- 0:00Speaker 1: This week, we're looking back at some of our favorite
- 0:03Speaker 1: or most notable episodes from the past five years, and
- 0:05Speaker 1: for year three, twenty twenty two, we chose Two Tickets
- 0:09Speaker 1: to Paradise Asha Williams, Ryan Pavey. I think we've looked
- 0:13Speaker 1: back on this movie over the past several years and
- 0:16Speaker 1: we've said this is Ryan Pavey's best work.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Well, I remember specifically when this movie came out, I
- 0:23Speaker 2: was like Ryan Pavey opposite Ashley Williams, Like I didn't.
- 0:27Speaker 2: This pairing did not make any sense to me. But
- 0:31Speaker 2: it came together nicely.
- 0:33Speaker 1: It came together really nicely. Asha Williams is a delight
- 0:36Speaker 1: in the depths of winter. This tropical movie might be
- 0:41Speaker 1: just the thing that you need for a rewatch and
- 0:43Speaker 1: a re listen of this episode, So enjoy this throwback
- 0:47Speaker 1: review from Girls Gun Hallmark. This is a Bramble Jam podcast.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Hey everybody, welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark. I'm Megan, I'm Wendy,
- 1:16Speaker 1: and today we're discussing Two Tickets to Paradise from Hallmarks
- 1:20Speaker 1: Summer Nights series, which originally aired on Saturday, June twenty
- 1:25Speaker 1: fifth on the Hallmark Channel. If you love this podcast,
- 1:32Speaker 1: you can talk Hallmark all day, every day in our
- 1:35Speaker 1: private Facebook group, which is also called Girls Gone Hallmark,
- 1:39Speaker 1: which you can find by searching Girls Gone Hallmark on
- 1:42Speaker 1: Facebook or via the handylink in our show notes, which
- 1:45Speaker 1: you can always find at Megan and Wendy dot com
- 1:49Speaker 1: slash podcast.
- 1:50Speaker 2: You can also email us at Megan and Wendy at
- 1:52Speaker 2: gmail dot com anytime. I love the Facebook group. I
- 1:56Speaker 2: was over there yesterday. I asked some questions, because this
- 2:00Speaker 2: is just a side note. I was recently on a
- 2:03Speaker 2: flight and they had Hallmark movies to stream, which I've
- 2:06Speaker 2: never seen before. And apparently Delta Airlines and Hallmark Channel
- 2:12Speaker 2: has like this deal. It's been around for like a
- 2:16Speaker 2: year maybe, So they had Hallmark movies on there, but
- 2:18Speaker 2: they only had Christmas movies, which I thought was kind
- 2:22Speaker 2: of funny, but maybe the worst selection of Christmas movies.
- 2:26Speaker 2: So I was kind of disappointed. So I was asking
- 2:29Speaker 2: in the Facebook group yesterday, like, hey, they had Coyote
- 2:33Speaker 2: Creek Christmas and Christmas at Castlehart and can you guess
- 2:37Speaker 2: what the third one was? Do you have any guesses? Megan?
- 2:40Speaker 1: Well, if it was terrible, was it a timeless Christmas?
- 2:44Speaker 2: You know, here's the truth. I can't actually remember what
- 2:46Speaker 2: the third That's why I was hoping people would just
- 2:50Speaker 2: fill in the planks. Jingle Bell Bride, Hey, I like
- 2:54Speaker 2: jingle Bell. No, I knew that, Maybe I guess I didn't.
- 2:58Speaker 2: I was thinking it was on the twelfth date of Christmas.
- 3:01Speaker 1: That one was actually like great movie.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Yes, So anyway, we were talking about that in the
- 3:07Speaker 2: Facebook group yesterday, and we were also discussing this morning
- 3:11Speaker 2: the raging homophobia.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Oh on, I am popped in this morning.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Well, I just was like saying, Hey, if you guys
- 3:20Speaker 2: liked this movie, head on over to IMDb, leave a
- 3:25Speaker 2: leave a positive comment on the way that you like
- 3:29Speaker 2: Hallmark the direction they're going. They're gonna see it. But
- 3:33Speaker 2: we'll talk about the terrible comments on IMDb in a
- 3:36Speaker 2: little bit.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Well, it's funny that you say that, because I have
- 3:39Speaker 1: a screenshot of a review that got me all fired
- 3:42Speaker 1: up shortly. So okay, cool, same page. Awesome synopsis of
- 3:47Speaker 1: this movie.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I sure do. When two weddings are ruined by the
- 3:53Speaker 2: bride and the other groom both getting left at the altar,
- 3:57Speaker 2: they still decide to take their honeymoons, not know they
- 4:00Speaker 2: are headed to the same resort. In Hawaii. Sorrying, Ashley
- 4:03Speaker 2: Williams writing Baby and Mary Margaret Humes.
- 4:08Speaker 1: All right, it's time for news and notes. Would you
- 4:11Speaker 1: like some Hallmarky news and notes firs?
- 4:13Speaker 2: Yes, Yes I would. What's happening?
