- 0:00Speaker 1: And football and four powered by the Inside of the Birds podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 1: It's brought to you by the Fanatic Sports book at
- 0:05Speaker 1: Ocean Cassida Resort in Atlantic City. We were over there
- 0:08Speaker 1: on Saturday at the Ocean's eighteen live or grand opening.
- 0:14Speaker 1: I should say they had Shooting McGavin over there from
- 0:17Speaker 1: the Billy Madison Happy Gilmour series. That was pretty funny.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Saw the Philly Fanatic Da had the Mummers string band.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Place was unbelievable. It was packed over there. We had
- 0:28Speaker 1: a good old time, but everybody was talking about what's
- 0:32Speaker 1: next for the Birds and that's why we have Jeff
- 0:35Speaker 1: Boucher from the Inside the Birds podcast right now for
- 0:38Speaker 1: today's football at four on the Sports Bast Live on
- 0:42Speaker 1: ninety seven three ESPN. Welcome sir, How you doing.
- 0:45Speaker 2: I'm good, Mike, how are you doing?
- 0:47Speaker 1: Great man, It's good to see you on this Monday.
- 0:49Speaker 1: All ready to go for the off season as we've
- 0:52Speaker 1: kind of shifted now to off season mode and we
- 0:55Speaker 1: got more vacancies and we do have some vacancies being
- 0:59Speaker 1: filled right now. The Bills fired Sean McDermott earlier, so
- 1:03Speaker 1: how do you think that could call some domino effects
- 1:06Speaker 1: potentially for the Philadelphia situation here.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Yeah, certainly if the Eagles have their eye on Brian Dabele,
- 1:12Speaker 3: which they do that opening up in Buffalo, where Dable
- 1:17Speaker 3: really not only succeeded with josh Allen, but as we understand,
- 1:21Speaker 3: had a good relationship.
- 1:22Speaker 2: He challenged josh Allen, Joshua challenged back and it was great.
- 1:25Speaker 3: And obviously josh Allen really became what he is today
- 1:29Speaker 3: in large part because of Brian dables influence and coaching.
- 1:33Speaker 3: So if that's just another suitor for Dabel, who, especially
- 1:37Speaker 3: as a head coach, then that's a potential team that
- 1:41Speaker 3: could take away from the Eagles. And then just in general,
- 1:43Speaker 3: the fact that they have a head coach and now
- 1:46Speaker 3: most likely an offensive coordinator, that is another team that
- 1:49Speaker 3: you're competing with for they if they if they were
- 1:52Speaker 3: to hire two offensive people for that, So that position, let's.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Look at some of the things out there. By the way,
- 1:57Speaker 1: the Lions have filled their offensive coordinator position, and it's
- 2:00Speaker 1: a name that we did not hear surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 2:04Speaker 1: They went with I don't want to say an unknown
- 2:07Speaker 1: but a guy who has been a coordinator in Arizona.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Drew Petsing. I think a lot of people thought that
- 2:12Speaker 1: the Lions offensive coordinator opening would have been a high
- 2:16Speaker 1: profile job. Are you surprised by that? And if you're
- 2:19Speaker 1: the Eagles, you kind of like, okay, that, you know,
- 2:22Speaker 1: keeps a guy on the map that we thought could
- 2:24Speaker 1: have we were interested in that could have gone there.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean a little bit surprised.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I don't know, you know, I guess I would have
- 2:32Speaker 3: thought Dan Campbell would look for something.
- 2:35Speaker 2: More in the mold of what he hadn't Ben Johnson.
- 2:37Speaker 3: And I'm not saying that Drew Petsing isn't a smart
- 2:40Speaker 3: or a creative offensive coordinator, but I think it's a different.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Kind of style.
- 2:45Speaker 3: He's more of a you know, I think he coached
- 2:47Speaker 3: under Kevin Stefanski and he's more like that kind of
- 2:49Speaker 3: a offensive coordinator with his concepts. But I thought that
- 2:54Speaker 3: Petsing actually did a pretty decent job the first two
- 2:56Speaker 3: years in Arizona. I mean, you're always a little bit
- 2:59Speaker 3: handcuffed with your quarterback who's either hurt coming back for
- 3:02Speaker 3: an injury, or not so great to begin with. And
- 3:04Speaker 3: then he obviously had per set last year, which is
- 3:08Speaker 3: a difficulty they had offensive line.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Issues the whole way out.
