Speaker 4: zero eight. I wanted to tell you about an event
• 2:22
Speaker 4: that actually happened to Charles at least once before and
• 2:24
Speaker 4: it's back again. It's called Recycle for Recovery and here
• 2:27
Speaker 4: to talk about Berry bloodsoe, good morning, sir, welcome to
• 2:30
Speaker 4: the show. Good morning, glad to be here, Thank you
• 2:32
Speaker 4: for being here. So let's talk about let's talk about
• 2:36
Speaker 4: this event. I mean this has been done in the past.
• 2:38
Speaker 7: Right, We did it last year for the first time
• 2:41
Speaker 7: on a smaller scale.
• 2:42
Speaker 4: In this year we're ramping it up, all right, what
• 2:44
Speaker 4: exactly is the event?
• 2:46
Speaker 7: So, Charleston Area Metal Recycling is a metal recycling company
• 2:52
Speaker 7: located in Knawler City. And our company likes to do
• 2:58
Speaker 7: community events and and things, be part of the community,
• 3:01
Speaker 7: not just a business to make profit. And we've got
• 3:05
Speaker 7: several people in the company who are involved with recovery,
• 3:09
Speaker 7: whether it be Celebrate Recovery or Broken Change or different
• 3:12
Speaker 7: organizations that help with recovery. And last year we did
• 3:17
Speaker 7: a small version of Recycle for Recovery. This year we're
• 3:21
Speaker 7: ramping it up and the purpose is kind of twofold.
• 3:24
Speaker 7: One is we want to raise funds for a local
• 3:28
Speaker 7: recovery entity, and this year we're partnering with an entity
• 3:33
Speaker 7: called Hope for All, which is a recovery entity based
• 3:38
Speaker 7: on the help women who have been through rehab and
• 3:41
Speaker 7: recovery and just need one more step to get them
• 3:45
Speaker 7: back into the real world, to build a new life,
• 3:49
Speaker 7: to get away from where they were, whether it's a
• 3:52
Speaker 7: home or a job, or reconnecting with family if that's impossibility,
• 3:57
Speaker 7: So we raise funds for them this year. And the
• 4:00
Speaker 7: second thing is to bring awareness and not just awareness
• 4:03
Speaker 7: of the addiction or the homeless or mental health issue,
• 4:06
Speaker 7: because everybody knows that, you see it, everybody talks about it,
• 4:09
Speaker 7: but what happens is everybody complains about it and nobody
• 4:13
Speaker 7: wants to do anything. So we want to kind of
• 4:16
Speaker 7: push the issue that don't just talk about it, do something,
• 4:19
Speaker 7: and if everybody did something. If businesses did a little
• 4:23
Speaker 7: bit of something, if individuals did a little bit of something,
• 4:26
Speaker 7: the end result would be huge. And that's what we're doing.
• 4:29
  Speaker 7: We're not a recovery agency, We're a business. We're a
• 4:32
Speaker 7: recycling company, but we're going to do our part to
• 4:34
Speaker 7: try to help with this issue.
• 4:37
Speaker 4: So I think it's kind of interesting you said that
• 4:39
Speaker 4: your company doesn't like to just be part of you know,
• 4:42
Speaker 4: just to just offer a service for profit. I mean,
• 4:44
Speaker 4: you'd like to give back to the community, But why
• 4:46
Speaker 4: specifically this cause. I mean you said that you had
• 4:49
Speaker 4: some workers that helped in the recovery community. Is there
• 4:54
Speaker 4: something and something special about this? I mean, I I
• 4:56
Speaker 4: applaud you for doing it, just I think it's I
• 4:59
  Speaker 4: think I think it's a wonderful program, and we'll break
• 5:01
Speaker 4: it down exactly how it works. But how did you
• 5:04
Speaker 4: arrive upon this decision to help this cause?
• 5:06
Speaker 7: So almost everyone has been touched by the addiction issues somehow,
• 5:11
Speaker 7: whether personally individually or through family or friends. And you
• 5:16
Speaker 7: know myself, I've got family members who have been involved
• 5:19
Speaker 7: in the addiction issue. And I got involved with a
• 5:23
Speaker 7: group called Celebrate Recovery because I have family members who
• 5:28
Speaker 7: have been involved in addiction and celebrated recovery has helped
• 5:31
Speaker 7: me a lot. And we've got other individuals in the
• 5:34
Speaker 7: company that have been tested by that and it became
• 5:37
Speaker 7: a personal issue to them. So, you know, we we've
• 5:40
Speaker 7: gone even so far as to our local We've got
• 5:42
Speaker 7: four locations in West Virginia, min Or Wells, Fairmont, elcas
• 5:46
Speaker 7: In here in Charleston, and our Charleston location. The manager
• 5:51
Speaker 7: there has gone so far as to hire all of
• 5:54
Speaker 7: our employees except for the manager and the office manager
• 5:57
Speaker 7: come from the Union mission. And it's the best crew
• 6:01
Speaker 7: we've ever had. You know, that's one more thing we
• 6:04
Speaker 7: can do to help them. But they help us because
• 6:07
Speaker 7: they do an amazing job for us, and now they
• 6:10
Speaker 7: have a full time job, one more step to getting
• 6:12
Speaker 7: on that path to being independent and getting back into
• 6:17
Speaker 7: a good life again.
• 6:18
Speaker 4: What do you see in those employees that makes them
• 6:22
Speaker 4: such good workers for you?
• 6:23
Speaker 7: You know, these are our people who didn't just come
• 6:26
Speaker 7: out of rehab. You know, they haven't been out of
• 6:28
Speaker 7: rehab for a few days or a week. These are
• 6:30
Speaker 7: people that have been out of rehab for a few months.
• 6:33
Speaker 7: And we talk to the manager of that Sober Living
• 6:38
Speaker 7: and we say, give us the people that you really
• 6:41
Speaker 7: see are trying and really have that goal of getting
• 6:44
Speaker 7: on that better path. And because they have that goal
• 6:47
Speaker 7: on that better path, they're giving us they're all and
• 6:49
Speaker 7: they really do. I mean, honestly, give us as the
• 6:51
Speaker 7: best crew we've ever had in the history of the company.
