Latest / Kenny Wallace Media / Billy Moyer is Still Winning, Being a Minimalist & a Mole Drowned in My Pool! | Coffee With Kenny
Transcript
- 0:00Happy Wednesday morning, everybody.
- 0:04My voice is a little rough today.
- 0:09Sounds like Kermit the Frog. There's Kim and Aaron.
- 0:13Aaron's a relative of ours, but he works for two men in a spa.
- 0:18Just a coincidence. And he and he cleans the hot tub
- 0:22for us and the swimming pool. He takes care of all that.
- 0:25I ain't got time for that. I don't want to hear how you
- 0:28guys do everything. Well, the reason I don't do all
- 0:32that stuff is because I'm busy. I'm racing my old dirt car.
- 0:37There's Lucy. Lucy.
- 0:39What you doing? Crazy.
- 0:42Anytime. Lucy.
- 0:43She's the guard dog, you know, get your ass out of here.
- 0:48Who are you? OK, A lot on the docket today,
- 0:53so this could go a little over 8 minutes.
- 0:55I don't know, though. First of all, oh, that's wet.
- 0:59Jesus, my ass is soaked. OK, last night something
- 1:07happened. Really inspiring.
- 1:11Billy Moyer and Scott Bloomquist.
- 1:15You know those two names. Those are the Mac daddies of
- 1:18dirt racing in the 80s. Well, Billy Moyer, 67 years old
- 1:24and Billy Moyer had had been still racing here and there.
- 1:29I guess you could say Billy Moyers kind of been getting it
- 1:31out of his system, kind of been weaning his way off racing.
- 1:36Like, you know, Billy's quit. You know, you haven't seen much
- 1:40of him. Yesterday, yesterday, last night
- 1:44in Brownstown, IL for night number one of the summer
- 1:48nationals. Now Billy Moore and Shannon
- 1:50Babb, they are the Mac daddy guys.
- 1:52Those are the guys with like 100 wins last night, Billy Moyer at
- 1:5767 years old. Listen, against Brandon
- 2:01Shepherd, against Turbo, against the greats, against Mike
- 2:07Harrison, Billy Moyer. I mean, up there was 43 of those
- 2:13late miles there. I saw him in the drivers
- 2:16meeting. I saw Billy Moore in the drivers
- 2:18meeting. I said, Billy, you look good.
- 2:19He goes, thank you, harm, But I mean, his face was smooth,
- 2:24standing erect, standing like a soldier.
- 2:27And he just like if you were going to put a sign on him, the
- 2:32sign would say I feel good. He looked peaceful but strong.
- 2:36He sat QuickTime and kicked their ass, lost the lead for a
- 2:40little bit and then drove through the middle and got by
- 2:43Mike Harrison, who is really good there.
- 2:45Mike Harrison got more wins, more laps of that racetrack than
- 2:49God. But anyway, I call Billy Moyer
- 2:52this morning and he answered right away.
- 2:57And I said, Billy, I got to tell you a couple of things.
- 3:00I said, do you Remember Me telling you how good you looked
- 3:03in the driver's meeting? He goes, I do.
- 3:05He goes, I really do. I said OK.
- 3:07And I said you taught me a lifelong lesson.
- 3:11I said years ago at Tri-City Speedway, you came in for a big
- 3:14race and you had a right rear flat and you just let the car
- 3:19idle until they changed it. Most people would go wow, wow,
- 3:23wow, wow. They'd Rev the motor up.
- 3:25They'd be crazy. I said that taught me a lot in
- 3:28life. As hyper as I am, you realize
- 3:34that those boys were changing that tire as quick as they
- 3:37could. And by you, by you revving up
- 3:40the $60,000 motor, it ain't going to help.
- 3:45And I said, you just letting the motor idle while they change the
- 3:48tire taught me so much in life because I'm hyper.
- 3:53And it taught me calm down, Kenny.
- 3:56And then I said, the other thing is, man, you drove like you were
- 3:5920 years old. Billy never dirt tracks the car.
- 4:03He just drives around it like asphalt, like, you know, him and
- 4:06Bloomer made that famous. You know, we lost Scott
- 4:11Bloomquist. But anytime in the 80s, it was
- 4:15always those two names were said in the same sentence, Billy
- 4:20Moyer and Scott Bloomquist. And we sure do miss Bloomer.
- 4:25But I'll tell you what, it was a it was like a dream last night.
- 4:29Actually, I dreamed of Dick Trickle last night.
- 4:32In my dream, I was telling Dick. I said Dick.
