- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. The World's
- 0:09Speaker 1: origion poet, Welcome to Patriot's Unfiltered. And then the snow
- 0:19Speaker 1: really started coming down. So I don't know if it
- 0:21Speaker 1: was just late. I think it just depended where you live.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We Will, I think near the near the coast. You're
- 0:26Speaker 1: on the water in the Yeah, well you're not. You
- 0:28Speaker 1: list on the Cape way Bolden. Yeah, he's been in
- 0:33Speaker 1: the league. You know, No he hasn't. I know, he
- 0:35Speaker 1: wasn't drafted, but he wasn't in a U anywhere he
- 0:39Speaker 1: was and he got cut. Okay, so he wasn't the league. Yeah, okay,
- 0:43Speaker 1: at which point they found somebody face down in their
- 0:46Speaker 1: full clothes. That was me mad in Philadelphia. He should
- 0:50Speaker 1: drink mountain dew to hydrante us because he's no like
- 0:53Speaker 1: he like, he thought, well, I'm hydrating. It's the Paul
- 0:55Speaker 1: Parillo trainer, the blueberry colotta that you're duncan order to.
- 1:01Speaker 1: That was for Will. Yeah. When he was like, I
- 1:04Speaker 1: don't drink anything, they made it like a coffee. It
- 1:07Speaker 1: was like a coffee kolada. Drink it wasn't for me,
- 1:11Speaker 1: it was for Will and know who I am. You're
- 1:14Speaker 1: so in common. This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan.
- 1:20Speaker 1: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered is Tuesday here at
- 1:24Speaker 1: Gilette Stadium and the gangs all back in the studio.
- 1:28Speaker 1: It's Deuce, it's Evan, Deuson, Evan back from the combine, Paul, myself,
- 1:32Speaker 1: Matt and the booth and uh, like I said, uh,
- 1:36Speaker 1: Deuce and Evan are back from the combine, so they'll
- 1:38Speaker 1: have their war stories, their breakdowns of what their takeaways
- 1:42Speaker 1: are from the combine. We also want to talk about
- 1:45Speaker 1: what's going on in the league. Rumors about Derek Carr
- 1:48Speaker 1: going to the Saints, what does that do with the
- 1:51Speaker 1: Jets and Aaron Rodgers and all that stuff. So, uh,
- 1:56Speaker 1: you know, there's a lot to talk about in terms
- 1:58Speaker 1: of the quarterback movement. Franchise tag is coming up today
- 2:02Speaker 1: at four o'clock. The uh Tony Poler is getting getting
- 2:06Speaker 1: whacked here. Yeah, one, one year, ten million, So there's
- 2:09Speaker 1: a lot going on, um thick, it should be a
- 2:13Speaker 1: good show. But off the top, Deuson Evan, you know, um,
- 2:17Speaker 1: how you're doing? Have you recovered. Oh yeah, it was good.
- 2:20Speaker 1: We had a couple of days to regroup, but that
- 2:23Speaker 1: was it was cool. I mean the first couple of
- 2:25Speaker 1: years I went, I only we only went till I
- 2:26Speaker 1: think Thursday, so you know, we stayed the full time
- 2:29Speaker 1: and we're able to. I mean, I think now you
- 2:31Speaker 1: have to because they put the quarterbacks, the wide receivers
- 2:33Speaker 1: in the tight ends um on Friday, which I was
- 2:36Speaker 1: actually talking. I don't know. I don't know if if
- 2:38Speaker 1: Fitzee an Andy show qualifies as one of your shows, Paul,
- 2:42Speaker 1: because I feel like there are two there are two
- 2:44Speaker 1: former dance partners that we we switched up and now
- 2:47Speaker 1: I danced with Paul and Fitze and Andy dance together. Um.
- 2:50Speaker 1: But they moved the quarterbacks, the wide receivers and head
- 2:52Speaker 1: ends to Friday, so then they worked out Saturday. So
- 2:55Speaker 1: when we were leaving Saturday, you were just seeing all
- 2:58Speaker 1: kinds of NFL fans streaming into the area, going to Shapiro's,
- 3:02Speaker 1: walking over to Lucas Oil Stadium. So I think, from
- 3:05Speaker 1: you know, like out of a marketing standpoint, that's why
- 3:07Speaker 1: they did it, to get those skill positions on display
- 3:10Speaker 1: there for a Saturday and a lot of families going.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I don't know if they charged tickets or anything, but
- 3:13Speaker 1: they look like look like a good time. So it
- 3:15Speaker 1: seems like they're trying to expand it a little bit.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I think we're another year in Indie. But uh, but overall, yeah,
- 3:20Speaker 1: it was. It was good time. Tons of guys just
- 3:22Speaker 1: rolling them in. Are they still doing the thing at
- 3:24Speaker 1: the combine where you know public can come and watch
- 3:27Speaker 1: and you have the radio that you can listen to commentary.
- 3:31Speaker 1: I don't know about the radio. I mean, I'm sure
- 3:32Speaker 1: people probably a stream an NFL network to listen to
- 3:35Speaker 1: the fine work that the rich Eyes and the Daniel
- 3:37Speaker 1: Jeremiah were doing. Um, but I'm not sure to that.
- 3:39Speaker 1: But there were, you know, good cross section of fans
- 3:41Speaker 1: we saw. We went to Shapiros. On our way out,
- 3:43Speaker 1: we saw Romandre Stevenson Jersey, so, you know, a little
- 3:45Speaker 1: Patriots loved Shapiro's. It's a Delhi down there. It's a
- 3:49Speaker 1: Matt Smith favorite. Have you there? Have you been there? Was?
- 3:56Speaker 1: What's wrong with you? Unfortunately? Though we went there, we're
- 3:59Speaker 1: very excited than excited. Never been there either, right, And
- 4:02Speaker 1: of course we had to sit next to some old
- 4:04Speaker 1: lady who I don't know how COVID didn't get her,
- 4:06Speaker 1: but man, she was coughing up along the whole time
- 4:09Speaker 1: next to us. Just it just ruined and ruined the
- 4:12Speaker 1: whole meal. We were all bummed out leaving. We're like,
- 4:14Speaker 1: well that was that was stunk like that, the poor
- 4:16Speaker 1: lady coughing all over the place. But yeah, so good food,
- 4:20Speaker 1: good steaks, good. Yeah. So you mentioned a lot of
- 4:22Speaker 1: the skill positions in the weekend. I didn't see any
- 4:26Speaker 1: reports of like eye popping forties this year, Like, no,
- 4:31Speaker 1: did I just miss that? So dj Turner from Michigan
- 4:34Speaker 1: the Corner ran the fastest with a four two six,
- 4:36Speaker 1: which is moving. That's pretty good. That's pretty darn good.
- 4:39Speaker 1: But it wasn't a big year for the forties. There
- 4:42Speaker 1: was a lot going on with the clock on TV
- 4:45Speaker 1: as well, being too fast or too slow, and so
- 4:48Speaker 1: then the unofficial times were coming in and people were
- 4:51Speaker 1: you know, poor Jordan Addison runs a four to five
- 4:53Speaker 1: five on the unofficial time, and then it comes in
- 4:56Speaker 1: officially a four four nine, which is a little bit
- 4:58Speaker 1: better obviously, So it wasn't a fast track this year
- 5:03Speaker 1: as much as last year. Everybody ran well taekwon, I
- 5:06Speaker 1: mean Taikhon would have blown it up this year. Yeah,
- 5:08Speaker 1: Taiquon would have been the story of the combine if
- 5:10Speaker 1: he was was in it this year with the four
- 5:12Speaker 1: two eight. So it wasn't exactly the especially for the receivers.
- 5:17Speaker 1: It No one really blew anybody away in the forty.
- 5:21Speaker 1: You know, Zay Flowers a really fast explosive receiver from
- 5:25Speaker 1: BC ran a four four two. Jalen Hyatt ran a
- 5:28Speaker 1: four four flat. Those are sort of the two big
- 5:30Speaker 1: vertical guys. So was there anyone because of their workout
- 5:33Speaker 1: that act that ended up going up or down on
- 5:36Speaker 1: your boards. Well, I don't want to reveal anything just
- 5:39Speaker 1: because I can say just generally No, I could just
- 5:41Speaker 1: say generally, I think everybody was like blown away by
- 5:43Speaker 1: Darnell Washington and just how he looked and you know
- 5:46Speaker 1: how he tested giant tight end from from Georgia, you know,
- 5:50Speaker 1: how to crazy catch in one of the drills. But I,
- 5:53Speaker 1: you know, I think we're lucky we didn't see Dawan
- 5:56Speaker 1: Jones there because I feel like these you know, it's
- 5:58Speaker 1: just the giant guys that you're like, oh my god,
- 6:00Speaker 1: he's huge. Um, But that was one that popped to mind.
- 6:03Speaker 1: I don't know what about this Will Levis. Oh god,
- 6:06Speaker 1: that's a Will levis Is this year is Zach Wilson. Yeah, right,
- 6:10Speaker 1: it's gonna look great. In short, it's gonna throw the
- 6:12Speaker 1: ball all over the place at his pro day. He's
- 6:14Speaker 1: got a Jimmy garoppolo release. It's a very quick release.
- 6:17Speaker 1: He's got a really he's got a howitzer. He's got
- 6:19Speaker 1: a huge arm, and he's if a kid. Uh, he's
- 6:23Speaker 1: gonna look great at these things combine Pro Day, you know,
- 6:26Speaker 1: and he's thrown against air. Teams are gonna be impressed.
- 6:29Speaker 1: But when you turn on the film with him, doesn't
- 6:32Speaker 1: have a high volume of throws. He only threw the
- 6:34Speaker 1: ball like two hundred and fifty times all last year,
- 6:36Speaker 1: which in college is nothing. And he his accuracy is
- 6:39Speaker 1: all over the place. Okay, so he's not exactly my
- 6:43Speaker 1: cup of team. Well, Anthony Richardson too, is the other
- 6:45Speaker 1: one we should should talk. Yeah, he just I mean measurements, running,
- 6:51Speaker 1: throwing back flips. Yeah you can jump, Yeah he can,
- 6:54Speaker 1: I mean, And it's I mean and and Paul's what
- 6:57Speaker 1: Paul's getting out is totally right. Like he's probably gonna
- 6:59Speaker 1: go in the top ten, right, now and you know
- 7:01Speaker 1: good laws. Yea. To your point about the risers, the
- 7:05Speaker 1: quarterbacks are all on the right. I don't know if
- 7:11Speaker 1: you know, but Anthony Richardson like the bestrodect in the
- 7:13Speaker 1: history of not for that. Yeah, Anthony Richardson should be
- 7:18Speaker 1: a top ten pick, definitely. Yeah. He's just you look
- 7:22Speaker 1: at the way that he plays. It's exactly what the
- 7:26Speaker 1: league is trending towards right now in terms of athleticism,
- 7:29Speaker 1: out of structure, playmaking, all that kind of stuff. And
- 7:32Speaker 1: you you don't see it's not between the ears with
- 7:36Speaker 1: him that are the issues. Like he makes the right decisions,
- 7:39Speaker 1: he's looking in the right places. Uh, he's just got
- 7:42Speaker 1: some mechanical flaws and some footwork flaws, really inconsistencies with
- 7:45Speaker 1: his footwork that when you get him with good quarterback
- 7:47Speaker 1: coaches and things like that, I can easily convince myself
- 7:51Speaker 1: and to him two to three years down the line
- 7:53Speaker 1: having a Josh Allen type trajectory in his NFL career
- 7:56Speaker 1: and at the end of the day, that's his chase.
- 8:00Speaker 1: You gotta chase that, Yeah you do. Yeah, I would
- 8:02Speaker 1: say it's really good news for the Patriots. Yeah, because
- 8:05Speaker 1: I think, sure you never know. I mean, these things change,
- 8:08Speaker 1: but I think all four are going to go in
- 8:09Speaker 1: the top fourteen. So I think that's going to allow
- 8:13Speaker 1: a better player or two to drop to you. Yeah,
- 8:16Speaker 1: that you maybe weren't expecting. Yeah, that's what you're hoping.
- 8:18Speaker 1: It's the Patriots fan. Yeah. Take the quarterbacks, yeah yeah,
- 8:21Speaker 1: I think. I mean, I think the two big position
- 8:23Speaker 1: takeaways just for for both of us were cornerback and
- 8:25Speaker 1: tight end. That those are, you know, just the deepest groups.
- 8:28Speaker 1: And really the conversation is, and it's a Patriots E
- 8:31Speaker 1: one is when you have one of these deep groups,
- 8:33Speaker 1: do you are you satisfied to just get one of
- 8:35Speaker 1: them or do you want to say, no, I want
- 8:37Speaker 1: to go get the best of this group. Who's your
- 8:38Speaker 1: top tight end? Well, I don't know it. Yeah, it depends.
- 8:44Speaker 1: I like Michael Mayer is the top tight end in
- 8:45Speaker 1: the draft from Notre Dame, but he's more of that
- 8:50Speaker 1: guy that can just do everything well but isn't necessarily
- 8:54Speaker 1: elite or fantastic at one particular thing. So it depends
- 8:59Speaker 1: on what you're looking for. You know, if you want
- 9:01Speaker 1: a guy that's just going to be well rounded, can
- 9:03Speaker 1: put his hand in the Dirk and play outside. I
- 9:05Speaker 1: can do pretty much everything you would ask of a
- 9:07Speaker 1: tight end and Mayor is your guy. But if you
- 9:09Speaker 1: really want receiving upside, then somebody like Dalton Kincaid or
- 9:14Speaker 1: Sam Laporta from Iowa might be more of your cup
- 9:16Speaker 1: of tea. If you want just the freak of nature,
- 9:19Speaker 1: then Darnell Washington is your guy. You know. So this
- 9:21Speaker 1: is a really deep He's six six six seven, two
- 9:27Speaker 1: hundred and sixty five pounds and tested through the roof.
- 9:29Speaker 1: But Kenny Catch, oh yeah, well that's what that was
- 9:32Speaker 1: part of the question with. I mean he's huge, and
- 9:34Speaker 1: I mean him on the blocking sled it was like
- 9:35Speaker 1: comedy where I was talking to Gogelos. I mean it was,
- 9:37Speaker 1: you know, because it's got that kind of positioning where
- 9:39Speaker 1: if you if you go too high, it stops dead
- 9:41Speaker 1: in its tracks. And he was just like and just
- 9:44Speaker 1: pushed it, no problem. Then you see the other guys
- 9:45Speaker 1: kind of I'd like to see, you know, I'm just
- 9:49Speaker 1: trying to trying to tell the story thing. Um so,
- 9:51Speaker 1: but also Luke Musgrave's another one from Oregon State that
- 9:54Speaker 1: it was just you know, a senior bowl looked really good.
- 9:56Speaker 1: You don't like him. I really liked him at the
- 9:58Speaker 1: at the Senior Bowl. I just I mean, he's been
- 10:00Speaker 1: injured a lot, but I think he's one of those
- 10:01Speaker 1: guys that you know, you don't know, but that's I mean,
- 10:04Speaker 1: there's some options, there's some options. That's tight end, not
- 10:06Speaker 1: even bigger than me. But I do wonder, you know,
- 10:09Speaker 1: like you don't really have that wide receiver there. Do
- 10:12Speaker 1: you consider it? Do you consider maybe just taking a guy.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I don't know if kincaid at fourteen, but do you
- 10:17Speaker 1: do you just say, hey, we need weapons, we need
- 10:19Speaker 1: guys who can who can move the sticks. This is
- 10:20Speaker 1: a guy in the middle of the field. They can
- 10:22Speaker 1: probably play. Laport is the guy that we talked about
- 10:24Speaker 1: last week on the show because we were talking about
- 10:27Speaker 1: the Iowa guys, and yeah, that's the biggest It's a good,
- 10:30Speaker 1: good tradition of tight ends from the school, good connection
- 10:33Speaker 1: with Bill, with with Kirk Ferrens. So some a guy
- 10:38Speaker 1: I think to keep in the back of your mind. Um,
- 10:40Speaker 1: you know, at some point I would not be I
- 10:43Speaker 1: don't know how these guys feel. I would not be
- 10:44Speaker 1: in favor of taking one at fourteen. No, that's how
- 10:48Speaker 1: that's too high. But I just think there are bigger
- 10:50Speaker 1: needs and I don't if you knew the guy was
- 10:52Speaker 1: going to be as good as Gront Kelsey or George Kittle,
- 10:56Speaker 1: would you take a right Okay, but but I don't
- 10:58Speaker 1: know if any of the best players draft. Yeah, but
- 11:00Speaker 1: I'll take him at fourteen. You're not looking at tight
- 11:02Speaker 1: ends the way you look at running backs. No, tight ends.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Tight ends a valuable position, but you just don't think
- 11:10Speaker 1: there's someone that good. Yeah, well yeah, literally, that would
- 11:14Speaker 1: be the best player in the draft if you if
- 11:16Speaker 1: you just like plocked you know, Travis Kelsey into the draft. Yeah,
- 11:20Speaker 1: that's the best player in the draft. Yes, I'm interested
- 11:22Speaker 1: in taking that at fourteen. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't
- 11:25Speaker 1: want to give too much away about my mock draft,
- 11:27Speaker 1: so I'm play so Hm and I we're gonna do
- 11:30Speaker 1: We're gonna have a little fun on Thursday. We're not
- 11:31Speaker 1: we're gonna do another one of those mock draft ideas.
