- 0:00Speaker 1: It's the Mark Simon Show on seven tenor well. Roger
- 0:06Speaker 1: Friedman a great entertainment reporter. His website is showbiz for
- 0:10Speaker 1: one one dot com. You check it every day. There's
- 0:12Speaker 1: always new stuff up there. Showbiz for one one dot com.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Roger Friedman, how.
- 0:18Speaker 2: You doing, I'm great, Good morning Mark.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Hey, Savannah Guthrie is going to finally do the first
- 0:24Speaker 1: Today Show interview Thursday, Friday, breaks down christ Thursday and Friday.
- 0:29Speaker 1: You think they're exploiting Yeah.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Well, now, I mean she wants to go back. She
- 0:34Speaker 2: has to go back to work. It's a terrible story.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Nobody's they haven't been able to find the mother. It's
- 0:40Speaker 2: been a huge public thing, and I think to pave
- 0:45Speaker 2: the way for her to come back to work, she's
- 0:47Speaker 2: got to do get it all out on the table.
- 0:51Speaker 2: So they'll do it Thursday Friday. They'll get big ratings
- 0:54Speaker 2: and then maybe a month later in May, she'll come back.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Yeah, well I'm here in April tenth. That's the day
- 0:59Speaker 1: she's looking to coming back.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Oh April tenth, is that what they're saying? Okay, well,
- 1:02Speaker 2: then then she'll be back April tenth, and you know,
- 1:07Speaker 2: she has to go back to living. Her kids have
- 1:09Speaker 2: to go back to school, and you know, life has
- 1:13Speaker 2: to go back to normal, and they may never find
- 1:16Speaker 2: this woman, you know, who knows what's going to happen.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Not the best I think that maybe.
- 1:22Speaker 1: It's that the best thing for the Tucson Chamber of Commerce.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I mean, you look at that goofy sheriff and those
- 1:27Speaker 1: crazy locals, and oh.
- 1:29Speaker 2: And the mayor of Tucson has never said a word
- 1:31Speaker 2: about this, not a word. This woman has never spoken
- 1:35Speaker 2: about it. I think at the beginning she says something like, oh,
- 1:37Speaker 2: we have a problem in town. That was February first.
- 1:41Speaker 2: This woman has not done a thing to help in
- 1:44Speaker 2: the case. Yeah.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I mean, if I were looking at this, that was
- 1:47Speaker 1: very weird. Would not want to live in one of
- 1:48Speaker 1: these breaking bad kind of towns.
- 1:53Speaker 2: As New Yorkers, you know, we're against this generally speaking.
- 1:56Speaker 2: You know, I always said that in the movie Fatal Attraction,
- 2:00Speaker 2: and when the family lived in Manhattan in an apartment
- 2:03Speaker 2: building with a doorman, nothing happened to them. The minute
- 2:06Speaker 2: they moved to the suburbs, Glenn Close got in there
- 2:10Speaker 2: and boiled the bunny. So it took the kid hostage,
- 2:15Speaker 2: and you know, the whole thing. So it's much better
- 2:18Speaker 2: to be in the city and be in a nice
- 2:20Speaker 2: doorman building and not have these problems.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Also, you'd have surveillance cameras on every inch of every block.
- 2:26Speaker 1: You'd know what happened.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Well, this is a very weird story about missus Guthrie
- 2:30Speaker 2: because there doesn't seem to have been much security at
- 2:33Speaker 2: the house or anybody living with her. She's eighty four
- 2:36Speaker 2: years old and she can't walk or something. And the
- 2:41Speaker 2: night that she had dinner with a daughter and son
- 2:44Speaker 2: in law, they sent for her in an uber. They
- 2:48Speaker 2: didn't even go pick her up. I don't understand. This
- 2:51Speaker 2: is not if she was so old and so infirm,
- 2:55Speaker 2: they were sort of treating her like, you know, a package.
