Transcript
- 0:00Hello there, it's time for most things Kenobi.
- 0:05I prefer all things Kenobi, but I suppose that's not the Jedi
- 0:08way as long as it's not all things Anakin.
- 0:25Hey everyone, welcome to another episode of most things Kenobi.
- 0:28A podcast about Obi-Wan Kenobi and all things Star Wars.
- 0:32I'm your host Leanne and I'm your host Lauren.
- 0:35And this week, we are talking about the genius and the talent
- 0:39that is Sam Witwer. Done to the voice of Darth Maul,
- 0:46amongst other things. He's also an on-screen actor.
- 0:50He does other voice acting other Star Wars characters.
- 0:56He doesn't. He's done it all and he does it.
- 0:58Well, honestly, he's an amazing Island.
- 1:01So talented really amazing, kind of blew my mind.
- 1:05Honestly, when, when I was first watching Clone Wars, it's crazy.
- 1:11When you look at Sam Witwer and then you hear him talk, he's
- 1:15very eloquent, he's well-versed in Star Wars stuff.
- 1:18I mean he is a nerd like the rest of us.
- 1:20He is here. He is into it which is great
- 1:23because That comes across in how he portrays his character and
- 1:27the amount of passion he puts into it.
- 1:28But then you hear him transform his voice.
- 1:32Yeah into Darth Maul and he put so much into it.
- 1:37It's like it's like heavy metal like front man, who sing.
- 1:42It's like how do they not lose their voice?
- 1:43Like, how does that even happen? You know, it's so true.
- 1:47It's so physical and if you ever have seen footage of him doing
- 1:50the recording session, so you can see he's very like
- 1:53Physically moving his body to get some of the passion
- 1:57especially the famous Kenobi scream?
- 2:00Yes. My favorite a lot of people's
- 2:03favorites, right? Yeah, exactly.
- 2:05He actually did it. No, I think it was on not.
- 2:10I was going to say Star Wars day but not Star Wars Day the Disney
- 2:12plus day. Oh dear.
- 2:14Yes, yes. Because everyone was waiting for
- 2:16the Kenobi stuff to drop so he did like a recreation of the
- 2:20that see which which thank you. We're Or for understanding us
- 2:25enough to go ahead and just kind of like troll us all with that
- 2:28life. I appreciate that.
- 2:32Yeah. Oh my God, he's got a, he's got,
- 2:34such a wicked sense of humor. I love it.
- 2:37I truly appreciate that. Yeah, and he's damn intelligent.
- 2:40He's very intelligent. Yeah, he gets it and he's so
- 2:45versed in Star Wars lore. It's kind of mind-blowing.
- 2:50Yes. Like, it's not even just that he
- 2:52knows it, he Is it at a whole different level than most
- 2:56people? It's pretty incredible.
- 2:58Granted, he's had the opportunity to pick both Dave,
- 3:01filoni and George. Lucas's brain on the subject.
- 3:04Oh my goodness. Yeah.
- 3:06Like he would win a Star Wars trivia night.
- 3:09No. But, speaking of which, can we
- 3:12just? Can we give you props right now?
- 3:15For your first Star Wars, Instagram hosted, trivia, that
- 3:18night that you did, the other night.
- 3:19It was amazing and fun. Thanks, I'm glad it was fun.
- 3:23It was the Little bit long. That's for sure.
- 3:26I think next time, I'll probably ask less questions but well, it
- 3:30you ask some questions that I had no idea and I learned a
- 3:32little bit myself. Why don't?
- 3:35I don't claim to know everything but that proved it be either.
- 3:39I tried to like, make sure the questions were something that I
- 3:42at least had a general idea of the answer before.
- 3:46I even like officially wrote the question down, but I was really
- 3:50proud of myself for stumping. Most of everybody.
- 3:54On that last question. Yeah, that last question was
- 3:56impressive. And the amount of knowledge that
- 3:59our listeners have the listeners that showed up to this.
- 4:02Thank you. My guy, the way you're all
- 4:03amazing and hilarious. The chat was lit.
- 4:05I loved it. Oh my God, it was so much fun.
- 4:08I was laughing my ass off. It was a great time.
- 4:11Everybody's so smart and witty and light friendly to everyone
- 4:16was just this kind to each other.
- 4:18It was really really refreshing. But Sam Witwer would have beat
- 4:21all of us. Oh, he would have kicked our
- 4:23ass. Yeah.
