- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garren. All right, Well, I did
- 0:07Speaker 1: not get a chance to tell you about my dad's
- 0:10Speaker 1: last full day on Earth, which would have been April fourteenth,
- 0:13Speaker 1: twenty twenty three. It was a Friday because I was
- 0:18Speaker 1: busy honoring him in different ways and seeing a couple
- 0:20Speaker 1: of friends and working and also crying. I actually went
- 0:27Speaker 1: to the place I put his ashes at Zuchati Park,
- 0:30Speaker 1: and I bawled a lot because Ryan said, why don't
- 0:36Speaker 1: you go to Burking It was your dad's favorite place
- 0:37Speaker 1: around here, and you know, I was like, yes, And
- 0:40Speaker 1: then it hit me like a ton of bricks. And
- 0:44Speaker 1: I looked at every chair at Zuccoti Park yesterday on
- 0:46Speaker 1: April fourteenth, twenty twenty six, and I said, Man, I
- 0:50Speaker 1: miss him waiting for me after Episcopo show, or after
- 0:54Speaker 1: my shift or before my shift, just sitting there in
- 0:57Speaker 1: the beautiful sun. It was beautiful yesterday. It's nice out
- 0:59Speaker 1: today also. But I want to thoroughly document my dad's
- 1:06Speaker 1: final full day on Earth Friday, April fourteenth, twenty twenty three.
- 1:13Speaker 1: So here's how it happened. I stayed overnight in the
- 1:20Speaker 1: actually kitchen are the cafeteria area of the hospital, Soony downstate,
- 1:24Speaker 1: who did an incredible job to take care of my dad.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Go upstairs, see I was doing. He was still talking
- 1:35Speaker 1: and thank God for that. And then I said, I
- 1:39Speaker 1: have an idea. Let's get people that mattered to us
- 1:43Speaker 1: on the phone. So I started with I believe our
- 1:48Speaker 1: pastor Berga Solano, who of course was our good shepherd
- 1:53Speaker 1: Lutheran pastor up until twenty nineteen, and he was in
- 1:57Speaker 1: the church since the eighties. And she said, I don't
- 2:02Speaker 1: want to call it last, right, but she said to
- 2:03Speaker 1: her final prayer to him in both English and German,
- 2:07Speaker 1: that was pretty special. And he had a bit of
- 2:08Speaker 1: a smile in his face. Then I called Matt sam Bolan,
- 2:13Speaker 1: the operations manager at AM nine seven the Answer and
- 2:16Speaker 1: WMCA and someone who knew my dad through station events
- 2:19Speaker 1: and just my dad was very close to the radio
- 2:21Speaker 1: stations I work at. And he said, I hope to
- 2:26Speaker 1: see you walking down there with your plastic bags again,
- 2:29Speaker 1: and they're like my dad gave a big smile and
- 2:33Speaker 1: you could tell he was very lucid. This is the
- 2:34Speaker 1: beautiful thing about my dad. He had his brain up
- 2:37Speaker 1: until seven twenty six pm Saturday, April fifteenth, twenty twenty three.
- 2:44Speaker 1: He had his brain. His brain was working. He did
- 2:48Speaker 1: not pass away losing his mind. He had his mind
- 2:52Speaker 1: fully intact. And by the way, stay tuned for seven
- 2:55Speaker 1: to twenty six pm when I debut a little montage
- 2:59Speaker 1: of my dad. In case you didn't check it on Instagram,
- 3:01Speaker 1: you can for the leak if you will, but I'm
- 3:03Speaker 1: gonna play it on here. So it was on the
- 3:04Speaker 1: record in my one leogub Alex Media podcast. And then
- 3:10Speaker 1: my our friend Richard from the church, I called him
- 3:13Speaker 1: as well. So Richard was very instrumental in helping convince
- 3:16Speaker 1: my dad to get help when he needed it in
- 3:19Speaker 1: March of twenty three. We called him on April fourteenth,
- 3:22Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, and it was special. It was all special.
- 3:31Speaker 1: But what I did not get to tell people yesterday
- 3:39Speaker 1: that I can remember in trying to remember that day,
- 3:44Speaker 1: I was about to go home because I hadn't been overnight.
- 3:46Speaker 1: I wanted to shower. I figured he would stay overnight
- 3:50Speaker 1: and be alive to the fifteenth. So on my way out,
- 3:56Speaker 1: he's packing his bags, which I kind of knew was like, Okay,
- 3:59Speaker 1: this might be really the ending here. He's starting to
- 4:03Speaker 1: think about leaving the hospital. He says, you're thirty one
- 4:09Speaker 1: years old. Help me get out of the hospital. And
- 4:11Speaker 1: I said, Pop, you can't leave the hospital. But in
- 4:13Speaker 1: my back of my mind, I knew what he was saying.
