- 0:10Speaker 1: the twenty twenty two Patriots Unfiltered Draft Show. Welcome to
- 0:14Speaker 1: the NFL Draft. All right, Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It
- 0:19Speaker 1: is Day three of the draft and our Draft extravaganza.
- 0:25Speaker 1: We'll be here until four o'clock Eastern time. Mike Dusou,
- 0:28Speaker 1: Eric Sclavino, Paul Prolo, myself, Matt Morrell talking the draft
- 0:33Speaker 1: in particular, of course, the New England Patriots, who have
- 0:36Speaker 1: had a number of picks since our show ended yesterday.
- 0:41Speaker 1: So which of you find, gentlemen, want to run down
- 0:44Speaker 1: where the Patriots are right now? Mike Duso as his
- 0:47Speaker 1: thumb in the year. I'm not sure if that means anything,
- 0:49Speaker 1: but I mean I'm good, I'm okay, go ahead, place.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Why don't you bring us up to day? Bring us
- 0:54Speaker 1: up to date. So three fourth round picks were selected today,
- 0:57Speaker 1: Jack Jones, cornerback, running back Pierre Strong and a quarterback Bailey.
- 1:04Speaker 1: So we made a strange pick on day one and
- 1:06Speaker 1: a Strong pick on day three. Uh, and it's hard
- 1:09Speaker 1: to keep up with the joneses around am I right? Yeah,
- 1:12Speaker 1: oh Eric, Eric, I knew that was coming. Uh, you know,
- 1:15Speaker 1: yeah before the show. Yeah, I had to do it. Well,
- 1:17Speaker 1: it's it's I guess it's all coming together. And I
- 1:20Speaker 1: was sick in this morning. I'm like, you know, for
- 1:21Speaker 1: a team that claims they don't draft for need, they
- 1:23Speaker 1: sure to draft a lot of players and positions that
- 1:26Speaker 1: they need. So wow, I think still happens this year
- 1:28Speaker 1: that they need a lot of positions. That's true, But
- 1:31Speaker 1: I mean I think in general, good teams draft for need. Yeah,
- 1:34Speaker 1: you try to get good players that fill the needs
- 1:36Speaker 1: that you have you don't reach. But you know, like
- 1:40Speaker 1: someone taking Kenny Pickett at three, you know that's that's
- 1:43Speaker 1: not smart drafting. Yeah, you know, but I mean, you know,
- 1:46Speaker 1: just looking at and you know, we can get into
- 1:48Speaker 1: the need gritty of each of these guys, but um,
- 1:51Speaker 1: two cornerbacks. Thought that was a big need. You needed
- 1:54Speaker 1: a guard for sure, you got one. For Uh, we
- 1:56Speaker 1: would love to get a fast wide receiver. You got
- 1:59Speaker 1: one of those, of running back to kind of groom.
- 2:02Speaker 1: As James White gets a little older, Damien Harris is
- 2:04Speaker 1: going to be with some expo creations with some real.
- 2:06Speaker 1: You know, speed, that's my buzzword of the days. See
- 2:09Speaker 1: the need for speed. Still questions, you know, questions Front
- 2:13Speaker 1: seven linebacker haven't been touched. So I think that that's
- 2:16Speaker 1: a point of I don't say contention, but something to
- 2:20Speaker 1: consider going forward. And I think it, you know, says
- 2:23Speaker 1: a lot. I mean, after the draft, you always look
- 2:25Speaker 1: and you say, all right, this is primarily the group
- 2:27Speaker 1: you're going into camp with. Here parts you like, there's
- 2:30Speaker 1: good depth, there's gonna be good competition. Here, here are
- 2:32Speaker 1: parts where we really need somebody to step up. And
- 2:34Speaker 1: I think that's the case with the second level, the
- 2:36Speaker 1: edge of the line. Yeah, and you never know, because
- 2:38Speaker 1: they'll never tell us. But when you talk about Front seven,
- 2:41Speaker 1: are they satisfied with what they have or did the
- 2:44Speaker 1: board just not fall where they could get guys that
- 2:47Speaker 1: they liked? You know what I mean? I tend to
- 2:49Speaker 1: look at things on the positive side. I think it's
- 2:51Speaker 1: an indication and this is what we talked about on
- 2:53Speaker 1: the show yesterday and I wrote about it last night.
- 2:56Speaker 1: I think it's an indication that they are expecting some
- 2:59Speaker 1: contributions from a group of guys that really hasn't played
- 3:02Speaker 1: a whole lot in the last two to three years,
- 3:04Speaker 1: depending on the individual. Josh u Ja, Anthony Jennings, Ronnie Perkins,
- 3:10Speaker 1: Cameron mcgron right, and I would even throw ray Kwon
- 3:13Speaker 1: McMillan in there, even though he's not a draft pick.
- 3:15Speaker 1: He was here last year towards ACL in camp. I
- 3:18Speaker 1: think they're expecting something out of him. So out of
- 3:21Speaker 1: that group, if you can get two guys to give
- 3:24Speaker 1: you significant contributions, is that better than drafting somebody that
- 3:28Speaker 1: you don't you know, it's just as big of an
- 3:29Speaker 1: unknown with less experience in the system. Yeah, that's what
- 3:33Speaker 1: Bill's looking at it. Even last night, Macro mentioned some
- 3:36Speaker 1: of these guys as draft picks. Yeah mcgrown specifically, Yeah, Yeah,
- 3:41Speaker 1: I mean it's amazing how they do it, how we
- 3:43Speaker 1: have extra draft No, but I mean they're certainly questions.
- 3:46Speaker 1: And I mean I'm looking at, you know, the depth
- 3:49Speaker 1: chart right now where you have five guys coming off
- 3:51Speaker 1: significant injuries that missed all of last year for the
- 3:54Speaker 1: most part, in mcgron, McMillan, Longie Hall, Jennings, and I
- 3:59Speaker 1: just look at the edge and the outside linebacker spot,
- 4:02Speaker 1: and you know, Paul mentioned Perkins, Oo j Judon and Jennings.
- 4:05Speaker 1: That's kind of it. That seems really light to me,
- 4:08Speaker 1: really light and obviously unproven. So I think they'll probably
- 4:11Speaker 1: be some depth picks maybe at that spot. Not that
- 4:13Speaker 1: I'm expecting those guys anybody selected at this point to
- 4:16Speaker 1: come in and really be a guy. Maybe maybe every
- 4:19Speaker 1: now and then it happens that, you know, you capture
- 4:21Speaker 1: some magic. But I'd watch that spot and I think,
- 4:24Speaker 1: just like going into last year, I felt like, man,
- 4:26Speaker 1: they are really thin at corner and it came back
- 4:28Speaker 1: to bite him. Right now, still some draft to go,
- 4:31Speaker 1: still undrafted, you know, but for the most part, I
- 4:34Speaker 1: think this could be a thing we're talking about this
- 4:36Speaker 1: year of man, we just we don't quite have the
- 4:38Speaker 1: edge setter. We don't quite have that guy off the
- 4:41Speaker 1: edge to compliment Jude on. Everybody's focusing on Judan and
- 4:43Speaker 1: Barmore and the other guys can't make plays. That's that's
- 4:46Speaker 1: my concern right now, as we still sit with three
- 4:48Speaker 1: picks to go. Yeah, I was just going to add
- 4:50Speaker 1: that four picks. We got through the fourth round already
- 4:53Speaker 1: today and we're into the fifth, and right now the
- 4:56Speaker 1: Patriots don't have a fifth round pick. Normally, Bill doesn't
- 4:59Speaker 1: like to go around without making one. You've got three
- 5:02Speaker 1: picks in the sixth, you've got one seventh rounder. Paul
- 5:05Speaker 1: and I were talking earlier about hopefully they make a
- 5:07Speaker 1: little move to package round and move up into the
- 5:10Speaker 1: fifth round, you know, because right now you're about forty
- 5:12Speaker 1: picks away. Happen. So just just a couple of noteworthy
- 5:18Speaker 1: things around the league. The top of the fifth round,
- 5:21Speaker 1: Washington took Sam Howell, quarterback from North Carolina that some
- 5:25Speaker 1: people were surprised was still available. Um. He's more of
- 5:28Speaker 1: a to me, just a good football player than a quarterback.
- 5:31Speaker 1: He's a power runner, Um, not really a gifted passer,
- 5:36Speaker 1: but he's a winner. I think he's a good player.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Fifth round to me, you know that that makes that
- 5:42Speaker 1: makes some sense. Um. And a couple of punchers have
- 5:45Speaker 1: come off the board as well as a kicker, is it?
- 5:48Speaker 1: Is it? Who's the kicker from Melish's a cole Tracy?
- 5:51Speaker 1: Is that an old skid? I forget. I have to
- 5:53Speaker 1: go back and look now. But two punchers off the board.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Not God, not God's gift to punting right from San
- 5:59Speaker 1: Jose stight wherever they had all right? Whe is he
- 6:02Speaker 1: from Diego from California because the reason arrived. But anyway,
- 6:09Speaker 1: he's still on the board. Kiper said he had him
- 6:11Speaker 1: at his third punter a lot of people, He's not surprised,
- 6:14Speaker 1: and the kid from Penn State went first, and then
- 6:16Speaker 1: the kid from Georgia Camarada or something like that. Also
- 6:20Speaker 1: when it's York, Cade York is the kicker from Tracy
- 6:24Speaker 1: I think is a X kicker from Lash but Cade
- 6:28Speaker 1: York went UM a couple of picks. After the Patriots
- 6:32Speaker 1: took Jack Jones Um, he went to UH Cleveland and
- 6:36Speaker 1: then a couple of punters went Um as well. So yeah,
- 6:40Speaker 1: it's just I find it interesting that um, everybody was
- 6:44Speaker 1: all over this generational punter and two other punchers got
- 6:49Speaker 1: taken in the fourth round over him. It's so easy
- 6:52Speaker 1: in this draft process for the group think to kick
- 6:54Speaker 1: in and somebody brings somebody up and it becomes a
- 6:57Speaker 1: name and become He's not necessarily you know where you
- 7:00Speaker 1: would say, oh, that the best guy, but because that's
- 7:03Speaker 1: what people talk about and and then the fans expect it.
- 7:06Speaker 1: So you know, had the fans drafted him, arise at
- 7:10Speaker 1: earlier like oh, that's great if they drafted the other
- 7:13Speaker 1: guy who maybe everyone in the NFL who legitimately does
- 7:16Speaker 1: this had the other punter ahead of him. Well, oh
- 7:19Speaker 1: they could have had the other guy. You know, you
- 7:20Speaker 1: just get kind of stuck into that, I mean reading
- 7:22Speaker 1: and assuming they know what they're talking about. Well, sometimes
- 7:25Speaker 1: it happens, like Joe Cardona year, everybody said that they
- 7:28Speaker 1: needed a long snapper. He's from the Navy, Like if
- 7:30Speaker 1: everybody knew, it felt too right, and it happened. But
- 7:34Speaker 1: I go back to what I've been saying for a
- 7:36Speaker 1: while now, is I don't think there's any need to
- 7:39Speaker 1: draft a punter. Jake Bailey is a Pro Bowl caliber,
- 7:42Speaker 1: All Pro caliber player. A four million dollars is not
- 7:45Speaker 1: going to break your back. Well, I know I'm not
- 7:48Speaker 1: I'm not saying I'm just I mean I think that's
- 7:50Speaker 1: a consideration. Yes he's what is he the highest paid
- 7:52Speaker 1: punter in the league, Because I just don't think that
- 7:55Speaker 1: should ever be a consideration, especially your consideration should be
- 7:59Speaker 1: we want to players like is Jake Like I'm not
- 8:02Speaker 1: saying Jake Bailey is this arise a guy like I
- 8:05Speaker 1: don't think he's God's gift to punting, But is he
- 8:07Speaker 1: a good punter. Yes, do you think he's a good punch?
- 8:09Speaker 1: He was. I think he had had to get out
- 8:11Speaker 1: an off year last year. Fred not happy with and
- 8:15Speaker 1: and I think they turned over Ryan Allen before you
- 8:17Speaker 1: really thought. I mean, I thought Ryan Allen was gonna
- 8:19Speaker 1: be here forever. I'll ask that question again after the
- 8:21Speaker 1: draft of the babies didn't take a punter. Think I'm
- 8:24Speaker 1: going to get a different answer. I think Jake Bailey
- 8:25Speaker 1: is that was good, though, even better than Ryan Allen was.
- 8:29Speaker 1: And Jake Bailey kicks off for you, Jake bad better
- 8:33Speaker 1: than Ryan? Yes, and he's he had an injury last
- 8:36Speaker 1: year that I think people forget do you know about?
- 8:39Speaker 1: I mean, he had a knee injury early in the year,
- 8:42Speaker 1: and we're assuming that that was the reason he had
- 8:44Speaker 1: an offer, And I'd agree with you. I don't. I
- 8:46Speaker 1: think that Eric is right that he had an injury.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I don't necessarily connect the two, right I I don't
- 8:50Speaker 1: think that is solely the reason that he had an offer.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I don't think he was a disaster already, know like
- 8:57Speaker 1: that we need to we need to replace this guy.
- 8:58Speaker 1: But I connect the dots because as a rookie, he
- 9:01Speaker 1: wasn't hurt. He had a great year as a second
- 9:03Speaker 1: year player. He wasn't hurt. He was an All Pro.
- 9:06Speaker 1: His third year he was hurt, and he had a
- 9:08Speaker 1: little bit of an off year. I know I'm connecting
- 9:10Speaker 1: those dots. You're out, But we've also they don't need
- 9:12Speaker 1: a punter. Yeah, bottom line. You you study punters, Eric,
- 9:16Speaker 1: and you've seen where punters just lose it, but not
- 9:20Speaker 1: in their third year, not like that, like but for
- 9:23Speaker 1: no particular let me ask you. But here's I think
- 9:25Speaker 1: you're right. Pat O'Neill. Was this guy I know you're
- 9:27Speaker 1: thinking of, and I agree with you, but he was star.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Did you see any signs of Jake Bailey looking like
- 9:32Speaker 1: he lost it last year? No? Like he lost it? No,
- 9:35Speaker 1: I don't. I don't think he was as right as
- 9:38Speaker 1: an All Pro. He was an All Pro the previous year.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I don't think he was at that level. I don't
- 9:43Speaker 1: think he was bad last The other the other reason
- 9:45Speaker 1: I'm connecting the dot is because Jake Bailey clearly has
- 9:49Speaker 1: a strong kickoff leg, and there were several times last
- 9:52Speaker 1: year when they decided they wanted Nick Folk to kick
- 9:54Speaker 1: off in certain situations. Ye, that can only be explained
- 9:57Speaker 1: by the fact that Jake Bailey's knee was bothering. Not
- 10:00Speaker 1: if you listen to Bill. Yeah, but Bill doesn't always
- 10:03Speaker 1: say what he really I don't know. But that explanation
- 10:05Speaker 1: that Bill had for the kickoff that folks screwed up
- 10:07Speaker 1: in Buffalo, Yeah, was pretty detailed for a ruse. I
- 10:14Speaker 1: think he was telling you that they had a strategy
- 10:16Speaker 1: and it wasn't executed. Problem and how many times was it?
- 10:19Speaker 1: Because we had not and Bailey had two or three
- 10:22Speaker 1: kickoffs that went out of bounds. I believe he had
- 10:24Speaker 1: two two, Uh, And he had a few blocks, but
- 10:28Speaker 1: the blocks are not I don't think his fault, not necessarily. Yeah,
- 10:33Speaker 1: that's that's coverage in front of you. You know, blockers
- 10:35Speaker 1: in front of you making some mistakes. Here's kind of
- 10:38Speaker 1: a little crazy tidbit. Last year, Mac Jones was the
- 10:41Speaker 1: fifth quarterback taken. Yeah, Billy's appy was the fifth quarterback
- 10:44Speaker 1: taken this year. The difference between I try to make
- 10:48Speaker 1: that time and yeah, it dumbfounded Fred Regiment six. Um,
- 10:55Speaker 1: let's let's go down the line with the particular players,
- 11:00Speaker 1: uh and talk about each one. We talked about the
- 11:03Speaker 1: receiver yesterday, right, we had Yeah, they took Mark the
- 11:08Speaker 1: run on Marcus Jones. He was the first one, which
- 11:10Speaker 1: um digging a little bit more. If you want to
- 11:13Speaker 1: do Marcus Marcus, I don't know if we want to
- 11:14Speaker 1: do him. Yesterday we did him, didn't be good on him. Yeah.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Were we on the air at that point when we
- 11:19Speaker 1: took Marcus Jones, Yeah, we talked about Marcus Jones. I
- 11:22Speaker 1: don't I don't remember if we did or not. We listeners,
- 11:28Speaker 1: let's reset, we'll play it in the replay when we're
- 11:32Speaker 1: driving home. Yea. So Marcus Jones, Uh, I mean people
- 11:35Speaker 1: because of his size, maybe a slock corner, but I
- 11:36Speaker 1: think he's he's a dynamic return guy. I mean I
- 11:39Speaker 1: read a couple of things of that alone. He's really good.