- 4:15Speaker 1: Well, First of all, we do not watch When Calls
- 4:18Speaker 1: the Heart. It's nine seasons in. I feel like the
- 4:22Speaker 1: ship has sailed and we could not possibly catch it. However,
- 4:25Speaker 1: it has a very strong and vocal fan base on Twitter,
- 4:29Speaker 1: and they have been begging for an announcement of season
- 4:33Speaker 1: ten after the finale of season nine, and Hallmark has
- 4:36Speaker 1: finally given the people what they have asked for. When
- 4:38Speaker 1: Calls the Heart has been renewed for season ten.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Oh, It's like the Gray's Anatomy of Hallmark. It just
- 4:44Speaker 2: keeps going. Huh right.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Also in Hallmark News, you may have seen a preview
- 4:51Speaker 1: last night or Unthinkably Good Things, and I happen to
- 4:56Speaker 1: come across a tweet from the Hallmark Channel about this movie.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Thinkably Good Things is part of Mahogany, which is a
- 5:02Speaker 1: new film franchise coming to the Hallmark Channel in August
- 5:07Speaker 1: celebrating black excellence. This is the kickoff movie and it
- 5:10Speaker 1: features music from Lizzo stop it. I mean, hello, welcome
- 5:16Speaker 1: to Hallmark Lizzo.
- 5:17Speaker 2: I didn't see any promotion for that, but oh I
- 5:22Speaker 2: love Lizzo so much. I'm so excited, so you doo
- 5:26Speaker 2: that's amazing, super cool. Now. The only thing I saw
- 5:30Speaker 2: aired in the commercials was Christmas in July, so.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Lots of that, lots of that coming.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, And my husband's like, oh Christmas in
- 5:40Speaker 2: July perked right up.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I was like, oh really, I'm so surprised that you
- 5:45Speaker 1: are excited about this.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Okay, cool.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Well, my husband, as everybody knows, is a huge Hallmark
- 5:51Speaker 1: Christmas fan, does not really watch anything except occasionally a
- 5:54Speaker 1: fall movie. So he has already started recording. By that,
- 5:59Speaker 1: I mean he had asked me to record because I
- 6:01Speaker 1: am a tech support in this house Homemark Christmas movies,
- 6:05Speaker 1: and so we have been recording the throwback movies on
- 6:09Speaker 1: movies industeries. Yeah, he has been watching those nightly and
- 6:13Speaker 1: he will not watch anything else honestly, probably for the
- 6:17Speaker 1: next several weeks. So we're all in on Christmas in July.
- 6:21Speaker 2: You couldn't get him to watch Two Tickets in Paradise.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Two Tickets two Paradis, So.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I asked and I was actually watching it while he
- 6:29Speaker 1: was watching another Christmas movie and there was a preview
- 6:34Speaker 1: for two Tickets to Paradise on his screen while I
- 6:36Speaker 1: was watching mine, and I was like poking in with
- 6:37Speaker 1: my headphones and I was like.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Huh huh very meta. Wow, uh yeah, I asked my husband.
- 6:44Speaker 2: I was like, uh, I really need to watch this movie.
- 6:47Speaker 2: I have to record tomorrow morning. Can we watch it together?
- 6:50Speaker 2: And he's like, you owe me? And I was like,
- 6:52Speaker 2: don't even start with the you owe me nonsense, mister.
- 6:55Speaker 2: I like to watch all the calmer Christmas movies, you know.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Yes, well, I'm ready to do some news and notes
- 7:02Speaker 1: about two Tickets to Paradise.
- 7:03Speaker 2: All right, let's go.
- 7:06Speaker 1: This was written by Tracy Andrene, who has written a
- 7:09Speaker 1: ton of movies, but perhaps well a ton of Hallmark movies,
- 7:12Speaker 1: I should say, but perhaps most notably she is the
- 7:16Speaker 1: writer of the Spirit of Christmas, which I still cannot
- 7:18Speaker 1: believe I have not had you watch because this movie
- 7:22Speaker 1: is so in its own league. It is about a
- 7:25Speaker 1: woman who inherits an inn that is haunted by a
- 7:28Speaker 1: ghost who she then falls in love with, and the
- 7:31Speaker 1: ghost then makes the decision to become alive to be
- 7:35Speaker 1: with her.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Oh I didn't know that's the thing. It stars Jen
- 7:39Speaker 2: Lily oh no, oh no.
- 7:43Speaker 1: But it is truly an exceptional movie and I am
- 7:48Speaker 1: thrilled by this connection.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I also looked at her writing credits and I was like, Wow,
- 7:55Speaker 2: she's written a lot of movies, but none I've ever seen,
- 7:59Speaker 2: isn't that I know? And she's run a lot of
- 8:02Speaker 2: them too, And I was like, oh, it's crazy, like
- 8:04Speaker 2: nothing in the last two years that I've watched.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Yeah, her Hallmark catalog.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Is deep, it is, it is Okay. Here is the obvious.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Filming took place on o Wahu, especially in and around Honolulu.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Some filming took place at the Royal Hawaiian Resort, and
- 8:23Speaker 2: I'm guessing that is the big pink building in this movie. Wow,
- 8:28Speaker 2: that's a pink resort. I will say that. I was
- 8:33Speaker 2: poking around and I came across an article that said
- 8:39Speaker 2: fan fab Lacey Shabert is also filming a Hawaiian themed
- 8:47Speaker 2: movie on the island of Oahu. So I don't know
- 8:53Speaker 2: when that's gonna come out.
- 8:54Speaker 1: But you're doing Aloha Christmas.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Maybe maybe maybe dumped at the altar, No, that's this movie. Maybe?
- 9:04Speaker 2: Uh I don't know, broken up and decides she wants
- 9:07Speaker 2: to go on a Hawaiian vacation for Christmas. Maybe ye
- 9:11Speaker 2: has that been done? I'm sure it has. I mean,
- 9:15Speaker 2: come on, okay, go ahead.
- 9:18Speaker 1: So Ryan Pavey and Ashley Williams are no strangers, two
- 9:23Speaker 1: girls gone homework, but I have some some fun facts
- 9:26Speaker 1: about each of them.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Okay, cool.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Ryan Pavie appeared in a Christina Aguilera music video for
- 9:34Speaker 1: the song Your Body What Now?
