- 0:28Speaker 2: one space Shuttle from Space Force. This is Trek Cast,
- 0:33Speaker 2: the Galaxy's most unpredictable Star Trek podcast. Today on the show,
- 0:39Speaker 2: we're going to talk about Masters of the Universe as
- 0:42Speaker 2: quickly as we possibly can, because that was difficult. Plus
- 0:47Speaker 2: we've got we've got Star Trek News and your listener feedback.
- 0:52Speaker 2: I am Scott Boucher's and now the Masters of the
- 0:57Speaker 2: Trek Cast Universe Daniel Reyes. And he did, that's right.
- 1:03Speaker 3: What's up? What's up? What's up?
- 1:06Speaker 2: How do you?
- 1:06Speaker 3: How do you?
- 1:07Speaker 4: He didn't just sounds like somebody who can't speak properly, like, uh,
- 1:10Speaker 4: he did?
- 1:11Speaker 5: Right?
- 1:12Speaker 2: He did? He did answer.
- 1:17Speaker 5: That's right.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Who oh man?
- 1:24Speaker 5: How you guys been.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Doing good? Doing good?
- 1:28Speaker 3: I'm tired working all weekend, working.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Now on my way to work now, so yep, yep.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I put in almost sixty hours last week.
- 1:37Speaker 3: So nice.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I'm sure.
- 1:43Speaker 4: He's dancing the shuttle craft. I don't know if he
- 1:44Speaker 4: can answer this. Are you on Earth right now? Or
- 1:47Speaker 4: another planet?
- 1:48Speaker 3: I am on Earth?
- 1:51Speaker 5: Okay?
- 1:51Speaker 3: Don't don't ask me which earth.
- 1:54Speaker 5: Oh oh, okay, this is.
- 1:57Speaker 2: This is section thirty one of Spaceports were talking about.
- 2:00Speaker 5: That's right, we got Yeah did I say that right?
- 2:09Speaker 3: The Stargate go to alternate earths, they just go to
- 2:11Speaker 3: other planets.
- 2:12Speaker 5: I don't know. I don't watch my trash.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Wow, we just lost a third of our listeners.
- 2:22Speaker 3: And I hope Chad's listening.
- 2:25Speaker 5: That's right. Oh when I say that too.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Well, we got lots of talk about I'm gonna be
- 2:33Speaker 2: talking about the KAMS comic Con later and a brand
- 2:36Speaker 2: new restaurant that just opened up in my area that's
- 2:39Speaker 2: really really cool. But uh, but we got some other
- 2:41Speaker 2: things to go through first.
- 2:42Speaker 5: So oh yeah, yeah, we should probably get to the news.
- 2:45Speaker 5: So let's do it. Let's get to it.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Star Trek News.
- 2:51Speaker 4: All right, so our first news story. These pictures have
- 2:55Speaker 4: been making the rounds this week, but it is.
- 2:58Speaker 5: It is. Uh.
- 2:59Speaker 4: Some people are having a really tough time with it
- 3:00Speaker 4: right now. But the sets for Star Trek Strange New
- 3:05Speaker 4: Worlds and for Starfleet Academy are officially being torn down.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Here's an image of that tear down going on right now.
- 3:15Speaker 4: This comes to us from Trek Central as you can
- 3:18Speaker 4: see the rigging for the lights are being torn down.
- 3:21Speaker 5: You can see some of like the the.
- 3:23Speaker 4: Just dust on the ground from all the dirty lights.
- 3:27Speaker 4: It's just falling down like rain. There's also a shot
- 3:32Speaker 4: of the Enterprise from Strange New Worlds. Couldn't find that
- 3:35Speaker 4: image before the show. But the whole console pad is
- 3:39Speaker 4: being torn apart. It's all just being torn And then
- 3:43Speaker 4: what's going to happen now is there's actually going to
- 3:47Speaker 4: be an.
- 3:49Speaker 5: Auction coming up.
- 3:51Speaker 4: So if you're interested in some of this stuff, you
- 3:53Speaker 4: can definitely buy the auction.
- 3:55Speaker 5: Let me see if I can pull that up. Yeah,
- 3:57Speaker 5: here it is.
- 3:58Speaker 3: You know what that says to me?
- 4:00Speaker 5: What's that?
- 4:01Speaker 3: It confirms?
- 4:03Speaker 6: It confirms everything that the cancelation of this show is
- 4:07Speaker 6: about money. Yes's not popular enough. It did make enough money,
- 4:15Speaker 6: and that's why it got canceled. Right, they know the
- 4:18Speaker 6: sets of value. Normally that's stuff they rip it out
- 4:22Speaker 6: and they throw it in a dumpster. But they know,
- 4:24Speaker 6: you know, Star Trek people, they'll buy this ship. Let's
- 4:27Speaker 6: have the auction because of money.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Yep.
- 4:33Speaker 4: It's sad well, and the auction goes to benefit a charity. Uh,
- 4:39Speaker 4: what does it do something dot org. But the auction
- 4:43Speaker 4: has not yet begun. It's going to be at four
- 4:46Speaker 4: oh for four oh three auction dot com. One of
- 4:50Speaker 4: the things I read about in the fine print of
- 4:52Speaker 4: this auction that I thought was interesting is because it's
- 4:57Speaker 4: so some of these pieces are so large, and because
- 5:00Speaker 4: they're just rushing to get this auction going, so it'll
- 5:04Speaker 4: happen any day now, we don't have a date just
- 5:06Speaker 4: yet that they don't have shipping set up. So if
- 5:10Speaker 4: you win this auction, you have to go to the
- 5:13Speaker 4: auction house and pick up your item. Oh yeah, yeah, basically.
- 5:21Speaker 2: And you need to go to god knows where.
- 5:24Speaker 4: It's it's in Canada. Yeah, yeah, Ontario, I think.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Okay, well you're the closest to so you can pick
- 5:33Speaker 2: up our stuff Ontario.
- 5:34Speaker 5: I think you might be closer to Ontario.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Maybe, I am. Well, don't they film all that stuff in.
- 5:42Speaker 4: North of uh in Vancouver, which is Vancouver, but but
- 5:46Speaker 4: this is Ontario, which is on the other side.
- 5:49Speaker 2: So yeah, so they break it down, they ship it
- 5:54Speaker 2: over to Ontario.
- 5:55Speaker 5: Yep, and from there you got to pick it up.
- 5:58Speaker 2: So all right, well, if you guys order anything, I'll
- 6:01Speaker 2: go pick it up in my pickup truck.
- 6:03Speaker 5: There you go, there you go.
- 6:05Speaker 4: So yeah, So if you want to take part in it,
- 6:07Speaker 4: it's a four oh three auction dot com. There's a
- 6:11Speaker 4: link for it in our show notes and you can
- 6:14Speaker 4: figure it out. Figure out how to get your giant
- 6:17Speaker 4: console or whatever it is you get across international borders.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Good luck ex Yeah, that conversation with customs. You're here
- 6:27Speaker 2: for business and pleasure? Can it be both?
- 6:30Speaker 5: So you bought a ray gun from space offer?
- 6:39Speaker 2: Oh boy, good luck? Good luck?
- 6:47Speaker 5: You know what the you know what the guard will
- 6:49Speaker 5: say to you for that?
- 6:50Speaker 2: Wow, So ner get out. I ain't got time to
- 6:55Speaker 2: be destructed by your work. This chime hass going.
- 6:59Speaker 5: Sorry I needed to. It is the anti nerd alert
- 7:04Speaker 5: for sure.
