- 0:15SPEAKER_03: I mean he made a big one of the Eagles run with my main ball team out.
- 0:18SPEAKER_04: Oh, Jalen Hurts, my boy.
- 0:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I told you that guy sucks.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Hey, Hollywood go! Go.
- 0:30SPEAKER_03: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Mike Blitz.
- 0:32SPEAKER_03: I'm your host, Mike Wade, my co-host, South Britain over there, Mike White.
- 0:36SPEAKER_03: Happy Wednesday, dude.
- 0:37SPEAKER_03: What's going on?
- 0:37SPEAKER_03: Happy home day.
- 0:39SPEAKER_03: Happy Wednesday.
- 0:40SPEAKER_04: Happy winter time.
- 0:41SPEAKER_04: It's officially cold out.
- 0:43SPEAKER_03: It is it's true.
- 0:44SPEAKER_03: It is officially cold.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: Uh leaves are falling everywhere.
- 0:48SPEAKER_03: Virginia is beautiful.
- 0:49SPEAKER_03: The foliage, all the things.
- 0:51SPEAKER_03: I spend a lot of time with my leaves.
- 0:52SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, foliage is gone, my man.
- 0:54SPEAKER_03: It's on the ground.
- 0:55SPEAKER_03: Foliage is gone.
- 0:56SPEAKER_03: Um uh it's been a while since we talked last week.
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: Um, what's new with you in the last uh seven days of your life?
- 1:02SPEAKER_04: Oh man, I can't even remember what happened yesterday.
- 1:05SPEAKER_04: Uh what did we do over the weekend?
- 1:06SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 1:07SPEAKER_04: We had I think we had a pretty chill Saturday.
- 1:09SPEAKER_04: I got to watch a decent amount of football more than usual.
- 1:12SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, I don't know, man.
- 1:14SPEAKER_04: Things are flying by.
- 1:16SPEAKER_04: I think.
- 1:17SPEAKER_03: I was I was just telling Anna like a minute ago, I was like, I cannot believe it's already Wednesday.
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: It feels like it feels like this is getting faster and faster.
- 1:23SPEAKER_03: I didn't do much either.
- 1:24SPEAKER_03: You know, both of our games that were at were at noon, you know, Tennessee and LSU played at noon, got the win, solid dubs.
- 1:29SPEAKER_03: Um, so it was like kind of nice to just like hang out the rest of the day.
- 1:32SPEAKER_03: And it's like, well, I got my win.
- 1:33SPEAKER_03: Now I'm just gonna there were still some good games.
- 1:35SPEAKER_03: And there was still yeah, and there was still some ammo left in the day to kind of fun and watch.
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: It's you know, I I LSU obviously plays better at night, so I always want it to be nighttime like for the just the experience of the LSU game.
- 1:45SPEAKER_04: But it's definitely more fun to like have that all day and then yeah, you know, have that seven o'clock, you know, end your day with a long game.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: I'm with you, but I don't yeah, I but you know, I obviously the bit all the Big Ten teams do this, and some ACC teams too.
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: Like, I there's some of them love the noon kickoff, so I I could see some, it's not for me, but I don't I don't mind as a changeup, is kind of what I'm going for.
- 2:06SPEAKER_04: I don't love it for a big game, but rarely are we having big games at noon.
- 2:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so we didn't do anything either.
- 2:12SPEAKER_03: I do have to tell you the story though.
- 2:13SPEAKER_03: So um we still have like tons of Halloween candy, like tons and tons of Halloween candy, and I'm already putting like the dad tax on my kids' stuff.
- 2:21SPEAKER_03: Like they're in like like 40% bracket.
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: Like every time they take a piece, I take two.
- 2:26SPEAKER_03: Like I'm I'm trying my hardest to get it.
- 2:28SPEAKER_03: Oh, well, you gotta check it for razor blades and clearly poison tests, all that all that stuff, but I'm still taking too much of it.
- 2:35SPEAKER_03: Um, I've gotten caught no less than like seven or eight times by my children stealing their Halloween candy.
- 2:41SPEAKER_03: And I get caught the same way all the time.
- 2:43SPEAKER_03: What I do is I'm just like so lazy.
- 2:45SPEAKER_03: I'll eat a piece of Halloween candy and I'll leave the wrapper in the top of the trash can, like right near the center of the kitchen, like a Reese's wrapper or a Twix or something.
- 2:54SPEAKER_03: Two days ago, my son, my four-year-old son, he'll be five next month, uh, came into my room at 7:30 in the morning.
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: I was asleep.
- 3:01SPEAKER_03: Anna tends to get up before I do, so I suppose we stick around in bed for a couple minutes.
- 3:04SPEAKER_03: I was in sleep.
- 3:05SPEAKER_03: He's holding a wrapper in his hand at the first thing awake in the morning.
- 3:09SPEAKER_03: Dad, where did this come from?
- 3:11SPEAKER_03: This is my four-year-old, right when I wake up, he is grilling me about the Twix bar.
- 3:17SPEAKER_04: Did the thought go through your head to just boom, blame Lena?
- 3:20SPEAKER_04: It was your sister.
- 3:23SPEAKER_03: I the problem is I've like, I don't I don't have a scape anymore, so I've already been caught like so many times.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: Anna even says to me, like tonight, she was like, You've got an MO.
- 3:30SPEAKER_03: You're literally like your column card.
- 3:32SPEAKER_03: Tonight Anna even said to me, she's like, put the candy in the trash.
- 3:35SPEAKER_03: Like, actually hide it this time, you idiot.
- 3:37SPEAKER_03: Like, I've gotten caught by my children so.
- 3:40SPEAKER_03: I gotta tell you how unnerving is just be grailed by a four-year-old and not have anything.
- 3:44SPEAKER_04: Like 7:30 in the morning.
- 3:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, 7 30 in the morning.
- 3:47SPEAKER_03: Literally, the first thing your eyes woke up, and you're just like, I, I, I, you're it's like it's like the it's like you know you're you're being interrogated by the cops that lights on you.
- 3:54SPEAKER_03: Did you try to convince him that he ate it?
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: I literally, I literally said, I don't know.
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: I don't know how that got there, which is just the worst possible answer ever.
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: So oh god, that's what I'm doing with right now.
- 4:07SPEAKER_03: I was trying to get it.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: That's good.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: I like that.
- 4:09SPEAKER_03: That's pretty good.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: Hopefully be out hopefully be out of Halloween candy by Christmas.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: That's the goal, I guess.
- 4:14SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 4:15SPEAKER_03: Anyway, uh, what do you what you drinking?
- 4:17SPEAKER_03: What you got, what you got over there?
- 4:18SPEAKER_04: So I had a um a gingerbread stout, which uh is a season, a fantastic, yep, Hardywood this time of year.
- 4:26SPEAKER_04: My favorite, I love when they get into the like bourbon barrel, the the Christmas morning, all that stuff.
- 4:32SPEAKER_04: Um, but I didn't want to have another one of those because it's just too sweet.
- 4:36SPEAKER_04: So I switched to uh my oldie but goody, always stocked in my fridge, the fear movie lions from Stone.
- 4:43SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, had it on the pod all the time just because it's just what I always have, and really my favorite, favorite beer.
- 4:49SPEAKER_03: So hey man, I'm I'm I'm a big believer, and if you like it, then you should drink it.
- 4:52SPEAKER_03: There's no there's no rules and there's no rules in this game.
- 4:55SPEAKER_03: You're too you're too old to drink beer, you don't like it.
- 4:57SPEAKER_04: It's a hazy double, it's a cheap six-pack of pints.
- 5:01SPEAKER_03: That's that is that is nice because those all these these hazy doubles that we like to chase are not always cheap.
- 5:07SPEAKER_04: It's like 12 bucks for a six-pack.
- 5:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's that's about that's about my price point these days as well.
- 5:12SPEAKER_03: I'm drinking um actually another another Sierra Nevada.
- 5:14SPEAKER_03: I think I might have had this one.
- 5:15SPEAKER_03: Liquid hoppiness, 7% juicy IPA, you know.
- 5:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you're on that on that tip.
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: I am on the Sierra Nevada.
- 5:21SPEAKER_03: I mean, honestly, ever since your wedding a couple years ago, when we visited the Sierra Nevada brewery in Asheville, I just look at I've always liked Sierra Nevada, it's always been a good brewery.
- 5:29SPEAKER_03: But ever since then, when I saw them up close and personal, and I tried the 30 Sierra Nevadas that nobody knows they have unless you go to that place, um, they're just good.
- 5:38SPEAKER_03: And they're just so I've I've looked at Sierra Nevada in a whole new light.
- 5:40SPEAKER_03: So I think I think I think what I need to do next is go to Stone and check out that FML because I don't have that yet.
- 5:45SPEAKER_03: Um that's that's on my list, though.
- 5:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's solid.
- 5:48SPEAKER_04: Do you know the story behind that?
- 5:49SPEAKER_03: Uh I mean the FML.
- 5:51SPEAKER_03: I mean, I know what that means.
- 5:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so um that's like it's like a geotag thing, it's like an an exact location.
- 5:58SPEAKER_04: Every location is given like a tag.
- 6:00SPEAKER_04: All right, and um, based on the crosshairs of where their Richmond brewery is, um, it's fear movie lines is like the Richmond Brewery.
- 6:12SPEAKER_04: Something like that.
- 6:13SPEAKER_04: Look it up.
- 6:14SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 6:14SPEAKER_04: It's not verbatim, but close enough for our purposes.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: Googleable.
- 6:19SPEAKER_03: Googlable.
- 6:19SPEAKER_03: Very cool, very cool.
- 6:21SPEAKER_03: FML and liquid hoppiness.
- 6:23SPEAKER_03: Uh, so as we all as you know, we can start all of our shows.
- 6:25SPEAKER_03: We start with the news.
- 6:26SPEAKER_03: Um, of course, uh, unfortunately, the news this week um is terribly, terribly sad.
- 6:31SPEAKER_03: I'm sure all of you who are listening already know.
- 6:33SPEAKER_03: Um, a former UVA uh student, um uh former player in 2018, um uh by the name of Christopher Darnell Jones, allegedly shot and killed three fellow UVA uh football players late Sunday night, at least early in the morning.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: Um, Lavelle Davis Jr., Deshaun Perry, and uh the other and uh Devin Chandler.
- 6:56SPEAKER_03: Um UVA, it's just it's been really reeling, it's been really tragic, awful, awful, awful situation.
- 7:01SPEAKER_03: Um Mike and I talked about before the pie out of respect.
- 7:04SPEAKER_03: We are not gonna talk about UVA football uh last week or this this coming week.
- 7:09SPEAKER_03: Um it just feels trivial to Mike and I, given the light on just the weight of what's happened.
- 7:14SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, those are three sons, brothers, cousins, those are three films that are that are just devastated by just horrific, horrific loss.
- 7:22SPEAKER_03: And um, Mike and I's thoughts and prayers go out to them and all the Wahoo Nation UVA, and just know that we are sending them our love right now.
- 7:31SPEAKER_03: And you know, Charlotte's food is only an hour away from us.
- 7:33SPEAKER_03: And Mike and I know a lot of UVA people, and a lot of UVA people are in that whole community, and those families are really, really hurting.
- 7:38SPEAKER_03: And um we love you guys, and we are we're just we're so sorry.
- 7:43SPEAKER_03: And it's just so we're so for those reasons, we are um we're not gonna talk about UVA football because it just doesn't feel right, Ty.
- 7:50SPEAKER_03: That's that's all I think that's all I have to say.
- 7:51SPEAKER_03: Mike, what do you think?
- 7:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's it's obviously a terrible tragedy, and rivalries are fun, and college football is a lot of fun, but this is something that uh obviously is much bigger than um you know a UVA Virginia Tech rivalry.
- 8:04SPEAKER_04: Everybody right now is kind of wrapping their arms around the UVA community, and um, so yeah, we just send our thoughts and prayers to uh all of our UVA brethren and listeners, and um yeah.
- 8:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's it.
- 8:19SPEAKER_04: I think so too.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: Good stuff.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: Uh awesome.
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: So we're gonna start uh this week, like we always start start from the top, and we're gonna review obviously last week's action.
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: Uh Georgia, number one, Georgia, number one, Georgia, uh 45, uh, number night 19, Mississippi State.
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: This game was interesting in half, uh, 17 to 12.
- 8:34SPEAKER_03: I think Mississippi State got a special teams punt return.
- 8:37SPEAKER_03: Uh kick, I think it was, or some some big play end of the second to give to make it kind of close.
- 8:42SPEAKER_03: Interesting in the half.
- 8:43SPEAKER_03: And then uh Georgia did Georgia things, scored 28 points uh seven, and won 45-19.
- 8:49SPEAKER_03: Uh, this team is just like an it's like an Anaconda.
- 8:52SPEAKER_03: It feels like you get a little bit of life and just slowly just grinds competition out.
- 8:55SPEAKER_03: This is another week of that, frankly.
- 8:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it is.
- 8:58SPEAKER_04: It's a lot like the Jennifer Lopez IST movie Anaconda.
- 9:02SPEAKER_04: It's a lot like that.
- 9:03SPEAKER_02: Snakes out there this big.
- 9:05SPEAKER_04: It's the only one I've ever got.
