- 1:29SPEAKER_00: As a young student, I thought talent was the ticket to success.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Teachers seemed to light up around the talented students,
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: those who excelled in the sciences and languages or advanced math.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: I wasn't one of them.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: I figured if I could breathe,
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: communicate in Southern U.S. English, add 2 plus 2, I'd get by just fine.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Biology?
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: No thanks.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: Calculus?
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: No, absolutely not.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Although I did learn basic algebra,
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: which has helped me in corporate life to create Excel spreadsheets,
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: but there's no calculus involved, not at the level I was using it.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: And then foreign languages?
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Well...
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Let's just say I could conjugate y'all with confidence.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: But something shifted when the subject interested me.

- 3:03SPEAKER_00: I am so glad we have voice memos.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: But more importantly, let's go back to my high school days.
