- 0:21SPEAKER_01: Imagine me that's coming.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: Thank you for having me.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: It's nice to be in the room with my my most prolific bully in the industry.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: I'm glad I'm glad you consider me industry.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well yeah, you are.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: I've seen you around comedy, I don't see you in any other spaces.
- 0:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's true.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, it's it's just why I'm so far away from you.
- 0:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 0:54SPEAKER_03: I've just looked and realized like for some reason today, like he is further away than any other guest I've had, and I don't understand what's happened to that.
- 1:02SPEAKER_03: I mean, some people might call it racist.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: Like this, you might be like, oh, maybe he smells.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: But Yanis is um, I don't know if you know you know, he's a very nice guy, but for some reason he's chosen me as the target of most of his bullying, and he bullies me a lot.
- 1:16SPEAKER_03: You're the you are the only person I do this to, and I don't know.
- 1:19SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 1:20SPEAKER_03: I don't know where it started.
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: Well, yeah, I don't know why.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: It's just you tell me I'm shit all the time.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: I don't tell you you're shit.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: Well, it was close enough.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, so Yanis bullies me.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: So it's nice.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: I guess it's nice to be here with you, but I'm not really with you because I feel like there's a whole ocean between us.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: But thanks for having me.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: Someone say the Indian Ocean.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: There we go.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: You see what I mean?
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: This is the this is the real Yannis.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: Whatever he's been doing on the podcast, oh my god, yeah, it's such a sweet guy.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: You know so much about film.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: He's an absolute wanker to me.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:52SPEAKER_03: Oh, I I should also say, I also used to produce I Chan's podcast.
- 1:57SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 1:57SPEAKER_03: Back back like what how long ago?
- 1:59SPEAKER_03: Is it?
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: It's nearly two years ago now.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, that was which is crazy, isn't it?
- 2:03SPEAKER_03: Crazy.
- 2:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, two years ago, that was too old-fashioned.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: And then I I I left to start a job at this place, and then and then like two episodes later, they stopped.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we stopped.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: There was no Yanna, because basically on the pod, I wasn't getting bullied by Yannis.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: And then that made the pod not work as well.
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: So I don't think I was even I I think I had like one line every episode.
- 2:26SPEAKER_03: And it was usually directed at me.
- 2:28SPEAKER_03: Probably.
- 2:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:31SPEAKER_03: Or like, or like looking at Preet going, what are you talking about?
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: What you're talking about, yeah, yeah, you there's a lot of that usually.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: But like this is meant to be funny.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: We're trying to have a nice time.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: Sorry, Preet.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: Well, you still do stuff with Preet all the time.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: We we host Settlers sessions on a monthly, yeah, and we're looking to expand that offer a bit more.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: Um, there's a at the moment, there's a bit of uh a war going on in comedy because Andrew and Bemi think that they are the first to have done it.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Uh, which is the two two hosting.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: In the same location.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: In the same location, but we just didn't film it.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: And we didn't promote it in the same way that they did.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: And also I've got a bee in my bonnet about people not thinking two brown guys are as cool as two black guys.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: I think there's a there's a thing there.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: There's definitely something there.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: I think there's something there.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: I love Andrew and Ben, we just have to.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're great.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: They're very funny people.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: I love them, they're funny people, but I just feel like we Pri and I don't get the love we deserve because we're brown.
- 3:25SPEAKER_03: But you do still like sell out your shows as well.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:28SPEAKER_03: Very quickly.
- 3:28SPEAKER_03: Very quickly.
- 3:29SPEAKER_03: So I wouldn't, yeah.
- 3:30SPEAKER_03: And it's like also the same, like it's both a top secret.
- 3:33SPEAKER_03: Both at top secret, which is like uh ideal occasion.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: But uh we're in they're in Kingsway, which is slightly bigger than the room that we're in.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: We're in uh Drew Lane upstairs.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: Uh okay.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: One day.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: We'll take it.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Try it.
- 3:45SPEAKER_03: Try it.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: I'll do it.
- 3:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 3:47SPEAKER_03: What else are you up to?
- 3:49SPEAKER_03: You you just got back from a holiday, you said.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just got back from holiday, went to Portugal.
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: Uh with uh s eight other comics.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: Uh and on paper, that sounds like it's gonna be really mad, especially some of the personalities we had on there, like Elliot Steele, Dan Nightingale, Jamie Hutchinson.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: Um but it was such a pleasant holiday.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: Like it was so nice.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: We just everything was balanced, the amount of alcohol we had was very balanced.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Um I I won't say if any other substances were consumed.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: Um we ate pretty well, we had lots of laughs, lots of fun.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: Um of course it got eight of these comics at some funny moments.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: Uh it was only after because I was staying in a hotel by myself.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: Oh about a 10-minute walk from the hotel that the bulk of the group was staying in.
- 4:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: And you're gonna love this, Yanis.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: It was after I got back that I realised I'd actually booked that hotel.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: I'd I'd booked two hotels.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: You booked how how?
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: So the hotel they were staying in, I'd reserved it because it was paid at the property.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: And for some reason, I'd completely forgotten.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: And then when I went to look at hotel prices again, it was so high.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: I was like, well, I can't stay there.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: It's ridiculous.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: Because also I've got a thing about staying in really expensive hotels on holiday, which is I don't want to spend too much time in the hotel room.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: As long as it's clean.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you want to be out.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then you want to use it for a bed.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: That's all I want, really.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: And you also I don't do breakf hotel breakfast when I'm abroad.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: No.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: Because I think that's a waste of money.
- 5:27SPEAKER_03: That is a waste of money.
- 5:27SPEAKER_03: I completely agree with you then.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: Oh, thank you.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: I completely agree with that.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Finally, someone gets it.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: I'm not, why?
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: If I'm in another country, I want to savour the food from the local community.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: I don't want to eat at the hotel.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: They're gonna give me frozen croissants.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Um, thank you, Yanis.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: Finally, we agree on something.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: Um, so I found this hotel, which is a five, ten-minute walk away, and I was like, you know what?
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: It's so much cheaper.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: It was three quarters of the price without breakfast.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: And I got back, and then Booking.com go, do you want to review your stay at this hotel?
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: I was like, I didn't stay there.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: And then I looked through my emails and I'm like, oh, I've I've reserved it.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: So now there's a waiting game because I don't know if they're gonna take money out of my account.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: But what I've done is is I've deleted all my payment methods of Booking.com.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: Because I don't know, there might be a war going on now, but yeah.
- 6:13SPEAKER_03: Did you put it through with a credit card?
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: I would have reserved it with a credit card.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: Because then you feel like you can dispute it anyway, because you're like, well, I didn't stay there.
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: I didn't check in, but they would have said I would have had to cancel it.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: But then I can say, look, I booked another hotel.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: That is where I stayed.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: So on principle, I shouldn't.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: It's so fucking stupid.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: It was honestly, and a lot of stupid stuff happened on the holiday.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: And somehow I managed to win.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you come back to the thing that happened on the holiday.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: So yeah, but other than that, it was only you.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: Only you.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: Thing is, I'm so organised usually.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: Like I'm I'm so good at shit like that.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: I don't know how that happened.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: Also, I think I think what happened was when I booked it at the time.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: Between the time I booked it and now, I started boycotting booking.com.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: Because I was like, you know, some of the things they fund or the line, you know, I'm not so keen on that.
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: So that's why I kind of deleted their emails coming into my mailbox.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: I put it as junk.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: Hence I didn't see.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: Well, there you go.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: Learn something new every day.
- 7:23SPEAKER_03: So there is a reason.
- 7:24SPEAKER_03: There is a reason, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:26SPEAKER_03: Well, fair enough, but yeah, like I oh god, if you have to pay full price on that.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: Because the full price on that would be£675.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: Plus the hotel I stayed in.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: I think it would be a grand on hotels.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: And I only stayed in one of them.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: And it was the worst one.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was the worst one.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: It yeah, it was so many things were broken in that room.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: But the bed was fine.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: It was a single bed.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: It was a single bed as well.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: It was two singles.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: Did you put them together?
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: No.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: I couldn't be bothered to move the table.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: So I slept on a single for four days in Portugal.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: Oh god, I hate myself so much.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:11SPEAKER_03: But it was a good holiday.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:13SPEAKER_03: Well, what did can you say anything that you did there?
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: Or is it like a little bit of a few years?
- 8:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean I had some grilled sardines.
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: I can't imagine the your group.
- 8:23SPEAKER_03: That group that went, having like sitting there having grilled sardines.
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: No, it was just me that had grilled grilled sardines.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: On the f yeah, we we went for like barbecue, went for good food.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: Uh we uh on the first night we went to the old town in Alba Fera, which is where all the young people are.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: And that was fucking horrific.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: It was just like these 17-year-olds on their first holiday.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: It was so loud, and it was, I was like, we were all looking at each other going, we're not.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: No, no.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: This isn't for us at all.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: Some of us have got kids.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: Like, we don't want any of this.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: So we were a bit wound up about that.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: We watched football a couple of times.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: I've also been boycotting the football.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: I saw that today.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: Or yesterday.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: Whenever you publish it.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: I've been uh boycotting the World Cup.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: But obviously England were playing Panama, and the whole group wanted to watch it.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: They're good.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: So I joined them, you know, booing every time England touched the ball, much to everyone's annoyance.
- 9:16SPEAKER_03: Are you just booing England?
- 9:17SPEAKER_03: Are you boycotting it because of England?
- 9:18SPEAKER_03: I'm boycotting it because of America.
- 9:20SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay, yeah.
- 9:21SPEAKER_03: Well, that's fair.
- 9:21SPEAKER_03: That's the main thing.
- 9:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well, that's a realistic, yeah.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: Um but that's a fair reason.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and also it's my first World Cup where I've not really thrown myself into it.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: Um, but you know, and as you know, Yanis, you know, me boycotting the World Cup has made a huge, yeah, huge dent.
- 9:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, now no one's watching it.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: No one's watching people like if we no Isha no party.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely, no Ishan, no party.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: Um but but I think it's my because I'm boycotting it that um Morocco and Parag um Paraguay won.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: That's what I think has happened.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: They they got a pep in their step.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: Um towards football, we had some good food, we had loads and loads of laughs.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:01SPEAKER_03: Just Elliot still got bit by a German.
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: I saw him post that, and I was gonna listen to the episode, his podcast episode today about that, but I haven't listened to it yet.
- 10:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he got bit by a German.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: I I I I guess we'll find out.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: You'll find out.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it was a really lovely holiday, and we all kept saying every single day, not a single day went by where one of us didn't say, This is surprising how pleasant this is.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: Like none of us have been hungover.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: There were no hangovers.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: Isn't that crazy?
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: That is crazy.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I'll I'm fucking knocking back.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:35unknown: Yeah.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've seen you drink.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: So I'm, you know, feeling very chill.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: I've felt like I've actually had a proper holiday.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: That's good.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: I feel relaxed.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: That's great.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: Thank you, brother.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: You're so surprised.
- 10:47SPEAKER_03: I am really surprised.
- 10:48SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm I'm mostly surprised at how like how like nobody had a hangover, nobody got wild.
- 10:54SPEAKER_03: No, that's that's I can't even imagine it.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: But we had fun.
- 10:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 10:58SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 10:59SPEAKER_03: We drank a fair bit and whatever, but it wasn't You didn't go insane.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: We didn't go mad.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:04unknown: Wow.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: I think the latest I went to bed was probably like two.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: That's great enough.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: You actually don't know where to go.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: I don't, because it's like it's it's it's too nice.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: Yannis is like, is Ishan maturing into his age?
