvel,
- 38:14Speaker 1: and there's a chick. And then basically Carol was running
- 38:19Speaker 1: around as Ms. Marvel for a while, then she was
- 38:21Speaker 1: running around as Binary, which is cool they dropped that
- 38:23Speaker 1: in there a little bit. And binary basically was her
- 38:26Speaker 1: powers had flamed out to the point. She basically looked
- 38:29Speaker 1: like a walking star. So it's like, she didn't look
- 38:32Speaker 1: human anymore. She looked like she was just constantly on
- 38:34Speaker 1: flame with cosmic energy. Doesn't seem comfortable at all. Well,
- 38:37Speaker 1: it was basically her powers were acting up. And so
- 38:39Speaker 1: it was, it was a short period of time, but
- 38:41Speaker 1: she was run around, named herself binary. Um, And then
- 38:46Speaker 1: eventually when Kelly Sue DeConnick took over the book, that's
- 38:51Speaker 1: when we went full on Captain Marvel. And then the
- 38:53Speaker 1: suit came up, the suit that we see in the movies.
- 38:56Speaker 1: And Goose was introduced and all that kind of good stuff.
- 38:59Speaker 1: So the Captain Marvel we know essentially started with the
- 39:02Speaker 1: Kelly Sue DeConnick run.
- 39:04Speaker 5: Speaking of the Captain Marvel we know and the suit,
- 39:07Speaker 5: I like that they totally ditched the dumb helmet. Because
- 39:11Speaker 5: that was one of my things last movie. I was like,
- 39:13Speaker 5: this helmet looks terrible.
- 39:15Speaker 1: And then they got rid of her quirky, fun haircut that.
- 39:18Speaker 5: She got midway into the run. Now it's just like,
- 39:20Speaker 5: we know what Brie Larson looks like. Just make her
- 39:22Speaker 5: look like her. We just give her the rest of
- 39:25Speaker 5: the suit. We like the suit. Helmet was dumb. And just, yeah,
- 39:28Speaker 5: go with that. So I like that she's just herself
- 39:30Speaker 5: this whole movie. I'm like, I'm fine with that. That's
- 39:32Speaker 5: all we wanted.
- 39:33Speaker 1: Just don't make her wear a dumb helmet. We did
- 39:35Speaker 1: see the helmet briefly in the flashback scene. In the flashback.
- 39:38Speaker 1: I could have used a bit more of that flashback
- 39:40Speaker 1: scene because for people that are fans of the comics
- 39:43Speaker 1: and whatnot, finally getting to see the Supreme Intelligence in
- 39:47Speaker 1: his true form was pretty cool. Yeah. But it was
- 39:49Speaker 1: very brief. Very brief. Yeah, and it's like, okay, she
- 39:52Speaker 1: walked up and basically blew him out of the sky,
- 39:54Speaker 1: and then there you go. But, yeah, I mean, basically, like,
- 39:56Speaker 1: that's how he looks. He is an AI, but the
- 39:59Speaker 1: appearance is this giant green head with tentacles and wires
- 40:02Speaker 1: and shit coming out of him and whatnot. But they
- 40:04Speaker 1: have him in a jar. But, yeah, but he communicates,
- 40:09Speaker 1: you know, like, basically... Kind of like they did in
- 40:11Speaker 1: the first movie where it's on a plane and he's
- 40:13Speaker 1: using a different persona. Yeah. But yeah, so very rarely
- 40:17Speaker 1: does somebody actually address the Supreme Intelligence in his jarred
- 40:22Speaker 1: head form. Yeah, a special person has to see him
- 40:25Speaker 1: in that form. So it was kind of cool to
- 40:27Speaker 1: see that little throwback, but for some people that was
- 40:30Speaker 1: such a big moment that affected her relationship with the
- 40:35Speaker 1: Kree and giving her this nickname of the Annihilator. That
- 40:38Speaker 1: was like five minutes, and it was way late in
- 40:41Speaker 1: the movie, too. It's like, I could have used that
- 40:42Speaker 1: a little earlier. Do we want.
- 40:44Speaker 5: Because, again, that's where I'm... It's one of my bigger things.
- 40:47Speaker 5: Do we want to go ahead and jump to that?
- 40:49Speaker 6: Let's jump, yeah.
- 40:50Speaker 5: Put a pause on the characters, because, yeah, I'll come
- 40:53Speaker 5: back to them. But that's, I think, by the time
- 40:56Speaker 5: I got.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Because I enjoyed it.
- 40:58Speaker 5: Again, I liked it, but most of the things I
- 41:01Speaker 5: liked about it was, again, the character interaction. Yeah. adding
- 41:05Speaker 5: these two new characters, and they sort of lighten up,
- 41:08Speaker 5: because that's the issue with her in Captain Marvel, is
- 41:11Speaker 5: she's just so deadpan. Like, there's nothing fun to her. Like, again,
- 41:16Speaker 5: it's like, you know, this is a superhero movie. We're
- 41:18Speaker 5: supposed to be here having fun, and, like, she's just... Again,
- 41:21Speaker 5: she's a badass, and that was my issue, too. Like,
- 41:23Speaker 5: she also, by the time you get to the Avengers movies, like,
- 41:26Speaker 5: she has Superman syndrome of, like, yay, she can do everything.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Who cares?
- 41:30Speaker 5: Like, she's just not an interesting.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Superhero because she's too powerful. Yeah.
- 41:35Speaker 5: Whereas we get these other two that neither of them
- 41:37Speaker 5: really fully understand how to use their power, so they're
- 41:40Speaker 5: way more interesting. So I could watch these two figuring
- 41:43Speaker 5: out how to use their powers over watching her be
- 41:45Speaker 5: a superhero and do whatever she wants. So again, these
- 41:48Speaker 5: other two are way more interesting to me and a
- 41:54Speaker 5: needed addition to this plot line.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Sure, yeah.
- 41:57Speaker 5: But as we get to the plot line, I'm also.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Like, do we really... I don't know.
- 42:03Speaker 5: This is my question is like, is this movie worthy
- 42:07Speaker 5: as we get into this on paper, it should be
- 42:09Speaker 5: on paper. It definitely like, especially once you get to
- 42:12Speaker 5: the plot, it's like we are destroying worlds.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Like this should be Avengers level events.
- 42:19Speaker 5: But like by the end, I was like, it felt slight.
- 42:23Speaker 5: And I'm like, I don't know what definitely. And here's
- 42:25Speaker 5: my probably biggest complaint is this villain comes out of nowhere.
- 42:30Speaker 5: And I'm like, who is this was same issue I
- 42:32Speaker 5: had with that last Thor movie. I was like, wait,
- 42:35Speaker 5: who's this guy? This guy that you built up is
- 42:37Speaker 5: the super amazing bad guy. And we had no time
- 42:40Speaker 5: with him and we barely got to know who he was.
- 42:41Speaker 5: And then you killed him off. I'm like, here we
- 42:43Speaker 5: are again.
- 42:44Speaker 1: I was like, this needed a little more time.
- 42:47Speaker 5: To definitely to get into that backstory of why she's
- 42:49Speaker 5: the annihilator, where this woman comes from, that becomes the
- 42:53Speaker 5: big villain of the whole movie. But like, we're just
- 42:56Speaker 5: thrown in and there she is. And like, she's already
- 42:58Speaker 5: the villain.
- 42:58Speaker 1: I'm like, what? But who is she?
- 43:00Speaker 5: Like, I had checked beforehand. I'm like, okay, she is
- 43:02Speaker 5: from the comics. It was a character that existed beforehand.
- 43:06Speaker 1: But I was like, you still.
- 43:08Speaker 5: Have to apply it to this movie. This movie needs
- 43:11Speaker 5: to be able to stand on its own. And as
- 43:13Speaker 5: this movie, we don't know.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Who the hell she is.
- 43:16Speaker 5: She comes out of nowhere. By the end, we at
- 43:19Speaker 5: least understand why she's doing what she's doing. And there
- 43:22Speaker 5: is reason to it. But I'm like, you're a good
- 43:25Speaker 5: portion of the way into the movie before you figure
- 43:27Speaker 5: out what's going on.
- 43:28Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Yeah. There's definitely some writing flaw in there for sure.
- 43:33Speaker 1: And that was kind of the thing too. I was like,
- 43:36Speaker 1: why didn't they try to do more to connect her
- 43:40Speaker 1: to what was going on?
- 43:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Because that's the problem with Supreme or is it basically she,
- 43:44Speaker 1: you know, Obviously, she was trying to avenge her home world,
- 43:48Speaker 1: which Carol essentially destroyed.
- 43:50Speaker 5: Which all made sense by the end. Again, this could
- 43:53Speaker 5: have been a really good... That's our thing going into
- 43:56Speaker 5: some big villain like Thanos. By the end, you're like, well,
- 43:59Speaker 5: I mean, he's got a point. There's times when you
- 44:02Speaker 5: start going like, I see where he's coming from. Granted,
- 44:04Speaker 5: he had a ridiculous, crazy plan. But still, you start
- 44:07Speaker 5: to almost see him as.
- 44:08Speaker 1: A real character.
- 44:09Speaker 5: This girl had enough that we definitely could have sided with.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Her and be like, well... She's got a point.
- 44:14Speaker 5: And by the end, we kind of have that moment
- 44:16Speaker 5: where Monica's like, yeah, maybe you should go fix her plan.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Well, that's the thing is that we, I think we
- 44:21Speaker 1: needed as an audience, a lot more emotional resonance of
- 44:25Speaker 1: what Suprema was feeling, what Carol did, and really nailing
- 44:30Speaker 1: it home that this perfect superhero that we thought was
- 44:33Speaker 1: unstoppable and powerful, yada, yada. Yeah. Her hubris got in
- 44:38Speaker 1: the way and she basically said, Killed her second home world.
- 44:43Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:43Speaker 1: Because she thought she was doing the right thing. And,
- 44:46Speaker 1: in fact, she was basically, you know, set him up
- 44:49Speaker 1: for a death sentence. You know, unless she did something
- 44:52Speaker 1: about it to fix it.
- 44:53Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 44:54Speaker 5: Which, I mean, again, there's just so much going on
- 44:56Speaker 5: there that would have been good had we known that. But, like,
- 45:00Speaker 5: they just sort of gloss over it. Yeah.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Like, I would have been fine if, you know, they had...
- 45:06Speaker 1: Because let's think, they did a flashback, so Supremor was
- 45:10Speaker 1: a part of the... the elite group that Carol was
- 45:15Speaker 1: part of when she was on Hala. Yeah. But it's like,
- 45:17Speaker 1: you know, we didn't kill off Jude Law entirely. She
- 45:20Speaker 1: just beat him up. It's like, we could have brought
- 45:22Speaker 1: him back. We could have, or he, you know.
- 45:24Speaker 5: We at least would have known, well, again, if you
- 45:26Speaker 5: paid attention to the last movie, you'd be like, oh,
- 45:28Speaker 5: that guy. I remember that guy.
- 45:29Speaker 1: Yeah, or Supremor was a loyalist to him or something.
- 45:32Speaker 1: But it's just kind of like, you're right. We just
- 45:34Speaker 1: bring in this villain. And another thing, too, that a
- 45:36Speaker 1: buddy of mine had a question. He's like, well, hang on.
- 45:38Speaker 1: She's got that hammer on. that Ronan the Accuser had,
- 45:41Speaker 1: because now she's an accuser. But that purple light, that
- 45:46Speaker 1: was when he put the Power Stone in his hammer
- 45:51Speaker 1: to make it even more powerful. So does she have
- 45:54Speaker 1: a new... Is there a new Power Stone? It draws
- 45:57Speaker 1: a lot of confusion.
- 45:59Speaker 5: Again, because she's just introduced with that hammer, and then
- 46:02Speaker 5: even Carol's like, referencing it like it's a big deal.
- 46:05Speaker 5: I was like, shouldn't we know what it is and
- 46:07Speaker 5: why it's a big deal? Like that should have already
- 46:09Speaker 5: been built into the first part of this movie, but
- 46:12Speaker 5: we just kind of skip over all of that. And
- 46:14Speaker 5: I'm like, I don't know. That's, that's several of my
- 46:18Speaker 5: questions here is like, why does it feel like the
- 46:21Speaker 5: story isn't big enough really by.
- 46:23Speaker 1: The end of it? Yeah.