- 4:35Yep, What you taught me, I teach the kids nowadays.
- 4:41And then the dream went away. Damn it.
- 4:43That's the part I forgot. What?
- 4:45What did I tell Dick Trickle in my dream?
- 4:48But Dick was always a philosopher and Dick always
- 4:50taught me things. So I take tidbits of information
- 4:54from everybody, even Billy Moyer, even when he doesn't know
- 4:57he's giving it out. So congratulations.
- 5:00Damn, 5 minutes of Billy Moyer this morning and didn't even
- 5:03plan on it. All right, for the real subject,
- 5:07I'm not going to say my, my very good friend's real name, but
- 5:12John is a very smart man and I knew this was coming.
- 5:20John's got a lot of money, but John don't want to spend any of
- 5:23his money and I admire that. So all of a sudden John piped up
- 5:28the other day and said, looked at me right in the face and said
- 5:32I'm going to be a minimalist. I, I kind of laughed at myself
- 5:38and I said that don't surprise me.
- 5:40I knew that was coming. Do you ever know people that got
- 5:43money but they're afraid they're going to live to 100 and they
- 5:47might need it all? That's John.
- 5:50Hey, I'd rather John be like that than to go broke.
- 5:55John is a very smart man, extremely smart, great friend.
- 6:01And he said I'm going to be a minimalist.
- 6:05And I thought to myself, what makes a person become a
- 6:11minimalist? Now let me explain to you what a
- 6:13minimalist is. First of all, the word minimal.
- 6:17Minimal means very little. OK, minimal means very little.
- 6:22You know, just put in the minimal amount, the minimum
- 6:25amount and then you add IST onto it.
- 6:27I'm going to live my life like a minimalist.
- 6:31Everything I do is going to be right sized.
- 6:37That's where I come in. I've right sized my whole life.
- 6:43Oh hell, I could have spent a lot more money.
- 6:45I could have had a lot more things.
- 6:48And did you know this year I have become a minimalist.
- 6:52There's things that I wanted and I told my wife Kim, I said, Kim,
- 6:55this year we are going to we're going to take it easy.
- 6:59We're not, you know, last year I bought her a suburban.
- 7:03I spent a lot of money last year.
- 7:05I didn't acquire things. And when I spent that money last
- 7:08year, I didn't get all this stuff, but I just spent some
- 7:11money last year on good things. But just you know, I spent some
- 7:15money. So this year I said to myself,
- 7:18and I haven't announced it to my family, but I did tell Kim we're
- 7:22going to right size this year. But I've already been right
- 7:25sizing. But this year we're not going to
- 7:27spend money on stupid that get out of here.
- 7:34I'll kick its ass. Another gnat come around me.
- 7:37I'm a kick its ass. And they better know, 'cause I
- 7:39will, I'll kick an ass ass if it's so much comes around me
- 7:42next time. So a minimalist means that you
- 7:46know what? I got money.
- 7:49I'm going to keep it. So I'm going to have very little
- 7:52in my life and it's going to make me happy because I won't
- 7:56have stuff. Check out that that joke by
- 8:00George Carlin. It's a monologue and boy, it's
- 8:03good. It's called stuff.
- 8:06And he's like, what do you got in your attic?
- 8:08Stuff? What's in your basement Stuff,
- 8:12What's in your drawers? Stuff.
- 8:15It's like, it's like when somebody gets ready to move and
- 8:17they're like, oh, we don't have very much stuff.
- 8:19And then you start moving. You're like, holy SH, where did
- 8:22we get all this stuff? Stuff.
- 8:26What is the word stuff? Stuff.
- 8:28It's like, why do I have this stuff like me in my closet?
- 8:34OK, I understand John wanting to be a mentalist and then I'm
- 8:37going to keep an eye on and I'm just, I will never see him being
- 8:40a mentalist, but I'm going to ask him about it.
- 8:43But I want to tell you about me and right sizing.
- 8:45Ashok, Chuck Garr, my CPA accountant, I always tell you
- 8:49he's my life coach. I said, Ashok, I'm going to I'm
- 8:52going to downsize. You know, in America, the word
- 8:55downsize, he's going broke. He's going to downsize.
- 8:59Oh, he's downsizing. He ain't got no money.
- 9:03And I told Ashok, I said I want to downsize.
- 9:05He goes, no, no, my friend in that India accent.
- 9:09No, my friend, you're going to right size.
- 9:14You're going to make things right.