- 3:12Speaker 3: But the one thing that doesn't surprise me is Dan
- 3:13Speaker 3: Campbell is a pretty convicted guy who kind of knows
- 3:16Speaker 3: what he wants, and so it didn't surprise me that
- 3:19Speaker 3: he didn't just, you know, interview all the same guys
- 3:21Speaker 3: everybody else is interviewing and set and try to outrace
- 3:24Speaker 3: everybody for one of them.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Let's look at uh, we're talking with Jeff Mosher football
- 3:28Speaker 1: for from the Inside the Birds podcast. Over the weekend,
- 3:31Speaker 1: we did get a flurry of names anews, So let's
- 3:33Speaker 1: look at some of the names and kind of get
- 3:35Speaker 1: your initial reaction on the fit and you know how
- 3:39Speaker 1: it might go over here.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Let's Mike real quick.
- 3:42Speaker 3: I don't want to interrupt you, but I think there's
- 3:44Speaker 3: a really important conversation.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I wrote about this today for Philly Voice.
- 3:47Speaker 3: There's an important conversation to be had about this position
- 3:50Speaker 3: before you can even assign a name or a fit, right,
- 3:54Speaker 3: and the important conversation is who are the Eagles now? Offensively,
- 3:58Speaker 3: who are they and what do they want to be?
- 4:02Speaker 2: Because we're we could go through a bunch of names.
- 4:04Speaker 3: They're casting a wide net, as they clearly do whenever
- 4:08Speaker 3: they need any kind of coach, and I always think
- 4:10Speaker 3: that's a good thing. You want intel, you want you know,
- 4:13Speaker 3: you could be coaching against these guys. You want to
- 4:15Speaker 3: just get as much information they go to the college ranks, right,
- 4:18Speaker 3: So that's a good thing. But while that's great for
- 4:21Speaker 3: head coach because usually you're hitting the reset button when
- 4:24Speaker 3: you're looking for a head coach. So you're welcome to
- 4:26Speaker 3: any types of ideas or philosophies this job.
- 4:30Speaker 2: I'm not sure that I see the Eagles should.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Be welcoming to any kind of philosophies because Hallie Roseman
- 4:37Speaker 3: said they're still in win now mode and they have
- 4:40Speaker 3: built the team over the last four years five years
- 4:42Speaker 3: that has been very successful doing it a certain way.
- 4:46Speaker 3: And so some of these coordinators, you know, like maybe
- 4:49Speaker 3: guys from the mcveay or Shanahan Tree are guys who
- 4:53Speaker 3: do things radically different than the Eagles do. And then
- 4:57Speaker 3: some would probably act better to what the Eagles have done.
- 5:02Speaker 3: But the Eagles have to decide is that what they
- 5:04Speaker 3: want do they want to keep the core philosophies that
- 5:08Speaker 3: they've had the last few years and just find someone
- 5:10Speaker 3: to improve it. Like I guess you could say they
- 5:13Speaker 3: did that with Kellen Moore. Except if we're being very honest,
- 5:16Speaker 3: their passing game was regressing even in twenty twenty four.
- 5:20Speaker 3: You can't do the whole but they won the Super
- 5:22Speaker 3: Bowl and scored all these points in the championship game
- 5:24Speaker 3: in the Super Bowl because they had a ridiculous plus
- 5:27Speaker 3: twelve turnover ratio in the postseason.
- 5:30Speaker 2: That's not going to happen every time.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Or there's the downside to do it the other way,
- 5:35Speaker 3: which is taking a sledgehammer to it, trying to bring
- 5:38Speaker 3: in a guy who runs concepts that you've never really
- 5:41Speaker 3: run before and hoping that this team is going to
- 5:43Speaker 3: abjab to it.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Well, it's funny, he goes. I wou was saying about
- 5:46Speaker 1: this this morning, and it's like, look, I feel like
- 5:47Speaker 1: the Eagles fans are so fixated on the big name.
