- 0:00Speaker 1: Speaking of this song, I found a recreation of the
- 0:03Speaker 1: Lionel Richie sculpture from Hello, and I asked Donald if
- 0:06Speaker 1: I could buy it for him, and he said no.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Please, No, I said please? No is what I said, Yes,
- 0:14Speaker 2: as much as I know, listen, I know it's art
- 0:17Speaker 2: and I know someone took the time to three D
- 0:19Speaker 2: print this bad boy.
- 0:20Speaker 1: No, no, no, I think it's really sculpted. No, it is.
- 0:25Speaker 2: There's only one real sculpture, and that's the one they
- 0:28Speaker 2: use for the music video.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Yeah, but if I gave that to everything else, you wouldn't.
- 0:31Speaker 1: You wouldn't just no pun intended a bust. Get it
- 0:35Speaker 1: because it's a bust of Lionel Ritchie, Yeah, no doubt.
- 0:39Speaker 1: All right, thank you. If I gave that to you,
- 0:42Speaker 1: you wouldn't display it in your home.
- 0:45Speaker 2: I would not display that in.
- 0:46Speaker 1: My Why not? How about the kitchen?
- 0:48Speaker 2: My friend? My friend? Are you right now?
- 0:53Speaker 1: It's such a funny conversation piece.
- 0:55Speaker 2: It's not a fun Zach brought me this as a
- 0:57Speaker 2: joke for my fiftieth. People will go, oh.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I'm sure that Daniel, you missed it. I was telling
- 1:05Speaker 1: Donald that I found online a recreation of the Lionel
- 1:09Speaker 1: Richie Bust from the Hello music video.
- 1:13Speaker 2: I could see it in your eyes and.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I want to buy it for him, but he won't.
- 1:16Speaker 1: He's not He's unwilling to accept it.
- 1:18Speaker 2: I don't understand that part. She's blind, right, but in
- 1:23Speaker 2: her eyes.
- 1:24Speaker 3: See into a blind person's eyes, Donald, Yeah, he can
- 1:29Speaker 3: usually them.
- 1:29Speaker 4: Things is white, like if Stevie wanted to takes off
- 1:32Speaker 4: his carols.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Listen, Stevie wanted to takes off his glasses. That things
- 1:36Speaker 2: is white.
- 1:37Speaker 1: It doesn't matter. What he sees in her eyes is love.
- 1:41Speaker 2: He could see it in a smile. Now that I understand.
- 1:44Speaker 1: She did a really good job on his head, by
- 1:46Speaker 1: the way, I mean.
- 1:47Speaker 2: She really that's how she sees him.
- 1:49Speaker 1: I know, but it's amazing. I think she did it
- 1:51Speaker 1: from touching his face. But her work was outstanding.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's a stalker.
- 1:57Speaker 1: No, I don't think in that Dan and Era the
- 2:00Speaker 1: the actress would have to be blind. But I feel
- 2:02Speaker 1: like today it would be necessary that she was a
- 2:05Speaker 1: blind woman.
- 2:07Speaker 5: Yeah, probably, you try to.
- 2:10Speaker 2: And she would have to really know how to sculpt too.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Yeah, she'd probably also have to really be a sculptor.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Really, I think I think she'd have to be a sculptor.
- 2:21Speaker 1: In twenty twenty four, Joel, she would need to be
- 2:24Speaker 1: a very talented blind sculptor.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Just like I can't play I can't play single in
- 2:29Speaker 2: movies anymore. I gotta play freaking married in every movie
- 2:32Speaker 2: I'm in now, because that's a requirements, I'm no.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Longer sing true. Are you allowed to have sex scenes
- 2:37Speaker 1: with Casey? Lets you? Oh you did do a sex scene?
- 2:40Speaker 1: What was that show on the l Yeah? I was
- 2:43Speaker 1: Casey okay with that?
- 2:46Speaker 2: Yes, very much?
- 2:48Speaker 1: So, oh she didn't mind.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Listen, Lisia has no interest in me, and so that
- 2:57Speaker 2: sex scene is purely professional. That is going nowhere. Okay,
- 3:02Speaker 2: So Casey's like, yeah, go ahead, how's the fun.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Do you think there's an actress that tissue would not
- 3:07Speaker 1: be okay with you having a sex scene with.
- 3:09Speaker 2: I'm sure there are several actresses that Cassey would be like, listen,
- 3:12Speaker 2: we need to have a conversation about this. It's not
- 3:14Speaker 2: the it's not that I don't want you to work.
- 3:17Speaker 2: It's just that I don't want you to work too
- 3:21Speaker 2: hard in some of these scenes. You know what I mean?
- 3:24Speaker 1: Right? I hear you? Well, I never saw your sex scene,
- 3:27Speaker 1: but I would like to.
- 3:30Speaker 2: I have a lot of sex scenes. I have sex
- 3:32Speaker 2: scenes on scrubs.
- 3:34Speaker 1: No, but I the L word one was heated, right,
- 3:36Speaker 1: didn't you show ass?
- 3:38Speaker 2: I didn't show ass.
- 3:39Speaker 5: No.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Have you showed ass in a sex scene?
- 3:42Speaker 2: No, I've showed ass in a movie before.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Never movie for fans that might want to see it,
- 3:49Speaker 1: And Homie Pimoni, Oh holy money? And how far into
- 3:54Speaker 1: the movie do you know the exact I don't.
- 3:56Speaker 2: At some point I know I mooned someone in the
- 3:58Speaker 2: hospital and it caused is them to drop all of
- 4:03Speaker 2: a tray full of of of what are those knives
- 4:09Speaker 2: and scalps, scalpels and the things that open up the
- 4:14Speaker 2: ship the clamps?
- 4:15Speaker 1: The fake doctor. You should know what these terms are
- 4:19Speaker 1: you It's a protractor, it's fourceps four steps or maybe
- 4:25Speaker 1: a retractor, not a protractor. Factor is the math thing?
- 4:29Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 4:30Speaker 1: The math thing?
- 4:30Speaker 2: Donald, Yeah, I'm sure that was on the trade too.
- 4:33Speaker 1: But for fans of the podcast that would like to
- 4:35Speaker 1: see your ass, they can watch Homies Pomonium. Maybe just
- 4:38Speaker 1: fast forward.
- 4:38Speaker 2: It's not a good ass. At the time, I wasn't
- 4:41Speaker 2: really doing squats yet. This is before this is a
- 4:45Speaker 2: to remember the Titans, but before kick ass, and so
- 4:50Speaker 2: I mean kick ass. I had grown man ass. You
- 4:52Speaker 2: know what grown man asses?
- 4:53Speaker 1: No, what's grown man?
- 4:55Speaker 2: You've got grown man ass. Now that's when you like,
- 4:58Speaker 2: you're working out at a a grown age and your
- 5:02Speaker 2: ass is probably hard at some somewhere inside the mush,
- 5:06Speaker 2: but it's it's it's still firm. It's not it's like
- 5:11Speaker 2: the fat has molded because the muscle is telling you
- 5:14Speaker 2: know what I mean, you got nice ass, that grown
- 5:16Speaker 2: man ass. It hasn't turned into a sack of nickels yet.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Well, nothing's a sack of nickels. If you do squats
- 5:22Speaker 1: and you do all the things, that's grown man ass.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I've been doing squats.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I did squats for a little bit. That shit burned.
- 5:33Speaker 2: It doesn't burns. It freaking it freaking It's like a
- 5:37Speaker 2: Charlie horse to the butt cheeks, you know what I mean?
- 5:39Speaker 1: You know, doing legs is not fun because it hurts,
- 5:42Speaker 1: and then.
- 5:42Speaker 2: You gotta get it done. Let me turn, let me.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Everybody's recording, right, Dane, nobody's recording. You left the room, Daniel,
- 5:51Speaker 1: and we had to record. Yeah, well I had to
- 5:53Speaker 1: handle something.
- 5:56Speaker 5: He was making sure.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I guess are ready, you know you know what I
- 5:59Speaker 1: felt when you came back in the room, Dan, I
- 6:01Speaker 1: felt this.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Good?
- 6:09Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, how you doing, Donald Faison?
- 6:12Speaker 2: Good? You know my show got canceled. My show got canceled,
- 6:16Speaker 2: God canceled, NBC? Thank you so much.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Do you want to talk about it?
- 6:21Speaker 2: I do. Let's talk about it.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Yeah, you had a great time. I don't understand why
- 6:27Speaker 1: I got canceled because the ratings were hot, were so hot.
- 6:31Speaker 1: You told me that that has to do with the streaming.
- 6:35Speaker 1: The streaming numbers weren't.
- 6:37Speaker 2: I don't know, man, I don't know.
- 6:38Speaker 1: What do they tell you? What do they tell you?
- 6:40Speaker 2: I don't know anything anymore. That's just one of those things, man,
- 6:44Speaker 2: where we're not.
- 6:45Speaker 1: You know, how do you feel?
- 6:47Speaker 6: You know?
- 6:48Speaker 1: The shitty thing about having a show cancels. You don't
- 6:50Speaker 1: get a chance to say goodbye to everybody. You don't
- 6:51Speaker 1: get a chance that it's like, you know, you just
- 6:53Speaker 1: everyone thinks they're coming back.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that's kind of fucked up too, Like we waited
- 7:00Speaker 2: till the end, which is great. I guess. No news
- 7:02Speaker 2: is always good news, so you always have hope. And
- 7:05Speaker 2: I appreciate the feeling of hope and stuff like that.
- 7:07Speaker 2: That this had an opportunity. But still, man, it was
- 7:10Speaker 2: fun to work with these two Abigail and and John.
- 7:13Speaker 1: And did you check in with them when you found out?
- 7:16Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, there's always a long shot of somebody
- 7:19Speaker 2: else picking it up, or you know, there's all of
- 7:22Speaker 2: these things. But you know, I didn't. I wanted to
- 7:27Speaker 2: go back to work and work with them because I
- 7:29Speaker 2: had a lot of fun. And you know, you learned
- 7:31Speaker 2: from great you know, performers, and I learned a lot
- 7:35Speaker 2: from John Cryer.
- 7:36Speaker 1: And well, it's so confusing, you know, because you you
- 7:38Speaker 1: you had really really great numbers. And I guess what
- 7:41Speaker 1: you're saying is that they told you that even though
- 7:43Speaker 1: you had great numbers live on on.
- 7:46Speaker 2: NBC, it's about streaming, man, It's.
- 7:48Speaker 1: About how many people we are watching it on what
- 7:51Speaker 1: is peacock peacock?
- 7:52Speaker 2: Yeah, you know that's the that listen as much as
- 7:56Speaker 2: as much as we want to say network television, and
- 8:00Speaker 2: it's important nobody's really watching it anymore. Man. Numbers used
- 8:05Speaker 2: to be like this is one hundred.
