- 0:24Speaker 1: I'm excited for you to feed me. I gotta check
- 0:27Speaker 1: out your sat You were really funny. And guys, if
- 0:30Speaker 1: we did have shoe cam, her shoes are like a
- 0:32Speaker 1: game changer.
- 0:34Speaker 3: I can lift it.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Look, that's hilarious it is.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Hey, can you see that? Look? I don't know if
- 0:39Speaker 3: you can get the angle air cute?
- 0:42Speaker 2: What are you I'm talking of?
- 0:44Speaker 1: Because we were just so you guys know, I did
- 0:46Speaker 1: try to preheat the grease today has smoked up the
- 0:49Speaker 1: whole room if you can see a little bit of smoke.
- 0:52Speaker 2: But what are you gonna have me eating today?
- 0:54Speaker 3: Okay? So today I am just making my fried chicken wings,
- 0:58Speaker 3: fried chicken wings. And we got some salad, which as
- 1:00Speaker 3: you can see, is very basic. Yeah, into salad.
- 1:04Speaker 1: And then you could go ahead and list off your
- 1:06Speaker 1: ingredients for your dish for all the listeners.
- 1:08Speaker 3: All right, y'all. So for the fried chicken we got,
- 1:11Speaker 3: of course, can I go? Okay? So we got the
- 1:14Speaker 3: chicken wings right here, all right. Then we got some buttermilk,
- 1:20Speaker 3: some flour, of course, got the flour right here, bam.
- 1:23Speaker 3: And then we got season ends. We got some lawery
- 1:26Speaker 3: season salt. We got some onion powdered garlic powder, and
- 1:29Speaker 3: I think this is pepper pepper, ye, yeah, and that's
- 1:32Speaker 3: some pepper. It's pretty basic. Sometimes I use more ingredients,
- 1:36Speaker 3: sometimes I don't, but fried chicken is pretty basic.
- 1:39Speaker 1: And then you have a salad, which, by the way,
- 1:42Speaker 1: I was like nibbling on your cucumbers and tomatoes. I
- 1:45Speaker 1: was like, damn, I haven't had it, like usually have
- 1:47Speaker 1: my salads pre made now right? Oh, Like damn, why
- 1:50Speaker 1: don't I ever have.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Whose like cutting stuff up? We're in a microwave age
- 1:56Speaker 3: right now, so it's like everything's prepped for you, so
- 1:59Speaker 3: I can understan.
- 2:00Speaker 2: And these bag salads are really good nowadays.
- 2:02Speaker 3: They really are.
- 2:02Speaker 1: They really are, and they're like three dollars versus like
- 2:05Speaker 1: piece mess. But you're a blue cheese girl, and I
- 2:08Speaker 1: was confused by that. Why I'm gonna try it with
- 2:11Speaker 1: you today. I don't remember the last time I had
- 2:13Speaker 1: blue cheese, but I was like, I don't think I
- 2:16Speaker 1: messed with blue cheese.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Like that.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I'm a ranch girl, but I was like blue cheese.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Yes, I put blue cheese on my wings, my salads
- 2:24Speaker 3: because so at one point I was doing Keto. So
- 2:28Speaker 3: blue cheese is good for Keto when you're doing the
- 2:30Speaker 3: Keto diet.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Oh, difference between blue cheese and.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Ranch, it's just it just goes more with like Keto
- 2:37Speaker 3: type meals, you know what I mean.
- 2:38Speaker 1: So I guess I won't be Keto. I gotta lose
- 2:41Speaker 1: a lot of weight, but I won't be Keto. So
- 2:43Speaker 1: go ahead, step into the kitchen. Show us how you
- 2:45Speaker 1: make your fried chicken. What you do first?
- 2:48Speaker 2: All right? Us through it? What's the first thing? You
- 2:50Speaker 2: got your chicken role?
- 2:52Speaker 3: So what I'm gonna do is I'm season the chicken.
- 2:54Speaker 3: I also season the flour, but I'm gonna start seasoning
- 2:56Speaker 3: the chicken. And I don't measure nothing. When I feel
- 3:01Speaker 3: like it's seasoned enough, I stop. That's how I usually work.
- 3:06Speaker 3: So that's how my mother taught me. And I'm trying
- 3:10Speaker 3: to remember.
- 3:12Speaker 2: That's so funny. The last time you cook this was when.
- 3:15Speaker 3: It's been a minute. So it's been a little minute.
- 3:19Speaker 2: How often would you be doing fried chicken?
- 3:22Speaker 3: I love fried chicken. So yeah, so now I just
- 3:26Speaker 3: buy it usually, but probably three times a week.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Wow, yeah, wow, three times a week back in a
- 3:33Speaker 1: day or now back in the day.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Yeah, No, I'm not. I'm not eating fried chicken three
- 3:37Speaker 3: times a week now maybe twice, but that's hilarious. Yeah.
- 3:40Speaker 1: If you ask my daughter what does she want to eat,
- 3:42Speaker 1: it'll be real chicken, not chicken nuggets, real.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Chicken, real chicken. Does she like fried chicken?
- 3:51Speaker 1: She does, Okay, she does, But it's just funny to
- 3:54Speaker 1: hear because most people, if you're fast food on the road,
- 3:57Speaker 1: you're gonna offer your kids chicken nuggets. She is very
- 4:00Speaker 1: adamant about it being real chicken. Okay, it's three years old,
- 4:03Speaker 1: real chicken from the car seat.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Okay.
- 4:06Speaker 1: But all right, So you're seasoning up the meat with
- 4:10Speaker 1: scarlet powder, onion powder, lais, yes, and pepper and pepper awesome.
- 4:16Speaker 2: And then you haven't put the buttermilk in yet.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Not yet. So I'm gonna put the butter milk, the
- 4:21Speaker 3: buttermilk on here after I season it up a little bit.
- 4:25Speaker 3: And then what I do is, after that, I'm gonna
- 4:27Speaker 3: dip it in the flour. Well, I'm seasing the flour.
- 4:29Speaker 3: So I'm gonna just it's okay gloves. Yeah, I'm what
- 4:37Speaker 3: I do though, I can wipe it on here, right,
- 4:39Speaker 3: you can, Okay?
- 4:40Speaker 2: So I used the I was the we usually get
- 4:43Speaker 2: send those home with you too.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Oh, okay, give you an extra one and that one
- 4:49Speaker 1: I can put it in wash Ma, you're gonna get too, okay.
- 4:52Speaker 1: So take me back to what was going on in
- 4:54Speaker 1: the air of fried chicken and salads.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Basically, I I was living in this part of North
- 5:02Speaker 3: Philadelphia called Northern Liberties, and I was off at the
- 5:07Speaker 3: community college which is CCP Meunie College, Philadelphia. I was
- 5:10Speaker 3: also working, but I was doing telemarketing. It's not really
- 5:13Speaker 3: much going on there. Yeah, And that's what was going on.
- 5:17Speaker 3: And I was actually with my dude at the time.
- 5:19Speaker 3: I was nineteen, about to be twenty, and I was young.
- 5:24Speaker 3: We were together and so I was like, basically it
- 5:27Speaker 3: was easy meals that I knew how to meet. So
- 5:29Speaker 3: and we didn't have a lot of money.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Oh, you guys were like, are you talking about you
- 5:33Speaker 2: and Kevin?
- 5:33Speaker 3: Yeah, we were living together.
- 5:34Speaker 1: You guys were living together. This is right after college
- 5:36Speaker 1: or right now, this is during college. This is during
- 5:39Speaker 1: college yeah, during community college in Philadelphia. Yeah, so yeah,
- 5:42Speaker 1: you guys were grinding together. There were you guys married yet?
- 5:46Speaker 3: No? Okay, no, we were just like babies, just meeting
- 5:51Speaker 3: and going to school before we dropped out.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, going to school before you dropped out.
- 5:58Speaker 3: Yeah, before we both dropped out.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Yes, So you were working telemarketing. He was doing.