- 7:05Speaker 7: For sure.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Well, speaking of nerd alert, our next new story comes
- 7:09Speaker 4: to us from what was that dead?
- 7:17Speaker 3: No, I'm going through an area. You guys are getting choppy.
- 7:20Speaker 3: It'll come back. Go ahead, okay, all right?
- 7:23Speaker 4: So our next new story comes to us from the
- 7:26Speaker 4: Dropping Names podcast with Brent and Johnny. This is the
- 7:30Speaker 4: U the Riker and Data podcast.
- 7:33Speaker 5: That's been going. It's pretty good.
- 7:35Speaker 4: They they recently had a pretty interesting story about a
- 7:39Speaker 4: pretty great like the most eighties caper crime you'll ever hear.
- 7:45Speaker 4: So instead of just reading about it, I took a
- 7:48Speaker 4: clip from the show and we're gonna just play the
- 7:50Speaker 4: clip and let Riker explain the story to us.
- 7:53Speaker 5: So here we go.
- 7:54Speaker 8: A thousand dollars worth of star Teck uniforms. It were stolen. Great,
- 7:58Speaker 8: Mary Howard tracked them and then the FBI was called in.
- 8:01Speaker 8: It turns out they found out who they were and
- 8:03Speaker 8: they were having a meeting to swap the eighty two
- 8:06Speaker 8: thousand dollars worth of costumes for the kit car from
- 8:09Speaker 8: Night Rider. So in the desert, the Larry Duke's teamster
- 8:12Speaker 8: takes Mary Howard and the FBI down to the desert,
- 8:15Speaker 8: got binoculars. Looking down at the desert, the two semis
- 8:17Speaker 8: back up to each other. The uniforms come out of
- 8:19Speaker 8: one semi and the kit car comes out of the
- 8:21Speaker 8: other semi. The FBI approaches and arrests everybody. True story,
- 8:26Speaker 8: How great is that?
- 8:28Speaker 5: So there you go.
- 8:30Speaker 2: That's insane.
- 8:32Speaker 4: Yeah, somebody who's sold eighty two thousand dollars worth of
- 8:35Speaker 4: Starfleet uniforms for the kid.
- 8:38Speaker 2: That's gotta be worth an episode of CSI or NCIS
- 8:43Speaker 2: or FBI. Yeah, I mean, honestly, CBS has all those shows.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Make it happen.
- 8:54Speaker 5: Well, they've got the.
- 8:55Speaker 4: Star Trek ones for sure, I think the Kit Cars NBC.
- 8:58Speaker 4: So they'll have to swap it up for something else.
- 9:01Speaker 4: Maybe maybe a'll do like the Magnum.
- 9:02Speaker 2: P I Car yeah or something, yeah, something.
- 9:06Speaker 5: Something that they have the rights. But either way, I
- 9:08Speaker 5: guarantee that's being pitched.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that would be great.
- 9:13Speaker 5: Oh, it's it's a great story. It's hilarious.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Oh my goodness.
- 9:17Speaker 5: Yeah, so a good bit. And then, uh, one the
- 9:30Speaker 5: last news story I wanted to bring up.
- 9:32Speaker 4: I know people were interested in this and uh and
- 9:35Speaker 4: people were talking about it. But you know, there's currently
- 9:38Speaker 4: a petition right now to try to get uh Starfleet
- 9:42Speaker 4: Academy back to get a third season. Uh the petition
- 9:46Speaker 4: right now, let's see, the petition sits at just over
- 9:49Speaker 4: forty two thousand, which there was a story going around
- 9:53Speaker 4: to just after we after we hit the left the
- 9:56Speaker 4: area yet last time, Red Letter Media was talking about
- 10:01Speaker 4: their insider source saying that they had viewership numbers for
- 10:05Speaker 4: Star Trek Academy and that for all ten episodes cumulatively
- 10:11Speaker 4: only four hundred thousand people watched the episodes, so not
- 10:15Speaker 4: per episode, four hundred thousand total for all ten episodes,
- 10:20Speaker 4: so roughly about forty thousand viewers per episode. So it
- 10:24Speaker 4: seems like everybody watched it, signed the sign the petition.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Like every member of Trek Cast watched it. That was it.
- 10:32Speaker 5: That was it.
- 10:33Speaker 4: So a lot of people are are saying, wow, we
- 10:37Speaker 4: got forty two thousand signatures.
- 10:38Speaker 5: That's really good. For sure, they'll have to bring it
- 10:41Speaker 5: back now.
- 10:42Speaker 4: I just want to give you a perspective that that's
- 10:44Speaker 4: forty two thousand people wanting the show back. Let me
- 10:48Speaker 4: give you another show that also had a petition that
- 10:52Speaker 4: did not return despite its its fans wanting it.
- 10:56Speaker 5: That would be The Acolyte, who currently sits at eighty
- 10:59Speaker 5: five thousand signatures, and that shows coming back. Yeah, so yeah, yeah,
- 11:12Speaker 5: it's just it just was not as popular as people
- 11:14Speaker 5: hoped it would.
- 11:16Speaker 2: You know, as as low as these numbers are, it's
- 11:18Speaker 2: starting to make me think that, you know, maybe we
- 11:21Speaker 2: Trek Cast had something to do with its demise. Maybe
- 11:26Speaker 2: our influence.
- 11:28Speaker 9: Yeah sure, sure, I mean based on the numbers, well, the.
- 11:35Speaker 5: Numbers are not good, you know. Yeah, it's it's pretty
- 11:41Speaker 5: rough that they're uh, they're so they're so low. So
- 11:46Speaker 5: I just wanted to share that perspective. So people kind
- 11:49Speaker 5: of knew, you know when they when they debated online
- 11:53Speaker 5: is as nerds love to do.
- 11:55Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, but that's.
- 11:58Speaker 5: That's all the news stories. Should we get to the
- 12:02Speaker 5: main topic.
- 12:04Speaker 2: I guess Okay, come on.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Your idea.
- 12:09Speaker 2: I will now.
- 12:10Speaker 5: Comment you are one hundred percent right.
- 12:16Speaker 2: It was his idea, it was my idea. And if if,
- 12:20Speaker 2: if you guys need to fire me for this, then
- 12:23Speaker 2: I understand.
- 12:24Speaker 6: So I got this or did you see it as
- 12:28Speaker 6: a kid?
- 12:29Speaker 2: If I saw it as a kid, I do not
- 12:30Speaker 2: remember a single frame of it.
- 12:33Speaker 5: Well that's because the mind forgets trauma.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, I don't think i've ever seen this.
- 12:40Speaker 6: I saw this in the theater, so I was disappointed,
- 12:45Speaker 6: h thirty nine years ago and.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Disappointed again last night.
- 12:51Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, I I also saw it in the theater.
- 12:57Speaker 5: SA in the theater as well.
- 12:59Speaker 3: What did you do thirty nine years ago?
- 13:01Speaker 5: Oh this is the first movie. Like you have to remember,
- 13:04Speaker 5: I was I was six when this came out, right,
- 13:07Speaker 5: So like as a six year old, you're you're prime
- 13:09Speaker 5: to just love anything, right, Yeah, this was the first
- 13:14Speaker 5: movie that made me realize, oh, movies can be bad.
- 13:17Speaker 4: Yeah, even as a kid. Literally as a kid, I
- 13:22Speaker 4: turned to my nause. My aunt took me to see it.
- 13:24Speaker 5: And I asked her, can we go to another theater
- 13:28Speaker 5: maybe they have a better version of the movie. Is
- 13:31Speaker 5: that I didn't realize it was the same.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Movie, right, right?