- 11:42Speaker 1: And I saw a speculation last night. He's talented, makes
- 11:45Speaker 1: plays on the ball. You know, it's just a question
- 11:48Speaker 1: of he's a slot small, he's sure outside corner. But
- 11:53Speaker 1: then today five eight is he that's yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 11:57Speaker 1: we actually just saw him. Yeah he's small, yeah, small.
- 12:01Speaker 1: But then today they took Jack Jones, who has had
- 12:04Speaker 1: some off the field issues, got kicked out of USC.
- 12:07Speaker 1: I think he was academically ineligible. He got busted for
- 12:09Speaker 1: breaking into a restaurant. Um, but it was hungry but
- 12:13Speaker 1: thrown out of USC. Yeah, but he's he's that guy.
- 12:16Speaker 1: He's the man coverage outside long, athletic kind of guy. Um.
- 12:20Speaker 1: I think they met with him maybe three times, so
- 12:23Speaker 1: clearly doing their due diligence on him. So, uh, those
- 12:27Speaker 1: two picks just between the third and fourth round, uh,
- 12:30Speaker 1: to kind of start us off. It's it's it's a
- 12:31Speaker 1: big need. They needed cornerbacks. You know. They brought in
- 12:34Speaker 1: Terence Mitchell and Malcolm Butler, veteran guys to kind of
- 12:38Speaker 1: stop gap, and you know, you hope that that these
- 12:40Speaker 1: guys can emerge. And oh, Bill's got a Yeah, we
- 12:47Speaker 1: liked him, and that's a that's a good pick for them.
- 12:50Speaker 1: That's it. They also got a uh, what's his name's brother,
- 12:54Speaker 1: Dalvin Cook's brother, James from Georgia. It's another great fit
- 12:57Speaker 1: for them too. For them, but I think that a
- 13:00Speaker 1: little hot, Like I think that was a little bit
- 13:01Speaker 1: of a reach for them. But I do like the player.
- 13:03Speaker 1: I think he's good. I think and this is a
- 13:06Speaker 1: round I thought maybe fourth round, So this is around
- 13:08Speaker 1: where Shakier was was projected, you know, top of the
- 13:12Speaker 1: fifth round. I think for an offense like that, he
- 13:15Speaker 1: has a chance to make an impact right away. That
- 13:17Speaker 1: they sort of Cole Beasley's out. Their complimentary receivers have
- 13:21Speaker 1: been turned over. Cole Beasley's gone, Emmanuel Sanders has gone,
- 13:25Speaker 1: Gabe Davis has moved up a notch with Diggs. I
- 13:28Speaker 1: think he I think Shakira will have a chance to
- 13:30Speaker 1: contribute right away. I think he's talented. Patriots also took
- 13:34Speaker 1: a running back. I like that pick. Okay, Yeah, you know,
- 13:38Speaker 1: Mike and I talked on the podcast on running backs
- 13:41Speaker 1: about the need to maybe get that James White guy.
- 13:44Speaker 1: You know, James White's not going to be around much longer.
- 13:47Speaker 1: He has explosive speed. For it was the four three
- 13:51Speaker 1: three sevens, the fastest running back at the company. And uh,
- 13:56Speaker 1: you know a lot of production as a receiver. Now
- 13:59Speaker 1: the caveat is South Dakota State, yep. Okay, so that
- 14:02Speaker 1: that's part of it. But you can't teach speed, Paul No,
- 14:05Speaker 1: I agree. I agree. That's why I like this pick.
- 14:08Speaker 1: I lead with that. I this this is a pick.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I like, it wasn't the you know, it wasn't one
- 14:14Speaker 1: of those you know, they have to get a pass
- 14:16Speaker 1: catching running back in this draft at some point. But
- 14:18Speaker 1: if you get an opportunity for one, I think it's there.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Some people don't. This is another one that was picked
- 14:24Speaker 1: a rounder so higher than most people thought, and some
- 14:26Speaker 1: people are not happy about it. I kind of like,
- 14:29Speaker 1: I kind of like the Athletic Fund, what are you
- 14:32Speaker 1: doing at this stage? It's like it's it's like millionaires
- 14:35Speaker 1: arguing over the next one or two million. But yeah,
- 14:37Speaker 1: two time captain and you know, not overwhelming production, but
- 14:40Speaker 1: but you know, consistent UM twenty catches as a junior,
- 14:44Speaker 1: twenty two catches as a senior UM. So I think
- 14:47Speaker 1: he's he's an interesting player. And again I to speak
- 14:50Speaker 1: to Paul's uh, to Paul's point of the speed and
- 14:52Speaker 1: just general athleticism of this class. That's that's kind of
- 14:56Speaker 1: coming into view. I think, yeah, And I like, I
- 14:58Speaker 1: don't know if anybody listened to Matt grow last night.
- 15:01Speaker 1: It was late. I want speed didn't right, But I mean,
- 15:05Speaker 1: you know, it's like we have been talking about how
- 15:08Speaker 1: we think the Patriots need to get faster, and it's
- 15:11Speaker 1: nice to hear from the people who are making the
- 15:13Speaker 1: decisions that they sort of agree with that. And Macrow
- 15:17Speaker 1: was emphasizing that last night. Look, if you want to
- 15:18Speaker 1: get faster, you need to draft fast players. Taka take
- 15:26Speaker 1: the hair right, Yeah, exactly. Um uh, the first Jones
- 15:31Speaker 1: cornerback very fast. This kid Pierre strong fast. I mean,
- 15:35Speaker 1: so they do need to get faster, and clearly they
- 15:39Speaker 1: were targeting fast players. So if they're taking them a
- 15:41Speaker 1: little bit higher than they should be, maybe that's because
- 15:43Speaker 1: they want to make sure that they get these guys
- 15:45Speaker 1: that they know are faster than than others. Yeah, I'm
- 15:47Speaker 1: wonder what this pick potentially means for JJ Taylor. I
- 15:50Speaker 1: know some people spotted him working out with with the
- 15:52Speaker 1: group and seemed like he had bulked up a little
- 15:54Speaker 1: bit and he was always was ahead a little bit
- 15:57Speaker 1: of a head scratcher last year that he didn't really
- 15:59Speaker 1: give him a change. They went right back to bolding.
- 16:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you right now, I would be stunned
- 16:03Speaker 1: if he's on the team next year. I think it's
- 16:05Speaker 1: it's clear by his inactive memory and by by his
- 16:09Speaker 1: inactivity last year, coupled with what do what is it
- 16:12Speaker 1: you doing? Start with bringing back White in the first place. Yeah,
- 16:16Speaker 1: I mean that's that's a move, that's Patriots one on one.
- 16:19Speaker 1: We have this young guy who's coming on and demanding
- 16:22Speaker 1: playing time. We're gonna let the veteran go as a
- 16:25Speaker 1: free agent. They re upped him for the second year
- 16:27Speaker 1: in a row. Yeah, coming off a major injury. So
- 16:30Speaker 1: I think that again, look at what they do. I
- 16:34Speaker 1: think all signs are telling you that they don't like J. J.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Taylor very much. Um, they also drafted a quarterback they did, Yes, yeah,
- 16:41Speaker 1: and uh yeah, he was on what He's won, Johnny.
- 16:44Speaker 1: He was my top guy on potential Patriots today. Um,
- 16:47Speaker 1: the only quarterback I put. But you know, he's kind
- 16:49Speaker 1: of Mackie. He's a guy that not physically crazy but smart,
- 16:54Speaker 1: knows where to go with the ball, gets it out quick.
- 16:56Speaker 1: I think he, you know, kind of has that same
- 16:59Speaker 1: kind of style to play. But I just think it's
- 17:00Speaker 1: good business generally the draft quarterbacks. Steadham, he's his last year. Hoyer,
- 17:06Speaker 1: he is under a two year deal. But you know,
- 17:07Speaker 1: if you can and you know, everything I've read about
- 17:09Speaker 1: about this guy is that I'm with Mike. Could be
- 17:11Speaker 1: a good, good business, but good You know what, maybe
- 17:13Speaker 1: Stidham signed somewhere else next year, gets a chance, and
- 17:16Speaker 1: you know, then you've got this guy with a year
- 17:18Speaker 1: in the system to kind of understand and be a
- 17:20Speaker 1: long term backup. But you know, I mean I think
- 17:22Speaker 1: another thing too, is just that Max's not the biggest guy.
- 17:24Speaker 1: I think you need to be a little bit prepared
- 17:27Speaker 1: that like he could get dinged here, you know, I
- 17:29Speaker 1: think you need to have how big is this kid? Right?
- 17:33Speaker 1: He's smaller than Mac. I think he's a little bit
- 17:34Speaker 1: over six feet. But I mean, I just think the
- 17:36Speaker 1: depth is a thing, and you know, having a having
- 17:39Speaker 1: a quality backup that you know, we saw it having
- 17:41Speaker 1: a couple of years ago, Brian Hoyer in the chiefs.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Nobody's seeing Stadham. I mean, I assume he's you know,
- 17:46Speaker 1: personal grata for for as long as he's here, and
- 17:48Speaker 1: so it's just a good business. I don't think he
- 17:51Speaker 1: can ever every year. I you know, just listen. Let's
- 17:54Speaker 1: listen to this for a sc I mean, I understand
- 17:56Speaker 1: Western Kentucky is not exactly Alabama. Okay, so take it
- 18:00Speaker 1: with a grain of salt, but the stats are just
- 18:02Speaker 1: mind sixty nine point two completion percentage, fifty nine hundred
- 18:07Speaker 1: and sixty seven yards, sixty two touchdowns, eleven to eleven picks. Yeah,
- 18:11Speaker 1: one year last year. No, it was a record. I
- 18:14Speaker 1: mean it's it's it's one year. That's all. Like, he
- 18:17Speaker 1: didn't play very much. He was at the Senior Bowl.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Um Again. I think Mike talked about his physical attributes
- 18:23Speaker 1: and they are just sort of average six. I think
- 18:26Speaker 1: he's a project as a backup. But I kind of
- 18:29Speaker 1: like I just I watched him. He's not a dynamic athlete,
- 18:32Speaker 1: but he's not unathletic. He's he's okay. I think he
- 18:36Speaker 1: has a so so arm, but that production is just immense.
- 18:40Speaker 1: You bring him in, you see if he's got an
- 18:42Speaker 1: aptitude for the position. If he does, you work with
- 18:45Speaker 1: him and try to development. But he doesn't. You have
- 18:46Speaker 1: your three quarterbacks already, but if you can have him
- 18:49Speaker 1: replace your third quarterback, why not? Why not? Maybe you can?
- 18:53Speaker 1: You know, you get him in your in your system,
- 18:56Speaker 1: and over the next three months you decide heading into
- 18:58Speaker 1: camp he can be number three, your pedal Stidham and
- 19:02Speaker 1: maybe someone gives you a fifth rounder form sixth rounder.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I mean, I think that's probably wishful thinking, but maybe
- 19:07Speaker 1: you never know. I was thinking a new tackling slit
- 19:09Speaker 1: because the one out there is a little rusty Stidham
- 19:12Speaker 1: for a tackle. I was thinking to two. No, but
- 19:16Speaker 1: some of our listeners probably are you only got a
- 19:20Speaker 1: two form. I think he's a one. I think. So
- 19:22Speaker 1: that's right. That's where they are right now. They've got
- 19:25Speaker 1: three picks in the sixth and one in the seventh. Yeah,
- 19:29Speaker 1: none in the fifth, but we're in the night. We're
- 19:33Speaker 1: getting close. Yeah, but I would look, I would look
- 19:38Speaker 1: slot receiver still. I mean, my guy from UCLA is
- 19:42Speaker 1: still out there, Kyle Philip phillip Um. But just I
- 19:46Speaker 1: think you need depth at outside linebacker edge that I though.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Those are the areas I think they have to address.
- 19:51Speaker 1: It's really I mean, they did really nothing in free
- 19:54Speaker 1: agency other than Mack Wilson Bentley bringing Davis back. But
- 19:58Speaker 1: I think those are the spots to watch these us for.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Here's a I'm just looking at the board as we
- 20:02Speaker 1: go down. The Vikings have two picks, the Bears have
- 20:05Speaker 1: two picks. The Giants already picked twice, and they have
- 20:10Speaker 1: another pick in this round. So Dallas has two picks
- 20:14Speaker 1: later in the round. So just teams that have teams
- 20:16Speaker 1: have multiple picks. Ye, Patriots could move in maybe yeah,
- 20:20Speaker 1: all right? Eight five five pats five hundred is the
- 20:22Speaker 1: AS ticket hut line eight five five Pats five hundred.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Email is web radio at Patriots dot com. Let's get
- 20:28Speaker 1: everybody involved here at this point, Um Sean and Vancouver
- 20:33Speaker 1: is first up on the AS ticket hut line. What's up, Sean, Sean,
- 20:39Speaker 1: can you hear me? Yes? Yeah, hello, yeah, okay yeah.
- 20:42Speaker 1: There's still four players that are available that I like,
- 20:47Speaker 1: and one of them is the cornerback that you like.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Brett is three Quel one. He's player. I know they
- 20:53Speaker 1: already have two corners they took, but he's still there.
- 20:56Speaker 1: There's a tackle Rashid Walker, edge player Kingsley Um and
- 21:01Speaker 1: Barry and nose tackle John Ridgeway. So those I don't
- 21:03Speaker 1: know if they'll last to six. I don't know if
- 21:05Speaker 1: the Patriots will move up into the fifth. Maybe they'll
- 21:08Speaker 1: trade of Harry with a sixth round and and get
- 21:12Speaker 1: to go up um. In terms of who they've taken,
- 21:17Speaker 1: I think Cole Strange is starting guard, Um, si Quon Thornton,
- 21:21Speaker 1: downfield threat, wide receiver, Marcus Jones block corner Um. He
- 21:25Speaker 1: also has special team, so that's good. I'm not crazy
- 21:28Speaker 1: about Jack Jones. I'd be surprised he makes the team,
- 21:31Speaker 1: Pierre Strong Junior. I think he's a backup to White,
- 21:34Speaker 1: third down guy Um and Bailey Um Zappe, I think
- 21:39Speaker 1: he Um he's a good backup. He might push Jared
- 21:42Speaker 1: Stidham and be the backup. So that's that's where we are. Yeah,
- 21:46Speaker 1: well that would probably be number three. I think Hoyer's
- 21:48Speaker 1: your backup. Well, yeah, they'll keep three, but I mean
- 21:52Speaker 1: they'll keep be there instead of Stidham. I see what
- 21:55Speaker 1: shans he could be like technically ahead of Stidham in
- 21:59Speaker 1: terms of getting reps. You know, yeah, well I mean
- 22:02Speaker 1: if Zappi or zap Yeah, I know. I think the
- 22:05Speaker 1: head of Hoyer, he don't know. The backup is Hoyer. Well,
- 22:09Speaker 1: you don't give a guy guaranteed money for two years
- 22:11Speaker 1: but then then you're gonna cut them. I don't see
- 22:14Speaker 1: that happening. They guarantee. Think he's your backup. Hoyer stays
- 22:19Speaker 1: of the team. He's your coach slash backup, right back
- 22:23Speaker 1: up Rich Dunlop. But I think they're gonna want to
- 22:27Speaker 1: see what I think he's the number two quarterback. I'm
- 22:30Speaker 1: happy if something happens to Mac Jones. Brian Hoyer will
- 22:34Speaker 1: play early, early at this point. I mean again, they
- 22:38Speaker 1: must be poorly run if they're giving the guy that
- 22:41Speaker 1: they don't want to play guaranteed money. Yeah, it's not
- 22:43Speaker 1: that much money. Well, he's he's the type of player, Zappy,
- 22:46Speaker 1: who could be like in the development of their system
- 22:50Speaker 1: for a quarterback the way they see Mac joneses like,
- 22:53Speaker 1: this guy is kind of similar. And well, he's not
- 22:56Speaker 1: gonna make it in the NFL, Zappy, you'll he'll never
- 23:00Speaker 1: be a starter in the NFL. FR. I don't even
- 23:02Speaker 1: know what's happened to you? What does that? I really
- 23:05Speaker 1: don't Yeah, the Patriots picked him, you know, so you're
- 23:09Speaker 1: supposed to get with it. By the way, the Patriots
- 23:13Speaker 1: have picked a lot of quarterbacks over the last twenty years. Yes,
- 23:16Speaker 1: they have. They have. Most of them have not been
- 23:18Speaker 1: very good. That's right. The Seahawks took Tariq thanks Sean,
- 23:22Speaker 1: did they. Yeah, that's the kind of guy they like, long,
- 23:26Speaker 1: long cornerbacks. Ye. Yeah, that's that's too bad. But we
- 23:32Speaker 1: got two cornerbacks. So um, all right, let's go to
- 23:36Speaker 1: Dexter in Santa Rosa, California. What's up, Dexter. Hey, guys,
- 23:41Speaker 1: I've been a long time listener. Uh, I'm a little
- 23:45Speaker 1: confused as to why they haven't their lack of interest
- 23:50Speaker 1: at the linebacker position. Um every year during the draft,
- 23:55Speaker 1: I always look at it like, okay, based off of
- 23:58Speaker 1: who they pick. This is how Belichick feels about the
- 24:03Speaker 1: guys that are on his roster. So I don't feel
- 24:06Speaker 1: this way, but I just wonder if he's looking at
- 24:08Speaker 1: it like Kwon McMillan and Cameron mc mcgron, if they
- 24:13Speaker 1: are the answer, and also Josh Ucha and Ronnie Perkins
- 24:16Speaker 1: and Mac Wilson. Yeah, I think that's I think that's
- 24:18Speaker 1: what he's saying. I think he's telling that though Bentley,
- 24:22Speaker 1: I don't. I'm not telling you he's right. I'm telling you.