- 9:37Speaker 2: I don't even know what song is that. I don't know.
- 9:40Speaker 1: It doesn't matter. I just am imagining him like grinding
- 9:42Speaker 1: alongside shirtless Aguilera because he got his start as a
- 9:46Speaker 1: model before he became an actor.
- 9:49Speaker 2: I'm so pretty to look at he.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Is so pretty?
- 9:51Speaker 2: How many years ago was this? Hold up just a second,
- 9:55Speaker 2: I am pulling up YouTube because I need to see
- 9:58Speaker 2: this really quick.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Nine years ago in twenty twelve, he's also in the
- 10:02Speaker 1: Robin Thick sex therapy video as well as the Tony
- 10:05Speaker 1: Brexon hands tied music video.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Oh let's see a theme here.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Well, for what it's worth, the Robin Thick song that
- 10:14Speaker 1: I just pulled up is also unrecognizable, so he's getten
- 10:17Speaker 1: The deep cut music videos on these albums.
- 10:20Speaker 2: That's a nice way of putting it.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Yeah, you gotta start somewhere.
- 10:24Speaker 2: I guess so, yes, so, but he does soap so right.
- 10:29Speaker 1: He was in two hundred and eighty four episodes of
- 10:32Speaker 1: General Hospital?
- 10:33Speaker 2: Is General Hospital even on still?
- 10:36Speaker 1: Since twenty nineteen, he's almost exclusively been in Hallmark movies,
- 10:39Speaker 1: and twenty eighteen was his last appearance on General Hospital.
- 10:45Speaker 1: There are seven thousand, four hundred sixty three episodes of
- 10:51Speaker 1: General Hospital as today is June twenty eighth. The most
- 10:54Speaker 1: recently airing episode was Monday, June twenty seventh. So yes,
- 10:58Speaker 1: Jenneral Hospital is still on the air.
- 11:00Speaker 2: What other fun facts do you have about our actors?
- 11:03Speaker 1: Well, Ashley Williams was born in November nineteen seventy eight,
- 11:07Speaker 1: which makes her seven months older than Jay Castles, who
- 11:11Speaker 1: was born in June nineteen seventy nine, who plays her
- 11:13Speaker 1: mother in this film.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Oh my God, that is so funny. I was wondering
- 11:19Speaker 2: the age of that woman.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Actually, yes, and I feel like they're like, Eh, she
- 11:25Speaker 1: got a little gray in her hair, Let's make her
- 11:27Speaker 1: play the mom.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, come on, Cassie, let's put like a
- 11:32Speaker 2: let's hire our some mature women.
- 11:35Speaker 1: It's okay, It's okay.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Last that Mary Margaret Humes. She plays Rain Pavies like
- 11:42Speaker 2: I don't know, buddy, friend, She's been in a bunch
- 11:46Speaker 2: of Hallmark movies, but of course she's probably most recognized
- 11:49Speaker 2: to this gen xer as the Dawson's mom on Dawson's Creek.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Dawson's Mom.
- 11:56Speaker 2: All right, so let's talk IMD B.
- 12:02Speaker 1: So, I have a confession to make. I looked at
- 12:04Speaker 1: the IMDb reviews and just kind of scrolled and I
- 12:08Speaker 1: got to one and it made my brain short circuit.
- 12:12Speaker 1: And I didn't read any of the others. So I
- 12:14Speaker 1: don't know what the IMDb reviews as a whole are,
- 12:17Speaker 1: but this one made ready to rage.
- 12:19Speaker 2: So let me hear.
- 12:20Speaker 1: I need to know the title is, and I'm sure
- 12:22Speaker 1: you have seen it. Ironically, to me, the title is
- 12:26Speaker 1: what the other reviewers aren't saying, or maybe no one
- 12:30Speaker 1: cares anymore. Oh, then he was on to make a
- 12:37Speaker 1: truly horrific number of statements. I'm still not used to
- 12:41Speaker 1: Hallmark having genuflected to the gay agenda and their movie
- 12:44Speaker 1: making fun fact, Buddy, how about maybe they've just acknowledged
- 12:48Speaker 1: that there are lots of different kinds of people in
- 12:49Speaker 1: the world, isn't totally one actor over the top effeminate,
- 12:53Speaker 1: similar to the over the top pool boy who noticed
- 12:56Speaker 1: Reese Witherspoon's shoes in Legally Blonde, which just makes me
- 12:59Speaker 1: laugh so hard because to me, there was absolutely zero
- 13:02Speaker 1: connection between the actor and two Tickets to Paradise and
- 13:05Speaker 1: the don't stomp your last season product shoos at me,
- 13:08Speaker 1: honey actor.
- 13:08Speaker 2: From Legally That's okay. I couldn't remember, because I mean,
- 13:13Speaker 2: it is a freaking thirty year old reference.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Here Apparently I got under jfen five three oh five
- 13:19Speaker 1: eighths shoes, I mean.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Skin, Oh my god, go ahead.
- 13:27Speaker 1: He goes on. Otherwise, the story is okay, the leads
- 13:30Speaker 1: do okay, record and fast forward. If kids are watching,
- 13:32Speaker 1: perhaps just look, this was not the week. This was
- 13:36Speaker 1: not the week to come at me with your blatant homophobia,
- 13:40Speaker 1: because my tolerance for intolerance and the world at large
- 13:47Speaker 1: doesn't exist anymore. Yes, I am done with you, is
- 13:52Speaker 1: what I'm saying. I wished this guy hot and itchy
- 13:57Speaker 1: sheets for the rest of his life, like, may you
- 14:02Speaker 1: never find the cool side of the pillow ever again?