- 9:17And I've told this story before on here and I told it to Kevin
- 9:20Harvick and Harvick, Kevin Hart stared me right in the face.
- 9:23He went, he goes, I like that. So I want to share a story with
- 9:28you about minimalizing and and right sizing.
- 9:32I've told this story before but y'all probably weren't
- 9:34listening. I had a Harley, I had a
- 9:39motorhome, I had an airplane and I had a Rolex watch.
- 9:47Let's start with the motorhome. The motorhome I needed because I
- 9:51was racing and there was 200,000 people in the grandstands and
- 9:55you could not, you could not stay in a hotel because you
- 9:59couldn't leave early enough to get the racetrack.
- 10:00So once you got to the NASCAR tracks, you had to plant
- 10:03yourself there inside the circle because if you left the circle,
- 10:08if you left the racetrack, you you couldn't get back in because
- 10:12it was packed. Try to leave Bush Stadium with
- 10:1630,000 people, 20,000 people. You know, it's funny when people
- 10:20joke, hell, there ain't nobody. There's only 60,000 people.
- 10:23I'm like, OK, dummy, try to leave a racetrack with 60,000
- 10:28people. Listen up, dumb.
- 10:29You sound 60,000 people is a massive amount.
- 10:33A lot of people. That's that's a lot of cars.
- 10:36So anyway, I justified, like Dick Trickle said, as long as
- 10:40you can justify it. I justified having the
- 10:43motorhome. I had an airplane.
- 10:47I justified having the airplane because I had to fly around and
- 10:50do all the Square D appearances, and I couldn't do it with a damn
- 10:54commercial airplane. I bought that Rolex watch, and I
- 10:58bought that at Harley-Davidson because, as Schrader said, now
- 11:02this is a joke. If you want something bad
- 11:04enough, damn it, you must need it.
- 11:08So I realized my career wasn't going where I wanted it to be,
- 11:14and I was. I was making killer money.
- 11:17I was making millions of dollars a year.
- 11:19That's just a little innuendo, but I don't mind telling you
- 11:22because I'm not going to tell you what I made, but I'm going
- 11:23to just tell you I was making millions of dollars per year.
- 11:27And I owned a King Air 200, which was a great airplane, by
- 11:30the way. I owned a beautiful motorhome
- 11:35and I had a motorhome employee who drove it.
- 11:37I had a pilot and I had all these things and it was
- 11:41glorious. And I was not out spending
- 11:43myself. I had plenty of money making all
- 11:46the making, you know, paying everybody.
- 11:50And one day I went to watch my daughter, my daughter's Brandy
- 11:55Brittany. Brooke doesn't like playing
- 11:57sports, but I watched Brandy Brittany, I watch him play
- 12:00softball. And I was really getting into it
- 12:05and I thought to myself, this is what life's all about.
- 12:11This is what life's all about. So I, I decided after talking to
- 12:16Ashok, I'm going to right size and I put my watch up for sale.
- 12:20And then you guys know this Barry Dotson bought it.
- 12:24But I want to tell you a story about that watch.
- 12:26I go to I go to Vegas with that Rolex watch on 10 grand gold,
- 12:31real gold. And I go to the blackjack table
- 12:33and I got that damn Rolex watch on here.
- 12:35And I sit down with some other wealthy people and I'm like, hit
- 12:40me, hit me, split them. And I got that damn watch like
- 12:44this. Nobody said a word.
- 12:47Nobody said a word about that Rolex watch. 10 grand for the
- 12:51watch. It's what it cost.
- 12:53That's just what they cost. They cost way more than that.
- 12:56But mine was just a simple gold Rolex watch.
- 13:00I thought was some bitch. Nobody, nobody told me how
- 13:03awesome I was. So I had these.
- 13:07I was I was I'm a watch collector.
- 13:09I got, oh God, lots of watches. So I get the I get these Fossil
- 13:15watches in the Bahamas. They're $55 watches.
- 13:19I go back to Vegas and this Fossil watch I got.
- 13:22What'd you find there? Oh, my God, watch.
- 13:26Look at this. Everybody, hold on.
- 13:29This is great. What's that called?
- 13:31A mole. A mole.
- 13:32That's what I that's hold on everybody.
- 13:35That's what I saw go in there. The other Oh, my God.
- 13:39So let me see his face. Hold these.
- 13:42He drowned himself. Oh my God.
- 13:45Hey, y'all were making fun of me thinking I was, which I am.
- 13:49Remember the other day I did a coffee with Kenny.
- 13:51I said I think I just saw a frog.