- 8:06Speaker 7: Man.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Numbers used to be like, you know, a twenty seven
- 8:09Speaker 2: If you had twenty seven million people watching your show,
- 8:12Speaker 2: you're a successful show. And if you had the numbers
- 8:15Speaker 2: that people have now, if Scrubs did the numbers that
- 8:19Speaker 2: the that the TV audiences watched now, it would have
- 8:23Speaker 2: never made it on television.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just not how people consume television anymore, it
- 8:28Speaker 1: is it. They go, all right, I like that show,
- 8:31Speaker 1: that new Donald Faison John Cryer show. I don't need
- 8:34Speaker 1: to watch it with commercials. I'll just watch it the
- 8:37Speaker 1: next day without commercials. And I can you know, I
- 8:40Speaker 1: can watch I can pause that, I can do. You know,
- 8:42Speaker 1: That's just how people consume media.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Now, right. And if you and if it's not your
- 8:46Speaker 2: cup of tea, and the streaming numbers aren't the numbers
- 8:49Speaker 2: that you know, the networks which are now streaming services,
- 8:54Speaker 2: If it's not what they want, then that's what it is.
- 8:56Speaker 2: And I don't think we did what we wanted what
- 8:58Speaker 2: they wanted. We did great. I know we did good
- 9:01Speaker 2: on television. When you looked at the overnights in the
- 9:03Speaker 2: eighteen to forty nine, it was really surprising all of
- 9:06Speaker 2: you guys who did watch the fans of the show.
- 9:08Speaker 5: You.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I really appreciate you tuning in. It's really nice, man,
- 9:11Speaker 2: like straight up man, it was great to have a
- 9:13Speaker 2: place to perform for people again, and there was a
- 9:16Speaker 2: core group of people and you know, you know, it's
- 9:19Speaker 2: just it's one of those things where it's like, shit, man,
- 9:22Speaker 2: I don't want it to end, and it ended, and
- 9:25Speaker 2: now it's like, all right, well.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Do you want to know what the blessing in disguise is?
- 9:31Speaker 2: What's the blessing in disguise?
- 9:33Speaker 1: If we were to do some form of a Scrubs reboot,
- 9:36Speaker 1: there's a world where if this was a hit show,
- 9:39Speaker 1: you wouldn't have been available to do the Scrubs rebook.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Yeah, but there's also a world where I could have
- 9:44Speaker 2: done both and got both checks. I'm greedy, you know
- 9:46Speaker 2: what I mean. When it comes to shit like that,
- 9:48Speaker 2: Let's keep it one hundred like that's one, you know,
- 9:52Speaker 2: one of the dopest things I remember before I ever
- 9:55Speaker 2: was I mean, I had acted professionally, but I thought
- 9:57Speaker 2: it was so cool that Michael J. Foix did Back
- 10:01Speaker 2: to the Future and family ties at the same time,
- 10:03Speaker 2: I thought that was one of the coolest things I'd
- 10:05Speaker 2: ever heard in my life because it's unheard of, and
- 10:07Speaker 2: I knew this before I was even in the game
- 10:09Speaker 2: as a freaking act, a big time actor. I'm not
- 10:12Speaker 2: a big time please Danil, don't cut that.
- 10:16Speaker 1: But anyway, Donald, I love you calling yourself a big
- 10:21Speaker 1: time actor.
- 10:22Speaker 2: I thought that was the coolest thing I had ever
- 10:25Speaker 2: saw heard of in my life. He's doing a movie
- 10:28Speaker 2: and a TV show at the same time.
- 10:31Speaker 1: All right, But in reality, I'm just trying to cheer
- 10:33Speaker 1: you up. In reality, you know, I don't know that
- 10:36Speaker 1: that it would have been workoutable. So I'm just trying
- 10:38Speaker 1: to say, like, maybe, in the grand scheme of things,
- 10:41Speaker 1: even though you had a good experience, it's a blessing
- 10:43Speaker 1: in disguise because now if a Scrubbs rebound happens, you'll
- 10:46Speaker 1: be available and not tied up on an NBC sitcom.
- 10:50Speaker 1: We don't have to pretend you're dead. Yeah, we don't
- 10:53Speaker 1: have to be like, oh, it's too bad Turk tied anyway,
- 10:56Speaker 1: Hey Elliott, we got to get out of the way.
- 10:59Speaker 1: We got to get out of the way real quick,
- 11:01Speaker 1: because they can't get the audience sad. We can be like, oh, man,
- 11:04Speaker 1: Turk's funeral was crazy, how are you babe?
- 11:09Speaker 2: That's how it would be too. It would be just
- 11:12Speaker 2: like that. I don't think the audience would be able
- 11:14Speaker 2: to take that shit.
- 11:15Speaker 1: They'd be like, what the hell, I'm furious. No, the
- 11:18Speaker 1: audience wants turk the audience.
- 11:21Speaker 2: The audience wants Turk and JD. It's not just Turk.
- 11:25Speaker 1: They want they want jdus JD and Turk and JD.
- 11:29Speaker 2: They want JD and no, they want Turk and Turk
- 11:32Speaker 2: and JD.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Turkey JD. Look, it's Turk and Turk and JD.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Fucked up. Man.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I saw Billy Joel at MSG last night.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Oh how was that?
- 11:46Speaker 1: It was incredible?
- 11:47Speaker 8: Man.
- 11:47Speaker 1: It was his birthday, his seventy fifth birthday. Wow, seventy
- 11:52Speaker 1: five Wow. And it was this one hundred and forty
- 11:55Speaker 1: eighth show at MSG. What and he's stopping at one fifty?
- 12:00Speaker 2: Did he do Don't Go Change?
- 12:02Speaker 1: He did every hit you want to hear, except Captain Jack.
- 12:05Speaker 1: I really don't know why I didn't do Captain Jack. Billy,
- 12:08Speaker 1: if you're listening, I know you're a major fan of
- 12:10Speaker 1: the podcast.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Did he do WHOA for the longest time?
- 12:18Speaker 1: No, he didn't do it.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Oh fuck, I had It's amazing.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Yeah he did Vienna. Yeah, it's funny what he said
- 12:27Speaker 1: about Vienna. He was like, he was like, this song
- 12:29Speaker 1: was never a hit, but people seem to really love it.
- 12:32Speaker 1: So here is and he played Vienna, which I know
- 12:35Speaker 1: that went crazy.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Imagine he did do New York State of Mind.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Well, yeah, and actually it's funny. He goes, you know,
- 12:41Speaker 1: I'm moving to Florida, and whole MSG starts booing, and
- 12:45Speaker 1: he goes, he goes, I'm seventy five years old. This
- 12:48Speaker 1: is what people from New York and Long Island do.
- 12:50Speaker 1: We moved down to Florida. He goes, I'm sorry, I
- 12:52Speaker 1: still have a house here.
- 12:55Speaker 2: That's funny.
- 12:56Speaker 1: But it was funny, and then so so that he
- 12:59Speaker 1: was saying that whole anecdote, and then he just then
- 13:01Speaker 1: without like stopping, he went into New York state of Mind.
- 13:04Speaker 4: It was aw so folks like to get away. Yeah,
- 13:09Speaker 4: take a holiday copper flight to Miami Beach.
- 13:19Speaker 1: You remember when I Am hosted SNL. That was my
- 13:22Speaker 1: That was my opening monologue. Is that I sang New
- 13:24Speaker 1: Jersey state of Mind?
- 13:26Speaker 2: Oh wow, I'm in the New Jersey state of Mind.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Yeah you can. You can probably find on the interwebs
- 13:34Speaker 1: if you like that. All right, we have a very
- 13:38Speaker 1: special show today. Carrie Basha and Eliza Cooper here, Daniel,
- 13:43Speaker 1: have you figured out all the tech. Is this gonna
- 13:45Speaker 1: be like Sarah Chalker? Do they know what they're doing?
- 13:47Speaker 1: They're both ready to go. Count of said baby girl
- 13:50Speaker 1: five six.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Six say stories.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Made about a bunch of.
- 14:01Speaker 4: A storm.
- 14:06Speaker 2: So YadA, yadare get that thunderous ladies in Jena, just
- 14:20Speaker 2: give it up for Carrie Shliza.
- 14:30Speaker 3: I wonder.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Yelling you're gonna scare Carrie Bouchet away with that yelling.
- 14:34Speaker 8: Jesus, I couldn't be more scared.
- 14:37Speaker 9: So do what you will.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Wow, Carrie Bochet hasn't aged an hour? Donald, not even
- 14:43Speaker 1: a little bit.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Why's not even a smidget of it of a minute? Carry?
- 14:48Speaker 1: I know we're older than you, but how come we
- 14:50Speaker 1: aged and you didn't at all?
- 14:52Speaker 9: You're not that much older than me.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Oh my god. Carry you look like a porcelain doll.
- 14:57Speaker 9: Goodness, thank you, Daniel.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I'm not sure. Just message so we'll see where Okay
- 15:06Speaker 1: we lost Eliza. Carry. This is Daniel and.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Joel waiting and no damn like her character? What up? Carry?
- 15:16Speaker 8: Nice to meet you, my god, what's been going on
- 15:18Speaker 8: for the last fifteen years?
- 15:20Speaker 1: I can't think when the last time we saw you was.
- 15:22Speaker 1: I feel like it was when the show ended, or att.
- 15:28Speaker 9: Yeah, hi, hello, oh boy.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Oh boy, gosh, you don't look any different either. We
- 15:41Speaker 1: need to get their face cream.
- 15:42Speaker 2: I know whatever they are doing is working, and I
- 15:45Speaker 2: need to get it man ship. Hi guys looked like great.
- 15:50Speaker 5: Wow.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Have you guys seen each other in the intervening years?
- 15:54Speaker 5: No, No, it was allowed, it was too loud.
- 15:58Speaker 9: No, it's perfect, very decisive. No, we haven't seen each other.
- 16:04Speaker 9: Where do you live, Kerry? New York City?
- 16:06Speaker 5: Baby?
- 16:07Speaker 9: Where do you live?
- 16:08Speaker 5: I live in a different world.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Are you? Are you?
- 16:13Speaker 7: I live like way down, like two hours from l A.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Oh, how did last time?
- 16:18Speaker 8: Much?
- 16:18Speaker 2: Are you? We were in Malibu? Where are you?
- 16:20Speaker 5: Yeah? I was in Malibu. Then I was in Brentwood.
- 16:22Speaker 7: Then I was into Panga, then I moved here to
- 16:26Speaker 7: like past Anaheim.
- 16:29Speaker 2: You passed the Empire up in the up in the hills.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Well, we're so glad to have you, guys. We've been
- 16:34Speaker 1: talking about you and the show, and we've been daydreaming
- 16:39Speaker 1: about having you on because we haven't had any guests
- 16:41Speaker 1: from season nine. Donald and I have limited knowledge of
- 16:44Speaker 1: season nine because I left and Donald was barely there
- 16:47Speaker 1: because he was so high, and.