- 9:07SPEAKER_04: That's all you need to know.
- 9:08SPEAKER_04: Um I watched this game and it was kind of interesting for the first half.
- 9:13SPEAKER_04: Um I can't get past snakes out there this big.
- 9:17SPEAKER_04: Um uh, but this is another example of Georgia kind of I don't know, looking a little sleepy for not big opponents.
- 9:27SPEAKER_04: Um just like their Missouri game, just like the Kent State game, it just seems like they're bored.
- 9:33SPEAKER_04: They're a little bored with these games that um they know they can win by however many points they want.
- 9:40SPEAKER_04: Um, so I'm interested to see if they approach Kentucky in you know, Kroger aisle five field.
- 9:49SPEAKER_04: Um Kroger Stadium.
- 9:52SPEAKER_04: That'll be interesting to see.
- 9:53SPEAKER_04: I mean, they might play with Kentucky for a little while.
- 9:56SPEAKER_04: Um, Kentucky's season has not gone the way that they wanted, but this obviously could make the season for them if they were to pull off this monumental upstead.
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: You know, a team like George is gonna give everyone's best shot every week.
- 10:08SPEAKER_03: Kentucky's gonna do it, and Kentucky allegedly has an NFL quarterback.
- 10:10SPEAKER_03: I keep hearing about it, I haven't seen him play like one in a long time, but apparently I have a great stat for you.
- 10:16SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm sure you do.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: Uh, so I mean, we'll talk about George Kentucky in a little bit, but Mississippi State obviously didn't have it, and I they knew that.
- 10:24SPEAKER_03: Um, a lot of cowbells.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: This game was hard to watch.
- 10:26SPEAKER_03: The cowbells are insanely loud at this game.
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: I know Anna hates the cowbells.
- 10:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, my wife was watching this game with me, so what is that noise?
- 10:33SPEAKER_03: I'm like, oh, they just bring cowbells.
- 10:35SPEAKER_03: Those of you who don't know, Mississippi State and Starkville, they literally have a tradition, I don't know how far it goes back, but they literally all their fans bring cowbells.
- 10:41SPEAKER_03: There's like strict rules in about noisemakers.
- 10:43SPEAKER_03: And it's just against the rules in every SEC, and I think every college football stadium, and the lone exception is Mississippi State.
- 10:50SPEAKER_03: They're allowed to bring cowbells to the game, and man, are they loud.
- 10:54SPEAKER_03: Um, makes no sense.
- 10:55SPEAKER_03: Didn't matter.
- 10:56SPEAKER_04: Um, what's your take on the cowbells?
- 10:57SPEAKER_04: I know we're gonna have plenty of time, so because we don't have a great slate of games.
- 11:01SPEAKER_04: Do you like the cowbells?
- 11:03SPEAKER_03: My take is well, two takes.
- 11:04SPEAKER_03: One, if I was a if I was an old Miss fan, I would hate it with a fiery passion.
- 11:08SPEAKER_03: If I was a Mississippi State fan, I would love it.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: As an impartial observer, I think it's cool because it's a it's it's it's it's like a trad anything that college football has, it's like kind of a quirky tradition, like these stat like these games with goofy trophies or a special walkout or a special song that they were doing like back in the 40s.
- 11:26SPEAKER_03: Like, I appreciate that sort of thing.
- 11:28SPEAKER_03: So for the sake of tradition, and it kind of gives Mississippi State this like kind of cool thing.
- 11:33SPEAKER_03: And every now and then you'll see a Mississippi State fan who has a cowbell like on in their in their uh TV room.
- 11:39SPEAKER_03: Like I'm I like it in that regard.
- 11:42SPEAKER_03: I hate playing against it once a year.
- 11:45SPEAKER_03: So once every other year, when the LSU goes to Starkville, I hate playing against it.
- 11:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 11:49SPEAKER_04: If Mississippi State were a football juggernaut, it would be like the entire football world saying this is something that we have to do away with.
- 11:58SPEAKER_04: Because they're kind of the plucky upstart, you know, they have a good year every once in a while.
- 12:03SPEAKER_04: You know, we'll allow it.
- 12:05SPEAKER_04: Um, so yeah, it's just one of those things that's unique to them and part of the unique culture that they have in Starkville.
- 12:11SPEAKER_04: Um I would hate it every four years when we play them in Starkville or whatever, but yeah.
- 12:20SPEAKER_03: It's not great.
- 12:21SPEAKER_03: For now, it's fine.
- 12:22SPEAKER_03: But for now it's fine.
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: Uh number two, uh Ohio State uh beat the brakes off of the Hoosiers.
- 12:27SPEAKER_03: Uh 56 uh 14.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: Very impressive game.
- 12:30SPEAKER_03: Um obviously they continue to roll up huge on offense.
- 12:34SPEAKER_03: Um, really, really, really impressive uh what what they're doing.
- 12:37SPEAKER_03: I they are they are they they are heading for a crash course towards uh Michigan.
- 12:43SPEAKER_03: They got to get a little bit healthier.
- 12:44SPEAKER_03: They've got a lot of guys who were out.
- 12:46SPEAKER_03: I think they lost another running back in this game.
- 12:48SPEAKER_03: Um, so we're I'd like to see what happens there.
- 12:50SPEAKER_03: But um, I mean Ohio State's gonna do Ohio State.
- 12:53SPEAKER_03: And I think I think this really says more about the Tom Allen, his time, and um the coach of Indiana.
- 12:58SPEAKER_03: I think he's probably about done.
- 13:00SPEAKER_03: I can't imagine he's gonna have much much left here.
- 13:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I don't have much to say about that, uh, other than I don't know that Indiana's quick to pull the trigger.
- 13:49SPEAKER_04: You know, their their football program is not they don't have high expectations.
- 13:55SPEAKER_04: We'll just say that.
- 13:56SPEAKER_04: So you know, I don't I don't know what to expect there, but yeah, Ohio State continues to roll.
- 14:01SPEAKER_03: They had a big year, they had a big year when that Michael Penix, who's now the quarterback of Washington, you know, I think and I think that kind of adjusted some things, but they seem like they've regressed back to kind of Big Ten or whipping boys.
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: And that's just it's just um not good.
- 14:13SPEAKER_03: One thing I will say about this game, uh, do you see a story about Cameron Babb, this receiver?
- 14:17SPEAKER_03: Uh this guy, his former former former five-star receiver.
- 14:21SPEAKER_03: He's torn his ACL four times.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, caught a five.
- 14:25SPEAKER_03: Four times.
- 14:26SPEAKER_03: Caught a touchdown pass, first of his Ohio State career.
- 14:28SPEAKER_03: Ohio State uh players all rallied around him, uh, made a big moment of it.
- 14:33SPEAKER_03: Really, really awesome.
- 14:34SPEAKER_03: I'm no Ohio State fan, but that's you just love to see it.
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: That kid worked I don't I don't know how many hundreds, thousands of hours of rehab to do that four times is devastating to get out there and to score in the shoe.
- 14:46SPEAKER_04: That's what college football is all about.
- 14:48SPEAKER_04: I mean, that's one of the things that makes it great.
- 14:50SPEAKER_04: For all of the people that say, you know, you've got these meaningless games, you've got Cupgate games, all we want to talk about is the playoff.
- 14:57SPEAKER_04: The only thing that matters is, you know, the the championship, or this is college football at you know, at its finest.
- 15:04SPEAKER_04: These are the stories, those fluff pieces on college game day Saturday morning, every other clip.
- 15:11SPEAKER_04: That's what it's all about.
- 15:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, love to see it.
- 15:14SPEAKER_03: Really happy for the kid.
- 15:15SPEAKER_03: Um, good for him.
- 15:16SPEAKER_03: Uh, let's keep it rolling.
- 15:18SPEAKER_03: Um, what's the more interesting one?
- 15:20SPEAKER_03: Uh, let's do number four TCU, number 18 Texas.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: TCU wins 17 to 10, went into Austin, and beat the Longhorns in what was gotta be one of the ugliest performances out of a Texas offense I've ever seen.
- 15:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I was shocked.
- 15:37SPEAKER_04: I kept thinking that Texas would turn it on or find a way to score.
- 15:41SPEAKER_04: Quinn Ewers did nothing, Dijon Robinson did nothing.
- 15:45SPEAKER_04: It was I think it was a combination of both TCU playing really, really good football and Texas just continuing to do this Jekyll and Hyde, you know, look great one day, look terrible the other day.
- 15:59SPEAKER_04: I mean, Quinn Ewers is still a freshman, so cut him some slack.
- 16:04SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 16:04SPEAKER_04: I definitely, you know, you forget that because how much he's been talked about for the past year.
- 16:09SPEAKER_04: But um, you ex you would expect more from Steve Sarkeesian um to dial up something.
- 16:17SPEAKER_03: Texas is a good offensive line.
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: They went 22 carries for 28 yards.
- 16:21SPEAKER_03: Like that's just with an all-American running back against TCU.
- 16:25SPEAKER_03: The best running back in the country, right?
- 16:26SPEAKER_03: Best running back in the country.
- 16:28SPEAKER_03: But I guess I guess I guess we now we're buying, you know, I I I've been saying this podcast for the last two or three weeks, I don't think TCU is that good.
- 16:35SPEAKER_03: TCU actually might be that good, especially with the deep with that with the way their defense played.
- 16:39SPEAKER_03: And the funny thing is, this score was 17-10.
- 16:41SPEAKER_03: It had no business being 17-10.
- 16:44SPEAKER_03: The score was 17-3 late in the fourth, and the center score.
- 16:48SPEAKER_03: The center for TCU uh spikes uh hikes the ball over the uh Max Duggan, the TCU quarterback's head.
- 16:54SPEAKER_03: He runs back, tries to get it, he falls on it, it scores out.
- 16:57SPEAKER_03: Texas linebacker picks it up, scoop and score, touchdown.
- 17:00SPEAKER_03: That was it.
- 17:00SPEAKER_03: That and a field goal was their only offense for 60 minutes at home.
- 17:04SPEAKER_03: It so it looked like a seven-point game.
- 17:06SPEAKER_03: It was not a seven-point game.
- 17:08SPEAKER_03: Like at no point did Texas seem like they had a chance.
- 17:12SPEAKER_03: For me, the big takeaway of all the things was um, and this is an interesting part because uh Arch Manning was in the stands.
- 17:18SPEAKER_03: Quinn Ewers, like I I know he's a true freshman, I get all that, but he's gotta look better than 17 for 39 for 10.
- 17:26SPEAKER_03: Like, and then you, I mean, you watched my eyeballs weren't lying to me.
- 17:28SPEAKER_03: Like he was making bad throws, just missing guys.
- 17:31SPEAKER_04: He was making bad throws, but I also don't think that hexas had a very good game plan coming into the game just because of what you said.
- 17:41SPEAKER_04: He threw the ball 39 times in a game where Texas's defense only allowed 17 points.
- 17:46SPEAKER_04: They only ran B.
- 17:47SPEAKER_04: John Robinson 12 times.
- 17:49SPEAKER_04: 12.
- 17:50SPEAKER_04: That's it.
- 17:50SPEAKER_04: That's the best player on your team.
- 17:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's interesting to see Texas so good.
- 17:54SPEAKER_03: And their defense.
- 17:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they're and they were fired up.
- 17:57SPEAKER_03: I mean, they I was I I watched that game for a while, and they they're I can't remember the last time I saw a good Texas defense, frankly.
- 18:03SPEAKER_03: It was like Mac Brown era.
- 18:05SPEAKER_03: It's been a long time since Texas has had a really solid defense, and they were flying the ball, making plays, defensive line showed out.
- 18:12SPEAKER_04: Um, but TCU is an explosive offense, and yeah, Texas, Texas was hitting, it was physical.
- 18:18SPEAKER_04: You kept thinking that that game would either I mean, the the more they hung around, the more you thought, okay, Texas is gonna find a way.
- 18:27SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 18:27SPEAKER_04: And it was it was it was a good defensive game.
- 18:30SPEAKER_04: I mean, it was a good one.
- 18:32SPEAKER_03: This wasn't just like no, and it came down to two breakdowns.
- 18:35SPEAKER_03: Obviously, there's a broken play, uh, the with the receiver got behind the two safeties.
- 18:39SPEAKER_03: Obviously, it was a switch, didn't happen.
- 18:41SPEAKER_03: And that was just a it was just a broke, it was just busted coverage.
- 18:43SPEAKER_03: And then the 75-yard touchdown run where the guy just lost gap control.
- 18:46SPEAKER_03: He made it uh he made a nice cut and he took it to the house.
- 18:49SPEAKER_03: Other than those two plays, Texas played a perfect game on defense.
- 18:52SPEAKER_03: Obviously, like that's the game of football.
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: Like, that's all it takes, it's two big plays to lose a football game, but you just expect your Texas offense to score more than 17 points, three points.
- 19:02SPEAKER_03: They scored three points, the defense scored seven.
- 19:04SPEAKER_03: You expect a Texas offense to score more than three points at home, like it's full stop.
- 19:08SPEAKER_04: The other thing, I don't think this shows up in the stat sheet, but I remember watching it, and um, this was a field position game.