- 5:50Speaker 1: They want a guy they've heard of, or a guy
- 5:52Speaker 1: that they've known, or a guy who was credentials. And
- 5:54Speaker 1: then I'm thinking to myself, who knew Liam Kohane And
- 5:57Speaker 1: he gets a head coaching job and next thing you know,
- 5:59Speaker 1: Jacksonville thirteen wins who knew Dave Canalis And I know
- 6:03Speaker 1: they were under five hundred, but he took them to
- 6:05Speaker 1: the playoffs. Who know Mike McDaniel, who's out there in Seattle. Now,
- 6:09Speaker 1: I know he's a defensive guy. But there's a lot
- 6:11Speaker 1: of coaches that were kind of unknown, and you wonder
- 6:15Speaker 1: if the league is kind of flipping here and you're
- 6:19Speaker 1: seeing the change of these younger, lesser known names kind
- 6:23Speaker 1: of getting their chances, and the guys who have been
- 6:25Speaker 1: the recycled guys kind of like, you know what, we're
- 6:29Speaker 1: ready to move on from the older, recycled group. It's
- 6:32Speaker 1: give the new guy the chance. And I don't know
- 6:35Speaker 1: how well that's going to go over here.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Well, I don't even know before how well that is
- 6:40Speaker 3: from an optic standpoint. I don't know that the Eagles
- 6:42Speaker 3: are in position to do that anymore, because, as we
- 6:45Speaker 3: talked about last week, they can't take a chance.
- 6:48Speaker 2: On a Canalis or a McDaniel.
- 6:50Speaker 3: They can't take a chance on a guy who's not
- 6:53Speaker 3: called plays before, all right, because they just did that
- 6:57Speaker 3: and their offensive, head minded head coach is enable to
- 7:02Speaker 3: throw that guy or nurture that guy, give him a
- 7:04Speaker 3: life preserver.
- 7:05Speaker 2: That they absolutely need a play caller, a proven play caller.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Now to your point, there are some out there who
- 7:11Speaker 3: are come from sexier offenses and will excite people, and
- 7:14Speaker 3: there are some who do not and will not excite people,
- 7:17Speaker 3: and that, from an optic standpoint, will probably be a
- 7:20Speaker 3: debate for a lot of the fans.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Right. So, you know, if you ended up going with,
- 7:24Speaker 1: let's go down some of these names real fast. Josh Grizzard,
- 7:29Speaker 1: the people might say, wait what Josh Grizzard Former Buccaneers
- 7:33Speaker 1: offensive coordinator. Jim Bob Cooter. He's a name that people
- 7:37Speaker 1: may be familiar with just because it's such a you know,
- 7:40Speaker 1: outrageous name that people hear Jim Bob Cooter. They know
- 7:43Speaker 1: if his name was Jim Couter, they might not remember us.
- 7:45Speaker 1: But the fact that he's being involved. Mike Kafka, Zach Robinson,
- 7:52Speaker 1: Bobby Slowick, Charlie Weiss Junior. And think you hear those
- 7:56Speaker 1: names and you're like, wait what so yeah, exactly you
- 8:01Speaker 1: have those names there? Any of those names kind of
- 8:04Speaker 1: stand out as you like to fit or can see
- 8:08Speaker 1: because of another reason, maybe a relationship or something else.
- 8:13Speaker 3: I mean a couple of them. See, That's where I
- 8:16Speaker 3: go back to the fit. I don't know if any
- 8:18Speaker 3: I don't know if they fit. I don't know if
- 8:20Speaker 3: if Charlie weis junior who you know has been Lane
- 8:23Speaker 3: Kiffen's offensive coordinator both at Ole Miss and about to
- 8:27Speaker 3: be LSU fits like, I mean, yes, he can run
- 8:32Speaker 3: a lot of RPOs, can do a lot of the
- 8:33Speaker 3: college stuff that the Eagles do, but he's never been
- 8:36Speaker 3: an NFL play caller. And we just talked about, you know,
- 8:39Speaker 3: optics or just forget optics because the Eagles don't care
- 8:42Speaker 3: about that. But like when you have not a guy
- 8:44Speaker 3: who's never called plays in the NFL before come to
- 8:46Speaker 3: this team, try to draw up a defense for an offense,
- 8:51Speaker 3: I'm sorry, drop an offense for a personnel that has
- 8:54Speaker 3: already won Super Bowls and is like they have to
- 8:56Speaker 3: get his respect. Is it going to be there from
- 8:58Speaker 3: the start. It's a stretch, it's a you got a
- 9:00Speaker 3: really squint to see it. But I like the fact
- 9:03Speaker 3: that the Eagles want to get information and intel on
- 9:06Speaker 3: a guy who's a really bright mind, who's known for
- 9:08Speaker 3: doing really innovating things and has had success at the
- 9:12Speaker 3: college level. Obviously, you're at LSU now you're you're basically
- 9:15Speaker 3: one step from the NFL with all the talent that
- 9:18Speaker 3: you you're coaching so that's an interesting name.
