Speaker 1: Hello and welcome back to another episode of Mic Drop
• 0:16
Speaker 1: Comedy's podcast. We are live at Big Pine Comedy Festival.
• 0:20
Speaker 1: We are day two and I'm very excited to Yeah,
• 0:22
Speaker 1: he's got the pass. I'm sitting here with my pal,
• 0:24
  Speaker 1: John Boyd.
• 0:25
Speaker 2: Hello, everybody. I'm excited to be here and I'm excited
• 0:27
  Speaker 2: about this interview.
• 0:28
Speaker 1: I'm excited to have you here. You're truly one of
• 0:30
Speaker 1: my favorite. Now I call you a local comic. How
• 0:34
Speaker 1: long have you been out in Phoenix now?
• 0:36
Speaker 2: I've been in Phoenix probably about four years now.
• 0:39
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 0:39
Speaker 2: And I've been a comedian for almost three. So my
• 0:42
Speaker 2: anniversary is April 22nd. So in a few weeks.
• 0:45
Speaker 1: I feel like I met you at a Big Pine.
• 0:47
Speaker 2: I think we did.
• 0:47
Speaker 1: Yeah, the first one. But you weren't living out here yet.
• 0:50
Speaker 1: You were still in.
• 0:51
Speaker 2: You have a good memory. Florida, yeah.
• 0:52
Speaker 1: I remember meeting you and you were like, I think
• 0:55
Speaker 1: that you were thinking about moving out here. Yes. And
• 0:58
Speaker 1: I was like, I hope you do.
• 0:59
Speaker 2: Oh my... And she's the reason I'm here.
• 1:01
Speaker 1: We chatted on the patio out in the garden.
• 1:04
  Speaker 2: Holy crap.
• 1:05
Speaker 1: And I was so excited. I was like, he seems
• 1:06
Speaker 1: super nice. Yeah. I hope you do move out here.
• 1:09
Speaker 2: Thank you. And I made the move. And I'm excited
• 1:11
  Speaker 2: to be here.
• 1:12
Speaker 1: And... You are a fabulous addition to the Phoenix scene.
• 1:16
  Speaker 2: Thank you.
• 1:17
Speaker 1: Truly. I'm not just saying that because we're sitting out
• 1:19
Speaker 1: front here at Mic Drop in Chandler. But you are.
• 1:24
Speaker 1: You host a really fun show, and you're actually hosting
• 1:27
Speaker 1: it in like an hour and a half here.
• 1:29
Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm excited about it. It's called Be Funny, and
• 1:32
Speaker 2: it's a comedy spelling bee. Yes. Yeah, super exciting. So
• 1:35
Speaker 2: what happens is comics spell a word. If they misspell
• 1:37
Speaker 2: the word, they need to put it in their set.
• 1:39
Speaker 2: It's been really cool. We've been here. We've been at
• 1:41
Speaker 2: Mic Drop for almost a year. We've been running a
• 1:44
Speaker 2: show for almost a year and a half. So we
• 1:46
Speaker 2: got to Mic Drop pretty fast, which is exciting.
• 1:48
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 1:49
Speaker 2: And our first viral clip just hit. We just got
• 1:51
Speaker 2: almost 10 million views across all socials.
• 1:53
  Speaker 1: Yeah. That's awesome.
• 1:55
  Speaker 2: I'm really excited.
• 1:56
Speaker 1: I noticed that I won one of the Spelling Bees.
• 1:59
  Speaker 2: Yes, you did.
• 2:00
Speaker 1: And I don't know if you've ever shared my clip.
• 2:03
Speaker 1: This is actually a confrontation.
• 2:05
Speaker 2: Oh, I've been set up. I've been bamboozled.
• 2:08
Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm like, meet me. It's on site, John Boyd.
• 2:11
Speaker 2: All the footage from all the Spelling Bees will be
• 2:13
Speaker 2: on YouTube very, very shortly. Okay. I think the hard
• 2:17
Speaker 2: part for me and what's been great about the scene
• 2:19
Speaker 2: is meeting that level of quality and excellence.
• 2:22
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 2:23
Speaker 2: And that's what we always strive for. So if it's, like,
• 2:25
Speaker 2: not perfect, I won't put it out.
• 2:26
Speaker 1: Are you saying that my set was not perfect? No, no, no.
• 2:29
Speaker 2: I think it was perfect. I think the edit that
• 2:31
Speaker 2: we need to make isn't perfect yet. So it will
• 2:33
Speaker 2: be there, and I promise you it will be on
• 2:34
Speaker 2: YouTube soon. YouTube soon.
• 2:36
Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm very proud of my little spelling bee award.
• 2:39
Speaker 1: I do have it up on my shelf with some other, like,
• 2:41
Speaker 1: comedy things. You know, like some comedy albums and some stuff.
• 2:44
Speaker 1: And then I think you told me you got it
• 2:46
Speaker 1: from like Timu or something. But I was very proud
• 2:49
Speaker 1: of it. I was like, look at me.
• 2:51
Speaker 2: You were really good at the spell. What's funny is
• 2:53
Speaker 2: most comics stink at it. But you were really good
• 2:55
Speaker 2: and funny. So thank you for doing it.
