- 0:00Speaker 1: The most important question to ask someone before you marry
- 0:03Speaker 1: them or even date them. It's one more thing.
- 0:06Speaker 2: I'm what sex are you?
- 0:13Speaker 1: Just to be sure check the junk. I think bigger
- 0:16Speaker 1: than that is a dog. Does your dog sleep in
- 0:19Speaker 1: bed with you? That's a bigger dividing line than whether
- 0:22Speaker 1: you're actually a dude or a chicken. Oh my god,
- 0:29Speaker 1: this has become very clear to me having been UHD
- 0:34Speaker 1: online dating for a total of like five months, and
- 0:36Speaker 1: I will never do it again. It's not for me.
- 0:38Speaker 1: But man, that's a big one. And uh, I don't
- 0:45Speaker 1: know if there's any bridge in that gap on a
- 0:46Speaker 1: whole bunch of this stuff. So I was looking at start.
- 0:48Speaker 1: It started this conversation with my son. Yesterday, we went,
- 0:52Speaker 1: I want to eat something somewhere different for Memorial Day,
- 0:55Speaker 1: somewhere fun. So we went to this restaurant that's along
- 0:58Speaker 1: the local river, restaurant on the river and got a
- 1:01Speaker 1: deck on the river and all that sort of stuff,
- 1:02Speaker 1: and it's cool. So we went nate and the food
- 1:04Speaker 1: was good and it was fun and Memorial Day issue.
- 1:08Speaker 1: There are people there that had dogs at the restaurant.
- 1:10Speaker 1: It's fine. It's kind of half outdoor, but still, you
- 1:14Speaker 1: brought your dog to the restaurant. Not everybody does that
- 1:16Speaker 1: act a restaurant we both stumbled out of many years ago. Yes,
- 1:20Speaker 1: this is true institution. Yeah, but I was looking up
- 1:24Speaker 1: the percentages. It's hard to nail these down for variety
- 1:27Speaker 1: of reasons. Part of it is you always end up
- 1:29Speaker 1: with a whole bunch of surveys that clearly Global vet
- 1:33Speaker 1: Link says eighty percent of American pet owners take their
- 1:36Speaker 1: pets on trips annually. Of course you're a yeah exactly,
- 1:39Speaker 1: you're a pet food or a vet thing or whatever.
- 1:42Speaker 1: But the percentages are growing. I think we all realize this.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Of restaurants that allow dogs in them, Yeah, from zero
- 1:49Speaker 1: to some several, from zero to if you're not old
- 1:55Speaker 1: enough to have lived this, from zero, it was inconceivable
- 1:59Speaker 1: that anybody would even ask the question, be okay, if
- 2:05Speaker 1: I brought my dog in here? What would be the
- 2:08Speaker 1: answer to every restaurant you go to, especially in like
- 2:12Speaker 1: living in California now pretty much always there's at least
- 2:15Speaker 1: ad dog there, uh, if not many, many, especially if
- 2:17Speaker 1: there's any sort of outdoor deck, and then whether you
- 2:21Speaker 1: want to do that or not. And then there's the
- 2:26Speaker 1: take the dog in your car. Oh, I skip apart.