- 24:24Speaker 1: I think that's what the thought process. Yeah. And then
- 24:27Speaker 1: also I've been listening to, like I said, for about
- 24:30Speaker 1: fifteen years, absolutely love your Guys show, and like, has
- 24:36Speaker 1: anyone heard from Eldred is okay? Because he hasn't checked in.
- 24:41Speaker 1: I wanted to call in, I said the first thing
- 24:43Speaker 1: after they took him, like, where's Eldred? I gotta get
- 24:45Speaker 1: him the weekend. He's not in his truck, so's Yeah,
- 24:51Speaker 1: he's been calling, just banging the table. Yeah, outside speed, right,
- 24:56Speaker 1: and now we got it, so I know, now he
- 24:59Speaker 1: checks out what's going on. I guess we gotta wait
- 25:01Speaker 1: till Tuesday. Maybe he's got yeah, maybe maybe he's letting,
- 25:04Speaker 1: giving himself time to process everything. Freddy, See how Eric
- 25:07Speaker 1: get home right right along you lockstep with Seattle? Woman
- 25:11Speaker 1: is such a Seattle type cornerback. Yeah, that's that's who
- 25:15Speaker 1: kept Pete Carroll likes. Yeah, there's one thing Pete Carroll
- 25:18Speaker 1: knows Sherman and Browner. Ye, he knows his defensive backs. Uh,
- 25:24Speaker 1: let's go to Rashod in Baltimore. What's up with shod? Hey?
- 25:29Speaker 1: What's up? What's up? Hey? Um? First I'm listening to um,
- 25:33Speaker 1: I gotta say something about the first pick before I
- 25:35Speaker 1: get about the other draft pick. Of course, I didn't
- 25:40Speaker 1: like to pick just because the value. I mean, I
- 25:42Speaker 1: really still don't like to pick. And I just still
- 25:44Speaker 1: like the Patriots board is obviously is different than everybody else.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Like leave, I made a joke in my group Chack
- 25:53Speaker 1: about Jack Jones. I said, the Patriots next upcoming picks
- 25:56Speaker 1: probably gonna be for mind, that's like the seven brown
- 25:58Speaker 1: projected person. And of course Jack Jones is like projected
- 26:02Speaker 1: six to seventh round. But I'm you know, the draft is, Um,
- 26:07Speaker 1: it's okay, I'm liking I'm liking it at least trying
- 26:09Speaker 1: to address speed at least trying to ask speed to
- 26:12Speaker 1: the team. Yeah, but like the players that they're getting,
- 26:16Speaker 1: I'm just is just questionable. It's just questionable. Yeah, I mean,
- 26:20Speaker 1: I think you're You're right. I mean, I think, look,
- 26:22Speaker 1: all these guys are going to get a chance and
- 26:24Speaker 1: taken as a whole, I'm excited in camp to get
- 26:27Speaker 1: a feel for it, especially Thornton. Just what's that speed
- 26:30Speaker 1: look like? How does that translate here? Um? But you
- 26:33Speaker 1: know it's you bring up the front too, and it's
- 26:38Speaker 1: I don't know, it doesn't look like a like a
- 26:40Speaker 1: championship level defense. It looks like a defense that's a
- 26:43Speaker 1: bunch of guys that we need to prove it and
- 26:45Speaker 1: we need to go into competition and hope that somebody
- 26:47Speaker 1: emerges and makes plays. But you don't have a lot
- 26:50Speaker 1: of high round draft pick guys that you know are
- 26:53Speaker 1: going to make an impact. I want you On and
- 26:55Speaker 1: Barmore to be able to excel, you know. Yeah, And
- 26:59Speaker 1: I feel like if we draft at least draft a
- 27:01Speaker 1: lineback or pass or somebody it'll like at least that
- 27:04Speaker 1: will push like people on the roster maybe to do better.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Like it's just like we're bringing the same people in.
- 27:09Speaker 1: So it's like yeah, like yeah, no, I know, and
- 27:12Speaker 1: and you know it's it's I mean, I know there's
- 27:15Speaker 1: an Ucha Hyke train that that was you know, pulls
- 27:17Speaker 1: out of the station last summer and never really went anywhere.
- 27:20Speaker 1: I don't have to wait till camp, Mike, Well, now
- 27:22Speaker 1: it's real. I mean in Perkins too, I mean, never
- 27:25Speaker 1: really saw much out of him. So at least Oucha
- 27:28Speaker 1: got on the field occasionally the last two years. All
- 27:30Speaker 1: these other guys that we're talking about really have never
- 27:32Speaker 1: paided Jennings, Yeah, Perkins and and you know mcgron obviously,
- 27:37Speaker 1: I mean he helped cut him some slack because he
- 27:39Speaker 1: was hurt. But we've never seen any of those other
- 27:41Speaker 1: guys really for any extended time on the field. Uja
- 27:44Speaker 1: at least has had some opportunities. Yeah, that's why I
- 27:46Speaker 1: would put him at the top of the list in
- 27:48Speaker 1: terms of expectations. But you're right, Mike, the way that
- 27:51Speaker 1: people talked about him last summer was like he had
- 27:54Speaker 1: already done it. Yeah, and you know, I was like,
- 27:58Speaker 1: I don't remember the plays you guys are talking about
- 28:01Speaker 1: from his rookie year, and certainly I didn't see those
- 28:03Speaker 1: plays last year, three or four plays the top. So
- 28:06Speaker 1: even if even if I think he tackled to in
- 28:09Speaker 1: that last game against Miami's rookie year and everybody was like,
- 28:12Speaker 1: did you see that, not realizing two years later the
- 28:14Speaker 1: tour hasn't really been a runner as a pro like
- 28:16Speaker 1: he I mean he hasn't. Yeah, he's I think he's
- 28:20Speaker 1: really concentrated on staying in the pocket. Um, I don't
- 28:23Speaker 1: see those same plays that other people seem to be
- 28:25Speaker 1: talking about in the summer, I know. And then we
- 28:28Speaker 1: were sorry, ahead this one more thing about them about
- 28:32Speaker 1: the I guess the upcoming rookies, maybe we could draft
- 28:34Speaker 1: I'm liking Bio McCollum. I'm I'm thinking he probably will
- 28:38Speaker 1: be gone for the sixth round. Yeah, they might be done.
- 28:42Speaker 1: At least a WEE could add another wide receiver. I mean,
- 28:45Speaker 1: Kyle Phillison feel out there. I think Khalil secure, he
- 28:48Speaker 1: feel out there. He just went like, yeah he went
- 28:54Speaker 1: about four five picks ago. Yeah, sorry about that. Yeah,
- 28:58Speaker 1: I was I was bumped on that. Too. I mean,
- 29:01Speaker 1: pile Philips. I like him as a good flat receiver
- 29:04Speaker 1: or something like somebody who can take Jacoby slot, because
- 29:07Speaker 1: I don't really think Jacobe gonna be in next year.
- 29:09Speaker 1: And I'm really thinking, like I'm thinking a lot of
- 29:11Speaker 1: your draft makes is really because they planning for next year. Yeah. Yeah, no, totally,
- 29:16Speaker 1: especially with like Pierre Strong the running back pick. Paul
- 29:19Speaker 1: talked about, you know, Thornton being kind of an Agilore
- 29:21Speaker 1: replacement or even given Agglore maybe a little bit more
- 29:24Speaker 1: freedom of to move them him around a little bit more, uh,
- 29:27Speaker 1: putting Thornton on the outside, just because I just wonder, like,
- 29:31Speaker 1: I mean, it's great to say, okay, well you need
- 29:33Speaker 1: five receivers, Yeah you do. They can't all be out
- 29:35Speaker 1: there at the same time and you're not going to
- 29:36Speaker 1: get production from five different guys, you know. So it's
- 29:40Speaker 1: easy to sit there and say, well, you know you
- 29:42Speaker 1: have your deep threat with Thornton, Well, is he going
- 29:43Speaker 1: to get on the field, Like, even even even if
- 29:45Speaker 1: he works out, if Born, Agalore and Myers are all here,
- 29:51Speaker 1: he's probably not going to play very much in partner, right, Yeah,
- 29:54Speaker 1: He's probably not gonna play very much even if he
- 29:57Speaker 1: works out, even if he shows promise, you know, that's
- 29:59Speaker 1: what what he could be. As like Bethel Johnson early
- 30:01Speaker 1: in his career, the one trick pony that all of
- 30:04Speaker 1: a sudden, you know. And I'll get Bethel Johnson credit
- 30:06Speaker 1: for this. He was one of those guys. He's who
- 30:08Speaker 1: a bomb to him every other game and he caught it.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, and he made a play with it, you know,
- 30:13Speaker 1: and he returned a kick or two. Oh, he was
- 30:15Speaker 1: a good I mean, he was always a good returner. Yeah,
- 30:17Speaker 1: thanks for shot. I appreciate the call. Let's go to Jack. Jones,
- 30:20Speaker 1: by the way, would not comment on any of his
- 30:23Speaker 1: off field issues. He was asked about them. Okay, uh,
- 30:28Speaker 1: went broke into the restaurant, but he's not biting. I
- 30:33Speaker 1: just had to say. I gave Eric a look. You know.
- 30:35Speaker 1: A couple of minutes ago, as Mike was talking about
- 30:38Speaker 1: his disdain for the lack of movement on the front
- 30:41Speaker 1: seven and wondering about this, you like, openly dismissing some
- 30:45Speaker 1: of the draft picks and patriots, I just wond who
- 30:47Speaker 1: are these people? Who are the two people that I'm
- 30:50Speaker 1: on the show with today. Yeah, Now, last night, after
- 30:52Speaker 1: that call, I realized I hate Bill Belichick, and it
- 30:56Speaker 1: is a role reversal because we also learned last night
- 30:58Speaker 1: that I'm about Bill Belichick ball. Yeah, we're all listen,
- 31:01Speaker 1: it's down cats and dogs living together. We've been around.
- 31:03Speaker 1: How this is what our twenty eighth draft or something
- 31:06Speaker 1: like that, Paul, I think that's twenty three for me
- 31:08Speaker 1: with you, twenty three, you know, twenty three, and you're
- 31:12Speaker 1: intrigued with every guy because every guy has bona fides.
- 31:16Speaker 1: You know, they come out of college with create, you know,
- 31:19Speaker 1: all this all that. You know they're the best in college,
- 31:23Speaker 1: but you know, you see when they get here, it's
- 31:27Speaker 1: a whole different thing. So I love I'm with Paul.
- 31:30Speaker 1: I love the idea of bringing in all this speed,
- 31:33Speaker 1: I really do. But I'm wondering, how are we going
- 31:36Speaker 1: to stop Josh right Well, like, how do you make
- 31:40Speaker 1: an argument right now the defense is better right now
- 31:44Speaker 1: than it was when it in the season ended. No,
- 31:46Speaker 1: I don't think you can make the argument, but I
- 31:48Speaker 1: think you at least have the hope that some of
- 31:51Speaker 1: these guys that we haven't seen much of can do something. Yeah,
- 31:54Speaker 1: I want it right now. Anyway, I went into the draft,
- 31:56Speaker 1: you know, I'm not gonna be a phony. I went
- 31:58Speaker 1: into draft thinking defense, defense, defense, defense. Yea, Now they
- 32:01Speaker 1: have a dress cornerback, so you know we've got a
- 32:04Speaker 1: little well they picked. Yeah, they've got some quarker guy
- 32:07Speaker 1: at the end of the third round and in the
- 32:08Speaker 1: fourth round, you really haven't, right, Mike, Mike, to much point,
- 32:11Speaker 1: your defense isn't better? No, but I know, but considering
- 32:14Speaker 1: where we were, at least we've got a couple more
- 32:16Speaker 1: guys that we can look at at that position. Right. Well,
- 32:19Speaker 1: you know, so maybe this is for defense. Maybe this
- 32:21Speaker 1: is a two year build. Yeah. I was gonna say,
- 32:23Speaker 1: you're hoping that one of those two guys is Asante Samuel, right,
- 32:27Speaker 1: and in two years you got a player run right,
- 32:28Speaker 1: you know, I mean there there this year, you're gonna
- 32:31Speaker 1: be desperate for one of those guys to emerge. And
- 32:33Speaker 1: it's not like I mean, I guess who Jay and
- 32:36Speaker 1: Perkins were. You know, Day two picks its Perkins. I
- 32:39Speaker 1: forget at the top of my head. It was the third,
- 32:41Speaker 1: fourth round. But he wasn't say two day two. You know,
- 32:43Speaker 1: it's not like, oh we had this first round pick.
- 32:46Speaker 1: It's like Cam mcgron was a fourth round pick, like, yeah,
- 32:49Speaker 1: he was fine, well but he was he but he
- 32:52Speaker 1: was a fifth round pick because everyone knew he wasn't
- 32:54Speaker 1: gonna play that year. And even if you want to, oh,
- 32:58Speaker 1: that's what we were told, but I know what we
- 33:00Speaker 1: were told. He was a red shirt, yeah pick, yes, yeah,
- 33:03Speaker 1: but but I don't know where we would have gotten
- 33:04Speaker 1: taken we were we were told he would have gone
- 33:07Speaker 1: a little higher. Well, even if you want to call
- 33:08Speaker 1: him a third round pick, it's just there. There's not Chandler, Jones,
- 33:12Speaker 1: Dante high Tower. I you know, I'm having flashbacks to like, oh,
- 33:15Speaker 1: nine ten, when you didn't you turned it over and
- 33:19Speaker 1: you were searching for front seven guys who could make
- 33:21Speaker 1: an impact. Now out of that you got like a Ninkovich,
- 33:24Speaker 1: You found somebody from the from all that rubble. But
- 33:27Speaker 1: you know, you just look, you got a lot of
- 33:28Speaker 1: guys and and someone will emerge. But that doesn't mean
- 33:32Speaker 1: that it's going to be a better defense. These are
- 33:35Speaker 1: going to be plus players, Like maybe they'll be NFL
- 33:37Speaker 1: players and they'll be the best of what they have.
- 33:40Speaker 1: But you got to convince me that that these guys
- 33:43Speaker 1: have some magic. And well, you know, with playing time,
- 33:45Speaker 1: Ouja and Perkins all of a sudden, It's like, who,
- 33:47Speaker 1: we got something now. I like that they're going to
- 33:49Speaker 1: give him a chance, But I just right now, I'm
- 33:51Speaker 1: I'm a little skeptical that that they have a high ceiling. Yeah, that,
- 33:55Speaker 1: but those are the things we have to look forward
- 33:57Speaker 1: to for the practices coming up in the spring and
- 33:59Speaker 1: in the summer. Or is seeing these guys more than
- 34:02Speaker 1: we did last year, seeing them a little bit more
- 34:03Speaker 1: in the preseason, and you know, obviously we're not going
- 34:06Speaker 1: to know well these points. Is harder to know us
- 34:09Speaker 1: with these practices because I don't hit. But but still,
- 34:12Speaker 1: but just based on the numbers and the new bodies,
- 34:14Speaker 1: like who's out there, Like I mean, at least the
- 34:16Speaker 1: past year we know high Tower and out there as
- 34:20Speaker 1: the guys. But who who's going to be across from
- 34:22Speaker 1: Jude on? You know, when they're just running their their scout,
- 34:25Speaker 1: they know they're binoculars out I'm polishing them. Doesn't have
- 34:29Speaker 1: to be Ronnie Perkins, I think so, But they'll have
- 34:34Speaker 1: to play it out. I I mean, I you're saying
- 34:37Speaker 1: between Perkins, between Perkins and Uch, I mean it's Perk
- 34:42Speaker 1: as sort of a situational kind of let's go forward
- 34:46Speaker 1: and be a pass rusher. I don't know. Maybe that's
- 34:48Speaker 1: all Perkins is too. I thought Perkins had a chance
- 34:51Speaker 1: to be more of a well rounded like fourth three end.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Maybe he's not. Maybe you're right. I don't know. I
- 34:56Speaker 1: don't know. Even we didn't see him. We saw him
- 34:59Speaker 1: second year. Thinks I can't even get in an argument
- 35:02Speaker 1: with him. I love I set the over, love set
- 35:06Speaker 1: the over under a two ten. It's two thirty five.
- 35:08Speaker 1: I haven't even been sniffing in an argument yet. Wow. God,
- 35:11Speaker 1: I mean, god, darn darn argue with yourself. Let's done that.
- 35:15Speaker 1: Let's go to Kevin and Buffalo. What's up, Kevin, Kevin.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Let's go Buffalo, Hey, Kevin, you there, Kevin Kevin ken
- 35:25Speaker 1: He's gone. We'll go to Eddie in Florida. Eddie, he's gone. Wow.
