- 1:27Speaker 4: out and then that night the governor will give his
- 1:29Speaker 4: State of the State's speech and they get down to business.
- 1:31Speaker 4: Next Thursday, we'll talk to Delicate Lewis about that, plus
- 1:34Speaker 4: the big news in town, you know, the last couple
- 1:35Speaker 4: of days, Charleston Mayor Amy Schuler Goodwin announcing at City
- 1:39Speaker 4: Council during the State of the City address on Monday
- 1:41Speaker 4: night that the City of Charleston is least looking at
- 1:45Speaker 4: some talks with a whole group that owns the Town
- 1:48Speaker 4: Center Mall that would allow the city to take over
- 1:50Speaker 4: the mall. Now we have stories posted about it, of
- 1:53Speaker 4: course wv Metronews dot com at WCCHS Network dot com.
- 1:56Speaker 4: I spent a lot of time on the last the
- 2:00Speaker 4: last twenty four to forty eight hours, especially twenty four
- 2:03Speaker 4: hours talking about it with the mayor yesterday on this show,
- 2:07Speaker 4: and then later I met your News midday. Then I
- 2:08Speaker 4: made an appearance on talk Line with Wilson Meadows to
- 2:11Speaker 4: talk about it yesterday. So we've heard from the mayor
- 2:14Speaker 4: and you've obviously heard from me on it, but I
- 2:15Speaker 4: want to hear from you. We had some text yesterday
- 2:18Speaker 4: and got them in there as best I could. But
- 2:21Speaker 4: towards the latter part of the show today, turn it
- 2:24Speaker 4: over to you with your thoughts on the town Center.
- 2:27Speaker 4: And you know, it looks like the city of Charleston,
- 2:30Speaker 4: As I said, that's the plan, and we're sort of
- 2:32Speaker 4: long way away from that, but that the whole group
- 2:37Speaker 4: good possibility that you're going to turn the town Center
- 2:39Speaker 4: over the city. So what does what does that mean? Well,
- 2:41Speaker 4: the city's not in the in the retail business, so
- 2:45Speaker 4: just keep that in mind. That's not what they do.
- 2:47Speaker 4: So we'll talk about it. You can weigh in if
- 2:50Speaker 4: you want to text me anytime during the show courtesy
- 2:51Speaker 4: of Tony the Taylor three zero four nine three five

- 2:56Speaker 4: You can call me big Lely Pigley Wiggly Hotline three
- 2:58Speaker 4: zero four three four five fifty eight fifty eight. We'll
- 3:01Speaker 4: get into all that a little bit later on, but
- 3:03Speaker 4: right now, it's Girl Scout Cookie time. Joe Lgates Girl Scouts,
- 3:08Speaker 4: the Bike Diamond Counsel is here. Welcome to the show.
- 3:10Speaker 4: How you doing?
- 3:11Speaker 6: Absolutely? Thank you for having me.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Remember what was going on? You and I were talking
- 3:14Speaker 4: about this off the air, what was going on at
- 3:16Speaker 4: this point last year?
- 3:17Speaker 6: All that horrible snow, all that horrible snow it.
- 3:21Speaker 4: Hit on Sunday and we talked about that. And I'm
- 3:24Speaker 4: a weather geek, so just look over me here last
- 3:28Speaker 4: this time of year ago, on that Sunday, it started
- 3:30Speaker 4: off real gray whatever, and we had snow and we
- 3:33Speaker 4: put ice on top of that. Then we had snow,
- 3:35Speaker 4: basically shut down everything for a couple of days. And
- 3:40Speaker 4: you go from that into this morning and I pull
- 3:43Speaker 4: in out here. I get here about seven or so
- 3:45Speaker 4: at eleven eleven and get out of the car and
- 3:48Speaker 4: I've got a light jacket on. I'm thinking, I don't
- 3:50Speaker 4: even need this jacket. What a difference a year makes.
- 3:53Speaker 7: Right, One thing remains the same. Girl Scout cookies are here.
- 3:57Speaker 4: Trans perfect transition night. So, and you and I had
- 4:01Speaker 4: we're trading emails back and forth a couple of weeks
- 4:03Speaker 4: ago about having you on the show, and you said
- 4:06Speaker 4: at the time, you said, well, you maybe we can
- 4:08Speaker 4: bring a couple of girl Scouts with us, and that
- 4:10Speaker 4: I thought, well, that'll be a great idea. And then
- 4:12Speaker 4: I sort of think, well, they're back in school, and
- 4:14Speaker 4: that kind of goes against everything the girl Scouts are
- 4:17Speaker 4: to bust them out of school to go talk on
- 4:18Speaker 4: the radio, right, you got teach them responsibility.
- 4:20Speaker 7: Well, you know, I will say that we do really
- 4:22Speaker 7: try to provide really amazing opportunities. So we do have
- 4:25Speaker 7: girls with us at certain times. I'll come back later
- 4:28Speaker 7: in the season and bring some girls.
- 4:30Speaker 4: All right, But but right now, as you and I
- 4:32Speaker 4: were talking, like everybody's sick at this point.
- 4:35Speaker 7: Right now, I apologize.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Keep the kids away from here for right now. Okay,
- 4:41Speaker 4: we got enough sickness going on. He's building, all right,
- 4:44Speaker 4: So do is girl Scout cookie time? By the way,
- 4:46Speaker 4: thank you for the gifts over here. I appreciate that.
- 4:49Speaker 3: What do we have here?
- 4:50Speaker 1: Hold on?
- 4:52Speaker 4: Yeah, so you say explore mores that's the new one. Yeah,
- 4:55Speaker 4: we meant.
- 4:56Speaker 6: Of course, we kick off tomorrow.
- 4:57Speaker 7: We've got our amazing lineup, but we're super excited to
- 5:00Speaker 7: offer a brand new cookie, the Explore More inspired by
- 5:04Speaker 7: Exploration and influenced by Rocky Road ice Cream. It's a
- 5:08Speaker 7: great opportunity for girls to sell something new and for
- 5:12Speaker 7: our community to support the girls and offering that cookie.
- 5:16Speaker 4: All right, So it's uh, this is the definition straight
- 5:19Speaker 4: off the box. Poor Ryan, our producers licking the glass
- 5:22Speaker 4: in there right now. I got you, man, I got you,
- 5:23Speaker 4: I got you. Rocky Road ice cream inspired cookies filled
- 5:27Speaker 4: with flavors of chocolate, marshmallow and toasted almond kreme. There
- 5:32Speaker 4: a delicious may make it sound good, all right. Of
- 5:35Speaker 4: course you brought thin Mints as well, So those what
- 5:37Speaker 4: it is the most popular overall? I mean one or
- 5:40Speaker 4: two that.
- 5:41Speaker 7: Locally it's always a fight between Samoa's and thin Mints. Okay,
- 5:45Speaker 7: our customers really show up to show love for those
- 5:47Speaker 7: two specifically, But honestly, we have folks that love every
- 5:51Speaker 7: single cookie, and that's why I'm so excited to offer
- 5:53Speaker 7: the new one.
