- 0:00Father and daughter duo, how special is that?
- 0:02Do you ever feel like, Oh my gosh, he's so Korean?
- 0:07So Korean. What do they call?
- 0:23It. That's an unusual.
- 0:45Name. Happens to.
- 0:58How special? College High.
- 1:28School. Korean.
- 2:06They know. Take it.
- 2:59Like Italian clothes? Balance.
- 4:10Cultural identity. Like I can be myself and be
- 4:22crazy. Around.
- 4:38Them so. I.
- 5:08Yourself. I.
- 6:14I. Like stereotypical, like whether
- 6:52it be like school stuff growing on my friends.
- 7:06Stereotypical Korean parents. Your mom doesn't care about
- 7:31that. Yeah.
- 8:21Terrible. Emotionally.
- 9:03City. Where until like I have a valid
- 9:22explanation of why. Yeah, wow.
- 9:24Very, very introspective, stereotypical Korean father.
- 9:31Do you ever feel like, Oh my gosh, he's so Korean?
- 9:35So Korean. What do, what do they call it?
- 9:37I could I just shoot, you know? OK.
- 10:10I. Also.
- 11:29Like I feel like I'm falling behind, so it makes me feel a
- 11:44little anxious. There's a two time to them send
- 11:50a kid probably then during the day I didn't wouldn't meet that
- 11:54right. So if I think major like
- 11:56something that kind of automatically link it to like
- 11:59job or career theory to think about like what I want to do
- 12:02with the rest of my life. When I'm still 15 I'm going
- 12:05outside to play with my friends, like volleyball and stuff.
- 12:09Yeah. I mean, even if you major in
- 12:11something, it doesn't mean you're very into it for your
- 12:13life. But what interests you like what
- 12:15kind of stuff are interesting for you?
- 12:19It's like a passion I discovered recently, but Korean American
- 12:37teenager, I think that's one of my passions now.
- 12:48Nice. Yeah, I could totally see you
- 12:51doing something similar, but I just had to go creative,
- 12:55hungover, introspective. Yeah, you got all the
- 12:58components, but who knows, right?
- 13:02So vast. There are so many things out
- 13:05there that we don't even know about South.
- 13:07Interesting. I can tell.
- 13:54I'm. Like
- 14:24two voices. When I think of my emotions and
- 14:27feelings, it's like kind of like a Korean voice in my head.
- 14:32Really. That's really interesting.
- 14:35So when you're feeling happy or sad or confused, you think of
- 14:44like. So because connection.
- 15:02And like being Korean is something very.
- 15:07Important. Talk about what you said makes
- 15:26sense whenever they go. Imagine a language development
- 15:30psychologist to interview recording.
- 15:32So she's in Germany right? And her children speak 4
- 15:35languages, Yongo, Tokyo, Korean and Vietnamese?
- 15:40Because I put up Vietnamese emotional attachment first to
- 15:47the language. I don't know if you've seen this
- 15:50with your friends. You know, we send our kids to
- 15:52Korean school and first emotional attachment to harmony
- 16:05about my experience. So exactly what you're talking
- 16:19about. Siri, do you dream in Korean?
- 16:27Both. Both.
- 16:29Yeah, me too. Hachita Bunika, She's gonna
- 16:47point that Bunika. I feel like I'm growing more
- 16:49attached to them, even though I like, it's like this weird in
- 16:53between feeling. Yeah, I can't really.
- 16:55It is. It is.
- 16:56Yeah. In between is right.
- 16:58Well, how do you identify yourself?
- 17:00Like in terms. Of like ethnically.
- 17:03I say Korean American. Well, looking at like the
- 17:05questions that you provided, we're kind of talking about
- 17:08this, but. I'm just, I could be like just
- 17:19Korean, take it twice in a day. I don't think there's anything
- 18:01that can change the fact that I'm American.
- 18:03Like, I can change my American passport into a Korean one, but
- 18:06I don't think that'll change the amount of experiences I've had
- 18:09as a Korean American and, like, tell there's nothing that can
- 18:15undo that. So yeah, I can't discard the
- 18:18fact that I'm American. So I identify myself as a Korean
- 18:21American. So you have embraced that part
- 18:24too, of yourself, the American part, Undergrad Huggle couldn't
- 18:32tell. Tell when I come in there,
- 18:34she's, you know what the word she used, she felt betrayed.
- 18:39Betrayed because she. Yeah, betrayed because she
- 18:43thought that she's totally Korean, like you.
- 18:59They would, you know, treat you like a foreigner outsider.
- 19:05What do you think? I think that's like the exact
- 19:16word that I was thinking about, like.
- 19:44Guys, guys, come here. We're going to ask these.
- 19:55Get. There.
- 20:42What do you think is your superpower as a Korean American?
- 20:47My superpower. Like meeting a crowd, like
- 21:20whether it be like a Korean crowd, American crowd, Korean
- 21:36American crowd, like I think I have like a talent and like
- 21:40using my energy to like lead a group of people.
- 21:43So I think can also be used in that sense.
- 21:46So you're more flexible. And module.
- 22:27I. Taekwondo Hey.
- 23:05Your kids still use the word for no.
- 23:08I've never heard. Of.
- 23:10That I. Was.
- 23:15Like dumb as in like. Oh, that's interesting.
- 23:20I guess I don't know any like Young.
- 23:26Teenagers. Like racism, like I think I
- 23:45really faced that in my school. Really.
- 23:48You have never experienced racism.
- 23:51Like not really like especially in my school, I think it's
- 23:54really like an open environment and everybody's different.
- 23:57It's really, it's a really diverse school.
- 23:59We have so many like different cultural clubs that we have the
- 24:02Asian club, we have the Korean club, the African American club,
- 24:05we have so many. So I think we're all open to
- 24:08like that kind of like diversity in terms of culture and
- 24:10ethnicities, so. Really good thing is because
- 24:13you're in your city. Yeah.
- 24:27Like strict parents and that kind of stuff.
- 24:43Like parents like hoarding napkins at McDonald's and things
- 24:47like that. Plastic.
- 24:49Bags the bonding around. Well, I know you're only 15,
- 24:56don't worry, I'm not talking about your job So.
- 24:58But what kind of women do you want to become?
- 25:01I. Feel like when the Korean adults
- 25:02talk to me, they always go don't call me boy expecting like a
- 25:06dream job or whatever. And I really right because I
- 25:09don't think my life has to be centered around my career.
- 25:12I have different parts of my life where I think is like more
- 25:14important than just my career and stuff.
- 25:16So I don't really like that mentality.
- 25:44Oh. Well.
- 26:49I you get. Kind of reminded.
- 27:43Me. I was having like a mini midlife
- 27:51crisis in between when you were asking about, oh, what are you
- 27:55like building in life or what are your passions, things like
- 27:58that.