- 16:50Speaker 2: I still smoke a lot of Yeah, so we remember
- 16:53Speaker 2: a lot of having the conversation with me like, maybe
- 16:56Speaker 2: don't smoke so much weed because they say so much better. Yeah.
- 17:02Speaker 2: And I looked at you and I said, yeah, okay.
- 17:07Speaker 1: I've said to smoke. I've said that to you so
- 17:11Speaker 1: many times. Donald, maybe don't smoke so much weed.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, I'll be right back. I'm going to smoke
- 17:18Speaker 2: some more.
- 17:18Speaker 1: We when you guys look back on your time on
- 17:22Speaker 1: Scrub season nine, because again, because we don't really know,
- 17:25Speaker 1: and it was such a different experience for us because
- 17:27Speaker 1: the show was ending well for me, it wasn't. Donald
- 17:31Speaker 1: was sort of tiptoeing out. Was it a good experience?
- 17:34Speaker 2: Did you?
- 17:34Speaker 1: Did you have fun?
- 17:36Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 17:36Speaker 8: I would love to be so honest with you. We'll
- 17:40Speaker 8: see how that goes. But I am terrified of you guys.
- 17:45Speaker 8: You guys scare the ship out of me. And you
- 17:47Speaker 8: scared the ship out of me then, really, Oh my god, you.
- 17:52Speaker 9: Guys are so scary.
- 17:53Speaker 5: You know why.
- 17:54Speaker 9: It's because you.
- 17:56Speaker 8: Guys are so funny, and that is language I simply
- 18:01Speaker 8: do not speak nice. You're very all you guys are.
- 18:07Speaker 8: You guys are like true comedians and I learned so
- 18:10Speaker 8: much while I was on that show. But like when
- 18:12Speaker 8: I took improv class in college, the main thing I
- 18:15Speaker 8: took away from it was they were like always like
- 18:18Speaker 8: always be honest with like with where you are. If
- 18:21Speaker 8: your responses is your character, are how you're honestly feeling,
- 18:24Speaker 8: then you can't go wrong. So basically all of my
- 18:26Speaker 8: improv characters would just end up crying.
- 18:29Speaker 9: They're just crash because.
- 18:30Speaker 8: That's always how I felt when I had to do improv,
- 18:34Speaker 8: And truly, I feel like that was really helpful to
- 18:37Speaker 8: play Lucy in season nine. I feel like her thing
- 18:41Speaker 8: was like she was so pure and wholesome, and when
- 18:46Speaker 8: she ran into the realities of life and like being
- 18:51Speaker 8: a doctor, it was like too overwhelming. And if she
- 18:54Speaker 8: was ever funny, it was because of this like conflict
- 18:58Speaker 8: between her like purity and you know this like sort
- 19:03Speaker 8: of like rough world that wasn't ready for her.
- 19:07Speaker 2: I'm gonna tell you something right now, Lucy wasn't that pure.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Hold on now, Hold.
- 19:14Speaker 8: Just she may have had an unwholesome love of horses.
- 19:17Speaker 8: But other than that, if.
- 19:21Speaker 2: You've watched the show since you've been on it, but
- 19:23Speaker 2: Lucy was yo, Lucy did some crazy. There's bachelor bachelorette
- 19:27Speaker 2: party ship. There's like a watch of things that this
- 19:30Speaker 2: young lady Cole had done. Lucy, this this wholesome ship
- 19:34Speaker 2: was like, yeah, she loves horses, but yo, she talks
- 19:38Speaker 2: on the phone to her mom or no to her
- 19:40Speaker 2: dad while having sex with her boyfriend. Lucy wasn't wholesome.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Lucy wasn't wholesome.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Every every episode, every episode opens with Lucy and Cole
- 19:52Speaker 1: having sex, or Lucy and Cole talking about having sex.
- 19:56Speaker 8: Well, okay, so just having sex doesn't mean you unwholesome.
- 20:01Speaker 1: No, No, that's true.
- 20:04Speaker 2: That's true.
- 20:04Speaker 9: I'm not gonna no judgment Donald floodshaming.
- 20:09Speaker 1: We noticed that we noticed that there was some mimicking
- 20:12Speaker 1: of couples as they moved into nine, Like, you know,
- 20:15Speaker 1: because Elliott was sort of wacky with her sexuality and
- 20:20Speaker 1: and and then of course Cox and Jordan were always
- 20:24Speaker 1: so mean to each other, kind of like Denise and
- 20:26Speaker 1: Drew kind of took over that.
- 20:28Speaker 2: One thing.
- 20:29Speaker 1: That's one thing we saw as we've been watching this
- 20:31Speaker 1: is that they were sort of trying to echo some
- 20:33Speaker 1: of the some of the couplings that had worked in
- 20:36Speaker 1: the first incarnation.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Well, also Elijah, you were around season seven, eight and nine, right,
- 20:45Speaker 2: and so right.
- 20:47Speaker 5: You didn't I think, yes, yes, yes, yes, yeah.
- 20:50Speaker 2: And so you're coming into this as the new and
- 20:54Speaker 2: you were reoccurring, and now you're the one of the
- 20:57Speaker 2: stars of the show and one that story's going to
- 21:00Speaker 2: follow that. How did that? How was that for you?
- 21:04Speaker 7: It felt like it just all happened so quickly, like
- 21:06Speaker 7: I didn't even get a chance to like process it
- 21:08Speaker 7: in the moment because it was like, okay and reoccurring,
- 21:11Speaker 7: now you're now you're a series regular, and then it
- 21:14Speaker 7: was just so everything was so quick. I felt like
- 21:16Speaker 7: I didn't process the entire experience until, like, I don't know,
- 21:20Speaker 7: like a year ago, yeah, because there was so much
- 21:25Speaker 7: about I don't know. I don't know if I was
- 21:27Speaker 7: scared of you, guys.
- 21:28Speaker 5: I was just kind of.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Like, nah, there's no way you were.
- 21:31Speaker 5: I was observing.
- 21:32Speaker 2: I was observe.
- 21:34Speaker 1: I thought you were very tough even when I met you,
- 21:36Speaker 1: like when you know, when you first joined us, if
- 21:39Speaker 1: you were scared of us or intimidated by us, you
- 21:41Speaker 1: hit it well. I thought that you like jumped right in,
- 21:43Speaker 1: and especially when you joined us whatever it was season.
- 21:46Speaker 7: Seven, Yeah, no, I don't think it didn't know, there
- 21:48Speaker 7: wasn't a it wasn't a fear. But then again, I
- 21:51Speaker 7: feel like I mask most fear with being really tough
- 21:54Speaker 7: when really I'm just you know, crumbling inside.
- 21:56Speaker 1: But was this your first big was joining scrubs? Your
- 22:00Speaker 1: first big job?
- 22:01Speaker 5: It was my second big job.
- 22:02Speaker 7: The first one was an HBO show that didn't see
- 22:06Speaker 7: the light of day because of a million reasons. And
- 22:08Speaker 7: then then there was and I went straight into Scrubs.
- 22:12Speaker 1: And then you've been working. You worked like crazy, then
- 22:14Speaker 1: you really like yeah, took off and.
- 22:17Speaker 7: Then there was a strike and then it didn't work.
- 22:21Speaker 9: Now I'm just drawing.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Rabbits, beautiful rabbits. Are you making like a sequel to
- 22:27Speaker 2: Watership Down?
- 22:28Speaker 5: No, it's just I don't they all face the same direction?
- 22:31Speaker 2: Mild I think they do.
- 22:32Speaker 7: Yeah, I have a it's a whole thing. It's just
- 22:34Speaker 7: it's a meditation anyway. But no, I there was a
- 22:38Speaker 7: moment I remember, Zach, when I don't know, you said
- 22:42Speaker 7: something to me like the first day I was there,
- 22:44Speaker 7: and I don't think I've ever been more like and
- 22:47Speaker 7: so then from from that point forward, I was like, Okay,
- 22:51Speaker 7: just don't fuck up and.
- 22:52Speaker 1: What did I say.
- 22:53Speaker 2: I hope, I hope you wasn't like, don't fuck up.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I hope it wasn't like, don't fuck up. The whole
- 22:58Speaker 1: thing's riding on you.
- 23:00Speaker 5: No.
- 23:00Speaker 9: I don't remember what it was that you said.
- 23:02Speaker 7: I mean, there was a few things that you said,
- 23:04Speaker 7: but then I don't remember that specific one.
- 23:07Speaker 5: But I remember it being a moment.
- 23:08Speaker 7: Of like, oh, okay, I've got to keep my shit together.
- 23:11Speaker 5: And then I was just you know.
- 23:13Speaker 2: That was all I was.
- 23:15Speaker 1: I was. I think I was trying to imagine. I
- 23:17Speaker 1: was trying to be inspiring, and I knew that they
- 23:19Speaker 1: were going to build the show around you and a
- 23:21Speaker 1: couple others, and I think I was probably trying to
- 23:23Speaker 1: give advice because they were going to bring in Carrie,
- 23:26Speaker 1: and but you were, like, you were doing so well
- 23:28Speaker 1: in the original in seven and eight that I knew
- 23:31Speaker 1: that they were going to be you were going to
- 23:33Speaker 1: be one of the people they built it around. So
- 23:34Speaker 1: I was probably trying to like be you were, and
- 23:37Speaker 1: you were giving you advice. I hate to think that
- 23:39Speaker 1: it was that it's scary.
- 23:41Speaker 7: No, no, no, no, it was. I think it was.
- 23:43Speaker 7: It was just it was I learned more on that show. Like,
- 23:47Speaker 7: I feel like that was more than getting my BFA and.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Acting on that show.
- 23:52Speaker 7: And yeah, I like, I remember one time that Bill
- 23:57Speaker 7: Lawrence grabbed the back of some sides and was like, oh,
- 23:59Speaker 7: you know, we need a connecting scene that isn't in
- 24:02Speaker 7: the street. You just like wrote it on the back
- 24:04Speaker 7: of some sides and we had to go shoot it
- 24:05Speaker 7: in like twenty minutes, and I was like.
- 24:07Speaker 5: Oh okay, oh okay.
- 24:08Speaker 7: And then any show after that just felt like, Oh,
- 24:10Speaker 7: I can do anything, I can do that.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember, I remember the day Bill came down.
- 24:15Speaker 2: He came from the writer's room. This is season seven.
