- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello, friends. Welcome to the Seed Pod for Kids. Thank
- 0:09Speaker 1: you for joining me today as we spend time with
- 0:13Speaker 1: our friend Jesus. Spending time with Jesus is the best
- 0:17Speaker 1: way to start your day. Let's begin our time together
- 0:21Speaker 1: praising Him.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Have you ever grown a garden or maybe even just
- 0:28Speaker 2: a pot on your porch for a tomato plant or
- 0:31Speaker 2: some peppers? It's fun to grow a garden, plant the seeds,
- 0:35Speaker 2: Watch the little seedlings pop up out of the ground,
- 0:38Speaker 2: grow bigger and bigger until a flower appears, and then
- 0:42Speaker 2: the fruit, and then soon it's time for harvest. But
- 0:46Speaker 2: does this process happen overnight? Do you plant the seed
- 0:50Speaker 2: one day, and then the next day you pick the
- 0:52Speaker 2: fruit or vegetables from that plant? No! It takes time
- 0:57Speaker 2: for the seed to germinate, the plant to grow, to
- 1:00Speaker 2: produce the fruit, and finally for the harvest. That's how
- 1:05Speaker 2: it is with people when you share Jesus with them.
- 1:08Speaker 2: It usually takes time, lots of kindness, being patient, and
- 1:13Speaker 2: sometimes even weeping because sharing Jesus with others can be hard.
- 1:18Speaker 2: But there is a wonderful promise to each one of
- 1:21Speaker 2: us who shares Jesus with others. That promise is that
- 1:25Speaker 2: we shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves
- 1:28Speaker 2: with him.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness, sowing in
- 1:40Speaker 3: the noontide and the dewy eve. Waiting for the harvest
- 1:46Speaker 3: and the time of reaping, we shall come rejoicing, bringing
- 1:51Speaker 3: in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves.
- 1:57Speaker 3: We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves Bringing in
- 2:03Speaker 3: the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves We shall come rejoicing,
- 2:08Speaker 3: bringing in the sheaves Sowing in the sunshine, sowing in
- 2:14Speaker 3: the shadows Fearing neither clouds nor winter's chilly breeze By
- 2:20Speaker 3: and by the harvest and the labor ended. We shall
- 2:25Speaker 3: come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves. Bringing in the sheaves.
- 2:34Speaker 3: We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves. Bringing in
- 2:41Speaker 3: the sheaves. We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Let's see. I have some dirt and I have a
- 3:05Speaker 1: pot and I'm going to put some seeds in it. Poke, poke, poke.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Cover it up. Add a little bit of water. Sit back.
- 3:16Speaker 4: Hmm.
- 3:17Speaker 1: It's not growing.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 3:19Speaker 1: When's it going to grow? I mean, I just put
- 3:22Speaker 1: the seed in, but why won't it grow?
- 3:26Speaker 4: Huh.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Do you know what the problem is? What do I need?
- 3:31Speaker 1: I have the dirt. I have the water. I even
- 3:34Speaker 1: have sunshine out. And I put the seed in, covered
- 3:38Speaker 1: it up. Why won't it grow? Do you know why,
- 3:43Speaker 1: boys and girls? Because it needs time. We're going to
- 3:48Speaker 1: talk about that in just a minute. But first, let's
- 3:52Speaker 1: pray that God will be with us as we talk
- 3:55Speaker 1: about our lessons that we're learning today. Dear Lord, come
- 4:00Speaker 1: into our hearts. Help us as we are talking about
- 4:05Speaker 1: growing things. and about plants and flowers and fruits and vegetables.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Help us to learn the lessons that you want us
- 4:14Speaker 1: to learn today. In Jesus' name, amen. Food and flowers,
- 4:21Speaker 1: plants and trees, they all come from what? A seed.
- 4:26Speaker 1: How can tiny little seeds do such wonderful big things?
- 4:31Speaker 1: We can't understand how they can grow into plants or trees.