- 35:33Speaker 1: I want to thank Hardy for coming in early for
- 35:35Speaker 1: the Revs game tonight. N Try Always Hawaii, what's up? Always? Hey? Hey? Hey?
- 35:43Speaker 1: Awesome coverage. I love, uh the draft coverage I've been
- 35:46Speaker 1: listening to this day one. I just had a quick question.
- 35:49Speaker 1: I'm gonna take it off the off the air. I
- 35:52Speaker 1: want you guys to uh comment about our development, like
- 35:57Speaker 1: you know, uh, what has there anything changed from the
- 36:02Speaker 1: earlier two thousands, like you know, uh, and then the
- 36:06Speaker 1: post two thousand and ten and now as far as
- 36:09Speaker 1: like you know, like we got the wide siever we
- 36:12Speaker 1: have I've been herring. You know, he's very thin, he's
- 36:15Speaker 1: super fast, but like are we you know, Howard? Can
- 36:18Speaker 1: you guys comment on the development and you know the
- 36:21Speaker 1: coaching you know, thank you? Okay? I mean he says
- 36:24Speaker 1: they Is he talking about the receiver position specifically, No,
- 36:28Speaker 1: the team philosophy, he said two thousand, then two thousand
- 36:33Speaker 1: and ten, and then now like over the twenty years,
- 36:37Speaker 1: has the development how they build a team, has that
- 36:40Speaker 1: philosophy change? Well, I think if it has, I think
- 36:43Speaker 1: in the beginning, Sivers, I didn't know. I think he meant.
- 36:46Speaker 1: I think in the beginning it was a defense first,
- 36:49Speaker 1: defense focused team, run oriented with yeah, run oriented, defense
- 36:53Speaker 1: focused team. In the first decade of the dynasty, if
- 36:58Speaker 1: you will. The second half it was the pendulum swung
- 37:02Speaker 1: to the offense, and it was you know, more offense based,
- 37:05Speaker 1: higher points scoring totals. Brady obviously hitting his stride, getting
- 37:09Speaker 1: into his prime. Now I think there's sort of somewhere
- 37:13Speaker 1: in the middle because they don't really have a dominant offense.
- 37:18Speaker 1: They had, you know, a little bit better offense last
- 37:20Speaker 1: year than they did in twenty twenty. The defense is
- 37:22Speaker 1: like we just talked about, who knows what that's going
- 37:24Speaker 1: to look like, but the last evidence we saw was
- 37:28Speaker 1: not very good. So I think they're still trying to
- 37:31Speaker 1: figure out what kind of team they are right now,
- 37:33Speaker 1: whether they're going to be offensive focused or more defensive focused.
- 37:36Speaker 1: And that sort of reminds me of like what we
- 37:38Speaker 1: were talking about, Like Fred said, he went into the
- 37:41Speaker 1: draft thinking defense, defense, defense, And I just wonder if
- 37:45Speaker 1: they're looking at it as like, no, we got to
- 37:47Speaker 1: find a way to score more points, because could be
- 37:50Speaker 1: because even if we do improve our defense, we're still
- 37:54Speaker 1: limited offensively. Even if we have a good defense, it's
- 37:56Speaker 1: hard to win when you you know that that stat
- 37:58Speaker 1: that we keep talking about, keep talking about, yeah about
- 38:01Speaker 1: the twenty five points, Like you have to find a
- 38:03Speaker 1: way to be able to consistently score more than twenty
- 38:05Speaker 1: five points every week. And you know, and maybe they're
- 38:08Speaker 1: looking at it that way. Yeah, And maybe they're maybe
- 38:10Speaker 1: they're looking at it that look, we're closer to being
- 38:13Speaker 1: where we want to be on offense than we are
- 38:15Speaker 1: on defense. So let's finish the finish the job on
- 38:17Speaker 1: offense that could be could be. Yeah, And I think
- 38:19Speaker 1: it's there's an element of like, these are just the
- 38:23Speaker 1: guys that were available. Well, you've you've spent draft picks
- 38:25Speaker 1: on Uja and Perkins and Jennings, and at some point
- 38:29Speaker 1: you gotta gotta figure it out with them. As much
- 38:31Speaker 1: as you love a perfect situation where you have a
- 38:34Speaker 1: you know, starting three linebackers and well, let's ease one in,
- 38:37Speaker 1: I mean, it feels like we're gonna just kind of
- 38:40Speaker 1: have to push some guys into into the into the mix.
- 38:42Speaker 1: And I have an admission to bake. I think this
- 38:46Speaker 1: whole linebacker thing, I think I'm getting what I wanted.
- 38:49Speaker 1: I think he's finally doing what I wanted them to do.
- 38:52Speaker 1: We'll see. Yeah, the young guys, Yeah, you got a
- 38:55Speaker 1: Fisher cut bait. You know, Mike said it. They used
- 38:58Speaker 1: all of those guys that we talked about, Like, if
- 39:00Speaker 1: there's five or six guys, four or five of them
- 39:02Speaker 1: were draft picks in the first three rounds of the
- 39:04Speaker 1: last three drafts, you know, except for mcgron, who was
- 39:07Speaker 1: a fifth rounder like Oocha Perkins Jennings. These guys were
- 39:12Speaker 1: all draft picks in the first three rounds. They should
- 39:16Speaker 1: be playing by now, and I think I'm gonna get
- 39:20Speaker 1: what I want. I think he's gonna play the young guys,
- 39:23Speaker 1: and then you might not be as good as you
- 39:24Speaker 1: were last year. I agree with Mike. I don't think
- 39:26Speaker 1: the defense right now on paper is as good as
- 39:29Speaker 1: the one that struggled at the end of last year. Ye,
- 39:32Speaker 1: But yeah, the goal is by the end of the year,
- 39:37Speaker 1: you have these young guys, they're acclimated to the system,
- 39:40Speaker 1: they're playing faster because they're a little bit more comfortable mentally,
- 39:43Speaker 1: and now you have some athletes that maybe force a
- 39:46Speaker 1: punt against Buffalo. You know. Yeah, no, I beating your
- 39:51Speaker 1: head into the wall, right. You know, with Jamie Collins
- 39:54Speaker 1: and Dante Hi Tower and Kyle Van Nois, you weren't
- 39:56Speaker 1: getting any better with those guys, and it wasn't good
- 39:59Speaker 1: enough with those guys. So yes, I agree, these guys
- 40:03Speaker 1: are probably gonna make more mistakes than those guys, but
- 40:07Speaker 1: you're well, you're better for it down the right and
- 40:10Speaker 1: at the end of the year, hopefully maybe you say, hey, uh,
- 40:13Speaker 1: you know, mcgron, he can play j Perkins, not so
- 40:17Speaker 1: much like you find a couple, you know what you have,
- 40:19Speaker 1: and then you can next year through free agency with
- 40:22Speaker 1: money and next year's draft where I think they've you know,
- 40:25Speaker 1: acquired like about ten picks already, so they'll be able
- 40:27Speaker 1: to build around and know what you have. I think
- 40:29Speaker 1: maybe it's an element too, Paul. It is just we
- 40:31Speaker 1: don't know who's gonna pop and who's not gonna pop.
- 40:34Speaker 1: We need to figure that out first and then build
- 40:36Speaker 1: around those guys before we start piling guys in behind mcgroan,
- 40:39Speaker 1: behind Raycole McMillan. Who knows those guys might turn on
- 40:42Speaker 1: players and you're drafting somebody now in it it might
- 40:44Speaker 1: be burning a pick. All right, Lots of calls and
- 40:47Speaker 1: emails come in, so let's continue. Uh, Pat and agawam,
- 40:51Speaker 1: what's up? Pat? Pat? Hey? What's up? Guys? Hey? Sorry,
- 40:57Speaker 1: I'm yeah? Um? Is it me? Just a quick question?
- 41:02Speaker 1: Does it me? Or the last two dress? Does it
- 41:04Speaker 1: seem like they're they're taking guys with a little bit
- 41:07Speaker 1: like higher athletic score like all these most of these
- 41:11Speaker 1: days that they took like Cole Strange. I know that
- 41:14Speaker 1: they usually like athletic offensive lineman, but like him, Orton
- 41:19Speaker 1: Marcus Jones, who I love, by the way, um strong
- 41:22Speaker 1: and even got his last year like mcron um. I
- 41:26Speaker 1: don't think Ronnie Perkins. These are all guys that are
- 41:28Speaker 1: I think are a little bit more athletic than they're
- 41:30Speaker 1: used to take it. What do you guys think? I'll
- 41:33Speaker 1: let you guys take it. Wow. I mean from a
- 41:35Speaker 1: speed perspective, that's true. I think this year, this year,
- 41:39Speaker 1: this year. I don't think the guys last year yea
- 41:41Speaker 1: fit the profile that we're talking about. I don't think
- 41:43Speaker 1: the grown is that kind of an athlete. But I
- 41:45Speaker 1: think Barmore was a little bit of a surprise to
- 41:47Speaker 1: me just in terms of he's just good. Yeah, he's
- 41:50Speaker 1: just good. And then I mean, I hope they like this. Yeah.
- 41:53Speaker 1: I think Romandre Stevenson I don't think you look at
- 41:56Speaker 1: him as like an elite athlete. I think he's a
- 41:58Speaker 1: really good running back, yeah, versus a really good football player. Well,
- 42:03Speaker 1: this year it's certain. You know what Mac grow said
- 42:06Speaker 1: last night, if if you want to increase speed, get fast, guys.
- 42:09Speaker 1: You know, I do think that that was a priority.
- 42:12Speaker 1: Ye Yeah, So definitely this alright, that's all I got.
- 42:15Speaker 1: All right, thanks Patty. Um, Bob is in the hot tub.
- 42:19Speaker 1: What's up, Bob? Yeah, don't drop your phone. Guys asked
- 42:28Speaker 1: me the question about the dress code in the hot tub,
- 42:30Speaker 1: so I do some of my best thinking. All right.
- 42:36Speaker 1: So one of the things you know, I was thinking
- 42:38Speaker 1: about with the Belichick, Um, you know, draft power this year,
- 42:43Speaker 1: we're not really taking guys from you know, places where
- 42:46Speaker 1: where we normally do from, um, you know, nobody from Michigan,
- 42:52Speaker 1: thank god, or Alabama. I wonder if that's sort of
- 42:58Speaker 1: an indication that he's you know, it doesn't have as
- 43:01Speaker 1: much say into you know, drafting the body. I don't
- 43:06Speaker 1: know about that. I mean, you know, what's wrong with
- 43:09Speaker 1: taking a guy from Georgia, you know, or Alabama? Yeah,
- 43:13Speaker 1: or you know a little bit off the beaten path. Yeah,
- 43:15Speaker 1: it doesn't seem like there may be I think they
- 43:18Speaker 1: criticized Bill in the past more for not taking those guys. Yeah.
- 43:22Speaker 1: I don't have any problem with Georgia and Alabama and
- 43:25Speaker 1: even Oklahoma because I know Lincoln Riley's one of his
- 43:27Speaker 1: boys too. It was the Rutgers thing that that really,
- 43:30Speaker 1: you know, your friend coaches at a low level Division
- 43:33Speaker 1: one school. Sorry Greg Bdard, but you know, and all
- 43:37Speaker 1: of those guys that we took, we got mccordy, you
- 43:40Speaker 1: know the rest of them, you know do the rest
- 43:43Speaker 1: of them were just average players that you could have
- 43:45Speaker 1: gotten from anywhere, Like you didn't have to tap into
- 43:48Speaker 1: your you know, inside connections to get Logan Ryan and
- 43:52Speaker 1: Deron Harmon. Yeah, yis jumping the sub and give it
- 43:58Speaker 1: a thing. Good for you. Be careful. But I like
- 44:01Speaker 1: the fact that last year, Like I think the reason
- 44:05Speaker 1: they were successful last year is like it wasn't overthought.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Bill just said, you know what you got Alabama guys,
- 44:12Speaker 1: We got Oklahoma guys. I know these guys, I know
- 44:15Speaker 1: the coaches. They're in the line at spots that we need.
- 44:18Speaker 1: Obviously Mac Jones is a little different because he's a quarterback.
- 44:21Speaker 1: But just find the player, find the talent. Christian Bob,
- 44:25Speaker 1: you know, I'd like him. I'm gonna take him. He's
- 44:28Speaker 1: had a program that I that I know, Bob doesn't
- 44:32Speaker 1: really seem like to have that year. Now have that
- 44:34Speaker 1: crush on kind of the opposite that, by the way, right,
- 44:37Speaker 1: it's like, oh, thank god, we can get this guy
- 44:39Speaker 1: that nobody's gonna probably get with three three words in them,
- 44:44Speaker 1: you know, right, yeah, Chattanooga, Yeah, this is this is
- 44:47Speaker 1: definitely different. Yeah, complicated almost this year that the showing
- 44:55Speaker 1: how in depth their their research was, you know, right,
- 44:58Speaker 1: we really you know, turned over every rock this year,
- 45:02Speaker 1: hit the bricks. And you wonder, like, you know, it's
- 45:07Speaker 1: become almost cliche, but you wonder, like now with the
- 45:10Speaker 1: COVID kind of being lifted up a little bit more
- 45:13Speaker 1: and being able to be in person at games more,
- 45:16Speaker 1: you wonder if that allows them to reach a little
- 45:19Speaker 1: deeper into schools and not have to just fall back
- 45:22Speaker 1: on Alabama. And you know, yeah, you wonder. Leonel Matt
- 45:25Speaker 1: Growl last night gave a shout out to to the
- 45:28Speaker 1: Texas Scout. Yeah. Yeah, I forgot a moment at the moment.
- 45:31Speaker 1: But he seems very cognizant of spreading the credit to
- 45:35Speaker 1: a lot of the other guys. I mean, just in
- 45:38Speaker 1: the limited times we've heard of heard from him in
- 45:39Speaker 1: the last couple of weeks, he always seems to drop
- 45:41Speaker 1: a lot of names Scouts or or you know, people
- 45:43Speaker 1: who are are they're helping him, So uh yeah, I
- 45:47Speaker 1: mean it's it's all seem a little bit a little
- 45:49Speaker 1: bit different. In other ways, it seems very similar that
- 45:51Speaker 1: they've got their board, that's their way, and they're gonna
- 45:55Speaker 1: take the guys that they like, and then when they like,
- 45:57Speaker 1: care what Pro Football Focus has in their mock draft,
- 46:00Speaker 1: as their rankings or any of that stuff. So there's
- 46:05Speaker 1: definitely a lot of reinforcement needs that have been met.
- 46:09Speaker 1: I just am gonna question what the ceiling is for
- 46:12Speaker 1: all of this because the players that they quote unquote
- 46:15Speaker 1: reached on, which is all in you know, perspective, there's
- 46:20Speaker 1: a reason why other people didn't think that they were
- 46:22Speaker 1: atop the board. So maybe the Patriots are right. Maybe
- 46:25Speaker 1: they're gonna get out there and they're gonna drive in
- 46:27Speaker 1: the Patriot system and they're gonna rise up and the
- 46:29Speaker 1: ceiling is high. But we got to see it on
- 46:33Speaker 1: the field, and we've got to see guys on defense
- 46:35Speaker 1: emerge on the field, Like these things have to happen
- 46:37Speaker 1: over the course of the summer before we get into
- 46:40Speaker 1: into the games. And you know, right now, I think
- 46:42Speaker 1: it's a big, big question about what does the defense
- 46:45Speaker 1: of who emerges. I mean, if you had to ask
- 46:47Speaker 1: me who the starting defense look like, I couldn't tell
- 46:50Speaker 1: you I couldn't tell you what what who's starting at
- 46:53Speaker 1: cornerback or who's starting an outside linebacker or it's going
- 46:56Speaker 1: to be a very very interesting summer. Yeah, and and
- 46:59Speaker 1: joint practices will be you know, that'll give us some clue. Now,
- 47:03Speaker 1: that's a great point, fred I think that because that
- 47:05Speaker 1: gives you a sense of how they stack up. Like
- 47:08Speaker 1: we can sit and watch the Patriots practicing the Patriots,
- 47:10Speaker 1: and right, it looks like it does. But until you
- 47:12Speaker 1: get them against up with five sacks every day, right right,
- 47:15Speaker 1: when when the offensive line right, well that's that's a
- 47:18Speaker 1: whole another Victually when they play against another team, you
- 47:20Speaker 1: get a sense of of of how they kind of
- 47:23Speaker 1: stack up. And even then it's it's it's it's almost
- 47:25Speaker 1: on a microscopic level because you're like, well, I watch
- 47:27Speaker 1: one on ones, I watch a red zone drills and
- 47:30Speaker 1: it's still but it's close, but it's closer. And I
- 47:33Speaker 1: still think you're going to go into this season, you know,
- 47:35Speaker 1: not not knowing for sure. And I mean I like,
- 47:37Speaker 1: I like it. I mean I think when you add
- 47:39Speaker 1: Thornton and Parker, that makes sense, Like all right, that
- 47:44Speaker 1: you're you've heard kind of the people light and you know,
- 47:47Speaker 1: you don't hear people lighting the torches, but the people
- 47:49Speaker 1: who are been like banging the table about, you know,
- 47:51Speaker 1: getting faster, having outside threats, having guys that can stretch
- 47:54Speaker 1: the field and get separation, that that buzzword. Um. You know, Parker,
- 47:58Speaker 1: he's a contested catch guy, but he does it at
- 48:00Speaker 1: an NFL level. He's not a college contested catch guy.
