Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's your person thing, Michelle, I guess, and I'm
- 0:06Speaker 1: back gonna keep doing this thing. First, I'm messed up,
- 0:09Speaker 1: reason and I don't really understand because I like to
- 0:12Speaker 1: hurt myself maybe, So yeah, let's let's get into it.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Because I don't really have much to tell you. I'm
- 0:20Speaker 1: recording these, at least these first few episodes pretty early
- 0:26Speaker 1: and like a month before you're actually gonna hear them,
- 0:29Speaker 1: I think, just because I got real excited and I
- 0:33Speaker 1: just started. So whatever is happening currently in your world,
- 0:37Speaker 1: I don't even know about it yet when I'm recording this.
- 0:40Speaker 1: It's amazing. I could be dead, who knows. I hope not,
- 0:45Speaker 1: but you never know anyway, So we're just gonna get
- 0:48Speaker 1: into it, I think. So. Banana Fish Episode two is
- 0:52Speaker 1: called in Another Country, which is also the title of
- 0:55Speaker 1: a short story by Ernest Hemingway, and my notes say
- 0:59Speaker 1: to reference the Wikipedia page, so let me do that.
- 1:02Speaker 1: It's a short story from a short story collection called
- 1:07Speaker 1: Men Without Women that Hemingway published in nineteen twenty seven,
- 1:11Speaker 1: and it deals with World War One soldiers who are
- 1:14Speaker 1: receiving treatment in like Italy, I guess after returning from
- 1:18Speaker 1: the war, but like still during the war. I don't
- 1:21Speaker 1: really think I'm gonna get much more into it than that.
- 1:23Speaker 1: So that's what's the titles about. We're gonna have to
- 1:27Speaker 1: find a better way to kind of work this in.
- 1:30Speaker 1: But starting off the episode, remember last episode we ended
- 1:35Speaker 1: when Agy and Skip were being fucking kidnapped and Ash
- 1:42Speaker 1: was chasing after them on his motorcycle, actually Shorter's motorcycle.
- 1:45Speaker 1: That is okay, So we start. It is night outside,
- 1:50Speaker 1: and we are outside of that bar and all sorts
- 1:54Speaker 1: of folks are being arrested by the cops, obviously, and
- 1:58Speaker 1: Charlie is there and he's either on a phone or
- 2:01Speaker 1: he's on his radio we can't see, and he says Asian,
- 2:05Speaker 1: nineteen years old, name ag Okomoa. And there's also like
- 2:08Speaker 1: an ambulance there and multiple cop cars and stuff like that.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I guess a lot of people got really hurt in
- 2:15Speaker 1: this brawl. And we cut to Shoonnichi, who was looking
- 2:18Speaker 1: super stressed for good reason, and then back to Charlie,
- 2:22Speaker 1: who's still on his phone or whatever, and he says,
- 2:25Speaker 1: send out the squads to find him, and he walks
- 2:27Speaker 1: over to Shunichi and he says, I'm sorry eBay, this
- 2:30Speaker 1: wasn't supposed to happen. This is a really bad idea though, guys,
- 2:34Speaker 1: Shoonichi thinks, don't die on me chan Oh. Then we
- 2:39Speaker 1: cut to an alley with Shorter and two guys, and
- 2:42Speaker 1: Shorter is like, round up some guys and go find Arthur. Go.
- 2:45Speaker 1: And then we cut to that warehouse, the really gorgeous
- 2:48Speaker 1: warehouse that I like so much, and a car is
- 2:52Speaker 1: entering the gates. And then shortly after, but not super
- 2:57Speaker 1: close after, I guess, Ash pulls up to the gate
- 3:00Speaker 1: and he looks into this quiet, abandoned complex and it's
- 3:08Speaker 1: like really blue, like maybe it's blue hour, maybe we're
- 3:11Speaker 1: very close to the sun setting or not. Maybe it's
- 3:14Speaker 1: just an aesthetic choice. It's pretty. And he sees that
- 3:18Speaker 1: a car is parked by one of the buildings in
- 3:21Speaker 1: the warehouse or the warehouses or whatever is going on here,
- 3:25Speaker 1: and he takes off his helmet and walks towards the
- 3:28Speaker 1: buildings and he says, Arthur, I know you're here, show yourself.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And Arthur very casually walks out of a building that's
- 3:36Speaker 1: a bit away from him, and he says, what's up, boss?
- 3:40Speaker 1: You know this is a trap, right as they would
- 3:43Speaker 1: say in Windbreaker, so honest, he continues, why'd you come?
- 3:51Speaker 1: And then I just wrote, God, damn it, this is
- 3:53Speaker 1: such a beautiful warehouse. The problem here is the compositing
- 3:57Speaker 1: is not very good because we have this like intense
- 4:01Speaker 1: blue landscape, and then the characters are just colored normally.
- 4:06Speaker 1: It happens. Not everybody is good at like color compositing.
- 4:10Speaker 1: It's no big deal, but I noticed it, so I
- 4:12Speaker 1: felt like I should point it out and ruin the
- 4:14Speaker 1: scene for you. Anyway, Ash says, I knew we'd have
- 4:18Speaker 1: to settle things eventually. Where's Skip? And Arthur says, hate
- 4:22Speaker 1: to break it to you, but it's not just about
- 4:23Speaker 1: us anymore. And then like a metal like garage type
- 4:28Speaker 1: gate door opens sort of I don't know what this
- 4:31Speaker 1: is called. It like rolls up, you know, the kind
- 4:34Speaker 1: that would be out in front of a storefront, kind
- 4:36Speaker 1: of like that, and we see two guys and they
- 4:40Speaker 1: have AG and Skip and Skip's like Ash. And also
- 4:44Speaker 1: their hands are tied, which is smart, and Marvin is
- 4:47Speaker 1: there and he says welcome, Ash links and Ash is
- 4:51Speaker 1: surprised to see him, and he's like, so that's what's up?
- 4:55Speaker 1: Being tamed? Like the old man's dog. That's low even
- 4:57Speaker 1: for you, Arthur. And Arthur's like, you're always too soft.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Drop the gun and we see that Ash has his
- 5:05Speaker 1: hand on the gun that is behind his back, like
- 5:08Speaker 1: in his pants. I don't think you're supposed to keep
- 5:10Speaker 1: a gun there because you've can hurt yourself, but whatever,
- 5:13Speaker 1: and Skip's like, don't do it. They'll kill you, and
- 5:16Speaker 1: Ash says let them go, and Arthur walks over to
- 5:20Speaker 1: Ag and it's kind of standing over him and is like, Ash,
- 5:23Speaker 1: who's this boy? And Ag looks terrified and like rightfully so,
- 5:28Speaker 1: and Arthur continues, I heard that Skip stood up for him,
- 5:32Speaker 1: and Skip's like, keep your hands off echean And the
- 5:35Speaker 1: guy that was supposed to be holding Skip, I guess
- 5:37Speaker 1: had let go of him for a second, so he's
- 5:39Speaker 1: like hey, and he grabs Skip back and Arthur says
- 5:42Speaker 1: kill him, and AG's like what And one of the
- 5:48Speaker 1: guys puts his gun to AG's head and Ag flinches
- 5:53Speaker 1: and gasps and kind of waits, and then Ash says
- 5:58Speaker 1: wait and makes the gun out of his pants and
- 6:02Speaker 1: he throws it at them and it kind of slides
- 6:04Speaker 1: across the ground towards them, and he says, you and
- 6:07Speaker 1: your ways disgust me, and Ag is maybe surprised to
- 6:11Speaker 1: be saved, and Arthur kind of like Chuckles and he
- 6:14Speaker 1: walks towards Ash and he says, what an admirable boss
- 6:19Speaker 1: looking out for his boys, and then he punches Ash
- 6:22Speaker 1: in the face and he says, it's time to pay
- 6:25Speaker 1: you back for my fingers. Dude, your fingers look so cool.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Stop it. He did you a favor, and then we
- 6:33Speaker 1: go to the opening theme. Oh my god, yay. So
- 6:37Speaker 1: a couple of notes about the opening theme already told
- 6:39Speaker 1: you what it was last episode, so I won't go
- 6:43Speaker 1: back through that. But when I listened to it in
- 6:45Speaker 1: this episode, I went, oh, my god, I know this
- 6:48Speaker 1: song because I happened to listen to random anime music
- 6:54Speaker 1: on Spotify, and I guess in twenty eighteen, this was
- 6:59Speaker 1: playing a lot in one of those anime mixes that
- 7:03Speaker 1: Spotify does. So I actually had it in like my
- 7:07Speaker 1: favorites for a really long time, and eventually I took
- 7:09Speaker 1: it out because I was like, I don't even know
- 7:11Speaker 1: what that song is from, so I was like super
- 7:13Speaker 1: surprised to hear it and be like, oh, it's from
- 7:15Speaker 1: Banana Fish. So now you know something that absolutely made
- 7:20Speaker 1: no difference to anything. So in the opening, we see
- 7:24Speaker 1: like shots of New York and Ash on like a train,
- 7:26Speaker 1: like lots of Ash, and then shots of like Agy
- 7:29Speaker 1: and characters we don't know, and maybe like a fight
- 7:32Speaker 1: scene and ag running. You know, it's a pretty typical opening.