• 6:54
Speaker 4: Give me, and I don't need a name or anything
• 6:56
Speaker 4: like that, and I don't you don't want to single
• 6:57
Speaker 4: anyone out, but give me one of the just one
• 7:00
Speaker 4: of the stories that you've had within your company about
• 7:02
Speaker 4: an employee who's really pushed it, like to the next level.
• 7:05
Speaker 7: So we have a new employee at our Fairwount location
• 7:08
Speaker 7: who buys our non Ferris and manages that warehouse. And
• 7:13
Speaker 7: we brought him to Charleston for a couple of days
• 7:15
Speaker 7: for training, and they hooked him up with one of
• 7:18
Speaker 7: our Charleston employees and he came back and he said,
• 7:23
Speaker 7: he said, I'm telling you, this is the best guy ever.
• 7:25
Speaker 7: His customer service is amazing. He cares about the people,
• 7:29
Speaker 7: he cares about the company, and that's the people we're
• 7:33
Speaker 7: looking for, and we want to help them and they're
• 7:35
Speaker 7: helping us, and it's a win win.
• 7:37
Speaker 4: Talking with Barry Bledsoe the Dave Island showing five Any
• 7:40
Speaker 4: line brought to you in part by Jute's jot Security
• 7:43
Speaker 4: Systems is protected by Jude dot com or check them
• 7:45
Speaker 4: out on Facebook. So specifically, what's going to be happening
• 7:48
Speaker 4: with this event and give us the location and and
• 7:51
Speaker 4: what you're going to be doing there.
• 7:52
Speaker 7: So this coming Saturday, September twentieth, from nine to four
• 7:55
Speaker 7: will be open as we always are on Saturdays, and
• 7:58
Speaker 7: a few things are going to happen. One when people
• 8:00
Speaker 7: come in to bring in their their cans or their
• 8:03
Speaker 7: copper or whatever it is that they're recycling. Instead of
• 8:06
Speaker 7: them taking the money and put in their pocket, which
• 8:08
Speaker 7: is okay, that's what we do, they have the aution
• 8:11
Speaker 7: that day to donate to recycle for recovery and that
• 8:15
Speaker 7: those funds will then go to hope for all. At
• 8:17
Speaker 7: the same time, we're going to be having things that
• 8:20
Speaker 7: are making a fun day to be there. We're gonna
• 8:21
Speaker 7: have food vendors, We're gonna have a DJ Charleston Fire
• 8:24
Speaker 7: Departments bringing a fire truck and an ambulance. We're going
• 8:27
Speaker 7: to have different tables set up for the different recovery
• 8:30
Speaker 7: groups around the area, like Celebrate recovery and hope for all.
• 8:36
Speaker 7: The governor may show up working with his scheduler. Now
• 8:40
Speaker 7: that's a possibility. So you know, we're gonna make it
• 8:42
Speaker 7: not just a day to come in and recycle, but
• 8:45
Speaker 7: it's a day of fun as well.
• 8:46
Speaker 4: And where are you located.
• 8:47
Speaker 7: We are at six ten forty eighth Streets Southeast and
• 8:50
  Speaker 7: Kanawa City.
• 8:51
  Speaker 4: All right, it's I think it's a wonderful, wonderful idea
• 8:55
Speaker 4: that you that you've got going on here. And again,
• 8:58
Speaker 4: if people want to come out and just and maybe
• 9:00
Speaker 4: they don't have anything to turn you maybe just want
• 9:01
Speaker 4: to make a donation. Is I mean, I'm presuming that's okay. Absolutely.
• 9:04
Speaker 7: You know, if you don't have anything to recycle that day,
• 9:07
Speaker 7: maybe you should start recycling beyond that, Uh, you know,
• 9:10
Speaker 7: come out and just enjoy and learn a little bit,
• 9:13
Speaker 7: educate yourself, be part of the fun and and and
• 9:17
Speaker 7: just enjoy the day with us.
• 9:19
Speaker 4: If somebody is listening right now and they want to
• 9:21
Speaker 4: get involved in this as far as being a vendor,
• 9:22
Speaker 4: you said you're going to have food vendors and things
• 9:24
Speaker 4: of that nature, is can they still do that?
• 9:26
Speaker 6: Yeah, Yeah, they can do that.
• 9:28
Speaker 7: They can contact us at the Charleston area metal recycling number.
• 9:32
Speaker 4: Sorry, I don't have that alse out of my head.
• 9:34
Speaker 7: We'll go and google it and UH and and give
• 9:37
  Speaker 7: us a call.
• 9:37
  Speaker 8: We'd be loved.
• 9:38
Speaker 4: We'd love to have you to have to be a
• 9:39
Speaker 4: part of us, all right before we let you go,
• 9:41
Speaker 4: Barry One one final plea, UH to tell people why
• 9:46
Speaker 4: they should get involved in efforts like this, whether it's
• 9:48
Speaker 4: with you or but one of these organizations. One just
• 9:51
Speaker 4: one final plea to get people involved.
• 9:53
Speaker 7: So the the issue with addictions UH and mental health
• 9:57
Speaker 7: and homelesses had become one of the biggest issues in
• 10:01
Speaker 7: society today. It's destroyed families and lives. And it doesn't
• 10:06
Speaker 7: mean when somebody gets addicted it's they're hopeless. There is hope,
• 10:11
Speaker 7: there is there are organizations out there that can help.
• 10:15
Speaker 7: These organizations could use help, but if everybody does their part,
• 10:19
Speaker 7: we can start seeing a reduction. Because you know, I
• 10:23
Speaker 7: have to be very honest. I used to be somebody
• 10:26
Speaker 7: who placed the blame on those are the dedications. I say,
• 10:28
  Speaker 7: it's their fault, it's their fault, it's their choice. I
• 10:31
Speaker 7: have been through some classes and seminars that have taught
• 10:35
Speaker 7: me different on how people who get addicted. It completely
• 10:39
Speaker 7: rewires their brain. They can't make the decisions anymore like
• 10:43
Speaker 7: they used to and they need help to get back
• 10:46
Speaker 7: on that path and really rewire the brain. And we're
• 10:49
Speaker 7: looking for people to help.
• 10:52
  Speaker 6: In any way.
• 10:53
Speaker 7: Donate money, donate time, you know, meet them where they are,
• 10:57
Speaker 7: Go down to the local union mission, pass out poss stickles,
• 11:00
Speaker 7: you know, on a hunting even before these guys are
• 11:02
Speaker 7: going to the union mission and say and don't beat
• 11:05
Speaker 7: them over the head and say shame one.
