- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to the High Level Wife Podcast.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: I'm Chelsea Holm, your hostess, and here we do marriage God's way.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: That means right biblical order and being tender, tenacious, and taking back territory that the enemy has stolen.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: So today I wanted to share a little insight with you of how I study God's word and specifically pray his word back to him.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: Because this has been such a powerful tool for me.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, for the longest time, I wouldn't just get in God's word and really just read it.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Like I had to do some sort of like Bible study that would lead me through and ask me questions and think about things, right?
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: But like I I wasn't or I didn't take the initiative to trust that God's word is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: And then I have the Holy Spirit in me, giving me wisdom and insight and understanding into the Father's heart.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: And I didn't understand that I have his written word to teach and to train and to correct, right?
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: To challenge me and to um pill me with proper training in righteousness, right?
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: That that I would be a woman of God that is competent, equipped for every good work.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Okay, so I actually just gave you an example of how I pray.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Um, so I'm sitting here, I have my Bible open on my lap.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Um, and lately I've been so our church is studying psalms, it's summer psalm series, and it all starts with a PS.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: It's kind of funny, it's ridiculously uh ridiculous, but it is funny.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: So we've been uh reading psalms together as a congregation.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Um, and so I just I always love psalms because psalms is actually what I read when I was back in high school when I really fully stepped into my faith.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: When I when God challenged me and spoke to me, like you probably think this is ridiculous, and everyone else did too, but it was the Lord.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: I was sitting in a chapel.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: We had chapel every Wednesday.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: I went to a Christian school.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: It was my dad's Christian school, he was the principal.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Um, I was a junior, I think I was a junior in high school, or maybe I was a senior in high school.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: I can't even remember, but it doesn't matter.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Um I was sitting in that chapel.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: I have no idea who was speaking.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: I have no idea to this day what he said, but what I respond, what I heard in my spirit and responded with was that Jesus was calling me out of seeking boys invalidation and was calling me to seek him.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: Bottom line up front, that's what it was.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: And I started going to work with my dad early in the morning because we would like leave at like 5:30 in the morning or something, and we would be at school for you know several hours before before the school day started.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: And so I would sit outside.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Well, I should tell you.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: So I actually, after that chapel, I went to the my boyfriend at the time and I said, Um, I'm sorry, we have to end this.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: I'm dating Jesus now.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: And I'll tell you what, that was in the moment, it was an obedience, it was radical obedience.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: Um, and also it threw me into the midst of a lot of scorn and misunderstanding and judgment, um, and a lot of lies about me, and a lot of really just being cast out, essentially.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: And I had a class of 19, so yeah, there you go, right?
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Like I was there was this group, um, and they just thankfully, okay, I will tell you, fast forward, this gorilla and I, we are friends now, but then because she had an interest in him, and then they started dating shortly after, like it was just dragging my name through the mud and muck.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: And it was unfortunate.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: And I felt very alone.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: I did have um two really close friends at the time, and uh they also seemed to be tossed into the drama a lot.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Um, and so we really bonded and sought the Lord together during that time.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: And I remember crying in my dad's office one day.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: You know, it's the benefits of being the principal's kid.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: I got to go sit in his office, but I remember crying to him and saying, I thought that high school was supposed to be the best years of your life.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: And he just looked at me and smiled with that twinkle in his eye as he does.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: If, you know, I would love if you would know my dad.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: He's he's a man of God.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: I love him.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: He changed the path of our family.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: He was a first generation believer.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: It always overwhelms me to think about that because now I look at my kids and they're third generation believers.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: Like, it's amazing.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Um, anyway, but he looked at me with that twinkle in his eye and that smile on his face, and he said, Oh, honey, not even close, you know, and he called it out that that's a lie that the world tells you um that gets you to seek after all these worldly things, but it'll leave you high and dry.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Um, and I just remember like wiping my tears away and dusting myself off and just feeling so so strengthened in the Lord and in my faith and in that resolution to seek him first.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: And so I would sit outside in these early hours of the morning on the climbing, one of those dome climbing things.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: Um, and I would just pour through the psalms.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: And so now here I am studying it with my church, with our body of believers, right?
