- 0:00It is the worldwide sports radio network.
- 0:04The last two head coaching openings in the NFL have been
- 0:07filled as the Arizona Cardinals and the number one offense in
- 0:11the NFLLA Rams and former Jets offensive coordinator Mike
- 0:16Lafleur. Lance's first head coaching gig
- 0:19while in the desert. The Davis family and Tom Brady
- 0:22have apparently reached an agreement with the offensive
- 0:24coordinator of the NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks, Clint Kubiak.
- 0:28Will these hires turn these franchises around, or are they
- 0:32just the last picks of the coaching cycle with little
- 0:35chance of real success? The Minnesota Vikings
- 0:38surprisingly fired their general manager of the past Four
- 0:41Seasons, Quesi Adofo Mensa, after the Vikings struggled
- 0:45offensively after letting Super Bowl quarterback Sam Darnold go
- 0:49for the underwhelming JJ McCarthy.
- 0:52After the firing, the stories of dysfunction in the building came
- 0:56out, mostly pointing the finger at the bygone GM.
- 0:59Will the Vikings find the right guy to pair with former Coach of
- 1:02the Year Kevin O'Connell? Or will it be another analytical
- 1:06guy like Adolfo Mensa who knows all the numbers but can't add
- 1:10up? The only ones that matter?
- 1:12The winds And before we get caged into some MMA and discuss
- 1:16UFC 325 and dial it up to 11, we'll dive inside baseball to
- 1:21cover all the offseason rumors, deals and controversies of the
- 1:24day on another fully loaded, jam packed, bursting at the seams
- 1:30live Monday night edition of Jabba and the Man.
- 1:37Difficult. You're going to have a ton of
- 1:39money to spend. Why not pulling in one of the
- 1:41top three offensive players in the league?
- 1:51We're going to be. Looking at Aaron Judge and
- 1:53saying that you can't win the big game, Michael Jordan said.
- 1:56I played 8 inch of games. You don't see the one doing
- 1:59that. A game where you got to go
- 2:02before I told you. Giant feet.
- 2:04Saquon Barker this Let's do.
- 3:04It listening to Jabba and the mouth.
- 3:10We are back, ladies and gentlemen, it's a new week.
- 3:15Wow, it's going fast. We're in February already.
- 3:18It's crazy. Soon we'll be in Christmas, my

- 3:29Mouth. My name is Errol Marks.
- 3:30They call me the Mouth. No, Jabba, At least for the next
- 3:33hour. Jabba is flying home from New
- 3:36York. I got a chance to meet him this
- 3:37weekend. I'll tell you in just a few
- 3:39moments you heard him, my executive producer, Mr. Aaron
- 3:42Fish Fishman, my other Co host, producer and personality as we
- 3:47call him. I don't know what you call him,
- 3:49Mr. Speedy PD on the board. Tommy poops and Nathan is in San
- 3:55Francisco enjoying himself in the nice sun and weather as
- 3:59you'll get a chance to watch the door Sanders at the Pro Bowl.

- 4:35So if anybody checked out the Grammys last night, because if
- 4:38you did, it was selfish and disrespectful.
- 4:42Because to me, I'm a music guy. I'm a DJ on the other side of
- 4:46what I do when it comes to radio and broadcasting and sports.
- 4:50I do music. And the Grammys is supposed to
- 4:53be for music, not political thoughts or personality.
- 4:59You know, traits brought out in a way where it would piss people
- 5:02off. And pretty much every single
- 5:05person, every single artist that went up and won an award, they
- 5:10were speaking about our country, speaking about politics.
- 5:14Republican, Democratic, I could care less what your political
- 5:19views are. We're there.
- 5:21And as a fan of music and, and the biggest time for the music
- 5:25industry is to watch the Grammys.
- 5:27All I want to do is listen to the awards and listen to the
- 5:31music. I don't want to hear your
- 5:32political views. So shame on the Grammy committee
- 5:36for allowing these people, including Noah.
- 5:39He was the personality. He was the host of the Grammys.
- 5:42He's been the host of the Grammys for the last five years.
- 5:45It was horrible that the Grammys allowed these guys or these
- 5:50ladies to go up there and and give your political views.
- 5:53I say this about athletes all the time too.
- 5:56Over the years you had LeBron James open his mouth during on
- 6:00and off the courts talking about his political views.
- 6:02Kyrie Irving with his anti-Semitic views, and we've
- 6:06heard Kawhi Leonard, we've heard Kevin Durant over the years, a
- 6:09lot of these different guys. And one of them that has been
- 6:13attacked many, many times in Speedy, You know what I'm
- 6:16talking about. He was a football player that
- 6:18was kneeling Kaepernick, Colin Kaepernick, who got attacked by
- 6:25his political views. And I'm not saying Colin
- 6:27Kaepernick was right. Anybody that goes down on his
- 6:30knees to the national anthem is disrespectful.
- 6:32But even though a lot of people believe that, he wasn't trying
- 6:35to disrespect the flag. When you go on your hands and
- 6:38knees and you're pretty much not respecting our national anthem,
- 6:42you're supposed to stand, take your hat off and salute our
- 6:46country. You live in our country, you
- 6:48support our country. That's the whole point.
- 6:51I don't want to hear about political views.
- 6:53You do Never. You guys never hear me on this
- 6:56show ever quote my political views because I don't want to
- 7:00piss anybody off. It's a sports radio show.
- 7:03I don't want to hear it. So what I watched on the Grammys
- 7:07last night was absolute nonsense.
- 7:10I don't want to hear it. I don't care what they think
- 7:12about our president. I don't care what they think
- 7:15about our country right now. All I think and all I care about
- 7:18is you want to talk about God, talk about God.
- 7:20And by the way, congratulations to all the artists that won
- 7:27Jelly Roll is Jelly Roll is one of my favorites.
- 7:30Very well deserved. I, I love the guy.
- 7:32I love his music. I love the back end of his story
- 7:35that he was once in jail and, and to get out and, and, and to
- 7:39accomplish all the things that he has done over the last couple
- 7:41of years is, is pretty incredible.
- 7:43So congratulations to Jelly Roll.
- 7:45And even his speech after, after the fact, he, he was speaking
- 7:49about God, he, he didn't even want to talk about anybody's
- 7:51politic or politician thoughts or even political views.
- 7:56So it just gives me an understanding of who and what
- 8:00these personalities, these different people out there are
- 8:04willing to go out of their way to attack or destruct what our
- 8:09country really is. And that's all I'm going to say.
- 8:12I I just wanted to make that be known on this show that I just
- 8:16didn't like how the Grammy committee allowed this.
- 8:19And honestly, if you can't go into an award show and enjoy it
- 8:24strictly just because of the music, and you're going to go
- 8:27off set and talk about something had nothing to do with the the
- 8:31organization of the Grammys or the award show, then it
- 8:34shouldn't be spoken about. I don't want to hear it.
- 8:38And I was really, really upset after the fact.
- 8:41So I just wanted to make that mark and clear, clear
- 8:44everything, clear my thoughts on all of that.
- 8:47This is a platform that I respect and I want all the fans
- 8:51to understand that. I want, I want every single fan
- 8:54to understand how I feel about the way our country is being
- 8:58pushed around and people in our country are throwing people
- 9:02under the bus when I honestly don't want to hear it.
- 9:04I don't watch political, you know, thoughts and, and, and
- 9:08watch political shows because I have no answer.
- 9:11There you are. There's Nathan.
- 9:12And is that your door? Whose birthday is it?
- 9:15I don't know. Oh, man, Nathan is a one.
- 9:19That ugly, ugly jacket. By the way, the ugly blue
- 9:22jacket. ESPN Adam Schefter reported over
- 9:25the weekend that the Las Vegas Raiders are expected to hire
- 9:28Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Clinton Kubiak as
- 9:33their next head coach. The move is unlikely to be made
- 9:37official until after the Super Bowl this Sunday.