- 24:17Speaker 2: He walks into the writers he walks in from the
- 24:19Speaker 2: writer's room. You and the rest of the cats are
- 24:24Speaker 2: standing there with me, you guys and Zach and we're
- 24:26Speaker 2: all just hanging out, chilling and uh. And Bill comes
- 24:31Speaker 2: in and he starts giving everybody so this is what's
- 24:34Speaker 2: gonna happen. And we're all clicked up like in our
- 24:36Speaker 2: own little clicks. And when he says this is what's
- 24:39Speaker 2: gonna happen, it shifted the dynamic of our little group,
- 24:43Speaker 2: like everybody kind of split off, right. So I remember
- 24:47Speaker 2: when Bill came in and he was like, all right,
- 24:49Speaker 2: so Eliza Lee, you two are gonna date. And you
- 24:53Speaker 2: guys were on two separate sides of the room, and
- 24:56Speaker 2: then all of a sudden, it was like okay, and
- 24:58Speaker 2: then like all of the all the story right there
- 25:01Speaker 2: was being unfolded in front of us, and it was like,
- 25:03Speaker 2: all right, so you guys gotta let's jump into what
- 25:07Speaker 2: what the show is? I just remember, I remember that
- 25:09Speaker 2: is something Bill would do. You would think it's something
- 25:12Speaker 2: completely different, and then all of a sudden, out of nowhere,
- 25:15Speaker 2: you get a page and you're like, wait a second,
- 25:17Speaker 2: where the fuck did this come from?
- 25:19Speaker 7: Right?
- 25:19Speaker 2: For me, it's fine because I don't read the script anyway,
- 25:22Speaker 2: but I can't imagine for for actors, you know, for actors.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Actors that do take the time to read the script intimidating.
- 25:29Speaker 2: It must it must be very intimidating.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Yeah, and carry this was extremely hard for you, obviously,
- 25:33Speaker 1: because you know, audiences had so had, you know, eight
- 25:37Speaker 1: years of falling in love with JD. And there was
- 25:41Speaker 1: a big ask to step into those shoes. I don't
- 25:44Speaker 1: mean me, I mean the character people were like, okay,
- 25:47Speaker 1: it's a young girl now, like you know, with their
- 25:50Speaker 1: arms crossed, like let's see. You know, I feel I feel,
- 25:53Speaker 1: as we've been watching it back, like what an intimidating
- 25:57Speaker 1: position to step into.
- 25:59Speaker 9: Did you that at the time, Yes, definitely.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:05Speaker 8: It was one of my first acting jobs. Also, I
- 26:09Speaker 8: you know, grew up doing theater and that's where most
- 26:11Speaker 8: of my experience had been.
- 26:13Speaker 5: And so.
- 26:16Speaker 8: Like, aside from the pressures of coming into this like
- 26:21Speaker 8: very big, popular show and with some enormous shoes to fill,
- 26:26Speaker 8: there was also like I was still learning how like
- 26:30Speaker 8: the camera stuff worked. I remember so Mike Spiller. Spiller
- 26:33Speaker 8: directed this episode we're talking about our two lives, and
- 26:37Speaker 8: I don't think it was in this episode, but there
- 26:39Speaker 8: was one episode where he's like, okay, cool, could we
- 26:41Speaker 8: like have you like run in here, and like, I
- 26:43Speaker 8: don't know, can you like slide across this desk?
- 26:45Speaker 9: And then like crouch down. I was like, I don't know,
- 26:47Speaker 9: let's give it a try.
- 26:47Speaker 8: So I do it, and like a couple of pencils
- 26:50Speaker 8: goes flying and it looks awesome, and I'm like crouching
- 26:53Speaker 8: down and he's like great, awesome, and I'm like.
- 26:56Speaker 9: Yeah, double high five and he goes and.
- 27:00Speaker 8: He goes, yeah, that's not what I was doing. I
- 27:03Speaker 8: wasn't doing it, and I was like.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Sorry, oh, he was holding up his he was holding
- 27:09Speaker 1: up his hands the shots.
- 27:12Speaker 9: Like that camera thing.
- 27:14Speaker 8: And then everybody made fun of him because they were like,
- 27:17Speaker 8: that's a cheesy thing to do.
- 27:21Speaker 1: It's not a cheesy thing to do.
- 27:23Speaker 2: I'm sorry, you fucking directors. I love you, guys. Put
- 27:27Speaker 2: all of this ship with the fucking the two fingers,
- 27:30Speaker 2: like this is the couch, so we're gonna hold it
- 27:32Speaker 2: here and do the two and then we're gonna chomp
- 27:34Speaker 2: it down and then I wanna do some ship like
- 27:35Speaker 2: this and this ship get the fuck out of here,
- 27:38Speaker 2: get the fuck on it.
- 27:39Speaker 1: When I say something in defense of the DDA, yes,
- 27:43Speaker 1: you're not doing it to look cool in the picture.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Plenty things you're doing it to look cool.
- 27:48Speaker 1: You're doing it to show the crew where you want
- 27:50Speaker 1: the map box, where you want to put the camera.
- 27:52Speaker 1: And it's very It helps tell the crew like I
- 27:54Speaker 1: think it's here, and then we're gonna come over here
- 27:56Speaker 1: and do this and then we have this this that.
- 27:58Speaker 1: It's just a way to communicate easily with the crew.
- 28:01Speaker 1: It's not like for show.
- 28:02Speaker 8: But listen, also, if somebody enthusiastically gives you a double
- 28:06Speaker 8: high five.
- 28:07Speaker 9: I think you just have to accept it.
- 28:09Speaker 2: That was cringe on Mike Spiller's part. Spiller could have
- 28:12Speaker 2: just said looking, hell yeah, high five right.
- 28:15Speaker 8: I ran into him years later at a party and
- 28:18Speaker 8: I retold him that story, hoping that with the intervening
- 28:22Speaker 8: time he had come to see the humor in it.
- 28:24Speaker 9: And he did not.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Oh my god, he did a sweetheart. He's a sweetheart. Yeah,
- 28:29Speaker 1: so sweet had we've had him on, right, guys, we
- 28:32Speaker 1: had him back on, yeah, I said, saw him recently.
- 28:36Speaker 1: All right, we should take a break and then talk
- 28:38Speaker 1: all about this crazy fucking episode that I just don't understand.
- 28:41Speaker 1: This episode was like written in nineteen seventy nine. Turk
- 28:43Speaker 1: has never seen a lesbian. I'm really confused. I'm really
- 28:47Speaker 1: confused by this episode. Joelle will help steer us through
- 28:51Speaker 1: the conversation of how Turk is excited to meet his
- 28:55Speaker 1: first lesbian.
- 28:56Speaker 2: I love the fact that Denise says, how queer though
- 29:00Speaker 2: I be right back.
- 29:03Speaker 1: We'll be back, and we're back. Yes, they're all fake.
- 29:15Speaker 1: The commercials here, we don't do for real. Sarah Chalk
- 29:18Speaker 1: was really flustered by that. She thought that we were
- 29:20Speaker 1: going to sit here for the length of two minutes
- 29:23Speaker 1: and just chat kind of like it was like it
- 29:26Speaker 1: was a live talk show. Like she thought, like, okay,
- 29:29Speaker 1: be while we're in break, what should we talk about?
- 29:36Speaker 1: All right? Our tchoe lies. Thank you ladies for joining us.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Lucy's mom doesn't like Cole. We learned again the show
- 29:42Speaker 1: always kind of starts off. One thing we've learned from
- 29:45Speaker 1: watching the show. You guys probably haven't seen them all
- 29:48Speaker 1: in a while, but the show does seem to usually
- 29:50Speaker 1: start off with Lucy and Cole and some conversation about
- 29:53Speaker 1: their sex life, which we learned is very, very very
- 29:58Speaker 1: important to both of them.
- 30:00Speaker 2: You've got they have, they have a very they communicate well,
- 30:04Speaker 2: they are very very.
- 30:06Speaker 1: But you know what's funny is that, Carrie, there's nothing
- 30:09Speaker 1: redeemable about Dave's character at all. I mean so redeemable.
- 30:14Speaker 1: So far. He's very handsome, but so far he's just
- 30:18Speaker 1: an idiot.
- 30:22Speaker 9: Well, by the.
- 30:23Speaker 8: End of this episode, I think he displays some admirable rights.
- 30:29Speaker 2: That's his first time.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe this is the beginning of his arc where
- 30:32Speaker 1: he changes. Because we've been waiting for them to be
- 30:34Speaker 1: something about Dave Franco's character. That was like, what is
- 30:39Speaker 1: to do?
- 30:39Speaker 8: But do you find him unappealing all of his idiocy?
- 30:44Speaker 8: He's hilarious.
- 30:46Speaker 1: We the we the audience find him charming as hell.
- 30:50Speaker 1: But it's hard we have.
- 30:52Speaker 2: The audience find him as he's the nemesis right now.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Everybody that we spoke to is like, he's the neo
- 30:59Speaker 2: Patrick Harris character from the What's That show? How I
- 31:03Speaker 2: Met Your Mother? He's that character. He's the one that
- 31:06Speaker 2: everybody's like, I fucking hate this guy, Dude, I fucking
- 31:09Speaker 2: hate him. There's nothing redeemable about him.
- 31:11Speaker 8: The audience or the characters.
- 31:15Speaker 2: The audience is saying this. They're like, I love Dave
- 31:18Speaker 2: Franco and he's playing this character so well that I
- 31:21Speaker 2: fucking hate Cole. That's what we learned.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I think Carry disagrees. Carrie thinks that the audience.
- 31:27Speaker 8: Really watch I watch, I go watch Dave Franco do
- 31:30Speaker 8: that cold thing all day long. I think it's the
- 31:33Speaker 8: funniest fucking ship in the whole world.
- 31:35Speaker 2: You know what I said, the exact same thing, And.
- 31:39Speaker 8: What I love about it is that I don't I
- 31:41Speaker 8: don't need to find him redeemable. I don't need him
- 31:45Speaker 8: to be like likable, I mean me personally. I just
- 31:49Speaker 8: think it's so hilarious.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Yeah, he's definitely very good at playing that guy. Denise
- 31:56Speaker 1: really really is upset that that drew that he loves her.
- 32:01Speaker 5: Yeah, that was that was really rough for her. Yeah,
- 32:04Speaker 5: I remember how rough that was for her.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Really threw her.
- 32:08Speaker 7: I feel like there was so much that Denise had
- 32:10Speaker 7: an unpacked in her life, just so much she needed
- 32:14Speaker 7: to go on a fucking pilgrimage.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Well, the two of the two of them, Like, it's
- 32:19Speaker 2: like he went for a walk about and came back thinking,
- 32:22Speaker 2: you know what, I'm just a fucked up person, and
- 32:26Speaker 2: Denise is like, yeah, you know what, but it kind
- 32:28Speaker 2: of turns me on, Yeah, because I'm fucked up too.
- 32:31Speaker 7: But she likes broken she likes broken men, so she
- 32:35Speaker 7: she was like, yeah, okay, he's got.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Some art, feels betrayed that he's found love for her
- 32:41Speaker 1: and now feels super angry about it.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:43Speaker 7: Yeah, again she's got There's not enough therapy in the
- 32:46Speaker 7: world for Denise. She needs like ayahuasca, that's.
