- 0:19Speaker 1: leads an expedition to the North Pole. One fine day,
- 0:25Speaker 1: Pooh had stumped up to the top of the forest
- 0:28Speaker 1: to see if his friend, Christopher Robin was interested in
- 0:31Speaker 1: bears at all. At breakfast that morning, a simple meal
- 0:36Speaker 1: of marmalade spread lightly over a honeycomb or two, he
- 0:40Speaker 1: had suddenly thought of a new song.
- 0:43Speaker 2: It began like this, sing Ho for the Life of
- 0:47Speaker 2: a Bear.
- 0:49Speaker 1: When he had got as far as this, he scratched
- 0:52Speaker 1: his head and thought to himself, that's a.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Very good start for a song. But what about the
- 0:59Speaker 2: second line.
- 1:02Speaker 1: He tried singing Ho Ho Ho two or three times,
- 1:11Speaker 1: but it didn't seem to help.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Perhaps it would be better, he thought, if I sang
- 1:18Speaker 2: Hi for the life of a bear. So he sang it,
- 1:23Speaker 2: but it wasn't very well. Then he said, I shall
- 1:28Speaker 2: sing that first line twice, and perhaps if I sing
- 1:32Speaker 2: it very quickly, I shall find myself singing the third
- 1:35Speaker 2: and the fourth lines before I have time to think
- 1:37Speaker 2: of them, and that will be a good song. Now
- 1:42Speaker 2: then sing Hole for the Life of a bear. Sing
- 1:46Speaker 2: Hole for the life of a bear. I don't much
- 1:48Speaker 2: mind if it rains or snose, because I've got a
- 1:50Speaker 2: lot of honey on my nice new nose. I don't
- 1:52Speaker 2: much care if it snose or thaws, because I've got
- 1:54Speaker 2: a lot of honey on my nice clean Pawsing hole
- 1:56Speaker 2: for a bear, sing Hole for pooh, and I'll have
- 2:00Speaker 2: a little something in an hour. Door two.
- 2:02Speaker 1: He was so pleased with this song that he sang
- 2:05Speaker 1: it all the way to the top of the forest.
- 2:09Speaker 2: And if I go on singing it much longer, he thought,
- 2:13Speaker 2: it will be time for the little something, and then
- 2:16Speaker 2: the last line won't be true.
- 2:19Speaker 1: So he turned it into a hum instead. Christopher Robin
- 2:23Speaker 1: was sitting outside his door putting on his big boots.
- 2:27Speaker 1: As soon as he saw the big boots, poo knew
- 2:30Speaker 1: that an adventure was going to happen, and he brushed
- 2:34Speaker 1: the honey off his nose with the back of his
- 2:36Speaker 1: paw and spruced himself up as well as he could
- 2:40Speaker 1: so as to look ready for anything.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Good morning, Christopher Robin, He.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Called out, Hello, Pooh Bear, I can't get this boot on.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Well, that's bad, said Pooh.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Do you think you could very kindly lean against me
- 2:58Speaker 3: because I keep pulling so hard that I fall over backwards?
- 3:03Speaker 1: Pooh sat down, dug his feet into the ground, and
- 3:07Speaker 1: pushed hard against Christopher Robin's back, And Christopher Robin pushed
- 3:12Speaker 1: hard against his and pulled and pulled at his boot
- 3:16Speaker 1: until he had got it on. And that's that, said Pooh.
- 3:23Speaker 2: What do we do next?
- 3:25Speaker 3: We're all going on an expedition.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Said Christopher Robin as he got up and brushed himself.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Thank you, Pooh.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Going on an expedition, said Pooh eagerly.
- 3:38Speaker 2: I don't think I've ever been on one of those.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Where are we going to on this expedition?
- 3:43Speaker 3: Expedition? Silly old Bear's gotten ex init.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Oh, said Pooh.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I know, but he didn't.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Really.
- 3:55Speaker 3: We're going to discover the North Pole.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Oh, said Pooh again.
- 4:02Speaker 2: What is the North Pole?
- 4:04Speaker 1: He asked.
- 4:06Speaker 3: It's just a thing you discover, said Christopher Robin carelessly,
- 4:11Speaker 3: not being.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Quite sure himself.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Oh, I see, said Pooh. Are bere's any good at
- 4:19Speaker 2: discovering it?
- 4:20Speaker 3: Of course they are, and Rabbit and Kanga and all
- 4:23Speaker 3: of you. It's an expedition. That's what an expedition means.
- 4:28Speaker 3: A long line of everybody. You'd better tell the others
- 4:31Speaker 3: to get ready, while I see if my gun's all right.