- 11:33Speaker 1: But we're not going to tell each other what we're
- 11:35Speaker 1: picking til we get on. The guys gonna hit double digits.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I think we'll probably hit four. I think four like
- 11:40Speaker 1: we're gonna have eleven point zero, you know, if you
- 11:44Speaker 1: put all the players together. I actually nailed all of it.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I know my twelve mock drafts. I envy. I know
- 11:48Speaker 1: what you're doing. The basis, No, I'm only going to
- 11:52Speaker 1: count the back I know where. It's only the big board,
- 11:54Speaker 1: but it's uh, you definitely get more of a sense
- 11:57Speaker 1: of the class. And I mean, I just think I'm
- 11:58Speaker 1: a little bit disappointed that you know, there isn't just
- 12:02Speaker 1: a generational kind of wide receiver up there. I think
- 12:04Speaker 1: just I mean, that's that's me wishing for something really
- 12:07Speaker 1: sexy and you know, something that's going to get everybody
- 12:10Speaker 1: really excited like they were when they took Mac. I
- 12:12Speaker 1: just I don't know if that player exists. Who's the one?
- 12:15Speaker 1: H is the kid from Ohio State. Yeah, he seems
- 12:19Speaker 1: to be on everybody's radar right now. What happened. He's sexy.
- 12:24Speaker 1: He's sexy. So Jason. First of all, he ran like
- 12:29Speaker 1: a Julian Edelman esque three cone who was like six
- 12:32Speaker 1: point six seconds or something. So the quickness is just
- 12:36Speaker 1: out of the out of the roof. But I was texting.
- 12:39Speaker 1: We had Jordan Reid on the on the podcast, and
- 12:41Speaker 1: I was dming with him. He said that the scouts
- 12:45Speaker 1: around him and him included said that he had the
- 12:48Speaker 1: best on field workout since Justin Jefferson and this guy, Yeah,
- 12:53Speaker 1: you raised my eyes, right, So this is Jason is
- 12:57Speaker 1: not a vertical threat. That's the biggest knock on him.
- 13:00Speaker 1: He didn't run the forty at the Combine. After what
- 13:02Speaker 1: he did at the Combine with the agilities and with
- 13:05Speaker 1: the on field, I don't even know if he's going
- 13:07Speaker 1: to run the forty because it's not really in his
- 13:09Speaker 1: best interest to put up a four to five five
- 13:11Speaker 1: at this point when we all know that that's he's
- 13:14Speaker 1: not a burner, Like that's just not his game. But
- 13:16Speaker 1: if you want separation quickness, you want route running, you
- 13:19Speaker 1: want a chain mover that's going to catch one hundred
- 13:21Speaker 1: passes out of the slot, this is the guy. And
- 13:25Speaker 1: I think he put himself in that conversation of some
- 13:30Speaker 1: of the other guys at receiver that have gone and
- 13:32Speaker 1: that ten to twenty five range over the last few
- 13:35Speaker 1: few years, like Justin Jefferson, Ceedee Lamb, you know, Jerry
- 13:38Speaker 1: Judy like that, that type of receiver. Not the top
- 13:42Speaker 1: five guy that's you know, Jamar Chase, but somebody that's
- 13:46Speaker 1: in that next tier and it is a legit NFL player.
- 13:48Speaker 1: So would you take him over the kid from USC oh? Yeah? Absolutely, Yeah,
- 13:53Speaker 1: he's good play. He's a really good player. He didn't
- 13:54Speaker 1: play a ton last year because of injuries. But you
- 13:57Speaker 1: go back two years ago when they still had Now
- 14:00Speaker 1: this is a problem for me too, because this is
- 14:02Speaker 1: where you know, when they had Garrett Wilson and Christo
- 14:05Speaker 1: lave in him he was as productive, if not more
- 14:08Speaker 1: productive than all of them. More. But was that because
- 14:11Speaker 1: of right they're they're not thrown at those guys? You
- 14:14Speaker 1: know my old nick as serial question, Freddie, You know
- 14:16Speaker 1: how I like to go with those who's the guy,
- 14:18Speaker 1: who's the guy who drives the engine? But but you know,
- 14:21Speaker 1: so that that's a question because he wasn't as productive
- 14:23Speaker 1: even before he got hurt last year as he was too.
- 14:26Speaker 1: But even then in that situation, he's still gonna make
- 14:28Speaker 1: the plays when they throw the ball. He's good. Yeah,
- 14:30Speaker 1: he's a really good So when you talk to uh,
- 14:33Speaker 1: the people that are closer to the Ohio State program
- 14:35Speaker 1: than any of us, they all say that Jay said,
- 14:38Speaker 1: So what did Albert have to say? No, not not
- 14:41Speaker 1: just Albert, but so I had a conversation with ten
- 14:45Speaker 1: Win from the Athletic who does all of their film
- 14:47Speaker 1: breakdown stuff. He's really good and he he mentioned that
- 14:50Speaker 1: he talked to Brian Hartline, their wide receiver coach. Off
- 14:52Speaker 1: the record said at Lave Wilson, Marvin JSN, who you
- 14:58Speaker 1: take it? And he said, JSN, Well give you a
- 15:00Speaker 1: little insight. I'm running the coaches clinic here on Friday
- 15:03Speaker 1: and Saturday, and Jim Knowles from Ohio State will be there,
- 15:07Speaker 1: so if you want to come and just ask them
- 15:09Speaker 1: some questions. They want to up against him in practice
- 15:11Speaker 1: every day, right, I guess is that going on during
- 15:14Speaker 1: the day on Friday starts at four four? Okay, yeah,
- 15:17Speaker 1: I might. I know my my, my guy Drew cane
- 15:20Speaker 1: in from holy Cross, is he's excited too. Yeah, one
- 15:22Speaker 1: of you guys get a job in the NFL. Who
- 15:24Speaker 1: know someone off that holy Cross staff? Really? I got
- 15:27Speaker 1: an assistant offensive line coach. Really, I thought I saw something,
- 15:32Speaker 1: you know me, just enough information to get myself in trouble. No,
- 15:35Speaker 1: that's good. I'm gonna bow out. I have I mean,
- 15:38Speaker 1: and I tell you, Drew, I mean they blocked like
- 15:41Speaker 1: six seven punts this, I mean it was insane with
- 15:44Speaker 1: what he did on special teams. So, um, I don't know.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Maybe maybe I can get the schedule from me. I
- 15:48Speaker 1: might might might like to audit want audit that for him?
- 15:50Speaker 1: But okay, sorry, sorry I digressed, all right. I got
- 15:52Speaker 1: a little bit of small Patriots breaking news. Okay, Jonathan
- 15:57Speaker 1: Jones hitting the open market. Will not be franchised to
- 16:00Speaker 1: rape all right? That probably not that I thought. I
- 16:05Speaker 1: wouldn't put it quite in the Hunter Henry not going
- 16:07Speaker 1: to get released category. But did anybody think there was
- 16:09Speaker 1: a chance that Jonathan Jones was going to get franchised
- 16:11Speaker 1: or am I the only one that didn't know? Maybe
- 16:14Speaker 1: earlier this year, before the second half of the season,
- 16:17Speaker 1: they we're going to give him like eighteen million dollars. Yeah,
- 16:21Speaker 1: that was a good one yesterday about Hunter Henry Hunter
- 16:24Speaker 1: Henry I won't be released? Oh good? And everybody Matthew
- 16:28Speaker 1: Judah not expected to be released, right right? Um? What
- 16:31Speaker 1: did you guys think of the We can get back
- 16:32Speaker 1: into the comment, But I just I really was curious
- 16:34Speaker 1: about the thoughts of this Raiders right trade. I think
- 16:38Speaker 1: there's Dan Graziano's report that the Raiders might want to
- 16:40Speaker 1: trade for Mac Jones with the Patriots are interested. I
- 16:42Speaker 1: was trying to like put my Paul hat on of
- 16:44Speaker 1: like how can I think of where this is going
- 16:46Speaker 1: to come from and who's trying to like put this
- 16:48Speaker 1: out there and why? And I don't have any answer.
- 16:50Speaker 1: I just I can't. My conspiracy tinfoil hat won't won't
- 16:54Speaker 1: won't work on this one. I'm not sure why, because
- 16:56Speaker 1: it's just it's another thing. It just makes no sense,
- 16:57Speaker 1: like they might like to trade for him, but the
- 16:58Speaker 1: Patriots won't do it, and like that's nothing. Then what
- 17:00Speaker 1: are you saying like nothing? Well, yeah, is it just speculation?
- 17:04Speaker 1: Is it? Did you actually here for It's But I agree,
- 17:07Speaker 1: I agree with Mike. Someone definitely asked a favor of
- 17:10Speaker 1: Dan Grazian think. So, yeah, this type of stuff coming
- 17:12Speaker 1: out of Combine drives me crazy. Like just because you
- 17:15Speaker 1: and your buddies at Prime forty seven at two o'clock
- 17:17Speaker 1: in the morning, we're talking about, oh, would make kind
- 17:19Speaker 1: of sense for the Raiders to try to trade for
- 17:21Speaker 1: mac Jones, that doesn't mean that it's being discussed, right
- 17:24Speaker 1: Wait did you hear something that Prime forty seven? Oh no, no, no,
- 17:27Speaker 1: I don't think here you hear all that kind of stuff.
- 17:29Speaker 1: I didn't see that this report, and I didn't wasn't
- 17:32Speaker 1: aware of it until Mike told me about it yesterday. Um,
- 17:35Speaker 1: but my guess is somebody asked Graziano if he would
- 17:38Speaker 1: throw throw that out there that the Raiders would be
- 17:40Speaker 1: interested in trading for him. Now, maybe it was someone
- 17:42Speaker 1: on the Raider's side. Maybe it was someone on the
- 17:44Speaker 1: Patriot's side. Maybe someone wanted on the Patriots side wanted
- 17:47Speaker 1: to make it known we're not interested in trading him. Ah,
- 17:52Speaker 1: I like that. Or maybe it was Josh McDaniel saying, yeah,
- 17:55Speaker 1: I'd be a you never know, could be side. That's
- 17:59Speaker 1: why I agree with Mike. I don't know what, I
- 18:00Speaker 1: don't know what tin foil hat. Yeah, but I like
- 18:03Speaker 1: that one. But someone saying it, yeah, Oh, I mean
- 18:06Speaker 1: I assume that these guys don't just make it up. Yeah,
- 18:09Speaker 1: that's a big assumption. Sometimes. I know there are guys
- 18:12Speaker 1: that work locally that one for specifically that I know
- 18:15Speaker 1: does do that. Yeah. I always thought that, you know,
- 18:18Speaker 1: if Lamar Jackson doesn't go back to the Ravens, that
- 18:21Speaker 1: he would might be in play for Denver, because you know,
- 18:24Speaker 1: the rumor was McDaniels liked him when he was available
- 18:28Speaker 1: in the draft. When I Invraiders, you said, Denver, I
- 18:32Speaker 1: mean the Raiders. I'm sorry, Um, you know that he
- 18:34Speaker 1: would be in play for the Raiders. Um. But now
- 18:37Speaker 1: I'm hearing that. You know they're negotiating in Baltimore, you know,
- 18:41Speaker 1: and they're hoping to get a deal done. Well, he's
- 18:44Speaker 1: gonna get franchise today if he's Yeah, if they don't
- 18:46Speaker 1: sign and they're not going to let him hit the
- 18:48Speaker 1: open market, I can't imagine they'd let him hit the
- 18:50Speaker 1: open market. Yeah, but but I say, gives the franchise tag,
- 18:54Speaker 1: So you can't even that too, negotiate or trade him
- 18:57Speaker 1: or anything. He's to look at him, can't even touch him. Yeah,
- 19:00Speaker 1: see what you did. But do you think Lamar Jackson,
- 19:04Speaker 1: how do you think he responds to that? Does he
- 19:06Speaker 1: hold out anyway? You know? He could? He could? I
- 19:10Speaker 1: think I think the exclusive rights tag is like forty
- 19:14Speaker 1: five fifty million guaranteed cash like here, it is. It's
- 19:18Speaker 1: a that's a nice It is one of those things
- 19:20Speaker 1: when you get like the for the quarterbacks specifically, And
- 19:24Speaker 1: I know why they don't want it. But Kirk Cousins
- 19:27Speaker 1: showed you it can work. Oh yeah, he made a
- 19:29Speaker 1: living off of it. And if he don't get hurt,
- 19:32Speaker 1: you know, right, you don't. I mean, I'm not telling
- 19:34Speaker 1: you that all quarterbacks are never gonna get hurt, obviously,
- 19:37Speaker 1: you know, look at to a situation. He looks like he's,
- 19:39Speaker 1: you know, one one bad hit away from being done.
- 19:42Speaker 1: So it can happen. But that kind of money that
- 19:44Speaker 1: Evan's talking about, forty five fifty million, then you play
- 19:49Speaker 1: it out and then let's just say it goes up
- 19:52Speaker 1: if they have to do it again, right, gets you're
- 19:56Speaker 1: not making you know, let's just say you get franchise
- 20:00Speaker 1: twice and he's making over one hundred million dollars the
- 20:03Speaker 1: first two years, Like, well, how much more was you
- 20:05Speaker 1: gonna make if they've signed up to a five year
- 20:06Speaker 1: deal tomorrow? Right, right? Right? And how much more in
- 20:09Speaker 1: the first two years is he gonna get? And how
- 20:11Speaker 1: does he feel next year after you franchised him? Because
- 20:13Speaker 1: some guys hate it and can be pissed they don't
- 20:16Speaker 1: like it. Why they don't like it, But for a quarterback,
- 20:20Speaker 1: I would be a little bit more open minded about it.
- 20:22Speaker 1: As a player. The other positions I would need money,
- 20:24Speaker 1: all the other positions, I would hate it, so probably
- 20:28Speaker 1: like Kickers. So so in your mind, do you think
- 20:31Speaker 1: Jackson's really kind of out of the conversation about movement.
- 20:34Speaker 1: I think so, I think so until you start to
- 20:37Speaker 1: hear it going south. I mean, he's in it. All
- 20:39Speaker 1: of those teams would be interested in here. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 20:41Speaker 1: that's why you. I mean, I just wonder if there
- 20:43Speaker 1: are any teams maybe purposely dragging their feet just to
- 20:45Speaker 1: see a little bit. And I guess, I guess rich
- 20:49Speaker 1: Eisen kind of, you know, broached the idea of Brady
- 20:53Speaker 1: not being done and going to Miami. I don't know
- 20:55Speaker 1: where that's one. I think that to Evans, I don't
- 20:58Speaker 1: know where he's I don't know where he's getting there.
- 21:00Speaker 1: But he brought it up on his show yesterday. I
- 21:02Speaker 1: believe is it three o'clock, that's what I could see
- 21:07Speaker 1: Evans scenario. I'm just saying, a bunch of guys hanging out,
- 21:10Speaker 1: you know what I mean. I saw Brady. He looks
- 21:13Speaker 1: like he's in shade, he secause you just kind of
- 21:17Speaker 1: a brand. Like imagine, I'm running TV twelve and he's
- 21:21Speaker 1: got like this big gun. You know what I can
- 21:23Speaker 1: see that scenario unfolding, and Rich Eyes was a guy
- 21:26Speaker 1: who's dan. He's talking, man, but nobody's saying specifically, you
- 21:32Speaker 1: know what I'm hearing Brady's coming back. I'm not. I
- 21:34Speaker 1: don't dismiss anything. Yeah, but that one, to me was
- 21:38Speaker 1: so vague. One of the things, one of my number
- 21:41Speaker 1: one takeaways from the combine was I don't think Brady's
- 21:43Speaker 1: necessarily done. Okay, is there anything to that? Like any reason?
