- 0:04Speaker 1: Hey, Philly's legend Cole Hamils is here joining us live
- 0:07Speaker 1: on Fouled Territory right now. Cole, It's great to see
- 0:09Speaker 1: you and happy All Star festivities in Philly. Is it
- 0:12Speaker 1: cool to be back here and hanging out?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Oh?
- 0:14Speaker 3: Absolutely?
- 0:15Speaker 4: I think you know, anytime you're able to come into
- 0:17Speaker 4: the city for you know, sort of a playoff atmosphere,
- 0:20Speaker 4: you know, the All Star break is special.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Yeah. The city just kind of absorbs it and takes them.
- 0:25Speaker 4: And it's been awesome been here for the last couple
- 0:27Speaker 4: of days seeing everything that's kind of transpired. And I've
- 0:31Speaker 4: been to a few All Star games, this has been
- 0:34Speaker 4: something very very special.
- 0:35Speaker 3: The fans have turned off the energy, so it's been great.
- 0:38Speaker 5: Have you running around crazy?
- 0:39Speaker 3: Oh god? Yes, this is just break. It's like my break.
- 0:43Speaker 4: But I think the best part is at least I
- 0:45Speaker 4: know the city so I can kind of you know,
- 0:47Speaker 4: coordinate and get everything taken care of.
- 0:48Speaker 2: So yeah, it's been good though. They've done a goods.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Like I saw Jason Worth yesterday. I think he might
- 0:52Speaker 2: have just gotten here. Yeah, and he was undering in the.
- 0:55Speaker 5: Tunnel and he was running around. I was like, hey,
- 0:56Speaker 5: what's up.
- 0:57Speaker 2: He's like I gotta go. I got me and I
- 0:58Speaker 2: was like, you know, you're because one's supposed to come.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Now I'm here, So now they're doubling me up.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Oh god.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Well and you know Chase, I mean, he just played
- 1:05Speaker 4: in the golf tournament in Tahoe and then Lands and
- 1:08Speaker 4: they have him going. So they they've done a really
- 1:11Speaker 4: really good job with how we can interact with the fans.
- 1:14Speaker 4: And you know, Phillies they're all about that. I mean
- 1:17Speaker 4: just the passion they have so that we're we're happy, good.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Time and you guys are you guys are the beast knees,
- 1:24Speaker 2: the oh wait champs will always have a place in
- 1:27Speaker 2: Philly fans.
- 1:28Speaker 5: Hearts. Now, who do you want?
- 1:29Speaker 2: Who do you like seeing when you guys all come
- 1:31Speaker 2: back together, when you come when this group gets together
- 1:34Speaker 2: the list, you're like, oh, I get.
- 1:37Speaker 5: To see that.
- 1:38Speaker 4: So this is funny because he just landed yesterday and
- 1:42Speaker 4: came straight to it. Ryan Matson, Ryan Mats and mad
- 1:46Speaker 4: Dog Hey Land. I think he was in the Bahamas
- 1:48Speaker 4: and he came. We saw him in the suite yesterday
- 1:51Speaker 4: and Work goes up to him, Chase goes up to him.
- 1:54Speaker 4: I'm there, like he just he was such a good
- 1:58Speaker 4: teammate and kind of you know, I think you have
- 2:00Speaker 4: to be when you're in the bullpen.
- 2:02Speaker 3: But we love him and he's been good.
- 2:03Speaker 5: You don't have to be I saw him.
- 2:06Speaker 2: I saw him in eleven when he was kind of
- 2:09Speaker 2: transitioning and like Lys was kind of transitioning to the
- 2:12Speaker 2: eighth inning. And then it was gonna be like mad
- 2:14Speaker 2: Dog in the next year. Obviously the contract stuff didn't
- 2:16Speaker 2: work out. Pap came in. He was the exact same
- 2:19Speaker 2: dude in Kansas City when we were together in fifteen
- 2:22Speaker 2: and won the World Series. Like, he is that guy,
- 2:24Speaker 2: So I like that. Who said that, yeah.
- 2:26Speaker 3: You root, you root for the Phillies, right, yeah, absolutely,
- 2:30Speaker 3: no root for him.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Because that's one of the thing because okay, because people
- 2:36Speaker 2: have to I played for more team teams obviously, but
- 2:38Speaker 2: people like pretty Rooper. I always say the White Sox
- 2:41Speaker 2: say why I said, Well, I won there. I was
- 2:42Speaker 2: there the longest, Right.