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: For the first time.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: Well it's not just you, it's like all of them.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: All of them, yeah.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: He's like, I know Elliot.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: And like he won't mind me saying, I know.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Elliot when he I met him at Gatwick Airport, and uh he was like, Oh man, I really don't want to go on this holiday.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: I said, Well, he goes, Oh, I've just been traveling over to Croatia and all this.
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: I've really been hammering it.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: I'm like, and we were just having Nando's and chatting.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: And then after we had Nando's, he was like, I really hope the rest of the holidays are like this, I really don't want it.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: I'm so scared of how much it's gonna get ham we're gonna get hammered too much.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: He was just moaning.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: By the end of it, he was like, that was fucking amazing.
- 12:04SPEAKER_03: Um it's really funny because like on his podcast, him and Jamali are trying to talk about going to Benedome.
- 12:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, okay.
- 12:15SPEAKER_03: That's the that's the difference.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: That's the difference.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: I think you do that once though with Elliot.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Elliot's like 29, yeah.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: So he's had like a bit of a break of a holiday and had fun on the holiday, but obviously the 29-year-old in him wants to go for a big one.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: I low-key want a big one too.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: At some point.
- 12:33SPEAKER_03: Where would you go?
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: I don't want to go oonts ounts.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: No.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: I want to have a big one somewhere where people don't expect Santorini.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: Santorini would be good.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Go to Santorini and be the only one who's absolutely fucking wanked.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: They absolutely hate you.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: Just off pills, just running around everywhere.
- 12:52SPEAKER_03: Like, go anywhere else.
- 12:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: They'd be like, go you go anywhere else.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: Why have you come to Santorini?
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: Because I'm 41.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: But I want to behave like a 25-year-old.
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: Oh, I want the mature version of it.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: I think that might be quite a good uh way to live my life.
- 13:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that'd be that actually be really funny to see.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: Go to places where I behave like a 25-year-old.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's odd.
- 13:14SPEAKER_03: Great.
- 13:17SPEAKER_03: What you up to coming up?
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: You got anything coming up?
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: Uh work-wise, um, I um I don't know if you know this, Yanis, but um I'm a judge on a book prize.
- 13:26SPEAKER_03: I do.
- 13:26SPEAKER_03: You told you told me when I last saw you.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: I'm a judge on the Royal Society Science Book of the Year.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: And at the time of recording, uh, yesterday we announced a short list at the Royal Society.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: The final six.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: So I've got all six books to read by the end of August.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: Uh, which has been a really fun side quest.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: Uh what I'm doing there, I don't know.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: Your side quests are insane.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: Like you're the weirdest thing.
- 13:49unknown: I do end up with weird things, don't I?
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: I don't know how or why.
- 13:53SPEAKER_03: What's each hand up to this?
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 13:55SPEAKER_03: Celebrity master chef.
- 13:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: Judging a book from so so I I don't know what it says about me.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: What does it say about me, you think?
- 14:03SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: That you just live you live a varied life.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well that's nice.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: I thought you were gonna say that you do anything for money.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: That's true which is also true.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: That's true, yeah.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: Um uh yeah, so that's been that to be honest, the last month, the last two months has been taken up by that because in the first round of uh reading I had 18 books to read, 17 books to read in a month.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: Well six weeks.
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: Even still.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was like crazy.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: So and they're probably dense books as well.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: Very dense books.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: And like well, it's the prize for the most accessible science writing.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: Um but they were thick books, and they're science.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to get my head around the science as well.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: So I've been doing that.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: Um I've been uh writing with Stand Up, I'm kind of um I'm going uh from August, I'm going on a like little mini tour with Dan Nightingale.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: Uh we're doing about 30, 40 dates.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: Ah, okay.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: Um 40 days?
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: A mini tour, and you're like, you know what?
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: I'm just doing 40 dates.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm calling it mini because I'm opening, I'm not doing 20, 25 minutes.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 15:08SPEAKER_03: Uh you're still touring 40 days though.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I guess so.
- 15:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: Um so I'm just getting prepared for that.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: And um beyond that though, I'm just taking a bit of a step back from stand up a bit because I just want to try and focus my mind on like really honing in on what I do online.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: That's like a big thing for me at the moment.
- 15:27SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: Um because as you've alluded to, I do so much random shit.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: And I have no idea who my audience is.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: Because they come from so many different places.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: You do, yeah.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: And then I turn up at like when I did my tour show in Liverpool and in uh Birmingham and then Leicester back to back.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: I only had six Asian people across the two.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: What?
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: I didn't Yeah.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: Asians don't fuck with me, man.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: That's so interesting.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: Isn't that mad?
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: And you've seen me do brown sauce gigs where Where it's like full Asian audiences.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: Full Asian, and I smash it.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: Because I'm Asian.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: And really Asian.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: But people think I'm a coconut and a sellout.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: So they don't come to my shows.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: And then you sing to them and then they They're like, oh, okay.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: He speaks five languages when you know that.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: They're like, why are you so white online?
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: I'm like, what?
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: What do you mean?
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: I don't know what you want from me.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: So yeah, so I'm focusing on that.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Um my musical.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: I'm writing a musical.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: Are you being serious?
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: What?
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: I'm writing a musical.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: We're trying to.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: That's cool.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: If anyone here what who's watching this can help me write the musical, it'd be really great.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: Do you do you have a premise for it yet?
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: It's about the 1773 Battle of Plassey.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: Which is the first time the British East India Company took over a part of India and started their colonization protest.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: But it was a it's a story looking at that year where Robert Clive, with the help of the Nawab's uncle called Jafar, which is where the name Jafar comes from, was able to overthrow him and take over India.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: And it's just a comedy of errors that took place.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: And for me, I was like, it's one of the most seminal moments in global history that not many people know about.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: But it can I want to write it as a comedy musical.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: That'd be great.
- 17:09SPEAKER_01: So I've written like one act, yeah, a dialogue.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: Now I'm looking for music.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: You know, I sing a bit and I used to dance, but I needed like a proper professional to help me with it.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: But that's uh what are you looking for?
- 17:22SPEAKER_03: Are you looking for a musician?
- 17:24SPEAKER_03: Are you looking for a side?
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: I want someone who can help me write some songs because the songs also like I want to showcase South Asian music that goes beyond the one song everybody knows.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: And be like, you know, there's this whole beautiful range.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: And so I just think that a a period period comedy musical like that would be really great.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: That's a really good idea.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: That'd be really fun.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: I've yeah, I'm trying, I'm really enjoying the process of writing the dialogue.
- 17:51SPEAKER_03: Oh, nice.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: Um, kind of uh I want it to be like a hybrid of Hamilton and Avenue Q.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: So there'll be like offensive jokes in it, great songs, put them together, yeah, and yeah, see what happens.
- 18:03SPEAKER_03: That feels like very much your style though, actually, thinking about that.
- 18:07SPEAKER_03: Like the com the comparison, like like not comparison, but those two styles, Avenue Q, Hamilton, putting that together.
- 18:13SPEAKER_03: Oh, really?
- 18:13SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 18:14SPEAKER_03: Why do you say that?
- 18:14SPEAKER_03: Like that's Avenue Q but I get.
- 18:16SPEAKER_03: Avenue Q, but then there's also like you talk about historical things in your stand-up and everything.
- 18:21SPEAKER_03: You like you do incorporate a lot of that stuff in there.
- 18:23SPEAKER_03: So I can see like I can see the meshing of that.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: Oh, thank you.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: I appreciate it.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: This is the nicest Yanis has ever been to me, by the way.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: I think it's because it's his podcast.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: So he doesn't want people to know the real him.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: I am nice to you behind the scenes.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: But on WhatsApp and in person, you are so mean to me.
- 18:44SPEAKER_03: I love it though.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: It's a big part of our relationship and our friends.
- 18:47SPEAKER_03: It is, but I don't I I I also can't think about I don't know where it started.
- 18:50SPEAKER_03: I have no idea.
- 18:51SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 18:52SPEAKER_03: But yeah, but you used to do it to me as well.
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, of course.
- 18:55SPEAKER_03: That's where it comes from.
- 18:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: I think it's I think it started at um uh what was that venue?
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: North two north down.
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: Where we first met, I believe.
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: Probably.
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: It was either there or 21 Soho, we would have.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think it was too north down, and then and I just we just hit it off and like I was just being myself, and then you were like, Oh, we're not gonna take this guy seriously at all.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: I appreciate it.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: Someone has to do it.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: If someone had to knock me down a pickle too.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: I think what's weird, I think people feel like they have to knock me down a pickle too because I'm always so happy.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: That you know what?
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: That could be it.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: I think that's what it is.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: But I'm like, well, it's not gonna work.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: No, yeah, I'm always so happy.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: You don't care.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: I'm so shameless.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: Even if like a comic a comic could come up to me and be like, I think you're shit a comedy.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: I'm like, You find it funny.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: I'm like, alright.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: Because I'm not.
- 19:46SPEAKER_03: Yes, exactly.
- 19:47SPEAKER_03: That's a that's a good way to live.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: I try my best to not be bothered by it.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: Listen, I had a mother and I have my own brain.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: So the meanest things have been said.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: There is nothing anyone can say to me that can touch the sides.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 20:03SPEAKER_03: But also you've got to have a thick skin in comedy.
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: You have to have a thick skin.
- 20:07SPEAKER_03: Especially like especially when you get to your level.
- 20:09SPEAKER_03: Because you're gonna get people all the time that are just like in the like comments all the time.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: Whether it's comics or the Joe Public, like the block button on my Instagram is probably the most used function on my Instagram.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, it's not just racism.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: Like the race every day expected, I'll get five or ten bits of racism on my it's just ridiculous.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: I kind of lean into it.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't however invite it, I never say you can have a go at me, but I don't know why my race has to be brought into it.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: But that happens every day.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: But then a number of people who are just like I think a source of great pride for me is that on the same uh comment thread there'll be Muslims and right wingers universally calling me shit.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: And that I think is a gift.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: They're both calling me a piece of shit.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, you know what?
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: I'm uniting this country.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: That's the real unite the kingdom.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: Let's do a march of Muslims and right wingers that hate me.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: Put them all together, and then we can all get along.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: How about that?
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: That's my service to the world.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: You bring about world peace.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: World peace through hatred for me.
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: No love here, just hating on me.
- 21:25SPEAKER_03: We'd love to see that.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think I think that would work.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: I think I'll I'll write to who is it now, Andy Burnham?
- 21:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: Well, it's gonna be.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: I'll be like, Andy, listen, you wanna help you like the kingdom?
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: Get me, get me in.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: I'll piss Muslims and right-wingers off at the same time.
- 21:40SPEAKER_03: Um, okay, so you you've come here today to talk about the movie Step Brothers.
- 21:45SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 21:46SPEAKER_03: Because I sent you a long list of of films because you weren't sure.
- 21:50SPEAKER_03: You're like, I like a lot of shit films.
- 21:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:52SPEAKER_03: That was what you said.
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: And then I sent you a list and you're like, I love Step Brothers.
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: And I was like, Me too.
- 21:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, great.
- 21:57SPEAKER_03: We've got to talk about this.
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: The thing for me.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: It's like I don't I don't really watch very many films.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: I've never been a guy who's really into films.
- 22:05SPEAKER_03: That really surprises me, you know.
- 22:06SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 22:07SPEAKER_03: Why?