- 21:48Speaker 1: Why did anyone see the report that he was considering
- 21:50Speaker 1: a career in stand up comedy like a week and
- 21:52Speaker 1: a half now, so that that was he was doing
- 21:55Speaker 1: a promo. He's doing all right, and that's going to
- 22:00Speaker 1: be brutal. Yeah, are they roasting him? I think it's
- 22:04Speaker 1: like a roast series type thing. I don't know if
- 22:07Speaker 1: he's definitely involved. I don't know if. I mean, he's
- 22:10Speaker 1: a great roast, but roaster, yeah, I don't know about that.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I don't know if he'd be a great roast. I
- 22:17Speaker 1: get to just get pissed, get up, just like you are,
- 22:22Speaker 1: pull the tablecloth off off the day the dais and
- 22:25Speaker 1: run out like Brian Moore. You imagine if you're roasted
- 22:27Speaker 1: Brian Moore I'm not mad, but I'm gonna get you right. Oh,
- 22:33Speaker 1: it'll never end, It'll never end. But but I don't
- 22:36Speaker 1: think anybody truly ruled up. I mean I didn't completely
- 22:38Speaker 1: ever rule him out. And until he goes to season
- 22:41Speaker 1: without I think he should retired. And I thought it
- 22:43Speaker 1: was different this time than last time. But I don't
- 22:46Speaker 1: I don't rule it up. No, he's too competitive. I
- 22:48Speaker 1: just I think he's the classic example of a guy
- 22:50Speaker 1: who's going to get out of the league and be like,
- 22:52Speaker 1: I have no outlet for this crazy hyper competitive drive
- 22:55Speaker 1: that I have and you know, beating my kids in
- 22:57Speaker 1: like game Xbox or it's not gonna do it, Like
- 23:00Speaker 1: I need something else. And don't you think Miami is
- 23:02Speaker 1: in the back of his mind like it has been
- 23:05Speaker 1: for a couple of years. And now if they get
- 23:07Speaker 1: to the point where to a situation is untenable, then
- 23:12Speaker 1: they say say, hey, listen, you're a free agent. You're
- 23:15Speaker 1: not taking anyone's job. Even this guy looks like he
- 23:18Speaker 1: knows what he's doing. Offensively, McDaniel, look what you have
- 23:21Speaker 1: to throw to Yeah, right, and I can stick it
- 23:24Speaker 1: to Giselle. And by the way, we're gonna give you
- 23:27Speaker 1: two percent of the team. Well they could, they can't
- 23:30Speaker 1: do that and have him play. Now, well, they'd have
- 23:32Speaker 1: to factor it into the cap as a compensation. But
- 23:35Speaker 1: but then you then you can make it a ten
- 23:38Speaker 1: year term and we have to and I see that's
- 23:40Speaker 1: I mean, but but like that sucks as a Patriots fan,
- 23:43Speaker 1: Tom Brady's gonna have an ownership interest in the Dogs. Listen,
- 23:47Speaker 1: even if it's even without the ownership. I was thrilled
- 23:50Speaker 1: that he was gonna keep playing with Tampa Bay. I
- 23:53Speaker 1: would be pissed if he went and played for Miami.
- 23:55Speaker 1: He's like just because it's a division team. Yeah, yeah,
- 23:57Speaker 1: that makes sense. He's like in the ownership box and
- 23:59Speaker 1: like a teal in white suit every game. You not
- 24:04Speaker 1: all of frist is irrational, that's rational. I hate Miami too. Yeah, yeah,
- 24:09Speaker 1: I love the fit. I don't oh no, not not
- 24:14Speaker 1: his type of offense. Like they'd have to completely change
- 24:18Speaker 1: a lot of their their fundamental concepts. Like he's not
- 24:21Speaker 1: gonna run bootlegs. No, but can those guys get open fast?
- 24:25Speaker 1: I think so. Definitely. It's a completely different system. I
- 24:30Speaker 1: mean you're acting like it's, you know, built it out
- 24:33Speaker 1: of concrete. I mean I'm actually I just don't. I
- 24:35Speaker 1: don't do they have I don't know if McDaniel can
- 24:37Speaker 1: do it. Do they give me, give me Brady take
- 24:40Speaker 1: the system? Do they have guys that can get open fast? Yes?
- 24:43Speaker 1: And can Brady get them the ball? Yes? I think
- 24:46Speaker 1: I think you wouldjust the system. I don't think McDaniel's
- 24:49Speaker 1: up for it. No, I think he'd be just fine. Like,
- 24:52Speaker 1: you don't have to have him run bootlegs and everything
- 24:54Speaker 1: like that would be stupid to have him trying to
- 24:56Speaker 1: throw the ball on the move. You definitely have to
- 24:58Speaker 1: scrap those pages to the playbook. But I think I
- 25:01Speaker 1: could come up with something with you know, Hill and
- 25:06Speaker 1: Wattle and who's the tight end? Gasecki he's oh he's
- 25:11Speaker 1: a free agent, but is two now we have to
- 25:15Speaker 1: make it? Are they trying to make a decision on
- 25:17Speaker 1: five fifth year for two US now? Yeah? Until May? Yeah? Interesting? Yeah, Yeah,
- 25:23Speaker 1: that's one that I could definitely see going the other way. Yeah,
- 25:27Speaker 1: what are we looking at? No socks? It's funny. We're
- 25:30Speaker 1: getting off the plane and Evan we had a wonderful
- 25:32Speaker 1: week in India, wonderful week and like date or something
- 25:37Speaker 1: that's no socks, right, doesn't wear socks. Well, no, no,
- 25:44Speaker 1: The thing with Matt is when he wears shoes, he
- 25:46Speaker 1: doesn't wear socks. When he wears sneakers, he does the
- 25:52Speaker 1: thumbs up from behind the producer, right, Craft Sports and Entertainment.
- 25:57Speaker 1: That's good stuff, all right. Yeah, so I'm so the
- 26:00Speaker 1: foot So the quarterback movement is still out there. I
- 26:03Speaker 1: just love that part of it. Yeah, this is like
- 26:06Speaker 1: five years in a row. It just changes an entire
- 26:08Speaker 1: dynamic of a team instantly and just makes you rethink, well,
- 26:11Speaker 1: it's used to have, like the other sports have this
- 26:14Speaker 1: like enormous hot stove, and now the NFL is dominating
- 26:17Speaker 1: in that that way, it was the one thing the
- 26:18Speaker 1: NFL didn't have, and now even that is dominated by
- 26:21Speaker 1: the NFL. Like, what do you think is going through
- 26:23Speaker 1: the mind of Jordan Love right now? Oh God, I'll
- 26:28Speaker 1: give you my take. This is one that I have
- 26:30Speaker 1: absolutely no fact to make it. Back it up. I
- 26:33Speaker 1: think he knows he's the starting quarterback. Yeah, because that's
- 26:36Speaker 1: what I think. Like going to McCarthy or whoever's the
- 26:39Speaker 1: head of that team, I don't know that the floor. No, no,
- 26:41Speaker 1: not the head coach. I mean the the guy that's
- 26:44Speaker 1: in charge of the good and Coush tout and cooush. Yeah,
- 26:49Speaker 1: but saying, listen, you know I'm through waiting, you know, like,
- 26:54Speaker 1: make me the starting quarterback, get rid of him, and
- 26:56Speaker 1: let's go. I'm Jordan's freaking Love here. I'm dying. I
- 26:59Speaker 1: mean in the game, I like out, but like me,
- 27:06Speaker 1: you trade me, you know, trade me right now. I
- 27:09Speaker 1: think they have already made the decision in their minds.
- 27:12Speaker 1: They're just waiting for Aaron Rodgers to get on board
- 27:14Speaker 1: and figure out where he wants to go. That's what
- 27:17Speaker 1: I think. But what if he want to stay? He's
- 27:20Speaker 1: playing Footsie's with the Jets? Yeah, what if? What if
- 27:22Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers says, now, you know what, I want to stay.
- 27:25Speaker 1: I don't think the Packers to sit over there and
- 27:27Speaker 1: watch Jordan Love play. Yeah, that's what I if. I
- 27:31Speaker 1: agree with Evan. I don't think the Packers wanted to stay.
- 27:34Speaker 1: And that's how you get rid of them. Yeah, yeah,
- 27:36Speaker 1: you can stay, we'll pay you, but you're not gonna play.
- 27:39Speaker 1: What a situation? What are bay again? Yeah? I think
- 27:43Speaker 1: I really think, like maybe Jordan Love is going to
- 27:45Speaker 1: be good. But if he isn't, I think that the
- 27:48Speaker 1: Packers could really it could be a sinking ship. It
- 27:53Speaker 1: could be the same thing as the Patriots the quarterback.
- 27:55Speaker 1: But I mean, I don't even think they'll be like
- 27:57Speaker 1: middle middle link like the Patres have been. I think
- 28:01Speaker 1: they'd be like a four win team. I think they'd
- 28:05Speaker 1: be like the Cam Newton Patriots terrible. Even even the
- 28:08Speaker 1: Cam Newton Patriots weren't a four win team, all right,
- 28:10Speaker 1: they won seven? Okay, Yeah, so that really I like
- 28:14Speaker 1: with Shawn Garry, it isn't the draft order. Yeah, it's
- 28:18Speaker 1: a great quarterback class next start or two. I mean,
- 28:22Speaker 1: I think that um, Green Bay is I'm with Evan.
- 28:26Speaker 1: I think Green Bay has decided they want to move
- 28:28Speaker 1: on now. If it turns out that Rogers can still
- 28:32Speaker 1: play right and at Love can't, it's gonna be just
- 28:35Speaker 1: like the Patriots situation, and they're gonna get a lot
- 28:38Speaker 1: of criticism for intentionally pulling the plug before they had to.
- 28:41Speaker 1: But I think I think, just like the Patriots, they're
- 28:44Speaker 1: you know, if Rogers leaves and Love isn't the guy,
- 28:47Speaker 1: they're gonna find out, like a lot of teams do,
- 28:49Speaker 1: how much that quarterback actually meant to win. And the
- 28:52Speaker 1: only thing I would say, in Green Bay's defense over
- 28:55Speaker 1: in New England's at least they had a plan. They
- 28:58Speaker 1: had they had a guy on like on the team
- 29:01Speaker 1: that they drafted in the first round. They developed for
- 29:04Speaker 1: a couple of years, and they're ready to put you know,
- 29:06Speaker 1: hand the range. So now there's no guarantees that he
- 29:08Speaker 1: can play, right, But the Patriots had nothing right, no,
- 29:14Speaker 1: I know, and then eight years later they pulled the
- 29:16Speaker 1: plug on Brady. Brady screwed it up by keep staying good.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, but we winning, yeah, you know, didn't care
- 29:27Speaker 1: for it, you know, yeah, I wanted to start over.
- 29:30Speaker 1: So all right, all that's on the table. Eight five
- 29:33Speaker 1: five Pats five hundred is the A sticket hot line,
- 29:35Speaker 1: web radio at Patriots dot com is the email address. Yeah. So,
- 29:41Speaker 1: you know, locally, like the Bruins and the Celtics have
- 29:44Speaker 1: been dominating the headlines, it's a little bit the Red Sox,
- 29:47Speaker 1: you know, because they're starting to play exhibition ball. But uh,
- 29:51Speaker 1: I got a feeling like Patriots are you know, in football,
- 29:54Speaker 1: are going to start becoming front and center really quickly. Again.
- 29:57Speaker 1: I'm really feeling the week that they pushed the Super
- 29:59Speaker 1: Bowl back right now because it just feels like we
- 30:02Speaker 1: were just at the combine and now it's like free
- 30:04Speaker 1: agency is right on the doorstep, and next week's going
- 30:07Speaker 1: to be crazy with all the movements. I mean starting
- 30:10Speaker 1: I mean probably over the weekend, right, Like we'll probably
- 30:11Speaker 1: start to hear like, yeah, rumblings over the weekend and
- 30:14Speaker 1: then you'll really start to get reports on Monday. So
- 30:17Speaker 1: I don't know, it's just really kind of condensed and
- 30:19Speaker 1: packed in between, you know, especially for US Shrine Bowl,
- 30:22Speaker 1: Senior Bowl, Combine, free agency, and you know then you're
- 30:25Speaker 1: gonna hit this dead period for for a month and
- 30:26Speaker 1: a half until the draft. So it's just it's just interesting.
- 30:29Speaker 1: New schedule just feels a little bit more dense to
- 30:31Speaker 1: me than than before. I mean a difference. I think
- 30:34Speaker 1: there's people in the league that feel that way, really,
- 30:36Speaker 1: and they would prefer to push free agency back a
- 30:39Speaker 1: couple of weeks and push the draft back maybe into
- 30:42Speaker 1: early May and give some more time because I think
- 30:46Speaker 1: a big reason why the Patriots coaching staff wasn't really
- 30:49Speaker 1: front and center in Indianapolis is because of how condensed
- 30:52Speaker 1: everything is. So it's do you go to the combine
- 30:55Speaker 1: and waste your time, not waste your time, but spend
- 30:57Speaker 1: your time on meetings and why guys run a forty
- 31:01Speaker 1: yard dash? Or do you stay here and watch film
- 31:03Speaker 1: of free agents? Right? Like, that's it's a difficult decision
- 31:07Speaker 1: to make, I think for a lot of teams and
- 31:09Speaker 1: focus on your in person one on one workouts and
- 31:12Speaker 1: interviews and all. And I wonder if because there's a
- 31:16Speaker 1: lot of different things that have been thrown out there,
- 31:17Speaker 1: and I think there's probably some truth to all of them.
- 31:19Speaker 1: And they've talked about the changes to the Combine schedule itself,
- 31:23Speaker 1: like having all the you know this now it's completely
- 31:26Speaker 1: geared to NFL network at night, and that doesn't really
- 31:30Speaker 1: that's not really conducive for the teams, so it sort
- 31:33Speaker 1: of cuts into their time their productivity, And like Evan said,
- 31:37Speaker 1: why not just stay back and do the work here
- 31:39Speaker 1: as opposed to sitting in your hotel and doing the work.
- 31:41Speaker 1: You can watch the workouts at night, you know, on TV.
- 31:46Speaker 1: And then I just think that's it's sort of a
- 31:49Speaker 1: growing d emphasis of the entire process. Which was funny
- 31:54Speaker 1: because I thought the hype of the players this year
- 31:56Speaker 1: was through the roof more so maybe it's because I
- 32:00Speaker 1: wasn't there and maybe I was more like seeing more
- 32:03Speaker 1: of it as opposed to just sort of being there
- 32:05Speaker 1: and then someone, you know, Mike will say like, hey,
- 32:07Speaker 1: do you see what they said about Scarronsky And they're like, no,
- 32:09Speaker 1: I don't know what happened. Now you're sort of seeing
- 32:11Speaker 1: everything they said about Scarronsky as it happens. So maybe
- 32:14Speaker 1: I feel like it's more hype and it isn't. But
- 32:16Speaker 1: I mean that that Anthony Richardson stuff about him jumping,
- 32:20Speaker 1: Like I'm like, what are we doing here? Like what
- 32:22Speaker 1: does that have to do with being a quarterback? Like, yeah,
- 32:26Speaker 1: it happens every year. But the over emphasis on the testing,
- 32:30Speaker 1: I know, doesn't really line up with a d emphasis
- 32:35Speaker 1: on the amount of coaches there. And I also think
- 32:38Speaker 1: the Patriots presence at the Shrine Bowl into a lesser
- 32:42Speaker 1: extent the Senior Bowl. At some point, something's got to
- 32:45Speaker 1: go that we have to prepare. We like, Toaven's point,
- 32:48Speaker 1: we got to watch some of these free agents and
- 32:50Speaker 1: figure out what direction and figure out our pro day schedule.
- 32:54Speaker 1: Do you think that reaction though the testing is kind
- 32:56Speaker 1: of more a fan blogger kind of thing than teams,
- 32:59Speaker 1: like you know, like I think teams That's a great
- 33:01Speaker 1: question because I don't know all the names of the people.
- 33:04Speaker 1: You know, you guys do because you're more in that world,
- 33:08Speaker 1: Like is that what it is the guys that are
- 33:09Speaker 1: tweeting about this stuff more though this is a fan
- 33:12Speaker 1: blogger types. This is a media driven event at this point.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Is it a television show? Yes, it has nothing to
- 33:18Speaker 1: do with the teams. It's just And that's why I
- 33:20Speaker 1: love it is because it gives us something to cover
- 33:22Speaker 1: in the middle of the offseason that we wouldn't normally
- 33:25Speaker 1: have anything to make fun of it. Like listen, I
- 33:28Speaker 1: was there Rover like twenty I was twenty years in
- 33:30Speaker 1: a row doing that thing, and I listen, it's it
- 33:34Speaker 1: was monotonous. There's a plaque on the webber grill, no doubt.
- 33:38Speaker 1: There's definitely a middle like Bradley were sitting spent about
- 33:43Speaker 1: eight hours watching the combine at the bar another like
- 33:47Speaker 1: I'm not trying to come off like literally I'm above that. No,
- 33:50Speaker 1: And like no, I did it and I got something
- 33:52Speaker 1: out of it every year. I went every year. But
- 33:54Speaker 1: it's a content driven driving machine. And I would also
- 33:58Speaker 1: say that teams now have access to all this like
- 34:01Speaker 1: Zebra technology or next gen where they can actually track
- 34:05Speaker 1: how fast guys are moving in game, and so they
- 34:07Speaker 1: don't need the forty because they can sit there and say,
- 34:09Speaker 1: the game, you know they're getting JSN ran a top
- 34:13Speaker 1: speed of twenty miles an hour on this catch and run.
- 34:16Speaker 1: You know that's what he can open up to in
- 34:17Speaker 1: a game. So you know, I'm right while I was
- 34:20Speaker 1: getting chased by the defense, So why do we need
- 34:22Speaker 1: the forty yard dash? But for somebody like me that
- 34:25Speaker 1: doesn't have access to that type of stuff, the combine
- 34:28Speaker 1: can confirm a lot of priors, like this guy's not
- 34:30Speaker 1: very fast. This guy is very fast, and I see
- 34:32Speaker 1: him put up a good forty time, and then I
- 34:34Speaker 1: can sit there and say, okay, well that they translated
- 34:36Speaker 1: he's got legit speed, and I get used to back
- 34:38Speaker 1: in the day before all this technology came up, I
- 34:42Speaker 1: was laughing, who was the guard? I don't know if
- 34:44Speaker 1: it was even defensive offense. He ran like a four
- 34:46Speaker 1: seven like he was trucking? Was it osiris torres? I forget?