- 2:44Speaker 3: What I meant by that is what was it twenty
- 2:46Speaker 3: three when they went to the World Series.
- 2:48Speaker 2: We two, So that's my question, Right, it is the
- 2:51Speaker 2: last team to win, So like the eighty team forever
- 2:54Speaker 2: was the team in Philly, right, nineteen eighty team.
- 2:56Speaker 5: Then you guys won in two thousand and eight. Same
- 2:58Speaker 5: in Chicago two thousand and five.
- 2:59Speaker 2: We one they've never seen the Phillies and the White
- 3:02Speaker 2: White Tars haven't really kind closed since then. But the
- 3:04Speaker 2: Phillies have been to the world too. Is they've done
- 3:06Speaker 2: deep in the playoffs before.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Do you root for them to win?
- 3:09Speaker 4: I do, And I think the fact that a lot
- 3:11Speaker 4: of us want want them to win is because it's
- 3:13Speaker 4: such a special group to be a part of. We
- 3:16Speaker 4: want more to join, you know, we want we want
- 3:18Speaker 4: these guys because it is like we look at now
- 3:20Speaker 4: the eighty guys. They were so good to us and
- 3:23Speaker 4: they're still incredible mentors. They love having us around, and
- 3:27Speaker 4: now we want that kind of next group of guys
- 3:30Speaker 4: to kind of come in so that we can kind
- 3:32Speaker 4: of be that help liaison of what it's all.
- 3:35Speaker 3: About to win.
- 3:36Speaker 4: And so yeah, we want them to win, and we'd
- 3:38Speaker 4: love for them to win back to back. I mean,
- 3:40Speaker 4: that would be kind of awesome if we can get
- 3:41Speaker 4: multiple championships, because it's hard, it's very difficult to do
- 3:44Speaker 4: and they do have a talented team, so it's just
- 3:47Speaker 4: a matter of time to try to get it done.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Are you surprised they haven't won yet? Because they've had
- 3:52Speaker 1: this group together.
- 3:53Speaker 3: For a ban.
- 3:54Speaker 1: They are stars, they've performed well, playoffs, the whole deal.
- 3:57Speaker 4: They haven't gotten I know. And and that's what just
- 4:00Speaker 4: shows you. It's it's so difficult to win. And I
- 4:03Speaker 4: really do think that they've had the opportunities, just haven't
- 4:07Speaker 4: been able to do it. Just like even the team
- 4:08Speaker 4: that I played for, you know, in eight, nine, ten, eleven.
- 4:11Speaker 4: I mean we had star studied lineups and you know,
- 4:15Speaker 4: on paper, everything looks great, but it's when it comes
- 4:19Speaker 4: down to it, you have to deliver in the right
- 4:21Speaker 4: big moments. And and so that's that's kind of what
- 4:23Speaker 4: Philly is right now. They have to deliver in the
- 4:25Speaker 4: big moments.
- 4:26Speaker 5: I mean, that's eleven team.
- 4:28Speaker 2: We should have won the World Series that Do you
- 4:31Speaker 2: ever look at that team with For people who don't know,
- 4:34Speaker 2: is Roy Holliday, Ole Hammils, roy O's Walt, Joe Blanton,
- 4:39Speaker 2: Vance Whirley.
- 4:43Speaker 3: You did, but you did.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Because everybody knows that Cliff was easily the worst of
- 4:50Speaker 2: the whole team.
- 4:52Speaker 5: If he listens to.
- 4:53Speaker 3: This stillmaker or something.
- 4:54Speaker 5: But do you look at that?
- 4:55Speaker 2: Do you look at that team when you watch other
- 4:58Speaker 2: teams that are doing super well now and go where
- 5:03Speaker 2: they're at, like I feel where like they were really close,
- 5:05Speaker 2: but I understand.
- 5:07Speaker 4: No, it's yeah, I mean that team you could look
- 5:10Speaker 4: at us and we knew we're gonna win every single day,
- 5:12Speaker 4: or you know, you you could put your money on it.
- 5:15Speaker 4: I mean, it was kind of one of those situations
- 5:17Speaker 4: and it's just unfortunate didn't happen. And you know, the
- 5:21Speaker 4: Cardinals were hot. Chris Carbenter is pretty damn good too,
- 5:24Speaker 4: so you know, it's just kind of you have to
- 5:26Speaker 4: look how they matched up and now, Yeah, you look
- 5:28Speaker 4: at teams now and it's matchups.
- 5:30Speaker 3: And delivering in the big moments.