- 13:53I was right. He found it in the skimmer.
- 13:57I'll be damned. So anyway, get him back to the
- 14:00watch. Let me take a drink.
- 14:01Coffee that was that was a highlight of the damn whole
- 14:03coffee with Kenny right there. So anyway, I go back to Vegas
- 14:07with that $55 watch and I'm like, hit me.
- 14:10And I'm not even thinking nothing of it.
- 14:13Some man goes, hey, I like your watch.
- 14:18I'm like, I'll be a mother. See, when you have expensive
- 14:22items, people are jealous and they don't want to give you any
- 14:25approval. They're like, that
- 14:26motherfucker's got money. I hate him, but I but that guy
- 14:30had to know that was a $55 fossil.
- 14:33And he's like, hey, I like your watch.
- 14:37That, my friends, is a life lesson.
- 14:40That is a life lesson. You know, it can go this way
- 14:47with homes, everything, you know, 13 foot ceilings, good
- 14:50crown molding. But does it change if you're if
- 14:55your ceilings are 8 or 9 feet tall and you just got small
- 14:58crown molding? You can't get me.
- 15:00I'm whirly. I've seen all this.
- 15:02I've seen granite floors, I've seen granite countertops.
- 15:07I've seen it all. Look at my house.
- 15:14The problem with this house is that it sits on top of a hill.
- 15:18So because I'm on a hill, everybody goes, oh, look at that
- 15:21house. It's a 2600 square foot home is
- 15:25all it is. But Schrader goes, you got a
- 15:27basement. I'm like Schrader, stop it.
- 15:29But here's what you know, I got a big roof.
- 15:33See, look how big the roof is. So the roof gives this illusion
- 15:39that this house is bigger than what it really is.
- 15:41But when you come into my house, it's just a nice home.
- 15:43I have right sized my life. I sold the airplane, I sold the
- 15:49Rolex watch, I sold that motorcycle and I and I I got rid
- 15:55of my 1963 Chevrolet pickup truck and I'm a cheap ass now
- 16:00look at that. See that, that's, that's what I
- 16:02said. My, that's my daily driver.
- 16:06That, that Suburban right there, that's a 2003 Chevrolet
- 16:10Suburban. That thing got 202,000 miles on
- 16:15it. Now, I could buy a $500,000 car
- 16:18if I wanted to and drive it around town, but all that would
- 16:21do piss people off. Wallace driving his wealthy car
- 16:24around. But you know what?
- 16:26That motherfucker gets me right where I need to get to.
- 16:28I just had Joe Rudy charge air conditioner.
- 16:31It's still leaking the damn plastic Tees for the heater core
- 16:36they broke. We fix that, right?
- 16:38It's getting to where I might have to buy a new vehicle
- 16:40because it's like every every year.
- 16:42But spend 2 grand, that's better than spending 80 grand.
- 16:46Kim's new Suburban was $73,000, but I had no problem buying that
- 16:50because that's for her. She's the queen.
- 16:52See, I always want everybody to have more than me because I'm a
- 16:55leader. That when I tease what you are
- 16:57and I go, I'm a leader. That's it.
- 17:01OK, everybody, my message this morning is it's it's you don't
- 17:06got to be a cheapskate like me. I, I spend money on everybody
- 17:09else. Like I don't mind spending money
- 17:12on 1st class. I'm going to fly first class on
- 17:16a plane because I deserve it. I deserve the wizard in in, you
- 17:22know, premier, you know, rental car.
- 17:26Like like when I go to Avis, I don't do that.
- 17:28Wait in line. Both.
- 17:30No, no right to my car. Mr. Wallace, your car is ready
- 17:33in spot C10. I go to my car, get in and I
- 17:37drive off while the peasants, while all the peasants are in
- 17:41line because they're too dumb to get the app.
- 17:47See, you can act any way you want.
- 17:50You can be a cheap guy. You can be a cheap guy, which
- 17:55I'm cheap, but I'm not waiting in a line for a rental car.
- 18:00I'm going to get the app and I'm going to go straight to my car.
- 18:02And you know, it doesn't cost any more money.
- 18:04It's cheap because I travel a lot.
- 18:07So I've learned. Here's what I've learned in
- 18:08life. It's not about spending money.
- 18:11It's about being streamlined. I know this was long, but it was
- 18:16one hell of a coffee with Kenny and it's a great message.
- 18:20Don't worry about spending money.
- 18:22Streamline your life, make your life easier.
- 18:26Have a great Wednesday, everybody.