- 13:36Speaker 5: So that's funny too. Yeah.
- 13:40Speaker 3: The very first scene I remember, the very first scene
- 13:44Speaker 3: of this movie is.
- 13:47Speaker 6: Castle Grayskull is right, And I can remember being ten
- 13:51Speaker 6: years old and thinking to myself.
- 13:53Speaker 3: What the hell is that?
- 13:55Speaker 6: Yeah, that's fun not Castle Graysco. I have Castle Greyskill
- 13:58Speaker 6: at home. I've see Castle gray School five days a
- 14:01Speaker 6: week for the.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Last three years. That's that's not what it looks like.
- 14:05Speaker 2: And that was not it.
- 14:08Speaker 3: So it was kind of, you know, it's kind of
- 14:11Speaker 3: all downhill. Yeah there, So the plot and then go
- 14:19Speaker 3: into it or just tear it apart?
- 14:21Speaker 4: What do you how do you want to Let's just
- 14:22Speaker 4: tear it apart this movie. If they're watching this, they know,
- 14:27Speaker 4: you know.
- 14:28Speaker 2: I don't want to upset my good pal Robbie mcdunk.
- 14:31Speaker 3: You know.
- 14:32Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, this is what his first movie wasn't it.
- 14:36Speaker 2: I believe. So yeah, yeah, which, Okay, can I give
- 14:42Speaker 2: this a compliment? Sandwich? Real quick? Can I can I
- 14:44Speaker 2: give this the.
- 14:45Speaker 3: I got some good things to say about it.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Okay, this had This had some decent ingredients.
- 14:53Speaker 3: I thought.
- 14:54Speaker 2: I thought it was. It was a very simple, basic plot,
- 14:57Speaker 2: and because I was able to follow it, like, good
- 15:00Speaker 2: guys have this thing that the bad guys had and
- 15:03Speaker 2: they need it, and then they go to another dimension
- 15:06Speaker 2: and it's something unfamiliar to them, and then they lose
- 15:10Speaker 2: the thing, and then they get the thing back, and
- 15:12Speaker 2: then the bad guys coming to get the thing, and
- 15:14Speaker 2: then they need the thing to do the thing that
- 15:16Speaker 2: I sort of understood, you know. So so I had
- 15:19Speaker 2: a pretty basic, understandable, non convoluted plot. I thought there
- 15:26Speaker 2: were There was at least thirty nine seconds of real
- 15:29Speaker 2: decent acting throughout the movie. There were a couple of
- 15:33Speaker 2: moments that I thought, these these people are really acting.
- 15:36Speaker 2: I actually enjoyed Robert Duncan McNeill's performance. I liked this character.
- 15:42Speaker 2: I liked Monica's performance. I mean, what's her face from Friends?
- 15:47Speaker 2: I thought she it was interesting. You know, Dolph Lungren
- 15:55Speaker 2: is Dolph Luck Right, Uh, we're supposed to be dubbed
- 16:03Speaker 2: and they ran out of money. Yes, yep, there was
- 16:08Speaker 2: a lot of hey, we ran out of money in
- 16:10Speaker 2: this movie.
- 16:11Speaker 3: But good, go ahead continue.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Uh No, that's that's all I had to say, the
- 16:16Speaker 2: good the good parts, So.
- 16:18Speaker 6: I'll give you my good parts. Frank Langella as Skeletor
- 16:23Speaker 6: killed it.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Yes, yeah.
- 16:28Speaker 6: Did he sound like did he sound like Skeleton from
- 16:31Speaker 6: the comic? He didn't, he absolutely did. If he tried to,
- 16:36Speaker 6: it probably would have been awful. Did he sound like
- 16:40Speaker 6: an evil maniac bent on world domination? Yeah, yeah he did.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:48Speaker 3: He's got some acting chops, so he was good.
- 16:52Speaker 6: The guy who played Man at Arms, he sold it
- 16:55Speaker 6: to me as like old old soldiers, old tired soldier.
- 16:59Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, and we nailed that.
- 17:03Speaker 6: When when Tila is disgusted by eating ribs, he's like, hey,
- 17:07Speaker 6: when you're hungry, you know.
- 17:10Speaker 5: Eat Yeah.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought that.
- 17:13Speaker 2: I like that one where they said why do they
- 17:15Speaker 2: put the meat? Why did they put this stuff on
- 17:16Speaker 2: those white sticks? And he goes, they're not sticks, their bones.
- 17:19Speaker 6: Yeah, And even with the other he's like it tasted good.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:26Speaker 4: So in that's Dean in particular, I was I thought
- 17:28Speaker 4: I was watching it just last night. I had to think,
- 17:32Speaker 4: So in Gwilder's mind, is the barbecue sauce blood?
- 17:37Speaker 5: I don't know, because you wouldn't You wouldn't know.
- 17:41Speaker 2: You sure drank it.
- 17:42Speaker 5: Yeah, he drank it.
- 17:43Speaker 2: You're like, this is good? Yeah?
- 17:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:46Speaker 4: And for those of you watching, I just put a
- 17:48Speaker 4: poll up on our apparently we have a new feature
- 17:51Speaker 4: now and in stream.
- 17:52Speaker 5: Yard where you can put poles in your show. So
- 17:55Speaker 5: there's a pool right now. Did you like Masters at
- 17:57Speaker 5: the Universe nineteen eighty seven? Hell?
- 17:59Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 17:59Speaker 5: Or it's awful, So you guys can go vote on that.
- 18:02Speaker 5: So so.
- 18:06Speaker 6: Yeah, So Frank Glenzella was good, The guy played Man
- 18:09Speaker 6: at Arms was good. Wildore was kind of Wildore was
- 18:12Speaker 6: kind of silly. I think he was the stand in
- 18:15Speaker 6: for Porko. Yeah, you know, And and I still don't
- 18:20Speaker 6: know what the what the issue was. There's there's two
- 18:23Speaker 6: there's two possibilities with this. Either they recognized that they
- 18:27Speaker 6: didn't have the technology to pull off Orco in nineteen
- 18:31Speaker 6: eighty seven, so they so they left him out.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Or it might have been a rights issue because most
- 18:39Speaker 3: of these characters were owned by Mattel.
- 18:43Speaker 6: Certain characters that were created for the show were owned
- 18:46Speaker 6: by Filmation. So if you look at if you look
- 18:50Speaker 6: at the date stamp on beach he man figures. Most
- 18:56Speaker 6: of them say nineteen eighty one, Mattel, but some characters
- 19:00Speaker 6: like Orco, say nineteen.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Eighty three Filmation.
- 19:04Speaker 5: Oh okay, so.
- 19:05Speaker 6: I think resolved. He's all these years later, this Filmation
- 19:10Speaker 6: doesn't exist anymore. But at the time, I think there
- 19:13Speaker 6: were some some rights issues.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, yeah, No, I think you're right. I think
- 19:17Speaker 2: you're right. I think they had the right to the toys,
- 19:19Speaker 2: and they have the right to the cartoon, and which
- 19:22Speaker 2: is why.
- 19:23Speaker 6: The theme song is not there by the Power of
- 19:27Speaker 6: Gray still is not there, right, because I have the power?
- 19:32Speaker 3: I think I have the power? Is Is it generic
- 19:34Speaker 3: enough phrase?
- 19:36Speaker 2: Yep?
- 19:36Speaker 6: You know he's literally in that scene he's taking the
- 19:39Speaker 6: power back from the castle, So I have the power.