- 22:07SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 22:08SPEAKER_03: I just always pictured you as like someone who would watch a lot of stuff.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: Films are something I've just never got into.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: And so when I do watch films, for whatever reason, I would say 95% of the time, I'm choosing funny, stupid premise films.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: So like uh more cop.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: You know, like God.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: Like, honestly, like really shit films like that, I love it.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: So I think it's just because it's just so stupid.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: And to me, the hour and a half or two hours I spend watching that film, it doesn't feel like I'm wasting time.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: I feel like my brain is like settling.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: Whereas when I watch a more serious film, I feel like I'm having to do more thinking.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: And I don't, yeah.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: I didn't get into this job to think, you know?
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: I don't want to spend time thinking.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, fair enough.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: Um, so yeah, uh Will Farrell is a big hero of mine.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: I can see that.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: I love him.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: Um, and a lot of the comedy I I like watching is slightly unhinged.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: It's like I think he should leave, Tim Robinson.
- 23:10SPEAKER_03: Oh, so good.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: One of my favourite sketch shows.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: It's amazing.
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: And my comedy style isn't like theirs.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: Not at all.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: No.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: But I love watching, you know, a Will Ferrell meltdown or a Steve Corell character work or Tim Robinson.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: Those are my three guys.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: Anything they make, I'll watch.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: And I'll love.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: Uh I used to love Sasha Brown Cohen.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: Until until he started opening his mouth about stuff that he didn't need to open his mouth about.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: So it's a real source of sadness for me that I've had to it's it's really upsetting, isn't it?
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: It's like, it's Do you know my Ball Rat story?
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: I don't know your Ball Rat story though.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: So uh at the time I was a private banker in Mayfair.
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: When Borrat first came out.
- 23:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: And on the HMV on um Oxford Street, yeah, yeah.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: Um they were giving away a manchini with every copy.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: So I was at work, fully suited and booted, by the way.
- 24:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:05SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, well, I'm gonna go and fucking get this DVD because I want to watch the film again.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: I love Borat.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: Um get the manchini.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: I put the manchini over my suit and walk back to the office.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: I was like, that's gonna be funny for the.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: As I'm walking through the corridor, these are like the the building shared a wall with carriages.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: That's where it is.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: Oh god.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: And it was an an old building uh that used to house some of the Queen's guards.
- 24:28SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: So you can imagine the opulence and the slight juxtaposition of me walking in.
- 24:34SPEAKER_03: How old are you at this point?
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: I am uh twenty-two.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: Okay, uh yeah, twenty-two.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: I walk in, and as I'm walking down the corridor, coming down the stairs uh was is the uh the global head of the private bank.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: Now he was based in Geneva and he would come to London maybe three times a year.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: So basically he was never there, except on it.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: So I'm walking down and he looks at me and he's like, What's that?
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: And I said, Oh, these are these are braces.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: And he goes, Well, why do they stop?
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: And he pointed at my crotch.
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: And I was like, This is I've never met this fucker.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and this is the first time.
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: And he goes, Come upstairs.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, Oh, I'm about to get sacked.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: This is so I go upstairs and he goes, Right, take it off.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: Now, as I'm trying to take this off, in the nervousness, it gets bunched up in my gooch.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: So I'm like snapping at this manchini like it's a rubber band trying to get it off.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: Just looking at this global head of the private bank, he's a very serious banker based in Geneva, just looking at me like, who the fuck is this guy?
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: Eventually get it off, and he's he just gives me a whole speech about how it's very unbecoming.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: I'm a private banker client, I need to respect the building, blah, blah, blah, all this stuff.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: And he said, Look, um I didn't want to know your name in this context, and now your name will only ever be known to me in this context.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: I was like, I am never getting promoted in this fucking gap.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: I go back to my desk.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: My boss is like, You took a photo.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: Where have you been?
- 26:17SPEAKER_01: And I told them, and they would not stop laughing, and they got the manchini up and they just like pinned it against a wall behind me.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: Oh god.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: Fucking awful.
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: Did you ever see him again?
- 26:29SPEAKER_03: No.
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: You never saw him.
- 26:31SPEAKER_03: Never saw him again.
- 26:33SPEAKER_03: Isn't that mad?
- 26:34SPEAKER_03: That is mad.
- 26:35SPEAKER_03: Never saw him again.
- 26:36SPEAKER_03: Because he was based in Geneva.
- 26:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:38SPEAKER_03: But it feels like one of those things it's like, oh, now I've seen him, I'm gonna see him like constantly.
- 26:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, never saw him again.
- 26:44SPEAKER_03: That's crazy.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: I don't even sometimes I think, was I an acid?
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: Like, what happened?
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: Did I just hallucinate the whole experience?
- 26:51SPEAKER_03: You had some mad times at that place.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I had some mad times at that place.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: Really mad times in a banking place.
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: All through my career, actually, I've done some mad shit.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: Um, but I think that's probably why I'm drawn to like really shit films.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: Because I just because all those jobs are also very serious jobs.
- 27:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's the thing.
- 27:09SPEAKER_01: I was a private banker, government policy advisor, speech writer, like they're high-level jobs.
- 27:14SPEAKER_03: And you need to unwind something.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: I needed to unwind, and I think like when I was developing formulating my um my uh uh kind of taste in film, yeah, uh it just swung kind of that way.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: Oh interesting.
- 27:29SPEAKER_01: With one of my um one of my exits, her brother was a real film brother like he had uh this was not long into our relationship, but he says, Oh, one of my I'm going to film club tonight, one of my friends who's supposed to go drop it out, do you want to come with me?
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: Now obviously I'm trying to impress the brother.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, yeah.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: Now I I had a sense of him, but I didn't quite know what he was into.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: So we sat we sat in this, it was in a church like chapel hall type thing, almost like a Quaker building.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: And we sat down and everybody there is white and posh.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: And so the guy who's the leader, I guess, goes, Oh, as you can see, we've got a new member.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, Oh, I'm not a member, I'm just, you know, the company this guy.
- 28:14SPEAKER_01: And they said, Okay, we'll you know, it's a film club, so what's what's your favourite film?
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: And I said, Well, my favourite film is Anchorman.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: Nothing wrong with that.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: And then he the guy went, ha ha ha, okay, what's your actual favourite film?
- 28:31SPEAKER_00: And then I went, it's it's Anchorman.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: So he looks at the my brother-in-law, I guess, just like, Well, who the fuck is this guy?
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: And then they started talking about some French film, the name of which I can't remember.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: It was subtitled, it was in black and white, yeah, and they were talking about like what it said about the class system in France.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: Lahaine?
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 29:01SPEAKER_03: I'm trying to remember.
- 29:01SPEAKER_03: I'm trying to I'm trying to remember.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: There's some film about the class system in France, and they were discussing whether or not a sex scene was necessary.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: And I had nothing to add to this conversation.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: So I got up, I made myself a coffee, they were chatting.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: Uh, I asked more questions about the sex scene.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: You're like, can we watch this sex scene?
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: Can we go watch the sex scene?
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: What positions, what was happening?
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: Um, and then afterwards, my brother-in-law was like, I didn't know you didn't know anything about film.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I know, I know nothing about film.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: I could see him really work out whether or not he wanted me to be with his sister.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: What did you watch that day?
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: Do you remember?
- 29:45SPEAKER_03: W the film that yeah, it was this French film.
- 29:47SPEAKER_03: Oh, it was that French film.
- 29:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:49SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 29:49SPEAKER_03: I thought they were just talking about it.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: So they they showed like clips of it.
- 29:53unknown: Oh my god.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: It was one of them ones.
- 29:55SPEAKER_01: They didn't show the whole film.
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: They didn't even show the whole film.
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: What's the point?
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: I think you're meant to have watched it beforehand.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: Like a book club.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: I don't know, man.
- 30:03SPEAKER_03: I've never heard of these films, I've I've not heard of these film clubs.
- 30:07SPEAKER_01: It's one of those like WhatsApp groups, I guess.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: That's just posh white people just keeping each other entertained.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:15SPEAKER_03: Oh god, I would hate that.
- 30:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 30:16SPEAKER_03: And I like films.
- 30:17SPEAKER_03: I like and I would still hate that.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: And then imagine me there going, oh no, Anchorman.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: I must have looked so fucking special.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: I love Lamp.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: I love Lamp.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: Can I come to the pants party?
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: A party in your pants.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so and Stepbrothers immediately.
- 30:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but the thing is, like, both like Anchorman and Stepbrothers are both classic comedy films.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: That's the thing.
- 30:46SPEAKER_01: They're classic comedy films.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: And the reason I like Will Ferrell films, and this is just like a slight bit of analysis.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: Is he actually does address some pretty interesting issues.
- 30:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: So, like, what was the finance one he did?
- 31:01SPEAKER_01: Uh which I love.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: Will Ferrell?
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: Will Ferrell film?
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: Uh with Mark Wahberg.
- 31:08SPEAKER_03: Oh, the other guys.
- 31:09SPEAKER_03: The other guys.
- 31:10SPEAKER_03: That's really good.
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: It's such a great film.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:13SPEAKER_01: And at the end, they talk about like the economy and financial dealings and all this stuff.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: So to me, what I love about a Will Ferrell film, and I think this is probably slightly the kind of thing I like doing, is he takes serious I guess fairly serious topics.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: Like with Anchorman, it was about women's place in the media.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: At its core, that's a big part of what it was about.
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: Um Step Brothers, I think, is very interesting about family dynamics and broken families.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're old and they're stupid.
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: And the other guys was all about finance, right?
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: So I think that's what I like is you don't realise that he's talking about quite an important thing.
- 31:51SPEAKER_03: That's really true.
- 31:52SPEAKER_03: I've not thought about it.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: In a really crazy welfare way.
- 31:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's actually really true.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, I did some film club analysis.
- 31:59SPEAKER_03: Also, all three of those are Adam McKay films.
- 32:03SPEAKER_03: They're all directed by Adam McKay, who then went on to do um the big short.
- 32:08SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: So it's it's I think that's what I like, right?
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: It's a serious topic through a very silly prism where you don't even realize that the serious thing is being discussed.
- 32:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:19SPEAKER_03: So he he started obviously well, he started in like really broad comedy, and then he's he's moved into like comedic things within like a serious topic.
- 32:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:30SPEAKER_03: Like so like the big short is it's got comedic moments and everything.
- 32:33SPEAKER_03: It's still a funny film, but like it's it's a it's a lot more serious now.
- 32:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:36SPEAKER_03: And then he did Vice, and he did Don't Look Up, which is awful.
- 32:41SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 32:41SPEAKER_03: I don't know what Don't Look Up is about.
- 32:43SPEAKER_03: It's about the end of the world.
- 32:45SPEAKER_03: Like it's just uh it's just a terrible film.
- 32:47SPEAKER_03: Right, okay.
- 32:47SPEAKER_03: But like so many people in it, it's like Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl, Meryl Streep, oh yeah, Jennifer Lawrence.
- 32:53SPEAKER_03: It's so bad.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: Does Leonardo DiCaprio wear glasses and a cardigan in it?
- 32:56SPEAKER_03: I think so.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: Right, and that they're at dinner, yeah, yeah.
- 32:59SPEAKER_03: And the NC.
- 33:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: Yes, I remember this.
- 33:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:02SPEAKER_03: It came out on Netflix like Christmas time.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: Right, yes, yes, yes.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: I do know I remember this film.
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I remember watching it, I guess.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: Uh but yeah, I that's what I like about uh Will Ferrell.
- 33:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:14SPEAKER_03: Do you know?
- 33:15SPEAKER_03: Well, there's one thing apparently, like they had a like hit So I used to make films with Adam McKay all the time, and then he had like a falling out, they had a falling out over I believe it was something to do with succession, because they As in the drama the the series, because Will Ferrell's production company makes made succession, which is also interesting, because that's that's not something you'd expect from Will Ferrell.