- 7:37Speaker 1: I think it's pretty good. Is it my favorite opening
- 7:39Speaker 1: of all time? Of course not, but it's good. So
- 7:42Speaker 1: back from the opening, Ash is thrown on the ground
- 7:46Speaker 1: and he has his hands behind his back and he's
- 7:48Speaker 1: really beat up, and he just says, like shit, and
- 7:52Speaker 1: we see that they are in I guess one of
- 7:54Speaker 1: the warehouses, and it has like lights, like work lights
- 7:58Speaker 1: hanging overhead, which I thought was really interesting because I
- 8:01Speaker 1: thought that these were abandoned, so why do they have power?
- 8:05Speaker 1: So maybe they're not abandoned, they're just taking like real
- 8:07Speaker 1: shit care of or maybe they have a generator. I
- 8:11Speaker 1: don't know, but it bothers me. Anyway. Continuing, Marvin says,
- 8:16Speaker 1: be a good boy now, and he's standing over Ash
- 8:19Speaker 1: and he says, you know, there's no use disobeying Poppatino. Oh,
- 8:23Speaker 1: I want to point out that it looks like Marvin
- 8:26Speaker 1: is having a really good time during all of this,
- 8:28Speaker 1: and he lifts Ash up by the front of his
- 8:31Speaker 1: shirt and he says, what did that man give to you? Huh?
- 8:36Speaker 1: And Ash just fucking spits in his face. Yes, and
- 8:40Speaker 1: he drops him awesome, And while Marvin is like trying
- 8:46Speaker 1: to wipe the spit off of his face, Arthur cuts
- 8:48Speaker 1: in and is like, I don't know what you're after,
- 8:50Speaker 1: but if you want him to talk, you should just
- 8:52Speaker 1: cut off their ears. What the fuck, Arthur, that's not nice.
- 8:57Speaker 1: And Marvin's like, he's made a fool of me for
- 9:00Speaker 1: the last time. Let me enjoy myself a bit, and
- 9:03Speaker 1: he starts to unbuckle his belt and Ash is smiling
- 9:08Speaker 1: pretty slyly and he says, oh my, is someone getting
- 9:12Speaker 1: a little horny. It's okay. I was thinking that too, Ash.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I totally understand because it was implied. But Marvin then
- 9:21Speaker 1: snaps his belt tight, thank god, and is like, don't
- 9:25Speaker 1: you cry now, Ash and whips him. Ah, he's just
- 9:29Speaker 1: gonna get physically maimed. It's fine, guys, Everything's fine. So
- 9:34Speaker 1: we cut away from Ash being whipped and we go
- 9:39Speaker 1: to a dark room where Ag and Skipp are being held.
- 9:44Speaker 1: This is so much guys, why did I do this?
- 9:49Speaker 1: And the door opens and two guys like throw Ash
- 9:52Speaker 1: in and he kind of falls to the ground and
- 9:54Speaker 1: they leave, and he looks really pretty bad because he's
- 9:58Speaker 1: just been whipped by a belt. Ag of course, is like,
- 10:01Speaker 1: are you okay? And Ash sits up and he's wincing
- 10:06Speaker 1: and he's like, damn it, don't touch me. That hurts.
- 10:10Speaker 1: And we see that his arm is all cut up,
- 10:12Speaker 1: like he's got a really big gash on his right
- 10:14Speaker 1: arm and he's holding it. And at this point, Ag
- 10:17Speaker 1: whips the bottom of his shirts and says, give me
- 10:20Speaker 1: your arm, and Ash is like what and Ag starts
- 10:24Speaker 1: to just wrap his shirt around ashes wound, and he says,
- 10:28Speaker 1: we need to stop the bleeding, and he's tying it
- 10:30Speaker 1: and he says, thanks for saving my life and Ash says,
- 10:35Speaker 1: you might wish I didn't. It doesn't look like they're
- 10:38Speaker 1: gonna let us die so easily. Now. Oh good. Then
- 10:42Speaker 1: I guess we cut to sometime a little later because
- 10:45Speaker 1: it kind of looks like they're partially sleeping, and then
- 10:48Speaker 1: the door opens and it's Marvin yay, and Marvin says
- 10:54Speaker 1: how you feeling Ash? And Ash says, what are you
- 10:58Speaker 1: gonna do, and Marvin's like that all depends on you.
- 11:02Speaker 1: If you behave, I could put in a good word
- 11:04Speaker 1: with Papa. Nash thinks for a second and then sighs
- 11:08Speaker 1: and says, I want to talk to you in private,
- 11:13Speaker 1: and Marvin says sure, and then he turns to Arthur
- 11:17Speaker 1: and the rest of the crew and says, you guys
- 11:20Speaker 1: get out, and Arthur's like, you're not gonna let him go,
- 11:24Speaker 1: and Marvin takes a puff of his cigarette and says,
- 11:28Speaker 1: who do you think you're talking to? Papadino? Put me
- 11:31Speaker 1: in charge, and Arthur's like, you backstabber, and he tries
- 11:36Speaker 1: to lunch for him, but these two guys like stop
- 11:39Speaker 1: him and pull him away. And as they are pulling
- 11:42Speaker 1: him away and the scene is continuing, we're just in
- 11:44Speaker 1: the background hearing Arthur still yell stuff he's hissed, and
- 11:49Speaker 1: then this other guy says, hey, you can have your fun,
- 11:52Speaker 1: but don't forget your job, and Marvin's like, I know,
- 11:55Speaker 1: get lost, and the door closes, leaving them alone with
- 11:59Speaker 1: just Marvin, and Skip turns to Age and quietly says
- 12:04Speaker 1: he's gay and he likes Ash. What now, hold on
- 12:09Speaker 1: for a second in the manga, I appreciate the translation better.