- 4:24Yeah he would have come in with hyphens and punctuation marks
- 4:27and things. You know the things we were
- 4:28talking with you were asking for proper spelling and punctuation
- 4:31for some of those about Sam Witwer would have shown up with
- 4:33all the appropriate hyphens. The and, like, in character, for
- 4:37all of the, I didn't think of that, but that's great.
- 4:40Yes, my God. Hey Sam.
- 4:42Can we get you on a trivia night, huh?
- 4:44Oh my God, come co-host, trivia night.
- 4:48That would be fun. We're from the same area.
- 4:51We're from the same part of true.
- 4:53You As was suburbs. So yes, come on home.
- 4:59You're like in the land of Lucas and Sam Witwer.
- 5:02Oh yeah, because George Lucas lives in Chicago.
- 5:04You're right. Got a place in Chicago.
- 5:06Yeah, yeah. I think his wife is kind of like
- 5:09an executive out here. So, they have a very fancy condo
- 5:13downtown. She on Michigan Avenue.
- 5:15Yeah, we can't talk about Sam Witwer.
- 5:17Without talking about Darth Maul.
- 5:19The two are forever linked. Yes synonymous.
- 5:23Well I was watching Clone Wars, you know, obsessively binge
- 5:27watching it and it was gonna be all right?
- 5:29And then dearth ball shows up in the minute he started.
- 5:33Speaking, my attention just went funnel focus on it because
- 5:39nobody else was performing their characters that way it was like
- 5:43coming out of the person's soul performing as Darth Maul and I
- 5:47had no idea who Sam Witwer was. So I immediately started looking
- 5:50him up just to see like who is producing.
- 5:53This voice, it's insane. And in fact for those who don't
- 5:57know, we always do this for our listeners.
- 6:00Who aren't in the know hmm. Sam Witwer is currently 44 years
- 6:05of age as of the time of this recording and he's a cutie.
- 6:08He's a handsome handsome man. Yeah.
- 6:11And the voice on him. It's naturally deep.
- 6:14And kind of, you know, it's there's some gut to it.
- 6:17Like the he has a lot of volume but the way he evokes like the
- 6:21pain, the torment. Mmm.
- 6:24Darkness of the character of Darth Maul.
- 6:26It's just come. So flawlessly it.
- 6:28I'm blown away. Every time I ever see a clip of
- 6:31him doing Darth Maul in like the recording studio.
- 6:35It's amazing. Look it up.
- 6:36If you haven't seen him actually do it.
- 6:38It's really phenomenal acting. I wonder if he's like, very
- 6:41physically exhausted after performing, have to believe.
- 6:44So it just seems like be draining and I'm sure they don't
- 6:48get it in one, take, not, because he's not amazing.
- 6:51But because there's different variances, they probably want to
- 6:54I don't claim to know anything, but I would assume there's more
- 6:56than one take on any given day. Right?
- 6:58Sure. So you have to do it over and
- 7:00over and over into a VOC that and that goes for any actor or
- 7:03actress really in a crying scene or a really emotional scene or a
- 7:06highly highly, you know, intense scene where you have to just
- 7:10keep doing it over and over and over.
- 7:11And I don't know how they do it. I missed a physical actors, any
- 7:15of them. I don't know how they do it.
- 7:16It's probably just go home and pass out.
- 7:19Totally. I would.
- 7:21Yeah, I don't do it and I just go Home and pass out after I
- 7:25work. I'm a week.
- 7:28Our work is just regular typing away sitting at the desk
- 7:33computer works. So now add screaming Kenobi at
- 7:36the top of. Yeah I can't imagine opening so
- 7:38good, so classic, he's literally gone.
- 7:41And Rewritten that character, basically, they took Ray Park in
- 7:45Han Solo or solo, a Star Wars story.
- 7:49His body, his face and put Sam Witwer as voice over it.
- 7:53Yeah, right. Yeah.
- 7:55Which they did in Phantom Menace.
- 7:57Re-park, wasn't the voice in Phantom Menace, so he's just,
- 8:01he's just got that very specific physical.
- 8:04He does and he's really, really good at wielding a lightsaber
- 8:08like my gosh. Yeah, he like invented the staff
- 8:11fighting style is, incredible is amazing.
- 8:14And then you did the the mocap for it and season says, see
- 8:18isn't 7 also for Clone Wars. That's right, I forgot.
- 8:22They did that. You're right.