- 46:25Speaker 5: And then my main question, and this is one I've
- 46:27Speaker 5: gotten every, I remember the, Avengers the second, the robot one.
- 46:34Speaker 1: Oh, Age of Ultron. Age of Ultron. Yeah.
- 46:36Speaker 5: I remember having this question then because I guess it
- 46:39Speaker 5: was just sort of hitting that that was becoming an
- 46:42Speaker 5: option when they started doing series.
- 46:44Speaker 1: So at that point it was like Daredevil. Yeah.
- 46:46Speaker 5: But like when we just had that as an option,
- 46:48Speaker 5: I'm like, okay, so has Marvel or Disney or Feige
- 46:53Speaker 5: or the powers that be that run all of this,
- 46:55Speaker 5: have they sort of lost control? Scope of like what
- 46:59Speaker 5: works best for what cuz there's times when I'm like,
- 47:01Speaker 5: why is this a movie in this a series? Yeah,
- 47:04Speaker 5: and like this is one of those I'm like if
- 47:05Speaker 5: we spent like a whole episode sort of building up
- 47:08Speaker 5: the backstory of her destroying this homeworld and introducing this
- 47:11Speaker 5: villain and like if this was a Six-part, you know,
- 47:14Speaker 5: it doesn't need to be huge.
- 47:15Speaker 1: But like if it was a.
- 47:16Speaker 5: Six-part episodes series feel like we could have like delivered
- 47:21Speaker 5: something bigger as far and then by the end maybe
- 47:24Speaker 5: it would have felt like this is a world ending
- 47:26Speaker 5: event that we need these three Avengers to come together
- 47:28Speaker 5: and I don't know sort of rushing it like it
- 47:31Speaker 5: does I'm like I don't I don't know.
- 47:34Speaker 1: I think the two main problems this movie ran into
- 47:37Speaker 1: and like again saying I still enjoyed it yeah but
- 47:40Speaker 1: but there were there it's there were some problems I
- 47:43Speaker 1: think one of the main problems was that Marvel recognizes
- 47:46Speaker 1: the superhero fatigue and the uh marathon length we have
- 47:51Speaker 1: to go to to make some of these films. You're
- 47:54Speaker 1: in there for two and a half hours plus sometimes.
- 47:57Speaker 1: And it doesn't always have to be an epic film
- 48:01Speaker 1: and those things. But at the same time, when you've
- 48:03Speaker 1: got some big stuff that happens, give it time to breathe.
- 48:08Speaker 1: And this movie, like you said, this flashes through a
- 48:11Speaker 1: lot of stuff. And one of the bigger ones it
- 48:13Speaker 1: flashes through is the fucking quantum bands. We reunite the bands, which... Granted,
- 48:20Speaker 1: there's a lot of changes that the MCU has made
- 48:22Speaker 1: because originally the old school Mar-Vell had these bands. They
- 48:26Speaker 1: gave him his powers cosmic. They allowed him to, you know,
- 48:29Speaker 1: fly and breathe in space. He can, you know, he
- 48:32Speaker 1: can either do the teleport thing or he can fly
- 48:34Speaker 1: really fast, you know, and get to places, yada, yada, yada.
- 48:36Speaker 1: So they're extremely powerful weapons that protectors of the universe
- 48:41Speaker 1: normally wear.
- 48:41Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 48:42Speaker 1: Well, okay, now they're doing the whole thing. It's their
- 48:45Speaker 1: grandma's bands and yada, yada, yada. And they eventually, Kamala
- 48:48Speaker 1: ends up with both of them. So it's like, so
- 48:51Speaker 1: are these no longer like universal weapons? Like why wouldn't
- 48:54Speaker 1: Carol have these things? No, Kamala's cooler. She gets it.
- 48:58Speaker 1: I know Kamala's cooler, but it's like... I was kind
- 49:01Speaker 1: of glad she got him. I was like, good, now
- 49:03Speaker 1: she can have even more superpowers.
- 49:04Speaker 5: Yay!
- 49:05Speaker 1: So, yeah, it's like, is this going to raise Kamala's
- 49:08Speaker 1: stakes even higher? Make her even more powerful?
- 49:11Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 49:12Speaker 1: It's kind of this curious thing they're doing with her.
- 49:14Speaker 5: Because shouldn't she be able to open up portals? Like,
- 49:17Speaker 5: that's what she was doing.
- 49:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:19Speaker 5: So, in theory. she should be able to do that
- 49:21Speaker 5: whenever the hell she wants now because she's got both bands. Yeah.
- 49:24Speaker 1: Or this allows for space travel for something.
- 49:27Speaker 5: Teleportation from one.
- 49:29Speaker 11: galaxy to another maybe yeah something like that yes there's
- 49:33Speaker 11: definitely a lot of you know questions what they're doing
- 49:35Speaker 11: but yeah the quantum bands are a big fucking deal
- 49:37Speaker 11: in the mcu uh in the comics so i'm surprised
- 49:40Speaker 11: they kind of glossed over them in the film.
- 49:43Speaker 5: But that's a good like that's a good example that's
- 49:45Speaker 5: one of the things i liked so much about ms
- 49:47Speaker 5: marvel is not only did i like that character But
- 49:51Speaker 5: that story that they told, it wasn't a huge story.
- 49:54Speaker 1: It was low stakes.
- 49:55Speaker 5: By the end, they're going to blow up the high school,
- 49:57Speaker 5: and that's the biggest thing that officially is going to
- 50:00Speaker 5: happen in there. But they took their time, and the
- 50:03Speaker 5: whole story with the bands and Grandma and all of
- 50:06Speaker 5: this is paced out perfectly over these episodes. So it
- 50:10Speaker 5: really did feel like you were telling this bigger story
- 50:14Speaker 5: and giving it time to give you the backstory and.
- 50:17Speaker 1: invest in these characters.
- 50:19Speaker 5: And like, that was one of those that I felt
- 50:20Speaker 5: was really well done as a series versus there are
- 50:24Speaker 5: so many of these others that I'm like, I don't
- 50:26Speaker 5: think they know what they're getting. Cause not to switch
- 50:29Speaker 5: total gears, but that was a lot of people's issue.
- 50:32Speaker 5: We just got through again, still Disney Ahsoka.
- 50:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:36Speaker 5: And Ahsoka is that same thing of like, okay, we've
- 50:38Speaker 5: got maybe a two and a half hour idea of,
- 50:41Speaker 5: let's make it into six. I was like, it was like,
- 50:45Speaker 5: it felt like it was eight. Like it just went,
- 50:46Speaker 5: there were so many times when kind of that same thing.
- 50:49Speaker 5: I was like, I feel like they're saying the same
- 50:51Speaker 5: thing over and over and over again. They're stating what
- 50:53Speaker 5: they're going to get to in the last episode.
- 50:56Speaker 1: Every episode.
- 50:57Speaker 5: And then eventually we get there. And I'm like, so
- 50:58Speaker 5: you spun your wheels for these four in the middle.
- 51:01Speaker 5: You really could have just told one story concisely and
- 51:05Speaker 5: done it in a movie and it would have been.
- 51:07Speaker 1: A solid movie.
- 51:07Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 51:08Speaker 5: It's like they can't decide which place to put the
- 51:11Speaker 5: stories or when they get there, they do it the
- 51:13Speaker 5: wrong way. And so I don't know. I mean, again,
- 51:15Speaker 5: this is, Feige's not even involved there, but it's the
- 51:18Speaker 5: overall thing of what they're doing with their running series
- 51:22Speaker 5: versus their films. Yeah. And they so much didn't know
- 51:25Speaker 5: how to do it in Star Wars, they gave up. Like,
- 51:26Speaker 5: we haven't had one. We're finally maybe going to get
- 51:29Speaker 5: back on that road somewhere down the line.
- 51:31Speaker 1: Well, that's the thing. A lot of the Star Wars
- 51:34Speaker 1: series are actually leading to a film that Dave Filoni
- 51:37Speaker 1: is going to direct. So you kind of get what
- 51:40Speaker 1: you're asking for. But you basically, we're giving, the Star
- 51:43Speaker 1: Wars thing is giving you a lot of exposition to
- 51:46Speaker 1: get to something big that we don't have a lot,
- 51:48Speaker 1: that we don't. need to spend a lot of time
- 51:50Speaker 1: on exposition because we already did it over here but
- 51:51Speaker 1: they did.
- 51:52Speaker 5: The same thing like the one before i guess was
- 51:55Speaker 5: obi-wan and it was kind of that same thing it's
- 51:56Speaker 5: like there's great moments in it but overall it's like
- 51:59Speaker 5: you got way more time than you got story to
- 52:01Speaker 5: tell and they just kind of like what else can
- 52:04Speaker 5: we do for this episode so it's like they i
- 52:06Speaker 5: don't know it's like at least at least and or
- 52:09Speaker 5: seemed like it was paced out right like it wasn't again,
- 52:13Speaker 5: it's a lot slower than most of them, but I
- 52:15Speaker 5: feel like at least they felt like they were doing
- 52:17Speaker 5: something and it was timed out right. Where the other
- 52:19Speaker 5: ones have felt like, here, we got to throw this again.
- 52:22Speaker 5: So again, not to totally switch to Star Wars, but
- 52:24Speaker 5: it's that same issue. I feel like that's kind of
- 52:27Speaker 5: what a lot of the Marvel shows were doing too.
- 52:29Speaker 5: It's like some of them work and other ones, they
- 52:32Speaker 5: feel like they don't know what they're doing and they
- 52:34Speaker 5: don't know where they're going, except they want to get
- 52:37Speaker 5: to this point so they can make another series or
- 52:39Speaker 5: they can make another movie. So it's like they've got
- 52:40Speaker 5: an end result, but they don't know what to do
- 52:42Speaker 5: with the middle part and they just drag it out.
- 52:44Speaker 1: Yeah. I think that's kind of one of their main
- 52:47Speaker 1: issues right now is of course the, the, the actors
- 52:50Speaker 1: and writer strikes that, you know, they've all been resolved
- 52:52Speaker 1: now finally by this time. Um, so it will delay
- 52:57Speaker 1: things slightly, but hopefully the summer of 2024 isn't going
- 53:01Speaker 1: to be affected too badly because with film releases. Maybe
- 53:04Speaker 1: things will be pushed back a little bit, but, you know,
- 53:06Speaker 1: I think we're mostly still on track with a lot
- 53:08Speaker 1: of our big stuff. But, yeah, Marvel really kind of
- 53:12Speaker 1: does need to wrap it up, B, when it comes
- 53:16Speaker 1: to this particular phase, because... They've got so much flack.
- 53:20Speaker 1: They've had to restart. That's kind of the problem. Anybody
- 53:24Speaker 1: who's a sports fan knows. It's like when you've got
- 53:26Speaker 1: to redo the team that was once a championship, your
- 53:30Speaker 1: favorite team, and then now they suck for a couple years.
- 53:32Speaker 1: We're in a town that's doing that right now. Yeah.
- 53:37Speaker 1: We have a sports.
- 53:37Speaker 5: Team that didn't know what the hell to do with itself.
- 53:40Speaker 5: So I don't pay attention to sports. But even I know.
- 53:42Speaker 5: It's like, wow, we are on a rebuilding year, aren't we?
- 53:46Speaker 1: So rebuilding years are really rough and Even with film
- 53:49Speaker 1: franchises like this, it's really rough. And the audience is
- 53:53Speaker 1: not given a lot of patience because they basically, the
- 53:56Speaker 1: last thing they saw for the previous one was Endgame,
- 53:59Speaker 1: which was a fucking epic film. And now they want
- 54:01Speaker 1: everything to be like Endgame. It's like you can't have
- 54:03Speaker 1: Endgame every fucking time. And that's what I was thinking of.
- 54:07Speaker 5: I was like, well, again, like Infinity War is amazing.