- 5:54Speaker 4: You know, I am not as big on the thin Mints,
- 5:57Speaker 4: and I'll tell you why. I love mint and I looked.
- 5:59Speaker 4: I just I've never been one that literally liked the
- 6:01Speaker 4: mixing of the two, you know, And that's okay, But
- 6:04Speaker 4: Samoa's and Docy does.
- 6:06Speaker 7: I'm all in next time when I bring the girls,
- 6:09Speaker 7: we'll bring these cookies for you.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Right, all right? So how do they decide, Doyle, I mean,
- 6:15Speaker 4: in a lab, focused groups or whatever. And then they
- 6:18Speaker 4: probably take I think you mentioned this on the show before.
- 6:20Speaker 4: They probably take recommendations from the actual girl Scouts or
- 6:23Speaker 4: what the flavor should be. But what goes into that?
- 6:25Speaker 7: So the National Organization explained that this cookie came about
- 6:29Speaker 7: through national polling. They found that Rocky Road ice cream
- 6:32Speaker 7: is actually the most popular ice cream flavor across the country,
- 6:36Speaker 7: and so in focus groups like you mentioned, they created
- 6:40Speaker 7: a couple of different cookies, and that cookie performed the highest.
- 6:44Speaker 7: Most folks don't know that we actually have two bakers
- 6:46Speaker 7: that create cookies, so different parts of the country have
- 6:48Speaker 7: different cookies. The core cookies like our thin Men's are taglong,
- 6:52Speaker 7: Samoa's those remain the same. But we actually saw that
- 6:56Speaker 7: and both of those bakers, the explore More performed the
- 6:59Speaker 7: best and really got the greatest reviews.
- 7:02Speaker 4: All right, we'll keep talking because I'm going to open
- 7:04Speaker 4: these up absolutely.
- 7:05Speaker 7: Well, I'll just go ahead and say that the sale
- 7:07Speaker 7: cakes off tomorrow. We're really excited for folks to participate
- 7:11Speaker 7: and support our girls, you know, girl Scout cookies. It's
- 7:14Speaker 7: it's more than just you know, selling cookies. The proceeds
- 7:17Speaker 7: they help create lifelong opportunities for our girls and provide
- 7:22Speaker 7: life changing experiences.
- 7:23Speaker 4: All right, Well, keep talking, because I'm distributing cookies right now.
- 7:26Speaker 6: Heck yeah.
- 7:27Speaker 7: So the best way for folks to support the sale
- 7:30Speaker 7: is to go to a local troop or find a
- 7:34Speaker 7: local Girl Scout. If you don't know a Girl Scout
- 7:37Speaker 7: in your region, you can contact the Girl Scouts of
- 7:39Speaker 7: Black Diamond Council on Facebook and we will connect you
- 7:43Speaker 7: with a local troop. We also offer online sales and
- 7:47Speaker 7: so folks can have cookies ship directly to their door.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Okay, so I brought in a couple of experts here.
- 7:54Speaker 4: I get Ryan, Ryan, our producer. Is this thing on autopilot?
- 7:59Speaker 4: I guess try you just started on and I hope
- 8:01Speaker 4: it is. Ryan is supposed to be another side of
- 8:04Speaker 4: glasses and Bobby Spry sales. Weasel Uh is in here
- 8:07Speaker 4: as well, And because all right, so if we have
- 8:10Speaker 4: you tried it? Man, Yes, it's good, it's really good.
- 8:13Speaker 4: I really like them, Bobby, I love it.
- 8:15Speaker 8: I wish I had a glass of milk to dip
- 8:17Speaker 8: it in.
- 8:18Speaker 3: That would be good, that would.
- 8:19Speaker 6: Be perfect perfect.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Could you go to some milk, Joel?
- 8:22Speaker 6: Absolutely, let me be right back.
- 8:24Speaker 4: These are these are very good. They're they're very good.
- 8:28Speaker 4: And it's a little bit more chocolately. I mean, I
- 8:29Speaker 4: know what Rocky Road is. It's a little bit more
- 8:31Speaker 4: chocolatey than what I thought they.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Would be there.
- 8:33Speaker 4: But they're they're very good.
- 8:35Speaker 6: It's like a chocolate lover's dream, really.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Cooking.
- 8:40Speaker 8: What are your favorite? Dame mine too?
- 8:43Speaker 6: No, those are the classics.
- 8:45Speaker 8: I've loved coconut since before. I should have loved them.
- 8:49Speaker 8: You know they say it's an old people's old.
- 8:53Speaker 6: There's nothing wrong with that.
- 8:55Speaker 4: I told Ryan. Ryan asked me if you were to
- 8:57Speaker 4: bring in Girl Scout cookies, and I said, well, what
- 8:59Speaker 4: I do is I said, if I've got them, you
- 9:02Speaker 4: can have them, all right, Ryan. There's two packages in here,
- 9:04Speaker 4: so so guess what. You get one and I get one. Bobby,
- 9:08Speaker 4: you want to, Okay, I'll bring them up later because
- 9:10Speaker 4: I want to get a photo with Joell, So come
- 9:12Speaker 4: back and get a picture a little bit later, Bobby,
- 9:14Speaker 4: if you don't care. How is the sales of Girl
- 9:19Speaker 4: Scout cookies changed over the years, Because I'm old enough
- 9:22Speaker 4: to remember, and I'm a lot older than you, but
- 9:23Speaker 4: I'm old enough to remember that when they would literally
- 9:26Speaker 4: go door to door, and I don't think they do they.
- 9:28Speaker 7: Do that, so we still do that. We've really kind
- 9:31Speaker 7: of shifted our focus. And of course, you know at
- 9:33Speaker 7: Girl Scott's up Black Time in council, we're so unique
- 9:35Speaker 7: and that the geography of our service region is, you know,
- 9:40Speaker 7: so different than different parts of the country. We cover
- 9:43Speaker 7: sixty one counties across four states. We have areas of
- 9:47Speaker 7: our council where that community door to door sale is
- 9:51Speaker 7: really still important. But then we also offer online sales.
- 9:55Speaker 7: Each girl that participates in the Girl Scout Cookie program
- 9:58Speaker 7: they have an opportunity to put together an online platform
- 10:01Speaker 7: so they can produce a e commerce opportunity for those
- 10:05Speaker 7: looking to support. So there's really different means of participation.
- 10:09Speaker 7: And then of course in the spring, we'll have our
- 10:11Speaker 7: Girl Scout Cookie booths and everyone knows and loves you
- 10:14Speaker 7: can expect those in late February.
- 10:19Speaker 4: I think the whole idea behind selling the Girl Scout cookies,
- 10:22Speaker 4: Joel goes back, if you look in the history, and
- 10:24Speaker 4: you and I have talked about it before, it's not
- 10:26Speaker 4: about the cookies necessarily. It's not even about raising money.
- 10:30Speaker 4: It's about it's about teaching entrepreneurship so to speak.
- 10:34Speaker 7: Yeah, So the Girl Scout Cookie program that provides five
- 10:37Speaker 7: life skills such as money management, people skills, business ethics,
- 10:41Speaker 7: and like you said, we're really trying to give girls
- 10:43Speaker 7: that curve that set them up for success later in life.
