- 0:00Praise the Lord. It feels like a long time since
- 0:02I have shared on Sunday morning. And there's
- 0:08been so much happening. This week, we've had
- 0:12one thing after another. And this week, for a
- 0:16couple days, I just went, oh, thank you, Lord.
- 0:21You happy to be alive? Are you happy? To have
- 0:27the breath of God in your lungs. His air fueling
- 0:34you. Praise God. And so I am, because of that,
- 0:41I'm looking forward to sharing this word with
- 0:43you. I took two words and I combined them into
- 0:47one. So that means I get to preach twice as long.
- 0:50Is that right? Oh, oh, that was harsh. Who did
- 0:59that? Brother Bill? Brother Bill? Wow. Yeah,
- 1:09now you're not getting out till 1230, Bill. You
- 1:16can all blame him. I told somebody this morning,
- 1:21I said, I feel ornery today. I don't know where
- 1:24that's going to take us. Thank you, Lord. But
- 1:30if you'll go with me in your Bible to Acts chapter
- 1:3312. Acts chapter 12. I want to talk a little
- 1:40bit to us this morning as your pastor. We have
- 1:45been through some things. And we're still going
- 1:49through some things. And I want to take the time
- 1:56to read an entire chapter. Is that okay if we
- 2:01honor God's word that way? I'm going to read
- 2:05Acts chapter 12. Now about that time, Herod the
- 2:11king stretched out his hand to harass some from
- 2:15the church. Then he killed James. the brother
- 2:21of John, with the sword. And because he saw that
- 2:28it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to
- 2:33seize Peter also. Now it was during the days
- 2:37of unleavened bread, so when he had arrested
- 2:40him, he put him in prison, delivered him to four
- 2:43squads of soldiers, that's 16 soldiers, to keep
- 2:47him. intending to bring him before the people
- 2:51after Passover. Peter was therefore kept in prison,
- 2:54but constant prayer was offered to God for him
- 2:58by the church. And when Herod was about to bring
- 3:02him out that night, Peter was sleeping, bound
- 3:05with two chains between two soldiers. And the
- 3:09guards before the door were keeping the prison.
- 3:12Now behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him
- 3:16and a light shone in the prison and he struck
- 3:18Peter on the side and raised him up saying, arise
- 3:21quickly. And his chains fell off his hands. Then
- 3:26the angel said to him, gird yourself and tie
- 3:28on your sandals. And so he did. And he said to
- 3:32him, put on your garment and follow me. So he
- 3:36went out and followed him and did not know that
- 3:40what was done by the angel was real, but thought
- 3:43he was seeing a vision. And when they were past
- 3:47the first and the second guard posts, they came
- 3:49to the iron gate that leads to the city, which
- 3:52opened to them of its own accord. And they went
- 3:57out and went down one street, and immediately
- 4:00the angel departed from him. And when Peter had
- 4:05come to himself, He said, now I know for certain
- 4:09that the Lord has sent his angel and has delivered
- 4:12me from the hand of Herod and from all the expectation
- 4:16of the Jewish people. So when he had considered
- 4:20this, he came to the house of Mary, the mother
- 4:24of John, whose surname was Mark, where many were
- 4:29gathered praying. And as Peter knocked at the
- 4:33door of the gate, a girl named Rhoda came to
- 4:38answer. And when she recognized Peter's voice
- 4:41because of her gladness, she did not open the
- 4:45gate, but ran in and announced that Peter stood
- 4:49before the gate. But they said to her, you are
- 4:53beside yourself. Yet she kept insisting that
- 4:57it was so, so they said, it's his angel. Now
- 5:01Peter continued knocking. And when they opened
- 5:05the door and saw him, they were astonished. But
- 5:08motioning to them with his hand to keep silent,
- 5:12he declared to them how the Lord had brought
- 5:14him out of the prison. And he said, go tell these
- 5:18things to James and the brethren. And he departed
- 5:22and went to another place. Then as soon as it
- 5:26was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers.