- 6:07Speaker 3: He was working at a city a place called City Sports,
- 6:11Speaker 3: and then he started getting into comedy because of community college.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Of course we met at community college and then he
- 6:18Speaker 3: got into comedy, and then from there I started working
- 6:22Speaker 3: for the phone company. He started doing comedy. I just
- 6:25Speaker 3: started going to sporting all the shows and began making
- 6:28Speaker 3: more fried chicken.
- 6:31Speaker 1: And then when does he's doing comedy? You're not yet
- 6:35Speaker 1: doing comedy at that time or no.
- 6:37Speaker 3: But here's the thing, a lot of people don't know.
- 6:39Speaker 3: I got class clown in high school. So I've always
- 6:42Speaker 3: been doing comedy my whole life, like always making my
- 6:44Speaker 3: family laugh, always watching it and studying it, probably since
- 6:48Speaker 3: I was like nine years old, honestly, because my parents
- 6:51Speaker 3: all they used to do is play Richard pryor Fred Stanford, Moms,
- 6:56Speaker 3: maybe Dick Gregory, like they always were playing albums in
- 7:01Speaker 3: the house. They would send me upstairs sometimes, or they
- 7:03Speaker 3: would think that they sending me upstairs, and I would
- 7:06Speaker 3: be at the top of the stairs listening to all
- 7:07Speaker 3: of raunchy comedy, listening to all of that. Yeah.
- 7:12Speaker 1: So, now when he's pursuing comedy and this is you
- 7:15Speaker 1: have a passion for, I'm guessing at the time, So
- 7:18Speaker 1: what is going on at the time when he's doing
- 7:20Speaker 1: comedy and you're are you like playing? Are you just
- 7:24Speaker 1: supportive girlfriend? Do you know what you want to do
- 7:27Speaker 1: at that time?
- 7:28Speaker 3: So, honestly, I was in school for acting and for
- 7:34Speaker 3: theater and drama at the time. I did not realize
- 7:37Speaker 3: that I was going to be doing comedy at all.
- 7:39Speaker 3: I always was like into comedic movies, but didn't know
- 7:43Speaker 3: that I would eventually be doing stand up. Actually, I
- 7:46Speaker 3: didn't start stand up until I moved to La.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, so you're going to school for acting. How's
- 7:53Speaker 1: your acting doing while you're like struggling actress and he's
- 7:56Speaker 1: struggling comedy. You guys have this commonality, I'm guessing funny.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Yeah right, Yeah, that's what drew us to each other
- 8:04Speaker 3: to begin with in the first place, because we were
- 8:06Speaker 3: always laughing and cracking on each other. Jawning, as they
- 8:09Speaker 3: say in Philly, is when you constantly bagging somebody. So
- 8:12Speaker 3: that's what I always did, practical joker, always doing stuff
- 8:16Speaker 3: like that. So yeah, that's what pretty much probably why
- 8:20Speaker 3: we ended up together in the first place.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Yeah, so watching that grind close up, you still wanted
- 8:27Speaker 1: to pursue it. Watching it close up, you get the
- 8:30Speaker 1: front row seat of like, how hard it is?
- 8:32Speaker 3: Right, I never thought it was hard. Okay, Yeah, of course,
- 8:36Speaker 3: when you love something, the grind of it, it's just okay,
- 8:39Speaker 3: this is what makes you better anyway. But if you
- 8:42Speaker 3: love something, it's okay, this is just the journey. This
- 8:45Speaker 3: is what it's going to be. And of course there
- 8:47Speaker 3: was some days where you know, financially, but when you're
- 8:52Speaker 3: having fun, I don't think it really matters.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean to some degree.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Now you guys, and you guys had a family too,
- 8:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean, I mean you guys have a family.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Sorry I'm trying.
- 9:02Speaker 1: I mean we have ki who this little pivotal process
- 9:05Speaker 1: of your story. So you guys are having a family.
- 9:08Speaker 1: You guys have a family. Are you guys are still struggling?
- 9:12Speaker 3: No, sir, So when we moved to California. He had
- 9:17Speaker 3: got a deal, so by then it was a little
- 9:19Speaker 3: less of a struggle.
- 9:21Speaker 2: You guys didn't have kids yet.
- 9:22Speaker 3: No, we didn't have kids yet.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Okay, So you moved from Wow.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Yeah, from Philly to Callie together. We weren't married. And
- 9:31Speaker 3: my family, of course, did not like that.
- 9:32Speaker 2: But I was like, listen, and you guys dropped out
- 9:34Speaker 2: of college to do that.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Yeah, we dropped out of We knew we wasn't supposed
- 9:37Speaker 3: to be in school.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Okay, so you guys packed up and moved. Oh, I
- 9:40Speaker 1: know your family wasn't happy.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Oh yeah, they weren't. And especially I come from my
- 9:44Speaker 3: family's very religious and my grandmother was a minister. Two
- 9:48Speaker 3: uncles or ministers, three aunts ministers. So I was raised
- 9:52Speaker 3: you don't move in together before marriage, and YadA ya, YadA.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Of course I got all of that back last too.
- 9:58Speaker 1: How long were you together before you guys decided to
- 10:00Speaker 1: pack up?
- 10:01Speaker 3: And it was about three and a half years. Three
- 10:03Speaker 3: and a half years, so you four years? Actually, he
- 10:06Speaker 3: gets it.
- 10:07Speaker 2: What so he got holding.
- 10:08Speaker 3: So back in the day, there was these things called
- 10:10Speaker 3: holding deals, and so you would get holding deals. And
- 10:13Speaker 3: this is when there was like big money like NBC ABC.
- 10:18Speaker 3: So he got a holding deal and so we took
- 10:20Speaker 3: some of that money to move out here. And then
- 10:23Speaker 3: I also was working for Ladelphia, which is this company,
- 10:27Speaker 3: and for me at that age back then, making that
- 10:29Speaker 3: kind of money, it was a big deal. I had
- 10:31Speaker 3: a four oh one K and so I dipped into
- 10:34Speaker 3: my four oh one K and was like, Okay, I'm
- 10:35Speaker 3: taking some of this money out and I'm using this
- 10:37Speaker 3: to move. I actually packed up. I had a grand
- 10:40Speaker 3: Cherokee at the time, cause I had a little bit
- 10:43Speaker 3: of money back then. When I got turned twenty one,
- 10:45Speaker 3: I got some case money. I was able to stack
- 10:48Speaker 3: some of that and get a truck and that was
- 10:51Speaker 3: actually the vehicle that drove him back and forth to
- 10:54Speaker 3: a lot of comedy shows too, cause he didn't have
- 10:57Speaker 3: a car. Wow. Yeah, So I had the car and
- 11:01Speaker 3: it was fun though. It was just like it's my nature,
- 11:04Speaker 3: Like my mom and dad has been married almost fifty
- 11:07Speaker 3: five years.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Wow, and so I.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Watch how my mom holds the family down, and that's
- 11:11Speaker 3: what she did, so I just get it naturally from her. Yeah.
- 11:14Speaker 1: So at this time, your parents are in your ears?
- 11:17Speaker 1: Are you starting again?
- 11:18Speaker 2: His ears?
- 11:19Speaker 1: Like yo, I moved across country where you know Bonnie
- 11:22Speaker 1: and Clyde. Are you gonna put a ring on it?
- 11:24Speaker 1: Does that start to hit in your head? Or is
- 11:27Speaker 1: he feeling the pressure because now you guys are thugging
- 11:30Speaker 1: it in LA? And do you have any friends also?
- 11:32Speaker 3: Oh? Yeah? So we have been coming back and forth
- 11:35Speaker 3: to LA for different things, visiting because he would get
- 11:39Speaker 3: booked for jobs and so we were coming back and forth.
- 11:42Speaker 3: So I had made friends. So when we got here,
- 11:45Speaker 3: of course, and the comedy world is pretty small, you
- 11:47Speaker 3: met people and stuff like that. But my family, no,
- 11:50Speaker 3: because they know that I'm pretty independent too, and I
- 11:54Speaker 3: don't believe you should pressure a man to do anything.
- 11:56Speaker 3: You let a man do what a man wants to do.
- 11:58Speaker 3: As soon as you try to pressure a man. No,
- 12:00Speaker 3: you're not pressuring me in the you know what I'm saying?