- 19:44Speaker 6: It's not a catchphrase. He's just saying what he's doing.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Right.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Yeah. What else about this movie? You could tell there
- 19:53Speaker 3: was a lot of hey, we ran out of money.
- 19:56Speaker 5: Oh yeah, big fight at the end, the big fight again.
- 20:01Speaker 6: You can tell when the background changes it gets dark,
- 20:04Speaker 6: it's because they shot out on a handicam six weeks later.
- 20:09Speaker 6: Mm hmm, it's like we got another two thousand bucks.
- 20:11Speaker 6: Let's see right, let's be his last battle.
- 20:15Speaker 4: Yeah, and that wasn't Franklinjello when he was fighting. It
- 20:19Speaker 4: was a stunt guy because they couldn't get frank back.
- 20:23Speaker 3: So, oh, let me ask you this. Did you guys
- 20:26Speaker 3: see the post credit scene?
- 20:29Speaker 4: I I did not know that existed in five years ago,
- 20:35Speaker 4: and so I finally watched it for the first time
- 20:38Speaker 4: last night.
- 20:39Speaker 6: So Skeletor Skeletor pops up out of the water and says,
- 20:42Speaker 6: I'll be back like like he's arm sports thinger.
- 20:47Speaker 2: A nice now.
- 20:51Speaker 3: Yeah, the cast was they they began a sequel to this.
- 20:56Speaker 5: They did it. Yes, yes, there.
- 20:58Speaker 6: Was a script. There was a pre production at some point.
- 21:05Speaker 6: They didn't shut production down, but they rewrote the script
- 21:08Speaker 6: so much that it morphed into a completely different movie.
- 21:12Speaker 6: So the movie Cyborg by Jean Claude Bond with John
- 21:16Speaker 6: Claudevondahm is actually.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Masters of the Universe Part two.
- 21:21Speaker 6: Yeah, and in some places it's still listed as Masters
- 21:24Speaker 6: of the Universe Part two colon Cyborg. So even if
- 21:27Speaker 6: you go out, if you search for Masters of the Universe,
- 21:31Speaker 6: Cyborg comes up as a suggestion, probably because in the
- 21:36Speaker 6: text description somewhere, the metadata somewhere, it references.
- 21:41Speaker 2: That that's that's funny.
- 21:45Speaker 5: With that, Dan, what do you think the plot was
- 21:47Speaker 5: supposed to be? Were we getting Vaker I don't know,
- 21:52Speaker 5: or were we getting Roboto or maybe the two of them?
- 21:55Speaker 3: I don't know, because the end of this the end.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Of this movie.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Yeah, well, there's a bunch of plot holes.
- 22:04Speaker 6: So at the end, at the end, Willdor sends sends
- 22:08Speaker 6: Kevin and uh and what's her name and Monica back
- 22:12Speaker 6: to Earth and sends them back to an earlier point
- 22:15Speaker 6: in time so she can prevent.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Her parents from from dying.
- 22:20Speaker 6: Yeah, but if you but if you do that, then
- 22:22Speaker 6: then they're not in the cemetery to find the key
- 22:26Speaker 6: in three weeks when he Man and everyone arrives. So
- 22:30Speaker 6: they wiped out the whole timeline of this movie. That
- 22:34Speaker 6: and if the cosmic key has the ability to travel
- 22:36Speaker 6: through time as well as space, why didn't they go
- 22:41Speaker 6: back in time and prevent from taking.
- 22:44Speaker 3: Custom Gray Skull in the first place?
- 22:46Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah, okay, I don't.
- 22:49Speaker 5: Know, Yeah, I don't know. Well, and then.
- 22:55Speaker 4: This movie suffers from one of the things that I
- 22:59Speaker 4: had this issue one of my own scripts where they
- 23:02Speaker 4: have two of the magic item write skelet has a
- 23:05Speaker 4: copy of the Magic of the Cosmic key, and then
- 23:07Speaker 4: they've got the prototype that they're looking for.
- 23:10Speaker 3: So it's like dueling mcguffins.
- 23:13Speaker 4: Right, it's it's a problem. You really want to only
- 23:16Speaker 4: have one. So then that way, you know, as the audience,
- 23:19Speaker 4: they've got the thing, they have the power right now, right,
- 23:22Speaker 4: they're in the lead. So because there's two, it's confusing,
- 23:28Speaker 4: which totally was in this one. And then the second one,
- 23:31Speaker 4: like hardly ever gets used except the one time when
- 23:34Speaker 4: Skelter shows.
- 23:35Speaker 5: Up on Earth.
- 23:36Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, for for a parade through town where there's
- 23:40Speaker 6: right nobody nobody, nobody notices the Thanksgiving Day parade of
- 23:48Speaker 6: aliens just walking down the streets in Maybury, USA, wherever
- 23:53Speaker 6: this wherever this took place.
- 23:55Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:58Speaker 4: But the one thing that I thought was fun though
- 24:00Speaker 4: when they were on Earth, it was a subtle thing.
- 24:02Speaker 4: I don't know if they did it intentionally, but there's
- 24:05Speaker 4: a scene where all the bad guys are coming out
- 24:09Speaker 4: like that. They got the stormtroopers and all these people
- 24:12Speaker 4: and right behind them, it says H and R Block
- 24:15Speaker 4: tax relief. So it looks like we're coming to collector
- 24:19Speaker 4: tax those people.
- 24:22Speaker 5: So I thought that was kind of bunny.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Yeah, this is a type of movie that I would
- 24:30Speaker 2: have had to watch twice in order to sort of like,
- 24:32Speaker 2: you know, get all the the nuances of everything. But
- 24:36Speaker 2: the odds of me watching it twice are slim. Yeah.
- 24:40Speaker 4: So, so, Scott, what was your what was your biggest
- 24:43Speaker 4: critique of the movie since you watched it with fresh
- 24:46Speaker 4: eyes you know this week?
- 24:50Speaker 2: Wow, Well there's the overall general eighties sci fi action
- 24:58Speaker 2: like you know, you loving. Yeah, yeah, it was. They
- 25:03Speaker 2: had eighties just written all over it. You know.
- 25:07Speaker 7: Uh.
- 25:07Speaker 2: He man had a lot of arm butter all over
- 25:10Speaker 2: his body. Yes, a lot of arm butter. You know,
- 25:16Speaker 2: Dan touched John it before about like it not you
- 25:19Speaker 2: like the cartoon because everybody, you know was looking for
- 25:22Speaker 2: the cartoon stuff, and you know, they're looking at the sword,
- 25:24Speaker 2: they're looking at the costumes. I did. I did, like
- 25:29Speaker 2: you know, some of the actors. The acting was the actors.
- 25:33Speaker 2: A lot of the actors were pretty good. I liked
- 25:35Speaker 2: evil In even though she's got a bad guy named
- 25:39Speaker 2: evil In, right, but she uh I looked her up too.
- 25:43Speaker 2: On IMDb. She was in the Deep Space nine episode
- 25:47Speaker 2: The Muse. She was the one that was stealing Jake
- 25:51Speaker 2: Cisco's aura as he was writing. That was her. And
- 25:56Speaker 2: an interesting fact about her is her eyes. She doesn't
- 25:59Speaker 2: she wasn't wearing contacts in the movie. That's the way
- 26:01Speaker 2: her eyes look naturally. So I thought that was interesting.
- 26:07Speaker 2: And so there's there's others. What's that there's other truck alums.
- 26:15Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, Franklin was.
- 26:17Speaker 6: Minister first Minister such and such on Deep Space nine. Yeah,
- 26:22Speaker 6: tried to launch the uh coup.
- 26:28Speaker 2: That's right.