- 8:23Yeah, which was pretty bad. So amazing.
- 8:25Yeah, actually, so kudos to Ray Park for like actually bringing
- 8:28the physicality of Darth Maul originally right though?
- 8:32I will say I would not mind seeing a live action version of
- 8:35Mall starring Sam Witwer. He could, he could do it if it's
- 8:40the same thing. As Matt Lanter.
- 8:42Being a live-action Anakin it would be pretty fucking great to
- 8:45see like live-action versions of Clone Wars Episodes.
- 8:50Yeah, actually eckstine as a Sokka.
- 8:53It. Yes, bring it.
- 8:55She could do it, shut up and take my money.
- 9:02So Sam Witwer doesn't just voice Mall in Clone Wars.
- 9:07The first time he was on Clone Wars was in the mortise Arc,
- 9:10which most people, I think know this by now, but he played the
- 9:13son here was so good. Is that?
- 9:16Yes. And not immediately recognized a
- 9:19sandwich where if you listen to it, I mean, he changes his
- 9:21voice. I mean that's The thing about
- 9:24voice actors is, I don't know how they do it.
- 9:26I mean that when he said is his own voice.
- 9:28Yeah. And then he but I didn't I
- 9:31didn't immediately put it to like Sam.
- 9:34Hey neither, I had watched it got to the part with mall and
- 9:39then looked up the actor and I was like wait a minute.
- 9:41I've already seen him in Clone Wars.
- 9:44What the hell? Yeah actually the first time I
- 9:47watched the mortise Arc I thought it was Matt Lanter doing
- 9:51both parts oh because their voices.
- 9:53So similar at the time, do have very deep voices, both of them
- 9:58because I was like, maybe they're trying to make like a
- 10:01mirror of Anakin's so they're having lanter.
- 10:03Do like a darker version but then I found it wasn't.
- 10:06It was Sam Witwer and I was just like my mind is just blown.
- 10:09It is exploding inside my brain. He's also the voice of if anyone
- 10:15is familiar with the video games, he is Star Killer which
- 10:18is The Apprentice of Darth Vader.
- 10:21Yeah in the Years following Revenge of the Sith as I recall.
- 10:25Hmm. And his his the character will
- 10:29Galen Marek also known as Star Killer is actually modeled after
- 10:34Sam Witwer physically. Yeah, because he well he said
- 10:37that his friend I think it was like a friend of his was working
- 10:41on the project texted him and said could you send us a head
- 10:44shot because I'm working on this thing for Star Wars and like you
- 10:47already look like the character. Hmm and he said something about
- 10:51like Darth Vader's apprentice and and then Wentworth was like,
- 10:54excuse me, Darth Vader, has it apprentice and so he wanted ah,
- 10:59yeah. He's in over his head shot and
- 11:02everybody could already see him as the character because he
- 11:05already looked like the character at the time.
- 11:07So then they just motion captured him.
- 11:09And it's pretty awesome. I've always wanted to get into
- 11:12the, is it for Shannon force, unleashed the force unleashed.
- 11:16Yes. Yeah.
- 11:18Their novels too. Aren't they?
- 11:19They were novelized. I think, I think they turned
- 11:22them into books. Books.
- 11:23If they unless they started his books and became games but I
- 11:27thought they were the game's first.
- 11:29He also does other things besides acting.
- 11:33He has a new album out an album. I don't know.
- 11:37I did not know this. Yeah.
- 11:38His whole band called the crash tones and they just released a
- 11:43full album recently. Its kind of, I love the art that
- 11:47he uses for all of his craft shown stuff.
- 11:50It's so like it's got like a tone of 80s.
- 11:54But also like 1950s sci-fi, it's so great.
- 11:57I love the aesthetic. I see it.
- 12:00I like it. Mmm.
- 12:01I'm very excited to listen to it and see and it makes sense
- 12:04because he's so good with his voice.
- 12:06And he is such a nice tone that. It's no surprise that he would
- 12:09be like, oh great singers. Well, so excited to check that
- 12:12out. They have some other.
- 12:14I think they might have an older album too.
- 12:16But this one is new and then he also has a book, a Dungeons &
- 12:19Dragons book that he did with his brother.
- 12:22I love that. Yeah, it's like a collection of
- 12:25art. See Dungeons and Dragons art and
- 12:28Arcana Arjun Arcana. I don't know how to say it hot.
- 12:32How interesting I love this though.