- 2:28Speaker 1: So there are some dogs on the deck there at
- 2:30Speaker 1: the restaurant. And I have to be careful here because
- 2:35Speaker 1: my two sons have grown up with many, many, many
- 2:40Speaker 1: dogs around them, causing problems all the time. They're one
- 2:44Speaker 1: of them. In particular, my kids is quite anti having
- 2:47Speaker 1: a dog around, which is unfortunate, but he just can't
- 2:50Speaker 1: imagine why you'd bring a dog to the restaurant. Meant
- 2:53Speaker 1: you had to drive there with the dog. And he's
- 2:55Speaker 1: done many road trips with the dog in the car
- 2:57Speaker 1: and does not like it at all because of everything
- 2:59Speaker 1: that with it. And if you like it, fine, if
- 3:02Speaker 1: you like it, absolutely fine, But you got to find
- 3:04Speaker 1: other people that like it also, is the thing. And
- 3:09Speaker 1: if you drive, I've done road trips with a dog,
- 3:12Speaker 1: you gotta stop and let it out a lot. You
- 3:13Speaker 1: got hair all over everything. Sometimes they throw up if
- 3:17Speaker 1: there's winding roads, there's just a lot involved. And if
- 3:21Speaker 1: you like that sort of thing, again, fine, you gotta
- 3:24Speaker 1: have companions who also like it. Anyway, so you drove
- 3:27Speaker 1: with the dog in the car to the restaurant, and
- 3:29Speaker 1: then it's at the restaurant and we were sitting there
- 3:30Speaker 1: and then we saw several boats go by or they
- 3:32Speaker 1: had dogs on the boat, which should be a similar
- 3:34Speaker 1: sort of thing. And again, fine, if you like that
- 3:36Speaker 1: sort of thing. And then I was looking into the
- 3:39Speaker 1: what percentage of people sleep with their pets. This is
- 3:42Speaker 1: a little more solid information based on the polling looks
- 3:46Speaker 1: like legitimate polling. American Kennel Club says forty five percent
- 3:51Speaker 1: of dog owners let their dogs sleep in their bed.
- 3:53Speaker 1: That seems a little high to me, but even in
- 3:55Speaker 1: like regular surveys, it's a third. Sixty two percent of
- 4:01Speaker 1: people let small dogs sleep in their bed, forty of
- 4:04Speaker 1: medium sized dog owners let them sleep in their bed,
- 4:06Speaker 1: only a third of large dog owners let them sleep
- 4:08Speaker 1: in their bed, but sixty two percent of small dog owners.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's a hard no. Hey, glad we got together,
- 4:16Speaker 2: enjoyed the reindeer games. I'm going over there to sleep.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Good night you and your dog, good night.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Your cat's sleep in your bed. Michael, No, no again.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I am perfectly okay with the fact that you do this,
- 4:31Speaker 1: but it is a it is an absolute red line. Weird.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Can't be a couple thing for me. I'm not taking
- 4:40Speaker 1: road trips with the dog in a car and we're
- 4:44Speaker 1: not sleeping with the dog in the bed. I just
- 4:46Speaker 1: can't do it. I can't do it. Yeah, if I
- 4:49Speaker 1: tried to do it, because like you're really nice and
- 4:52Speaker 1: everything else about you, I absolutely think it's fantastic and
- 4:55Speaker 1: I think we could make a great couple. I would
- 4:57Speaker 1: spend my entire time fighting back bitterness or resentfulness by
- 5:03Speaker 1: having a dog waking me up in the bed or
- 5:06Speaker 1: being annoying in the car. And I realized, for a
- 5:09Speaker 1: lot of you listening right now, you love that. You
- 5:11Speaker 1: absolutely love it. I know you. I have been with you,
- 5:15Speaker 1: I have written in cars with you and then and
- 5:18Speaker 1: the old bed thing and everything else or airplanes got
- 5:21Speaker 1: to help the airplanes. You love it. But man, my
- 5:24Speaker 1: only point in this is not right or wrong. It's
- 5:26Speaker 1: just it is a hard lot dividing line.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Because if you it reminds me of that do you
- 5:32Speaker 2: use the bathroom in front of each other topic that
- 5:34Speaker 2: we talked about a few weeks ago, or it was like,
- 5:37Speaker 2: oh my god, you what said both sides of the question. Yes,
- 5:42Speaker 2: you're a lunatics, right, both sides right?
- 5:45Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I had that very conversation with a woman,
- 5:50Speaker 1: and well, I'll look at it from the other side
- 5:52Speaker 1: with the dog thing to be more pro that side.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I realize you would be resentful about the dogs on
- 5:59Speaker 1: the floor and doesn't isn't it bed with you anymore?