- 19:14SPEAKER_04: I mean, TCU started like every drive on the 40, 45-yard line, and um Texas was on like their own 20, their own 15.
- 19:23SPEAKER_04: TCU was in better field position all night long, and that's kind of the way those defensive struggles go.
- 19:28SPEAKER_04: I mean, that they all it takes is one or two plays, and uh that I mean it was a good game, and I give TCU a lot of credit.
- 19:36SPEAKER_04: One of the things, one of the hallmarks of a really good team is being able to win multiple different ways, and you finally saw their defense step up and win a game for them.
- 19:46SPEAKER_04: So they might actually be legit.
- 19:48SPEAKER_03: They might be legit.
- 19:49SPEAKER_03: We're gonna find out here in a little bit.
- 19:50SPEAKER_03: They've got the uh TCU's got they got a plucky Baylor and then obviously the Big 12 championship ahead of them, but I mean their eyes are on the playoff, and where they should be, because they are they have positioned themselves very nicely to make a run.
- 20:02SPEAKER_03: Um, but uh let's let's move on from that.
- 20:04SPEAKER_03: Uh let's just go, let's just work through, let's work through the rankings.
- 20:06SPEAKER_03: Uh, number five, Tennessee, uh 66, uh Missouri 24.
- 20:10SPEAKER_03: Uh big bounce back back spot after the Georgia game.
- 20:14SPEAKER_03: Uh, you said it.
- 20:15SPEAKER_03: You I you get I'm gonna give I'm gonna go ahead and give you a pat in the back right now.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: You said take the over and the cover.
- 20:21SPEAKER_03: Both like that's exactly what they they scored 40 points in the second half.
- 20:25SPEAKER_03: I mean it's your game.
- 20:26SPEAKER_03: You you you go ahead.
- 20:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean uh that I knew that this game was gonna be a bounce back, get right.
- 20:33SPEAKER_04: Hey, you know, prove we're we're not what we put on film last week game, especially for the offensive line.
- 20:39SPEAKER_04: They've had kind of a tough go of things last few games.
- 20:43SPEAKER_04: Um, the stat that I wanted to mention to you earlier, um, now that we're on our game, is Joe Milton, our backup quarterback, had more yards in two drives against Missouri than Will Levis had his entire game against Vanderbilt.
- 21:00SPEAKER_02: Which they lost.
- 21:01SPEAKER_04: Joe Milton went three for three for 105 yards and a touchdown.
- 21:06SPEAKER_04: It's not a bad that's not a bad back.
- 21:08SPEAKER_04: That's not that's not a backup work either.
- 21:10SPEAKER_04: I thought this was yeah, it should have been two touchdowns.
- 21:12SPEAKER_04: The guy got stopped at like the half yard line and they punched it in on the ground.
- 21:15SPEAKER_04: Got robbed.
- 21:16SPEAKER_04: He got robbed.
- 21:17SPEAKER_04: Um, but yeah, I mean, this was a good game.
- 21:18SPEAKER_04: Um, we're starting to settle things down on the back end of the secondary.
- 21:23SPEAKER_04: We're finding some good cornerback play.
- 21:26SPEAKER_04: Um, and we're we're we're getting some freshmen, some love.
- 21:29SPEAKER_04: Dylan Sampson at running back.
- 21:31SPEAKER_04: We're gonna see him several more times throughout the year.
- 21:34SPEAKER_04: He came in, he put up 98 yards and a touchdown.
- 21:38SPEAKER_04: He looked explosive.
- 21:39SPEAKER_04: He's probably our fastest running back, but he hasn't been playing really since giving up an almost back breaking sack against that your LSU Tigers because he didn't know his pass protection.
- 21:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that happened a freshman mistake, and he's getting a lot better.
- 21:54SPEAKER_04: So it's good to see them mix some of those guys in.
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I want to give you guys a little more credit.
- 21:58SPEAKER_03: Missouri's not, I mean, they're four and six, I get that, but Missouri's played a lot of teams really tough.
- 22:02SPEAKER_03: Um, and I drinkowitz is a good coach, they do things well.
- 22:06SPEAKER_03: Beating them by 40 is obviously nice, and you expect you expect it's it's nice to see Tennessee do what they're expected to do with such ease.
- 22:13SPEAKER_03: Because obviously, you know, Tennessee's got eyes in the playoffs.
- 22:15SPEAKER_03: They're you know, they're they're they're looking at a top four ranking here pretty soon.
- 22:18SPEAKER_03: Like you want them to you want if you're gonna if you're gonna put them there, and we're and we're gonna be talking we're gonna be talking about that here in a couple weeks, you want them to look like that.
- 22:25SPEAKER_03: And that's exactly what they did.
- 22:26SPEAKER_04: So kudos to Missouri's defense, they haven't played a ton of explosive offenses, but I think their defense was ranked like 13th in the country or something.
- 22:35SPEAKER_04: They've got a scrappy defense, especially on the D line.
- 22:38SPEAKER_03: They do, they do.
- 22:39SPEAKER_03: So uh kudos to Tennessee, Tennessee, taking care of business.
- 22:42SPEAKER_03: Uh, let's keep it rolling.
- 22:44SPEAKER_03: Uh, number six, Oregon.
- 22:45SPEAKER_03: Uh, this is like the best pack troll game I've watched all year.
- 22:48SPEAKER_03: Uh, against number 25, uh, Washington.
- 22:51SPEAKER_03: Washington gets the win.
- 22:53SPEAKER_03: 37-24-34 on a last second field goal.
- 22:57SPEAKER_03: Everybody showed out.
- 22:58SPEAKER_03: Bo Nicks was awesome.
- 22:59SPEAKER_03: Michael Penix was awesome.
- 23:01SPEAKER_03: Uh, Irving was awesome.
- 23:03SPEAKER_03: Uh, like this game was back and forth.
- 23:06SPEAKER_03: Um, what Washington played to win the whole time?
- 23:09SPEAKER_03: That fourth quarter uh touchdown throw by Penix over the safety was uh just an absolute dime.
- 23:15SPEAKER_03: Uh, some questionable fourth down calls, uh, some weird injury timeouts.
- 23:19SPEAKER_03: This game had it all.
- 23:20SPEAKER_03: Um, I I was I was taken away, really impressed with both.
- 23:24SPEAKER_03: Um, what are your thoughts?
- 23:26SPEAKER_04: This was the most fun game of the day, probably.
- 23:29SPEAKER_04: I mean, you've got Washington put up 522 yards, Oregon put up almost 600 yards.
- 23:35SPEAKER_04: I yeah, I mean, this was this was a fun one, and it went back and forth.
- 23:39SPEAKER_04: And Dan Lanning lost this game.
- 23:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he did.
- 23:44SPEAKER_04: I mean, straight up.
- 23:45SPEAKER_04: Oregon was looking good.
- 23:47SPEAKER_04: Um, and he went for it on fourth.
- 23:50SPEAKER_04: If you if you didn't, if you didn't watch it, he went for it on like fourth and one on his own 30 something yard line with like a minute left in the game.
- 24:00SPEAKER_04: It was a tie game.
- 24:01SPEAKER_04: And I don't even think Washington needed to pick up a first down to kick the game-winning field goal.
- 24:06SPEAKER_04: I think they did, but they could have just ran the ball every time and kicked the field goal.
- 24:11SPEAKER_04: Um, he lost the game for him.
- 24:13SPEAKER_04: It was inexplicable.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, it was a weird, it was a really weird coaching maneuver.
- 24:18SPEAKER_03: I, you know, I guess and this, I mean on the other side, I mean, that they were bringing the ball over them, and Bo Nicks was looking like Bo Knicks.
- 24:26SPEAKER_03: And that's this game was so back and forth, that's all it took was one bad decision, one miscalculation, and UW took advantage.
- 24:33SPEAKER_04: Washington that that was a PlayStation, like that was a I'm I'm a gamer call.
- 24:40SPEAKER_04: You know, that's not like a that was like okay, we'll just roll the dice, we'll go forward.
- 24:44SPEAKER_04: Who cares?
- 24:44SPEAKER_04: Like if I lose, I lose.
- 24:45SPEAKER_04: I'll turn it, I'll turn off the the console.
- 24:48SPEAKER_03: UW has bounced back nicely.
- 24:49SPEAKER_03: They've won this, they've now won four straight, and they're gonna win their last two.
- 24:52SPEAKER_03: Well, probably Colorado for sure, probably Washington State.
- 24:55SPEAKER_03: They're gonna finish 10 and 2.
- 24:56SPEAKER_03: Um, they have they have a tiebreaker with well, Oregon's got well, then we'll see.
- 25:00SPEAKER_03: Uh the Pac-12 is gonna be really dicey.
- 25:02SPEAKER_03: Washington, UW with that win, they might play themselves back into the uh Pac-12 championship, which of course means a Rose Bowl might still be on the table.
- 25:11SPEAKER_03: Then playoffs are probably done.
- 25:12SPEAKER_03: Playoffs are probably done for everybody in the pack except for maybe USC, which we'll talk about at the end of the pod.
- 25:17SPEAKER_03: Um, but UW has put themselves in position for a hell of a bowl game, just a hell of a season, frankly.
- 25:22SPEAKER_03: Michael Penix was every worth every bit they got, but whatever it was that to get him there from Indiana was well, money well spent.
- 25:30SPEAKER_04: I kind of thought that Washington would be a little bit of a dark horse this year, but it was like a flyer.
- 25:35SPEAKER_04: Like I don't, you know, it was yeah, nobody could have predicted this.
- 25:38SPEAKER_03: And they started four and oh, and they were kind of they kind of looked apart and then uh they dropped a couple.
- 25:42SPEAKER_03: I think they kind of left for dead, and they've and good for them for coming back and winning four straight, sitting at eight and two.
- 25:47SPEAKER_03: I think every UW fan in the one in the country's gotta be, you know, and with a chance to get back into the Pac-12 championship, I think they've got to be feeling pretty good about that.
- 25:54SPEAKER_03: And obviously, beating Oregon in Oregon is just in outson, it's just so hard.
- 26:00SPEAKER_04: I think they hadn't lost in like the their last 24 games or something like that.
- 26:05SPEAKER_04: They mentioned it on the broadcast.
- 26:06SPEAKER_04: I don't remember.
- 26:07SPEAKER_04: It was it was several years of home games.
- 26:09SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 26:10SPEAKER_03: So well done.
- 26:11SPEAKER_03: Good uh go Huskies.
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: Uh, number nine, Alabama takes care of business, just barely holds on actually against number 11 Ole Miss.
- 26:18SPEAKER_03: Final score was 30 to 24.
- 26:20SPEAKER_03: This game ended, came down to a uh fourth quarter end of the drive.
- 26:24SPEAKER_03: Ole Miss had the ball.
- 26:25SPEAKER_03: I think I think they got as deep as uh Alabama, like 10 or 11 yards line.
- 26:29SPEAKER_03: They had a couple shots at the end zone, chance to win it, couldn't get it done.
- 26:33SPEAKER_03: Um, the takeaway for me, frankly, from this game is one, well, two takeaways.
- 26:38SPEAKER_03: One, um, Alabama's rush defense is just straight up suspect.
- 26:42SPEAKER_03: It's not very good.
- 26:43SPEAKER_03: They cannot.
- 26:44SPEAKER_04: Well, we said that last week, and and and it doesn't hurt or it doesn't help you to play against one of the best rushing teams in the country.
- 26:51SPEAKER_03: And that was my other point, is that as old miss is so good running ball.
- 26:54SPEAKER_03: Quishan Judkins, 25 carries, 135 yards, 5.4 carries, two touchdowns, 35 yard long.
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: He at the end, he moved the ball.
- 27:01SPEAKER_03: So Ole Miss gets the ball back with like two minutes to go, and they had the they had 34 to 20, 30 to 24.
- 27:07SPEAKER_03: They have to go the whole touchdown to win.
- 27:09SPEAKER_03: They gave him the ball like right at the middle, like four times.
- 27:12SPEAKER_03: Like he was running right through the defense, and it felt like the only reason they pulled him off the field was because he was just exhausted, like he just needed like some he needed to catch his breath.
- 27:21SPEAKER_03: Um, Zach Evans, I think, went out with an injury.
- 27:23SPEAKER_03: He wasn't really doing doing much.
- 27:25SPEAKER_03: They didn't have anybody else to go to, so they put the ball in Jackson Dart's hand and it didn't work out.
- 27:29SPEAKER_03: But my point, uh, if he doesn't get tired, like if they've got timeouts, they probably win that game.
- 27:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:36SPEAKER_04: But he didn't see the field after they got into Alabama territory, I don't think.
- 27:42SPEAKER_04: And yeah, if if they can find a way to get him back on the field, he probably finds a way.
- 27:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:49SPEAKER_03: Uh they're just oh, I mean, a lot they're just different, they're just a different team on offense.
- 27:53SPEAKER_03: And Jackson Dark is a nice, is a nice quarterback.
- 27:56SPEAKER_03: He's okay, but he's not, you know, what Lane Kiffin wants to do, given how dynamic and how multiple and the misdirection of the run game, like that's where Ole Miss is deadly.
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: That's when they've been smoking people this year.
- 28:07SPEAKER_03: Um, so when he was off the field, it's just the worst time.