- 26:30Speaker 6: And then the guy who played Blade in this movie.
- 26:35Speaker 3: Was maj Color. He was that's right, Suska's boyfriend.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I feel like you guys need this warning warning
- 26:48Speaker 5: nerd alert, nerd alert.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Frank also has a Superman connection too, Yes, yeah, very well.
- 26:59Speaker 2: It was Para White and in Superman Returns.
- 27:01Speaker 5: Wasn't who guildor wasn't he Bill Billy Bardy? I feel
- 27:09Speaker 5: like he was.
- 27:12Speaker 6: The guy who played Card that was the bad guy
- 27:15Speaker 6: with the big poofy white hair.
- 27:17Speaker 3: Oh yeah, he played a Ferengi in UH in early.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Episode Okay, okay, back when the Frankie were scary. Yeah,
- 27:31Speaker 2: he may not know this. Also, but the guy that
- 27:33Speaker 2: played the boyfriend, uh, he played Nick Locarno in an
- 27:39Speaker 2: episode of the Next Generation called The First Duty. Yes, yeah,
- 27:46Speaker 2: my boy Uh Robbie Robbie mcdonk Yeah.
- 27:54Speaker 4: So uh I gotta ask, uh, Scott, does this make
- 27:58Speaker 4: you want to see the new he Man move even
- 27:59Speaker 4: more more?
- 28:01Speaker 2: Because I feel like I need it as a palate cleanser.
- 28:04Speaker 2: I feel like I feel like I had to see,
- 28:06Speaker 2: you know, because I grew up on the eighties cartoons.
- 28:09Speaker 2: I've seen every episode of he Man. It's It's in
- 28:11Speaker 2: my top five cartoons of the eighties. When I was
- 28:15Speaker 2: a kid, you know, it was always he Man. I'm
- 28:20Speaker 2: personally waiting for the live action of ThunderCats. That that's
- 28:23Speaker 2: my number one cartoon of all time when I was
- 28:25Speaker 2: a little kid, the ThunderCats. But I feel like I
- 28:29Speaker 2: feel like the showrunners today, the movie producers today, have
- 28:34Speaker 2: have their finger on the pulse of what the people
- 28:38Speaker 2: want as far as like remakes of old crap, and
- 28:42Speaker 2: so that's why they're paying attention to get every little
- 28:45Speaker 2: detail right. They're going to get the sword right, They're
- 28:46Speaker 2: going to get the costume right, They're going to get
- 28:48Speaker 2: the looks right, so and hopefully they got good writers
- 28:52Speaker 2: and we'll just make a good story.
- 28:54Speaker 5: Yeah, hopefully the credit.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Cards for Simlar Century. Thank you for listening. International Airport.
- 29:02Speaker 5: Oh sorry guy, Yeah, yeah, it's really fine.
- 29:09Speaker 2: What's what? What secret star base is he at?
- 29:11Speaker 5: I don't know. I don't know.
- 29:13Speaker 4: I did look up though, that Cyborg is on Amazon
- 29:18Speaker 4: Prime to watch, so if you got Amazon Prime, you
- 29:20Speaker 4: can you can watch it.
- 29:21Speaker 3: So we didn't get a good.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm good. I'm good.
- 29:31Speaker 5: Okay, all right, I'm just saying it's there.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Okay. I appreciate you, Daniel, I really do. I appreciate you.
- 29:38Speaker 5: I just got to look it up.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Uh.
- 29:40Speaker 4: So this movie was made in nineteen eighty seven. It
- 29:43Speaker 4: had a budget of twenty two million and a box
- 29:46Speaker 4: office of seventeen.
- 29:47Speaker 5: Point three million, so it was a pretty big flop.
- 29:51Speaker 6: Yes, especially for especially for box then Wye made more
- 29:56Speaker 6: money than Start Fish.
- 29:59Speaker 5: Right, that's right.
- 30:04Speaker 3: Uh.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Quiet guy says never watched any version of He Man,
- 30:06Speaker 2: probably never will. Still here to listen to you guys
- 30:08Speaker 2: talk about it. It's a Sunday habit nice.
- 30:10Speaker 3: Yeah, go see it June sixth, That's.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Right, I cause I well, yeah, go see it June six,
- 30:19Speaker 2: because I imagine that you don't have to. You know,
- 30:22Speaker 2: I don't think my kids know anything about he Man,
- 30:25Speaker 2: even though there had been iterations of he Man since then,
- 30:28Speaker 2: you know, yeah, anime style and different animation styles and stuff,
- 30:32Speaker 2: but I don't think they ever got into it. But
- 30:35Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be a fun movie, you know.
- 30:39Speaker 4: Speaking of becoming like he Man, they recently launched become
- 30:45Speaker 4: attorney in, which is this is a promo for the
- 30:48Speaker 4: new movie. And so you you go to their website
- 30:52Speaker 4: become attorney in dot com. You upload a photo of
- 30:56Speaker 4: yourself or take a photo through your webcam, and you
- 30:59Speaker 4: can be a Maternian. So I did that this morning,
- 31:02Speaker 4: and so there's me a yeah, so it's a pretty
- 31:09Speaker 4: fun bit.
- 31:09Speaker 5: They have you answer you questions.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Yeah, for those of you staring into your radios, it's
- 31:16Speaker 2: it's Daniel wearing some bronze colored armor and an axe
- 31:20Speaker 2: running towards danger.
- 31:23Speaker 5: That's right, that's right.
- 31:25Speaker 2: Fun time looks he looks very he looks very heroic.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Not that you don't always look heroic. You always look
- 31:32Speaker 2: heroic on the podcast. He's my hero too, that's right.
- 31:37Speaker 4: But now I have an axe so that's cool.
- 31:41Speaker 3: So anything is better.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Looks like this, this photo makes it looks like you
- 31:47Speaker 2: never skip leg.
- 31:48Speaker 5: Day, No, never, never.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:50Speaker 4: And what's really funny is like one of the questions
- 31:53Speaker 4: on there was like, if you had a weapon, would
- 31:55Speaker 4: it be a sword?
- 31:56Speaker 5: An axe?
- 31:56Speaker 4: Like it had all these like options very clearly. Okay,
- 32:00Speaker 4: what do you want is to put in your hand?
- 32:02Speaker 2: I love that you're still you're like in this battle,
- 32:04Speaker 2: like you're running into battle. You still have your your
- 32:07Speaker 2: prescription classes on.
- 32:08Speaker 5: That's right, Well you have to see the danger.
- 32:11Speaker 2: That's true.
- 32:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I just thought that was Yeah.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Wait, what what was your name in that? Did they
- 32:18Speaker 2: give you an attorney a name?
- 32:20Speaker 5: Let me give you a name?
- 32:20Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, let the audience know what that was.
- 32:24Speaker 2: It was Duke Parrito, Duke Prido, protector of Central.
- 32:36Speaker 4: All right, I can't protect all of but Central I
- 32:41Speaker 4: got you.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Yes, all of it?
- 32:44Speaker 3: Too much, it's just too much.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Well maybe that's why Dan and I have to, uh,
- 32:49Speaker 2: you know, get on this bandwagon. And he's got the east,
- 32:53Speaker 2: I got the west. Yeah, we'll take care of that's
- 32:57Speaker 2: south central alternio, right, we stay away from that area.
- 33:04Speaker 5: That's right, we've given up.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Oh boy, so yeah, I'll put the.
- 33:11Speaker 5: Link in the in the Facebook group. People can go
- 33:13Speaker 5: and become a journey and if they want to.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Another Star Trek connection is the Skeletor mask. Skeletor mask
- 33:22Speaker 2: was used in WARF's Holideck program as one of the
- 33:27Speaker 2: the face of one of the monsters he fought.