- 33:41SPEAKER_03: I didn't know that.
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 33:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he produced the show.
- 33:45SPEAKER_03: That is sick.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: Isn't that crazy?
- 33:47SPEAKER_01: That's made me love him even more.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: How cool see, this is what I mean about Will Ferrell.
- 33:51SPEAKER_01: Like, I think he does grapple with big, serious topics, but he the only way he knows to make sense of it is that juxtaposition of being absolutely insane, stupid.
- 34:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:03SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 34:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and he's a like if you ever see him in like other stuff where he dro he tries to be a bit more dramatic as well, he's still really good.
- 34:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's the other thing about comedic actors, is like they can do they can do they can go serious a lot better than the serious actors can go eat it.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: But this is why I love Steve Steve Carell.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think Steve Carell is one of my heroes.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: I think he's a guy who's so talented, and to be able to switch from the great improviser that he is one of the best into really serious roles, yeah.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: I think he's just brilliant.
- 34:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he's one of the best going.
- 34:36SPEAKER_01: Like he's he is in the big show, isn't he?
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: Steve Carell.
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he is, yeah.
- 34:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:40SPEAKER_01: And then have that scene with the uh the Chinese guy.
- 34:43SPEAKER_01: It's like, look at him.
- 34:45SPEAKER_01: He's he topped, and he's like, I am American, but he I just play the act and just it makes him feel better.
- 34:50SPEAKER_01: It's going so good.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: You know I love shit like that.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's really inspired me.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: Because that's the kind of shit I want to do and make.
- 34:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 34:59SPEAKER_03: I can that's what I can see, yeah.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: Okay, so it all is coming together.
- 35:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, this makes a lot of sense.
- 35:04SPEAKER_03: It's not quite out of the realms as to why, like, no, this all makes this this all like makes sense now of like what all fits with with your taste.
- 35:11SPEAKER_03: Taste brand.
- 35:13SPEAKER_03: Ah, interesting.
- 35:14SPEAKER_03: Like, uh yeah, so like Step Brothers itself is so the premise.
- 35:18SPEAKER_03: Do you want to give the premise?
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: Like, if you if there's not much of a premise, there's not much of a premise, but essentially it's um Will Farrell and John C.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: Riley are in their what late 30s?
- 35:29SPEAKER_03: They are 39 and 40, yeah.
- 35:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, 39 and 40.
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: Uh they live with their respective parents.
- 35:35SPEAKER_01: Will Farrell lives with his mum.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: John C.
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: Riley lives with his dad.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: The mum and dad meet separately at a conference, yeah, and they eventually decide to move in together, and it charts the story of these two stepbrothers negotiating each other and seeing whether or not it can work as a family unit.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 35:53SPEAKER_03: And it's very silly.
- 35:55SPEAKER_03: It's like one of I say it's like one of the most ridiculous Will Ferrell movies.
- 36:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 36:02SPEAKER_03: I would put it up there as one of those, but like it works, the two of them together work so well.
- 36:06SPEAKER_03: John C.
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: Riley, I think, is very underrated.
- 36:09SPEAKER_01: He's incredibly underrated.
- 36:10SPEAKER_01: He's so good in those roles.
- 36:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 36:12SPEAKER_03: And like he's he comes from like he comes from he's gone from like doing.
- 36:18SPEAKER_01: You're gonna say like theatre, aren't you?
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: Something like that.
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: No, he's he's gone from like very serious roles, and like he's he's done stuff in like Gangs in New York and Chicago.
- 36:26SPEAKER_03: Oh and like he was Oscar nominated for Chicago.
- 36:29SPEAKER_03: Was he?
- 36:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, bruh! And then like a few years later, he's making Step Brothers.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's great.
- 36:35SPEAKER_01: See, I I think that's so great.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I think their characters are so well defined.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: One thing I love about Will, there's a consistent thing about Will Ferrell films.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: He didn't do it in the Step Brothers.
- 36:46SPEAKER_01: Oh no, he did.
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: At some point, he has a meltdown in an office or an office attire.
- 36:51SPEAKER_01: And whenever Will Ferrell has a romantic interest, they're usually smoking hot.
- 36:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:55SPEAKER_01: He always casts a super smoking hot, which I think is quite meta because he's like, I think he knows people know what he's doing.
- 37:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: Like he had Eva Mendez in um Oh yeah, they make the whole joke about that.
- 37:05SPEAKER_03: The whole joke about because Mike Warburg's like, what's going on here?
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Mike Warb's like, what's going on?
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: And he's like, Don't respect us, he's a dirty whore.
- 37:12SPEAKER_01: It's so good.
- 37:13SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, and so John C.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: Riley and Wolf are very good.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: And what I love about this film as well is like um they're so good at playing stroppy teenagers.
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: So good.
- 37:24SPEAKER_01: Uh, and the kind of power struggle, but then how they eventually become friends um is really lovely.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: Um, what was their shared love?
- 37:33SPEAKER_01: They shared they did a game, didn't they?
- 37:36SPEAKER_01: That they were like um the best sandwich or something.
- 37:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they were just like uh I'm gonna say your favorite dinosaur thing to you, and then they say the fate your favorite magazine to to jug off to, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: Did we just become best friends?
- 37:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: And then they built a bunk bed together.
- 37:54SPEAKER_03: The funniest scene in the whole movie.
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, there were so many.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: It was the building the bunk bed together, Will Ferrell putting his balls on the drum kit.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: Like, and they actually show a pair of balls.
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: They show a pair of balls on the drum kit.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: One of my favourite lines in the whole world is John C.
- 38:11SPEAKER_01: Riley saying, What if Nancy sees me coming out of the shower from my chest head to my ball throw?
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: Um and me and my brother would quote ball throw to each other constantly.
- 38:21SPEAKER_03: I just love his dad's reaction.
- 38:22SPEAKER_01: He just goes, Shut the fuck up! Shut the fuck up! Um, and of course, there's boats and hoes.
- 38:26SPEAKER_03: Boats and hoes are great.
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: One of the greatest songs ever made.
- 38:29SPEAKER_03: It's so good, it's so funny.
- 38:31SPEAKER_03: And that's the video they make for it as well.
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: It's so, so funny.
- 38:35SPEAKER_01: Spaff all the money, ruin the boat.
- 38:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, his dad's gonna have his dad has to pay 80 grand to fix the boat that they were supposed to take on their retirement around the world.
- 38:44SPEAKER_03: And then, of course, oh, that's why he's in succession.
- 38:48SPEAKER_00: Will Farrell's brother in the film.
- 38:51SPEAKER_03: He's not in succession.
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: He's not in succession.
- 38:54SPEAKER_03: No, he's in Parks and Rec and um not succession.
- 38:57SPEAKER_03: He's in um similar looking Severance.
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: Severance, okay.
- 39:01SPEAKER_01: Sorry, yes.
- 39:01SPEAKER_01: It was a similar vibe.
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: That was it.
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: But yeah, then the yeah, and then there's the Catalina wine mixer, which is a classic scene.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: It's such such a great scene where they're just talking about Will trying to grow up, yeah, and then going making something with himself with the Catalina wine mixer.
- 39:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: It's uh I think it's such a funny film.
- 39:20SPEAKER_01: There's so many good bits in it.
- 39:21SPEAKER_03: It's so, it's just like it's so quotable, it's so funny.
- 39:25SPEAKER_03: And one of the things I was reading about it, like it this it even says it on literally on the Wikipedia page here.
- 39:31SPEAKER_03: It says, This the film has been widely re-appraised with later retrospectives, noting that the repeat viewings help cement its popularity and contributed to a reputation as a cult favourite.
- 39:42SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 39:43SPEAKER_03: So like it had a bad reputation when it came out, and then like people re-watched it and were like, no, this is a great movie.
- 39:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:50SPEAKER_01: It's a great fun movie, it's one of those easy watching movies.
- 39:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and you will laugh.
- 39:54SPEAKER_01: Like that you will 100% laugh at multiple points.
- 39:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh for sure.
- 40:00SPEAKER_01: In in in the film.
- 40:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 40:02SPEAKER_03: Um it's got like, so the reviews, it's got 54% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is it's like it's middling, but it's like just below what would be a positive, so 60 is positive on there.
- 40:14SPEAKER_03: Okay, so the higher it goes, is better.
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, right.
- 40:16SPEAKER_03: So it's at 54, 60 is positive, but it the way that it ranks it is like good or bad, and then it just like rates it on that.
- 40:23SPEAKER_03: So basically, like 54% of people are giving it a good review.
- 40:27SPEAKER_03: Right, okay.
- 40:28SPEAKER_03: Um, but then audience score, 69.
- 40:32SPEAKER_01: Perfect.
- 40:33SPEAKER_03: Which is the perfect score for it.
- 40:34SPEAKER_01: Perfect score for it.
- 40:35SPEAKER_01: That makes complete sense.
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: What is the highest rated Will Ferrell film on Ron Tones?
- 40:40SPEAKER_01: Do you know?
- 40:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, that is a good question.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: Let me have a look.
- 40:42SPEAKER_01: I'm really What do you think it is?
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: I think it's probably gonna be Anchorman.
- 40:46SPEAKER_01: I don't think it is.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: Uh I s yeah, my suspicion is either.
- 40:51SPEAKER_03: Are you talking are you talking like lead film?
- 40:54SPEAKER_03: Like he's the lead.
- 40:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:56SPEAKER_03: Okay, let me have a look.
- 40:57SPEAKER_01: I wonder if you can find that out.
- 40:59SPEAKER_03: I'm just looking through his his films.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: Because I suspect it would be Anchorman.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: I think that's the most seminal movie that he's the lead in.
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: The other guy's a 78.
- 41:12SPEAKER_01: Oh wow! That's much higher than I expected it to be.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, me too.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: That's a Rotten Tomato score.
- 41:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 41:20SPEAKER_03: Anchorman has 66.
- 41:23SPEAKER_03: That's way lower than I thought.
- 41:24SPEAKER_03: That's way lower than I thought.
- 41:26SPEAKER_03: Oh, of course, it's elf.
- 41:28SPEAKER_03: Number one.
- 41:28SPEAKER_03: 85.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: Elf again! Of course it's elf.
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: Another great will feral movie in terms of capturing the essence of a serious topic.
- 41:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:40SPEAKER_01: About wanting a father and childhood Christmas.
- 41:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:46SPEAKER_01: It's the art it's one of the best Christmas movies.
- 41:50SPEAKER_03: Um and the mum in that is the mum in this.
- 41:54SPEAKER_03: Yes! It's so funny when you think about it, like they they all cross over with each other.
- 41:58SPEAKER_03: They do, yeah.
- 41:59SPEAKER_03: Well, she's been around for like she's she's been in stuff for years.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: She's she's also, can I just say, I think she's really fit with Step Brothers.
- 42:08SPEAKER_03: Just in Step Brothers.
- 42:09SPEAKER_01: I think she's fit generally, but in Step Brothers, there was a particular Milfie quality too that I really enjoyed.
- 42:17SPEAKER_01: Are you happy I'm on the pod?
- 42:18SPEAKER_03: Uh do you know what?
- 42:20SPEAKER_03: I somehow knew you were gonna say it as well.
- 42:23SPEAKER_03: That's why I was laughing.
- 42:25SPEAKER_03: I didn't know I knew it was coming up.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: I just needed my tone changed.
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, it was like, he's gonna make a crude sex thing here.
- 42:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I like I like the Milfi quality.
- 42:34SPEAKER_01: I think she's a better casting than Eva Mendes.
- 42:37SPEAKER_01: Eva Mendez is too hot.
- 42:39SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I mean?
- 42:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and also like unattainably hot.