• 2:57
Speaker 1: It's a very fun show. I feel like everybody has
• 3:00
Speaker 1: a good time with it. And I can tell you
• 3:02
Speaker 1: guys have a lot of fun with it.
• 3:03
  Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a blast.
• 3:04
Speaker 1: You have your co-host?
• 3:05
Speaker 2: Yeah, my co-host, Sean Smith.
• 3:06
Speaker 1: He also, you can tell he's having a good time.
• 3:08
  Speaker 2: He's having a blast. Yeah.
• 3:10
Speaker 1: So during the show, comics, are you doing it tonight
• 3:13
Speaker 1: where they get to, like, spin the wheel? Yeah. So
• 3:15
Speaker 1: what are some of the things? Tell people if they
• 3:17
Speaker 1: haven't checked the show out. Yeah.
• 3:19
Speaker 2: So there are a bunch of things you can do
• 3:21
Speaker 2: on the wheel. Oh, there's a bunch of things you
• 3:28
Speaker 2: can do on the wheel. So, like, if you misspell
• 3:30
Speaker 2: a word, you have to spin the wheel. And then
• 3:32
Speaker 2: there are various things. So you have to, like, do
• 3:35
Speaker 2: a confession. You have to spit your game, which, like,
• 3:38
Speaker 2: Tell us your favorite pickup line. You have to spell
• 3:41
Speaker 2: the word backwards. You have to phone a friend. That's
• 3:45
Speaker 2: my favorite one. Where you got to call your mom
• 3:46
Speaker 2: and see if they can help you spell it. It's
• 3:49
Speaker 2: a lot of fun.
• 3:50
Speaker 1: Do you have some favorite moments from the show? I'm
• 3:53
Speaker 1: sure just like comics trying to spell. Would you say, like,
• 3:57
Speaker 1: are you guys, when you're looking for words, are you
• 3:59
Speaker 1: like looking at like, okay, seventh grade reading level? Because
• 4:03
Speaker 1: some of them are challenging. Some of them for sure
• 4:05
Speaker 1: are like. not ordinary words.
• 4:07
Speaker 2: Yeah, we try our hardest to put the most tricky
• 4:10
Speaker 2: words that we can, because we recognize that comics have
• 4:13
Speaker 2: a big ego, and also they're dumb, so it's like...
• 4:17
Speaker 2: So I'm all in for the chaos.
• 4:18
Speaker 1: Okay, watch it though, because you've got to do trivia
• 4:21
Speaker 1: here in a little bit. Oh, well, yeah.
• 4:23
Speaker 2: I'm going to miss every trivia word.
• 4:25
Speaker 1: I'm going to make you spell the answers, too.
• 4:29
Speaker 2: Ironically enough, I'm the worst speller.
• 4:30
Speaker 1: I was going to ask if you were a good speller.
• 4:33
Speaker 2: No, no, no, no. I remember in seventh grade, I
• 4:36
Speaker 2: was one of the first people out of the spelling
• 4:38
Speaker 2: bee for the word conscious.
• 4:40
  Speaker 1: I mean, that's a tough word, though.
• 4:41
Speaker 2: It's a tricky word, right? But then that just deflated me,
• 4:43
Speaker 2: so I just never learned how to spell.
• 4:44
Speaker 1: I think I got out of the spelling bee, the
• 4:46
Speaker 1: word government. I missed the end. Yeah. And I still
• 4:50
Speaker 1: hate the government. That's the, that's my origin story. It's
• 4:56
Speaker 1: been bullshit since then. I think that was like fourth grade. Um,
• 5:01
Speaker 1: that's great. Um, So have you seen some good, like,
• 5:04
Speaker 1: meltdowns from comics trying to spell words?
• 5:07
Speaker 2: I've seen some good meltdowns. Last time at Mic Drop,
• 5:09
Speaker 2: Chase took his pants off. Chase Harder, he took his
• 5:12
Speaker 2: pants off. That video is coming soon.
• 5:14
Speaker 1: Is that the viral clip?
• 5:15
Speaker 2: Because I feel like that.
• 5:17
Speaker 1: It will be. I feel like that has the opportunity.
• 5:21
Speaker 2: It will be. And one of my favorite comedians locally,
• 5:24
Speaker 2: his name's Anwar Newton. We did a phone a friend
• 5:27
Speaker 2: challenge and he called his son. And it was like
• 5:29
Speaker 2: the cutest thing. And then at the end of it,
• 5:32
Speaker 2: he says, spell this word so daddy can come home.
• 5:34
Speaker 2: And it just like broke the room.
• 5:36
  Speaker 1: That's so cute.
• 5:37
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 5:38
Speaker 1: I don't know how old his little one is. He
• 5:39
Speaker 1: talks about his little one. Yeah.
• 5:41
  Speaker 2: Like he's a baby.
• 5:42
  Speaker 1: That's adorable. Yeah.
• 5:44
  Speaker 2: It's really cool.
• 5:45
Speaker 1: I love that. So you were here a few years
• 5:48
Speaker 1: ago as a comic. Yeah. On the festival. And it
• 5:50
Speaker 1: sounds like you were pretty new to comedy then, right?