- 10:46Speaker 7: You know, we've we've had alumni go on and do
- 10:49Speaker 7: great things and went out jobs over other applicants of
- 10:54Speaker 7: job positions because they have the skills that they gain
- 10:57Speaker 7: through the Girl Scout Cookie sale. So you know, you
- 11:00Speaker 7: may look at a Girl Scout and just see it
- 11:02Speaker 7: as like a really cute, fun opportunity for a girl
- 11:04Speaker 7: to get involved, but it's really an opportunity for them
- 11:07Speaker 7: to gain lifelong skills.
- 11:09Speaker 4: The joelgates from the Black Diamond Council of Girl Scouts,
- 11:12Speaker 4: It's a Girl Scout Cookie Time. The Dave Allen Show
- 11:14Speaker 4: on five eighty line brought to you apart by Bridge
- 11:16Speaker 4: Valley Community Technical College was Bridge Valley dot edu Bridge
- 11:19Speaker 4: Valley Community Technical College. Your career starts here tech. Joel says,
- 11:23Speaker 4: love love love. They put three loves in there, love love,
- 11:26Speaker 4: love dosey does even better. Put them in the microwave
- 11:29Speaker 4: for about twenty seconds. Wow.
- 11:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 11:32Speaker 4: Do you find that a lot when you talk about
- 11:33Speaker 4: Girl Scout cookies that people do? I mean, because I
- 11:35Speaker 4: know what the thin mints, A lot of people freeze them,
- 11:37Speaker 4: freeze them. Yeah, what are some other things that you've
- 11:39Speaker 4: heard about people?
- 11:40Speaker 7: So we have a cookie adventureful. It came out a
- 11:42Speaker 7: couple of years ago. It's a Brownie inspired cookie and
- 11:46Speaker 7: people microwave that we in the office we sometimes have
- 11:50Speaker 7: fun stuff where we'll do cooking contest and create different
- 11:54Speaker 7: creations with the cookies. So it's really endless what you
- 11:57Speaker 7: can do with a Girl Scout cookie.
- 11:59Speaker 4: I mean, and I would think too again that goes
- 12:01Speaker 4: along the lines if you in your group, you may
- 12:04Speaker 4: have future future restauranteur, future chef there, you know, and
- 12:08Speaker 4: come up with different creations.
- 12:09Speaker 3: All right.
- 12:09Speaker 4: If somebody's listening right now and they want to purchase
- 12:12Speaker 4: Girl Scouts pies but they don't really you know, they
- 12:15Speaker 4: don't have kids, that don't have grandkids, that don't have
- 12:17Speaker 4: neighbors you know, that have kids or whatever. So they're
- 12:19Speaker 4: just listening right and there. So what I want some
- 12:21Speaker 4: Girl Scout cookies? How can they do that if they
- 12:23Speaker 4: if they don't have a Girl Scout that approaches them.
- 12:26Speaker 7: So starting tomorrow, we will have a live link to
- 12:29Speaker 7: our e commerce platform on the Girl Scouts of Black
- 12:32Speaker 7: Diamond Council Facebook page. Make sure that you check that
- 12:35Speaker 7: out so you can have cookie ship directly to your door.
- 12:39Speaker 4: All right, it sounds good. I'm gonna talk to deligate
- 12:41Speaker 4: Hollis Lewis and then the next segment here, so I'm
- 12:44Speaker 4: about'm gonna put him on the spot before we talk politics.
- 12:46Speaker 9: This is Joe L.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Gates from the Girl Scouts. By the way, all right, Hollis,
- 12:49Speaker 4: are you a Girl Scout cookie kund of?
- 12:50Speaker 3: Yeah? You know, yeah, I am? All right?
- 12:54Speaker 4: What's your favorite?
- 12:54Speaker 10: Do you have a like the mint? And I like
- 12:57Speaker 10: the Samoa's So yeah, those are those are my two favorites.
- 13:02Speaker 3: All right?
- 13:03Speaker 4: Well yeah, all right, so I offered you.
- 13:05Speaker 3: One of them. No, no, not not for bread. I'm red.
- 13:09Speaker 4: This is the new one, Hollis. This is the uh
- 13:11Speaker 4: uh the explore moors. Okay, Rocky Road ice cream inspired
- 13:15Speaker 4: cookies filled with the FLA didn't even get through the
- 13:17Speaker 4: definition and you're already decided. Rocky Road ice cream inspired
- 13:22Speaker 4: cookies filled with the flavors of chocolate, marshmallow and toasted
- 13:25Speaker 4: all the cream.
- 13:25Speaker 10: That sounds really good and with the thin mints, you
- 13:28Speaker 10: gotta put them in the freezing Yes, we we.
- 13:31Speaker 4: We were just talking about that about things that people
- 13:33Speaker 4: do differently because somebody texted and said, with the dosi
- 13:37Speaker 4: does put them in a microwave. I mean, I'm not
- 13:40Speaker 4: a huge sweet seed, to be honest with you, but
- 13:42Speaker 4: I do. I take it another level when it's something
- 13:44Speaker 4: that's heated and sweet. My my wife for Christmas made
- 13:48Speaker 4: this apple crisp thing and you put that in the microwave. Yeah,
- 13:53Speaker 4: that's good stuff. And plus it's apples. They're good for you.
- 13:57Speaker 3: All right?
- 13:57Speaker 4: Give us the uh the information because of ol Scott
- 14:00Speaker 4: cookie season is here. Where can people get their cookies?
- 14:03Speaker 4: What's the best way to do?
- 14:04Speaker 7: Contact your local Girl Scout, find a local troop, or
- 14:07Speaker 7: I visit the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council facebook page.
- 14:09Speaker 7: Starting in late February, early March. We're going to be
- 14:11Speaker 7: having Girl Scout Cookie booths across all of our community,
- 14:14Speaker 7: so keep an eye out, all right.
- 14:16Speaker 4: Joel Gates Black Diamond Council, Girls Cuts, thank you very
- 14:18Speaker 4: much and thank you for letting us be your guinea
- 14:20Speaker 4: pigs here.
- 14:21Speaker 6: Appreciate it. Thank you guys.
- 14:23Speaker 4: Take one of those rocket roads I want to sleeve.
- 14:26Speaker 4: I'll take it for later. You can't have the whole
- 14:29Speaker 4: sleep because because I've already promised my wife that you
- 14:33Speaker 4: get to it. We had a texture that said this
- 14:37Speaker 4: would be a great event during maybe Regatta or West
- 14:39Speaker 4: Virginia Birthday, a West Virginia version of Kids Baking Championship
- 14:43Speaker 4: kid Bakers using Girl Scout cookie.
- 14:44Speaker 6: Hey, let's do it.
- 14:45Speaker 4: I'm gonna have Brian Hughes, who is a regatta chairman
- 14:48Speaker 4: on the show coming up on Friday, so maybe I'll
- 14:50Speaker 4: bring that.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Up to Brian.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Maybe we can make that happen like it.