- 9:23Speaker 2: So yeah, like you go through these guys and you
- 9:25Speaker 2: see some.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Zach Robinson is a guy who coached under you know,
- 9:28Speaker 3: he was with Land in the last two years, but
- 9:30Speaker 3: he mainly came from uh, I want to say the
- 9:33Speaker 3: Shanahan Tree, like that's his.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Well McVay, mfaye, that's what I meant.
- 9:38Speaker 1: McVay right, game coordinator for the Rams when they won
- 9:41Speaker 1: the Super Bowl.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Correct, So he's now that being.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Said, he has been kind of noted to be a
- 9:48Speaker 1: little bit of a disappointment as the play caller in Atlanta.
- 9:51Speaker 3: Sure, and plus if you're he ran almost an predominantly
- 9:55Speaker 3: pistol offense with the Falcons, is he going to do
- 9:57Speaker 3: that here? I mean, are the past con which are
- 10:00Speaker 3: going to be West Coast based and heavily motion pre
- 10:05Speaker 3: snap motion?
- 10:06Speaker 2: Is that?
- 10:06Speaker 3: Is that going to work with the Eagles, who do
- 10:10Speaker 3: not use pre snap motion, do not use misdirection, do
- 10:13Speaker 3: not have a passing game that intends to exploit every
- 10:17Speaker 3: single blade of grass on the field and is based.
- 10:19Speaker 2: On timing and rhythm. Like Mike McDaniel is awesome.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Mike McDaniel as an Eagles coordinator will excite a lot
- 10:25Speaker 3: of people. But could this offense right now as it
- 10:28Speaker 3: is currently constructed with Jeff Heltlan running the offensive run game,
- 10:32Speaker 3: could that be?
- 10:33Speaker 2: Where can that work? I do?
- 10:34Speaker 1: I want to say I did listen to McDaniel in
- 10:36Speaker 1: an interview from a couple of years ago when he
- 10:38Speaker 1: was in Washington, and he was talking about how adaptable
- 10:41Speaker 1: he had to be based on what a guy who
- 10:44Speaker 1: can adapt to his talent as opposed to this is
- 10:48Speaker 1: my offense and this is what I run.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Of course, But if you're getting Mike McDaniel and you're
- 10:55Speaker 3: asking him to adapt to the things that you already do,
- 10:58Speaker 3: are you getting Mike McDaniel? I have no doubt he
- 11:01Speaker 3: can adapt because let me ask you this question. What
- 11:04Speaker 3: you want him running what he does best is what
- 11:06Speaker 3: I would say, Yes.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Let me ask you this question. They had Waddle and
- 11:11Speaker 1: ty Tyree Hill, Tyreek Hill, Yep, you've got Brown and Smith.
- 11:16Speaker 1: I mean they're different type of receivers, but he found
- 11:18Speaker 1: ways to get them the ball. My question would be,
- 11:21Speaker 1: do you like Tua as the guy distributed him the
- 11:23Speaker 1: ball better or do you like Jalen Hurts as the
- 11:26Speaker 1: guy distributing the ball better? Well?
- 11:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think that that's where you saw out
- 11:30Speaker 2: of the change.
- 11:30Speaker 3: If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Dolphins were probably
- 11:33Speaker 3: more shotgun with Tua than most Shanahan.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Guys or most McVeigh guys are. They're under center.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Yes, it's cool that we've seen Jalen Hurt be able
- 11:42Speaker 3: to operate from under center. But there's no question that
- 11:45Speaker 3: Tua tongue of Ioloa, despite his flaws, of which he
- 11:48Speaker 3: has many, he is a very good timing and anticipation
- 11:52Speaker 3: West Coast style quarterback thrower. And they built that dolphense
- 11:55Speaker 3: around that short game, throwing it and occasionally getting it
- 11:59Speaker 3: deep to Tyreekill, but mostly yards after catch. He uses
- 12:03Speaker 3: a fullback, right, he uses a fullback like alec Ingold,
- 12:07Speaker 3: similarly to the way say the forty nine ers will
- 12:11Speaker 3: use Kyle You shit, right, So, like, what do the
- 12:14Speaker 3: Eagles have that could match that? That would be like
- 12:18Speaker 3: a core change you would probably have to make or
- 12:20Speaker 3: the Eagles would probably have to try to find one
- 12:22Speaker 3: of those guys. It is interestingly signed Carson Steele as
- 12:25Speaker 3: a fullback from the Chiefs, and they got Ben van
- 12:27Speaker 3: Sumer in. You know, and again I'm not saying Mike
- 12:30Speaker 3: McDaniel couldn't make it work. But you're talking about trying
- 12:34Speaker 3: to match a coordinator with a quarterback.
