- 0:00Speaker 1: But I did again kim a microphone coming off of
- 0:03Speaker 1: its support.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Beam here only you can do them only.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Apparently, I guess the only one. I just go to
- 0:14Speaker 1: maneuver it and it pops out of it screws back on,
- 0:16Speaker 1: but it'll it'll take a minute to do that, so
- 0:20Speaker 1: I'll just.
- 0:20Speaker 2: If you're watching us on YouTube or Twitter or Facebook,
- 0:23Speaker 2: you can see Craig holding the microphone like you're old
- 0:26Speaker 2: the old time radio broadcaster.
- 0:29Speaker 1: A lot of them will do that.
- 0:30Speaker 2: You know.
- 0:30Speaker 1: You know the guy I think he still is on
- 0:33Speaker 1: like overnight on one of the things. What's his name?
- 0:35Speaker 2: Pharrell on the bench A guy as as that boys.
- 0:39Speaker 1: He he came to this radio station when we were
- 0:43Speaker 1: in the other building way back this would have been
- 0:46Speaker 1: late nineties and when we were at seventh of Lamar
- 0:51Speaker 1: and Pharrell on the bench. Nice guy, really nice guy.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Uh coards.
- 0:55Speaker 2: He has had v anyway his whole deal.
- 0:58Speaker 1: And we watched him doing his show when we set
- 1:00Speaker 1: him up in a conference rooms in Austin for something
- 1:03Speaker 1: and he just kind of roams around the room with
- 1:06Speaker 1: a handheld mic really back and before that that's how
- 1:09Speaker 1: he was doing it, at least back then. Anyway, it
- 1:11Speaker 1: was how he was doing. It wasn't stationary, just kind
- 1:14Speaker 1: of roaming around. I don't know if it's nervous energy
- 1:16Speaker 1: or just the way he rolls the way he operated,
- 1:18Speaker 1: at least the way he did.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Back then.
- 1:22Speaker 1: So anyway, I was talking about going into the break
- 1:27Speaker 1: about the bowl games that Texas has played in and
- 1:30Speaker 1: having had the opportunity to to work on the broadcast
- 1:34Speaker 1: both as an analyst, and those games I mentioned the
- 1:36Speaker 1: Sun Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, and Cotton Bowl for Texas and
- 1:46Speaker 1: then one am I leaving out in ninety five Sugar
- 1:50Speaker 1: Bowl as analyst and and then Holiday Bowl and then
- 1:54Speaker 1: in the play by play role Cotton Bowl in two
- 2:01Speaker 1: and then after that was another Holiday Bowl that was
- 2:06Speaker 1: a loss to Washington State three. Then the back to
- 2:09Speaker 1: back Rose Bowls the one over Michigan and O four,
- 2:11Speaker 1: and then of course the National Championship Game the win
- 2:13Speaker 1: over USC and five. Then it was Alamo Bowl and
- 2:16Speaker 1: six back to Holiday Bowl and O seven Fiesta Bowl
- 2:21Speaker 1: in eight, then nine the National BCS National Championship Game
- 2:26Speaker 1: against Alabama had.
- 2:28Speaker 2: The losing record.
- 2:28Speaker 1: In twenty ten, back to back Alamo Bowls in twenty eleven, No,
- 2:34Speaker 1: it was another Holiday Bowl in twenty eleven, and then
- 2:37Speaker 1: back to back Holiday Bowls or Alamo Bowls in twenty
- 2:39Speaker 1: twelve and twenty thirteen. First time they were in the
- 2:42Speaker 1: Texas Bowl in twenty fourteen. They didn't make a bowl
- 2:45Speaker 1: in fifteen or sixteen, and then under Tom Herman there
- 2:50Speaker 1: was a Texas Bowl in seventeen, and then of course
- 2:54Speaker 1: the Big Sugar Bowl went over Georgia following twenty eighteen,
- 2:57Speaker 1: and then the back to back Alamo Bowls again in
- 2:59Speaker 1: twenty two, nineteen and twenty twenty. No bowl appearance the
- 3:03Speaker 1: first year under Sark and then Alamo Bowl in twenty
- 3:07Speaker 1: twenty two, and then of course last year the College
- 3:09Speaker 1: Football Playoff with the Sugar Bowl and the loss to Washington.
- 3:16Speaker 1: If the long Worns win this standalone playoff game and
- 3:21Speaker 1: it only had one of those that was the then
- 3:23Speaker 1: BCS National Championship, it wasn't affiliated with a bowl. It
- 3:27Speaker 1: was out in California in Pasadena, the Rose Bowl, but
- 3:30Speaker 1: it was a standalone postseason game.
- 3:32Speaker 2: That's what this is. This playoff game is standalone.
- 3:35Speaker 1: But if they win, they moved to the quarterfinals and
- 3:38Speaker 1: that would mean going to the Peach Bowl because it's
- 3:40Speaker 1: part of the bowl system. At that point, and that
- 3:42Speaker 1: would be the first time ever for Texas.
- 3:45Speaker 2: To play in the Peach Bowl.