- 12:35Cool. It's like a Visual History.
- 12:37Like a an art book kind of the history of Dungeons and Dragons
- 12:41which totally makes sense. He is so of that era.
- 12:44He really is though. It's so classic turns out he
- 12:48also voices in the Star Wars squadrons video game which is
- 12:53actually That I really wanted to try.
- 12:55But I'm terrible at like, flight in Flight gaming, first person
- 13:00shooters and any kind of flying game too much.
- 13:03For my brain, you might I'm 38 and it's too much give me a good
- 13:13old roleplay game and let me explore my Countryside on my own
- 13:17pace. Can't do these things that
- 13:21require eyesight. But you work by candlelight.
- 13:32I inscribe all of my stories into stone, that's why we're
- 13:37finish up. We send messages to each other
- 13:41by a carrier pigeon. I love it.
- 13:44I actually think he does, like background voices for almost all
- 13:48Star Wars stuff. I know he did one every sequel
- 13:52Trilogy episode. Did background voices.
- 13:55He did Stormtrooper voices, I think in Rogue one.
- 13:58So yeah. He's on the roster I guess for,
- 14:02like all three. I love it.
- 14:03Well, it makes sense because he's fantastic.
- 14:06Yeah, I would love though one day.
- 14:08Please give him a live action role in Star Wars like in Star
- 14:13Wars. Yes.
- 14:14Yeah. I am waiting for that day
- 14:17because it would be so good because he's super good in life.
- 14:19Actually to like, I love to show Being Human.
- 14:23I was Just going to ask you about that because you told me
- 14:25about it and I watched a couple scenes and I'm like, oh God it's
- 14:30Saucy, you have not signed. Yeah, you not mind a lot of
- 14:37blood because there's a lot of blood because he's a vampire,
- 14:40which is just its own, its own thing altogether.
- 14:44But the premise of the show is that a ghost, a werewolf and a
- 14:48vampire share a house in Canada. Oh, my God.
- 14:53Tada, what can I love that? It's in Canada?
- 15:00Well, I know is filmed there, maybe it doesn't take place
- 15:02there. I think it's maybe it's Boston,
- 15:04but I'm for sure, no, no. I want them to be in Canada.
- 15:07It gives a whole, a peaceful Edge to the fact that it's a
- 15:11ghost, a werewolf and a vampire, but they're all very friendly.
- 15:14I we love Canada here, I love my God.
- 15:17Yeah, I spent half of my life in Canada well because whenever I
- 15:21can conveniently located for You I am currently located.
- 15:25Yes, when I lived in La, people thought I was from Canada
- 15:29because I haven't been questioned your voice.
- 15:32Yeah you know what's funny is it that just reminded me that every
- 15:34single place I've ever worked throughout my career has been
- 15:38attached to Canada by one of its borders literally and I would
- 15:42say we're back to protect privacy and what have you but
- 15:45yeah every single one of the places.
- 15:47So now everybody's brains are running like new Which states
- 15:50has she been to you have been to, I Believe been very kind.
- 15:53Very conveniently located to Canada and I've always taken
- 15:56advantage of that so that's nice.
- 15:58I've always wanted to go there. Never saw any vampire Whitworth,
- 16:02unfortunately. Yeah, you really missed out.
- 16:04Then girl. Had missed the cabin, are they
- 16:07in? I need to go there now.
- 16:09They're like in a, like a historic like row house.
- 16:14That makes sense. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to
- 16:16take place in Boston, but either way the, the show is super
- 16:19entertaining. It's a remake of a British show.
- 16:22I've not see the British show. I've only I've seen parts of it,
- 16:24but I did watch all of the American version because Sam
- 16:28Witwer is in it, and he's great, it's very wampie.
- 16:31There's a lot of like brutality and it's not for everybody, but
- 16:35yeah, it was entertaining. Well, one of my best friends
- 16:38loved the show Riverdale and Sam Witwer is a recurring character
- 16:42on Riverdale, which I have never seen any of those episodes.
- 16:46But when we were at Comic-Con my best friend, got to go meet the
- 16:49cast of Riverdale, really but Sam was not there.
- 16:54It's too bad. I know because we were excited
- 16:57thinking, maybe Darth Maul would be at a panel, but yeah, no, but
- 17:00he also starred on Riverdale, which is a very popular
- 17:03television series seen any of Riverdale, but I've heard good
- 17:06things. Do you know that he also voices
- 17:08husai on in the Star Wars resistance television series,
- 17:11which I pay, it is what it is. But I had no desire to watch
- 17:15that one. No offense, no tried the shading
- 17:19and animation isn't my style. Well, I tried it.