- 12:37Speaker 2: And a scheme. Look at what the Seattle Seahawks did,
- 12:39Speaker 2: all right. They moved on from Gino Smith.
- 12:43Speaker 3: They hired Clint Kubiak straight from the Shanahan tree to
- 12:47Speaker 3: be their offensive coordinator. So then they move on from
- 12:49Speaker 3: Gino Smith and they bring in who Sam Darnold, who
- 12:52Speaker 3: not only the year before was with Kevin O'Connell a
- 12:55Speaker 3: similar mindset and offensive mind but Donald before that was
- 12:59Speaker 3: in San Francisco under Shanahan when Kubiak was the pass
- 13:03Speaker 3: game coordinator. So the first thing they did was they
- 13:06Speaker 3: got this coordinator, they have an identity of what they
- 13:09Speaker 3: want to be, they got the right quarterback to fit
- 13:13Speaker 3: that identity.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Could that be.
- 13:15Speaker 3: The case with Mike McDaniel and Jalen Hurts. I don't
- 13:17Speaker 3: think it's as certain. I think that's like we have
- 13:20Speaker 3: to see if this thing works out.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Yeah, listen, I mean that's the big question there is
- 13:26Speaker 1: it is with Mike McDaniel, how much do the Eagles
- 13:32Speaker 1: look at their offense and say we want to scrap
- 13:35Speaker 1: the whole thing and just basically bang, hit, a button
- 13:38Speaker 1: and start over.
- 13:40Speaker 3: That's my question, which I think is hard to do
- 13:43Speaker 3: when you've got so many veterans who are locked into
- 13:46Speaker 3: long term deals, coaches who are here, the guy who's
- 13:49Speaker 3: like just Stoutlin right, and then a quarterback who's already
- 13:52Speaker 3: been to two Super Bowls and won one. I think
- 13:55Speaker 3: for Nick Sirianni, it is very difficult to look in
- 13:58Speaker 3: the mirror and say I need to take a sledgehammer
- 14:03Speaker 3: to everything that we've done offensively over the last five years.
- 14:08Speaker 3: When we've won seventy percent of our regular season game,
- 14:11Speaker 3: sixty percent of our playoff games, we've been to two
- 14:13Speaker 3: super Bowls, and we won a Super Bowl. How do
- 14:16Speaker 3: you look in the mirror and say, I'm gonna blow
- 14:19Speaker 3: all of that up and radically redefine it, knowing that
- 14:23Speaker 3: if it doesn't work, I probably I'm the first guy
- 14:24Speaker 3: that probably loses my job.
- 14:26Speaker 2: All Right.
- 14:27Speaker 1: The other guys that I want to throw your way,
- 14:29Speaker 1: Jeff Mosher and just kind of, you know, take your
- 14:31Speaker 1: temperature to see, you know, how they fit in the
- 14:35Speaker 1: possibility here. Brian Dabel, we just mentioned Mike McDaniel. Those
- 14:41Speaker 1: two guys there, we just talked about McDaniel Dabel. Interesting.
- 14:44Speaker 1: I was doing more research because I like Dabel. However,
- 14:48Speaker 1: he had really two high quality years as a coordinator
- 14:51Speaker 1: in Buffalo. They got him hired in New York before that,
- 14:57Speaker 1: not a lot of success as a coordinator in ltiple
- 15:00Speaker 1: stops and as the head coach in New York after
- 15:04Speaker 1: his one year that he got him to the playoffs,
- 15:06Speaker 1: not a lot of success. Now, that could be talent based,
- 15:08Speaker 1: but he's really living off of two really good years
- 15:12Speaker 1: in Buffalo. Can you see him come in here and
- 15:15Speaker 1: do it a lot what he did with Josh Allen.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Yes, say he's good. He's good now.
- 15:20Speaker 3: He clearly does not have the temperament to be a
- 15:23Speaker 3: head coach, which doesn't mean he won't get a head
- 15:25Speaker 3: coaching job again, but if you watch, you realize he
- 15:28Speaker 3: would have to make some major major changes in temperament,
- 15:32Speaker 3: which some guys just can't do if he's going to
- 15:34Speaker 3: be a head coach again.