- 3:46Speaker 1: If they then win that, then it rolls back to
- 3:49Speaker 1: what I was saying at the top of the hour,
- 3:51Speaker 1: that they would go to the Cotton Bowl. And that's
- 3:54Speaker 1: what certainly Long wrnon fans would hope for because it
- 3:56Speaker 1: would mean they would be in the semifinals.
- 3:59Speaker 2: In all probably.
- 4:01Speaker 1: It would take kind of an unusual well, it would
- 4:05Speaker 1: take an extraordinary set of circumstances for it not to
- 4:07Speaker 1: be the Cotton Bowl. If they reached the semifinals, it
- 4:09Speaker 1: would mean Oregon would be out, and I think it
- 4:11Speaker 1: would mean Boise State would be out. It'd have to
- 4:14Speaker 1: be higher seated teams than Texas getting knocked out in
- 4:19Speaker 1: order for the Long Orange to play in the Orange Bowl,
- 4:23Speaker 1: which is the other semifinal instead of the Cotton Bowl.
- 4:25Speaker 1: But all signs would point to being in Arlington and
- 4:28Speaker 1: Jerry World for the Cotton Bowl in the national semifinals.
- 4:31Speaker 1: If they win this Saturday over Clemson and then win
- 4:33Speaker 1: the following week or week and a half when they
- 4:37Speaker 1: play on New Year's Day, they would play at the
- 4:40Speaker 1: Peach Bowl, a Chick fil A Peach Bowl in Atlanta
- 4:42Speaker 1: back at Mercedes Benz Stadium and that would be against
- 4:44Speaker 1: Arizona State. If they win both of those games, they
- 4:48Speaker 1: would then roll back to the State of Texas and
- 4:52Speaker 1: would in all probability play in the Cotton Bowl against
- 4:55Speaker 1: Oregon on January tenth, and then if they win that,
- 5:01Speaker 1: then they go to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. Again,
- 5:04Speaker 1: that's a standalone postseason game. It's not a bowl game.
- 5:07Speaker 1: This is a standalone national championship game, which would be
- 5:11Speaker 1: a third trip to Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, is
- 5:15Speaker 1: what it would be if it works out that way.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Start pointed out at the news conference yesterday that it
- 5:21Speaker 1: was definitely going to be he said, a road and
- 5:28Speaker 1: how things would be different, and they'd have to stay
- 5:32Speaker 1: healthy and there'd have to be a lot of things
- 5:34Speaker 1: to go into it in order for them to get
- 5:36Speaker 1: on that role.
- 5:37Speaker 2: And it would be seventeen games, which.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Might appear to be a little mind boggling to focus
- 5:43Speaker 1: at seventeen games. I should point out high school football
- 5:47Speaker 1: this weekend, several of the teams are playing their sixteenth game,
- 5:50Speaker 1: their final game of the year, and the FCS playoffs
- 5:55Speaker 1: can include teams that wind up playing sixteen games if
- 5:57Speaker 1: they didn't receive a buy. So not unprecedented, but certainly
- 6:03Speaker 1: been unusual to see it happen that way. Coming up
- 6:07Speaker 1: in a few minutes, Greg Tepper, Managing editor, Dave campbells
- 6:10Speaker 1: Texas Football magazine, which one is, and we'll talk about
- 6:13Speaker 1: college football and high school football. We'll do that later
- 6:18Speaker 1: this hour. After that, we'll hear a little bit of
- 6:21Speaker 1: sound from Quinn yours from yesterday from the media availability,
- 6:26Speaker 1: so we'll here. We'll hear some sound from Quinn coming up,
- 6:28Speaker 1: the long orange quarterback who is feeling better and better,
- 6:31Speaker 1: and that's good. Same thing with Calvin Banks. Those guys
- 6:34Speaker 1: are feeling a lot better, so that's good to hear,
- 6:37Speaker 1: and it'll give give them an opportunity to be full
- 6:43Speaker 1: blast ready to go against Clemson on Saturday afternoon.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Our coverage on Saturday.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Will begin at noon with countdown with the show coming
- 6:53Speaker 1: your way at noon, counting down toward it from Bevo
- 6:57Speaker 1: Boulevards in the wind Ship Circle area over there, and
- 7:01Speaker 1: that will be in the in the you guys called
- 7:05Speaker 1: it the Hook Them Hangout all season long, was at
- 7:07Speaker 1: the Deal.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Them Hang Out Unbeeva Boulevard, winship circle.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it's got all of those identity points on there.
- 7:15Speaker 1: So Cam will be joined over there by Mike Hardball,
- 7:18Speaker 1: Harge and Mark Henry. That's at noon Network pre game
- 7:22Speaker 1: at two o'clock and the kickoff, i can tell you,
- 7:25Speaker 1: is scheduled scheduled for three ten, with the possibility of
- 7:32Speaker 1: a five to ten minute slide depending on the length
- 7:36Speaker 1: of the Penn State SMU game because that's the first game,
- 7:39Speaker 1: but they're kicking off just past eleven, so it probably
- 7:42Speaker 1: will be done in time before Texas kicks off on that.
- 7:46Speaker 1: All right, Up next, we visit with Greg Tepper to
- 7:48Speaker 1: talk I go and college football in the state. When
- 7:51Speaker 1: we continue on Sports Medio AM thirteen under the zone