• 11:07
Speaker 6: You need to do this.
• 11:08
Speaker 7: Just talk to them, see where they are, meet them
• 11:11
Speaker 7: where they are, and then and then you might find
• 11:14
Speaker 7: that one out of one hundred that you can help.
• 11:17
Speaker 4: We had a text here for you before we let
• 11:18
Speaker 4: you go about the things that you take in at
• 11:21
Speaker 4: your business. So here here's a thirty second free commercial
• 11:23
  Speaker 4: for you.

Speaker 4: he's he was on with with Steve and Jenny. The
• 14:48
Speaker 4: way I look at it is Bob Vance should want
• 14:51
Speaker 4: to meet Jim Strong.
• 14:52
Speaker 6: He's running around looking for somebody. Maybe it was me,
• 14:54
  Speaker 6: I don't know.
• 14:56
Speaker 4: Right, one of the all time great, great shows. And
• 15:00
  Speaker 4: he's a he's a great guy, and he's he's here.
• 15:03
Speaker 4: He's here in the some roots in the Kanaal County, right,
• 15:05
Speaker 4: he's got roots area, Yeah, up.
• 15:07
Speaker 6: In the elk Elk River area.
• 15:09
Speaker 4: I asked him if you wanted to be on this show,
• 15:11
Speaker 4: but then he said, he said, I don't want to be.
• 15:14
Speaker 6: You know, we didn't want to.
• 15:15
  Speaker 4: I don't want to. I don't want to outshine Jim.
• 15:18
Speaker 6: He didn't want to.
• 15:19
Speaker 14: He didn't want to bump us. Well, we we come,
• 15:20
Speaker 14: we come here, and I say we Michael Strickling's with movie.
• 15:22
Speaker 14: We come here with a couple of these events happening
• 15:25
Speaker 14: this weekend. You and I were talking off air, what
• 15:27
Speaker 14: what events are not happening this weekend?
• 15:29
  Speaker 6: There's a lot.
• 15:29
Speaker 14: I mean September October, you just know it, right, Yeah,
• 15:32
Speaker 14: September October. We get outdoors, we have fun events, we
• 15:35
Speaker 14: have fundraising events. But the one that I'm going to
• 15:38
Speaker 14: start the weekend with is Saturday. That win that w
• 15:42
Speaker 14: had on Saturday, not gonna I'm not gonna pull any punches.
• 15:45
Speaker 6: I was a little wow we wow, we got them.
• 15:49
Speaker 6: I was like, wow, we got them. So that helps.
• 15:51
Speaker 14: I thank us for the event that we're going to
• 15:53
Speaker 14: have this Saturday at the Red Corperate Pavilion. The Mountaineers
• 15:57
Speaker 14: Night Out event is this Saturday, with the game kicking
• 16:01
Speaker 14: off at six pm. Now, the festivities will begin at four.
• 16:04
Speaker 14: When I say festivities, Pg's going to have some delicious food.
• 16:07
Speaker 14: We're going to have pork sandwiches. He's going to toss
• 16:09
Speaker 14: out about five different flavored wings. At halftime, of course,
• 16:12
Speaker 14: the Mountaineers are taking on Kansas Jayhawks in Kansas, and
• 16:17
Speaker 14: we're going to have a tailgate watching football party, slash
• 16:21
Speaker 14: fund slash fundraiser for the Western Yian Kids Cancer Crusaders
• 16:26
Speaker 14: and the Bomber Debt Center. And at halftime we're going
• 16:29
Speaker 14: to have a special a very small, short, small tribute
• 16:34
Speaker 14: to our fallen friend, Dug scaff Junior, all raising money
• 16:38
Speaker 14: for those two charities. So we hope to have three, four,
• 16:41
Speaker 14: maybe five hundred of our closest Mountaineer fans, rooting on
• 16:45
Speaker 14: the Mountaineers to beat the Jayhawks with good food, lots
• 16:49
Speaker 14: of games, lots of music. Our good friend Steve z
• 16:52
Speaker 14: might walk in in a minute. What he was is
• 16:54
Speaker 14: going to be there. So you know, when I say
• 16:56
Speaker 14: those two names, it's a party. When I talk about
• 16:58
Speaker 14: WA football, it's a tailgate party. When I talk about
• 17:01
Speaker 14: the delicious food and all the games, you know, presented
• 17:04
Speaker 14: by Manny Ellison Lane.
• 17:05
Speaker 6: Those three guys like to have a good time. So
• 17:08
Speaker 6: there's a lot of things happening.
• 17:10
Speaker 14: But the best part for me is that we're raising
• 17:12
Speaker 14: money for the kids with cancer on the Western Yet
• 17:16
Speaker 14: Kids Cancer Crusaders and the bobberd At Center, a natural
• 17:18
Speaker 14: school program on the West side of Charleston, the best
• 17:21
Speaker 14: side of Charleston. So that's gonna be fun. Go to
• 17:23
Speaker 14: Mountaineers Night Out dot com. Mountaineers Night Out dot com
• 17:28
Speaker 14: that I'll secure you a couple of tickets. Tickets are
• 17:31
Speaker 14: only fifty dollars. Fifty dollars with all that food and
• 17:35
Speaker 14: spirited beverages that comes with the fifty dollars where you're
• 17:38
Speaker 14: blue and gold and then and then be there for
• 17:41
Speaker 14: the tribute for Doug. I just think it's going to
• 17:43
Speaker 14: be a special Saturday. But alast there's more for the weekend.
• 17:47
Speaker 14: But wait, bye, wait bye, wait, I'm gone, there's more.
• 17:51
Speaker 6: Who's that Wrint? Who is that Ron? Ron Popil?
• 17:54
Speaker 14: Yeah, and so I brought my buddy Michael with me
• 17:57
Speaker 14: and Dave you can kind of segue in to the conversation.
• 18:00
Speaker 14: But Sunday is a big day too, down at Slack
• 18:03
Speaker 14: Plaza on Summer Street in downtown Chawston.
• 18:05
Speaker 6: We're going to start at five. It's the third annual
• 18:08
  Speaker 6: Le's Legacy.