- 5:33Speaker 4: I mean, sometimes you have those stars that don't know
- 5:36Speaker 4: their stars yet and they deliver in the big moment,
- 5:38Speaker 4: they make a name for themselves and you start talking
- 5:41Speaker 4: about them.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Many people have this problem. I want to eat healthy.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I have the willpower, I don't have the time and
- 5:47Speaker 1: the organization. I need help.
- 5:49Speaker 3: What do you do?
- 5:50Speaker 5: I mean, you go to factor.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I got two boys that are looking for the games
- 5:54Speaker 2: and they always come in the house.
- 5:56Speaker 5: Was I'm looking for food.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Now they have actual healthy food that is great for them,
- 6:02Speaker 2: and you know what, it's ready in the fridge for
- 6:04Speaker 2: them to pop in and make it right away.
- 6:07Speaker 1: And they have meals built around your goals. It could
- 6:10Speaker 1: be weight loss, overall, nutrition gains, more protein, fresh never frozen,
- 6:15Speaker 1: over one hundred rotating weekly meals, including globally inspired flavors
- 6:21Speaker 1: like Mediterranean and Asian. I get all kinds of different
- 6:24Speaker 1: salads from Factor that I love, quick easy. They can
- 6:27Speaker 1: be ready in two minutes. Head to Factor Meals dot com.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Slash Foul fifty off and use code Foul fifty off
- 6:36Speaker 1: to get fifty percent off and free daily greens per
- 6:38Speaker 1: box with new subscription only, while supplies last until nine
- 6:41Speaker 1: twenty seven, twenty twenty six. What Apple went to the
- 6:44Speaker 1: league not realizing Zach Wheeler was a star, an All Star?
- 6:48Speaker 1: And then give us your take, because there's a lot
- 6:51Speaker 1: of oh, well, he should have just said okay whenever
- 6:54Speaker 1: they asked him. I mean you can speak to being
- 6:56Speaker 1: in someone's chooes like that, where you get the last
- 6:59Speaker 1: minute ask where do you stand on this?
- 7:02Speaker 3: Well? And yeah, I one hundred percent agree with that.
- 7:05Speaker 4: It's something where you don't want to be that fifth option.
- 7:09Speaker 4: And you know, I understand what he's been able to
- 7:12Speaker 4: do and accomplish, especially after that surgery. He's delivering like
- 7:17Speaker 4: a superstar and he wasn't treated like a superstar. And
- 7:20Speaker 4: I feel like that's kind of what the All Star
- 7:22Speaker 4: Game is all about, is you have the superstars and
- 7:25Speaker 4: you have those guys that deliver, and he's that guy.
- 7:28Speaker 4: You can't be fifth down the line. And so I
- 7:32Speaker 4: think it's something where it sparks a conversation. Now for
- 7:37Speaker 4: those accolades carry a ton of weight, especially when you're retired,
- 7:43Speaker 4: especially in contracts. I mean, it sounds better when you're
- 7:47Speaker 4: a five time All Star than a three time All Star.
- 7:50Speaker 4: I mean that is huge, and that is Zach. I mean,
- 7:54Speaker 4: the guy is a cy young candidate. You know, he's
- 7:56Speaker 4: he's going to be a big guy at the end,
- 7:59Speaker 4: and he's not get the credit.
- 8:00Speaker 1: And also once every twenty thirty, forty fifty years sometimes
- 8:04Speaker 1: for teams to have All Star games and you had
- 8:07Speaker 1: a layup low two Zra player's gonna be a Hall
- 8:10Speaker 1: of Fame all like it's it's everything happening all at once. Also,
- 8:14Speaker 1: I know you saw like Phillies were after a terrible start,
- 8:17Speaker 1: other things happened but Zach Wheeler comes back, they take
- 8:19Speaker 1: off the moment that he could have had here.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Yes, Christopher Sanchez gets his moment absolutely, but as he
- 8:27Speaker 4: was a smart I mean, he's the spark plug bear.
- 8:30Speaker 4: He sets the tone and to then kind of have
- 8:34Speaker 4: the situation happen the way it did. Yeah, I think
- 8:37Speaker 4: it's a big conversation that I think needs to happen
- 8:40Speaker 4: in the CBA and with the commission about really what
- 8:43Speaker 4: the All Star Game is about, but also what that
- 8:45Speaker 4: does to people's careers and how it really describes and
- 8:49Speaker 4: shows the credit you have to give credit?
- 8:51Speaker 3: Where's credits? Due?