- 14:05Speaker 2: Sir? Yeah, his comment I read there were maybe two
- 14:11Speaker 2: or three others as well, and it was basically like,
- 14:14Speaker 2: how dare Hallmark rate this? PG? Thirteen? This is not
- 14:19Speaker 2: family friendly? Oh my gosh, two men are kissing. I
- 14:23Speaker 2: was like, really, people wake up, Like come on. So
- 14:29Speaker 2: look in our Facebook group, somebody asked like, I don't
- 14:32Speaker 2: know how to leave an IMDb review. So I am
- 14:35Speaker 2: doing a small tutorial over there later today. Look, I've
- 14:39Speaker 2: said here time and time again. IMDb is very hard
- 14:42Speaker 2: to use on the back end. But if you are
- 14:45Speaker 2: just like a regular viewer who wants to leave a review,
- 14:48Speaker 2: I think you just maybe need to create an account
- 14:51Speaker 2: and click the movie that you want to leave a
- 14:53Speaker 2: review on, and please do so. Because I truly believe
- 14:58Speaker 2: that Hallmark is moving in this new direction. I'm here
- 15:01Speaker 2: for it. They need to hear the voices that support it.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I agree, And I think, you know, the people who
- 15:08Speaker 1: are angry are always going to be the ones who
- 15:10Speaker 1: leave any sort of review. Sure of, voices have more
- 15:13Speaker 1: to say, and there are real people behind these movies
- 15:17Speaker 1: and beyond just like a big bad I mean, Hallmark
- 15:20Speaker 1: is a huge network and corporation. The people who make
- 15:25Speaker 1: these movies and write these movies, and act in these
- 15:27Speaker 1: movies and direct these movies. Are real people with real
- 15:30Speaker 1: lives who want to hear other, real people saying kind
- 15:35Speaker 1: and lovely things, and not just this sort of hate
- 15:39Speaker 1: spewed about their race.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Exactly. Let's talk about first impressions.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Go ahead, what's yours?
- 15:52Speaker 2: This is Paype's best movie.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Oh well, I agree with you there, man. My first
- 15:58Speaker 1: impression is I knew there were going to be hula lessons.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Oh, always right. I think you mentioned that in our
- 16:05Speaker 2: preview episode, that these like destination movies always have like
- 16:11Speaker 2: the activities.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Yes, and I appreciate that it was a little bit
- 16:15Speaker 1: of a hula lesson with a twist. We did have
- 16:17Speaker 1: a lot of the classic Hawaiian movie tropes, hula lesson,
- 16:22Speaker 1: lay making, snorkeling. I didn't hate any of it.
- 16:25Speaker 2: But it was as expected.
- 16:27Speaker 1: It was as expected. I felt indicated.
- 16:30Speaker 2: You know what was not expected, m was that three
- 16:33Speaker 2: legged race. And let me tell you, my husband and
- 16:35Speaker 2: I would have killed each other. Oh me doing a
- 16:38Speaker 2: three legged race, There's no way we would have won.
- 16:42Speaker 2: He would have been dragging my dead body behind.
- 16:46Speaker 1: You know, you watched Survivor or have in the past
- 16:49Speaker 1: of course, you know how often they will bring like
- 16:52Speaker 1: a family member or loved one on for a special activity.
- 16:57Speaker 1: He's like, if I ever go on Survivor, please don't
- 16:59Speaker 1: be please send like, please send my friends, send my.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Strapping teenage son and not my forty plus year old wife.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Or my like college basketball coaching best friend. Like you know,
- 17:16Speaker 1: so I really I'm with you on that one, but
- 17:19Speaker 1: I love you, but just.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Please stay home. So I just thought it was such
- 17:24Speaker 2: an odd like competition for a Hawaiian resort.
- 17:29Speaker 1: I don't it was.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Bizarre, super bizarre.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Well, and like how I think they're like, well, how
- 17:35Speaker 1: do we get these two people to be physically close
- 17:37Speaker 1: to each other any situation?
- 17:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know, because you're not gonna do like
- 17:43Speaker 2: a dance lesson because you got to do a hula
- 17:46Speaker 2: dance lesson?
- 17:47Speaker 1: Right, all right, what do we like about this movie?
- 17:51Speaker 2: Hey? I really liked their playful ribbing of each other.
- 17:56Speaker 2: I thought it was funny. I wasn't too sure about
- 18:01Speaker 2: how these two actors would work together, based on like
- 18:06Speaker 2: the energy that they put out in their movies, but
- 18:11Speaker 2: somehow it like worked well with their characters, so it
- 18:15Speaker 2: worked all together.
- 18:19Speaker 1: I wrote Ryan and Ashley have complimentary energy in this movie.
- 18:24Speaker 1: We had talked in our preview episode. We were concerned
- 18:26Speaker 1: about that she goes real high, he can go real mellow,
- 18:30Speaker 1: and I just thought they met each other in the
- 18:32Speaker 1: middle so nicely.
- 18:34Speaker 2: I agree.
- 18:36Speaker 1: I agree on my list of likes is Ryan freakin' babe.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Thank you. Finally you've come to come to the Pavy
- 18:47Speaker 2: side of things.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Look, let's be clear, I've always liked Ryan Pavey, but
- 18:53Speaker 1: you will admit he can be a little flat.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Real stiff, buttoned up, kind of two robotic and flat. Yes, yes,
- 19:03Speaker 2: for sure, so pretty.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I've been rooting for him all along, and I feel
- 19:06Speaker 1: like he finally showed up. Please make more movies with Ashley.