- 12:12Speaker 1: I actually think that this is closer to what Skip
- 12:15Speaker 1: said because I can hear the word gay. But in
- 12:18Speaker 1: the manga the translation is just he want to fuck
- 12:21Speaker 1: the boss, which is more straight to the point and
- 12:25Speaker 1: makes more sense with Age's reaction, which is to blush
- 12:29Speaker 1: and say eh, and Skip shushes him. This is a problem, guys,
- 12:35Speaker 1: All of this is a problem. So Marvin to Ash
- 12:38Speaker 1: says so what now, Wow, this is a hard episode
- 12:42Speaker 1: to do. So Ash then runs his fingers up his
- 12:46Speaker 1: chest and says, not in front of them, Oh, take
- 12:51Speaker 1: me somewhere we can be alone. And he uh looks
- 12:58Speaker 1: at Marvin in a way that is that he knows
- 13:01Speaker 1: what Marvin wants and he's totally going to give it
- 13:05Speaker 1: to him. And I recognized this smile from the prequel
- 13:12Speaker 1: one shot, and of course I only recognized it when
- 13:16Speaker 1: I was watching it the second time, and it just
- 13:17Speaker 1: totally upset me. But anyway, he's really trying to sell this, folks,
- 13:25Speaker 1: And I actually want to congratulate whoever did the key
- 13:29Speaker 1: animation or the storyboards or whatever they did for this
- 13:32Speaker 1: part did a really good job, I guess. Anyway, this
- 13:40Speaker 1: is happening. Marvin kind of chuckles great, and Ag is
- 13:45Speaker 1: still pretty flustered, and he's like, you're kidding, and Skip says,
- 13:49Speaker 1: be quiet. Ash winces and is like, my ribs are broken,
- 13:54Speaker 1: could you help me up? And Marvin's like, my poor baby,
- 13:59Speaker 1: And he will walk over to Ash and he puts
- 14:01Speaker 1: his arm around him and he says, I'll take good
- 14:04Speaker 1: care of you afterwards, and he lifts them up and
- 14:08Speaker 1: somehow I didn't really understand with the choreography here, but
- 14:12Speaker 1: Ash manages to like shove him and hit him in
- 14:15Speaker 1: the back and he's like, I'll be counting on that,
- 14:17Speaker 1: and he slams him in the back of the neck
- 14:19Speaker 1: with his hand or his fist or whatever that he did.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I didn't write it down, and Marvin is down. He's out,
- 14:25Speaker 1: thank god. And Skip's like, you did it, boss, I
- 14:29Speaker 1: knew you would. And Ash is like, let's get out
- 14:32Speaker 1: of here, and Skip says yeah. AG to himself thinks,
- 14:36Speaker 1: how does he do it? I prefer the manga translation
- 14:38Speaker 1: where he's just like this guy is too cool, but
- 14:41Speaker 1: I don't know which one is correct, so you get both.
- 14:44Speaker 1: They then run out of the warehouse. There were these
- 14:48Speaker 1: folks who were supposed to be, you know, keeping guard,
- 14:50Speaker 1: and they're kind of around like a campfire almost, and
- 14:52Speaker 1: they're playing cards, so they're not not really paying attention.
- 14:57Speaker 1: But then of course, as they round the corner, one
- 15:00Speaker 1: of the guys turns and sees them and he's like,
- 15:03Speaker 1: they're getting away. And then Ash, Agy and Skip run
- 15:08Speaker 1: down this really weird computer animated alley that I didn't
- 15:12Speaker 1: understand why it was computer animated, but they just really
- 15:16Speaker 1: wanted to for some reason. And then they turn a
- 15:19Speaker 1: corner and then they come to a gigantic brick wall
- 15:23Speaker 1: that's gotta be like four stories high and it has
- 15:27Speaker 1: razor wire at the top. Yay, and Age's like a
- 15:30Speaker 1: dead end and Skip says, shit, we came so far.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Ash is staring at the wall with resolve and he thinks,
- 15:38Speaker 1: I'll hand it over and free these two. Ag kind
- 15:41Speaker 1: of stares at the wall for a second and he
- 15:42Speaker 1: takes a deep breath and he reaches for a metal
- 15:45Speaker 1: pipe that is affixed to the wall and it's like
- 15:49Speaker 1: screwed to it and stuff, so this is not easy.
- 15:52Speaker 1: He's starting to try to pull it off the wall
- 15:55Speaker 1: and Skip is like, wow, I didn't think you had
- 15:57Speaker 1: it anyway. Chan. At this point, the metal pipe finally
- 16:01Speaker 1: like pops off the wall and because of the force,
- 16:05Speaker 1: Ag falls over, and Skip's like, I'm really starting to
- 16:09Speaker 1: like you. And he grabs a piece of wood off
- 16:11Speaker 1: the ground and he's like, I'm gonna put up a
- 16:13Speaker 1: fight too, and AG's like, it's not that I'm gonna
- 16:16Speaker 1: jump over and Skip says what, and Ash's like, are
- 16:21Speaker 1: you out of your mind? Yeah? It sounds kind of weird,
- 16:25Speaker 1: and Ag is like digging a little spot in the
- 16:28Speaker 1: dirt with the pipe and stuff, like getting it ready,
- 16:31Speaker 1: and he's like, I've jumped over higher walls in Japan.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I'm a pole vaulter. Oh, he is cool. That is
- 16:38Speaker 1: not what I expected. And Ash is like, are you crazy?
- 16:41Speaker 1: If the pipe breaks, you're dead, and Skip says, yeah,
- 16:45Speaker 1: it's not like there's a man on the other side.
- 16:48Speaker 1: And AG's like, then, are we just gonna die here?
- 16:51Speaker 1: Ash and Skip just kind of stare at him for
- 16:53Speaker 1: a second, and AG continues, if I'm gonna die anyways,
- 16:57Speaker 1: at least I try, yeah, Ag and Ash looks shocked,
- 17:03Speaker 1: and AG backs up and we hear a guy off
- 17:06Speaker 1: screen a bit away say they're here this way, and
- 17:10Speaker 1: Ag exhales and he runs forward and he thinks, don't
- 17:16Speaker 1: you break on me, and he hits that divid in
- 17:18Speaker 1: the ground that he made and he vaults over the
- 17:22Speaker 1: wall and Ash watches him in total astonishment as he
- 17:28Speaker 1: sails over the razor wire in slow motion, and I
- 17:33Speaker 1: think this is probably the spot where Ash falls for him.
- 17:36Speaker 1: But anyway, Skip starts like jumping up and down and
- 17:39Speaker 1: he's like, wow, he flew. And then they hear this
- 17:42Speaker 1: horrible crash from the other side, and Skiff's like, I
- 17:45Speaker 1: knew it. And Ash and Skip turn and they see
- 17:50Speaker 1: that the guys are like right behind them now, and
- 17:52Speaker 1: we cut to Ag who has fallen in a bunch
- 17:55Speaker 1: of wood crates and he's trying to stand up and
- 17:59Speaker 1: it looks real bad and his right arm is bleeding
- 18:03Speaker 1: kind of in the same spot that Ashes was, and
- 18:06Speaker 1: we see that there's a piece of glass in it. Yay,
- 18:08Speaker 1: and he pulls it out, which you shouldn't do because
- 18:11Speaker 1: it makes it worse, and he stands and then takes
- 18:14Speaker 1: off running and he's just like, shit, hang on, I'll
- 18:17Speaker 1: be right back. We cut back and Ash is being
- 18:20Speaker 1: slammed into a wall by Marvin, of course, and Skip
- 18:24Speaker 1: is on the ground. He looks like he's been beat
- 18:27Speaker 1: the fuck out of and Marvin says, where'd you hide
- 18:30Speaker 1: that punk? And Ash says he flew like a bird
- 18:34Speaker 1: and Marvin says, asshole, and he punches Ash in the
- 18:37Speaker 1: face and Ash falls on the ground and lands near
- 18:40Speaker 1: Skip and Marvin's like, you're done now, I'm gonna kill you.