- 28:09SPEAKER_03: The worst time to not have him on the field, and it and it obviously costs Ole Miss.
- 28:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, this game played out a lot like I thought it would.
- 28:17SPEAKER_04: Like not me.
- 28:18SPEAKER_04: Go ahead.
- 28:19SPEAKER_03: What do you mean?
- 28:20SPEAKER_04: Well, I mean, we said Ole Miss would be able to run the ball.
- 28:23SPEAKER_04: Um I picked Alabama to win, but not cover.
- 28:27SPEAKER_04: Umle Miss ran the ball all over him, but Obama pulled it out, and I think it's just because I I kind of just thought this was kind of a an answer to the critics out there that that said, A, that the dynasty was done, you know, Alabama players are quitting, um, you know, all that all that all that fuel that Lane Kiffin was so worried about, that goat fuel as he called it.
- 28:52SPEAKER_04: Um Saban is just great in these spots.
- 28:55SPEAKER_04: And you know, I mean Olmus is still Ole Miss.
- 29:00SPEAKER_04: Kiffin has done a great job there, but let's be 100% real.
- 29:06SPEAKER_04: Olmus is not playing at Death Valley, it's not playing at Nealand.
- 29:13SPEAKER_04: It's I mean, I think I I I I'm gonna say I think he's he's taken them to kind of their ceiling, you know.
- 29:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I hear what you're saying.
- 29:21SPEAKER_03: What you're what you're suggesting what you're suggesting is that Olmus is not the pedigree of program the SEC.
- 29:24SPEAKER_03: There's the upper tier.
- 29:25SPEAKER_03: And I think you're right.
- 29:26SPEAKER_03: And I actually think he knows it too.
- 29:27SPEAKER_03: One thing we're that we didn't we're not we're not we're not talking about this week, we probably will next week, the week after.
- 29:32SPEAKER_03: He's about this close to taking the Auburn job.
- 29:34SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 29:34SPEAKER_03: And the reason he's doing that is because he thinks he can win.
- 29:37SPEAKER_03: A lot of folks would say, well, that's a lateral move, SEC West, C C West.
- 29:40SPEAKER_03: It's not.
- 29:41SPEAKER_03: Auburn is a big upgrade, much bigger program.
- 29:43SPEAKER_03: And what you can do when you get there is you can get much bigger players, much bigger resources, you can win more football.
- 29:49SPEAKER_03: And what Mike is alluding to is Ole Miss, is I and I think you're right.
- 29:53SPEAKER_03: I think Hugh Freeze was kind of in that scene.
- 29:55SPEAKER_03: He did it as well.
- 29:56SPEAKER_03: That eight, nine, ten wins is kind of what when the West wants in a blue moon, that's kind of what Ole Miss can do at their best, at least the current landscape of the SEC.
- 30:05SPEAKER_04: Well, yeah, and it's not just it's not just it is the administrative support and it is the facilities and it is all that stuff, but it's also just the environment you have there.
- 30:18SPEAKER_04: Like you still have sort of that white-collar environment at Ole Miss, you know, where it's all about the tailgating, it's all about like it's not the same.
- 30:28SPEAKER_04: It is, it's just not it's not the same.
- 30:31SPEAKER_04: People like to dunk on the SEC for like all of our redneck fan bases, but if there's one thing that's that that you get out of your Alabama, your Tennessee, your LSU, your Florida, it's it's country folk that all they care about is football.
- 30:52SPEAKER_04: And you don't quite have that at Old Miss.
- 30:54SPEAKER_03: Ole Miss doesn't have the legions that the other the other school that the other schools do.
- 30:57SPEAKER_04: And then and the I just don't have the diehard fan.
- 30:59SPEAKER_04: It's not the same.
- 31:00SPEAKER_04: Like no.
- 31:01SPEAKER_03: And they and they don't and then and what what that all turns out to is they can't get the talent that the other teams probably can't get, at least as consistently.
- 31:09SPEAKER_03: So um, I mean, kudos to them.
- 31:11SPEAKER_03: They're gonna win 10 games this year.
- 31:12SPEAKER_03: They're gonna finish in the top 10, probably go to a nice bowl, and very well might win it.
- 31:15SPEAKER_03: Um, but lose their coach.
- 31:17SPEAKER_03: And then lose their coach, which is tough.
- 31:18SPEAKER_04: Uh and then rebuild because yeah, it's not that good of a job.
- 31:22SPEAKER_03: Nope.
- 31:23SPEAKER_03: Uh let's go to the big upset of the day.
- 31:25SPEAKER_03: Uh, number 12, UCLA goes down to uh Arizona score was 28-34.
- 31:30SPEAKER_03: Um, this was a great game that nobody watched because it was at like 10 30 at night.
- 31:35SPEAKER_03: Came down to the fourth quarter last second.
- 31:37SPEAKER_03: UCLA had the ball.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: Uh I think ZTR had a chance to throw it.
- 31:41SPEAKER_03: He's at his own 30-yard line, found a guy running across the field, back of the um end zone, and just hit him in the it hit him just outside his reach.
- 31:50SPEAKER_03: They were an inch away from pulling off the improbable comeback, couldn't do it.
- 31:54SPEAKER_03: Um the the big takeaway from this game is you know, Arizona, big win, but biggest one of the year, probably kills UCLA's playoff chances.
- 32:02SPEAKER_03: Chip Kelly uh is now at a two loss.
- 32:04SPEAKER_03: Uh, even if he does get back, climb back in the Pac-12 championship.
- 32:08SPEAKER_03: Um, you Oregon and UCLA probably saw the death blow to their playoff chances, don't you think?
- 32:14SPEAKER_04: Yes, they they definitely are not looking at a playoff, but they are looking to play spoiler to USC.
- 32:21SPEAKER_04: UCLA is a is a very dangerous team coming off of a loss if you're a USC fan.
- 32:27SPEAKER_04: Um, Arizona's not a great team, but they played really, really good.
- 32:32SPEAKER_04: Um when you look at the stats.
- 32:33SPEAKER_04: I mean, UCLA is not a defensive team by any stretch of the imagination.
- 32:38SPEAKER_04: Um, but I mean Jaden Delaura, I mean he he he played out of his mind.
- 32:43SPEAKER_04: He went 22 for 28.
- 32:45SPEAKER_04: I mean, he he almost played flawless football, 315 yards, two touchdowns, and UCLA still, I mean, they did what they did.
- 32:52SPEAKER_04: I mean, Zach Charbonnet had almost 200 yards rushing.
- 32:55SPEAKER_04: It was just, I mean, that's a good game.
- 32:57SPEAKER_04: They played well.
- 32:58SPEAKER_04: They just Arizona just I don't know, punched above their uh their weight a little bit.
- 33:03SPEAKER_03: Uh Zach Charbonnet is an NFL back.
- 33:05SPEAKER_03: I mean, 24 carries, 184 yards.
- 33:07SPEAKER_03: That guy's been doing it all season like that, too.
- 33:08SPEAKER_03: He's just he's an outside, this is a former Michigan transfer um who's really found a home at UCLA in Chip Kelly's offense, which shouldn't surprise anybody.
- 33:16SPEAKER_03: Chip Kelly always gets great production out of his running backs.
- 33:18SPEAKER_03: Um, but he seems a great fit there.
- 33:20SPEAKER_03: Had a big day, just wasn't enough.
- 33:22SPEAKER_03: Sometimes it's sometimes it goes that way.
- 33:24SPEAKER_04: I'll I'll also say this game was one of the few uh big upsets um for the home teams that you we've seen this year.
- 33:33SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 33:34SPEAKER_04: If the Rose Bowl was not such a graveyard, UCLA wins this game.
- 33:39SPEAKER_03: If they had some fan support.
- 33:41SPEAKER_04: If they had it, yeah, if you had any sort of semblance of just in a traditional football environment, UCLA gets the win easily.
- 33:51SPEAKER_03: You might be right.
- 33:52SPEAKER_03: That's that's reasonable, reasonable take.
- 33:54SPEAKER_03: Uh number seven, LSU uh goes into Arkansas, wins 13 to 10.
- 33:58SPEAKER_03: This game was freezing cold.
- 34:00SPEAKER_03: There was snow on the field first thing in the morning.
- 34:02SPEAKER_03: Um, pretty ugly game.
- 34:04SPEAKER_03: Arkansas sacked Alabama seven, um LSU seven times.
- 34:08SPEAKER_03: Uh major offensive line breakdown.
- 34:10SPEAKER_03: Um, the bigger, the bigger side, this the story of this game was uh the defense, LSU's uh defense specifically.
- 34:17SPEAKER_03: Um uh Arkansas just couldn't get anything going.
- 34:21SPEAKER_03: Um, Malik Hornsby, the fastest player on their team, uh track star, four for nine, 24 yards.
- 34:27SPEAKER_03: He couldn't get anything going.
- 34:28SPEAKER_03: Gade Fortin gave him a spike, he gave him a little spark.
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: They got they got a touchdown there at the end.
- 34:33SPEAKER_03: Um, but the final score was 13 to 10.
- 34:35SPEAKER_03: Big time defensive, uh, just slug match.
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: Uh, ugly game for LSU, especially on offense.
- 34:41SPEAKER_03: Um, but the thing is everyone's excited, of course, is the defense, specifically the play of Harold Perkins, uh, number 40.
- 34:49SPEAKER_03: Um, those of you that don't know, uh, Harold Perkins is the true freshman.
- 34:52SPEAKER_03: He was a five-star transfer um from Texas.
- 34:55SPEAKER_03: He was playing.
- 34:56SPEAKER_03: Uh he is he was he has been getting on the fields at LSU more and more.
- 35:02SPEAKER_03: Couldn't find the couldn't find the field in the first couple games.
- 35:04SPEAKER_03: He's there now.
- 35:05SPEAKER_03: Um, eight tackles, six solo, four sacks, four tackles for loss, pass defend, um, two forced fumbles.
- 35:13SPEAKER_03: Should have been three.
- 35:14SPEAKER_03: One of them was called an incomplete pass, should have been three.
- 35:16SPEAKER_03: He was just absolutely everywhere.
- 35:19SPEAKER_03: Um, if you're bored, go Google Harold Perkins' highlights and just watch what he did.
- 35:24SPEAKER_03: Um, I know you didn't watch this game because you were watching Tennessee game, but did you catch the game?
- 35:27SPEAKER_04: No, I actually had this game secondary.
- 35:29SPEAKER_04: I had it on the iPad on the table while I had a Tennessee's game going.
- 35:32SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 35:33SPEAKER_03: Um, any thoughts on what you saw?
- 35:36SPEAKER_04: Um this game was a struggle.
- 35:42SPEAKER_04: When I because okay, the so we talked about the TCU game being like a defensive, just you know, just a great defensive battle.
- 35:52SPEAKER_04: This game was a little hard to watch.
- 35:54SPEAKER_04: This was I think there were what let me see.
- 35:59SPEAKER_04: Uh 20 passes completed between both teams.
- 36:04SPEAKER_03: Correct.
- 36:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 36:05SPEAKER_04: 22, something like that.
- 36:06SPEAKER_04: 22 passes total in the entire game completed between both teams.
- 36:10SPEAKER_04: That's like a 1900 like beer offense.
- 36:15SPEAKER_03: Like no, and it was obvious that like Mike Denbrook, the office LSU offensive coordinator, he kind of knew that you know, obviously, the pass the I mean, the the pass protection for L for LSU was terrible.
- 36:24SPEAKER_03: And it's something that's that we're gonna have to address bigly because we got, I mean, uh, one, Texanim can rush the pass here in two weeks, and Georgia is gonna be really good at it, and we're not gonna stand a chance if we can't figure that out.
- 36:35SPEAKER_03: Um, LSU knew that wasn't gonna.
- 36:37SPEAKER_03: I mean, uh, I'll give to LSU for keeping the ball.
- 36:39SPEAKER_03: They ran the ball 51 times for 198 yards.
- 36:43SPEAKER_03: Uh, I can't remember the last time I saw LSU carry the ball 51 times either.
- 36:47SPEAKER_03: Um, they did.
- 36:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's insane.
- 36:49SPEAKER_04: I mean, that's a lot of rushing yards, but not when you're running it 51 times.
- 36:53SPEAKER_03: No, it's a little a little under four clip, which is fine, but it's not great.
- 36:56SPEAKER_03: I what my my opinion is I think UV, I think LSU knew that uh they had to shorten this game as much as possible because um the weather was brutal.
- 37:05SPEAKER_03: Uh the pass game was nowhere to be found.
- 37:07SPEAKER_03: Uh Jaden Daniels was seeing was seeing headlights everywhere.
- 37:11SPEAKER_03: So they had to pound the ball and play tight defense, and it's exactly what they did.
- 37:14SPEAKER_03: Um, I'll give a shout out to my our kicker.
- 37:16SPEAKER_03: LSU kicker did his part, which was really great.
- 37:19SPEAKER_03: And the I mean the big story, of course, is the defense.
- 37:21SPEAKER_03: We were harassing them the entire game.
- 37:25SPEAKER_03: And uh Harold Perkins, number 40, is the best defensive player in the country.
- 37:29SPEAKER_04: I'll push back on you a little bit because the Razorbacks were without KJ Jefferson.