- 19:10Speaker 1: You two are a dream team. It was a great pairing.
- 19:14Speaker 2: I mean, I just can we just talk about him
- 19:16Speaker 2: some more. This salt and pepper hair that he has
- 19:22Speaker 2: is real attractive, beautiful eyes, great lips. Tons of shirtless
- 19:27Speaker 2: scenes in this movie. And I don't mean to sit
- 19:30Speaker 2: here and like get all hot and bothered and objectified
- 19:33Speaker 2: mister Pady, but he looked great.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Look, I don't think mister Pevey minds the objectification as
- 19:40Speaker 1: he's like, would you like me to surf in this movie.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Yes, please, Yeah, I'm saying Tyler Hines scoot over a
- 19:46Speaker 2: little bit.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:48Speaker 2: You know, I liked Ryan's relaxed vibe in this, and
- 19:54Speaker 2: I mean that in like every movie we see him
- 19:57Speaker 2: in he's so buttoned up right, and he's just like
- 20:01Speaker 2: in flip flops and like board shorts and just very
- 20:05Speaker 2: like kind of casual. I mean still like not high energy.
- 20:10Speaker 2: He's very Ryan baby, but like I just wanted to
- 20:14Speaker 2: hang out with him. Yeah, yeah, yeah, snorkeling something. I
- 20:19Speaker 2: liked it.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Yeah, let's go some of the sea turtles, Ryan, dude?
- 20:23Speaker 1: Was that real?
- 20:24Speaker 2: It looked real?
- 20:25Speaker 1: Right? I thought it looked real when they were swimming
- 20:29Speaker 1: around with them. But you know, as you know you've
- 20:32Speaker 1: been to Hawaii, the sea turtles are protected. There are
- 20:36Speaker 1: many places where you can see sea turtles, especially on
- 20:39Speaker 1: O Wahuo, but you are not allowed to touch them. So
- 20:42Speaker 1: I I don't know what the filming rules around that
- 20:46Speaker 1: aren't like how close they can get good questioning their environment.
- 20:50Speaker 1: But I did think that looked real. There were some
- 20:52Speaker 1: other like which I'll talk about later, but like the
- 20:54Speaker 1: whale scene and the dolphins, which were obviously like b
- 20:57Speaker 1: roll that were just cut in because they weren't in the.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Show with them, right.
- 21:02Speaker 1: I thought those sea turtles were either incredibly great CGI
- 21:06Speaker 1: or or it could have been not the two of them.
- 21:10Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 21:11Speaker 2: I believe that, good question. Yeah, I don't know. We mean,
- 21:15Speaker 2: we need some more insider information on this. I know
- 21:19Speaker 2: sea turtles, not personally. I had heard the story that
- 21:24Speaker 2: they're mean, like they will bite you. You don't want
- 21:26Speaker 2: to get close to him.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Interesting, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I know sea turtles.
- 21:33Speaker 2: I don't. I don't know jack about sea turtles, to
- 21:36Speaker 2: be honest, but I had heard a story one time
- 21:38Speaker 2: when I was in Hawaii that some guy got was
- 21:42Speaker 2: trying to touch them and you're not supposed to.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Heck, you definitely not supposed to. I honestly think it's illegal.
- 21:47Speaker 2: I think it is. And he was bitten by one
- 21:49Speaker 2: and then had to go to the hospital and lied
- 21:53Speaker 2: because I didn't want to get Tracy. I don't. Yeah,
- 21:56Speaker 2: down a dark alley. Yeah, I don't know.
- 21:58Speaker 1: A couple of little things that I like. I loved
- 22:00Speaker 1: the autocorrect scene. I thought it was really well done,
- 22:04Speaker 1: so relatable, totally right. I just laughed out loud. I
- 22:07Speaker 1: was like, that's me. I mean sometimes these texting scenes
- 22:11Speaker 1: can really date the movies and like, could you have
- 22:13Speaker 1: invested twenty more seconds into making this look like an
- 22:17Speaker 1: actual foam texting interface and they did a great job.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, I agree. I did see a comment
- 22:24Speaker 2: on IMDb that the text was not big enough for
- 22:28Speaker 2: viewers to see at home, and I don't have to
- 22:30Speaker 2: do with that to pause it to read it, so.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Especially based on the size of your TV. Yeah, I
- 22:36Speaker 1: could see that.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I like it when they do texting scenes and they
- 22:40Speaker 1: pop up the bubbles like outside of the phone too.
- 22:43Speaker 2: I love it. I love it. A hotel concierge played
- 22:49Speaker 2: by Kimmy bal Milli row Yeah, I butchered it. I
- 22:53Speaker 2: don't know how to say her last name, but she
- 22:55Speaker 2: was adorable.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Yeah, ky Lani loved her and she acts in a
- 23:02Speaker 1: number of Hawaii Bass shows like Hawaii five Oh and
- 23:06Speaker 1: Magnum p I and Dougie Houser Dougie Hauser. Well it's
- 23:11Speaker 1: not Doogie Howser Dougie Dougie kamea Looha md oh?
- 23:16Speaker 2: Is that an episode of the Disney movie a Disney show?
- 23:20Speaker 1: Yes, it is a Disney Plus series.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Cute. I adored her when she and Ashley Hannah were
- 23:30Speaker 2: when they were saying goodbye at the end, and she
- 23:33Speaker 2: was like, if you ever come back to a wa
- 23:34Speaker 2: who comes in? And I was like, why aren't you guys
- 23:37Speaker 2: like exchanging you know, social medias like friends, You guys
- 23:44Speaker 2: can be friends.
- 23:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, the world is wide.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Yeah. She was cute.
