- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to KFI AM640, the Bill Handel Show on
- 0:04Speaker 1: demand on the iHeartRadio.
- 0:10Speaker 2: App.
- 0:13Speaker 3: And the big issue is the Strait of Hormuz. Saudi
- 0:15Speaker 3: Arabia was the big one, insisted the Strait of Hormuz
- 0:18Speaker 3: stay open as an international, free international waterway. Iran said, no, no,
- 0:23Speaker 3: we want to make it a tollbooth. And that is
- 0:27Speaker 3: a real crinkle, winkle, winkle, wrinkle. There you go.
- 0:34Speaker 2: I know.
- 0:35Speaker 4: Mr.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Professional Broadcaster, thank you very much.
- 0:38Speaker 4: And now, Handle on the News.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Ladies and gentlemen, here's Bill Handel.
- 0:45Speaker 1: All right.
- 0:45Speaker 2: It's already Tuesday, September 22.
- 0:50Speaker 3: And good morning. That was an interesting commercial. from the
- 0:54Speaker 3: National Association of Funeral Directors. I had not heard that before.
- 0:59Speaker 3: That was a very moving commercial. Did anybody pay attention
- 1:03Speaker 3: to that?
- 1:04Speaker 2: I heard a little bit. Yeah, I was.
- 1:08Speaker 3: I think they're pushing cremation a lot, because I know
- 1:11Speaker 3: that the funeral directors and National Association of Barbecue Restaurants
- 1:18Speaker 3: are joining together to.
- 1:22Speaker 5: You get to pick your smoke. I'm really partial to
- 1:27Speaker 5: the pecan.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:29Speaker 2: But I'll take white post oak. That's fine.
- 1:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:33Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Anyway, welcome back, Neil. Good morning. Good morning. All right.
- 1:38Speaker 2: And Amy, good morning.
- 1:39Speaker 6: Hello, Bill.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I didn't know you cried twice a week.
- 1:43Speaker 6: Oh, my God.
- 1:44Speaker 2: That's what Ann says.
- 1:45Speaker 5: I do.
- 1:46Speaker 2: You're such a softie.
- 1:47Speaker 6: I am. And man, did you hear Irene's story? It
- 1:50Speaker 6: was just awesome. It was so cool. She's one of
- 1:53Speaker 6: the people who is benefiting from the Union Rescue Mission,
- 1:56Speaker 6: which we were going over the edge for. And it
- 1:58Speaker 6: was just like so cool to see her in a
- 2:00Speaker 6: safe place after years of kind of being in denial
- 2:03Speaker 6: that part of this was her making bad choices. And
- 2:06Speaker 6: then finally reaching out, hitting bottom and getting the help
- 2:09Speaker 6: that she needed to get back on her feet. So
- 2:11Speaker 6: it's just cool.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's a good organization. It really is.
- 2:14Speaker 3: And there isn't a lot of fluff and bureaucracy or
- 2:19Speaker 3: any accusation of mismanagement or anything. They're just, I know
- 2:22Speaker 3: they're just good people.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Yep.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Okay.
- 2:25Speaker 2: And, oh, and with the San Diego Padres, whatever that was.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Let's go pot. Yeah, that's interesting. Will Kohlschreiber. Good morning, sir.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Good morning. And then we've got Mario in for Kono today. Hello, hello.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Good morning. Good morning. All right. Everybody's here. Everybody's around.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Oh, Amy, you're talking about you and Neil going over
- 2:48Speaker 3: the hedge. And that.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Is.
- 2:53Speaker 5: Well, a hedge wouldn't be a problem.
- 2:55Speaker 2: I mean, if it's a hedge.
- 2:58Speaker 6: Anna would do it too.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Yeah. And how close are you guys to the level
- 3:05Speaker 2: you want to your goal?
- 3:07Speaker 6: Well, we're getting there, but we're still quite a ways away.
- 3:10Speaker 6: We need your help.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:12Speaker 6: We need your donations.
- 3:14Speaker 2: And what is it this year? The goal?
- 3:16Speaker 6: 30 grand.
- 3:17Speaker 2: 30 grand. That's a lot. Yeah.
- 3:19Speaker 6: Well, it's because we topped our goal last year and
- 3:22Speaker 6: they said, oh, let's raise it.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:24Speaker 5: So I think I think it's and you can correct me, Amy,
- 3:27Speaker 5: if I'm wrong, but I think it's like 87 cents
- 3:30Speaker 5: on the dollar goes straight to servicing and taking care
- 3:34Speaker 5: of these people.
- 3:35Speaker 2: So they run a tight ship.
- 3:37Speaker 6: Yep, they do.