- 54:10Speaker 5: And Endgame really kind of delivers this, again, huge two
- 54:13Speaker 5: and a half hour epic. So, I mean, those felt
- 54:16Speaker 5: like they were bad. big enough to have these movies
- 54:18Speaker 5: and they had stakes big enough to make it worthwhile
- 54:22Speaker 5: and here again it should be on paper but it
- 54:24Speaker 5: just didn't feel that way and i'm like you can't
- 54:28Speaker 5: do that every time but then we've got other examples
- 54:31Speaker 5: that like find a way like i've i've said this
- 54:34Speaker 5: as we mentioned earlier i've had a lot of and
- 54:37Speaker 5: i think that's part of it i think just marvel
- 54:39Speaker 5: in general because i don't like i listened to a
- 54:42Speaker 5: show that their thing became marvel bashing yeah and they
- 54:45Speaker 5: weren't purposefully doing it but it just became like oh
- 54:49Speaker 5: that's all they're doing anybody with any taste in movies
- 54:52Speaker 5: knows that like this is the problem with movies right
- 54:54Speaker 5: now is what marvel has done to everything and i'm
- 54:56Speaker 5: like that just became a go-to that i thought was
- 54:59Speaker 5: lazy so it's like i'm like well i don't ever
- 55:01Speaker 5: want to be that but i'm not going to pretend
- 55:03Speaker 5: like i don't have problems with a lot of what
- 55:05Speaker 5: they've been and especially post-end game it's like everything since
- 55:08Speaker 5: then has been like just off kilter just out of
- 55:12Speaker 5: step it's like because some of them will hit and
- 55:15Speaker 5: be great and And then there's others that are just
- 55:17Speaker 5: totally missing for me.
- 55:20Speaker 1: But it shows me that you can still do that.
- 55:22Speaker 5: It's like you look at Multiverse of Madness, and I'm like,
- 55:26Speaker 5: that told a great story.
- 55:27Speaker 1: It's not three hours long. It's just normal length of
- 55:30Speaker 1: a movie.
- 55:31Speaker 5: It's pretty complicated, kind of, but they found a way
- 55:34Speaker 5: to make it focused and follow one storyline and not
- 55:37Speaker 5: convolute it more than it has to be.
- 55:39Speaker 1: And it works for me, you know? And kind of
- 55:42Speaker 1: same thing for... that last spider-man.
- 55:45Speaker 5: Like again could be very convoluted with what they introduce
- 55:49Speaker 5: and yet it's normal running time the stakes feel like
- 55:52Speaker 5: they're big enough for these people but they're not you
- 55:56Speaker 5: know suffering versus you know in game where you get
- 55:59Speaker 5: the other ones that are just sort of missing the
- 56:01Speaker 5: mark for me so it is then like it's not
- 56:03Speaker 5: like they totally forgot how to do it because we've
- 56:05Speaker 5: had a couple in the middle there that have been
- 56:07Speaker 5: really solid yeah And then we've got Love and War.
- 56:11Speaker 5: I don't know what we're doing here, but we made
- 56:14Speaker 5: another movie.
- 56:16Speaker 1: And that's the thing, too. Folks forget, we didn't like
- 56:22Speaker 1: Iron Man 2. We were mixed on Iron Man 3.
- 56:25Speaker 1: avengers i liked iron man 3 avengers 2 we didn't
- 56:29Speaker 1: necessarily like that much we didn't like thor until the third.
- 56:32Speaker 5: One that's true so i didn't like any of that
- 56:35Speaker 5: thor before 3 so.
- 56:37Speaker 1: Everyone has already forgotten the things that didn't work in
- 56:40Speaker 1: the first phase and now we're in the new phase.
- 56:44Speaker 5: I remember but yeah i think it gets sort of
- 56:47Speaker 5: brushed under the rug but it seemed like they were
- 56:50Speaker 5: i don't know it It's hit and miss. It's like
- 56:52Speaker 5: they were delivering on certain ones. Like, you know, the
- 56:55Speaker 5: Captain Americas were kind of like solid. Yeah.
- 56:57Speaker 1: And like we get.
- 56:58Speaker 5: But even then, I think my thing with Age of
- 57:01Speaker 5: Ultron was the same thing. I was like, this definitely
- 57:04Speaker 5: could have been a series. Like we had way more
- 57:06Speaker 5: story we could have told that we had to kind
- 57:08Speaker 5: of cram into this two hours. So it's that same
- 57:11Speaker 5: thing of like figuring out where to invest the time. Because,
- 57:16Speaker 5: I mean, eventually they did that. You know, Infinity War
- 57:19Speaker 5: and Endgame is like.
- 57:19Speaker 1: What, four and a half hours or more?
- 57:22Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly. It is a huge amount of time, which
- 57:24Speaker 5: if they would have done a two and a half,
- 57:26Speaker 5: three hour movie with Ultron, you know, they probably would
- 57:29Speaker 5: have balanced it out just fine. So it's just they
- 57:32Speaker 5: were kind of building up the nerve to be like, okay,
- 57:35Speaker 5: we're really going to have to go all in if
- 57:36Speaker 5: we're going to tell this story. So I think then
- 57:39Speaker 5: they were still on that, no, we got to keep
- 57:40Speaker 5: it under two hours kind of idea.
- 57:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:42Speaker 5: Eventually they gave up on it.
- 57:44Speaker 1: I'm kind of hoping that Marvel kind of pairs down
- 57:47Speaker 1: their schedule a bit more. It seems that we're getting
- 57:51Speaker 1: too thick in the weeds now. As far as Disney
- 57:55Speaker 1: Plus goes, Moon Knight was well-received. The Werewolf by Night
- 57:59Speaker 1: one-shot was very well-received. I really like that one. um
- 58:03Speaker 1: ms marvel was well received by the people who watched
- 58:05Speaker 1: it but it was not a hit yeah you know
- 58:07Speaker 1: a lot of people skipped it because they thought well
- 58:09Speaker 1: you know whatever reason to be but it's like no
- 58:11Speaker 1: people like no this is a fun coming of age
- 58:13Speaker 1: story um if you don't know what life is like
- 58:16Speaker 1: for pakistani immigrants in america you got to see that
- 58:20Speaker 1: i think that's.
- 58:20Speaker 5: Part of it i think because they invested so much
- 58:23Speaker 5: in this again this character it's like that's why that
- 58:26Speaker 5: one is so solid And you love her parents. I'm
- 58:29Speaker 5: so glad they were in this movie.
- 58:31Speaker 1: I know, yeah. Her family makes it. Her family is
- 58:33Speaker 1: so much fun.
- 58:34Speaker 5: And I'm just like, this is why you want to
- 58:37Speaker 5: be invested in these movies. And when you skip that stuff,
- 58:40Speaker 5: it's like everything else starts to suffer.
- 58:42Speaker 1: So, I don't know. It also really kind of depends
- 58:45Speaker 1: on the character themselves. In the comics, Kamala has been
- 58:49Speaker 1: universally beloved pretty much since she popped in. And is
- 58:53Speaker 1: one of those characters that has grown... Into just being
- 58:56Speaker 1: a great hero and a great leader and somebody you
- 58:59Speaker 1: want to follow, you know, into the fray because she's
- 59:03Speaker 1: just a great person and you know she's got the
- 59:06Speaker 1: best intentions doing the right thing, yada, yada, yada. Yeah.
- 59:09Speaker 5: So.
- 59:10Speaker 1: Iman Valani has done a fantastic job of cultivating that.
- 59:13Speaker 1: She's phenomenal. And I just looked her up. I was like,
- 59:16Speaker 1: I don't really remember her for anything. She hadn't done
- 59:19Speaker 1: anything else.
- 59:20Speaker 5: She sent in a cold tape because her aunt suggested
- 59:23Speaker 5: it to her and she got in that TV show.
- 59:26Speaker 1: That's where she sort of started.
- 59:28Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 59:29Speaker 1: She is so good. But also, she's a fan. She
- 59:33Speaker 1: gets the character. One thing I thought was beautiful was
- 59:37Speaker 1: they've released, basically, Kamala has got a different status now
- 59:42Speaker 1: in the comics. Because, of course, you know, initially when
- 59:45Speaker 1: she was made, her powers came from an inhuman origin.
- 59:50Speaker 1: And then in the show, they made her mutant.
- 59:52Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 59:53Speaker 1: Well, in the comics now, they killed her off, but
- 59:56Speaker 1: they resurrected her. It was the shortest turnaround of a
- 59:59Speaker 1: superhero death to resurrection in history because it was literally
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: two months that she was dead and revived. That's it.
- 1:00:07Speaker 7: Did J.J.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: Abrams make this? Back to making fun of Star Wars.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: But the whole thing was essentially to bring her back,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: and now she's both. She is an inhuman, and apparently
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: she is also mutant, but her.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: Emergence of the inhuman powers tamp down the mutant stuff.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: So basically she's got further development to go because her
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: mutant powers may differ from what we've already known her
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: with her inhuman stuff. So they've got a new comic
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: now and Iman Valani is co-writing the comic. Because she's
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: that awesome.
- 1:00:39Speaker 5: Like I really like she is so good at this
- 1:00:42Speaker 5: character and like it makes me like because I was
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: thinking I was like this is like one of my favorite.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: Characters of anything in years.
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: Like I think she is so not just likable which
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: she is but also like it's it's this humanity that
- 1:00:57Speaker 5: she brings to it because i literally like in the
- 1:01:00Speaker 5: theater i was like as soon as she was going
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: through the weird dream sequence things and like as she
- 1:01:05Speaker 5: comes out of it i'm like if i know her
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: as a character she's gonna go over there and give
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: her a hug yeah and she did it and i
- 1:01:11Speaker 5: was like jesus i was like the few times i
- 1:01:14Speaker 5: was like oh my god this is so like she
- 1:01:18Speaker 5: is giving this heart that Carol.
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: Danvers had nothing. You know, it's like she brought nothing.
- 1:01:23Speaker 5: To that where she has so much emotion and so
- 1:01:25Speaker 5: much like sort of joy to be doing what she's
- 1:01:28Speaker 5: doing that even when it's tough times, like she brings
- 1:01:32Speaker 5: a different level to it that makes you want to
- 1:01:34Speaker 5: root for her that I don't think we ever had
- 1:01:36Speaker 5: with Carol Danvers.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: And that's the big problem with Captain Marvel is that
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: she's a stiff in the comics, too. The only thing
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: they've done over the years to really kind of try
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: to humanize her a bit more, and they did this
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: kind of the late 90s, and every now and then
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: somebody will touch on it, but it's not in regular things. Basically,
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: she's an alcoholic also. No. And Tony Stark is her sponsor.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: I don't know if that's the best. Well, currently Tony's
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: been still sober for a while. But every now and
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: then they'll address it. But it's not as something big
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: that Tony wears on his sleeve that fans who know
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: Iron Man knows that he's an alcoholic and something he's battled.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: But it's something they've only touched on a couple of
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: times and really haven't addressed it. So it's like she
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: still kind of comes off as just perfect and joyless.
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: But, you know... You also kind of understand, you know,
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: basically she's military, so maybe there's something that goes in
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: with that as well. And, you know, I mean, she's
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: had some interesting, you know, tie-ins in the comics as
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: well that have kind of been very traumatic for her.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: So it's just like, you know, but yeah, they need
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: to work a bit more on humanizing her and they...
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: There's a little of it here.
- 1:02:45Speaker 5: Like watching her interact with the other two is the
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: most useful thing. Like it really is like, okay, I
- 1:02:52Speaker 5: don't like dislike her. It was just like, she just
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: didn't bring anything to that first movie. So giving her
- 1:02:57Speaker 5: these other two people, she kind of lightens up a
- 1:02:59Speaker 5: little bit. She does seem a little human by the end.
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: So especially once you get to the, I mean, we
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: glossed over the, we have a musical section in the
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: middle of it. So when we get to her having
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: a secret, fake, possibly real marriage to her, This random
- 1:03:14Speaker 5: prince that I was like, this is fun. This is
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: giving her a weird side of her that we never
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: saw before. I think that was really good, too.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: Yeah, a marriage of convenience. But at the same.
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: Time, there's definitely something going on there with the two
- 1:03:27Speaker 5: of them. So I kind of like that. That was
- 1:03:30Speaker 5: maybe the most interesting side story we could have had
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: because it wasn't... I mean, we certainly have the big
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: murder win that also comes up later that at least
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: makes her fallible, which is nice when she's super all
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: the time. But that was also a sillier version that
- 1:03:46Speaker 5: brought a little something light to her and made it
- 1:03:48Speaker 5: sort of fun.
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: And we got to hear her.
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: Sing, which we all know, I, as someone who has
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: the soundtrack to Hoot, which she does a track on,
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: Brie actually can sing.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:04:01Speaker 5: So, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I think what we need to see a lot
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: more of is Carol's interaction with other cultures and how she,
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: they react to her and vice versa.