- 23:51Speaker 1: I also liked supporting character Alice, as you mentioned, played
- 23:56Speaker 1: Mary Martys Doom.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Oh sorry my bad, yeah, Marry Mark. I was a.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Huge fan of the sister or the mom honestly. I
- 24:02Speaker 1: mean I didn't dislike them. They just didn't. There was
- 24:05Speaker 1: nothing particularly striking about either of them to me. I agree.
- 24:09Speaker 1: I honestly thought the sister was.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Like annoying, oh.
- 24:12Speaker 1: A little yeah, you know, in the ways that we
- 24:16Speaker 1: sometimes find Ashley Williams overwhelming, which I did not find
- 24:19Speaker 1: her to be in this movie. I thought the sister
- 24:20Speaker 1: had that energy.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Yes, I mean, I just feel like this is such
- 24:24Speaker 2: a missed opportunity, Like why wouldn't what's her name, Kimberly Williams, Paisley,
- 24:30Speaker 2: Why wouldn't she be like, yeah, let me go out
- 24:32Speaker 2: to Hawaii and work for half a day to film
- 24:35Speaker 2: these scenes, like right, put the real sister in it.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Like fans would freak out about that, you.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Know, I know they have such energy, such good energy together.
- 24:44Speaker 2: You know what I really liked there was there were
- 24:46Speaker 2: some times when they were like walking and talking. They
- 24:48Speaker 2: were doing a lot of walking and talking, and she
- 24:50Speaker 2: was asking some really good questions about him. She said
- 24:54Speaker 2: something about like him not knowing himself and maybe therefore
- 24:58Speaker 2: that was the demise of their real the relationship with
- 25:01Speaker 2: Becca I think that's her name, And I just was
- 25:04Speaker 2: like it just got deep enough that I was like,
- 25:08Speaker 2: these are really cool things to think about, Like we
- 25:12Speaker 2: weren't getting like the typical Hallmark movie. I liked the writing.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Yes, me too, I thought. I thought it was thoughtful
- 25:22Speaker 1: and well done. Maybe that's why we haven't seen a
- 25:26Speaker 1: recent movie from Tracy Andrene, because she's not churning out
- 25:28Speaker 1: seventeen a year.
- 25:29Speaker 2: So good point, valid points. I like that this wasn't
- 25:37Speaker 2: a typical rushed romance. I mean, it was predictable at
- 25:41Speaker 2: the end, and I'm glad they got together, but like
- 25:44Speaker 2: it wasn't like I love you, We're still on the island.
- 25:46Speaker 2: It's only been a week, you know. I thought it
- 25:49Speaker 2: felt very organic. These were two people who found a
- 25:53Speaker 2: friendship with each other out of a really shitty circumstance.
- 25:58Speaker 2: I just it was. It was just good. It was good.
- 26:01Speaker 2: The other thing I really liked is when Marcus shows
- 26:04Speaker 2: up to the island and Hannah wasn't taking any of
- 26:07Speaker 2: his bs, yes, you know, like and he kind of
- 26:10Speaker 2: like mad dogged pavee a little bit like I can't
- 26:13Speaker 2: remember the line exactly, but she was like, you want
- 26:17Speaker 2: to talk, Let's talk, you know, Like I was like,
- 26:20Speaker 2: good for you, good for you anyway, which was I
- 26:24Speaker 2: agree that she.
- 26:25Speaker 1: The entire time, you could tell that she wasn't immediately
- 26:28Speaker 1: thrilled to see him. She wasn't like, thank god, You've
- 26:30Speaker 1: come to rescue me, which made it so weird that
- 26:33Speaker 1: she was like, yeah, I'm going to go home with him?
- 26:35Speaker 1: Like what?
- 26:36Speaker 2: I Yeah, I was kind of disappointed by that, but
- 26:39Speaker 2: I get that they had to do it a but
- 26:41Speaker 2: she like, why why she would like come to this
- 26:47Speaker 2: realization that he was not her dude and she's still
- 26:51Speaker 2: left with him.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Yeah. I wonder, you know, her mom was saying, you
- 26:54Speaker 1: need to come home and talk to Marcus. I wonder
- 26:56Speaker 1: if there was some sense of obligation there. I kind
- 27:00Speaker 1: of would have liked an extra scene of her talking
- 27:03Speaker 1: to Kylani or someone saying, you know, I feel like
- 27:06Speaker 1: I have an obligation to see this through.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Well okay. That brings me to a question that I
- 27:11Speaker 2: was going to ask you. Okay, the mom she's talking
- 27:15Speaker 2: to her on the phone and she's like, you need
- 27:17Speaker 2: to come home, you need you have an obligation to
- 27:19Speaker 2: talk to him, like and Ashley says, like about what
- 27:23Speaker 2: and she's like getting married? And I was like, here's
- 27:26Speaker 2: my question to you. Would you even reconsider revisiting Mary
- 27:32Speaker 2: and a dude who left you at the altar?
- 27:33Speaker 1: No?
- 27:34Speaker 2: Never, It'd be like over right, like goodbye?
- 27:38Speaker 1: You know, would twenty five year old me, which is
- 27:40Speaker 1: how old I was when I got married, be strong
- 27:42Speaker 1: enough to make that decision. I don't. I'd like to
- 27:45Speaker 1: think no. But watching this I had that same thought,
- 27:48Speaker 1: like absolutely not. Know, we're done, Like you didn't have
- 27:52Speaker 1: the respect for me to do this even twenty four
- 27:54Speaker 1: hours ahead of our wedding. You waited until I was
- 27:56Speaker 1: in a white dress and all of our friends and
- 27:59Speaker 1: family were there. No, we're done.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, but you know, character Hannah is
- 28:06Speaker 2: not twenty five.