- 4:34Speaker 3: And we must all bring provisions, bring what things to eat?
- 4:41Speaker 1: Oh, said Pooh, happily.
- 4:43Speaker 2: I thought you said provisions. I'll go and tell them.
- 4:47Speaker 1: And he stumped off. The first person he met was Rabbit. Hello, Rabbit,
- 4:54Speaker 1: he said.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Is that you?
- 4:57Speaker 5: Let's pretend it isn't, said rabbit, and see what happens.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I've got a message for you.
- 5:04Speaker 5: I'll give it to him.
- 5:06Speaker 2: We're all going on an expedition with Christopher Robin.
- 5:09Speaker 5: What is when we're on it?
- 5:12Speaker 2: A sort of boat, I think, said Pooh Oh, that sort, yes,
- 5:18Speaker 2: And we're going to discover a pole or something or
- 5:22Speaker 2: wasn't a mole anyhow, We're going to discover it.
- 5:26Speaker 1: We are, are we, said Rabbit, Yes.
- 5:30Speaker 2: And we've got to bring pro things to eat with
- 5:33Speaker 2: us in case we want to eat them. Now, I'm
- 5:36Speaker 2: going back down to Piglets. Tell Kango, will you.
- 5:40Speaker 1: He left Rabbit and hurried down to Piglet's house. The
- 5:44Speaker 1: piglet was sitting on the ground at the door of
- 5:46Speaker 1: his house, blowing happily at a dandelion and wondering whether
- 5:51Speaker 1: it would be this year, next year, some time, or never.
- 5:56Speaker 1: He had just discovered that it would be never, and
- 5:59Speaker 1: was trying to remember what it was and hoping it
- 6:03Speaker 1: wasn't anything nice when Pooh came up. Oh, Piglet said Pooh, excitedly.
- 6:11Speaker 2: We're going on an expedition, all of us with things
- 6:15Speaker 2: to eat, to discover.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Something to discover, what, said Piglet anxiously.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Oh, just something nothing this Christopher Robin didn't say anything
- 6:28Speaker 2: about fearce he just said it had an x.
- 6:32Speaker 6: It isn't then next I mind.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Said Piglet earnestly.
- 6:37Speaker 6: It's their teeth. But if Christopher Robin is coming, I
- 6:41Speaker 6: don't mind anything.
- 6:43Speaker 1: In a little while, they were all ready at the
- 6:45Speaker 1: top of the forest and the expedition started. First came
- 6:50Speaker 1: Christopher Robin and Rabbit, then Piglet and Pooh, then Kanu
- 6:56Speaker 1: withdrew in her pocket, and Owl, then Eyre, and at
- 7:00Speaker 1: the end, in a long line, all rabbits friends and relations.
- 7:06Speaker 5: I didn't ask them.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Explained Rabbit carelessly.
- 7:10Speaker 5: They just came. They always do. They can march at
- 7:12Speaker 5: the end after Ere.
- 7:15Speaker 4: What I say said Ere is that it's unsettling. I
- 7:20Speaker 4: didn't want to come on this expo, what Pooh said,
- 7:24Speaker 4: I only came to oblige. But here I am, And
- 7:28Speaker 4: if I am the end of the expo what we're
- 7:31Speaker 4: talking about, then let me be the end. But if
- 7:35Speaker 4: every time I want to sit down for a little rest,
- 7:38Speaker 4: I have to brush away half a dozen of rabbits,
- 7:41Speaker 4: smaller friends and relations first, then this isn't an expo
- 7:46Speaker 4: whatever it is at all. It's simply a confused noise.
- 7:51Speaker 4: That's what I say.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I see what ere means, said Owl.
- 7:57Speaker 4: If you ask me, I'm not asking anybody, said Eyre.
- 8:03Speaker 4: I'm just telling everybody. We can look for the north pole,
- 8:07Speaker 4: or we can play. Here we go gathering nuts and
- 8:11Speaker 4: may with the end part of an ant's nest. It's
- 8:14Speaker 4: all the same to me.
- 8:16Speaker 1: There was a shout from the top of the line.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Come on, called Christopher Robin, Come on, called Pooh, and piglet,
- 8:26Speaker 1: come on, called Owl.
- 8:28Speaker 5: We're starting, said Rabbit. I must go, and he hurried
- 8:33Speaker 5: off to the.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Front of the expedition with Christopher Robin. All right, said.
- 8:39Speaker 4: Eyor, we're going only don't blame me.