- 1:04:12Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: You know, we only, we basically saw like one good example,
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: the musical world, and then one bad example with her
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: own secondary home world. So yeah, we need to see
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: a little bit more of what the universe thinks of
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: Captain Marvel. Yeah. Outside of just one example, but yeah.
- 1:04:30Speaker 5: I was trying to think, I was like, as I
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: was watching this, cause I'm like, she was still coming
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: off kind of, and I was like, what is it
- 1:04:37Speaker 5: with brie i was like do i because then i
- 1:04:39Speaker 5: was thinking i was like what else have i really
- 1:04:41Speaker 5: seen her in i'm like she's amazing in room but
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: again rooms a two-hander most of the time you know
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: it's like it's almost all her yeah because it's just
- 1:04:51Speaker 5: a kid and her most of the movie so it's
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: like it's an impressive feat but again it's not her
- 1:04:57Speaker 5: being super personable with others it's like she's Literally, locked
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: up by herself. Yeah, we haven't seen her in a
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: rom-com or a fun movie or something.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: I'm looking through.
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: She's done other stuff, but I really... It's older stuff,
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: because she's been working since she was a kid. I
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: saw her in something lately, and she was unrecognizable. It
- 1:05:15Speaker 5: was so young, I wouldn't have picked her out of
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: the crowd. I was like, whoa, that is her. That's crazy.
- 1:05:21Speaker 5: So she's been working forever, so I don't doubt her
- 1:05:25Speaker 5: as an actress, really. but I feel like she needs
- 1:05:27Speaker 5: to sort of develop that and maybe do more fun
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: stuff that like, maybe it's just like muscles.
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: She's not flexing. Like, yeah.
- 1:05:36Speaker 5: Cause I feel like she can do that. Cause that
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: was the only other thing I could think of is
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: like during, I think it was when Kimmel got in trouble.
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: And did she take over? She took over one of
- 1:05:45Speaker 5: the late night shows. I think she spent a week on,
- 1:05:48Speaker 5: maybe it was Kimmel.
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: Kimmel is terrible, but I was glad to see, like,
- 1:05:53Speaker 5: I wanted to see.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: Her in that role.
- 1:05:55Speaker 5: And like, she was pretty good at it. Like she
- 1:05:57Speaker 5: was way more functional than most people being thrown into
- 1:06:00Speaker 5: that role. Cause they kept rotating people out and a
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: lot of them were really bad.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: And like, she was, she was solid.
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: So I was like, she can carry stuff like that.
- 1:06:08Speaker 5: That's way lighter and way more frivolous, you know? So
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: it's like, I don't know. It's just trying to find
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: the right alchemy to that and shove it into a
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: marvel movie i guess.
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: Yeah i need to see her like host an snl
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: or something like that it's.
- 1:06:21Speaker 5: Like that that's the kind of stuff that she could
- 1:06:23Speaker 5: do that sort of lightens things up a little.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: Sure yeah so yeah i mean that did but that
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: is ultimately a problem with that.
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: Character yeah she's also been handed a super boring stiff.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: Carol's stiff so yeah yeah carol's not fun she is
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: a stiff yeah um it'd be interesting if they would
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: eventually start Because there's basically a couple other characters within
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: the MCU that are similar in her level of power.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: One of them being very interesting that I think we
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: might see in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie would be the Sentry.
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: Which is basically... The Sentry is essentially Marvel's version of
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: Superman if he had a psychotic split personality. Yeah. Because
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: this guy has basically solar-based powers... you know, he's the
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: power of a million exploding suns. Uh, he's also crazy
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: as a loon and his other persona is called the
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: void and the void is his chief nemesis. So basically
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: he is literally fighting himself and he doesn't know he's
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: fighting himself.
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: Superman three.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: I've seen this.
- 1:07:28Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: He's, it was a great movie. Yeah. He's, he's extremely crazy. Um, Yeah,
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: so I'm curious if they're going to do that version
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: of the character. But it would be interesting to see
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: somebody on the level of Carol's power with a much
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: more interesting character. Because that was my thing with Thor.
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: Like, as you said earlier, that's why I could care
- 1:07:48Speaker 5: less about those first two movies.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: Like, he was so boring.
- 1:07:51Speaker 5: And I'm like, again, God like powers. And I was like, well,
- 1:07:54Speaker 5: who cares?
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: He can do whatever he wants.
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: And even by the Avengers, it's like... The only reason
- 1:07:58Speaker 5: he worked is because he was deadpan and most of
- 1:08:01Speaker 5: the jokes were at his expense.
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: But again, because.
- 1:08:04Speaker 5: Everybody else was so much more fun, it made at
- 1:08:07Speaker 5: least that first movie okay. And it wasn't until Ragnarok
- 1:08:10Speaker 5: when we just made him goofy as hell. And it's
- 1:08:13Speaker 5: such a fun story that it worked.
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: But it was that same thing. Godlike powers, I was like,
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: I'm already checked out. Well, and the thing is you've
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: got to add in that other element that makes Thor special,
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: which is Loki. The more Loki you add into a
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: Thor film, the more you've got that balance. Because Loki
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: is the fun, interesting one. Oh, yeah. And Thor's the
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: perfect child. And he goes out and fights and does
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: his thing. Maybe he gets a little overzealous in the
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: fighting and his hubris. But for the most part, yeah,
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: there you go. He's out there winning the day. Yeah.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: He's the pride of his father's eye.
- 1:08:47Speaker 5: By the time they're working together, which again, in three,
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: is why it works so well.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: Because again, like.
- 1:08:52Speaker 5: The first one in Avengers, he's busy being a dick
- 1:08:54Speaker 5: the whole time. So it's like, But again, he already
- 1:08:57Speaker 5: has that spark that you're like, oh no, that guy.
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: I like that guy.
- 1:09:00Speaker 5: Like so he won everybody over a little bit there
- 1:09:03Speaker 5: but even more so by ragnarok when he's just it's
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: the team up and they're both being fun and goofy
- 1:09:08Speaker 5: and i don't know it kind of works well.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: And that's the problem you've got too with your translation
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: from page to screen you know When a writer creates
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: a character and the artist draws the character and you've
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: got those two things coming together, you've got now a
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: thing that's come into existence. This character has come into
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: existence in the pages of a comic book. People get
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: to know it. You fall in love with it or
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: you hate him or whatever the case may be. Now
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: you've got a translation of an actor and a writer
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: reinventing this character for the visual medium. And sometimes that
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: actor may not be as good as the writer or
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: sometimes the actor is better than the writer.
- 1:09:45Speaker 5: Or sometimes they bring so much of themselves to it
- 1:09:47Speaker 5: that it overshadows the character.
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:09:49Speaker 5: We get a lot in movies, I feel like.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: And so that's why the MCU, you know, we still
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: talk about like how good Loki is or how good
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: like Captain America is. But then we always remember like. well,
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: Thor kind of sucked for two movies. Or, you know,
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: we don't really like Carol Danvers because she's not this.
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: So it has everything to do with the whole combination
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: of how that character is translated on screen. Again, as
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: I said, it's alchemy. When it works, it is magical.
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: And then when it doesn't, you're like, ooh. And I forgot,
- 1:10:17Speaker 5: one of the main reasons she loses so many cool
- 1:10:20Speaker 5: points in this movie.
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: She's wearing Crocs.
- 1:10:23Speaker 5: Carol.
- 1:10:25Speaker 5: I already, you were fighting an uphill battle with me anyway,
- 1:10:28Speaker 5: but Crocs, really?
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: When you've got to wear super duper tight spandex when
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: you're out there gallivanting and kicking ass around the universe,
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: you've got to tone it down a little bit, get
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: a little comfy. So, you know, she's in some sleep
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: pants and some Crocs. I'm fine with the rest of
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: the outfit, but these Crocs got to go, man. Well,
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: you can't walk around barefoot around a spaceship. That stuff's cold, man.
- 1:10:50Speaker 5: I mean, that's what I thought until I was watching
- 1:10:53Speaker 5: the Post-credits scene with Samuel L. Jackson at the end
- 1:10:56Speaker 5: of Spider-Man 2. And I was like, dude's not wearing
- 1:10:59Speaker 5: any shoes.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: What are you doing? Well, those are probably like heated floors, man.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: He's crazy.
- 1:11:04Speaker 5: Samuel L.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: Jackson. Yeah, I mean, Nick Fury, you know he got
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: heated floors, man. I did think that. He's bougie. I
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: was like, wait, why does he not have any shoes on?
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: He's bougie. You're in space, you crazy bastard.
- 1:11:14Speaker 5: So anyway, I just need to bring up Crocs, what
- 1:11:17Speaker 5: the hell.
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: Right, right, right.
- 1:11:18Speaker 5: But I say that every day of my life. Every
- 1:11:20Speaker 5: time I pass the one.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: What are you thinking?
- 1:11:23Speaker 12: Why?
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: Why?
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I hear you. The addition of the multiple alien cats,
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: or flerken as they are known in there, that was
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: cute as shit.
- 1:11:35Speaker 5: I mean, cute kitties. You add cute kitties to anything,
- 1:11:38Speaker 5: how are you going to lose? Especially when they can...
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: Have crazy tentacles and swallow people.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: I love it too. Don't run from the Flerken. Let
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: them eat you. It's okay.
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: And again, I like capturing that guy and being like,
- 1:11:51Speaker 5: I'm sorry.
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: Just stand here and be eaten. It's fine. Yeah. It's
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: a great transportation method and it was a smart play.
- 1:12:03Speaker 5: Again, it was a funny addition to the end of that.
- 1:12:06Speaker 5: It's such a weird balance to what's going on in
- 1:12:09Speaker 5: this movie. But at the same time, I was like,
- 1:12:11Speaker 5: that's pretty funny. Because we've established there's no way all
- 1:12:14Speaker 5: these people are going to get in this escape ship.
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: We're screwed. Oh, wait. Yeah. So get all the kitties there. So, yeah,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: Goose has her own personal army of her own children.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: And where's the father in all this? They didn't really
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: get it. Like, as soon as they... Or unless Flerken
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: are able to self-reproduce or something. Well, that may be.
- 1:12:34Speaker 5: But, yeah, as soon as Mom said... Goose was looking
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: a little big. I was like, oh, God, here we go.
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: And then there were eggs. I was like, yep, here
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: we are.
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: I knew it.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: Yeah, because the whole movie, I'm thinking like, okay, I
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: know there's going to be a whole bunch of flirking
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: and kitten flirking. See, I didn't know. But as soon
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: as you said that, I was like, here we go. Yeah,
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: they're in the trailer.
- 1:12:56Speaker 5: Because, yeah, I must not have... I barely saw any trailers, actually.
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: Yeah, they basically.
- 1:13:01Speaker 5: Because I didn't see them in general, but I guess
- 1:13:04Speaker 5: I watched at least one over the last week, but
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: I just didn't see much of the trailers this time.
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: Yeah, the first couple of trailers, they're all over it.
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: So you know there's going to be a whole bunch
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: of Flerken in the movie, so I was like, where
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: is this going to happen? And then basically when I
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: started seeing it, it was like, oh, she looks a
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: little chunky there. It's like, oh, she's pregnant. There we go.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: And then we see the eggs, like, oh, there's a
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: baby Flerken. They come from eggs. They come from eggs
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: and maybe... I don't know. Maybe they don't need to
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: be outside fertilized. There are a lot of species that
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: are not alien. They are from this planet that can
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: do that. So it's very possible. I don't know the
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: physiology of a flerken to be able to tell you that.
- 1:13:41Speaker 5: And it seems dangerous anyway. They're not the most calm
- 1:13:46Speaker 5: and easy to deal with pets.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: Well, I mean, just think, you know, they're like any
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: kind of cat, except they have these tentacles that come
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: out of them and put you in this, like, bottomless
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: void they have inside them. And, oh, watch the scratches, because,
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: you know. Could take out an eye. Well, I mean, even, like,
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: you know, Nick loves goose. He doesn't hold any hard
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: feelings that you took one of my eyes with a
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: simple cat scratch, you know. But he's all lovey-dovey with them.
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: So it's like, all right, you know, forget, forget. But
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: getting to the end of the film here, so we get,
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: you know, Carol makes things right with Hala, reignites their son,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: and now everybody's happy. But it's like, okay, well, they
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: also stole water and oxygen from these other two planets. Like,
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: how are those other two planets okay? I kind of
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: wondered that, too.
- 1:14:30Speaker 5: I was like, because she likes Musical Planet.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: Are they fine? Are they missing all their water now?