- 37:34SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 37:35SPEAKER_04: And they don't have an offense without KJ Jefferson.
- 37:39SPEAKER_04: No, they don't.
- 37:40SPEAKER_04: And they put up 10 points, which you know, that's fine.
- 37:45SPEAKER_04: It's not anything, but LSU's offense needs to find some answers.
- 37:50SPEAKER_03: No, exactly.
- 37:50SPEAKER_03: And it really and really it comes, it really comes down to upfront.
- 37:53SPEAKER_03: Arkansas is one thing like let's we talk about this going to the game.
- 37:56SPEAKER_03: Remember, I even said to you on the on the podcast last week, keep an eye on Arkansas's Buddha rust to rush the passer because it's one thing that they do do really well.
- 38:04SPEAKER_03: I think they lead the nation in sacks.
- 38:06SPEAKER_03: They've got two or three guys.
- 38:07SPEAKER_03: It's just the rest of their defense, the rest of their offense this week, um, isn't there?
- 38:12SPEAKER_03: But whatever.
- 38:12SPEAKER_03: We got the win.
- 38:13SPEAKER_03: We're eight and two, we're moving on.
- 38:15SPEAKER_03: Um, it was wasn't always pretty.
- 38:17SPEAKER_03: Uh, thank God for Harold Perkins.
- 38:19SPEAKER_03: That's kind of my yeah.
- 38:20SPEAKER_04: That game, that game was huge.
- 38:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, huge game.
- 38:23SPEAKER_04: All that matters, you get the dub, keep on moving.
- 38:26SPEAKER_03: Keep on trucking, keep on trucking.
- 38:28SPEAKER_03: Uh, what's next?
- 38:29SPEAKER_03: Um, we we already talked about Texas TCU.
- 38:32SPEAKER_03: Um, let's talk a little bit about uh Clemson.
- 38:35SPEAKER_03: Clemson, number 10.
- 38:36SPEAKER_03: Uh Clemson, 31, 16.
- 38:38SPEAKER_03: Uh, took care of Louisville.
- 38:40SPEAKER_03: Frankly, I this was a really popular spot for uh an upset.
- 38:45SPEAKER_04: I thought there was potential for one.
- 38:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and there you were hearing a lot of a lot of folks were were starting to see the uh the the the crows uh start start to swirl, but uh Clemson got up and uh played pretty well.
- 38:57SPEAKER_03: DJ Ugalay had a decent day, didn't give anything away.
- 39:00SPEAKER_03: Um Will Shipley, did you see that run?
- 39:02SPEAKER_03: Uh Will Shipley had about a 30-yard run where he got to the second level, literally leaped over the the safety, split the defenders to score a touchdown.
- 39:11SPEAKER_03: One of the more impressive runs Will Shipley's had of the year.
- 39:14SPEAKER_03: Um, there obviously Clemson's on track to go straight to the ACC championship and probably get there with one loss.
- 39:19SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, well done.
- 39:21SPEAKER_03: Win it winning winning what you're supposed to.
- 39:23SPEAKER_03: We were the country wanted to forget Clemson and they had other other ideas.
- 39:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, their offense played really well.
- 39:29SPEAKER_04: Uh their defense gave up 400 yards.
- 39:32SPEAKER_04: Um, Louisville's pretty good on offense.
- 39:35SPEAKER_04: There, you know, that's better be.
- 39:36SPEAKER_03: Scott Sandersfield's a good offensive coach.
- 39:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 39:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 39:38SPEAKER_04: I'm I really thought that that would be how they would win the game, and that you know, Clemson has just been up and down all year on offense, especially.
- 39:48SPEAKER_04: So yeah, good surprising bounce back from them.
- 39:50SPEAKER_04: I thought it would at least be a close game.
- 39:53SPEAKER_04: So uh they they kind of answered the call.
- 39:55SPEAKER_03: Did Malik Cunningham get hurt?
- 39:57SPEAKER_03: I know he was I know he went out for a little while because I mean I I I wonder if that that was that was part of the trouble as well.
- 40:02SPEAKER_03: I only I only caught this game towards the very end, and by the time I was watching, it was over.
- 40:06SPEAKER_03: But he I think I think he went out for a little while, which he did.
- 40:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, which is I don't I I don't know if the extent of his injury.
- 40:14SPEAKER_03: Um they're not gonna go far without him.
- 40:16SPEAKER_03: That's just all that means that's really all there is too.
- 40:19SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 40:19SPEAKER_03: Uh so good for Clemson.
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: Clemson's uh gonna dance with uh UNC.
- 40:24SPEAKER_03: Oh, we'll still about that really quickly.
- 40:25SPEAKER_03: Uh number 15, UNC wins a barn burner uh against Wake Forest 36-34.
- 40:30SPEAKER_03: Uh Drake, we I I don't I think the over they scored 70 points.
- 40:34SPEAKER_03: I think the over-under was like 73.
- 40:36SPEAKER_03: So it actually went under, but 70 points.
- 40:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, which is a bummer because I think we were both pounding the I think we were both pounding the over, and they uh definitely went under.
- 40:45SPEAKER_03: But they score, but but like I'll just uh Drake May and Sam Hartman both put on a show, especially Drake May, 31 for 49 yards, 448 yards, three touchdowns.
- 40:54SPEAKER_03: Um UNC is like a dark, dark, dark, dark, dark horse chance to make the playoff if a lot of things go their way.
- 41:01SPEAKER_03: Drake May should be now one of the Heisman favorites, I think, right?
- 41:05SPEAKER_04: He's a he he should be in New York.
- 41:07SPEAKER_04: Uh he's their entire offense.
- 41:09SPEAKER_04: Yes, he's doing it.
- 41:10SPEAKER_04: He went 448 and three touchies through the air and 71 on the ground and a touchy.
- 41:16SPEAKER_04: So, like, he is their offense, he's doing it all.
- 41:20SPEAKER_04: Um, but I I mean you gotta look at this point.
- 41:25SPEAKER_04: We're looking bigger picture for them.
- 41:27SPEAKER_04: Um we'll save that talk for the end of the show.
- 41:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 41:31SPEAKER_04: But yeah, I mean, this is another win.
- 41:33SPEAKER_04: Uh it's a good win.
- 41:34SPEAKER_04: Wake Forest is now six and four.
- 41:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, not this, not the season they hoped for, but UNC, you know, continues to hang around, improve their resume, and and and Drake May is is yeah, I mean, continuing to all they could do is win the games in front of them, which is what they just they just keep doing it.
- 41:53SPEAKER_03: So yeah, credit to them.
- 41:55SPEAKER_03: Credit to them.
- 41:56SPEAKER_04: They've had a great year, they've kind of come out of nowhere, too.
- 41:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they're another Tennessee, CCU, UNC, LSU, all teams just storming onto the national scene this year.
- 42:08SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, I'll be honest.
- 42:09SPEAKER_03: I would after that ugly, ugly app state win, 63 or 61, and then losing in Notre Dame, I just I was done with I was kind of done with UNC.
- 42:17SPEAKER_03: And I agree.
- 42:18SPEAKER_03: All they've done is just turn around and beat every they've now won six straight.
- 42:22SPEAKER_03: They're playing Georgia Tech, who they're gonna beat this week.
- 42:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and they've got two games at NC State at Clemson.
- 42:27SPEAKER_03: Like if they go 12 and 1, everyone's gonna have to pay attention to them.
- 42:30SPEAKER_03: So we'll see.
- 42:32SPEAKER_03: Um, I I also want to just want to reiterate what you said about um uh Drake May having a monster day.
- 42:38SPEAKER_03: Uh Drake May threw the ball 49 times and he rushed the ball 19 times.
- 42:42SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, he had the ball every they only handed the ball off 19, 19, 18 other times.
- 42:49SPEAKER_03: So literally, just about every ball went to him.
- 42:52SPEAKER_03: So, yeah, that's like get that by the card.
- 42:55SPEAKER_04: Those are high school statistics.
- 42:57SPEAKER_04: Those are like hey, you're the best player in the county, so you're gonna do everything for us.
- 43:02SPEAKER_04: Hey, why don't you line up at safety too while you're at it?
- 43:05SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 43:06SPEAKER_03: Uh all right, let's do some one takes really quick so we move so we can move on.
- 43:09SPEAKER_03: Uh, number uh, number uh 16, NC State loses in just tough fashion.
- 43:15SPEAKER_03: Uh 2021.
- 43:16SPEAKER_03: Um, tough call the very end.
- 43:18SPEAKER_03: The PI to keep the game alive.
- 43:20SPEAKER_03: Uh Boston College gets a win.
- 43:22SPEAKER_03: Uh NC State, it's really, really tough for them to be any good without their quarterback.
- 43:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 43:27SPEAKER_04: I'm happy for Rob Reed.
- 43:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, good.
- 43:29SPEAKER_03: We'll go fight fighting Rob Reed.
- 43:31SPEAKER_03: Uh number 22, UCF, uh takes down number 17, Tulane in at New Orleans.
- 43:37SPEAKER_03: Um, John Reese Prumley is an awesome quarter, awesome group of five quarterback.
- 43:41SPEAKER_03: UCF is going to the group of five.
- 43:43SPEAKER_03: The UCF is going to be the group of five boltean this year, I think.
- 43:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I agree.
- 43:47SPEAKER_04: They'll they'll be in a uh New Year 6, probably.
- 43:50SPEAKER_04: So that's that's great for them.
- 43:51SPEAKER_04: Gusil Mozan um had a great year.
- 43:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 43:54SPEAKER_03: Um Gusal Mozan was one of those coaches where it's like he he went to SEC, he did some things well, he's back to group of five.
- 44:01SPEAKER_03: Like, is he gonna be getting a phone call here again two years?
- 44:03SPEAKER_03: Like, he's obviously really good.
- 44:04SPEAKER_03: He's uh he's he's won at a high level UCF.
- 44:07SPEAKER_03: He's gonna win this year.
- 44:08SPEAKER_03: Like, you wonder if he'll get another shot.
- 44:11SPEAKER_03: Ole Miss.
- 44:12SPEAKER_03: Man, would he be good?
- 44:13SPEAKER_03: Would he be fun at Ole Miss?
- 44:14SPEAKER_03: I can see that.
- 44:15SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 44:15SPEAKER_04: That'd be fun.
- 44:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think somebody, I mean, he's on the radar.
- 44:19SPEAKER_04: He's on the radar for sure.
- 44:20SPEAKER_04: But I think you know, UCF has been solid for several years now.
- 44:23SPEAKER_03: I mean, yeah.
- 44:25SPEAKER_03: Um uh number 19, K State beat the brakes off my Baylor Bears.
- 44:30SPEAKER_03: Womp womp 31 to three.
- 44:32SPEAKER_03: Um, my my only takeaway is um K State TCU is gonna be a great Big 12 championship, and my Baylor Bears.
- 44:39SPEAKER_03: Are nowhere near as good as I thought they were going to be this year.
- 44:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think Baylor has been a little bit of um a question mark this year.
- 44:49SPEAKER_04: They've been up and down.
- 44:50SPEAKER_04: They've been a lot like a lot of these Big 12 teams.
- 44:52SPEAKER_04: The big take takeaway is uh Adrian Martinez is probably out for several weeks, which is a killer for K-State.
- 44:59SPEAKER_04: Um Baylor is in a big bounce back position this weekend against TCU.
- 45:07SPEAKER_04: Uh so you know, watch that knee jerk reaction.
- 45:10SPEAKER_04: We talked about it before we uh came on air.
- 45:13SPEAKER_04: What's the spread?
- 45:14SPEAKER_04: Two and a half, three points for TCU?
- 45:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 45:17SPEAKER_03: It could happen.
- 45:18SPEAKER_03: I mean, Baylor's good.
- 45:19SPEAKER_03: I mean, Baylor could has done this.
- 45:21SPEAKER_03: I mean, they beat Oklahoma, um, but they weren't, which they weren't supposed to do.
- 45:24SPEAKER_03: Uh, they lost to West Virginia, which they weren't supposed to do.
- 45:27SPEAKER_03: They're a little bit, they're a little bit of Jekyll a hide with this, with this Baylor team.
- 45:31SPEAKER_03: So while I I think TCU is the best team in the Big 12, I think they'll probably win.
- 45:36SPEAKER_03: I wouldn't be shocked at all if Baylor knocked them off this weekend.
- 45:38SPEAKER_04: I wouldn't Well, I mean, we've seen it every week, it seems like.
- 45:41SPEAKER_04: I mean, these games on the road are tough to win.
- 45:44SPEAKER_04: And that's why it means it means so much.
- 45:46SPEAKER_04: I mean, even Vegas, you know, I mean, yep, it means so much to to play on the road.
- 45:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and and and really, if you're if if you're a home team, if you're the home team and you there's less than a field goal, I mean, literally, that that almost might be a coin flip.
- 45:58SPEAKER_03: So keep an eye on that space, but we'll come back to that a little bit.
- 46:00SPEAKER_03: All right, last one game from last week before we move on.
- 46:03SPEAKER_03: Virginia Tech, uh, seven.
- 46:05SPEAKER_03: Uh Duke Blue Devils 24.