- 5:31about what had become of Peter. But when Herod
- 5:34had searched for Peter and not found him, he
- 5:37examined the guards and commanded that they should
- 5:39be put to death. And he went down from Judea
- 5:43to Caesarea and stayed there. Now Herod had been
- 5:47very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon,
- 5:50but they came to him with one accord, and having
- 5:52made Blastus the king's personal aide their friend,
- 5:56They asked for peace because their country was
- 5:58supplied with food by the king's country. So
- 6:02on a set day, Herod, arrayed in royal apparel,
- 6:09sat on his throne and gave an oration to them.
- 6:14And the people kept shouting, the voice of a
- 6:17God and not of a man. And then immediately, an
- 6:22angel of the Lord struck him. Because he did
- 6:26not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms
- 6:31and died. But the word of God grew and multiplied.
- 6:37We'll stop right there. Father, I thank you for
- 6:40your word this morning. And I just ask that your
- 6:44anointing that is on your word would just flow
- 6:48through my words this morning. And I just ask
- 6:54that you would penetrate our hearts. Penetrate
- 6:58our hearts in Jesus' name. Amen. Now, Stephen
- 7:04was the first martyr of the church. You can read
- 7:06about that in Acts chapter 7. But this situation
- 7:10was a little bit different. Because this was
- 7:14the first of the twelve apostles. Judas was replaced
- 7:22by Matthias in Acts chapter 1. And of those 12,
- 7:27James was the first to be martyred. In time,
- 7:3411 of them would go on to be martyred. James'
- 7:38brother John, who wrote the book of Revelation
- 7:40late in life from the island of Patmos, would
- 7:45be the only one to die a natural death. You need
- 7:50to understand how James' death impacted the church.
- 7:58James was an apostle. Paul taught us in Ephesians
- 8:04chapter 2 that the household of God, verse 20,
- 8:10having been built... on the foundation of the
- 8:15apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ being himself
- 8:19the chief cornerstone in whom the whole building
- 8:23being fitted together grows into a holy temple
- 8:27in the Lord. Paul taught us that apostles and
- 8:31prophets were the foundation of the church. And
- 8:36the twelve had been the foundation of the church.
- 8:42Up until this time, the five -fold ministry is
- 8:46also listed in Ephesians chapter 4, apostle,
- 8:48prophet, pastor, teacher, evangelist. And Paul
- 8:53said that the five -fold ministry is God's gift
- 8:57to you so that you can mature and grow in your
- 9:00faith in Christ. And so there are people that
- 9:04are called into the ministry that this, that...
- 9:10Paul is describing here that God uses to equip
- 9:14the rest of the church to reach the lost and
- 9:19grow the kingdom of God. So apostles were, especially
- 9:26in that time period, viewed as incredibly important.
- 9:32I believe that apostles are incredibly important
- 9:34in today's time period as well. But we're talking
- 9:37here one of the twelve. And it impacted the church.
- 9:43Now, apostolic power was really important. In
- 9:53Acts chapter 7, when there was revival in Samaria,
- 9:57who did Philip call when they wanted to receive
- 10:01the baptism of the Holy Spirit? They called the
- 10:04apostles, and Peter and John came and laid hands
- 10:08on them, and they received the baptism of the
- 10:11Holy Spirit. We see in the next chapter, in chapter
- 10:158 and verse 1, when the dispersion came. This
- 10:19is when they tried to kick all of the Christians
- 10:21out of Jerusalem. It says in verse 1, at that
- 10:25time a great persecution arose against the church,
- 10:30which was at Jerusalem, and they were all scattered
- 10:34through the regions of Judea and Samaria, except
- 10:37the apostles. The apostles had staying power
- 10:45in the face of all of the government. And so
- 10:51you begin to understand their strength. In Acts
- 10:54chapter 2 and verse 42, it says, They continued
- 10:57steadfastly in the teaching of the apostles.