- 6:01Speaker 1: You'd be you would hate that every night, you'd be
- 6:04Speaker 1: a little resentful that the dog can't get in bed.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Is now, really you love the dog and this person
- 6:10Speaker 2: has hurt the dog's feelings.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Or having to take your boring road trips without the
- 6:14Speaker 1: dog in the car because you love it so much.
- 6:16Speaker 1: So yeah, I don't know. That's just where they're way way, way,
- 6:19Speaker 1: way way more pets. There's all kinds of data around
- 6:23Speaker 1: this way way way more pets, and we spend way
- 6:25Speaker 1: more money on pets than anybody probably has in the
- 6:27Speaker 1: history of the world. But that is a huge dividing line.
- 6:30Speaker 1: And I know my son's a hardcore He'll never be
- 6:32Speaker 1: in a relationship with somebody who's going to want to
- 6:34Speaker 1: have a dog in the bed or in the car,
- 6:36Speaker 1: and that eliminates I told him, I said, I understand
- 6:39Speaker 1: because I feel the same way. But I'm telling you,
- 6:41Speaker 1: you're cutting out like half the chicks available out there
- 6:46Speaker 1: by taking that stance. It's a tough one. It is
- 6:49Speaker 1: a tough un like half. I mean seriously, not exaggerating.
- 6:53Speaker 1: It might be half. A college girls have a dog
- 6:55Speaker 1: that they expect to sleep in the bed and ride
- 6:57Speaker 1: in the car with them. Wow.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I just it looks stressful to me, the dog
- 7:03Speaker 2: everywhere lifestyle. I mean a grocery store, I'm in a
- 7:07Speaker 2: hardware store, I'm at a restaurant. I don't want to
- 7:10Speaker 2: be dealing with a dog.
- 7:11Speaker 3: What about a small dog.
- 7:13Speaker 1: But it's first dog, Paris Hilton dog.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Eh, that's better because the thing's unlikely to cause any problems.
- 7:21Speaker 2: But and again, this is like you said, it's not
- 7:24Speaker 2: I'm not judging anybody or saying you're wrong. I'm right.
- 7:27Speaker 2: It's just interesting that I just it looks stressful to
- 7:31Speaker 2: me trying to, you know, control your dog in a
- 7:33Speaker 2: restaurant or a bar or whatever. Judy and I we
- 7:36Speaker 2: used to go up to our mountain cabin pretty regularly,
- 7:38Speaker 2: and frankly, getting.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Backster ruined it.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Not ruined it completely, but he upped the stress because
- 7:44Speaker 2: he would puke a lot, so he had to change
- 7:46Speaker 2: his feeding schedule, and then he was hungry, and then
- 7:49Speaker 2: you know, have to drive super carefully then get up
- 7:51Speaker 2: there and feed him, and then you know, we we'd
- 7:54Speaker 2: go off for long hikes. Well he would whimper and
- 7:57Speaker 2: cry and he wanted to come, and I was like,
- 7:58Speaker 2: all right, now we're walking in dog, we're not lost hiking,
- 8:02Speaker 2: and we got to watch him because there are snakes
- 8:04Speaker 2: and the rest of it.
- 8:05Speaker 1: And it just.
- 8:07Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Yeah, And it's not like I lack the capacity to
- 8:11Speaker 2: love or anything. Please ask me about my children. I
- 8:16Speaker 2: just don't get how it's not more stressful for people
- 8:19Speaker 2: as most a pleasurable. But again to each thrown.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Well, yeah, but my only point really is I don't
- 8:25Speaker 1: understand why this hasn't become more of a conversation because
- 8:30Speaker 1: it is such a red line. It should be. I
- 8:34Speaker 1: think it should be like an all dating profile website
- 8:36Speaker 1: stuff like that. It should be like the very top line.
