- 0:00Today we're going to read chapter 23 from the book of
- 0:03Jeremiah and as a reminder of why we do this according to
- 0:09Second Timothy chapter 3, verses 16 through 17, all Scripture is
- 0:15God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting,
- 0:22and training in righteousness so that the servant of God may be
- 0:28thoroughly equipped for every good work.
- 0:32We ask that God open our eyes as we read through this scripture.
- 0:38We ask this in Jesus name, Amen. This starts out with the title
- 0:43of the righteous branch. Woe to the shepherds who are
- 0:47destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture, declares
- 0:52the Lord. Therefore, this is what the
- 0:54Lord, the God of Israel says to the shepherds who tend my
- 0:58people. Because you have scattered my
- 1:03flock and driven them away and have not bestowed care on them,
- 1:08I will bestow punishment on you for the evil you have done,
- 1:13declares the Lord. I myself will gather the remnant
- 1:16of my flock out of all the countries where I had driven
- 1:20them, and will bring them back to their pasture, where they
- 1:24will be fruitful and increase the number.
- 1:27I will place shepherds over them who will lead them, and they
- 1:33will no longer be afraid or terrified, nor will any be
- 1:39missing, declares the Lord. So in this portion of the
- 1:45Scripture there is a coming judgement to the shepherds who
- 1:50are not leading, the shepherds of the leaders, and we'll read
- 1:53the question and answer from the study Bible.
- 1:55Who were destroying the sheep? Judah's leaders.
- 1:58With leadership comes responsibility.
- 2:00The Lord holds accountable those who have spiritual authority
- 2:05over the people of God. In this case, Jeremiah was
- 2:08talking about the priest, the false prophets, and the king.
- 2:13They all failed the people by leading them into idolatry,
- 2:18injustice, and unfaithfulness. So God is recognizing you have a
- 2:26lot of bad leaders and they're leading you astray, but He's
- 2:30also making them a promise that He is going to change it and
- 2:38He's going to, even though He is pronouncing this judgement where
- 2:42they're going to all go to Babylon.
- 2:44They're going to be they're going to go in exile to Babylon.
- 2:48He's telling them that there will be a return, a future
- 2:52return. And no longer will people be
- 2:54afraid or terrified nor any will be missing.
- 2:57Well, reading that, I can tell you right now, and we would all
- 3:02agree on this. That is not the way it is today
- 3:05in Jerusalem. People are not, they are not in
- 3:09a state of being unafraid or not terrified, nor will any be
- 3:16missing. But currently they're still
- 3:19hostages that are bodies of people who had been killed that
- 3:23are not in Israel. So these these points have not
- 3:30occurred yet. This is still in the future.
- 3:33Now here's where it starts to talk about Jesus.
- 3:37The days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will raise up
- 3:42for David a righteous branch, a king who will reign wisely and
- 3:49do what is just and right in the land.
- 3:53In his days, Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety.
- 4:03This is the name by which he will be called the Lord, our
- 4:08righteous savior. So recently I heard somebody
- 4:13talking that was saying it was a person who is Jewish and was
- 4:20saying, was talking about Mashiac and saying that he
- 4:24wasn't going to be a savior. And I just remembered that
- 4:29because I recently heard that and I now I'm looking at what
- 4:32Jeremiah said and keep in mind what Jeremiah what when Jeremiah
- 4:38was written, and I'm going to go back to the timing of this.
- 4:43Jeremiah's ministry was in 526 to 585 BC.
- 4:50The book of Jeremiah was written in 585 to 580 BC.
- 4:55So about 600 years or so before Jesus was born, and this is in
- 5:03the Old Testament. So Jeremiah chapter 23, verses 5
- 5:11and 6 talk about Jesus and and we know that it's not now
- 5:19because Israel does not live in safety.
- 5:21It says that and it talks about salvation.
- 5:25The Lord, our righteous Savior and Jesus came from the line of
- 5:31David and there isn't a king currently in Israel.
- 5:37The the kings ended when Judah was exiled into Babylon.
- 5:45That's when all the kings ended. In fact, the Last King was, I'm
- 5:51going to go back to Zedekiah. So between Josiah, Jehoaz,
- 5:58Jehovah Kim, Jehovah Chin, and then Zedekiah, he was the last
- 6:03one. And then the fall of Jerusalem
- 6:06occurred as God prophesied that this was going to happen.
- 6:09It was because of their idolatry.
- 6:12Idolatry because they wouldn't repent any time God was sending
- 6:17people to to them. They just ignored them.
- 6:20They didn't listen to the prophets.
- 6:22They only wanted to hear good things.
- 6:24They didn't want to hear judgment type things and that a
- 6:29coming judgment that if they didn't change their ways then
- 6:33disaster would basically come upon them.
- 6:35So they were bringing this disaster on.
