- 0:09SPEAKER_02: Hi and welcome to this episode of Assassin's Sips, where every week we discuss and dissect an episode of Lost in Order.
- 0:19SPEAKER_02: We are your hosts.
- 0:20SPEAKER_02: I'm Lisa.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: And I'm Agnes.
- 0:23SPEAKER_02: And today's episode is What Kate Did.
- 0:26SPEAKER_02: What are you drinking today?
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: My go-to as of late, my special coffee.
- 0:34SPEAKER_02: You like that, don't you?
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because you know what?
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: Um I it's easy because I'm coffee is made on a daily basis, and it's easy to throw a little poo-hoo in it.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I've I've been lazy too.
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: I have iced tea again.
- 0:49SPEAKER_02: It's just so easy.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: It is, and it's and and then to be quite good.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: To be quite honest, I don't have it in me to like drink drink lately.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I don't want any.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, so I'm like, oh, a little nip in the coffee is not drinking.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'm I'm good with the drinking.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: I don't feel like I like the caffeine from the tea.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: Oh, it may or may not have to do with that party a few weeks ago.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Okay, then oh, we it was a zoom party, it was a zoom party, so it was social distancing, everybody.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: We're very safe.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: All right, we and it's something to be because I was something something to be said, like you could get shit face wasted at home, and you know you don't have to leave anywhere.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: Everyone's at home.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: You don't have to worry about anyone getting home safely.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: We all had a Zoom game night party.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: It was fun, literally, like from our beds, and it was great because then once you got shit faced, all you had to do is like close your computer and go sleep.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's like okay, bye.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: It was amazing.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, fucking awesome.
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: The guy the the the woman who her husband sleeping next to her, though, that was funny.
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: She kept panning over and he was sleeping.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: That was bugging.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: Any thoughts on the episode before we dive in?
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: I think I'm going to wait and let you know at the end of the show.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: So this is last week.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: You were so sure.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: You were so sure.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: Now I'm gonna like I'm gonna I'm gonna keep my face completely stoic, and I'm not saying shit until you're done with the synopsis.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: And that's enough.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: That's all you have to say, because I already know.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: I don't want to get pleasure from in flashback.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: This flashback is from 2001.
- 2:41SPEAKER_02: A 24-year-old Kate is sitting on a porch playing with the cigarette lighter when her father, Wayne Jansen, arrives inebriated.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: As Kate helps him to bed, he complains and makes advances towards her.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: Kate soon leaves.
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: As Kate rides away from the house on her bike, the house explodes.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: She rides to a diner where her mother, Diane Jansen, works.
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: Kate confronts Diane about an injury caused by Wayne and then presents her with the homeowner's insurance policy, telling Diane she'll be taken care of.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: Despite worried pleas from her mother to explain what she did, Kate leaves, fighting back tears.
- 3:25SPEAKER_02: Later, as Kate is trying to buy a bus ticket, she is arrested by U.S.
- 3:30SPEAKER_02: Marshal Edward Mars.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: He says Kate's mother turned her in.
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: There we go.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: Another fucking parent.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: On a country highway during a rainy night, Mars is driving a handcuffed Kate to her arraignment in Iowa.
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: He questions why, with no previous criminal record, she would choose now to kill Wayne.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: So that sentence right there tells you that this is when this is the incident of what put her on the run.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: And also the fact that she knows who he was at the bus station in line.
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: Right, but but but regardless, see to me to me the bigger clue was that he says you have no criminal record.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: Which means that like even if even if she had been wanted before, or for you know, for whatever, like you know, like she just there was nothing before this.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: This but you know what it was kind of obvious that this was it, because she doesn't seem to like you could like you based on her inter like her interactions with people and her other flashbacks, she's not a hot criminal.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she doesn't so you could tell like if like this is this is it, like it's kinda like this was it, like right.
- 4:58SPEAKER_02: And and we're gonna get into the whole thing anyway, so because it's clearly not like she just set out to fuck up somebody's day, you know.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: That was a plan.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna fuck up your day, so I'm just gonna blow you up.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: She's not me.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: Suddenly, a black horse passes in front of the car.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: Kate shouts, look out, and after swerving to avoid hitting the animal, the car hits a pole.
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: With Mars momentarily stunned by the opening of the driver's airbag, Kate grabs the handcuff keys and tries to unlock the handcuffs.
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: But the marshal revives, and after a short fight, Kate kicks him out of the car.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: She reverses the slightly damaged car and turns on the headlights and drives away.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: To her surprise, the lights show the black horse standing next to the road, quietly looking at her for a few seconds before leaving into the darkness.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: Okay, so it's quite obvious chasing Kate.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: He doesn't have the best of luck chasing Kate.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: Like he should have just gave up after this incident.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Like, apparently, like car accident, plane accident, like you're sorry.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: Two car accidents.
- 6:19SPEAKER_02: Remember in Australia, yes.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: So, like, he really should have left well enough well enough alone.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: Like, dude, the universe was telling you leave this bitch alone.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, this is not what so far.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: You got two car accidents and a plane crash.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: So who knows what's happening that we don't know what happened yet, right?
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: Dude, I'm so sorry.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: I feel like I'm being mean to a dead character.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: Kate visits a U.S.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: Army recruiting station and meets Sergeant Major Sam Austin, the man she believed to be her biological father.
- 6:55SPEAKER_02: She tells Sam she recently discovered he was her stepfather and Wayne was her biological father.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: Sam says he had known all along, but hid the truth because he knew Kate would kill Wayne if she ever found out.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: He says, when she tells him that he should have killed him, he said he didn't have murder in his heart.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: I have so much to say about that.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: But like you're a soldier.
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: So isn't that like part of your job description?
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: Well, okay, well, a soldier, like they don't let me stop.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: Here we go again.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: Well, to be a to that point, it's not murder.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: I you know what I mean.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: So to that I know, but um I don't think that was fair of him to say that to her because anybody can have that in the heart depending on the situation they're put in.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: Anyone can have can be put in a position where they want that they not just want to kill someone, but are willing to do it.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: Well, they have they may or may not enjoy it, probably not, who knows?
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: But to have murder in your heart, any human being is susceptible to being in that position.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: So I don't think that was fair of him to say that.
- 8:10SPEAKER_02: And we get more of that later when she's talking to Sawyer, which interesting, which which will kind of explain her how her actions, what why she took the action that she did.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: Well, it kind of makes sense at this point.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: I feel like I would have killed like when he said, I know you would have killed him.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: And because opening that scene when she's put him in a bed and he's looking at her, I'm like, oh gross stepfather situation.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: That's my thought.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: Like, I was like, that's and uh and that's just with him being her stepfather.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: So he knew that enough.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: So the fact that that like he knew he was gonna kill her, like he because that's that's not my that's my actual father.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: Fuck yeah, I would have killed him too.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: You couldn't, you shouldn't be, you shouldn't blame me.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: You beat my mother, you try like and then you realize that he's been beating the mother, so it's like actually my father looking at me in this way, right?