- 8:39Speaker 1: I take my dog everywhere. A lot of people say
- 8:42Speaker 1: you have to love dogs. Okay, I love dogs, Oh yeah,
- 8:45Speaker 1: I absolutely love dogs. Don't want them ride in the
- 8:47Speaker 1: car with me, and I don't want them in the bed.
- 8:49Speaker 1: So then we might know, just kind of have at
- 8:51Speaker 1: the top line everybody one hundred percent no on dogs
- 8:54Speaker 1: sleeping in bed or one hundred percent always. I will
- 8:56Speaker 1: be miserable the rest of my life if my dog
- 8:58Speaker 1: doesn't get to sleep in bed. See don't ways to
- 9:00Speaker 1: I'm with each other. I guess m he's down that road.
- 9:03Speaker 2: No dog in the car, But like, for how about
- 9:06Speaker 2: just your your running errands or something.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I don't want a dog in a car. I don't understand.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Why would wand up other people?
- 9:12Speaker 2: Can you hate dogs and you hate people who permit it?
- 9:16Speaker 1: What's the upside of bringing the dog in the car?
- 9:19Speaker 1: The dogs to come and.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Stick his nose out and smell stuff and oh his
- 9:23Speaker 2: ears flap and it's just fantastic.
- 9:26Speaker 1: That's fine again if you like it. I just don't
- 9:28Speaker 1: want to do it. And so the problem being is everybody,
- 9:31Speaker 1: whether you're a pro or anti, you've cut the dating
- 9:34Speaker 1: pool like in half, which is already hard. Now you
- 9:40Speaker 1: cut it in half.
- 9:41Speaker 2: You rather end up with a woman who lets her
- 9:43Speaker 2: dog sleep in the bed or a dude. It's about
- 9:46Speaker 2: a coin flip for me.
- 9:47Speaker 1: God, I honestly feel like I could. I could. I could.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Is he kind of pretty and effeminate looking?
- 9:53Speaker 1: I don't know, right are Can we just not have
- 9:55Speaker 1: sex and just be happy together?
- 9:57Speaker 2: Just be buddies.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Yeah, but I'm ever east to the dog things.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Stay on your half of the bed, all right, pal,
- 10:04Speaker 2: All right, then at least you're not at all.
- 10:06Speaker 1: You gotta wear sweats warming nudity. Fair enough.
- 10:13Speaker 3: What about a girl that has a small dog and
- 10:15Speaker 3: a baby stroller dressed up, pushes it around everywhere.
- 10:21Speaker 1: And it's so disappointing because you meet somebody and they're
- 10:23Speaker 1: so nice and everything, every single other aspect of it.
- 10:26Speaker 1: But I just I'd have to be hypnotized to not
- 10:29Speaker 1: be resentful at some point that I'm trying to sleep
- 10:32Speaker 1: with the dog in the bed.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Well, and there are a lot of married couples I
- 10:35Speaker 2: don't know what percentage, but that sleep separately sometimes as
- 10:39Speaker 2: they age. Maybe it's snoring or sleep problems or stuff
- 10:42Speaker 2: like that. A lot of tossing and turning. Could you
- 10:44Speaker 2: see that? Maybe I prefer not to.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I could do that. Maybe that's the answer on
- 10:50Speaker 1: that one.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Like I said, yeah, enjoy the rein to your games.
- 10:53Speaker 2: You ever a little squeeze and say it's a sleepy time,
- 10:56Speaker 2: you and the dog.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Enjoy yourselves.
- 10:59Speaker 2: I'm heading to Joe's slumber palace right down the hall.
- 11:04Speaker 2: If you need something yell.
- 11:07Speaker 3: You don't need to drive with the dog, Just have
- 11:08Speaker 3: one of your kids stick their head out the window
- 11:10Speaker 3: the whole time.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I like it. If you need something yell heading somebody
- 11:16Speaker 1: broke in, I'm on it.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Slumbering over here.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Have the dog look into it.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Well, I guess that's it.