- 6:38These are more like warnings from God.
- 6:39Just saying if you don't listen to me, there are disasters
- 6:45coming towards you and nobody would listen to him.
- 6:49So anyway, God in his mercy determined that it's not going
- 6:57to end this way with these rebellious people who don't
- 7:00listen to God and them just being destroying themselves,
- 7:04that he was going to send His Son to be the Savior for
- 7:12actually all mankind. So continuing in at verse 7.
- 7:18So then the days are coming, declares the Lord, when people
- 7:22will no longer say as surely as the Lord lives who brought the
- 7:27Israelites up out of Egypt, but they will say, as surely as the
- 7:33Lord lives who brought the descendants of Israel up out of
- 7:38the land of the north and out of all the countries where he had
- 7:42banished them, then they will live in their own land.
- 7:46So this is interesting too, because we know that God brought
- 7:51Israel out of Egypt, out of slavery in Egypt and brought
- 7:56them to the promised land of of Israel, but that's kind of more
- 8:02expanded than what they currently occupy.
- 8:05And and then he also is talking about something in the future.
- 8:11And to me, I think it's kind of interesting because he's talking
- 8:14about bringing people back from all the countries.
- 8:18I think Ezekiel also talks about this and he's talking about
- 8:22bringing them up out of the land of the north.
- 8:25So is there something, there's a couple different references that
- 8:28I've been picking up on in Bible prophecy that talks about Jesus
- 8:32freeing the people in the north. And I'm wondering if that is
- 8:37something that hasn't yet occurred because do you know
- 8:43right now they're, I'm not aware of people who are held captive
- 8:48in the north. And, and I just wonder these,
- 8:52this is just thoughts that come to mind because there's a couple
- 8:56different times where he talks about bringing them from the
- 9:01North. And anyway, we'll just have to
- 9:05wait and see on that one. So there is a question and
- 9:09answer about how is the Messiah linked to the restoration of
- 9:12Judah and Israel? We must be careful to
- 9:15distinguish between the first coming of Jesus Christ and His
- 9:19second coming, between Judah captivity and Babylon and the
- 9:24captivity of sin. The complete promise of
- 9:27restoration will be fulfilled only when Christ establishes His
- 9:32Kingdom on earth at the end of the age.
- 9:36More than a political nation. The people of God, all who
- 9:40believe in Christ, both Jew and non Jew will then be spiritually
- 9:46restored to the Lord spiritually and also physically.
- 9:51Because at prior to Jesus reigning on earth, those who
- 9:59believe in him, those who have prepared will be gathered to
- 10:02him, says gathered to him in the air and will be changed in an in
- 10:08the twinkling of an eye. I believe is and will receive
- 10:13immortal bodies at that point. So it's going to be interesting
- 10:17because there still will be mortal people during the
- 10:21Millennium. So there's going to be immortal
- 10:24and mortal people. Of course, Jesus is the immortal
- 10:27one, obviously, but he will be king over the earth for this
- 10:32time period, for this thousand years.
- 10:34That's in Bible prophecy. That's in the Book of
- 10:37Revelation. So continuing on with the book
- 10:41of Jeremiah, then he starts to talk about lying prophets.
- 10:44Chapter verse 9 concerning the prophets.
- 10:47My heart is broken within me, all my bones tremble.
- 10:51I am like a drunken man, like a strong man overcome by wine.
- 10:54Because of the Lord and His holy words, the land is full of
- 10:59adulterers. Because of the curse, the land
- 11:02lights parched and the pastures in the wilderness are withered.
- 11:08So here it also talks about, you know, the land is actually in a
- 11:13destructive phase or a phase of destruction.
- 11:18It's not producing things like it used to be because and it
- 11:22says be, you know, be the land is full of adulterers.
- 11:27So these are people that are worshipping a false God.
- 11:30They are not turned towards God and there are consequences.
- 11:37I tend to believe, as I've been reading Scripture, that
- 11:43sometimes when we rebel against God and we don't choose him,
- 11:49God. It does say in scripture that at
- 11:52a certain point God can turn us over.
- 11:54He can just give us what we want and it's not always going to be
- 11:59good because when he lets us have the evil that we seek, it
- 12:05leads to destruction. But the good thing about God is
- 12:11that He is very patient. He's merciful, He's forgiving,
- 12:16that if we wake up while we are in that rebellious state and we
- 12:20turn to Him, we can be assured of His welcoming of us and His
- 12:26forgiveness. But we should also greatly or
- 12:33have gratitude for the grace and the mercy and not abuse that
- 12:38because how would that be like if if you give somebody a gift
- 12:42and they trample on it, what do you think the response to that's
- 12:47going to be like, what would you do?
- 12:49I mean, God, we can't compare ourselves or how God reacts to
- 12:52how we react, obviously, because we're sinful and he is not.