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: And honestly, the whole I don't have murder in my heart thing was kind of it's a little what's the word I'm looking for?
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: I can't think of the word.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: This is frustrating as fuck for me.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: Um but if you don't if you're such a good person that you don't have murder in your heart, how do you let a child stay in that position knowing the man that he was?
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: So you know, don't give you that self-righteous bullshit.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know he says something about he wanted to take you, but but like, but then why couldn't you?
- 9:39SPEAKER_02: But I guess because you weren't the biological parent.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: I I that would be my guess.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: No, you know what?
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: Personally, maybe it's just me being judgy, but I can judge TV characters.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Um I feel if there was a child, if there was a child that was put in position of that nature, and it's quite obvious the mother was so blind about this other man, he she wasn't gonna protect her as a as a father figure or a position or a person in this child's life.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: I feel like there's I mean, there's something did you try?
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: I get the person that he didn't even try.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: I got the impression that oh I couldn't do anything, so I'm gonna go about my business.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: I felt maybe he did try, but I felt like you get the impression that he didn't even try.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: He just like chalked it up.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: So I think it was his self-righteous bullshit, you know, miss me with that fucking mess.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: Shut the fuck up, like shove it up your ass.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: And and the truth of the matter is that like in the lost realm of parents and bad parents, he's actually not one of them.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: No, he's not, which then again, he's technically not a parent.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: So does that he was still a parent figure, like she thought, you know, she thought that was her real father.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: As far as Kate was concerned, up to when she went through the butt, that was her father.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: She thought that was her father, so even more so, like this girl thinks you are her father, and you still left in that situation.
- 11:22SPEAKER_02: I think that's even more I think that was it's like one hair hanging in.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: I hate that.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: That was I think that was even more of a smack in the fucking face.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Because she up to recently she thought that you were her father.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: I feel no, I just like I was just a little like and was he a bad person?
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: No, I think his whole self-righteous bullshit made him worse.
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: Um back to Yeah, that that comment was pretty cold.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was like, ew, even if you did everything you could unless, unless, let's play devil's advocate, unless that's something that he would have wanted to do, but didn't have the guts to carry it out.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: So he's a little so his his shame for himself, he's throwing onto her.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: See, even worse.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: Well, maybe not throwing onto himself, but he's projecting, but simply saying that like I in the sense of like like I didn't have the balls that you did to do it.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 12:30SPEAKER_02: I'm just I think the choice of words that I can I don't have murder in my heart.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: I think the way he said it and those particular words.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: It seemed like a backhanded comment, you know.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: Or not so backhanded, it was more like up front, like fuck you comment.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 12:46SPEAKER_02: It was just like because he kind of gives up like like it sounded like it was about him, but it was really about her.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: That's what I meant.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was just like dude, so was he a bad and no, not everyone's perfect.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: Man, and I say man as a mankind before everyone gets up in arms.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: We're not perfect.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: We no, we do I get it, but this is a TV character, so I can be judgy.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: This is why I can judge a TV character.
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: That's why they're there.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: That's why they're there, thank you.
- 13:13SPEAKER_02: So that we can make a podcast and talk about them, obviously.
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: I'm pretty sure it says that in the rules.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: Uh it's somewhere.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: But as far as parents go, I some were quite obviously shit human beings.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: But I also you know, just made bad decisions.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: And you know, they you know, they they try to do what they they thought they were doing the best they could, and they just made bad decisions, and that's not bad parenting.
- 13:47SPEAKER_02: Um so I also I also take it to mean because of the next thing that he says, I I feel like the writers and the show are are trying to portray him as an honorable guy because he's a soldier, you know, he's he's a sergeant major, which I'm I'm kind of naive when it comes to like ranks and stuff.
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: But being in the military is a very big sacrifice that you make for your country, and it and it you know it it is regardless of how you feel about whatever wars and conflicts that we've been a part of, it's irrelevant as far as that's irrelevant as far as the individual soldier, right?
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: Because they're still enlisting knowing the shit that they're about to encounter, and so I think that be you know, him being a high-ranking officer in the military is supposed to be like an honorable job.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: Also, he's in the next line, he says that he has to turn her in, but he'll give her an hour head start.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: He obviously loves her, he didn't tell her that she asked for it.
- 15:04SPEAKER_02: He just like he just like represents right, he just says anything, he just you know, but um but it shows that he loves her, but he feels compelled to do what he feels is the right thing.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: So another question Which goes with the murder thing that he's not that kind of a person, like he's not a you know, a murder revengeful, and here's another thing like it gotta like do you it's country over family, like I'm gonna preserve my country.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: It kind of throws that into the mix, also, like my destiny over my family, my country over my family, like it makes you wonder how that fit into the whole lost crazy theme of shit.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: Fucking lost drives me crazy.
- 15:53SPEAKER_02: I know it's great.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: When you were watching this scene, did you see that he had a TV in his office?
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: I didn't because I was doing other things at the time.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: I was trying to yeah.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: So you didn't know who was on the TV.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: Who was on it?
- 16:08SPEAKER_02: Okay, so let's so then on the island.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, get to the end.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: I don't care.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: I wait this long in the morning light.
- 16:46SPEAKER_02: Jin comes out of his tent with no shirt on, followed by a smiling son.
- 16:53SPEAKER_02: As she hugs him, Hurley gives Jin a thumbs up from his nearby shelter.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: That was so cute.
- 16:59SPEAKER_02: He's like, Yeah, get it, get it.
- 17:04SPEAKER_02: Go ahead, my man.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: You missed her, didn't you?
- 17:09SPEAKER_01: Especially since they kind of like reconciled as he's floating off the raps.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: I think this is so this this was more than just a physical connection.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: This was he heard emotional.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: He heard her.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: I think this is emotional, mental, spiritual.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: Like she cried.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: You're such a freak.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: It was necessary for them.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to be like, I'm trying to take this, I'm trying to be like deep with this shit, and you're just gonna get freaky.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: I like it.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: I like it about you.
- 17:44SPEAKER_02: Sun turns.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: You sound like Alex right now.
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: I mean, we've been together for like how many decades now?
- 17:51SPEAKER_02: Like it's fucking inevitable.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: More than half your lives.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: That's a little nauseatingly sweet.