- 11:02apostles. They didn't have a New Testament. They
- 11:05didn't have a church full of teachers. They didn't
- 11:09have YouTube to go and listen to. They didn't
- 11:12have all of those things. The apostles teaching
- 11:15the foundational truths was what they had. And
- 11:19so they went from house to house. When problems
- 11:21arose in the church, they at one point came to
- 11:25the apostles and said, solve this problem for
- 11:29us. But listen to what the apostles said. Therefore,
- 11:32brethren, seek out from among you seven men of
- 11:36good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and
- 11:38wisdom, who we may appoint over this business,
- 11:42but we as apostles will give ourselves to prayer
- 11:46and to the ministry of the word. And so these
- 11:51were the apostles. And now James is arrested.
- 12:00Now his death came about more quickly because
- 12:02when Peter was arrested, the Passover came. But
- 12:07I want to ask you a question. Do you think when
- 12:10James, the apostle, was arrested by Herod that
- 12:15the church began to pray? I believe they did.
- 12:22I believe that the church began to call out on
- 12:25God. I don't believe that they just like Peter
- 12:28better than James. For Pete's sake. That came
- 12:39from the depths of my soul. They prayed for James
- 12:46to be released. They sought God. They sought
- 12:54the Lord. For his release. But what happened?
- 13:03James. The apostle. Was put to death. By the
- 13:09sword. These believers. You need to remember.
- 13:16Did you know that all the apostles had been in
- 13:19prison before? All of them. Let me read it to
- 13:23you. Acts 5 .17. Then the high priest rose up
- 13:27and all those who were with him, which is the
- 13:28sect of the Sadducees, they were filled with
- 13:31indignation and laid their hands on the apostles
- 13:34and put them in the common prison. This is all
- 13:39of them. But at night, an angel of the Lord opened
- 13:42the prison doors and brought them out and said,
- 13:46go stand in the temple and speak to the people
- 13:49all the words of this life. And the story goes
- 13:51on. James had been in prison before. Peter had
- 13:56been in prison before. The angel of the Lord
- 13:59had come and set them all free before. And so
- 14:03they knew that God could work an incredible miracle.
- 14:08And now James is arrested and the church is praying.
- 14:15But he's put to the sword. And I want to ask
- 14:20you a question this morning. What are you going
- 14:24to do in your relationship with God when he does
- 14:32not answer your prayer? What are you going to
- 14:52do? We could just try to move on from the situation
- 15:02that has just happened. But how many of you were
- 15:07believing for Gary's healing? Yeah. Did you know
- 15:13that even one of the Illinois basketball players
- 15:16was praying for Gary's healing? In the final
- 15:21four. I thought, who in this, Church has reach
- 15:28like that. God didn't answer our prayer. And
- 15:38we find ourselves in the middle of Acts chapter
- 15:4012. What are we going to do when God colors outside
- 15:50the lines? Let me just share a few things here
- 15:53that are true. One, life. sometimes happens outside
- 15:59the lines of your theological box. People have
- 16:07asked me, was it God that took Gary? And I don't
- 16:19have an answer. I don't have an answer. But I
- 16:29know this, that God sometimes colors outside
- 16:32of my box. Things happen in this life that don't
- 16:38fit neatly into the things that I believe. And
- 16:44they're challenging. And God is showing us in
- 16:50situations like this because you've all been
- 16:52there. In fact, you can think of other times
- 16:54in your life when you said, why God? did this
- 16:59happen? And the truth is that he is bigger than
- 17:06our understanding. The second thing is this,
- 17:10that God is God and we are not. And you have
- 17:17to be okay with that. I refer to the passage
- 17:24that says this, my thoughts are not your thoughts,
- 17:28nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. For
- 17:31as the heavens are higher than the earth, so
- 17:33are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts
- 17:37than your thoughts. And as much as God reveals
- 17:43to us, he doesn't reveal everything to us. And
- 17:48the passage in 1 Corinthians 13 that says this,
- 17:52for now we see in a mirror, And there are times
- 18:00in our lives where we feel like I am seeing clearly.