• 5:54
Speaker 1: Because you said you've only been.
• 5:55
Speaker 2: My three-year anniversary is in like two or three weeks.
• 5:59
Speaker 1: So when you were here at Big Pine, you were
• 6:02
Speaker 1: only like a little bit into... Hell yeah.
• 6:04
Speaker 2: And that's what I liked about Big Pine because it's
• 6:06
Speaker 2: open to like the local comedians. So I was able
• 6:10
Speaker 2: to just like walk in. soak up all the game,
• 6:13
Speaker 2: talk to a bunch of different comedians, watch all the panels,
• 6:16
Speaker 2: eat food with the comedians. And I think that, in
• 6:18
Speaker 2: a combination with our conversations, that kind of gave me
• 6:20
Speaker 2: the confidence to pursue this. And I've been having fun
• 6:24
  Speaker 2: ever since.
• 6:25
Speaker 1: So you were still in Gainesville?
• 6:27
  Speaker 2: Tampa.
• 6:28
  Speaker 1: Tampa, Florida.
• 6:28
Speaker 2: Yeah, I was in Tampa. Okay.
• 6:30
Speaker 1: We got a local comic trying to, what's he, he's dancing?
• 6:33
Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. He's touching his nipples. It was weird.
• 6:35
Speaker 2: It made me uncomfortable. His name is Jason Santiago.
• 6:38
Speaker 1: Yeah. We'll tag him. Yeah. He's on a list somewhere probably.
• 6:42
Speaker 1: Is he on the show later or something?
• 6:44
  Speaker 2: I don't think so. I think he's just here to
• 6:45
Speaker 2: touch his nipples around people.
• 6:46
Speaker 1: It's weird. Are you hoping to check out some of
• 6:49
Speaker 1: the panels this weekend? Yeah.
• 6:51
Speaker 2: I saw that Nate Jackson is coming, and that's very,
• 6:54
Speaker 2: very exciting. He's one of my favorite comedians.
• 6:56
  Speaker 1: Hell yeah.
• 6:56
Speaker 2: Yeah. So I want to definitely check that one out.
• 7:00
Speaker 2: I missed the one today, but I'm going to be
• 7:01
Speaker 2: available tomorrow. There's so much good stuff going on. That's
• 7:05
Speaker 2: one of my favorite things about this is all of that.
• 7:07
Speaker 2: We were talking about it with another comic I read.
• 7:10
Speaker 2: I just saw it was passing by, and she was like,
• 7:12
Speaker 2: I was at all of them this morning, like, taking notes.
• 7:14
Speaker 1: Yeah. Because there's so much good stuff.
• 7:15
  Speaker 2: Honestly.
• 7:16
Speaker 1: And people so willing to, like, share information. Yeah.
• 7:18
Speaker 2: And, like, I just like the way that they curate
• 7:21
Speaker 2: the list of comics. Because I've been to a couple
• 7:24
Speaker 2: of different festivals, and I've actually been a part of festivals.
• 7:26
Speaker 2: And this, by far, is, like, the most friendly, the
• 7:30
Speaker 2: best comics. Everybody's cool. Like, I really do enjoy it.
• 7:33
Speaker 1: Hell yeah. Yeah. Do you want to talk shit about anyone?
• 7:34
Speaker 2: No, no, no, right now. I'm still trying to get
• 7:37
Speaker 2: past those different clubs, but not yet. Give me like
• 7:39
Speaker 2: three more years. Well, that's the people you don't like.
• 7:42
Speaker 1: One thing we can complain about, the heat. It's tough.
• 7:46
  Speaker 2: It's tough.
• 7:47
Speaker 1: Not as bad as a few years ago, though, when
• 7:49
Speaker 1: the festival was in September. I felt bad for some
• 7:53
  Speaker 1: traveling comics.
• 7:54
  Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
• 7:54
Speaker 1: They were like in real cute. They had their outfits
• 7:57
Speaker 1: and it was like a hundred.
• 7:58
  Speaker 2: 30 minutes later.
• 7:58
Speaker 1: Yeah. Just melting like 115 degrees. And I'm like, This
• 8:02
Speaker 1: is not a good way to be like, hey.
• 8:05
Speaker 2: Come out to Phoenix and perform.
• 8:07
Speaker 1: It's such a fun scene. Everyone has swass. I just
• 8:11
Speaker 1: went in the bathroom with one sweaty armpit. I'm like,
• 8:13
Speaker 1: this is not a good way to make a good impression.
• 8:15
  Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
• 8:16
Speaker 1: There's all these nice industry people. And I'm like, hi.
• 8:19
Speaker 2: Everybody looks so bad. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 8:22
Speaker 1: Just like, this is not it. Big Pine. Please take
• 8:25
Speaker 1: us back to Flagstaff. Please.
• 8:27
Speaker 2: That's where the festival started.
• 8:29
Speaker 1: That's why we got the little pine tree. I'm like,
• 8:31
Speaker 1: give us some elevation.
• 8:33
Speaker 2: Yeah, give us some cool air.
• 8:36
Speaker 1: But we're lucky. We get to have it here in Chandler.