- 34:51Speaker 1: But they're like, oh my god, look at this guy,
- 34:53Speaker 1: And I'm thinking, like, okay, when's he going to run
- 34:55Speaker 1: a forty yard Yeah? Well what about the poor offensive
- 34:59Speaker 1: lineman that torres. So offensive line's all about the ten
- 35:03Speaker 1: yards split. Yeah, right, so that first ten yards is
- 35:06Speaker 1: like it measures your explosiveness out of your stance and
- 35:09Speaker 1: like off the line of scrimmage, so that that ten
- 35:12Speaker 1: yards split is more important. So I've always thought, why
- 35:15Speaker 1: attack on the extra like make them let them run
- 35:18Speaker 1: a flying twenty, right, because like, why why run a
- 35:20Speaker 1: full forty? They're not going to run a full forty,
- 35:22Speaker 1: And all it does is get guys hurt. Like every
- 35:25Speaker 1: year somebody gets hurt running a three hundred ten pound
- 35:28Speaker 1: lineman running forty yards as fast as he can pulls
- 35:30Speaker 1: a hamstring or something like that. So the lineman can
- 35:34Speaker 1: run twenty yards, let's see what they are in the
- 35:36Speaker 1: first ten yards. I really think that they should tailor
- 35:39Speaker 1: the drills to the position. Yeah, I mean the like
- 35:43Speaker 1: on field stuff other than the running and jumping stuff.
- 35:45Speaker 1: I mean they do. And I think that's you know,
- 35:46Speaker 1: some of the fun of just seeing how athletic these
- 35:49Speaker 1: guys are, at least for like you know, Roderick Jones
- 35:51Speaker 1: and Paris Johnson, the two top tackles, Like you just
- 35:53Speaker 1: see how athletic I really need to know how many
- 35:56Speaker 1: like kicksteps and you know, doing their thing, But how
- 35:58Speaker 1: many bench presses a quarterback do? Man? You know, no,
- 36:01Speaker 1: but that you know, But I think those things too
- 36:03Speaker 1: for some of the other positions show what guys a
- 36:05Speaker 1: lot of them don't do that hit the way Brady Quinn.
- 36:08Speaker 1: There are some certain thresholds though that still hold up.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Like and it's more specific, I would say, than it is.
- 36:14Speaker 1: You know, ten yards split for offensive linemen or agility
- 36:18Speaker 1: drills for receivers and corners like that type of stuff.
- 36:21Speaker 1: You know, three cone short shuttle like those things still produced,
- 36:25Speaker 1: you know, explosive in the jumps, Like if you have
- 36:28Speaker 1: a great vertical then you're probably a pretty explosive guy
- 36:31Speaker 1: in your lower half. Like that stuff does I think translate.
- 36:34Speaker 1: But I think it more educates us, like the media
- 36:37Speaker 1: and people like me that cover the draft than it does.
- 36:39Speaker 1: I think the teams already know all this stuff going
- 36:41Speaker 1: into the combine. They don't need to combine. It's into it.
- 36:44Speaker 1: But but that sends that's said. I think you know,
- 36:47Speaker 1: Bryce Young was listed at six foot in Alabama and
- 36:51Speaker 1: he came in at five ten, right, you know, the
- 36:54Speaker 1: measurements are big. I stood next to him, and I'm tall.
- 36:56Speaker 1: I think I'm officially five eleven and a half and
- 36:59Speaker 1: I was like, i'mgger than yeah, like I did five
- 37:02Speaker 1: ten and three quarters or something like that, an eighth.
- 37:04Speaker 1: He's small, he's like fun, He's like Kyler Yeah, he's
- 37:07Speaker 1: he's really small. And he doesn't run like Kyla Murray
- 37:09Speaker 1: no either. I feel like he's an Aaron Rodgers type
- 37:12Speaker 1: athlete though, like that kind of just natural oh athletic skill.
- 37:16Speaker 1: He's great off platform. I think he does have a
- 37:21Speaker 1: little bit of Mahomes to his ability to extend plays
- 37:24Speaker 1: and make plays outside the pocket. I don't think he's
- 37:26Speaker 1: got the arm that Mahomes has, but he has that
- 37:28Speaker 1: ability to just like that magician, you know, slip out
- 37:31Speaker 1: of a sack and get on the outside. I mean
- 37:34Speaker 1: it's a great example though. We were watching it, I
- 37:36Speaker 1: think at the airport, and they did you know. I
- 37:38Speaker 1: love when they do the forties and they match up
- 37:40Speaker 1: like guys from all time, you know, like that like
- 37:42Speaker 1: the technology. I just think that's so cool. You can
- 37:43Speaker 1: see guys from the past run And they showed Anthony Richardson,
- 37:46Speaker 1: but then they showed like Patrick Holmes would even like
- 37:48Speaker 1: a four eight yeah, and you're like, oh, man, like
- 37:50Speaker 1: it doesn't matter, Like it doesn't matter. The guy can play,
- 37:53Speaker 1: he can run. And where did you ever see Patrick
- 37:55Speaker 1: Mahomes running for a first down and get chased down
- 37:58Speaker 1: from behind? Nope, nope, he's not. He's not overly fast, right,
- 38:03Speaker 1: but he's got the same forty speed as Mac Jones.
- 38:06Speaker 1: He has football speed. Yeah, yeah, he does all right.
- 38:09Speaker 1: Eight five five past five hundred is the as Ticket
- 38:11Speaker 1: Hotline web radio at Patrice dot com. Let's get to
- 38:14Speaker 1: our listeners see what's on their mind. Patty's an agawam
- 38:17Speaker 1: on the as Ticket Hotline. What's up, Patty? Hey, it's
- 38:20Speaker 1: up everyone. Hey Batty, I wanted to throw a couple
- 38:23Speaker 1: of questions at you. With Orlando Brown not being franchised,
- 38:27Speaker 1: I've been I've been on this guy's wagon for I
- 38:31Speaker 1: think like a couple of seasons. Now. I'd love to
- 38:33Speaker 1: see the Patriots draft him, I mean find him a
- 38:36Speaker 1: free agency. I wanted to get your opinion on whether
- 38:38Speaker 1: you guys would want to draft a younger tackle or
- 38:41Speaker 1: to possibly sign this blocked back by yup? Do both
- 38:44Speaker 1: prove and he can play? Do both? And yeah, I
- 38:48Speaker 1: mean I wouldn't mind getting the right tackle two later on.
- 38:51Speaker 1: But yeah, any any Himians two one, possibly Rashad Bateman
- 38:55Speaker 1: who seems to be disgruntled. Oh um, I mean, I'll
- 38:58Speaker 1: just go at the top. I'm not really in love
- 39:00Speaker 1: with any of the free agent stuff, but I would
- 39:01Speaker 1: be okay investing in a tackle. I don't love Orlando Brown,
- 39:04Speaker 1: but in free agency, I don't just throw that out there.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Tell me why. I don't know, not not only my
- 39:10Speaker 1: kind of guy. I didn't like coming out big. I
- 39:12Speaker 1: just prefer big. Um. I just I got a hard
- 39:17Speaker 1: time with the tackles in this class. I don't think.
- 39:19Speaker 1: I don't think that the top two guys are gonna
- 39:21Speaker 1: get there. I'm off Skeronsky now I think Evan's still
- 39:24Speaker 1: on him. Um. You know, I think you're gonna have
- 39:26Speaker 1: to look at your at your second pick potentially for that,
- 39:29Speaker 1: and it's unfortunate. I'd love to have those top two guys.
- 39:32Speaker 1: So I I just I think I'm pulling back on
- 39:34Speaker 1: the whole tackle thing. I definitely still want to draft one.
- 39:36Speaker 1: I think there's some good depth in there, but i'd
- 39:39Speaker 1: be okay going free agency. I know, I know the
- 39:41Speaker 1: knock on Scarronsky is his arm length, But can he
- 39:44Speaker 1: make up for that with foot? You know, quick feet,
- 39:47Speaker 1: I mean, you know, great, great feet. Yeah, great, So
- 39:50Speaker 1: this would be probably a good little thing that me
- 39:52Speaker 1: and Evan could probably argue about. My thing was to
- 39:54Speaker 1: be great because I'm gonna throw Kerosene on the fire. No,
- 39:59Speaker 1: I think killed. He'll agree me, though. My thing with
- 40:01Speaker 1: Scaranty is, you took a guard in the first round
- 40:03Speaker 1: last year. You can't miss again. All right now. I
- 40:04Speaker 1: know he'll probably be okay, but you cannot miss on
- 40:07Speaker 1: this pick and end up with guard Peter Scronsky. Yeah,
- 40:10Speaker 1: it's it's it's it's a death sentence for this office.
- 40:12Speaker 1: You can't do it. If you want him to play
- 40:14Speaker 1: tackle and he can't play tackle. I agree, right, But
- 40:18Speaker 1: I also agree when Rashawn Slater same school a couple
- 40:22Speaker 1: of years ago, a lot of people said the same thing,
- 40:24Speaker 1: and he's been a really good tack That's fine. You
- 40:26Speaker 1: can take you took your you took your swing on
- 40:30Speaker 1: offensive line last year. But they're gonna take a swing
- 40:33Speaker 1: on Cole Strange as a tackle. No, they took a
- 40:36Speaker 1: swing on an offensive line. So if they don't think
- 40:38Speaker 1: that your guy can play tackle, then I would wholeheartedly
- 40:40Speaker 1: be on team Deuce. I don't want to take a
- 40:43Speaker 1: guard at fourteen. But for me, it's too much of
- 40:49Speaker 1: a risk. I think you I just I don't. I
- 40:50Speaker 1: don't want to do it. I'd rather I think there
- 40:52Speaker 1: are other needs. I think there are other players, and
- 40:54Speaker 1: I like the kid, but I just think you need talent.
- 40:58Speaker 1: This is where you get talent. This is the highest
- 40:59Speaker 1: Peaky had and you're gonna take one on a guy
- 41:01Speaker 1: who can probably play tackle for you, all right? Was
- 41:04Speaker 1: that the biggest problem last year? Because we couldn't protect
- 41:07Speaker 1: mac Jones enough? That was the problem, Like everybody says,
- 41:10Speaker 1: I mean they're right tackle situation was a problem. It was,
- 41:13Speaker 1: But you don't think mc dermott off the Jets practice
- 41:15Speaker 1: squad was the best right tackle that they had. And
- 41:17Speaker 1: you know, I know they resigned him and he'll be
- 41:20Speaker 1: great depth. But I hope we're not settled on him
- 41:22Speaker 1: at But I'm not interested in paying twenty plus million
- 41:26Speaker 1: for Orlando Brown annually and using a first round pick
- 41:30Speaker 1: on a tackle like that's a lot of no cats. No,
- 41:33Speaker 1: that's silly, that's silly. So you know there's value in
- 41:36Speaker 1: having the it's a premium position. Right, So there's value
- 41:39Speaker 1: in having it on a rookie contract just in itself. Now,
- 41:41Speaker 1: you have to have a good player, so you can't
- 41:43Speaker 1: just look at it just that way. But I think
- 41:45Speaker 1: the tackles in this draft, I do agree with Mike
- 41:48Speaker 1: on this. I we might disagree a little bit on Scronsky,
- 41:50Speaker 1: but I agree that they're kind of in the middle
- 41:53Speaker 1: right now of the tackle class where they're probably gonna
- 41:56Speaker 1: miss out on Broder Jones and Paris Johnson, but they're
- 41:59Speaker 1: probably a little bit you early for the next wave
- 42:01Speaker 1: of tackles as well. So this might be a vintage
- 42:04Speaker 1: Belichick trade down draft, right. It might be, And that's
- 42:07Speaker 1: fine if that's the way it unfolds, because and this
- 42:09Speaker 1: is part of like what makes it hard. Everybody just says, like,
- 42:12Speaker 1: you know, let's take Scronsky in the first round, let's
- 42:15Speaker 1: take Jones in the first round. It that's great when
- 42:18Speaker 1: they're available. The part of the draft that's really hard
- 42:23Speaker 1: is identifying what everybody else is going to do. Right, Okay,
- 42:27Speaker 1: there are a lot of teams, I think, without knowing anything,
- 42:30Speaker 1: there are a lot of teams that need tackles in
- 42:32Speaker 1: front of them. Yep, Yeah, that's a problem. Yep, go ahead.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Why it's head. If you get the quarterbacks off the board,
- 42:38Speaker 1: maybe someone that needs to tackle takes go ahead, Daddy Richardson. Yeah,
- 42:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna say, let's not forget that out of Orlando
- 42:46Speaker 1: Brown senior in Cleveland too, so he's got you know,
- 42:49Speaker 1: probably got a little bit better insight on him, on
- 42:51Speaker 1: him than maybe most other teams. Yeah, yeah, I'm terrified
- 42:58Speaker 1: of giving Orlando Brown a big contra. I just like
- 43:01Speaker 1: big guy. Why why is he going on his third team? Yeah?
- 43:06Speaker 1: That Kansas City re ups him because they felt like
- 43:11Speaker 1: he fit in well with them. That makes sense to me.
- 43:13Speaker 1: They had him, but Baltimore and I know that Baltimore
- 43:16Speaker 1: had Ronnie Stanley before he got hurt. They kind of
- 43:19Speaker 1: when they let this all happen or you know, as
- 43:21Speaker 1: that was happening. But to me, three teams in what
- 43:24Speaker 1: six years? That to me is I just feel like
- 43:27Speaker 1: a guy with twenty plus million, that's it's gonna cost
- 43:30Speaker 1: you a lot of money. He got franchised. Yeah, so
- 43:33Speaker 1: it's not like you're gonna like get him, you know
- 43:35Speaker 1: in the favorite Patriot fan way. Can we get him
- 43:40Speaker 1: in on on a team friendly contract? Every single ASPFW
- 43:43Speaker 1: we get now has the term team friendly or a
- 43:48Speaker 1: one year prove it deal. Those phrases are in every question.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Why is that all we want? Right? I just feel
- 43:54Speaker 1: like when you are that size, if your foot speed
- 43:58Speaker 1: starts to decline, because you already don't have great foot speed,
- 44:01Speaker 1: and if your foot speed starts to decline at all,
- 44:04Speaker 1: then you get your whole game goes. And if you're
- 44:06Speaker 1: the team that's paying him for four or five years
- 44:08Speaker 1: at a high number, I just I like, I really
- 44:10Speaker 1: like the right tackles in free agency, though I think
- 44:13Speaker 1: Tyrant Smith a free agent now, No, I think mcglinchy
- 44:18Speaker 1: and uh and Caleb McGarry from Atlanta could come in
- 44:20Speaker 1: and play right tackle for the Patriots at a really
- 44:22Speaker 1: high level. So I like those two guys. McGarry's a
- 44:25Speaker 1: guy that I think would make some sense too, I
- 44:27Speaker 1: think but glinchy might be a little too expensive too.
- 44:29Speaker 1: But like I get, you know, and I wouldn't be
- 44:33Speaker 1: I wouldn't be pissed off if they signed McGlinchey. I
- 44:35Speaker 1: think that feels a need. I mean, that would be
- 44:37Speaker 1: a good target. You know, a good player, give him
- 44:40Speaker 1: the money and he comes in. I look at mcglinchy too,
- 44:43Speaker 1: is feels your need. He was the ninth overall pick
- 44:45Speaker 1: in his draft. It's a Stefan Gilmour, right, Like you
- 44:48Speaker 1: loved him in the draft, but you weren't high enough
- 44:51Speaker 1: in the draft to take him, and now you get
- 44:52Speaker 1: him in free agency. That's the right I would go.
- 44:54Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I know Trump Brown has some
- 44:56Speaker 1: awarts and some question marks. Trump Brown, mcglinchy done. You know,
- 45:00Speaker 1: maybe grab a guy well done third round season and
- 45:04Speaker 1: then we'll go tap the Jets to practice. I know
- 45:07Speaker 1: I didn't Trump roun play the whole season last year. Yeah,
- 45:09Speaker 1: but how many games did he play but didn't play
- 45:12Speaker 1: half the season? How many games did he not come
- 45:14Speaker 1: out on the field for games? It's starting to snap
- 45:18Speaker 1: before it even started. It's a good point, though, but
- 45:21Speaker 1: about maybe you plug and play at right tackle and
- 45:25Speaker 1: then you use Trent somewhere as a stop gap either
- 45:28Speaker 1: on the left or the right side, and then you
- 45:30Speaker 1: draft like a Jaalen Duncan or a Tyler Steen or
- 45:32Speaker 1: something like that on Day two and that's more of
- 45:35Speaker 1: your long term, hopefully long term fit at tackle. Did
- 45:38Speaker 1: you take a receiver that's sexy Thompson Connecticut. What's up,
- 45:43Speaker 1: Tom's stay, guys, what you're doing good? Hey? Hey, So, um,
- 45:49Speaker 1: I just had a question for you guys. So, I know,
- 45:51Speaker 1: we picked up Time Montgomery last year and he's been injured. Um.