- 15:35Speaker 2: But as an offensive coordinator, Listen, he challenged Josh Allen.
- 15:39Speaker 2: He coached him hard.
- 15:40Speaker 3: That's something we talked about on today's Inside the Birds podcast.
- 15:44Speaker 3: He challenged him and you saw how well that worked
- 15:45Speaker 3: out with Josh Allen. He is a good schemer. I
- 15:48Speaker 3: think he can come in here and probably be fine
- 15:51Speaker 3: with Stalton designing the run game. He's going to make
- 15:54Speaker 3: sure that the pass game with the quarterback athletic movements
- 15:57Speaker 3: are going to be a big part of what he does.
- 15:59Speaker 3: I think it's a perfect I just think that things
- 16:02Speaker 3: have to fall in place for the Eagles for this
- 16:04Speaker 3: to happen, and that would be a Dable doesn't get
- 16:08Speaker 3: a head coaching job or b there's a not another
- 16:11Speaker 3: offensive coordinator job that's gonna be as attractive, if not more.
- 16:15Speaker 2: To him.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll see. He's getting head coaching interviews as well.
- 16:20Speaker 1: So the group that we have here, Dabele, let's say
- 16:23Speaker 1: he gets a head coaching job and McDaniel gets the
- 16:25Speaker 1: head coaching job. Josh Grizzard, Jim Bob Cooter, Mike Kafka,
- 16:29Speaker 1: Zach Robinson, Bobby Slowick, Charlie Weiss. Is that a group
- 16:34Speaker 1: that you take somebody from or do you have to
- 16:36Speaker 1: extend your net?
- 16:37Speaker 2: Oh?
- 16:38Speaker 3: Well, I mean they're definitely going to extend their net anyway.
- 16:40Speaker 3: But you know, to me, that's a preliminary group. The
- 16:45Speaker 3: guy that you sort of keep your eye on is
- 16:48Speaker 3: Cooter because he has a relationship with Nick Sirianni. He
- 16:52Speaker 3: was here in Philadelphia in twenty twenty one, then he
- 16:55Speaker 3: went and became the old Colts offensive coordinator. He has
- 16:58Speaker 3: called plays before, he did not call plays in Indianapolis
- 17:03Speaker 3: over the last I think there's two years right, because
- 17:05Speaker 3: Shane Steichen is calling plays, but he has called plays
- 17:08Speaker 3: at other spots. And if you're looking for someone, if
- 17:12Speaker 3: Nick serrian is looking for someone who can come in
- 17:15Speaker 3: here and be a proven play caller, has that experience,
- 17:19Speaker 3: has had some success, but will also align with the
- 17:22Speaker 3: core philosophies of what they want to do, then that
- 17:25Speaker 3: is a guy that makes sense.
- 17:27Speaker 1: All right, Jeff Boucher, I want to spend this to
- 17:29Speaker 1: something that I opened up today's show with and get
- 17:31Speaker 1: your take.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Okay, yep.
- 17:33Speaker 3: By the way, I just need to say, I know,
- 17:35Speaker 3: because you know how people interpret things.
- 17:37Speaker 2: This is not me endorsing anything.
- 17:39Speaker 3: I'm not saying I think Nick Sirianni should be in
- 17:41Speaker 3: his comfort zone. I'm just telling you my sense of
- 17:44Speaker 3: the situation talking to people and seeing how Nick has
- 17:47Speaker 3: been reacting over the years.
- 17:49Speaker 2: So go ahead, all right.
- 17:50Speaker 1: A couple things.
- 17:52Speaker 2: One.
- 17:53Speaker 1: I left this weekend highly disappointed in the Eagles defense.
- 17:56Speaker 1: That was my takeaway from the weekend. You should this
- 18:00Speaker 1: Seahawks shoved the Niners in a locker and took their
- 18:03Speaker 1: lunch money. The fact that the Eagles listen their offense
- 18:07Speaker 1: we knew all years stunk, so you know that that's
- 18:09Speaker 1: going to be a challenge. They gave you the lead
- 18:12Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter, and the Eagles defense gave up
- 18:15Speaker 1: two touchdowns on long drives in the fourth quarter at
- 18:19Speaker 1: home with that offense, after watching them do what they
- 18:23Speaker 1: couldn't they couldn't do anything against Seattle twice. That's where
- 18:27Speaker 1: I'm disappointed out. But the Eagles offensive ineptitude basically gave
- 18:33Speaker 1: the defense a pass fair or unfair. And the question
- 18:36Speaker 1: off that is do I have to now reevaluate what
- 18:39Speaker 1: I need to do this offense to that defense?