- 18:04Everything is being blessed. Everything is happening
- 18:09the way it's supposed to happen. I am seeing
- 18:11clearly. But then there are times that smack
- 18:15us in the face with the truth of this word that
- 18:18we see dimly as in a mirror. He goes on and he
- 18:26says, now I know in part, but then I shall know
- 18:31fully. And that's where Gary's at right now.
- 18:33He sees face to face and he doesn't speak in
- 18:36tongues anymore. For the first time in his life,
- 18:39he doesn't need to speak in tongues anymore.
- 18:41You know, tongues are for this side of eternity.
- 18:45They're not for that side of eternity. He sees
- 18:49face to face. And that's good news. We see as
- 18:57in the darkened glass, the King James says. And
- 19:01fourthly, there are mysteries in the faith that
- 19:06we cannot solve. When I was studying this passage
- 19:11in Acts chapter 12, the Fire Bible notes say
- 19:17this, quote, God allowed James, the brother of
- 19:22John, And one of Jesus' closest original disciples
- 19:28to die. Yet he sent an angel to rescue Peter.
- 19:34That James should die while Peter lived for further
- 19:40ministry is an example of the mysterious way
- 19:44of God with his people. James had the honor of
- 19:51being the first of Jesus' original disciples
- 19:53to be martyred in his faith in Christ. End of
- 20:01quote. It's a mystery why God answers this prayer
- 20:06and not that one. We sing a song here sometimes
- 20:09called Miracles. I believe in you. I believe
- 20:13in you. You're the God of miracles. The author
- 20:19of that song wrote that song just after his child
- 20:23passed away. And yet he still stood before the
- 20:29church and said, I believe in you. You're the
- 20:34God of miracles. Do you think that father has
- 20:39an answer? And you're connecting with some of
- 20:43this because you have had questions in your life.
- 20:49And I just want to just draw off this passage
- 20:53and say, so what should I do? What should I do
- 20:57when I don't understand what God has done? And
- 21:03the first thing that I want to call you to church
- 21:07is this, to keep believing God. I want to say
- 21:14that again, and I want to hear somebody say amen
- 21:17when I say it. God wants us to keep believing
- 21:21him. Amen? He wants us to keep believing him.
- 21:26Our role is to believe God. Hallelujah. And in
- 21:33Hebrews chapter 11, it says this. These all died
- 21:37in faith, not having received the promises, but
- 21:41having seen them afar off, were assured of them,
- 21:45embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers
- 21:49and pilgrims on the earth. Did you catch that?
- 21:53God gave them promises and they said, Lord, I
- 21:56believe your promises. But they died having not
- 22:01received the fulfillment of the promise. And
- 22:05sometimes that's the way that it is. That we
- 22:08believe, we continue to believe God. Do you know
- 22:12what brings pleasure to God? Do you know what
- 22:15brings pleasure to Him? Faith. Without faith,
- 22:20it is impossible to please God. So what is it
- 22:24that pleases God? When a son, when a daughter
- 22:27stands and says, I believe you. Hallelujah. I
- 22:34believe God. I am standing in the place of faith.
- 22:38You know what? You're bringing pleasure to the
- 22:41Lord. And so I want to call you, and if you've
- 22:45had something happen that you don't understand,
- 22:47that God hasn't given you an answer on, or that
- 22:51He hasn't answered your prayer, or if heaven
- 22:54has been silent on something, I want to encourage
- 22:57you to dig your spiritual heels in and keep believing
- 23:01God anyway, church. Keep believing God anyway.