- 14:52Speaker 6: Let's do it.
- 14:53Speaker 4: Joe Gates Black down in Council. The Girl Scouts appreciate

- 17:27Speaker 3: My friend? I'm doing well. How are you doing today?
- 17:28Speaker 4: You didn't know that you're gonna get to come in
- 17:31Speaker 4: here and be a guinea pig today, right?
- 17:32Speaker 3: Yeah? I mean those rocky roads look amazing.
- 17:34Speaker 4: Yes, but you didn't break over.
- 17:36Speaker 3: You didn't. I didn't. I didn't, you know.
- 17:38Speaker 10: But I think when it's you know, girl scout season,
- 17:40Speaker 10: I'm gonna give me a box Atxay.
- 17:41Speaker 4: Okay, it's time.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Yeah, it's time.
- 17:42Speaker 4: That's what's That's what the Joel was here to talk about. So,
- 17:46Speaker 4: so you said you're a thin mets count.
- 17:47Speaker 10: I'm a thin Mints and I like the Samoa's now.
- 17:50Speaker 10: I started a venture out a little bit. But the
- 17:51Speaker 10: thin mints are you know, those classes, those are the
- 17:53Speaker 10: ones I like the best.
- 17:55Speaker 4: You have a good holiday season. I had a great
- 17:57Speaker 4: sweet you have a good holiday.
- 17:58Speaker 10: Six Yeah, you know, you know it's about the kids.
- 18:01Speaker 10: So they had a good Christmas and all that. So
- 18:03Speaker 10: it was it was really good. I needed at R
- 18:05Speaker 10: and R M.
- 18:07Speaker 4: Well, everybody needs it, especially with what's coming up next week. Yes,
- 18:10Speaker 4: the circus is back, and I say that in the
- 18:13Speaker 4: best possible way, but other people have said that before.
- 18:15Speaker 4: Before we get into talking about the upcoming session, I
- 18:18Speaker 4: want to ask you, of course, the House seats are
- 18:20Speaker 4: up every two years. Are you running for reelection?
- 18:22Speaker 10: Yes, I am so. I will be starting campaigning surely
- 18:25Speaker 10: after session ends. Ifout pre candidacy, I'll make it formal
- 18:29Speaker 10: here in a couple of weeks and we'll get back
- 18:32Speaker 10: to work. You'll see me at your door and knocking.
- 18:35Speaker 4: So why should people give you another chance in the
- 18:37Speaker 4: House Office.
- 18:38Speaker 10: I think what we've been able to accomplish thus far,
- 18:41Speaker 10: even though we are smaller numbers, we have you know,
- 18:44Speaker 10: stopped a lot of bad bills, and I think I've
- 18:46Speaker 10: represented you know, the people on holistically, you know, those
- 18:49Speaker 10: people who are working hard every day, working people, those
- 18:52Speaker 10: people who have families, those people who want to you know,
- 18:55Speaker 10: have a better life. And our focus on what we
- 18:57Speaker 10: call kitchen table issues. Affordability, you know, utility rates, lower rents,
- 19:02Speaker 10: being able to buy a home. Those are the foundational
- 19:05Speaker 10: issues that most West Virginia's, most Americans are focused on,
- 19:08Speaker 10: and that's what I represent.
- 19:09Speaker 4: You know, it's kind of interesting. It's going to lead
- 19:11Speaker 4: me into a question, a couple of questions down from now.
- 19:13Speaker 4: But to Speaker Handshaw had gathered some Republican delegates a
- 19:17Speaker 4: couple of weeks ago before Christmas and stated that the
- 19:19Speaker 4: primary focus was going to be on jobs, the economy,
- 19:22Speaker 4: and that was the House speaking that's what you're a
- 19:26Speaker 4: part of. Course, you was speaking to the Republicans, not
- 19:28Speaker 4: so much on social issues. You're taking that.
- 19:30Speaker 10: I mean, you know, obviously it's funny that there are
- 19:34Speaker 10: focus on that right at the you know, our kitchen
- 19:37Speaker 10: table tour, we did the whole state and that's what
- 19:39Speaker 10: we were focused on, and that's what we've been focused
- 19:42Speaker 10: on for the last several years, particularly in the House
- 19:44Speaker 10: of Delegates, is focused on again, those foundational issues that
- 19:47Speaker 10: most West Virginias care about, whether it's job it's job readiness,
- 19:51Speaker 10: workforce development, economic issues, affordability overall. So again the devil's
- 19:57Speaker 10: in the details. So we look forward to working Republicans
- 20:00Speaker 10: if they are fo truly focused on issues that are
- 20:02Speaker 10: important to West Virginia's.
- 20:04Speaker 4: That word affordability is thrown out there. That's the key word,
- 20:07Speaker 4: you know, the late twenty five, early twenty six and
- 20:10Speaker 4: across America, you know, because there are issues out there
- 20:14Speaker 4: and you can point blame, you can say it's this person,
- 20:16Speaker 4: that person, this party, that party. Whatever bottom line is
- 20:19Speaker 4: is that when groceries are so much more expensive than
- 20:21Speaker 4: what they are, and yes, gas prices have gone down,
- 20:24Speaker 4: and we all can appreciate that. However, when you go
- 20:28Speaker 4: to your grocery store and everything is more expensive than
- 20:32Speaker 4: what it was this time last year, Republican, Democrat, liberal, conservative, Hollis's,
- 20:36Speaker 4: that causes people a lot of pause.
- 20:38Speaker 3: One hundred percent.
- 20:39Speaker 10: And we can't price people out of the market in totality, right,
- 20:43Speaker 10: because when we talk about affordability, it's not just your
- 20:46Speaker 10: groceries while those are rising, it's your utility rates, it's
- 20:50Speaker 10: your ability to go to senior kids to college. It
- 20:53Speaker 10: is your ability to afford rent or buy a house.
- 20:56Speaker 10: You know, we have to get back to a point
- 20:58Speaker 10: where we hold not only government are accountable, but private
- 21:02Speaker 10: industry accountable, and we cannot price people out the market
- 21:05Speaker 10: or at the very least right these prices without raising wages.
- 21:09Speaker 10: Those things don't go together. So we have to find
- 21:11Speaker 10: creative solutions so that way people can just be afford
- 21:14Speaker 10: to live and have a chance for ulability.
- 21:17Speaker 4: What can what can the legislative body do about that?
- 21:21Speaker 3: Though?
- 21:21Speaker 4: As a legislator, what can you do about that?
- 21:23Speaker 14: Well?
- 21:24Speaker 10: I think we can again we can focus, like we've
- 21:28Speaker 10: previously said, we can focus on job development. We can
- 21:30Speaker 10: focus on you know, bringing industries, making it so where
- 21:33Speaker 10: industries feel comfortable coming here, give you know, adequate tax
- 21:38Speaker 10: breaks while you know, advocating that those industries hire locally,
- 21:42Speaker 10: that those industries are going to be good actors. We
- 21:45Speaker 10: can focus on things like PI, where you know, a
- 21:49Speaker 10: large portion of West Virginia is under PI, whether you're
- 21:52Speaker 10: working for the state or you have a family member
- 21:53Speaker 10: who's working for the state and you're under their insurance.