- 18:44Speaker 3: Do have to do you have to Well, I mean
- 18:46Speaker 3: it doesn't matter because you are reevaluating the offense, right,
- 18:49Speaker 3: you're bringing in a new play caller.
- 18:50Speaker 1: No, I'm talking about do I have to reevaluate what
- 18:53Speaker 1: I You might go, Hey, the defense is pretty good.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Do I have to do anything? You might have to
- 18:56Speaker 1: look at that defense. No, I'll say I might have
- 18:59Speaker 1: to get a defense isn't as good as I thought
- 19:01Speaker 1: it was.
- 19:02Speaker 3: I think that there are certain elements of the defense
- 19:04Speaker 3: that will have to be looked at a little more closely,
- 19:07Speaker 3: like the pass rush.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Because ye well he talked all offseason.
- 19:10Speaker 1: If people didn't want to, you know, Miles Garrett blah
- 19:12Speaker 1: blah blah, Miles Garrett led the league in sacked, He
- 19:14Speaker 1: broke the record. Can you imagine that guy here or
- 19:17Speaker 1: Trey Hendrickson, like Jylex Hunt did not show up in
- 19:20Speaker 1: the stat sheet in the game the other day. Nolan
- 19:22Speaker 1: Smith was a disappointment this season. Let's be honest. Jalen
- 19:26Speaker 1: Carter didn't have a great season. He ended up with
- 19:27Speaker 1: a sack in the playoff game, but he has to
- 19:30Speaker 1: be better. Jordan Davis, you have a big decision to
- 19:32Speaker 1: make here. Then he got the Dean thing. You know,
- 19:35Speaker 1: let Dean walk because you essentially said that Dean was
- 19:37Speaker 1: so much better than Campbell that Campbell had no role.
- 19:41Speaker 1: So you now that I let Dean walk out the door.
- 19:44Speaker 1: They got a lot more questions, I think on defense
- 19:46Speaker 1: than we all anticipated.
- 19:47Speaker 3: I think those questions, though, are personnel related and can
- 19:51Speaker 3: be added to and fixed.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Whereas on offense, you're.
- 19:54Speaker 3: You're you're really wondering, like, am I schematically not good anymore?
- 19:58Speaker 3: Do I have to, like I said, take a do
- 20:01Speaker 3: you have to gut this thing? Like, you know, am
- 20:03Speaker 3: I just putting new kitchen cabinet faces on? Or am
- 20:06Speaker 3: I taking a sledge hammer to the kitchen and modernizing myself?
- 20:09Speaker 3: Whereas on defense, they have to look at it and say, Okay,
- 20:13Speaker 3: can we bring in like a better number three pass
- 20:16Speaker 3: rusher than like an Uce or brand, like someone who's younger,
- 20:20Speaker 3: you know, can we add to that? I think that
- 20:23Speaker 3: Carter will be fine because he's gonna probably undergo some
- 20:27Speaker 3: procedures this offseason on his shoulders. I'm not reporting that,
- 20:30Speaker 3: but you just I just think that he needs to
- 20:32Speaker 3: be healthy.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Davis still had Davis actually.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Had a good game against the Niners, but his pass
- 20:37Speaker 3: rush is coming along.
- 20:38Speaker 1: But the question is are you willing to invest what
- 20:41Speaker 1: you're going to have to invest in Davis to make
- 20:44Speaker 1: him stay here or do you look?
- 20:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that I think you can't judge the
- 20:47Speaker 3: defense off of one performance because they were pretty darn
- 20:51Speaker 3: good for most of the year, whereas the offense has
- 20:54Speaker 3: just been a steady crawl to the bottom for a
- 20:56Speaker 3: couple of years.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Can Read Blanketship be your best safety?
- 21:02Speaker 2: Can he? Yes, he can be.
- 21:05Speaker 3: He was their best safety when they won a Super Bowl, right,
- 21:07Speaker 3: I mean, and was a playmaker, but with the responsibilities.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Of playmaking at that position. Now reads a free agent.
- 21:15Speaker 1: And do you say you have to have him back?
- 21:16Speaker 1: When you say, you know what, we got to change
- 21:19Speaker 1: our whole thought.