- 45:54Speaker 1: From what I remember, I thought he was like a
- 45:56Speaker 1: pretty outstanding player. I'm just kind of surprised that there's
- 46:00Speaker 1: more talk about him. I just wanted to hear your
- 46:01Speaker 1: opinion on that, to find pretty outstanding. He's a good player.
- 46:04Speaker 1: I mean, kind of a journeyman receiver, running back, multiple team. Yeah,
- 46:08Speaker 1: I mean we were all hoping that he would fill
- 46:10Speaker 1: that third down kind of role here and he never
- 46:14Speaker 1: got me like double injuries. It was like he got
- 46:16Speaker 1: hurt in preseason, you thought he was done and somehow
- 46:18Speaker 1: he didn't. And but then he came from Miami and
- 46:20Speaker 1: got hurt in Miami and was out. But like I thought,
- 46:22Speaker 1: he looked pretty good last summer. He looked one of
- 46:23Speaker 1: the only guys comfortable running wide zone with his team
- 46:26Speaker 1: and you know, consistently got to the sideline and went
- 46:28Speaker 1: to tell you what he could do. He played one
- 46:30Speaker 1: one half of one game the first training but like
- 46:37Speaker 1: we were definitely hoping for contract and training kids too. Yeah,
- 46:41Speaker 1: I didn't see the same guy when the regular game started.
- 46:43Speaker 1: You know, Montgomery was definitely on our all out radars
- 46:46Speaker 1: as you know, a possible contributed to the offense last year. Definitely. Yeah,
- 46:50Speaker 1: you know, I'll do a lot of stuff. Good fit, Yeah,
- 46:52Speaker 1: good receiver a little bit. At this point, would you
- 46:54Speaker 1: recommend keeping him or just getting rid? Oh? Yeah, he's
- 46:57Speaker 1: a contract. He's on a contract. See where he's at.
- 46:59Speaker 1: I mean, I I don't. I wouldn't avoid drafting, though,
- 47:02Speaker 1: can I can I see what happens in the draft? First? Yeah, dud?
- 47:06Speaker 1: Say can I get my guy? Dud? There's only there
- 47:10Speaker 1: can be only one get him in the fourth or
- 47:13Speaker 1: fifth round. Take the last day at the combine, me
- 47:17Speaker 1: and Mike are just zombies, right and we're talking about
- 47:20Speaker 1: running backs and I look at him and I go
- 47:22Speaker 1: Deuce and he's like what I was Like? I was
- 47:26Speaker 1: talking about Duce Vaughan and he didn't get the joke.
- 47:28Speaker 1: And I interpreted, is I just missed something or screwed something?
- 47:31Speaker 1: Like Deuce? Like what are you doing? Like don't say that?
- 47:34Speaker 1: Like God, Like what what what I do? What I do? Uh?
- 47:37Speaker 1: Thanks Tom, Let's go to uh William and philam what's up, William?
- 47:44Speaker 1: You know? Yeah, yeah, you're right, You're in Philly, get hurt. Yeah,
- 47:54Speaker 1: I'm just putting it. Okay, um guy, so can you
- 48:01Speaker 1: tell me, um, like, who was the Patriots looking at
- 48:04Speaker 1: specifically in terms of um for for my receiver and
- 48:09Speaker 1: and the corners? And then two do you think, I mean,
- 48:13Speaker 1: do y'all think, honestly will Bill do something to stop
- 48:16Speaker 1: in terms of pre adency and the drift? I mean,
- 48:19Speaker 1: pick the right players when he signed some some freemium players,
- 48:23Speaker 1: you know, but I know it. Yeah, I hear what
- 48:25Speaker 1: you're saying. Yeah, So in terms of who they're looking at,
- 48:29Speaker 1: they're looking at everybody who they really like? We have
- 48:32Speaker 1: no idea, No, we have no idea. But but I
- 48:35Speaker 1: think Evans should tell his story about talking to Quentin Johnson,
- 48:38Speaker 1: because I'm sure Eldred's out there somewhere listening and he's
- 48:40Speaker 1: gonna get all yeah we already. Yeah, so good though.
- 48:47Speaker 1: I wrote something about this on Patriots dot com and
- 48:49Speaker 1: I I was able to to have some one on
- 48:52Speaker 1: one time with Quentin Johnston after his podium at the Combine,
- 48:57Speaker 1: and I asked him if you met with the Patriots?
- 49:00Speaker 1: Said yes, and he said that he stopped and he goes. Actually,
- 49:03Speaker 1: I think that was my favorite meeting in Indy out
- 49:06Speaker 1: of any of the teams I met with, probably twenty teams,
- 49:08Speaker 1: because he's a you know, really highly touted guy, so
- 49:11Speaker 1: he's very popular around the league. Met with like twenty teams.
- 49:14Speaker 1: I thought, I vibe with the Patriots guys the absolute
- 49:17Speaker 1: best out of anybody that I spoke with him. No,
- 49:24Speaker 1: not on hiring on him as a player, higher on
- 49:26Speaker 1: him as as a guy though, Like I think that,
- 49:28Speaker 1: you know, he definitely came across as uh, humble, but
- 49:32Speaker 1: alpha e right, which is what the kind of want
- 49:35Speaker 1: in that receiver, Like William, I don't know what's going
- 49:38Speaker 1: on there, I'm gonna but you can listen. Yeah, yeah,
- 49:41Speaker 1: you know, you don't want him to be cocky, but
- 49:44Speaker 1: you want him to be I'm a dude, like I
- 49:46Speaker 1: I'm in alpha right, and he was definitely like that.
- 49:49Speaker 1: I like it. I asked him a little bit about
- 49:51Speaker 1: his route running, and I still have a lot of
- 49:53Speaker 1: concerns about that because the answers that he gave me,
- 49:56Speaker 1: we're not uninformed. But he just was talking about how
- 49:59Speaker 1: all of his routes were pretty much locked right. So
- 50:03Speaker 1: like you run a hit, you run a hit, you
- 50:04Speaker 1: run a vertical, you run an option. There's no options,
- 50:07Speaker 1: there's no conversions or nothing like that. So that that
- 50:10Speaker 1: gave me a little bit of pause. I was hoping
- 50:12Speaker 1: he was going to tell me, well, yeah, like, if
- 50:14Speaker 1: you know, the corner was playing off of me, I
- 50:16Speaker 1: had the option to sit it down in front of
- 50:18Speaker 1: him or something like that. And he said no, My
- 50:21Speaker 1: my routes were all locked at at TCU And I
- 50:23Speaker 1: was like, uh, okay, is that a fault or is
- 50:27Speaker 1: you know that's coaching or they didn't think it. But
- 50:30Speaker 1: I think Evan's point is that that would require more development.
- 50:33Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, I just think that it would be
- 50:37Speaker 1: would I that And you just look at you know
- 50:39Speaker 1: the fact that he processes things quickly and like understands, Okay,
- 50:44Speaker 1: this corner is bailing out or this corner is playing
- 50:47Speaker 1: uh off of me, and so I'm gonna have have
- 50:49Speaker 1: I come out of my stance hard on a vertical.
- 50:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna have that opportunity to hit hitch this down
- 50:54Speaker 1: at like eight yards or something like that and make
- 50:56Speaker 1: an easy catch. Uh. Those are the types of things
- 50:59Speaker 1: that they asked them to do. You're those are the
- 51:01Speaker 1: types of things that I think you do at the
- 51:02Speaker 1: next level in general when it comes to route running.
- 51:04Speaker 1: So so to you know, to Billy and Philly's other question,
- 51:08Speaker 1: um about do you think Belichick this year will target
- 51:12Speaker 1: premium free agents? You know, the top of the class.
- 51:17Speaker 1: You know, who knows? I mean it's hard to tell.
- 51:19Speaker 1: They money isn't an issue, right, I mean they have
- 51:24Speaker 1: they even if you believe the cap isn't crap, they have.
- 51:27Speaker 1: Space is not an issue, right, They've they've I don't
- 51:29Speaker 1: know if money is. Yeah, they've got space to do it.
- 51:31Speaker 1: So that's not an issue. I don't know, I don't know.
- 51:34Speaker 1: But going back to so the answer to the other
- 51:37Speaker 1: question is you know, not surprisingly who knows. But going
- 51:41Speaker 1: back to what you were talking about, Evan in terms
- 51:43Speaker 1: of you know, wide receivers and who talked to the Patriots.
- 51:47Speaker 1: You talk to Matt grow as well as well as
- 51:49Speaker 1: our team, and and he said, if you want to
- 51:52Speaker 1: get the top player, the top receivers, you got to
- 51:57Speaker 1: you gotta spend some money. Yeah, he definitely, he has
- 52:01Speaker 1: the right eye, like he's he understands the market obviously,
- 52:06Speaker 1: as he shouldn't given the position that he's in in
- 52:08Speaker 1: the organization, and you know, some of the other things
- 52:11Speaker 1: that you hear about are mac being on a rookie
- 52:14Speaker 1: contract and maximizing this window and making sure that you
- 52:17Speaker 1: take advantage of the fact that you have a quarterback
- 52:21Speaker 1: on a cheaper number, because eventually that might not be
- 52:25Speaker 1: the case, like if back plays well in year three,
- 52:28Speaker 1: in year four, you might end up being in a
- 52:29Speaker 1: situation where at the very least you're paying him Derek
- 52:32Speaker 1: Carr Daniel Jones level money if you want to keep him.
- 52:36Speaker 1: So I think that that the things that you did
- 52:39Speaker 1: hear though at the combine was that they would prefer
- 52:42Speaker 1: not to use the fourteenth overall pick on a wide receiver.
- 52:45Speaker 1: And maybe it's it's more of a trade like the
- 52:49Speaker 1: forty sixth pick for a veteran or something like that
- 52:52Speaker 1: that would be an enticing option for them, but he said,
- 52:57Speaker 1: a point blank if you want premium talent at a
- 53:00Speaker 1: playmaking position like wide receiver, it comes out of premium
- 53:04Speaker 1: in today's NFL. And you know, for a long time
- 53:07Speaker 1: on this team, and let's face it, you know, sort
- 53:10Speaker 1: of the company line was, you know, it doesn't always
- 53:12Speaker 1: work out when you know the teams have spent all
- 53:14Speaker 1: that money don't always win, and which is true. But
- 53:19Speaker 1: now that you don't have Tom Brady, you kind of
- 53:22Speaker 1: have to rethink things a little bit, you know. I mean,
- 53:24Speaker 1: I think the trademarket is interesting, you know, And is
- 53:27Speaker 1: there somebody that nobody's even really thinking about that could
- 53:29Speaker 1: possibly move the needle? I don't know. I need stay
- 53:33Speaker 1: just generally, I don't have high expectations for next week.
- 53:35Speaker 1: I would like I said, I'd be all for investing
- 53:37Speaker 1: in the tackle spot. You talk about getting a new
- 53:39Speaker 1: offensive line coach in, you know, are you ready to
- 53:42Speaker 1: just throw a rookie to this? You know Adrian Climb,
- 53:44Speaker 1: I know you like him, You've hired him reportedly, So
- 53:49Speaker 1: I think I'd prefer to go to the veteran route.
- 53:51Speaker 1: But you know, I just I wonder about how do
- 53:52Speaker 1: we feel a long term about Kyle Dugger, How do
- 53:54Speaker 1: we feel a long term about Josh Uchi? How do
- 53:56Speaker 1: we feel long term about Michael m When you know,
- 53:58Speaker 1: just a few guys who you know potentially in other
- 54:00Speaker 1: organizations might have earned second contracts and might be under
- 54:03Speaker 1: consideration for an extension, you know, those kind of things
- 54:05Speaker 1: I think might go a little bit farther from me
- 54:07Speaker 1: that have thoughts are no more valuable. We'll get back
- 54:09Speaker 1: to it later, though. Let's go to Joaquin and Santa Rosa.
- 54:13Speaker 1: What's up, Good morning, fellows. Are you guys doing good? Good? Nice?
- 54:19Speaker 1: I hope you guys are doing well, excellent shows. Always
- 54:21Speaker 1: thank him. I got two questions for you. First one,
- 54:25Speaker 1: do you guys buy any of these rumors that the
- 54:29Speaker 1: Raiders possibly want Mick Jones. I'm not buying it. I'm
- 54:34Speaker 1: not buying it. You don't think the Raiders would have
- 54:36Speaker 1: any interest? I think the Raiders would have interest. I don't.
- 54:39Speaker 1: I'm with you, Frank, Yeah, I'm not buying. Yeah, I'm not. No. No,
- 54:44Speaker 1: I think I think McDaniels has pressure on him. I
- 54:47Speaker 1: think they they either have to draft somebody to buy
- 54:52Speaker 1: him time yep, or they need somebody who's established. Yeah,
- 54:56Speaker 1: they can't middle it right, And I think mac Jones
- 54:59Speaker 1: would be middling it. Maybe he's the guy that could
- 55:01Speaker 1: get you where you want to go, but then if
- 55:04Speaker 1: it doesn't work, you're gone, You're out. Yeah, Like, I
- 55:07Speaker 1: think if you had like, I think mac Jones and
- 55:10Speaker 1: Garoppolo are probably not all that different, especially considering Garoppolo's
- 55:15Speaker 1: injury history. But I think if you're Josh McDaniels, you
- 55:19Speaker 1: I think you have to lean to Jimmy because I
- 55:22Speaker 1: think he gives you a better chance to come in
- 55:23Speaker 1: and win right away and get you where you need.
- 55:26Speaker 1: I think he needs to win. Yeah. I think it
- 55:28Speaker 1: was bad last year for him, not like Denver bad
- 55:31Speaker 1: for him, but it wasn't much better. Yeah, And I
- 55:34Speaker 1: think if they had money, I think he'd be gone.
- 55:37Speaker 1: I mean, the Patriots handed them a game, you know,
- 55:39Speaker 1: well after they handed you the game, Yeah, when they
- 55:42Speaker 1: blew a fourteen point lead like a in a blink
- 55:44Speaker 1: of an eye. Yeah, So I don't know. Quick quick aside,
- 55:49Speaker 1: really cool watching Dave Ziegler busting with the boys with
- 55:52Speaker 1: Taylor Luan had some great stories because Taylor Luwan was
- 55:56Speaker 1: actually in his high school. I didn't realize Dave Zigler
- 55:58Speaker 1: had been a high school guidance count slur before he
- 56:01Speaker 1: got on the coach on the NFL coaching um. But
- 56:04Speaker 1: like Taylor Lawan told the story of like he hadn't
- 56:06Speaker 1: like terrible grades in Spanish and like you know, Dave
- 56:09Speaker 1: was like helping him. But just a just a kind
- 56:11Speaker 1: of cool story something I never knew about Dave Ziegler here,
- 56:14Speaker 1: that he had had kind of a late journey in life,
- 56:15Speaker 1: and you know, saying, oh, I was thirty two, and
- 56:18Speaker 1: all the other kids scouting, you know, scouting assistants are
- 56:20Speaker 1: all these kids, and I'm here as this, like thirty
- 56:22Speaker 1: two year old guy who's already had a career speaking
- 56:24Speaker 1: to Dave Ziegler. Uh didn't did either of you, Evan
- 56:27Speaker 1: or Mike c Elliott Wolf while you were there? Okay,
- 56:31Speaker 1: I didn't see him. Where'd you see him? Good thought?
- 56:33Speaker 1: Fred thought, Okay, in the tomb we had um if
- 56:40Speaker 1: you guys caught this. And I forget the guy's name now,
- 56:42Speaker 1: but we signed we we added a guy to the
- 56:44Speaker 1: scouting department, ye who has been who's been here before?