- 12:56But just think about what that would feel like.
- 12:59You give somebody a beautiful gift like grace, like bringing
- 13:04people into your Kingdom, that's going to be absolutely perfect,
- 13:09unbroken, no crying, no tears, no nothing.
- 13:12I mean, like this is going to be like a beautiful place, space
- 13:15that God has planned from the beginning.
- 13:19And you give that opportunity to someone and they kind of trample
- 13:24on it and stay in sin like that. That only leads that leads to
- 13:30judgement because people, I, I know today that people just so
- 13:35greatly abuse the grace they believe that they have.
- 13:40And there's no denying that God does give grace and God does
- 13:44forgive people, but he doesn't forgive people so that you could
- 13:48we can stay in our sin when he when we, when there is
- 13:52forgiveness, then we receive the Holy Spirit and then we are in
- 13:58Christ. So our life begins to change.
- 14:00There's a transformation in our life.
- 14:03And if that's not occurring, then there there is some concern
- 14:08with that because it just says if we keep on sinning, that all
- 14:12we could expect is judgement from that.
- 14:15And it says no one who is in Christ keeps on sinning because
- 14:19the Holy Spirit's working in that person.
- 14:22And the Holy Spirit is the one who assist us and change us and
- 14:27makes us more like, you know, starts to purify us, I guess, in
- 14:34some ways to turn US away from sin and to give us new desires
- 14:39and make us more in alignment, in friendship with God.
- 14:46So going back to Scripture, it says the prophets follow an evil
- 14:52course and use their power unjustly.
- 14:56Both prophet and priest are godless.
- 14:59Even in my temple I find their wickedness declares the Lord.
- 15:03That's another thing. We can't always assume that
- 15:05somebody who is a leader in a church, in a synagogue, wherever
- 15:09they may be, that they are truly representing the Lord because
- 15:17there may be some, but it's, it's spiritual discernment
- 15:20that's really important to have. And the only way that you have
- 15:24spiritual discernment is from God.
- 15:26It's a gift of the Spirit, a gift of the Holy Spirit.
- 15:29So you must be born again and the Bible helps us the word of
- 15:34God helps us to spiritually discern things.
- 15:38Galatians chapter 5 verse 22 gives us the fruit of the spirit
- 15:42and what worldly people like or are like or Fleck fleshly people
- 15:47is what is what is called. So there's qualities or
- 15:51characteristics of people that are described in Galatians
- 15:54chapter 5 and that if you apply that to and observe people's
- 16:01actions, you can see what spiritual condition a person is
- 16:08if the Holy Spirit opens your eyes to those sorts of things.
- 16:12So anyway, these these prophets and leaders doesn't mean just
- 16:15because they have words like this doesn't mean that they are
- 16:18honest or that they are hearing from God and God is not happy
- 16:23about this. So therefore their path will
- 16:26become slippery. They will be banished to
- 16:29darkness and there they will fall.
- 16:32I will bring disaster on them in the year they are punished,
- 16:36declares the Lord. So God has a time.
- 16:39He's, he's so kind in that he actually delays his wrath,
- 16:47delays his judgement with the hope that each person, even
- 16:52these lying prophets, lying priests, the ones who are doing
- 16:56wrong, that they can have the opportunity, they can have the
- 17:00time. That's the one thing we don't
- 17:01get back. It's time.
- 17:03And we only have so much time here on earth and God has
- 17:09appointed times for everything. So it's, it's a very important
- 17:14decision to turn to God and to actually have God as Lord over
- 17:22our life, which means God rules our life.
- 17:25Like we listen to what God, we obey what God says and we we
- 17:31accept his commands because we don't know how much time we
- 17:39have. Only God knows that and he, you
- 17:45know, he says here, if we, if we remain in that condition, if, if
- 17:48somebody's a lying price or a lying prophet in the year they
- 17:53are punished when God determines that he's going to bring
- 17:56judgment on them. If, you know, if they delayed it
- 18:00too long and they didn't repent, then all they can expect is
- 18:03judgment. Among the prophets of Samaria, I
- 18:08always think it's helpful when we have ancient names in the
- 18:12Bible to see, well, where are those places today?
- 18:15So among the prophets of Samaria, that's where they get
- 18:18the word Samaritan from that area.
- 18:21That area is currently the West Bank.
- 18:26And I guess some people call it Palestine.
- 18:28So this is that area that's being discussed among the
- 18:34prophets of Samaria. I saw this repulsive thing.
- 18:39They prophesied by Baal and LED my people Israel astray.
- 18:45So that's interesting. These prophets are getting
- 18:49information from Baal. Baal is this other little G God
- 18:55that people worshipped back then.
- 18:57And and there's actually if you look up pictures or images of
- 19:01Bale, you will actually see that there are some like recent
- 19:08events that have sculptures or images like Bale in them.