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: What happened? I mean, granted, she said, like, the planet was, like,
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: 95% water. So they're probably okay.
- 1:14:40Speaker 5: Yeah. But it would throw off some stuff.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: I guess, too.
- 1:14:43Speaker 5: But the fact that we didn't really check in with them,
- 1:14:45Speaker 5: I was like.
- 1:14:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: We got Hollaback, and Ms. Marvel, Kamala, now has both bands.
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: Because she's super cool. And I like what they finally
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: have pulled the trigger on, is that we as comic
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: fans have been waiting for... Because we're missing still a
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: couple of members of the Young Avengers. But finally... We
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: have got our building blocks now where Kamala is pulling
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: a Nick Fury.
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: Which I did like it was mirroring the very first
- 1:15:18Speaker 5: time of like, hey, so I'm putting a team together. Yeah.
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: And Kamala's being all like, you know, Nick got that
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: Nick Fury confidence swagger going on. And I know everything
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: about you. Sort of stuff like that.
- 1:15:28Speaker 5: And I was thinking that of the series of many
- 1:15:31Speaker 5: of which I felt like were misses. Like that was
- 1:15:34Speaker 5: the other initial one that I was so impressed with.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: Kate Bishop was awesome.
- 1:15:39Speaker 5: Again, it was one that I felt was very balanced
- 1:15:41Speaker 5: in the story they were trying to tell. They brought
- 1:15:43Speaker 5: in this great character, so I was like, those are
- 1:15:45Speaker 5: the two I've been most invested in. I definitely want
- 1:15:48Speaker 5: to see a team up with these two, and Throw
- 1:15:50Speaker 5: some extra. I'm sure we'll get Ironheart. Again, of the kids,
- 1:15:54Speaker 5: it should be Peter Parker, but I wonder if the
- 1:15:56Speaker 5: Sony will keep him out of.
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: No, he's too old for the team.
- 1:15:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: I mean, Kate Bishop's pushing it, but... Well, basically, if we're...
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: He just got out of high school. Come on. If
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: we want to stick with the members of the Young Avengers,
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: you've been... Kamala is a much later member. The original members,
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: Kate's definitely on that team. We met Elijah Bradley in
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: the Captain America Winter Soldier series when we basically met
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: Isaiah Bradley. So though we kind of just introduced that character,
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: he doesn't have his powers or anything like that yet.
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: He's kind of like basically kind of a little bit
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: like Captain America himself. He calls himself the Patriot. But
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: he's a little bit of Captain America. The twins, the
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: WandaVision twins, they're members, but of course they have to
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: get aged up a little bit.
- 1:16:41Speaker 5: So to say, we've seen them in many different versions,
- 1:16:44Speaker 5: and it's never good when they're there. Maybe they'll graduate
- 1:16:48Speaker 5: up to having good introductions.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: Yeah, but there's still two core members that they have
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: not introduced at all. And you've got one character named Teddy,
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: who basically, he is half Kree and half Skrull.
- 1:17:02Speaker 6: Oh, Lord.
- 1:17:03Speaker 12: Yes.
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: But he goes by the name Hulkling, but he's a
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: shapeshifter as well. A new West Side Story happening here. Well, basically,
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: he ends up having a relationship with one of Wanda's sons, Billy,
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: the magic user. So the two of them are a couple. Actually,
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: they're married now in the comics. Also, you find out
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: that basically the Skrull and the Kree have actually united
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: because they're so close. their races have dwindled down so
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: much that they actually have now formed an alliance, and
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: Teddy is now the Emperor of the Universe because he
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: is both. So his status has gone up. The other
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: core member is Iron Lad, which basically is a good
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: Kang variant, which now the groundwork for that has been
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: laid out thanks to Victor Timely and Loki. So we
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: know that while there are hundreds upon hundreds of bad
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: Kang variants, there are some good ones. So we haven't
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: been introduced to Iron Lad yet, or maybe Victor Timely
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: will become Iron Lad, seeing as... You haven't finished the
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: Loki series, but there's some stuff in there that could
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: possibly do that.
- 1:18:06Speaker 5: Again, they don't have to rush to those. We've got
- 1:18:08Speaker 5: the two that I'm most invested in. So I want
- 1:18:10Speaker 5: to see, even if they just do a team up
- 1:18:12Speaker 5: with those two, it would be awesome. Yeah. I know
- 1:18:14Speaker 5: they're building to more, but both of those characters are great.
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: Absolutely, yeah. And Ironheart's definitely a member. She becomes one
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: later on. Miles Morales becomes one later. And I would
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: love to see a finally get a live action Miles Morales.
- 1:18:26Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: He's super popular over in the Spider-Verse animated films.
- 1:18:29Speaker 5: That's the whole other, yeah, offshoot series that's got such
- 1:18:33Speaker 5: a following.
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like... I would think they'd want to cash
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: in on that. Yeah, we need live-action Miles.
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: Without a doubt. Yeah, so it just... And, of course,
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: when you get, you know, kind of the core members,
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: kind of the later iterations of the Young Avengers, it's
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: like it's Kamala... it's Miles, and then there's a character
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: called Sammy Alexander, who is a Nova, but the way
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: the MCU's done the Nova characters, he's a little different, too,
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: because basically they're like dudes in ships as opposed to
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: dudes in spacesuits running around with, like, sentient helmets and,
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: you know, yada, yada. Whether or not we get an
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: actual Nova that's the version from the comics, we'll see.
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: But at least we finally are starting to get the
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: building blocks now of the Young Avengers being formed. So
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: I was very excited to see that.
- 1:19:20Speaker 5: I did like especially the very mirrored version of that.
- 1:19:23Speaker 5: Because it's been so long since that first one that
- 1:19:26Speaker 5: I was just like, and that's my running joke in
- 1:19:28Speaker 5: every post-credits scene of Whatever movie it is, it could
- 1:19:32Speaker 5: be a dumb rom-com. And then at the end, Samuel L.
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: Jackson shows up and he's like, hey, you want to
- 1:19:37Speaker 5: be on my team? So they literally did a funny
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: version of that.
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: I like that. And then, of course, we have our
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: big conflict and Monica seals up the rift in time
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: and space that Supremor opened up, but now she's trapped
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: on the other side in another universe.
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: Which we've already seen plenty of. So we know that's
- 1:19:59Speaker 5: out there, but now we can work in a whole
- 1:20:02Speaker 5: new universe people to start switching over.
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: Yeah, because the big thing, well, the one thing they
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: start us off with is, oh, she sees her mom. Yeah.
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: But her mom is not exactly her mom because she's.
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: Well, at first, yeah, I was like, so her mom
- 1:20:17Speaker 5: didn't die. And then we get in, I was like, oh, no,
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: this is just a different mom.
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: But we had kind of laid that groundwork. Earlier in
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: the film, when we see the flashbacks, when Carol's talking
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: to her mom, she's like, you should have been Captain Marvel,
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: not me. Yeah. But I won the race, and so
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: that's why, blah, blah, blah. So this is that world. Like,
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: what if, you know, not Monica, whatever her mom's name is. Yeah. But,
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: you know, Colonel Rambo. Yeah, she basically could have been
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: Captain Marvel, but she took the name Binary instead. So
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: it's kind of the same thing. But the other big thing,
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: of course, it was so funny, too, because when... And
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: she's talking to– Monica's talking to Binary, and we see
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: a person in a big blue flash walk by. And
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: I can hear the rumblings already in the theaters, and
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: then you hear that voice. You hear the voice. I
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: was like, oh, shit. They shelled out the money to
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: bring him back. And I will say, good CGI on him.
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: yeah and it was so funny because people like what
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: did they do in makeup like dude fucking kelsey grammars
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: push get close to 70 he doesn't want to be
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: in that shit.
- 1:21:22Speaker 5: It doesn't need to be doing that the fact that
- 1:21:24Speaker 5: they brought him back like surprising really because you think
- 1:21:27Speaker 5: they'd be like let's just start anew and we can
- 1:21:29Speaker 5: do whatever we want from here on out but you
- 1:21:32Speaker 5: know fan service works.
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: Yeah so make him a cg character and have kelsey
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: voice him but you can basically have hank do more
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: beast like things if we ever use him but It's interesting, though,
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: that basically this is the way we have introduced a
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: major member of the X-Men, our first one outside of
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: Charles Xavier, kind of the little tease we got over
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: Doctor Strange. And spoilers, took him out immediately.
- 1:21:55Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: So that universe no longer has the Charles Xavier. Yeah,
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: but it's interesting that basically we bring in Hank McCoy
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: here because... One thing I've repeated Kevin Feige had said
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: is basically, you know, we have this avenue of trying
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: to bring in the mutants of the X-Men into this world.
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: You know, I want to do a thing where they've
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: always kind of been here. They've been hiding in the shadows, yada, yada, yada.
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: We're not going to do a open up a portal
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: and then 50 people walk out and they all have
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: powers like, hey, what's up with the X-Men? We brought
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: potato salad. Yeah. You know, we're not going to do that.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: Then what the fuck do you do?
- 1:22:33Speaker 10: Well.
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: You trap a hero over in another universe, she goes
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: through a portal, and over there, guess what? You got
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: fucking X-Men. Technically, they've always been there.
- 1:22:43Speaker 5: They were so in the shadows, you didn't even know
- 1:22:45Speaker 5: they existed.
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: So... So what are they going to do with this
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: development now? And again, we can.
- 1:22:56Speaker 5: I mean, really, you could almost... I don't think they will,
- 1:22:59Speaker 5: because we always come back to our same story. You
- 1:23:02Speaker 5: could just start doing movies in other places. And you
- 1:23:05Speaker 5: could have entirely different cast and different people playing different roles.
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: Again, they like to confuse people.
- 1:23:10Speaker 5: So that would confuse the hell out of some people.
- 1:23:12Speaker 5: But you could just do, and now we're following Monica
- 1:23:15Speaker 5: over here. We're going to see what's going on in
- 1:23:17Speaker 5: this universe.
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: Yeah. But I don't think they're going to.
- 1:23:20Speaker 5: They're going to find a way for her to get
- 1:23:21Speaker 5: back and then guess who's coming with her?
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: A whole bunch of X-Men. Well, it seems to that
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: definitely because, I mean, you know, the most logical place
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: would be, you know, Kang Dynasty. We'll see them again. Yeah.
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: Or possibly even what... Deadpool 3 sounds like it's ramping
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: up to be a much bigger movie than what we
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: initially thought.
- 1:23:40Speaker 5: It seemed like it was just a funny idea at first,
- 1:23:42Speaker 5: and now they're like, oh, we can use this, actually.
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: I know they're doing a lot of joke stunt casting,
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: because they're doing it with multiversal stuff, so we're going
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: to see some different iterations of Deadpool. I know for
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: a fact they've cast Dogpool, which basically is a dog
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: version of Deadpool, but it's like, It's one of those
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: dogs that won the ugliest dog contests or dogs. This
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: is not a normal-looking dog, but you put him in
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: a Deadpool suit and he's even less normal-looking. But yes,
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: it's kind of one of those dogs. They've joked around
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: that we're going to see fan-casted Wolverines. Basically, of course,
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: there was the joke years ago that, oh, let's cast
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: Daniel Radcliffe as Wolverine. And so we may see a
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: Daniel Radcliffe Wolverine variant where he just basically looks very
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: maniacal and weird and whatever else. He can do that.
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: He can pull it off. He can pull... I mean,
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: the dude's got himself in shape. He can do all
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: kinds of.
- 1:24:38Speaker 5: Yeah, we've seen him in so many other things now.
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: It's like, he's got range.
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: He can do all kinds of stuff. You know, I
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: think there's even like... We may get like a Tom
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: Hardy Wolverine or something like that. It's basically like the
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: much more rougher, tougher, you know, sort of thing like that.
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:24:53Speaker 5: It's just.
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: There's going to be a lot of fun to be
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: had in Deadpool 3, but I think there's also going
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: to be some major shit that happens.
- 1:25:00Speaker 5: I mean, if they really want to deliver on the joke,
- 1:25:02Speaker 5: just go ahead and cast Danzig and give everybody the
- 1:25:06Speaker 5: dumb stunt casting they've been asking for for like 25 years.
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. In the pages of Wizard Magazine, we cast
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: Glenn Danzig as Wolverine a long time ago because he's short,
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: he's muscular, and he's furry. And he seems pissed off
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: all day long. But that's exactly what Wolverine is. You
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: got to style his hair a little differently, give him
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: some claws, and boom, you got your Wolverine right there.
