- Greg: What's up guys, welcome to the Thursday, March 26th edition of Beliefs, Ballots and Bets. The show where we go talk about a little bit of everything from faith and family and politics and current events and all that kind of important stuff, all the way down to some sports and sports gambling and probably some silly stuff along the way just to have a little bit of fun. Glad you're here. Let's get started with today's show. We get the lovely pleasure today of recapping an amazing three and ⁓ yesterday, which has a sports gambler. Anytime you, ⁓ you go three and ⁓ and avoid any losses, it is always a pleasant, pleasant day. ⁓ we actually had three underdogs yesterday. had Illinois state plus seven and a half against Dayton. We had Boston plus two and a half at home against the okay. See, and we had Minnesota plus one and a half at home against Houston. All three underdogs, all three won the game outright. So if you sprinkle a little bit on the money line, then you had a pretty good payday last night. ⁓ hopefully that means we wake up today in a good mood. The three and O day leads us to a pretty, perfectly into today's theme. Today's theme is actually discipline during success. We don't chase wins. We repeat good decisions and we just continue the process that got us here. cannot let success make you undisciplined as easy as it is. It's easy to get caught up in the moment. We all know this. 1 Corinthians 10, 12 says, so if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you do not fall. Winning can be dangerous if you're not careful. Sometimes you get caught up in the moment, things are going well, it's easy to get a little loose, it's easy to take some shortcuts and lose the discipline that actually led to the success you're enjoying. In short, you kind of start to trust yourself a little bit. You trust that gut more than you trust the process that you created. Remember why you created it. There was a reason for it. This is what the Bible is warning us about. It's easy to realize when things are down and we know that temptations are tough and you have to stay strong in your faith and stay strong in your character that God calls you to be. But what about when things are going well? Success can make you very careless and success isn't just a goal for today. The goal is to stay disciplined enough to keep winning and hopefully win in the big picture, which is eternity in heaven with our father. We all know that life will throw plenty of highs and lows, ups and downs, peaks and valleys. And let's be real, the devil will absolutely use any and all of these highs or lows to try to get at you and tempt you to get you off of God's path. That's why it's crucial that we implement a daily routine of quiet time, prayer time, time in the Bible, time with friends and family, and anything that keeps you grounded, keeps you ultimately tied to who you truly are, and keeps you on the path that you know God has called you to be. Because ultimately, our path to winning and losing is determined by us. And the ultimate goal is to reign forever with him and his kingdom. On to today's plays. First play of the day, we're gonna stick with yesterday's theme, riding the underdogs. We're going to take Texas plus the seven and a half versus Purdue. My model has this as a closer game. I've got this as a four and a half five point game likely. So obviously we've got a little bit of a numbers advantage there. I just think Texas is athletic enough to keep it within a couple of possessions. Anything over six. like Texas in this spot. Take the seven and a half for Texas to keep it close. And let's, let's get the W there and finish off after a good strong day. Play number two, we're going to go with Iowa versus Nebraska. I've actually got Iowa as a slight favorite on my model. So there again, that makes it pretty simple. If we can get them at plus two, it's obviously going to be a tight game. Most likely it's going to come down to the last couple of minutes. If I can get the better team as a slight dog at plus two points, that's what I'm going to roll with. So give me Iowa plus two as the second play. And then the third play is we're going to roll with the team that I have been really high on all year long. I'm going to take Houston minus two or two and a half against Illinois. Houston this year has just been so impressive to me. Their speed and athleticism, the link, their consistency, their ability to play different styles, control the tempo. I've really been a big fan of this Houston team all along. I've got them as a really good chance to possibly win it all. So given the chance to take them at a short number here, I have been thoroughly impressed with Illinois. I'm in no way trying to shortchange them. Illinois has been super impressive this entire season and rolling into this tournament. But I just, I feel really good about Houston and where they are right now. So I'm going to, I'm going to take Houston to get the W and cover the short number. So as we recap guys, the plays for today, we got Texas plus seven and a half, Iowa plus two and Houston minus two. Hopefully that'll get us another three and O day, which again will not change anything that we do. It will not change our process at all. We are going to continue to only fire when we think we have an advantage. We are going to try to stay disciplined. And then we're going to try to use some of what we take off these gambling models that we build and the discipline and the process that we build here. And hopefully we're going to figure out ways to keep applying this as this show grows and use it some other avenues of life. And hopefully we can lead us all to tie things back to the ultimate goal, which is getting stronger in our faith, spending more time in the Word, spending more time in prayer, and trying to figure out exactly what God's calling us to do and who He's calling us to be so that we can honor Him and glorify Him in all that we do.