- 17:57SPEAKER_02: A little?
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: Okay, it's a lot nauseating.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: A lot.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: Oh I only do that because I know them so well.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: So shit.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: And I guess love.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: I'd be uh also.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: And it's I would have bombed in the shadow of your love.
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: And him too, so it's completely mutual.
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: It's fine.
- 18:21SPEAKER_02: One of the reasons why our relationship works so well is because we don't spend a lot of time with each other.
- 18:25SPEAKER_03: That's funny.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: Um, okay.
- 18:29SPEAKER_02: Sun turns to look down the beach and sees Saeed digging a grave for Shannon.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: It definitely goes from put a full stop on that loving shit.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh, but at the same time, it doesn't.
- 18:43SPEAKER_02: It is another act of love.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it is kind of like your emotions at that scene, it's kind of like it flip-flops like back and forth in a matter of seconds.
- 18:51SPEAKER_02: You're like, oh, oh, oh.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: But it's a solid reminder of how fragile.
- 18:58SPEAKER_02: You know, because just what a night before it was Said and Shannon in the tent.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:04SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 19:06SPEAKER_02: So with one night, two nights, whatever.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure the time difference, but no, one night.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: One well, yeah, yeah.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:16SPEAKER_02: In the swan, Jack watches over a semi-conscious Sawyer who mutters, Where is she?
- 19:24SPEAKER_02: Which Jack assumes refers to Kate.
- 19:26SPEAKER_02: Sawyer whispers, I love her, twice, stunning Jack into silence.
- 19:32SPEAKER_02: Did you think he was referring to Kate?
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Uh, I thought so.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: I think at least I think Jack did.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: He definitely did.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: I don't know who he thought.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, at this point in time, could it be anybody?
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to go through um his storyline, and there was no one else that we've been introduced to.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: So, I mean, who else the only women that we've been introduced to are women that he's scammed?
- 19:58SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: Or, you know, or the the lottery girl that he was with in the hotel, but it wasn't it clearly wasn't like so.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: I mean, at this point, who else at at the at this point, like who else could it possibly be?
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: Because we don't know anyone else.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: While collecting fruit from the jungle, Kate is shocked to see a black horse standing in the undergrowth.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: She returns to the swan to attend to Sawyer and the computer so Jack can attend Shannon's funeral.
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: On the beach, Echo confronts Analysia, saying most of the survivors realize Shannon's death was accidental, but she decides to avoid the funeral.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: At the funeral, Saeed tries to say a few words, but, overcome by emotion, can only declare that he loved her before walking away.
- 20:49SPEAKER_02: Jack, Locke, and the other survivors continue the improvised ceremony by each pouring a handful of sand onto the grave.
- 20:58SPEAKER_02: In the Swan, Kate plays a record of After Midnight by Patsy Klein and tells sleeping Sawyer she thinks she saw a horse outside.
- 21:08SPEAKER_02: Sawyer begins to mumble, and as she leans in to hear better, he grabs her by the neck and says, You killed me.
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: Why did you kill me?
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: I think she thought it was her father slash stepfather slash father again.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: Um ghost or something.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: But what do you think Sawyer is referring to?
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: I don't fucking know.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: Because we do get the answer for Kate, but we don't get the answer for Sawyer.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: I have absolutely no idea.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: I think there's I think at this point I was like, something else I need to put down in my book of questions.
- 21:43SPEAKER_02: Jack and Locke return to the swan to find the alarm blaring.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: Sawyer on the floor, and Kate nowhere to be seen.
- 21:51SPEAKER_02: With only 23 seconds to go, one of the numbers, Locke hastily enters the numbers, resetting the clock to 108.
- 21:59SPEAKER_02: He uses the bolt cutters to finally remove the handcuff Jin has worn on his right hand since attacking Michael weeks previously.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: And after Jin leaves, Michael asks Locke about the blast door in the ceiling, which Locke admits he had not noticed.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: Had you noticed it, or maybe was that something that they didn't show?
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: They didn't show it.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: It's just cause it's like up in the ceiling.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: So it comes down.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: So it was something that you can't see.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: That's something that the camera would pan to.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I just didn't remember if if it was shown before.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: Jack tracks Kate down and accosts her for leaving the swan.
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: Kate shouts, I'm sorry I'm not as perfect as you.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry that I'm not as good.
- 22:42SPEAKER_02: She tries to run away, but Jack grabs her forearm her forearm and pulls her back.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: With the motions reaching a fever pitch, Jack pulls Kate close and holds her.
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: Without warning, Kate kisses him and seemingly shocked by her actions, runs off into the jungle.
- 22:57SPEAKER_02: Jack calls after her, but she does not turn around and he does not follow.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: How do you feel about their kiss and drawn out?
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: It was the expected.
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry, this thing cut.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: It was kind of like it's about it was like time timeline.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: It should happen, like it was about time that it happened.
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: And it was just like, okay, this is it.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: I was kind of indifferent towards it.
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: Locke shows the Dharma orientation film to Michael and Echo and says he has set up two-person shifts every six hours to enter the code.
- 23:31SPEAKER_02: When Locke asks Echo what he thinks, Echo leaves without saying a word.
- 23:35SPEAKER_02: Said goes to Shannon's grave to place his prayer beads on her cross.
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: He discovers Kate sitting there.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: She apologizes for missing the funeral and says she thinks she's going crazy.
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: When asked if he believes in ghosts, Saeed says he saw Walt in the jungle just before Shannon was shot and asks if that makes him crazy too.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: Loc demonstrates to Michael that the keyboard only works when the alarm sounds.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: Michael asks to inspect the equipment and Locke hesitantly agrees, but only if he doesn't break it.
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: Echo calls Locke aside and after leading in with the story about Josiah and the book found during Josiah's rule, reveals a hollowed-out Bible which contains a small reel of 16mm film.
- 24:24SPEAKER_02: So now we know that it was a hollowed-out Bible and it has film inside.
- 24:29SPEAKER_02: But at the same time, he also tells him a Bible story.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: So you still have this connection to religion when it comes to Mr.
- 24:41SPEAKER_02: Echo.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: The book was found by this tale section survivors in the Dharma bunker they inhabited on the other side of the island.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: Locke unrolls the part of the real and recognizes Dr.
- 24:52SPEAKER_02: Marvin Candle from the original film.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: In the jungle, Jack is cutting wood when Hurley approaches, making small talk, eventually leading to the topic of Sawyer.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: Hurley asks Jack if he is mad at Sawyer, which Jack denies.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: Why?
- 25:13SPEAKER_02: Hurley is pretty perceptive.
- 25:15SPEAKER_02: Why would Jack be mad at Sawyer?