- 21:55Speaker 10: So we have to figure out a way to fund
- 21:57Speaker 10: that because it's steadily rising. I think there's a five
- 22:00Speaker 10: percent raises coming and then potentially in a year or
- 22:03Speaker 10: two it's going to be another fourteen to fifteen percent raise,
- 22:06Speaker 10: So we have to find creative solutions. One thing we've
- 22:08Speaker 10: talked about is, you know, legalizing adult used cannabis. We've
- 22:12Speaker 10: seen other states like Ohio have billion dollars in taxable revenue,
- 22:16Speaker 10: so that could be a pathway to you know, remedy
- 22:19Speaker 10: some of those issues. In addition, you know, other issues
- 22:22Speaker 10: that are more basic. You know, we have to figure
- 22:24Speaker 10: out infrastructure, so our residents have clean water, we have
- 22:28Speaker 10: you know, adequate internet service, so those individuals who wish
- 22:31Speaker 10: to come to Western who move to West Virginia work remotely,
- 22:33Speaker 10: will feel comfortable doing so. So I believe those are
- 22:37Speaker 10: a lot of the things that we can do at
- 22:38Speaker 10: that level.
- 22:39Speaker 4: I want to go back to cannabis for a moment.
- 22:41Speaker 4: This is something that's been debated. Of course, West Virginia
- 22:43Speaker 4: a couple of years ago legalized medical marijuana. That's still
- 22:46Speaker 4: kind of a mess. You know, it's still not you
- 22:48Speaker 4: know where, it's still not where where it should be.
- 22:51Speaker 4: That's my opinion. But is there enough support for legalizing
- 22:57Speaker 4: cannabis in West Virginia for recreational use for adults?
- 23:00Speaker 10: I mean, again, it's one of the things we would
- 23:02Speaker 10: like to see on the ballot. We've introduced several pieces
- 23:05Speaker 10: and iterations of legislation, whether it be locally, you can
- 23:09Speaker 10: at a county level, individuals in that county can vote
- 23:11Speaker 10: on it. Right, we've seen were medical marijuana. There's thirty
- 23:16Speaker 10: four million dollars just sitting around, setting around. Yeah, it
- 23:19Speaker 10: could be used for something. Again, that's a drop in
- 23:21Speaker 10: the bucket when it comes to an overall state budget,
- 23:23Speaker 10: but it can be used for something, so we can
- 23:25Speaker 10: generate that much revenue. And the thing about it is
- 23:28Speaker 10: from a you know what did he say? The backyard brawl,
- 23:31Speaker 10: the competitive spirit that we hope to implement. We're losing
- 23:35Speaker 10: in that because we have individuals who, particularly on our
- 23:38Speaker 10: border states, who are jumping across Ohio and you know,
- 23:41Speaker 10: getting what they need over there, So why not just
- 23:44Speaker 10: keep them home? So I think those are things that
- 23:46Speaker 10: we could do and hopefully we can at least get
- 23:49Speaker 10: in on the ballot to have the people voices heard.
- 23:54Speaker 4: I'm going to throw this out there about the ballot
- 23:56Speaker 4: issue when it comes to cannabis because I have a
- 23:57Speaker 4: good friend of mine who to be this is just me, Hollis.
- 24:01Speaker 4: I tend to be a little bit more libertarian in
- 24:03Speaker 4: my views. I don't do it myself, but I don't
- 24:07Speaker 4: think that you can. If you want to do it,
- 24:08Speaker 4: knock yourself out. So that that's just where I am
- 24:11Speaker 4: on that. But I was talking to a good friend
- 24:14Speaker 4: of mine who is very, very anti cannabis, and he
- 24:18Speaker 4: said to me at one point during a conversation, he said,
- 24:21Speaker 4: you can't always go putting things on the ballot, because
- 24:24Speaker 4: let's go back one hundred fifty years ago, whatever the
- 24:27Speaker 4: case may be, if we would have allowed people to
- 24:31Speaker 4: put the if we'd have put things on the ballot
- 24:34Speaker 4: for the public to vote on that at that particular point,
- 24:39Speaker 4: may have voted for things that we didn't want in America.
- 24:42Speaker 4: We were trying to rid ourselves. And so to that,
- 24:45Speaker 4: you would say what I mean, I hope we've evolved
- 24:47Speaker 4: as a country since then, but go ahead.
- 24:49Speaker 10: I mean, some things are are more you know, fundamental
- 24:53Speaker 10: and I think common sense, you know, some issues that
- 24:58Speaker 10: we just need to rid ourselves of, you know, at
- 25:01Speaker 10: the highest level possible. And again I want to say
- 25:03Speaker 10: this before I go deep, is that you know, marijuana
- 25:06Speaker 10: in itself, of adult use, cannabis, it's not going to
- 25:08Speaker 10: be the answer to all problems, right it's just so.
- 25:12Speaker 4: I mean, that's what I hear a lot from a
- 25:13Speaker 4: lot of the proponents of this. They say, if we
- 25:16Speaker 4: legalize that, we are going to solve every day.
- 25:19Speaker 10: I don't agree with I don't agree with that, but
- 25:21Speaker 10: it is a prong it is something that could help.
- 25:24Speaker 10: And myself, I'm not a consumer. It's not something I'm
- 25:27Speaker 10: meant to But to each his own. But I think
- 25:29Speaker 10: as far as on the ballot, I think because it's
- 25:33Speaker 10: such a polarizing issue and our sort of plan and
- 25:40Speaker 10: methodology in that it's just saying, hey, we want to
- 25:43Speaker 10: give it a chance, so maybe let the people speak
- 25:45Speaker 10: for that particular issue. And I think it's something that
- 25:48Speaker 10: the people in those particular jurisdiction municipalities and counties, they
- 25:52Speaker 10: can have their voice if it's not going to be
- 25:55Speaker 10: done on a state level, which I think it should
- 25:56Speaker 10: just be done on a state.
- 25:57Speaker 4: Level, because I think, in my opinion, if you start
- 26:00Speaker 4: doing by counties, I think you create all issues.
- 26:03Speaker 10: And you're right, it is, it will create different issues.
- 26:07Speaker 10: But we're just trying to throw out options to at
- 26:09Speaker 10: least give it a chance.
- 26:11Speaker 4: As a Democrat, and there's not a whole lot of
- 26:13Speaker 4: you there you know, you know that that's simple numbers.
- 26:15Speaker 4: There's not a whole lot of you there. How difficult
- 26:18Speaker 4: is it for your voices to be heard? I mean,
- 26:20Speaker 4: one thing I will say about the small number of Democrats,
- 26:22Speaker 4: and you're going to you and others are going to
- 26:25Speaker 4: your fellow Democrats are going to disagree on certain things,
- 26:27Speaker 4: but by and large, you folks seem to be pretty
- 26:29Speaker 4: much on the same page on most things. How difficult
- 26:31Speaker 4: is it, though, when you have a wish list as
- 26:33Speaker 4: you do and others do, to try to even have
- 26:36Speaker 4: a chance of getting it through when the numbers are
- 26:38Speaker 4: so small.