- 9:40Under Kubiak, the Seattle Seahawks offense was excellent
- 9:44this season and was ranked second overall by Pro Football
- 9:49Focus. They finished in the top ten of
- 9:53most offensive metrics. Clint Kubiak is the son of
- 9:57former Super Bowl champion coach Gary Kubiak and has been a
- 10:02coordinator from 2019 to 2021 for the Vikings, Broncos, 49ers,
- 10:08Saints, and this year with the Seattle Seahawks.
- 10:11The Raiders interviewed 15 different head coaches this
- 10:15cycle and reports say that Tom Brady was very involved in the
- 10:19decision making. Well now to hire Kubiak.
- 10:23Schefner also reported that the Arizona Cardinals have hired
- 10:26Rams offensive coordinator Mike Lafleur as their next head
- 10:30coach. Reports say that the Cardinals
- 10:31were set to have another interview with Clinton Kubiak on
- 10:36Saturday, but pivoted to Lafleur after learning Kubiak was likely
- 10:42to take the Raiders job. The Rams had the top offense in
- 10:47the league last year under Lafleur in most major
- 10:51categories, including total yards, passing yards, first
- 10:55downs and points per game. Let's get into Clint Kubiak
- 10:59first. And I think Clint Kubiak has
- 11:01been one of the best young offensive coordinators in the
- 11:04NFL. Getting a chance to work with
- 11:06Sam Donald this year and developing a help develop Sam
- 11:10Donald and then bringing this offense together.
- 11:13Najigba had his best season as a starting wide receiver, as as we
- 11:17saw this year, he was the second best wide receiver, I think
- 11:20right behind the nasty man himself over there with the
- 11:23Rams. It seems like now that the
- 11:25season is over, you have Puka Nakua reaching out to every
- 11:28single woman. I mean, he's been on every
- 11:31single tweet, reaching out to movie stars, actresses,
- 11:36musicians, I mean, every single hot country singer.
- 11:39I see Puka Nukua liking everything.
- 11:41So Puka's out on the prowl. But one of the best young wide
- 11:46receivers in the league as well. But Clint Kubiak has been
- 11:49sensational all season long. And a lot of people believed he
- 11:52was going to get an opportunity to interview for some of these
- 11:55jobs. But there were a lot of good
- 11:56coaches available this offseason, even Mike Tomlin, who
- 11:59didn't land a job yet. And I think Mike Tomlin will sit
- 12:02out this year, get a chance to be a broadcaster and analyst for
- 12:07a year. He's going to make about 5 to
- 12:09between 5:00 and $10 million with Fox, and then he could
- 12:13decide if he wants to take a job next year.
- 12:15The Buffalo Bills, they just started to part ways with him.
- 12:17There was a chance to bring in one of these guys, but they
- 12:20decided with the thought of seeing the situation for what it
- 12:23was. You look at the position that
- 12:26Clint Kubiak brings to the table.
- 12:28One an experienced guy under his father, Gary Kubiak is one of
- 12:32the best offensive minds in the NFL and has been over the years.
- 12:36Won a Super Bowl with the Broncos, has been a part of many
- 12:40championship competitive teams. And Gary has two sons that are
- 12:44going to be coaches in the NFL one way or another.
- 12:47Clint Kubiak is the first, and I think Clint Kubiak is an
- 12:50interesting personality. 1 He doesn't speak much.
- 12:53How many times have you heard Clint Kubiak speak to the press,
- 12:55speak to the media? You don't really see it a lot
- 12:58and Gary Kubiak wasn't one to speak to the media either.
- 13:02He wasn't a guy that was outlandishly crazy when he was
- 13:05speaking to the media. He also stepped back and not
- 13:08throw any of his his team or his players under the bus.
- 13:12One of the reasons why Peyton Manning decided to go and play
- 13:16for the Broncos was Gary Kubiak. Gary Kubiak was a guy that was a
- 13:21structural type of offensive mind, and if you look at guys
- 13:25like Sean Payton or Andy Reid, Gary Kubiak is that kind of
- 13:30offensive coordinator. One thing that Gary Kubiak was
- 13:33most known for is his running game.
- 13:35His running games were elite. Every time he coached, even with
- 13:39the Broncos, he always had a good running game and I think
- 13:42that's something that Clint Kubiak had this year with Walker
- 13:46Charbonnay. These two guys were in elite
- 13:49tandem. Now Vegas, we've interviewed one
- 13:51of them, Chris Collier. He's a third string running back
- 13:55and we'll see if he has a lot of he gets a chance to play this
- 13:57year with the Raiders if he makes the team and I, I think he
- 14:00will. And I love Chris Collier, so I
- 14:02wish him nothing but the best. But you have a guy like Gente,
- 14:05prolific offensive target and a guy that you can use in many
- 14:08different ways in his style of offense that a guy like Kubiak
- 14:12is going to use. And I don't know if most will
- 14:14come back. He was a veteran guy that helped
- 14:16in the locker room and helped him in this running backroom.
- 14:19I think when you look at the position that the Vegas Raiders
- 14:23are in, they got the number one pick they needed to bring an
- 14:26offensive mind in. Mendoza is going to be #1 you
- 14:30heard it from Chris, Chris Collier last week.
- 14:33He didn't want to say it. He's not the GM, he's not the
- 14:35coach, so he's not going to say it.
- 14:37But everybody over there in Raiderville knows where they're
- 14:40going. They're going with Fernando
- 14:42Mendoza. He will be the number one pick
- 14:44in this year's coming draft and you have to bring in an
- 14:47offensive minded coach, a young offensive mind that can develop
- 14:51a guy like Mendoza. Everywhere Mendoza went, it took
- 14:54time for him to develop. Even in college he went to Cal
- 14:59and he jumped ship from one team to another before he he got a
- 15:03chance to go to Indiana and and actually be coached by a genius
- 15:07of an offensive mind and defensive mind and a coach of
- 15:10the year as he always has been over the last two seasons in a
- 15:14row. You need a competent guy that is
- 15:16going to be able to coach a young quarterback and Clint
- 15:19Kubiak proved that this year. Sam Donald had a great year last
- 15:23year in Minnesota but fell short in the playoffs, didn't play
- 15:26well in the playoffs, and even this year there was ups and
- 15:29downs against the Rams. But when the game was important
- 15:33and Sam needed to make plays, Clint Kobiak put him in the best
- 15:36position to succeed. And I think that the one thing
- 15:39the Raiders have had problems with over the years is putting
- 15:42the right coach in the right position with the right players
- 15:45to succeed. When they brought in Josh
- 15:48McDaniels, Josh McDaniels was a great offensive mind, a guy that
- 15:52helped the Patriots win multiple Super Bowls.
- 15:55He was the backbone of Bill Belichick's offense.
- 15:59When he went over there to the Raiders, he had a chance to take
- 16:00the Indianapolis Colts job. He turned that down to go back
- 16:05to the Patriots to eventually take Las Vegas's position
- 16:08because he had more Paul, more opportunity to succeed after
- 16:11John Krooner got fired. And I think that Josh Mcdaniel's
- 16:15time over there with the Raiders was short because of the
- 16:20opportunities that he had to bring in the players that he
- 16:24wanted to fit roles that didn't work over there in Vegas.
- 16:28Vegas is still a new stadium, a new place for football.
- 16:32And I think bringing in a young, competent, unique individual
- 16:36like Clint Kubiak, a guy that is very well respected around the
- 16:40league, John Gruden said. Clint Kubiak is one of the best
- 16:44young offensive minds in the NFL right now.