- 3:00Speaker 2: So there's a lot of I hope that I doubt
- 3:02Speaker 2: that how will ask her these questions, But those are
- 3:05Speaker 2: the questions I would ask, like, why were you not
- 3:08Speaker 2: why didn't you have someone living in the house with
- 3:10Speaker 2: your mother? First of all?
- 3:12Speaker 1: You know, I mean it's a remote area. Yeah, no,
- 3:15Speaker 1: they're good questions. But hey, have you been watching this
- 3:18Speaker 1: JFK Junior mini series?
- 3:19Speaker 2: This series? I watched a little bit of it, you know,
- 3:24Speaker 2: around you around for the real around.
- 3:27Speaker 1: How realistic does it look?
- 3:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and not really realistic at all. And I'm sort
- 3:34Speaker 2: of offended by the fact that people are doing these
- 3:36Speaker 2: uh you know, they're dressing up as John Kennedy Jr.
- 3:41Speaker 2: And they're having contests about who looks like him and
- 3:47Speaker 2: all this. It's it's offensive. They died in a really
- 3:50Speaker 2: terrible accident and none of these people knew him. The
- 3:54Speaker 2: people who made the TV show didn't know him. And
- 3:58Speaker 2: you see a lot of people who were for John
- 4:01Speaker 2: complaining now and saying that the show has no bearing
- 4:04Speaker 2: on the truth. Of course, Jack Schlossberg doesn't you know,
- 4:08Speaker 2: believe it, and has you know, really criticized Ryan Murphy.
- 4:13Speaker 2: And also don't remember, you know, don't forget Carol Bassett
- 4:17Speaker 2: died and her sister died. So how hard is this show,
- 4:21Speaker 2: you know, for the that family. I think it's it's
- 4:24Speaker 2: just exploitation.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Oh definitely. But they really went the great length and
- 4:28Speaker 1: expense to recreate all the locations of the nineties. All
- 4:31Speaker 1: the streets are filled with nineties cars. It does have
- 4:34Speaker 1: a good look to it. I know, it brings back
- 4:37Speaker 1: a lot of memories.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Hey, yeah, I don't know if they're good memories.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Yeah, tell us about Paul McCartney. What's he up to?
- 4:45Speaker 2: Paul McCartney. The other day he started posting cryptic messages
- 4:50Speaker 2: on Instagram and now he's now even more cryptic messages
- 4:55Speaker 2: came out overnight and it looks like he's going to
- 4:58Speaker 2: be announcing a new album tomorrow today, Tomorrow, Friday. And
- 5:03Speaker 2: it's amazing because he's going to be eighty four and
- 5:07Speaker 2: he never stops. And the album is called The Boys
- 5:11Speaker 2: of Dungeon Lane. Dungeon Lane is a street in Liverpool
- 5:16Speaker 2: where he grew up, where they all grew up. And
- 5:19Speaker 2: I think it's going to be a very autobiographical album
- 5:21Speaker 2: about his young days. And then, of course this Friday
- 5:25Speaker 2: and Saturday, he's playing two shows in Los Angeles at
- 5:30Speaker 2: the Fonda Theater, which seats about twelve hundred people each night,
- 5:35Speaker 2: and of course the thing is totally sold out and
- 5:37Speaker 2: people are going to be lined up around the block
- 5:39Speaker 2: to try to get in. You know, he did this
- 5:41Speaker 2: a couple of years ago at the Bowie at the
- 5:46Speaker 2: Barry Ballroom here in New York. I went to it.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Getting into it, you literally had to give a kidney
- 5:52Speaker 2: to get in there. And the Barry ballroom is only
- 5:56Speaker 2: about half as many seats. I think it's five seventy
- 5:59Speaker 2: five and everybody stood and it was an amazing show.
- 6:04Speaker 2: I'm sure that people in LA will have a similar experience.
- 6:09Speaker 2: And then I guess maybe the album will come out
- 6:12Speaker 2: for his eighty fourth birthday in June.