- 26:39Speaker 10: Yeah, but we walk in, you know, the legislative session
- 26:43Speaker 10: realizing that, right, so we realize that a lot of
- 26:46Speaker 10: the things and the bills that we draft may not
- 26:48Speaker 10: see even committee. So a lot of what we do
- 26:51Speaker 10: is defense. And I think what you've seen and what
- 26:53Speaker 10: other people have seen around the state. You know, our voices,
- 26:56Speaker 10: we try to make them as loud as possible, whether
- 26:58Speaker 10: that's on the House floor or just any information through
- 27:01Speaker 10: social media. So because we kind of know what we're
- 27:04Speaker 10: walking into with, I think we've done a good job
- 27:06Speaker 10: of making our voices heard, even though we may not
- 27:09Speaker 10: be able to always get bills through. We've done a
- 27:11Speaker 10: good job of stopping a couple of bad bills, particularly
- 27:14Speaker 10: last session.
- 27:15Speaker 4: What was giving an example of one or two of
- 27:17Speaker 4: those in your.
- 27:18Speaker 10: Certificate of need for example, they wanted to uh to
- 27:21Speaker 10: to dissolve that. That's one of the things that we
- 27:24Speaker 10: were able to quell. It's important, particularly in West Virginia,
- 27:28Speaker 10: that we we felt that you have a process as
- 27:31Speaker 10: far as opening up hospitals and different things of that nature.
- 27:34Speaker 10: Uh So that's one of the things that we were
- 27:36Speaker 10: and again until that point, just to give you a
- 27:39Speaker 10: little bit of explanation, I think what happens is, well,
- 27:41Speaker 10: people say, well, let's open up the market, right, and
- 27:43Speaker 10: it makes sense that we just want to have a
- 27:45Speaker 10: market and maybe we can have the best hospitals and
- 27:48Speaker 10: emergency room different things come in. But the problem is
- 27:50Speaker 10: that they're not going to Mingo County, they're not going
- 27:53Speaker 10: to mcdalell County. They're just going to come to Charleston
- 27:55Speaker 10: and flood the market. So the the method all in
- 28:00Speaker 10: which they would use for you know, dissolving certificately, we
- 28:03Speaker 10: felt was inadequate and we felt it was important to
- 28:06Speaker 10: still have that because they're not going to come in
- 28:09Speaker 10: and try to solve the problems that rule West Virginia needs.
- 28:12Speaker 10: So we've been able to stop different things like that
- 28:13Speaker 10: and the whole host of other things. So again, I
- 28:16Speaker 10: think sometimes the biggest fight is fighting other Democrats. That
- 28:20Speaker 10: seems to be yeah, you know, those who don't necessarily
- 28:25Speaker 10: understand the process, those who are in a you know,
- 28:29Speaker 10: leadership sort of on the back office that that you know,
- 28:35Speaker 10: holding onto an old guard that don't understand that, hey,
- 28:37Speaker 10: we need to move forward. This is about as far
- 28:39Speaker 10: as on the Democrats, how we have to get people,
- 28:41Speaker 10: We have to get candidates, and we have to help
- 28:44Speaker 10: candidates get elected or at least give them a chance
- 28:46Speaker 10: put them in the best opportunity. So again, so you know,
- 28:49Speaker 10: being a Democrat is kind of tough on a lot
- 28:51Speaker 10: of levels here.
- 28:52Speaker 4: Well, but I mean this time, you know, twenty years ago,
- 28:54Speaker 4: we were saying being a Republican in West Virginia is
- 28:56Speaker 4: difficult on many levels.
- 28:57Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, but I think they've been done an
- 28:59Speaker 10: excellent job of organizing themselves from the top to the bottom.
- 29:03Speaker 10: They don't always agree, now that's not you know, crank
- 29:06Speaker 10: paint fairy tales. They don't always agree with each other.
- 29:09Speaker 10: But I think they've all they've they've been able to
- 29:11Speaker 10: get on one accord and at the very least support
- 29:14Speaker 10: each other through the process.
- 29:16Speaker 4: You know, I had a high ranking Democrat told me
- 29:20Speaker 4: one time that the problem with the Democratic Party, and
- 29:24Speaker 4: you could agree or disagree, hollis, is that we let
- 29:27Speaker 4: other people define what we are. In other words, this
- 29:32Speaker 4: person was saying, as a Democrat, we let Republicans come
- 29:36Speaker 4: in and say, well, this is what a Democrat is,
- 29:38Speaker 4: and that people have a tendency to listen as opposed
- 29:40Speaker 4: to us telling our own story. That was said to
- 29:42Speaker 4: me by a high ranking Democrat in West Virginia's to that,
- 29:45Speaker 4: you would.
- 29:45Speaker 3: Say, I don't know if I would necessarily agree with that.
- 29:48Speaker 10: I think what's happened is that, you know, Republicans, they
- 29:51Speaker 10: know how to politic, Democrats know how to govern, and
- 29:55Speaker 10: we know the politic part is what's going to get
- 29:58Speaker 10: you in office. And I think what happens is is
- 30:00Speaker 10: that too many times on our side we're too fragmented
- 30:04Speaker 10: and we don't next again, we do not have to agree,
- 30:07Speaker 10: but I think if we can get on one a
- 30:08Speaker 10: court and agree on these principles as far as public
- 30:12Speaker 10: facing together again, we could fight back door. We can
- 30:16Speaker 10: go out and you know, non public facing in the
- 30:19Speaker 10: back rooms and scrap it out, you know, and argue
- 30:21Speaker 10: and do all those things. But far as publicly facing,
- 30:24Speaker 10: I think it's important for us to all be together
- 30:27Speaker 10: and to have one movement, and again for everybody to
- 30:30Speaker 10: support our candidates, whether you're in office or trying to
- 30:34Speaker 10: get in office. And I think, you know, as we
- 30:36Speaker 10: get younger and we get new ideas, those things are happening.
- 30:40Speaker 9: You know.
- 30:42Speaker 4: In talking not long ago, State Democratic Party chair Might
- 30:45Speaker 4: Pushkin on the show, he talked about in these races
- 30:47Speaker 4: around West Virginia wanting to have a Democrat on the
- 30:49Speaker 4: ballot as much as possible, and sometimes with the numbers
- 30:51Speaker 4: it's not impossible. Other than it's not possible, but that's
- 30:54Speaker 4: what they wanted to do. If somebody were thinking about
- 30:57Speaker 4: running for office in another area, but they say, well,
- 31:01Speaker 4: I'm a Democrat, I just don't know what kind of
- 31:03Speaker 4: a chance I have. And maybe not the district that
- 31:05Speaker 4: you are in necessarily, but maybe no. But I mean
- 31:09Speaker 4: in a more rural area where where you know it's
- 31:12Speaker 4: it tends to be more conservative. What would you say
- 31:15Speaker 4: to them, I mean, what would you why, how would
- 31:17Speaker 4: you encourage them?