• 8:39
Speaker 2: In downtown Chandler, yeah.
• 8:40
Speaker 1: And are you guys going to be in the main room?
• 8:43
Speaker 2: We're going to be in the garden.
• 8:44
  Speaker 1: Hell yeah.
• 8:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, we're going to be in the garden 9 o'clock tonight.
• 8:47
Speaker 2: Doors open at 8. And we are actually going to
• 8:49
Speaker 2: be here a little bit earlier. We're here a little
• 8:50
Speaker 2: bit earlier to bark. We want to make sure that
• 8:52
Speaker 2: we fill out the room.
• 8:52
Speaker 1: I love it. It's a really fun show. So you guys,
• 8:55
Speaker 1: how often do you have the show here at Mic Drop?
• 8:58
Speaker 2: So right now it's been monthly, which if you are
• 9:02
Speaker 2: available in the area whenever this drops, DM me at
• 9:06
Speaker 2: Johnny Tsunami and I will give you a free ticket.
• 9:08
  Speaker 2: Hell yeah.
• 9:08
Speaker 1: I love it. It is a very fun show. I
• 9:11
Speaker 1: feel like it's great if you're a big comedy fan
• 9:15
Speaker 1: or if you're just looking for a fun thing. It's
• 9:17
Speaker 1: just a fun and silly show and you get comics
• 9:20
Speaker 1: like you know, like you said, the ego, you can
• 9:23
Speaker 1: see like people that are like trying to take it
• 9:24
Speaker 1: seriously and like trying to win. Yep.
• 9:27
Speaker 2: And then you get people that don't care at all.
• 9:28
Speaker 2: And it's still fun.
• 9:29
Speaker 1: But fun seeing comics, like trying to like work the
• 9:32
Speaker 1: word into their set or like, they're like, I don't
• 9:35
Speaker 1: know what this word means. it's just like a fun
• 9:37
Speaker 1: i feel like it kind of like the playing field.
• 9:39
Speaker 2: It's it's even because yeah it's like half comedy and
• 9:43
Speaker 2: then kind of half improv too yeah it.
• 9:45
Speaker 1: Feels a little like variety show too and i can
• 9:47
Speaker 1: tell you and it's sean yeah i can tell you
• 9:50
Speaker 1: guys are having a good time up on the panel
• 9:52
  Speaker 1: like watching everyone it's a blast yeah it's a really
• 9:55
Speaker 1: fun show so make sure you check that out please
• 9:58
Speaker 1: at mic drop it is worth the drive from wherever
• 10:00
Speaker 1: you are in Arizona.
• 10:02
Speaker 2: Especially for a free ticket at Johnny Tsunami.
• 10:04
Speaker 1: Please. Hell yeah, that's very nice. This is a good club.
• 10:08
Speaker 1: I believe it's time for a little trivia.
• 10:10
Speaker 2: Let's do it. I'm locked in. Let's get it.
• 10:12
Speaker 1: I'm nervous for you only because you were talking shit
• 10:14
Speaker 1: about comics, having egos, and thinking they're something.
• 10:18
  Speaker 2: I'm a hypocrite sometimes, so that's fine.
• 10:22
  Speaker 1: All right.
• 10:22
Speaker 2: All right, let's do it.
• 10:23
  Speaker 1: He's feeling good.
• 10:24
  Speaker 2: I'm feeling confident.
• 10:25
Speaker 1: I feel like this is a tough one.
• 10:27
Speaker 2: Let it rip. Let's go.
• 10:28
Speaker 1: How many Indiana Jones films are there? Let's go with
• 10:33
Speaker 1: a little multiple choice for my friend here. Is it four, five,
• 10:40
  Speaker 1: or six?
• 10:42
Speaker 2: I'm going to be honest. I can't name one Indiana Jones.
• 10:46
Speaker 1: Not one? Not one.
• 10:46
Speaker 2: Like, in my brain, I wanted to say, like, Indiana
• 10:49
Speaker 2: Jones and the Sorcerer's Stone. But that's like Harry Potter, right?
• 10:54
Speaker 2: And the Garden of Eden. But Eden, he's not Christian.
• 10:57
Speaker 2: I don't know. And the Sorcerer's Stone. My answer is five.
• 11:03
Speaker 1: That's a really good answer because that's the correct answer. Ding, ding, ding.
• 11:06
  Speaker 1: I know I started a little too high. I should
• 11:08
Speaker 1: have been like, are there three, four, or five? But
• 11:10
Speaker 1: I was like, who has six movies? Like, Star Wars and....
• 11:15
  Speaker 2: Scream.
• 11:17
Speaker 1: Lord of the Rings, maybe? I don't know.
• 11:18
  Speaker 2: I don't know.
• 11:19
Speaker 1: My husband's going to be mad I didn't know that.
• 11:20
Speaker 2: Fast and Furious. Let's go with Fast and Furious, yeah.
• 11:22
Speaker 1: Fast and Furious? Yeah, it's like the Fast and Furious dynasty. Okay,
• 11:25
Speaker 1: I feel like this one is going to be a
• 11:27
  Speaker 1: softball for you.