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: Oh, because he's in because he thinks he's in love with the woman that he loves.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: And here he was playing flirty flirty golf with her until here comes Sawyer, all boo-boo, and now Kate is hands and foot, not even sleeping, and all her focus is on him.
- 25:39SPEAKER_02: And Jack is gonna be a little whiny bitch baby and pout about it.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: I mean, at least he's jealous.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: I can't even get a date, so you know.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: So he has that going for him.
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: Like he cares enough to be jealous, like slightly, not crazy stalker jealous, but you know, the normal kind of jealous.
- 25:58SPEAKER_02: The normal kind of jealous.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: Kate returns to the swan and relieves Son, who has been tending to Sawyer.
- 26:05SPEAKER_02: Kate asks Sawyer if he can hear her, first saying Sawyer, then Wayne?
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: Sawyer stirs and mumbles inaudibly.
- 26:13SPEAKER_02: Kate, believing that Wayne's ghost has possessed Sawyer's body, confesses aloud that she killed him after finding out he was her biological father.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: It was too much for her to bear to know that the man who she hated would always be a part of her.
- 26:28SPEAKER_02: Furthermore, whenever she had feelings for Sawyer, she couldn't help remembering Wayne.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: Following Kate's confession, Sawyer awakes as his normal self and comments reveal he has heard the whole conversation.
- 26:43SPEAKER_02: Kate is embarrassed but relieved.
- 26:54SPEAKER_02: But that explains a lot about why Kate even more felt like she had to do what she did and why she's drawn to Sawyer, but not but is but is right, but keeps him at a distance.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: Go back to the old adage every little girl wants to marry her dad.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: Not marries a man like her father.
- 27:19SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, whether you mean to or not, you know.
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:26SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 27:27SPEAKER_02: Locke discovers that the film found in the Bible was cut from the original Swan orientation film.
- 27:34SPEAKER_02: Echo and Locke splice the film back into the main film reel.
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: Locke marvels at the odds of them finding the missing piece, but Echo advises him not to mistake coincidence for fate.
- 27:45SPEAKER_02: This is when he says it.
- 27:46SPEAKER_02: I love that line.
- 27:48SPEAKER_02: Which goes back to the last episode or the whole scene of the whole show, actually.
- 27:53SPEAKER_02: But yeah.
- 27:54SPEAKER_02: Definitely the whole, you're right.
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: But the whole Gilgamesh uh reference about, you know, fate and all that.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: She's like all that shit.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: All that shit.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: And all that.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: I combined shit and jazz as a shaz.
- 28:11SPEAKER_02: And all that jazz.
- 28:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 28:13SPEAKER_02: No, I didn't.
- 28:14SPEAKER_02: But that that'll be our new catchphrase.
- 28:15SPEAKER_02: And all that shaz.
- 28:19SPEAKER_02: Stay tuned for more new words.
- 28:24SPEAKER_02: Sawyer believes that they have been rescued, seeing the kitchen, beds, and such in the hatch.
- 28:30SPEAKER_02: Kate shows Sawyer around the swan before taking him outside to prove that they have not been rescued.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: He's like, oh shit.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: They go outside and he really believed that they were rescued.
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: He didn't believe her.
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: He gets outside and he's like, son of a bitch.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: I love him.
- 28:47SPEAKER_02: So I missed him.
- 28:49SPEAKER_02: I missed him.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: It was like what five episodes?
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: Like he just wasn't his cell.
- 28:53SPEAKER_02: Four episodes were right.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: I was like, no.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: But even then, he did his best to be Sawyer.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: Like when he wasn't playing cell, he was still Sawyer.
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: So it was like three episodes where he didn't really Sawyer.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: He wasn't Sawyer.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: Um, let's see what happened in abandon.
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: That's when Shannon got shot initially.
- 29:15SPEAKER_02: The first, you know.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: Okay, but even no, he really didn't speak much.
- 29:19SPEAKER_01: I think when he started, but he but he was still Sawyer until his last like until his like until he passed out.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: And I appreciate that about him.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: Like he was still like, you know, until he couldn't do anymore.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: He's I think I think it hit for him to be a con man, he's still genuine to himself.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: He's still true to himself.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: Whoever, you know, whatever that is.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: I find that ironic for a con man to be so true to himself, to be such to be literally that genuine.
- 29:50SPEAKER_02: He knows who he is.
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: And he makes fault.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: No excuses for it.
- 29:56SPEAKER_02: The two talk until something catches Sawyer's eye.
- 30:00SPEAKER_02: Kate turns to see what he's looking at and sees the black horse standing nearby.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: Kate asks Sawyer if he sees it.
- 30:08SPEAKER_02: Sawyer's like, Oh, you be that big ass horse?
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: Like Kate and Sawyer says he can.
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: Kate approaches and pets the horse before it walks back into the jungle.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: So now there's a fucking horse.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: Like all these animals and these people's lives, like there's just little things that just reinforce certain my certain beliefs I have, that hair won't stop fucking with you.
- 30:32SPEAKER_02: I'm so I'm so sorry.
- 30:33SPEAKER_02: Like it's like the fuck out of me.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: I feel your pain because I like before you reach for it, I I kind of like I want to reach for it my damn self.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: So I feel your pain.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: Um I was gonna say.
- 30:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, so I it's like all these little things like was that the horse from her past?
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: Like it looked like it.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: Like, why is this horse from her supposed past?
- 30:59SPEAKER_01: And then if it's a wild horse that the Dharma initiative happened to bring in, which you know, a black horse is the black horse, you know, for most people.
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: Wild at this point is probably a wild horse, and wild horses aren't exactly friendly with people.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: So I feel like this is her her whore, like it's just weird.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: This whole thing is just weird as fuck.
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: And the next thing I started thinking about is I wonder if Megan, the stallion, knows that stallions are male horses.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: But that was my next thought while watching this episode.
- 31:31SPEAKER_02: Okay, and we're moving on.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: Back at the beach, Jack approaches Anna Lucia, who is sitting carving a steak with her hunting knife.
- 31:43SPEAKER_02: Jack offers her one of the three miniature bottles of tequila, recalling their first meeting at the airport.
- 31:49SPEAKER_02: That was cute.
- 31:50SPEAKER_02: He's like, We're a little low on mixers now.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:53SPEAKER_02: But he remembered.
- 31:55SPEAKER_01: Um, he remembered instantly, like the name.
- 31:58SPEAKER_01: He's like, that's because telling me speaking, I guess it was like less than two months ago, just over a month ago, so it's kind of hard to, you know, it makes sense that he would remember her.