- 19:15And it's a lot with within music and entertainment that you will
- 19:21see these things. And again, this is just
- 19:24spiritual discernment to see these things.
- 19:26I don't know why anyone you know, they are, they are copying
- 19:31this because you can see the resemblance of what Bale looks
- 19:35like. So it is intentionally done.
- 19:39So you have to ask why? Is it to upset people?
- 19:43Is it for shock value or is there something truly spiritual
- 19:47underlying it? It's just, I don't have the
- 19:51answer to that, but it's concerning to me because it
- 19:56seems like, you know, this is some godly, not godly like in a
- 20:02good sense, but something they thought was a God, which I think
- 20:07is evil. It's either a fallen Angel or an
- 20:09evil spiritual entity, but it leads people astray and people
- 20:16worship it. And I think that's still
- 20:19happening today. As much as we may think that
- 20:22doesn't happen today, I do believe it is.
- 20:25And when you, if you are aware of it, you will see it.
- 20:32And so it's, it's kind of concerning, you know, is, is
- 20:34Satan behind it? Is, is it, you know, just is it
- 20:38a fallen Angel? Is it a, an evil spirit?
- 20:41I don't know what it is, but whatever it is, it's something
- 20:45deceptive and it leaves people astray.
- 20:48And apparently it says these people prophesied by Baal.
- 20:53So there's some information and I've thought about this before
- 20:57too, about like, how can evil give prophecy?
- 20:59And then you know what if it's true?
- 21:02And, and there's an easy answer for that because we know that
- 21:09the evil ones are not omnipresent, are omnipotent.
- 21:16I can't say it now. Omnipotent, like God is, like
- 21:20God is present everywhere and he is all knowing.
- 21:23The evil ones are not that. They are in certain locales and
- 21:28they don't know everything. It's only God who knows
- 21:32everything. So how can they give prophecy to
- 21:38someone and that be true? Well, here's the easy way to do
- 21:42it. You tell something to to someone
- 21:46about a future event that an evil thing could make happen,
- 21:52like a an evil spirit could can influence people.
- 21:56It can cause things to happen. So maybe say like it says, you
- 22:02know, like of a sickness is coming.
- 22:05Well, something evil could cause a sickness for someone.
- 22:10It could do. There's a lot of different
- 22:12things. It could, it could cause, you
- 22:15know, a disaster to happen somewhere.
- 22:18So there are things that could be prophesied.
- 22:22And then here's another thing, because it, this is usually
- 22:26talking about that, it's saying things that are what people want
- 22:30to hear. So people don't really want to
- 22:32hear about destruction and things.
- 22:34So for example, peace, it's it's telling people they will have
- 22:40peace. And this is exactly what
- 22:41happened to the people in, in Judah.
- 22:46These false prophets were telling them you're you're not
- 22:49going to have anything come against you.
- 22:51You know, God protects you, you'll have peace, you'll have
- 22:53peace and all of this peace. And so today I think about that
- 23:00because everybody is so excited, or I don't know if everybody is,
- 23:06but and there's this, you know, peace agreement, the Abraham
- 23:10Accords that started in 2020. And more and more nations are
- 23:14signing on to it. And more and more people are
- 23:17seeking and wanting peace because war is terrible.
- 23:22No one wants war. And so it's a good thing that
- 23:25everybody wants peace, and everybody is expecting that
- 23:29there's going to be peace. But in Bible prophecy, it tells
- 23:33us when they say peace and safety, then comes sudden
- 23:38destruction. And because this is such a
- 23:40national thing, and it is, you know, so many nations are
- 23:47involved in it. And because it's centralized in
- 23:50the Middle East, and because Israel's a part of it, that's
- 23:55why it concerned me that this could be prophecy unfolding.
- 24:01When people are saying that there's all this peace that
- 24:03we're getting, all these people, these nations to agree to peace,
- 24:09I'm concerned that the next prophetic fulfillment will be
- 24:12sudden destruction. And not to live in fear, because
- 24:17we don't. But here's the urgency of it.
- 24:20People need to repent because you don't know if that's coming.
- 24:25You may think we're going to be in a time of peaceful
- 24:29coexistence with all people because of these things, that
- 24:33everybody's tired of war and everybody wants this peace.
- 24:37But some act deceptively in order to get people thinking
- 24:43they are in peace so that they can take away that peace and
- 24:48destroy. And that's that's found in Bible
- 24:51prophecy. And it's all about Israel.
- 24:54And like I said, because this is all focused on the Middle East,
- 24:59it it's something that I think people should be alerted to.
- 25:03And how do you prepare for that? You prepare for that by being
- 25:08right with God, by taking a look at your life.
- 25:12And are you living the way God wants us to live?
- 25:15Are you living holy? Is God Lord over your life?