- 12:02Speaker 3: Like he was the one I honestly was low key.
- 12:05Speaker 3: I don't know I want to get married, you know
- 12:06Speaker 3: what I mean. I don't know if necessarily I want
- 12:08Speaker 3: to be married, But one days we're going to get married.
- 12:11Speaker 3: So we went and we got married in Vegas. It
- 12:14Speaker 3: was we got married in Vegas. I should have known. Shit,
- 12:18Speaker 3: wasn't gonna work? Because no, I'm just thinking that, and
- 12:21Speaker 3: I think back, I'm laughing because why my bouquet was
- 12:25Speaker 3: like this? The probably had three flowers in the bouquet?
- 12:31Speaker 2: Was it like Elvis? Who did it? And all that?
- 12:33Speaker 3: It wasn't Elvis, but it might as well have been Elvis. Okay.
- 12:37Speaker 3: My wedding dress was from Express. Okay, first of all,
- 12:40Speaker 3: I wasn't even gonna wear a wedding dress and my
- 12:41Speaker 3: mom and was like, you need to go get a dress,
- 12:44Speaker 3: and I was like do I have to?
- 12:45Speaker 2: Like so what about it? At that?
- 12:47Speaker 1: Looking back, you saw that set said it wasn't gona work.
- 12:50Speaker 1: It wasn't the three flower bouquet.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Looking in hindsight, I'm thinking like, damn, Okay, Tori, you
- 12:56Speaker 3: should have been a little bit more. Wasn't a bigger
- 12:59Speaker 3: wedding or But I just always maybe that's the clown
- 13:02Speaker 3: in me. Maybe why I was thinking, we're just profession
- 13:04Speaker 3: our love for each other, so that's really you know
- 13:06Speaker 3: what I mean? Yeah, but no, it should have been
- 13:09Speaker 3: done a little better.
- 13:10Speaker 1: A lot of people spend a lot of money on
- 13:12Speaker 1: on weddings. That usually doesn't dictate where it's out. It
- 13:15Speaker 1: dictates some of the death you started.
- 13:17Speaker 3: That is true.
- 13:19Speaker 1: But okay, so you guys get married a couple of
- 13:21Speaker 1: years into LA or.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Oh yeah, we get married and about a year later.
- 13:26Speaker 3: And this is what pissed me off too, because I
- 13:29Speaker 3: didn't want kids until I was about thirty five, and
- 13:32Speaker 3: then I ended up getting pregnant and I had just
- 13:34Speaker 3: got a sports car. Okay, he had bought me a
- 13:37Speaker 3: sports car for my birthday at BMW. Yeah. I dis
- 13:40Speaker 3: was like my dream car and he got me my
- 13:41Speaker 3: dream car is twenty six. And so I'm whipping around
- 13:44Speaker 3: LA with my convertible Z four and the next thing
- 13:47Speaker 3: I know, I'm pregnant and I'm like, can't fucking have
- 13:50Speaker 3: no kids? In no Z four?
- 13:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and I was.
- 13:53Speaker 3: I lived at Sunset in Point Setias, so I was
- 13:55Speaker 3: like a party girl. I'm still why I used to
- 13:57Speaker 3: live over there right in your Bosston Nova.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Yes, literally, I will walk to Boston over because you
- 14:02Speaker 1: know they got them burgers TOI laur in the morning.
- 14:04Speaker 1: But you walk to Running, Yeah, and you can walk
- 14:06Speaker 1: to that was literally my cross streets.
- 14:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:10Speaker 1: But I was more in Hollywood in Point Seddio, but
- 14:13Speaker 1: the next street was Sunset.
- 14:15Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, Okay, sunset in Points SETI okay, shout.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Outs to that area. I loved living over there.
- 14:20Speaker 3: But listen, I loved it.
- 14:22Speaker 2: I am trying to tell me nothing.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Like I belong in Hollywood. It is what it is.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Yeah, so y'all was living over there and you start
- 14:32Speaker 1: making a family, Now is there pressure? So now I'm
- 14:35Speaker 1: guessing that you guys are in your early twenties, money
- 14:37Speaker 1: is starting to roll. He's gifting cars. I mean, yeah,
- 14:40Speaker 1: in my twenties, ain't no dude ever give me a car.
- 14:42Speaker 1: I'd be lucky if they don't give me the bill
- 14:45Speaker 1: at Burger King.
- 14:46Speaker 3: I was a brat. I was a little bit of it.
- 14:48Speaker 3: I also did spoiling too, you know what I'm saying.
- 14:50Speaker 3: So it was reciprocal and he knew that was my
- 14:52Speaker 3: dream car. I actually was getting my hair done and
- 14:55Speaker 3: he pulled up to the hair salon with a red
- 14:58Speaker 3: bow on it.
- 14:58Speaker 2: It was like Jersey so cute.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I love it.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, So at the time, what are you doing
- 15:06Speaker 1: while he's he's doing comedy? Right, this is obviously before
- 15:10Speaker 1: soul Plane.
- 15:10Speaker 3: I think this is yeah, this is around soul Plane era.
- 15:13Speaker 3: I was actually training, so I was doing it and
- 15:16Speaker 3: I had booked some jobs. I booked national commercials at
- 15:19Speaker 3: and t Ford. Me and him had did a commercial together. No,
- 15:23Speaker 3: we didn't do a commercial before that, just yet. But
- 15:25Speaker 3: I had did Supermarket Sweep. Do you remember that show?
- 15:28Speaker 2: I remember that?
- 15:29Speaker 3: Okay, I had booked that. I booked this show on
- 15:31Speaker 3: E called Screenplay. So I was working too, but really
- 15:35Speaker 3: mainly training, like with how it's studying with Howard Fine
- 15:38Speaker 3: and Leslie Kahns, Mike Pointer, doing everything that you should
- 15:43Speaker 3: to be up on your craft so you can go
- 15:44Speaker 3: and do auditions and stuff.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Yeah, and then but then the family comes along and
- 15:56Speaker 1: then slow you down a little bit.
- 15:59Speaker 3: It did. Yeah, when I got pregnant, it slowed me
- 16:01Speaker 3: down a lot because I was used to always going
- 16:04Speaker 3: out and hanging and that's what we did. We would
- 16:07Speaker 3: go party a lot. When I got pregnant, it was
- 16:09Speaker 3: just like damn, man, I can't drink either. I had
- 16:11Speaker 3: to so up real quick.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Yeah, so change things.
- 16:15Speaker 2: And then you had the kids are how far apart?
- 16:18Speaker 3: So my daughter was born in two thousand and five,
- 16:22Speaker 3: my son was born in two thousand and seven, so
- 16:23Speaker 3: there's two and a half.
- 16:24Speaker 2: So you were like really mominent.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, okay, okay, yeah, So all this is going on,
- 16:30Speaker 1: you're still pursuing acting. At what point do you start
- 16:33Speaker 1: to lean this. We're gonna risk Okay, y'all, we're gonna
- 16:37Speaker 1: risk it. I already smoked up the kitchen. If you
- 16:40Speaker 1: see me stuttering, it's because, okay, it's about to go down.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Cucumbers, should we do this?
- 16:46Speaker 2: Go ahead? Did you season all of them already?
- 16:48Speaker 3: I seasoned? Yep, And this flower is seasoned. I probably
- 16:51Speaker 3: put a little bit more seasoned in the flower.
- 16:52Speaker 2: So do you have to heat up first?
- 16:54Speaker 3: You have to heat it up?
- 16:55Speaker 2: All right, here we go. Okay, I want to hear this.
- 17:02Speaker 1: What I'm trying to capture just so your notry is
- 17:05Speaker 1: when the I don't want to put myself in your shoes,
- 17:09Speaker 1: but I definitely am. You know your ex husband, but
- 17:15Speaker 1: you're now ex husband. He's pursuing this comedy. Yeah, becomes
- 17:19Speaker 1: this massive success. You're taking care of home, you're holding
- 17:22Speaker 1: down the family. You also have dreams. What I'm trying
- 17:25Speaker 1: to capture is now with you pursuing comedy and you
- 17:30Speaker 1: knowing that, hey, deep down I had this pursuit of comedy.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Was there a part of you that was holding back
- 17:36Speaker 1: that pursuit because one of you guys was already doing it.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Oh for sure, Yeah, for sure?