- 32:08SPEAKER_02: Locke and Mr.
- 32:09SPEAKER_02: Echo watch the missing section of film.
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: I thought you were gonna say Locke and Mr.
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: Ed.
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: That's why I'm still stuck with a fucking horse.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 32:18SPEAKER_02: And the horse.
- 32:19SPEAKER_02: The horse came down to the hatch, and they all watched the video.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: Wheelburr.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: Locke and Mr.
- 32:26SPEAKER_02: Echo watch the missing section of the film and I still hear Mr.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: Ed.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: Okay, go ahead.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: Just say Echo because every time he says Mr.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: Ed.
- 32:35SPEAKER_02: But his name is Mr.
- 32:37SPEAKER_02: Echo for the third time.
- 32:41SPEAKER_03: Jesus Christ.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 32:45SPEAKER_02: Locke and Mr.
- 32:46SPEAKER_02: Echo watch the I listen.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: You've said Mr.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: Echo for how many times?
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: How many episodes we talk about?
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: Like you can't even say it.
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: No, I'm gonna mute myself so you can work.
- 33:06SPEAKER_02: No, don't even uh just don't even listen to me.
- 33:09SPEAKER_02: Just do a 10 count and then put them back on.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: Locke and Mr.
- 33:15SPEAKER_02: Echo watch the missing section of film in which Dr.
- 33:18SPEAKER_02: Candle expands on his warning that the computer is to be used only to enter the code.
- 33:25SPEAKER_02: He explains that while the isolation of station three may tempt one to use the computer to communicate with the outside world, such action would compromise the integrity of the project and may lead to another incident.
- 33:40SPEAKER_02: So, once again, we get alluded to the incident, and we still don't know what that is, but it says it would compromise the integrity of the project, and we don't know what that is.
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: I feel like like it makes you think like it's just hitting the button fucking part of the project just to see how like human conditioning goes.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: Um and then they specifically said don't use it to call for help.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: Like, why would I use it to call for help?
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: What the fuck is going on?
- 34:17SPEAKER_01: Like it's a call for help, but just to communicate.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, communicate with the outside worlds.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: I think I think my brain just went.
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: Well, for them, for them it'd be just a call for help.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think that's why I just um but I'm like, I feel like them to specifically say that is for them to say, let's see if they do it.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't know.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: I feel like this whole thing was just experiments with the kids with the marshmallows.
- 34:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think this was the experiment on human pathology and human and the incident, I think was uh unfortunately a byproduct of their experiments.
- 34:54SPEAKER_02: Or it it could just be that there wasn't an incident and it's just like a fear tactic.
- 35:04SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: Like oh, it that there was no incident, right?
- 35:08SPEAKER_02: What if there was no incident, and the whole point of saying the incident is to scare you and you just do what you're told because you're scared of something that you know you hear about but you don't know about.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: It's like they joke, they say when when black people see other black people running, they just run with them, and you're like, fuck it.
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: Like I think it's funny.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: We joke about it because it's like we see someone running, like, okay, there's a fucking good excuse.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: Like the whole mob people are running, I'm gonna get the fuck out.
- 35:43SPEAKER_01: Like some shit went down.
- 35:45SPEAKER_02: Hell, yeah.
- 35:46SPEAKER_00: But even though it's it's kind of funny, because you know, we the the joke is that people that are not of color will run towards what the hell is going on, and then like we see in horror movies, let's go down to the basement when we know like the yeah, Becky, what are you doing?
- 36:07SPEAKER_00: Um no, so I this is I forgot my whole point because I'm not talking.
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: So it was I think it was the whole point of like human conditioning and how the mind works.
- 36:18SPEAKER_00: Like, if you say don't do it, don't do it.
- 36:19SPEAKER_03: Like, okay, right.
- 36:22SPEAKER_01: Me personally, I'm like, fuck you and your button.
- 36:27SPEAKER_01: Like, I wanna see what happened.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: Fuck your couch.
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: Sorry, but because part of it is I'm on this island, and eventually you're gonna get eventually you're gonna be like, I ain't going nowhere.
- 36:39SPEAKER_01: Like, what's stuck here?
- 36:41SPEAKER_01: What's gonna happen?
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: That explodes and I die.
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: Like, you know.
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: So you're like, what the fuck?
- 36:51SPEAKER_00: I guess.
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: I think at one point, at some point you're like, fuck this.
- 36:56SPEAKER_02: I thought I thought you said it was gonna like sail away to the Bermuda Triangle or something.
- 37:00SPEAKER_01: No, talk about like the people on the island, and then eventually you get to the point where you're like, I'm not being saved.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: Like at this point, you're like, I'm not being saved.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: What happens if we don't hit return?
- 37:12SPEAKER_01: What's the worst that can happen?
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: You know, like at the moment, you're like, Yeah, at the same time, I feel like I just said I think I feel like I hit on something, but didn't hit on something, and you try not to acknowledge it.
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: I don't believe it.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: You're just fucking with me.
- 37:36SPEAKER_02: This is you Yes, you figured out the whole show.
- 37:38SPEAKER_02: You got it.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: This is why you see, this is what you get for fucking with me all the time.
- 37:41SPEAKER_00: Because when you're not fucking with me, I think you're fucking with me.
- 37:45SPEAKER_02: That's fair.
- 37:47SPEAKER_02: At the same time, Michael examines the computer equipment.
- 37:52SPEAKER_02: He hears a beeping from the terminal and goes to inspect.
- 37:55SPEAKER_02: He notices there are still 51 minutes remaining on the timer, and the text hello is shown on the screen.
- 38:03SPEAKER_02: Unlike Locke's attempt earlier, Michael is able to enter text and types hello.
- 38:09SPEAKER_02: A moment later, who is this appears, and Michael responds, This is Michael, who is this?
- 38:15SPEAKER_02: After a few seconds, Dad appears on the screen.
- 38:19SPEAKER_02: Michael is stunned to see this.
- 38:23SPEAKER_02: Two things.
- 38:25SPEAKER_02: Number one, what are the odds?
- 38:33SPEAKER_02: What are the odds that it actually is Walt?
- 38:36SPEAKER_02: And what are the odds that you can't get what I mean?
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: Like Locke is like, no, look, you can't use that, and that it has never been tried before until Michael gets there.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: Um because clearly Locke Locke is like, oh yeah, you can't do anything else with it.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: Look, you can't even type.
- 39:00SPEAKER_02: So Locke probably knows that because he tried.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: But now if somebody else had communicated before this, don't you think Locke would have known or had been trying?
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: Because Locke is like a dog with a bone.