- 23:05Come on. Secondly, I want to call you. to keep
- 23:10giving yourself to prayer. God did not answer
- 23:17their prayer for James. And when Peter was arrested,
- 23:22did they throw up their hands and say, well,
- 23:25I guess it's going to happen to Peter too. That's
- 23:30not what they did. What did they do? They turned
- 23:36up. their prayer even higher. And they sought
- 23:41the Lord. You notice that phrase, it said, but
- 23:44constant prayer was offered to God. And we can
- 23:49infer that that prayer was on Peter's behalf.
- 23:56Let me ask you another question. Did these believers
- 24:02all have absolute, pure faith that Peter would
- 24:10be released? When Rhoda came with the news that
- 24:19Peter was free, they said, no. That can't be.
- 24:30The moral of the story is don't send someone
- 24:33named Rhoda to the door. Hopefully, is anybody
- 24:38here named Rhoda? It's a beautiful name. They
- 24:50didn't even believe, they didn't have full faith.
- 24:57Yet, what did they do? They prayed anyway. They
- 25:04prayed anyway. Can I encourage you to not allow
- 25:08your feelings to determine whether you're going
- 25:14to pray or not? What your mind is telling you
- 25:18is sometimes different than what you know to
- 25:23be the word of God. Can I encourage you to ignore
- 25:26what your mind is telling you? Can I encourage
- 25:29you all those feelings that are trying to bring
- 25:32you down? Well, it didn't happen last month.
- 25:34It didn't happen last week. I guess it's not
- 25:38going to happen this week. Can I encourage you
- 25:40to tune out those voices and to pray anyway?
- 25:46Hallelujah. When you don't have absolute faith,
- 25:50pray anyway. When you're discouraged and don't
- 25:54understand, pray anyway. These believers gathered
- 25:59to pray and they doubled down. And they said,
- 26:04we're still going to trust in our Savior. Hallelujah.
- 26:10Number three, when you don't understand. Guard
- 26:15yourself from getting bitter. Guard yourself
- 26:25from getting offended with the Lord. There was
- 26:33a prophet that Jesus said was the greatest of
- 26:36all the prophets. Anybody know his name? John
- 26:42the Baptist. John the Baptist. He was Jesus'
- 26:48cousin. Related by earthly blood. Arrested. And
- 26:57he's in prison. And he had baptized Jesus. He
- 27:05had prophesied over him. Behold the Lamb of God
- 27:09that takes away the sin of the world. He had
- 27:12baptized people alongside of Jesus' disciples
- 27:16later on. He had watched. Jesus' ministry increased,
- 27:25and what did he say? He must increase, I must
- 27:28decrease. He was an awesome man of God. And while
- 27:34he's in prison, and he sends some of his disciples,
- 27:39and he said, would you go and ask Jesus, are
- 27:43you the one or are we to wait for another? And
- 27:47after seeing everything that John the Baptist
- 27:50saw, you would think that by then he would know
- 27:55the answer. He had heard all of the reports.
- 28:02And so they came, and this is what Jesus said
- 28:07in Matthew 11 verse 4. Jesus answered and said
- 28:11to them, go and tell John the things you see
- 28:14and hear. The blind see, the lame walk, the lepers
- 28:19are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised,
- 28:21the poor have the gospel preached to them. Well,
- 28:27can I tell you something? John already knew all
- 28:32of that. John knew that there were miracles.
- 28:42John knew. That the blind saw and the dead were
- 28:47raised and the lame walked. John knew all of
- 28:50that. Do you know what Jesus is saying to John?
- 28:58He's saying this. John, I'm not going to tell
- 29:02you. I'm not going to answer your question. And
- 29:12then he said this. And blessed is he who is not
- 29:18offended because of me. Right now, the spirit
- 29:30of offense is raging through the church. We're
- 29:36offended with people for how they voted. We're
- 29:41offended with people for disagreeing in different
- 29:48ways. Did you know that we can get offended with
- 29:53God for things that happen in our lives? People
- 29:59live in bitterness toward the Lord for decades.
- 30:05Because of that time, God didn't answer my prayer.
- 30:13Blessed is he who is not offended with me. Blessed
- 30:18is he who, when they don't understand, hold fast.