- 56:47Speaker 1: And Fred and I was sort of wondering if this
- 56:51Speaker 1: is preparation for maybe Elliot Wolf leave, like he's been
- 56:54Speaker 1: at a VP level in the league. Yeah, sounding like
- 56:56Speaker 1: a few people after him too, like other kind of
- 56:58Speaker 1: teams as well, And that was in the report, but
- 57:00Speaker 1: other teams that had Patriots, you know, it's Monty Awesome Ford,
- 57:04Speaker 1: you know, Yepe, those those types. I just wonder if
- 57:07Speaker 1: maybe the draft comes and Elliot Wolf leaves. Yeah, I
- 57:10Speaker 1: just that's the timetable for personnel people. I think that's
- 57:13Speaker 1: a totally reasonable read. And I mean I would just
- 57:15Speaker 1: say generally, I just like, you know, adding adding some
- 57:18Speaker 1: support staff, adding people, you know, to to to get
- 57:21Speaker 1: more people in here, to get into the system, and
- 57:22Speaker 1: you know, just have more of a buffer. So that
- 57:24Speaker 1: does happen. You've got some guys there because I mean,
- 57:27Speaker 1: you know, when we were there at the combine, it's
- 57:29Speaker 1: it's like you said, it's all these former Patriots execs
- 57:31Speaker 1: are now you know, running the show for a lot
- 57:33Speaker 1: of these teams, and you just realize how many guys
- 57:35Speaker 1: have departed. I think it's possible with with Elliot Wolf,
- 57:38Speaker 1: I wouldn't roll it out, but he's been handling a
- 57:41Speaker 1: lot more of the pro personnel side of things. And
- 57:43Speaker 1: for the Patriots and Grow and Cam Williams have been
- 57:46Speaker 1: handling a lot more of the draft Stuf'm not saying
- 57:48Speaker 1: that they don't you know, crossover at all, but there's
- 57:52Speaker 1: been more of that. And I think when you look
- 57:54Speaker 1: at the Patriots in the past, the guys that they've
- 57:56Speaker 1: lost to other teams have been more of the pro
- 57:58Speaker 1: personnel guy as I would say that maybe the draft
- 58:01Speaker 1: guys exception, maybe John Robinson. But you know, Ziegler was
- 58:04Speaker 1: a pro personnel guy for example, so it's possible. But yeah,
- 58:09Speaker 1: he was there. Okay, all right, foods here, So we're
- 58:13Speaker 1: gonna take a quick break when we come back. Let's

- 1:08:05Speaker 1: And now great moments in history. I think he goes
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: by d he's quarterback at Houston and Miami boy, put
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: down the cigarettes fault. Excuse me, it's really I mean,
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: I mean pretty much gone. He's such a good point there.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: I don't know why. I haven't complimenting any of his points,
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: argue with anything. We don't know it. But Paul goes home.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: He's a chain smoker, just like one after another after
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: the draft. Can a guy get all light value safe home? Honey,
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: I'd rather fight than switch. That's another great moment from
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: all right back here on Patriots on filter, we're talking
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: combine and draft and free agency and quarterback movement and
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: everything else that's on the table. And we're gonna get
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: to your emails. And just a second right now at
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: eight five five, pass five hundred, Eldred from North Carolina's
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: on the phone. What's up, Eldred? Been waiting for this one? Hey,
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: fellas late, how y'all doing all right? Eln Hey Evans,
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: I like come, why's that? He's a hound dog man
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: he's running up to guys. I think that the PR
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: staff hated Evan more than anyone. Fearless, He's fearless. Okay, Um,
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: I thought it combined. I got carried away with the
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: guns dollars from the Organs. We have to rand in
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: a second forty and that's all hot this movie transition
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: in that and it was drill ye and I'm like, now,
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: Like I said, I thought Porter Porter might be the guy,
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: but I like guns dollars, and I don't think dude,
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: Tackle's gonna be there. Fourteen get a corner, but then
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: then a wide retiever, one of those those little main corners.
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: What do you think does hips don't lie with Gonzalez? Yeah,
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: that guy's smooth. The hips don't lie. I'll my hips
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: don't lie. Swivel hips, Yeah, I think I think I
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: think you're gonna speak for Evan and I, well, we
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: were both really impressed with Joey Porter Junior. I mean,
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: you're expecting Joey Porter up there, and he's not that guy.
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: He's very kind of soft spoken, big smile. Um, you
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: know it's it's he's he looks like the real deal. Yeah.
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: Christian Gonzalez, though, I think is the number one corner
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: in this draft. Yeah, and he's smooth plays multiple schemes.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: Can play him in Zoe could play him in man
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: off press, what like, whatever you want to do. I
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: think he's going to go in the top five to
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: seven picks in this draft, though ultimately I don't know
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: if he should. I went once on the on the
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: On the Six Rings podcast that when we were talking
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: about him, and I said, not that I'm comparing him
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: specifically to thay Law, but when you looked at thy Law,
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: I was like, that's a cornerback, and that's how I
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: filled Gonzalez. He just looks like, you know, you say,
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: made in a lab, That's what he looks like. Yeah,
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: I think, yeah, keep his mind, keep Paul class. Mike muted.
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: We don't need to hear him for the second half.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: You can't do that to me. I can't be silent.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: I need just Witherspoon. What about Well, Well, we didn't
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: see him, so I think he was having like a
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: hamstring like Mr. A couple of the guys, like I
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: mentioned Dwan Jones, didn't come in because they were in
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: the last group getting medical checks, so we didn't get
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: to see Witherspoon, and I mean I really am kind
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: of bummed about that he was one. I really wanted
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: to see him just because I just have really enjoyed
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: watching him destroy people in the backfield. I mean, he
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: is like fearless tackler and he seems like he fits
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: the part. I just I need to look at him
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: more because I don't feel like I have a good
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: of a sense that we didn't see him there. Yeah,
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: he's he's the best coverage player in the draft, like
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: in terms of just you got this guy, Like I'm
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: taking Witherspoon over the rest of them. But for the Patriots,
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: he's like five eleven, Like, you know, he's not exactly
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: what what we are all hoping for at that position,
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: probably about five Yeah. I mean I'm not saying it's
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: like he's not He's not Marcus Jones, like he's not
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: five aid, But I just that if you're looking for
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: that bigger outside corner, like there definitely are some people
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: that think that he's more of like a nickel or
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: like somebody that's going to cover some Z receivers versus
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: like covering the the X. But I think that he's
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: he's a shutdown guy. And he's got that playmaking ability
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: as a tackler too. He does look like he has
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: that slaut ability to just go especially on like running
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: plays and stuff. He's he's aggressive. Rick writes in given
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: the rumors, I'm curious what your thoughts are on the
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: potential Matt Jones trade to the Raiders. If the Raiders
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: are willing to offer the number seventh pick, Nope, I'm
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: not doing so the Patriots take it and then package
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: it with his fourteenth pick and maybe a draft pick
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: from next year and try to move up into the
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: top three and grabbed Ryce Young or c. J. Stroud
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: What an email? Seventh? Paul couldn't say yes fast enough?
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: So so you're actually gonna email a higher draft pick
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: than what you drafted for. And he really hasn't right
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: proved anything. Here's the email they're going to trade. They
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: might as well, Dante. That's very well done. That that
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: works can be sweet in the bottle. I'm glad I
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: didn't have a full swig of dia pepsi because it
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: would have been all over Fred, But that that was good?
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: What like, like, seriously, though, what would be your your
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: threshold for if somebody wanted to trade for Mac what
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: would be what would be the lowest first round, second round?
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: But like but specific, like I mean twenties. You know, Yeah,
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: I wouldn't expect to be a top ten pick. But
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: I think though the only way I and I don't
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: know how you would do this, The only way I
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: would be interested in trading Mac is if there was
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: somebody in the draft now at quarterback that I really
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: loved and I knew I could get. That's the only
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: way I would do it. Well, that's the only reason
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: that would be the reason why you would do it. Yeah,
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: what if Bill Belichick thinks that there's no difference between
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: Mac Jones and Bailey's Appy, Then, um, I think then
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: the end of Bill Belichick's tenure you come around to
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: that way of thinking. You'd be distraught in the moment,
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: and then tomorrow when we do the show, you'd be like,
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: I just think it was good value. I mean, I
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: don't know what. I'm not going to go into the
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: season thinking there's no hope, you know, But no, I
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: don't want you to go into the season. Yeah, I
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: don't want you to go into the season for I'm saying,
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: what if Bill thinks there's not a whole lot to
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: choose between those two quarterback question, I'm i gotta press record.
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: Good day, sir. I have with Fred on this though,
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: if you knew that, like, let's say they that's their
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: line of thinking that Bailey's Appy and mac Jones are
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: pretty much equal. But at fourteen, we're gonna take Anthony
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: Richardson and we're gonna develop Anthony Richardson Bailey's Appy. That
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: that scenario is fine, but you're not getting Anthony Richardson
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: at fourteen. So like, what are you gonna do then?
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: Now if you get a first round pick and now
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: so now be packaging first round picks up to can
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: move up into the top ten to get Anthony Richardson. Yes,
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: that's what you do. You stockpile assets. I just don't
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: where you want to go. I just don't see Bill
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: doing something. But now I don't think now it's in
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: my in my personal opinion, I think it's a moot
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: point because I don't think Mac Jones is gonna garner
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: you would enough to offer you the ability to get
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: up where you want to go. I don't think you're
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: getting a first round pick for mac Jones this year. Now,
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: maybe if he plays really well and you still don't
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: want to move on with him, then maybe next year,
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: next off season, you could, But coming off that season,
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: I don't think he's getting you a first round pick.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: I'm just not selling low on Matt Jones, and I
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: think that's probably the biggest reason. Evan. Yeah, well, I
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: don't think there's much of a chance, if any at all,
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: of him getting moved because of exactly what you just said.
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: You don't sell low, I know. And this was felgrim
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: as this thing. I caught a bit of them yesterday
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: and they're just like they have him on a rookie deal, Mike,
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: they are not doing anything with him on that contract
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: he is. I totally agree. I disagree with Mike's premise
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: that he's here for two years. Oh yeah, Like Mike's
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: pohole point is, even if he doesn't play much better
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: this year than he did last year, you know, saying
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: twenty three than he did in twenty, they're picking up
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: the option no matter what. No, they'll just play it
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: out right. And I was like, four years, No, he'll
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: have to play better for them to want to play
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: it up. They won't pick up the fifty year option.
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: I don't think under any circumstances unless he lights it
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: up and that's a deal then and then therefore that
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: seems like a deal, right Yeah. But if he if
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: he plays like the same as he has like basically
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: the first two years, they're not going to pick up
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: the option, and I'm not sure they're gonna ride him
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: through like the fourth year. Like what are we doing?
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: Why do that? Um Nick and Kansas says, with the
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: release of Brian Hoyer, would the Patriots use up a
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: late round pick on a quarterback? If so, what are
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: some guys that we could realistically target? Bennett and Duggan
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: would be on my list, but I'm not sure where
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: they're projected to. Stetson Bennett, Oh, I guess so, yeah,
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't like his coach. Or there's two
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: guys that played in the National Championship Game and I
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: know who they are, and he's fifty. I think there's
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: two easy ones. And that's when we've all been talking
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: about dtr that you know from UCLA that they had
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: at the Shrine Bowl. I mean, I kind of like
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: the idea of how bad they've been against mobile quarterbacks
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: of you know, maybe drafting a guy that's not necessarily
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: a developmental gonna be our guy, but maybe at least
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: a guy who can run a little bit and can
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: provide some of those looks. Um. But dtr and And
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: and Jake Hayner was a favorite um of of of ESPNC.
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: Why can't I keep Jordan? There's too many Justin Reeds
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: and Jordan reads in my life. But he was another
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: one that you know, late round guy that that he
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: thought kind of fit. What about um at Age to me,
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: isn't like the thing for Bennett that I'm not interested
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: in because if the guy could play, he could play.
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: I know, I'm only kidum, but like hook, yeah yeah,
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: what about Hind I really like it? I just I
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: mean I I yeah, I mean that's probably the case.
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: But I mean I would say, aside from I like
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: him though, I like him, I mean I really love
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: just listening to him. You know during the Senior Bowl, Um,
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: you know, there was a a lot of him getting
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: miked up watching practice, and you know, you just get
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: a sense of these guys. I agree with Evan though,
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: I think somebody's gonna probably take him in the first
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: day or two. Um, did you think he's going in
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: the first, think second round, second, third round. I bitch,
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: is something in there? I wait missed that? Never mind? Men,
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: if he's fully healthy, I think he'd be going in
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: the first round. Oh yeah, but I'm going to be
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: fully healthy. I think for you'd have to take him
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: at forty six. Yeah, I'd be interested in that because,
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: as you know, yeah, I think they need a quarter
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: little um left turn here Kyle and rosalind Dale writes
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: in while sitting around on Sunday after having a few
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: too many of Paul's diet millers on Saturday night, my
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: girlfriend and I suddenly got the craving for wings. Were
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: you with my son? Is that where all my diet millers?
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: We We're currently in Rosalindale, and after scouring door Dash
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: and Uber Eats to find the best wing near us,
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: I had an epiphany. Suddenly I heard Fred's voice in
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: my head talking about Buffs Pub prior to the Super
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: Bowl and how the wings there can't miss. We ordered
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: take out, and I have to say, only after a
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: couple of bites in, I think Fred may have been
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: underselling it. I went with the lemon pepper, garlic palm
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: and my girlfriend peach bourbon barbecue and both were easily
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: in the tier of the best wings I've ever had. Um,
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: that's that's great. But you didn't get Buffalo. That's hilarious
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: because I just saw an ad on TV for Buff's
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: Pub randomly, and I'm like, where do I know this from?
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: And it was Fred. This is Fred's place. Look good,
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: everybody's Just for the record, I think I brought up
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: Buffs pus. Ben was in agreement with me on it.
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: I gotta go where Newton right off right off the
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: mass Pike, and we used to go after when I
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: worked at the Herald. After we would play our Boston
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: City corporate basketball games, I was just you know, messing
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: around and getting triple doubles. Um, we would go to
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: Buffs Pub. It was awesome. Buzz pubs really really legit
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: Buffalo wing. Evan thinks that the show started when he
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: was I think we've talked about Buffs Pub before you exist.
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: I was, thank you, I hear I hear that a lot.
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: You know, things happened before, all right, Uh, and certainly
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: I went to Buff's Pub before then too. I was
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: arguing my friends as Tim and I wanted to get
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: your thoughts. Do you think the AFC East is now
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: the best division in football, assuming the Jets get Aaron
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: Rodgers and maybe the Ravens can't keep Lamar Jackson. Of
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: course this is just hypothetical, but I thought this was interesting. Um,
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: it's definitely not the NFC South. I mean, if the
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: Jets get Aaron Rodgers, then you have two legitimate, like
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: really legitimate teams. I don't know about Miami because of
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: the Brady Oh, that would be still give Yeah, I'm
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: not giving up on the AFC West either, because I
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: still think there's there's enough talent there. And I maybe
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: I'm being foolish with Sean Payton, but I think Sean
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: Payton will make that look better. Yeah. I think that
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: guy was over his head. Yeah, I mean as a
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: head coach, Nathaniel Hackett. I mean just even seeing this
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: on the TV screen here as we're sitting with like
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers agrees to me, you know, with the Jets,
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: like it's it's kind of scary. Even says they're playing
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: foot see. I mean, it's kind of it's kind of
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: scary because I think we all agree that that team
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: has a lot of pieces in place, very scary and
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: all of a sudden, you know, And you've been looking
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: up at Miami and I know that they beat Miami
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: last year at the end, you know, a bang gambler
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: Miami squad not exactly what it was, but yeah, so
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: you know they haven't been able to beat Buffalo. They've
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: had a real hard time with Miami two. And now
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: you're talking about the Jets are about to get a
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: generational quarterback with Think about the games that you had
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: with the Jets last and recently. Was the only reason
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: you won that game last year at home was because
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: of the kick return have nothing to do with your
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: I think you may have lost both. If Mike White
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: had played let alone Rogers, they couldn't score points. That's
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: not going to be the case with Aaron Rodgers. Ye,
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: and if Hall is you know healthy again? You know right, jeez,
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: I didn't even that didn't even come to the top
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: of my mind that that's a scary proposition. I I
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: I have to do everything in my power and keep
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers from going to the Jets. I really do.
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to start making some phone calls because
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: I mean for me, and I said it many times,
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: like and I know Paul sometimes brings up like, you know, well,
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: how do you feel about, like, you know, Wessel Wilson
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: going to the Broncos. Do you feel like, you know,
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: the AFC is getting tough and it's like I can't
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: get past the AFC East and right now it's just
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: like that is my my nightmare of well, what are
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: the Patriots going to do? Because we know what's going
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: on against Buffalo Miami and now that the Jets are
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: going to enter into this mix, like you know, they
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: need to, I feel like and I hate this kind
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: of stuff, like you need to make a statement, But
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: at the same time, I kind of feel like you
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: got to make a statement and say, hey, what are
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: we doing to try to like close the gap here
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: because it feels like all these other teams are making
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: strides each offseason away from us, and each year it
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: gets a little bit farther away. Yeah, but I do
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: think the the AFC East would would enter into that
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: area of the best, if not the best divisions. There
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: aren't really a ton of them. I still think the
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: North is pretty good, you know, with with Cincinnati, Cleveland
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: and Pittsburgh, UM in Baltimore, they're all like they're all
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: talented teams. They're all pretty tough teams. The big X
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: factor there is is Watson. Can he be anything like
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: what he was? Right? We didn't really see a lot
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: of signs of that in the last handful of games
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: he played. But what if the whole offseason he looks
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: more like the Deshaun Watson that last played for the Texans.
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: When when Mike decided, oh yeah, he's pretty good. Yeah,
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: I mean that's I mean, he won't stop the storying
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: the team. That's when you found out he was good.
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: I mean not at Clemson. Wait, I mean, I mean,
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: I tell I tell you about what Marvin Harrison's sons.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: That's a division where the Steelers are kind of in
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: the situation of the Patriots where yeah, you know, right, yeah,
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: and and and they I mean they are I think
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: that if if Watson turns out to be what he
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: was in Houston, then I think Pittsburgh is the worst
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: team in that division. And they went nine and eight
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: right last year. Yeah, so that's a pretty good division.