- 39:16SPEAKER_02: If somebody had communicated before or wrote a message before, Locke would have spent every moment of his life sitting at that computer trying to figure out how to get how to further communicate and right for whatever reason situations.
- 39:36SPEAKER_01: Well, to answer your question, what are the odds?
- 39:39SPEAKER_01: My only response is don't mistake coincidence for fate.
- 39:47SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's so funny.
- 39:49SPEAKER_00: Isolate me.
- 39:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:53SPEAKER_02: Okay, hold.
- 39:54SPEAKER_02: Hold that thought.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: Okay, that's what I thought.
- 40:02SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 40:04SPEAKER_02: Let's do trivia.
- 40:07SPEAKER_01: No.
- 40:08SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'm excited for trivia.
- 40:10SPEAKER_02: When Kate visits Sam Austin, a TV in the recruitment center shows Saeed being pushed into the back of a car.
- 40:22SPEAKER_02: So you see Saeed on the TV.
- 40:25SPEAKER_02: And I'm pretty sure that it had to do with uh like his arrest in London.
- 40:40SPEAKER_02: You remember when they put him up to go to Australia or something like that to be an environment?
- 40:47SPEAKER_02: I have a feeling it has something to do with that, but I'm not 100% sure.
- 40:52SPEAKER_02: Um okay.
- 40:54SPEAKER_02: This episode marks the first time in the series where Jin and Locke exchange dialogue.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: So to speak.
- 41:04SPEAKER_01: I mean I mean, you know, one in this I mean they do exchange dialogue, but doesn't I mean they don't I mean yes and no.
- 41:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, comp words are spoken, but normally like I don't know if they do.
- 41:21SPEAKER_02: I don't know if they've ever there are characters who really have like never spoken to each other.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: I don't know, but in this case they did it.
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: This is the first time, so to speak, even though like there's a language barrier.
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: That's why I say yes, so to speak.
- 41:35SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 41:36SPEAKER_01: Because how much of an exchange if both parties don't understand what the other one is saying.
- 41:43SPEAKER_02: But even if it's in a different language, wouldn't that still be considered dialogue?
- 41:47SPEAKER_01: No, I'm asking.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: I'm asking how much is that really to mean that they actually had lines together to do that?
- 41:54SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 41:55SPEAKER_02: Right, like regardless of language.
- 41:58SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, no.
- 41:59SPEAKER_01: I get that, but now I'm just questioning, like, well now you gotta go back and watch the whole thing from the start.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: No, mine's more of a a question of uh theoretical question.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: How much of a is dialogue?
- 42:10SPEAKER_01: I think I had to look up the definition of dialogue to know, like, do people you know, is there a give and take?
- 42:16SPEAKER_01: Because it's hard to have a give and take if they don't understand.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: Like Michael and yet, they do have dialogue because they they seem to work, there is an understanding between them.
- 42:27SPEAKER_01: But does Locke have the whole time?
- 42:30SPEAKER_02: Jim was speaking Korean, and I would still consider and Michael's speaking English, but I would still consider that dialogue.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: No, that's what I'm saying.
- 42:37SPEAKER_02: They're clearly, regardless of the language, they're clearly communicating to each other.
- 42:42SPEAKER_02: That's what I just said.
- 42:43SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 42:43SPEAKER_02: With Locke, this is the first time that they are trying to communicate with each other.
- 42:50SPEAKER_02: That's what that's what I'm saying.
- 42:52SPEAKER_02: I'm agreeing with the oh that's what I you had me confused.
- 42:56SPEAKER_02: I don't know what you were talking about.
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: No, I said, but that's what I said.
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: Is it really dialogue if they don't understand each other?
- 43:01SPEAKER_01: Whereas Michael and Yen, they do understand each other, even though they don't speak the same language.
- 43:06SPEAKER_02: Okay, next.
- 43:08SPEAKER_02: Kate confused me.
- 43:10SPEAKER_02: Beth Broderick appeared as a waitress in a diner.
- 43:13SPEAKER_02: That's uh Kate's mom.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: Kate's mom.
- 43:16SPEAKER_02: Not only in Lost, but also in the television show Under the Dome.
- 43:21SPEAKER_02: The End of the World by Skeeter Davis, the song playing as Kate walks into the diner, and Broderick's character Diane Janssen is introduced, was also a song played in Under the Dome.
- 43:36SPEAKER_02: Okay, so some of the things that we got from this episode were Michael, who wants to know about the blast doors.
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: So maybe there was an actual incident if there's blast doors.
- 43:50unknown: Right.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: If there was just a basic experiment, blast doors, I don't think would be it's not one of the staple things you put into a, you know, you know, something like, hmm.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: Maybe something did happen.
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: Or they expected something could happen based on the experiment.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: And he can he also communicates with somebody on the computer who we get we're supposed to assume is Walt.
- 44:25SPEAKER_01: You think I um I don't know yet.
- 44:31SPEAKER_02: I'll be honest, when I first saw this, I did not think it was Walt.
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: I don't know yet.
- 44:39SPEAKER_01: I'm 50-50.
- 44:40SPEAKER_01: Honestly, I it could be Walt, it could not be Walt.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: And the fact that when Walt comes to when Shannon saw him, he was wet, even when it wasn't raining.
- 44:51SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, is he that's like he's not really alive?
- 44:54SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, I don't think he's alive.
- 44:58SPEAKER_01: So I feel like, and if he is communicate, I feel like maybe, and if it is Walt, I don't think it's Walt.
- 45:04SPEAKER_01: Walt.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: It's just weird.
- 45:06SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 45:09SPEAKER_02: So finally, Jin's handcuffs are removed.
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: And every time I see him, I'm like, they haven't found anything to hit that shit off yet.
- 45:16SPEAKER_01: Like, I know they haven't, you know, because they didn't get the hatch until afterwards, but I'm like, damn, not shit.
- 45:22SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 45:23SPEAKER_02: Because the day that they blew open the hatch was the day that they left on the back.
- 45:27SPEAKER_02: So like, damn.
- 45:28SPEAKER_02: And Michael Michael makes a comment to him, something like feels good, right?
- 45:32SPEAKER_02: But like you fucking put it on him.
- 45:34SPEAKER_01: I think that's the whole point.
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: I think that was kind of like a little tongue-in-cheek.
- 45:38SPEAKER_01: They've come far.
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they've they're buddies.
- 45:41SPEAKER_01: Because even we speak Korean at this point now.
- 45:43SPEAKER_01: Like, even we gotta understand it.
- 45:45SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 45:48SPEAKER_02: Um, Saeed gives the eulogy for Shannon.
- 45:52SPEAKER_02: And he also gave the eulogy for Boone.