- 46:07SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna I'm not gonna repeat the same talking points about I do every about tech every week because it's two and eight, they're not going to bulls into their year.
- 46:14SPEAKER_03: Um, Mike Elko, the coach of Duke, he's also one of like nine guys, legitimately nine guys who should be mentioned for coach of the year because there's so damn many of them this year.
- 46:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Duke has had a surprising season, to say the least.
- 46:30SPEAKER_04: I mean Yeah.
- 46:32SPEAKER_04: I don't know any other way to put it.
- 46:34SPEAKER_04: Their schedules have played out extremely favorably, but they have done a great job.
- 46:41SPEAKER_03: They're seven and three.
- 46:42SPEAKER_03: They get some respect for seven and three.
- 46:44SPEAKER_04: Um, they're yeah, they're second, they're second in the coastal.
- 46:47SPEAKER_04: They're behind UNC.
- 46:49SPEAKER_04: I mean, yep.
- 46:50SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 46:50SPEAKER_04: There is a play Pitt this weekend, which is a task for them, but yeah, Pitts are really physical team.
- 46:56SPEAKER_03: They get them at home and they end the season with Wake Forest.
- 46:58SPEAKER_03: So those are two tougher ACC games.
- 47:01SPEAKER_03: But I've God, if you're a Duke fan, I said, hey, you can be seven and three at week 10, they would everybody would take that a million times.
- 47:07SPEAKER_04: They would say, Oh, in football, basketball hasn't exactly sport we're talking about.
- 47:12SPEAKER_03: Um, meanwhile, there's other court, the Hokie's uh Brent Pry.
- 47:15SPEAKER_03: Um uh you're looking for signs of optimism and you're you're not seeing them.
- 47:21SPEAKER_03: So, Hokie fans, just stay the course.
- 47:24SPEAKER_03: And uh, I swear, Brennard, I swear better times are ahead, just not in 2022.
- 47:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't we'll just move on.
- 47:31SPEAKER_03: Let's just move on from that.
- 47:33SPEAKER_03: Uh all right, good stuff.
- 47:34SPEAKER_03: Well, let's go ahead and talk about next week.
- 47:36SPEAKER_03: So this week isn't actually the super loaded, and uh I want to preface this because next week, a week from now, the is one of, if not the best weeks of college football ever.
- 47:46SPEAKER_03: It's rivalry week, and Mike and I are gonna talk a lot about it next week.
- 47:49SPEAKER_03: So there's a my point is a lot of teams don't schedule really great games this week.
- 47:55SPEAKER_03: So there are so the slate is a little bit lighter, but there's definitely some stuff that you should you that you should pay attention to, and we're gonna talk about that specifically.
- 48:02SPEAKER_04: All these games matter, and they still matter.
- 48:05SPEAKER_04: They still matter.
- 48:05SPEAKER_04: Anybody can still lose and trip up at any moment.
- 48:08SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 48:08SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 48:09SPEAKER_03: That's I really should say that.
- 48:10SPEAKER_03: Here's the here what I what I mean to say is right now it's not obvious who the marquee matchups are, but there will be two or three when the game is by second quarter, you're like, oh, you gotta watch that.
- 48:22SPEAKER_04: That's that is a yeah, that's a much better way to put it.
- 48:25SPEAKER_03: That's that's what's going to happen.
- 48:27SPEAKER_03: But there are a couple games that we do know are going to be awesome.
- 48:30SPEAKER_03: So let's go ahead and start with those right now.
- 48:32SPEAKER_03: Uh, number seven, USC at number 16 UCLA, cross-town rivals.
- 48:36SPEAKER_03: It's not really a home game for anybody.
- 48:37SPEAKER_03: Uh, this game's at eight o'clock on Fox.
- 48:40SPEAKER_03: Um USC is a two and a half point favorite.
- 48:43SPEAKER_03: USC is the lone.
- 48:45SPEAKER_03: The takeaway, the thing from I'm looking for this game is USC is the lone Pac-12s playoff chance team.
- 48:52SPEAKER_03: So all every all the eyes are on Cabe Williams and can they can they survive this game?
- 48:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, this game is gonna be pretty fun.
- 49:00SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be a lot of offense.
- 49:02SPEAKER_04: Um and USC lost Travis Dye at running back, their their star running back last week.
- 49:11SPEAKER_04: Uh, we were talking about it before the show.
- 49:13SPEAKER_04: It's not just him, they are super banged up.
- 49:16SPEAKER_04: Their entire running back room.
- 49:17SPEAKER_04: I don't know who's gonna play running back for them.
- 49:19SPEAKER_03: Caleb Williams.
- 49:20SPEAKER_03: He's gonna run the ball in, throw the ball.
- 49:21SPEAKER_03: He's gonna pull a Drake May.
- 49:23SPEAKER_04: That's probably right, actually.
- 49:25SPEAKER_04: Um and yeah, this should be a really fun one.
- 49:29SPEAKER_04: I think it'll I think it'll be a bit of a toss-up.
- 49:31SPEAKER_04: It's it's kind of gonna be, you know, who can win the turnover battle, who gets who gets maybe a special teams play, who has the ball last.
- 49:38SPEAKER_03: So you see UCLA hasn't hasn't been very bad at turnovers this year.
- 49:41SPEAKER_03: In fact, they've been pretty decent at protecting the ball, and USC has been feast or famine on defense because of that reason.
- 49:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they're number one in the country in turnover margin.
- 49:50SPEAKER_03: I I actually, I mean, I if I'm Chip Kelly, I'm going to this game just saying, just don't do that.
- 49:54SPEAKER_03: Just don't fumble the ball, don't fumble the ball, don't give the ball away, don't make any dumb mistakes, which they've been reasonably pretty good about this game.
- 50:00SPEAKER_03: I like UCLA in this game because I think Zach Charbonnet is going to have another day.
- 50:05SPEAKER_03: Um, I think um obviously they're salty about what happened in Arizona.
- 50:08SPEAKER_03: They're they're they're they're and I think they're gonna take a I think they're gonna I think you're gonna see the best version of UCLA that they have to offer.
- 50:16SPEAKER_03: Um, so I like UCLA in this game.
- 50:18SPEAKER_03: And if I'm UCLA and Chip Kelly, I'm playing the Zach Charbonnet game.
- 50:21SPEAKER_03: And we're saying I'm I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna ride him to Victory because I don't really think USC's run defense is gonna slow him down much.
- 50:29SPEAKER_04: No, USC's defense can't slow anybody down much.
- 50:32SPEAKER_04: And you've heard us talk about all year long, um, and probably everyone talk about how it's a quarterback battle.
- 50:40SPEAKER_04: But if you have the best running back on the field, or you and you have the best run, one of the best running backs in the country, that's where that kind of trumps that quarterback card.
- 50:48SPEAKER_04: Because you know what's so much easier than completing a 50-yard pass down the field, handing the ball off and letting him run for 50.
- 50:57SPEAKER_04: And so, yeah, I like I like U UCLA's run game.
- 51:01SPEAKER_04: Um, I would like it a whole lot better if the Rose Bowl had a decent environment.
- 51:07SPEAKER_04: If this was like a good home game, I really, really, really hope that they can put something together.
- 51:13SPEAKER_04: It's just sad what we've seen from home games from from UCLA this year.
- 51:18SPEAKER_04: I mean, this is a huge, huge, huge game.
- 51:20SPEAKER_03: You could tell how much Mike I watched college football because Mike and I look at the stands and we're like, we would go if we were in town, we would go.
- 51:26SPEAKER_03: Why aren't people there?
- 51:27SPEAKER_03: I would go, I would go.
- 51:28SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 51:29SPEAKER_03: If I was in LA watching this game, I would 100% show up for this.
- 51:32SPEAKER_04: Um, I went to a random um bowling green Georgia tech game.
- 51:38SPEAKER_04: But it was awesome.
- 51:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, for like ten dollars because I was there.
- 51:44SPEAKER_04: So yeah, I would go.
- 51:46SPEAKER_03: Absolutely, absolutely.
- 51:47SPEAKER_03: I'll I'll walk into any random college football game that uh UCLA USC is absolutely no different.
- 51:52SPEAKER_03: So we'll see what that.
- 51:53SPEAKER_03: I I like UCLA.
- 51:54SPEAKER_03: You like USC or what who's your pick?
- 51:56SPEAKER_03: What are you thinking?
- 51:57SPEAKER_04: I gotta go UCLA, not only because uh they're the home team, even I'm just hoping for some home environment, but I do like what you said about the run game, and I gotta root against the Trojans because balls need them to lose, baby.
- 52:09SPEAKER_03: Balls need them to lose.
- 52:11SPEAKER_03: Which we'll talk about at the end of the show a little bit.
- 52:12SPEAKER_03: All right, I'll move on.
- 52:13SPEAKER_03: Uh number 10, Utah against number 12, Oregon.
- 52:16SPEAKER_03: This was supposed to be the premier Pac-12 game.
- 52:20SPEAKER_03: It's lost a little bit of luster, but still a great game.
- 52:22SPEAKER_03: Um, this game is up in Outson Stadium again.
- 52:26SPEAKER_03: This game's at 10:30.
- 52:27SPEAKER_03: No line at the time at the moment.
- 52:29SPEAKER_03: I'm not seeing a lie at the moment, which is kind of bizarre.
- 52:31SPEAKER_03: Oh, there it is.
- 52:31SPEAKER_03: Uh oh, it's almost a pick'em.
- 52:32SPEAKER_03: Oregon's only a one-point favorite.
- 52:34SPEAKER_03: Uh, it's gonna be a strong on strong.
- 52:37SPEAKER_03: I'm looking, I'm excited for this.
- 52:38SPEAKER_03: Run on run.
- 52:39SPEAKER_03: Run on run.
- 52:40SPEAKER_03: A lot of that.
- 52:41SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm excited for this game because um one I want to see.
- 52:45SPEAKER_03: Um I this was this was a game that uh Oregon got the brakes beaten off them by Utah last year.
- 52:52SPEAKER_03: Twice.
- 52:52SPEAKER_03: Twice Oregon stuck it to him.
- 52:54SPEAKER_03: I'm pretty confident this is Dan Lanning has him better spot than Chris Bald.
- 52:58SPEAKER_03: I think this Oregon team is, even though they're even though they might not win the patch 12, I think they're a or even get the patch 12 championship.
- 53:03SPEAKER_03: I think they're a better team than they are last year.
- 53:05SPEAKER_03: I'm excited to see how they face what they look like against Utah this year.
- 53:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, well, Oregon is a much better team with Bo Knicks than they were all of last year.
- 53:15SPEAKER_04: And it is a strong on strong.
- 53:17SPEAKER_04: It is um, it's it's you know, Cameron Rising's going to the NFL, Bo Knicks moving on.
- 53:23SPEAKER_04: Um is a tough place to play.
- 53:27SPEAKER_04: It's a tough place to win.
- 53:29SPEAKER_04: I really do like Oregon at home.
- 53:31SPEAKER_04: Um it's funny because like no one's talked about Utah since what?
- 53:37SPEAKER_04: Since they dropped that Florida game, and they've just been quietly winning, winning, winning.
- 53:42SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, being a Pac-12 team.
- 53:44SPEAKER_04: They really haven't been on TV, they haven't had any marquee matchups, but they're solid.
- 53:49SPEAKER_04: They're this is gonna be a brutal ground game, like you know, who's gonna win in the trenches?
- 53:58SPEAKER_04: But Oregon has a much better air attack.
- 54:01SPEAKER_04: They can stretch the field with Bonex.
- 54:04SPEAKER_04: Um, it's not all ground and pound.
- 54:07SPEAKER_04: And so they're a little bit more multiple and a little bit more diverse on offense.
- 54:12SPEAKER_04: Um, and being at home, I just I like them to edge edge out the win here, especially coming off a loss.
- 54:17SPEAKER_04: I think they're in that wounded animal mode that you hear us talk about sometimes.
- 54:24SPEAKER_03: Uh I don't hate I don't hate that pick at all.
- 54:26SPEAKER_03: Um, this I mean the Oregon's averaging 527 yards of offense, Utah 464, 462.
- 54:33SPEAKER_03: These teams are both talented and they can play defense, but I'm like you, I'm expecting points as well.
- 54:37SPEAKER_03: I'm expecting a lot of rushing yards.
- 54:39SPEAKER_03: I don't think for a second that Oregon is gonna get blown off, get get blown off the ball like they were last year.
- 54:45SPEAKER_03: I think they're a lot tougher this time around.
- 54:47SPEAKER_03: So I think I think that's gonna be uh fun to counter.
- 54:50SPEAKER_03: And honestly, um this might be, although it's pretty unlikely, um, it might be a preview of what we see the Pac-12 championship game, especially if USC does, in fact, use the UCLA.
- 55:02SPEAKER_03: USC, Oregon, Utah are all sitting at 6-1 in conference.
- 55:05SPEAKER_03: So this is like this is effectively like the the semifinals of the Pac-12.
- 55:10SPEAKER_03: So it'll be interesting.
- 55:11SPEAKER_03: But it but this there are some scenarios where you might see it again.
- 55:14SPEAKER_03: So we'll see.
- 55:15SPEAKER_03: Keep your eye on the Pac-12.