- 8:44Speaker 1: So off they all went to discover the pole, and
- 8:48Speaker 1: as they walked, they chattered to each other of this
- 8:51Speaker 1: and that, all except Pooh, who was making up a song.
- 8:56Speaker 2: This is the first verse.
- 8:59Speaker 1: He said to pick when he was ready with it.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Says this of what my song?
- 9:05Speaker 6: What song?
- 9:06Speaker 2: This one?
- 9:08Speaker 6: Which one?
- 9:09Speaker 2: Well, if you listen, Piglet, you'll hear it.
- 9:13Speaker 6: How do you know I'm not lessen day?
- 9:16Speaker 1: Pooh couldn't answer that one, so he began to sing.
- 9:20Speaker 2: They all went off to discover the pole. Owl and
- 9:24Speaker 2: Piglet and Rabbit and all. It's a thing you discovers.
- 9:27Speaker 2: I've been told by Owl and Piglet and rabbit and
- 9:31Speaker 2: all your Christopher Robin and Pooh and Rabbit's relations all
- 9:35Speaker 2: went to and where the pole was. None of them
- 9:38Speaker 2: knew sing Hey for Owl, Rabbit and al.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Hush, said Christopher Robin, turning round to Pooh.
- 9:47Speaker 3: We're just coming to a dangerous place.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Hush, said Pooh, turning round quickly to Piglet. Hush said
- 9:56Speaker 1: Piglet to Kanga, Hush said King to Owl, while Rue
- 10:01Speaker 1: said hush, hush, hush several times to himself. Very quietly,
- 10:09Speaker 1: Hush said Owl to Eore. Hush, said Eore in a
- 10:14Speaker 1: terrible voice, to all rabbits friends and relations.
- 10:18Speaker 6: And hush, hush, hush, hush.
- 10:22Speaker 1: They said hastily to each other, all down the line,
- 10:26Speaker 1: until it got to the last one of all, and
- 10:28Speaker 1: the last and smallest friend and relation was so upset
- 10:32Speaker 1: to find that the whole expedition was saying hush hush
- 10:37Speaker 1: to him that he buried himself head downwards in a
- 10:41Speaker 1: crack in the ground, and stayed there for two days
- 10:44Speaker 1: until the danger was over, and then went home in
- 10:48Speaker 1: a great hurry, and lived quietly with his aunt ever afterwards.
- 10:53Speaker 1: His name was Alexander Beadle. They had come to a
- 10:57Speaker 1: stream which twisted and tumbled between in high rocky banks,
- 11:01Speaker 1: and Christopher Robin saw at once how dangerous it was.
- 11:07Speaker 1: It's just the place, he explained, for an ambush. What
- 11:12Speaker 1: sort of bush, whispered Pooh to Piglet.
- 11:16Speaker 2: A gorse bush, My dear Pooh.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Said Owl in his superior way. Don't you know what
- 11:25Speaker 1: an ambush is, Owl said Piglet, looking round at him severely.
- 11:31Speaker 6: Whose wisper was perfectly private whisper, And there was no.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Need an ambush, said Owl. Is a sort of surprise.
- 11:41Speaker 2: So is a gorse bush sometimes, said Pooh?
- 11:45Speaker 6: An ambush as I was about to explain to Pooh,
- 11:49Speaker 6: said Piglet, is a sort of a surprise.
- 11:53Speaker 1: If people jump out at you suddenly, that's an ambush,
- 11:57Speaker 1: said Owl.
- 11:59Speaker 6: It's an ambush, bush, Pooh, when people jump at you suddenly.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Explained Piglet. Pooh, who now knew what an ambush was,
- 12:08Speaker 1: said that a gorse bush had sprung at him suddenly
- 12:11Speaker 1: one day when he fell off a tree, and he
- 12:14Speaker 1: had taken six days to get all the prickles out
- 12:17Speaker 1: of himself. We're not talking about gorse bushes, said Owl,
- 12:23Speaker 1: a little crossly, I am, said Pooh. They were climbing
- 12:29Speaker 1: very cautiously up the stream now, going from rock to rock,
- 12:34Speaker 1: And after they had gone a little way, they came
- 12:37Speaker 1: to a place where the banks widened out at each side,
- 12:41Speaker 1: so that on each side of the water there was
- 12:43Speaker 1: a level strip of grass on which they could sit
- 12:46Speaker 1: down and rest. As soon as he saw this, Christopher
- 12:50Speaker 1: Robin called halt, and they all sat down and rested.
- 12:57Speaker 1: I think, said Christopher Robin.