- 25:20Have you surrendered to him? Have you said, God, I want you
- 25:24to guide my life every day. I want you to direct me on the
- 25:28right path. That's, that's what I mean by
- 25:31surrender. If we ask for forgiveness for
- 25:35our past sins and present sins, whatever and God will forgive
- 25:41and when we are sincere about that, he will give us the Holy
- 25:44Spirit. Jesus will give us the Holy
- 25:47Spirit and, and the Holy Spirit will be with us and help us
- 25:53throughout anything we need. And this is the important part
- 25:59right now, not to focus on other negativity things, but but to
- 26:04focus on the positive part of it that God will be with us that
- 26:12when we repent, he, he protects people.
- 26:15He always has a remnant whenever things go wrong, there's always
- 26:19a remnant of people, those who are truly surrendered to him,
- 26:23not just by words, but in their, their heart.
- 26:27Like it says, you know, he's not after the people who are
- 26:30circumcised, but the ones whose hearts are circumcised.
- 26:36Do we truly love him? Have we made him the priority in
- 26:40our life? Are we surrendered to him?
- 26:43That's what God is looking for. So I think that is the most
- 26:47important thing that we can do in preparation right now is to
- 26:50get close to God and change our ways to turn away from the
- 26:56things that God says don't do these things and and live the
- 27:01way God wants us to live. Then we have No Fear.
- 27:04When we have when we have Christ in us, when we have the Spirit
- 27:08of God in us, we have nothing to fear.
- 27:13So it's talking more about the the false prophets and it says
- 27:18they commit adultery and live a lie.
- 27:21They strengthen the hands of evil doers so that not one of
- 27:27them turns from their wickedness.
- 27:30They are all like Sodom to me. The people of Jerusalem are like
- 27:35Gomorrah. Therefore, this is what the Lord
- 27:38Almighty says concerning the prophets.
- 27:42I will make them eat bitter food and drink poisoned water because
- 27:48from the prophets of Jerusalem, ungodliness has spread
- 27:53throughout the land. So I also wondered sometimes,
- 27:59often the Bible repeats itself and sometimes there is a like a
- 28:05foreshadowing or an example of a future prophecy when it unfolds.
- 28:09And when I read this about drinking poisoned water, of
- 28:12course, that could happen at any point.
- 28:15That water could become poisoned for a variety of reasons.
- 28:19But it's interesting that if, if, if Jeremiah is going between
- 28:26prophesying future events, which actually I guess they all are,
- 28:31but like immediate future events or future like in we were
- 28:38talking about Jesus and the millennial reign in 1000 year
- 28:41reign when he returns. So that was already in this
- 28:44part. Now is, is Jeremiah talking
- 28:48about an immediate fulfillment to the prophets or is he talking
- 28:53about something that will come in the future?
- 28:54Because if he is talking about something that comes in the
- 28:57future at the end of the age and he's talking about poisoned
- 29:00water, we can find that in the Book of Revelation chapter 8.
- 29:05And it's when the third Angel sounded his trumpet, and a great
- 29:11star blazing like a torch fell from the sky on 1/3 of the
- 29:16rivers and on the springs of water.
- 29:20The name of the star is Wormwood. 1/3 of the waters
- 29:25turned bitter, and many people died from the waters that had
- 29:31become bitter. So a you know, this could be a,
- 29:36a dual fulfillment, it could be a foreshadowing of a future
- 29:41event, but this is what the Lord said concerning the prophets
- 29:48continuing on, this is what the Lord Almighty says, do not
- 29:51listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you.
- 29:55They fill you with false hopes. They speak visions from their
- 30:01own minds, not from the mouth of God.
- 30:04They keep saying to those who despise me, the Lord says you
- 30:10will have peace. So this is where I was talking
- 30:14about the peace and the peace and the peace that keeps being
- 30:18brought up in our world today. In fact, I think just yesterday
- 30:22or maybe today there was another country that signed on the
- 30:26Abrahamic Accords. So the Lord says you will have
- 30:31peace. And to all who follow the
- 30:34stubbornness of their hearts, they say no harm will come to
- 30:39you. But which of them has stood in
- 30:42the counsel of the Lord to see or hear His word?
- 30:47Who has listened and heard His word?
- 30:50See, the storm of the Lord will burst out in wrath, a whirlwind
- 30:56swirling down on the heads of the wicked.
- 30:59The anger of the Lord will not turn back until He fully
- 31:03accomplishes the purposes of his heart.
- 31:08So then it continues. In days to come, you will
- 31:14understand it clearly. So I'm wondering, are these the
- 31:17days to come or did it? You know, when the prophecy is
- 31:22fulfilled, then people will say, wow, this is what Jeremiah
- 31:25talked about. I did not send these prophets,
- 31:30yet they have run with their message.