- 48:03Speaker 1: So I think they have added some elements to their offense.
- 48:06Speaker 1: And but who's calling the plays. I ain't gotten to
- 48:10Speaker 1: that yet. It's another interesting element though, because I mean
- 48:15Speaker 1: there's still four picks to go, and if you're going
- 48:17Speaker 1: to get a slot receiver, this is where you get it.
- 48:19Speaker 1: I mean you a lot of those guys are late
- 48:22Speaker 1: round picks. Um. But I do find that interesting because
- 48:25Speaker 1: everybody's like they need a true slot receiver. And I
- 48:28Speaker 1: get really mad at that because they have Jacoby Myers
- 48:30Speaker 1: who caught eighty five passes, and you know, because he's
- 48:33Speaker 1: not you know, a little water bug out there, you know,
- 48:36Speaker 1: it looks a little different. What's the difference, as long
- 48:38Speaker 1: as he's catching passes on third down that are moving
- 48:40Speaker 1: the chains, you know. So yeah, I think that no
- 48:43Speaker 1: receiver for the Patriots last year, got open as consistently
- 48:46Speaker 1: as Jacobe Myers did, made it tough catches and big.
- 48:51Speaker 1: You know, and I'm not telling you that he's Welker.
- 48:53Speaker 1: I'm not telling you that he's Edelman or Troy Brown.
- 48:55Speaker 1: He wasn't. But he gave you that element. And everybody
- 48:59Speaker 1: is just they need a true slot receiver. Oh so
- 49:02Speaker 1: the style that you think that they need. Yeah, and
- 49:05Speaker 1: then what do they do? They did what Mike just said.
- 49:07Speaker 1: They went out and traded for Javante Parker, and they
- 49:10Speaker 1: drafted a guy who's going to play on the outside.
- 49:13Speaker 1: And and you know, the resuspensibly burn people down. And
- 49:16Speaker 1: the reason it doesn't look the same is they're not
- 49:18Speaker 1: happening in big games because there were really no big
- 49:21Speaker 1: games and when they got to a big game. But again,
- 49:23Speaker 1: and I'm not trying to pretend that he's at that level.
- 49:26Speaker 1: He's not. He's he's he's a much different player. And
- 49:28Speaker 1: I do think this is probably his last year. I
- 49:31Speaker 1: think he'll be an unrestricted free agent. He'll have decent
- 49:33Speaker 1: numbers that will be attractive on the open market, and
- 49:36Speaker 1: I think that they'll look at him as well. They
- 49:39Speaker 1: got the best out of him in the three years
- 49:41Speaker 1: that he was here. Yeah, yeah, and give us they
- 49:43Speaker 1: might not have come in big games for it, but
- 49:45Speaker 1: I think he did have some big play moments. You know,
- 49:48Speaker 1: when they needed a third down or they needed a
- 49:50Speaker 1: lot of yardage, they'd go to him and more from
- 49:52Speaker 1: the night he makes the play. Yeah, and he doesn't
- 49:54Speaker 1: drop passes. You know, he was very reliable. He didn't
- 49:56Speaker 1: have very many drops at all. Uh, let's go to
- 50:00Speaker 1: Jason and Georgia. Hey, Jason, Hey, guys, hey man, his
- 50:06Speaker 1: draft had me through the first round pick had mean yelling.
- 50:12Speaker 1: It'll like my brother just going back and forth yelling.
- 50:15Speaker 1: So I'm just really trying my best to calm down
- 50:19Speaker 1: and understand these picks that they've taken. And the best
- 50:23Speaker 1: thing I can come up with is that if the
- 50:26Speaker 1: first two picks work and maybe one of these other
- 50:30Speaker 1: picks that we've done come in, then that's the best
- 50:34Speaker 1: I can get for it, Okay, you know, because we
- 50:38Speaker 1: had I'll take the yeah, like we were pleased as
- 50:42Speaker 1: play last year for three. Yeah, it's a good hit
- 50:45Speaker 1: with Barmore and it was a good hit with thro Mandre.
- 50:48Speaker 1: And honestly, I think you can only get like two
- 50:51Speaker 1: or three good hits out of the draft on any
- 50:53Speaker 1: given year. That's right. Well, you're allowed to get as
- 50:56Speaker 1: many year. Yeah, but I'll take three. Yeah. I think
- 50:59Speaker 1: that's a good draft. Yeah. That sure, And that was
- 51:01Speaker 1: the that was the bottom line when we came into this.
- 51:03Speaker 1: It was like, what do they need? Three starters? Give
- 51:05Speaker 1: me three more starters, not even specific to position, three
- 51:08Speaker 1: starters do sure? Kyle Phillips streams did I know? But hey,
- 51:12Speaker 1: if he's got to go somewhere, Crabes, that's my it's
- 51:14Speaker 1: my my b team Collins in San Francisco. Hey, Colin,
- 51:19Speaker 1: it's just in. Mike Lutsvi, Tennessee over the It's up, Colin, Colin, Colin, Hello, yes, hey,
- 51:27Speaker 1: all right? What um I'm calling in? Uh talking about
- 51:32Speaker 1: the linebackers. I'm not sure what we're doing. Uh. Boom
- 51:36Speaker 1: Towers looking like bust Tower. He looks like he's done
- 51:41Speaker 1: years Tower. He looks like he's forty five years old.
- 51:46Speaker 1: UM ran around then to Kobe d Involved into like
- 51:49Speaker 1: the late third, or maybe it's the early third, but
- 51:52Speaker 1: either way, he falls into the third when he's like
- 51:54Speaker 1: the best linebacker in the country, wins that award. I
- 51:57Speaker 1: don't know what we're doing that pick and you know
- 52:00Speaker 1: not picking him there the rest of the league didn't
- 52:02Speaker 1: pick him either, Right, Yeah, he's got I mean there
- 52:05Speaker 1: are I think the thinks injuries, Yeah, injuries, and then
- 52:11Speaker 1: I think they're you know, even without the injuries, there's
- 52:13Speaker 1: a question about his size. I mean, I like the player,
- 52:15Speaker 1: I would have been lovely smart um, but I think
- 52:19Speaker 1: there was always some kind of like I think people said,
- 52:21Speaker 1: you know, this one thing to be undersized. But when
- 52:23Speaker 1: you're undersized and you got a bunch of injuries, right,
- 52:26Speaker 1: that's the double whammy. You know, you need a team
- 52:29Speaker 1: that can kind of just they've had they've been undersized
- 52:32Speaker 1: linebackers in the NFL before who were like, you know,
- 52:35Speaker 1: even going back to Zach Zach Thomas was durable, right,
- 52:38Speaker 1: but he was out there all the time. Even a
- 52:40Speaker 1: Landon Roberts, Yeah, who Sam Mills, Yeah, Sam Mills. Like
- 52:44Speaker 1: those these guys were shorter stock, your fire hydrant type linebacker, right,
- 52:48Speaker 1: and but they were out there. Yeah, you know, they
- 52:50Speaker 1: didn't have the injury concerns all the time. Right. I
- 52:52Speaker 1: Mean that's the first thing you look at is, oh,
- 52:55Speaker 1: he's small, can he hold up? Yeah, this guy's got
- 52:57Speaker 1: a lot of injuries. I guess is if he wasn't
- 53:00Speaker 1: injured or didn't have the litany of yeah injuries, he'd
- 53:02Speaker 1: probably been in the first round. I think so too. Yeah.
- 53:06Speaker 1: I just think the newer generation of linebackers, maybe not
- 53:10Speaker 1: necessarily a hunder size, but are just so much faster
- 53:14Speaker 1: than the ones we have on our roster. Like if
- 53:16Speaker 1: you look at a guy like Devin Whiter, Dion Jones,
- 53:19Speaker 1: like people coming out of the draft last five years
- 53:22Speaker 1: are just so much faster, Like High Tower looked glacially slow. Hey,
- 53:26Speaker 1: did my guy Malcolm Rodriguez get go yet? Not yet? Okay? Yeah, Rod, No,
- 53:31Speaker 1: you're right. And but I mean I think that there's
- 53:32Speaker 1: some there's some nuance to the conversation and just how
- 53:36Speaker 1: the Patriots manage their roles. And I think that they
- 53:39Speaker 1: instead of drafting those linebackers, I think that they've focused
- 53:43Speaker 1: more on safeties and strong safeties and those guys who
- 53:46Speaker 1: can play in the box and can run, maybe even
- 53:48Speaker 1: better than some of those linebackers. But I think as
- 53:51Speaker 1: we've seen you go with safeties, you might get run on,
- 53:54Speaker 1: and they've had some problems against the run. You know,
- 53:56Speaker 1: you look at the off the ball linebackers. I've listened
- 53:59Speaker 1: them off a bunch of times in the last three days.
- 54:00Speaker 1: But you know, there's a kind of versatility variety of
- 54:04Speaker 1: guys McMillan, mack Wilson, mcgroan, Bentley Longie to vay In
- 54:09Speaker 1: hall Um, and I know that they like some of
- 54:11Speaker 1: those guys, probably a little bit more than them. We're
- 54:14Speaker 1: even you know that we then we talk about. But
- 54:17Speaker 1: that's why I struggled with the linebacker position coming into
- 54:19Speaker 1: the draft, because you've got a bunch of guys there,
- 54:21Speaker 1: not a lot proven, but you've got guys and do
- 54:23Speaker 1: you need to log jam it? Do you really not
- 54:25Speaker 1: believe in any of these guys that you have on
- 54:26Speaker 1: your roster for then why are they here? So that's
- 54:30Speaker 1: I mean, I hear your general point. I just stew
- 54:32Speaker 1: more towards the edge. And you know who's gonna win
- 54:35Speaker 1: up front? When you know Tennessee's trying to run an
- 54:37Speaker 1: off tackle and you know, is Ronnie Perkins getting up
- 54:40Speaker 1: there and sent She's going to do what you're gonna do?
- 54:42Speaker 1: When Derrick Henry running like you know that that that
- 54:45Speaker 1: that's the concern is it's you know, even at their best,
- 54:48Speaker 1: I'm not one hundred percent sure that those guys were
- 54:49Speaker 1: ever the stout edge player Jeffson, Texas calling back, what's up, Jeff, Hey, guys,
- 54:55Speaker 1: enjoy the show? Sure? Thanks? Hey? So um yeah, duce
- 55:01Speaker 1: about the you know, like the Belichick haters, Man, I
- 55:04Speaker 1: heard that yesterday and I was unbelievable. But I just
- 55:08Speaker 1: want to stay as far as you know, looking at
- 55:11Speaker 1: you know, Belichick in the new era with Mac, I
- 55:13Speaker 1: mean I think you know the end of this how
- 55:16Speaker 1: this year plays out is going to be really crucial.
- 55:19Speaker 1: You know how people look at Belichick, uh, whether you
- 55:22Speaker 1: like him or not. And I think, uh, you know
- 55:25Speaker 1: we're gonna see I mean Mac, you know we're gonna
- 55:28Speaker 1: see Mac hopefully take a jump this year, and and
- 55:31Speaker 1: u Aghalore and some other players. I mean, the defense
- 55:34Speaker 1: is still I know it's a big question, but I think, um,
- 55:37Speaker 1: you know, when we get through all the workouts and
- 55:40Speaker 1: we finally you know, get the into the games, Um,
- 55:43Speaker 1: I think you know Belichick will put a good the
- 55:46Speaker 1: best he can. But I do believe that you know,
- 55:50Speaker 1: next year will be I think will be a really
- 55:52Speaker 1: big jump next year when you know we have all
- 55:54Speaker 1: that free agency money and look for uh, Broby Belichick
- 55:58Speaker 1: to make a big splash then yeah, um that really
- 56:02Speaker 1: helped the team out. But you know, I mean, I
- 56:05Speaker 1: know it's too early. We can't like pencil when wins
- 56:07Speaker 1: and losses. But what would you guys think would have
- 56:09Speaker 1: to be Like, you know, you look at just if
- 56:12Speaker 1: everything stayed pretty much the same, maybe you know, what
- 56:17Speaker 1: will be expectations. Well, that's a good question. What are
- 56:20Speaker 1: the expectations because they didn't finish the season well last year,
- 56:25Speaker 1: and on paper, the other teams in the AFC that
- 56:30Speaker 1: aren't going to be competing for playoff spots seem to
- 56:33Speaker 1: have gotten better. Yeah, you know, especially on the offensive
- 56:36Speaker 1: side of that. So so that that has made a
- 56:39Speaker 1: lot of people nervous. Yeah, the expect my expectation is
- 56:42Speaker 1: the schedule is going to be tougher because more teams
- 56:44Speaker 1: look like they've improved and you not didn't necessarily keep
- 56:50Speaker 1: keep up with that. We'll see, I mean, there's a
- 56:53Speaker 1: lot of you know, there's a lot of practices to
- 56:55Speaker 1: go between now and September whatever. What we're talking about.
- 56:59Speaker 1: On the last twenty years, you know, the Patriots would
- 57:02Speaker 1: play a decent team or a good team into and
- 57:05Speaker 1: they beat them soundly Patriots gave the blueprint for that team.
- 57:10Speaker 1: Did the blueprint of the Patriots come out last year
- 57:12Speaker 1: at the end of the year. That's kind of been
- 57:13Speaker 1: an I was kind of a narrative. I don't. I
- 57:16Speaker 1: don't think so just and I mean, I almost mean
- 57:18Speaker 1: it in a worse way because I just think that
- 57:20Speaker 1: they they didn't play well, Like I didn't even think
- 57:23Speaker 1: they played up to the talent that they did have.
- 57:25Speaker 1: Like it just didn't feel like things were right. Find out,
- 57:28Speaker 1: I mean, I get what you're saying. It will find out.
- 57:31Speaker 1: Was it because of the other teams were better or
- 57:33Speaker 1: was it because the Patriots didn't play as well? Stretch right,
- 57:35Speaker 1: and we'll find out. Yeah, I think I think the
- 57:38Speaker 1: schedule got significantly harder down the stretch. Yeah. Yeah, But
- 57:41Speaker 1: I mean, I just I just don't think that they
- 57:44Speaker 1: had it. You know, sometimes teams come together and they
- 57:47Speaker 1: kind of are greater than the some of their parts.
- 57:50Speaker 1: And I felt like last year it wasn't even just
- 57:52Speaker 1: that they didn't play that well, they just didn't have
- 57:55Speaker 1: any It's hard to believe that I thought they overachieved
- 57:57Speaker 1: a little bit less. It's hard to believe a Bill
- 57:59Speaker 1: Belichick coach team could go two games without giving up
- 58:03Speaker 1: a you know, forcing a punt, but it happened. He
- 58:05Speaker 1: had no answers, but it happened. Yeah, And that's why
- 58:09Speaker 1: I just don't think I mean the answer to the
- 58:11Speaker 1: Jeff's question, Like everybody all gave their caveats, and I
- 58:15Speaker 1: would lead with my disclaimer. There's a million things that
- 58:18Speaker 1: are going to happen between now in September. But right
- 58:21Speaker 1: now I see them as like a seven win team, yeah,
- 58:24Speaker 1: you know, d maybe eight if if you know, Bill
- 58:28Speaker 1: really really coaches it up. Now, if all of those
- 58:32Speaker 1: teams on paper that look to have improved, like let me,
- 58:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna use a couple because I think we can
- 58:38Speaker 1: all assume that Buffalo will be good, Kansas City will
- 58:40Speaker 1: be good. Yeah, you know, But let's say two teams
- 58:44Speaker 1: in particular that I think we're middling teams last year
- 58:47Speaker 1: that looked to have significantly improved with the acquisitions of quarterbacks,
- 58:51Speaker 1: Denver and Cleveland. If they both work, the Patriots might
- 58:57Speaker 1: be hard pressed to win seven or eight games like
- 59:00Speaker 1: those kinds of teams if they've made a significant jump
- 59:05Speaker 1: in their quarterbacks are really good, like if Russell Wilson
- 59:07Speaker 1: is Russell Wilson with Denver into John Watson into Shaun
- 59:10Speaker 1: Watson in Cleveland, and you couldn't be Cleveland. You couldn't
- 59:14Speaker 1: beat to Shaun Watson when he was quarterbacking a four
- 59:16Speaker 1: win team. Yeah, you know again, I go back to
- 59:19Speaker 1: the angriest I've seen Mike in the three years that
- 59:21Speaker 1: we've worked together, when they absolutely got steamrolled by one
- 59:27Speaker 1: by one man. They got steamrolled by one guy, a
- 59:31Speaker 1: four win team and he beat him by himself. Cleveland's
- 59:35Speaker 1: not that bad. And if he's that guy now he's
- 59:39Speaker 1: been he's been away a whole year. I'm not ready
- 59:40Speaker 1: to just pencil Cleveland. And as a contender, he's been
- 59:43Speaker 1: away for a whole year. Who even knows if he's
- 59:45Speaker 1: going to get suspended and Miami has a new head coach,
- 59:48Speaker 1: you don't know. You know, there are a lot of
- 59:50Speaker 1: just because that's why if they all work out, right,
- 59:53Speaker 1: if Denver is better, if Cleveland's better, if Miami's better,
- 59:57Speaker 1: you know, if all of those teams, all of those
- 59:59Speaker 1: teams San Diego, La Chargers charges, if all of those
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: teams have worked out, then yeah, Patriots, all right, let's
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: take a break. We have to go to audio. The

- 1:05:08Speaker 1: the twenty twenty two Patriots Unfiltered Draft Show. Welcome to
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: the NFL Draft. All right back here and Patriots Unfiltered
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: one more hour ago audio only. Mike Dousseau, Eric Skellavino,
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: Paul Parolo, myself, Matt Morrel in the booth um and
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: we're in the fifth round. Patriots don't have a pick.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Doesn't look like they will be moving up into the
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: fifth round either. We still got time, a little time. Yeah,
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: but they have three picks in the six and one
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: in the seventh. The problem with my trade up is
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: that if you didn't, if you didn't deem it necessary
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: to pick a guy at twenty one. Yeah, why are
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: we moving up in the fifth round? Right right? Well,
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: maybe maybe they could still make a trade for picks
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: in next year's draft, possibly take some of those six
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: and maybe move them to next year. Well, I did
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: see I think I mentioned I mean, I think with
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: comp picks um that they that they might have about
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: ten picks, so that's you know, they got some good, good,
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: good quality of for next year. Yeah, like they lost
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: the third round for DeVante Parker, but they got a
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: third back from Carolina in that trade on when was
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: it Thursday or yesterday? Yesterday? Uh? Yeah, keep forgetting what
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: day it is. Yes, they gave they got a fourth
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: rounder right six from Caroline. They traded away a fifth
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: as part of the Seawan Wade deal a couple of
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: years ago whatever it was. So maybe maybe they can
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: third for j C. Probably and and maybe I don't know,
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: a fourth fifth something like that for teddy K. But yeah,
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: they got some man on next year. That's good. Back
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: to the phones, we go eight five five pats five hundred.