- 32:51Speaker 5: Actually keemy therapy.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Where did I just hear this? Is this something that
- 32:55Speaker 2: was just on the show.
- 32:56Speaker 1: No it's very popular in the culture. Right now, is
- 32:59Speaker 1: keymine apiece all you're thinking about.
- 33:01Speaker 2: I don't know what kem is that the K hole.
- 33:05Speaker 1: One can go into a K hole. But drugs like
- 33:07Speaker 1: ketymine are being used. They're finding it helpful for people
- 33:10Speaker 1: with depression and PTSD and the like. You know, done
- 33:14Speaker 1: with a doctor under supervision. The right dosage is people
- 33:18Speaker 1: are getting really good results from from from using it
- 33:21Speaker 1: in a clinical setting.
- 33:22Speaker 8: There's a great book Michael Polland wrote called how to
- 33:25Speaker 8: Change Your Mind.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Yes, there you go, audience, if you're interested, how to
- 33:28Speaker 1: change your mind, and.
- 33:29Speaker 9: It's go or just go to Peru and.
- 33:32Speaker 1: Do as doctors. Doctors we say, do it under clinical.
- 33:41Speaker 9: Supervision please, or just lick a toad, Lick any.
- 33:47Speaker 1: Toad, see what happens to give it to you.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Is this true?
- 33:52Speaker 9: No?
- 33:52Speaker 8: No, there's like a like a secretion of a particular
- 33:55Speaker 8: toad that you like, cook down.
- 33:57Speaker 1: And you know that you can elect certain toads and
- 33:59Speaker 1: you trip out.
- 34:01Speaker 7: No, I thought could go Donald, So outside, go outside, gonna.
- 34:09Speaker 8: Smoke some more weed, find a toad, then find the toad.
- 34:14Speaker 1: All right, So Denise doesn't want to hear it. Okay,
- 34:18Speaker 1: Now this is crazy. Let's just go into that.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Let me get my fucking note. Ship.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Oh it's about time on the show.
- 34:25Speaker 2: A free style in this ship, Yo, Cole can read
- 34:28Speaker 2: Lucy like the back of a DVD cover, meaning that
- 34:31Speaker 2: let's go back. So this is very important for that.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Gotta laugh, okay, because what the fuck is a DVD?
- 34:38Speaker 1: Well, back in the day there were DVDs. And and
- 34:41Speaker 1: then he says that she has very clear tells. When
- 34:44Speaker 1: she bites her hair, she's lying when she addressed her
- 34:49Speaker 1: brass trap. What's that one.
- 34:51Speaker 9: I'm about to yell at him.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Yeah, she's about to yell at him. What is that
- 34:55Speaker 1: to do with the back of a DVD cover? I'm
- 34:57Speaker 1: not sure.
- 34:58Speaker 8: I think the stint of Cole's reading ability and interest.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Book got it, Kerrie.
- 35:08Speaker 7: I was impressed by the the I don't know why
- 35:10Speaker 7: I was impressed by the broad strap adjustment, because I
- 35:13Speaker 7: feel like if that had been me having to do that.
- 35:15Speaker 5: I would have liked been like, wait, what's the.
- 35:17Speaker 9: Best way to do that? And you just did it
- 35:18Speaker 9: so it was so natural. Thank you so much.
- 35:22Speaker 5: I had a real moment of like, huh, she.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Just could work acting school, yea at Northwestern.
- 35:31Speaker 8: I was also a mime, so I maybe wasn't even
- 35:34Speaker 8: wearing a bra I'm such an accomplished mine out mime
- 35:39Speaker 8: out were you a I was a semi professional mime.
- 35:48Speaker 8: I was in the mime company in Northwestern and Zach,
- 35:50Speaker 8: I don't know if you're aware, but it was extremely cool.
- 35:54Speaker 8: It was very cool to be a mime.
- 35:56Speaker 2: I do remember this.
- 35:58Speaker 5: You lead with this A lot lead there you do?
- 36:01Speaker 2: Yes you died? Was once a mime.
- 36:04Speaker 8: I feel it's noteworthy and it's really excellent acting training.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Honestly, can you do some just can you pretend you're
- 36:11Speaker 1: in a box right now?
- 36:11Speaker 8: No, dude, come on, I wish I could, but mime
- 36:14Speaker 8: is a serious art form. I cannot make jokes here.
- 36:21Speaker 2: That's like saying to me, won't you I can't.
- 36:24Speaker 1: Imagine what ad? What were you going to say? Carry?
- 36:28Speaker 9: Do you animate things?
- 36:30Speaker 1: Yes?
- 36:31Speaker 2: I don't know what you're talking about.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Donald's passion is stop motion animation, and you can see
- 36:36Speaker 1: in the back of his screen there he's got lots
- 36:38Speaker 1: of tools for stop animation.
- 36:41Speaker 9: Really, that's so cool.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Yeah, it looks like he's doing something in the cockpit.
- 36:46Speaker 5: I knew this. I mean, he leads with that a
- 36:48Speaker 5: lot too.
- 36:50Speaker 1: If you follow Donald on Instagram, it's all he posts
- 36:53Speaker 1: is his work.
- 36:54Speaker 8: Well, stop motion animation, that's so exciting. I made a
- 36:58Speaker 8: little stop motion and this was part of the set
- 37:01Speaker 8: from my stop motion.
- 37:03Speaker 9: It's just a little house.
- 37:04Speaker 2: What stop motion animation did you do?
- 37:06Speaker 9: Oh?
- 37:06Speaker 8: It's just no. No, it's like a little short film
- 37:08Speaker 8: I made. I'll send it to you later.
- 37:10Speaker 5: Cute.
- 37:11Speaker 1: You guys can bond over that.
- 37:13Speaker 9: I would love to, dude.
- 37:15Speaker 2: Cole's mom is a bounty hunter. Comes from a long
- 37:19Speaker 2: line of bounty hunters. I laughed at that.
- 37:21Speaker 9: I did too, and we just really they really glossed
- 37:24Speaker 9: over that one. I would have liked a little more
- 37:26Speaker 9: backstory on that.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I did not know this. Yeah, right next year.
- 37:35Speaker 2: Let's take a break.
- 37:36Speaker 1: We'll be right back after these fine words. What do
- 37:45Speaker 1: you think the deal was with with Turk being so
- 37:48Speaker 1: excited to meet a lesbian?
- 37:52Speaker 2: So? So, I think Turk is married, right, and you're married.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Your sex life is usually what your wife decides the
- 38:06Speaker 2: sex life is going to be, you know what I mean?
- 38:08Speaker 2: Like so or your spouse is, at least in my situation, Okay,
- 38:13Speaker 2: what my let me let's put it that way.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Let's speak for yourself. I think it'll be important in
- 38:17Speaker 1: this conversation.
- 38:18Speaker 2: And I think I think I think that's what's going
- 38:22Speaker 2: on with Turk and Turk.
- 38:24Speaker 1: Didn't you feel it was very dated? Didn't you feel
- 38:26Speaker 1: it was very dated to be like, oh my god,
- 38:29Speaker 1: I think it felt very dated. It felt like it's
- 38:32Speaker 1: a shitcomb from the eighties, to be like the lesbianism
- 38:36Speaker 1: was so taboo and that these these grown ass men
- 38:38Speaker 1: were so excited.
- 38:39Speaker 2: To me, I didn't look at it. I didn't look
- 38:41Speaker 2: at it as it was so taboo. I think I
- 38:43Speaker 2: was looking at it as these two were turned on.
- 38:45Speaker 2: And because of their lifestyle, they don't see it all
- 38:49Speaker 2: the time. So when they did see it, they were
- 38:51Speaker 2: like this and and and they're both hot. Fuck yeah,
- 38:54Speaker 2: let's let's this is the best day of my life.
- 38:56Speaker 2: I'm in the hospital looking at dead people, but now
- 38:58Speaker 2: I got two hot lesbians in here.
- 39:00Speaker 1: I just felt like I to me, it felt very
- 39:02Speaker 1: dated for what was the year nine ish oh nine?
- 39:08Speaker 1: It felt like so like, Joelle, what are your thoughts on?
- 39:11Speaker 1: Were you surprised that it was so that's what?
- 39:14Speaker 5: I'm gay and all my friends are gay, so I'm like,
- 39:16Speaker 5: what's happening here.
- 39:17Speaker 2: This is very strange.
- 39:18Speaker 3: I didn't understand it definitely felt I mean, the L
- 39:22Speaker 3: words on TV at this point, you've got queer eye,
- 39:25Speaker 3: Like there's gay people everywhere on TV at this point,
- 39:28Speaker 3: and this is a year before PROP eight, So it's
- 39:33Speaker 3: just like, as a timing wise, situation is just a
- 39:36Speaker 3: little bit strange.
- 39:37Speaker 1: I was just surprised they were so giddy to meet
- 39:39Speaker 1: a lesbian couple, Like, like, it just felt like surprising
- 39:42Speaker 1: to me for two thousand and nine or whatever. It was, Ladies,
- 39:45Speaker 1: your thoughts, I yeah.
- 39:48Speaker 7: It was a little I mean, it was strikes me
- 39:51Speaker 7: as unprofessional.
- 39:53Speaker 9: Really, I think it was kind of that's more.
- 39:55Speaker 2: That's more it. Yeah, But I mean, these guys aren't
- 39:59Speaker 2: These guys are never professional on this show. We've learned
- 40:01Speaker 2: that the things that they do are very unprofessional.
- 40:04Speaker 1: But well, Tom, that's more it.
- 40:06Speaker 2: It's it's the fact that these guys are so unprofessional
- 40:09Speaker 2: about it, not that that they're giddy.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Todd literally doesn't know what to say, and he's salting,
- 40:15Speaker 1: I'm doctor lesbian. I'll be your lesbian.
- 40:20Speaker 7: I threw out a queer in there, Yeah you did.
- 40:24Speaker 9: He's just off the cuff, off the cuff.
- 40:27Speaker 1: That's queer.
- 40:28Speaker 6: That's queer, or I called him a queer for kissing you,
- 40:31Speaker 6: for kissing me Lucy's ring so Cox finds a cheat sheet.
- 40:36Speaker 6: Here's the big plot point. Cox finds a cheat sheet
- 40:39Speaker 6: and the all the guys, it's like the breakfast Club.
- 40:42Speaker 6: They're all being forced to stay in the classroom until
- 40:46Speaker 6: the truth comes out. And and that's didn't I sort
- 40:52Speaker 6: of thought of the breakfast club.
- 40:53Speaker 2: When when that's perfect analogy.