- 17:22I gave it a good life. Like good try and just didn't
- 17:25grab me. Yeah, I think it's honestly,
- 17:27it's for younger generation. Maybe, I don't sweat it.
- 17:31Okay. Well, I passed it by not because
- 17:34I'm, I mean, we don't have to consume every trooping.
- 17:38Listen, I can't you at this point, I can't keep up with two
- 17:42things Star Wars and Marvel, it's out of my control at this
- 17:46point. It used to be within my control
- 17:48of being like, well up on everything and there's just too
- 17:51much and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
- 17:53There's For everybody out there in Marvel and Star Wars.
- 17:56But it's too much for one person to try and thank God.
- 17:59There's multiple podcast in multiple media Outlets out there
- 18:02who's covering it because otherwise I'd be lost.
- 18:04Well it's if it's a full-time job to even like follow even on
- 18:10a small remote level the amount of content coming out it's
- 18:13probably too much content so yeah I can't keep up with it
- 18:16either and honestly I'm a little annoyed because it's like
- 18:19they're not even staggering properly, it's like stuff.
- 18:23Rarely ends before, the next thing comes in and it's just
- 18:26like a constant Deluge of content which is honestly making
- 18:31it harder to absorb and appreciate what already exists.
- 18:35So I'm okay with stuff slowing down a bit but maybe that just
- 18:40probably makes me sound like an old geezer.
- 18:42No, not at all. I don't think so.
- 18:44I mean, we originally original trilogy, people didn't get
- 18:48anything for like, what 30 years?
- 18:52Yeah. Yeah.
- 18:52Forever. Now it's like every six months
- 18:55something new is coming out, Mandalorian is already on season
- 18:583 and we haven't even gotten any of the other stuff coming out.
- 19:01It's like book a Boba Fett. I like Boba Fett when we didn't
- 19:05know anything about him, it was spookier.
- 19:08Now we're going to get a hold of this fucking true.
- 19:11So it's true. I'm like okay.
- 19:13With some stuff not having answers to the questions,
- 19:16sometimes it's fun to just have it be a mystery.
- 19:18I'm going to admit something publicly for the first time.
- 19:22Are you sure? You want to do this?
- 19:25Like I'm ready. I think I'm ready.
- 19:27I'm here to catch. Whatever it is.
- 19:28You're ready to throw? Okay, listeners, don't hate me.
- 19:33Will you can hate me? I can't control you.
- 19:36I have never liked Boba Fett. I don't care.
- 19:40I don't care. I have never cared.
- 19:43That's how I feel about Django. I just don't care.
- 19:50Got his head chopped off. Well well okay I mean that's
- 19:53sad. Oh whatever it has literally
- 19:55nothing to do with the actor, the actor is awesome.
- 19:58Oh yeah, no this is this, this is complete separation, it's
- 20:01really more like character. Like I just liked Boba standing
- 20:05in the background, being a mystery, it Empire Strikes Back,
- 20:08he shows up and it's like, who the fuck is that?
- 20:11Who is this guy? Yeah, he's got a really
- 20:13embarrassing, death and Return of the Jedi.
- 20:15But well, let's talk about Turn of the Jedi because Sam Witwer.
- 20:19Thanks, it's genius. And I agree with Sam Witwer.
- 20:21Yeah. His explanation of it is just
- 20:23like fucking mind-blowing. He really gets Luke Luke.
- 20:27Well, I don't know if it's still since now.
- 20:29There's all sorts of new characters, but he is originally
- 20:32said that Luke was his favorite character.
- 20:34Oh, Sam. I know, right?
- 20:37Me too. But for real, like he he just
- 20:45gets it. I mean, have you ever Have you
- 20:47ever heard him talk about Return of the Jedi?
- 20:50Yeah there's a YouTube video that I've seen.
- 20:53It's actually I think maybe like a radio interview or like a
- 20:56podcast interview but also shares and like a radio
- 20:59interview. Yeah, it's so good work because
- 21:01like, you know, everyone should talk to the Ewoks and I'm here
- 21:03to admit, I think the Ewoks are fucking annoying, but I
- 21:06understand why they're important.