- 31:33I did not speak to them, yet they have, yet they have
- 31:37prophesied. But if they had stood in My
- 31:41counsel, they would have proclaimed My words to My people
- 31:46and would have turned them from their evil ways and from their
- 31:50evil deeds. So again, it seems like true
- 31:54prophets of God are talking about repentance, turning away
- 32:00from sin and turning towards Lord the Lord and having the
- 32:05Lord guide our lives. Having being submitted to God,
- 32:10putting God as the number one priority in our life and asking
- 32:15God to guide every day. That's, that's a turning of a
- 32:19turning around of what we'd normally would do.
- 32:22We'd just live our, our life. We'd live in the world.
- 32:26And you know, maybe God fits in there somewhere for a lot of
- 32:31people, or maybe he doesn't even fit in at all.
- 32:33But the way it should be is that we were created by God and to be
- 32:40in a relationship with him and and we will worship him.
- 32:45And if he's not our priority, I don't think we're doing that.
- 32:49So prioritizing God is an important first step in our life
- 32:56of repentance and letting God guide us rather than us
- 32:59following our hearts, which Jeremiah said our hearts are
- 33:02deceitful. Am I only a God nearby, declares
- 33:08the Lord, and not a God far away who can hide in secret places so
- 33:13that I cannot see them, declares the Lord.
- 33:15Do not I fill heaven and earth, declares the Lord.
- 33:21I have heard what the prophets say.
- 33:23Who prophets I lie in lies in my name.
- 33:26They say I had a dream, I had a dream.
- 33:29How long will this continue in the hearts of these lying
- 33:35prophets who prophecy the delusions of their own minds?
- 33:39They think the dreams they tell one another will make my people
- 33:43forget my name, just as their ancestors forgot my name through
- 33:50Baal worship. Isn't that interesting too?
- 33:54And I actually was. I'm reading this.
- 33:56I didn't even have this in mind until just now when I'm reading
- 33:59this. But oh gosh, these people, I
- 34:04have heard a lot of people dreaming, lucid dreaming.
- 34:08That's what I was that just came to mind was lucid dreaming and
- 34:13that seems to have some demonic or evil spiritual interactions
- 34:22with it. And and again, is that modern
- 34:26day bail type worship because it says that will make people
- 34:31forget my name. You know, it's it's our minds
- 34:35that the enemy of God is after in changing our minds, changing
- 34:41our minds to evil. And God wants us to be the way
- 34:45he created us to be. And so it is a battle in our
- 34:49minds. But it's I think it's
- 34:51interesting that this statement says they think the dreams they
- 34:54tell one another will make my people forget my name.
- 34:58So it looks like there's a purpose behind it, to forget
- 35:01God's name, just as their ancestors forgot my name through
- 35:06Bale worship. So when they started worshipping
- 35:10Bale, apparently they forgot about the true God.
- 35:15And as a reminder, Elijah had a confrontation with, I think it
- 35:21was a few 100 maybe prophets of Baal.
- 35:24And they had, if you want to call it like a test or a
- 35:30showdown and actually Elijah, because he had the power of God,
- 35:40he won hands down. So the profits of bail were
- 35:43trying to, they were getting trying to get a fire lit without
- 35:47doing it themselves. And the bail profits couldn't
- 35:51get the fire lit. And then Elijah, on the other
- 35:54hand, doused the whole, all the wood and everything with water
- 35:59so much that it was like I I just like an overabundance of
- 36:03water. And then he called on God to
- 36:05light the fire after it had been doused with water.
- 36:08So this is defying natural occurrences.
- 36:14And and then he had the, the largest, you know, fire that I
- 36:20mean, not even just the largest, but the only fire that was lit.
- 36:23And so then all these Bale prophets who were worshipping
- 36:27this, they realize, you know, they had they were worshipping
- 36:30something that had no power and they were mistaken.
- 36:35So anyway, it's just this Bale entity has been throughout
- 36:41history in the Bible here. And again, like I said, just
- 36:45look up the picture of it and see if you recall any current
- 36:49events in our world that look anything like that.
- 36:52So let the prophet who has a dream recount the dream, but let
- 36:57the one who has my word speak it faithfully.
- 37:01For what has straw to do with grain declares the Lord.
- 37:06Is not my word like fire, declares the Lord and like a
- 37:11hammer that breaks a rock into pieces.
- 37:15So it says like God is a consuming fire and it says like
- 37:21the cornerstone will, you know, it's the the rock from the
- 37:25corner that breaks that will crush everything.
- 37:29And that's referring to Jesus. But it's also like a hammer that
- 37:32breaks a rock into pieces. When we read Scripture, the word
- 37:36of God does kind of break us down because we start to see how
- 37:41we were against God, how we were rebellious to God.