- 21:20Speaker 2: He's not He's not irreplacable at all. Yeah, and mccooper
- 21:25Speaker 2: will be back. I think they'll be okay there, Uh
- 21:27Speaker 2: that that's fine. Tuning the offense is remodeling.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Well. I wonder I only asked this way because as
- 21:34Speaker 1: we've talked a lot of about a lot of that.
- 21:36Speaker 1: But we got a lot of people watching right now
- 21:38Speaker 1: that want to know this. Brown signed, my lot of signed.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Dickerson signed, Jurgen signed, Steen signed, Dick Lane, what's gonna
- 21:48Speaker 1: happen with him? DeVante signed, Barkley signed, Hurt sign. I
- 21:54Speaker 1: don't know where you're gonna make a lot of changes
- 21:55Speaker 1: on that offensive side other than the coordinator. So if
- 21:58Speaker 1: you're gonna make changes, it's probably gonna have to be
- 22:00Speaker 1: on the other side.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Yeah, Coordinator changes obviously are expected to be big offensive line.
- 22:08Speaker 3: You're gonna have to address depth there. You just mentioned
- 22:11Speaker 3: Lane Johnson. You have to draft offensive alignment high, which
- 22:14Speaker 3: the Eagles tend to do anyway, even if they don't
- 22:17Speaker 3: automatically start.
- 22:18Speaker 2: But there is talent there.
- 22:19Speaker 3: So that's why I feel like the new play caller,
- 22:22Speaker 3: combined with what we expect to be better health or
- 22:24Speaker 3: at least better depth up front, should make that offense
- 22:28Speaker 3: click again. Right, they'll gotta score thirty points a game.
- 22:31Speaker 3: If they got to like twenty four, I think that
- 22:33Speaker 3: they would be good.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Well, that's what I'm saying. So you're probably not gonna
- 22:36Speaker 1: make a lot of changes to your offense other than
- 22:39Speaker 1: they're just the coordinator.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Other than and we'll see what happens with AJ Brown,
- 22:43Speaker 3: that would be a pretty well And I would say this,
- 22:45Speaker 3: I think I heard you saying this last week, and
- 22:48Speaker 3: I agree, Like they really.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Really need a true slot receiver, yes Brought.
- 22:55Speaker 3: They've kind of gotten away with Goddard being a flex slot,
- 22:58Speaker 3: but they need both a flex tight end and a
- 23:01Speaker 3: slot receiver. You know, they missed on Anaya Smith a
- 23:04Speaker 3: couple of years ago, and that that hurt because that
- 23:07Speaker 3: was a vintage guy who could be a slot receiver.
- 23:10Speaker 3: I don't know that Darius Cooper is a slot receiver,
- 23:13Speaker 3: and he might be your your one, your your next
- 23:15Speaker 3: guy if AJ Brown's out the door, But they really
- 23:17Speaker 3: do need somebody to be If they're especially going to
- 23:20Speaker 3: bring in an offensive coordinator who's known for working the
- 23:23Speaker 3: middle of the field, then they're gonna need better weaponry
- 23:26Speaker 3: to use over the middle of the field.
- 23:28Speaker 1: All right, you mentioned AJ Brown. We'll talk more about
- 23:30Speaker 1: that Wednesday and some of the other stuff that's going
- 23:33Speaker 1: on around this team. There's never a drama around this
- 23:35Speaker 1: team that we can talk about in the offseason.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Right No, never, never, never.
- 23:39Speaker 1: When drama happens football at four right here every day,
- 23:43Speaker 1: four o'clock and on the Inside of the Birds podcast,
- 23:45Speaker 1: those guys will dig a little deeper. I'm sure you're
- 23:48Speaker 1: getting your offseason plans all put together for the Eagles draft,
- 23:53Speaker 1: free agency, and all that stuff football at for the
- 23:56Speaker 1: Inside of the Birds podcast right here on the Sports
- 23:59Speaker 1: Bast Live on seven three ESPN.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Thanks man, Hey, Mike, real quick, real quick? How long
- 24:03Speaker 2: do you think we will go before ever.
- 24:04Speaker 3: Seeing a play like the Bears game tying touchdown Sunday night?
- 24:08Speaker 1: Again, I'm telling you he reminds me of Michael Vick.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Just flicks that thing I mean off the back foot
- 24:14Speaker 1: getting chased around playground style, and grows forty five yards
- 24:19Speaker 1: in the air like that. It's unbelievable.
- 24:21Speaker 2: I maybe six feet under before play like that ever
- 24:23Speaker 2: happens again. I'll see you about