• 11:28
Speaker 2: Okay, let's do it.
• 11:29
Speaker 1: Can you name all of the original colors of the
• 11:32
  Speaker 1: Power Rangers?
• 11:33
Speaker 2: Absolutely, I can. Yeah. The original? Yeah. Okay, that's it. Okay,
• 11:39
Speaker 2: this is where I don't want to be like the
• 11:40
Speaker 2: nerd guy, but like... Here we go. I don't know
• 11:43
Speaker 2: if we count green, but I'm just going to go
• 11:45
Speaker 2: with the 1993 movie. So that's yellow, black, red, blue, pink.
• 11:56
Speaker 2: I don't... See, that's... The movie had white, but then
• 11:59
Speaker 2: he was green. So I don't know if... White. That's
• 12:03
Speaker 2: my final answer. I mean.
• 12:04
Speaker 1: Am I missing one?
• 12:04
Speaker 2: You were correct. You were correct.
• 12:07
  Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
• 12:08
  Speaker 2: Green?
• 12:08
Speaker 1: Oh, come on. I don't have the white one listed
• 12:10
Speaker 1: on here. I think... Yeah. Okay.
• 12:14
Speaker 2: Well, didn't that count still?
• 12:15
Speaker 1: Liliana's hoping with the assist here.
• 12:16
Speaker 2: Thank you, Liliana. Can I still count?
• 12:18
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 12:18
  Speaker 2: All right, party.
• 12:19
Speaker 1: I'm very generous with points here because it doesn't mean anything.
• 12:21
Speaker 1: I'm just like, you tried your best.
• 12:23
Speaker 2: Two points. You get an A for effort.
• 12:25
  Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
• 12:25
  Speaker 2: Thank you.
• 12:25
Speaker 1: Were you a big Power Rangers fan?
• 12:27
Speaker 2: Absolutely. The first thing I wanted to be was a
• 12:29
Speaker 2: Power Ranger in my whole life.
• 12:30
Speaker 1: Yeah. What color Power Ranger would you want to be?
• 12:32
  Speaker 2: Oh, come on.
• 12:32
  Speaker 1: Black. Black. Yeah.
• 12:33
Speaker 2: The Black Ranger, he was doing back flips and break dancing.
• 12:36
Speaker 2: It does feel a little.
• 12:38
Speaker 1: Weird, the racial coloring in that show. That is a little....
• 12:43
  Speaker 2: It's a little weird.
• 12:44
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It feels a little weird, but I didn't.
• 12:49
Speaker 2: Want to say it. Yeah, who cared?
• 12:51
Speaker 1: It was a fun show.
• 12:52
Speaker 2: The black was black.
• 12:53
  Speaker 1: Come on.
• 12:55
  Speaker 2: I can't say any other colors because I don't want
• 12:56
Speaker 2: this to get flagged.
• 12:58
Speaker 1: It felt a little weird.
• 12:59
Speaker 2: If you know, you know.
• 13:00
Speaker 1: Yeah. It was a different time.
• 13:03
Speaker 2: We know better, so we do better.
• 13:05
  Speaker 1: Right.
• 13:05
  Speaker 2: Amen.
• 13:07
Speaker 1: Okay. The actor, Noah Wiley... It's the start of two
• 13:13
Speaker 1: shows based on hospitals. ER and The Pit.
• 13:18
Speaker 2: I love The Pit.
• 13:19
Speaker 1: I haven't watched it yet, but I know people love it.
• 13:22
Speaker 2: Have you all seen The Pit?
• 13:23
Speaker 1: I do want to watch it.
• 13:24
Speaker 2: Oh, it's the best show on TV right now.
• 13:26
Speaker 1: I want to watch it. I've heard very good things.
• 13:28
Speaker 1: And I definitely see the meme of him all the
• 13:31
Speaker 1: time looking in the room. I see it all the
• 13:35
  Speaker 1: time on threads.
• 13:36
Speaker 2: It's the best show for somebody that has ADD. Because
• 13:39
Speaker 2: it goes from like, you know, sick person to sick
• 13:42
Speaker 2: person to sick person to like sex and drama to
• 13:44
  Speaker 2: sick person.
• 13:45
Speaker 1: All your favorite things.
• 13:46
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 13:49
Speaker 1: You're like, this is all I need.
• 13:51
  Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
• 13:51
Speaker 1: No, I have heard that it's great and I want
• 13:54
Speaker 1: to watch it. One thing I heard is like that
• 13:56
Speaker 1: they did, I think it was like an ice related episode.
• 13:59
Speaker 1: People were like, this is political.
• 14:03
Speaker 2: And they did it really tastefully though.
• 14:05
Speaker 1: I'm sure. Yeah. I'm sure they did.
• 14:07
  Speaker 2: Really, really nice.
• 14:08
Speaker 1: Okay, this is, I feel like, an interesting one for
• 14:10
Speaker 1: Carlos Rodriguez, who writes all of our questions.
• 14:13
Speaker 2: Shout out to Carlos.
• 14:14
Speaker 1: Shout out to Carlos. How many tablespoons are in a
• 14:16
Speaker 1: stick of butter? Eight.