- 21:10Yes, right. And so to Sam Witwer, but just
- 21:12just just to see if my best friend is out there by mail best
- 21:16friend. If he's listening, he literally
- 21:19just lost his mind at you, saying, you happy that he walks,
- 21:22he loves the Ewoks. Forgive me there?
- 21:26No. Hi look.
- 21:27He's they are actually, they really are forgive me my friend,
- 21:36but yes, like it goes on too long, but I understand why
- 21:41they're important and it's the whole element of nature versus
- 21:45technology and like, Troll compassion versus sterile
- 21:51mechanical technology. That's going to come in,
- 21:54overrun. You still need the soul, right?
- 21:56And so is the representation, the Ewok has a representation of
- 22:01Mother Earth and the soul. And in fact, it's a theme we see
- 22:05repeated in a lot of Dave filoni.
- 22:07He's works. And a lot of the Star Wars stuff
- 22:09that we see with, you know, filoni but kind of behind it.
- 22:13Is this overarching theme of the Little guy wins even with less
- 22:19technology less skill. But it's because they have the
- 22:22heart and the soul, and they're defending something they love
- 22:25and, and they have the Jedi helping them.
- 22:27And it's a thing you see repeated in Star Wars.
- 22:30Yeah. Quite a bit in the Clone Wars
- 22:33but it originates, I think with the Ewoks and Luke is there and
- 22:37Sam Witwer goes on to describe that Luke is there to show like,
- 22:40hey hon chill, we don't need to use Force, give him, give them
- 22:44your gun, mmm, they're not going to cook us over the Over the
- 22:47fire, you know, and like they're, you know, Leia had
- 22:51compassion for them and it's, I think Sam compared it to like
- 22:54Yoda. It's the thing you're not
- 22:57expecting. Yeah, teaches you, the lesson
- 22:59like you're expecting this Grandmaster, you know, giant
- 23:03powerful Jedi, but really, it comes in pocket-sized Yoda, you
- 23:06know. And so it's kind of the same
- 23:08thing with the ER, yeah. Because we were was saying like,
- 23:10a lot of people are like, why is Luke even on Endor?
- 23:13Yeah, that's what he was bringing up.
- 23:15He could just like bypassing go, right?
- 23:17To his confrontation, with the emperor.
- 23:19And like, nowadays, they would probably do that with the
- 23:21character but back in the 70s and the early 80s when they were
- 23:25making these movies, like, George Lucas was holding firm to
- 23:29his mythology. The original mythology that that
- 23:32Star Wars was based on. And so, Luke goes to end or this
- 23:37is all Sam went worse theory. Yes.
- 23:39That were talking about the satin mine but I completely
- 23:42agree with this. So do I look goes to end or to
- 23:46be that bridge, right? Of like, showing that he did
- 23:49learn a lesson in Empire, Strikes Back from Yoda and he's
- 23:52in passing that on to Han and the whole point like I love what
- 23:57were we saying about the scene in The Hut?
- 23:59When the, the Ewoks are kind of talking amongst themselves and
- 24:03Leia says, you know, what's going on, I don't know.
- 24:06And then they take a quick cook to Luke, he knows what's going
- 24:10on. Like he knows what they're
- 24:12saying, he knows what they're talking about and he's like my
- 24:14work here is done. Hmm, this is why I was here.
- 24:17Now because like he even says, I shouldn't have come.
- 24:19I endangered the mission. Yeah.
- 24:21You know earlier in the movie and then he realized.
- 24:23Right? This is why I was here.
- 24:24Okay? Yeah, yeah.
- 24:26And it like ties the ending together.
- 24:28It's like ties those points together and I think that was a
- 24:31really beautiful observation by Sam that like yes, it's like
- 24:36kind of like get it but he verbalizes stuff so well.
- 24:39Yes he really does. He's he really knows his stuff.
- 24:44Yeah. And it shows in the way.
- 24:47He very eloquently describes, what I think we all get with
- 24:52Star Wars, but he it's the same thing as listening to Dave
- 24:55filoni. Speak about it.
- 24:57You know, these people that really digest the Star Wars and
- 25:00then present it in a, in a way that's like, yeah, I knew that.
- 25:03But they, they say, it's so well.
- 25:06Mmm and Sam weren't was one of them.
- 25:08He loves Star Wars. Yeah, he loves it.
- 25:11He could teach a master class, honestly, really could.