- 17:42Speaker 2: Or did you ever talk to him about it at all?
- 17:44Speaker 3: Definitely did not talk to him about doing stand up
- 17:49Speaker 3: as One day his friend Jay Okerson, his girlfriend tried it,
- 17:54Speaker 3: and I overheard him saying, I wish she would ever
- 17:57Speaker 3: try comedy. She better not, So I was like, oh, okay,
- 18:01Speaker 3: but I've been. I was studying it with him. I
- 18:04Speaker 3: was going to every comedy club. I would be in
- 18:06Speaker 3: the back like, hey, you know writing stuff down, Oh,
- 18:08Speaker 3: you should try it like this, and like not even
- 18:10Speaker 3: realizing that's what I was doing.
- 18:12Speaker 1: But that's a and that's a what you're talking about,
- 18:16Speaker 1: and that's a real emotion and real life. Anybody in
- 18:20Speaker 1: your shoes would have overheard that and been like, oh,
- 18:23Speaker 1: because if I was, if I wanted to be an
- 18:26Speaker 1: actress in my husband wanted to be an It's almost
- 18:29Speaker 1: like the first one who says it own sword owns
- 18:32Speaker 1: it in a way depending on your relationship, but most relationships,
- 18:34Speaker 1: it does get a little weird if you're both pursuing
- 18:36Speaker 1: the same exact goal.
- 18:38Speaker 3: So I guess, like you ever see the show as
- 18:41Speaker 3: miss marvelous. The life is marvelous, Mabel.
- 18:43Speaker 2: I think that I didn't. I didn't see it, but
- 18:45Speaker 2: I've heard.
- 18:45Speaker 3: It, Okay. So it's funny because it's like that in
- 18:49Speaker 3: a sense. And like I said, I didn't see stand
- 18:52Speaker 3: up per se in my future. Always acting. Acting has
- 18:56Speaker 3: been my passion since I was six years old. I
- 18:58Speaker 3: told my mother I was going to be out in
- 19:00Speaker 3: Hollywood acting, and I did school plays, I did church plays.
- 19:04Speaker 3: That's what I always did. That's why we met in
- 19:06Speaker 3: theater arts class in college. But stand Up I did
- 19:10Speaker 3: watch it and was around it since I was a
- 19:12Speaker 3: little kid too.
- 19:13Speaker 1: So it was almost then you get heavily ingrained and
- 19:17Speaker 1: it just being right. So from that point, at what
- 19:22Speaker 1: point do you say, Okay, I'm gonna say I want
- 19:27Speaker 1: to do this and say it openly because I'm sure
- 19:30Speaker 1: it wasn't eating.
- 19:31Speaker 2: At you a little bit like curiosity.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Yeah, you're helping, You're helping in the behind the scenes, right, yeah,
- 19:36Speaker 1: of course.
- 19:37Speaker 3: And I would be watching and studying and I would
- 19:39Speaker 3: see people doing certain I was like, I can do it,
- 19:41Speaker 3: like I'm I'm ready, I want to do it, like
- 19:44Speaker 3: I was itching for years to do it, and I
- 19:46Speaker 3: already had stuff written down. I had a journal of
- 19:50Speaker 3: jokes already.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, no one knows about this.
- 19:53Speaker 1: No, yeah, that's a that's a reality. So then what
- 19:59Speaker 1: happens when and you decide, okay, I'm coming. I had
- 20:01Speaker 1: to use this, but for lack of a better word,
- 20:03Speaker 1: they're coming out of the closet saying, hey, surprised, this
- 20:06Speaker 1: is something I really want to.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Do, because it takes a lot of balls to do too.
- 20:10Speaker 1: In your situation, your situation, it has to be taken
- 20:14Speaker 1: a lot of balls to be like, ah, I'm sorry,
- 20:17Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna go after what I want.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Balls and liquor.
- 20:20Speaker 1: So take me back to that moment when you just
- 20:23Speaker 1: you say, fuck it, I'm gonna I'm gonna do it.
- 20:25Speaker 3: So my cousin Darnell at the time, he was living
- 20:30Speaker 3: with us, and he knew he actually he learned about
- 20:33Speaker 3: me wanting to do it, and so he was just like, Cuz,
- 20:36Speaker 3: so when you're gonna do it, what are you waiting on?
- 20:37Speaker 3: When there was the hold up? And I was like,
- 20:41Speaker 3: clearly you know what the hold up is. But he's okay,
- 20:43Speaker 3: so how much long are you gonna wait? And so
- 20:46Speaker 3: we go down we found out about an open mic
- 20:48Speaker 3: at the High Comedy Club in North Hollywood.
- 20:52Speaker 2: And you guys are together? Are not together? When you
- 20:55Speaker 2: decide we were together?
- 20:56Speaker 3: He was off shooting a movie though in I think
- 21:00Speaker 3: it was Prague or somewhere I can't remember. Yeah, And
- 21:04Speaker 3: so I was just like, you know what.
- 21:06Speaker 2: He's gone, I'm gonna do. Nobody's gonna know thing.
- 21:10Speaker 3: But everybody knew. See, I didn't even realize how big
- 21:13Speaker 3: we were, you know what I'm saying. I'm just still thinking, okay,
- 21:17Speaker 3: girl from Philadelphia. Boy, I never really realized, like, no,
- 21:21Speaker 3: your husband's in movies, he's done comedy specials, and you
- 21:25Speaker 3: know what I'm saying. So I'm just thinking, Okay. To me,
- 21:27Speaker 3: it's he's always just low keva bastard.
- 21:30Speaker 2: That's yeah.
- 21:30Speaker 3: First stage name was yeah, and I'm like, you gotta
- 21:33Speaker 3: change that. So that's in my mind. It's just always that,
- 21:36Speaker 3: you know. So I'm so when I get on stage,
- 21:39Speaker 3: as soon as I get off stage, my phone's blowing up,
- 21:43Speaker 3: and it was.
- 21:44Speaker 1: It's in the comedy circle small So you're going up
- 21:46Speaker 1: to I'm sure you some comedians that already knew him.
- 21:49Speaker 1: I would imagine knew us because I remember I was
- 21:51Speaker 1: always knew both of you.
- 21:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I was always with him. We were together everywhere,
- 21:56Speaker 3: so everybody in Latare so it's Kevin Tori.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Yeah, so what are you thinking when you're blows up?
- 22:02Speaker 3: I'm not thinking that. Somebody told him already, you know
- 22:05Speaker 3: what I mean. So because I'm like all right, So
- 22:08Speaker 3: he was like, did you just get on stage?
- 22:10Speaker 2: And I was like, yeah, I did.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, and believe it or not, he said, why
- 22:18Speaker 3: why are you doing stand up? I was like, because
- 22:19Speaker 3: I've always wanted to do. I love it. This is
- 22:21Speaker 3: what I'm going to do. And I said, it's going
- 22:23Speaker 3: to also help me with my acting. It's going to
- 22:25Speaker 3: help me with my confidence. That's another thing. If you
- 22:27Speaker 3: can get on stage and perform, but it's going to
- 22:29Speaker 3: boost your confidence.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Right.
- 22:31Speaker 3: And after about a month he became very supportive. Yeah,
- 22:36Speaker 3: he became supportive. I opened up for him. A few times.
- 22:39Speaker 3: He tested me. I'll say that we were in Tennessee
- 22:42Speaker 3: because I had been asking like, when you're gonna let me?
- 22:44Speaker 3: You don't want to get up and shows you let
- 22:46Speaker 3: me get up? You're not ready, You're not I'm like,
- 22:48Speaker 3: I'm ready.
- 22:49Speaker 1: And now is he critiquing your jokes and like your
- 22:52Speaker 1: mannerisms like a coach in the beginning.