• 18:09
Speaker 4: All right, Michael Strickland's here with us. Michael, thanks for
• 18:12
Speaker 4: being here on the show today. Thanks for having us.
• 18:14
Speaker 4: It's ready to ready to do another one of these events,
• 18:16
Speaker 4: absolutely their third one. For those that may not know
• 18:20
Speaker 4: about this, because we talked about it ever since we
• 18:22
Speaker 4: started doing it, explain, explain what Lee's legacy is.
• 18:25
Speaker 15: So, you know, unfortunately leave with Leah passed a few
• 18:28
Speaker 15: years ago and three years ago in a car rex
• 18:30
Speaker 15: So we decided, you know, she was an avid runner athlete,
• 18:35
Speaker 15: and we were wanting we didn't want for hours, you know,
• 18:38
Speaker 15: for after the funeral. We wanted to start a scholarship fund.
• 18:40
Speaker 15: So to support that scholarship fund, we decided to have
• 18:43
Speaker 15: a five K race in her honor and then so
• 18:47
Speaker 15: there's that's her legacy, you know. But after three years
• 18:50
Speaker 15: on LEZ, it's amazing that how many people this race
• 18:54
Speaker 15: has got, you got through through Lea's legacy.
• 18:58
Speaker 4: How many if you had to put a I don't
• 19:00
Speaker 4: know if you have the exact number, but a ballpark figure,
• 19:02
Speaker 4: and how much you've been able to raise over there
• 19:04
  Speaker 4: we have.
• 19:05
Speaker 6: We're actually over it's around eighty grand.
• 19:11
Speaker 15: I mean, we've given six twenty five hundred dollars scholarships
• 19:15
Speaker 15: outs over the last three years.
• 19:17
  Speaker 4: So yeah, it's and it's I.
• 19:19
Speaker 15: Mean, yeah, so we're we're very I mean, we're well off,
• 19:22
Speaker 15: you know, and it's really just about celebrating Leah for
• 19:26
Speaker 15: that day, you know. I mean, and we love the scholarships.
• 19:29
Speaker 15: But for me, it's honestly, it's like Christmas. For me,
• 19:32
Speaker 15: it's just that one day that I enjoy that everybody's
• 19:34
Speaker 15: coming out and celebrating.
• 19:35
Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, But Dave Valan showing five Ady Line Brown
• 19:38
Speaker 4: to You, a part by Live Healthy West for Jennifer
• 19:40
Speaker 4: sent by WVU Medicine, a podcast promoting healthier lifestyles and
• 19:43
Speaker 4: a beyond the State. Check out a latest episodes wv
• 19:46
Speaker 4: metronews dot com under the podcast menu. So what all
• 19:48
Speaker 4: is gonna be going on down there? Michael?
• 19:50
Speaker 15: So, the race will start at five pm. We actually
• 19:53
Speaker 15: will have Josh Pantry performing the national anthem.
• 19:56
Speaker 4: Right before the race, we'll have a flag corps.
• 19:58
Speaker 15: I believe the Junior OTC from EW is bringing down
• 20:00
Speaker 15: their flag corps. And then we'll also then what he was,
• 20:04
Speaker 15: We'll be playing some hits during the race, and then
• 20:07
Speaker 15: after the race, Josh Pantry will be coming by going
• 20:09
Speaker 15: for a post race concert. What food trucks, beverage vendors.
• 20:14
Speaker 4: And this is all happening down from five to nine
• 20:17
  Speaker 4: pm on Sunday.
• 20:18
  Speaker 8: Sunday.
• 20:19
Speaker 15: The concert at the Josh Pantry post race concert will
• 20:22
Speaker 15: start at seven. He's will go from eight thirty to nine,
• 20:25
Speaker 15: so an hour and a half two hour playlist. Weather's
• 20:28
Speaker 15: looking good right now.
• 20:30
Speaker 4: And Michael, as we said, this is the third year
• 20:32
Speaker 4: that you've done it, and you talked about it being
• 20:35
Speaker 4: almost like Christmas, you know, for you and your family.
• 20:37
Speaker 4: But you look out over over that crowd and yeah,
• 20:40
Speaker 4: people are going to come out for you know, Josh Pantry.
• 20:43
Speaker 4: People are going to come out for the good times
• 20:44
Speaker 4: and the food trucks and whatever. But she had she
• 20:48
Speaker 4: was very special. I know you're a little biased, but
• 20:51
Speaker 4: but but she was a very very special lady. You
• 20:54
  Speaker 4: young lady.
• 20:55
Speaker 15: It's amazing how many people you didn't think knew her.
• 20:58
Speaker 15: And then it's you know, she was she was very
• 21:04
Speaker 15: she was she was very athletic, she was academic, I
• 21:07
Speaker 15: mean everything. And so then you're seeing she used to
• 21:10
Speaker 15: always tell us I only have two or three friends.
• 21:12
Speaker 15: Well then you realize she had thousands of friends. And
• 21:15
Speaker 15: you and you know, Fairmont, all these people they really respected,
• 21:19
Speaker 15: the newer you know, people from Bridgeport, Fairmont. You know,
• 21:22
Speaker 15: we're like, oh, we knew Leah.
• 21:23
  Speaker 2: We knew Leah.
• 21:24
Speaker 15: Yeah because of her her so but and then the
• 21:28
Speaker 15: last three years, you're just seeing so many people come
• 21:31
Speaker 15: out and talk about Leah.
• 21:32
Speaker 4: All we knew Leah, you know what I mean.
• 21:34
Speaker 15: We were in Morgantown this weekend and somebody we're just
• 21:36
Speaker 15: tailgating and we're talking and I was seeing a mutual
• 21:39
Speaker 15: friend and like I said, Leah from you know, and
• 21:41
Speaker 15: and so it just tells you how far the reach
• 21:44
Speaker 15: has been We're statewide.
• 21:46
Speaker 4: So people show up down the area. As I said,
• 21:48
Speaker 4: for everything that you got going on, what he Woods
• 21:50
Speaker 4: is going to be there and Josh Pantry and the
• 21:52
Speaker 4: food trucks and what I mean, do you how do
• 21:54
Speaker 4: how does the how does does the donation collection work?
• 21:57
  Speaker 4: We're gonna have we'll have a tent.
