Fifty years ago, a fourth-grade class in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, stitched history into fabric—creating a bicentennial quilt that’s now making a triumphant return to the public. Inspired by American icons like Independence Hall and Uncle Sam, students and volunteers sewed 22 historical scenes into a vibrant masterpiece. Auctioned to fund a field trip, the quilt was later gifted back to its teacher, Gwen McGrath, who preserved it for decades.