- 4:35Speaker 1: But it's easy to see that God has put a
- 4:37Speaker 1: powerful spark of life into the seed. Let's turn in
- 4:42Speaker 1: our Bibles to Mark chapter 4, verse 26 and 27.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Mark chapter 4, verses 26 and 27. God puts a
- 4:46Speaker 1: little spark of life into these seeds. Mark chapter 4,
- 4:49Speaker 1: verse 26 and 27.
- 4:50Speaker 4: And he says, The kingdom of God is as if
- 5:08Speaker 4: a man should scatter seed on the ground and should
- 5:14Speaker 4: sleep by night and rise by day. And the seed
- 5:20Speaker 4: should sprout and grow. He himself does not know how.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Does the man, does he make the seed grow? No,
- 5:30Speaker 1: in fact, he scatters the seed and then he goes
- 5:32Speaker 1: to sleep. gets up the next day. And guess what?
- 5:36Speaker 1: The seed will sprout, but does he know how? No,
- 5:39Speaker 1: he doesn't. God has put a powerful little spark of
- 5:43Speaker 1: life into each seed. Good seeds and different kinds of
- 5:48Speaker 1: ground are what we've been learning about this week. If
- 5:51Speaker 1: we plant a seed one day, will it be all
- 5:54Speaker 1: grown up the next? Plant the seed, there's a tree.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Plant a seed, there's a flower. Plant a seed, there's grapes. No,
- 6:04Speaker 1: that's not how it works. If we plant a seed
- 6:07Speaker 1: one day, it takes time for it to grow. Growing
- 6:14Speaker 1: takes time. Let's read verse 28. Mark chapter 4, verse 28.
- 6:22Speaker 4: For the earth yields crops by itself, first the blade,
- 6:27Speaker 4: then the head, after that the full grain in the head.
- 6:32Speaker 1: The Bible tells us that first you get the little sprout,
- 6:36Speaker 1: the little blade, and then it grows up and pretty
- 6:39Speaker 1: soon there's a head on it. And then pretty soon
- 6:41Speaker 1: the grain has come to maturity and you can pick
- 6:44Speaker 1: it and eat it or save it for winter. Jesus
- 6:49Speaker 1: is the perfect example of how he wants all people
- 6:53Speaker 1: to grow. Do they just start off as a little
- 6:56Speaker 1: baby and then poof, they're a big adult? So Jesus
- 7:00Speaker 1: first started out as a tiny helpless baby like all
- 7:03Speaker 1: of us. And then he grew bigger and bigger and
- 7:06Speaker 1: pretty soon he was a child and a young man
- 7:09Speaker 1: and finally a man. And all the time he kept
- 7:13Speaker 1: choosing to please his father in heaven. Let's turn in
- 7:17Speaker 1: our Bibles to Luke chapter 2. Matthew, Mark, Luke chapter 2.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Luke chapter 2 verse 42. Luke chapter 2, verse 40,
- 7:30Speaker 1: and then let's read verse 52. Luke chapter 2, verse 40,
- 7:35Speaker 1: and then 52.
- 7:37Speaker 4: And the child grew and became strong in spirit, filled
- 7:41Speaker 4: with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.
- 7:45Speaker 4: And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and in favor
- 7:51Speaker 4: with God and men.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Jesus grew just like you grew. And he increased in wisdom.
- 7:57Speaker 1: And he grew in height. And he grew in love
- 8:01Speaker 1: with God and with man. Now, let's go back to
- 8:04Speaker 1: Mark chapter 4, verse 29. I should have had you
- 8:07Speaker 1: put your finger there. But that's okay. We'll get practice
- 8:10Speaker 1: flipping back to it. Mark chapter 4, verse 29. Here
- 8:15Speaker 1: we go. What does this talk about? What is this
- 8:19Speaker 1: talking about, this verse?
- 8:21Speaker 4: But then when the grain ripens... Immediately he puts in
- 8:26Speaker 4: the sickle because the harvest has come.