• 21:58
  Speaker 15: We'll have a we have a le's Legs tent set
• 22:00
Speaker 15: up and that will be for what you can register
• 22:02
Speaker 15: the day of and then also pick up your pocket
• 22:06
Speaker 15: at that tent. You can also make a donation anymount.
• 22:09
Speaker 15: We have pocket pick up on Saturday night too, which
• 22:11
Speaker 15: is kind of crazy. Now, talk about that a little bit. Yeah,
• 22:14
Speaker 15: we we didn't expect.
• 22:15
  Speaker 2: The review game.
• 22:15
Speaker 15: We were hoping the game would be a little bit
• 22:17
Speaker 15: earlier in the day. But we're actually having a pocket
• 22:19
Speaker 15: pick up a short story, and we're gonna have music
• 22:22
Speaker 15: by Reese Huffman Reese Holbert. I'm sorry, Reecee Holbert, and
• 22:27
Speaker 15: she is a senior at George Washington High School. But
• 22:29
Speaker 15: she's a family friend and a very good artist, so
• 22:32
Speaker 15: we just kind of wanted to bring her in. She's
• 22:35
Speaker 15: gonna play her guitar and just sing and then have
• 22:37
Speaker 15: people come up to pick their packet up to make
• 22:39
Speaker 15: it a little bit easy.
• 22:40
Speaker 4: That's all happened a short story. Yeah, six pm, okay, right, kickoff.
• 22:45
Speaker 4: And the reason I wanted to bring that up is
• 22:46
Speaker 4: because we didn't want people to think, well, I'm not
• 22:48
Speaker 4: a runner, I don't want to participate in this. Just
• 22:50
  Speaker 4: opened anybody, Jimbo.
• 22:51
  Speaker 14: Absolutely, there's a two mile walk and I'm a walker.
• 22:54
Speaker 14: We've been talking about walking all year when I'm on
• 22:56
  Speaker 14: the show, So I'm a walker. Yeah, there's a competitive
• 22:59
Speaker 14: five k, just like Leah. There's lots of great cross
• 23:01
Speaker 14: country teams and some college participants. We did a really
• 23:05
Speaker 14: nice job. Sarah Fletcher, who's on the committee. This committee
• 23:08
Speaker 14: has done just a truly remarkable job. The committee had
• 23:11
Speaker 14: a meeting last night. There's twenty people on this committee.
• 23:14
Speaker 14: There's a lot of people doing a lot of work
• 23:16
Speaker 14: behind the scenes. That certainly does take a village to
• 23:18
Speaker 14: put this thing on. Sarah even got together eight different pacesetters.
• 23:22
Speaker 14: So if you want to run a seventeen minute five
• 23:25
Speaker 14: k or twenty nine or thirty two or thirty six
• 23:28
Speaker 14: minute five K, we're going to have pay setters. There's
• 23:30
Speaker 14: going to be all kinds of really competitive folks. Excuse
• 23:33
Speaker 14: me with the five k, but the two mile walk
• 23:37
Speaker 14: is really appealing as well. There's going to be a
• 23:40
Speaker 14: kid's fun run. So this thing is for the entire family.
• 23:43
Speaker 14: I've been promoting for a couple of months. Get the
• 23:45
Speaker 14: entire family registered. Go to Leah's Legacy wv dot org.
• 23:49
Speaker 14: That's Leah's Legacy wb dot org. Get registered, Come out
• 23:54
Speaker 14: and enjoy the festivities. Yes, enjoy the food, Enjoy the beverages,
• 23:58
Speaker 14: Enjoy the concert, Enjoy Woody. I'm very honored to serve
• 24:01
Speaker 14: as the master's ceremonies. It's going to be an event,
• 24:04
Speaker 14: and then, yes, we're raising money. Michael mentioned about eighty
• 24:07
Speaker 14: grand thus far. I interviewed one of the recipients as
• 24:11
Speaker 14: sophomore at Marshall University this past Wednesday, Carly McGraw. Just
• 24:17
Speaker 14: so when you this event is named Leah's Legacy, there's
• 24:21
Speaker 14: not a more appropriate name for an event than Lea's Legacy.
• 24:25
Speaker 14: She is etching her name, she is continuing to grow
• 24:29
Speaker 14: her legacy, She's continuing to give back to this community,
• 24:33
Speaker 14: and she will always be remembered forever and ever and ever.
• 24:38
Speaker 14: And the more money we can raise, the more twenty
• 24:40
Speaker 14: five hundred dollars scholarships the Strickland family can hand out
• 24:44
Speaker 14: to these really student athletes who are not just athletes.
• 24:49
Speaker 6: I mean the criteria that they set the bar pretty high.
• 24:53
  Speaker 6: It's Leah's criteria.
• 24:55
Speaker 14: It's someone who is not only good athletically, but so
• 24:58
Speaker 14: driven and ambitious in the classroom and so giving back
• 25:02
Speaker 14: to the community and so wants to be a part
• 25:04
Speaker 14: of the music group at the church. I mean, Leah
• 25:08
Speaker 14: had so much going on, and I'm always astounded when
• 25:11
Speaker 14: Michael and Emily talk about Leah's saying, you know, Mom, Dad,
• 25:15
Speaker 14: you know, I really have two or three really good friends,
• 25:18
Speaker 14: and of course we all have the handful, but she
• 25:21
Speaker 14: touched more than two or three people in her life,
• 25:23
Speaker 14: and so her legacy is etched very deep, and we're
• 25:26
Speaker 14: going to continue to grow it. We're going to raise
• 25:28
Speaker 14: money this Sunday Lea's legacywb dot org. If you don't
• 25:32
Speaker 14: get registered, that's okay, Come out, enjoy the concert, drop
• 25:35
Speaker 14: a few dollars in a donation bucket. We're going to
• 25:38
Speaker 14: auction off some lottery tickets. There's all different ways that
• 25:41
Speaker 14: you can help support this, and if you want to
• 25:44
Speaker 14: be competitive, come out. If you want to stroll up
• 25:46
Speaker 14: and down the boulevard, come out if you want to
• 25:48
Speaker 14: get the kids to run. I've seen pictures of this thing.
• 25:50
Speaker 14: It's so much fun. The kids run through Braley Walkway,
• 25:53
Speaker 14: which is just a beautiful setting.
• 25:55
Speaker 6: So it should be a great day Sunday, This Sunday,
• 25:57
  Speaker 6: September the twenty.