- 3:38Speaker 3: And they don't go and they don't market very much,
- 3:41Speaker 3: because if you look at these charities that market on television,
- 3:44Speaker 3: you know, those those the animals, for example, the SPCA.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Those poor animals that you see through cages that are skinny.
- 3:53Speaker 3: By the way, those are actually rented. You know that
- 3:55Speaker 3: from Animal Air Loops? They're not rented.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Yeah, they are.
- 3:59Speaker 3: I mean, you can rent a forlorn-looking cow or forlorn-looking dog.
- 4:04Speaker 2: You can actually do that. I'll tell you what's big.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Three-legged dogs are really in demand now. Anyway, so those
- 4:12Speaker 3: organizations spend a lot of money on marketing.
- 4:16Speaker 2: They're very tight.
- 4:19Speaker 5: They really care, which sounds stupid, but we hear so
- 4:22Speaker 5: many horror stories about charities. They really care and they
- 4:27Speaker 5: really put it to the test by taking people off
- 4:30Speaker 5: the streets better than our government is doing.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Oh, for sure.
- 4:33Speaker 3: And one of my favorite ones is for kids. And
- 4:37Speaker 3: I have a hard time with kids not eating well.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Those kids are rented too, by the way.
- 4:41Speaker 2: They're all actors. Oh, stop.
- 4:42Speaker 6: Well, and with the people at At Union Rescue Mission,
- 4:46Speaker 6: there's a whole area called Hope Gardens where it's just
- 4:49Speaker 6: for women and children and for elderly people, I think
- 4:52Speaker 6: single too, just to make sure that they are in
- 4:54Speaker 6: a safe place, especially because they've got children.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Hey, don't you find it ironic that when you donate
- 5:01Speaker 3: to one of these kids' organizations, you get a blanket?
- 5:06Speaker 2: Saying, you know, I'm a donor.
- 5:09Speaker 3: And the blankets are made by slave kids in other
- 5:13Speaker 3: countries that now you're helping the kids.
- 5:17Speaker 2: It's very ironic.
- 5:18Speaker 5: I'm pretty sure that's not the way, like the MAGA
- 5:20Speaker 5: hats that are made in China.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Yeah, it's pretty much, yes. All right, guys, I think
- 5:28Speaker 3: we're ready to fly. Oh, and Fran was at SoFi yesterday.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Good game with the.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Yeah, it was awesome. It was a season home opener.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Very good game.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Rams considered, you know, I love to talk sports. I
- 5:43Speaker 3: feel like I'm a sports guy now.
- 5:46Speaker 6: He's all about the sports ball.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I'm all about the sports ball. That's me. Sports words. Yep,
- 5:51Speaker 2: that's me. All right, guys. Get to the paint. We've
- 5:54Speaker 2: got plenty to talk about today. Get that W. It's
- 5:57Speaker 2: a Tuesday morning. It's a Taco Tuesday.
- 6:00Speaker 3: And that means we've got, oh, Mike Duboski coming in
- 6:03Speaker 3: at 8 o'clock. talking about some tech stuff, which is
- 6:07Speaker 3: always fun on Tuesday. Okay, let's do it.
- 6:08Speaker 2: It's time for Handle on the News. Amy, Neil, and me,
- 6:12Speaker 2: lead story. Wait a minute. Our weather is fine.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Nope, it's in anticipation of the El Nino-fueled storms.
- 6:19Speaker 2: I did that story yesterday.
- 6:21Speaker 3: While hurricanes are basically non-existent during this hurricane season, There
- 6:28Speaker 3: is El Nino, which it looks like it's going to
- 6:31Speaker 3: be some serious coastal flooding, high waves that we're going
- 6:36Speaker 3: to see big time. And since those are so dangerous
- 6:40Speaker 3: and so impactful, the governor is saying, OK, we are
- 6:43Speaker 3: going to anticipate them and proactively instead of reactively deal
- 6:49Speaker 3: with these.
- 6:51Speaker 5: Which is, you know, I can't stand when people bitch
- 6:54Speaker 5: about both. It's like the government doesn't do anything and
- 6:57Speaker 5: then the government does things too soon. I'm not a
- 7:00Speaker 5: fan of Governor Handsome, but you can't blame him for
- 7:05Speaker 5: wanting to be on the post on this.
- 7:07Speaker 2: No, you can't. I hear people complain. I'm like, I'd
- 7:11Speaker 2: rather him, you know, be prepared and us not need
- 7:14Speaker 2: it than the reverse.
- 7:16Speaker 6: Peace on Earth, not so much. If asked about the
- 7:20Speaker 6: state of the world ahead of the annual meeting of
- 7:22Speaker 6: the U.N. General Assembly, which is just getting underway, heads
- 7:24Speaker 6: of state and government and ministers alike apparently will describe
- 7:28Speaker 6: a globe in massive turmoil. World leaders will be gathering
- 7:32Speaker 6: at the United Nations in an era of deep uncertainty,
- 7:36Speaker 6: according to U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres. At the same time,
- 7:41Speaker 6: he says power is shifting, the world is changing, and
- 7:44Speaker 6: our institutions must change with it.