- 22:56Speaker 3: No, because I don't think he wanted to. I think
- 22:58Speaker 3: he wanted me to just do it his journey. But
- 23:00Speaker 3: a lot of his friends did a lot of his
- 23:02Speaker 3: friends were like, tour, you're funny, you got some great premises,
- 23:05Speaker 3: you got some great ideas. Let's let let me punched
- 23:08Speaker 3: this up. I had a lot of people who was
- 23:10Speaker 3: ready to like and willing to help.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm distracting. You ain't cooking, I know, I'm not.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Is it hot?
- 23:19Speaker 3: It's probably I'll give it like three more minutes or so.
- 23:23Speaker 2: All right, you can turn the heat a little bit.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm trying not to put it too high.
- 23:28Speaker 2: I know, because I put it all the way to
- 23:29Speaker 2: a old boil. That's why I smoke and I can't
- 23:33Speaker 2: even see. Just turn it up.
- 23:36Speaker 3: I want to help you right there.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Okay, all right, I think that's the right direction.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Okay, I hope it is.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Hold up here.
- 23:44Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that's the right direction. Yeah over here, cold driving.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Okay, you're so he's supportive of this journey, and y'all
- 23:52Speaker 1: still married, and now he's letting you open for him.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Yeah, so I opened for him a few times, and
- 24:01Speaker 3: you know what, I'm not even gonna use the bag.
- 24:03Speaker 3: I'm gonna just do it this way.
- 24:04Speaker 2: That's how I do it at home.
- 24:05Speaker 3: Just so yeah, I'm gonna just do it this way.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Okay, cool, Yeah, we.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Could take the Tachi bag off our table now. Oh
- 24:13Speaker 1: it's good, it's good, it's good. I'm gonna judge the
- 24:15Speaker 1: hell out of your chicken, Tory. No, No, I met
- 24:18Speaker 1: Tory a couple of times, just while she's frying this chicken.
- 24:21Speaker 1: A couple times off aline and nothing but sweetness. From
- 24:25Speaker 1: day one. You are doing community service at the I
- 24:29Speaker 1: think a Christmas event, okay, and then the second time
- 24:32Speaker 1: I saw you at Chris Spencer show, it's really sweet. Yeah,
- 24:35Speaker 1: so I'm really happy to have you. So you're pursuing
- 24:39Speaker 1: this comedy. You guys are still married and the relationship
- 24:44Speaker 1: is fine. No pumping of the heads during this whole process.
- 24:46Speaker 1: No uncomfortable because now you guys are pursuing almost the
- 24:49Speaker 1: same goals.
- 24:50Speaker 3: I think you know, there was a time where it
- 24:54Speaker 3: started getting uncomfortable because he's used to me, like I
- 24:58Speaker 3: was all about him. So sometimes when your mate, when
- 25:02Speaker 3: you're used to your mate, being all about you, and
- 25:05Speaker 3: then one day they're not. Because that's when I was
- 25:07Speaker 3: like stepping into my own. I was like, okay, I
- 25:09Speaker 3: gave you. I told him I was going to give
- 25:11Speaker 3: him a son. I gave him his son, gave him
- 25:13Speaker 3: his daughter.
- 25:14Speaker 1: What had happened, you would have had another girl, You
- 25:17Speaker 1: would have still given him a son.
- 25:19Speaker 3: No, I knew because he thought our daughter was going
- 25:21Speaker 3: to be a boy. I said, no, it's going to
- 25:22Speaker 3: be a girl first, and then I'm going to give
- 25:24Speaker 3: you your son. That's how it just got. I'm very
- 25:27Speaker 3: close to the career.
- 25:28Speaker 2: He was like, Jesus, bless me with this son.
- 25:31Speaker 3: God speaking to me since I was a kid. So
- 25:34Speaker 3: I have that like one on one connection with the
- 25:36Speaker 3: man upstairs, especially beings at all my family, the prayers
- 25:41Speaker 3: that my grandmother has prayed over me for years, my
- 25:43Speaker 3: family like super in tune.
- 25:46Speaker 1: So he so, you give him a son, and you've
- 25:49Speaker 1: been a good loyal wife, and now it's you know what,
- 25:51Speaker 1: I'm going to take some time to do what I
- 25:53Speaker 1: want to do, which yeah, every normal feeling, any human
- 25:57Speaker 1: being with a pulse would want to do.
- 25:59Speaker 3: And I just feel like I'm like I'm at an
- 26:01Speaker 3: age now where Okay, I've done some small things. It's
- 26:04Speaker 3: time for me to really step into it and do
- 26:06Speaker 3: some bigger things.
- 26:07Speaker 1: And I'm sure watching his path was it inspiring to say, yes,
- 26:10Speaker 1: I can do it inspiring.
- 26:13Speaker 3: Let me tell you something, even though we are divorced,
- 26:16Speaker 3: when we went through it pretty it was rough when
- 26:18Speaker 3: it first happened. I wouldn't trade anything in because one
- 26:22Speaker 3: thing that I did learn was work ethic. Why he's
- 26:25Speaker 3: so successful the people that come for him and at
- 26:28Speaker 3: the end of the day are still my family. That's
- 26:29Speaker 3: my kid's father. When people come for him or say that,
- 26:33Speaker 3: I'm like, that's bullshit. This man worked his ass off.
- 26:35Speaker 3: I've seen how hard he works and why he is
- 26:38Speaker 3: where he is at today.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like a militant work ethic.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Right, Oh my god, you have you have to And
- 26:44Speaker 3: then his mother rests in peace. Nancy, that was my heart.
- 26:49Speaker 3: She was just so by the book and just had
- 26:52Speaker 3: him on track and just had him like she was.
- 26:55Speaker 1: She instilled some crazy level of discipline early. Yeah, definitely,
- 27:00Speaker 1: and she was like, I'm not letting this one right
- 27:02Speaker 1: here is They're gonna slip through the cracks by all
- 27:04Speaker 1: means necessary.
- 27:05Speaker 2: So you got to watch that.
- 27:07Speaker 1: So you're pursuing this and keV starts to notice, Hey,
- 27:09Speaker 1: you know what, goals and focus has changed.
- 27:13Speaker 3: And so I think it became a little issue. That's
- 27:16Speaker 3: what I believe, outside of other things that were going on.
- 27:21Speaker 3: But at the time, I was just so dedicated to
- 27:23Speaker 3: also me and then my kids, and I was just like,
- 27:26Speaker 3: I've been mom in it. I'm out here doing this.
- 27:29Speaker 3: I just want something for me. And once I got
- 27:32Speaker 3: locked in and realized like, we're really good at this,
- 27:34Speaker 3: I'm getting booked, people are paying me for this, I'm like, oh, okay,
- 27:39Speaker 3: that's a great feeling. So I'm like, WHOA, Like, this
- 27:42Speaker 3: is what I want to do. I really want to
- 27:43Speaker 3: do this on top of my acting.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Yeah, So that's what happened. I'm not going to fry
- 27:50Speaker 3: these two.
- 27:50Speaker 1: So during the I hate to talk about the divorce
- 27:54Speaker 1: and all that, it's still there was. It was a
- 27:58Speaker 1: little bit of a painful divorce as all breaking. Sorry,
- 28:00Speaker 1: they're never likery well formally agree.
- 28:03Speaker 2: On this split. At this point when all of this
- 28:06Speaker 2: is going on, are you.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Business wise now you're both booking, you're both doing cop comedy.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Does that cause a little bit of a hindrance in
- 28:16Speaker 1: your career, or are you afraid it's going to cause
- 28:18Speaker 1: a hindrance in your career.
- 28:19Speaker 3: I actually I had took time off because I was
- 28:24Speaker 3: going through a lot, like emotionally and stuff. So more
- 28:28Speaker 3: so I took time off so I was more so
- 28:30Speaker 3: just focused on me and the children at the time.
- 28:33Speaker 3: I would get like little auditions and little gigs here
- 28:36Speaker 3: and there, but I was just like I couldn't be funny.
- 28:39Speaker 3: I didn't feel like being funny.
- 28:41Speaker 1: That's a very difficult time. Yeah, so comic, your art
- 28:45Speaker 1: reflects life. You're going up on stage. That's a tough time.
- 28:48Speaker 3: And I did try, and it was bitter. I was bitter.