• 25:58
Speaker 14: First get their early, gonna start right at five, and
• 26:01
Speaker 14: then Josh goes on after the award ceremony.
• 26:04
Speaker 6: We'll be down there till nine o'clock at night. Michael,
• 26:06
Speaker 6: I know you're ready. You love it, don't you, brother?
• 26:08
  Speaker 6: I enjoy it.
• 26:09
  Speaker 15: It's really it's as a honestly, it's an whether I
• 26:13
Speaker 15: helped organize it or not, it's one of it.
• 26:14
Speaker 4: I mean, it's a really fun, family friendly special day.
• 26:17
  Speaker 6: There's no question.
• 26:17
  Speaker 15: I mean it's a really cool event. It's you know,
• 26:19
  Speaker 15: it's I think it's great. I love it, and I'll
• 26:22
Speaker 15: have seeing everybody come down, whether you're registered or not.
• 26:25
Speaker 15: I would just love to see people come down and
• 26:27
Speaker 15: for the concert, coming into it for the concert, and.
• 26:29
Speaker 4: Even if you can just swing by make a donation,
• 26:32
Speaker 4: or even if you can't make a donation, just say
• 26:35
  Speaker 4: and you.
• 26:36
Speaker 14: Know, it's a platform for us to tell Lee a
• 26:38
Speaker 14: story as well. So I look forward to being there.
• 26:41
Speaker 14: What he's what he's jacked, of course, what he stays jacked.
• 26:44
Speaker 14: And then and then Josh, you know, an up and
• 26:46
Speaker 14: coming country star, Josh Pantry and the boys for up Campbells,
• 26:49
  Speaker 14: Greek Keeping.
• 26:50
Speaker 6: He loves all the Elk River folks.
• 26:52
  Speaker 3: He he.
• 26:53
Speaker 6: He approached Michael about this, right, Michael.
• 26:55
Speaker 15: We're just blessed to have all the support we have,
• 26:57
Speaker 15: I mean, for our little organization to have Woody, to
• 26:59
Speaker 15: have Josh, to have Jim. You know, we're extremely lucky
• 27:03
Speaker 15: to have all the support and then all the media.
• 27:04
Speaker 4: Platforms we've had, and we're happy to help out as well,
• 27:07
Speaker 4: you know. So we're truly we'll see everybody Sunday. Appreciate
• 27:09

Speaker 4: Jones is with us right now. How you doing, man,
• 30:59
Speaker 4: I'm doing doing great.
• 31:02
Speaker 8: A Calhoun County commissioner.
• 31:04
Speaker 4: Yeah, County commissioner is that's a it's accused of sexual
• 31:08
Speaker 4: abuse multiple counciling, like fifty counts or something like, yeah,
• 31:13
Speaker 4: under eighteen. But that was oh yes children, wow. And
• 31:17
Speaker 4: and so that's a story that was broken by the
• 31:20
Speaker 4: local paper up there, and we're efforting, well, we're definitely
• 31:23
Speaker 4: going to discuss it, but we're efforting to get the
• 31:25
Speaker 4: person who first published it to be on the show.
• 31:28
  Speaker 6: Now.
• 31:28
Speaker 4: The commissioner is on home confinement right now. I think
• 31:31
Speaker 4: I think he has a hearing sometime in early October,
• 31:35
Speaker 4: but he's on home confinement. So we'll get in that
• 31:37
Speaker 4: show coming up a little bit later on.
• 31:39
  Speaker 8: It's still a commissioner.
• 31:40
Speaker 4: I mean, I'm presuming he is at this point. I
• 31:44
Speaker 4: don't think he resigned. If I'm wrong about that, I
• 31:46
Speaker 4: know we we'll have the story post at wv Metro
• 31:48
Speaker 4: News dot com. But as of now, I'm I'm pretty
• 31:52
Speaker 4: sure he is. You said it off the air, Danny.
• 31:54
Speaker 4: You said, a lot has happened since you were here
• 31:57
Speaker 4: last Monday. Start with the death of Charlie Kirk Wednesday
• 32:01
Speaker 4: afternoon speaking at a college.
• 32:03
Speaker 8: And I first heard of him from my boy's mom, Sarah,
• 32:10
Speaker 8: and she said, you won't believe there's this guy. It's
• 32:13
Speaker 8: just up a table at schools and just talks to people.
• 32:19
Speaker 8: And there weren't that many people. I mean, he was
• 32:22
Speaker 8: just getting started. Yeah, so it must have been a
• 32:25
Speaker 8: while back, and he really turned it into something he did.
• 32:29
Speaker 4: And and I in one of the and I watched
• 32:32
Speaker 4: all the morning shows yesterday after while they all run together.
• 32:34
Speaker 4: But on one of them, I think it was Lindsay
• 32:35
Speaker 4: Graham was speaking about when he first encountered Charlie Kirk.
• 32:40
Speaker 4: And Charlie Kirk just came up and said, Hey, I'd
• 32:43
Speaker 4: like to come to some of these fundraising events. Uh,
• 32:48
Speaker 4: just to meet people. You know, I don't have any
• 32:51
Speaker 4: money to give. I just want to be able to
• 32:52
Speaker 4: meet people. And he was a young man. I mean,
• 32:55
Speaker 4: he was a young man when he when he when
• 32:57
Speaker 4: he died, but he was definitely a young man then.
• 33:00
Speaker 4: And he really you know, built a name for himself.
• 33:03
Speaker 4: And the incredible following that he had, I mean, it
• 33:08
Speaker 4: was it was just amazing. It really was.
• 33:11
Speaker 8: Yeah on the uh social media, the way they've taken
• 33:17
Speaker 8: this thing. And he was right wing, he was, he
• 33:22
Speaker 8: was every wing he was.
• 33:24
Speaker 4: And this is and I'm and I talked about this
• 33:25
Speaker 4: last week, Danny. This is what we do now anytime
• 33:29
Speaker 4: that there is an incident like this school shooting, mass
• 33:33
Speaker 4: shooting and a shopping mall or whatever what. And I'm
• 33:36
Speaker 4: not necessarily about us, but what people do in general
• 33:40
Speaker 4: is they want to learn more so they can own
• 33:43
Speaker 4: it or they can say it's the other side. You
• 33:46
Speaker 4: see these crazy left wingers, see these crazy right wingers,
• 33:49
Speaker 4: and and the truth is it doesn't matter what wing
• 33:53
Speaker 4: that they are a part of the keyword there's crazy, okay,
• 33:58
Speaker 4: and uh, and and it just it just bought my
• 34:00
Speaker 4: mind that this is where we are now. Is we
• 34:03
Speaker 4: immediately have to know what was what was his politics?