• 14:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that. What's funny is... I love to cook.
• 14:23
  Speaker 1: Do you?
• 14:24
Speaker 2: I do. And I use a lot of butter. And
• 14:25
Speaker 2: you know, good butter. Can I go on my butter spiel?
• 14:28
Speaker 1: Please. This is your time.
• 14:29
  Speaker 2: Oh, thank you.
• 14:31
  Speaker 1: Speak on it.
• 14:31
Speaker 2: Thank you. So, like, you'll have, like, bad butter, which is, like, $ 4. Uh-huh.
• 14:36
Speaker 2: How much do you think, like, four eight-tablespoon sticks of...
• 14:40
Speaker 2: Or eight sticks of... Excuse me.
• 14:41
  Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
• 14:42
  Speaker 2: How many four.
• 14:45
Speaker 1: It's okay. We'll edit it out. Don't worry.
• 14:47
Speaker 2: How many... How much money do you think four sticks
• 14:51
Speaker 2: of good butter costs?
• 14:52
Speaker 1: Are we talking like Kerrygold?
• 14:54
Speaker 2: Kerrygold. Irish butter. I'm talking about, we're talking about telemook. Okay?
• 14:59
Speaker 2: We're talking about good butter.
• 15:00
Speaker 1: I like to bake.
• 15:01
Speaker 2: Oh, so you know how much it costs.
• 15:03
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 15:04
Speaker 2: Yeah, like 20 bucks for those who don't know. Just
• 15:06
Speaker 2: some good ass butter. And it's worth it, though. That's
• 15:08
Speaker 2: my thing is I always buy expensive butter.
• 15:10
Speaker 1: So, yeah. Okay. Come on.
• 15:12
  Speaker 2: I'm butter, man.
• 15:12
Speaker 1: This is a very fun fact to learn about you.
• 15:15
Speaker 2: I love to cook, man.
• 15:16
Speaker 1: Is it just a comic that you've seen here and
• 15:18
Speaker 1: there that you love to talk to? And they're just like,
• 15:20
Speaker 1: I fucking love butter.
• 15:21
Speaker 2: I fucking love butter. And I'm ready to speak on it.
• 15:23
Speaker 2: And can I say something on this podcast? This is
• 15:24
Speaker 2: a podcast exclusive. So me and the cook here at
• 15:28
Speaker 2: Mic Drop are working on a show called, what is
• 15:32
Speaker 2: it called? Pressure Cooker, where we're going to do comics
• 15:36
  Speaker 2: and cooking.
• 15:37
  Speaker 1: I love that.
• 15:38
Speaker 2: Is it Scott? Scott, yeah. So we're excited. That's going
• 15:42
Speaker 2: to come probably in the fall.
• 15:43
Speaker 1: I believe his tag is Memphis Cooks.
• 15:45
Speaker 2: Yeah, you got a good memory.
• 15:46
  Speaker 1: He's a good guy. I just love when I come
• 15:48
Speaker 1: in here, I try to go in and say hi
• 15:50
Speaker 1: to everybody. He's a good dude.
• 15:51
Speaker 2: He's an awesome guy. And he works at Mic Drop Mania,
• 15:54
Speaker 2: located here at Down.
• 15:55
Speaker 1: He makes delicious nachos. He makes pretzels.
• 15:58
Speaker 2: He's a good guy. Yes, he does. He's a good guy.
• 15:59
Speaker 1: He brought his daughter to a comedy panel that we did.
• 16:02
  Speaker 1: She wants to.
• 16:04
Speaker 2: Have you seen her set?
• 16:05
  Speaker 1: No.
• 16:06
  Speaker 2: She is so.
• 16:06
Speaker 1: But I love that.
• 16:07
Speaker 2: It was very wholesome. He just sent it to me
• 16:08
Speaker 2: last weekend. It's so funny.
• 16:10
  Speaker 1: I believe it.
• 16:11
  Speaker 2: She's like 13 and she's a natural.
• 16:13
Speaker 1: I love it. Yeah. We love to see more women
• 16:15
  Speaker 1: in comedy.
• 16:16
Speaker 2: More women in comedy.
• 16:17
Speaker 1: Yes. That's very cool. What's your favorite dish to cook
• 16:21
Speaker 1: with all your butter?
• 16:22
  Speaker 2: Wow.
• 16:22
Speaker 1: With all your fancy expensive butter.
• 16:24
Speaker 2: So I like to make a spicy rigatoni.
• 16:27
  Speaker 1: Oh, shit. Yeah.
• 16:28
  Speaker 2: I do.
• 16:28
  Speaker 1: I do.
• 16:29
  Speaker 2: There's a.
• 16:31
Speaker 2: There is a restaurant called Carbone. That's in New York
• 16:34
Speaker 2: and LA. And they have a really, really nice spicy rigatoni.
• 16:38
Speaker 2: And I do a copycat dish of that. Yeah, it's
• 16:40
  Speaker 2: very good.
• 16:41
Speaker 1: So when you were trying to win over your lady,
• 16:45
Speaker 1: did you cook for her?
• 16:45
Speaker 2: Absolutely. Yeah, for sure.
• 16:47
Speaker 1: What did you cook for her?