- 30:29Jesus would later say to Thomas after he was
- 30:33raised from the dead, He, because Thomas said,
- 30:38unless I see, unless I see Jesus, unless I put
- 30:41my hands, my fingers in the holes in his hand
- 30:45and his side, I will not believe. And Jesus appeared
- 30:48to Thomas and said, Thomas, come here. Put your
- 30:51hands, put your fingers in my hands. Touch my
- 30:54side. Touch my side. Thomas, and Thomas said,
- 30:58Lord, I believe. And Jesus said something. He
- 31:02said, blessed are those who have not seen and
- 31:07yet believe. Now there are areas of your life
- 31:12where you see Jesus at work and you go, hallelujah,
- 31:16I believe. I see the miracle. I see God at work.
- 31:22It's powerful in my life. But what are you going
- 31:26to do when you don't see? Blessed are those who
- 31:32do not see and still believe. Hallelujah. You
- 31:41have things happen in your life that you don't
- 31:43understand, but you say, you know what, God?
- 31:45I am still going to believe you. Who out there
- 31:50will say that? I want to be like that. I want
- 31:53to be like that. I want to be somebody that believes
- 31:55no matter what. Oh, my God. Friend, lay down
- 31:59your bitterness and your offense. Do you know
- 32:01what you can do? You can just come to the Lord
- 32:03and you can say, God, I allowed... bitterness
- 32:06to come into my heart. Would you release me from
- 32:10this bitterness? Will you just release me from
- 32:12this offense? I've been offended with you, God,
- 32:15and so I've been holding you at arm's length.
- 32:18I don't want to do that anymore. Will you wash
- 32:20me in your blood? Will you forgive me, God? And
- 32:23will you help me be a person that is not offended
- 32:27with you, that is blessed? Because I believe
- 32:30no matter what. Do you know you can pray that
- 32:32prayer this morning, and you can believe for
- 32:34that to happen in you? your life. I've got one
- 32:39more thing I want to share here in just a moment,
- 32:41but I want to commend those of you who believed
- 32:46for Gary's healing right up until the final moment.
- 32:52I was there when several of you were praying
- 32:55over Gary, believing for healing. And I was there
- 32:59as Gary was declaring just a couple of days before
- 33:04he passed, I am healed in Jesus' name. He was
- 33:07declaring that. And I want to commend those of
- 33:11you that stood in faith till the final moment.
- 33:16That brings pleasure to God. And Gary was believing.
- 33:23Even the day before, I laid hands on him and
- 33:25I said, be healed in the name of Jesus. And he
- 33:28was receiving that prayer. Many of you were praying.
- 33:34And I want to commend those of you that have
- 33:36taken a hard look into your own life. More than
- 33:42one of you has come to me and said something
- 33:45to this effect. Pastor, I saw. That Gary's life
- 33:51counted for something. And I want my life to
- 33:57count for something. And some of you have taken
- 34:01an introspective look and said, what can I do
- 34:05to make my life count for something? And I want
- 34:11to commend you for that. And there are many across
- 34:14this city right now. That are saying that same
- 34:17thing. I want my life to count for something.
- 34:22Hallelujah. Praise the Lord. And although I don't
- 34:28understand it all. I know this. God is not going
- 34:31to waste the death of his servant. And any suffering.
- 34:36God does not waste suffering in the kingdom of
- 34:40God. He uses it for his glory. And he transforms
- 34:44many. Jesus said of his own life, he said, unless
- 34:49a seed dies and falls to the ground, it doesn't
- 34:52produce fruit. And I feel the same way for Gary,
- 34:56that a seed has fallen to the ground and it is
- 34:59going to produce fruit in people's lives across
- 35:02this entire region in the name of Jesus. Hallelujah.
- 35:09Church, you have done well. Keep. Believing God.
- 35:19Keep believing God. I want to conclude with the
- 35:27phrase that we see during Herod's tragic death.