• 34:07
Speaker 8: When when I when I find out that they're wrong
• 34:12
Speaker 8: and have an agenda cut defriend block, I'm done. Yeah,
• 34:19
Speaker 8: I'm done with them.
• 34:20
  Speaker 10: You know.
• 34:21
Speaker 4: It's uh, it is interesting to me. And I'm gonna
• 34:24
Speaker 4: try to phrase this correctly because this was a horrific
• 34:27
Speaker 4: thing that happened. But I was almost hoping that neither
• 34:32
Speaker 4: side could own it. You know what I mean that
• 34:35
Speaker 4: we come, we find out the guy is registered Republican
• 34:39
Speaker 4: but supported Biden. You know what I'm saying, just that
• 34:43
Speaker 4: he would be all of the things there was.
• 34:47
Speaker 8: There's two governors that have been exposed that are have
• 34:52
Speaker 8: really shown some good qualities, the governor of Colorado and
• 34:57
Speaker 8: the governor of Utah.
• 34:58
Speaker 4: Governor Utah is a rock star. I mean he really is.
• 35:01
  Speaker 3: He is.
• 35:02
Speaker 4: He was on all the shows yesterday.
• 35:03
  Speaker 12: Yeah.
• 35:03
Speaker 8: And they those two have already formed a line they
• 35:09
Speaker 8: had a while back, have a disagree without being disagreeable.
• 35:16
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 35:17
Speaker 8: And you know the guy from Colorado who's gay, he's
• 35:23
Speaker 8: and the guy from US Tauls of Mormon, right, and
• 35:28
Speaker 8: they couldn't be more different, but they they get along
• 35:32
  Speaker 8: real well.
• 35:33
Speaker 4: I don't know that in my lifetime that I have
• 35:38
Speaker 4: seen the political temperature what it is now. Now you're
• 35:43
Speaker 4: you've got a few years on me. You are around
• 35:45
Speaker 4: of the nineteen sixties between you know, anti war movement,
• 35:49
Speaker 4: civil rights movement, so on, and so forth. You saw
• 35:51
Speaker 4: a lot of violence. Nineteen sixty eight, Chicago, you know,
• 35:54
Speaker 4: comes comes to mind, Newark, some of those places for
• 35:58
Speaker 4: various reasons. This is a whole other level.
• 36:02
Speaker 8: You knew it was going to end, yeah, and I
• 36:05
Speaker 8: mean that's you knew it was going to end. And
• 36:09
Speaker 8: with this, see, there's an opportunity here with our president
• 36:16
Speaker 8: to use this as a moment you unify, and you
• 36:22
Speaker 8: want to do the over over under on what it's
• 36:27
Speaker 8: not going to happen. I mean, he could use this
• 36:30
  Speaker 8: as a moment.
• 36:31
Speaker 4: He could, but he won't.
• 36:32
Speaker 8: But that's not his style.
• 36:34
Speaker 4: No, no, and that's unfortunate.
• 36:36
Speaker 3: He really really is.
• 36:38
Speaker 8: He could use this as a moment you unify the country.
• 36:41
Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I mean he and others, not just President Trump,
• 36:45
Speaker 4: but he, but he and others have as some people
• 36:48
Speaker 4: put thoughtful comments out there. But then again, as you said,
• 36:54
Speaker 4: we have to own it. You know, it's got to
• 36:56
Speaker 4: be it's got to be our side. It's these crazys
• 36:59
Speaker 4: on the look at these crazy wacky liberals, look at
• 37:02
Speaker 4: these crazy right wing.
• 37:05
Speaker 8: It's folks on the left are doing it.
• 37:07
Speaker 4: Also, yes, yeah, absolutely absolutely a matter of fact, had
• 37:12
Speaker 4: a text here It says, Dave Florida guy, Liberals are
• 37:15
Speaker 4: getting fired by the thousands because they're currently openly cheering
• 37:19
Speaker 4: Charlie Kirk's murder. That's not cancel culture. That's called accountability.
• 37:22
Speaker 4: It works every time it's tried. That karma has come
• 37:25
Speaker 4: home to Roosts says it's extra. There is a and
• 37:27
  Speaker 4: I don't I don't want to speak too much about
• 37:29
Speaker 4: this because I don't know all the details, but there
• 37:30
Speaker 4: is a school official uh in West Virginia, from the
• 37:34
Speaker 4: southern part of the state who is coming under a
• 37:38
Speaker 4: lot of fire right now. WVVA Television first had the
• 37:41
Speaker 4: story that he was a school employee, I think a teacher,
• 37:46
Speaker 4: but definitely a school employee who went on social media
• 37:49
Speaker 4: celebrating it and me and the school system had to
• 37:53
Speaker 4: put out a release about it. And look, you can
• 37:57
Speaker 4: say whatever you want to on your social media. It
• 38:01
Speaker 4: doesn't protect you from the consequences that come from But
• 38:04
Speaker 4: that's not free speech. I mean you can say it.
• 38:07
Speaker 4: Saying it is free speech, all right, doesn't protect you
• 38:11
Speaker 4: from the consequences though.
• 38:14
Speaker 8: Speaking of southern West Virginia, I went to mate Wane.
• 38:17
Speaker 4: Yesterday really under my neck of the woods, sort of
• 38:20
Speaker 4: one county over. What's going on in mate Wand.
• 38:23
Speaker 8: I'd been there once before, and I just wanted to go.
• 38:27
Speaker 8: I just wanted to go, and on Saturday. I went
• 38:31
Speaker 8: on Saturday because the museum's open, and I just think
• 38:36
  Speaker 8: it's a neat place.
• 38:38
Speaker 4: It is it is, and that's uh, And there's kind
• 38:41
Speaker 4: of an evolution going on down there, uh, you know,
• 38:44
Speaker 4: with the hatfil McCoy trail, right and and some various
• 38:46
Speaker 4: other things that are going on down there. They're really
• 38:49
Speaker 4: starting to embrace the history down there, which is which
• 38:52
Speaker 4: is very important. Uh So, I mean, I got a
• 38:57
Speaker 4: couple of texts here, Well, tell me about Mate One,
• 38:58
Speaker 4: tell me about you.