- 42:44SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 42:44SPEAKER_03: Well, I mean she is with Ryan Gosling.
- 42:46SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 42:47unknown: Right?
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: So unattainably hot.
- 42:49SPEAKER_01: Like I could never.
- 42:51SPEAKER_01: But but this what's her name?
- 42:52SPEAKER_03: Mary Steenbergen.
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Mary Steinbergen.
- 42:55SPEAKER_01: For some reason, I think that's more attainable for me.
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: Married to Ted Danson?
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: Do you know Ted Danson?
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I do know Ted Dansen.
- 43:01SPEAKER_01: Still more attainable.
- 43:02SPEAKER_01: Just about.
- 43:04SPEAKER_01: That's how I judge someone's hotness, where I go, if I think I have a chance, then you can find them hot.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: Otherwise it's too abstract.
- 43:15SPEAKER_01: Right, okay.
- 43:16SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I mean?
- 43:17SPEAKER_01: Otherwise it's just I'm just looking at a painting.
- 43:23SPEAKER_03: I kind of get what you're saying.
- 43:24SPEAKER_01: So, like, okay.
- 43:26SPEAKER_01: Real life example.
- 43:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah.

- 43:31SPEAKER_01: There's no way, right?
- 43:33SPEAKER_01: She is way too hot.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: Okay?
- 43:36SPEAKER_01: Can't do it.
- 43:37SPEAKER_01: Um You gotta be careful.
- 43:42SPEAKER_00: I know, because it's going to go on camera.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: My jammer, ridiculous, it's not gonna happen.

- 44:14SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 44:14SPEAKER_00: Colin.
- 44:18SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 44:19SPEAKER_03: Colin Joyce is head writer for SNL and like the the bulkiest man in like the he's like I've been on Animals Do the Funniest Things.
- 44:28SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 44:32SPEAKER_01: Like we'd established earlier, I'll do anything for money.
- 44:34SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 44:35SPEAKER_01: Um okay, which cele which celebrity, like global icon celebrity.
- 44:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for you.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, do you reckon is attainable?
- 44:44SPEAKER_03: For you.
- 44:45SPEAKER_00: Oh, I don't know.
- 44:48SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 44:50SPEAKER_00: Shakira.
- 44:52SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 44:54SPEAKER_00: Why not?
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: Because Shakira, she's in her 50s.
- 44:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:59SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 45:00SPEAKER_00: Uh big public falling out with Gerard PK.
- 45:03SPEAKER_00: Who's she dating now?
- 45:06SPEAKER_00: But I don't think she's met like a charming Asian man.
- 45:13SPEAKER_01: And I get the impression she'll appreciate the fact that I can dance a bit.
- 45:17SPEAKER_03: Oh no, that could be true.
- 45:18SPEAKER_03: There, there's there's your that could be your inn.
- 45:20SPEAKER_01: That could be my inn.
- 45:21SPEAKER_03: Okay, fair enough.
- 45:24SPEAKER_03: This is a 4D chess, bro.
- 45:26SPEAKER_01: You had to get in there like right after the divorce.
- 45:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know, but I think all it takes is one harminamina, and then she'll be like, well, who's that?
- 45:35SPEAKER_01: Who's Waka Waka?
- 45:37SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 45:38SPEAKER_01: Shakira Shakira.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: These hips don't lie.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: Your hips don't lie, my hips don't lie.
- 45:44SPEAKER_01: My hips only tell the truth.
- 45:46SPEAKER_01: Because I come from a Muslim background, so I only tell the truth.
- 45:50SPEAKER_01: Does that work?
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: I I guess.
- 45:54SPEAKER_01: It was a bit of a strange reason.
- 45:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Yanis is being very diplomatic, but Yannis is like, you have no chance with any of these women, by the way.
- 46:02SPEAKER_03: I don't know who you have more of a chance with out of Shakira and Scarlett Johansson.
- 46:06SPEAKER_03: Now I'm thinking about it.
- 46:06SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I don't know who would be Scarlet Johansson likes a funny man.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: He does.
- 46:11SPEAKER_01: And I am a funny man.

- 46:16SPEAKER_01: He just went.
- 46:18SPEAKER_03: I was like, do I do I say something?
- 46:21SPEAKER_03: This is where I yeah.
- 46:24SPEAKER_03: Um okay, like back back to the film.
- 46:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 46:27SPEAKER_03: Uh I just want to see, like.
- 46:32SPEAKER_03: Do you know what's really funny?
- 46:34SPEAKER_03: I just this is like on the trivia to the to the film.
- 46:36SPEAKER_03: It says, Joaquin Phoenix claims to have seen this film more times than any other movie.
- 46:41SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 46:42SPEAKER_01: That's fucking great.
- 46:43SPEAKER_01: That look, that makes sense.
- 46:45SPEAKER_03: Of all people, yeah.
- 46:46SPEAKER_03: Joaquin Phoenix.
- 46:47SPEAKER_01: But I can see that with Joaquin Phoenix, though.
- 46:49SPEAKER_01: I can see that he probably quite likes something a bit unhinged.
- 46:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 46:52SPEAKER_01: Um and then he went on to work with John C.
- 46:54SPEAKER_03: Riley in another film.
- 46:56SPEAKER_01: Did he?
- 46:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: John C.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: Riley, man, he's he's had he's had a decent career.
- 47:01SPEAKER_03: He's had a great career.
- 47:02SPEAKER_03: He's a like he'll pop up from like random things that from time to time, and you're like, you're like, oh, I forget how good of an actor he is.
- 47:08SPEAKER_01: A and B, I think he's got the level of fame.
- 47:11SPEAKER_01: I think he's got the level of fame that I want.
- 47:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: Which is he's in bed with all these like hugely successful people.
- 47:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 47:19SPEAKER_01: But I reckon on a pub quiz, maybe 50% will remember his name.
- 47:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:27SPEAKER_01: I know his face.
- 47:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: But I can't remember.
- 47:30SPEAKER_03: He's the Will Ferrell guy.
- 47:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 47:32SPEAKER_03: That's how they'll name him.
- 47:34SPEAKER_03: Do you did you see that he did he came over here and he did um two nights at Soho Theatre?
- 47:39SPEAKER_00: John C.
- 47:40SPEAKER_00: Riley.
- 47:41SPEAKER_03: Last year.
- 47:42SPEAKER_03: What?
- 47:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 47:43SPEAKER_03: He did some kind of like random show that he decided to do.
- 47:47SPEAKER_03: Stand up.
- 47:48SPEAKER_03: No, it wasn't stand-up.
- 47:48SPEAKER_03: It was like some kind of like clowning play sort of thing.
- 47:52unknown: Oh my god.
- 47:53SPEAKER_03: It was at the Walthamstow one.
- 47:55SPEAKER_03: But he did like two nights there.
- 47:56SPEAKER_03: And just out of nowhere.
- 47:59SPEAKER_03: I totally missed that.
- 48:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because they didn't even really need to advertise it because it just sold out immediately.
- 48:04SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 48:06SPEAKER_01: I'm so sad I missed that.
- 48:08unknown: Yeah.
- 48:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 48:10SPEAKER_01: But he's got the right level of fame, I reckon.
- 48:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 48:13SPEAKER_01: Maybe even 40% will know the name.
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: Uh, because yeah, as you said, they'll they'll see him as the Will Ferrell guy.
- 48:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they know his face.
- 48:19SPEAKER_03: They know by name.
- 48:22SPEAKER_01: Because it's such a distinctive face, right?
- 48:23SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: And hair.
- 48:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 48:25SPEAKER_01: But he um he's worked on so many cool films.
- 48:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 48:28SPEAKER_03: Uh Boogie Knights.
- 48:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 48:30SPEAKER_03: Boogie Knights is a great one.
- 48:31SPEAKER_03: I want to find like his list of films.
- 48:33SPEAKER_03: Like again, like Gangs in New York.
- 48:36SPEAKER_03: Which is crazy.
- 48:38SPEAKER_03: He does Oh I forgot.
- 48:41SPEAKER_03: He's in like uh Guardians of the Galaxy.
- 48:44SPEAKER_03: Is he?
- 48:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 48:47SPEAKER_03: He's in Oh yeah, he's he's Wreck It Ralph.
- 48:51SPEAKER_03: He's Yeah, okay, yeah.
- 48:53SPEAKER_03: He's um yeah.
- 48:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's a great career.
- 48:57SPEAKER_03: Uh god, he's he's been in so many things.
- 49:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's been in some cool shit, that guy.
- 49:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he started off in like serious films.
- 49:08SPEAKER_03: And then moved into comedy.
- 49:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 49:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 49:11SPEAKER_03: Anyone will do like Walk Hard.
- 49:13SPEAKER_03: Have you seen Walk Hard?
- 49:14SPEAKER_03: No.
- 49:15SPEAKER_03: Oh god, that is a funny it's a spoof.
- 49:17SPEAKER_03: It's him, he's the lead in it.
- 49:19SPEAKER_03: It's a spoof of all of those like musical biopics that that used to come out around that like like Ray and um Johnny Cash walk the line.
- 49:28SPEAKER_03: Right, yes, yes, yes.
- 49:29SPEAKER_03: So funny because he played just a musician.
- 49:32SPEAKER_03: He's the he's the lead musician in it.
- 49:33SPEAKER_03: Like he's that he's this guy called Dewey Cox, right?
- 49:36SPEAKER_03: And he's just uh he just plays that he plays the Johnny Cash sort of role.
- 49:41SPEAKER_03: Right, okay.
- 49:41SPEAKER_03: And it's so funny.
- 49:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 49:43SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 49:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, oh like, and it that's a film that has like every comedic actor in it as well.
- 49:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 49:49SPEAKER_01: See, I'd love to get to that point in my like where I'm doing shit like that.
- 49:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 49:52SPEAKER_01: Something to cause my fans say, I'm gonna make this film about this thing.
- 49:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:55SPEAKER_01: I'd like to get to that point.
- 49:57SPEAKER_01: But um, yeah, Step Brothers on that list was like my immediate standout.
- 50:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm so glad because like I've been wanting to talk about this one for ages because it's so fun.
- 50:05SPEAKER_03: I love this film so much.
- 50:07SPEAKER_03: What do you love about it?
- 50:08SPEAKER_03: I th I just think it's so ridiculous and so funny, and like people just people look down on that as well a lot of the time.
- 50:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they do, yeah.
- 50:16SPEAKER_03: Especially in the filming, like within like film, they look they look down on like broad comedy.
- 50:22SPEAKER_03: And I think like you there's so much to enjoy about it, and you don't you can again like switch your brain off, you don't have to like overanalyse something about yeah, you can just you can just enjoy a silly film that for what it is, for what it is, yeah.
- 50:38SPEAKER_03: And it's like they're both so over the top, but like also you can but you can believe it as well.
- 50:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I just so much the but I I don't know, this so I can see people like that.
- 50:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean one of my favourite scenes in the whole movie is when they're going for job interviews, yeah.
- 50:53SPEAKER_01: I mean it's where they're tuxedos, huh?
- 50:55SPEAKER_01: And they were tuxedos, and there were tuxedoes, and it's just so funny, yeah.
- 50:59SPEAKER_01: And it they're just both ridiculous, and they're actually trying to help each other in some way to try and get these jobs together at the same time.
- 51:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they just decide to interview at the same time.
- 51:07SPEAKER_01: Same time, and it's so funny and so ridiculous.
- 51:11SPEAKER_03: And then Seth Rogan nearly gives them a job because he's like, Oh, I like I like you were in the tuxedo, it's ironic.
