- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Hey everyone, and welcome to the very first episode on my podcast.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: My name is Vadim Levchenko and I am so incredibly excited to finally sit down behind this microphone and share this space with you.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: If you had told me a decade ago that I would be recording a podcast in British Columbia, Canada, I probably would have laughed and told you you had the wrong guy.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: My journey started a long way from here.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: I was born and raised in Cherkasi, Ukraine.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Growing up, I watched my parents work hard every single day.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: My mom working for the local government and my dad driving trucks for the city's water treatment plant.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: They taught me the value of a strong work ethic, which stuck with me through my school years where I earned a diploma as an electrician and eventually a master's degree in project management.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: But as many of you might know, life doesn't always care about what's written on your degree.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Finding a job with a decent salary in Ukraine back then was incredibly tough.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: So in 2013, I made a massive leap of faith.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: I packed my bags and moved to Denmark to work on a pig farm.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: It wasn't glamorous, but it was an opportunity to build something better.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: While I was there, the world has changed.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: In 2014, geopolitical conflict broke out back from between Ukraine and Russia.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: And it became clear that returning wasn't a viable option anymore.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: I had to look forward.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: I decided to take my Danish farming experience and use it as a ticket to a brand new life across the Atlantic.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: By May 2015 I landed in Ontario, Canada.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: I spent four intense years working hard, keeping my head down and navigating the system until I finally received my permanent residency in 2019.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: After a quick much needed trip back to Ukraine to recharge, I felt a familiar restlessness.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: I knew Ontario was not my final stop, so I packed up my car in Torona and drove it all the way across the country to Vancouver.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Since arriving in NBC, I have worn a lot of different hats, so to speak.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: So today I'm working as a solar cleaner and driving for Uber right here in Lower Mainland.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: But throughout all of these moves, different jobs and cities, there is one thing that has always fueled me.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: I absolutely love meeting new people and learning from their experience.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Every time I get into a conversation with someone new, I realize just how much wisdom is out there.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: And that is exactly what this podcast is about.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: This show isn't just about my journey.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: It's a platform for different stories from different people from all kinds of backgrounds, industries, countries, and continents.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: I want to dive into the unique paths people take, the lessons they learned, and the great it takes to build life, no matter where you started.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for tuning into this very first chapter.