- 31:18Speaker 10: I would say, let's take the motion out of it
- 31:22Speaker 10: and let's look at the numbers. So I would say, like,
- 31:24Speaker 10: if you're in a house race, you're going to have
- 31:25Speaker 10: a district, you have a locale, and I would say,
- 31:28Speaker 10: what are your preestincts? So if you got twenty precincts,
- 31:30Speaker 10: 's say, let's look at the numbers. Let's look at
- 31:33Speaker 10: the numbers as far as what it took to win
- 31:35Speaker 10: those those particular precincts. What are your biggest preccincts? What
- 31:40Speaker 10: are what is? What does the political makeup in that precinct?
- 31:43Speaker 10: Look at the numbers, because sometimes we just get lost
- 31:46Speaker 10: in Okay, it's red. We just see a red mark
- 31:49Speaker 10: and then we just kind of turn our head. But
- 31:51Speaker 10: sometimes if we dig into the numbers, we can figure
- 31:54Speaker 10: out a pathology to win. Because you may not win
- 31:57Speaker 10: all those districts, you may not win most of them,
- 31:59Speaker 10: but if you possibly get some headway into the bigger
- 32:03Speaker 10: districts that excuse me, bigger precincts, you may be able
- 32:06Speaker 10: to have to have a chance in addition to do
- 32:09Speaker 10: things like you know, get with political strategies, get with
- 32:13Speaker 10: campaign managers, start talking to people, go to community events,
- 32:18Speaker 10: see where you're at. That way, take the motion out
- 32:21Speaker 10: of it a little bit, get more data driven, and
- 32:24Speaker 10: then go from there.
- 32:25Speaker 4: And it's also interesting to point out and if you
- 32:28Speaker 4: read TJ. Meadow's commentary today and he's going to talk
- 32:30Speaker 4: about it on Metro News midday, I also talk about
- 32:33Speaker 4: on his own show, Hen Wilson Show coming up at
- 32:34Speaker 4: ten o'clock. You know, the state Republican Party is going
- 32:36Speaker 4: to meet this weekend in Charleston, and I don't know
- 32:38Speaker 4: whether they're going to bring it up or not, but
- 32:40Speaker 4: you know they made the decision within the last year
- 32:42Speaker 4: or so to close their primary. And so if you're
- 32:45Speaker 4: a registered independent, it used to be you could go
- 32:47Speaker 4: in on the primary and say, I am a registered Independent,
- 32:50Speaker 4: but I want a Republican ballot or I want a
- 32:52Speaker 4: Democrat ballot. Well, with the Republican you can't do that anymore.
- 32:56Speaker 4: They closed their Democrats are still open them and so
- 32:59Speaker 4: independence could ask. I'm not I'm not advocating people should
- 33:02Speaker 4: do that or if they can, if they want, but
- 33:04Speaker 4: I'm just saying that option so there because your primary
- 33:06Speaker 4: is still.
- 33:06Speaker 10: Open, and that's and that's very true, and I think
- 33:08Speaker 10: it's telling that you know, you would you would close
- 33:11Speaker 10: it to that degree. I think it's you know, it's
- 33:14Speaker 10: one of those things that you know, Democrats were open
- 33:18Speaker 10: for all and we want to hear your voice, whether
- 33:20Speaker 10: you're a Democrat or an independent, and it's telling that
- 33:24Speaker 10: Republicans would close it. I think it's a little bit
- 33:26Speaker 10: of fear of kind of you know, fear the independence
- 33:30Speaker 10: and I and again, independence are a large section of
- 33:33Speaker 10: the VOG getting larger and getting larger, and we need
- 33:36Speaker 10: them to come out and I and as far as
- 33:38Speaker 10: the Democrats out, we're telling you we want your participation,
- 33:41Speaker 10: we welcome your voice.
- 33:44Speaker 4: Before we let you go. A couple of days ago,
- 33:46Speaker 4: the governor stated he wants to cut the state income tax.
- 33:48Speaker 4: And over the last twenty four hours, delegate two Republicans
- 33:53Speaker 4: and one Democrat have come on these very airways here
- 33:56Speaker 4: and said that they seem to be a little bit
- 33:58Speaker 4: skeptical or at least had questions about the math.
- 34:01Speaker 3: Where are you on that same thing? I got questions
- 34:03Speaker 3: about the math.
- 34:04Speaker 10: I was told a long time ago when it comes
- 34:07Speaker 10: to you know, just and again this is a little
- 34:09Speaker 10: bit of a false comparison, but when it comes to
- 34:11Speaker 10: personal finance, you can't cut yourself to death. You can't cut, cut, cut,
- 34:15Speaker 10: cut and not be able to live and have a life.
- 34:18Speaker 10: So again, we have those taxes are going to pay
- 34:21Speaker 10: for you know, state funded projects and employment and different
- 34:24Speaker 10: things of that nature. So I am a little bit
- 34:26Speaker 10: skeptical about how far we can cut without bringing any
- 34:30Speaker 10: additional revenue in. Because we talk about cut, we talk
- 34:32Speaker 10: about this, we talk about that, but what we're not
- 34:34Speaker 10: talking about is what we're going to do to make
- 34:36Speaker 10: up those gaps and fill those gaps. So I want
- 34:38Speaker 10: to hear more from the governor, and I'm sure I
- 34:40Speaker 10: will in the next few weeks.
- 34:42Speaker 4: Tell a good Hollis Lewis. The session begins next Wednesday.
- 34:45Speaker 4: You're always welcome on the show, whether it's the session

- 39:03Speaker 4: check that out, because as Delicate Lewis and I were
- 39:06Speaker 4: talking about, there have been two schools of thoughts on that.
- 39:08Speaker 4: You know, a lot of the Republicans when they close
- 39:11Speaker 4: the primary said basically, if you're a Republican, register as
- 39:13Speaker 4: a Republican and it's a way too in some of
- 39:16Speaker 4: their words to weed out some of what they call rhinos.

- 41:04Speaker 4: I'm I'm still trying to monetize this whole thing. I

- 41:11Speaker 4: over the weekend offering to sell adspace on my prostate
- 41:14Speaker 4: and then to post it online. Actually I actually had takers,
- 41:19Speaker 4: I mean I was. I said it as a joke
- 41:21Speaker 4: that when they do the biopsy and they give you
- 41:24Speaker 4: the picture and whatever. I said it as a joke
- 41:27Speaker 4: and a video Saturday night, I said a YouTube con

- 41:58Speaker 4: a serious note, I will let everyone know on social

- 42:27Speaker 4: the Mall, Texas. All the malls in Lexington are packed
- 42:32Speaker 4: every day. Huntington Mall also very busy. Appreciate the text.
- 42:35Speaker 4: The big difference though, in that is, and I said
- 42:40Speaker 4: this on the shows yesterday, the model of a downtown
- 42:45Speaker 4: mall like the Charlestontown Center is no more the Huntington Mall,
- 42:50Speaker 4: the mall in Lexington, other malls I've visited, I'm sure
- 42:52Speaker 4: you have as well in other states and other areas.