- 35:33He set himself against God. In verse 21, it says
- 35:42this. A set day, Herod. A set day. On Tuesday,
- 36:05during my devotions, I normally read four chapters
- 36:10in my devotions. And on Tuesday, I read two verses.
- 36:16And I was reading in Genesis chapter 21, and
- 36:21it said this, for Sarah conceived and bore Abraham
- 36:24a son in his old age at the set time of which
- 36:30God had spoken to him. Everybody say set time.
- 36:35So in Herod's case, we have a set day. In Sarah's
- 36:38case, giving birth to Isaac, we have a set time.
- 36:44And that was actually foreshadowing another miracle
- 36:48birth that would take place thousands of years
- 36:51later whose name was Jesus. In Galatians chapter
- 36:554, it says this, when the fullness of time had
- 36:59come, God sent forth his son to be born of a
- 37:05virgin whose name was Mary. And so we have a
- 37:09set time for Herod. We have a set time for Sarah.
- 37:13We have a set time for Mary giving birth to Jesus.
- 37:16These are all set times. I began to think of
- 37:21Daniel. Listen to this. In Daniel chapter 9 and
- 37:24verse 2, Daniel, who had been deported to Babylon
- 37:28as a teenager, is now in his 80s and later in
- 37:33his life. And in Daniel 9 -2, it says, in the
- 37:36first year, of the reign of the king, of the
- 37:39new king, I, Daniel, understood by the books
- 37:42the number of the years specified by the word
- 37:47of the Lord through Jeremiah the prophet that
- 37:50he would accomplish 70 years in the desolation
- 37:53of Jerusalem. Let me translate that for you.
- 37:57Jeremiah said that the exile into Babylon would
- 38:02last for 70 years. And Daniel, now reading that,
- 38:07just did the math and said, 70 years are almost
- 38:12over. Do you know what Jeremiah was saying? There
- 38:17is a set time for deliverance, the deliverance
- 38:22of Israel. Hallelujah. And so we have a set day
- 38:28for Herod. We have a set time for Sarah and for
- 38:33Mary. And now we have a set day, a set year for
- 38:38deliverance from the exile into Babylon. These
- 38:43are moments in time that are fixed. Hebrews 9
- 38:49.27 applies to King Herod. It is appointed unto
- 38:54man once to die and then to face judgment. An
- 38:59appointed time. Wow. And I began to look through
- 39:07these scriptures. And I came across Psalm 102,
- 39:13verse 13. And I want to declare a set time over
- 39:21Faith Church this morning. I want to declare
- 39:26a set time of favor. Psalm 102 .13, when I read
- 39:35this on Tuesday morning, it went... And when
- 39:40we read this, I think Suzanne read this scripture
- 39:42at the seniors prayer meeting, which any seniors
- 39:45can come to. It's at one o 'clock on Wednesday
- 39:48afternoon. We can get you directions to be there.
- 39:50We had 10 people there last time. It was awesome.
- 39:54And when Suzanne read this scripture, the power
- 39:58of God was released into the room. And it was
- 40:02tangible. Those of you that, wave if you were
- 40:04there. Wasn't it tangible? It just went... And
- 40:12I just sat there kind of stunned at the power
- 40:16of the Word of God. And I want you to listen
- 40:19to this passage. Psalm 102 .13 You will arise
- 40:24and have mercy on Zion for the time to favor
- 40:31her. Yes, the set time has come. I want to read
- 40:39that again. Because I don't know if you picked
- 40:41up on that for you, for your family, for this
- 40:44house. I want to read it again. You will arise
- 40:47and you will have mercy on Zion for the time
- 40:52to favor her. Yes, the set time has come. There
- 41:03is a set time for Herod's death. There is a set
- 41:06time for Isaac's birth. There is a set time for
- 41:09the birth of the Messiah. There was a set time
- 41:12for the deliverance of the Israelites out of
- 41:16Babylon. And there is a set time for God to pour
- 41:22out favor on his people. Zion oftentimes represents
- 41:30the New Testament church. Friends, we are about
- 41:36to enter in to the days of favor. Will anybody
- 41:42say, I want that on my family. I want that for
- 41:45my life. I want the favor of God on my life.