- 40:55Speaker 1: Yeah, all the different types of people. Nikki Whelans really
- 40:59Speaker 1: got screwed. She didn't really get much of a part.
- 41:01Speaker 1: I don't remember that. She doesn't have much to say ever,
- 41:04Speaker 1: and she's so.
- 41:05Speaker 2: Good when she does speak. It's really shocking.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Yeah, she's funny, and they just kind of throw her
- 41:09Speaker 1: that she's dating Trang who that's his name, I believe right.
- 41:14Speaker 5: I don't know if I ever knew his name.
- 41:16Speaker 2: That's It's hilarious, bro babe, you're smothering me. That was
- 41:20Speaker 2: very funny.
- 41:22Speaker 1: Come on, that's funny. And we learned that he's something
- 41:27Speaker 1: about he absorbed his sister in the uterus.
- 41:30Speaker 5: Yep, yep, I caught that too.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Okay, so uh, and Lucy's ring tone is Charles in Charge.
- 41:41Speaker 1: You guys probably don't even know what Charles in Charge
- 41:43Speaker 1: is because it's before your time, but.
- 41:44Speaker 9: I remember I definitely know what it is.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Okay, they know.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Everybody know Nicole.
- 41:52Speaker 9: I was just saying Toole Egert. I was like, she's
- 41:54Speaker 9: she's so pretty.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Oh my god. I had the biggest crush. I'm sure
- 41:58Speaker 1: I've mentioned this on the podcast, but Nicole was my
- 42:00Speaker 1: was my biggest childhood cross.
- 42:02Speaker 5: I wanted to look like her. I wanted to look
- 42:04Speaker 5: like her.
- 42:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm sure that every I don't know. I just
- 42:08Speaker 1: she was. She was the prettiest ever Nicole Eggert. She
- 42:13Speaker 1: was almost on the show, I think, but she no. Yeah,
- 42:17Speaker 1: I remember them talking to her about doing a cameo really. Yeah.
- 42:23Speaker 1: It may have been the part that Amy Smart took
- 42:27Speaker 1: or something I forgot. It was one of those sort
- 42:28Speaker 1: of love interests for JD characters.
- 42:31Speaker 2: Drew's married plot twist.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Drew is mad about that.
- 42:36Speaker 5: Yeah, and when I watched that.
- 42:37Speaker 2: For it, I didn't know. Look, Okay, So my favorite
- 42:43Speaker 2: couple on the show is Drew and Denise. Maybe it's
- 42:46Speaker 2: because they remind me of of Cox and Jordan so much.
- 42:49Speaker 2: I just like the dynamic that they have the the
- 42:52Speaker 2: fuck you fuck you, I love you, I love you.
- 42:54Speaker 2: I like that. I like that type of That's kind
- 42:57Speaker 2: of like how me and my wife are. We give
- 42:58Speaker 2: each other shit, but it's all in love, right. What
- 43:01Speaker 2: was it like working with Mike?
- 43:03Speaker 1: Yeah, you guys had a really good chemistry.
- 43:05Speaker 7: I know, he was fun, he was great. He was
- 43:08Speaker 7: he was very professional, and I think we.
- 43:12Speaker 9: Just we just got it.
- 43:13Speaker 7: We got what our what our thing was, and we
- 43:16Speaker 7: both just fell into it really easily, and he was
- 43:21Speaker 7: great to work with.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Was did you guys all socialize outside because Donald?
- 43:24Speaker 2: Yeah, they did, because they didn't invite my end.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Donald Donald inted me if you did, stop yelling. You're yelling,
- 43:31Speaker 1: Donald farbaring some emotions about not being invited to some
- 43:35Speaker 1: of the young cast members get togethers.
- 43:38Speaker 2: And I'm not that much older than y'all.
- 43:41Speaker 9: I don't think.
- 43:41Speaker 2: I think it's guy. I called him Michael Moseley, but.
- 43:44Speaker 8: I remember one I remember one party Mike Moseley through,
- 43:48Speaker 8: like a Christmas party, and I met his dog and
- 43:52Speaker 8: he told me that he had aspirations of training his
- 43:54Speaker 8: dog to be a movie dog. And then years later
- 43:58Speaker 8: I ran into him and I was like, how's your dog,
- 44:01Speaker 8: and he was like, oh, oh yeah, I got to
- 44:03Speaker 8: show you this thing. And he showed me like a
- 44:05Speaker 8: short film he'd made where the dog is like playing
- 44:08Speaker 8: all the parts and the dog has like a little
- 44:11Speaker 8: kerchief and then and then the dog has like a
- 44:14Speaker 8: military cap and it barks, and then the subtitles are
- 44:17Speaker 8: like show me your papers, ma'am and then like it's
- 44:20Speaker 8: the dog in a kership. Are you are you my
- 44:26Speaker 8: You're my son, my child? And I was like, oh
- 44:30Speaker 8: my god, Mike, when you said you wanted your dog
- 44:33Speaker 8: to be a movie dog, this was not at all
- 44:35Speaker 8: when I.
- 44:36Speaker 1: Was pictured, Wow, he did the work.
- 44:38Speaker 5: He did.
- 44:40Speaker 9: Yes, it's like a not tour. Uh.
- 44:44Speaker 1: Well, we got to have Mike on and remind him
- 44:46Speaker 1: to bring his short film that maybe we can screen
- 44:48Speaker 1: a piece of it on the podcast.
- 44:50Speaker 5: Just have the dog one available, but I got the dog.
- 44:59Speaker 1: If Mike's not available, well book the Dog please, thank you,
- 45:02Speaker 1: thank you.
- 45:03Speaker 2: Eliza.
- 45:03Speaker 1: All right. So there's a moment where they're trying to
- 45:06Speaker 1: find out more about the woman who's sick and they
- 45:10Speaker 1: go to the Internet and we think it's going to
- 45:13Speaker 1: be like a JD moment, but Cox is like I'm
- 45:16Speaker 1: not like your friend Dorian, I don't roll like that.
- 45:19Speaker 1: So Turk has to go to the internet alone and
- 45:22Speaker 1: he finds out that the woman used to be heavy
- 45:28Speaker 1: and she doesn't want her girlfriend to see her like
- 45:31Speaker 1: that if she takes steroids. That's why she's resistant to
- 45:34Speaker 1: taking the steroids. And Turk is fascinated that the word,
- 45:39Speaker 1: the correct terminology is partner. This is another example. I mean,
- 45:42Speaker 1: I was like, this is so weird that this is
- 45:44Speaker 1: so that this is two thousand and nine. Turk's like, oh,
- 45:48Speaker 1: it's partner. Lucy confesses that she's the one who cheated,
- 45:56Speaker 1: probably because the pressure from her mom, who's really frushing
- 46:02Speaker 1: her to succeed.
- 46:05Speaker 9: It's always the mother's fault, that's what I've learned.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Yes, in this case, your mom. But but just like
- 46:11Speaker 1: the Breakfast Club kids, they've now all bonded and they
- 46:14Speaker 1: all stick together and they don't out Lucy. I was
- 46:17Speaker 1: hoping the letter, Yeah, when they write a letter, and
- 46:23Speaker 1: they should, they should end with Lucy with their hands up.
- 46:26Speaker 2: In the air, like, hey, you guys have no idea
- 46:31Speaker 2: what the breakfast Club is? Do you have.
- 46:33Speaker 1: You guys seen the Breakfast Club? Well, Carrie Touche is
- 46:38Speaker 1: looking like she's never even heard of the title.
- 46:41Speaker 9: No, I just don't remember the ending.
- 46:44Speaker 1: And then the episode ends to a great Alexi Murdoch
- 46:47Speaker 1: song All My Days, which is a beautiful song. That
- 46:50Speaker 1: was that was redeemable.
- 46:52Speaker 2: Denise tells uh Drew she loves him.
- 46:55Speaker 1: Yes, that's when the song kicks in.
- 46:58Speaker 8: Yeah, she bad to cheat in med school.
- 47:01Speaker 9: Wouldn't you get thrown out for that?
- 47:03Speaker 1: Yes, I'm sure, but no one outs you.
- 47:05Speaker 9: They protect so we all stick together.
- 47:08Speaker 1: Yeah, because there was like it was your bonding moment.
- 47:11Speaker 1: I don't believe that that the other Maybe maybe Cole
- 47:14Speaker 1: would have, and maybe Mike Moseley's character would, but I
- 47:17Speaker 1: don't know why. The others were like, all right, we'll
- 47:19Speaker 1: retake the test for you. But they bonded. We all bonded.
- 47:25Speaker 2: They needed characters to be in the room, so that's why.
- 47:29Speaker 9: Yeah, it was a bottle episode. They had to make
- 47:31Speaker 9: it cheap, so they.
- 47:33Speaker 2: Couldn't just be the three of them. It had they
- 47:35Speaker 2: had to add the two other ones and so right,
- 47:39Speaker 2: and then they kicked out and then they kick out
- 47:41Speaker 2: the authorities, so the authority is not witnessed to the admission.
- 47:45Speaker 2: Also let's take a break.
- 47:47Speaker 1: We'll be right back after these fine words.
- 47:56Speaker 9: Do we have to keep talking about the episode? Or
- 47:58Speaker 9: can I ask you guys a question anything?
- 48:00Speaker 1: We can talk about whatever you want.
- 48:02Speaker 8: You are Why are you doing this?
- 48:07Speaker 1: Why are we doing a rewatch podcast of Scrubs? Yes,
- 48:10Speaker 1: it started a very funny question. It started the beginning
- 48:13Speaker 1: of the pandemic in twenty twenty and we were looking
- 48:18Speaker 1: for something to do that would be fun. We hadn't
- 48:21Speaker 1: watched the show in forever, and two women from the
- 48:24Speaker 1: Office had done one for the show the Office, and
- 48:28Speaker 1: it has become very popular. So Donald and I thought,
- 48:30Speaker 1: we can't do anything else. We're stuck in our homes.
- 48:32Speaker 1: This would be a fun thing to do.
- 48:34Speaker 2: Kind of We had it going before the pandemic.
- 48:37Speaker 1: That's true. That's true. It had been we had been
- 48:39Speaker 1: we had been approached about doing it before the pandemic,
- 48:41Speaker 1: and then we actually started the pandemic, and because the
- 48:43Speaker 1: pandemic we had nothing to do. We ended up doing
- 48:45Speaker 1: like two a week sometimes and it just became really
- 48:48Speaker 1: fun and became a way to check in and laugh
- 48:50Speaker 1: and tell stories sometimes about Scrubs, sometimes about anything and
- 48:54Speaker 1: everything else.
- 48:55Speaker 2: And also it was around a time when like, you know,
- 48:59Speaker 2: first Bonders and everything like that were you know, really
- 49:03Speaker 2: on the front line with COVID and everything. And so
- 49:06Speaker 2: this is a show about first responders who were dealing
- 49:08Speaker 2: with you know, life and death situations. And it really
- 49:13Speaker 2: spoke to the medical community once again, which was great.