- 42:55Speaker 4: You really can't compare it to what the town center is.
- 42:56Speaker 4: Because the town center is located downtown. It's landlocked, so
- 43:00Speaker 4: to speak. You can't build around it. One of the
- 43:02Speaker 4: things that makes the huntingson Mall such a huge success,
- 43:05Speaker 4: especially over the last couple of years. Is all the
- 43:06Speaker 4: things around it, not just the mall itself, the tangared
- 43:10Speaker 4: stations and the coals and you know Oli's and all
- 43:13Speaker 4: the other places that are surrounding it. So I think
- 43:17Speaker 4: we need to keep that in mind. We need to
- 43:18Speaker 4: compare apples to apples, oranges to oranges. But I do
- 43:21Speaker 4: appreciate the text Texas Dave is this question is probably
- 43:26Speaker 4: not related to anything discussed today. I'm not from West Virginia,
- 43:29Speaker 4: so it's confusing to me. Why do coal miners leave
- 43:32Speaker 4: the coal sit on their faces when they leave the

- 43:57Speaker 4: I don't know, I don't, I can't. I can't answer
- 44:01Speaker 4: that question, tex says Dave. No cannabis proponents says cannabis
- 44:05Speaker 4: will fix everything. The only people who say that are
- 44:07Speaker 4: opponents of legalization, who say it to diminish its potential contributions.
- 44:12Speaker 4: Whoever is running to get Shelley Kapado or Carol Miller

- 44:17Speaker 4: stand in the way of cannabis rescheduling and legalization, which
- 44:20Speaker 4: prohibits the state from accessing revenue created by medical cannabis.
- 44:24Speaker 4: There's a lot of money remaining stagnant because of outdated ideologies,
- 44:29Speaker 4: says a text. Tex says Democrats governed for eighty three

- 47:39Speaker 4: if you wake up every day and your first thought
- 47:41Speaker 4: is about legalizing recreational weed, you may have a bit
- 47:43Speaker 4: of a problem. Seek help. Please. Legalizing pot will set
- 47:47Speaker 4: of precedence. How long it's all lawsuit a file demanding
- 47:49Speaker 4: legalizations of meth, crack, heroin, et cetera. Never say that
- 47:53Speaker 4: it will never happen either. Well, I don't think that
- 47:54Speaker 4: a lot of I mean, there are Look, there are
- 47:56Speaker 4: those people that wake up every day and waken bake,
- 47:58Speaker 4: as they say, there are those people wake up every
- 48:01Speaker 4: day and grab a twinkie. You know, I'm just saying
- 48:05Speaker 4: that the people that are proponents of legalizing cannabis don't
- 48:10Speaker 4: necessarily fall into that category that waken bake. They just
- 48:15Speaker 4: see the economic aspects of it or so on and
- 48:17Speaker 4: so forth. So I appreciate the text Tex says, unless
- 48:20Speaker 4: state Democrats distance themselves and announce the direction of leaders
- 48:23Speaker 4: of the National Democrats the way it's going right now,
- 48:25Speaker 4: with socialism spreading across the country, then you're never going
- 48:28Speaker 4: to regain control here. Again, I agree, and I will
- 48:32Speaker 4: say this as somebody who's worked on a number of campaigns,
- 48:35Speaker 4: and if I do say so myself, it's got an
- 48:37Speaker 4: actually pretty good track record prior to radio or prior
- 48:41Speaker 4: to this show, anyway of working on campaigns, I can
- 48:45Speaker 4: tell you that if you want to get elected as
- 48:47Speaker 4: a Democrat in West Virginia, a good start. And they're
- 48:49Speaker 4: never going to do this because they won't get any
- 48:52Speaker 4: help for the national Party. The good way to start
- 48:55Speaker 4: would be if you're running for I don't fill in
- 48:57Speaker 4: office here. A good way to start would be to
- 49:00Speaker 4: ounce to the National Democratic Party and what stands for
- 49:02Speaker 4: the National Democratic Party. I don't care who the chair is.
- 49:05Speaker 4: I'm telling you who the faces of the parties are,
- 49:07Speaker 4: and you know who they are. Unless you stand up
- 49:09Speaker 4: and say I am not a California Democrat, I do
- 49:12Speaker 4: not go along with AOC Chuck Schumer whatever, You're not
- 49:16Speaker 4: get elected you're not getting elected as a Democrat in
- 49:18Speaker 4: West Virginia with certain exceptions, I mean certain little pockets
- 49:21Speaker 4: of West Virginia, Texas in regards to them all, how
- 49:25Speaker 4: about solving another issue too by combining them McNary inside
- 49:29Speaker 4: the mall, specifically for a new animal shelter. It's space,
- 49:31Speaker 4: it's convenient, easily accessible. I would be all for that
- 49:33Speaker 4: one hundred percent as an animal lover, as a big
- 49:35Speaker 4: support of the Kennal Charleston Humane Association. However, that's not
- 49:39Speaker 4: going to bring money in, and that's what it's all about.
- 49:41Speaker 4: It's all about bringing money in. But I do it's
- 49:43Speaker 4: a great idea if that goes along with something else Texas.
- 49:47Speaker 4: I thought just this past year that the governor when
- 49:49Speaker 4: he took office was talking big about how our financial
- 49:51Speaker 4: situation the state was not so good and how he
- 49:54Speaker 4: needed to fix it. Now he's talking about lowering the
- 49:56Speaker 4: state income tax. We have no business lowering the tax,
- 50:00Speaker 4: and so we have adequately funded the Department of Human
- 50:02Speaker 4: Services to make sure that children of foster care are
- 50:04Speaker 4: well taken care of. Tex says A lot of people
- 50:10Speaker 4: think beer wine and moonshine are okay. Now you'll never
- 50:13Speaker 4: hear me say weed is good for you, but sure
- 50:16Speaker 4: as heck isn't any worse than alcohol, and its prohibition
- 50:19Speaker 4: is discriminatory. One report estimated approximately one two hundred and
- 50:24Speaker 4: forty three average annual alcohol related deaths in West Virginia.
- 50:28Speaker 4: The alcohol involved death rate was fourteen point six per
- 50:31Speaker 4: one hundred thousand people in twenty twenty one, slightly higher
- 50:34Speaker 4: than the national average, while heroin accounted for only three
- 50:37Speaker 4: percent of all drug overdose rates. Overdose death rather in
- 50:41Speaker 4: twenty twenty one. And don't say fentanyl, because if you
- 50:43Speaker 4: regulate weed better, the number of those over deaths overdose
- 50:46Speaker 4: death will come down as as well. Well, I'll say this.
- 50:50Speaker 4: You talk to any police officer and ask them which
- 50:53Speaker 4: they would rather deal with, somebody who's been smoking weed
- 50:55Speaker 4: or somebody who's been drinking. They're gonna say smoking weed
- 50:57Speaker 4: every time. Speaking of which, what happened with a girl cookies?
- 51:01Speaker 21: Uh?
- 51:01Speaker 4: Text says And the Huntington mall is in Barbersville, not