- 8:52Speaker 2: By way, I argued that all an All Star Game
- 8:56Speaker 2: shouldn't start if they're just going to give All Star
- 8:58Speaker 2: appearances and you know there's eighty five alls. No, there's
- 9:02Speaker 2: less this year. I think last year's eighty five alls. Well,
- 9:05Speaker 2: as you know you're up for the Hall of Fame.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Oh he was a four time All Star. If you
- 9:09Speaker 2: were a seven time All Star, right, people were like, whoa,
- 9:12Speaker 2: he was even better than I thought because of the
- 9:14Speaker 2: All Star Well, if you're gonna cheapen it and then
- 9:17Speaker 2: not have a guy like Zach Wheeler, then you shouldn't
- 9:19Speaker 2: use that fort salary, and you shouldn't use that for
- 9:21Speaker 2: the Hall of Fame.
- 9:21Speaker 3: It will never change.
- 9:22Speaker 2: I get it, but that's what that's like my big argument.
- 9:26Speaker 2: I don't want to get into that one.
- 9:27Speaker 3: But I also wist.
- 9:29Speaker 4: No, this is actually kind of interesting because the game
- 9:33Speaker 4: of baseball, if you're playing for one team, that team
- 9:35Speaker 4: in that division kind of knows who you are.
- 9:38Speaker 3: The rest of the league doesn't. All star games are
- 9:40Speaker 3: kind of what put you on the map.
- 9:42Speaker 4: So this keeps the conversation going about how good you
- 9:45Speaker 4: really are that other fan bases don't see all the
- 9:49Speaker 4: time because they don't face you.
- 9:51Speaker 3: There's a lot of really good players. This is where
- 9:53Speaker 3: you get the acknowledgment, and so why prevent that?
- 9:56Speaker 5: I agree? I agree?
- 9:57Speaker 2: All right, your last start of the Philly was a
- 9:59Speaker 2: no hit, which is unbelievably awesome.
- 10:02Speaker 3: It's so cool.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Can you imagine if Charlie Manuel would have come to
- 10:06Speaker 2: you and said, you're in the eighth inning, You're like, cool,
- 10:08Speaker 2: You're in ninety two pitches.
- 10:11Speaker 5: That's it for the day. You're done.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Go take us to go have a beer.
- 10:13Speaker 5: Wrigley.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Right, No, it wasn't Charlie.
- 10:16Speaker 5: It was Pete mccannon and Pete.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Yeah we had Pete mccannon. Yeah, okay, so no we
- 10:21Speaker 3: have Pete.
- 10:21Speaker 1: No.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Charlie had been like, you can go out there for
- 10:23Speaker 3: the tenth you keep going yeah, home run. Yeah, no
- 10:28Speaker 3: he was there, but yeah, the game has changed a
- 10:31Speaker 3: little bit. Yeah. I think it's a lot where pitchers
- 10:35Speaker 3: need to really.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Learn how to have beneficial conversations with the pitching coach,
- 10:41Speaker 4: with the manager, with the analytics about this these numbers
- 10:47Speaker 4: that are coming up in the sixth seventh inning, Like, no,
- 10:50Speaker 4: I'm pacting myself like they have to be up front
- 10:54Speaker 4: a little bit more gone. No, I've got this strategy
- 10:57Speaker 4: right now, let me do it. I still have more
- 10:59Speaker 4: in the tank, but I don't need to expose it yet.
- 11:01Speaker 4: They have to have more conversation because I think that
- 11:04Speaker 4: was something I learned is if Charlie came out, I'm like, no, Charlie,
- 11:07Speaker 4: I've still got something.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Let me go batter by that.
- 11:10Speaker 4: Let's work towards something you can trust me, not you
- 11:14Speaker 4: know the whole I've got.
- 11:14Speaker 3: I'm going to finish what I started and then you're hanging.
- 11:17Speaker 3: You have to learn how to communicate.
- 11:19Speaker 2: And this is a guy now like We are definitely
- 11:21Speaker 2: in the era of don't pitch a lot. There's a
- 11:25Speaker 2: lot of thirty two's and thirty threes all the way
- 11:27Speaker 2: down this list.
- 11:28Speaker 5: You made your starts, yep. Did you make your starts because.
- 11:31Speaker 2: You went first inning hunch hunch, hunch, brick, best breaking
- 11:35Speaker 2: ball of the game, punch out or did you make
- 11:37Speaker 2: all those starts because you were able to do what
- 11:39Speaker 2: you said?
- 11:40Speaker 3: Yes?