- 18:44Speaker 1: And one of the guys like, how are you going
- 18:46Speaker 1: to clean this mess up? And Arthur says, yeah, this
- 18:49Speaker 1: wouldn't happen if you didn't try to have your way
- 18:51Speaker 1: with him, and Marvin thinks to himself for a second,
- 18:53Speaker 1: and he says, we got to relocate. I'll take care
- 18:56Speaker 1: of him there, and then we cut to I guess
- 18:59Speaker 1: maybe a haul of a building. I couldn't really tell
- 19:01Speaker 1: what was going on here, and Shorter is with this
- 19:04Speaker 1: guy and Shorter has a knife to his neck the
- 19:07Speaker 1: wharf on the East River, and Shorter flips the knife
- 19:10Speaker 1: around really skillfully. It's nice animation here, and hits the
- 19:14Speaker 1: guy in the neck with the handle and the guy's
- 19:16Speaker 1: out and Shorter says, good boy, back to age who
- 19:21Speaker 1: were not actually seeing. We are in first person perspective
- 19:24Speaker 1: as he is walking down the streets and he's thinking,
- 19:28Speaker 1: I have to hurry and let them know, and people
- 19:30Speaker 1: are staring at him as he limps past them. We
- 19:34Speaker 1: are still in first person perspective for a minute, but
- 19:36Speaker 1: he's clearly limping. Then we cut out a first person
- 19:39Speaker 1: perspective and his arm is like really bleeding a lot
- 19:42Speaker 1: because he took the glass out, and he looks real
- 19:46Speaker 1: fucking weak, and he thinks hurry, and he sees a
- 19:52Speaker 1: woman talking on her cell phone and he says, can
- 19:55Speaker 1: I use that? People are about to be killed. He
- 19:58Speaker 1: reaches out to her and his hand is just covered
- 20:00Speaker 1: in blood from his arm, and the woman screams and
- 20:04Speaker 1: like drops her phone and AG manages to catch it,
- 20:07Speaker 1: and she's like, murderer, Someone call the police. AG has
- 20:10Speaker 1: the phone and he starts to dial some number, and
- 20:13Speaker 1: he kind of under his breath says, yeah, go get
- 20:15Speaker 1: the cops for me, and then the phone trills and
- 20:20Speaker 1: AG says, hello, City police headquarters. Please. As he's on
- 20:25Speaker 1: the phone, we have a shot of like the sidewalk
- 20:27Speaker 1: and his you know, one of his feets and blood
- 20:30Speaker 1: is just dripping from his arm onto his shoe and
- 20:33Speaker 1: on the sidewalk, and he says please hurry, and then
- 20:37Speaker 1: a person over the line says, police headquarters, how can
- 20:40Speaker 1: I help you? And Ag leans against the wall and
- 20:44Speaker 1: we see behind him a little bit away that lady,
- 20:47Speaker 1: the one who just accidentally gave him her cellphone, She
- 20:50Speaker 1: is talking to like two cops and she says over there,
- 20:54Speaker 1: and the cops run towards Ag as he is sliding
- 20:57Speaker 1: down the wall, and the person on the other line
- 21:01Speaker 1: of the phone says hello, and Ag collapses just as
- 21:06Speaker 1: the cops reach him. We cut to the exterior of
- 21:09Speaker 1: a big white building that doesn't look like it's in
- 21:12Speaker 1: New York, but I thought it was cool, and we
- 21:15Speaker 1: hear a voice say Charlie, eBay, this way. It's Jenkins,
- 21:19Speaker 1: and he continues they've just finished dressing him Room two
- 21:22Speaker 1: o eight. Okay, it's a hospital. Shunichi thanks him and
- 21:27Speaker 1: takes off down the hall and Charlie is about to follow,
- 21:29Speaker 1: but Jenkins stops him and he says wait, Charlie. Agy
- 21:32Speaker 1: says there's gonna be trouble at the East River wharf,
- 21:35Speaker 1: and Charlie says, is it ash and Jenkins is like yeah.
- 21:39Speaker 1: And what's more interesting, it seems Marvin Crosby is also
- 21:43Speaker 1: taking part in this jew Charlie looks really surprised, and
- 21:46Speaker 1: he's like, do you know Goalziane's guy? What the hell
- 21:49Speaker 1: did Ash do? Jenkins sits and says, and I looked
- 21:53Speaker 1: into the suicide cases. They were all guys who were
- 21:56Speaker 1: associated with syndicates that are a war with Golzeine. Charlie,
- 22:00Speaker 1: he kind of whistles. I can't do a whistle, so
- 22:02Speaker 1: you're gonna just have to believe me. And then we
- 22:05Speaker 1: cut to Agi, who is in a hospital bed and
- 22:07Speaker 1: Shoonichi is next to him, and Shunichi says, I'm glad
- 22:11Speaker 1: you're safe, and Agi, who looks like he's getting a
- 22:14Speaker 1: blood transfusion of a positive blood so now we know
- 22:19Speaker 1: his blood type, says I'm sorry for making you worry,
- 22:22Speaker 1: but to be honest, I want to go back right now.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Ash saved my life by putting his own life in danger.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Skip two. He could have got away if it wasn't
- 22:31Speaker 1: for me. I feel terrible. I only got in their way.
- 22:35Speaker 1: And he grips the sheets really tightly and he says
- 22:38Speaker 1: I couldn't do anything, and Shunichi says, that's not true.
- 22:43Speaker 1: We know where they are because of you. The cops
- 22:45Speaker 1: will save them, trust me. When we cut back to
- 22:47Speaker 1: the warehouse and a car backs up to the door
- 22:52Speaker 1: of the warehouse and Marvin says, okay, let's go for
- 22:55Speaker 1: a ride now. No, don't go to a second location.
- 22:58Speaker 1: That's how you die and they never find you. Ash says,
- 23:03Speaker 1: Skip has nothing to do with this, let him go.
- 23:07Speaker 1: And Skip's like Ash, and Marvin says, not so fast.
- 23:11Speaker 1: It doesn't seem like you want to join the party,
- 23:13Speaker 1: so we'll have this little brat dance for us instead.
- 23:16Speaker 1: What the fuck, dude? And Ash and Skip gasps simultaneously
- 23:21Speaker 1: and Skip looks terrified, me too, man, And Ash is
- 23:25Speaker 1: like no, and Marvin says, take him. And one of
- 23:30Speaker 1: the guys grabs Ash's arm and starts to pull him away,
- 23:33Speaker 1: and Ashes like shit, let me go. When he's struggling Skip,
- 23:37Speaker 1: this guy is trying to get Ash into the car
- 23:40Speaker 1: and Ash says, get your hands off me, and then
- 23:43Speaker 1: they hear a commotion. It's a bunch of street punks. Yay, finally,
- 23:48Speaker 1: And remember that guy from bar Alex that I didn't
- 23:50Speaker 1: even tell you what he looks like. He just looks
- 23:52Speaker 1: like a non descript guy. He is brown hair, he's
- 23:55Speaker 1: a white guy. And he says, Arthur, where are you,
- 23:57Speaker 1: you backstabber? And he like, is a guy out awesome?
- 24:01Speaker 1: And Shorter's there and he's like running across some shipping
- 24:04Speaker 1: containers holding a pipe and he says, Ash Skip, where
- 24:07Speaker 1: are you? And he jumps down and he kicks some dude,
- 24:10Speaker 1: and Arthur says Shorter and one of the guys, the
- 24:14Speaker 1: bad guys, raises his gun and is like, it's bedtime,
- 24:17Speaker 1: you punks, but Ash slams into him right as he shoots,
- 24:20Speaker 1: throwing his aim way off and knocking him down. And
- 24:24Speaker 1: unfortunately that was enough to also knock Ash down because
- 24:27Speaker 1: he is not okay, so he's just on the ground
- 24:30Speaker 1: now too, but he manages to call out, watch out,
- 24:33Speaker 1: Dino's guys are here, and now a bunch of guys
- 24:36Speaker 1: are shooting at the punks and they run for cover,
- 24:39Speaker 1: and we cut to Shorter and Alex and Bones, who
- 24:43Speaker 1: is another person in the gang who has longer hair
- 24:46Speaker 1: in a ponytail but also just kind of looks like
- 24:49Speaker 1: a dude, and they are ducking behind a shipping container
- 24:52Speaker 1: and Shorter is like, that was Ash's voice, He's right
- 24:55Speaker 1: here somewhere, And then there's a police side and one
- 25:01Speaker 1: of Arthur's guys is like, shit, the cops and Arthur's like,
- 25:04Speaker 1: damn it that Asian rats squealed, Yes he did, and
- 25:07Speaker 1: they run off and Marvin is like, I'll get you
- 25:11Speaker 1: for this, and of course he is looking at Ash,
- 25:14Speaker 1: who is sitting next to the car. He hasn't been
- 25:16Speaker 1: able to get up yet, and this catches Ash's attention
- 25:20Speaker 1: and he looks over to see Marvin is pointing a
- 25:23Speaker 1: gun right at him, and Marvin says, I wasn't gonna
- 25:27Speaker 1: let you die this easily. Ash is kind of staring
- 25:31Speaker 1: him down, and Marvin pulls the trigger slowly. Skip manages
- 25:36Speaker 1: to get away from the guy who's holding him and
- 25:38Speaker 1: just says Ash, and Marvin turns and shoots Skip twice
- 25:43Speaker 1: in the chest. Ash gasps and manages to get to
- 25:48Speaker 1: his feet and says Skipper and runs to him and
- 25:51Speaker 1: he grabs him. He says, hey, Skipper, no, don't die,
- 25:55Speaker 1: and he's kind of shaking him, and Skip opens his
- 25:58Speaker 1: eyes and he is crying. Ash says, you can't don't die,
- 26:05Speaker 1: and Skip kind of gasps, and then the light fades
- 26:10Speaker 1: from his eyes as tears stream down his face. Ash
- 26:18Speaker 1: looks destroyed and he stands and says Marvin, he turns
- 26:24Speaker 1: towards him, she bastard. At this point, the cops finally arrive.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Thanks guys, and Marvin gets into his car and Ash
- 26:34Speaker 1: is like, you're dead, Marvin, and he kind of tries
- 26:37Speaker 1: to catch him, but Marvin speeds off before he can
- 26:39Speaker 1: get there. And there's another car there too, and one
- 26:42Speaker 1: of the guys is about to get in it, and
- 26:44Speaker 1: Ash is like, out of my way, and he kicks
- 26:46Speaker 1: the guy down because remember his hands are still tied
- 26:48Speaker 1: so he can't punch him. And he gets in the
- 26:50Speaker 1: car and he starts it and the door is still
- 26:52Speaker 1: open even and Shorter is running towards the car and
- 26:55Speaker 1: he's like, no, Ash, don't and Ash just peels off
- 26:59Speaker 1: and Shorter is like and we hear Charlie say Shorter,
- 27:03Speaker 1: and he runs up from behind him and he says
- 27:04Speaker 1: where's Ash? And Jenkins is here too. Now. Shorter's like,
- 27:08Speaker 1: what took you so long? He went after them? And
- 27:12Speaker 1: Jenkins is like what? And we cut to Marvin, who
- 27:16Speaker 1: is driving his car and he's like, shit, why is
- 27:19Speaker 1: this happening? Why Marvin? Why is it happening? Gee? I
- 27:23Speaker 1: don't know? And Ash is fairly close behind him, and
- 27:27Speaker 1: then we cut to do Youno in his mansion on
- 27:30Speaker 1: the phone and he says, I see he's gonna be
- 27:33Speaker 1: that stubborn. It can't be helped. I'll take care of it.