- 41:51The favor of God. The favor of God is on this
- 41:56house. The favor of God is in this place. I believe
- 42:06that every person that attaches themselves to
- 42:08Faith Church will have the favor of God upon
- 42:11their family, upon their finances, upon every
- 42:14aspect of their life. The favor of God is going
- 42:18to come upon them. It's why healing happens.
- 42:21It's why restoration happens. It's why God gives
- 42:24back families in Jesus' name. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
- 42:29Hallelujah. God is doing incredible works in
- 42:33families right now, putting families back together,
- 42:39drawing families by His Spirit, bringing prodigals
- 42:43home, doing incredible things because the favor
- 42:46of God is on this house. The favor of God is
- 42:51on your life. I want to receive the favor of
- 42:56God in everything that He is bringing into my
- 43:01life. So I preached both of my messages this
- 43:07morning. And I want to give you an opportunity
- 43:11to respond if Alexander would come and the team
- 43:18to play. Maybe you've been in a place where You
- 43:29know you can't stay there any longer. Place that
- 43:36God's calling you from. And you know that there's
- 43:40a place that he is calling you to. And this morning
- 43:45you want God to do that work. Do you know the
- 43:47greatest miracle of all is when we give our life
- 43:53to Jesus. Hallelujah. And just as a quick bunny
- 44:01trail, the most important part of the celebration
- 44:06of life was when Kathy stood up and said, when
- 44:11Gary gave his life to Jesus, that the first word
- 44:16that was ever spoken to him was this, study to
- 44:19show yourself approved unto God. and that every
- 44:23morning he had his Bible open, studying to show
- 44:26himself approved unto God. And if you want to
- 44:30be a person of significance, if you want to make
- 44:34a difference in your world, there's no shortcuts.
- 44:38You can't just come down to the altar and have
- 44:41the pastor pray over you and then the rest of
- 44:44your life will be great. It doesn't work that
- 44:46way. You've got to get up tomorrow and you've
- 44:49got to read the word. And you've got to get up
- 44:51the next day and you've got to read the word.
- 44:53And you've got to get up the next day and the
- 44:55next day and the next day. And you've got to
- 44:57get yourself in the word of God. There is no
- 45:01shortcut. But there are moments in time where
- 45:06we make a turn and we say, God, I want my life
- 45:12to count. Maybe I've been a bit disillusioned.
- 45:17Maybe God has not met my expectations. But I
- 45:22am still going to serve Him. And I'm going to
- 45:27turn this morning and I'm going to say, God,
- 45:31I believe. you. God I believe you. I'm not abandoning
- 45:40my faith. I believe you. I believe you. This
- 45:53is our God. What a God. So, Father, in this room
- 46:13right now, there are people that you are calling
- 46:16by your spirit, saying, son, daughter, come up
- 46:24here. Come up here to a higher place. And you
- 46:33this morning, you want to answer that call. And
- 46:39you want to say, God, I want to step into everything
- 46:42that you've got for me. I want to enter in to
- 46:50the promise of God for my life. If that's you
- 46:55on the count of three, I just want you to stand
- 46:58up and come down to the altar. In the name of
- 47:01Jesus, whether it's one or whether it's 35 or
- 47:03the whole group, it does not matter. You just
- 47:06respond to what the Lord is doing in your life.
- 47:09Something is going to shift in your life this
- 47:13morning. In Jesus' mighty name. One, two, three.
- 47:21Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on.
- 47:31Hallelujah. Hallelujah. No more status quo. No
- 47:36more sitting on the sidelines. Come on. No more.
- 47:39No more. No more. No more. You're saying yes.
- 47:42You're saying yes to God this morning. Hallelujah.
- 47:46Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