- 11:41Speaker 4: No, I'm pacing myself. My whole goal was give me
- 11:45Speaker 4: close to one hundred and ten pitches and we're gonna
- 11:48Speaker 4: work down.
- 11:49Speaker 3: But I'm going nine innings. And that was the bullpen.
- 11:52Speaker 4: Knew it, and it was if I wasn't throwing first
- 11:55Speaker 4: switch strikes, I don't need to throw ninety five mile
- 11:58Speaker 4: an hour first pitch strike. I could throw ninety one
- 12:01Speaker 4: down and a way, or I'm going up and in.
- 12:02Speaker 4: I'm still trying to figure it out. I can throw
- 12:05Speaker 4: o curveballs, you know, something where I could pace and
- 12:08Speaker 4: wasn't as stressful because I'm trying to build towards the
- 12:11Speaker 4: whole game, not just blow it out in the first
- 12:14Speaker 4: Guys feel strategic pressure from coaching staffs and really front
- 12:18Speaker 4: offices to go all out right away.
- 12:21Speaker 1: And just give me your vest five or six or whatever.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Some guys have been able to overcome that and go
- 12:25Speaker 1: deeper into outings. But I know you mentioned it's a conversation.
- 12:29Speaker 1: How do you foundationally change all of that or revert
- 12:33Speaker 1: it back when they're saying, no, our percentage chance of
- 12:35Speaker 1: winning is better because we might get one more punch
- 12:37Speaker 1: out in the first inning instead of a home run.
- 12:39Speaker 1: You know, it starts to play a percentages game. That's
- 12:41Speaker 1: what they're putting in their computer.
- 12:43Speaker 3: I think that the importance is spring training.
- 12:46Speaker 4: I think spring training is where you set the tone,
- 12:48Speaker 4: where you're talking about where you're working things. I mean,
- 12:51Speaker 4: Eric knows I didn't throw ninety miles an hour in
- 12:53Speaker 4: my first spring training game.
- 12:54Speaker 3: I was like eighty five eighty six.
- 12:56Speaker 4: I was just a slow build up, and I wanted
- 12:59Speaker 4: to peek in the middle of the season and I
- 13:01Speaker 4: wanted to finish Sean.
- 13:02Speaker 3: I mean it was I want to.
- 13:03Speaker 4: Post my thirty four starts, plus I tried to prepare
- 13:08Speaker 4: for at least four to five starts in the postseason.
- 13:11Speaker 4: My whole training regiment in the off season and in
- 13:13Speaker 4: spring training alone was to play until November first, and
- 13:16Speaker 4: that was what I did, and I learned a lot
- 13:19Speaker 4: from Roy Holiday because that was his mentality too.
- 13:21Speaker 2: The whole team was that well, I mean I got
- 13:24Speaker 2: when I got to PILLI en eleven, the whole team
- 13:26Speaker 2: was didn't matter if you were a rookie or a
- 13:29Speaker 2: fifteen year vet, and was like, we're not We're Everything
- 13:33Speaker 2: else was about the windows. We were playing into November first, yep,
- 13:37Speaker 2: and I mean I saw it in the pitching stead.
- 13:38Speaker 2: I saw it in everything. That's also weird about twelve,
- 13:41Speaker 2: and that's what brings me to my twenty twelve, Oh
- 13:44Speaker 2: Hamma story. We were in La. Do you remember going
- 13:48Speaker 2: You probably don't have. Our conversation with LA looked like
- 13:51Speaker 2: they were one of the teams that was going to
- 13:52Speaker 2: trade for you.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Yes, yeah they were.
- 13:53Speaker 5: And you and I were.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Sitting in the Doug app and you looked around and
- 13:57Speaker 2: you were like something from southern California, and you were like,
- 14:00Speaker 2: I just don't know if I could play at a
- 14:02Speaker 2: place with this type of energy. Obviously twelve we were
- 14:06Speaker 2: kind of we're out of it and are we out
- 14:09Speaker 2: of it? All that stuff. So it's a trade deadline
- 14:11Speaker 2: coming up. Then you signed your extensions. Yep, how much?
- 14:15Speaker 2: How long did that decision weigh on, dude? And how
- 14:18Speaker 2: hard was that decision once the team offered you the extension.
- 14:21Speaker 2: If not, you're getting traded in your career would have
- 14:24Speaker 2: been completely different.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Oh my gosh.