- 27:37Speaker 1: He puts down the phone and says, I see you
- 27:40Speaker 1: can't tame a Linx. They'll never make good pets for real, dude.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Then we see Ash driving that car and I guess
- 27:49Speaker 1: he stops and he starts to tear the tape that
- 27:52Speaker 1: is around his wrists off with his teeth and he
- 27:56Speaker 1: gets out of the car and he's in front of
- 27:58Speaker 1: an apartment complex and Marvin's car is parked out in
- 28:02Speaker 1: front of it too, and he's like, he's in there somewhere.
- 28:07Speaker 1: He walks inside. I guess they don't really have security,
- 28:10Speaker 1: and up some stairs and he's in a hallway and
- 28:15Speaker 1: he cautiously looks around a corner and he notices that
- 28:18Speaker 1: the door to Marvin's apartment is open. He pushes the
- 28:22Speaker 1: door further open and walks inside down a dark kind
- 28:26Speaker 1: of center hallway that doesn't have windows, and he thinks
- 28:30Speaker 1: this doesn't feel right. He looks around a corner and
- 28:35Speaker 1: slowly opens the door inside the room is very dimly lit.
- 28:40Speaker 1: It's daytime, but the blinds are down, so we just
- 28:44Speaker 1: have a little bit of light filtering in through them,
- 28:46Speaker 1: so it's hard to see what's there. But Marvin is
- 28:50Speaker 1: there sitting on a chair dead, looks like he has
- 28:54Speaker 1: been shot in the chest and blood is dripping from
- 28:56Speaker 1: his mouth. He's got a very pained expression on his
- 29:00Speaker 1: dead face. Good Ash looks at the floor and there
- 29:06Speaker 1: is a discarded gun near him, and he says shit.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Then we hear footsteps moving somewhere else in the apartment
- 29:15Speaker 1: and police rush in and they raise their guns at
- 29:18Speaker 1: Ash and one of them says police freeze and Ash
- 29:22Speaker 1: looks totally shocked, because he should be. And we cut
- 29:26Speaker 1: two outside and there's a couple of cop cars and
- 29:28Speaker 1: cops out there, and we hear Ash say, oh that hurts,
- 29:32Speaker 1: damn it. Then back to the apartment, a couple of
- 29:34Speaker 1: cops are holding him and the first cop says, don't move,
- 29:37Speaker 1: and ashe's like, listen to me, and Charlie comes in
- 29:41Speaker 1: and he's like Ash. And Ash looks over at Charlie
- 29:44Speaker 1: and Jenkins in the doorway, and Charlie's like did you
- 29:49Speaker 1: And Ash's like I didn't kill him. He was dead
- 29:51Speaker 1: when I got here, and a cop from behind them
- 29:54Speaker 1: in the hallway says, don't lie, and Jenkins is like
- 29:57Speaker 1: Evan Stein. And Evan Stein the hallway cop, who I
- 30:01Speaker 1: guess is a detective of some sort because he's not
- 30:03Speaker 1: dressed in a normal police uniform, exhales smoke from a
- 30:07Speaker 1: cigarette and is like, hey, Jenkins, so devoted to your
- 30:10Speaker 1: work that you leave your jurisdiction. Huh uh. Jenkins is like, actually,
- 30:15Speaker 1: he's involved in a case we're working on right now.
- 30:17Speaker 1: And Evenstein has this shit eating grin on his face,
- 30:21Speaker 1: like basically every time we see him forever. So I
- 30:24Speaker 1: just wanted to point that out because it's a fucking jerk.
- 30:29Speaker 1: And he says, but this is my territory. Plus he's
- 30:33Speaker 1: a red handed murderer. Ash gasps, and Evnstein says take
- 30:38Speaker 1: him away. Ash, who is in handcuffs, is like, I'm
- 30:42Speaker 1: telling you I didn't do it, and the cops push
- 30:44Speaker 1: him forward and he's like shit. One of the cops says,
- 30:47Speaker 1: get moving, and Ash's like, damn it, let me go.
- 30:51Speaker 1: And I guess they're kind of in front, and now
- 30:55Speaker 1: Evenstein is walking down the hall and Jenkins, who is
- 30:58Speaker 1: behind him, says wait, and Evnstein stops and Jenkins says,
- 31:03Speaker 1: can we at least sit in on the interrogation And
- 31:06Speaker 1: I guess he said yes, because they cut to what
- 31:09Speaker 1: I assume is the precinct in an interrogation room, and
- 31:14Speaker 1: Ash and evan Stein are there at a table and
- 31:18Speaker 1: Charlie and Jenkins are standing behind evan Stein, and we
- 31:21Speaker 1: get a pretty cool shot that is through basically a
- 31:24Speaker 1: two way mirror for the first part of the scene,
- 31:27Speaker 1: so they're kind of framed. I liked it at Evanstein says,
- 31:32Speaker 1: I remember you, well, Ash, hope you're not hustling anymore. Huh,
- 31:37Speaker 1: maybe Ash has engaged in prostitution. Anyway. Ash doesn't respond
- 31:43Speaker 1: to this. He's keeping quiet and he's not looking at
- 31:46Speaker 1: this dude, which is smart, but you really really should
- 31:50Speaker 1: get a lawyer before you have this kind of a
- 31:52Speaker 1: discussion with a cop. Anyway, Evanstein continues, we found something
- 31:57Speaker 1: pretty interesting in that pig's room. Ash looks over and
- 32:02Speaker 1: his expression changes to something like muted fear, and he
- 32:07Speaker 1: half gasps, and Evenstein pulls some DVDs out of an
- 32:13Speaker 1: envelope and he says there were a few videos too.
- 32:17Speaker 1: He opens one of the DVD cases and pulls it
- 32:21Speaker 1: out and puts it in a DVD player that I
- 32:24Speaker 1: guess is attached to a projector. Awesome, Ash says, stop.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Even Stein seems pretty fucking happy with himself and relaxed,
- 32:35Speaker 1: but Jenkins and Charlie look pretty concerned. And even Stein
- 32:40Speaker 1: says something wrong, and he takes one of the magazines
- 32:46Speaker 1: that was in the Manila folder and he hands it
- 32:48Speaker 1: to Jenkins, and we see as he's handing it over
- 32:51Speaker 1: that it is called American Boy, fucking Geese. Why am
- 32:56Speaker 1: I doing this to myself? Like I wrote, just at
- 32:59Speaker 1: like the top of my know, it's on this page.