- 1:25:26Speaker 5: So at this point, if we need like an old
- 1:25:28Speaker 5: version of Wolverine, there's your stunt casting.
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, there is an old man Wolverine. Yeah. Some
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: old man Logans are going on out there. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: That's what we need. But yeah, so there's a lot
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: of questions about where we're going from here. A lot
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: of big stuff to be done before. I mean, that's...
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: That's the thing, too, is like, you know, how far
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: did the strikes push things back? Because we're expecting our
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: first Avengers film, I think, in 25, I believe?
- 1:25:58Speaker 5: No.
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: 25 or 26, something like that? So, you know, is
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: any of this stuff pushed back? What have we got
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: left to do? And is Marvel going to kind of
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: maybe learn from their lesson of maybe, like, let's pare
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: shit down a little bit? Like, let's really, like, if
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: we're going to have movies come out, let's make sure
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: that either... we're introducing something, something to add to it,
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: not just we have to put these characters in and
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: fill this void.
- 1:26:20Speaker 5: Yeah, it feels like we've had a good amount of,
- 1:26:23Speaker 5: I don't know, here, put this out. So like in
- 1:26:25Speaker 5: both avenues, both series and in movies. So yeah, I
- 1:26:29Speaker 5: don't know if they can just focus and figure out
- 1:26:32Speaker 5: what they need exactly.
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: And granted, this is a huge puzzle that they're working on.
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: It's fine that you want to bring in new characters
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: to the fold, new sides of the Marvel Universe to
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: the fold. That's cool. But you also have to understand
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: that that works in the comics where you can have
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: a Moon Knight character and a supernatural kind of setting
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: pop up. He's doing his own thing. It's not connected
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: to the superhero stuff, and that's fine. But to the
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: general audience, Moon Knight's got to connect to something. He's
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: got to show up with Spider-Man or with Captain America
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: at some point. Somewhere. If you're in the universe, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: You can't just have this separate door that no one
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: ever goes into. It's got to open to something somewhere. So,
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: they've got to get a little bit better with their connectivity,
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: and like, you know, hey, if we don't necessarily need
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: this character for the big thing we've got coming up next,
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: which is basically, happens to be our Avengers films, that's
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: kind of what we've established now, like, you know, basically,
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: you know... The TV shows and some of the smaller movies,
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: those are your regular weekly wrestling shows. But Avengers, those
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: are your big WrestleManias right there. That's your big pay-per-view.
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: You get to the steel cage match.
- 1:27:40Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: You better have some impressive people in that cage.
- 1:27:43Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: We need to see Hogan and Andre do their thing
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: in the next Avengers movie. So that's kind of the
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: pattern we've gone here. So it's like, well, if we
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: don't necessarily need... These characters, we don't need to fill
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: in the Marvel Universe with a whole bunch of shit
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: we don't need. We need to be much more strategic
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: about what we're releasing, what we're putting out, so that
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: everything makes sense when we get to the end. Now, granted,
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: that may happen when we get to Kang Dasty in
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: Secret Wars, but right now, it seems like we've got
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: much more of a melting pot than we did with
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: the previous phase. And that's not necessarily a good thing,
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: because we don't know where all the ingredients come into.
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: And I don't think they did either. I don't think
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: they did either, yeah. I think they got midway into
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: this run and went, wait, what are we doing?
- 1:28:28Speaker 5: They're focused on these little ones, but they did a
- 1:28:31Speaker 5: really good job in that last phase of like having
- 1:28:34Speaker 5: the eyes on the prize and like everything's coming to
- 1:28:38Speaker 5: this we know we've got a bigger plan with what
- 1:28:41Speaker 5: we're doing and then after that was done they were
- 1:28:43Speaker 5: like shit what do we do now like there's been
- 1:28:47Speaker 5: a lot of struggling to figure that out and then
- 1:28:50Speaker 5: keep moving towards the right goal yeah I.
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: Think, too, they had an easier time in the first phase.
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: We're building the Avengers. We're building the Avengers to the
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: point where they will fight Thanos for the Infinity Gauntlet
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: and the fate of all existence. You can wrap your
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: head around that.
- 1:29:07Speaker 5: We all knew that, yeah.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: You can wrap your head around that. We don't know
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: exactly where this is all going. We know there's a
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: lot of multidimensional stuff. There's timey-wimey stuff. Possibly we're going
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: to be getting into some of these dimensions will start
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: dying off like we saw in Doctor Strange.
- 1:29:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: So let's kind of get the ball rolling here.
- 1:29:28Speaker 5: And again, because all of that can, as I've said before,
- 1:29:32Speaker 5: get really convoluted. It's like I feel like you've got
- 1:29:35Speaker 5: to have your plan and focus in because we got
- 1:29:39Speaker 5: to that point, especially by endgame. We're dealing with time
- 1:29:41Speaker 5: travel and we're already doing all kinds of crazy looping
- 1:29:44Speaker 5: around and characters... fighting themselves and like something that could
- 1:29:48Speaker 5: have gone off the rails and they people have issues
- 1:29:51Speaker 5: with in-game but i'm like it works pretty well like
- 1:29:54Speaker 5: for as much stuff as is going on in that
- 1:29:57Speaker 5: two and a half hours like it is still or
- 1:30:00Speaker 5: however well it's more than that but it's like there's
- 1:30:02Speaker 5: a lot going on and somehow it never really gets
- 1:30:05Speaker 5: out of control like you're still on board with what's
- 1:30:08Speaker 5: going on you know where all the characters are and
- 1:30:10Speaker 5: by the end you know what they're doing it's like
- 1:30:12Speaker 5: that's easy to get out of control and like i
- 1:30:15Speaker 5: feel like That could be where they're heading if they
- 1:30:18Speaker 5: don't kind of get a focus on it.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: And figure out everything beforehand. And I think one of
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: the main focuses we need to do is we need
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: to have a second generation of Avengers.
- 1:30:28Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: We need an establishment of another team that's there to
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: face the big threat that's coming. And right now we
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: don't have that. We've got a bunch of scattered heroes
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: that aren't united.
- 1:30:39Speaker 5: Yeah. And we don't like, again, we don't even have
- 1:30:42Speaker 5: of the ones we had left. They've all kind of
- 1:30:45Speaker 5: been doing their own. Like, again, some of the movies work.
- 1:30:48Speaker 5: Some of them don't. Yeah. It's like it's it's hit
- 1:30:50Speaker 5: and miss. And then we've got all these new people
- 1:30:52Speaker 5: we're trying to introduce. But I'm like, it's back and forth, too.
- 1:30:56Speaker 5: Sometimes it's in the movies. Sometimes it's in the shows.
- 1:30:58Speaker 5: And it's like that confuses people, too.
- 1:31:00Speaker 4: So.
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: I don't know. It's a lot to juggle. Yeah, it
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: was like the Avengers that we have left, the only
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: one who's really addressed the loss of his team is Hawkeye. Yeah.
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: We saw that in his show. He's retired, essentially. Yeah,
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: he's basically kind of retired. But again, he's human. He
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: doesn't have any powers. Yeah. So it makes more sense
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: for him to not be in the fray much anymore.
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: They'll probably pull his ass out. I'm sure for... Extra
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: long cameos. Yeah, for the big stuff. But it's like
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: Steve Rogers has been MIA and retired out of the
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: game since Endgame. Thor really hasn't addressed it because, again,
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: he's a god. He's been through a lot of stuff.
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: But we didn't really see Thor's addressing of part of
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: my team is dead. The rest of them are either
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: MIA or whatever else.
- 1:31:48Speaker 5: He literally did not know what he was doing. And
- 1:31:51Speaker 5: we watched that through that whole last movie of like,
- 1:31:54Speaker 5: what do I do now? So he's wandering around with
- 1:31:57Speaker 5: his only connection to another team that didn't really want.
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: Him after a while. And we saw Hulk kind of
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: meandering a little bit in Ragnarok, but then we really
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: haven't seen Hulk. We saw him a little bit in She-Hulk,
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: but it's like, Not much. So it's like, yeah, it's
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: like there's been– the Avengers have folded. There's been nothing
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: that's taken its place. And so it's like we need
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: kind of like– we need to start bringing it home.
- 1:32:19Speaker 5: Yeah, I would almost– again, I know they've got so
- 1:32:22Speaker 5: much invested in all these other ones. But like you
- 1:32:24Speaker 5: could almost slowly retire all the previous ones and just– again,
- 1:32:29Speaker 5: they could have just started doing the shows of nothing
- 1:32:31Speaker 5: but the kids.
- 1:32:32Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 1:32:33Speaker 5: And had them all like introduced already and then work
- 1:32:36Speaker 5: their way up to a movie with all of them
- 1:32:38Speaker 5: together and maybe slowly fade out some of the ones
- 1:32:43Speaker 5: that are still around. But like, I don't know, like
- 1:32:45Speaker 5: I feel like they, they didn't know what to do
- 1:32:47Speaker 5: with it and it's been scattered and kind of different pieces.
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: Cause when you've got some heroes they've established as being
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: the next generation, like, you know, Sam Wilson, he's now
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: captain America. Um, what's Bucky going to do? I don't
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: know yet. And even Sam, I don't know.
- 1:33:02Speaker 5: Like again, that was another one that was hit and
- 1:33:04Speaker 5: miss for me. It's like, sometimes there was good stuff
- 1:33:06Speaker 5: going on there. Sometimes it didn't seem like they knew
- 1:33:08Speaker 5: what they were doing with, with that character and with
- 1:33:11Speaker 5: the whole combination of the two of them.
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: So I, I liked the playoff between the two of them,
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: but yeah, it took a little bit for them to
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: finally like, let's get Sam in the suit and embracing
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: being captain America, which was by the last episode. Yeah.
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: I could have done with that in episode five. And then,
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: have more of it in episode six, but yeah, they,
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: they literally waited to the end to have this. It's like, okay, well, yeah. Uh,
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: I mean, granted, he's got a movie coming up, which
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: I want to start seeing some more stuff about that now. Uh,
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: but yeah, it's like, we need to kind of, one
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: thing I would actually like to see is if we
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: get a combination of some of the leftover next generation heroes,
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: like your, you know, Sam Wilson's, you know, whatever, or your, um, uh,
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: Yelena Belova, the white widow, you know, you know, seeing her,
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: you know, pop up. We haven't seen her at all
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: since then.
- 1:33:59Speaker 5: Like we saw her do the little recruiting her.
- 1:34:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: It was like Hawkeye.
- 1:34:04Speaker 5: Then we saw the flashback version of recruiting her in.
- 1:34:07Speaker 5: And then I kept thinking, okay, so we're going somewhere
- 1:34:09Speaker 5: with her. And I thought of that earlier today. I
- 1:34:11Speaker 5: was like, yeah, we haven't seen her since then. I
- 1:34:13Speaker 5: knew that's where they were going with her was Thunderbolts,
- 1:34:15Speaker 5: but I'm like, they didn't really do anything in between now.
- 1:34:19Speaker 5: And then she just disappeared.
- 1:34:20Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: Basically it was just, you know, black widow Hawkeye. And
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: then basically the next time we'll see her against Thunderbolts. So, um, yeah,
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: I could deal with more with her. but getting a
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: mixture of maybe getting like Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: on this other Avengers team.
- 1:34:32Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: But then eventually, cause kind of what happened at one
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: point in the Avengers that they did have a multi-generational
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: Avengers where you had some older members and then you
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: had a lot of younger members. And then at one
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: point there's a rift that happens and the younger members
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: are like, we don't like the way you guys are
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: always doing things. There's a smarter and better way to
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: be a hero. That's actually helping people. And not causing
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: so much stupid rampant destruction that happens once a week.
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: But that's what we do. So basically the younger groups,
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: they basically bring back the champion's name again. And then
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: you've got now a younger generation of heroes that is
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: being led by Kamala and Miles and a couple other,
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: you know, Ironheart, a few others. And they're like, we
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: can be better heroes than what the old guard are doing.
- 1:35:21Speaker 5: Right. Racing to get to the same thing. They're like
- 1:35:23Speaker 5: those ambulance companies that are both competing to get to
- 1:35:26Speaker 5: the trauma at first.