- 7:46Speaker 3: At 7.30, I'm going to cover that because there are
- 7:51Speaker 3: going to be speakers from, I think, 170 countries there,
- 7:55Speaker 3: plus a bunch of ministers. This is going to go
- 7:57Speaker 3: on forever, or maybe everybody gets three seconds. Maybe they
- 8:01Speaker 3: get a shout out. Someone stands up and goes, yay, Ghana,
- 8:04Speaker 3: and then sits down. I don't know how.
- 8:07Speaker 2: That's what you think. Yeah. Yeah. That's a lot of
- 8:10Speaker 2: people talking for a very long time. Mayor Bass, please
- 8:16Speaker 2: sit down.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Yeah, and of course, President Trump has a lot to
- 8:19Speaker 3: do with the turmoil that's going on. Whether or not
- 8:22Speaker 3: you agree with the policies, you can't disagree with the
- 8:26Speaker 3: fact that he has influenced the world roiling and its
- 8:32Speaker 3: ability to deal with the world.
- 8:34Speaker 5: Oh, here's a fun story. Oh, this is really interesting.
- 8:38Speaker 5: So we know that there's one thing everyone agrees on.
- 8:42Speaker 5: Trump loves TV. So here's a guy who was on
- 8:46Speaker 5: television before he was ever president and.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Took to it like a fish to water.
- 8:53Speaker 5: Well, with everything going on with the White House press pool,
- 8:59Speaker 5: now you've got Maine, you know, main networks pulling out.
- 9:04Speaker 5: They're saying, hey, you take one or you take none,
- 9:07Speaker 5: and they're pulling out of the press pool. Less cameras
- 9:10Speaker 5: are showing up, less news agencies showing up. And how
- 9:14Speaker 5: is this going to go? Now, of course, president Trump says, uh,
- 9:18Speaker 5: they say they're going to boycott me, uh, but they
- 9:21Speaker 5: never boycott me.
- 9:22Speaker 2: So I wasn't worried about that. Well, they did yesterday.
- 9:26Speaker 5: And he keeps saying, look at all that press, but
- 9:28Speaker 5: this is not a guy who's rooted in reality.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Reality. Yeah. They did yesterday.
- 9:34Speaker 3: If you, uh, of course, you know, the story about, uh,
- 9:37Speaker 3: the white house, Donald Trump, um, uh, imposing a ban
- 9:41Speaker 3: on CNN political, uh, and, uh, who else, uh, one
- 9:47Speaker 3: of the other majors. And the press pool, there's one
- 9:51Speaker 3: on a rotating basis, one of the major networks is
- 9:54Speaker 3: in the White House briefing room or whenever the president
- 9:58Speaker 3: is there. And then that is shared with the other networks,
- 10:03Speaker 3: that video. Well, since he threw out three of them.
- 10:06Speaker 3: They all said, we're not part of it. So there
- 10:09Speaker 3: was a press conference yesterday. The majors weren't there. They
- 10:14Speaker 3: didn't cover what was happening at the helipad. This is
- 10:17Speaker 3: the greatest helipad from the greatest president who ever was.
- 10:20Speaker 3: And J.D.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Vance.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Now, this is Fox now. Fox News cut off J.D.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Vance halfway through his speech, went somewhere else.
- 10:32Speaker 2: What was the speech about? Oh, I don't know.
- 10:33Speaker 3: Your normal pablum about how the administration is doing wonderful things.
- 10:37Speaker 2: And, you know, they had the same crap you always hear.
- 10:40Speaker 3: But I think that the president really, really misstepped on
- 10:43Speaker 3: this one. And, of course, lawsuits being filed like crazy.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Immediately the lawsuits were filed. interference with First Amendment rights,
- 10:52Speaker 3: unconstitutional activity by the president. I mean, the president's going
- 10:56Speaker 3: to lose on this one.
- 10:56Speaker 2: There's no question.
- 10:57Speaker 5: These are things you just can't support. I don't care
- 11:00Speaker 5: who you are. Well, no, that's not true that we can't.
- 11:03Speaker 3: But remember, MAGA followers, if the president were to say,
- 11:08Speaker 3: I'm going to make it illegal to to be employed
- 11:12Speaker 3: by CNN and it's prison time.
- 11:15Speaker 2: You know how many followers would say, that's right, that's right,
- 11:19Speaker 2: because you're attacking the president? Now, too many.