- 49:16Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know if you guys know this,
- 49:19Speaker 2: but uh, not necessarily season nine, but one through eight
- 49:23Speaker 2: is considered one of the most accurate forms of medical
- 49:27Speaker 2: television in the history of medical television anyway. And so
- 49:33Speaker 2: it really struck a chord with you know, people who
- 49:36Speaker 2: were in the streets with COVID, you know, dealing with
- 49:39Speaker 2: COVID at the time, and and it was, you know,
- 49:43Speaker 2: it was just it was it was a therapeutic for us.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Yeah. And then on the side, something we never thought
- 49:49Speaker 1: would happen, It became super popular, and so we've just
- 49:53Speaker 1: kept doing it and had so much fun doing it.
- 49:55Speaker 1: And now we're almost done with watching the show, and
- 49:58Speaker 1: the show is going to change in be more about
- 50:01Speaker 1: other things and having guests on and interviewing people. But
- 50:04Speaker 1: now we're we've only got a handful of Scrubs episodes, like.
- 50:08Speaker 2: A four or left or maybe three left some shit.
- 50:11Speaker 8: Yeah, right, So in the process of rewatching this work
- 50:15Speaker 8: that you did that was like, I mean, life changing
- 50:18Speaker 8: for you, guys.
- 50:19Speaker 9: This was like a huge part of your.
- 50:21Speaker 8: Life professionally and personally. And it was like twenty years ago,
- 50:26Speaker 8: twenty five years ago.
- 50:27Speaker 9: What are we talking about? Like a long time ago?
- 50:30Speaker 1: Did you guys?
- 50:31Speaker 5: Wow?
- 50:31Speaker 8: Yeah? Did anything as you rewatch all of it? Did
- 50:35Speaker 8: anything surprise you? Did you like, learn anything interesting? Do
- 50:40Speaker 8: you have different thoughts and feelings now as you look
- 50:43Speaker 8: back at.
- 50:44Speaker 2: Well, it was my first time ever watching the show.
- 50:46Speaker 2: I never watched the show before. Like, I'm still in
- 50:49Speaker 2: the process of watching the show for the first time
- 50:53Speaker 2: once season nine is over. I can honestly say I've
- 50:55Speaker 2: seen every episode of Scrubs. So there's that. But also
- 51:01Speaker 2: I realized how good of a show was. I took
- 51:03Speaker 2: it for granted, man, like keeping at one hundred with
- 51:05Speaker 2: you guys, I took this show for granted. I was.
- 51:09Speaker 2: I feel like I was barely there. I've told the
- 51:12Speaker 2: story before. I smoked a lot of weed doing the show,
- 51:14Speaker 2: you know what I mean. I was out at the club.
- 51:17Speaker 2: I was enjoying my youth at the time, and somehow
- 51:21Speaker 2: Bill Lawrence was able to write around all of my
- 51:25Speaker 2: you know, distractions and stuff and create this character that
- 51:30Speaker 2: people really respond to. And I'm grateful for that one.
- 51:35Speaker 2: So when I look back at it, I'm like, shit,
- 51:38Speaker 2: even though I was fucking up, you know, the fact
- 51:40Speaker 2: that I was able to portray because of you know
- 51:44Speaker 2: how great of a writer Bill is, but the fact
- 51:46Speaker 2: that I was able to do something like that that
- 51:48Speaker 2: people like is really awesome. But not just that, like,
- 51:51Speaker 2: you know, I got a best friend out of it. Like,
- 51:54Speaker 2: I look back at it now and I'm like, when
- 51:57Speaker 2: rewatching and I'm like, damn, I remember the day before
- 52:00Speaker 2: for this scene, what we did and who we were with,
- 52:04Speaker 2: and the fact that there's so many people still wanting
- 52:07Speaker 2: to talk about this, and the fact that there's so
- 52:10Speaker 2: many possibilities still. It really is like you said, it's
- 52:16Speaker 2: a it's a blessing. It's something that it's you know,
- 52:19Speaker 2: I did a bunch of things before this, but this
- 52:21Speaker 2: is this is the one thing that you know, it's
- 52:24Speaker 2: paid dividends in my life and in my bank account.
- 52:31Speaker 1: For me, it's just very surreal. It's been a very
- 52:34Speaker 1: fun exercise to watch, you know, the you're acting from
- 52:39Speaker 1: one's acting from so long ago, and see how you
- 52:43Speaker 1: know there's again I didn't A lot of times Donald
- 52:45Speaker 1: and I watched these episodes, we don't remember doing them.
- 52:48Speaker 1: They're so long ago, you know, so to watch it
- 52:50Speaker 1: anew and fresh and go oh that was really funny
- 52:53Speaker 1: or oh gosh, that was bad. And a lot of times,
- 52:56Speaker 1: you know, watching all these episodes, you see when I
- 52:58Speaker 1: was I can see as an actor, when I was
- 53:00Speaker 1: phoning it in, when I wasn't present, when I wasn't good,
- 53:02Speaker 1: or I was too broad, or I was leaning into
- 53:04Speaker 1: the joke. And it's really, I think been educational for
- 53:07Speaker 1: me as an actor, going seeing you know, the arc
- 53:14Speaker 1: of when I am proud of all those stuff I
- 53:17Speaker 1: was doing, and when I feel like, oh, you just
- 53:19Speaker 1: were leaning into the turn, you were like phoning it in,
- 53:22Speaker 1: you were you weren't present, you know. I can just
- 53:25Speaker 1: see that stuff. Maybe just because my wearing my director hat,
- 53:27Speaker 1: I go, oh oh god, someone tell him to fucking
- 53:30Speaker 1: pull it back. You're you're joking the joke, you know.
- 53:33Speaker 1: But it's just been so fun to to see it
- 53:36Speaker 1: and to and to laugh at it. And there's sometimes
- 53:38Speaker 1: Donald and I are just genuinely cracking up at it.
- 53:41Speaker 1: And it's that's when it's really fun is when we
- 53:43Speaker 1: when we look back and go, I don't remember doing this,
- 53:45Speaker 1: but that was so funny. And so it's been a
- 53:48Speaker 1: really unique experience. I mean, I don't think many people
- 53:51Speaker 1: get a chance to do a little experiment like this.
- 53:54Speaker 9: I don't think I watched any of it either.
- 53:56Speaker 7: I mean I think I'd seen snippets, but to go
- 53:58Speaker 7: and watch it, I had a similar experience of like
- 54:01Speaker 7: I was cringing at my acting and I was cringing
- 54:05Speaker 7: it my hair and I hadn't had my eyebrows dialed
- 54:08Speaker 7: in yet.
- 54:08Speaker 9: Like, there was a lot of things.
- 54:11Speaker 7: There was a lot of things that I was like,
- 54:14Speaker 7: like I would not like looking at that. I was like,
- 54:17Speaker 7: oh my god, like I think I was. So it's
- 54:20Speaker 7: like I wasn't comfortable in myself yet. So I feel
- 54:24Speaker 7: like I was on top of a lot of things,
- 54:25Speaker 7: and it was they are moments, but it was like,
- 54:29Speaker 7: I mean, if I go back and watch anything from
- 54:31Speaker 7: way before, it's like, ooh, I have so much I
- 54:35Speaker 7: have a lot to say to me.
- 54:36Speaker 1: I like you said, like you both I think have
- 54:38Speaker 1: said it was great boot camp for it was like
- 54:42Speaker 1: grad school. For me, it was like grad school. I
- 54:45Speaker 1: learned as a filmmaker and an actor. I learned so
- 54:47Speaker 1: much because the way how quickly you would shoot these episodes,
- 54:50Speaker 1: and and like you said, how quickly Bill would change things,
- 54:53Speaker 1: and the ability to just kind of just go, go go,
- 54:57Speaker 1: I think was a wonderful education.
- 55:00Speaker 2: The experience served it served us all well. I feel
- 55:03Speaker 2: like onto our other projects and stuff like, I don't
- 55:06Speaker 2: you know, after doing Scrubs for so long, I feel
- 55:09Speaker 2: like I can do anything. Like everybody feels like that,
- 55:12Speaker 2: you know what I mean, what do I need to do?
- 55:14Speaker 2: You want me to do?
- 55:15Speaker 3: What?
- 55:16Speaker 2: Yeah? I think I can do that shit, man. Yeah,
- 55:18Speaker 2: because we had to do We've had to do so
- 55:20Speaker 2: many things on the.
- 55:21Speaker 1: Show in the spirit of getting your reps in, you know,
- 55:25Speaker 1: we had We did so much. Yeah, particularly Donald and
- 55:29Speaker 1: I who did this for for nine years. We did
- 55:32Speaker 1: so much different stuff in such a short amount of time.
- 55:36Speaker 1: So I learned. It's funny. I just recently did a
- 55:39Speaker 1: guest spot on on a show and I walked on
- 55:42Speaker 1: the set and I realized, gosh, young me would have
- 55:44Speaker 1: been so intimidated. I would have been in my head.
- 55:46Speaker 1: I wouldn't have I would have given a half assed
- 55:50Speaker 1: performance because I was thinking, oh God, I don't know
- 55:52Speaker 1: these actors and I know this crew, and I went in.
- 55:55Speaker 1: There was such like a none of that fucking shit's
- 55:57Speaker 1: gonna matter. And in ten months when this airs, all
- 56:00Speaker 1: all that's going to matter is if I brought it
- 56:01Speaker 1: or not for the c And I really felt that
- 56:03Speaker 1: that was such an education in doing this show for
- 56:07Speaker 1: so long. You know, like these guest stars that come
- 56:10Speaker 1: on and they have one scene and they're amazing, and
- 56:13Speaker 1: they didn't know anyone, they didn't know the crew, they
- 56:15Speaker 1: didn't know all our inside jokes, but they came in
- 56:18Speaker 1: and they fucking crushed. And now we're watching it fifteen
- 56:21Speaker 1: years later and we're like, what a great actor, What
- 56:23Speaker 1: a good job.
- 56:25Speaker 9: You're talking about all the different things we got to do.
- 56:28Speaker 8: And my favorite part about the show is the like
- 56:32Speaker 8: genre play part of it. The you know, like we
- 56:36Speaker 8: were doing a medical show and I dressed up as
- 56:42Speaker 8: a nineteen seventies roller disco girl and Zach you were
- 56:46Speaker 8: a hypodermic.
- 56:47Speaker 9: Needle on roller skids.
- 56:50Speaker 8: We did like a full on like World War One
- 56:55Speaker 8: rifles and like piss helmets, like the like the Phantom
- 57:00Speaker 8: see Pops to me are one of the greatest things
- 57:03Speaker 8: about the show. My favorite show my like I just
- 57:08Speaker 8: comfort food rewatch all the time is Mash. And it's
- 57:16Speaker 8: so shocking to me to watch Mash and see how
- 57:20Speaker 8: much of that is in Scrubs. Also, they had a
- 57:25Speaker 8: whole episode of going into people's dreams.