- 25:14And in fact, I would be, I would sit up front, I never sit up
- 25:16front. I would sit up front for that
- 25:18class. I never sit up for a neither and
- 25:20I would seriously be the two in the back like, snickering.
- 25:23All the time. This is boring.
- 25:26I definitely like to hide in the back of the classroom, even in
- 25:29like stuff. I like, I don't want to be up
- 25:31front, but I would for that and like we were for Clone Wars
- 25:34panel. Yes.
- 25:36We weren't? Oh man, I wish she was at that,
- 25:38that have been better. I know I did see him at Star
- 25:42Wars celebration the next year. Who did yes.
- 25:45Yeah, and I was very Lois. I was like, walking through the
- 25:50center of the kind of Arena where everything is and they
- 25:53have like this little booth that's only for interviewers and
- 25:57interviewees and all of a sudden like screens come to life and it
- 26:00was Matt Lanter and Sam Witwer being interviewed by whoever the
- 26:05interviewer were and they were just close to right there in
- 26:08front of me. I could have reached out and
- 26:10touched them, which of course it's creepy.
- 26:11I would not have done that but I was of, who's sorry?
- 26:17No, I wouldn't have I was literally two feet from Matt
- 26:20Lanter and I hid behind a stand because I was like, well I don't
- 26:23know, what should I go say hi. I don't want to add these push.
- 26:26He's pushing his baby carriage. I don't want to be, I know I'm
- 26:29so shy. I saw Ashley x times so many
- 26:32times at Comic Con because I went to all our panels about
- 26:35business because I was starting my own business at the time.
- 26:38And I was like taking spooky creepy selfies being like, Oh my
- 26:42god, look who's like a fan and she even said, in one of my
- 26:46posts. Commented next time.
- 26:48Come say hi. And it's like, I'm just too shy.
- 26:50Like, I don't want to just walk up to somebody assuming that
- 26:54like, celebrities are celebrities, but that doesn't
- 26:56mean they're public property, you know.
- 26:58I don't understand that there. I mean, especially when they're
- 27:00pushing their newborn, yeah, in a stroller, which, by the way,
- 27:05Kudos, Matt Lanter that you were able to push a stroller through
- 27:09that massive area of hordes of people.
- 27:12Was that cause I mean, you couldn't even breathe.
- 27:15No, but here, he Comes pushing his, you know, kid in a
- 27:18stroller. Just have my little family and I
- 27:21was just like, oh my God, there is, I just didn't want to
- 27:24interrupt him. I didn't want to be that person
- 27:25and yeah, there's nothing bad about.
- 27:28I have spoken to a celebrity before but it took me two hours
- 27:31to work up. The courage to go do it.
- 27:32Yeah, I did too. I was working in LA and Kiefer.
- 27:36Sutherland came through the door into our studio and I just I was
- 27:41just like bull like I lost all control over my face and it was
- 27:46my job to do. Show him to the studio recording
- 27:48studio and then, I was supposed to go get him coffee later, and
- 27:51I was just like, I was a fucking mess.
- 27:54Was that coffin Runner? Yeah, my job, I love that.
- 27:58I worked at a post production company, and if you've ever seen
- 28:01Devil Wears Prada, that was my life.
- 28:04Yes, I was the Gopher, it sucked.
- 28:07His German Shepherd, came up to me and I at the time was
- 28:10terrified of dogs, especially ones that are still as a human
- 28:13being and who's like, he Good to me.
- 28:17He's like, be careful. He's a killer and I was like
- 28:19really, I'm kind of scared. Yeah.
- 28:21And he's like oh no, he's really sweet.
- 28:24It's like is there a German Shepherd gonna beat me to death
- 28:28right now? That is so cute though.
- 28:31Yeah, it was a fun experience. But yeah if I that's why I like
- 28:35walking around Collins and stuff, it's like I'm too afraid
- 28:38to say hello to people. I'm so shy.
- 28:43Sorry for the super crazy side tangent there.
- 28:48Shall we pull things back to Sam Witwer?
- 28:52They're probably not but maybe and if you and if you're
- 28:57somewhere in Canada with a ghost and a werewolf, I'll meet you
- 29:01there too. Yeah, they just had a reunions
- 29:04for Being Human not too long ago.
- 29:06Those awesome. Also, he's in Battlestar
- 29:08Galactica. Oh, he's crashing this for
- 29:12anybody. Who who watched that show?
- 29:15It's a trip down memory lane. And now it's like sure is but
- 29:19super old, I don't want one. Oh my God.