- 33:01Speaker 1: What am I doing anyway? Evanstein says, see for yourself.
- 33:07Speaker 1: The swine was pretty twisted. Jenkins flips through the pages
- 33:12Speaker 1: of American Boy, Oh my god, and Charlie says, what
- 33:17Speaker 1: is it? And Evanstein says, child pornography and the kinky
- 33:23Speaker 1: kind too. I don't think there's good child pornography, guys,
- 33:27Speaker 1: But anyway, he continues watch the movie starting. Ash is
- 33:33Speaker 1: looking at the floor in just blank horror, and Evanstein
- 33:40Speaker 1: is watching totally nonplussed. We have kind of minor background
- 33:46Speaker 1: noises from the movie that we're not seeing right now.
- 33:50Speaker 1: They don't sound good, guys, none of this sounds good.
- 33:55Speaker 1: And Jenkins winces and Charlie puts his hand over his
- 33:58Speaker 1: mouth and he's like, I'm gonna pe Jenkins says, Okay,
- 34:02Speaker 1: that's enough. Evenstein does not fucking care what they think
- 34:06Speaker 1: and says, that's you, isn't it, Ash? Fuck? How old
- 34:10Speaker 1: were you then? Ten eleven a little older. Ash's head
- 34:15Speaker 1: is just down now, and so we get like a
- 34:19Speaker 1: partial shot of the screen. We've been kind of getting
- 34:23Speaker 1: glimpses of it for a couple of seconds that are
- 34:26Speaker 1: kind of blurred and obscured, and what we get is
- 34:30Speaker 1: like maybe thighs, I guess, sort of, and it looks
- 34:36Speaker 1: like bad, like real bad, like without showing too much,
- 34:41Speaker 1: it is very clear that there is a sexual activity
- 34:45Speaker 1: occurring in this, so Banks animators anyway, In response to
- 34:55Speaker 1: said video, Evan Stein says, that's Marvin's fat, right, that's
- 35:01Speaker 1: why you killed him. You were holding a grudge, and
- 35:05Speaker 1: Ash is clenching his teeth and shaking, and Evenstein continues,
- 35:11Speaker 1: you wanted to kill him? Am I wrong? Ash is
- 35:15Speaker 1: just shaking and Evenstein says, answer me. At this Ash
- 35:22Speaker 1: slams his cupped fists on the table and he stands,
- 35:28Speaker 1: but he doesn't say anything. He's just standing there, shaking
- 35:31Speaker 1: with rage and probably other emotions. And he clenches his
- 35:36Speaker 1: fists and he falls back into his chair, defeated, and
- 35:41Speaker 1: there's a knock on the door and some guy's like, lieutenant,
- 35:44Speaker 1: the hospital's ready. Evenstein sighs, like he was having fun,
- 35:49Speaker 1: and he turns the lights on and he's like, fine,
- 35:52Speaker 1: take him away. The cops like, get up, and Ash
- 35:56Speaker 1: stands and goes quietly, and we do not see his expression,
- 36:01Speaker 1: and as they are leading him away, Evenstein says later
- 36:06Speaker 1: movie star. At this point, the cop is walking Ash
- 36:10Speaker 1: down the hallway and we hear Jenkins say Ash, and
- 36:14Speaker 1: he runs up from behind Ash in the cop and
- 36:17Speaker 1: he says, you handled that really well, and he puts
- 36:20Speaker 1: his hand On's shoulder and Ash whips around and knocks
- 36:24Speaker 1: his hand away and says, don't touch me. Jenkins shrinks back, surprised,
- 36:31Speaker 1: and Ash says, keep your filthy hands off me. We
- 36:36Speaker 1: cut to Evan Stein, who is on the phone in
- 36:39Speaker 1: his office and he says the Lynxes in the cage
- 36:43Speaker 1: just as requested. There's a pause and then he says, yeah, thanks.
- 36:47Speaker 1: Can't live on a policeman's pension. I wasn't sure if
- 36:50Speaker 1: they really meant pension or if they meant salary, and
- 36:52Speaker 1: they messed it up, so I just left it as pension.
- 36:54Speaker 1: We cut to Dino, who is putting down the phone,
- 36:58Speaker 1: so obviously that's who Evanstein was talking to, and he says,
- 37:03Speaker 1: call Judge Phillips of the District Court. And a guy's like,
- 37:06Speaker 1: got it, and Dino says so, and we see that
- 37:10Speaker 1: he is talking to the red haired glasses guy from
- 37:13Speaker 1: before with the orchids and he didn't care about the orgids,
- 37:16Speaker 1: who is sitting in a chair, and red haired glasses
- 37:19Speaker 1: guy says, the only perfect sample we had was the
- 37:22Speaker 1: few milligrams that were stolen. Even with the formula, we
- 37:26Speaker 1: can't and Dino cuts him off and says, and who
- 37:28Speaker 1: lost it? The guy flinches. Dino takes a puff of
- 37:32Speaker 1: his cigar and he says, forget it, It'll be returned
- 37:36Speaker 1: in time. Banana fish, Huh, you're becoming quite a handful now.
- 37:43Speaker 1: We cut to Ash in a hospital bed, all bandaged up,
- 37:47Speaker 1: thank god, and Charlie is sitting next to him, and
- 37:51Speaker 1: he says, I totally get it. Skip was just a kid.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Ash is silent and not looking at him, just kind
- 37:57Speaker 1: of looking at the window with the blind's head closed,
- 38:01Speaker 1: and Charlie continues, A couple people associated with golzen and
- 38:06Speaker 1: have committed suicide this year. We want to catch him
- 38:09Speaker 1: this time. This has to do with him, right, you
- 38:12Speaker 1: might have something we could take him down with and
- 38:13Speaker 1: not even know it. Hey, are you listening? Ash? Ash
- 38:19Speaker 1: finally turns his head and says, I don't know anything,
- 38:23Speaker 1: and he sets up I don't care about your game
- 38:25Speaker 1: of tag. I didn't kill Marvin, but I would have
- 38:28Speaker 1: if someone didn't get there first. Charlie is stunned, and
- 38:32Speaker 1: Ash continues, what can you guys do anyway? How do
- 38:36Speaker 1: you plan to indict him? Charlie is like, well, that
- 38:40Speaker 1: depends on what you tell us, and Ash says, as
- 38:44Speaker 1: if it'd be of any use, he's got a team
- 38:47Speaker 1: of big shot lawyers, your high and mighty rights or
- 38:51Speaker 1: nothing to him. Even a stupid ass punk like me
- 38:53Speaker 1: knows that. Charlie looks so fucking crestfallen his Ash is right,
- 39:00Speaker 1: and Ash says, lock me up for murder if you want.
- 39:03Speaker 1: I'm just a worthless hudlum. Anyways, he lies back down
- 39:07Speaker 1: and looks away again and says, leave me alone. So
- 39:11Speaker 1: now maybe it's later, and we see the hospital exterior
- 39:15Speaker 1: for a second to give us an idea where we are,
- 39:18Speaker 1: and then we see Charlie sitting with Ag and Shoonnichi
- 39:22Speaker 1: in what probably is the cafeteria at the hospital, and
- 39:25Speaker 1: Shoonnichi says, we're gonna pull out of this because of
- 39:28Speaker 1: what happened. It's too bad, but we're heading back tonight
- 39:30Speaker 1: after we meet Max in jail, and AG's like, what
- 39:35Speaker 1: did you want to see me about? And Charlie says
- 39:37Speaker 1: about that, and Agi says, is it about Ash? Ahuh.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Charlie says he's planning to fight at Mafia Don with
- 39:46Speaker 1: just one Trump card. He's going to be killed, and
- 39:49Speaker 1: AG and Shoonnichi gasp, and Charlie continues, Agi, I need
- 39:54Speaker 1: you to convince him to give us his trump card,
- 39:56Speaker 1: and Shoonnici says, but what is it? And Charlie's like,
- 40:00Speaker 1: I don't know, but Golzin is persistently chasing after Ash,
- 40:04Speaker 1: so it's got to be serious. And AG says, but
- 40:07Speaker 1: why me, I have no power, and at this point
- 40:11Speaker 1: I noticed that Ag has beautiful eyes. Sorry, guys, so
- 40:15Speaker 1: Charlie says, because he saved you, he tried to save you,
- 40:18Speaker 1: even though it meant risking his and Skips lives, he
- 40:22Speaker 1: might listen to you. Ag looks kind of worried. And
- 40:26Speaker 1: then we cut to Ash in the hospital bed looking
- 40:29Speaker 1: out the window watching a tufted titmouse. And it's important
- 40:33Speaker 1: to point out that those birds are native to New York,
- 40:36Speaker 1: So good fucking job there, and then he hears the
- 40:39Speaker 1: door open and he looks over and Ag is standing
- 40:42Speaker 1: in the doorway, and he says hey, and AG sits
- 40:46Speaker 1: next to the bed and says, how are you feeling?