- 11:23Speaker 5: You're going to get a Democrat in office and if
- 11:27Speaker 5: you're paving the way for them to do the same thing,
- 11:31Speaker 5: you're an idiot.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Nobody else would do this and nobody else would do
- 11:33Speaker 2: the same thing. Because you've got to set the playing field. Now,
- 11:37Speaker 2: you're going to go. Our guy's going to do it. No,
- 11:39Speaker 2: you can't because it's wrong. It's so out there. It
- 11:42Speaker 2: is so out there. I don't think so. You may
- 11:44Speaker 2: be right, but I don't think so. Let's take a break.
- 11:47Speaker 2: We'll be back. More handle on the news coming up.
- 11:51Speaker 4: You're listening to Bill Handel on demand from KFI AM 640.
- 11:55Speaker 5: Oh, this is a sad story. Two helicopter pilots died.
- 12:02Speaker 5: while fighting a fire in Yosemite National Park just Sunday afternoon.
- 12:07Speaker 5: So the pilots were conducting water drops over the dome fire.
- 12:12Speaker 5: It burned more than 3,000 acres at the time. It
- 12:17Speaker 5: was ignited last week. And then the helicopter crashed around
- 12:20Speaker 5: 3 p.m. And this was the FAA that came out.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Trying to figure out what it is. I have a
- 12:26Speaker 3: question about the FAA and the NTSB particularly. And that
- 12:31Speaker 3: is whenever there's a crash, either even a train crash,
- 12:36Speaker 3: but airline crashes for the most part, they immediately put
- 12:40Speaker 3: the NTSB team on it or a NTSB team on it, which,
- 12:46Speaker 3: of course, we all rely on. And that's the appropriate
- 12:48Speaker 3: thing to do. How many teams are there? Because it's
- 12:52Speaker 3: crash after crash after crash. And they go, the NTSB
- 12:56Speaker 3: is now investigating it. And investigating it, they send people
- 13:00Speaker 3: out to the crash site. There must be thousands of
- 13:02Speaker 3: people that work for the NTSB.
- 13:04Speaker 2: How many plane crashes do you think take place? Hundreds.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Hundreds a year. Hundreds a year because they're also talking
- 13:12Speaker 3: small planes. We're not just talking about major plane crashes,
- 13:15Speaker 3: you know, the airlines, small planes going down.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 13:19Speaker 3: The NTSB is out there investigating. I was just curious
- 13:22Speaker 3: because there's so many of them. And the NTSB obviously
- 13:26Speaker 3: is a much, much needed organization. OK, just thought I'd
- 13:28Speaker 3: throw that out.
- 13:29Speaker 6: But says no butts were grabbed. Mayor James Butts held
- 13:34Speaker 6: a news conference yesterday speaking publicly for the first time.
- 13:38Speaker 6: against claims that he inappropriately touched a high school student
- 13:42Speaker 6: while posing for a group photo. He says the attacks
- 13:45Speaker 6: against him are driven by local activists and also tied
- 13:48Speaker 6: to a larger political battle between the city and operators
- 13:52Speaker 6: of its large entertainment venues. He also accused his rivals
- 13:57Speaker 6: of mounting a libelous and racist smear campaign.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Of course.
- 14:01Speaker 6: Depicting him as a black man unable to control his impulses.
- 14:05Speaker 6: So the whole hullabaloo is there's this group photo where
- 14:08Speaker 6: some cheerleaders said, hey, Mayor Butts, come take a picture
- 14:11Speaker 6: with us. And then somebody says that he groped one
- 14:15Speaker 6: of the cheerleaders.
- 14:16Speaker 4: Right.
- 14:16Speaker 3: And now there's a huge, just a huge brouhaha that's roiling.
- 14:22Speaker 3: It can't just be a politician accused of... grabbing someone's butt.
- 14:27Speaker 3: And there's the investigation. No, it's because he's black, it
- 14:30Speaker 3: is racist, and there's all kinds of political overtones.
- 14:33Speaker 2: It has to be that way.
- 14:33Speaker 5: No, but the bigger the accusation, the more evidence you're
- 14:36Speaker 5: going to have to have, because otherwise you're going to
- 14:39Speaker 5: be taken down politician after politician.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Right, and that seems to be the case. This is one,
- 14:43Speaker 2: it seems to be the case.
- 14:45Speaker 3: This isn't Bill Cosby or Harvey Weinstein when there are
- 14:49Speaker 3: dozens and dozens. This is one gal who said she
- 14:53Speaker 3: was uncomfortable And that is it. Also, notice, don't you
- 14:57Speaker 3: find it ironic, as Amy, you pointed out, that Mayor
- 15:01Speaker 3: Butts is accused of fondling the butt of someone. I
- 15:07Speaker 3: got grief from a woman on Handle on the Law.