- 13:00Speaker 3: That we ought to eat all our provisions now so
- 13:03Speaker 3: that we shan't have so much to carry eat.
- 13:07Speaker 1: All or what, said Pooh? All that we've brought, said Piglet.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Getting to work. That's a good idea, said Pooh, and
- 13:17Speaker 1: he got to work too.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Have you all got something.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Asked Christopher Robin, with his mouth full.
- 13:24Speaker 4: All except me, said eore, as usual.
- 13:30Speaker 1: He looked round at them in his melancholy way.
- 13:34Speaker 4: I suppose none of you are sitting on a thistle
- 13:37Speaker 4: by any chance?
- 13:39Speaker 2: I believe I am, said Pooh.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Ow.
- 13:44Speaker 1: He got up and looked behind him.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Yes I was, I thought, so, Thank you, Pooh. If
- 13:52Speaker 4: you've quite finished with it, he.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Moved across to Pooh's place and began.
- 13:57Speaker 4: To eat it. Don't do them any good, you know,
- 14:01Speaker 4: sitting on them, he.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Went on as he looked up, munching.
- 14:06Speaker 4: Takes all the life out of them. Remember that another time,
- 14:10Speaker 4: all of you. A little consideration, a little thought for others,
- 14:15Speaker 4: makes all the difference.
- 14:18Speaker 1: As soon as he had finished his lunch, Christopher Robin
- 14:21Speaker 1: whispered to Rabbit, and Rabbit.
- 14:23Speaker 5: Said yes, yes, of course, and they walked.
- 14:27Speaker 1: A little way up the stream together.
- 14:30Speaker 3: I didn't want the others to hear.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Said Christopher Robin. Quite so, said Rabbit, looking important.
- 14:39Speaker 3: It's I wondered. It's only.
- 14:43Speaker 5: Rabbit.
- 14:44Speaker 3: I suppose you don't know what does the north pole
- 14:48Speaker 3: look like?
- 14:49Speaker 1: Well, said Rabbit, stroking his whiskers.
- 14:54Speaker 5: Now that you're asking me, I didn't know once.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Only i've sort of forgotten, said Christopher Robin carelessly. It's
- 15:03Speaker 1: a funny thing, said Rabbit.
- 15:06Speaker 5: But I've sort of forgotten too, although I did know once.
- 15:10Speaker 3: I suppose it's just a pole stuck in the ground.
- 15:13Speaker 5: Sure to be a pole, said Rabbit, because of calling
- 15:17Speaker 5: it a pole. And if it's a pole, well I
- 15:20Speaker 5: should think it would be sticking in the ground, shouldn't you,
- 15:22Speaker 5: because there'd be nowhere else to stick it.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Yes, that's what I thought.
- 15:27Speaker 5: The only thing, said Rabbit, is where is it sticking?
- 15:32Speaker 3: That's what we're looking.
- 15:33Speaker 1: For, said Christopher Robin. They went back to the others.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Piglet was lying on his back, sleeping peacefully. Rue was
- 15:43Speaker 1: washing his face and pause in the stream, while Kanga
- 15:47Speaker 1: explained to everybody proudly that this was the first time
- 15:50Speaker 1: he had ever washed his face himself. And Owl was
- 15:54Speaker 1: telling Keanga an interesting anecdote full of long words like
- 16:00Speaker 1: encyclopedia and rhododendron, to which Kanga wasn't listening.
- 16:06Speaker 4: I don't hold with all this washing, grumbled ere, this
- 16:11Speaker 4: modern behind the ear's nonsense.
- 16:14Speaker 2: What do you think, Pooh, well, said Pooh, I think,
- 16:21Speaker 2: But we.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Shall never know what Pooh thought, for there came a
- 16:25Speaker 1: sudden squeak from Rue, a splash, and a loud cry
- 16:29Speaker 1: of alarm from Kenga.
- 16:32Speaker 4: So much for washing, said Eyor.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Rue's falling in, cried Rabbit, and he and Christopher Robin
- 16:39Speaker 1: came rushing down to the rescue. Look at me swimming,
- 16:44Speaker 1: squeaked Rue from the middle of his pool and was
- 16:47Speaker 1: hurried down a waterfall into the next pool. Are you
- 16:51Speaker 1: all right, ru dear, called Kanga anxiously, yes, said Rue,
- 16:57Speaker 1: look at me, and down he went over the next
- 17:00Speaker 1: waterfall into another pool. Everybody was doing something to help. Piglet,
- 17:06Speaker 1: wide awake, suddenly was jumping up and down and making ooh,
- 17:12Speaker 1: I say noises. Owl was explaining that in case of
- 17:17Speaker 1: sudden and temporary immersion, the important thing was to keep
- 17:21Speaker 1: the head above water. Kanga was jumping along the bank, saying,
- 17:26Speaker 1: are you sure you're all right, ru dear, to which Rue,
- 17:30Speaker 1: from whatever pool he was in at the moment, was answering,
- 17:34Speaker 1: look at me swimming, Or had turned round and hung
- 17:38Speaker 1: his tail over the first pool into which Rue fell,
- 17:42Speaker 1: and with his back to the accident, was grumbling quietly
- 17:45Speaker 1: to himself and saying.