- 40:50Speaker 1: And As says, look, who's asking? There wasn't a mat right,
- 40:54Speaker 1: And AGI's like, nah, but it's it's not such a
- 40:57Speaker 1: big deal, and Ash says that was really quite a jump.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Didn't think you had such talent. AG looks so sad,
- 41:06Speaker 1: and he says, but I didn't even get to thank Skip.
- 41:10Speaker 1: Hey ash um Ash smiles and says, Charlie sent you here,
- 41:18Speaker 1: didn't he? And AG's like what well, and Ashes like
- 41:25Speaker 1: you're a terrible liar. AG frowns at this point we
- 41:29Speaker 1: get like a really interesting shot that is just the
- 41:31Speaker 1: shadows of Ag and Ash on the floor, I think,
- 41:34Speaker 1: or the wall or whatever does matter, And Ash says,
- 41:37Speaker 1: did he tell you about my past? And we see
- 41:40Speaker 1: AG's shadow flinch and he says, what passed? Yeah, he
- 41:46Speaker 1: told him, and Ash's like, I guess those kind of
- 41:49Speaker 1: things don't happen in Japan, and AG's like, I really
- 41:53Speaker 1: don't know. Ash is quiet for a second and he
- 41:57Speaker 1: looks out the window and his face brightened slightly, has
- 42:00Speaker 1: a bunch of tufted tit mice or like flying away,
- 42:05Speaker 1: and he says, I envy you, you know how to fly.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Fuck Out. In the hall, Shunichi and Charlie are waiting
- 42:15Speaker 1: and Ag walks over and he is just fucking crying.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Tears are just streaming down his face, My poor sweet age,
- 42:23Speaker 1: and Shunici says, a chn what's wrong, and AG's like,
- 42:28Speaker 1: I can't ask him and he wipes his face, and
- 42:31Speaker 1: Charlie says, what did he say? And Shunichi like pulls
- 42:35Speaker 1: Ag in close and kind of rests his head on
- 42:39Speaker 1: Shunici's shoulder, and he says, could you give him a second?
- 42:42Speaker 1: Let him calm down, and they kind of walk off,
- 42:45Speaker 1: and Charlie answered the phone and he's like yes, and
- 42:48Speaker 1: Jenkins is like bad news. Ash's being transferred to state prison.
- 42:52Speaker 1: And Charlie's like what, but his raiment hasn't even been
- 42:55Speaker 1: submitted yet, and Jenkins says District judges says the defendant
- 43:01Speaker 1: was absent, but everything's already been finalized, and Charlie's like but,
- 43:06Speaker 1: And then we cut to ag who is sitting on
- 43:10Speaker 1: a bench with some coffee, and he says, Ash already
- 43:14Speaker 1: made up his mind. And he's still crying. And we
- 43:18Speaker 1: know that because we are looking in his coffee and
- 43:20Speaker 1: we see his reflection, and he continues, I couldn't bring
- 43:24Speaker 1: myself to tell him to leave it to someone else.
- 43:26Speaker 1: He knows better than anyone that he's no match for them.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Shunichi's like, I understand, don't cry. We'll see this through
- 43:34Speaker 1: to the end. He won't be alone, I hope not.
- 43:39Speaker 1: Then we see feet walking and we hear someone through
- 43:42Speaker 1: a phone say if he sent to jail, he'll be
- 43:45Speaker 1: killed for sure. It's swarming with Goldzine's men. Okay, it's
- 43:48Speaker 1: Jenkins's feet. So he says, Charlie, go see Max lowbo
- 43:52Speaker 1: now lucky for us, he's locked up there right now,
- 43:56Speaker 1: have him guard ash. Charlie runs off and he gets
- 44:00Speaker 1: to where Agi and Shunichi are sitting on the bench,
- 44:03Speaker 1: and he says, eBay, and he grabs him by the
- 44:05Speaker 1: shoulders and he's like, I'm coming with you to see Max.
- 44:08Speaker 1: And Shunichi's like what, and Charlie grabs his arm and
- 44:13Speaker 1: pulls him up and is like, I'll explain later, hurry,
- 44:16Speaker 1: and they are running down the hall. Now Age's there too,
- 44:19Speaker 1: by the way. Then we cut to a van entering
- 44:23Speaker 1: a fenced off area in the front of a building,
- 44:26Speaker 1: a big, imposing one that I'm pretty sure is supposed
- 44:28Speaker 1: to be a prison. I also want to say that
- 44:30Speaker 1: in the manga, this is absolutely taking place on Riker's Island,
- 44:34Speaker 1: but we don't specify here at all, because I guess
- 44:37Speaker 1: they figure a Japanese audiences wouldn't know anyway, I don't know.
- 44:41Speaker 1: So we see a hand put down ashes, mugshot and
- 44:45Speaker 1: information on a table actually to desk, but whatever, and
- 44:49Speaker 1: a voice says, here's your target, and we see that
- 44:53Speaker 1: this is supposed to be Faulkner's State prison, which is
- 44:55Speaker 1: in a real place, by the way, and we get
- 44:58Speaker 1: some additional information on Ash. His full name is Oslon
- 45:02Speaker 1: Jade Callan Reese and his birthday is August twelfth. Yay,
- 45:07Speaker 1: now you know. And now we cut back so we
- 45:09Speaker 1: can see that we are in an office and there
- 45:12Speaker 1: is some dude sitting at a desk. We're looking at him,
- 45:16Speaker 1: you know, head on, and there are three inmates that
- 45:19Speaker 1: are so close to the camera that we only see
- 45:22Speaker 1: a little bit of their back, so we can't really
- 45:24Speaker 1: see what they look like. And the first inmate says
- 45:26Speaker 1: a hot little princess, huh fuck and whistles, and the
- 45:31Speaker 1: second inmate, who has a snake tattoo, says, looks like
- 45:34Speaker 1: it'll be fun tonight. Then we cut to Ash being
- 45:37Speaker 1: led down the center kind of haul in the jail,
- 45:41Speaker 1: and there are cells on both sides, you know how
- 45:44Speaker 1: jail is, and the inmates are being super fucking loud
- 45:48Speaker 1: and vulgar, and some dude is like, hey, cutie, how
- 45:52Speaker 1: old are you great? And Ash is walking completely stoically,
- 45:58Speaker 1: And then we go to the title card in another country,
- 46:03Speaker 1: and then we go to the ending theme. Yes, and
- 46:05Speaker 1: it is called Prayer X and it is by King
- 46:08Speaker 1: Neu Gnu. I don't really know how you pronounce that?
- 46:12Speaker 1: Who you may know? They did the opening theme to
- 46:15Speaker 1: the last season of Jujuju Kaisen, the specials theme, You
- 46:19Speaker 1: are Mu Special. I wish I didn't kind of sing that,
- 46:22Speaker 1: but that's the same band, and I was gonna check
- 46:26Speaker 1: and see what else they did, and I forgot whatever.