- 15:10Speaker 3: a few years ago saying, well, handle on the law.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Handle?
- 15:14Speaker 3: Whoa, isn't that a little sexist? How dare you use that?
- 15:18Speaker 3: I said, lady, what would you do if my name
- 15:20Speaker 3: was Fondle?
- 15:22Speaker 2: Then what? Handle on the law?
- 15:24Speaker 5: What about this show used to be called Handle Yourself
- 15:28Speaker 5: in the Morning?
- 15:29Speaker 2: That's true.
- 15:30Speaker 6: I'm glad we changed that.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Oh, you know what? That's true. You know what? You're right.
- 15:35Speaker 2: That was a story as opposed to fondle yourself in
- 15:37Speaker 2: the morning. That was it. Which, by the way, as
- 15:40Speaker 2: I pointed out to her, that's a regular part of
- 15:42Speaker 2: our show.
- 15:43Speaker 3: That's why we work from, we only see each other
- 15:47Speaker 3: from the desktop up.
- 15:49Speaker 2: We don't see anybody from the down.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Although I do rock back and forth occasionally and you
- 15:54Speaker 3: want to know what the hell's going on.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Okay, let's continue on.
- 15:58Speaker 4: All right.
- 15:59Speaker 5: California sues a Christian group who says they can reverse
- 16:05Speaker 5: the abortion pill.
- 16:06Speaker 2: So if you remember, you remember when they used to have.
- 16:09Speaker 5: The groups, the Christian groups that would pray over you
- 16:12Speaker 5: if you were gay and like un-gay you? Well, this
- 16:15Speaker 5: is in that similar ilk where they say they. have
- 16:20Speaker 5: this abortion pill reversal. And Rob Bonta is going after them, saying,
- 16:27Speaker 5: you know, the state is seeking $ 20 million in penalties
- 16:30Speaker 5: under California's false advertising and unfair competition laws. And they're
- 16:33Speaker 5: saying that there's no way to reverse a medication abortion
- 16:37Speaker 5: and that the treatment touted by this group is unproven
- 16:40Speaker 5: and potentially dangerous.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Now, here's a couple of interesting sidebar stories about this.
- 16:46Speaker 3: They are arguing, these groups are arguing, there's a legal
- 16:51Speaker 3: concept here. No one is actually being damaged by this.
- 16:54Speaker 3: You take a pill, it does nothing, and you believe
- 16:56Speaker 3: it's going to do something. You're not suffering from some
- 17:00Speaker 3: kind of a malady in which there is some medical
- 17:05Speaker 3: procedure advice being given.
- 17:06Speaker 2: But would it have to be a supplement or something?
- 17:09Speaker 2: How would they get around it? Well, that's basically what
- 17:11Speaker 2: it is.
- 17:11Speaker 3: And the other thing is arguing basically fraud, duress, unfair
- 17:18Speaker 3: business practices.
- 17:18Speaker 2: They say, we give it out for free. We give
- 17:21Speaker 2: it out for free. So how are we benefiting if
- 17:24Speaker 2: you're talking about fraudulent advertising? We're not. We want a
- 17:27Speaker 2: First Amendment. We think this works. We tell people this works.
- 17:30Speaker 2: You want it for free. Go for it. And they're
- 17:32Speaker 2: saying that's First Amendment. It's going to be an interesting case.
- 17:35Speaker 2: You'd have to have somebody that would argue.
- 17:38Speaker 3: I would have had an abortion, but I was told
- 17:42Speaker 3: that I could take this pill and that would, in fact,
- 17:47Speaker 3: reverse the abortion.
- 17:50Speaker 4: Right.
- 17:50Speaker 2: That would reverse the medication abortion.
- 17:54Speaker 3: The the morning after pill. You take the morning after pill,
- 17:58Speaker 3: which causes an abortion, a non-surgical abortion. And if you
- 18:03Speaker 3: take this after that, that reverses it. So it's an
- 18:07Speaker 3: interesting legal argument. We'll continue on with more interesting stories.
- 18:11Speaker 4: You're listening to Bill Handel on demand from KFI AM 640. Wow.
- 18:18Speaker 2: October is almost upon us. And the go to the stores.
- 18:23Speaker 3: I go to Costco. I went a couple of days ago.
- 18:25Speaker 3: It's it's full board Halloween. I mean, they're not even pretending.
- 18:29Speaker 3: And then they have those massive, huge characters that talk
- 18:35Speaker 3: and move around.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Those are called people, Bill. You need to get out more. Yeah, exactly.
- 18:41Speaker 3: I mean, like 15 footers that move audio animatronic, which
- 18:47Speaker 3: I'm assuming when they first came out were thousands of dollars.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Neil, and you put those together. All the time, don't you? Yeah,
- 18:54Speaker 2: Anne does as well.