- 55:16SPEAKER_03: Honestly, the Pac-12 is the most interesting football this weekend, if we're really being all that stuff has larger implications.
- 55:25SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 55:26SPEAKER_03: Uh, number 22, uh, Oklahoma State uh at Oklahoma.
- 55:30SPEAKER_03: This game is in Norman.
- 55:31SPEAKER_03: Um, this is the Bedlam, Battle of Bedlam, one of the last ones with Oregon, with sorry, with Oklahoma and Texas jumping to uh the uh SEC here pretty soon.
- 55:39SPEAKER_03: Mike Gunny's pre-saw got that.
- 55:41SPEAKER_03: Sad, sad, sad.
- 55:42SPEAKER_03: Oklahoma is a seven and a half point favorite, which I don't really know why, because Oklahoma is terrible.
- 55:47SPEAKER_03: They're five and five.
- 55:48SPEAKER_03: Um, although Oklahoma State has looked like a fraction of themselves um the last couple weeks.
- 55:53SPEAKER_03: Uh, what what's your take?
- 55:55SPEAKER_03: What do you got?
- 55:56SPEAKER_04: Well, first off, this is this is one of the things I hate about the the new landscape of college football.
- 56:03SPEAKER_04: Is we lose a rivalry like this that means so much to the people in Oklahoma and Medlam, yeah, totally.
- 56:10SPEAKER_04: You know, that that hate just trickles down to the viewer.
- 56:14SPEAKER_04: Like I love watching that, and you just don't get it when you have these conference shifts and realignments and things.
- 56:20SPEAKER_04: Um I this is this is an interesting game, too.
- 56:24SPEAKER_04: Like you said, I don't understand the spread.
- 56:26SPEAKER_04: And whenever you don't understand the spread, you've gotta assume that you're not as smart as the other people in the room.
- 56:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, whenever whenever a spread looks weird, you turn it's like lean lean into it.
- 56:40SPEAKER_03: Go, yeah, exactly.
- 56:41SPEAKER_03: Um, so obviously, Oklahoma's getting a lot of love from Vegas.
- 56:44SPEAKER_03: I wonder what this line opened, app.
- 56:46SPEAKER_03: I don't I don't really know.
- 56:47SPEAKER_03: Um Brent Venables has this is so here's the here's the other thing that we should we should talk about this game.
- 56:53SPEAKER_03: Um, you don't lose five games in Oklahoma.
- 56:57SPEAKER_03: No, I can't, I mean, I I can't tell you the last when was the last bad Oklahoma team?
- 57:02SPEAKER_04: They've been I mean they've been super consistent, granted.
- 57:04SPEAKER_03: Since like the 90s, like it's been 25 years of at least 8, 9, 10 win football.
- 57:12SPEAKER_03: Um here's what this here's what's at stake for this game, in my opinion.
- 57:16SPEAKER_03: Um Brent Venables uh can make all of that okay if he wins this week.
- 57:22SPEAKER_03: If you know, like finishing 6-5 or finishing 7-5 or even six and six is definitely not okay.
- 57:28SPEAKER_03: And people in Norman aren't gonna be happy about it.
- 57:29SPEAKER_03: But if he wins, if he wins the rivalry games, wins Oklahoma State, especially after already getting blasted 49-0 in the Red River against Texas, he has to win this game to stay in good graces and keep things on schedule.
- 57:41SPEAKER_03: Because Oklahoma is certainly going through a re-rebuild.
- 57:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it definitely helps.
- 57:46SPEAKER_04: Um it's something you can hang your hat on.
- 57:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 57:51SPEAKER_04: Uh Spencer Sanders is tough to deal with.
- 57:54SPEAKER_04: Um, it's this is one of those situations where you know Oklahoma has to feels like they have to win this game, like to save their season.
- 58:04SPEAKER_04: So I think you do get you the best version of them.
- 58:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 58:07SPEAKER_04: Um I kind of like them to pull this one out.
- 58:11SPEAKER_04: It's one of those games that you know, as a casual fan, you kind of check out in the third quarter and you're like, how did this happen?
- 58:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 58:20SPEAKER_04: Uh, but Oklahoma's still super talented.
- 58:22SPEAKER_04: I mean, I don't have like an X as a no's reason why.
- 58:26SPEAKER_04: I just think that this is one of those games where, you know, it's it's a rivalry, weird things happen, and this means this is their season.
- 58:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 58:35SPEAKER_03: Oklahoma 24-7 does a ranking of like the most talented rosters, like how many five stars, four stars, three stars.
- 58:42SPEAKER_03: Oklahoma's like number nine.
- 58:44SPEAKER_03: Like they are a very talented team.
- 58:46SPEAKER_03: I'm taking Oklahoma tier, Oklahoma here as well, because I can't understand it either.
- 58:51SPEAKER_03: I don't know why there's seven and a half point favorites at all.
- 58:53SPEAKER_03: So I'm just because I I can't understand that line, I'm leaning into it as well.
- 58:57SPEAKER_03: I will say, uh, one of the things that's been a really nice uh find for them this year, Eric Gray, was that the former Vols running back?
- 59:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he's one of um uh over a dozen, two dozen guys that left in the transfer portal um two years ago, right before uh Josh Hypool was hired, when um we had to start basically from scratch with a with a blank slate as a roster.
- 59:23SPEAKER_04: And yeah, he was a starting running back that left and is now balling out somewhere else.
- 59:30SPEAKER_03: He's having a big year.
- 59:31SPEAKER_03: 165 carries, 1,1913 yards, 6.7 yards a carry.
- 59:35SPEAKER_03: That's why he's seven, that's why seven and a half point flavors.
- 59:38SPEAKER_03: Vegas is saying they're gonna give him the ball a bajillion times, which they should.
- 59:41SPEAKER_03: Oklahoma State can't stop the run anymore now that Jim Knowles is gone.
- 59:44SPEAKER_03: Seems like the defense has fallen dramatically, and the game's at home.
- 59:47SPEAKER_03: That's that's why that line is seven and a half.
- 59:49SPEAKER_03: I think I think they're expecting to run the ball a ton and give the ball to Eric Gray, who's been really darn good this year.
- 59:55SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's that's that's got that's that's gotta be that's the only thing that's the only thing I only sense I can make of it.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that'll be a fun one.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_04: It'll be interesting to watch.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_04: Um that game could also be a blowout the other way.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_04: I mean, I really don't know.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_03: Could be.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_03: Uh let's let's let's talk about let's talk about our let's talk about our teams.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_03: Uh what's let's go with uh Tennessee first.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_03: Tennessee is playing number five.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_03: Tennessee is going to Williams Bryce Stadium, playing South Carolina six and four.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_03: Uh Tennessee is 21 and a half point favorite, over under 66 points, 7 o'clock on ESPN.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_03: What do you got?
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_04: Uh it's gonna be uh a dance party.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be a lot of EDM sandstorm, uh, but the balls are ready for it.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_04: They're rolling out uh some orange helmets this weekend, which will be cool.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_04: It's the first time I've got those on Twitter, they look sharp.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, they're they're they're they're they're cool, they're okay, they're good enough.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_04: Um this is another one where it's like take the over, take the points, take the vols.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_04: The only thing that gives me a little bit of trepidation, but is that it's away.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_04: But um South Carolina has not had a lead lead change all year where they've come back from any deficit.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_04: And um Tennessee is gonna get out to to a pretty quick start and never look back.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_04: I mean, this is a game where we could win by 30, 35 points.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_03: Well, let's just be honest.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_03: Spencer Rattler is not who he thought he was.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_03: We know, like I think I think for South Carolina, they thought they were gonna be better.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_03: I mean, six and four, they're they're gonna go bowling.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_03: Even if they lose this week, and a Clemson next week.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_04: They're gonna lose this week and a Clemson.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_03: And a Clemson, they're going bowling.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_03: But um, Spencer Rattler, I just think don't I just don't think he's been anywhere near the offensive injection shot in the arm they thought he was gonna be.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_04: Well, he has, and and their run, their their run defense is just horrible.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_04: They gave up 374 yards to to Florida.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_04: They only rushed for 44 last week, 44 yards the entire game.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_04: Um, I know it was in the swamp, but but still, um, this is the game where Tennessee, they're gonna play soft early.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_04: Tennessee's gonna run the ball, run the ball, run the ball.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_04: It might look a little slow, but that running is gonna open up some big time splash plays and it's gonna get ugly.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_03: I'm expecting Tennessee to do kind of what happened in Missouri as well.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_03: Because I mean, I think Tennessee, Tennessee fans know this.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_03: They gotta they gotta keep peacocking a little bit and they have to keep showing off 100%, yeah.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_03: Show everybody how just how much of an offensive juggernaut they are.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_03: So this is gonna be another notch in the and another notch in their belt for Tennessee.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_03: I I think you're right.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_03: I think they probably I think 66 is probably low, they probably go over, and they probably cover because Tennessee is motivated to do that given they only have this week and Vandy.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_03: Is it Vandy the last one?
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, Vandy.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_03: They've only got Vandy and South Carolina and Vandy left to to show the committee, to show the playoff committee, hey, we are the team that needs to get there.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_03: So I expect Hypel to have those guys doing exactly that.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_03: I think you're probably right.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_03: Um, anything else in that game?
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_04: No, I think something like, you know, 49 to 21.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_04: That sounds about right.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_03: Sounds about right.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_03: Uh, UAB is going number six LSU.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_03: Uh this game's in Tiger Stadium.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_03: Last uh game, last home game of the season for the Vol, uh for the excuse me, Tigers.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_03: Nine o'clock on ESPN 2.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_03: LSU is a 14 and a half point favorite, which isn't a lot.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_03: UAB is a pretty good group of five team.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_03: Uh they are uh five and five.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_03: Dwayne McBride, uh, the this is I'm I've talked about LSU all the time.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_03: UAB's um running back, Dwayne McBride, uh, he's an NFL back.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_03: 24 carries, 204 carries, 1407 yards, 17 touchdowns, a big piece of their offense.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_03: LSU is okay against the run, but they probably they're not the best.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_03: They're gonna UAB is gonna run the ball a lot.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_03: I have all the confidence in the world that LSU is gonna win, um, but I don't know if it's gonna be a blowout.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_03: I don't know um what version of uh Jaden Daniels on offensive line is gonna show up.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_03: Um so I'm I'm I'm for me, I'm looking at this game saying, let's see what I want to know, and this because obviously it's where I hate to say this, but you know, Mike and I are our brains are on the starting to get more and more for the postseason.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_03: What I want to know is how much did this offensive coordinator and offensive line fix the O-line issues from last week when we gave up seven sacks to Arkansas?
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_04: I don't think you're gonna find that out.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, well, I think the only way you find that out is if they look really bad.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_04: Because if they look good, it's still UAB.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_04: It's a 5-1 UAB.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but I'll take no news is good news.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_03: I mean, no news is good news is they did what they're supposed to do.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_03: They protected him.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_03: Jaden Daniels threw the ball a lot, they ran the ball a lot.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_03: So at the very least, let me let us see that going going into Texas AM next week.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_03: Texas AM the week after, they have an impressive for all their woes, and they've got a lot.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_03: We can laugh at them a long time.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_03: We didn't even talk about the fact they lost again, just whatever.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_03: They lost again.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_03: Um uh they they are gonna they'll test our offensive line.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_03: Give us a lot of things.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_04: They're still super talented.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_04: That'll be a game to kind of look at because you know, they'll that'll be their Super Bowl, that'll be their year end, that'll be they have nothing else to play for other than to play spoiler.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_04: So that'll be one that you know you you kind of have to show up for.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_03: Did you see what the Texas M player said on Twitter about LSU?
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_03: Something about serial.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_03: Uh we won't mention on the podcast, but if you're interested, you can go, you can probably find it if you like.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_03: Um, wasn't very pleasant, but um, yeah, I like LSU to win and cover.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_03: Um, I I just I I want to see, you know, this we are, you know, again, we are examining these teams as if they are going to make challenges in the postseason.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_03: So for LSU, um, I'm looking to see our offensive line hopefully, hopefully play better.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_03: Um, I think that's all all the games.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_03: We talked about Bedlam, talked about um any other games you want to talk about.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_03: Oh, let's talk about Taylor uh number four TCU uh at Baylor.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_03: We already talked about a little bit.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_03: Games at Waco, 12 o'clock on Big Fox, uh Big Fox Saturday.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_03: Only two and a half point favor, over under 58 points.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_03: They're expecting a lot of points.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_03: I'll say that.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_03: Um uh again, you and I are you got you and I are gonna be pulling for Baylor.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_03: It'd be nice to see TCU here, TC to TCU to lose.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_03: Um, it's just what version of Baylor is gonna show up.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Baylor is still well coached, they're still very talented.
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_04: Um, and TCU, you know, they they just they're they're coming off a road win, a very emotional road win.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_04: Is this you know, they know what they have to play for, but that doesn't mean that it's not still a little bit of a trap game where they might get off to a slow start.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_04: Um these emotions are hard to replicate week after week uh for these, you know.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_04: For these college kids.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_04: It's just tough to stay focused, especially when you're getting a lot of praise.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_04: You're getting a you know, you're you're looking up at yourself, you're seeing that you're right now, you're in the college football playoff.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, guess what?