- 46:28Speaker 1: So the ending is pretty cool, like line art bubbles
- 46:31Speaker 1: followed by like a red and blue heart and there's
- 46:34Speaker 1: like a charcoal drawings of kind of ash and it
- 46:36Speaker 1: almost kind of looks like the manga design, and then
- 46:39Speaker 1: him grabbing his chests and like ripping a shirt away
- 46:42Speaker 1: to expose that weird blue and red heart, and then
- 46:45Speaker 1: sinking to the bottom of some water. Yay, Anyway, I
- 46:50Speaker 1: really like this song. It is my favorite of the
- 46:54Speaker 1: opening and ending themes from this show. It's just really
- 46:58Speaker 1: cool soundings got kind of two very distinct styles. The
- 47:03Speaker 1: chorus is very very melancholy sounding, and then the kind
- 47:06Speaker 1: of verse or transition between them is like real like poppy.
- 47:11Speaker 1: I don't know, I think it's cool. I love this song.
- 47:13Speaker 1: I'm learning it on the guitar in case you're interested.
- 47:16Speaker 1: It's not hard to play on the guitar. Really, I've
- 47:18Speaker 1: learned it on the guitar. It's more that I am
- 47:20Speaker 1: trying to learn the words in Japanese and it's taking
- 47:23Speaker 1: some time because for some reason, the well the verses
- 47:26Speaker 1: don't have much of a melody to them, so it's
- 47:28Speaker 1: really hard to learn the words in Japanese. But now
- 47:33Speaker 1: you know, for some messed up reason, and that is
- 47:36Speaker 1: finally the end of the fucking episode. Closing thoughts. So,
- 47:42Speaker 1: first of all, like so much stuff happened in this episode,
- 47:48Speaker 1: and this will be a theme going forward. This anime
- 47:52Speaker 1: and the manga have a very dense narrative. Something is
- 47:55Speaker 1: always going on, whereas in the last anime that we
- 47:59Speaker 1: want watch together sort of or that we talked about together, Windbreaker,
- 48:04Speaker 1: there were episodes where almost nothing happened, like the episode
- 48:07Speaker 1: that was called Dialogue, where it was just dialogue. There's
- 48:11Speaker 1: not gonna be an episode like that in Banana Fish.
- 48:14Speaker 1: There are some episodes that aren't as so fucking heavy,
- 48:19Speaker 1: but they are all very densely packed. That's just how
- 48:24Speaker 1: this series is, which I really enjoy. I didn't find
- 48:30Speaker 1: a single episode boring or unentertaining in the entire show,
- 48:36Speaker 1: and I have a problem with watching anime late at night.
- 48:40Speaker 1: And falling asleep while watching it. I did not even
- 48:44Speaker 1: close to fall asleep during any of these episodes except
- 48:46Speaker 1: for the first one, apparently, so that's maybe a good thing.
- 48:50Speaker 1: But so much stuff happened in this episode. Like I
- 48:54Speaker 1: have a friend who I'm forcing to watch this right now,
- 48:58Speaker 1: and I remember when he was watching this episode. He
- 49:00Speaker 1: was texting me periodically throughout it, and I was just like,
- 49:03Speaker 1: how is this the same episode? Anyway? I like this episode,
- 49:07Speaker 1: but fuck, it was so hard to record because I
- 49:11Speaker 1: feel embarrassed saying some of these things. And I hope
- 49:16Speaker 1: you know that I don't know. So what do we
- 49:19Speaker 1: know right now? Skip is dead? That's just fucking wonderful.
- 49:23Speaker 1: Ag is a pole vaulter, So I think it's interesting
- 49:27Speaker 1: because he has, thus far, even though it's only been
- 49:31Speaker 1: an episode, been presented as very you know, quiet and
- 49:36Speaker 1: kind of naive. So it's interesting to see that he
- 49:40Speaker 1: has done something that's actually kind of dangerous. I mean
- 49:44Speaker 1: it's not as dangerous as like shooting people, but it's
- 49:47Speaker 1: still pretty dangerous. He's not just a quiet kid. As
- 49:50Speaker 1: for Ash, we know something I don't think he wanted
- 49:56Speaker 1: everyone to know, which is that he's had some pretty
- 50:00Speaker 1: horrific shit happened to him, and maybe he was involved
- 50:04Speaker 1: in prostitution. At least the cop Evenstein seemed to be
- 50:09Speaker 1: implying that. I wanted to point that out, because first
- 50:14Speaker 1: of all, I barely know that hustling could mean prostitution.
- 50:20Speaker 1: It just seems like a catch all word that everybody
- 50:22Speaker 1: uses for everything else. But in the manga, the translation
- 50:27Speaker 1: it just asks if he's still turning tricks, which I
- 50:30Speaker 1: know is prostitution. However, I did more than that. I
- 50:36Speaker 1: listened to the Japanese in the anime to try to
- 50:40Speaker 1: figure out what the fuck they were saying. Then I
- 50:42Speaker 1: bought the second volume of Banana Fish in Japanese so
- 50:47Speaker 1: I could read the translation and figure out what the
- 50:50Speaker 1: fuck word they were using. They're using kiyaku hiki, which
- 50:54Speaker 1: doesn't actually have like a really good English translation. It
- 50:58Speaker 1: is a person who's basically barker. They stand out in
- 51:02Speaker 1: front of bars and restaurants and shit clubs and try
- 51:07Speaker 1: to get people to come in. In Japan, but there
- 51:11Speaker 1: are instances where kayaku hicky work for brothels and in
- 51:15Speaker 1: the red light district and stuff, so I think it
- 51:17Speaker 1: kind of has a negative connotation. So I mean the
- 51:21Speaker 1: closest I can get in English is like maybe solicitor.
- 51:25Speaker 1: So it's like he kind of asked him if he
- 51:26Speaker 1: was still soliciting. But I think what's really happening is
- 51:30Speaker 1: that I don't have the best grasp of Japanese culture
- 51:34Speaker 1: and I'm missing something that this word means. And I'm
- 51:37Speaker 1: just going to trust the manga and anime that we
- 51:41Speaker 1: were supposed to be implying that Ash has engaged in prostitution.
- 51:45Speaker 1: I'm just telling you all this because it took me
- 51:46Speaker 1: like eight hours to figure this out, and it's embarrassing.
- 51:50Speaker 1: Something else on that train of really shitty stuff that
- 51:53Speaker 1: happened in this episode. If you were like, hey, why
- 51:58Speaker 1: does Marvin totally believe that after he beat up this
- 52:02Speaker 1: kid that the kid is just gonna have sex with him?
- 52:04Speaker 1: Now you know why, because he has before, and Marvin
- 52:11Speaker 1: had no reason to believe that it would be any different. Great,
- 52:16Speaker 1: everything is great. This isn't very upsetting at all. And
- 52:19Speaker 1: the only other thing I wanted to say so I
- 52:21Speaker 1: can just go away and take a shower is something
- 52:25Speaker 1: I would like you guys to watch for In the
- 52:27Speaker 1: first core from now until maybe the end of episode nine,
- 52:30Speaker 1: we're gonna learn a lot about especially ash as he
- 52:34Speaker 1: is the main character. I would like you, guys to
- 52:36Speaker 1: keep an eye on how many times his story is
- 52:39Speaker 1: explained by other people and not him, because it's going
- 52:44Speaker 1: to be almost every if not every time, that somebody
- 52:47Speaker 1: tells his story without his input or his approval in
- 52:51Speaker 1: any way. And sometimes it'll of course be when he's
- 52:54Speaker 1: around and he won't be able to say anything, like
- 52:57Speaker 1: in the interrogation, and then sometimes it'll be totally when
- 53:01Speaker 1: he is not there to defend himself, like with Charlie
- 53:05Speaker 1: telling Age and Shunichi about his past, which he absolutely did.
- 53:09Speaker 1: It is in the manga, so yeah, it will probably
- 53:13Speaker 1: affect how you see him as a character, So I
- 53:16Speaker 1: want you to take note of that, and I want
- 53:18Speaker 1: you to take note of how much of this comes
- 53:19Speaker 1: from his abusers. That's that's all I got for right now.
- 53:26Speaker 1: I hope that this didn't make you hate me, but
- 53:29Speaker 1: after watching this episode, it at least made me hate me,
- 53:32Speaker 1: so that's got to be enough for both of us. Anyway,
- 53:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna go and do something that is not this.
- 53:41Speaker 1: I'm actually just gonna edit this, but whatever, and I
- 53:44Speaker 1: hope you have a really good whatever later weeps