- 14:26Speaker 4: Yeah, that was those two weeks kind of going into
- 14:29Speaker 4: the All Star break and then going into the trade
- 14:31Speaker 4: deadline July. It was shaky because Philly was all. I know,
- 14:36Speaker 4: I've had an incredible career here. I wasn't ready to
- 14:40Speaker 4: give that up because the intensity of the fans. I mean,
- 14:43Speaker 4: the NLS, that is a fun division. I mean, the
- 14:46Speaker 4: cities they are going to, the you know, the type
- 14:48Speaker 4: of competition.
- 14:50Speaker 3: I do love California. I enjoy It's a great place
- 14:53Speaker 3: to play.
- 14:54Speaker 4: But I was still hooked on this division, this team,
- 14:58Speaker 4: this city, and I still had hope.
- 15:01Speaker 3: I mean I still had hope of what we were doing.
- 15:02Speaker 4: I still the pitching staff was still holiday Lee myself.
- 15:06Speaker 4: We still had Chase, Ryan, Jimmy. I mean we still
- 15:09Speaker 4: hat you know, Pince, we had the upper start was
- 15:12Speaker 4: still there. We can still go, we can still do
- 15:15Speaker 4: this and yeah, So once the team offered me the
- 15:19Speaker 4: contract that I felt was you know, fair and what
- 15:21Speaker 4: I wanted.
- 15:22Speaker 3: It was a no brainer. I was like, yeah done,
- 15:24Speaker 3: let's get it done.

- 16:25Speaker 2: One of the things in the chat that people were
- 16:28Speaker 2: asking was what would you like as a starter on
- 16:31Speaker 2: your start there?
- 16:32Speaker 5: And I'm gonna let you I'm not gonna leave the witness.
- 16:34Speaker 5: I'm gonna let.
- 16:35Speaker 2: You say how you think you were, and then I'll
- 16:38Speaker 2: tell you exactly how you were.
- 16:40Speaker 3: That's perfect from a catcher's point of view. I love it.
- 16:43Speaker 4: I tried to come in and be just more laid back,
- 16:48Speaker 4: but I had a schedule, and my schedule on the clock.
- 16:52Speaker 4: I knew where I was going to be when it
- 16:54Speaker 4: hit five. I knew where I was going to be
- 16:56Speaker 4: at thirty mark fifty five. Like, I had this schedule.
- 17:00Speaker 4: When I came in, I'm over here. I have to
- 17:01Speaker 4: do this. It was like checkpoints, and I just needed
- 17:04Speaker 4: to get my check check check, and then I would
- 17:07Speaker 4: go out there.
- 17:08Speaker 3: And I did.
- 17:08Speaker 4: I went out there, I think at the same exact
- 17:10Speaker 4: time on the dot if it was a seven or
- 17:13Speaker 4: five game, if it was a one on five game,
- 17:15Speaker 4: I had this sort of routine and I stuck to it.
- 17:17Speaker 5: It was it was very methodical.
- 17:19Speaker 2: But the part that I always tell people because they're like,
- 17:22Speaker 2: we've already said the staff. Roy Holliday was in the
- 17:25Speaker 2: in the video room, so intense, all this stuff blah blah.
- 17:29Speaker 2: He had his Cliff was like whatever, He's like, I'm
- 17:31Speaker 2: just gonna throw strikes, probably a card.
- 17:33Speaker 3: He get inline cards sometimes like ten minutes before the game, like.
- 17:37Speaker 5: Yeah, like you get out there.
- 17:39Speaker 2: He go do whatever pippers do think and Cole would
- 17:42Speaker 2: always come in. He'd go exactly like he said, very relaxed,
- 17:46Speaker 2: you go, you know, I don't really want to talk
- 17:48Speaker 2: about the talk about the lineup, like we know these guys,
- 17:51Speaker 2: it's a division opponent. And then he'd go, he's but
- 17:54Speaker 2: he'd be on the table when I'd come and ask him.
- 17:56Speaker 2: He'd be on the training table getting stretched and I
- 17:58Speaker 2: go okay, and I'm walking out the door and he go,
- 18:03Speaker 2: h hey, just remember Rugiano can't hate a change up.
- 18:07Speaker 2: And then or we're playing the Braves, he's like, hey,
- 18:09Speaker 2: just remember, you know, Schipper's always looking for that back
- 18:13Speaker 2: door cut off. And then by the time he's done
- 18:16Speaker 2: his stretching, we've gone through all nine guys and flying
- 18:18Speaker 2: up and including just throw them out Tim Hudson. But
- 18:22Speaker 2: the start he would always say, I don't really you
- 18:24Speaker 2: know these guys, I don't really want to go over them.