- 18:55Speaker 5: Anne does a spectacular set up at her house.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Anne, I think I heard. And do you do those?
- 19:04Speaker 2: I don't build anything close to what Neil does. No, no,
- 19:07Speaker 2: I understand.
- 19:07Speaker 3: No, I get it. Nobody does what Neil does. I mean,
- 19:10Speaker 3: he's science fiction. But do you do those characters that
- 19:13Speaker 3: move around?
- 19:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:14Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 19:14Speaker 2: I love it.
- 19:15Speaker 6: What do you have?
- 19:16Speaker 2: I don't know. Just goblins and ghosts. Oh, you know what?
- 19:19Speaker 2: I have two little creepy girls holding teddy bears. Gosh,
- 19:23Speaker 2: I hope they're not listening.
- 19:24Speaker 6: Looking for their mommies.
- 19:26Speaker 2: And it's awesome. You know what I would do? Yeah,
- 19:28Speaker 2: the kids are creepy. The kids are so creepy.
- 19:31Speaker 3: When are they going to have one of these mannequins,
- 19:34Speaker 3: these moving mannequins of Jeffrey Dahmer with an arm sticking
- 19:38Speaker 3: out of his mouth?
- 19:39Speaker 2: I think that would be terrific. Do you remember- Bill,
- 19:43Speaker 2: it was decades ago. We were at the old station.
- 19:46Speaker 5: It was during the time just after the OJ trial,
- 19:48Speaker 5: I think, and there was a haunted house down in
- 19:52Speaker 5: west covina or something where every floor was a different
- 19:57Speaker 5: real true crime scene and they had and the guy
- 20:02Speaker 5: playing oj was was a little person so he'd come
- 20:06Speaker 5: out of one of the he and they had the
- 20:08Speaker 5: full scene the front the the the gate and everything
- 20:12Speaker 5: it was creepy and i and i was sent out
- 20:15Speaker 5: there for the station i think maybe for john and
- 20:17Speaker 5: ken or something and went through them and they had
- 20:20Speaker 5: the um I think it was the LaBianca murders and
- 20:24Speaker 5: the Sharon.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Tate and all this stuff. It was it was really horrific.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Haunted houses are become such a huge deal. Every major
- 20:32Speaker 3: theme park. OK, moving on with more handle on the news.
- 20:37Speaker 6: Amy, we got the not so friendly skies. Hundreds of
- 20:40Speaker 6: flights were canceled. Thousands were delayed. At last count, it
- 20:43Speaker 6: was like 7000 affected flights because of damaged communication lines.
- 20:49Speaker 6: At an air traffic control facility in Philadelphia, they had
- 20:52Speaker 6: to do a ground stoppage. Six major airports in the
- 20:56Speaker 6: Northeast were affected. And of course, that in turn affects
- 21:00Speaker 6: flights all over the country. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said
- 21:05Speaker 6: that it will take some time to clear all the
- 21:07Speaker 6: existing delays despite the repairs. So it's been repaired.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it took about 13 hours to bring it back
- 21:15Speaker 3: to normal because it's a domino effect.
- 21:17Speaker 2: What happened here.
- 21:19Speaker 3: is that the primary connections, the primary communications connection between
- 21:24Speaker 3: air traffic controllers and ground controllers and planes in the
- 21:29Speaker 3: air failed.
- 21:30Speaker 2: So they have a backup system of, I think it's
- 21:35Speaker 2: fiber optics, a backup system.
- 21:37Speaker 3: And a construction crew cut those in half, cut those
- 21:41Speaker 3: dealing with some kind of remodel or some kind of
- 21:44Speaker 3: construction on the roads.
- 21:45Speaker 2: So it was a double hit. Congratulations. Big mazel tov
- 21:48Speaker 2: for you.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Okay.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Animals.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Animals.
- 21:51Speaker 5: You know, Handel and I, during the break, we're talking
- 21:55Speaker 5: about his trip to your safari coming up. And, you know,
- 21:59Speaker 5: when you think about that, the king, the one thing
- 22:01Speaker 5: you really want to see is lions. And then this story,
- 22:04Speaker 5: 10 lions found dead and they suspect poisoning. This is
- 22:10Speaker 5: in Tanzania is the UNESCO listed conservation area.
- 22:15Speaker 6: It's the Ngorongoro.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Ngorongoro?
- 22:17Speaker 6: Ngorongoro.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I've been there. It's a crater, isn't it? It's
- 22:22Speaker 2: a huge crater.
- 22:23Speaker 6: It's a huge crater where they have a population of
- 22:26Speaker 6: lions that's not found anywhere else where they live together.