- 37:46And we start seeing those things that we may not have realized or
- 37:50we may have. And but it becomes very apparent
- 37:53when you read the word of God. So a lot of people don't like to
- 37:57read the word of God because it's convicting.
- 38:00And convicting is very much different from condemning.
- 38:04Condemning means, you know, sending to hell or convicting
- 38:08means like you're guilty. And so the guilty stuff, we
- 38:12don't like to feel guilty, but the good thing about feeling
- 38:16guilty is that we can do something about it.
- 38:18We can ask for forgiveness, surrender it to God, ask God for
- 38:24help with it, and then that feeling of guilt is taken away
- 38:28from us. Like there is this freedom and
- 38:30this peace that God gives when someone turns it over to God and
- 38:36let's God deal with it. Like truly surrenders.
- 38:39That is, that weight is lifted off of a person.
- 38:44OK, back to scripture. Therefore, declares the Lord, I
- 38:47am against the prophets who steal from one another.
- 38:51Words supposedly from me. Yes, declares the Lord.
- 38:55I am against the prophets who wage their own tongues and yet
- 38:59declare the Lord. Declares indeed I am against
- 39:03those who prophecy false dreams, declares the Lord.
- 39:08They tell them and lead my people astray with their
- 39:11reckless lies, yet I did not send or appoint them.
- 39:17They do not benefit these people in the least.
- 39:21It declares the Lord. That's another thing that I
- 39:24think is probably a good measure of what if somebody tells you
- 39:28your tells you their dream and believe it's from God?
- 39:33Does it benefit people? Like what is the benefit is in
- 39:37it? Is it a good thing for the
- 39:41people to know that? Why would God speak that?
- 39:44So those are all questions to ask when someone says that they
- 39:47dreamt something. When these people are a prophet
- 39:52or a priest, ask you what is the message from the Lord?
- 39:55Say to them what message? I will forsake you, declares the
- 39:59Lord. If a prophet or a priest or
- 40:02anyone else claims this is a message from the Lord, I will
- 40:06punish them and their household. I wonder if that applies today
- 40:10too, because I do. You can find people online who
- 40:14will say I got this message from the Lord.
- 40:17And that's pretty, I think everybody needs to be very
- 40:21hesitant and saying that they got this message from the Lord
- 40:25because of what this says here. If a prophet or a priest or
- 40:30anyone else claims this is a message from the Lord, I will
- 40:35punish them and their household. So that's kind of a, you know,
- 40:41anyone who knows Scripture, you're not going to be pretty,
- 40:44you're not going to be very quick to say this is a message
- 40:46from the Lord because if it isn't, you're going to be
- 40:50punished. And your household, this is what
- 40:54each of you keeps saying to your friends and other Israel
- 40:57Israelites. What is the Lord's answer or
- 41:01what has the Lord spoken? But you must not mention a
- 41:06message from the Lord again, because each one's word becomes
- 41:12their own message. So you distort the words of the
- 41:16living God, the Lord Almighty our God.
- 41:19This is what you keep saying to a prophet.
- 41:23What is the Lord's answer to you or what has the Lord spoken
- 41:27although you claim quote this is a message from the Lord.
- 41:32This is what the Lord says you use the words this is a message
- 41:37from the Lord. Even though I told you, you must
- 41:39not claim this is a message from the Lord boy that is repeated
- 41:45quite a bit when God repeats things he really wants to
- 41:47emphasize. I don't think many people should
- 41:50really be using this is a message from the Lord unless
- 41:54you're reading scripture. And because way you could bring
- 41:58on punishment and to not only you but your household too.
- 42:03Therefore I will surely forget you and cast you out of my
- 42:07presence along with the city I gave you and your ancestors.
- 42:12I will bring on you everlasting disgrace, everlasting shame that
- 42:17will not be forgotten. So that's the end of chapter 23
- 42:23and I will just read through the questions and answers and then
- 42:27we will wrap this one up. So who were these prophets and
- 42:33what were they doing? These false prophets and godless
- 42:35priests were in a position to be spiritual leaders, but had
- 42:38actually corrupted the people by introducing idolatry and living
- 42:43immoral lives. Though the spiritual depravity
- 42:48of the leaders of the Northern Kingdom was well known, Jeremiah
- 42:52was astonished that Judah would go the same way.
- 42:56Most likely, they engaged in immoral practices of Pagan
- 43:01worship, including temple prostitution and human
- 43:05sacrifice. Some think the people of Judah
- 43:09mixed paganism with the worship of God, setting up a repulsive
- 43:14hybrid that lasted until Judah fell to the Babylonians.
- 43:20Weren't the prophets on God's side?
- 43:22Prophets were supposed to speak only the words of the Lord.
- 43:27As such, they guided the people towards righteousness.