- 18:26Speaker 2: And it was like his like almost like his like
- 18:29Speaker 2: cool California way of being like, I'm intense. But as
- 18:33Speaker 2: he would go through it, you would get more and
- 18:36Speaker 2: more locked in, and you would get so pissed off.
- 18:39Speaker 2: You would get so pissed off at the catcher if
- 18:44Speaker 2: we didn't get the sign in in time.
- 18:46Speaker 5: Yep.
- 18:47Speaker 4: I was about to say it big on signs and
- 18:49Speaker 4: now punch buttons in, but you know I had a
- 18:52Speaker 4: series of signs that works pretty much my whole career.
- 18:55Speaker 4: The numbers meant different pitches and locations, and I was like, hey,
- 19:00Speaker 4: you have these down because if we cross up, I'm
- 19:03Speaker 4: throwing it to that location.
- 19:05Speaker 3: Better not be jumping over it here, I do.
- 19:09Speaker 5: Yeah. His were exactly opposite of what when I signed.
- 19:12Speaker 3: Wight to share them. Yeah, I mean, I'm not all right,
- 19:14Speaker 3: I want to hear it.
- 19:15Speaker 4: Nobody uses them but one curveball okay, two inside fastball,
- 19:24Speaker 4: Oh my god, them I forget.
- 19:26Speaker 5: No.
- 19:26Speaker 3: Three was changed.
- 19:29Speaker 5: Four cutter.
- 19:32Speaker 4: You know, five, like a wiggle just to distract. Yeah,
- 19:35Speaker 4: then we have that. So yeah, and we just kind
- 19:37Speaker 4: of bounced it back and forth. I mean I have
- 19:39Speaker 4: and we just go and it was sometimes we would
- 19:41Speaker 4: talk about it where it'd be either first sign or
- 19:44Speaker 4: second sign, you know, just like so put them all down,
- 19:46Speaker 4: but I'm looking at the second sign and yeah, it
- 19:49Speaker 4: just as long as we.
- 19:50Speaker 5: Have that straight.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Nobody ever, nobody ever felt maybe somebody will come out
- 19:54Speaker 2: and be like, yeah, we had your signs. Yeah that's
- 19:56Speaker 2: what it didn't didn't hit Lloyd Holiday would then pitch
- 19:59Speaker 2: the next day at his signs with a runner on second.
- 20:03Speaker 5: We're the exact opposite.
- 20:07Speaker 2: So I'm sitting there like, I hope the first guy
- 20:09Speaker 2: doesn't get on second base and it's a first get's
- 20:11Speaker 2: double and I'm like, okay, just catching Paul happ where's shoots?
- 20:16Speaker 2: I don't want to be out here, but hey.
- 20:18Speaker 1: You gotta remember the playbook. Yeah, did anybody disrupt your
- 20:22Speaker 1: day ever? Where you have everything timed out and ninety
- 20:26Speaker 1: five percent of people around you know, don't mess with
- 20:29Speaker 1: the starter, but something happened some delay and then they're like, up,
- 20:33Speaker 1: the schedule is screwed.
- 20:34Speaker 4: Today well, no, I think anytime we got in the playoffs.
- 20:39Speaker 4: I'm in the playoffs, they're set on their sort of routine,
- 20:42Speaker 4: and you know, you have the flag, yeah, cops.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Ambulance and stuff.
- 20:48Speaker 4: You know, they kind of set the schedule and it
- 20:50Speaker 4: was always a couple of minutes different than my variation,
- 20:54Speaker 4: and so you kind of get out. And I didn't
- 20:56Speaker 4: like to just hang out in the outfit, you know,
- 20:59Speaker 4: I wanted to do something. I mean, we would kind
- 21:01Speaker 4: of talk a little bit, but then it was like,
- 21:03Speaker 4: all right, now it's I got to play catch. Now
- 21:05Speaker 4: we've got to warm up. Now we've got to do this,
- 21:07Speaker 4: and I've got to be in the dugout at this time.
- 21:09Speaker 4: So when you're doing playoff stuff, I get it. You
- 21:12Speaker 4: have national anthems, they're different, but you know that flag
- 21:15Speaker 4: I just mentioned comes out that would kind of throw
- 21:17Speaker 4: it off. And I think I do remember postseason Derek Low,
- 21:23Speaker 4: we didn't know what to do, and you know, we're
- 21:25Speaker 4: having a home game, it's l the NLCS Game one,
- 21:28Speaker 4: and both he and I are trying to warm up. Well,
- 21:30Speaker 4: we can't flags the size of the field, and he's
- 21:33Speaker 4: looking on like where are you throwing?