- 51:16SPEAKER_03: I just want some two guys that can hang out for eight hours a day.
- 51:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 51:19SPEAKER_01: Which at its core is what anybody's hiring for.
- 51:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:23SPEAKER_01: Ultimately, like there's certain bits of expertise you want.
- 51:26SPEAKER_01: Even when I was like in my serious jobs, yeah, when I interviewed people, believe it or not, I did interview people for jobs, right?
- 51:33SPEAKER_01: My thing was, are they a good fit for the office?
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: Are they gonna be a good vibe?
- 51:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:38SPEAKER_01: They've got to this interview stage, they can obviously do the work.
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 51:41SPEAKER_01: And whatever we need to train them on, we'll train them on.
- 51:43SPEAKER_01: Nothing's that important.
- 51:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: Um, as a manager, though, I mean, I I was uh very easygoing, shall we say?
- 51:51SPEAKER_01: I can imagine that.
- 51:52SPEAKER_01: I can picture that.
- 51:54SPEAKER_01: I was always like, look, as long as the work gets done, there's two things I want.
- 51:58SPEAKER_01: Make sure the work gets done, and if it's not gonna get done, tell me as early as possible.
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 52:01SPEAKER_01: So we can work it out.
- 52:01SPEAKER_01: That's the way to do it, though.
- 52:02SPEAKER_01: And then you just chill.
- 52:04SPEAKER_01: And after work, we'll go and get pissed.
- 52:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:06SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 52:06SPEAKER_01: And if you're all hung over, I'll know you're hungover.
- 52:09SPEAKER_01: Just let me know, and then we'll make it work.
- 52:12SPEAKER_01: What would happen is I wouldn't be around for them to let me know.
- 52:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:14SPEAKER_01: Because I'd be at home.
- 52:20SPEAKER_03: I was too chill.
- 52:22SPEAKER_03: That's funny.
- 52:23SPEAKER_03: As a boss.
- 52:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I can't imagine you as a boss, but I can also like.
- 52:26unknown: I'm a boss.
- 52:28SPEAKER_03: Well, you were a boss.
- 52:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we yeah, I know.
- 52:31SPEAKER_01: No, I mean, when with the podcasting, obviously I'm not a boss there, but do you think I led well or not?
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think I didn't.
- 52:38SPEAKER_01: I did the podcasting.
- 52:39SPEAKER_03: I do think you did.
- 52:40SPEAKER_03: You like you were very like clear about uh when it came to like clips and stuff.
- 52:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 52:46SPEAKER_03: And on like how you want and things cut getting things cut out and all of that sort of stuff.
- 52:50SPEAKER_03: You were very clear about it.
- 52:51SPEAKER_03: You didn't just like leave me to it.
- 52:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay, good.
- 52:54SPEAKER_03: See?
- 52:54SPEAKER_03: Well, yeah, work with me, guys.
- 52:56SPEAKER_01: I can be a nice short fun boss.
- 52:58SPEAKER_03: Well, it's weird because I didn't cons I didn't see you as a boss.
- 53:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, of course.
- 53:01SPEAKER_03: I would never want you to see me.
- 53:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 53:02SPEAKER_03: Of course not, yeah.
- 53:03SPEAKER_03: I was just working, I was just collaborating with you.
- 53:05SPEAKER_03: That's how I saw it.
- 53:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 53:06SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 53:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 53:07SPEAKER_03: You just hired me, you hired me to do something and I was just there to Can I just say you were very good?
- 53:12SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 53:12SPEAKER_03: I like working with you.
- 53:14SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 53:14SPEAKER_01: I think you're very good at what you do.
- 53:15SPEAKER_01: I appreciate that.
- 53:16SPEAKER_01: Well, don't know if it's true.
- 53:19SPEAKER_01: See, see, he doesn't believe me.
- 53:20SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to be honest, he doesn't believe me.
- 53:22SPEAKER_01: It's so weird when we get earnest with each other.
- 53:24SPEAKER_01: I know it's weird.
- 53:25SPEAKER_01: It makes us both feel very unfortunate.
- 53:27SPEAKER_01: It does.
- 53:27SPEAKER_01: Uh let's go and talk about stepbrothers.
- 53:29SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 53:29SPEAKER_03: Um what is so how many times have you seen this?
- 53:34SPEAKER_03: Do you know?
- 53:35SPEAKER_03: Do you have a guess?
- 53:37SPEAKER_03: Or like when do you do you remember first seeing it?
- 53:39SPEAKER_01: Oh, I do remember when I first saw it, and I knew that I would watch it again immediately.
- 53:43SPEAKER_01: I think I've watched it about ten times.
- 53:44SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 53:45SPEAKER_01: Um rotation on um my Netflix downloaded, whatever.
- 53:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 53:53SPEAKER_01: The Office, yeah, Brooklyn 99, Parks and Rec, Film Wise, Anchorman, Stepbrothers.
- 54:03SPEAKER_01: God, they're all so connected.
- 54:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think you should leave.
- 54:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:07SPEAKER_01: They're all there.
- 54:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:08SPEAKER_01: So if I'm cooking or like I'm just whatever, that's the first thing I'll go for.
- 54:16SPEAKER_01: My habit is to look for one of those things and play them.
- 54:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:19SPEAKER_01: Um if I'm not watching cricket or sport.
- 54:21SPEAKER_01: So stepbrothers has always been on my rotation.
- 54:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:25SPEAKER_01: Uh and I love mouthing the words along.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: Like if I know it's coming, I'm like I kept saying pow to my brother while he was in meetings.
- 54:40SPEAKER_01: Just while he's on Zoom, just screaming it in the room.
- 54:44SPEAKER_01: Uh the other day, my brother and I was talking, and my brother's ten years younger than me.
- 54:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:48SPEAKER_01: You've met him, haven't you?
- 54:49SPEAKER_01: I met him once.
- 54:50SPEAKER_01: Once.
- 54:50SPEAKER_01: Ten years younger than me.
- 54:52SPEAKER_01: Um, and we're really close.
- 54:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:54SPEAKER_01: And we we learned that in terms of like, you know, the sibling that's annoying.
- 55:00SPEAKER_01: You should expect to be the younger one.
- 55:01SPEAKER_01: It's you.
- 55:02SPEAKER_01: It is 100% me.
- 55:03SPEAKER_01: Don't surprise me.
- 55:04SPEAKER_01: I do everything in my power to irritate him as much as possible.
- 55:08SPEAKER_01: But that's you with everyone.
- 55:12SPEAKER_01: That is true.
- 55:13SPEAKER_01: It's you.
- 55:13SPEAKER_01: It's very much my personality.
- 55:15SPEAKER_01: You just love to.
- 55:16SPEAKER_01: Once I uh I messaged, I sent one message to my brother across as many different uh channels as possible, but a word on every channel.
- 55:28SPEAKER_01: Oh fuck.
- 55:29SPEAKER_01: So on what like how on Facebook Messenger, uh, on Instagram, you, you know.
- 55:36SPEAKER_01: So he had email came up.
- 55:42SPEAKER_01: Um I wrote a postcard and left it on his desk for one of the other words.
- 55:49SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 55:50SPEAKER_01: It's just so entertaining for me.
- 55:52SPEAKER_01: He didn't even answer you.
- 55:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he did.
- 55:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the other thing I do sometimes is like, and this is why I think I'll be really good in the Will Ferrell film.
- 56:00SPEAKER_01: Like, on WhatsApp, it's really subtle.
- 56:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just capitalised the last letter of every word.
- 56:07SPEAKER_01: It's so stupid, and it takes up so much of my time.
- 56:14SPEAKER_01: It's just I I just love doing shit like that.
- 56:16SPEAKER_01: That's funny.
- 56:17SPEAKER_01: I think it's just really funny to do have the So this is why I think I like Will Ferrell films.
- 56:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 56:26SPEAKER_03: Actually, you said Anchorman's your favourite.
- 56:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:28SPEAKER_03: Is there are there any others that like the other guys?
- 56:30SPEAKER_03: The other guys.
- 56:30SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 56:31SPEAKER_03: I love the other guys.
- 56:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 56:32SPEAKER_03: I saw um, so I was in New York in 2009.
- 56:36SPEAKER_03: I was doing a study abroad thing there.
- 56:38SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 56:38SPEAKER_03: And I was in the park and I saw them, I saw this thing being filmed.
- 56:42SPEAKER_03: I was like, oh, what's this?
- 56:43SPEAKER_03: And they were like, oh, it's this film called The Other Guys.
- 56:46SPEAKER_03: I was like, oh cool, okay.
- 56:48SPEAKER_03: And you couldn't see them.
- 56:50SPEAKER_03: I just saw like some card, it was it's like the police chase scene or something like that.
- 56:53SPEAKER_03: Oh shit.
- 56:54SPEAKER_03: So I was like, oh, because it was all closed off.
- 56:56SPEAKER_03: I was like, oh cool.
- 56:57SPEAKER_03: Didn't think anything of it.
- 56:58SPEAKER_03: A year later it comes out, and I'm like, I was there.
- 57:00SPEAKER_03: I was there.
- 57:01SPEAKER_03: Also, the thing about I love about the other guys is that cameo from The Rock.
- 57:06SPEAKER_03: That is honestly one of the funniest scenes in any movie.
- 57:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:09SPEAKER_01: So like it's The Rock and Tamil Jackson.
- 57:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:13SPEAKER_01: It takes two minutes, if that.
- 57:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 57:16SPEAKER_01: Right at the beginning of the film.
- 57:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:18SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, how much did they get paid for that cameo?
- 57:21SPEAKER_01: Because that is crazy in terms of time, screen time to status ratio.
- 57:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:27SPEAKER_01: And that made me think of Tamil Jackson.
- 57:29SPEAKER_01: I mean, this guy just he makes money constantly.
- 57:32SPEAKER_01: Oh, he makes so much.
- 57:34SPEAKER_03: You just pay to stay for a bit, yeah.
- 57:36SPEAKER_03: Both of them.
- 57:37SPEAKER_03: Both of them.
- 57:37SPEAKER_03: But I guess like this is sort of like just before The Rock became the rock like properly movies, I think.
- 57:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:44SPEAKER_01: But it's such a mad scene.
- 57:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 57:47SPEAKER_03: And it's so good.
- 57:48SPEAKER_03: It's like it's so unexpected as well.
- 57:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:50SPEAKER_01: It's kind of.
- 57:51SPEAKER_01: And it only ever comes up again once where they mentioned that they were.
- 57:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 57:55SPEAKER_01: But I'm like, it kind of added not that much to the story.
- 58:00SPEAKER_03: No, it doesn't.
- 58:00SPEAKER_03: It's just because they it it's so they can call them the other guys.
- 58:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 58:05SPEAKER_01: But also, I think in my head it was like some someone found out that they were both free at the same time.
- 58:11SPEAKER_01: And then Wolf Rell said, Well, they have to film this.
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: We'll just shoehorn it in.
- 58:16SPEAKER_01: It's so good.
- 58:17SPEAKER_01: It's so good.
- 58:18SPEAKER_03: Like, yeah, I I was dying laughing at that.
- 58:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:22SPEAKER_03: That's that film is so funny.
- 58:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 58:25SPEAKER_03: Like, I again, like you said, but it's so it's also like about a really important topic as well.
- 58:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:30SPEAKER_01: And and so, yeah, so this is the same thing with like stepbrothers.
- 58:34SPEAKER_01: I like I don't.
- 58:36SPEAKER_01: I've got a half-brother.
- 58:38SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 58:39SPEAKER_01: Um, from my mum's previous marriage, and we it wasn't funny, but we know we we had like when he moved to our family home, there was a bit of tension in terms of arranging that.