- 16:46We've heard Sean Payne come out and speak very highly of Clint
- 16:50Kubiak. Sean McVeigh was another one
- 16:52that I I was reading today that said a lot of high praise to
- 16:55Clint Kubiak. Clint Kubiak's been around for a
- 16:58long, long time. Around his father, around his
- 17:00brother. 2 guys that have slow, slowly but surely became names.
- 17:04Gary Kubiak is not coaching anymore.
- 17:06As a matter of fact, I think he was.
- 17:08If it wasn't this year, was he a part of the Seattle Seattle
- 17:11Seahawks? He was a consultant I think,
- 17:13with the Broncos for something. I don't think it was this year,
- 17:16I think it was last year. But Gary Pay, Gary Kubiak, heart
- 17:20issues, health issues, and he decided to step away after, you
- 17:24know, a couple years after he won the Super Bowl with the
- 17:27Broncos. He had health issues in Houston,
- 17:28too. That's why I had to leave there
- 17:29before he went to the Broncos, Yeah.
- 17:30Clint Kubiak is a different personality and an understanding
- 17:33personality that I think bringing him here to a Raiders
- 17:37organization that has a lot of interesting personalities behind
- 17:40the scene like Davis. And even over the years, the
- 17:43different GM's that they've had, the different players that they
- 17:46brought in that haven't worked. I'm interested to see if Crosby
- 17:49is going to ask for a trade sometime this offseason after
- 17:52what they did to get that number one pick and they have no wide
- 17:55receivers. And that that's why I think
- 17:58Clint Kubiak is going. First of all, the Raiders are
- 18:00one of the top three teams when it comes to salaries.
- 18:03I think they're #2 in the league with open opportunities to land
- 18:07free agents and, and now with Clint Kubiak over there and some
- 18:11of the players that have played for him or know him are going to
- 18:14want to come over here to play for Clint Kubiak.
- 18:16One, he's going to give them an opportunity to succeed over
- 18:19there with the Raiders. And two, he's a guy that you can
- 18:22trust as an offensive mind and a leader as we've seen how how
- 18:27good that Seattle locker room has been all season long.
- 18:30It's not all about McDonald. Everybody wants to give Mike
- 18:33McDonald a lot of credit for that.
- 18:35It was his coordinators, every single guy.
- 18:37Well, his whole coaching staff, they have been successful all
- 18:40season long because of the way they've coached these guys up.
- 18:43Look at the talent that they have.
- 18:45Even with the time that you had guys very well respected, guys
- 18:50like Pete Carroll. Pete Carroll is a very well
- 18:52respected coach in the NFL. Successful won a Super Bowl, has
- 18:57won national championships. I, I think the, the
- 19:00understanding was, is that a lot of these players didn't like
- 19:03Pete Carroll at the end of his time over there with Seattle.
- 19:06He had no control over Russell Wilson.
- 19:08He had no control over certain players on the defensive side of
- 19:11the ball as the defensive side and the offensive side could not
- 19:14get along in the locker room. As we heard Richard Sherman come
- 19:17out and say on his podcast that there were a lot of disliked
- 19:21people in that locker room. It's not like that with Mike
- 19:24McDonald. As a matter of fact, when they
- 19:26they won the the conference and they won the NFC, they were
- 19:29dancing and prancing around like they won the Super Bowl and a
- 19:32lot of different teams that watch in San Francisco watching
- 19:36their dancing and prancing. They use that as stuff to to
- 19:39really push them to knock them off.
- 19:41What would what would be the word for that gave him?
- 19:44That boost? I won't even say Boost gave him
- 19:46the confidence to go out there and try to knock them off.
- 19:49But Seattle, to me, the success of Seattle this year was Sam
- 19:53Donald. It it was really redeveloping
- 19:56and really putting him in the position to succeed.
- 19:59And Mike McDonald did the defensive coordinator.
- 20:01So when you go back and you look at what Seattle's offense was
- 20:04this year, which was absolutely unbelievable, one of the top
- 20:07five teams metrically in all statistics offensively, you
- 20:11know, it wasn't because of Mike McDonald was all about Clint
- 20:14Kubiak. And that's why when you sit back
- 20:17and you understand what it takes to win.
- 20:20In the NFL, it takes a lot. It takes everything.
- 20:23It's like this when you're trying to ride a wave.
- 20:26Surfing is one of the hardest things to do.
- 20:29It's one of the hardest thing anybody try to surf.
- 20:31If you have and you haven't, the first thing you learn is balance
- 20:36technique. If you don't have the right
- 20:38balance when you're getting up on the board, you're going to
- 20:40fall right off of it. You have to understand the
- 20:43technique before you get a chance to get on top of that
- 20:48wave and ride it all the way to the end.
- 20:51That's the same thing when it becomes to professional sports,
- 20:53especially football. When you're coaching 53 players
- 20:56in a locker room, you have multiple coaches.
- 20:58You have a quarterback coach, you have an offensive corner,
- 21:00defensive corner lines coach, defensive line coach,
- 21:03quarterback coach. They're all, there's a ton of
- 21:05coaches. There's like 15 coaches on a
- 21:07roster. Everything has to work In Sync
- 21:10with each other for everything to work.
- 21:13And that takes leadership. And Clint Kubiak, to me, because
- 21:17he's been behind and under his father so many years.
- 21:19And learning from his father and his other brother and
- 21:22understanding the game of football has really given you
- 21:26the belief to understand if you're a you're a Vegas Raiders
- 21:30fan, that you're going to hire a competent guy.
- 21:33Tom Brady is a smart man. Now, I don't know if he can run
- 21:35an organization and I don't know how the NFL allows this guy as a
- 21:39broadcaster under Fox with the contract that he has to be able
- 21:44to own a piece of a team and run a team.
- 21:46That was never allowed. As a matter of fact, that was in
- 21:49the rule book that you cannot be like that.
- 21:51You cannot have that stature. But being that he's Tom Brady
- 21:55and he's the greatest, some people say the greatest
- 21:58quarterback of all time, Tom Brady somehow maneuvered around
- 22:02that. And Goodell allows Tom Brady to
- 22:05be a broadcaster slash owner. And I knew that Tom Brady was
- 22:10going to be behind this hire. And the reason why I think that
- 22:15this might work is because Clint Kubiak is a guy that wants to
- 22:21succeed. He doesn't want to be compared
- 22:23to his father or his brother. He wants to go out there, put it
- 22:26all on the line. You saw what Seattle did this
- 22:28year. You saw what he did against the
- 22:30Rams, the play calling, the distinct play calling on.
- 22:33He just completely dominated the line of scrimmage with the
- 22:36running game with Walker. This is going to going to be an
- 22:39opportunity for Clint Kubiak for he's probably going to sign a 5
- 22:42or 6 year deal. It's going to they're Tom Brady
- 22:45and Davis is going to give him a time to to build this team,
- 22:49build this roster to fit his understanding of how this roster
- 22:53is going to play. Yeah, I was mentioning last week
- 22:55when we were talking about Todd Monken going to the Browns.
- 22:57Like, I think certain coaches and offensive coordinators are
- 23:00evolutionary compared to trying to stick with one scheme.
- 23:03And I think somebody like Kubiak who's been around many different
- 23:06teams in a span of five years, 5, five teams in really seven
- 23:10years, basically when he was with Minnesota, the last three
- 23:12years that Mike Zimmer was there and helped Kirk Cousins really
- 23:15grow to that next level. Remember Kirk Cousins had a
- 23:17really bad first year in Minnesota.
- 23:19I remember the bee was mocking me on Facebook for thinking that
- 23:22they were going to miss the playoffs that year.
- 23:23And I said they don't do well in back-to-back years.
- 23:25And Cousins 1st year, there was not a lot around him.
- 23:27They didn't do well. It was year 2.