- 28:08Speaker 1: So no, no, no, no, I no, I know. I
- 28:10Speaker 1: was just wondering thinking about myself. Would I be strong
- 28:12Speaker 1: enough to me?
- 28:13Speaker 2: Yeah? I don't. I don't know, I don't. That would
- 28:16Speaker 2: be a hard decision to make because you because I
- 28:18Speaker 2: think like you have the weight of family on you
- 28:21Speaker 2: at that point, and we've we've paid all this money
- 28:24Speaker 2: and blah blah blah blah. You know what I mean.
- 28:26Speaker 2: It's harder to walk away from a wedding than it
- 28:28Speaker 2: is to get married.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Oh, one hundred percent. And I have told this story before,
- 28:34Speaker 1: but when I was engaged, every single time I talked
- 28:36Speaker 1: to my dad, he would say, if SU still want
- 28:38Speaker 1: to get married? Because he didn't want me to get married,
- 28:40Speaker 1: but because he didn't want me to feel like I
- 28:42Speaker 1: ever had got past the point of no return. And
- 28:46Speaker 1: that's a not necessarily that exact tactic. But if you
- 28:50Speaker 1: are a parent of a child getting married, I think
- 28:53Speaker 1: that's a good message to send them, like, thank you
- 28:57Speaker 1: that your life is not worth less than the money
- 29:01Speaker 1: we have paid for this way right exactly, all right?
- 29:03Speaker 2: So what did you wish for?
- 29:05Speaker 1: Really? Only one thing? Oh, let me hear Josh says,
- 29:10Speaker 1: to Becca when he they have their closure conversation that
- 29:15Speaker 1: he thinks he needs to figure out who he is
- 29:18Speaker 1: alone outside of a relationship. And one thing I was
- 29:21Speaker 1: hoping for as I was watching this was I like
- 29:24Speaker 1: them together. I want them to end up together. But
- 29:26Speaker 1: they've both been in these long term relationships, they've both
- 29:29Speaker 1: were planning to get married. They do need to be
- 29:31Speaker 1: alone for a minute and see who they are and
- 29:34Speaker 1: see if this just isn't a vacation romance. And then
- 29:39Speaker 1: he doesn't do that, and yes, they do go home,
- 29:42Speaker 1: but they're pretty much together immediately because a year later
- 29:45Speaker 1: they were married.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Yeah, the timing was weird, right, He should have stayed
- 29:49Speaker 2: in Hawaii and ran the business or whatever and then
- 29:53Speaker 2: come home and then buy a house and then run
- 29:57Speaker 2: into her, because then they've had some apart, you know.
- 30:01Speaker 1: She he only needed to be in Hawaii for a
- 30:03Speaker 1: couple of months, so I think we could have had
- 30:06Speaker 1: two months later and he's come home and he's had
- 30:08Speaker 1: this time exactly as you said. That's my wish.
- 30:11Speaker 2: Okay, I did not have one thing I wished for.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Oh can you believe that?
- 30:16Speaker 1: I cannot?
- 30:17Speaker 2: Yeah, but I have tons of did you see that? Oh?
- 30:20Speaker 1: Good. I only have two.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Oh okay, Well, Josh's fiancee Becca at the very beginning
- 30:27Speaker 2: when she like gives him the ring back or whatever.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Girlfriend has the nineties spiral perm of my teenage dreams.
- 30:37Speaker 2: She had great hair.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Really great hair, like Rebecca Gayheart hair.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Yes, I just loved it. Like man, it's a real
- 30:45Speaker 2: throwbag Megan, I know, but she's.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Like my favorite hair of all time, like as Dylan's wife. Honestly,
- 30:52Speaker 1: what she wears and her hair, it's like if I
- 30:57Speaker 1: could be any person I've ever seen on television, it
- 30:59Speaker 1: would be her.
- 31:00Speaker 2: And she's talking about Dylan on Beverly Hills and I
- 31:02Speaker 2: know two one house.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and his wife who gets murdered by her own father.
- 31:05Speaker 1: So I don't actually want to be her.
- 31:06Speaker 2: But yeah, great hair though, But this girl Becca had
- 31:10Speaker 2: great hair too, which made me wonder, like you should
- 31:14Speaker 2: because you have long, beautiful hair, you should wear your
- 31:16Speaker 2: hair curly like that, like I want you to do
- 31:20Speaker 2: like a spiral, like smaller curl all around. I want
- 31:24Speaker 2: to see what that looks like.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know how to do that. She had
- 31:28Speaker 1: curly hair.
- 31:29Speaker 2: I think your hair gets curly when you like let
- 31:33Speaker 2: it dry like naturally not like that. But yeah, you know,
- 31:37Speaker 2: they maybe like those foam tube things to make that girl.
- 31:43Speaker 1: You know, I do know what you're talking about. We
- 31:45Speaker 1: may have to try this. We'll see.
- 31:47Speaker 2: I'm just curious. It was just good hair. It was
- 31:50Speaker 2: great hair. How many activities can one do on a vacation.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Just sit down and relax?
- 31:55Speaker 2: Man, Seriously, Now, I really liked that. She was like,
- 32:00Speaker 2: give me all the drinks. Give me when she's like,
- 32:04Speaker 2: what can I order the drink that like it seems
- 32:07Speaker 2: appropriate for the morning or whatever. It was, yuh, just funny,
- 32:12Speaker 2: just funny, but like to stack your day with so
- 32:16Speaker 2: many things. I'm going to Hawaii later in the month
- 32:20Speaker 2: and we don't have one thing planned.