• 16:48
Speaker 2: A spicy rigatoni. Tried and true.
• 16:52
  Speaker 1: Still together?
• 16:53
  Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
• 16:54
Speaker 1: So it must be really good.
• 16:55
  Speaker 2: It's amazing.
• 16:56
  Speaker 1: I love that. I feel like that's a fun fact
• 16:59
Speaker 1: about you. Yeah. You like to.
• 17:01
Speaker 2: I love to cook.
• 17:01
Speaker 1: A man cares about his butter. We love it.
• 17:03
  Speaker 2: That's right.
• 17:03
Speaker 1: Butter, man. John Boyd cares about the butter. What year
• 17:07
Speaker 1: did the iPhone debut?
• 17:10
  Speaker 2: 2007.
• 17:11
  Speaker 1: I love it.
• 17:11
Speaker 2: Did you see my notes? No, I didn't. I just
• 17:13
  Speaker 2: know that.
• 17:13
Speaker 1: How did you know that?
• 17:14
Speaker 2: I love tech, too. Yeah. I'm a renaissance man.
• 17:18
  Speaker 1: He is.
• 17:18
Speaker 2: I do it all. I cook. I clean. I like butter.
• 17:22
Speaker 2: I know about iPhone. I do it all. I'm funny.
• 17:24
  Speaker 1: I'm hilarious. You're a decent speller.
• 17:26
  Speaker 2: Thank you.
• 17:27
Speaker 1: Well. A good dude.
• 17:28
  Speaker 2: Now.
• 17:29
Speaker 1: Yeah. Thank you. Wow. Okay, here's one for you. Who
• 17:33
Speaker 1: was on the $ 50 bill?
• 17:37
Speaker 2: Holy shit. Can I curse? Sorry.
• 17:40
Speaker 1: I mean, we've said all kinds of horrible stuff on here.
• 17:42
  Speaker 2: I don't even remember. I curse so much I don't
• 17:43
Speaker 2: even think about it.
• 17:44
  Speaker 1: Is it.
• 17:45
Speaker 2: Who was on the $ 50 bill?
• 17:46
  Speaker 1: Andrew Jackson.
• 17:47
  Speaker 2: No, he's on the $ 20.
• 17:48
Speaker 1: Ulysses Grant. Or Harriet Tubman.
• 17:51
Speaker 2: Well, Harriet Tubman should have been on the $ 20. That's
• 17:53
Speaker 2: some controversy. So it's Grant. That's right.
• 17:58
Speaker 1: See, another just lob it. Just... Right to you. I
• 18:02
Speaker 1: feel like you're killing it with the points. How many
• 18:04
Speaker 1: points does he have?
• 18:05
  Speaker 2: Come on, man.
• 18:06
  Speaker 1: Come on.
• 18:07
Speaker 2: How many questions are left?
• 18:09
  Speaker 1: Four.
• 18:09
Speaker 2: Let's full sweep this thing. Come on. Let's do it.
• 18:11
Speaker 1: You might know this from your viewing of ER and
• 18:14
Speaker 1: The Pit, but what does DOA stand for?
• 18:17
Speaker 2: Dead on Arrival. Yes. Come on, man.
• 18:19
  Speaker 1: Crushing it.
• 18:20
Speaker 2: Come on, man. Let's get 10 for 10. Let's do it.
• 18:22
  Speaker 2: Come on.
• 18:22
Speaker 1: I'm right there. I think this might be the first
• 18:23
Speaker 1: 10 for 10 in Blackjack. An ace can be valued
• 18:27
Speaker 1: as which two numbers?
• 18:30
  Speaker 2: A one or an 11.
• 18:31
  Speaker 1: Fuck.
• 18:32
Speaker 2: Come on. I'm locked in. I'm locked in. What happens
• 18:35
Speaker 2: if he sweeps all of them? Brian, I'm locked in.
• 18:37
Speaker 2: Come on, man. I'm locked in.
• 18:38
Speaker 1: He's got... Two more.
• 18:39
  Speaker 2: Two more.
• 18:40
  Speaker 1: Oh, shit.
• 18:41
  Speaker 2: Okay.
• 18:42
Speaker 1: What was Kevin Hart's first special titled?
• 18:45
  Speaker 2: I don't know.
• 18:47
Speaker 1: It's... I can make some up. No, it's... If you need.
• 18:54
Speaker 1: I didn't know this one. He's thinking hard.
• 19:01
Speaker 2: It's not Laugh At My Pain because that was the
• 19:03
Speaker 2: one that came after. And is it called Funny Little Man?
• 19:08
  Speaker 1: Dang.
• 19:11
  Speaker 2: Is it?
• 19:12
  Speaker 1: Is it?
• 19:12
Speaker 2: Chuck, what's up, Chuck?
• 19:13
Speaker 1: Yeah. What's up, bro? Good to see you.
• 19:16
Speaker 2: I'm in the middle of a trivia.
• 19:17
Speaker 1: Sorry. I thought he was about to phone a friend.
• 19:19
Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. I should. Nice to see you too, brother.
• 19:23
  Speaker 2: It's been, right?