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: I'm going to save you. No, I'm going to save you. Well,
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: for instance, a big thing is superheroes come in, they
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: beat up the bad guy, they destroy five blocks of
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: office buildings, and they split. They're done. That's how all
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: these go. What about maybe helping rescue survivors? What about cleanup?
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: What about rebuilding? What about maybe not fighting in busy
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: city streets? Maybe trying to take the fight to a
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: less populated area? It's always a good plan. It doesn't
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: always happen. These are some of the things that Kamala
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: and her team start doing and bringing up. Let's be
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: smarter and better heroes. I would like to see An
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: iteration of that, where basically, like, you know, they do team,
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: you know, basically kind of do a multi-generational Avengers. And
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: then eventually there's the split of, like, the younger kids
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: are going to do this better than the old guard do.
- 1:36:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: And let's see them do more and, you know, start
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: following them a bit more. So I would like to
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: see something like that.
- 1:36:28Speaker 7: Definitely.
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: Yeah. Will we? Don't know. Who knows at this point.
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: But I'm with you, though. We need to... We need
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: to stop noodling Jerry Garcia and get to the fucking
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: chorus and end of the song and get to the
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: next track.
- 1:36:43Speaker 5: Well, I will say that I was kind of impressed
- 1:36:46Speaker 5: direction wise. Again, I think more of the issues was
- 1:36:49Speaker 5: the overall story, which it's according.
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: To IMDB, there's three writers.
- 1:36:53Speaker 5: She's one of them, but like it probably got muddied
- 1:36:56Speaker 5: up with the powers that be going, Oh, we got to.
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: Do this and we do this.
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: And so you got to cram all this in here
- 1:37:02Speaker 5: and wrap it up in an hour and 45 minutes. So,
- 1:37:05Speaker 5: but as far as, Because, again, she's still a pretty
- 1:37:08Speaker 5: new director. She's directed, I think, this is maybe the
- 1:37:11Speaker 5: third feature?
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: So, like... Yeah, now, her Candyman, uh, recall, remake, sequel,
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: whatever you want to call that, was brilliant. Yeah.
- 1:37:21Speaker 5: I've heard nothing but good things. So, now I really
- 1:37:23Speaker 5: want to go back and watch it.
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: So, yeah, I was like.
- 1:37:26Speaker 5: But, again, super low budget compared to what we're dealing
- 1:37:29Speaker 5: with here. So, like, to be thrown into this kind
- 1:37:31Speaker 5: of huge production... I think it's still pretty solid as
- 1:37:34Speaker 5: far as visuals and just delivering pretty much again for,
- 1:37:39Speaker 5: for a lot of crazy story going on, you could
- 1:37:41Speaker 5: be totally overwhelmed by that.
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: And yeah, I was, I thought she did a good job.
- 1:37:45Speaker 5: So I, and I like again, watching what little I
- 1:37:48Speaker 5: have of, of her as interacting with the actors.
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: I think she bonded with those three. And I think
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: that's the stuff that comes through.
- 1:37:55Speaker 5: That's you see her like, delivering on the interaction part
- 1:38:00Speaker 5: and like seeing what a good bond these three have
- 1:38:03Speaker 5: off screen and like, well, how do we make that
- 1:38:05Speaker 5: work on screen? So again, I think that stuff works
- 1:38:07Speaker 5: and she found a way to have that come through,
- 1:38:10Speaker 5: even if the overall plan is sort of glossed over
- 1:38:13Speaker 5: and crammed in there.
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 1:38:15Speaker 5: But yeah, the dynamic between the three of them is
- 1:38:17Speaker 5: what makes this movie work.
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: Yeah, it really does. Yeah. And you're absolutely right. We
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: said earlier, like it's just, you know, Monica and Kamala
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: humanize Carol.
- 1:38:26Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: Because she needed a whole lot of that. And by
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: the end, they even give almost.
- 1:38:30Speaker 5: the backstory of, like, why she's been a tool for
- 1:38:32Speaker 5: the last 20 years.
- 1:38:34Speaker 7: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: Like, even in the last movie, they're like, hey, where
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: have you been? Earth's falling apart. I've got other stuff
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: to do, you know. There's other people. So, it always
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: seemed like her just being defensive.
- 1:38:44Speaker 5: Yeah. And, like, so now we know, eh. There's kind
- 1:38:47Speaker 5: of a lot of guilt going on there, too.
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: She's had some major screw-ups.
- 1:38:51Speaker 5: She's made some major screw-ups, and not coming back was
- 1:38:54Speaker 5: her way of dealing with it. Just like, I've got
- 1:38:56Speaker 5: other things to do, and nobody out here knows me,
- 1:38:59Speaker 5: and they don't have to judge me that I did
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: some horrible things. So, yeah, that at least gives her
- 1:39:04Speaker 5: a reason that was more than like, again, she was
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: so not really likable in either of what little she
- 1:39:10Speaker 5: was in the other Avenger movie, but even when she shows.
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: Up, it's just like, yay, you're super-powered, whatever, but... And
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: I think that's one thing that the Marvel writers are
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: learning a bit more is that it's great to have
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: this representation of having strong female characters, but you've also
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: got to have good, well-written ones. She-Hulk kind of ran
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: through the ringer basically almost being too perfect. And so
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: that was kind of a flaw with that show. That's
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: been a major flaw with Carol. But on the flip side,
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: that's why we love Kamala so much. Kamala's amazing. Because
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: she's human.
- 1:39:49Speaker 5: Like she's more human than anybody else out there and
- 1:39:52Speaker 5: yet has these amazing powers too. So it's not even
- 1:39:54Speaker 5: like she doesn't have powers and that's why she taps
- 1:39:57Speaker 5: into that. It's like, no, she has these amazing powers
- 1:40:00Speaker 5: now and maybe even more so with both bands.
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: But she's so human.
- 1:40:05Speaker 5: That it makes her so much more impressive as a
- 1:40:08Speaker 5: hero and just sort of lovable as a character.
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: So Marvel's funny. We're seeing Carol have some issues that
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: show that she's not perfect. We see in the Loki series,
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: Sylvie in the second season makes a lot of... She's
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: got a lot of issues. And I haven't seen the
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: first couple episodes. She's got a lot of issues and
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: has made some big mistakes of things. And to basically
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: accept help from a male character or Whatever else. So
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: it's good that we're finally getting better written female characters
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: as good as their male counterparts. We're just not putting
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: females in strong roles and they have no flaws. No, no, no.
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: You have to have both so we can humanize and
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: relate with you. That's why no one likes Superman because
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: you can't relate to him. We started solid. Black Widow
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: was definitely a flawed character with him. Sketchy backstories.
- 1:41:05Speaker 9: Right.
- 1:41:05Speaker 5: Like, we started pretty solid with her, and I think
- 1:41:08Speaker 5: even Wanda, even at the get-go, like, she was so
- 1:41:13Speaker 5: messed up about her childhood that, like, before she made
- 1:41:16Speaker 5: a full villain turn, essentially, like, she was pretty well
- 1:41:19Speaker 5: fleshed out. So, yeah, we had some good examples, but, yeah,
- 1:41:23Speaker 5: along the way, they were busy trying to put a
- 1:41:25Speaker 5: lot in there, but you can't just throw them in.
- 1:41:28Speaker 5: It's like, you really do need to write solid characters.
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: That's one thing I appreciate so much about Yelena is
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: that Natasha had just as much of a screwed up past,
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: has done a lot of very sketchy, dark things, but
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: Yelena loves her job. She has fun with it. She
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: doesn't have any misconceptions about who she is, what she is,
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: whatever the case may be. Probably doing heroic things will
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: be a little bit different for her, but she's pretty
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: self-actualized about who and what she is. And so that
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: comes off as just Florence Pugh's performance. Again, I can't
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: get enough of her.
- 1:42:08Speaker 5: Casting-wise, that's such a great move because she's awesome in everything.
- 1:42:12Speaker 5: So yeah, to then give her this interesting character. So
- 1:42:15Speaker 5: I do want to see more of her.
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I know. The thing is, the characters we've really
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: started to like, we don't get to see enough of. Yeah.
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:42:24Speaker 5: There's too much. Going on, it's like, can we just
- 1:42:27Speaker 5: focus on the ones we want to see?
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: Yeah. And, man, that's kind of how it goes in
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: the books, too. There's sometimes that Marvel wants to push, oh,
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: we got this new book here to push, and no
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: one cares about that because, like, that's okay. But, well,
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: this book over here that no one's talking about, that's
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: a good book. And so then sometimes those are sleeper
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: hits or whatever else. So, yeah, the movie's going to
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: go that way, too. But, again, we need to get
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: our focus back. We need to get to the point
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: of the story. Well, have we mostly hit all of
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: these things? I think we have.
- 1:43:01Speaker 5: Because if so, then I will throw out. I said
- 1:43:03Speaker 5: I had another part to this interactive thing.
- 1:43:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:43:06Speaker 5: Because I've, as mentioned on this episode, and many lately,
- 1:43:11Speaker 5: had a lot of issues. We've even skipped some superhero
- 1:43:15Speaker 5: movies over the years.
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: So, I don't know.
- 1:43:18Speaker 5: Like... if this one hadn't have had Kamala, I don't
- 1:43:21Speaker 5: know how, I.
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: Don't even know if I would have bothered doing an episode.
- 1:43:24Speaker 5: So that's, that's what I'm asking. I know you're going
- 1:43:27Speaker 5: to go see them all anyway, but like, I don't know.
- 1:43:30Speaker 5: Sometimes if there's ones I'm not that thrilled with, I
- 1:43:33Speaker 5: don't know how much I want to put into it.
- 1:43:34Speaker 5: So I'm asking people listening. If anyone listening, I rarely
- 1:43:39Speaker 5: hear from people. So if you care and want us
- 1:43:41Speaker 5: to keep, Hitting specific ones, bigger tent poles, hit and miss.
- 1:43:46Speaker 5: I don't know. Again, I don't know that I want
- 1:43:48Speaker 5: to do everything across the board, especially whatever the hell
- 1:43:51Speaker 5: DC is doing. It's hit and miss for a lot
- 1:43:55Speaker 5: of stuff in DC land.
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: So, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:43:58Speaker 5: More miss than hit. Well, and even the Sony stuff
- 1:44:02Speaker 5: coming up. I'm looking at those going... I don't care
- 1:44:04Speaker 5: about Venom.
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: I'm not going to get excited about another Venom movie. Well,
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: and the next one's supposed to be Kraven the Hunter. Yeah,
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: I don't think I care about him either.
- 1:44:13Speaker 5: Like, they're doing all these other things, and I'm like,
- 1:44:15Speaker 5: I don't. So I don't really want to do across
- 1:44:18Speaker 5: the board every comic book movie ever made.
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: Well, I mean, Aquaman's coming up right around Christmas time.
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: I can't say I really give two shits about that one.
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: I watched the trailer today, and I was like, yeah,
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: I didn't care the first time. I don't care now either.
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: It kind of looks fun, but it's like... I'm just
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: going to wait for Max.
- 1:44:34Speaker 5: And once again, we've already killed off this whole line.
- 1:44:38Speaker 5: So this is just sort of the death rattle of.
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: And look, we still made another movie. Well, see, that's
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: the confusing thing about the Aquaman shit is because we
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: assume things are done, but, But then we had that
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: horrible Flash movie and Aquaman pops up in there and
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: they drop the whole line of like, oh, well, Aquaman's
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: the same in all universes. So he's like a constant.
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: Is he? So it's like, okay, so does that mean
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: we're not done with Jason Momoa?
- 1:45:06Speaker 5: They just like Momoa and they want a backdoor. We
- 1:45:08Speaker 5: want to keep him in here if we can because
- 1:45:10Speaker 5: he's hot and chicks like him.
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: And the same thing goes for Gal Gadot. Her third
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: movie got tanked. Patty Jenkins got fired. But Gal's still
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: with us. Yeah. Basically, James Gunn and Warner Brothers said, no,
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: we're going to develop another Wonder Woman thing with Gal,
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: but she's still our Wonder Woman.
- 1:45:31Speaker 5: And still same line?
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: Or this new universe just happens to be the same actress?
- 1:45:36Speaker 5: Who knows?
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: At this point, I can give you a large shrug.
- 1:45:39Speaker 9: After 1984... that's got a lot of issues and that's
- 1:45:44Speaker 9: the thing too is that you know basically we've got
- 1:45:46Speaker 9: Aquaman is our next film the DC stuff coming out
- 1:45:49Speaker 9: like I said right around Christmas time.