- 29:21I love that show. That's a whole other episode.
- 29:24Yes, could be an asshole. Its own podcast.
- 29:27Uh, has we love you Sam? Yeah, Sam is amazing.
- 29:32If you're not familiar with this work, definitely get into it.
- 29:34I know he's in Supergirl right, he's not.
- 29:37Oh yes sir, he's currently maybe he's also got a, he is in days
- 29:43gone that other video. Game is said not a Star Wars
- 29:46video game but I've not played it but I am familiar with it.
- 29:49Yeah, people love it, gets rave reviews all the time.
- 29:54Yeah, I just feel like I have so much respect for his huge
- 29:58variety of interests and talents and like, basically, just going
- 30:02after anything, that's interesting to him.
- 30:04He's also really big into pit bull rescue.
- 30:06And just say I'm rescue in general.
- 30:08Yeah, he's a good person. He's a good human.
- 30:11Yeah. Cool dude and a damn damn
- 30:14talented one. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:17He's got a good Soul so I say that like I know him, I don't
- 30:20know that, but what seems to be the facts that we have?
- 30:24Yeah, I wouldn't turn him away for dinner.
- 30:32He has a seat at my table any day.
- 30:42Turning this over to our wonderful listeners are question
- 30:45to you. This week, is besides Darth
- 30:47Maul? What is your favorite Sam Witwer
- 30:50role? Do you have one?
- 30:52Have we introduced you to one today letting you know all of
- 30:55his various? I mean he's a talented dude.
- 30:57So let's give credit where credit is due.
- 30:59Definitely Aiden from being human hands down.
- 31:02Yeah, yeah. I'm going with Starkiller.
- 31:05I I love the character of Starkiller the I need to get
- 31:07into Starkiller. I'm very excited.
- 31:09I've always loved the art and everything and I, yeah, that's
- 31:11going to be on my to-do list to like do it, get into Starkiller
- 31:15stuff. I want the whole story is really
- 31:17great so that they might love everything I've seen of it so
- 31:20far. Absolutely, yeah, it's good.
- 31:22It's real good. So, next week, we are going to
- 31:26have a conversation about a very special creature from Star Wars,
- 31:32very special, very, very The Court Jester of Star Wars
- 31:38creatures. We're gonna talk about the one
- 31:42and only salacious be Crumb from Jabba's Palace.
- 31:46Everyone's favorite monkey lizard?
- 31:49Everyone's favorite monkey lizard.
- 31:54Now, you may be asking yourself, could you fill a whole episode
- 31:58about this animal? We can we, he has a backstory
- 32:02and we're going to bring it to light and we're going to give
- 32:05This be crumb, the the the honor he deserves last week on the
- 32:11show Leann and I discussed Sith Obi-Wan.
- 32:13And what if scenarios that might push him towards the dark side?
- 32:18We asked our listeners. What their thoughts on the
- 32:20subject were, and we got a really fun variety of responses.
- 32:23MH on YouTube said, thank you so much for doing this episode.
- 32:27Dark Obi-Wan is one of my favorite a use as well.
- 32:30I will be really, really angry if they do a literal /re.
- 32:35Will duel between Vader and Obi-Wan in the show because it
- 32:38would detract an unimaginable amount of significance from The
- 32:42Duel in A New Hope. I kind of agree with you on
- 32:45that, although I will say Star Wars has a history of
- 32:48undermining their own content. So I wouldn't be surprised if
- 32:51they did do this also Kenobi wolf.
- 32:54On Instagram said, I think the closest Obi-Wan Kenobi could
- 32:57have realistically converted to the dark side.
- 33:00Would have been had Qui-Gon, lift and Qui-Gon and Dooku.
- 33:03Tried to sway him based on. The corruption angle but op1
- 33:07wouldn't have seen it as going dark side.
- 33:09It would have been yet one more time in his life when he decided
- 33:13he had to do. What was necessary for the
- 33:15greater good and on Twitter Duchess of darksaber, light said
- 33:21Sith Obi-Wan would be terrifying.
- 33:24Cold calculating and utterly ruthless.
- 33:28That's a very interesting take on it and I happen to agree with
- 33:31you. This week in the United States,
- 33:33we have a national holiday of Thanksgiving.
- 33:36It's where we take time to reflect on what we're grateful
- 33:38and thankful for and LeAnn and I are grateful for you, our
- 33:42listeners. We don't take you for granted