• 39:00
Speaker 8: First thing, I subscribe to YouTube and you can watch
• 39:06
Speaker 8: the movie Mate One on YouTube. Now maybe you can
• 39:12
Speaker 8: watch it without subscribing, but you might have to look
• 39:15
Speaker 8: at some commercials. Yeah, yeah, but I watched a commercial
• 39:19
Speaker 8: free and I think it's a great movie.
• 39:21
Speaker 4: Well, actually, a girl that I graduated high schools is
• 39:24
Speaker 4: in that movie. She was a local actress, Jennifer Klein.
• 39:28
Speaker 4: I don't remember the character that she played, but she
• 39:30
Speaker 4: was in the movie. I had a chance, really, of
• 39:32
Speaker 4: course you did. I know you did.
• 39:34
Speaker 6: I know you did.
• 39:35
Speaker 8: I had a chance. I would have been nothing. I mean,
• 39:38
Speaker 8: I'd have been some dirty face coal miner.
• 39:42
Speaker 4: And by the way, Danny did not mean all coal
• 39:45
Speaker 4: miners are dirty faced. Okay, no, I mean, but they
• 39:47
Speaker 4: had I know what you meant.
• 39:48
  Speaker 11: I know.
• 39:49
Speaker 8: There was one friend I had who.
• 39:54
  Speaker 16: He was.
• 39:54
Speaker 8: He played what we were, Annie, ok Annie gets your gun.
• 40:00
Speaker 8: He played Frank and he was in it as a
• 40:04
Speaker 8: dirty face coal miner, and all you could see is
• 40:08
Speaker 8: a glimpse of it. And there was a guy that
• 40:11
Speaker 8: was let him off the train, and I've had him
• 40:14
  Speaker 8: on this show.
• 40:17
  Speaker 2: He was.
• 40:19
Speaker 8: He said, you fellows, get off right here, and he
• 40:22
Speaker 8: had a he had a stick, and he sells cars here.
• 40:28
Speaker 8: And I could have I could have been an extra
• 40:31
Speaker 8: in that show, but I was sheriff at the time.
• 40:34
Speaker 8: I didn't want to give up my job.
• 40:35
Speaker 4: I got you, all right, uh, Tex, says Dave and
• 40:41
Speaker 4: Danny have spent the past ten years raising the temperature
• 40:45
Speaker 4: a local morning radio there's no equal morning show on
• 40:48
Speaker 4: the left here in Charleston or the state as right
• 40:51
Speaker 4: leaning as yours. And there's definitely not a radio station
• 40:54
Speaker 4: owned by Mansion Rockefeller and another Democratic candidate for governor.
• 40:58
Speaker 4: I mean, you and I needed one support President Trump? Okay,
• 41:03
  Speaker 4: I did, but I don't now I mean or or
• 41:08
Speaker 4: are we respond? Are we respond? Are we right wing?
• 41:12
Speaker 4: I'm a registered independent? You are as well?
• 41:15
  Speaker 19: Right?
• 41:15
  Speaker 4: I support Joe yes, right. I don't know that we've
• 41:19
Speaker 4: raised the temperature. I spent most of my time talking
• 41:21
Speaker 4: about community service event.
• 41:23
Speaker 8: Voter for Steve Williams, right, uh, and contributed to his campaign.
• 41:28
  Speaker 4: Right.
• 41:31
Speaker 8: I was for Ce Saunder was and actually worked in
• 41:34
Speaker 8: his administration. But I was friends with I contributed to
• 41:41
Speaker 8: Earl Ray. That's the last governor we'll have with two
• 41:44
  Speaker 8: first names.
• 41:47
Speaker 4: Maybe we'll see, we'll see about that. Speaking to governors,
• 41:50
Speaker 4: Jim Justice on talk line last week, really going after
• 41:55
Speaker 4: Governor Morrisey on several things, especially the vaccine issue, and
• 41:58
Speaker 4: for you know, in that Jim Justice style, for goshak
• 42:01
Speaker 4: sakes of living, what are we doing here? He said
• 42:04
Speaker 4: something to the effect I'm paraphrasing I wish uh, I
• 42:09
Speaker 4: wish governor more see, well, but I don't understand him.
• 42:12
Speaker 4: A lot of folks think that Jim Justice wants to
• 42:14
Speaker 4: be governor again, especially after the West Virginia pole that
• 42:17
Speaker 4: came out a couple of weeks ago. But says a
• 42:19
Speaker 4: lot of people think he's the best governor of their lifetime.
• 42:23
Speaker 4: And I mean there was a lot of people that
• 42:25
Speaker 4: said out, a lot of people but said that wow,
• 42:28
Speaker 4: and uh yeah, and so, uh what do you think?
• 42:31
Speaker 4: I mean, he's got a few years to go. But uh,
• 42:35
Speaker 4: when you think about Jim.
• 42:36
Speaker 8: Justice, I saw Governor Moore and Gaston were our two
• 42:39
  Speaker 8: best governor.
• 42:40
Speaker 4: Well everybody, I mean it's subjective. Everybody's going to have,
• 42:43
Speaker 4: you know, different opinions Governor Moore's.
• 42:44
Speaker 8: First two terms and uh guess since two terms, So.
• 42:49
Speaker 2: What do you think?
• 42:49
Speaker 4: Well, can you see Jim Justice coming back and run
• 42:51
  Speaker 4: for governor?
• 42:53
  Speaker 2: Oh?
• 42:54
  Speaker 8: I wouldn't think. So, I mean, well, I don't know.
• 42:57
  Speaker 8: I guess anything's possible.
• 43:00
Speaker 4: Me and knockout of text here prompts to Bill Maher
• 43:02

• 49:32
Speaker 8: I'm not into it. I've never been into lineage.
• 49:35
  Speaker 3: Now.
• 49:36
Speaker 8: I didn't find out that my great great grandfather was
• 49:41
Speaker 8: the shortest serving mayor of Charleston until I've been mayor
• 49:45
  Speaker 8: for six years.
• 49:46

• 51:17
Speaker 8: is Daniel Jones for sheriff, not Danny Jones for sharf.