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: It's the Ace ticket hut Line Eddie's in Florida. Hey Eddie.
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: Oh that's the second time now, thanks Hardy. One more
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: call than We got a lot of emails. They want
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: to get to Manny's in Manchester, New Hampshire. What's up
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: Mannie manny Chester? Hey? H one point item on the map.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: I was definitely from the ohhh yeah, okay, Eric, you
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: know where? Yes, do you technically have to call from
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: the Azores to get a pin. Yeah, technically you do.
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: I know what the rules are. Yeah, you have to
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: be actually there, so fly over there and call us back.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: It's forgotten. Kind of like Paul comments. I was listening
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: to the Yes Space podcast at one point time, Paul
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: called a mediocre coach. Oh no, no, no, no, no,
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: I did not coach. Stop it. Yes, you stop it.
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: You're embarrassing yourself. I just listened to it today. But anyway,
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: I did not call Bill a mediocre coach. I'm sorry.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: That's it was taken out of context. That's like Fred
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: said that he doesn't think that mac Jones is very good.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: That's not what he meant. He was. It was something
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: about something different. I've never thought of Bill as a
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: mediocre coach, and I've never said that he's a mediocre coach. Sorry,
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: I am. I might have said. I might have said
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: something like this, if you want to listen. He's had
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: eight plus years without Tom Brady as his as his quarterback,
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: and in those years he's been a mediocre coach. That's
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: what you said. That's what I said. I remember that.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: Oh that's what I was refering to. Its call a
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: mediocre coach. Then without Brady, very very important qualifier there, Manny, Well,
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: I think then everybody's a mediocre coach because Tom Brady. Then, anyway,
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: any reads Indy reads not a mediocre coach, a good
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: point caller, and he reads an excellent coach, whether he
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: has Donovan McNabb, stiff or Alex Smith, you think and
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: reads a mediocre No, I'm just saying he's not a
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: mediocre coach. And in Bill Belichick is the best coach
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: of all time, Andy Reid's not Bill Belichick. Belichick's a
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: better coach. But if they both didn't have a quarterback,
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: I'd like to see who's better. But with a quarterback,
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: Belichick was better with Brady that Indy Reid has been
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: with Mahomes. Belichick better than read anything else. You want
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: to try to back me into a corner with coach.
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: So it was Tony dungye a media coach, even though
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: he had a I don't think he was that Tony Dungy.
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: Yeah he was. He was pretty much the definition of mediocre. Yeah,
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: So anybody wouldn't have Tom Brady coach anywhere. No, I
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: don't think Andy reads a mediocre coach. Listen, I'm gonna
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: need you to keep up. Yeah, if you want to
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: make fun of me, I'm here for that. But just
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: but listen. I don't mind getting made fun of, But listen,
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: he's trying to make his own pointing. Yeah, not anybody
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: without Tom Brady is mediocre. John Harbaugh is not a
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: mediocre coach. Sean McVay is not a mediocre coach. Like
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: I don't understand, Like, you don't have to have Tom
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: Brady to be a really good coach. Everybody without Tom
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: Brady isn't automatically then mediocre. But you said it without
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: Tom brady's the mediocre coach. He has been, yes, but
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: he hasn't been without Tom Brady, So it's irrelevant. He's
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: a great coach for thirty years. He's been great because
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: twenty three of them he was one of the best
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: because he's had Tom. Yes, a great coach. And I
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: think Fred would agree with me. Would just anybody be
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: as good as the Patriots were with another coach with
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: Tom Brady? No, no, no, I agree. So he's not
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: mediocre overall the entire package, He's not mediocre. It's not
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: that hard. Yeah, you're looking for sorry, man, I'm looking
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: for a document that's not there. It's not it's a
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: good try. I A for effort, A for effort, you know,
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: thanks for the call A for effort that Paul is
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: itching a little bit. I think was good job, man.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: But there's a couple there's a couple of things that
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: get under my skin. Listen, I say a lot of things. Yeah,
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: and I understand that on this show in particular, I
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: get under people's skin sometimes because I don't just fall
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: for conventional wisdom. I don't just fall in line with
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: the you know, all of the narrative is sometimes I'm right,
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: sometimes I'm wrong. Okay, Like I think trading away Dion
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: Branch cost him a Super Bowl in two thousand and six.
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: I'll say that. Some people won't, Okay, I don't mind that.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: But I don't like when people make things up. I
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: don't like when people say that I don't think Belichick's
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: a great coach. I've once got a viscerated for calling
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: him a very very good drafter, and Fred will be
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: here to back me up on that. Yea. So I
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: don't like viscerated for years for calling him a very
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: very good drafter. Now, in my defense, that was before
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: like the last four or five years, it's kind of
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: gone downhill, right. You need in another varia, I say it. Yeah,
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: I say enough things that are kind of negative, quote
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: unquote that people don't like that. I say, don't put
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: words in my mouth offense that I never thought or said.
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: There's plenty to pick from. You don't have to make
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: them correct. Yeah. Uh. David and Bethlehem about the quarterback selection,
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: why he says, just to put a burr under Max saddle?
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: Why not take a flyer on someone that might actually
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: make the roster? Oh? No, are we sorry? Is that?
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: What I'm gonna be waiting into later today is is
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: people are upset about that the Jeffer a quarterback. That
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: is that what's going on. They're gonna be upset for Mac.
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: I thought a quarterback was a legitimate option in this draft.
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: Later later rounds like today, I had Bill, he's up,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: it's all my list. No, I gotta be honest with you.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: I didn't. But I don't have any problem with it.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: For the reason Mike says, it's good business. It's good
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: for Mac. It's good for Mac to have another guy
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: that now Max going to probably teach him a little
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: bit and that'll that'll help Mac process it and pass
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: it along. It's just you know, Stidham leaves next year.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: Stidham might leave this year. I mean he fits the
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: mold of what Mac does. I think he's complimentary to Mac.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: But you need you need a few quarterbacks on the roster.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: I again, good business, goodness. Sam from Maryland writes in
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: My Takeaways from the Draft shows so far, Paul has
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: to explain what nobody means every fifteen minutes. Correct. Frank
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: can't seem to get the concept. Has a crush on
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: Bill of the Coach, but to his credit, unlike most
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: criticizes Bill the GM, Fred hates some New England picks.
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: Tamara had trouble with the Cowboys draft class. How this
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: guy this guy has and Eric has Eric been there?
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: It took a turn, Yeah, that's it. Took a turn
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: at the end. But you know that was felt like
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: an obligatory week week effort, weak effort as usual. But
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: but that's what that's what we do. Now. I'm glad.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: I'm glad somebody's listening because I and I agree with you, Apolo,
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: just because you know that call last night. What got
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: me fired up was just that I feel like We
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: talk on the radio for many hours every week, and
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: when somebody starts feeding back what you don't say, it's
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: frustrating because you know, I try to be balanced. I'm not.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: I don't want to be an idiot who just blindly
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: warships like and I don't think that that that's how
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: it's like. And it's it's proof that people don't always
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: And I'm not saying everybody is like this again everybody. Yeah,
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: not not literal doesn't mean literal. Um. When people just
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: don't listen. When someone calls you a Belichick bobo and
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: someone else claims that you think Belichick is a mediocre coach,
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: that's proof that you had two different people that that
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: you think two entirely different ways about the same person.
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: Clearly they don't listen to what you say. Well it's
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: selective hearing. But well yeah, yeah, and I think too.
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: You put somebody into a box and then you hear
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: what you want to hear. I think that's true in
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: many avenues of our society. All Right, well, I'm not
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: going to listen to anything else. I've already decided I
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: don't like you, so I'm going to turn your words
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: against right, I'm not going to sit and listen to it,
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: to what you had to say. So Jared and Virginia
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: have been Night Collins or High Tower signed someplace else.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: If not, my guess is that Bill will resign one
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: or more of them, right, I think that's the plan,
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: Not to play the new guys we have never seen.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: I hope. I'd rather play the new guys we've never seen,
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: at least I have hope. I mean, I would only
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: imagine it could be High Tower, although three that I
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: could not imagine coming back at a discount. Yea. And
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: I mean you ditch van Noy, you had him here,
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: So I don't I think that's done right. Yeah. I'll
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: never say never, because you're always surprised by by certain things.
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: But I I think that would be stunning if van
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: Noy came back. It would have to be like, you know,
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: a rash of injuries, desperate knee High Tower. It's High
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: Tower a free agent right now? Yah? Yeah, he's still deciding.
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: He's still deciding. Yeah, you know, um it is it
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: is interesting that bat that none of them have been
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: you know, sneaky. You haven't even heard of interest from
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: other teams for them? No, yeah, well he doesn't know
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: if he wants to play or not play. And you
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: know what happens when you're thinking about either it's almost
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: every sea or he's not going to play um or
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: or maybe something else. Right, according to Twitter, so we've
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: narrowed it down. Man, that's good. Connor and Boston shot
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: had that on Twitter. Bike shout out to Duce being
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: universally panned on the Raft Show his first year, to
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: having callers double dip on the same night just to
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: argue with him. It's possible that Mike is the most
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: improved member of the Patriots organization since he came on board. Well,
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: I mean, he was a colossal bust in his first raft.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: He turned himself into a serviceable starter. But I mean,
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: come on, that was a remote show. We were all
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: at home, right, yeah, yes, yes, that's right. We definitely
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: weren't all secretly in the same room. So yeah, I'm
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: just at home with my kids, trying trying to keep
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: up with the Draft Show. There's a lot on your mind.
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: COVID eight plus shows from Fred this weekend too, from
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: telling callers that the phone suck and responding to Jack
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: Jones breaking into a restaurant with well, he was hungry.
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: That was a little felker like though the guy with
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: the phone Chris Scott's your own sucks. I mean, it
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: was miked us all the time. The theme of the
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: draft so far from me is reach. Individually. I don't
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: have a huge problem with any of the picks, but
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: none of them seem like top sixty four picks that
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: can be a real difference maker. Would have liked a
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: linebacker or slash edge guy on Day one or two.
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: But oh well, yeah, yeah, me too. I you know,
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: Josh Pascal from Kentucky or just a line player that
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: they don't really have. And I mean it's it's Davis
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: his guy. You know you got, you got cow I
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: mean I I and this is gonna be get me
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: laughed at um. But you know, Coward and Anderson coming
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: back gives you maybe a little bit of a couple
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: of different options. Not that I was, you know, ever
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: really blown away with Coward or what we saw from
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: Anderson last year. I think he kind of felt well
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: on the bubble last year. Um. So it's just you know,
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: it's kind of the same group. You know, it's the
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: same group. There's not really I mean, is is barm
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: we're gonna make a big jump. And you know, and
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: again how much attention or barn Moore and Jude On
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: getting Because if I'm an offensive lineman, you know, an
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: offensive coordinator, I'm gonna say, find jood On fine bar
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: More and let him. Let him try to shut us
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: down with the rest of those guys al from Italy.
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: I don't have anything in particular to say about the picks,
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: but I hope the Patriots pick up someone who Mike
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: really hates so we can go crazy like Milton in
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: Office Space. My hoodie did base. I'm can you take
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: my ax? I do kind of I kind of dig
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: angry slash melancholy deuce. I'm digging like the last half
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: of yesterday into today. It's no I like upbeat Douce.
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: You know, I like I like, you know, I wonder
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: why build database so happy? That's what I want? Do you? Yeah? Like,
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: I know I know how little we make. What are
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: you so happy about it? You know that's what I fake?
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: More to life and money. Paul Um. Well, I look,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: I'm consistent. I hope, I hope I'm consistent, and that's
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: what I try to be. And I love defense. I
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: love line backers. I love that side of the ball,
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: and it's just that for me is what I enjoyed
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: that perfect, perfectly done, and look, they've done nothing, They've
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: done nothing there. They brought some guys back, and they've
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: got a lot of uncertainty and that that's frustrating to me.
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: And it's even worse when you come off of how
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: the season ended with the defensive performances. It is hard
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: to sit there and wrap your mind around what you
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: saw at the end of the year. And that's what
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: I wrote last night. I kind of recapped the way
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: the season ended and then to sit there and not
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: really addressed defense. I don't really have a huge problem
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: with it because of what I said about an hour
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: ago about maybe they're just looking at it as like
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: we got to try to score with these teams. This
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: is where it's going. But it is interesting and I
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: tie it into, you know, my point about that defense
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: with the veterans, and it just lacked cohesion and you know,
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: they didn't elevate each other and it didn't kind of
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: all come together. And so maybe it's almost a sense
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: of we need to reset the person sality of the
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: defense and that even if it seems like on paper,
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: we're losing a lot of championship players who are admittedly
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: older and not the players that they once were. That
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: this is a group that, although the talent might not
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: be as high or you know, jump out at you
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: on paper, that this is a group of guys who
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: were going to play together and play greater than the
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: sum of their parts. And I think that that's been
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: the case a lot of times, maybe not specifically with
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: an entire unit of defensive offense, but with position groups
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: over the years and here and there, and you know,
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: and I brought up Nikovich, I think that's a good
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: example of a you know, a guy that that if
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: you were looking at that, I mean, it wasn't even
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: an offseason depth Hardy came in in the middle of
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: a training camp, I think in oh nine as a
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: like a long snapper. You know. So those kind of
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: things do occasionally happen, but I think you're kind of
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: saying that you're counting on that to happen again with
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: this group. And you know, ray Kwan McMillan is going
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: to be an every down linebacker for us, and he's
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: going to bring you know, maybe maybe not the speed
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: element at linebacker that people want. But he's going to
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: give you enough athleticism that he can keep up with
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: some of these quicker teams. Yeah, I don't. I don't
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: know what he can do. I mean he was here
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: for baarlier a week and when he got hurt. No,
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: And the only thing I kind of glum onto is
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: that Mayo when he talked about him and how they
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: lost him, it just seemed out of his way to
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: be like, we were really disappointed. We thought he had
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: some things that we could do with him, and that
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: stuck out to me. Well, Yeah, I don't want to
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: get my hopes up of like he's, you know, the
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: next coming of anything. But I do think they liked
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: him and thought that he could that he could work here. Yeah,
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: and coming off the knee injury, I just have managed
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: expectations for what he can do. We'll see bart from Poland.
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: Hello guys and Tamara. When it comes to this draft
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: and trading down, Paul wondered, why do so when it's
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: the worst draft in years? And I agree, it's the
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: worst draft since twenty thirteen when it comes to top
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: end talent, but it's also the deepest class in years.
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: Bill even mentioned it himself. He said that it's a
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: very deep class because there are many COVID seniors that
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: state at school, so I can see the value in
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: accumulating eight round draft picks. I have also recently finished
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: watching Seinfeld, and I wanted to thank you because you
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: were one of the reasons I watched the series, as
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: you sometimes mentioned it on the show. I have to
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: say it was probably a top three TV series I've
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: ever watched. George and especially Kramer were my absolute favorites.
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: My favorite episode has to be the contest also shut
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: out to Frank Costanza and as famous I stopped short, Yeah, oh,
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: there's so many greats and stopped shut with my wife.