- 22:30Speaker 6: Because normally like a pride is just the male and
- 22:33Speaker 6: then some younger males and the females. But this one,
- 22:36Speaker 6: because of their isolation, they all kind of live and
- 22:38Speaker 6: work together. It's really fascinating. And tragic that this happened.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Yeah, because they're saying they ingested poison or something.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Yeah, and they don't know if it was purposeful and
- 22:47Speaker 3: they don't know at this point. But 10 were found
- 22:51Speaker 3: in Gorogora. A couple of things that I want to
- 22:55Speaker 3: point out before we take a break. Thing number one, Amy,
- 22:58Speaker 3: did you notice the lions, the male lions? their balls
- 23:02Speaker 3: are as big as basketballs. Very, very impressive.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Wow.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Okay. There's that coming. Yeah.
- 23:09Speaker 3: Okay.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Just mention it.
- 23:10Speaker 3: And also, you know, Lindsay and I are starting a
- 23:15Speaker 3: travel podcast just for fun. Because we travel and we're
- 23:19Speaker 3: nuts and it's just fun stuff. And so we're putting
- 23:24Speaker 3: a podcast up because everybody puts a podcast up.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Tell them the name of the podcast. It's Excessive Baggage.
- 23:29Speaker 2: I love it.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Is the name of the podcast. And it's going up.
- 23:34Speaker 3: I think we already have something in. I just got
- 23:37Speaker 3: my satellite dish, the Starlink, yesterday. And we're going to
- 23:41Speaker 3: put everything up. And it's... It's going to be kind
- 23:46Speaker 3: of interesting. It's up on Instagram as well, under the
- 23:49Speaker 3: same name.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Do we have anything up there now? Yeah, I think
- 23:53Speaker 2: we do.
- 23:54Speaker 6: Yeah, I saw you guys packing the other day.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Yeah, excessivebaggage.com.
- 24:00Speaker 3: And or at Excessive Baggage on Instagram.
- 24:02Speaker 2: And it's just going to be great fun.
- 24:05Speaker 3: We're going to talk about the age difference. How does
- 24:07Speaker 3: an old man travel with a younger woman? And, you know,
- 24:11Speaker 3: she's in a wheelchair part of the time because she
- 24:14Speaker 3: can walk, but she can't walk long distances. So we
- 24:17Speaker 3: deal with staff and it's me screaming at staff and
- 24:21Speaker 3: yelling and even pointing out a lion's balls, which are enormous.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Talk about your excessive baggage. Yes. I mean, very impressive.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Did you notice that, Amy? Did you ever look at
- 24:34Speaker 2: the gonads of lions?
- 24:35Speaker 6: Well, they're there.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Well, yeah.
- 24:36Speaker 2: No, they're huge.
- 24:38Speaker 6: You know who else really likes to show off their junk?
- 24:41Speaker 6: It's the baboons.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Baboons are very strong.
- 24:45Speaker 6: They're really exhibitionists.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Yeah, they are.
- 24:47Speaker 2: They do a lot of masturbating, a lot of masturbating
- 24:50Speaker 2: in public. I didn't see that.
- 24:51Speaker 6: There was just a lot of leg spreading.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Yeah, Will, let's go to you for a moment in
- 24:55Speaker 2: talking about that. Really? Yeah, let's take a break, okay?
- 24:58Speaker 2: We'll be back.
- 25:00Speaker 4: You're listening to Bill Handel On Demand from KFI AM640.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Let's finish up Handel on the News with Neil, Amy,
- 25:11Speaker 2: and me.
- 25:12Speaker 6: Falling Out with the King, a new book, has been
- 25:15Speaker 6: published by the brother of the late Princess Diana, and
- 25:19Speaker 6: it's making waves with its allegations about Diana's ex-husband, who
- 25:24Speaker 6: just now happens to be King Charles III. In Swan Song, Diana,
- 25:29Speaker 6: My Sister, Charles Spencer says, claims that he argued with
- 25:33Speaker 6: then Prince Charles over palace plans for Prince William and
- 25:37Speaker 6: Prince Harry to walk behind their mother's coffin during her
- 25:40Speaker 6: funeral procession back in 1997. Remember that? So memorable and iconic.
- 25:46Speaker 6: Spencer says he told Charles that Diana, who was killed
- 25:49Speaker 6: in the car crash, would not have wanted her boys
- 25:52Speaker 6: to undergo that ordeal. He claims the prince went ballistic
- 25:57Speaker 6: during that argument and told him, rest assured, we'll forget
- 26:00Speaker 6: her soon enough. He also accuses Charles of having contempt
- 26:05Speaker 6: for Diana and sounding elated after her death.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Yeah, interesting that he decided to do this almost 30
- 26:11Speaker 3: years after the event. Yeah, how about that? And of course,
- 26:16Speaker 3: it's nothing to do with pitching his book. And by
- 26:19Speaker 3: the way, I believe that Charles had contempt for Diana
- 26:23Speaker 3: because Charles, very well educated, Charles, very serious.