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: And Jackson's I don't think Jackson's going anywhere. Yeah, Jordan
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: and London, I love Duson Evans reports from the combine,
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: but we only heard good reviews of the player players
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: and how they carried themselves. I missed Paul and Andy's
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: a rational dislike of prospects those after walking past them
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: in India, and in fairness to me and I don't
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: often defend myself, that was more of an Andy thing.
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: I just decided guys couldn't play based on appearances, based
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: on X. That That was my like, what are we
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: doing here? Rub you the wrong way? Yeah? Did he
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: say like he thought he should be the number one
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: overall pickers? I mean, you know, he's just I don't know.
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: Andy was completely out on Kyla Murray. Yeah, just look
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: some little boy I wandered in. Oh yeah he was. Yeah,
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: he was right way right. Um, Let's see, he knew
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: that he didn't study and that's why he would never
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: be as good as he should be. A gamer closet, Bryan,
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: he's like sitting in one of those chairs, like gamer chairs. Like, hey, guys,
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: Brian in the bay airess as Paul as a fraud,
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: Yes he is. Orlando Brown playing on three teams is
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: a red flag. Brandon Cooks playing on four teams is
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: the hall of fame. You know, I'm not interested in
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: reacquiring Brandon Cooks and when the Patriots got him it
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: was his second team. I'm not interested in straighten for
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: Brandon Cooks. Now, well, that's the Robbie Anderson thing too,
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: Like I'm less interested in that, right I no, And
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: that just in these names get recycled over and over,
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: which knows me to our our lunchtime discussion during the break,
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: What do you think of Robbie Anderson on a cheap,
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: cheap team? I mean, you get him, appreciate a No,
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: why do we want that? We don't want that. No,
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. When we go down the hall
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: and ass because they've been When I say we, I'm
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: not just talking about the fans. I'm saying that that's
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: what they'll do. Yeah. Another guy, another guy that wrote
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: in saying, you know cornerback, Like you know, I think
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: cornerback is a is a big need. Totally agree. What
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: do you think of Greedy Williams who hasn't really worked out?
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: He's a second round pick who was supposed to be
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: real and I missed on him, by the way. That
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: was a guy that I really liked. Um, why do
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: we need to find these like diamonds in the rough?
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: Liked did Gilmore not work out? Will? So when I
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: when I posted my cornerback rankings going into the combine,
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: and all the comments were if they can find J. C.
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: Jackson as a UDFA, why waste the first round pick
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: on a corner And it's like, because J. C. Jackson
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: is good, not great, That's what they don't get in right.
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: Fred and I had a discussion about this. I think
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: in last Tuesday show, if I can win the lottery,
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: why you know have a four one K. So the
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: Patriots have done a very good job, and I'm not exaggerating,
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: They've done a very good job of finding undrafted free
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: agent cornerbacks that can play, that have made the turn
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: them into NFL players. Going back to Randall Gay and
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: you know Malcolm Butler, I mean even Miles Bryant, John James,
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: Jonathan Jones, third round pick, Ryan and U and JC Okay.
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: But I think those guys were really good when you
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: think of them as former undrafted free agents. Not when
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: you think of them is we took him in the
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: first round, right, Like Randall Gay was not a great
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: player if he was a first round draft pick. That again,
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: same point made on six Rings today. Just saying traded
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: for Talib like had to go out and sign Rivers Browner.
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: You know, I don't really, And I think that's a
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: characteristic of all of their championship teams one to one
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: High Law Sante, Samuel Stefan, Gilmour, Durell Revs. Like they've
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: had that out to use your your turn, that alpha
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: corner that if you want to say, Steph Diggs is
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: playing today, Okay, no problem, I got him. He's gonna
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: get his three for thirty and that's all. That's what
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: I loved. We talked to Cam Smith from South Carolina
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: a little bit at the Combine and he played Jalen
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: High this past season. He won the b and cough
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: at Tennessee and he said they got into their meeting
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: room on Sunday, first meeting room turned the page of Tennessee.
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: He goes, walks into the meeting room, goes, I got
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: high at and leaves and I was like boom, Like
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: that's what that's what we have, the mentality, and that's
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: what I know that there's stories from ty Law doing
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: similar things where you know they would play, uh, you know,
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: the bills and he'd be like, I got molds and
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: then he would just walk out of the room and
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: then in the game he'd take molds and he'd take
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: your guy too. Yeah. Yeah, right, So it's and I
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: just I feel like that we sometimes and I heard
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: my buddy Chris Gasper talking about this, like the page
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: has done a great job of developing cornerbacks over the years,
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: and I would push back against that a little bit.
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: I think they've done a great job of like mining
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: you know, these diamonds in the rough, yes, and turning
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: him into you know, NFL players like Malcolm Butler to me,
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: was good. J C. Jackson is good. I don't think
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: there's stars, but I could give you a laundry list
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: of guys they've taken in the first three rounds of
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: that position that all couldn't play tyrone les I love
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: the point and and and I think when I look
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: at this defense, I think that's what's missing, Like you
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: need that number one cornerback. And it's not just about
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: or you're gonna go lock a guy down. It's just
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: about the trickle down. And you know, if you have
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: that one guy, then all these other guys that you
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: somehow found u DFA's late round developmental guys then there
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: then that's okay. But when you're trying to go into
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: battle with just all guys that you you know, the
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: diamonds and the rough who aren't quite you know, they're
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: the one bees of the world, I don't think it's enough.
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: I think they need that talent. They need that guy
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: at the top. No. I mean we saw it, even
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: guys that weren't in their prime but were good covers.
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: When they added vas and the tall kid on the
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: other side, Browner, uh that year, it made. It made
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: a huge difference. It allowed you to do so many
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: different things on defense that you weren't able to do before.
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: You know it frees other guys. Like the mentality of
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: how you view a guy right, Like, I think we'd
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: all agree Jonathan Jones good solid player, Like I wouldn't
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: tell you anything overly negative about Jonathan Jones, but I
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: still think of him as scrappy, overachieving, undrafted free agent.
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: Look what happened when you made him your number one corner?
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: How did Digs do against him? How did Jefferson do
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: against them? And that's not Jonathan Jones's fault. This is
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: not necessarily meant to be a shot at Jonathan Jones.
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: It's meant to show you the difference between the guys
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: that Evan's talking about that come into the meeting room
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: and tell you what they're going to do. And you're
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: an undrafted free agent in year six or seven who's
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: had hats off, great job getting yourself into a really
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: really respectable NFL career, who's competitive, right, Yeah, and he is.
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: He didn't have a terrible year as the number one corner, right,
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: he was fine, Right, But I think if he's going
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: to be your number one corner, you're probably gonna struggle
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: against a good passing. And that's why, like you can tell,
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: like you guys know this, like and I always look
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: at the teleide things like kind of the inflection point
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: of like, hey, we can't just keep driving drafting five ten,
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: one eighty corners that play zone. We need to be
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: able to man people up. So, like I think we
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: were all surprised when they put that contract on Stefan Gilmore,
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: you know, not in a bad way, but just those
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: signs to me going to get Reevas. It showed to
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: me they get it, they know they need that guy,
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: and they just they haven't had that guy since Gilmore left.
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: I think this this draft could be an opportunity to
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: Gilmore was the I think the tenth overall pick in
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: his draft, and so he's somebody that was a high
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: end talent, like you know, really great tester all through
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: the roof, all everything. And I just I come back
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: to we were talking about this a lot at the
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: combine because these corners just like blew us away. I mean,
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: there's gonna be fifteen corners draft in the top one
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: hundred of this draft. There's a great depth, great guys
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: at the top at the top, excuse me, and we
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: were why why were they? Why do they have such
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: a good pass rush? But they were terrible on third down? Right?
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: Like why like how do those two sixty sacks twenty
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: second on third right? How do those two things line up?
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: And I think at the end of the day, as
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: much as I get into the x's and nose in
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: the scheme, and at some point it's our guys against
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: your guys, and on the outside at corner there guys
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: were just not good enough. I mean I look at
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: the Raiders game, like they just marched right down the
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: field when they needed a drive at the end of
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: the game. If you had one of those lockdown corners
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: and said, in Marcus Jones, you know, playing out a
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: position and all these guys playing you know, in up
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: up a peg in the order, did the Raiders march
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: right down the field, like, I don't know. Maybe if
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: you lose Jonathan Jones and you don't do it. Let's
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: say you don't get that first or second round draft
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: pick and you don't say, swing a trade for Jalen
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: Ramsey or someone you know, I don't know, Marcus Peters,
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: I don't know. Then you're going in with Jalen Mills,
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: who you have no idea about because you missed half
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: the year. And the Jones boys, like I mean even
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: even Miles Bryants are restricted free agent. Yep, that's a
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: complicated one where he's undrafted too, So it's like you're
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: basically either choose him, We're gonna extend him, or we're
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: gonna kind of let him walk. Well, you cannot gonna
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: give an original Terren tender and then anybody could sign
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: me to it, right, I mean most teams, if they
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: had any if they had any interest in the player,
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: would give him a second round tender, which would scare
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: everybody off. Can't pay you think you're going to give him. No,
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: I don't think they will. Juan in Mexico, with the
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: report that teams believe Jacoby Myers is not getting fifteen
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: plus million dollar contract, is there more of a chance
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: they keep him or they start from scratch with drafting?
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: Also with Bill not going into the combine, is that
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: a sign he is leaving more GM duties to Matt
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: grow and focusing more on the coaching part of his job.
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: Or does it mean nothing? I mean, I mean, I
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: think the way they divide it up is gross. Kind
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: of the draft and Elliot Wolf was kind of free
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: agency and pro I mean that's been Bill kind of
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: overseeing at all. I think that last thing. Or does
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: it mean nothing? Where I'm at fifteen plus million, I'm
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: not sure that Jacoby Myers is going to get more
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: than fifteen million. I think I think given the market,
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: he's he's probably gonna walk. And I mean it's I'm
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: excited for him to get to get paid. And but
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: I also think that the Patriots can you know, I
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: don't want to say upgrade, but I think they can
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: change their dynamic a little bit, and you know, instead
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: of having a lot of guys who maybe air more
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: to the side of size and smarts. You can maybe
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: the word I keep hammering quickness, you can, you know,
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: try to try to get a little bit of speed
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: and dynamic nature into the middle of the field. It's
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: going to be unproven likely, but you know, I would
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: take you know, some flyers on, maybe some some veteran
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: guys too, just to see how it works, just to
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: be a fly on the wall down there. About how
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: they're talking about approaching this offseason, you know, and are
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: we gonna surround Mac? Is that priority number one? Like
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: I just it would be so interesting to know. Yeah,
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: you know, well to go back to the whole Aaron
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: Rodgers saying, if that's not priority number one, then what is?
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: Because if the Jets have Aaron Rodgers and that defense,
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: and the Bills are the Bills, and the Dolphins are
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: at least a team that can light up the scoreboard
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: on any given sun day, you'd better be able to
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: score some points in this division. And right now they
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: are not. They are on the bottom of that. And
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: who knows what Garrett Wilson looks like. I mean, how
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: far Garrett Wilson ascends when he has a quarterback like
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: that throwing them the ball. You know, like you could
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: be talking about the three of the top five receivers
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: in the league or in the ACA with Zach Wilson
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: throwing in the ball in the game in the mental lands.
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: He ripped him up. Yeah right now, the second game
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: here and no one could do anything offensifully, quick, quick
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: little story I did, right. I don't know if I
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: wrote it today, write it. I don't know. Um, but
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: talking to a guy from Houston and just brought up like, hey,
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: what'd you think of Marcus Jones? Is um you know
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: rookie year. I mean, just lit up like, oh my gosh,
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: he said, you know, we're the whole team. We were
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: watching it in the locker room that game against the Jets,
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: and then you know we're all like, oh man, he
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: could do it. He could do it. We all had
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: our phones out. You know. He's just he was so
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: excited for his former teammates and stuff. So, you know,
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: just kind of cool, little little direction. I like those
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: you talk to the teammates the year later. I just
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: love when you ask questions and you see something igniting
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: them that they're just excited to talk about. Because there
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: were a couple guys. I talked to some of the
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: Oregon guys, but there was one of the Oregon linemen
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: where I was kind of silent up getting ready to
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: ask a question, and I'm like, this is the most
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: nervous human being I think I've ever seen in my
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: entire life, and like was just fumbling with like the
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: most simplest questions. And I'm like, all right, I'm just
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: gonna let this guy have a pass. I don't want
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: to stress them out anymore. No, No, Adrian growing, Nope,
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: not on that. Why don't you pick up the backside
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: blitz Alex in Somerset love the show. I've heard Evans
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: say multiple times how the Patriots cannot or do not
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: develop big outside receivers. Quentin John said Metcalf types, I'm
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: confused by this because coaches are constantly being shifted and updated.
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: Belichick is a defensive coach. It doesn't seem to be
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: part of the wide receiver development. Why is it just
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: a known thing that the Patriots are unable to develop
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: a big wide receiver? Saying this without going further almost
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: makes it seem like the Patriots aren't able to do
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: it for unknown reasons. Considering coaching changes happen constantly. Could
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: you expand this? Just tell me the one big outside
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: receiver that they developed into a good NFL player. I mean,
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: how many coaches do we have to I don't care
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: about the coaches, Like, just just tell me. I mean,
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: it's never happened. Well, maybe he's just curious, Like why
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: do you think that they've been unsuccessful doing it? Because
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: I think in this system, and look, we can talk
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: about the system and if it if it should be
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: the system and not should be the system or whatever,
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: but in this system, you have to be a high
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: IQ player that knows how to run routes. And the
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: guys that just are explosive, big size speed guys had
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: to do that run in a straight line. Like that's
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: just not you know, just I don't know, Like just
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: name a name. I know, I know Jackson. They didn't
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: develop Davante Adams. But do you think it's an interesting
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: just thing to discuss in terms of what Davanta Adams
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: did with you know, with Mick Lombardi and Josh McDaniels.
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: Who were those previous guys Like, I mean, again, you
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: brought Randy mosson and there was no problem. There's no
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: problem when you bring a guy in who's you know,
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: that next kind of level. But I mean, I agree
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: generally the point. I'm still kind of on the same
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: thing with with Quentin Johnston in that regard. But yeah,
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: I agree with the point because I think it's factual,
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: Like I don't. I think Evin just gave you a
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: bunch of examples of guys. But I look at it
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: more as it's it's not really it's not really what
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: they want. It's not what they're looking for for whatever reason.
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: And I disagree with it because I do think that
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: when you have guys with that kind of ability, the
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: offense changes, and I think it did change when when
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: Moss came in. Now I get it, like to just
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: ask Chad Jackson to be Randy Moss. That's stupid. But
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: you got to hit like, I don't like the idea
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: of just saying those guys don't work in this offense,
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: so I'm not going to look at them. And this
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: is not meant to be a shot at you, evn't.
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: This is more of a shot at like the system. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: you know, it's like it's unbending. I hear you, because look,
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: I think just in terms of checking boxes. I think
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: Quentin Johnson checks the most boxes out of any receiver
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: in this class because he doesn't have the forty concern
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: that JSN might have or the speed concern that he
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: might have. So if you're just looking at boxes, I
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: think in terms of the position he's going to play
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: in the league is that outside X receiver, he checks
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: all of them. He's at everything. But the problem that
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: you see with him as a linear athlete like this
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: is not a guy that can sink his hips, make
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: a cut at the top of the route and create separation.
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: I mean, even when he goes up against corners that
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: he had their numbers, Like Julius Brentz is a guy
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: I really like on Day two had a lot of
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: problems covering Quentin Johnson down the field, but when Quentin
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: Johnson ran a slant, Julius Brentz was in his hip pocket.
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: Like so, you know, you just you look at these
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: types of things and you worry. I don't want to
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: fixate necessarily on a specific player. I'm gonna just start
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: naming random players from the league like Mike Evans and A. J.
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: Brown and DK Metcalf and you know, like all of
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: these guys like, do we feel And I'm not talking
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: to go right now, I don't because I think they're
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: they're finished products. So I'm not I know, you don't.
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: You don't think that they could get it out of them? No,
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: I'm saying that I think that if this Patriots tomorrow
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: went out and traded for DK Metcalf, I think DK
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: Metcalf would be a hell of a Patriot. Like I
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: think he'd be a great player. I don't. My concern
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: is is that you're if you had drafted DK Metcalf
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: in twenty nineteen, would DK Metcalf be the player that
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: he is with Seattle today? Because I don't think that.
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: You think it's more of a development thing. Yeah, I
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: think it's more due to the system that they that
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: there's I think it's I think, to me, I guess
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: they go hand and yeah, I was just gonna say
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: it feels like they go hand in hand, and like,
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: you know, I mean, I don't have the answer. I'm not.
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: This is not one of my snarky paulism, So I'm
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: just thinking out loud. I think that your offense is limited.