• 19:23
Speaker 1: See ya. Just making friends here.
• 19:26
Speaker 2: Is it, is it, it's not, I'm close.
• 19:30
  Speaker 1: You're real close.
• 19:31
Speaker 2: I know the joke, because he does this joke where
• 19:35
Speaker 2: he's like on a stool and he does like his
• 19:38
Speaker 2: legs and where he's talking to a girl.
• 19:40
Speaker 1: Yeah. I feel like, I feel like we're so close
• 19:44
Speaker 1: to making a Mic Drop Comedy podcast history here at
• 19:48
Speaker 1: Big Pine on day two.
• 19:49
Speaker 2: I shouldn't ask for the multiple choice because now when
• 19:52
Speaker 2: you say it, I'm going to know it.
• 19:52
Speaker 1: And local delight, John Boyd.
• 19:54
Speaker 2: It's not funny little man. It's like funny.
• 19:56
  Speaker 1: I don't remember. All right.
• 20:02
Speaker 2: Give me the multiple choice. Just make up three and
• 20:03
Speaker 2: then just like confuse me. I'm ready.
• 20:05
  Speaker 1: Come on.
• 20:06
Speaker 2: I'm sorry. We're going to. I'm going to use my lifeline.
• 20:08
Speaker 1: Is it Laughing in My Pain? No.
• 20:12
Speaker 2: That's the second one.
• 20:13
Speaker 1: Poor Little Man? No. Or I'm a Grown Little Man?
• 20:16
Speaker 2: I'm a Grown Little Man. That's what it is. Yeah,
• 20:17
Speaker 2: he got it. He got it. I'm a Grown Little Man.
• 20:18
Speaker 2: There you go. Thank you.
• 20:19
Speaker 1: With the assist. With the assist.
• 20:21
  Speaker 2: Appreciate the assist.
• 20:22
  Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 20:22
Speaker 2: And let's do this last one. Let's knock it right
• 20:24
Speaker 2: out of the park.
• 20:24
Speaker 1: What failed music streaming service was founded by rapper Jay-Z?
• 20:30
  Speaker 2: Oh, title.
• 20:31
Speaker 1: Hell yeah. Come on, man. Come on. A round of applause. Yeah.
• 20:37
Speaker 1: Look in that camera, too. Let them see you. Let
• 20:39
Speaker 1: them see you. Dang, you crushed it.
• 20:42
Speaker 2: Thank you. I appreciate it.
• 20:43
Speaker 1: Hell, yeah. Are you feeling good for the Be Funny tonight?
• 20:47
  Speaker 2: I feel a lot better.
• 20:49
  Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah.
• 20:49
Speaker 2: This was exciting. This made me get in my funny groove,
• 20:52
Speaker 2: and I feel sharp.
• 20:53
Speaker 1: We should have had you spell all of your answers. No.
• 20:55
Speaker 2: Jesus Christ. Just spell.
• 21:00
Speaker 1: I'm, like, looking for.
• 21:01
Speaker 2: Please don't. I'm going to spell it wrong. No, no.
• 21:04
  Speaker 1: That's a tough one.
• 21:06
  Speaker 2: G-R-A-E.
• 21:07
Speaker 1: Do you have a word that you consistently spell wrong?
• 21:09
Speaker 2: All of them. I am the worst. Like, thank God
• 21:11
Speaker 2: for autocorrect. I really am the worst speller.
• 21:13
Speaker 1: One for me is restaurant.
• 21:15
Speaker 2: Oh, is it the first T? The A-U.
• 21:19
  Speaker 1: I'm like, A-U or A-U-N? That's one of those. And
• 21:23
Speaker 1: I work as a copywriter, so I should know how
• 21:25
Speaker 1: to spell shit, but that's one that I always have
• 21:27
  Speaker 1: to pause.
• 21:28
Speaker 2: Yeah, you should. I feel like February is always tough. February, yeah. Yeah,
• 21:35
Speaker 2: I even pronounced it wrong. There's that R that sneaks
• 21:37
  Speaker 2: up on me.
• 21:38
  Speaker 1: It's fucking R's, man.
• 21:39
Speaker 2: They'll get you. Fuck the R's.
• 21:42
Speaker 1: This has been so fun getting to sit and chat
• 21:44
Speaker 1: with you. Besides Be Funny, where can people check you
• 21:49
Speaker 1: out if they want to follow your stuff?
• 21:51
Speaker 2: I am constantly in Phoenix and or Chicago. But if
• 21:56
Speaker 2: you can, to stay updated, you're going to go to
• 21:58
Speaker 2: at Johnny Tsunami. That's my Instagram. Or by John Boyd. B-Y-J-O-N-B-O-Y-D.
• 22:04
Speaker 1: And you can check out, he mentioned some of the
• 22:06
Speaker 1: clips are going to be on YouTube. We're very excited
• 22:08
Speaker 1: to see some more of those. Maybe one of mine.
• 22:11
Speaker 1: Hell yeah. John boy. Thank you so much.
• 22:13
Speaker 2: Thank you for having me. Are we doing this?
• 22:15
Speaker 1: Yeah. Love you. Thank you. We'll see you guys next time. Bye.