- 57:28Speaker 9: They had, like I mean.
- 57:30Speaker 8: It was like a totally bonkers, crazy show. And they
- 57:33Speaker 8: were also really committed to like medical accuracy on that show,
- 57:40Speaker 8: which I also find. Yeah, and I think that's one
- 57:44Speaker 8: of my favorite things about Mash and about Scrubs is
- 57:48Speaker 8: the and all the comedy comes out of working in
- 57:54Speaker 8: a really like a high stakes life and death scenario
- 57:59Speaker 8: where with like the absurdity of having to grapple with
- 58:05Speaker 8: you know, mortality on a daily basis. And not for nothing.
- 58:09Speaker 8: I have a lot of doctor friends and they love Scrubs.
- 58:14Speaker 8: All my doctor friends tell me all the time that
- 58:17Speaker 8: Scrubs is the that is the show that is exactly
- 58:21Speaker 8: what it's like to.
- 58:22Speaker 9: Be a doctor, for better or for worse.
- 58:25Speaker 8: And I think that's pretty fucking cool.
- 58:29Speaker 1: Well, you guys are so good on the show, you know.
- 58:32Speaker 1: Donald and I uh definitely have our thoughts on season nine.
- 58:36Speaker 1: It has and it's just just such a transition when
- 58:39Speaker 1: the whole writing staff changed and Bill was no longer involved,
- 58:42Speaker 1: and it definitely feels different. But I want to say
- 58:45Speaker 1: that time and time again we say how talented you
- 58:49Speaker 1: guys are and how intimidating it must have been to
- 58:52Speaker 1: like and yet now here's the new cast. I hope
- 58:54Speaker 1: you guys like them. I mean, that's that's really a
- 58:56Speaker 1: hard thing to step into. And I think you guys
- 58:58Speaker 1: did a really fantastic job.
- 59:00Speaker 2: Eliza, you went on to work with Josh By so
- 59:04Speaker 2: right after this happy ending.
- 59:07Speaker 7: Yeah, And I was just going to say, when we
- 59:09Speaker 7: were talking about the boot camp of it all, there's
- 59:11Speaker 7: no way I could have jumped into happy endings if
- 59:13Speaker 7: I hadn't done Scrubs first, because that was like rapid fire, crazy,
- 59:19Speaker 7: like I mean, it was. It was everybody's kind of
- 59:21Speaker 7: first big thing. So wasn't that same like we were
- 59:25Speaker 7: walking into like with you guys, but it was it
- 59:28Speaker 7: was so I mean, the Russo brothers were the directors
- 59:32Speaker 7: of the first couple episodes and they were like, we
- 59:34Speaker 7: want this to be like the social Network. We're like
- 59:36Speaker 7: what they were like, we want no air in between
- 59:38Speaker 7: what you're saying, and we're like, okay, can you do
- 59:41Speaker 7: that in the editing room?
- 59:42Speaker 5: Okay, but fine, we'll do it.
- 59:43Speaker 9: So we would do it, and it was like it
- 59:46Speaker 9: was nuts.
- 59:46Speaker 7: But if I hadn't done scrubs, there's no way I
- 59:49Speaker 7: could have executed what they were asking of me.
- 59:52Speaker 1: Did you enjoy seasons that?
- 59:53Speaker 5: I go?
- 59:53Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 59:54Speaker 5: Three?
- 59:56Speaker 2: Did that went three seasons? I thought it were like
- 59:58Speaker 2: seven seasons?
- 59:59Speaker 5: No? No, it just now plays on repeat.
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: Somewhere.
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: Carrie, you were recently the woman who got bit by
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: spider back when you were doing research in the Amazon.
- 1:00:17Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:00:17Speaker 8: So I like to think of myself as like, it's
- 1:00:20Speaker 8: like pregnant Indiana Jones.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: Okay, we just recently learned that that sentence that went
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: viral is.
- 1:00:28Speaker 9: You Yeah, what is it?
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: Oh, Daniel, what's the sentence? I don't have it memorized.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: In Madame Webb, there was a line in the trailer
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: that went Viralil Simms.
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: He was in the Amazon for my mom when she
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: was researching spiders right before she died.
- 1:00:46Speaker 8: We didn't have to get super specific about it.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: It was just a nice trivia moment. Carrie didn't know
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: that that was you.
- 1:01:00Speaker 9: Glad for you that you enjoyed it.
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: I enjoyed ourgo thanks me too.
- 1:01:07Speaker 9: That was a great that's a great movie, a masterpiece.
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: Did you guys you shot that in America though?
- 1:01:12Speaker 8: Right, No, we shot that in Turkey. We went to Istanbul,
- 1:01:17Speaker 8: That's what's up.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: Could you guys were inside the whole time?
- 1:01:21Speaker 9: Not the whole time.
- 1:01:21Speaker 8: I remember we go to the Bizarre and there's there
- 1:01:23Speaker 8: like Riot and the Bizarre and that was with So
- 1:01:27Speaker 8: they got a lot of Irani of Persian refugees who
- 1:01:31Speaker 8: were living in Turkey to be the background actors in
- 1:01:36Speaker 8: that scene.
- 1:01:37Speaker 9: And we went to do a rehearsal and these.
- 1:01:41Speaker 8: Guys didn't know, uh, like the background actors didn't really
- 1:01:44Speaker 8: know the distinction between the rehearsal and like rolling.
- 1:01:47Speaker 9: So it got so crazy so fast.
- 1:01:49Speaker 8: The whole crew was like, oh my god, something bad
- 1:01:52Speaker 8: is happening. And then they realized that these guys were
- 1:01:54Speaker 8: just like really bringing it.
- 1:01:56Speaker 9: And we were like wow, wow, Yeah.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: That was that's an incredible film. I love that movie. Yeah,
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: well we got to wrap it up. Thank you guys
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: for coming on. I hope I answered your question carry
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: why this is worth it and why it's something we
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: enjoyed doing.
- 1:02:12Speaker 9: Yeah, I was just curious what got you started.
- 1:02:17Speaker 8: And if there was anything you guys like learned by
- 1:02:19Speaker 8: doing it.
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: It really did come out of the blue. I'm gonna
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: be honest with you. I was at a party and
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: some dude was like, yo, you and Zach should do
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: a freaking podcast together, and I thought Zach would never
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: agree to it, and then he said, yeah, here we are.
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: Well what happened was I was aware that The Office
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Ladies one was they were sort of the first people
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: to do a rewatch podcast with cast members of the
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: actual show, and I was aware that was very popular
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: and people were loving it, and so when Donald mentioned
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: it to me, I was like, yeah, that sounds fun.
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: I'd be like cool to rewatch it, and obviously a
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: chance to sit around and joke with him, which I
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: love doing. I never would have imagine it would become
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: so popular, which which is which is now so much
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: fun to just do it every week and check in
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: with each other.
- 1:03:07Speaker 9: I have a science podcast.
- 1:03:09Speaker 8: It's called Hyperthetical, and I interview scientists. Each episode is
- 1:03:14Speaker 8: like a what if question, like what if the Yellowstone
- 1:03:16Speaker 8: super volcano erupted? Or what if all the world's digital
- 1:03:19Speaker 8: data was erased all at once, and then I interview
- 1:03:21Speaker 8: a scientist, an expert in that field, and then that
- 1:03:26Speaker 8: interview is intercut with sort of a speculative fiction kind
- 1:03:29Speaker 8: of like a little radio play about people in that scenario,
- 1:03:32Speaker 8: and we sort of the real science.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: Wow, what happened if the data was destroyed and.
- 1:03:39Speaker 8: Was well, like money, money totally gone and lots of
- 1:03:46Speaker 8: things run Well, I don't know how you would value
- 1:03:50Speaker 8: paper currency. You got to listen to the episode Donald, how.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: Do you find the scientist?
- 1:03:59Speaker 8: So so I have done a lot of science communication.
- 1:04:02Speaker 8: One show that I was on for AMC called Halt
- 1:04:04Speaker 8: and catch Fire. I played a computer engineer in the
- 1:04:06Speaker 8: nineteen eighties and that got me really into science communication
- 1:04:11Speaker 8: and that's one of my big hobbies that I do.
- 1:04:13Speaker 8: So one of the groups that I work with is
- 1:04:16Speaker 8: called the Science and Entertainment Exchange. They're part of the
- 1:04:19Speaker 8: National Academy of Sciences, and they basically develop relationships with
- 1:04:23Speaker 8: like Hollywood people to talk about how we use science
- 1:04:26Speaker 8: and storytelling and how science can be used better in narratives.
- 1:04:31Speaker 8: And there's also a sort of like an inclusion piece,
- 1:04:35Speaker 8: so Geena Davis. It's called the Institute on Gender and Media,
- 1:04:39Speaker 8: and one of the things they say is if you
- 1:04:41Speaker 8: can see it, you can be it. So we talk
- 1:04:43Speaker 8: a lot about representation, like women can be scientists. Scientists
- 1:04:47Speaker 8: aren't all old white dudes with crazy white hair, and
- 1:04:50Speaker 8: that stuff really matters. So yeah, the Science and Entertainment
- 1:04:55Speaker 8: Exchange they have a phone number you can call, anybody
- 1:04:59Speaker 8: can call, and they'll set you up with a science consultant.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: So cool.
- 1:05:03Speaker 8: Yeah, So it's like it's like like eight sixty six
- 1:05:07Speaker 8: need sigh, And they'll like connect you with like a
- 1:05:13Speaker 8: like a genius, brilliant scientist who can tell you all
- 1:05:15Speaker 8: about your script how to make it more accurate interns
- 1:05:18Speaker 8: whatever it is, physics or astronomy or whatever.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: So if you're writing, if you're writing a script, you
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: can call them and they will set you up with
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: the correct scientists to make sure that your science is accurate.
- 1:05:29Speaker 9: That's correct.
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: That's so cool.
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: Isn't that awesome?
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: I like that too. What's your podcast?
- 1:05:36Speaker 9: I do have a show that it is a yes,
- 1:05:39Speaker 9: I do.
- 1:05:39Speaker 7: It's it's we're working on it right now, but it's
- 1:05:42Speaker 7: it's called The Actor and the Skater Because my husband's
- 1:05:44Speaker 7: a professional skateboarder. Oh, every actor that comes on has
- 1:05:49Speaker 7: to learn a skate trick at the end, and every
- 1:05:52Speaker 7: skater that comes on has to read a scene with me.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: That's funny.
- 1:05:57Speaker 9: I love it.
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: I watched these guys in Union Square Park practicing skateboarding.
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: I don't know if I can do anything.