- 26:27Speaker 2: And Diana was a free spirit.
- 26:30Speaker 3: Loved dancing, had no education to speak of, but that
- 26:35Speaker 3: wasn't her wheelhouse. And I think he was insanely jealous
- 26:40Speaker 3: of her because she got all of the attention where
- 26:43Speaker 3: normally the Prince of Wales would get the attention.
- 26:46Speaker 6: So it's... Well, plus he was in love with somebody
- 26:49Speaker 6: else his whole life.
- 26:50Speaker 3: Yeah. For every minute he was in love with Camilla.
- 26:54Speaker 3: Every single minute. And he ended up.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Interesting choice. Yeah, it is. It's an interesting choice.
- 27:01Speaker 3: Well, Diana was an interesting and bad choice, and Charles
- 27:06Speaker 3: was basically pushed into that marriage. At that time, you
- 27:11Speaker 3: couldn't divorce a woman who had been married already. And
- 27:15Speaker 3: she was married for a period of time and then
- 27:17Speaker 3: divorced her husband to go with Charles.
- 27:19Speaker 2: So who picked her? I don't understand. How'd she come
- 27:21Speaker 2: into the picture?
- 27:21Speaker 3: I think the family pushed, you got to find a
- 27:23Speaker 3: virgin for one thing. And you have to find, that
- 27:27Speaker 3: was basically it. Someone who was appropriate, someone who was
- 27:29Speaker 3: a virgin. And she came from one of the most
- 27:33Speaker 3: well-known families out there, the Spencer family. And it was
- 27:38Speaker 3: a bad choice. Because this is Charles being pushed around
- 27:41Speaker 3: by his dad forever.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Forever.
- 27:44Speaker 6: Did you say Princess Diana was married before?
- 27:46Speaker 2: No. Camilla was married before.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Oh, Camilla.
- 27:48Speaker 6: Okay.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Yeah. That was confusing for a second. It took me
- 27:51Speaker 2: a minute to follow along.
- 27:52Speaker 4: All right.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Now I got you.
- 27:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Okay. Oh, here's a story. Okay. So another animal story.
- 28:00Speaker 6: Why did Anne give you all the nasty animal stories today?
- 28:04Speaker 2: This is so sad. I know, but I got to– yeah. Yeah,
- 28:08Speaker 2: I know. People need to know.
- 28:09Speaker 5: Authorities found more than 500 dead and living cats during
- 28:14Speaker 5: an animal cruelty investigation at the– Fur, F-U-R-G-E-T, Forget Me Not,
- 28:21Speaker 5: Cat Rescue in Pomona on Monday. So the Inland Valley
- 28:26Speaker 5: Humane Society and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to
- 28:30Speaker 5: Animals came together and partnered with this, with the Upland
- 28:34Speaker 5: Animal Control. And they served search warrants, basically, and went
- 28:38Speaker 5: into the nonprofits facilities in L.A.
- 28:40Speaker 2: County.
- 28:41Speaker 5: And the search was performed following allegations that cats at
- 28:44Speaker 5: the rescue were kept in inhumane conditions. And if you
- 28:48Speaker 5: got a bunch of them dead, you can't get any
- 28:49Speaker 5: worse than that. And so during these searches, these investigators
- 28:53Speaker 5: discovered more than 500 living and deceased cats.
- 28:57Speaker 2: And nine dogs. Too many of these stories, too many.
- 29:02Speaker 2: And it's, yeah.
- 29:04Speaker 5: The cats were found in a freezer in the garage.
- 29:08Speaker 5: More dead cats were found buried in the backyard.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Usually I'd make some kind of a humorous comment here.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Please don't. Yeah, I know.
- 29:16Speaker 3: First of all, I can't think of one. So give
- 29:18Speaker 3: me some time. We'll take a break and then I'll
- 29:22Speaker 3: figure something out.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Maybe around 9.05 you can come up with something on
- 29:25Speaker 2: your own time. Yeah, maybe.
- 29:26Speaker 3: Maybe.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Why don't we finish it up, okay? We are done.
- 29:30Speaker 3: And so something that we talked about before. Governor Newsom
- 29:33Speaker 3: is declaring a statewide emergency when there is no emergency. Well,
- 29:39Speaker 3: at least not yet. And we'll deal with that coming
- 29:41Speaker 3: right up. This is KFI AM 640.
- 29:45Speaker 1: You've been listening to The Bill Handel Show. Catch my
- 29:48Speaker 1: show Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and
- 29:51Speaker 1: anytime on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