- 23:28That really was the leap with Minnesota.
- 23:30Then he's worked over there with San Francisco, with Kyle
- 23:32Shanahan, help Sam Darnold at that time grow along with his
- 23:35brother who's still with the 49ers organization and him as a
- 23:39backup in 2023 helped him grow to not play in Minnesota.
- 23:42And then the ultimate pedicle this year in Seattle.
- 23:45And the gate thing you got to give him credit for in Seattle
- 23:47most of all, in addition to Sam Darnold, is the fact that he has
- 23:49all these random receivers, all these random tight ends and made
- 23:53that kind of thing work yet. And Jigboat was great.
- 23:54Yeah, Kenneth Walker was good. But they had all these other
- 23:57role players that helped them in the playoffs to help them beat
- 24:00the Rams, help them destroy the 49ers.
- 24:02That took it to another level. And I think you could you need
- 24:04that kind of thing obviously with the Raiders, because Rock
- 24:07Bowers is going to get attention.
- 24:08If he's healthy. Gent, he's obviously going to
- 24:10get attention. We'll see how well the offensive
- 24:11line plays. That's another story.
- 24:12But you need other guys to step up if you want a good team
- 24:15offense and you want Fernando Mendoza's to develop into an NFL
- 24:18quarterback because there's a lot of questions with, oh, is he
- 24:21really as good as the number one pick prospect as Caleb Williams
- 24:24was as good as even Trevor Lawrence was?
- 24:26Like there's going to be some questions with that kind of
- 24:28thing, especially with the level of receivers which they have,
- 24:30which is not very good. How about all the different
- 24:32quarterbacks they've drafted over the years?
- 24:34I mean, Russell was an absolute debacle.
- 24:36I mean, they've drafted a lot of top end quarterbacks over the
- 24:40years and had a lot of respectable coaches.
- 24:43I mean, John Gruden was probably the most successful coach with
- 24:46the Raiders in the last 15 years.
- 24:48And what happened is they had the fire him because of that
- 24:51whole, that whole e-mail situation with the Washington
- 24:55Commanders and and Rodger Goodell and all these
- 24:58executives, He was the one that got had to be fired.
- 25:00He was the one that was thrown to the wolves.
- 25:02And that's why he won the lawsuit against the NFL.
- 25:05And Jon Gruden, well, I don't know if he'll ever get a job
- 25:08again. I know The Jets were going to
- 25:09probably offer him the offensive coordinator job.
- 25:11But again, Clint Kubiak is a guy that's again, very well
- 25:15respected and and obviously knows the game of football as
- 25:18well as any offensive young coach has really gotten an
- 25:23opportunity over the last couple years.
- 25:24Here's another thing. I, I, I know and I, I haven't
- 25:27spoken about Mike Lafleur yet and I'm going to get a chance to
- 25:29do that. And I, I wanted to split this up
- 25:31because Mike Lafleur, I have my own thoughts too.
- 25:33And I know a little bit about Mike Lafleur because he was the
- 25:36offensive coordinator for the New York Jets.
- 25:38It didn't really he he it didn't really work over there because
- 25:42him and Robert Sala and the organization is especially,
- 25:46especially Joe Douglas, who didn't, he wasn't Joe Douglas
- 25:50his first pick, but it was Robert Salas guy because
- 25:53Lafleur, Matt Lafleur and Robert Sala are very close friends.
- 25:57Robert Sala was his best or part of his wedding party, one of his
- 26:01best men in his wedding and and a guy that and by the way, I
- 26:04don't know if anybody knows this Robert Sala when he got fired by
- 26:06The Jets, where did he go and work?
- 26:08He worked for the Green Bay Packers for a year before he
- 26:10took over for the 49ers as their defensive coordinator.
- 26:14I, I want to finish up with Kubiak because I think there's
- 26:16something to be said about Clint Kubiak that a lot of people
- 26:19don't understand. Everybody and, and a lot of
- 26:22these kids that want to be a coach or be a player, they want
- 26:27to, they want to go, they want to ride into their father's
- 26:29footsteps. I mean, Noah, Noah Eagle, his
- 26:33father is Eye and Eagle and Eye and Eagle has been a successful
- 26:37broadcaster and one of the best voices for the CBS Sports and
- 26:40basketball and ESPN and, and Nets basketball.
- 26:44This guy has been very successful.
- 26:45So what did Noah do? He went into broadcasting and
- 26:47wanted to be just like his father.
- 26:49And after he after he graduated from Syracuse, he got an
- 26:53opportunity to work for the Clippers.
- 26:55And now he's he working for CBS Sports and he's getting the
- 26:58opportunity. Everybody's going to give
- 27:00Clinton Kubiak that. Oh, well, your father's Gary
- 27:04Kubiak. That's why you're getting an
- 27:05opportunity like this. And a lot of people going to
- 27:07look at that and say, well, how do you jump after five years or
- 27:11not even five years, four years to become a head coach for a
- 27:15National Football team? And it's very simple to
- 27:17understand here. When you are around football
- 27:20your whole life, you eat, sleep, crap football your whole life
- 27:26and your father is teaching you as a youngster, even as a
- 27:29football player, what the XS and OS what what it is to display
- 27:33and understand the what you're seeing on film.
- 27:37It is not as easy as well. My father's Gary Kubiak and
- 27:40that's why I got a job. It takes time, it takes work, it
- 27:44takes discipline and I give a lot of credit to the Kubiak
- 27:48brothers and and what they've done to earn the right to
- 27:51eventually be a coach in the NFL.
- 27:53It again, it it's not something that there are there are minimum
- 27:57amount of teams in the NFL. There's 32 teams in the NFL.
- 28:00Not everybody gets a coaching job.
- 28:02A lot of these coordinators might never get a coaching job,
- 28:04maybe because they're not distinct enough.
- 28:06They don't have the personality enough.
- 28:08When I look at Clint Kubiak and his brother, and I've seen a lot
- 28:11of father and sons that have eventually, you know, obviously
- 28:15Bill Belichick, his his father was a head coach for the, for
- 28:18North, for the North Carolina Tar Heels years and years ago.
- 28:21His no, his father never coached in the NFL.
- 28:24But what did Bill Belichick wanted to do?
- 28:26He wanted to coach professional football.
- 28:30So we worked under Bill Parcells, learned under Bill
- 28:32Parcells and eventually got a chance to coach the Browns.
- 28:35And then eventually that didn't work.
- 28:36They went back to the Giants, won a couple more, won another
- 28:39Super Bowl and then got a chance with The Jets.
- 28:42We're going to The Jets with Bill Parcells.
- 28:44Parcells gave him a job. It didn't work, 24 hours, he
- 28:47goes to the Patriots and there she blows.
- 28:49And, and we all know the back end of Bill Belichick's career
- 28:52and his accomplishments. I'm not saying Clint Kubiak is
- 28:55going to win a Super Bowl. I'm not going to say that Clint
- 28:58Kubiak is going to succeed over there with the Raiders.
- 29:00Because usually when you look at statistics and you look at
- 29:03understanding of analytics, that the Raiders have not been a good
- 29:06organization since the 80s. So this is not an organization
- 29:10that succeeds. But when you put the right guy
- 29:12in place, as Seattle did with Mike McDonald, as we see Mike
- 29:16Frabel over there with the Patriots, and we've seen, look
- 29:19at the Texans and and the opportunity they've had over the
- 29:22last couple of years with their coaching staff, if you put the
- 29:24right guy in place, you will succeed.