- 32:23Speaker 1: That's the whole point. And she does say, look, I'm
- 32:25Speaker 1: gonna take a nap by the pool. She never takes
- 32:26Speaker 1: a nap by the pool.
- 32:28Speaker 2: She says like I gotta get to my Seashell collecting
- 32:30Speaker 2: class or I gotta get to my whatever.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Doesn't make for very compelling montage making in Holler, luviies,
- 32:38Speaker 1: I suppose.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Laying by the pool reading a People magazine can't do it.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Yeah, well I have one actual dig You see that
- 32:47Speaker 1: moment and that is okay. Toward the end, when Hannah
- 32:51Speaker 1: and Marcus are breaking up, there is a moment of
- 32:55Speaker 1: silence where I watch all this with my captions on,
- 32:59Speaker 1: and so in the image, it's the back of Ashley's
- 33:02Speaker 1: head and there's no dialogue for like ten seconds, and
- 33:05Speaker 1: then it switches and you can see the front of
- 33:07Speaker 1: her head. Now when it's the back of her head,
- 33:09Speaker 1: there's a line on the screen that she does not say,
- 33:12Speaker 1: and it says something like breaking up not be the
- 33:15Speaker 1: easy choice. And then the camera angle changes and you
- 33:18Speaker 1: can see her face and she says, but I think
- 33:20Speaker 1: it's the right choice. I'm butchering the line. I didn't
- 33:22Speaker 1: write it down, but that's essentially what's happening there. I
- 33:26Speaker 1: don't know if they needed to edit something back in there,
- 33:30Speaker 1: but they they did it, and it's very obviously a
- 33:33Speaker 1: missing line. It's not just an incorrectly close caption, because
- 33:37Speaker 1: I went back and watched it, and it doesn't make
- 33:39Speaker 1: sense what you hear her say, Like, there's clearly information
- 33:43Speaker 1: missing there when she says, but it's the right thing
- 33:45Speaker 1: to do.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Oh, any interesting mistake, I mean equal eyes there. I'm impressed.
- 33:52Speaker 1: I'm actually shocked that I caught it. I was watching carefully.
- 33:55Speaker 1: I have a question. If you're kayaking and a giant
- 33:59Speaker 1: whale breaches in front of you, no.
- 34:00Speaker 2: You shit your pants?
- 34:03Speaker 1: I just wrote, would you shit your pants if whales
- 34:06Speaker 1: breach while you're kayaking?
- 34:08Speaker 2: Yeah? I mean yes, it would be mesmerizing to see, right,
- 34:14Speaker 2: But is that whal gonna eat me? No? Like I
- 34:17Speaker 2: would be rowing backwards like no.
- 34:20Speaker 1: No, And I know that those are like not people
- 34:24Speaker 1: eating whales, But it does not matter. It does not matter.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Your kayak is so lobbly. And they showed the overhead shot,
- 34:32Speaker 1: which of course was not actually like these two giant
- 34:34Speaker 1: whales next to them but absolutely not. I'm out, like,
- 34:37Speaker 1: what if they bump you and now you're in the
- 34:39Speaker 1: water with no? No, nope, no, That's.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Why I do not like to go in the ocean.
- 34:44Speaker 1: I know there are big giant animals in the ocean. Yeah,
- 34:48Speaker 1: I'm not interested. No, no, no, I put my feet
- 34:51Speaker 1: in and that's it.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Nope. Yeah, Okay, the terrible list making app Yeah, now,
- 35:00Speaker 2: curious did it appeal to you because you love a list?
- 35:03Speaker 2: I love a list. I did not love the esthetic
- 35:06Speaker 2: of the app so ugly, and I was like, why
- 35:10Speaker 2: do they keep showing it? Oh my god, he's the creator.
- 35:13Speaker 1: I couldn't.
- 35:13Speaker 2: I was like, He's like, I didn't do the coding.
- 35:17Speaker 2: I just now he did the business side of it, right,
- 35:19Speaker 2: So yeah, he was like putting that ugly design on
- 35:22Speaker 2: his partner. But like still, I was like, oh my god,
- 35:26Speaker 2: that's so terrible, terrible.
- 35:29Speaker 1: And then I wonder better in Canada.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Right, And then I wonder like does that actually exist?
- 35:34Speaker 2: I mean, we make our own like notes like that
- 35:37Speaker 2: in our notes app, but like, is there an app
- 35:40Speaker 2: out there that exists like that?
- 35:42Speaker 1: Oh for list making?
- 35:43Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 35:44Speaker 1: Oh yes?
- 35:45Speaker 2: Many do they look better than that one? Because what
- 35:48Speaker 2: was it called? Like it had a stupid name too.
- 35:51Speaker 1: They'd have to look better. I mean it would be
- 35:52Speaker 1: impossible not to.
- 35:54Speaker 2: And finally, for me, I really really loved that they
- 35:57Speaker 2: used Eddie Money's two Tickets to pair because I love
- 36:01Speaker 2: that song. It makes It's a feel good song every
- 36:03Speaker 2: time it comes on. I love it, love it, love it.
- 36:06Speaker 1: I wholeheartedly agree. As I was prepping to watch this movie,
- 36:09Speaker 1: I was singing.
- 36:10Speaker 2: Two dig its.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Look, I won't do that to anybody, But it didn't
- 36:14Speaker 1: occur to me until immediately before sitting down as that
- 36:17Speaker 1: song was in my head that that song might be
- 36:19Speaker 1: in this movie, and I was thrilled to see that
- 36:21Speaker 1: they followed through.
- 36:22Speaker 2: There. I agree.