- 4:16Speaker 1: He was telling me, and I did tell him at
- 4:19Speaker 1: some point, if you have to go, you have to go.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I don't want you to suffer anymore. But he kept
- 4:30Speaker 1: telling me, you're thirty one. Make a plan for us
- 4:32Speaker 1: to get out of this hospital. I want to get out.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I want to leave, and I'm as I look for
- 4:38Speaker 1: signs like that. I'm kind of spiritual like that, And
- 4:40Speaker 1: I said, Okay, he's talking to me in ways at
- 4:43Speaker 1: so he's ready to go. He's ready to cross over.
- 4:50Speaker 1: And I'll talk about more of this at seven twenty
- 4:52Speaker 1: six pm, the official passing time of my dad on
- 4:56Speaker 1: April fifteenth, twenty twenty three. But he wanted to be free,
- 5:08Speaker 1: which is interesting because I'm gonna go back to the
- 5:09Speaker 1: Daily Word from Unity Publications, Tuesday, April fourteenth, twenty twenty
- 5:14Speaker 1: six's message is I am gloriously free to Corinthians three seventeen.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit
- 5:23Speaker 1: of the Lord is, there is freedom. Looking back three
- 5:28Speaker 1: years later, I have been saying, for a little while,
- 5:31Speaker 1: I wish he was still here. He should still be here,
- 5:33Speaker 1: but his body was failing. And on April fourteenth, twenty
- 5:42Speaker 1: twenty three, what he was telling me was he wanted
- 5:44Speaker 1: to be free. He wanted to be free of the
- 5:48Speaker 1: suffering of the wires. He was not a guy that
- 5:51Speaker 1: want to be wired up. Okay, he dies. He never
- 5:54Speaker 1: want to be in the hospital for more than a minute. Literally,
- 5:57Speaker 1: he couldn't deal with it. He never even went so
- 6:01Speaker 1: he didn't want to be in the wires. He wanted
- 6:02Speaker 1: to have all the ivs. I'm sure he didn't want
- 6:04Speaker 1: to have the Catherine of the hat. He didn't want
- 6:06Speaker 1: to have all that. He wanted to be free of
- 6:10Speaker 1: all of it. And I'm sure of the suffering as well.
- 6:15Speaker 1: So when I read this passage, now, the Lord is
- 6:18Speaker 1: the spirit, and where the spirit of the Lord is
- 6:20Speaker 1: there is freedom. That exactly is what my dad was
- 6:24Speaker 1: looking for on April fourteenth, twenty twenty three. But it
- 6:30Speaker 1: was a spiritual moment that he kept telling me, I
- 6:32Speaker 1: want to get out of here. I need to get
- 6:34Speaker 1: out of here. You're thirty one. Helped me find a
- 6:36Speaker 1: way out, and I went home wondering if he would
- 6:47Speaker 1: make it through the night, because I knew that was
- 6:49Speaker 1: But I also went home to Queen's knowing this could
- 6:54Speaker 1: be it. And so I wake up. Well, I'm gonna
- 7:01Speaker 1: tell you this part for seven twenty six pm, But
- 7:05Speaker 1: basically I woke up and I get the call you
- 7:09Speaker 1: have to come to the hospital now. And in the
- 7:12Speaker 1: next episode, which I'm airing at seven twenty six pm
- 7:14Speaker 1: Eastern tonight, I will play you a montage and I've
- 7:23Speaker 1: really preserved my dad's voice the best I could, and
- 7:27Speaker 1: also tell you what happened after that call, because I
- 7:30Speaker 1: can remember it step by step, minute by minute. Stay
- 7:36Speaker 1: tuned for that at seven twenty six pm Eastern. I
- 7:39Speaker 1: just did not want to skip what happened on April fourteenth,
- 7:42Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, because that was a special day too.
- 7:45Speaker 1: We have people calling in to say their goodbyes. And
- 7:53Speaker 1: he was smiling, he was alert, he was reacting though
- 7:58Speaker 1: softer voice. But he was still with it on his
- 8:03Speaker 1: final full day on Earth. But you'll be surprised to
- 8:06Speaker 1: know he was still with it on his final day,
- 8:09Speaker 1: final day on this Earth. Find out more tonight at
- 8:13Speaker 1: seven twenty six p m Eastern when I launched that
- 8:16Speaker 1: podcast right here at one leg of alex Media,