- 29:27Quickly, before you go fish, I just want to mention that I
- 29:29think the Raiders trends are a little different than some of
- 29:31the other teams. We'll talk about we'll talk
- 29:32about the Cardinals in a bit. They haven't hired a coach with
- 29:35experience since O 4. Miami, we talked about last
- 29:37week, has an hired a coach as well for I think since the
- 29:39beginning of the decade. And now all of a sudden they're
- 29:42going with a different direction now Josh McDaniels, an
- 29:44unconventional one. Jon Gruden, obviously they took
- 29:46a, they took a chance on giving him that amount of, but they
- 29:49took a. Chance they were they were
- 29:51accomplished and and if you look at their success when he was
- 29:54there, they were very successful.
- 29:56Oh, I know. So took a chance.
- 29:58Well, no. Forgive him $100 million in the
- 30:00GM position. The Giants just gave John
- 30:02Harbaugh $100 million. And if you look at John Harbaugh
- 30:05in the last two years, they he hasn't been accomplished.
- 30:09He hasn't done well ever since Mike McDonald left as these
- 30:13defensive coordinator. They take over Seattle.
- 30:15What has John Harbold done? Well, nothing I'm talking about
- 30:17from the perspective of giving me the GM contract too at the
- 30:20same time because we've seen a lot of coaches outside.
- 30:21You've got to pay if you want a good coach, you want to get a
- 30:24coach in place, especially a veteran coach.
- 30:26You got to pay him because he's not going to take a job,
- 30:28especially a job where, you know, there's been a lot of
- 30:31backlash. But the Raiders have also had
- 30:32the reputation going the other way.
- 30:33Because they haven't hired A flashy rookie coach because they
- 30:37had a Vegas, You think you would have a Vegas vibes there to be
- 30:39able to do that kind of thing and get a good coach there.
- 30:41But they haven't done that either.
- 30:43And this is the best one combination of that, too.
- 30:45But at the same time, we have to see how he works with the
- 30:47players because you're right, the Raiders organization has a
- 30:49bad record of treating their players.
- 30:50Remember we talked about it when Josh McDaniels was there, that
- 30:53whole situation with Chandler Jones when he came up to his
- 30:56house and like, like arrested him for something, like accused
- 30:59him of something and it didn't happen.
- 31:00Now you're talking about Max Crosby and Derek Carr, their
- 31:03best quarterback they mistreated and he didn't want to stay there
- 31:05anymore with Josh McDaniels. This is the Tom Brady effect,
- 31:08though. Tom Brady knows what a young
- 31:10quarterback needs, and it's going to be Fernando Mendoza.
- 31:14So what do you want to get a guy like that?
- 31:16You want to get a run game. You want to get him an offense
- 31:20that lets you play run first and play play action off of the run.
- 31:24That's the staple of the Gary Kubiak offense, the Mike
- 31:27Shanahan offense dating back to the 49ers in the early 90s with
- 31:31the timing patterns of the West Coast.
- 31:34Clint Kubiak, all he does is kind of run versions of the the
- 31:40current Kyle Shanahan offense with all the motions, all the
- 31:43three by one sets the deep shots.
- 31:46But he is also still trying to run the zone plays at the same
- 31:49time. So he comes out the personnel
- 31:52where speedy. You see a lot of multiple tight
- 31:53end sets. You see these different kind of
- 31:56backfields from Seattle, you're seeing from other teams, but
- 32:00you're also getting all the motions you see from all the
- 32:02other teams. And it's a new type of offense
- 32:04and you should get the job with a team if there's 10 openings,
- 32:09if you are the coach of the offense of the team who is the
- 32:12favorite heading into the Super Bowl?
- 32:13He deserves this shot. He absolutely doesn't.
- 32:16Tom Brady Smart. Give the quarterback a coach.
- 32:19Is hold on, hold on. We don't know what Tom Brady is
- 32:22yet as an owner. I mean, obviously he's going to
- 32:24get an. Opportunity to Michigan.
- 32:26He's smart, you know. We know that.
- 32:27Well, he's, he's smart enough to be one of the elite quarterbacks
- 32:31we've seen in of all time. I mean, there's only one
- 32:34quarterback that I would take over him right now and that's
- 32:37Joe Montana. And, and there's reasons why I
- 32:39would take Joe Montana over Tom Brady.
- 32:41Some people would argue with me, but that's fine.
- 32:43Some people would take Peyton Manning, even though Peyton
- 32:45Manning hasn't been accomplished over there in the playoffs.
- 32:48Nevertheless, Tom Brady is a guy that understands the quarterback
- 32:52position and and obviously Mendoza is the guy that he
- 32:56believes is going to take this team and he's going to drive
- 32:58them. So and I and there's no question
- 33:00that Mendoza could be successful.
- 33:02We've seen what he's done everywhere.
- 33:03He's jumped from high school to to pee wee football pee wee to
- 33:07high school to now the college football winning a national
- 33:11championship, being a Heisman Trophy winner and now getting a
- 33:14chance to play as a number one pick.
- 33:16And no, but I, I'm sure Mendoza, if you ask Mendoza today or
- 33:20yesterday I was at the Heisman dinner.
- 33:22No, I don't think Mando's ever thought in his wildest dreams he
- 33:25would be a Heisman Trophy winner.
- 33:27So he is an accomplished quarterback and and now an
- 33:31organization that's going to be looking for a guy that that's
- 33:33going to be able to steer them to possibly a Super Bowl
- 33:36championship. So as far as the Mike Lafleur
- 33:38story, Mike Lafleur is a guy that has been coaching behind
- 33:42Sean McVeigh for the last couple of years.
- 33:44Yes, he is considered the offensive coordinator for the
- 33:47Rams, but the guy that was calling the plays was Sean
- 33:49McVeigh. I don't care what anybody says,
- 33:51Sean McVeigh is the mastermind of that offensive side of the
- 33:54ball. That's why the Rams were the
- 33:55best offensive team in the NFL this year and and what the
- 33:58weapons they have. Nobody wanted that Arizona
- 34:01Cardinals job. Nobody.
- 34:04Kyla Murray is not going to be there next year, no matter who
- 34:07the head coaches. There's no way Mike Lafleur is
- 34:09going to be able to control this guy because he talks in a third
- 34:11person more than anybody I've ever seen.
- 34:13And Mike Lafleur has not been very good with quarterbacks in
- 34:17the past, as we remember with the New York Jets.
- 34:21Here's the facts, and I don't know if anybody knows this.
- 34:24Sam Darnold was the starting quarterback of the New York Jets
- 34:28when Robert Sala and Joe Douglas were there.
- 34:32Both Robert Sala, Mike Lafleur and Joe Douglas decided that Sam
- 34:37Donald wasn't a competent quarterback and wasn't going to
- 34:40be successful as a starting quarterback in the NFL.
- 34:43So they decided to move him for a second and fourth.
- 34:45Yes, Mike Lafleur had a big part of that.
- 34:47Also, Mike Lafleur had a big part on bringing in Zach Wilson.
- 34:53He went to the bowl, Three of those guys went to his pro day,
- 34:57watched him throw and said, oh, the oohs and the ahs throwing on
- 35:00his back foot. The the, the running, you know,
- 35:04running and throwing in the ability that Zach Wilson, the
- 35:06accuracy that Zach Wilson had after playing and and obviously
- 35:10starting for BYU, he failed. Mike Lafleur failed and he was
- 35:17calling the place. It wasn't Robert Saleh.
- 35:18He was calling the plays over there with the New York Jets.
- 35:22The Jets were one of the worst offensive teams, if not the
- 35:24worst offensive team. I think they were ranked 31st in
- 35:28offense when he was there for the 2 1/2 years that he was
- 35:31there. It was only when he went to Sean
- 35:35McVay and coached under him where that success became an
- 35:39opportunity for him to eventually get this coaching
- 35:42job. Nobody wanted that Cardinals
- 35:44job. Nobody.