- 28:51Speaker 3: It was just like like, Okay, maybe that joke ain't
- 28:53Speaker 3: ready yet, because it ain't funny, Tori. It's a little
- 28:56Speaker 3: fuck you, it ain't ready.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:59Speaker 3: So yeah, so I just decided. I was like, you
- 29:02Speaker 3: know what, I took a seat and was just like, okay,
- 29:05Speaker 3: let me just get me together spiritually and mentally. And
- 29:10Speaker 3: that's what I did.
- 29:11Speaker 2: How long did it take you to take that break?
- 29:14Speaker 3: It took a couple of years, just soul searching and
- 29:17Speaker 3: not saying. It took a couple of years to get
- 29:19Speaker 3: fully together. But you know, when you're with someone since
- 29:23Speaker 3: you're twenty years old and then you break up at
- 29:25Speaker 3: thirty three, especially all through my twenties and my thirties
- 29:29Speaker 3: and movie, that's a chunk of time.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a huge investment, especially if you're married. You
- 29:33Speaker 1: come from a family. You said your parents are still together.
- 29:35Speaker 1: You like, man, I did everything in the book. I
- 29:38Speaker 1: would imagine it sounds like you did everything in the
- 29:40Speaker 1: book to make it work.
- 29:41Speaker 3: And you know what, I won't. I wasn't perfect either,
- 29:44Speaker 3: So I will say there's things I probably could have
- 29:47Speaker 3: done differently when you're young, when you're that Like my
- 29:50Speaker 3: daughter is nineteen right now. I look at her like
- 29:52Speaker 3: I can't believe I was in a relationship at nineteen
- 29:55Speaker 3: moving married, Like what how did that even happen? You
- 29:58Speaker 3: know what I'm saying. I'm just yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 30:08Speaker 1: So now you're out on your own and keV is
- 30:12Speaker 1: extremely successful running laps around the sun.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Right now? How does it? How does the inner you.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Feel about like you're pursuing your dreams, you have your
- 30:24Speaker 1: ex husband orperating around the sun a hundred times? What
- 30:27Speaker 1: are the motions like you where you're at right now
- 30:30Speaker 1: watching all of this.
- 30:31Speaker 3: I was annoyed everywhere, just like I can't escape them. God,
- 30:38Speaker 3: are you playing a trick on me? Yeah, it's just
- 30:40Speaker 3: but it worked because it's in one of my comedy bits.
- 30:42Speaker 2: I heard of it. Yeah, it was. It was very funny.
- 30:45Speaker 2: It was very funny.
- 30:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:46Speaker 2: I don't want to spoil it.
- 30:47Speaker 1: But one of the jokes you said that night really
- 30:50Speaker 1: about your kids being richer than you are.
- 30:54Speaker 3: Ye, I'm the one that slept with a midget for
- 30:56Speaker 3: y'all to like.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought that was really funny.
- 30:58Speaker 3: It's the truth, you know what I'm saying. Of course
- 31:02Speaker 3: they are richer than me. But I love I'm very blessed,
- 31:05Speaker 3: So I don't want anybody to think I'm not blessed.
- 31:07Speaker 3: But I am blessed, super blessed, and continue to work
- 31:10Speaker 3: hard so I can be more blessed. And I like
- 31:13Speaker 3: to give back a lot more. A lot of things
- 31:15Speaker 3: that I work super hard for is to give back. Yeah.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Now, do you guys collaborate? Do you see future collaborations?
- 31:23Speaker 1: How does that work with your guys? Whole relationship?
- 31:26Speaker 3: We did it. I did do House Husbands the final season.
- 31:30Speaker 3: I did do that, but as far as collabing. As
- 31:34Speaker 3: of right now, I don't see that, and I don't
- 31:37Speaker 3: see it right now, it's not in hindsight. But who
- 31:39Speaker 3: knows a couple of years later it might change.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you guys, in this industry, it's like a
- 31:43Speaker 1: very relationship industry. People ask me all the time, get
- 31:46Speaker 1: my friends with everybody. I'm like, I actually don't know
- 31:48Speaker 1: everyone that's on the show personally, but a lot of
- 31:52Speaker 1: the relationships are what put different people in the room
- 31:55Speaker 1: when you're going after auditions or anything. Do you ever
- 31:59Speaker 1: want to pick up the phone call and be like, hey, keV,
- 32:02Speaker 1: can you assist with this? Or are you just no?
- 32:06Speaker 1: I gotta do it the old school. I hate when
- 32:09Speaker 1: people do that, Like you you have to connect, just
- 32:12Speaker 1: call it in.
- 32:14Speaker 2: It's weird. It's very bird for you.
- 32:17Speaker 3: It's very weird because some people are scared to work
- 32:20Speaker 3: with me because they think if they work with me,
- 32:23Speaker 3: then they can't they can't or what is Kevin gonna say?
- 32:26Speaker 3: And I tell them all the time, he was never
- 32:27Speaker 3: going to work with you anyway. I'm the closest day
- 32:30Speaker 3: you got, so your might as well go with me. Okay.
- 32:33Speaker 2: I love that.
- 32:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm like what you bro You're not even at
- 32:37Speaker 3: a level where he would even look your way. Come on.
- 32:39Speaker 3: But then there's some people who are just they see
- 32:41Speaker 3: my talent, they see what I do, and they're just like, yo,
- 32:44Speaker 3: I want to work with you. You're super talent or
- 32:46Speaker 3: who knew a lot of people still don't even know
- 32:48Speaker 3: I do stand up and so some people are like, yo,
- 32:50Speaker 3: I didn't know you was that funny, And I'm like, yeah,
- 32:53Speaker 3: I've been doing this a long time.
- 32:56Speaker 1: So let's talk about you going on tour with Kat Williams. Okay,
- 33:00Speaker 1: let's talk about that. Yeah, that's a big that's a
- 33:03Speaker 1: big deal. Let's talk about let's please, yes, guys, just
- 33:07Speaker 1: so you know, I'm removing these glasses because someone's calling me.
- 33:11Speaker 2: I can't concentrate if the phones ringing in my ear.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Let's talk about that. How did that come about?
- 33:16Speaker 1: Because Cat Williams is also, need I say, like, literally
- 33:19Speaker 1: the best of the best comics on the earth, living comics. Yeah,
- 33:23Speaker 1: I don't trying to think in my head, who could
- 33:25Speaker 1: be no One? Okay, good, good, yeah, different, He's a
- 33:31Speaker 1: different type of comic, but cat by fault. I think
- 33:36Speaker 1: Dave Chappelle is a great storyteller comic. I think Cat
- 33:39Speaker 1: Williams just.
- 33:40Speaker 2: He could probably seize.
- 33:42Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a lot of things I can tell you.
- 33:45Speaker 3: It's his voice, his stature, presence. He's fearless.
- 33:51Speaker 2: He's fearless.
- 33:52Speaker 1: You have to be I think his I think what
- 33:54Speaker 1: makes a lot of comics unique is their perspective, like
- 33:57Speaker 1: how they taking information and how they spin it back
- 34:00Speaker 1: out because you're taking Comics can take really serious, serious
- 34:05Speaker 1: topics and then they turn it into something.
- 34:08Speaker 2: Like whoa, I never even thought of that.
- 34:10Speaker 1: And then Cat Williams has a very good The way
- 34:13Speaker 1: his information is coming in and the way it's going
- 34:15Speaker 1: out is very right.
- 34:17Speaker 2: It's very deep.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Tell me about how that whole Cat Williams going on
- 34:20Speaker 1: tour with Cat Wwlliams came.
- 34:21Speaker 3: About no d on napkins. Yeah, go ahead, thank you.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 34:24Speaker 3: I usually have a certain thing to drain the chicken.
- 34:28Speaker 3: That's another thing I forgot to tell you, but it's okay.
- 34:31Speaker 3: So I've known Cat for twenty something years. Another thing
- 34:35Speaker 3: people don't know. Cat used to come through Philly to
- 34:38Speaker 3: a place called the laugh House, and so I met
- 34:43Speaker 3: Kat when I lived in Philly. I've hung out with Cat,
- 34:46Speaker 3: paray with Cat, Me and Cat has done two movies together.
- 34:50Speaker 3: It wasn't just oh, toy's just going on tour with Cat.