- 33:30Speaker 5: Oh that's right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:36Speaker 2: I don't know. It might have been the one where
- 33:37Speaker 2: he shared it with Riker, you know, or maybe Klar,
- 33:41Speaker 2: but yeah, it was one of the monsters had that mask.
- 33:43Speaker 6: So oh that's interesting, so fun fun fact, so disappoint
- 33:48Speaker 6: in the movie where Skeletor walks into the throne room
- 33:52Speaker 6: and his staff is handed to him by a character
- 33:58Speaker 6: who's very short in stature, did you did you catch that.
- 34:02Speaker 5: Big characters?
- 34:04Speaker 6: Yes, the character is called pig Boy. And what's interest
- 34:07Speaker 6: thing about pig Boy. Pig Boy is an actual boy
- 34:11Speaker 6: who won a contest to have a part in the uh.
- 34:16Speaker 5: In the movie.
- 34:17Speaker 6: Yeah, I was a semi finalist. I won a he
- 34:22Speaker 6: Man action figure as part of the Oh no, I
- 34:26Speaker 6: did not win the trip to la and you were part.
- 34:28Speaker 2: Of the same contest. That's awesome, So.
- 34:34Speaker 3: But what's what's funny? Is okay.
- 34:36Speaker 6: So he Man in the Masters of the Universe was
- 34:39Speaker 6: huge in nineteen eighty three, nineteen eighty four, nineteen eighty five.
- 34:44Speaker 6: This movie was filmed in eighty six and came out
- 34:46Speaker 6: in eighty seven. In eighty six, the bottom fell out, Yes,
- 34:52Speaker 6: And I remember, like when this movie came out, I
- 34:55Speaker 6: was like, oh, he Man huh yeah, all.
- 34:58Speaker 3: Right, I guess I guess we'll go see that. That's
- 35:00Speaker 3: still that's still kind of cool.
- 35:02Speaker 6: And I remember when my when my Free Action figure
- 35:05Speaker 6: showed up, I had to go find my my he
- 35:08Speaker 6: Man twoice like wow.
- 35:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:11Speaker 6: They weren't in regular anymore. They were out g I,
- 35:15Speaker 6: Joe and Transformers were in. So this movie really did
- 35:19Speaker 6: arrive a couple of years too late.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Yeah, come out eighteen months earlier, Yes.
- 35:26Speaker 6: If it come out eighteen months two years earlier, if
- 35:29Speaker 6: they had settled their rights issues with Filmation.
- 35:34Speaker 2: You know.
- 35:34Speaker 3: Another thing was Prince Adam. I think that was a
- 35:36Speaker 3: Filmation thing.
- 35:38Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, oh yeah, because they didn't they didn't
- 35:41Speaker 2: mention his name.
- 35:42Speaker 6: Yeah, there's no Prince Adam in this movie. There's no
- 35:44Speaker 6: King Randor, there's no Queen Marlena. And if you think
- 35:47Speaker 6: about it. There's only I think seven motes Masters of
- 35:52Speaker 6: the Universe characters in here.
- 35:54Speaker 3: You got he.
- 35:55Speaker 6: Man, Man at Arms, yep, Ta Skeleton and divil In,
- 36:02Speaker 6: beast Man and the Sorceress.
- 36:04Speaker 3: That's it. Everybody else in this was created for this movie.
- 36:08Speaker 6: And then at the last minute they were like, you
- 36:10Speaker 6: know what, give us principal Strickland too.
- 36:13Speaker 3: That's right, give us that slacker.
- 36:19Speaker 2: Because he played the same character. Absolutely, he played the
- 36:24Speaker 2: sad character. Yep.
- 36:28Speaker 4: So I just pulled up the list of the top
- 36:30Speaker 4: movies of nineteen eighty seven just to kind of see
- 36:33Speaker 4: what what he Man was up against in the box.
- 36:35Speaker 2: Oh boy, what stallone movie was it?
- 36:38Speaker 4: Let me give you an idea of what else was
- 36:40Speaker 4: going on when this dud hit the theaters.
- 36:43Speaker 2: Uh.
- 36:44Speaker 5: Number ten was The Witches of east Wick?
- 36:47Speaker 2: Ever heard of it?
- 36:48Speaker 5: Yeah? Lethal Weapon the first one?
- 36:51Speaker 2: Oh there you go.
- 36:53Speaker 5: Uh steak Out, I don't even I don't know.
- 36:55Speaker 2: I remember steak Out.
- 36:57Speaker 5: The Secret of My Success I remember that one too. Yeah, Untouchable,
- 37:04Speaker 5: number five, moon Struck, yep, that's a share Good morning Vietnam, Oh,
- 37:12Speaker 5: Rob Williams. Yeah. Number three, Beverly Hilcops too.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yep.
- 37:18Speaker 5: Number two Fatal Attraction.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Oh and then the.
- 37:22Speaker 4: Number one movie of nineteen eighty seven, Three Men and
- 37:25Speaker 4: a Baby.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Oh well yeah, heck yeah.
- 37:28Speaker 5: Yeah, So there you go. That's what he Man was
- 37:32Speaker 5: up against.
- 37:33Speaker 3: Directed by Leonard dem Wit.
- 37:35Speaker 2: That was it, right, that's right?
- 37:37Speaker 5: Oh yeah it was wow? Sure, yeah, yeah, no it was.
- 37:41Speaker 5: I just clicked on it.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Yeah, yep, what the hell man?
- 37:47Speaker 4: Yeah, warning warning, NERD alert, nerd alert.
- 37:54Speaker 2: Yeah, Sam Malone, magnum p I and the dude from
- 37:57Speaker 2: Short Circuit.
- 37:59Speaker 4: Made one hundred sixty seven. Yeah, yeah, no wonder they
- 38:04Speaker 4: made three Men in a Lady So yeah, yeah, all.
- 38:10Speaker 3: Right, guys, I'm gonna hop out.
- 38:12Speaker 6: Okay, I need to switch vehicles, and I may or
- 38:17Speaker 6: may not be back on for a little bit.
- 38:19Speaker 2: Okay, all right, okay, don't listen to the podcast because
- 38:22Speaker 2: we're talk a lot of crap about you.
- 38:24Speaker 3: Oh that's fine.
- 38:26Speaker 5: All right, man, h.
- 38:30Speaker 4: Okay, Well, should we get into what I guess I
- 38:37Speaker 4: just want to talk about the comic con?
- 38:39Speaker 2: Right yeah? Yeah? So, uh this weekend was the was
- 38:46Speaker 2: the twenty twenty six Kalamazoo Comic Con. It's put on
- 38:49Speaker 2: by the the good folks at the Grand Rapids Comic Con.
- 38:54Speaker 2: I actually met the owner of the Grand Rapids Comic
- 38:57Speaker 2: Con on Friday, Mark High great guy. He did a
- 39:01Speaker 2: panel on Friday night about it was basically all the
- 39:06Speaker 2: nightmarish scenarios for comic cons and it was basically it
- 39:11Speaker 2: was basically an hour log bitch fest for him. And
- 39:14Speaker 2: the owner of the Capital City Comic Con was there
- 39:17Speaker 2: as well, and uh, just some just interesting stories about
- 39:23Speaker 2: kids and flamethrowers and crazy people that caused trouble and
- 39:28Speaker 2: you know, ninety nine point of the people who uh
- 39:33Speaker 2: yeah there there's me and my wife at the Kamzu
- 39:35Speaker 2: Expo Center and uh yeah, uh it was uh, it
- 39:40Speaker 2: was really interesting to hear some of the stories from
- 39:45Speaker 2: from Mark Hodges and uh got to the next day.