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: And then really our next DC thing would be James
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: Gunn's Superman Legacy which they've been able to return to
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: production now but that's going to be our next thing
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: we see and that ushers in a whole new universe
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: and new characters or new iterations of characters we've already
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: seen like we're getting a younger Superman yeah So I
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: don't know what that means for the previous rents. Now,
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't think anyone knows what any
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: of this means. The only thing we do know is
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: that Blue Beetle will exist in this new universe because
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: they did connect. The movie is connected within the DC stuff.
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: They've named dropped Batman and a couple other things named
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: dropped in there. But they also kept it separate enough
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: that it can exist on its own.
- 1:46:37Speaker 5: Or we could drop it in over here if we
- 1:46:39Speaker 5: want to.
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: And people seem to like it. So let's do that.
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: And though it didn't do well in the theaters, it
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: was actually well received. It is an enjoyable film. For
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: fans of the old school Blue Beetle, lots of Ted
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: Kord love in there. You get a nice little stinger
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: seeing the shows that Ted Kord stole with us and
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: all that kind of stuff. So there's more potential for
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: that stuff to go on. And we know... James Gunn
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: wants to develop a Booster Gold project, and Booster and
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: Blue Beetle are literally buddy cops joined at the hip,
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: so you can't have one without the other. So, we
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: know there's going to be some sort of future, and
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: Blue Beetle is involved in this, James Gunn and Warner Bros.
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: have said so. So we know he's safe. So if
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: you liked Blue Beetle, you liked, I can't remember the
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: name of the kid's name that was in Cobra Cob,
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: he did a great job. He's still got a job.
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: So if you like Blue Beetle, you like that, you're safe,
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: we're good to go, we're going to see more of him.
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: For the rest of this shit, I don't fucking know.
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: And that's what drives me nuts, is that we're not
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: getting anything. So that's why my status is. I don't know.
- 1:47:47Speaker 5: That's why I said earlier, I want to watch these
- 1:47:48Speaker 5: weird old drive-in movies.
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: Cause I don't know how many of these new ones
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: coming out. I want to see. So I'm fine with
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: us still sitting here.
- 1:47:55Speaker 5: Talking whenever you want, but we might not be talking
- 1:47:58Speaker 5: about superheroes all the time.
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: That's cool.
- 1:48:00Speaker 5: If anybody feels differently, Hey, write in emails on the website,
- 1:48:05Speaker 5: go to movie meltdown.com. Tell me what the hell you think.
- 1:48:07Speaker 5: Cause I don't know. I, I, Otherwise, we're just going
- 1:48:11Speaker 5: to do whatever the hell we want.
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: Damn right.
- 1:48:13Speaker 5: And that's my plan all the time. But I will
- 1:48:15Speaker 5: at least take it into account if anyone out there cares.
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: I just assume nobody does.
- 1:48:20Speaker 5: The one person I know usually does, I just talk
- 1:48:22Speaker 5: to and I'm planning stuff for them.
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: There you go. There you go.
- 1:48:26Speaker 5: If you're cool, we'll interact with you and we'll plan
- 1:48:28Speaker 5: stuff for you too, maybe. So throw it out there.
- 1:48:30Speaker 5: But otherwise, we're just going to do whatever the hell
- 1:48:32Speaker 5: we want.
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: That's right. All right. Anything else to round it out?
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: I think we've covered all the gamut there.
- 1:48:40Speaker 5: Do you want to tell people where to find you
- 1:48:44Speaker 5: when you're not? We had a lull here because I
- 1:48:46Speaker 5: was falling apart. While you were away from here, you
- 1:48:50Speaker 5: still do your own thing. Tell people about that.
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: I got my own podcast, The Fanatic Forum. You can
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: find me on Facebook and YouTube. I go live Friday
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: nights at 7pm. We basically discuss all things geek. I
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: do new comic book reviews every show and then The
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: subject from there changes. So like this past week, we
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: discussed season two of Loki in full. And then my
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: plan for the next few weeks, at least kind of
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: rounding up possibly the end of the year, is I'm
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: going to kind of delve more into deep dives of
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: some of my favorite movies. Maybe you guys have heard
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: of them. Maybe you haven't. So I'm picking some... I
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: like to pick some stuff that's old school and... Sometimes
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: it surprises me because I did a deep dive on
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: one of my favorite 80s film, Streets of Fire. I've
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: discussed that on this show. We've definitely discussed that. Yeah.
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: And when I discussed on my own show, I was
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: surprised the amount of people that are of the proper
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: age that should have been familiar with this movie that weren't. Yeah.
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: It's so hit and miss on that stuff. Yeah. That
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: you never.
- 1:49:55Speaker 5: Well, and then definitely as you get further out, because
- 1:49:58Speaker 5: I was just listening to a show.
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: And like they were.
- 1:50:03Speaker 5: Talking about, again, it's a much older title, but I'm
- 1:50:06Speaker 5: just like they were talking about the Swamp Thing movie
- 1:50:11Speaker 5: like it was the most obscure thing.
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: And I've never heard of it.
- 1:50:15Speaker 5: I'm like, we all grew up with Swamp Thing.
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: What were you like?
- 1:50:18Speaker 5: I know they're of a younger generation, so it just
- 1:50:21Speaker 5: totally over their head.
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: But I'm just like. it's so hit and miss with that.
- 1:50:25Speaker 5: You never know what level of geek they are or
- 1:50:27Speaker 5: just even, even if you're hardcore, sometimes you just miss
- 1:50:30Speaker 5: specific things.
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: So yeah, you just never know what page people are on.
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: So yeah. So I'm, I'm definitely going to try to
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: bring to light, you know, some of my favorite and
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: I'm going to, I'm doing both film and TV because
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: my one TV thing I'm definitely doing is bringing up
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: the glory that is police squad. because many of you
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: guys may be familiar with the airplane films, and you
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: definitely know The Naked Gun, but The Naked Gun came
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: from Police Squad.
- 1:50:58Speaker 5: From the files of Police Squad.
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: A beautiful series that lasted only six episodes. That's what
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: I was going to say. I thought it was only six. Yeah,
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: it was way ahead of its time for television. Movies,
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: you were ready for it, but on TV, we were not.
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: And so it tanked like a mofo, but then they
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: brought it back a few years later in film, and
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: suddenly Leslie Nielsen's a star again. Yeah. But yeah, if
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: you've not seen Police Squad, like I said, six episodes.
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: Especially if you know your old cop shows, they just
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: hit those hard.
- 1:51:36Speaker 5: It was pretty amazing. I feel like they got overdone
- 1:51:39Speaker 5: with the movies. I kind of got sick of... A
- 1:51:42Speaker 5: lot of what was going on, especially later, Leslie Nielsen,
- 1:51:45Speaker 5: where he just beat that horse to death. But, yeah,
- 1:51:48Speaker 5: those early police squad, like, it was still new, and, like,
- 1:51:52Speaker 5: it's still, like, spiraling off of his airplane craziness, and, like,
- 1:51:56Speaker 5: it worked so well.
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: Yeah, the third one I would maybe say was maybe
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: a little too much, but the first two naked guns, definitely. Yeah.
- 1:52:02Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: I mean, granted, I can't be mad at anything Leslie did.
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: Because I grew up loving him so much. So, I mean,
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: I celebrate the man's work even his less than stellar ones.
- 1:52:13Speaker 5: He just got so in that mode that that's all
- 1:52:16Speaker 5: he did the whole last half of his life, basically.
- 1:52:20Speaker 5: To me, it's way more interesting when you go back
- 1:52:22Speaker 5: pre-airplane and see him in legit roles. And he was
- 1:52:26Speaker 5: a villain quite a few times in those early days.
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: Or doing like Forbidden Planet. Or yeah, trying to be
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: a leading man. He's the big hero. It's way more
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: interesting seeing him do that stuff. So I like that
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: older stuff when he's.
- 1:52:40Speaker 5: Like, before he realized that shtick and that's all he
- 1:52:44Speaker 5: did for the rest of his career. I like seeing
- 1:52:46Speaker 5: him still doing other things. That's way more fun for me.
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: To listen to behind the scenes stories of him on
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: the first airplane is, It just gives me such joy
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: because this was like his first opportunity to do a
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: comedic thing. No one ever thought of him. His career
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: is basically over at this point. Yeah. Because he'd gotten older.
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: He wasn't the young leading man anymore. He wasn't going
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: to be, you know, go-to leading man ever again. So
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: who would have thought that would happen, you know? But
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: just the... because it was so funny because you had
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: like him and uh uh peter graves and robert stack
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: in this movie now robert stack got it a little
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: bit he didn't have but peter graves did not get
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: the movie and.
- 1:53:31Speaker 5: In a way that's why it works like it's so
- 1:53:33Speaker 5: funny watching his scenes because it's like he doesn't know
- 1:53:36Speaker 5: he's in that movie like he thinks he's making airport
- 1:53:39Speaker 5: you know it's like he's He's still, like, it's why
- 1:53:42Speaker 5: those are so funny, I feel like.
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: And even after the film was released and years later, like,
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: he just was completely puzzled by the fandom and the
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: popularity of that movie. And he just, he did not
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: get it. But then, like, Leslie, on the other hand, like,
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: made a fart machine out of like pvc pipe but
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: he makes his cup in his hand and make fart
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: noises right around the set doing pranks and stuff like
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: that just having a blast because now he's got this
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: whole new life to his career whether or not he
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: knew this was going to add a whole new facet
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: to it he was just going to have fun on
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: this set the.
- 1:54:16Speaker 5: Fact that it in like ignited that in him you
- 1:54:20Speaker 5: know it's like it had always been there and he
- 1:54:21Speaker 5: had nothing to do with it obviously Because, yeah, I
- 1:54:24Speaker 5: just saw somebody, they were releasing like a super cut
- 1:54:27Speaker 5: because I think when he did press tour for that movie,
- 1:54:30Speaker 5: he took it with him on the talk shows. Yeah.
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: And kept doing it. Yep. He's ridiculous. And that was just,
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: you know. Just how much joy he brought to me
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: watching his movies over the years. Because even Repossessed is
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: a piece of garbage.
- 1:54:48Speaker 5: I've seen that one more than most of them. I
- 1:54:52Speaker 5: saw that in theater. Thank you very much.
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: During the Halloween season, I went looking for it and
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: found it on YouTube. I literally had to buy it
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: for like five bucks. But I now own a digital
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: copy of Repossessed now. You lucky bastard. But it's been
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: out of print for years, and while it's a one-note
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: parody movie making fun of The Exorcist... uh it is
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: did not age.
- 1:55:17Speaker 5: Well well it's also like it's almost a kentucky fried
- 1:55:20Speaker 5: movie because everything is like its own little skit almost
- 1:55:23Speaker 5: in the overarching story but then they'll cut away and
- 1:55:26Speaker 5: it's like there's this thing where we're making fun of
- 1:55:28Speaker 5: jim and tammy and there's this thing we're making about
- 1:55:30Speaker 5: like there's all those timely like remember how much people
- 1:55:33Speaker 5: are into fitness let's do a five minute bit where
- 1:55:36Speaker 5: he goes to a fitness center and i was like
- 1:55:39Speaker 5: this is just its own separate thing.
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: And that's nothing to do with repossessed. But there's a
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: lot of jokes that didn't age well. They were timely.
- 1:55:47Speaker 5: They're all so specific to that moment when they made
- 1:55:50Speaker 5: that move.
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: Yeah. But yeah, so it's bad. But God, it's still,
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: you know, I just love Leslie so much.
- 1:56:01Speaker 4: Yep.
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: So how do we know? We were going to start
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: off talking about You know, Marvel stuff. Marvel and in
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: with Leslie Nielsen. But yeah, that's what basically the next
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: few weeks I'm going to be covering on the Fanatic
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: Forum is delving a little bit more into some of
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: my favorite movies that you may or may not be
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: familiar with. So hopefully if I can get you guys
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: to discover something new, all the better. Yep, that's always good.
- 1:56:23Speaker 5: Finding those missing portions of your geekdom and filling them in.
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: Or just uncovering gems that just need to be, you know,
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: they need to be known more.
- 1:56:35Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:56:35Speaker 5: Well, I'd say otherwise, that about does it.
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: We will return next time.
- 1:56:39Speaker 5: Same geek feed.
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: Thanks for listening. Teaching FN.