- 43:31But the false prophets referenced in these verses
- 43:34created their own messages, usually words that were positive
- 43:39for the nation and words that the people wanted to hear.
- 43:43They did this in order to receive financial benefit.
- 43:46We can probably certainly see some of those today too.
- 43:51What wickedness had the prophets and priests brought into the
- 43:55temple during the reigns of Ahaz and Manasseh?
- 43:58Worshipping the Lord was compromised when idols, altars
- 44:02and ashira poles were set up in the temple.
- 44:05Ahaz had the king priest Uriah build an altar patterned after a
- 44:10Pagan altar in Damascus. He replaced the bronze bulls
- 44:14that held the sea, the large metal washing pool, with a stone
- 44:18base, even though dressed or cut stone defiled the temple
- 44:24according to Exodus 20, verse 25.
- 44:28How did these liars ever get to be prophets?
- 44:32Many of Judah's spiritual leaders had accommodated Pagan
- 44:36practices and justified their own actions by telling lies.
- 44:40Over time they subverted God's true purposes and became false
- 44:45prophets and godless priests. Were the false prophets
- 44:49deliberately deceptive? Their messages consisted of what
- 44:53people wanted to hear, vain hopes of peace rather than what
- 44:58the Lord announced would happen. An agreeable prophecy could
- 45:03bring financial gain. The false prophets message were
- 45:06the result of deliberate deception, lies, and self
- 45:11delusions. Since they spoke from their own
- 45:14minds, not from the mouth of the Lord, their words had no genuine
- 45:19authority. How did a prophet stand in the
- 45:22counsel of the Lord? In Amos chapter 3, verse 7, the
- 45:25Hebrew word for counsel is translated plan, meaning the
- 45:30purposes God has promised to disclose to His chosen servants.
- 45:36Referencing Jeremiah 23 verse 20, the false prophets had not
- 45:40stood before the throne of God in prayer and worship waiting
- 45:44for His Word. They had not heard His
- 45:47pronouncement. Instead, they created their own
- 45:50prophecies to please the crowds. Events quickly confirmed
- 45:55Jeremiah's authentic prophecy, for Babylon soon crushed Judah
- 46:00and its people, who were full of false hopes of security, peace
- 46:06and security. We're hearing a lot of that
- 46:08today. I think that's kind of a warning
- 46:11sign. How much prophecy did Jeremiah
- 46:14understand? Did Jeremiah know he was
- 46:16prophesying about the Messiah? Jeremiah was pointing to a
- 46:20future day, to a coming king similar to David, who would
- 46:24fulfill all God's covenant promises.
- 46:26Jeremiah must have recognized that this coming king would be
- 46:30someone extraordinary. He may even have connected these
- 46:35promises with this prophecies of a new covenant.
- 46:39But it's also possible that his view is limited, allowing him
- 46:44only to see them as they applied to the physical renewal of
- 46:47Israel. There is little doubt, however,
- 46:50that Jeremiah could see a coming day when a righteous branch
- 46:54would grow from Davidde family tree.
- 46:57The branch would stand in stark contrast to all the wicked and
- 47:01depraved branches are the earlier kings that Judah had so
- 47:05miserably failed the people. Jeremiah also knew that the name
- 47:09of this righteous branch would be the Lord our righteous
- 47:13Savior. Although Jeremiah may have
- 47:16viewed this phrase simply as the name of a man, Zedekiah, for
- 47:21example, Judas king during part of Jeremiah's ministry, meant
- 47:25The Lord is my righteousness. Still, Jeremiah probably saw
- 47:30here at least a hint of the beautiful doctrine of
- 47:34justification. It is not our good works or our
- 47:39merit that makes us right with God, but the fact that Jesus is
- 47:44our righteousness. And that's found in First
- 47:47Corinthians chapter one, verse 30.
- 47:52Where does God live? In the ancient Near East, people
- 47:55believed that the gods in the Little G gods occupied various
- 48:01realms of nature and were confined to specific lands.
- 48:06However, God says that he is not limited by location.
- 48:11He is both imminent, a God nearby, and transcendent, a God
- 48:16far away. He is both omniscient and
- 48:19omnipresent. There is nothing in the created
- 48:23world that escapes his notice. Why were people so easily LED
- 48:29astray by nature? People like to hear positive
- 48:32messages, so it's not surprising that the people of Judah were
- 48:36swayed by false prophets who told them what they wanted to
- 48:39hear. The apostle Paul described such
- 48:42prophets as those who say what their itching ears want to hear.
- 48:48And that's the end of chapter 23.
- 48:51So we basically were told about a future Messiah savior that
- 48:57would be coming and reigning as king.
- 49:01And we were told about lying prophets who say good things,
- 49:05but they're not really hearing from God and to be aware from
- 49:09aware of them. So that's concludes chapter 23.
- 49:13Hope you come back for the next chapter.