- 58:50SPEAKER_01: So there's a bit of connection there, but I can see where if you were someone who wanted to, you had some young people, yeah, right, who were going through this exact thing.
- 59:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I would 100% show them this film and be like, look, like it is what you're going through is normal.
- 59:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:08SPEAKER_01: And people are mentor, yeah, but you've got to find some universal ground.
- 59:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:12SPEAKER_01: Because then you'll have something.
- 59:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:14SPEAKER_01: You'll have some common ground.
- 59:15SPEAKER_01: I think it'd be such a good way to like soften the blow of knowing that your mum is now getting railed by another girl.
- 59:23SPEAKER_01: What's okay?
- 59:25SPEAKER_01: What's the worst feeling?
- 59:26SPEAKER_01: Knowing your mum is getting railed by a new man, or the fact that your dad is fucking a new woman.
- 59:32SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 59:33SPEAKER_01: It's good it's then people who listen will say, oh, if you say it's the woman, then you're being a misogynist.
- 59:42SPEAKER_01: And you're saying it's okay for a man to that's not what I'm saying at all.
- 59:45SPEAKER_03: Neither feel great.
- 59:46SPEAKER_01: Neither feel great.
- 59:46SPEAKER_01: I want to think about my parents fucking.
- 59:48SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 59:49SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 59:49SPEAKER_01: I've had to see them do it twice.
- 59:51SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 59:51SPEAKER_01: But I don't not had to, but seems wrong.
- 59:57SPEAKER_01: By accident, it just happened that I ended up seeing them fucking right twice.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_01: Bad.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_01: Don't recommend.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_01: Not because they're my parents, anyone's parents.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_01: Just FYI.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_01: I need to stop talking about this.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_01: But once it's bringing back memories.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_01: Bringing back memories.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_01: But once your parents have split up or something has happened, the thought of them copulating with someone else is not like.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_01: Like I I my after my mum passed, five years after my mum passed away, I said to my dad, Oh dad, you know, I think I think you should meet meet someone.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_01: And he said, Look, I loved your mum, but she put me off the idea of marriage forever.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh fucking hell.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah weirdly though, can I just say the thought of my dad being with someone sexually now actually makes me quite happy?
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_00: Not like it doesn't make me happy sexually.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_01: Happy for him.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_01: I guess.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_01: I'd be happy for him.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_01: Wouldn't you be happy if you knew your friend let's say your friend got laid after a long time.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_01: Would you not be happy for him?
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_01: Would you be happy for me if I told you I got laid recently?
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_03: No.
- 1:01:11unknown: Okay.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_03: You said friend before.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_01: Huh?
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_03: You said friend before that?
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I did.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_01: Fucking hell.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_01: You see what I mean?
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so just uh just to wrap this up with Step Brothers itself and then we'll move on to like the last few bits, but like um Yeah, you said you've seen it probably ten times.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_03: Do you think you've seen Anchorman more?
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've seen I've definitely seen Anchorman more.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_01: Anchorman I've definitely seen like 20 times.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_03: It's just one of the most quotable films.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_03: It's very very, very quotable.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_03: And like, but do you did you find that like I found I found with Anchorman that this is separate to set brothers, because I don't I didn't I don't think this became a cultural thing in the same way that Anchorman did, but like Anchorman just got like too much attention and then it became like over overquoted.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, I mean there was In the way the Borett did as well.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there was this um I saw a meme about this saying that before social media, all men just quoted Ankerman.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_03: Literally, literally.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_01: I think there was definitely that period, and I was definitely one of those men.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_01: Like I would just talk in Anchorman quotes.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_03: I was like 15 when it came out.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_03: So I feel like I was the target audience as well.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, how how old are you how old are you how much older than you am I?
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_03: I don't know how old you are.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_01: I'm 41.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_03: You're four years.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_03: So you were like 19?
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_03: So similar is generation.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_01: And so yeah, hook liners are good, but I was definitely it was definitely quoted a lot.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_01: I mean I four An Anchorman quotes would just fly around.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_01: I think it probably commandeered about 80% of my voc of my vocabulary at the time.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_01: I can't say very nice and glass cage of emotion quite often.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_03: I I just remember like um milk was a bad choice.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_01: Milk was a bad choice, it's so good.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_03: And then just like I remember the other thing I remember was like there would just be t-shirts everywhere with Anchorman quotes on them.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_03: That was the thing.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_03: It was like Anchorman, uh, and then it was uh Chuck Norris stuff.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_03: Do you remember the Chuck Norris?
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_03: Yes, there was a whole Chuck Norris thing.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_03: That was like the original meme.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_01: That was the original meme.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_03: And then there was those two and weirdly built pictures of Bill Murray.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_01: Yes, lots of Bill Murray picks.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_03: And then people loving bacon.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_01: I love I love that era.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_01: That whole what a good era that was!
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_03: What is that?
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_03: It's like Anchorman, Chuck Norris, Bill Murray, and Bacon.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_01: The thing is, I would rather the world was like that than now people quoting fucking what's his name?
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_01: Like, uh who's that professor, Canadian dude?
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_03: Oh, uh Make Your Bed, Kermit guy.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_03: What is his name?
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_03: Jordan Peterson.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_03: Peterson, yeah, Jordan Peterson.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_01: Like, I'd rather young men were of course.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I mean?
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's an innocent time.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_01: Just people saying, Can I I'd like an I'd like to send an invite to the pants party?
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_01: Very nice.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_01: Very nice.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_01: My wife.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_01: But yeah.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_01: It's so harmless.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_01: It's so harmless.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_01: Um, so yeah, I I I love Will Ferrell for the cultural kind of impact he had, but you're right, there was a period of Do you think do you think he'll come back with like with like a broad comedy?
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_03: Do you think he'll come back with it?
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_03: Because he I feel like he hasn't done anything in a while.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_01: He hasn't done anything in a while.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_01: Did you see his Mark Twain acceptance speech?
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_01: No, he was so funny.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, of course.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_03: Um was that a recent one?
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, a couple of years ago.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_01: Is it Mark Twain or some other prize?
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_01: He won some other prize.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_03: I he did win that, I remember him winning that.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and um he he he said something like he was like, uh, I know these things you meant to uh thank your wife, but you talk too much.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_01: You to shut your whore mouth, and I was just like, this is so funny to do this in a tuxed in front of all these people as you're winning this prestigious prize.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_01: He's just yeah.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_03: Um Did you ever see his um you know the James Franco roast?
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_03: Yes, did you ever see him on that?
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_01: Yes, I did.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_03: Where he's like the head, he plays the head of Hollywood.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_03: Yes, and he just insults everyone.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_03: Everyone's so funny.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_01: He's so good, and I think, yeah, so I um, as you probably gather from this, I'm a huge Will Farrell person.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_01: I've been on dates where I've said that to women, and they're like, you need to grow up.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, no, you need to grow up because you don't understand what he's doing.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's a very clever man.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_03: He is a very clever man.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_03: Have you oh oh one thing that I've seen recently of him, because it brought back a memory of like an old so the there's an SNL sketch that he did that was cut for time.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_03: Uh where he is um he's a dra the he a drama teacher and they're like he's casting the the school musical and he's like he's hiding away and watching their reactions to like if they're gonna be on the board basically if like if they're gonna get cast in it and they're all panicking and everything and he's like reveling in it and it's so funny.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I can have not seen it.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_03: And then they did and then he came back to host it this year and he did another like an another version of it, and again he just like crushes it.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_03: He's like staring through the wall, but he's like inside the the poster like wicked, and you can just see his eyes.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_03: I've not seen it, I don't see it.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, it's funny.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_01: The the time when I thought I would I would lose my mind was when he did Talladega Nights.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_01: That's the one I don't like as much.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_01: I didn't like it as much as the others, and I think weirdly, I think like with Sasha Barron Cohen in it.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_01: I didn't even think about that.
- 1:06:51unknown: Huh?
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_03: I didn't even think about that.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_01: Because I was like, oh my god, it's two more heroes in the film, so I was really excited.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_01: Like the only scene that I really love from that film was when they're doing Grace.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_01: And they're talking about a seven-pound 12-ounce baby Jesus.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_01: And what I love about that is I love seeing the outtakes from Woolferrill films where because they're just like coming out with as many lines.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's just all improv.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_01: He's just like throwing just so good.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's something that people don't realise as well sometimes.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, some of the best lines you see are have been improvised.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_03: I've seen I've also seen like Adam McKay will sit on the side and just feed them lines.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_03: He'll just be like, try this, try this, try this.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_03: That's awesome.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_03: You just throw lines at them.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_01: I didn't know that about the um Will Farrell production company making succession.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_01: That is fucking amazing.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_03: It's great, isn't it?
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I love that.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, he's just they're they're just also great.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_03: And this is this is I would say this is my this and the other guys are my two favourites out of his.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_03: Oh, the Will Ferrell.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_03: I would put probably fair.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_01: I'll be happy with that.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_03: Anchorman I do love, but I feel like it just got too saturated.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_03: I just I just can't I can't go back to it.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_01: But would you when your kid is old enough, which Will Farrol film would you show them first?
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_01: Elf.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_01: Elf.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, of course, yeah.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, of course.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_01: That makes sense, yeah.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_03: Um Yeah, we tried to show um my partner's child elf a couple of years ago and she just did not get it.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_03: She was like four, she just was not into it.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's too early.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_03: And then we tried again last year and she was kind of more into it, but yeah.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_03: I think that's you've got to be ten or eleven.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_03: I think so, yeah.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_03: To enjoy that film.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_03: So I'll I'll probably wait a little bit for for my child.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_03: Um alright, so let's let's move on to I want to try this thing that I've been trying with the last couple of uh guests, which is a new a new game uh based on uh these other podcasters called Watch with Apollo.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_03: They do this game called Movie 501, which is you take the Rotten Tomato scores and you're getting from 501 down to zero by naming the films, and you're trying to do it in short as short amount of films as possible.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_03: And I'm gonna give you a category to name the films and like I don't know how you're gonna do because you said you're not good for films.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_01: No, I'm not.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna give you I'll make it broad so that it's a little bit easier then.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_03: Um we'll do we'll just do like let's just go with comedies then, just to make it easier for you.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_03: So the idea is I'll give I'll take note of the scores.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_03: So we've I've done it twice before.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_03: Uh one person did it in nine, the other person didn't couldn't finish it.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_01: So you I've got to go from 501 down to zero.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_01: And you're deducting the Ron Tomato score.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_03: You're trying to get the highest possible scores.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you want so you want the best, and then like you're gonna get down to the lower ones, and you want it, you can give like lower scores.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_03: And if you go bust, you just it doesn't matter, you just keep going.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_01: Keep going.
- 1:09:46unknown: Yeah.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_01: Fine.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_01: Okay, I see, okay.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_01: And I'm happy to try any film.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_01: I'm happy to try like.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean you can try.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_01: Can we do that?
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_01: What do you mean?
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_01: Like, uh it doesn't have to be comedy.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_03: Alright, because you don't because you're not good with yeah.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, okay, go on.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_03: I'll give you that.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_01: I'll give you it.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_01: So tell me when you're ready and I'll uh I'm gonna start with Parasite.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_03: Parasite is 99.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_03: That's a great start! That is a great start.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_03: You just gotta beat nine.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_01: Uh then I'm gonna go with Moonlight.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_01: He pretends he doesn't know about films.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_03: 98.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_00: Oh, it was a good start.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_03: Um you're on 197, so yeah.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_01: Uh then I'm gonna go with Kramer versus Kramer.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_00: One left field pick.