- 39:48Speaker 2: We came back and got to see uh uh the
- 39:52Speaker 2: star Trek uh Starfleet International booth, got to see uh
- 39:59Speaker 2: Dan friend of the show at the Ghostbusters booth at
- 40:03Speaker 2: the uh the Kalamazoo. I'm actually gonna be joining. I'm
- 40:06Speaker 2: part of the US s Pataski of Starfleet International, which
- 40:09Speaker 2: is the Grand Rapids. But they just started a new
- 40:12Speaker 2: ship last year last year or the year before, uh,
- 40:16Speaker 2: the USS Cutty Sark and that's based out of Portage, Michigan,
- 40:19Speaker 2: which is a neighboring town of mine. So yeah, so
- 40:24Speaker 2: the us S Cutty Sark is our local from Region thirteen,
- 40:27Speaker 2: which is part of Canada and Michigan. So they do
- 40:32Speaker 2: a lot of a lot of charity work. They're involved
- 40:35Speaker 2: in adopted highway kind of stuff. You know. So a
- 40:39Speaker 2: lot of these goat like the Ghostbusters and the Starfleet
- 40:42Speaker 2: and even like all the star Wars, all these groups
- 40:45Speaker 2: they all do a bunch of Yeah. There it is
- 40:48Speaker 2: adopt a highway. Uh, the US is Cutty Sark, Cutty Sark.
- 40:53Speaker 2: You know, they do a lot of good for the community.
- 40:55Speaker 2: And so if you if you're interested in joining one
- 40:58Speaker 2: of these groups, they're they're all international. Just just google
- 41:03Speaker 2: Starfleet International. It's basically a fan club. The dues are
- 41:10Speaker 2: like ten dollars a year, So I just I go
- 41:13Speaker 2: on once a year, pay my ten bucks and you know.
- 41:16Speaker 2: They sometimes they have in person get togethers, sometimes they
- 41:20Speaker 2: have virtual get togethers, depending on what chapter you're in. Yeah.
- 41:25Speaker 2: So yeah, and then the Ghostbusters were there too, Do
- 41:29Speaker 2: you have that I do?
- 41:30Speaker 5: Let you want me to play the video?
- 41:32Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, So at the at the booth at the
- 41:33Speaker 2: Ghostbusters booth. I was talking to my friend Dan and
- 41:38Speaker 2: we had another guy demonstrate the containment unit.
- 41:41Speaker 5: So okay, yeah, let me play that all right.
- 41:45Speaker 10: So what we have here is a Class five possessor.
- 41:48Speaker 10: It was over by the food area, was eating up
- 41:50Speaker 10: all the food there. We can't have that because they
- 41:52Speaker 10: charge us for all food slim rates. So when we
- 41:54Speaker 10: get a ghost, we bring the ghost back here to
- 41:56Speaker 10: our headquarters. We open up the containment unit, we insert
- 42:00Speaker 10: the trap. The light turns red. That indicates it's ready
- 42:04Speaker 10: to be received into the system. So what you do
- 42:06Speaker 10: is you lock the door, you set the entry grid,
- 42:09Speaker 10: neutronize the field, and when the light is green, the
- 42:13Speaker 10: trap is clean stored here in our custom made storage facility.
- 42:17Speaker 10: We would like to think it would hold them in definitely,
- 42:18Speaker 10: but sometimes there are certain three letter agencies that come
- 42:21Speaker 10: and shut us down. Causes explosions, we lose our license,
- 42:25Speaker 10: we get sued, We come back for a sequel in
- 42:27Speaker 10: five years.
- 42:28Speaker 3: Hey, thanks a lot, appreciated.
- 42:30Speaker 5: Yep, you get your there you go.
- 42:34Speaker 2: Yeah. So it's uh they go around to all the
- 42:37Speaker 2: cons I've seen them at Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo. Uh uh
- 42:41Speaker 2: land scene. It's it looks legit that that containment unit.
- 42:46Speaker 2: I mean, they spend a lot of time and money
- 42:48Speaker 2: and it's it's a really cool attraction at the at
- 42:51Speaker 2: the comic cons, they got a lot of cool people.
- 42:53Speaker 2: They the Kelsy Ghostbusters and and sort of the Internet
- 42:56Speaker 2: that their national uh fan base and fan club what ever.
- 43:00Speaker 2: They do a lot of charity work. They go to
- 43:02Speaker 2: like we bought some merch from them and all the
- 43:06Speaker 2: money goes to like the local burn camps. We have
- 43:09Speaker 2: a local burn camp here called Pretty Lake burn Camp
- 43:12Speaker 2: and they do a lot of charity work with them.
- 43:14Speaker 2: So a lot of these a lot of these places,
- 43:16Speaker 2: these these fan clubs that you see at comic cons,
- 43:20Speaker 2: they're involved in a lot of charities, you know, I've
- 43:23Speaker 2: seen them. I've seen them at like Talent's out where
- 43:27Speaker 2: we're us older veterans are flown out to their memorials
- 43:32Speaker 2: in DC and then flown back free of charge for them.
- 43:35Speaker 2: When they return, they're greeted by the public and and
- 43:40Speaker 2: and I've been there as a Patriot Guard Rider member.
- 43:43Speaker 2: And then the Ghostbusters show up and and and different
- 43:46Speaker 2: you know, like these different organizations groups show up and
- 43:49Speaker 2: the kids love them and they they really do they're
- 43:51Speaker 2: doing a lot of good work. So yeah, really looking
- 43:55Speaker 2: forward to you know, like I said, Uh, Mark Hodge's
- 43:59Speaker 2: good guy runs the Grand Rapids Comic Con. They're they're
- 44:02Speaker 2: gonna be doing another show in Grand Rapids at the
- 44:05Speaker 2: Devas Place in November. I'm gonna be there for the
- 44:09Speaker 2: whole weekend, covering the whole thing. It's a bit bigger
- 44:12Speaker 2: of a con. The Devas Place is a bit bigger
- 44:14Speaker 2: venue than the kalam Zoo one. But the Calms they
- 44:18Speaker 2: put on a great show at at both places. But yeah,
- 44:22Speaker 2: I plan on being at the at the Grand Rapids one.
- 44:24Speaker 2: And I'd really like to do a meet up. I
- 44:26Speaker 2: know there's a lot more people in the Grand Rapids
- 44:28Speaker 2: area maybe that listen to the show. I'd like to
- 44:30Speaker 2: do a meet up maybe, uh maybe Saturday night and uh,
- 44:35Speaker 2: you know, just get together and and and uh maybe
- 44:38Speaker 2: go support the uh the Starfleet International Booth and check out.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Uh there's the the the three ships that that I'm
- 44:46Speaker 2: I'm friends with is the USS Cutty Sark uh, the
- 44:49Speaker 2: Tecumsa uh and the one in Grand Rapids whose name
- 44:52Speaker 2: is Escaping mirroright now. But so yeah, good people, you know,
- 44:58Speaker 2: and they come from all walks of life too, you know, doctors, lawyers.
- 45:02Speaker 2: My buddy Verne, I think he's an electrician. Uh. These
- 45:06Speaker 2: guys are just you know, big fans of the of
- 45:09Speaker 2: the show, of their of their particular genre, whether it's
- 45:12Speaker 2: Ghostbusters or Star Wars or Star Trek, and uh, they
- 45:15Speaker 2: really put a lot into it. So come out and
- 45:18Speaker 2: you know, check out these comic cons. They're they're they're
- 45:20Speaker 2: worth it. There there's a lot of a lot of stuff,
- 45:22Speaker 2: a lot of stuff for everybody.