- 17:48Speaker 4: All this washing, but catch on to my tail, little Rue,
- 17:52Speaker 4: and you'll be all right.
- 17:54Speaker 1: And Christopher, Robin and Rabbit came hurrying past Eore and
- 17:58Speaker 1: were calling out to the others in front of them.
- 18:01Speaker 1: All right, Rue, I'm coming, called Christopher Robin.
- 18:05Speaker 5: Get something across the stream lowered down, some of you fellows.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Called rabbit. But Pooh was getting something two pools below Rue.
- 18:14Speaker 1: He was standing with a long pole in his paws,
- 18:17Speaker 1: and Kanga came up and took one end of it,
- 18:20Speaker 1: and between them they held it across the lower part
- 18:23Speaker 1: of the pool, and Rue, still bubbling proudly, look at
- 18:28Speaker 1: me swimming, drifted up against it and climbed out.
- 18:33Speaker 4: Did you see me swimming?
- 18:35Speaker 1: Squeaked Rue excitedly, while Kanga scolded him and rubbed him down.
- 18:40Speaker 4: Pooh, did you see me swimming? That's called swimming?
- 18:42Speaker 3: What I was doing? Rabbit?
- 18:44Speaker 6: Did you see what I was doing?
- 18:45Speaker 4: Swimming?
- 18:46Speaker 6: Oh a piglet, I say, pillow, What do you think
- 18:48Speaker 6: I was doing?
- 18:49Speaker 3: Swimming?
- 18:50Speaker 6: Chrisopher Robin did you see me?
- 18:52Speaker 1: But Christopher Robin wasn't listening. He was looking at Pooh Pooh.
- 18:58Speaker 1: He said, where did you find that pole? Pooh looked
- 19:03Speaker 1: at the pole in his hands.
- 19:05Speaker 2: I just found it, he said, I've thought it ought
- 19:09Speaker 2: to be useful. I just picked it up.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Pooh, said Christopher Robin solemnly.
- 19:16Speaker 3: The expedition is over. You have found the north pole.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Oh, said Pooh. Eorre was sitting with his tail in
- 19:26Speaker 1: the water when they all got back to him.
- 19:30Speaker 4: Tell Rue to be quick, somebody. He said, my tail's
- 19:35Speaker 4: getting cold. I don't want to mention it, but I
- 19:38Speaker 4: just mention it. I don't want to complain, but there
- 19:41Speaker 4: it is. My tail's cold.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Here I am, squeaked Rue.
- 19:47Speaker 4: Oh there you are.
- 19:50Speaker 6: Did you see me swimming?
- 19:52Speaker 1: Yoorre took his tail out of the water and swished
- 19:55Speaker 1: it from side to.
- 19:56Speaker 4: Side as I expected, he said, lost all feeling numbed it.
- 20:04Speaker 4: That's what it's done, numbed it. Well. As long as
- 20:09Speaker 4: nobody minds, I suppose it's all right, poor old Eore.
- 20:14Speaker 1: I'll dry it for you, said Christopher Robin, and he
- 20:18Speaker 1: took out his handkerchief and rubbed it up.
- 20:21Speaker 4: Thank you, Christopher Robin. You're the only one who seems
- 20:25Speaker 4: to understand about tails. They don't think. That's what's the
- 20:29Speaker 4: matter with some of these others. They've no imagination. A
- 20:34Speaker 4: tail isn't a tail to them. It's just a little
- 20:37Speaker 4: bit extra at the back.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Never mind, eore, said Christopher Robin, rubbing his hardest.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Is that better?
- 20:47Speaker 4: It's feeling more like a tail. Perhaps it belongs again,
- 20:51Speaker 4: if you know what I mean.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Hello you're said Pooh, coming up to them with his pole.
- 20:59Speaker 4: Hello Pooh, thank you for asking, But I shall be
- 21:03Speaker 4: able to use it again in a day or two.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Use what, said Pooh?
- 21:09Speaker 4: What we are talking about?