- 45:55SPEAKER_02: And why do you think the orientation film was edited?
- 46:03SPEAKER_02: What do you think the point of that was?
- 46:05SPEAKER_01: I have absolutely no idea.
- 46:08SPEAKER_02: And and the thing is, like the film is pretty self-explanatory, okay, in its in its quote unquote original form.
- 46:18SPEAKER_02: Meaning like with all the pieces in it that belong in it.
- 46:23SPEAKER_02: But somebody took the pieces out about using a computer, but they didn't throw it away, they put it somewhere else.
- 46:31SPEAKER_02: I'm why take out the pieces about communicating with the computer?
- 46:37SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 46:37SPEAKER_02: Like, that's the question.
- 46:39SPEAKER_02: Not only did you edit you edited it, but what the part that you removed is the part that you didn't want somebody to see.
- 46:48SPEAKER_02: So, did you want somebody to s to use the computer?
- 46:53SPEAKER_02: Like you know what I mean?
- 46:55SPEAKER_01: So I think it was back to you to someone that they can't do something because they're gonna do it.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: So we don't mention it at all, it's never it's never part, it's never part of your thought process.
- 47:03SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 47:04SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 47:07SPEAKER_02: The title, what Kate Did.
- 47:11SPEAKER_01: I feel like for this to be titled What Kate Did it wasn't a huge part of the show of the episode.
- 47:22SPEAKER_02: It gave a a good like a finally, like what did she do?
- 47:27SPEAKER_02: Finally, we know what she did.
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: But it was still kind of like an afterthought for the episode.
- 47:33SPEAKER_01: It was like an episodal afterthought.
- 47:37SPEAKER_01: Because I feel like in the jungle was made part of this particular episode.
- 47:44SPEAKER_01: Because even in the episode I think in the past, even when they had a flashback, that person was still centric and on the jungle in the jungle too, and everyone else was an afterthought.
- 47:56SPEAKER_01: And I felt in this episode the flashback was an afterthought.
- 47:59SPEAKER_01: It's kind of weird.
- 48:01SPEAKER_02: Um, could what she did also be referring to her kissing Jack?
- 48:11SPEAKER_01: It could, but I don't think it was that.
- 48:13SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm reaching, but it wasn't that imp it wasn't that important to the episode.
- 48:18SPEAKER_01: No, definitely not.
- 48:20SPEAKER_02: I mean, I guess that that's it, but how about okay, so how about after seeing another Kate episode and and knowing for sure what she did, what are your feelings on Kate now?
- 48:37SPEAKER_02: Now that's like history is gone.
- 48:40SPEAKER_01: I still like Kate.
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: I like Kate and I get and like I don't know.
- 48:46SPEAKER_01: I still hold true to everything I said about her in the past.
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: Everything makes sense, everything's fallen into place, and now it's like what's going on with the love triangle.
- 48:58SPEAKER_02: That's what I was gonna ask you next.
- 49:02SPEAKER_02: But she clearly has feelings for Sawyer, admittedly so.
- 49:06SPEAKER_02: So now what?
- 49:07SPEAKER_02: And now Sawyer's back, Sawyer's healed, but she kissed Jack.
- 49:13SPEAKER_01: I like Sawyer over Jack.
- 49:14SPEAKER_01: I think they get I think her and Sawyer get each other.
- 49:20SPEAKER_01: They understand each other more.
- 49:25SPEAKER_02: Next week's episode is called the the 23rd Psalm, and it is a Mr.
- 49:33SPEAKER_02: Echo centric episode.
- 49:36SPEAKER_02: So, thoughts on him?
- 49:40SPEAKER_02: What do you think his background was, or you know, anything you're hoping to learn?
- 49:47SPEAKER_01: He was, I don't know, he was okay.
- 49:53SPEAKER_01: Wait, he stopped talking because he killed the guy, right?
- 49:57SPEAKER_01: As as penance, right?
- 50:00SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 50:04SPEAKER_01: So I feel like okay, maybe this is just stereotypical, but he's from a worn-torn country in Africa.
- 50:09SPEAKER_01: He was forced, he was as a child forced to fight.
- 50:14SPEAKER_01: And he doesn't want to fight anymore.
- 50:16SPEAKER_01: So I don't know.
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's his.
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: I mean, typical stereotypical, like so specific.
- 50:23SPEAKER_01: Because, okay, so he's obviously okay, he's obviously from an African country.
- 50:27SPEAKER_01: He doesn't have any Caribbean, he doesn't have any Caribbean accent.
- 50:31SPEAKER_01: Okay, but so whatever country in Africa is from.
- 50:35SPEAKER_02: So I think But there's plenty of people from this country who still have accents from where they their culture is, but they've never been there, and it's only because they learn how to speak from you know how many kids in my program have funny little accents because they spend time with their grandparents.
- 50:52SPEAKER_02: Okay, so they have like little accents.
- 50:54SPEAKER_02: But this is lost.
- 50:55SPEAKER_01: And everyone that came from this fucking islet from Australia on the plane or from different parts of the fucking world.
- 51:00unknown: Okay.
- 51:01SPEAKER_02: This is lost.
- 51:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:04SPEAKER_02: So clearly he was in Australia.
- 51:06SPEAKER_02: So if you think that he wasn't in Australia, but everyone in Australia.
- 51:13SPEAKER_01: But no one from that no one from okay, with exception of Claire.
- 51:18SPEAKER_01: No one else on that plane was from Australia.
- 51:22SPEAKER_01: They were passing by thus far.
- 51:25SPEAKER_02: Cindy sounds like she's from Australia.
- 51:29SPEAKER_01: Cindy was a stewardess.
- 51:31SPEAKER_02: Flight attendant.
- 51:32SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 51:36SPEAKER_00: She was a flight stewardess.
- 51:41SPEAKER_00: I did that as you were drinking intentionally.
- 51:45SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 51:46SPEAKER_00: She was a stewardess, so like you're gonna text me on middle finger?
- 51:55SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 51:55SPEAKER_02: Um, but okay, we don't know anything about Mr.
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: Echo except that oh wait, he's from Australia.
- 52:08SPEAKER_01: Okay, maybe he is from Australia and he's he's um and I don't know.
- 52:14SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 52:16SPEAKER_01: He's just so dead set against violence.
- 52:19SPEAKER_01: I there's a story behind that.
- 52:21SPEAKER_01: Like, I mean, like, okay, most people in the TV world, most people in the TV world aren't so dead set against violence, right?
- 52:33SPEAKER_01: Because they have a story.
- 52:35SPEAKER_02: Even in contrast, you have Kate talking to her father saying, Well, why didn't you just kill him?