- 21:35Speaker 3: Where am I throwing, and we just kind of had a.
- 21:37Speaker 4: Chuckle about it about because you're like, all right, we'll
- 21:39Speaker 4: figure it out, and then you know, he just kind
- 21:42Speaker 4: of make do all right, I.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Got two more, we have time. The cops just went
- 21:46Speaker 2: buy first. Tell me about after you guys won an
- 21:51Speaker 2: eight the cops taking you to Brett Meyers house or
- 21:55Speaker 2: were you already there?
- 21:57Speaker 3: No? Yeah, So we end up going.
- 21:58Speaker 4: To Burls girl had Burl had the party, so he
- 22:01Speaker 4: was he was down here in Rittenhouse Square. I mean,
- 22:04Speaker 4: half the streets are close off because it's all fans,
- 22:08Speaker 4: so you have no route to get anywhere, and so
- 22:11Speaker 4: finally cops are the ones that have to kind of
- 22:13Speaker 4: rout us.
- 22:14Speaker 3: But at first they're like, no, you can't go there,
- 22:15Speaker 3: And then they see us, where are you going?
- 22:18Speaker 4: And we're like we've got a party here, Like, oh,
- 22:20Speaker 4: we've got you, we'll take you. Then we get to
- 22:23Speaker 4: Burl's house for this party, We've got no food and
- 22:27Speaker 4: no booze. Within like ten minutes cops come up and
- 22:31Speaker 4: they have all of it for us. Wow, And it
- 22:34Speaker 4: was I mean that's why full city man. They love
- 22:36Speaker 4: you the passion. And so then we're having a great
- 22:39Speaker 4: team party. And yeah, typical rule that I just don't
- 22:42Speaker 4: drive home.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Nope, we're good.
- 22:44Speaker 5: So fast forward a year.
- 22:46Speaker 2: You didn't have quite the same reception season all that
- 22:49Speaker 2: stuff for you guys back in the World Series, and
- 22:52Speaker 2: you tell us to cut the police escort that you've
- 22:55Speaker 2: got after you came out of start, and I think
- 22:57Speaker 2: it was Copenbarger came up to you and told you
- 23:00Speaker 2: to do that.
- 23:01Speaker 5: I was having a kid, you know, right after the start.
- 23:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I'm gonna have a kid right in
- 23:07Speaker 4: the middle of the game. And it was the n
- 23:10Speaker 4: l DS Game one against the Rockies. I didn't I
- 23:13Speaker 4: didn't obviously have the best start. I gave up a
- 23:15Speaker 4: big home run, so I got pulled. I mean, I
- 23:18Speaker 4: think it's like the fifth or sixth inning and Frank
- 23:19Speaker 4: Coin of goes, hey, you're about to have a kid.
- 23:21Speaker 4: I was like, oh, I got to go to the hospital.
- 23:24Speaker 4: I get in a cop car and the cop took
- 23:26Speaker 4: me all the way to the hospital.
- 23:28Speaker 3: Wow. It's pretty special.
- 23:29Speaker 4: That's why I mean here, this is this is a
- 23:31Speaker 4: special place and so appreciative of everything that. You know,
- 23:35Speaker 4: the fans are great, you know, the cops obviously are great.
- 23:38Speaker 4: It's it's been fun. I've I've enjoyed every minute of it.
- 23:41Speaker 4: They took care of you, guys.
- 23:42Speaker 1: The biggest surprise for me is Pat world and have
- 23:44Speaker 1: alcohol in his apartment.
- 23:46Speaker 3: I mean he did. He might not have had all
- 23:49Speaker 3: of us, but I mean he might have had for
- 23:50Speaker 3: thirty people, not one hundred people. But Pep Bar could
- 23:53Speaker 3: show you a good time. I know that at the bat. Yeah, exactly,
- 23:56Speaker 3: we'll call. Thanks for the extended time, man, thanks for
- 23:58Speaker 3: stopping by. Awesome to have you. Appreciate it. Have fun today, No,
- 24:01Speaker 3: thank you, guys.
- 24:02Speaker 4: This is you know I catch I always catch some
- 24:04Speaker 4: of the show every once in a while, so.
- 24:05Speaker 3: You guys do a great job. Thanks for having me.
- 24:10Speaker 1: M