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_00: 90.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_00: Okay, then I'm gonna go with uh Love actually.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_03: That is 65.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_01: Not bad.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_01: So where where am I up to now?
- 1:10:59SPEAKER_03: So you've your score is 352.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_03: I thought you were at 501.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_03: Um you need 149 left.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_03: 149, okay.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_01: Uh I'm gonna go with uh let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_00: Interstellar.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_00: Way lower than I thought.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_00: 73.
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_03: That was level.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_03: 425.
- 1:11:37SPEAKER_03: So you need 75, 76 you've got left.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_03: And I've done five films.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you could easily do this.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_00: If you get a seven if you get a seventy-six out of this.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go with uh Anchorman.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_03: 66.
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_03: Oh, now you need a ten.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna get a ten though, am I?
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_03: You just gotta name a bad film.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_00: Are there tens?
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's loads.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_00: Okay, um you just gotta remember stuff from that list I sent you.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_01: Oh shit.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_01: Uh oh fuck.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_01: Um it's gonna be too high.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say super bad, but that's too high.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_01: You were gonna say super bad.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_01: That's a great film.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_01: Don't put it in.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_01: I'm not, I'm not.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_01: Um what is a really bad film that would get that would get 10 on Rotten Tomatoes?
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_01: Because that's what I'm going, I have to get 10, don't I?
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_01: Super Madden 88.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_01: Uh really bad.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_01: See, because I don't watch enough films, I don't know any of the really bad ones.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_03: Um, Yanis.
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_03: It's got you gotta think of like comedies.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_03: Comedies are always like really low.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_03: Just think of a bad comedy.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_01: Uh really bad see what I know good comedies, right?
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_01: Like Harold and Gumar.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_01: Um really bad comedy.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_00: Um Game to the Greek.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_03: I think it's gonna be too high.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_03: I think it's gonna be I think it's gonna be like 60 something.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_00: I guess.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_00: 72.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_00: No way, come on, Ishan.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_00: Bad comedy.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_00: Like two more.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_01: Two more guesses.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_01: I really want to do this.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_01: Because I've done so well.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_03: I think you you you have done really well.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_03: You've done six, if you get it in seven.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_00: It's hard.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because you're trying to get it.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_00: That last one is hard.
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_00: That last one is really hard.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_00: Come on.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_00: Um a really bad comedy that we pretend on rotten tomatoes.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_01: A really bad film that we pretend on Rotten Tomatoes.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_00: The sonic film.
- 1:14:03SPEAKER_01: Which one?
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_00: Oh god, are there multiple?
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_00: Yes, a few of them.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_00: The third one.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_00: The third one.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_00: 85%.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_00: Whoa!
- 1:14:18SPEAKER_03: I was not expecting that.
- 1:14:21SPEAKER_01: That was a good pick! Oh my god.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_00: Is it really?
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_00: Fast and Furious 7.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_00: I'm going for like sequels now.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_00: Deep sequels.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_01: 81.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_01: I don't believe this.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_01: This is fucking.
- 1:14:39SPEAKER_03: This is the one with Paul Walker when he died, though.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, right, okay, well done, you stupid idiot, Ishan.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_01: Uh do they do Bollywood films?
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_01: Uh you've got to think of a bad one though.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_01: I've got to think of a there's loads of bad ones, aren't there?
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_01: Um, I can't even think of one.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_00: Animal.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_00: 26.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_03: I'll give you a couple more because you want to go on Bollywood now.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_03: I've got a bust, haven't I?
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_03: You have, but I'll give you one.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_03: I'll give you like a couple.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_03: You can guess again.
- 1:15:13SPEAKER_01: Uh oh, Yannis, I can't think of any shit films that's that low.
- 1:15:18SPEAKER_03: You wanna g you wanna call it there?
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm gonna call it now.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_03: Alright, so you you did you did really well though.
- 1:15:23SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_03: Surprisingly.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_03: I thought you did better than I was expecting in the last time.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, I did better than I expected to.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_03: Alright, um, so yeah, you you end up so you now you're in second place out of the three that have done it so far.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_03: Stop.
- 1:15:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:15:39SPEAKER_03: I'll take because the last guess didn't get quite as low as that.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_03: Okay, so I've only had ten is the lowest.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_03: Is that yeah.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_03: You got ten left and you and you did it in like less guesses as well.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_03: Come on.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_03: Um, all right, so let's move on to the final segment, which is uh do you have I'm sure you've got one, but now based on everything we've talked about, but do you have a film that's uh widely loved and well reviewed?
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_03: Do you actually think it's a bad movie?
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_03: Uh probably Titanic.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_03: Titanic, yeah.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_01: Like maybe I was over-Titanic, a bit like with Anchorman.
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_01: When it came out, it came out in '97, was it?
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, 97.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_01: Um, it just felt like the whole world was obsessed with this film.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_03: They were, yeah.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_03: Well, it's the highest grossing film, it was the highest grossing film of all time.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_01: And then I watched it and I just found it like really infuriating, the whole film.
- 1:16:34SPEAKER_01: Uh the only bit I really enjoyed was when it was sinking, there was a bloke that bounced off one of the hulls.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, I remember that.
- 1:16:41SPEAKER_03: That's the only bit.
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_01: Of course you like that.
- 1:16:47SPEAKER_01: Stick.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_01: But the rest of it was like, there is space on the boat.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:16:51SPEAKER_01: Just let him join you.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_03: There is, definitely.
- 1:16:53SPEAKER_03: What you're doing.
- 1:16:53SPEAKER_03: I'm sure they didn't, I'm sure like mythbusters or something like that did a test and they were like, yeah, he could have stayed on.
- 1:16:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_01: But um, yeah, I just oh I like uh actually no, I like there's two scenes.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_01: That, the guy bouncing off.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_03: Oh, can I guess?
- 1:17:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_03: The scene where he paints her naked.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_01: Closely.
- 1:17:13SPEAKER_01: The hand on the window.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_01: And I kept recreating that in school with my mates.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_01: So we'd go our toilets in the in the in our in our six-room common room.
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_01: We had a corridor and they had the two the men, boys' toilets and the girl's toilets.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_01: And me and a few of the boys would go into the men's toilet, steam up the window, and put our hand on it, and just make really loud orgasm noises because we knew all the girls were sat there.
- 1:17:38SPEAKER_01: That was a source of great fun for me.
- 1:17:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:17:40SPEAKER_01: So it gave me those two moments.
- 1:17:42SPEAKER_01: That's such a secondary school thing to age boy.
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so funny.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_01: Um, but the film itself I thought was actually not good.
- 1:17:50SPEAKER_03: Right, okay.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_03: What do you not like about it then?
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_03: I think other than it being like over oversaturated.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_01: Oversaturated.
- 1:17:59SPEAKER_01: I think I kind of knew what was gonna happen.
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_01: It was like too much of a spoiler, early door.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:18:08SPEAKER_01: And early doors, and I feel like because we knew what was going to happen.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:18:16SPEAKER_01: And there are films, of course, where you know what's gonna happen.
- 1:18:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I think the way they got to that point was just really predictable, and I think it would have been nice to have like another perspective instead of a love story, yeah, to tell the story of the Titanic.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_01: I agree with that.
- 1:18:30SPEAKER_01: Uh like maybe if the film was like about the workers right at the bottom, so much better.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_01: It's so immediately so much more interesting.
- 1:18:40SPEAKER_01: Because now you're more invested in the screen like they don't know what's about to happen.
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_01: Whereas fucking Kate Winslet and Leonardo Capro maybe fucking or whatever.
- 1:18:47SPEAKER_01: It's like, I don't care about this.
- 1:18:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:18:49SPEAKER_01: Who gives a shit?
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_01: Who gives a shit?
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:18:51SPEAKER_01: So that's what I think.
- 1:18:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I actually agree with you.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_03: I I think it's the I think it's okay.
- 1:18:57SPEAKER_03: I never, I was never like, oh, I like I really like this movie.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_03: But I was also like eight when it came out.
- 1:19:03SPEAKER_03: So you know, I would have seen it when I was probably like 10.
- 1:19:07SPEAKER_01: I also I think would have loved the film if we didn't see the sinking at all, but you saw the story of people in Southampton and people in America waiting for their family.
- 1:19:13SPEAKER_01: Oh, like that would have been That's an interesting perspective, on it.
- 1:19:16SPEAKER_01: Like where you don't really see what happens on the boat.
- 1:19:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:19:20SPEAKER_01: Because all the opulence on the boat, we all know we had this information available to us.
- 1:19:23SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:19:23SPEAKER_01: We knew this.
- 1:19:24SPEAKER_01: We knew that.
- 1:19:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:19:25SPEAKER_01: But the stories of like what a huge ambitious project it was, what the people in New York were hoping for, what was going on in Southampton, you know, that would have been so much more interesting.
- 1:19:35SPEAKER_01: That's that's interesting.
- 1:19:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:19:37SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 1:19:37SPEAKER_01: He's a film director now.
- 1:19:42SPEAKER_03: Oh, that's yeah.
- 1:19:43SPEAKER_01: I agree, I would like that.
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_01: You like right?
- 1:19:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:19:46SPEAKER_01: Because if if you saw, like from the New York perspective of these guys going, Oh, my family are coming over on this huge boat called the Titanic.
- 1:19:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:19:53SPEAKER_01: And we see all the plans they're making, how excited they are.
- 1:19:57SPEAKER_03: Because it's not, it's also not a thing where they would have found out immediately.
- 1:20:01SPEAKER_01: No, and the news, yeah, how it would have filtered through to them.
- 1:20:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:20:04SPEAKER_01: And the devastation of that sinking on that working class family in New York or the people that built it in Southampton.
- 1:20:15SPEAKER_01: Put all those places together.
- 1:20:18SPEAKER_01: See?
- 1:20:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:20:19SPEAKER_01: This is what you gotta make.
- 1:20:21SPEAKER_01: This is what I've got to make.
- 1:20:22SPEAKER_01: Don't fucking steal the idea.
- 1:20:23SPEAKER_01: Copyright Ishan Akbar.
- 1:20:25SPEAKER_01: I'm a creative genius, baby.
- 1:20:28SPEAKER_01: Or even a comedy of Will Farrell on the Titanic.
- 1:20:31SPEAKER_01: A comedy of Will Ferrell on the Titanic would be great.
- 1:20:34SPEAKER_01: That would be so much funnier.
- 1:20:35SPEAKER_01: It'd be so good.
- 1:20:36SPEAKER_01: He's the guy bouncing off the bouncing off, just having a great time.
- 1:20:40SPEAKER_01: This is fucking sick.
- 1:20:41SPEAKER_01: Doing mad shit on the He takes one of the rafts.
- 1:20:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:20:45SPEAKER_01: He survives.
- 1:20:46SPEAKER_01: Of course he's he would survive, yeah.
- 1:20:48SPEAKER_01: Him and John T.
- 1:20:48SPEAKER_01: Riley are the only ones that survive.
- 1:20:50SPEAKER_01: They accidentally fall into a raft and like they actually fall into a raft, they survive, and they suddenly then over the years set up a production company that makes all these amazing comedy films.
- 1:20:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:21:00SPEAKER_02: Great.
- 1:21:01SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 1:21:01SPEAKER_01: There you go.

- 1:21:18SPEAKER_01: Everyone's being so nice.
- 1:21:19SPEAKER_01: And it's this boat that we need you to get on.
- 1:21:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:21:21SPEAKER_01: Uh well, sort of stop the boats.
- 1:21:23SPEAKER_01: Um but uh I uh say a boat.
- 1:21:31SPEAKER_01: I'm the one screen going, stop this boat.