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: I listen, when you have Tom Brady, I mean, and
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: just that guy Mike Evans proves the point. So you
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: had it doing it like with the five yard passes
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: to Wes Welker and Julian Edelman and then throwing seeing
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: routes to Gronk and throwing bombs to my like he
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: showed you you could do it. And then he went
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: and entirely different cast of characters in Tampa Bay, really
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: talented cast of character characters. But he's throwing bombs to
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: Mike Evans and it looks the same. It just I mean,
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: I mean, the productions the same. It looked different, but
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: the production was there. Like to me, it's about not
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: about the system as much as the players. Where I'm
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: at right now is that I'm wondering last year's you know,
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: changing the system, simplifying it to make it go faster.
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: You know where did that end up? And was that
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: part of trying to eliminate the kind of things we're
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: talking about. Second point, Bill O'Brien has had success developing
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: a couple of wide receivers. DeAndre Hopkins obviously played well
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: under him in Houston. What changes now when Bill O'Brien
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: comes back, is this now building off of what Matt
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: Patricia did and in the simplicity. Are we blowing that
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: up and we're just Bill brow'brian's offenses back now, you know.
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: So that's an area where I wonder maybe that you know,
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: maybe Bill O'Brien has something new and maybe, you know,
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: maybe that this can change a little bit it. I
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: don't know. He hasn't had success elsewhere though, when he's
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: seen plenty of other guys, So that's a little bit
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: intriguing to me. I think it's the old Billy O'Brien system.
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be the same playbook that they had,
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: like the Patricia playbooks and that whole thing experience. Oh um.
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: Speaking of him, Yeah, Karen Greegid over the weekend indicated
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: that he is in play for a job in Philadelphia. Yeah.
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: I saw a possible linebackers coach. Yeah, just that. I
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: was just gonna say, you know, he's still there, be
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: best friends forever. Yes, I still don't think you're in
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: I don't know why you think you should be hanging
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: out with those guys. You haven't achieved anything that they have.
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: Russell in Arkansas, speaking of Billy Oh, he wonders do
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: you guys think Billy Oh will have any say in
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: the draft. If so, do you think they would be
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: more inclined to draft guys from the SEC? And last question,
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: any chance they go more defensive players in the draft?
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: In free agency? Um and free agency route for offense.
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: So defense in the draft free agency for offense. There
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: is no offense in free agency besides a lineman. There's tackles. Uh, well,
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: you tell him the thing that you that you heard
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: right like? Yeah, no, Yeah, Macro told me that that
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: Billy Oh was a huge I think it's he used
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: two huges, huge, huge, huge resource for for the college side.
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: I think is the phrasing that he used to pick
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: his brain about players he coach at Alabama, players he
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: coached against in the SEC College Football playoff Sugar Bowl,
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: you know things like that. So yeah, I definitely think
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: that Bill O'Brien not only having an influence on scouting
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: in the players that they go after, but also having
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: an influence based off of the type of system that
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: he's going to implement here will be a big part
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: of it. I'm not thinking it's the end, I'll be all.
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: I think it'll be part of it, and I don't
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: think that will lead them to draft more SEC guys,
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: Like I think that's what you like. I mean, I
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: think you, in general you're gonna draft SEC guys, so
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: does everybody else. But I think he'll be a part
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: of the draft, just like I think Josh was a
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: part of the draft. And I would just say fred
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: to the to the defensive side of the point. I
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: feel like I came back from Indian If I had
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: to say, there's one area I just don't really feel
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: like I got a good beat on. It is the
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: front seven, the linebackers, the edges, and I mean, I
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: do feel like there's some quality nose tackle, you know,
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: day three feel you know, take the Carl Davis role
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: and maybe hand it to a rookie. But you know,
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: as far as like, oh, this looks like such one
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: of their guys as an edge that they might potentially
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: take him at fourteen or even you know, in the
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: second round, I just I don't really those guys aren't
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: on the top of my mind right now. I need to.
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: I don't know. Everybody don't feel it, but I know
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: that I in listening to all those coaches and GM's talk,
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: a lot of them brought up pass rushing was pretty
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: deep class and now I didn't like I don't know
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: all of the individuals like I do with some of
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: the wide receivers and in different spots, but I know
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: like Brandon Bean in particular, was talking about tight ended
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: corner like everybody else has um and then he mentioned
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: pass rushers. Yeah, I would say, I would say those
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: are the three in order, tight end, corner, edge are
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: the three best position groups in this draft. Edge is
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: going to go I'd say maybe ten deep in the
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: top fifty. And it's guy like Will Anderson's at the
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: top of the draft, right, and then there's guys that
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: trickle in behind that you mentioned josh Ucha on a
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: contract year and if they're gonna end up paying him,
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: like a guy like Nolan Smith at fourteen from Georgia
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: after the combine he just had, it's not it's not
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: totally out of the realm of possibility of just best
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: player available on the board and that's who we're gonna take.
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: You know, maybe they end up that the positions and
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: need aren't really there at fourteen and they don't love
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: a trade back and Nolan Smith is sitting there for
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: them and they end up taking him. He's just one
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: of those freak athletes off the edge have to resign
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: two out of the three. Dugger. Yeah, same the way
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: came on, though I don't know, I might say Ouche
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: and Duggar. I would say Uche and Dugger two. Yeah,
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: if you only had one Doug Dugger, that would be
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: my picture. Yeah. But usche Man, he's rising, he's ris
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: and I got to figure out a classic. Belichick realizes
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: that it's not It was Arizona in the fourth quarter
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: against the backup tackle. Yeah. Class, And and to Paul's point,
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: I think too, it's like, on mind you I really
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: like him? Do I love him? Like? Do I need
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: him to stay here for ten years? At Rodar early
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: in the show, I said, I want to get back
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: to that, but I think A. When you's a rock
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: solid offensive, now he's a he's a beast um. But
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: this is what you did. You know, let's rewind, I
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: don't know, six years and you re upped Shack Mason
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: and Joe Tuney. You know, in Tuney's case, you franchised
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: for big money. Yeah, and it doesn't make your team
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: all that much better. I'm not saying that you're not
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: better with Michael when you that you would be Chason Hines.
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: But how much better are you? Yeah? The whole cold,
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: strange thing all over again, you know, And I would
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: say too like my comment was as much about can
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: we retain some of our own players and build a
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: core because it feels like, you know, as these free
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: agent class from twenty twenty one starts to you know,
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: expire and get out, I just I'm left wondering, where's
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: our core? Who are the guys that we've drafted that
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: we really like that we're you know, we want to
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: build around that. We want to make the Patriots franchise players.
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: When we put guys up on billboard, who are those
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: guys going to be? Fred touches mic? You can't touch
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: the mic, Fred, don't touch that. Yeah, I don't want
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: that hand. Looking at that Mike Trove in the bathroom,
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: can't I can't move my mic arm don't move. Let's
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: go back to the Ace ticket outline, Boston Cream out
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: of Edmonton's on the line. What's up? Oh boy, hey guys,
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: thanks thanks for rolling off season content. I just want
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: to say a couple of things. First off, evan massive
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: upgrade over Eric. We've checked off a couple of years
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: checked out, no disrespect, no, none taken. Yeah, don't take
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: it personally. The truth is never mean. The question I
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: have is if Belichick drafts another head scratcher this year,
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: how do you think the fan base to reacts? And
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: do you think that possibly that's the next put out
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: the door for Belichick? I think the fan base will
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: react the same way it does every year when he
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: does that. What is he doing? And he's a better coach,
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: But I mean, I think to the point and to
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: the point of last year was undebatably not good and
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: and and a bad year for Bill. You know, I
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: just and compounded with the AFC stuff, with Aaron Rodgers
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: and all that. I you know, I don't want to again.
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: I don't want the optics of it, but I just
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: feel like you need something for the fan base to
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: feel like, hey, we got some hope here that we're
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: going to come And we've always said that, like the
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: presence of Tom Brady and the AFCAS forced other teams
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: to make bad decisions because they were always like, yeah,
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: we don't beat him in two years and you blow
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: it up. Could that happen to the Patriots, like, you know,
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: like you're you're the way I'm I'm looking at you
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: while you're talking to is it's like something I would
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: say it already hasn't. Yeah, you know Aaron Rodgers and
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: you know, gosh out, we're gonna do something like could
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: you make could could you see them making bad decision?
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: I think Buffalo and the Jets in the same situation
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: that the Patriots have been the last three years, would
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: have already been on a second regime. Yeah, I'm already
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: gone three years like that. I think last year is
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: is it? That's it? Last year was a bad decision
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: after bad decision. I mean there you know a couple
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: doozies and ones that aren't just like well why didn't
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: he play marm but like they blew up the whole
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: offense and they never found their way, like you know,
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: so they is that a result of feeling pressure blowing
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: up the offense? And I don't think so. I think
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: it was. I think it was the result. I think
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: it was the opposite. I think it was money saving
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: that too, But I think it was the opposite of
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: you know, I think we can figure it out. I
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: believe that one said it. I just I look at
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: the dear raft and like just hit it down the fairway, please,
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: like stop taking cole Strangers in the first round, like
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: you're not in that position anymore. And when I keep
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: on going back to that introductory on the field thing,
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: or they march them out with mister Kraft and Jonathan
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: and h and mister Kraft is sitting there saying, well,
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: Bill says, it's it's like Logan Makons. It's like okay,
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: but like when you drafted Logan Makons, like you had
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: Tom Brady, so like you could draft a guard in
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: the first round like this is not tom Brady would
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: make the guard better, right, That's what he did to
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: all his life. But but you had a Super Bowl
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: roster already and you were just looking to fill holes
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: at that point in your lineup, and Logan Makons was
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: was plugging play. Now you need Tom Brady like you
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: need those you need the stars, you don't need Cole
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: Strangers of the world. Right. Well, it's like Buffalo taking
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: Osiris Torrance, you know, at the end of the first
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: round this year, which is like there you are. That's
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: what you're doing right now. You're drafting the best guard
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: down there at the bottom because you can then you've
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: got the pieces. You have the fourteenth overall pick in
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: the draft that there's no reason for that pick not
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: to be a consensus. Yes, like that guy was a
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: top twenty talent in this draft. Four Is this the
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: famous Boston Cream By the way, I was thinking the
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: same thing. Oh yeah, Oh wow, So you're the Boston
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: Twitter Twitter. Oh boy, tip of the cap to you,
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: my friend. You you you cracked me up quite frequently. Yes,
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: you do. Thank you for your support over the years too,
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: chuckle guffaw hello, well even yeah, give him a follow.
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: How much time do you devote to your postings? Uh? Well,
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: I work for the government, so probably quite a bit.
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: All right, Well, thanks for calling, and I appreciate your
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: calling it. He is very funny. It's very funny Boston
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: Cream jacket and says big receivers don't fit in well
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: in New England because big receivers tend to be prima
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: donnas and Belichick has no tolerance big receivers don't fit
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: in the Patriots culture. That's not a good well I
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: will say this though. I will say this though it
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: may not be true anymore, but I think there there
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: is something to be said for that in the past
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: where Bill didn't want to bring in those big individual
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: type personalities into the locker. You know, I just don't
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: think look at the way they muzzled him when he
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: got here. I don't think the draft that was why. Yeah,
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: but when the guys that he has personal like the
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: guys that like he's chummed up with Ocho Sinko's if
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: there was the reason why he wouldn't do something, there
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: wouldn't be so many exceptions to that. Yeah, like Randy
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: Moss and Chinko. Yeah, but he's not anti But yeah,
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: we're talking I'm talking about. I'm talking about when you're
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: bringing in the top wide receiver in the draft, in
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: the free agent and paying him big money from the start,
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: so he comes into the locker room being, if not
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: the highest paid guy, the second to Brady or Moving.
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: It's true, No, this is what I Everything you just
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: said I agree with. It's it's it's I That's that's
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: not said I said. Or drafting that top wide receiver
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: in the draft, who's gonna come in on Day one
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: and feel like I'm telling you I don't have any
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: proof of this, but I know that that was something
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: that Bill was worried about. I don't have any proof
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: of this either, but I I really wholeheartedly believe that
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: a J. Brown instagram living himself from the parking lot
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: after his Top thirty visit here in Foxborough was the
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: reason why they didn't draft him. I I this is
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: because I can't look at it from an evaluation standpoint
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: and really think that they thought to kill Harry was
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: a better prospect than a J. Brown Like it Just
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: that blows my mind that that a team is as
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: smart as the draft. That's embarrassing. I mean, I hope not.
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: I think locker room culture isn't always has been important. Okay,
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: and don't the two things, but I let me finish,
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: and I in culture, I include the pecking order of salaries.
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: That's always been important. Okay, So why is drafting a
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: wide receiver in the first round more of a threat
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: to your salary structure than drafting attacking that I make
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: the same No that again, I said salary is important,
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: but also that attitude of you know, the big guy
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: on campus on day one and you know, I'm I
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: just hope that you're not right, because if we're closing
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: ourselves off to talented players because we don't like the
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: way they talk. Yeah, that's doing your team with just
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: I think that's hope you're not. I think that's an
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: adjustment that Bill has had to make a post Brady.
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: But I think while Brady was here, that was a
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: big thing. I think it was if they don't Tandre
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: Hopkins because of that or I hope you're wrong there
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: JSN because of that. I think now, like I said,
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: now you might have to do that because you don't
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: have Tom Brady. But I think back then he had
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: the luxury of picking and choosing guys who he thinks
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: fit into whether it's the salary scheme or the culture scheme.
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: He could be choosy. But I think we went back
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: to the system. I think he picks guys that fit
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: into the system. I agree, and I don't think that
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: he necessarily thinks that those guys are best fit. Now,
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: when you get a guy like Moss, he could play
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: in any system. He could do. You know, Bill used
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: to say how football smart he was. Yeah, he was.
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: He was at a level intellectually higher than most. I mean,
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: I mean, are you saying that any of the top
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: receives in the NFL right now couldn't fit into the
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: Patriot system. That's what they could. That's my point, Like that,
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: don't tell me that he's not getting these guys because
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: I'm not interested in Justin Jefferson or Stefan Diggs because
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: they're divas. Of course they're divas. But I'm saying now
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: he can't be choosy anymore. You know, now you can't.
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: You're staring down the barrel of fourth place in the AFC.
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: So yeah, but I'm telling you this is freaking out
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: over here. Yeah, those things were important in the past,
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: Well you know how they fit into And I don't
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: think you maximize your championships now I'm rethinking the whole thing.
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: I think you could. I think you left several titles
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: on the table now as some reason you couldn't have
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: a guy who was confident in your locker. I judging
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: from you know, some of the callers on your station,
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: I would agree that I think you're not alone. That's
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: how that moron thinks. He's he's his anti talent at
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: that position as anybody I've ever met, Mike Felger, I'm
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: talking about the callers, not Mike, and the callers to Mike.
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: Mike is anti talent. He hates receivers really, except for
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: a certain type. Okay, I'm sure he loved a pregnant
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: I'm sure he loved DeVante Abbas when he was with
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: Green Bay. Uh no, well that's surprising. Probably said he
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: loves he loves Troy Brown, who loves West Welker They
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: brandwashed him. He loves Julian Edelman rights for why Weekend?
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: Oh well, why don't they just wait until the day
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: three and draft Charlie Jones from Purdue because he ran
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: a greade forty? Why don't you stop? It didn't look
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: like you don't let the guy you're outside to take
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: the top off the dude, No one's talking about the
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: top off the defense. You need guys to make plays,
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: right right. That's why I would more than one kind
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: of player. When you had Gronk, that was fine with
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: the slot guy. If it was just the slot guy,
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: it wouldn't have worked. Though. I just get so jealous
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: when I watched guys like Deebo Samuel and Justin Jefferson,
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: and you know, you know they you know now you
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: tell me they'd help your team. Those guys aren't not diva's,
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: of course they are debo. Debo's like taking a video
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: of the stadium see you in a month, Bill, Like
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: that's the epitome of a diva. And if that's why
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: we didn't take them, well, like little Paul Parola wearing
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: Patriot footy pajamas. Fanboy is really upset with that. If
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: we didn't take the guy because he was too brash. Yeah,
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: when Nickissario was talking at the Texans podium last week,
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: I was I really just wanted like, I just want
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: to know. I'm not even like I'm not even making
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: fun of them or or attacking them about it. But
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: what about Nikkil Harry in that draft made him a
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: better player then Deebo, samuel A. J. Brown, DK Metcalf,
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: Terry mcclaure, Like, what was it in your evaluation? Because
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: if it's if it's Fred's thing that he was the
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: most humble of arguing with I'm not arguing with Fred's theory,
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: by the way, I'm just mad about it. There's a
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: different right. If that was what it was, then I
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: can't run an get Larry Fitzgerald because he's the like
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: the model human being at that position. I just like
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: not he just didn't Jerry Rice because he was, you know,
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: two into himself. I would love to just know what
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: if it If it was a football reason, then what
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: was the football reason? Because they were on an island
- 1:58:38Speaker 1: with that opinion. Yeah, all right, no, no, Mike, Mike Lombardi,
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: he was, he was with him. They were on an
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: island that opinion. All right. If you think the DK
- 1:58:48Speaker 1: metcalf is better than Keneel Harry, you're an idiot. All right.