- 6:15Speaker 1: So from Penny Lane to that's pretty cool, Penny Lane
- 6:18Speaker 1: to Dungeon Lane.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Dungeon Lane, right, there are a lot of lanes apparently
- 6:22Speaker 2: in Liverpool.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Barry Manilow, what's going on with him?
- 6:29Speaker 2: You know, Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond, All these guys in
- 6:31Speaker 2: their eighties are putting out music. Barry Manilow has had
- 6:38Speaker 2: a hit all winter on adult contemporary radio. It's called
- 6:42Speaker 2: Once Before You Go. Babyface remixed it and it turned
- 6:47Speaker 2: out to me a little bit of a hit. So
- 6:49Speaker 2: he's got a whole album coming out next month, but
- 6:54Speaker 2: all new songs. Health Wise, he has lung cancer and
- 7:01Speaker 2: he was operated on and it looks like he's done
- 7:04Speaker 2: very well. He's done very well and he's going to
- 7:09Speaker 2: start touring again next month.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Oh okay, well that's great.
- 7:12Speaker 2: So it's pretty cool. And then Neil Diamond, he's putting
- 7:17Speaker 2: out an unreleased album from from decades ago that he
- 7:22Speaker 2: never put out. And now I kind of tell you.
- 7:25Speaker 2: The first song is great. You know, the Neil time
- 7:28Speaker 2: and stuff I love is like solitary man. You know,
- 7:32Speaker 2: it's that before all that, you know, I Am I said,
- 7:35Speaker 2: and all that and Hello America. But this album, this
- 7:41Speaker 2: song sounds pretty good. So maybe the album is nice.
- 7:43Speaker 1: It sounds pretty good to the musicologists and they love
- 7:46Speaker 1: but you know, there's a reason it was unreleased. You know,
- 7:52Speaker 1: they always give you the album we put back. The
- 7:55Speaker 1: missing cut wasn't missing. They just didn't want to use it.
- 7:57Speaker 1: It wasn't that good. So yeah, but this song sounds
- 8:02Speaker 1: pretty good. So I don't know.
- 8:03Speaker 2: I mean, I'm not a big Neil Diamond fan, but
- 8:05Speaker 2: I give them credit. You know, these guys keep plugging away.
- 8:08Speaker 2: You know. It's like, as long as we're alive, we
- 8:10Speaker 2: just keep going. Nobody wants to retire.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Yeah, hey, we only got about thirty seconds left. Tell
- 8:14Speaker 1: us how Broadway's doing. Is business?
- 8:16Speaker 2: Okay, Broadway is booming. It was up five million dollars
- 8:21Speaker 2: this week from last week. All the shows are booming. Yep,
- 8:25Speaker 2: Hamilton is booming. The Harry Potter Show is booming. Everybody
- 8:30Speaker 2: was up in the last week because of spring break,
- 8:33Speaker 2: and it's busier than ever. On Monday night, I went
- 8:37Speaker 2: to see Giant with John Lithgow, who's just a fantastic
- 8:41Speaker 2: actor and gives a great performance. Daniel Radcliffe is doing
- 8:46Speaker 2: a one man show on Broadway that's supposed to be excellent.
- 8:49Speaker 2: I haven't seen it yet. And then coming in June
- 8:53Speaker 2: is a sting to the Metropolitan Opera with his show
- 8:56Speaker 2: The Last Ship, which played on Broadway a few years
- 9:00Speaker 2: ago and now is coming back in sort of a
- 9:02Speaker 2: new form with beautiful sets and it's supposed to be
- 9:05Speaker 2: got incredible reviews in Europe, and now it's sailing into
- 9:09Speaker 2: the Metropolitan Opera House for nine performances in June.
- 9:13Speaker 1: That's it.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Nine, just nine. That's it. That he's got to move
- 9:18Speaker 2: on to the next country. Yeah.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I don't like that they got to do more than that,
- 9:20Speaker 1: but anyway, it sounds good. Well maybe they will, all right, Well,
- 9:24Speaker 1: everybody check out Roger Freeman's website. There's always great stuff there.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Just go to showbiz for one one dot com, Showbiz