- 35:46I guarantee you, and I don't know how, I don't know the
- 35:48number of how many coaches they interviewed, but what I've heard
- 35:51there were two coaches that went for one interview and it would
- 35:54call back and they didn't want to go over there for the second
- 35:57interview. They rather go and become a
- 36:00wanted to stay as a defensive coordinator and sign a contract
- 36:02as a defensive coordinator. I heard that Brian Flores got
- 36:05offered the job. He didn't want it.
- 36:07That's why he signed the contract for for another year
- 36:10under and he's the highest paid defensive coordinator right now
- 36:13in the NFL under in Minnesota. He didn't want the job.
- 36:18And here's the thing, I don't know if Brian Flores will ever
- 36:21get a job for the what happened over there with the Miami
- 36:23Dolphins. I don't know because he's
- 36:25interviewed for plenty of jobs and we've seen guys from Kansas
- 36:29City and you know what I'm talking about interview Eric be
- 36:33enemy be enemy. He is interviewed for multiple
- 36:36jobs. I think you interviewed like
- 36:371718 times and went from multiple second interviews and
- 36:41never got the job. And Eric be enemy now is back
- 36:43with Kansas City as a, I don't know, an offensive coach on the
- 36:47side. He's not the offensive
- 36:48coordinator, He's under Matt Nagy.
- 36:50Mike Lafleur was the only one, the only crazy one that would
- 36:53take this job. Now, here's the thing.
- 36:55The Arizona Cardinals have a very good roster.
- 36:58They don't have a quarterback, but their defense was elite this
- 37:01year. This was one of the top 12
- 37:03defenses in the NFL. They have a competent running
- 37:06back. I don't know if Connor's coming
- 37:07back next year, but he's a competent, Yeah.
- 37:09They gave him an extension. He'll be on the roster, but how
- 37:11healthy is he? Marvin Harrison junior is is
- 37:14still hasn't really developed into the star that his father
- 37:17was, but still has a tremendous amount of time to become that.
- 37:20He's only 21 years old, 22 years old.
- 37:22He's got a lot of time. They have McBride, who's
- 37:25probably the best tight end in the NFL.
- 37:28They have weapons and their offensive line actually played
- 37:32well this year at some parts of the season.
- 37:36So Michael Ford, I understand why a lot of people don't want
- 37:38to coach over there because of ownership, because of all the
- 37:42backlash that we've seen over the last couple years with the
- 37:45Arizona team. Kyler Murray is another guy that
- 37:48a lot of coaches don't want to take responsibility for ever
- 37:52since Kingsbury has left. And here's the thing.
- 37:58A guy like Kingsbury who had a chance to cut to draft not one
- 38:03but two quarterbacks in the top three, he had a top quarterback
- 38:08decided to part ways with him to bring in a guy like Kyler
- 38:12Murray. And Kyler Murray had one good
- 38:14season, and me and Speedy were very high on him.
- 38:16I remember. He was just funny.
- 38:18I wasn't out of that draft, but I was impressed with him in Year
- 38:201. You were high on him.
- 38:22You were high on him, and so was I Josh Silverberg wasn't.
- 38:25No lower than us. Yes, death.
- 38:27He didn't like him, no, and he was right.
- 38:29Josh was right about him. That this guy does not work good
- 38:33with others. This guy is a cocky SOB, goes
- 38:37out there, likes to talk for himself, doesn't stick up for
- 38:40his teammates. This reminds me of Russell
- 38:42Wilson. Now you're hearing stories with
- 38:45obviously Kyler Murray. Maybe The Jets interested.
- 38:48The Jets need to stay far, far away from Kyler Murray.
- 38:50And when you're bringing in a new offensive head coach, you
- 38:54want to get that guy out of that locker room.
- 38:56You do not want to deal with Kyler Murray.
- 38:59And I, I think that was the problem because I still think
- 39:01ownership might believe in Kyler Murray.
- 39:05And now you got to go into your first season with Kyler Murray
- 39:08as your head, as your, your starting quarterback, your
- 39:10number one. I, I don't know how that's going
- 39:12to work. And Mike Lafleur over the like I
- 39:15said, the time that I saw him with The Jets, he didn't work
- 39:18well with quarterbacks. Zach Wilson and him didn't
- 39:22click. And then they Robert Soller
- 39:25thought, hey, get rid of Mike Lafleur.
- 39:26I'm going to bring in somebody else.
- 39:28Maybe that will help. Zach Wilson.
- 39:29He didn't. It made it worse.
- 39:32And again, that was Mike Lafleur's pick.
- 39:34He wanted Zach Wilson. They could have drafted Justin
- 39:37Fields. Obviously Justin Fields didn't
- 39:38work because he was there with The Jets this year.
- 39:41But who knows? Maybe if he went in the right,
- 39:43right place and he wasn't working under Everfloose the
- 39:46time that he was with Chicago, maybe Justin Fields is
- 39:48successful. But here's the fact here.
- 39:53The only reason why Mike Lafleur got is getting this offer, the
- 39:56only reason why he's going to get this position is because
- 39:59nobody in the NFL wanted it. And that is a fact.
- 40:03So anybody I feel bad for the Arizona Cardinals because maybe
- 40:07I'm wrong. Maybe this guy is is going to
- 40:09change his ways. Maybe being under Sean McVay for
- 40:13the little bit of time that he was for the last couple of years
- 40:16and getting a chance to work under an offensive genius, even
- 40:18though it doesn't shut the hell up, maybe that changed.
- 40:22His way of thinking as as an offensive Miners, as an
- 40:25offensive coach, but only time will tell.
- 40:28But what I've seen as a New York Jet fan, it it's alarming to me
- 40:33when they still don't have the one position that a lot of these
- 40:37teams that have been unsuccessful over the last
- 40:39couple years, Arizona being one of them has not accomplished.
- 40:42And that is a quarterback. And that that to me is a big
- 40:46problem. And Arizona does not have a
- 40:50chance to draft a quarterback in this class.
- 40:52This is not a good class for quarterbacks.
- 40:54So Arizona's going to have to wait a year to bring in a young
- 40:58quarterback, which next year's quarterback class is going to be
- 41:01loaded. You have Sellers, you have
- 41:03Manning and, and I, I would probably bet my bottom dollar
- 41:06Arizona will try to lose out every single game this offseat
- 41:10this season. So they can get that number one
- 41:12pick to Lana Manning. And will Arch Manning or Archie
- 41:15Manning, a grandfather of Arch Manning, ever let his his
- 41:20grandson go and play for the Arizona Cardinals?
- 41:22Because we all know Peyton Manning could have been a Jet
- 41:25the year that he became available to go into the NFL
- 41:28draft. And what did he decide to do?
- 41:29He decided to go back to Tennessee as a senior because
- 41:32Archie Manning did not want him to play for The Jets.
- 41:35And that's why The Jets drafted Keyshawn Johnson.
- 41:37It's always interesting with Lafleur.
- 41:38I've always been under the impression that in this hiring
- 41:41cycle, I don't think he was ever as bad as he was when he showed
- 41:44it with The Jets. I also don't think he's as good
- 41:46as he showed on the Rams. I think he's kind of somewhere
- 41:48in between now. I was talking in the in the
- 41:50private chat. Is a tweener.
- 41:51Is that what you're? Kind of.
- 41:52And I was talking the private chat last week with some of our
- 41:55interns when the Steelers hired Mike, we were talking Steelers
- 41:57hiring Mike McCarthy and a lot of them wanted a lot of those
- 41:59guys from that Sean McVey coaching tree, which I've said
- 42:01has mostly been a net negative. Now, what's interesting is Kevin
- 42:04O'Connell, and I don't think Zach Taylor's great, but I think
- 42:07he's competent, are decent coaches that are coming from
- 42:10this McVeigh tree. And that's the offensive side of
- 42:11the tree. It's the defensive side of the
- 42:13tree that hasn't been as good with Brady Morris, obviously,
- 42:15who just got fired, and Brandon Staley, who was awful with the
- 42:18LA Chargers. So where does Mike Lafleur fall
- 42:21into that? More on the offensive side?