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: The local congregation.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: And um yeah, it's just amazing.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: So I use those psalms are a great place to start to actually pray what you're reading.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: So I will give you an example.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: So today I was reading uh Psalm 117 and specifically 118.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: And so it looks like give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: And so I'm like, Lord, I give you thanks, for you are good.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: And it says, for his steadfast love endures forever.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: God, your steadfast love endures forever.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: Goes on, let Israel say, let the house of Aaron say, let those who fear the Lord say, His steadfast love endures forever.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: And so I'll say, Lord, me and my house, we say, your steadfast love endures forever.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: Lord, I fear you, and I declare your steadfast love endures forever.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: Goes on, out of my distress, I called on the Lord, and the Lord answered me and set me free through this current journey we're walking through with moving to Kentucky and just as I said, big faith and belief and radical obedience, just praying that back like Lord, I have been so distressed at points, and I have called out to you, and you are so good.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: You answered me and you've set me free.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Going on, the Lord is on my side, Lord, you are on my side.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: I will not fear.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: I say that straight up.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: I will not fear because what can man do to me?
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: Nothing, Lord.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: The Lord is on my side as my helper.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: God, you are on my side as my helper.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: I look in triumph on those who would hate me.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: Okay, so that's just a little brief taste of the Psalms and how I pray that back to God.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: So let's fast forward to New Testament here today.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: So I was in, I'm in 2 Timothy.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: I just finished 1 Timothy, I'm in 2 Timothy now.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Um, and so it looks like oh, where is it?
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Where are you?
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: There we're somebody.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: Oh, I'm in the wrong spot.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: So, one thing you should know about me, I've had the same Bible since since I was in high school.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: It's been rebound.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: Um, but when my kids were very little, they ripped out James.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: So now I actually I printed pages for James, the book of James, and I taped it into my Bible.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: So my Bible's a hot mess, but I love it because it shows my growth and seeking the Lord over decades now.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: So in 2 Timothy, right?
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: Like uh I'm I was reading chapter two today, and so prayer through this looks like um so starting in verse 14, remind them of these things and charge them before God, not to quarrel about words which does no good but only ruins the hearer.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: And then it says, do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handing the word of truth.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: And so my prayer for that looks like Lord, I present myself to you as one approved by you.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: You chose me to do this.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: You chose me as a worker who I have no need to be ashamed.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: Holy Spirit, help me to rightly handle the word of truth in everything I do, and especially in high-level wife.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: Help me, continue none, but avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: Spirit, help me to avoid irreverent babble, that I may never lead people into more and more ungodliness, and that their talk will spread like gangrene.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: Never let gangrene through their talk spread in high-level wife, right?
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: And so then he mentions these two people that swerve from the truth, right?
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: Um, and he's talking about that, and you know, just continuing to pray through this as if it's my own, as it like my response to the written word forms my prayers.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: So I wanted to read this to you.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: I started by mentioning here about you know, God's word, that in chapter three of 2 Timothy, verse 16, all scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training and righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: So, my prayer from that is God, all of your scripture is breathed out by you.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: So use it to profit me and teach me, use it to reprove me, use it to correct me, use it to train me in righteousness, that I may be your daughter, God, who is competent, equipped for every good work.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: So I hope this encourages you.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: If you don't know how to pray, if you don't understand that the Bible we have is God's written word.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: It is his written word that he has given us to teach us, to reprove us, to correct us, to train us in righteousness.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: Okay, and that it teaches us how to recognize and hear God speaking today.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: Because we have the written word, right?
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: The words that he specifically chose to be written down for us to read, to help us to know him, to know his voice, that when he speaks today to us, we recognize his voice and we respond.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: So may your prayers be shaped by his written word so that you know and acknowledge and obey his spoken word also to you today.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: I will see you on the next episode.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: Bye.