- 34:52Speaker 3: Me and Cat have a relationship.
- 34:53Speaker 2: To be on tour with gun, you said, you have
- 34:56Speaker 2: to be really funny.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Yeah, so I was getting at more so, was that
- 34:59Speaker 1: like a defining moment to say, Kat Williams is like
- 35:03Speaker 1: putting me on tour with him? Is I don't know
- 35:06Speaker 1: the right terminology, more like an accolade of I've arrived.
- 35:11Speaker 3: He did. That wasn't the first time I went performed
- 35:15Speaker 3: with cats. See that's another thing. I performed for Cat
- 35:17Speaker 3: at the Microsoft Theater in front of twenty five thousand people,
- 35:20Speaker 3: and that was the first time he gave me an
- 35:24Speaker 3: opportunity and blessed me literally like with ten K for
- 35:28Speaker 3: seven minutes of material. He's always been a person that
- 35:32Speaker 3: looks out for females and puts females on the stage,
- 35:36Speaker 3: and so for him to do that, it was just
- 35:38Speaker 3: like thank you. And then we had already talked about
- 35:41Speaker 3: me going and doing a couple of dates on the tour,
- 35:44Speaker 3: and then when everything dropped, it was it looked a
- 35:47Speaker 3: certain type of way, but it's yo. It looks this way,
- 35:49Speaker 3: but no, that was already planned.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Yeah, but how did it feel to be able to
- 35:54Speaker 1: open for a cat?
- 35:56Speaker 3: Oh?
- 35:56Speaker 2: Amazing, amazing, yeah, amazing.
- 35:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Are there other point in your career where you could
- 36:01Speaker 1: say like they were definitive moments where you were just like,
- 36:04Speaker 1: I'm in I'm doing this.
- 36:07Speaker 3: I opened up for Martin Lawrence at Royal Farms Arena
- 36:12Speaker 3: and that was New Year's And if you get a
- 36:14Speaker 3: booking New Year's Eve as a comedian, to be booked
- 36:19Speaker 3: on New Year's Eve, that's like all comedians want to
- 36:21Speaker 3: be booked.
- 36:23Speaker 2: So I didn't even know that.
- 36:24Speaker 3: Oh yeah, oh yeah, the pressure is real comedians. I
- 36:28Speaker 3: need a gig for In Martin's people. Some one of
- 36:31Speaker 3: his people saw me performing somewhere and Martin approved to
- 36:36Speaker 3: have me come to Royal Farms and opened up for him.
- 36:38Speaker 3: I've opened up for Martin. Dion Cole did shows with
- 36:42Speaker 3: Dion Crispencer trying to think, who else.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Do you think your road is as hard as the
- 36:50Speaker 1: average comic.
- 36:53Speaker 2: Coming in? It's harder, it's harder.
- 36:56Speaker 3: It's a lot harder. I get scrutinized a lot. You
- 36:58Speaker 3: know a lot of people. I can walk on a
- 37:01Speaker 3: stage and I see some men doing this, Like even
- 37:05Speaker 3: when the Cat Williams thing happened and I got my
- 37:07Speaker 3: own tour out of that too. Some men would just
- 37:10Speaker 3: come for whatever reason just to like low.
- 37:12Speaker 2: Key just hate wow.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Oh yeah they arms cross and yeah, make me funny?
- 37:17Speaker 3: Are you better be funny? Make me laugh?
- 37:20Speaker 2: Yep. I could see that people coming and being like, okay,
- 37:23Speaker 2: let's see what she.
- 37:23Speaker 3: Could judge it.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Yeah, just straight judging, which is definitely a lot harder.
- 37:28Speaker 3: It's hard so when people say stuff like, oh, she
- 37:31Speaker 3: only got this because her last name. Okay, but I
- 37:34Speaker 3: still have to be funny. Yeah, I still have to
- 37:36Speaker 3: go on stage and make people laugh and telling jokes
- 37:39Speaker 3: is not easy.
- 37:40Speaker 2: Does that ever make does it? Now?
- 37:42Speaker 1: I know you don't regret your family and all of that,
- 37:46Speaker 1: but does it ever make you send? I feel like, damn,
- 37:50Speaker 1: I wish it wasn't like this. I wish I could
- 37:52Speaker 1: have had an organic clean slate.
- 37:55Speaker 3: Sometimes I do. I do wish that sometimes like dag
- 37:59Speaker 3: I would be I feel like I would get more
- 38:01Speaker 3: opportunities because there's a lot of things that I see
- 38:06Speaker 3: where I'm like, I could have had that role, I
- 38:08Speaker 3: could have did that. But then I'm like, but it
- 38:10Speaker 3: wasn't for me, So I know my road is going
- 38:12Speaker 3: to be longer, my journey is different. But I'm also
- 38:15Speaker 3: I'm more of an independent. I finally got a conglomerate
- 38:19Speaker 3: behind me. I just got to deal with Urban one
- 38:21Speaker 3: TV Radio one for my podcast called Brutally Honest with
- 38:26Speaker 3: Tory Hart.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Oh yeah, a big deal.
- 38:29Speaker 3: It's super big. I actually just filmed four episodes. I
- 38:32Speaker 3: gotta go back to Atlanta. I'm filming. It's in Atlanta
- 38:37Speaker 3: the whole cause I just got to show up. They
- 38:38Speaker 3: have the production, everything is laid out for me, built
- 38:41Speaker 3: my set, everything. I just show up.
- 38:43Speaker 2: That's nice.
- 38:44Speaker 3: But I'm asking some tough, hard questions and I ain't
- 38:48Speaker 3: letting up on nobody when they come.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Through tell us about the show.
- 38:52Speaker 3: So it's Brutally Honest with Tory Hart. If you don't
- 38:56Speaker 3: want to get questioned, then don't want you know to
- 39:00Speaker 3: because I'm coming with those questions like the personal and everything,
- 39:03Speaker 3: personal business, spirituality.
- 39:07Speaker 2: What type of guests are on the show, all kinds. Yeah.
- 39:10Speaker 3: I just was just there and I did Neo's actually
- 39:15Speaker 3: ex fiance Manetta oh okay, okay, and I asked her
- 39:20Speaker 3: questions about how she feels with him having three and
- 39:22Speaker 3: four cocky bonds now.
- 39:24Speaker 1: And they're girlfriends, right, they're like.
- 39:29Speaker 3: Girlfriends, conckybines. Whatever.
- 39:31Speaker 1: My husband always asks me this, what do you think
- 39:33Speaker 1: about Neil? I'm like, I don't really care this, I
- 39:34Speaker 1: don't care. We're limited in a society where men forget
- 39:37Speaker 1: what women are actually bringing to the table.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Oh you know what I'm saying, Yeah, we're not just
- 39:41Speaker 2: bringing sex. Guys.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Unfortunately, they forget that a woman is your rib for
- 39:45Speaker 1: a reason.
- 39:46Speaker 3: Right.
- 39:46Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying us down to that you're
- 39:48Speaker 1: walking away with a lot less than you could be
- 39:51Speaker 1: walking away with.
- 39:52Speaker 2: And that's just my personal opinion.
- 39:54Speaker 3: And here's the thing to each its own. If that's
- 39:56Speaker 3: what makes you happy, do that, and if you got
- 39:58Speaker 3: people willing participate, that are willing to go with.
- 40:01Speaker 1: It, then yeah, yeah yeah, by all means I say
- 40:05Speaker 1: to people like, he's paying for his peace. Yeah, because
- 40:08Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure you be with a guy, you messing
- 40:10Speaker 1: with a guy. You like him, he has a cute smile, successful,
- 40:13Speaker 1: it's very easy to like and love that. But you know,
- 40:16Speaker 1: when it comes time to be like, I want you
- 40:17Speaker 1: to only want me, that's where the paper comes into
- 40:20Speaker 1: to this is the deal that you you know, I
- 40:23Speaker 1: told you.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Upfront what it is.