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: And it's just on constantly. I think that that that that,
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: and it's so great to hear somebody come upon a
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: show like that that that wasn't familiar with. But it's
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: just on constantly, So I think it's easy to kind
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: of take it for granted, but if somebody actually sits
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: down and consumes it starts a lot of episodes. How
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: many episodes did that end up with? I mean, i'd
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: definitely one hundred, twenty thirty, forty fifty somewhere Frank can
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: give you the synopsis of every one of them. So, Fred,
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: how many were there? One hundred and thirteen? Esperiously, I
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: know a lot of people who know Seinfeld. Fred gives
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: you the deep dive d Yeah, I thought it was
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: more than a little more than one hundred is always
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: kind of the benchmark. You get to one hundred, you'll
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: get to set. Everybody gets the big bucks, right, that's
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: when them that's when the big bucks start rolling in.
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: Do you still watch Seinfeld? Um? You know they you don't.
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: They're not on that much anymore. Uh. He did a
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: deal with um they move it. They moved it, Yeah,
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: or one of them, one of them, because it used
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: to be like what was it TV? Yeah? They were
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: always on every night at like seven. They're not They're
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: not always on. Yeah, I stopped short. I mean, that's
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: all he needs to say. You know, I have, like
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: I think I have the DVDs of pretty much every season.
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: But you know who watches DVDs anymore? You know? I know,
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: I don't don't even have a DVD player, So I
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: don't even have a manner with which to watch them, right,
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: a manner I don't. I don't. Do you have a
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: DVD player. Yes, I do. Really Jesus, he's got a
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: cassette player. No, I don't have a cassette players it
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: next to the VCR. No, I don't have a VCR.
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: I have a DVD player. Why because I still have
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: a lot of DVD How do you play your A tracks?
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: Stop it now, you're now, you're now, you're being We
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: talked about this during the first night of the Draft show.
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: We talked about how what a waste of money it
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: was when you bought DVDs and you got like this
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: whole library of DVDs, and right, great, like that's taken
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: up space in my house when I could just order it.
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: I have one of those racks of CDs yea, and
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: Beth won't let me throw it away. No, like it's
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: it's it's mean. It's actually a you know, it's a
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: nice kind of like cherry wood stacked and there's probably
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: like fifty or sixty CDs in it. What are you
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: keep in this for? It's made four CDs? Yeah, it's like,
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: you know, your shelves are like that, slide them in.
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: I just don't know what people need to throw it
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: away when you used to just go to the store
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: and you can't listen to any CDs. I'm just gonna
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: buy a CD and like, I like one song and
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: then you just seven seven. I just listened to seven,
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: Like it's such a for me and Fred it was.
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: It was albums. Albums. Yeah, you had to get up
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: and like, like, how did you ever find something you like? Like,
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: now you know what I used to do. Like I
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: used to play an album and it will always start
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: like that, there's like one song on the album that
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: I liked. But then I would say, I would do
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: my homework and I would put like three albums on,
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: and you know that they get finished, and then the
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: next one comes on and I end up listening to
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: entire albums and starting to like some of the songs
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: that don't really get released. When fire comes on your updance.
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: But you know, I'll give you an album that I
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: used to listen to that I would like Glasshouse is
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: Billy Joel Oh, yes, I mean there's like alf the Lane.
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: There's like random songs that I never would have heard of.
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: I loved when you stacked the albums. You know how
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: I used to staff you had to buy two of
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: each album so that you didn't have to get up
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: to turn. Did you really do that? Knowing the kind
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: of money you come from. I just assumed that I
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: did erect the main streets of Genis. He doesn't just
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: have like a like a record boy. Oh boy, yes,
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: oh boy, I'll bet you though some people did that.
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: You know. Uh Monterey, Mexico. This is where Enrique is from.
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: Listen and he says, first of all, I've been a
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: fan since nineteen eighty six, so I have seen the
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: highest of the highs and the lowest of the lows.
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: And I can't be more grateful to what Bill has
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: done for US fans. Nine AFC Championships, six Super Bowls.
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: He is the goat of coaching. That being said, however,
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: why is it so sacrilegious to say that maybe the
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: game is starting to pass him by. It happened to
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: the best in history, Landry Noel Shanahan, Joe Gibbs. The
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: game evolves and unfortunately the old school ways begin to
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: turn obsolete. Players change Now they have the power to
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: say what they want. They want to win games, but
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: they want to have as fun, want to have fun
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: as well. Maybe players and coaches don't want to go
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: to new England because they know they'll be silenced by Bill.
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: The last three Super Bowl winners have been coached by
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: fun loving, but hard working coaches, and the league is
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: getting younger, faster, more dynamic, and we still are drafted
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: players that no one knows that Bill thinks that they
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: are more cerebral than talented. Don't know, but maybe New
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: England needs a chance change of scenery in the near future. Wow, Joneman,
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: just step in and answer this one for your fresh
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: Sure who else you rather have? That's right? Who's better?
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: That's right? I just think there's there's a lot of
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: different ways to coach, and you can be successful being
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: a players because you've got to do what's right for you.
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: And I don't want I don't want to believe that
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: a place where it's it's really hard and it's really
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: disciplined that don't work no more. You don't wait, I
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: don't want to believe. I don't want to believe. Well,
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: but it's funny, like he said, the last three coaches
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: were kind of fun loving, hard working coaches. Well, two
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: of those guys were old. Andy Reid and Bruce Arians
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: were old, old schools, older coaches who maybe you if
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: you want to make an argument. I don't know if
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: it's true, but you can make an argument. But they've
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: done a better job adapting with the times than Bill has.
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: But I think Bill's adapted to the personalities of the players,
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: Like I don't think he's the same way. I mean
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: some of the things that people say, like, well, you
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: don't you know you're you're not on social media on
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: a Bill Belichick team. All of these guys are on
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: social I mean Matthew Judon spent the whole he's recruiting people,
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: recruiting players like I could see that fifteen years ago,
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: really growing up the backside. Yeah, he's been more legal,
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: so I think he's been more lenient now. I think
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: the better argument to make against Bill would be has
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: some of his ways, you know, like his old school
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: thoughts of how the game should be played. How many
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: times have even heard of his disdain for the passing
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: game at the college level. Yeah, got news for you.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: The passing game at the college level was infiltrated itself
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: into the NFL. That is the NFL now, So either
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: you you figure out how to do it that way.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: And I think he is I don't think the game
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: has passed him by no, But I understand the mindset
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: of that, and I'm kind of with Duce. I don't
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: want to believe that anything. Bill is seen and appreciated
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: the evolution of the game over the years. You know,
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: he's seen how things people innovate, people adapt, you know,
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: and he's been right there with it. So I don't know,
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: I yeah, and I like, I just, I just I
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: just think he's the best, and just we're very lucky
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: to have him and he should stay until he wants
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: to go. I mean, just think about him on that
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: show that I don't I forget what they called it,
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: but with Brady and the Top one hundred where he
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: was an analyst and he won an Emmy before it
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: like that, that's the stuff right there. I mean, he
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: sees the game. He knows that was special stuff to
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: hear his He's regardless, But I just I find his
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: insight on players and you know Ed Reid talking about
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: Ed Reid and you know how he sees the game.
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: I think that stuff's fascinating. And also, you know, I
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: just absolutely ate up the football life where you got
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: to see him talk to the team. I think that's
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: something you never get to see in my star turning
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: that you saw, Yeah, you were at the table, hands folded,
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: you saw it. You saw the press conference. I took it.
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: You got a note, you took a note down. I
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: may have, but may have been that may have been
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: my period of time where I was doing the crap
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: date every day and up Bill said this, Um, but
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: I I absolutely love that stuff. And I think that
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: that's the stuff that that none of us really really
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: see is is how does he you know, what does
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: the stuff like when he takes him to a certain
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: movie or um, you know, shows him a fight and
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: talks about how the fight unfolded and how it looks
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: like it's even and what guy's gonna win? You know,
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: all those little coaching stories you hear over the years.
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: That's the stuff that I eat up and find fascinating.
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: And I mean, just any coach, how do you how
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: do you motivate a bunch of men to work together?
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: I love that, And I'm particularly interested in the guy
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: like that that's been around for so long, right, because
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: not only how you motivate the players, how do you
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: motivate yourself to continue to do the money day? He
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: doesn't seem like he's unmotivated, absolutely right, he looks. And
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: I say this all the time. People ask you know,
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: people ask me, you know sometimes at the combine frame. Yeah,
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: people ask me. You know how you answer, how have
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: you seen Bill change? Haven't? Like in that regard, I
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: see the same guy I see. You know. I'm not
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: with him obviously in meetings and all that stuff behind
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: the scenes, but when I watch him at practice, he
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: might spend a little more time talking to people at practice,
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: like as warm up is going on, But he's the
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: same guys, the whistles twirling, the blindest racing. You can
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: see it, and I see it. And as soon as
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: the season ends, he jumps into that mode of, Okay,
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: you get your two weeks off, we look at what
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: happened during the season, we do the self scouting, take
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: a short little break here, and then we dive right
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: back into it like there's nothing where He's ever indicated
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: like you know, this is it? Yeah? And and also
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: is uh And he's mentioned this before just the and
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: I love this too now that this is my job.
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: It's just you're being on the football cycle, like he
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: I think he said, like, you know, you tell me
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: what month it is and what day, I'll tell you
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: what we're doing. We're doing. Yeah, same thing here, Like
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: I like that too, you know, and he looks thrilled
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: to be doing I'm serious. Yeah, I don't mean, but
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: when he talks about that, Yeah, when he talks about
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: that process, you can hell, that's the juice, that's what
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: he Let's get back to the phones Melvin's and Tennessee,
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: Hey Malvin, Hey, um, I liked the receiver. I can
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: go ahead and with that, I'm for that one. Nice. Um.
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: The question I had was with the running back that
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: we got you just picked up. Do we have any
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: like James White replacement? And he's not fitting that mode?
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: I don't think right? Or is that I think that's
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: what he is? Yeah, yeah he is. Okay, he's a
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: smaller guy, doesn't break a lot of tackles, but he
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: has electric speed. Yeah, okay, okay. I was looking at
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: trying to see if that's what the direction that I
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: was going to trying to go, or if he's a
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: really good catching the ball by getting in late. So
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: I was trying to see what you all thought of that.
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: Is that the goal that they were I mean accomplishing.
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: I mean, I would say it just aside from even
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: that player, I think, you know, generally, I think it's
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: I'm surprised they hadn't drafted a player like that the
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: last two years. I mean, they think it was clear that,
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: you know, James White had had some some injury issues,
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: and I mean he's getting a little older. It's just
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: they've always been so proactive at that position. It was
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: a little weird not to see them, you know, other
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: than J. J. Taylor, who, as we said earlier, I
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: don't think you really like all right, Thanks Melvin, appreciate
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: the car. Let's go to John in Pennsylvania. Hey, John, Hey,
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: how's it going, guys. I'll tell you it's brutal living
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: in Pittsburgh to be a pay for expan. Yeah, I
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: can imagine. But I'm just gonna do a little Seinfeld
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: reference here watching the draft and John is getting frustrated.
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: But one of the things that I guess, you know,
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: living outside of the state for many, many years and
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: just watching it, the big frustrating thing is they make
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: these drafts and then you never see the players. There's
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: always injuries or Dalton Keene. I haven't seen Dalton Keene
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: in two year years from mcgron didn't play, Perkins didn't play,
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: you know, and it's kind of hard because you watch
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: them and you finally get like ou J and Win
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: of Itch and you see him a little bit, but
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: you don't see him that much. So it's hard to
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: really know what type of team you have when a
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: lot of these guys, whether it's injuries or whatever, haven't
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: had those years to develop to really see what you had.
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: I think that's what we think is coming this year.
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: And I think we're all I mean, I guess I
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: don't want to say cautiously optimistic. I mean I hope
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: to be offtistic. I can't. I can't tell you that
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: I'm brimming that this you know that this is gonna
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: work out great with all these guys, I mean, some
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: of them will probably pop hopefully, But I think that's
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: what we're had to We're going to finally get a
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: look at a lot of these guys. I think, yeah,
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: And I do think this is Strong was probably the
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: best pick at this point. Strong Yeah, I think I
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: think Strong was definitely the best pit We'll see well,
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: I think the guy to me, if you said, if
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: you had to pick one guy, who's gonna make the
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: team and be a starter this year. It's strange. Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: I would say it's easy to say with any first
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: round pick. Yeah, but I think, you know, but unless
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: the first round pick commits a felony, he's not getting cut.
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: I mean serious, I don't mean cut. I mean like
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: he's gonna start. Yeah. I'm certainly intrigued by Thornton, but
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: I think Marcus Jones was just his ability to return.
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: He seems like a ball hawk. It's their kind of guy.
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: I mean, it's a he's a little redundant, you know,
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: between Jonathan Jones, Miles Brian, the shorter, aggressive slot guys.
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: But I gotta I gotta say it's not just because
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: the last name. The first thing I thought of when
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: I saw the bio on on Marcus Jones was Cyrus Jones.
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: You know, like because everybody thought when they drafted Cyrus
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: Jones the top of the second in round. I think
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: he was the second rounder. But you really are like
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: bringing me down because I was kind of reduced. I'm like,
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: at the very least, you have a dynamic return man.
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: But that's what they said about That's what Cyrus Jones was.
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: He's not wrong you know, that's what Cyrus Jones was like, Well,
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: at least at least I'll give you that, even if
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: he's not a starter on defense and he couldn't even
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: do that Houston, Alabama. Thanks John. Um, well, let's go exactly,
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: And Melancholy Douche just managed made me feel Let's go
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: to Scott and Chris Dale. What's up serious, hey, listen, brekin,
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: is this uh? Is this phone connection a little better
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: than yesterday? Much better? Much better? Paid your bill? And yeah, yeah,
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: thank you. Um and and by the way, you can
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: tell me my phone sucks when I'm telling you to
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: shut it, but your phone doesn't suck today, Chris, good
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: job exactly. Um. Okay, So I'm kind of like Paul
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: in the sense of I don't like people putting words
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: in my mouth, and I'm gonna, you know, make sure
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: that you know because I value my fellow listeners here
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: and everything, and I don't want to take unnecessary shots
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: when they're they're unworn. So I'm going to spend very
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: little time on this subject. But Deuce, yesterday when we
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: were talking, you brought up that people like to make
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: you well to be a Patriots bobo, and this that
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: and the other My comment to you when I called
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: in was, hey, maybe the reason people are saying that, right,
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: that's the key phrase right there, is because when somebody
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: gets into whatever it is about the drafts or the
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: cliches about hey, you're not winning without Brady, and you know,
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: you reach for every pick that you take, and you
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: suck in free agency, and on and on and on,
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: you do your size, you make a snide comment, you know,
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: things like that. That's why people feel the way they
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: feel about you. I just want to make sure we're
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: clear on that whole subject. Does that make sense? It's
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: now the words. He's not saying that you you are
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: a bobo. He's saying maybe the reasons some people say
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: that or because of that? All right, okay? Right, so
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: I was and I was just speconding that that like,
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: for me as a caller, who's you know, beyond dedicated
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: to this show and everybody knows that who's there even
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: before you were there? I love this show. And so
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: when I called in and you kind of piddled, I'll say,
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: on my opinions, you know, five shows ago, I left
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: feeling like, you know, yeah, you know, Bills Beyond Reproach.
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: Nobody can say anything, you know, blah blah blah, you're
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: gonna stand on the wall and whatever. And that's why
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: I said I appreciated Paul so so much, because he literally,
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: just like he said to that ding that that called
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: him and challenged him earlier, Paul basically, for better or worse,
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: calls it like it is, period, straight down the line.
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: He may not always be right. I said that yesterday.
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: He may not always be right. And Paul admitted that
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: to the caller, I'm wrong a lot. Literally, we'll call
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: it down the line. Go ahead, start No, I'm wrong
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: a lot. I mean, I'll start with rigid seymore. Yeah,
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: I couldn't be more wrong. I resign, all right, kidding
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: that's definitely the wrongest And Freddie getting back to the draft.
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: You know, one of the prospects I wanted to say
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: before my Pahl was just horrible yesterday apparently, and again apologies,
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: there's a guy named Derek, kind of an odd spelling
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: young and and Paul I message you with that yesterday.
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: If you want to look up the spelling or whatever.
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: I wanted to know if he was still on the
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: board and if you guys know anything about him, Um,
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: you know, he looks like a a sleeper as far
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: as a dynamic receiver like with spies and ability to
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: get open, good hands catcher, not having to fight for
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: the ball, like a guess where he went to school,
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: Lenor Ryan. Huh, Women's department. I wanted to say Lenoor
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: Ryan exactly. That was the connection. Yeah, and yeah, that's
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: just odd that he's from there. And I thought that
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: was a little bit unique as well, but unbelievable draft.