- 42:23First of all, just so you know, O'Connell, all those guys are
- 42:28under the Shanahan tree. Just so you know, I don't think
- 42:31you understand from Mike Shanahan and Kyle Shanahan.
- 42:35That's where Sean McVeigh came from.
- 42:37That's where O'Connell came from.
- 42:39That's where Mike McDaniel came from.
- 42:41So you keep saying it's the Sean McVeigh tree.
- 42:43It's not the Sean McVeigh. The one that's the Sean McVeigh
- 42:46tree is my is Michael 4. He is under the Sean McVeigh
- 42:49tree. But the guys that you're
- 42:51mentioning that is not that is not the Sean McVeigh tree.
- 42:55So I don't know where you're coming up, but oh, this is part
- 42:57of the Sean McVeigh tree because Sean McVeigh was under the.
- 43:00The entry, OK, well, the entry is a little bigger than just
- 43:03McVeigh, so I was just more specifying it down.
- 43:05But when I look at, yeah, bigger coaches getting the opportunity
- 43:08somewhere else, yeah, Brian Flores and yeah, them turning
- 43:12him down, he definitely shows a reputation with the ownership
- 43:13that I didn't think it really had.
- 43:15I agree. The roster is pretty good.
- 43:16I think the offensive line was a lot better than I expected this
- 43:18year. Paris Johnson I did not think
- 43:20was going to be as good of a tackle as he was.
- 43:22He looked pretty good. Trey McBride, like you said,
- 43:23best tight end in football, even though Harrison hasn't
- 43:25developed, you got Michael Wilson who's a pretty good
- 43:27receiver. Question will come with the
- 43:29quarterback. They'll probably get some
- 43:30journeyman in the trade or something like that for this
- 43:32year because I I think they're going to cut Kyler Murray at
- 43:34this point. The defense will see if it still
- 43:36plays as well with a scheme fit and will it get a actually good
- 43:38defensive coordinator will be another question because you're
- 43:40right. They had a lot of defensive mind
- 43:42head coaches that turned them down, including Chris Shula.
- 43:44And funny enough, they actually interviewed Roy Morrison would
- 43:47have interviewed Robert Solef the.
- 43:49Kevin says that he thinks that they should go with Brissett
- 43:53this coming year instead of Kyla Murray.
- 43:55And that's a good take, Kevin. But here's the thing.
- 43:58Brissett is a free agent and there are other teams right now
- 44:01looking for a starting quarterback.
- 44:03As you said, as we've been saying, the New York Jets, they
- 44:06don't have a quarterback in place.
- 44:07They need to bring in a veteran guy.
- 44:09They're not drafting a quarterback in this class.
- 44:11And even if they do, it'll be probably a third or maybe even a
- 44:14fifth round draft pick where they're going to have to sit him
- 44:17for practically half of the season with a veteran
- 44:20quarterback. And that's why Jacoby percent is
- 44:22going to get money. A lot of these veteran
- 44:24quarterbacks. I I've been saying Davis, what
- 44:26Davis Mills is a guy I would go after if I'm The Jets or I'm any
- 44:30one of these teams. He is.
- 44:32I think this is Year 5 for him. He is a free agent.
- 44:35That's the guy I'm going after if I'm AGM right now of an
- 44:39organization. I've seen enough of Mills that
- 44:41he can be an accomplished quarterback in this league and
- 44:44maybe if he goes to a team, maybe gets a chance like Sam
- 44:47Donald to accomplish his his his opportunity to be a starting
- 44:50quarterback and maybe he changes his ways and and maybe becomes
- 44:54that that quarterback that a lot.
- 44:55I believe he could be in the NFLI wouldn't say elite, but if
- 44:59he's a top ten quarterback and you can win with that, if even
- 45:01if he's a top 15 quarterback, you can win that win with that.
- 45:04And I think Davis Mills can absolutely be a top 15
- 45:08quarterback in the NFL. Yeah, it's going to be up to
- 45:10Lafleur to get the other guys going first because they're not
- 45:13going to be able to draft a quarterback this year.
- 45:15I wouldn't even take a flyer on the second or third round.
- 45:17I think the Cardinals still need enough where I think you're
- 45:19looking at them just building up maybe the pass rush, building up
- 45:22the receiving depth a little more.
- 45:23I think the running backs, there's enough young ones on
- 45:26their roster to try to figure out.
- 45:27They just have to stay healthy. And I just think you get a
- 45:29quarterback after that. Again, I think it's a middle
- 45:32tier higher. I don't love it.
- 45:33Don't hate it either way, but I hate it.
- 45:35Yeah. I'm not going to say it's as
- 45:36long as you. Say you don't love it or don't
- 45:38hate it. It's it's terrible.
- 45:39The Cardinals were reaching on this.
- 45:42I don't think the Kubiak thing was I, I do not believe the Las
- 45:45Vegas Raiders were reaching on Kubiak if he wasn't their number
- 45:49one guy, but I'm sure he was in their top three.
- 45:52So the Raiders are still getting a top three type of guy that was
- 45:56on their list. The Cardinals interviewed like
- 45:5810 guys and asked for two guys to come back for second
- 46:01interviews and they didn't want to.
- 46:03Brian Flores decided to go back to Minnesota, take more money as
- 46:08a defensive coordinator because he didn't want that job.
- 46:10He had no interest in taking that job.
- 46:12That says a lot about where Mike Lafleur is going and what kind
- 46:16of organization he's going to say whatever you want.
- 46:19Speed you don't like, you don't hate it.
- 46:20But hey, you didn't like the Robert Sala move.
- 46:23But everybody, everybody and their mother, Bleacher Report,
- 46:25Yahoo Sports gave him an A minus, gave Tennessee an A
- 46:29minus. OK, you say what you say.
- 46:31You don't like it, You don't hate it.
- 46:33You're going to tell me that Robert Sala is not better than
- 46:35Mike Lafleur? Come on.
- 46:37He already. Fails that and.
- 46:38What do you think Michael Ford's going to do over there with the
- 46:41Cardinals? He's got no quarterback.
- 46:43He has no position in play over there.
- 46:45What's he taking over? He's taking a good roster over
- 46:47with a lot of good young players, but with a lot of good
- 46:50young players. Can he coach up because he
- 46:53couldn't coach Zach Wilson? As a matter of fact, what pissed
- 46:56me off about Michael Ford more than anything as a New York Jet
- 46:59fan is he never was on the bench.
- 47:01He was up in the press box calling the plays.
- 47:04It was only his final year with the last five games of the
- 47:07season where he was on the field talking to the quarterback.
- 47:10You're going to pick that as your head coach, a guy that
- 47:14didn't want to be with your quarterback, the guy that chose
- 47:16that quarterback to be his guy and part ways with a quarterback
- 47:20that's now in a Super Bowl. Oh, you don't like it, you don't
- 47:23hate it. That shows you that I would not
- 47:25pick you as a guy that's going to pick my roster, speedy or a
- 47:29guy that's going to pick my coach.
- 47:30You can never be a GM in this league.
- 47:32If you're going to tell me you don't like it, you don't hate
- 47:34it. I absolutely hate it.
- 47:36It's a horrible move. Arizona's going to fail and
- 47:39you're going to have all these guys, McBride, you're going to
- 47:41have Marvin Harrison junior. They're going to ask their way
- 47:43out of there because they're not going to want to be coached by
- 47:45this kid. And he is going to sign at least
- 47:48a five year deal, at least a five year deal, because he knows
- 47:51that this roster and whoever they bring in this year, we're
- 47:53going to have to wait until next year to bring in the quarterback
- 47:56that of of his choosing because this class is not good.