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_04: College football playoff doesn't start for several more weeks.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_04: You still got to do your job.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_03: You sure you do.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_03: And this is one of those spots for me where the line doesn't make sense.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_03: I thought it'd be TCU minus six and a half, you know, and TCU minus two and a half.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_03: That's a situation where it's like, okay, I'm just gonna lean into that as well.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_03: Um, Dave Aranda, and I don't know, I'm still, despite this year being less than what I had hoped for Baylor, and I think what Baylor hoped for themselves as well, I'm still super bullish on him as a coach, especially on defense.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_03: So I'm so I'm interested to see what he can do in terms of an X and O's scheming up some things to slow down TCU, Max Duggan, Quentin Johnson, and those guys they've got some absolute contre meal, they've got some absolute ballers.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_03: Uh, so that's that's gonna be the trespass.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_03: And they're playing at home.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_03: And Baylor, I mean, Waco is gonna be that stadium is going to be live.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_03: I mean, I'm expecting it to be hostile as hell.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_03: Um, so who knows?
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_03: Maybe Baylor saves the Valls day, gets them gets gets gets Valls to playoffs.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_04: I kind of think that this game, just getting the feel of it, I I kind of think this game goes under.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_04: I don't have a great feel on the win, who wins and loses, but this game kind of feels to me like it's a little bit conservative.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_04: Um, Baylor can really bow up on defense, uh, as we've seen in the past.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_04: It's kind of what Dave Verena Haynes have had on.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_04: Um, there's no reason for PCU to come in and play super risky on the road.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_04: They just came off of like a game where their defense played lights out.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_04: Uh, this game might be one of those games where they kind of feel each other out for a little while.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_04: Maybe there's some splash plays, but maybe there are a couple turnovers.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_04: I kind of think this game plays a little bit lower than what the number is.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_04: I don't know what who that benefits.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_04: Probably Baylor, if I'm being honest.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_04: Probably Baylor, yeah.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, because they're the underdog.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_03: And I think that I just think TCU has the weapons for a shootout.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_03: I mean, Blake Shapen I like, but I just think TCU is better built, especially with Christian Johnson Johnson on the outside.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_03: For if they're if if it if this is going to be a super offensive game, I think TCU.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_03: Both these teams scored very low points, very few points last week.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_03: 13 and 3.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_03: So I don't hate that call at all.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_03: Um, this this very well might be, given who these coaches are, given what they do, Sonny Dykes and um so well, Sonny Dykes and Aranda, I I under 40 under 58 seems like a pretty pretty good spot to me.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_03: And I I I'm with you.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_03: I don't I don't know who's gonna win this game.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_04: I yeah, I just I I do think it's interesting, you know, Baylor with their back against the wall after kind of a beatdown um and at home.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's a sneaky spot.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_04: That's all I'll say.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_04: I'm not I'm you know, I don't know how it's gonna play out, but it's it's definitely an interesting dynamic.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_03: Uh all right.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_03: I think that's it for let's let's let's let's I think any other games you want to mention uh before we wrap this thing up.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_04: Uh I think we hit the the biggest chunk there.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, I think we did too.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_03: I was talking a little bit about Virginia Tech Hokies uh going to Liberty Flames.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_03: Uh I cannot believe I'm saying this.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_03: Virginia Tech Hokies are two and eight.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_03: The Liberty Flames are eight and two.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_03: Holy smokes! Uh, this game is going to be played in Williams Stadium, which is in uh Lynchburg, and Virginia Tech is a 10-point dog.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_04: Um Yeah, why again?
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_04: This is gonna go on my board of why would you schedule this?
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_04: Liberty beat Arkansas, Liberty beat BYG.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_03: Liberty is Liberty is as an ACC team.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_04: Why are you going to Liberty?
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_04: Somebody, somebody please get these people on the phone for me.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_03: It's a it is a good question.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, it's funny.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_03: Liberty's only two losses, 37-36, a one-point loss awake.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_03: And if you remember that game, they had a chance that two-point conversion, they missed it, and then this loss to Yukon last week, 36-33.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_03: Like, Liberty is like a hair away from being 10-0 and being the play and being the group of five playoff spoiler.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_03: Um, they're just a good team.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_03: Hugh Freeze is a good coach.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_03: Um, I'll be honest, I wonder if this isn't the not the curtain call, but the almost curtain call for Hugh Freeze uh in the coaching shuffle that's gonna come up.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_03: I know who just signed his extension, but as well as he's doing, I don't think that matters.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_03: I think there's gonna be I think there's gonna be a bigger program who's gonna who's gonna call him up.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, maybe Auburn.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_04: Um, Liberty's gonna win.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_04: It's just you know, I I don't know.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_04: I think this is this is just such a prime setup for Liberty to make a statement again, you know, in the home state.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_04: You know, they've had such a good season.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_04: Tech is just it's hard to keep these kids engaged this late in the season when you've got a two and eight hanging over your head.
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_04: You know, you're trying different things, you're you're you're doing some different things on on the rotations, you're trying to find putting guys out there formula, yeah.
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and and it's just a mismatch.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_03: And honestly, this is being one of the few opportunities where I mean, I I fully expect Virginia Tech football to get back to the brand of Virginia football that we played and UVA too well.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_03: And both of those are just better brands than Liberty.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_03: So this is one of the rare chances where Liberty has a chance to knock off the perennial Titan in the state of Virginia, which has been the Hokies.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_03: So I think you're gonna get the best version of Virginia Tech uh of the Liberty as well.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_03: And they're playing and they're they're just playing a Virginia Tech team that just frankly doesn't have the talent to match up.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_03: So I also like Liberty to Liberty Tech.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_03: I don't know if I don't know if they cover, um, but I this is probably gonna be this game is probably not gonna be that competitive, I would think.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_04: I mean Virginia Tech could easily make it a game, and you know, it's a noon game.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_04: It could be interesting for a while, but Liberty just, you know, they're good on both sides of the ball.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_04: They're just well coached, and you know, it's just a tough spot.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_03: It's a tough spot.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_03: Uh very cool.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_03: All right, that is the end of all the games.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_03: Are there any more games you want to talk about before we jump into the playoffs a little bit?
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, let's talk about the playoffs in a little bit of a different way.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_03: Okay, cool.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_03: Let's do that.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_03: All right, playoff rankings uh didn't change much.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_03: Uh, number one, Georgia, two Ohio State, three Michigan, four TCU, five Tennessee.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_03: Uh LSU six, they moved up one spot.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_03: Everybody, what happened was Oregon was sixth.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_03: They lost, they went down to 13.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_03: So pretty much everybody moved up one.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_03: LSU, USC, Alabama, and Clemson all moved up one.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_03: Um, so right now, what you're hearing on the media right now, everywhere you talk is all about just hypotheticals.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_03: Hypotheticals, hypotheticals, hypotheticals.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_03: Who if they win?
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_03: What if they win?
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_03: What if they win?
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_03: Mike and I are going to talk to you about why you shouldn't worry about any of that.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_03: And mainly because, frankly, there's a lot of football left to be played.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_04: Yes, none of the stuff you're hearing really matters at this point.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_04: You know, I mean, you've hear you've heard a lot about USC.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_04: Guess what?
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_04: They're ranked seventh right now.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_04: It doesn't matter.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_04: If they win out, they still have a lot of football, a lot of good teams ahead of them on their schedule.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_04: There's a lot of stuff that just is noise right now.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_04: And it's just for drama, for drama's sake.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_04: Um, and this is not the bachelor, this is college football.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_03: And on top of that, also, like, so what what's happening with a lot of the hypotheticals out there is they're all saying, like, oh, this team is in, this team is in, this team is in, assuming they're going to win out.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_03: Which, and for some teams might be a given.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_03: Um, for Tennessee, actually, it's a given.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_03: Tennessee is not losing a South Carolina or Vanderbilt.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_03: I feel really damn good about that.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_03: Um, but there are some of these teams that people are putting the playoffs that are not done, they've got a lot of football left.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_03: TCU has Baylor, Iowa State, and probably K-State in the Big 12 championships.
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_03: All three of those teams are well-coached teams.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_03: I recognize TCU is the best of those four.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_03: Those are all losable games.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_03: TCU could easily so before we start talking about hypothetical TCU, let's let them play some football because they've got to go.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and everyone's talking about if TCU is deserving and complaining about TCU's schedule to this point, which we are not really part of that group because we've been enjoying the Big 12 all year long.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_04: But TCU, if they win out, they absolutely deserve to be in.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_04: They've got a lot of good football games ahead of them as well.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_03: Uh, other team that we also shouldn't be talking about, but but we already are for any reason.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_03: Anyway, USC.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_03: UCA plays at UCLA, which is uh on the crosstown game that we're talking about already, um, versus Notre Dame, who has totally gotten off the mat and a very respectful team.
- 1:15:17SPEAKER_03: And then if they win both of those, they are in the Pac-12 championship game, which is going to be against the Oregon or a Utah, which is gonna be a hard game.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_03: Those are three ranked games that USC has to win.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_03: There is no point in talking about USC's playoff chances when you when they've got three ranked tough opponents of they could lose two of those, Mike, in my opinion.
- 1:15:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_04: And you're yeah, I mean, I I don't that's that's absolutely correct.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's it's it's really funny to sit here and watch them try to explain things every week and try to justify this change or that change, and and talk about all the ch you know, what have you, when we're we're we're moving the goalposts, nothing has been settled.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's just it's just too soon.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_03: And and the the all the other team that uh that they they have they have some football, they're also gonna need some help, some some chaos.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_03: UNC, UNC, Georgia Tech, not very good, uh, versus NC State, who's ranked, and then versus Clemson.
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_03: Um UNC is now now to be fair, they are not getting talked about in the top eight of the other eight are, but if they win all three of those games and there's a bunch of chaos ahead of them, they could be talked about.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_03: But don't worry about that because Clemson, NC State, and Georgia Tech are three tough tests that we will so we'll find out about UNC on their own as well.
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_03: Uh, there's just another team that's uh that's tough.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_03: And then the last one, of course, the big one, of course, is Michigan, Ohio State.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_03: One of them's gonna be in, one of them's not.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, the whole sort of leg that this question mark stands on is you've got Ohio State at two, Michigan at three.
- 1:16:58SPEAKER_04: One of those teams wins, one of those teams loses, one of those teams is likely out.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_04: I don't see them leaving one in.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_04: There's just too much going on.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_04: Um, even with a close game.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_03: You don't see them leaving, because you can see them both of them getting in, is that what you said?
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_04: The loser is not gonna be in.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_04: Uh unless no, I just I don't see it.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_04: There's there's just too much chaos.
- 1:17:22SPEAKER_04: Um, so that's that's gonna create a spot, and we'll see who slides in.
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah, still lots of fun stuff to happen.
- 1:17:28SPEAKER_04: Just relax and enjoy the end of the season.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_03: Don't get ahead of yourselves.
- 1:17:34SPEAKER_03: The reality is 97% of the conversations that you're hearing on the media right now about play of hypotheticals all will be moot points because of so many games are still left to be played, especially the conference championship weeks, where we're gonna know, you know, the the hypotheticals, just wait till wait till all the games are played.
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_03: There's probably gonna be a couple, you know, there's probably gonna be a couple of those scenarios we're gonna talk about, but for now, enjoy because I'm so sad.
- 1:17:59SPEAKER_03: Week 10 is over.
- 1:18:00SPEAKER_03: We have two more weeks of college football.
- 1:18:02SPEAKER_03: This season has gone by like that, it always does.
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_03: I hate it.
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_03: College football is so fast.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_04: Um, and then it's Oregon lost to Arizona.
- 1:18:11SPEAKER_04: Prime example.
- 1:18:12SPEAKER_04: They're out.
- 1:18:13SPEAKER_04: Nobody saw that coming.
- 1:18:15SPEAKER_04: Nobody saw it coming.
- 1:18:16SPEAKER_04: There's still those things are still out there in in the college football.
- 1:18:23SPEAKER_03: We're due, we are due for one or two monster upsets.
- 1:18:27SPEAKER_03: I don't know if it's gonna be Kentucky, possibly you.
- 1:18:30SPEAKER_03: Possibly you might be LSU, something Texas AM could could crazy could happen.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_03: TCU could definitely trip up.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_03: Um there there are just spots.
- 1:18:40SPEAKER_03: There are just spots in this.
- 1:18:41SPEAKER_03: Um, I like to think LSU maybe knock off Georgia.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_03: There are spots that um it's just tough to keep keep kids focused.
- 1:18:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there's so so one more week at a time, keep fighting the good fight.
- 1:18:52SPEAKER_03: Don't don't pay attention to hypotheticals.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_03: It's you I we do this every year, and every year we've all so much of that is just wasted conversation because once Converse Championships are over, almost all those decisions are already made for you.
- 1:19:04SPEAKER_03: So just stay, stay the course, enjoy enjoy the moment while it's last.
- 1:19:07SPEAKER_03: Because the reality is, and this is so true, in 60 days, we're all gonna be like, oh my god, college football is over.
- 1:19:13SPEAKER_03: This is so sad.
- 1:19:14SPEAKER_03: No more college football for eight months.
- 1:19:16SPEAKER_03: So don't look at it.