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: If they took another subdivision one guy right well, just
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: down in the sixth and seventh round, Yeah, this is
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: where you're gonna but they've already taken two, right like Chattanooga,
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: so Dakota State. Yeah, yeah, no, absolutely absolutely. And then
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: you know, talking about redundancy positionalwise with it with the
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: cornerbacks ball, um, you know, like we already have Brian's
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: and you know and Jones and what have you. Now
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: we took two more guys that are five nothing, you
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: know what I mean, Yeah, and and threw them in
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: no length, you know, nobody to to work the outside.
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: I'm just kind of concerned about that in the lack
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: of linebackers and then no defensive tackle to kind of
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: pair with bar more or spell bar more for arrest
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: or whatever and not lose much, you know from there
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: and what that. Guys, I'm going to hang up and
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: just appreciate everybody and great show is all. Thanks Chris,
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: Thanks Chris. Yeah, I mean they still have Lawrence guy. Um,
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: so I don't think that. And I know that you
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: want some Davis, you want fatties in the middle too. Yeah,
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: I mean, how do how do you do in the
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: playoff game last year? A refresh your memory? Nobody he
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: was he was a healthy scratch nobody. Um, oh there's
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: there's uh Greg the Lake the punter just went off.
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: Oh oh yeah punting God to Buffalo, Matta Raisa to Buffalo.
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: So I'm gonna I'm gonna say it, that's a terrible pick.
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: Why because they don't. First of all, you don't need
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: a play, you don't need to punt. You don't need
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: a punter in the draft because against you just get
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: one on drafted. Second of all, you get a guy
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: from San Diego State who punts at San Diego State,
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: and then you're gonna go and ask him to punt
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: and Buffalo and it's just not good, not a good
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: not a good move. Strong likes travel Paul. Yeah, we'll see.
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: I think there's a reason. Look listen, I don't pretend
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: to have watched any of these guys punts because I'm
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: not a loser. There's a reason that two other punchers
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: got drafted before this guy. I mean that he's not
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: the best puncher in the class, Joey despite the bona fides,
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: Joey writes in is it me or does it feel
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: like every other team except the Patriots got the picks
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: they wanted? I also get the feeling that in the
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: past eight drafts the Patriots have been settling. Do you
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: really not think the Patriots took guys they wanted it?
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: I can understand where a fan would think that, but
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: every team is subject to what's on the board. I
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: just don't get how something people can be so confident
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: in what they think, like I That's what I'm saying,
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: and I'm still just that anything, Like I I mean,
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: I put I put time into this, and I'm still
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: just like, I don't they know they know the truth.
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: I'm just called but like I don't like again, I
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: don't operate under the assumption they're right. But do you
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: honestly think they took guys they don't like, right, of
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: course they like them, like some other teams took guys
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: that you like, so you assume they got the guys
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: they want. Like Yes, Houston, for example, with Nick Assario,
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: had a Patriots like draft. He traded all over the
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: board and he got players that I think a lot
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: of Patriots fans are familiar with because we were looking
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: at some of those guys as possible Patriots, right, So
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: you look at that and you're like, Oh, they got
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: who they wanted. I know that Bill want the guys
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: they drafted. We may not feel the same way right now,
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: by the way, we're two picks away from making another pick. Yeah,
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: all right, so almost there, Russell and Arkansas. I made
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: the mistake of watching the highlights of Thornton and Marcus
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: Jones on the Patriots YouTube channel, and I must say
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: there was movement. As Paul says, I was unaware that
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: Marcus Jones is somewhat of a two way player. Is
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: it possible that he makes some legit snaps on offense,
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: hopefully legit meaning during a game. The only reason I
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: asked is that in that highlight it shows him playing offense. Yeah,
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: you better you should hope that he doesn't based on
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: what they did, because they've spent a lot of money
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: at wide receiver in tight end past few years, and
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: they drafted a guy who's really fast. So if they
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: have to be forced reduced to playing him on offense,
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: I think that's a Yeah, that's I really think right
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: now he might be my, you know, my favorite guy.
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: Not that that's saying a ton of Marcus. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: I'm kind of with you. Yeah, that's just normally the case.
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: You generally swayed me. Yeah, in my opinion, you know,
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: I'm very wishy washy, right, and I could easily be swayed.
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: That's why they hate you. I didn't know I was
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: a big sire. It might have been sire do I
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: sigh a lot of people that that's the only thing
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: from the last call that took me by, took me
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: off a little bit. I didn't know I was a
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: big sire. I don't notice that you're a big sire.
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: I think you're a little sarcastic. You're a little bit
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: am sarcastic. I can get lost. I'm definitely a big baby.
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: You are definitely I'm getting sarcastic, which and I'll go
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: for the joke over like you know, like you are,
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: I'll push back subtly sarcast Yeah, and I think it's
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: not platantly obvious when you're being sarcastic, like snarky Paul
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: is pretty obvious. Yeah, you have a way about you
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: that I look and I'm like, oh, maybe that's something
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: that has to do with with some of that. Uh
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: that gets lost in translation. Patrick from Ottawa in Mexico. Uh,
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: these draft shows have been epic. Deuce's rants have been phenomenal,
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: and all the callers have been bringing the heat. Deuce,
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: don't fret about the callers, because what they're missing is
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: a title as a little thing called nuance. I completely
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: understand your objectivity, and you have been warning us about
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: the defense for a while. You are not a Homer.
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: I'm quite surprised fans still haven't gutten Bill's draft strategy.
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: He told us a while ago he only drafts players
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: he wants to coach. Players that have superstar talent will
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: not buy into his system because they know they are
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: supremely talented. You really hate this draft, and ultimate really
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: hate this draft, and ultimately they took stud athletes. One
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: of which was thrown out of school. So you really
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: have to hate this draft and ultimately will not make
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: the will not take the below market value deals that
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: Bill routinely offers. Less talented players will always be grateful
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: that Bill drafted them and will defer to Bill, not
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: make waves and take the low deals. That's why he
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: over drafts players for control. Talented players will always want
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: more money than he's willing to give, and this is
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: considered a sound strategy, that's what he says. I think
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: this is a might do so subtle, sarcastic idea. I
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: know that's what I was feeling coming on right now,
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: like someone really put pen to paper and things. Yeah,
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: this is a good idea. We're gonna take lesser players
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: so they'll be beholden to and we'll get lesser players
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: to stay and play for us and play ineffectively for longer.
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: That's what that email just said. Oh my god, you
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: know it's day three of the draft when you're getting
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. My goodness. And to classify the
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: guys the Patriots have taken in this draft, the fastest
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: wide receiver, the fastest running back, the most athletic guard,
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: as guys that quote lesser talented players that are gonna
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: be more rapped to sign a second contract. Yeah, that's absurd,
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: Like why why would have got Like if don't you
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: want your draft picks to work out? Fred, Like, isn't
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: the goal to draft someone and have them be really good? Yes,
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: and then when you have to sign them to the
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: second contract, you're not getting a bargain. Like, who's the
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: last guy that signed a second con the last quality
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: player that signed a second contract for below market value?
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: Brian Hoyne couldn't tell you, Jay Jones, Shack. I mean,
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: were their contracts Jack at the top of the market. Yeah,
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: at the time, I'm just trying to like it was
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: just going to say, in reality, they haven't had too
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: many guys signed a second contract, right, Dietrich Wise was
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: wanting I think he was grossly overpaid. Well, think about
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: all the Rutgers guys. Mccordy certainly was underpaid. And when
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: it came time for the other guys, Bill let him go.
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: Do you think mccordy is underpaid? No, I said, you
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: didn't listen. I said he's certainly not underpaid. I'm sorry,
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: I thought you said he's certainly underpaid. Said thought, you're right,
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: he's certainly not underpaid. My apologize. And when it came
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: time for the other guys, they wanted more and they left. Yeah,
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: and they paid through the nose to keep h McCurdy mc.
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: They're gonna be paying him to twenty thirty. Eric from Amsburg,
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: I want you guys to give me two things. For Strange,
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: Thornton and both Jones we should be excited about. So
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: for all of them, two things about all of them. Well, Strange,
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: I think you said it before. Fred, I think you
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: can pretty much pencilin. He's gonna be a start. He's solid.
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: But well, I don't know how I was gonna say.
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: I can't even get excited about that because whatever God
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: they took would be the start, right, So solid, I
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: good kid. I'll see if he saw We'll see how
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: we'll see. Yeah, Man, maybe he's a good kid. That
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: that's nice. I'm the other two fast. I want to
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: see how fast they are because they're they've been lacking
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: that in recent years. So um downfield for Thornton, the
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: versatility for Marcus Jones. We haven't had a burner in
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: a long time on this team, right, So that's in
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: itself is exciting. Yeah, yeah, I just I'm curious what
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: direction they're going with it all. And we got another
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: pick that's about to pop up here in a second.
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: But um, you know, I just I think that Marcus
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: Jones is a oh it's gonna wis No, I'm just
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: looking at who selection might be. He uh, you know,
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: it's it's interesting. Jack Jones seems like I said, a
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: little bit more of the traditional mold and and how
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: does this all play out? Sean Wade all that, But
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: I think they've definitely gotten faster. Um, I just have
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: questions about along the line of scrimmage defensively, um Pal writes,
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: and he says, I have a football crush. I have
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: a football crush on Kingsley and Agbar and I thought
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: he would be a top three round pick. I can't
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: believe he's sliding. Do any of you have any scouting
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: insight on Kingsley? And do you think he would be
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: a good fit backing up Judean or potentially on the
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: opposite side of Judean. I don't even know who he is. Yeah,
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: I've lost him. He was taken. Uh, I think he
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: got taken already. I think he gots taken by Green Bay. Yeah,
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: I gotta look. Okay, Yes, he was taken with the
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: last pick of the fifth round and New England's pick
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: New England. Oh yeah, the double dips at a position.
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: I just don't understand why you would double dip. Go ahead,
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: duck officially if it's if it's on the it's not
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: on the twitter position. Just draft. It looks like they've
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: doubled dipped. Yeah, at a position. Just gonna wait, Oh
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: did you sorry? Yeah, I gotta listen. Um, but that
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: Darian Beaver's guy went to to the Giants before I
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: know he was. He was one of the first guys
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: I looked at that seemed kind of Patriotcy linebacker. But
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: he's off the bode and come on, come on, somebody,
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: come on bird just oh, here we go. They're gonna
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: announce it. Nobody's tipping picks anyway. Who's that guy? Yeah?
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: Who is that guy? Kevin Harris running back South Carolina. Yeah,
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: so another running back I off of my Oh they're
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: not even doing it. Um, yeah, it wasn't familiar, but
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: but South Carolina and the Beast just has a physical
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: appetite and hammers what is blocked for him? But his
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: monotone speed and bland creativity, creativity lower his next level ceiling.
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: He had seventeen one hundred yards. Uh did he say speed? Yeah,
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: monotone speed. I don't know if that that doesn't make sense.
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: It doesn't make any sense. I only got one tone
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: of speed. Yeah, he only has one gear, one gear
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: right when you look at it. That I mean, I
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: know what he's trying to say. But yeah, yes, but
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: I'm saying it. He doesn't have a change. But if
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: that gear is really fast, obviously it's not. But he's
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: about a special teamer. Yeah, for six two forty right,
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: drafting special teamers. So we are in the sixth round. Yeah, well,
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: I mean we always have it. That's what undrafted, you know.
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: I mean I think this is a you know, the
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: previous the previous guy was more of a receiver back
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: and this is you know what, Harrison, I don't understand
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: why would draft two running backs because one is a
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: special teamer. I can get a special team. It's not
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: drafted free agent like you did, Brandon Bolden. You got
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: a draft. Guys, draft somebody better. I'm not kidding. Give
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: me the guy. I don't know. I'm not I'm not
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: a scout. I'm not even saying better something that you
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: need special teams don't need. You don't need special teams
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: on this team. No, you don't, Fred, They've they've dropped
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: off a little. Fred, I have no doubt that there
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: are special teams needs. You don't need to draft them,
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: right Like Brandon Bolden was this quality special teamer for
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: a lot of years. They didn't draft him rights, right Like,
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: you don't have to have a running back in the
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: sixth round. You don't have. You already have four running
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: you don't have to. But if you think this guy
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: can be good, then you draft him. Oh he seems
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: I mean I don't that's me signing into the microphone.
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: I don't really see any of his specials on the
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: block right or gone next year? Well, I think he'll
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: be gone next year. But you don't have to, you know,
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: draft the guy in the sixth round. So yeah, Harris
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: Romandre Stevenson, James White, Pierre Strong now and this guy
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: Jjju Montgomery time Montgomery another one? Yeah, yeah, I mean
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: that isn't he a special teamer? No? I think he
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: he uh, he projects to be in the offense, but
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: he's a special team or Brandon Bouldo was in the
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: offense last year too, he was a special teamer. Well,
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: he had to because of INSI I mean, I know,
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: but he has eight running backs on the RESTERNT. Yeah right,
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: I mean I know they're usually run by a committee,
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: but I think your committee was already. I just listen.
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: It's a sixth round pick. No one cares. I get it,
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: but I just where is he from? You couldn't get
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: another like you know what I pick here, like a guard,
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: another guy at that depth that might be able to
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: provide some depth for you, and you know, maybe he's
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: better than Justin Haran. Yeah, or you know, I don't know,
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: somebody big fatty, take a big fatty or slot defense
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: or defense or tackle to slot receiver. But Jacob Hellman
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: writes in um am, I supposed to say last names anyway,
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: he's from He's from Virginia. I'm loving the draft. After
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: years of complaining that the Patriots are old and slow,
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: we're taking athletes. I brought him up to one. But
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: the final step is to trade up asap and get
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: a Mari Barno from Virginia tech edge player with a
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: four three sixty. Yeah, at least we're old and a
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: little bit faster. Now we still have the oldest roster
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: in the league, but at least we have a little speed. Oh,
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: we're coming up on my favorite part of the draft,
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: which is when it's over and they tell you who
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: you got and you're like, oh, I mean, I enjoy
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: the process and this has been wonderful and fun. But
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: I'm just saying, like I was a Paul White comment
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: right there. But but it's just so much of a
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: relief when you could get off of what about Jim's
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: spokenheimer from Oregon. Yeah, give me the ten guys, let
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: me go look at them. This is what we got
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: to look forward to this summer, you know. I mean,
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: the journey of the draft shows is awesome and all that.
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: I don't want to downplay that, but but I respect
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: the guys that like can sit there and legitimately call
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: it and a lot of talk they need to trade
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: up a SAP to get this guy. Yet, ye seven,
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: one more call. We're getting to the end of the show.
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: Will's in Houston, Texas. What's up Will? Will? He said
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: that was Will Phil. Well, where there's a Will, there's
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: no way. Sorry about that. Will Johnson and Porter's Lake
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: Nova Scotia just started listening to the show today, But
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: I'm happy with these day three picks. Strong could do
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: very well for himself in this system. He'll play this
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: year and his sweet feet is a no go. He
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: will be able to step up into that role. Jack
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: Jones is solid as well. I would not be surprised
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: if he could be cornerback one or two by the
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: end of the year. Okaya's best available, Todd, Todd, you
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: gotta go up and get him right. That was my
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: That was my mel Kipery Scott wants to know how
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: many games will Bill win you as a coach for
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: his Bill as a GM an he will anyone willing
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: to take a shot at this question. Pretend you're not
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: on the payroll. How many games will Bill win you
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: as a coach for his Bill as a GM That's
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: like an impossible to seven and twenty four. I don't know, random,
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: Like I don't do you look at it and say, like,
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: no other coach could have won that game today, Like
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: that game plan was Bill Belichick. Only we've said that before. No, no, no,
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: I know, we absolutely do, But that doesn't mean it's true,
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: right You know, but maybe uh, and then I don't.
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: I don't have an example at the top of my head,
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: but maybe a GM example is, oh, they were really
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: shorthanded and he pulled it together, or even a season
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: he pulled it together with some guy. I guess that's
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: a coach thing. Never mind, never mind. I don't talk
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: myself out of the well I was going. I just
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: it's it's a hard thing to quantify. Like, I think
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: Bill is a really good coach. I think every week
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: they're they're very prepared to play. I think his his
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: exes and o's and game plan preparation. I think it's
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: really good. I mean every week. It doesn't mean I
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: agree with the game plan every week. I'll give you
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: an example. They played the Bills in a very similar
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: style defensively in the game the day after thinks that
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: day after Christmas and the playoffs, like the playoff game.
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: I'm looking and I'm thinking, they didn't change anything. It's
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: the same exact result. What would you like? It almost
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: told me that he still thinks Josh Allen can't play. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: you know, But for the most part, I don't think
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: he does that. I think he's generally got very good plans.
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: But does that mean that Build the coach cost him
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: to buy seven the GM put together and bring up
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: like if these two corners end up playing and playing
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: well and the defense wins the game, Okay, it's a combination.
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: He Build, the GM brought him in, but Build the
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: coach coached him up. You know, So, I mean I
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: think that's a good example. Oh seven is I mean,
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: they just they housed every they but all the talent.
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: They got braverybody in the off season. They stocked the
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: receiver position that was built that Bill Bill Build the
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: GM was the seven Tom the quarterback. Yeah. Sure, well
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: I gave him the weapons, of course. Well but yeah,
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: but he had never done what he had done up
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: to seven. That's when he turned into pinball office. You know.
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: All right, that's gonna be it for this edition and