- 45:23Speaker 5: So yeah, it sounds like a great time.
- 45:27Speaker 2: Go to Grand Rapidscomic Con dot com for more information
- 45:30Speaker 2: about the upcoming events.
- 45:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:32Speaker 5: Absolutely. When when you're with the ship, do you do
- 45:38Speaker 5: you have a ranking?
- 45:40Speaker 2: So yeah, I'm a little new to this, so I
- 45:44Speaker 2: don't know exactly how it works, but the more you're
- 45:46Speaker 2: involved in you know, you start out as just either
- 45:50Speaker 2: a cadetra and ensign, and the more you're involved, you
- 45:53Speaker 2: can get promoted. And the person that's in charge of
- 45:56Speaker 2: the ship is the captain of the ship, and the
- 45:58Speaker 2: person that's in charge of the region I believe is
- 45:59Speaker 2: a now and Roll. So yeah, and then you sort
- 46:04Speaker 2: of you're sort of in charge of like all the
- 46:05Speaker 2: meetings and and things like that. So but yeah, the
- 46:08Speaker 2: more involved you are, the higher you can get in rank.
- 46:11Speaker 2: You know, I met the captain and the commander of
- 46:14Speaker 2: the Cutty Sark yesterday. So great people. Yeah, so yeah,
- 46:21Speaker 2: check out. Uh I believe it's s f I dot
- 46:25Speaker 2: com or or Starfleet International. Google Starfleet International if you
- 46:28Speaker 2: want to get involved. So it's a really great organization.
- 46:32Speaker 5: So okay, And so I just checked.
- 46:35Speaker 4: We don't have any emails and and nobody xed up
- 46:37Speaker 4: in the chat, so we don't. There's no listener feedback.
- 46:39Speaker 2: So all right, Well I've got one more thing I'd
- 46:42Speaker 2: like to talk about. Yeah, I went to I So
- 46:46Speaker 2: every day I drive by this new restaurant in town.
- 46:49Speaker 2: Oh yes, yes, and it's called It's a nacho place.
- 46:54Speaker 2: All right, h I love Nacho's. Nachas are great. But
- 46:57Speaker 2: I don't you know, I just drive by it and
- 46:59Speaker 2: it's called Now when I when I saw trekkers, I'm
- 47:03Speaker 2: thinking it's a nacho place. That I mean trekkers must
- 47:08Speaker 2: mean like they like to trek across the wilderness or something.
- 47:11Speaker 2: This can't costly. It's not a star trek thing, so whatever.
- 47:15Speaker 2: I didn't give it a whole lot of thought. I thought,
- 47:17Speaker 2: I'm gonna, you know, check it out someday. But I'm
- 47:19Speaker 2: at the comic con yesterday and I'm talking to Dan
- 47:22Speaker 2: from Ghostbusters and he's like, have you been to Trekkers?
- 47:25Speaker 2: And I'm like, you know Trekkers that little place in Matawan.
- 47:28Speaker 2: He's like, oh, yeah, it's the guy is a huge
- 47:30Speaker 2: Star Trek fan. I'm like, you're kiddy me. So I'm like,
- 47:35Speaker 2: I looked at my wife, I'm like, that's where we're
- 47:37Speaker 2: going to lunch today. So we immediately went there. Met
- 47:40Speaker 2: the owner, Chuck Black, a huge Star Trek fan. They've
- 47:44Speaker 2: got Star Trek memorabilia, They've comic book memorabilia.
- 47:51Speaker 5: I'm trying to find your photos, but it's very deep in.
- 47:53Speaker 2: The oh okay, okay, yeah, yeah, they've got uh an.
- 48:00Speaker 2: They happen to have some of the best nachos I've
- 48:03Speaker 2: ever had. And we're not talking about like ballpark nachos.
- 48:06Speaker 2: We're not talking about like, you know, like tortilla chips
- 48:08Speaker 2: with you know, some melted cheese on it. We're talking
- 48:12Speaker 2: you know, real tortilla chips. We're talking uh, you know,
- 48:15Speaker 2: real caseo, real cheese, real beef, and chicken and all
- 48:18Speaker 2: that kind of stuff. They've got themed they've got theme stuff.
- 48:22Speaker 2: I had the my wife and I had the Captain America,
- 48:25Speaker 2: which is sort of a milder version of nachos. It's
- 48:28Speaker 2: all like white sauce, and they had blue chips and
- 48:31Speaker 2: and red you know, like pico kind of stuff. And
- 48:34Speaker 2: my son had the uh the Flame on, which is
- 48:37Speaker 2: all hot stuff, you know, jallapenos and stuff, and it
- 48:41Speaker 2: was all absolutely delicious, great portions. Uh, these guys are great,
- 48:45Speaker 2: you know. I met him and his wife and their son.
- 48:47Speaker 2: Their son's actually uh in the military, so it was
- 48:52Speaker 2: uh yeah, it was really Ah, it was really a
- 48:55Speaker 2: great time. I enjoyed I enjoyed it. He sells stuff
- 49:00Speaker 2: on what Not, so if you're familiar with what Not,
- 49:03Speaker 2: check him out. So his name is Chuck Black. You
- 49:08Speaker 2: can his uh the the name of the restaurant is
- 49:11Speaker 2: Trekkers uh Nacho average tortilla Chip. So yeah, it's in Mattawan, Michigan.
- 49:18Speaker 2: So if anybody is local in the area, uh, definitely
- 49:22Speaker 2: go check him out. So I told him about the podcast,
- 49:25Speaker 2: and he's gonna start listening. I gave out some stickers,
- 49:29Speaker 2: gave some of the Trekkers, gave some of the Starfleet
- 49:30Speaker 2: International Booth, gave out a couple of just you know,
- 49:34Speaker 2: Star trek fans that were just walking around the con.
- 49:36Speaker 2: So yeah, doing a little bit of networking getting some
- 49:39Speaker 2: more fans.
- 49:40Speaker 3: Nice.
- 49:41Speaker 4: It was funny to me when you when you were
- 49:43Speaker 4: telling us about the nacho plays Trekkers this week, because
- 49:49Speaker 4: I had just found out about Australian nachos.
- 49:54Speaker 2: The Australian nachos.
- 49:55Speaker 4: Yes, apparently, this is how they do it down Under.
- 49:58Speaker 4: They use instead of tortilla chips, they used baked beans
- 50:05Speaker 4: instead of like refried beans, and then they just grade
- 50:09Speaker 4: cheese on it and bake it all together. And that's
- 50:11Speaker 4: Australian nachos.
- 50:14Speaker 11: I try it, I like, I like, yeah, so that
- 50:23Speaker 11: is Australia nachos.
- 50:24Speaker 2: So that's great, that's great. I don't think I have
- 50:29Speaker 2: any emails either.
- 50:31Speaker 5: So yeah, that's all right. We'll just cut it.
- 50:33Speaker 4: We'll cut it short, so we'll be back next week.
- 50:36Speaker 4: We got something kind of special plan for you. Actually,
- 50:39Speaker 4: I gotta talk to you after the credits, so okay,
- 50:42Speaker 4: all right, but yeah, so we'll be back next week.
- 50:45Speaker 4: You'll see it'll be something special. But uh, We'll catch
- 50:49Speaker 4: you guys next week. Doctor Lyz.