- 8:29Speaker 1: It's talking about the harvest. What is harvest time? Well,
- 8:34Speaker 1: it symbolizes in the Bible when Jesus will come back
- 8:40Speaker 1: to take to heaven all of those who have chosen
- 8:43Speaker 1: by his help to keep letting the good seeds of
- 8:47Speaker 1: truth grow in their minds. Isn't that neat? Just like
- 8:51Speaker 1: you plant the seeds, you help to tend the garden,
- 8:55Speaker 1: and then you pick the harvest and store it up
- 8:58Speaker 1: for winter, or you might eat it at that time.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Jesus talks about when he comes back to take us
- 9:05Speaker 1: to live with him in heaven, it's like we're his
- 9:07Speaker 1: harvest and we'll be preserved up in heaven forever. Isn't
- 9:12Speaker 1: that neat? So are we choosing every day to let
- 9:16Speaker 1: Jesus help us to let the good seeds of truth
- 9:19Speaker 1: grow in our minds? I hope so. It doesn't matter
- 9:23Speaker 1: if you're young or if you're old. We want to
- 9:26Speaker 1: keep choosing to let Jesus work in our hearts, helping
- 9:30Speaker 1: us to grow. Jesus told another story about what even
- 9:35Speaker 1: a very, very teeny tiny seed can become. Look at
- 9:38Speaker 1: verses 30 through 32. Mark chapter 4, verses 30 through 32.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Then he said, to what shall we liken the kingdom
- 9:48Speaker 4: of god or with what parable shall we picture it
- 9:53Speaker 4: it is like a mustard seed which when it is
- 9:57Speaker 4: sown on the ground is smaller than all the seeds
- 10:02Speaker 4: on earth. But when it is sown, it grows up
- 10:07Speaker 4: and becomes greater than all herbs and shoots out large branches,
- 10:12Speaker 4: so that the birds of the air may nest under
- 10:18Speaker 4: its shade.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Imagine such a tiny seed started so small and after
- 10:24Speaker 1: it was planted in good ground and given time, then
- 10:28Speaker 1: what happened? It kept growing. It got bigger and bigger.
- 10:31Speaker 1: In fact, so big that the little birds had a
- 10:35Speaker 1: place for a safe and happy home where they could
- 10:39Speaker 1: raise their babies and sing their songs of praise. It
- 10:42Speaker 1: gave shade to those around them. Who gives seeds their power?
- 10:47Speaker 1: God does, doesn't he? And if we ask Jesus to
- 10:50Speaker 1: help us to be like he was when he was
- 10:53Speaker 1: a child, we will be helpers for him as we grow.
- 10:58Speaker 1: And when we learn to obey our parents cheerfully and quickly,
- 11:01Speaker 1: we make them happy and Jesus happy. Did you know
- 11:06Speaker 1: that smiling, doing all kinds of things for others, is
- 11:09Speaker 1: kind of like planting seeds in other people's minds? There
- 11:13Speaker 1: are other ways that we can help seeds to grow
- 11:15Speaker 1: in us and others. Can you think of some? What
- 11:19Speaker 1: about being helpful and cheerful, holding a door open for someone?
- 11:24Speaker 1: If they're dropping something, offer to help carry it for them.
- 11:28Speaker 1: There are lots of ways that we can plant seeds
- 11:31Speaker 1: in other people's minds. So I want you to think
- 11:35Speaker 1: about what you do at home, what you do at school,
- 11:38Speaker 1: what you do at church or at play. How are
- 11:42Speaker 1: you planting good seeds in other people's lives? Dear Lord,
- 11:47Speaker 1: we ask that you will help us to find ways
- 11:51Speaker 1: to be a blessing to those around us, to plant
- 11:54Speaker 1: good seeds in their heart so that they can experience
- 11:57Speaker 1: the joy that comes from following you. Thank you. In
- 12:02Speaker 1: Jesus' name, amen.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Galatians 6 verse 7.
- 12:10Speaker 5: Whatever Edmund sows, that he will also reap. Whatever Edmund sows,
- 12:19Speaker 5: that he will also reap. Whatever Edmund sows, that he
- 12:26Speaker 5: will also reap. Delicious is from him, six, first seven.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Whatever I'm in souls, that He will also reap. Whatever
- 12:44Speaker 5: I'm in souls, that He will also reap. Whatever I'm
- 12:51Speaker 5: in souls, that He will also reap. Galatians chapter 6,
- 13:00Speaker 5: verse 7.