- 52:40SPEAKER_02: Like, is that really just an option for people?
- 52:43SPEAKER_01: Okay, so according to most people in the world, that is an American normal.
- 52:52SPEAKER_01: That's normal to think Americans think that way.
- 52:55SPEAKER_01: Because you know what I mean?
- 52:56SPEAKER_01: You know, um, I feel like most countries, like, because without with our rights to bear arms and the way we feel about guns as a country, yeah, it was like, what the fuck is wrong with you people?
- 53:06SPEAKER_01: Like it was look so on the outside looking at Americans, yeah, that is kind of a normal okay, but but American but that would be like somebody if somebody who was not from the US wrote that scene, or but you but Kate and her father are from the United States, right?
- 53:28SPEAKER_01: So, and that's Kate's logic is why don't you just kill him?
- 53:31SPEAKER_01: Because as Americans, that's how we we don't I don't think we take violence of that nature.
- 53:39SPEAKER_01: I think as a mat we're very flippant when it comes to violence.
- 53:42SPEAKER_02: I yeah, I mean I I think that we're we tend to be desensitized to some of it, but but at the same time, like I don't just dislike someone no matter what and just be like, Well, why don't you just kill them?
- 53:54SPEAKER_02: Like it's not the trash, you don't just put it out and be done with it.
- 53:57SPEAKER_02: Like, no, this is a person, there's repercussions, there's like this is a person, you don't just kill them.
- 54:04SPEAKER_01: Also coming from a person who somehow be abused by this man, and also find out who is her father who look at her.
- 54:10SPEAKER_01: Like, she's this is coming from a person that looked at this man who who turned out to be her father that looked like he wanted to fuck her and be her mother.
- 54:17SPEAKER_01: So, yeah.
- 54:18SPEAKER_02: Okay, I mean, yeah, I do see that side.
- 54:22SPEAKER_02: I just still think that like killing is very it is a very extreme reaction and answer to that problem.
- 54:30SPEAKER_01: No, absolutely.
- 54:31SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying no, no, no.
- 54:32SPEAKER_01: I agree with you, but I think as a whole, comparing I mean, run him over, chop his dick off.
- 54:37SPEAKER_01: Lorraine Bob at his ass, like but we're comparing someone who's not an American, we know where he's from.
- 54:43SPEAKER_01: I'm assuming, we're assuming, and then Kate who's American, for the most part, Americans.
- 54:49SPEAKER_01: The last time we saw, I want to say we are in like 2005.
- 54:56SPEAKER_01: The last time we saw, like a lot with everyone in the country's life was affected by war, was the civil war.
- 55:06SPEAKER_01: So Americans take that kind of violence, your everyday violence.
- 55:10SPEAKER_01: We don't look at it the same way as someone from Turkey or Iran or Syria.
- 55:18SPEAKER_01: Like, I think there they take viol, like they look at it very differently than Americans do, because we are and that's it.
- 55:26SPEAKER_01: America is the white privilege of the world.
- 55:28SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 55:29SPEAKER_02: We just well, the United States, because um America, if you want to be technical, encompasses a larger area than just the United States.
- 55:38SPEAKER_01: I I said America, I didn't as a shortened version of the United States.
- 55:41SPEAKER_01: I didn't say North America, I said America.
- 55:44SPEAKER_02: But there's North America, South America, Latin America, so it's just it's okay.
- 55:50SPEAKER_01: I get it, but when we say America, we're shortening United States of America.
- 55:53SPEAKER_02: Well, yeah, because that's our whole US centric way of seeing as America just means us.
- 56:00SPEAKER_01: I think it's just a shortening United States of America.
- 56:03SPEAKER_01: It's a it is it's just we're just abbreviating it, but I see I see us most normal people see it when I say America, I see the 50 states, and I'm not I'm not I'm not assuming the entire president of North America what we have turned it into.
- 56:21SPEAKER_01: But whatever.
- 56:23SPEAKER_01: I think you're just making it too big of an issue.
- 56:25SPEAKER_01: Like we're abbreviating, and like in this can okay, let me rephrase it.
- 56:29SPEAKER_01: For the purposes conversation, I am abbreviating the United States and just saying America.
- 56:35SPEAKER_01: I in no way am I saying the entire continent.
- 56:39SPEAKER_01: Oh, because I understand North America, South America, I understand that there's three countries in North America, and I am I'm just using it as an abbreviation.
- 56:47SPEAKER_02: I understand I under look, I understand what you're saying.
- 56:50SPEAKER_02: And yes, when most people say America, that they do mean the United States.
- 56:54SPEAKER_02: I it's just a pet peeve of mine because it's so like uh megalomaniac of us to just assume that we could just call ourselves America as if there weren't other countries that fall into the category.
- 57:09SPEAKER_02: And it's so so much so that when you say America, you don't even question.
- 57:14SPEAKER_02: Oh, you mean North America, South America, Latin America, like whatever.
- 57:18SPEAKER_01: It's all because there's a difference between saying America and the Americas.
- 57:25SPEAKER_01: So it's assumed when someone says America, I'm talking about the United States.
- 57:28SPEAKER_01: Now, yes, I know that the Americas, but if I was saying oh, the Americas and talk about the 50 states, that's what I'm being I'm being geocentric as far as assuming the country.
- 57:39SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 57:40SPEAKER_01: I can we agree to disagree?
- 57:43SPEAKER_01: We um yeah, because I'm I'm getting this is I completely forgot my entire point of my statement.
- 57:48SPEAKER_01: So let's move on to something else.
- 57:50SPEAKER_01: Because I think we just took it to a whole new level that didn't need to go.
- 57:54SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 57:56SPEAKER_02: So Echo is from somewhere and he did something, and we will learn about him next week.
- 58:01SPEAKER_02: Well, next episode.
- 58:03SPEAKER_01: Okay, next episode, yes.
- 58:06SPEAKER_02: Anything, any last-minute words of wisdom?
- 58:10SPEAKER_01: None.
- 58:12SPEAKER_01: None, none at all.
- 58:14SPEAKER_02: Okay, alrighty then.

- 59:29SPEAKER_02: I'm Lucia.
- 59:31SPEAKER_02: And I'm Agnes, and we're out of here.
- 59:48SPEAKER_02: Jack approaches Anna Lucia, who is sitting car carving a stick.
- 59:54SPEAKER_02: I was like, what?
- 59:56SPEAKER_03: Eating a cake Oh my god.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_02: Back at the beach, Anna J Hold on.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_02: Cause when you're flubbing your words, there's nothing like a little more alcohol.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_01: Alcohol to make you Yeah.