- 40:25Speaker 1: Yeah, and I really believe he's That's where the money
- 40:29Speaker 1: comes in. Whereas you know what, I'm gonna choose not
- 40:31Speaker 1: to say anything though I feel this type of way
- 40:33Speaker 1: because the money is here to sue that part of me,
- 40:38Speaker 1: because I just I don't I personally don't believe women
- 40:41Speaker 1: are built like that. Oh to have several I'm gonna
- 40:43Speaker 1: share me and three of my homegirls are gonna share.
- 40:46Speaker 3: Oh.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Now there's always exception. The royal shout out to Michael B. Jordan,
- 40:50Speaker 2: because I really think that I could debate it for
- 40:53Speaker 2: Michael B.
- 40:54Speaker 3: Michael B.
- 40:56Speaker 2: I said all the time with this show, it's terrible,
- 40:59Speaker 2: that is hilarious.
- 41:00Speaker 1: I'm gonna be I think I would get in line
- 41:03Speaker 1: with the amount of right amount of paper. I could
- 41:05Speaker 1: be quiet, okay, you know what I'm saying. I could
- 41:07Speaker 1: be like, you know what, it's Michael B.
- 41:11Speaker 2: I get it. The whole universe probably wants this dude.
- 41:17Speaker 2: A lot of people say it up.
- 41:19Speaker 3: I don't. He's not Michael B. Ain't. That ain't what
- 41:22Speaker 3: I would.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Be like anyday? You smile my way?
- 41:26Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I know there's always some guy that you'd
- 41:29Speaker 1: be like, you know what, for a lot of money,
- 41:31Speaker 1: maybe maybe I have to turn the other cheat.
- 41:34Speaker 3: I'm trying to think who that guy would be for me.
- 41:39Speaker 2: More. Michael B would be it. Michael Be.
- 41:43Speaker 1: I tell you everybody husband included Michael B Is. That's yeah,
- 41:48Speaker 1: he comes on this show, don't it's not even gonna
- 41:52Speaker 1: be a question.
- 41:53Speaker 2: Well it's not a whole past. I'm open. But if
- 41:57Speaker 2: he comes on this show forgetting my whole team, forget it.
- 42:00Speaker 2: I would come.
- 42:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna have your glam square, getting the gym, hopefully
- 42:04Speaker 1: I know a week in advance. Okay, I'm gonna have
- 42:07Speaker 1: the shoes that you're wearing on Okay.
- 42:12Speaker 2: No, I'm joking. But Michael B Is definitely my ultimate.
- 42:15Speaker 1: But all my friends they tell me that he's like
- 42:17Speaker 1: a super hole and all that stuff.
- 42:18Speaker 3: Oh he's not married.
- 42:20Speaker 1: You know what, though, I always say, it takes nothing
- 42:22Speaker 1: for All the guy has to do is open his
- 42:23Speaker 1: mouth and it could completely change your mind. If he
- 42:25Speaker 1: came down talking like a valley girl or something, I
- 42:28Speaker 1: wouldn't be interested at all.
- 42:29Speaker 2: Okay, I'd be like, oh that's it.
- 42:32Speaker 3: See, I'm learning to turn a new least because I
- 42:35Speaker 3: like thugs.
- 42:36Speaker 2: I saw a girl.
- 42:38Speaker 3: Wait, what do you mean you saw?
- 42:40Speaker 2: I watched your stand up?
- 42:41Speaker 3: Oh shoot, oh yeah I watched.
- 42:44Speaker 2: What are you talking about? I saw that?
- 42:45Speaker 3: Yeah, but I but you know what I am like.
- 42:50Speaker 2: I was interested in those peb looks like the opposite
- 42:52Speaker 2: of a thug.
- 42:53Speaker 3: I also was twenty when we met, No, nineteen twenty.
- 42:58Speaker 3: I can't remember this.
- 43:00Speaker 2: You were like but before keV.
- 43:02Speaker 3: Okay, And that's another thing. You know, people think that
- 43:05Speaker 3: I date short men, So all short men please stop
- 43:08Speaker 3: approaching me, because that was just one time.
- 43:10Speaker 1: Dory, you are short. I don't know what you're talking about.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Kevin looks like he's a inch taller than you.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Yeah, but he's a man, Torri, you are short. I
- 43:19Speaker 3: know that's what I'm saying. Stop coming please.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Okay, you are slowly running out of time. Okay, And
- 43:27Speaker 1: I gotta judge your fried chicken.
- 43:29Speaker 3: Okay, let's get it. I mean, does it look good?
- 43:32Speaker 2: It looks really good?
- 43:33Speaker 3: Okay.
- 43:35Speaker 2: I'm still this recipe. When I go home and cook
- 43:37Speaker 2: for Z.
- 43:38Speaker 3: I have to give you like because this is not
- 43:42Speaker 3: even the real recipe.
- 43:43Speaker 2: I'm telling you now. If it doesn't taste flavorful. At
- 43:49Speaker 2: least you didn't smoke up the room. Now I learned
- 43:50Speaker 2: that it doesn't. I was boiling it.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I put the oil down to what looks real official.
- 43:57Speaker 1: Is that the buttermilk that makes it all crispy?
- 43:59Speaker 3: I can't tell you that. No, I'm just ky. Yes, But.
- 44:04Speaker 1: I was like, why, I want to know, because I'm
- 44:07Speaker 1: gonna try it at home. I never do buttermilk, but
- 44:09Speaker 1: I don't know. Mine doesn't come out as crispy.
- 44:12Speaker 3: Oh yeah, so it's also the flower. I probably could
- 44:16Speaker 3: have seasoned the flower a little bit more.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Oh, we're gonna judge a girl with.
- 44:19Speaker 3: Me cooking like this talking, I don't usually be all
- 44:22Speaker 3: mikes and spotlights.
- 44:23Speaker 2: And started talk to me like that's with your girl.
- 44:26Speaker 2: I'm mixing the chicken, and you ask.
- 44:28Speaker 1: Me these questions, So toart, Where do you want to
- 44:30Speaker 1: see yourself maybe in the next one to five years.
- 44:33Speaker 1: What are some goals that you're trying to hit?
- 44:35Speaker 3: Okay, I got one, I got my deal, sot TV show,
- 44:40Speaker 3: I'd like to see.
- 44:41Speaker 2: My chicken, go ahead, sherve me up talk show.
- 44:45Speaker 3: I just booked two movies, so I'll be doing two
- 44:47Speaker 3: films in Atlanta next month.
- 44:49Speaker 2: And are you kid kid free? Officially all of them
- 44:52Speaker 2: are out the house.
- 44:53Speaker 3: So my daughter's in college. My son is still at
- 44:56Speaker 3: the house, but he's split between me and Kevin. Okay,
- 44:59Speaker 3: he's seventeen, but eighteen this year.
- 45:02Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, okay, all right, let's serve this up. Come
- 45:05Speaker 2: sit with me. Okay, look crazy, hold on, let me
- 45:10Speaker 2: wipe it.
- 45:10Speaker 3: Do you let me? Do you want some salad? Yes, okay,
- 45:14Speaker 3: serve me up.
- 45:16Speaker 2: I want to experience what you were eating when you
- 45:19Speaker 2: were broke. Oh, that's that's it.
- 45:20Speaker 3: Okay, we're gonna have to improvise. That's it. It's just
- 45:24Speaker 3: gonna improvise.
- 45:25Speaker 2: It's a plastic one, guys, Okay, okay. And then I've
- 45:30Speaker 2: been snacking on the cucumbers.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Okay, so this is what you ate in Philly in La.
- 45:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I eat to listen, and I will still eat
- 45:39Speaker 3: some fried chicken like it's nothing.
- 45:41Speaker 2: We got cucumbers, We got tomatoes.
- 45:43Speaker 3: Here's some tomatoes to help myself.
- 45:47Speaker 2: Here we go. This looks so good. I'm starving. Guys.
- 45:54Speaker 2: Couldn't wait for her to cook this chicken.
- 45:57Speaker 3: Now. I would say, get one closer to the bottom
- 45:59Speaker 3: because it's a little the oil. I soaked it, oil
- 46:02Speaker 3: up a little bit more in the meat.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I love how you're conscious over it. You want
- 46:10Speaker 1: me to have the good piece of che I'm.
- 46:11Speaker 3: A little nervous.