- 47:59What's he going to bring Carson back?
- 48:01Do you think that Mike Lafleur can control Carson back after he
- 48:04couldn't control Zach Wilson? Zach Wilson was an incompetent
- 48:08idiot and you're going to tell me, well, I don't like it, I
- 48:11don't hate it. I hate it.
- 48:13And it for you to sit there as a football guy and an analytic
- 48:17guy, you should know what he did as an offensive coordinator with
- 48:21the New York Jets and you know, as a football person that
- 48:24watches the Rams, Do you think for one second he was calling
- 48:27the place yes or no, yes or no? I said yes or no, yes or no.
- 48:33Stop with this. That's not what I'm asking you.
- 48:35I want to hear a yes or no question because this is no, he
- 48:38wasn't calling the place. Alright, alright, that's it.
- 48:40No. So how do you think and why do
- 48:43you think that this is not a good or a bad hire?
- 48:46Again, I don't think I don't think his extremes would make.
- 48:48No sense. All right?
- 48:50I don't want to hear anymore from you, fish.
- 48:52I want to hear your take on it. I don't want to hear anymore
- 48:54because you're going around, you're beating around the Bush.
- 48:56It doesn't make any sense. You don't like it.
- 48:58You don't hate it. But you you don't like the
- 49:00Robert Solo hire. It's terrible.
- 49:02OK, so here, here, here. Here's my F Mike Lafleur is an
- 49:05FFF. Because if you don't like Robert
- 49:08Solo, you definitely shouldn't like Mike Lafleur.
- 49:10I think I'd rather have solo before I.
- 49:12Absolutely. I think it's kind of easy to
- 49:15make that pick and I think the Cardinals ended up picking them
- 49:18because, like you said, they were the last guys to pick and
- 49:22he was the what they thought was the cheapest, best alternative
- 49:26to what they could get. He doesn't call plays.
- 49:29He's an offensive coordinator. I still don't really understand
- 49:32what that means. I like it as like, I guess he's
- 49:36the one that's running the meetings.
- 49:37He's the one doing the exes and others.
- 49:39But McVeigh is calling the plays in the day and doing the
- 49:41day-to-day under pressure during the game type of stuff.
- 49:45I mean, he's helping McVeigh, but it's not like he's the one
- 49:48doing it now. Is he really great at XS and OS?
- 49:51Yeah, He's from the the school of all those guys.
- 49:53If he hires a good a good offensive coordinator that he
- 49:56knows can call plays, maybe he's successful, but I would say it's
- 50:01probably not going to happen. I wanted to, to speedy, you
- 50:05know, I think it's important to think of where these guys come
- 50:08from. So they're all from the
- 50:10Shanahan. Both of these guys are
- 50:11technically Shanahan, all of them tree guys like Kubiak,
- 50:15right? Cuz Kubiak, you know, like
- 50:16Kubiak and Mike Shanahan, we're coaching together.
- 50:18So I, I like to look at like how they rose up.
- 50:22And you mentioned Bill Belichick before.
- 50:23He didn't start with Parcells. He started as an assistant
- 50:28getting paid no money just because his dad had a connection
- 50:32with Ted Marchibrota of the 70s Colts.
- 50:35I had this book that I read a long ago and I was always amazed
- 50:37by he just wanted a foot in the door and he just started
- 50:40coaching. And then they couldn't get rid
- 50:42of the guy because he was too good.
- 50:44And, and then he just went from one job to the next.
- 50:47He didn't have a rabbi really in the NFL.
- 50:50He didn't have somebody that could, you know, like, like
- 50:53shelter him to the next place, like a Shanahan tree, like a
- 50:56McVeigh tree to take care of him.
- 50:58I look at Kubiak. He could have done what Lefleur
- 51:02did and stay with Shanahan guys his whole career because that's
- 51:04what Lefleur did. He's only ever been with
- 51:07Shanahan guys. That includes Salah when he was
- 51:09there. That's a Shanahan guy too,
- 51:11technically not really offensively, but still a
- 51:13Shanahan guy. Look at Kubiak started in
- 51:17Denver, but he went to the Vikings, he's gone.
- 51:19He went, he went to the he's done stuff on his own.
- 51:21He's been like 5 team speedy in the last five years, something
- 51:24like that. And he's learned from every
- 51:26include Shanahan. So he stopped there too.
- 51:29And he ran the offense for Shanahan as like the guy you
- 51:32know, behind Shanahan. So he's had that role a couple
- 51:35of years before. Now Lafleur is getting that job
- 51:39like 3 years ahead of like Kubiak's schedule.
- 51:42I I just don't see that. We've seen what Lafleur does,
- 51:46what he did when he was calling the place for The Jets.
- 51:48It just wasn't good enough. So I don't even think it's
- 51:51particularly close. The only thing I'd worry about
- 51:53as a Cardinals fan is, you know, there's always one team that
- 51:57does it. Arrow.
- 51:58They reach for the quarterback that shouldn't be drafted here.
- 52:01If there's not enough quarterbacks in the draft in the
- 52:03first round and if Ty Simpson really has a good workout, I
- 52:09would be really afraid. If they do something stupid and
- 52:12take them up high because they want a quarterback, this is the
- 52:16the program that would do something like that, and that's
- 52:19what I'd be afraid of. I'd like to thank everybody that
- 52:22listens to our show, all the fans on Spotify and Apple video
- 52:26and audio, all the fans 107th we were ranked at I think on

- 52:50I'm like, dude, you're not going to make it to the show.
- 52:52He's like, I'm going to try to make it.
- 52:54I knew he wasn't going to make it and he's probably listen to
- 52:57the show right now. So hopefully we got Jabba for
- 53:00the whole show on Thursday. But yeah, thank you to all the
- 53:03TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, all the fans on those platforms,
- 53:08YouTube, Jabba in the mouth. We really appreciate all you

- 53:15champion 8:45 will be joining us, former New York Giants tight
- 53:18end Howard Cross. Oh, that's right, That's right.
- 53:21Nathan was the one that scooped him up.
- 53:23Yes, he was one of the better goal line defenders of all time,
- 53:27right? No, that was Gary Reasons.
- 53:29He'll be out in a. Few.
- 53:30Oh, that's right. That's right.
- 53:31Howard Cross. I'm trying to remember Howard
- 53:33Cross. I don't.
- 53:34Remember the tight end shock? He's back up.
- 53:39Now I remember him because I I did, I was an executive producer
- 53:43for Imani Tumor. So Imani Tumor used to tell me a
- 53:46lot of different stories about those teams before the Super
- 53:49Bowl championship. He did all The Dirty work while
- 53:52Shocky got to line up and go out for passes.
- 53:54Cross was a great blocker and he caught some passes too.
- 53:57He was a good, halfway decent athlete.
- 53:59All right, All right. Howard Cross will be joining us.
- 54:02So very interesting. Thank you again to all the fans.
- 54:05We'll be back on Thursday. Yes, Jabba will be here on
- 54:08Thursday. Better be I'll smack up silly.
- 54:11I got a chance to meet him on Saturday.
- 54:12So that was interesting both of us together.
- 54:15It's like I knew him for years. It really is.
- 54:18And he he I got to give a shout out to Jabba.
- 54:20He was very kind to my friends, very cool to my friends and try
- 54:23to pick on my size at which you're only four inches bigger
- 54:27than me. Buddy.
- 54:27Stop bragging about it. When I steal a base against you,
- 54:30then you can you can start kissing my ass.
- 54:34I love you anyways. Goodnight.
- 54:35Farewell. It is the worldwide sports radio
- 54:39network.
